- 0:44around with us. If you're new to the show, subscribe on whatever podcast
- 0:47platform you're on, Follow us on Apple Podcasts. If you're listening to us,
- 0:51there, I am Jeff Warren. I'm here by good buddy, Eric
- 0:54Leonard, Eric Man. How you doing. I'm good Man recording this in
- 0:59the morning this yeah, one, Yes, it's different. I'll say that
- 1:03like I'm in my Jammy's Like I'm not usually my jams for the night show.
- 1:07It's a different vibe. Yeah, like morning, why don't have the
- 1:11beer next to me? I could, but well you could get it started
- 1:15early. Get it started early. Well, just to let folks know,
- 1:19you know, you know, Eric may be looking for some employment, and
- 1:22so if you want to, if you want to give him a job,
- 1:25feel free, feel free. He's a great worker. Yeah, it had
- 1:30got I got laid off downsizing casualty unfortunately. And I'll be okay everybody out
- 1:38there, not that anyone gives a ship or worried, but yeah, I'll
- 1:42be all right. I'm searching mode, got this old severance and all that
- 1:47good stuff. So I'm good. You're good, You're good for a little
- 1:49bit. But he also wanted to give thanks for the qualifier. Now I
- 1:57feel the pressure. There you go, there you go. Hey, I'd
- 2:01love to I'd love to give you money from the show, but we don't
- 2:05make any No, I'm just it's been eleven years, no, I know,
- 2:09I know, like the little amount that we bring in from these d
- 2:14It really is amazing, folks, what individuals do make doing podcasts out there.
- 2:19And again, this is just like a side thing for us. It
- 2:22really is. I mean, it's it's it's nothing that pays the bills.
- 2:25I'll tell you that. It is funny. Every now and again, folks,
- 2:30I'll get like a coffee mug in the mail out of nowhere, like
- 2:35like you got me a john one, says John on like the wah wall
- 2:38logo yea, or like an awesome record I love on vinyl. Just it
- 2:43just periodically and he'll just be like, I sent you a record like for
- 2:46the show, just thanks for doing the show with me. Guess what you
- 2:51got you and Lang got something coming soon? All right? Yes, a
- 2:55job. I always say, like before we go to break, we got
- 3:01to pay the bills. But that's like the bills for the show. When
- 3:04I say, you know, this doesn't pay the bill, Like it doesn't
- 3:07pay your house bills at all. Seriously, Like I would love if this
- 3:09I would love if this show would just pay my electricity bill for a couple
- 3:15months. It'd be great. It'd be great. I can just cross one
- 3:19bill off the list with this show. Yeah, that's awesome. I mean
- 3:22to pull back the curtain, folks. You know, people are like,
- 3:23we've been doing it for so long, how did you make you more money?
- 3:25And stuff? Look, we've been approached by a number a number of
- 3:30podcasting platforms over the course of all of these years. But I because I
- 3:35generally run things here I have talked to the guys and I've kind of been
- 3:38like, you know what, No, we just want to stay independent.
- 3:42I don't want to be beholden to downloads, certain guests, all the logistics
- 3:46that go into it, and I don't want to be beholden to the analytics
- 3:50and what these companies specifically want, because once you get into that, you
- 3:54honestly start losing your passion for what you're talking about and then things just fizzle
- 4:00out. I just don't want that. I want to continue talking about Philly
- 4:03sports sports in general without having to be married to some analytics based nonsense that
- 4:12I really couldn't care less about. So that that's why folks were complaining about
- 4:15it. And yes, could we make more money, absolutely, but I
- 4:19just I just refuse to give up that integrity. I guess, you know,
- 4:25to uh to other companies out there, I need a new agent integrity
- 4:30anymo. So I need jabby jab I totally get it, and honestly,
- 4:41the show would I can tell you right now, the show would go downhill.
- 4:44I think it would. I just like talking, I swear a lot.
- 4:49I like being goofy. If I had to, I had to like
- 4:53be holding to somebody like, well you can't. You can say yes,
- 4:56we're I'm like, well, then I can't do the show exactly, exactly
- 5:00flat out of my mouth. And I don't like and I like being us
- 5:03exactly sometimes of shows like it just sounds like robots yep. November and December,
- 5:09I was having conversations with a particular podcast platform, in fact, one
- 5:13that we've had guests from a number of times, and I was really close.
- 5:17I was really close to saying, Okay, let's do it because our
- 5:19podcast, our podcast, believe it or not, would have been in different
- 5:23airports throughout the United States and on on television as well. And I actually
- 5:30just said, now, let's I just don't want to do it because Eric,
- 5:33you have fun, Len he has fun when he's on here. I
- 5:36don't think we would have fun, and that's what we want to do here.
- 5:40It's just not all about the money. So I uh yeah, who
- 5:43knows what will happen in the future, probably just this probably dead air here,
- 5:49Yes, just like how we do it now, I don't think exactly
- 5:54exactly. All right, Well, we are getting ready to head into year
- 5:57eleven, and I do want to mention really cool that there has been a
- 6:01specific listener that's been with us for a very very long time, and this
- 6:04individual recently lost a family member. We've gotten to know this individual over the
- 6:09years, and this this person has been a lot to us here at the
- 6:12Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, and we just want to give a shout out
- 6:15and just to say that you are in our thoughts. You lost a family
- 6:19member, somebody who was very near and dear to you. We've been thinking
- 6:24about you, and we wanted to let you know that, Yeah, same
- 6:26sentiment as Jeff. It's just awful. And when we heard you know,
- 6:30we obviously reached out immediately, and yeah, you're definitely in our thoughts.
- 6:32And if you pray, pray out there like it's just just a horrible thing.
- 6:36Absolutely send in positive energy your way for sure if you are listening here
- 6:41on this episode. So with that being said, we have got a good
- 6:45show for you, got a lot of Eagles talk that we're going to be
- 6:46getting into. Then we're actually going to take a little bit of a break
- 6:49from sports, and we got a new top three list, the top three
- 6:54best TV game shows of all time. Eric I wanted to put this on
- 6:58the agenda because one I think We just needed a little bit of a break
- 7:00right now from the monotony of what the sports world is right now because the
- 7:04Sixers stink. The Flyers are really going through some ups and downs. We're
- 7:09certainly going to talk about the Flyers on this show, but it's nice to
- 7:11kind of just get away from sports and talk about something that you know,
- 7:15we've all loved over the years. Everybody loves game shows, and let's let's
- 7:18do our top three. I agree, great, All right, Well,
- 7:24I tell you this morning recording is great. Listen, what do you about?
- 7:29Yeah, I'm just kidding. I know, I'm just kidding. That
- 7:33goes around the morning drive time. I'm not a morning person, so yeah,
- 7:38I'm a little Oh my god, Yeah you mention trying to do a
- 7:42morning show every day. Oh my gosh, it'd be terrible. It'd be
- 7:46terrible. It'd be terrible. Well, after we do our top three list,
- 7:49folks, we are going to be getting into some Sixers talk. Yeah,
- 7:51we're just gonna talk. Seriously. It could be a two minute conversation,
- 7:55have no idea, and then we actually have two minutes or two minutes.
- 7:58We have two interviews on the table this week, councilman Isaiah Thomas,
- 8:03not that Isaiah Thomas, but counselman Isaiah Thomas, who we've had on the
- 8:07show before. He's gonna give us an update on the Philly based nil legislation
- 8:11that is set to become law in the city of Philadelphia that's gonna assist high
- 8:16school youth athletes. He's a really great counselman. He does a lot of
- 8:20youth activities sports camps throughout the city. So looking forward to that particular interview.
- 8:28And then Russ Cohen from the Locked On Flyers podcast, he's gonna join
- 8:31us for a dive into what the Flyers did at the trade deadline and how
- 8:35the remainder of this season looks for a team that's really going through some challenges
- 8:39and they're also trying to find themselves. So we've got a great show.
- 8:41Did you want to say something, Eric, we're actually looking at each other
- 8:43on camera again. Yeah, just real quick. So, because I've been
- 8:48unemployed for a couple of days now, I do the morning stuff, you
- 8:54know, at at times like I had to run the kids to a dental
- 8:56appointment the other day. Okay, I'm getting somewhere here. You mentioned Radio
- 9:01Morning shows. I don't listen to Terresto radio ever, like ever, same
- 9:05here and it's been forever. And I took I took the kids to the
- 9:09dentist, and of course they're playing like the local morning radio show and the
- 9:13lot in the waiting room. God, and it's the local Wink one O
- 9:16four. If you're from central Pa, you definitely know it's it's the Milk
- 9:20Toast Bland. We are there. We play very white, safe music in
- 9:26the morning shows, your classic like to the guy and the gal have coffee
- 9:30and they just bs back and forth and sometimes the guy says crap and you
- 9:35know, and the girl goes, who stop it, oh boy, oh
- 9:39language. I didn't know those shows were still out there, but apparently they
- 9:43are. And I was just like, this is amazing. And then he
- 9:46went into some horrible Gwen Stefani Blake Shelton song followed by Maroon five, and
- 9:50I'm like, I'm in at. I didn't know this world still existed.
- 9:54This feels like nineteen ninety eight. But I was just shocked, like I
- 9:58didn't know that was still out there and people still. I was at that
- 10:01dentist last week with the twins. They were getting their cleanings done, and
- 10:03the same thing happened. I mean, we are listening to like it's like
- 10:07an eighties nineties type of pop pop music type of station, and it was
- 10:13driving me insane, and they had it up just a little bit too loud
- 10:18too, and I'm like, oh my gosh, well that's that's so the
- 10:22white hairs can hear it. That's true. Yeah, yeah, all right,
- 10:28well, Eric, let's get into the Philadelphia Eagles here, because like,
- 10:31I'm actually I don't know about you, but I'm really excited about.
- 10:33It's like one of the only things in the world of Philly sports and I'm
- 10:37like, really, really really excited about right now is the fact that Howie
- 10:41Roseman has said, fuck it again. We are going to murder. We
- 10:45are going to murder free agency. We are going to kill it when it
- 10:48comes to resigning guys extending certain players. So real quick, folks, in
- 10:54case you've been under a rock, here's the list thus far as we are
- 10:58recording this. They acquired running back Saquon Barkley. They acquired safety C.
- 11:01J. Gardner Johnson. They acquired defensive end Bryce Huff. They acquired wide
- 11:07receiver Devonte Parker. They acquired guard and center Matt Hennessy. They also require
- 11:13acquired linebacker Zach Bonn. And they also decided that they wanted to re sign
- 11:18Brandon Graham for another year, tight end albert O who knows about that one,
- 11:24but long snapper Rick Lovado, punter Braden Man, and they extended Landon
- 11:28Dickerson and Jake Elliott. Those guys are gonna be on the roster for years
- 11:33to come. Now, those are the guys that who are we are going
- 11:39to see in an Eagles uniform at least for a year, if not more.
- 11:43But man, the Saquon Barkley signing, Holy crap. Eric I was
- 11:48so excited. And I know folks are talking about the injury always injury prone.
- 11:52Yeah, he towards ACL, but the fact of the matter is,
- 11:54over the past two years he's played thirty out of the last thirty four games.
- 11:58Like that. There's something to be about that. There really is.
- 12:01He's fine, He's gonna be fine. I I can't believe that how he
- 12:05did this, And I'm gonna say this too for those that follow us on
- 12:07Twitter, I put up on the PSD Twitter slash x account. I was
- 12:13like, there is no way the rumors were coming out about Saquon Barkley and
- 12:16that the contract might be over twelve million dollars a year for a running back,
- 12:20and I'm like, there is no way, based on the contemporary history
- 12:22of this team and what they have done year after year with the running back
- 12:26position, that they are gonna pay that much for a running back in free
- 12:31agency. I'm like, there is no way. I'm like, this is
- 12:33total bullshit. And then about an hour later it happened. I was like,
- 12:39over thirteen million dollars a year. I'm like, holy shit, what
- 12:41a one point eighty in the philosophy of this front office. I don't know
- 12:46if it's the coaching that's gonna be brought in with offensive coordinator Kellen Moore Eric,
- 12:50but like, I'm really excited about them going all in on a lot
- 12:54of these guys, Saquon Barkley, bringing Gardner Johnson back, Bryce huff coming
- 12:58over from the Jets as well. It's I'm like really excited about these moves.
- 13:03I think have all the names you listen, I think the one to
- 13:07really worry about injury wise is uh C J. Gardner Johnson. I think
- 13:11he's the one that I'd be more frightened of but he's much less cost and
- 13:16he's at a you know, not his premium positions, So I like that
- 13:20signing. As far as signing Saquon, you know, every almost every sports
- 13:26league is a copycat league. And I can't imagine the Howie and the Eagles
- 13:33didn't think or didn't watch the Niners get to the Super Bowl with Christian McCaffrey
- 13:37being the center of their offense and didn't decide like, hey, we have
- 13:41two awesome receivers just like the Niners have, where we don't have our McCaffrey,
- 13:46and that I think there's envisioning Barkley being there McCaffrey. And like I
- 13:52said, he of course the injuries are scary with him a little bit because
- 13:56he you know, if any any knee related stuff, like related stuff,
- 14:00you know, that's for a running back that's scared. But what what I
- 14:03mean The story has always been, ah, we'll just patchwork the running back
- 14:07position, right, yep. And it's worked, it's worked well. But
- 14:13if you can get a Christian McCaffrey type performer, top five like offensive player
- 14:18in the league in Saquon Barkley, who by the way, has played for
- 14:22an awful offense for how many years? Are the worst third worst offensive line
- 14:26too that he's been running behind for the past couple of years. See what
- 14:30you want about Jalen Hurts. He no Danny Dimes. I mean Jones sucked
- 14:35ass And I think it's funny the Giants decided to plant their flag in future
- 14:41and that guy and let a guy like Barkley walk and then they signed Singletary
- 14:45for what five six millions some crazy numbers, like why don't you just pay
- 14:48Barkley at that point? Whatever, that's the Giants, screw them. The
- 14:52greatest signing on here is Bryce Huff, you know, because I think that's
- 14:56we talked to a couple weeks about on the show, like defensive end red
- 14:58rusher that as there wasn't a tackle position as much as I think we needed.
- 15:03We just need to help on the edge. He was one of the
- 15:05best guys on the market. He's smaller Brandy Graham's coming back. I say
- 15:09absolutely drafted a larger defensive end in the first round to pair with Huff because
- 15:16it sounds like Reddick won't be bat Hassan. Redick's not going to come back
- 15:18because of the Huff trades. So of all the trade. I like even
- 15:22like having DeVante Parker just a veteran wide receiver in the locker room, you
- 15:26know. And I do have to say, just if Albert what's his what's
- 15:33his last name, I'm not even gonna try. Okay, Albert, Oh,
- 15:35that's what I call it. And you said, oh, and I'm
- 15:39just thinking, like, if he scores a touchdown, he has to do
- 15:41the Bury Oh, the old wrestler. Yes, he would win over the
- 15:46city because that's that's it feeling that Philly is filled with wrestling doors. Wait
- 15:50what absolutely, my god, that would be gred oh over Albert. Oh.
- 15:58It's really It's been a great offseason thus far. I think for the
- 16:03Philadelphia Eagles that, in my opinion, they get an a Like you said,
- 16:06I think one of the most consequential from a defensive standpoint, as this
- 16:10is a team that builds through the trenches, is that Bryce huff pick.
- 16:14Because we know that it looks like, as you said, Son Reddick probably
- 16:18not coming back. It seems as though Josh Sweat is going to be traded
- 16:22as well. In fact, he already put on his Twitter He's like,
- 16:23well, gonna miss Philly, Are gonna miss you guys? Or something like
- 16:26that. So other things are going to be happening. And yes, I
- 16:30can see this team drafting again in the trenches. First round, that first
- 16:34pick of the draft. I think they're pick number twenty two. I can
- 16:37see them actually going and getting a pass rusher, you know, whether it's
- 16:41Chop Robinson from Penn State. I know a lot of mock drafts have him
- 16:45going to the Eagles, but I still think how he could have something up
- 16:49his sleeve. And could they re sign to Son Reddick? Yeah, I
- 16:52mean they still could. It's a possibility. I think it's less of a
- 16:56possibility at this point, but still they're addressing the trench is like they usually
- 17:00do. They know that there is a shift with regard to the defensive line,
- 17:06and it's been my biggest concern heading into this upcoming season. They're addressing
- 17:10it. I just I love what how he's doing here. They're spending money
- 17:12they got, they still got a decent amount of cap room here. So
- 17:15uh, it's gonna be really interesting to see what they do, especially draft
- 17:18wise. Yeah, my only my only fear resigning Reddick along with Huff You're
- 17:23you're really small that position. Then Yeah, I just want I just want
- 17:27one more big guy, feel like we're gonna get run on, especially if
- 17:30our young defensive tackles don't step up and take over. I want to just
- 17:34segue into this Fletcher Cox retiring. Yes, I do think it kind of
- 17:41sucks that he's not getting the same love that Jason Kelsey got because I almost
- 17:45I almost think of Kelsey and Cox as like just they were. They were
- 17:51like the two heads of the team. Yeah, they were in both they
- 17:53were in super important positions and at the front of the offense and defense.
- 18:00Cox was a lifelong Eagle just like Kelsey, was same amount of time pretty
- 18:03much and was awesome. Like, did you do we ever have a season
- 18:10where we complained about Jason Kelsey's before? No, did we ever have one
- 18:14with Fletcher Cox? No? I don't think we ever did. No.
- 18:17He was always fantastic. I mean twenty eighteen, he had ten and a
- 18:18half stacks at the tackle position and they were talking about him being like Aaron
- 18:22Donald like, and I don't. I don't. Again, I don't think
- 18:26he got even close to enough love on his retirement announcement that Jason Kelsey got.
- 18:33And he's gonna be missed big time. A lifelong eagle. Another guy
- 18:36like, where does he rank all time guys that stayed with the team the
- 18:41entire extent of their career. It's up there. It's top five, for
- 18:44sure. Yeah, it's absolutely top five. Look, he missed just six
- 18:48games in his entire twelve year career. Two of those six games came last
- 18:52year, and it was one of the reasons why he decided to hang it
- 18:56up. From what he said, he felt that his play it was not
- 19:02that Pro Bowl caliber type of play that he had been accustomed to for so
- 19:06long. And again he didn't like that he missed two games last year due
- 19:10to injury. And it's like, oh, man, dude, like you
- 19:14still have some stuff in the tank here. I mean, he had five
- 19:15sacks last year, thirty six quarterback pressures, seventeen quarterback hits. He still
- 19:21has some gas in the tank. There's those are good numbers that Like.
- 19:26I was really surprised by it. I thought he had at least another year,
- 19:29possibly two years. But look, I give him all the credit in
- 19:32the world. Perhaps he's saying to himself, Okay, I missed two games.
- 19:33My body's deteriorating. Here. I don't want to go down with a
- 19:37terrible career ending injury that's going to affect me for the rest of my life.
- 19:41Absolutely respect that, But man, I thought he still had more gas
- 19:44in the tank. I think he retired at the perfect time because you just
- 19:47painted it perfectly, like he missed two games last year than probably I think
- 19:51the most he missed all his entire career. Yeah, in one season.
- 19:56He's thirty three, and it's like they've already they've already dropped. This is
- 20:00how long he's there. I mean how many how many guys they draft that
- 20:03were supposed to be his replacement, right right? I mean I got four
- 20:07now, probably else was the same way like but but for his position,
- 20:11they draft first round draft picks and he outlasted them. Yes, but I
- 20:17do think he's going out at a perfect time because, like you said,
- 20:19he probably wants to walk. It's the rest of his life, right,
- 20:22Absolutely, thirty three years old, I made a butt ton of money.
- 20:26I can't can't do much better. And I again shout out to Fletcher Cox.
- 20:30I was hoping he would have got a little more like pub on the
- 20:34retirement. Yeah, same here, same here. Let us know what you're
- 20:37thinking. Philadelphia Sports Table at Gmail dot com. We'd love to read your
- 20:40email here in the show and respond to it with regard to the Philadelphia Eagles
- 20:42team. What's been going on during this offseason with retirements, the acquisitions,
- 20:47the contract extensions, and the resigns. It's an exciting time, it really
- 20:51is. But uh, let's take a break. Let's take a break from
- 20:53sports right now. Let's get into our new top three list here, the
- 21:00top three best TV game shows of all time. I would love to know
- 21:03what yours are out there, folks, because sometimes you just need to step
- 21:07back, take a break from what's going on in your life, what's going
- 21:10on in the world. Game shows are fantastic ways to just completely waste time
- 21:15and be entertained. I know I have had my game shows that I have
- 21:19loved over the past forty six years of my life. So Eric, as
- 21:23I usually do, I'm gonna let you start here, buddy. I have
- 21:26got an honorable mention, and I've got my top three list too, So
- 21:29let's start with you. What are your thoughts here in terms of some of
- 21:32the best TV game shows of all time? Honorable mention would be excuse me.
- 21:40I used to love Press Your Luck Oh so much energy The host was
- 21:45really good. I can't remember his name right now, but he was.
- 21:48He was like a legit. He was he had the hair and the voice.
- 21:52Yeah, he's in the pantheon with Wink Martin Dale in terms of like
- 21:57what else could this person do for a living besides being a corny morning radio
- 22:02show or TV show? Right, they just have just have that game show
- 22:04vibe. But Pressure Luck just had the what a gimmick? The whammy?
- 22:10Yes, I mean I remember seeing wammy T shirts when I was a kid
- 22:11in the eighties. But my favorite thing about game shows, and one of
- 22:17one of my top three has this has this weird thing I like the macabre
- 22:22sometimes or the back there's or weird story surrounding the game show. Yeah,
- 22:26yeah, that happened. And I don't know if you ever saw it.
- 22:30You go on YouTube and just put in Pressure Luck cheating scandal. Oh,
- 22:34there's a short documentary on a guy named Michael Larson And this was like this
- 22:40is back in the day when Pressure Luck only had like they only had like
- 22:44thirty combinations going on the board. Okay, this was like pre they weren't
- 22:48using computers to do the trigonometry. The programming of the thing right, apparently
- 22:55only had like thirty thirty patterns or thirty spots. I had a pattern and
- 22:59this guy figured it out on TV, got on the show and then went
- 23:03on to win like three over three hundred thousand dollars, which on that show
- 23:04is absurd, right or something like that, And apparently it changed the way
- 23:10all game shows worked. Oh, they made all these different paths, Like
- 23:14they put like twenty thousand patterns in after this guy, and then he went
- 23:18on to like lose all his money, he got robbed, he died young
- 23:22of a heart. It was just, oh, my weird, I know,
- 23:25but I like that this nice, wholesome, fun game show has this
- 23:27weird side story. And I don't know if you definitely go on YouTube and
- 23:33look at Michael Larson. I think it's a quick dock. I think it's
- 23:36like thirty minutes. It is fun to watch. I gotta I gotta look
- 23:37that up. I'm actually writing it down right now. I have to big
- 23:41Bucks, No whammies. It's a great honorable mention, it really is.
- 23:48I remember, you know, with contestants looking looking for that button to stop
- 23:53the flashing board, you know, in this awesome nineteen eighties type of show
- 24:00is a lot of fun. And I also thought in my honorable mention too,
- 24:03what I thought was fun because because it got a little saucy, eric
- 24:07was Love Connection. Love Connect look for more than a decade. Love Connection
- 24:14was one of the most popular game shows the eighties, and I get I
- 24:15think the early nineties as well. I remember watching it mostly in the eighties
- 24:19and just Chuck Wallery was he was the host. Oh my gosh, yeah,
- 24:25now he's doing now Chuck Woolery is doing. I forget what infomercials that
- 24:30he's doing right now, but I just remember his name. But anyway,
- 24:32studio audience members, they would vote for their selections on who who should date
- 24:37who afterward and just the comical at times sauciness of oh my gosh, this
- 24:45person, this person doesn't like to sleep with the covers on at night,
- 24:48oh you know, and it would always be the ooh ah type of thing.
- 24:55And I always thought it was funny. I really did. So I'm
- 24:56going with Love Connection as my honorable mention. I remember Love Connection, and
- 25:03I have I have some additional thoughts on it because for one of my top
- 25:07three, but I I remember watching that show as a kid and like not
- 25:12really understanding what the hell was going on because I didn't I didn't know what
- 25:17dating was it Like, I was adults talking about weird stuff. I didn't
- 25:22understand. Chuck Glory went on to become like some right wing weirdo. Yes,
- 25:26who does? Who does? Like it does infomercials on like put gold
- 25:30in your walls and that kind of stuff. Is that what it is?
- 25:32Okay? Yeah, we're in reverse mortgage ship to fool the white hair as
- 25:37we talked about earlier. Yes, yeah, all right, very good.
- 25:38All right, what's your number three top game show of all time? Okay,
- 25:45so I'm going to go right into It stems from the love Connection one,
- 25:48and the dating game was another one that there you go, kind of
- 25:53tied to love connection. Love connection was more. Love connection was more like
- 25:59there wasn't a lot of double on Tandra and love connection. It was more
- 26:02straightforward, like I went on date dates with these three people and this is
- 26:07how it went, you know. And there was a little bit of that
- 26:08double the seventies version way more cocaine and alcohol evolved and and you were still
- 26:15in the time of like schlocky humor, and every game show host thought he
- 26:21had to have like, you know, a dick joke, but it was
- 26:23like it was hidden because it was on TV, Like like the Match Game
- 26:26was a great example of that match game or Hollywood Squares, but the Dating
- 26:30Game was just full on. It was just kind of gross. Yeah,
- 26:34if you remember, everyone on the show was just kind of they looked like
- 26:37they had herpes. And you watch it now, you watch those episodes now
- 26:41and you're like, how is how would this person sitting here in on camera
- 26:47here be considered even semi attractive And the guys were typically skiv Yeah, for
- 26:53the most part. And I'll tie that back into the this one dating game
- 26:59also has a weird side story that that's pretty pretty famous one. But I
- 27:03feel like it was the precursor internet stalking. It was the dating game because
- 27:07like you were just revealing your information right there in the front of everybody.
- 27:11Yeah, and that's the only way you can stalk anybody because you have it
- 27:15online. So I feel like these poor people once they left the show probably
- 27:21got stalked by weirdos who knew their name and knew where they lived. They
- 27:25say where they lived, It's insane exactly, but that's so true. It's
- 27:30like stalking in ants stalking for sure. Yeah, I'm I'm I'm I'm Monica
- 27:37blah blah blah. I live in Los Angeles in Hollywood, and it's like,
- 27:41what the hell you just crazy? This is back when there's three stations.
- 27:47Twenty million people are watching this, right, Yes, I love that
- 27:51one. And speaking of weird stalking, and this goes way more than that.
- 27:56Like there's a story of you can go ahead and google it too.
- 28:00Neil Kala was he, he was on he was on it. He was
- 28:03on an episode of the Dating Game, and he wound up being like a
- 28:08Ted Bundy figure. He'd looked like Howard Stern, he had long curly hair.
- 28:14He was on the show and he uh, if you watch it now,
- 28:18I'm sure at the time people were like, oh, he's so funny.
- 28:19It was like, no, he's a creep, like more so than
- 28:22the other creeps. And he wound up being like a serial killer and like
- 28:26in kidnapping women. Like again, like I think, if you have that
- 28:30kind of show, you're gonna draw some real weirdos. Yeah, well to
- 28:37the game, to the show. So sorry to end it on a creepy
- 28:38note, but again it is it is Ridney al Kala and Michael Larson.
- 28:42Just go ahead and Google and you'll enjoy yourself like an hour just reading through
- 28:45it. I mean, yeah, I don't think there are dating game shows
- 28:48anymore at this point, not in this day and age of the Internet.
- 28:52That's the reason why folks, Oh my gosh, I gotta have to look
- 28:56those up. I really am. I'm gonna have to look up the cheating
- 29:00scandal with Press your Luck and also the Rodney h uh what was his name,
- 29:03Rodney l al kala ah la. Yeah, all right, boy,
- 29:08But well that that puts to my number three. I don't know. My
- 29:14number three is where I started to learn a little bit about humor, okay,
- 29:18and I'm going with Remote Control on MTV. Yeah it was. I
- 29:22mean it was MTV's first ever like non musical program that ran from eighty seven
- 29:29to ninety. It was only three years and you had three contestants that were
- 29:33on and if when they got eliminated, they would just like be forced through
- 29:37a wall or or put upside down to get out of there. And the
- 29:41Late Ken Ober he hosted, and I remember it was one of the first
- 29:45times I really started to understand comedy because of somebody who we have followed for
- 29:51years, Eric Colin Quinn. He served as the show's announcer, and I
- 29:56know there was a girl on there. I think her name is Carrie as
- 29:57well, who helped out for a couple of seasons as well. And as
- 30:03many of us know, young comedian and writer Adam Sandler, that's where he
- 30:07kind of got his start within the showbiz industry again as a writer for the
- 30:14show. And I just I loved the show. It was something new for
- 30:18me growing up. It was something where I was actually looking forward to it.
- 30:21It was one of those first shows that I like dealing with pop culture,
- 30:26understanding what pop culture was. From the time I was a I mean
- 30:27in eighty seven, I was ten years old, like I was ten to
- 30:33thirteen years old when this show came out. I was just starting to learn
- 30:37about the world, but again about comedy because there was so many funny moments
- 30:41on that show. I just remember laughing a ton at Remote Control, mainly
- 30:45Colin Quinn and the back and forth, the chemistry that Quinn had with Ken
- 30:51Ober. It was. It was a great show. And that's why that's
- 30:53why Remote controls my number three, her name was Carrie, were carry were
- 30:59that's what it was. Yeah, if you're twelve and you're watching that show,
- 31:03you were just like, wow, yes, oh just whistling Dixon.
- 31:07He No, I wouldn't throw out a bed freet and cracking jip and I
- 31:14yeah, Colin Quinn's one of my favorite comics ever. He's so funny.
- 31:18But I don't remember on the show he he looked like a complete Brooklyn asshole.
- 31:22Yep, and that was kind of his character. But his hair,
- 31:25he had the mullet. He just looked the mullet, the leather jacket.
- 31:29Yeah, And I always thought I always thought that remote control was the remote
- 31:34control was double Dare, Like Double Dare was for teenagers or young like ten
- 31:38year olds, and double and remote Control was like double Dare for like if
- 31:44you're in nearly twenties. You know, we maybe get into that show in
- 31:47a little bit here, but I always put those two together. Like for
- 31:52us, we were in the middle, like we were thirteen fourteen, so
- 31:55we would watch both. Yeah, and he is just into both. But
- 31:59I'm sorry if you did Doubledare. What's your number two here? Number two
- 32:06again? This is I used to love the Game show Network when that was
- 32:08I think it's still on. But I you know, back when when cable
- 32:13first finally started expanding really expanding, in like the early two thousands or late
- 32:16nineties, the Game Show Network. Man, I just had that on all
- 32:19the time because I was, you know, I was hungover twenty percent of
- 32:22my life, and Game Show Network is a perfect hangover channel of the morning,
- 32:27even in the evening. And uh god, my favorite. I used
- 32:30to love Card Sharks. Ooh yeah, both the both the late seventies and
- 32:36the mid eighties versions Jim Parry and Bob you Banks. Yes, yeah,
- 32:40it was, and they still this. This was still the era of the
- 32:45long the long microphone stick. Yes, the dude from Match Game like made
- 32:52popular. It was really I don't know why they needed this gigantic it's huge.
- 32:58Yeah, well, I mean I always thought it was, like,
- 33:01again, the seventies were so horny and weird and schlocky that I'm sure it
- 33:06was some phallic thing going on. But I like Card Sharks because you could
- 33:13be the biggest moron on the planet. Like we've all watched Jeopardy and pretended
- 33:16we know the answer and we would say the answer as the person was seeing
- 33:20the answer, Like, oh yeah, I knew it, yeah, but
- 33:22at heart, we're all stupid. And Card Sharks was so simple. I
- 33:28mean it was there was really no logic to the game. It was just
- 33:30it was chance. It was fifty to fifty, yep. And but what
- 33:35I liked about it though, was it was really quick. It was intense,
- 33:39but such low stakes. Yes, the people won like four hundred bucks.
- 33:45I mean, it was just the game was hardly innovative, no,
- 33:50not at all. And when you're just laying on the couch drooling on yourself
- 33:52because it's just like, ah, this is good. And then that show
- 33:57so didn't give a shit, but they would just end and like during the
- 34:00middle of the show like hey Bob, you lost, You're out bring on
- 34:05contestine. And then then that episode would like they'd be like one round in
- 34:08and the guy be like, all right, time's up. We'll continue this
- 34:12tomorrow. And it's like, don't these people like don't theyed to go to
- 34:15work tomorrow over now? Like how do you know when you're you're kid,
- 34:20you didn't realize they shoot like thirty episodes one day. But I just love
- 34:22that they just ended the fucking show and like we'll finish it tomorrow because someone
- 34:27really again, it's super intense, but the stakes are like two hundred dollars
- 34:30they're gonna win. I don't know, there's there's kind of a beauty to
- 34:34that that there's no I don't have to think it's so dumb and it's so
- 34:37simple exactly. You could be lying on the couch homesick from school put that
- 34:42on, and you're you're just gonna be happy watching that. I always loved
- 34:45the fact that there that they were working off a deck of like fifty two
- 34:50life sized cards, and I was always like, I want those cards here
- 34:53in my house, dude, I saw my note I forgot about who didn't
- 35:01want those cards? Yes, they were like they were like this big didn't
- 35:07have a technology yet to do the electronic things that actually had these actual cards.
- 35:12I love it. Well. My number two is we just mentioned it
- 35:15a few minutes ago here. Double Dare doubledare arguably the most popular like kid
- 35:22game show growing up on Nickelodeon. It was just apparently I didn't even know
- 35:28this. There was a Double Dare game show in the seventies. We're talking
- 35:30a lot about seventies. I wasn't aware that there was another Double Dare game
- 35:35show in the seventies, but nineteen eighty six is when this particular double Dare
- 35:39that I'm talking about came out, and man it apparently it came back in
- 35:43twenty eighteen. Probably didn't last. I had no idea, no idea at
- 35:47all. But it was hosted by Mark Summers and it was just a bunch
- 35:51of wacky physical challenges. The kids got involved in a lot of liquid concoctions,
- 35:55a lot of pudding and slime and just disgusting stuff that they had to
- 36:00run through. They get to get tapioca putting on their face, stuff,
- 36:07sliding down a sliding board or whatever. It was. It was just fun.
- 36:12It was kind of a wholesome, family friendly kind of game show.
- 36:15And I'm watching that and Remote Control, Like those were the two games game
- 36:20shows that I would watch at the same like during the same age like again,
- 36:23from like from ten to like thirteen years old, I would watch these
- 36:28these two shows and it was a huge part of my huge part of my
- 36:31adolescence. And it was it was it was just a fun game show.
- 36:37I always wanted to be on it. And I remember one time I tried
- 36:38to make an obstacle course in the house and My mom was like, what
- 36:42the hell are you doing? She's like, quit using the pots and pans?
- 36:49What what? Kid? Didn't try to make an obstacle course because we
- 36:52used to try to do in the backyard. But you fill a kittie pull
- 36:54up and you just wanted to get your hands on some green slime. But
- 36:59you know who that? How do you do that? But right, what
- 37:01a great show. Again, such low stakes. The things you win is
- 37:06like a new nerve football, like if you get like one, if you
- 37:09beat one, and yeah, great show. And again some of the weird
- 37:17side stuff. Apparently Mark Summers is one of the worst. Like he can't
- 37:23touch stuff. He washes his hands like eighty times a day. He's one
- 37:27of those guys. Oh it's like it's like Jack Nicholson and as good as
- 37:30it gets. Yeah, while he's on Bubble there is the grossest show.
- 37:35And I will say this, this is total nostalgia for you know people our
- 37:39age. Do you remember the show Funhouse? Oh yeah, it's kind of
- 37:44an offshoot. It was kind of a copycat. Yeah, and that used
- 37:47to be on back to back and it's funny like these shows, like I
- 37:52think of them as being like on for thirty years like Jeopardy, but when
- 37:54you go and look, it was like Funhouse was on for two seasons.
- 37:58Yeah, I think Remote Control was like three. That's it. Maybe,
- 38:00yeah, that's it. Double Dare just a few seasons also. But we
- 38:05thought back then time went so slow back then. Now time's going real fast.
- 38:09Yeah, we're gonna die soon, exactly. Yeah. And we had
- 38:15ten We had ten channels and nothing to do. And I remember recently I
- 38:20was talking to my son Vinnie and describing one of my summer days back when
- 38:25I was like twelve, almost his eight, and he was just like,
- 38:30that sounds boring. I'm like, listen, I didn't have a PS four,
- 38:32I didn't have a PC. Right. I played a game called bounce
- 38:37Ball for six hours. My mom's gonna get out of the house at nine,
- 38:39come home at six just geet it out of my face, Like that's
- 38:43what That's what I had to do, dude. So yep, exactly.
- 38:46I remember I really quick before he headed to our number ones. I remember
- 38:51making Jello one. So my mom's like, why are you making a whole
- 38:53thing a jello like that? What are you gonna eat? I go,
- 38:55no, I'm gonna put it over my sister's head. We're playing. She's
- 39:01like, don't do that. Damn all right, well, let's do our
- 39:05number ones here. What is your number one game show of all time?
- 39:08Buddy? Number one is I'm cheating a little bit, but I always thought
- 39:14it was. I always kind of thought it was a game show because it's
- 39:16a contest. And it was. In nineteen sixty there was a show called
- 39:22Home Run Derby. Ah. It was only two seasons and I think it
- 39:28was like twenty six episodes total, but it's it's literally home run Derby like
- 39:35you would have in your backyard with a whiffle ball right with the ball stick
- 39:38and you have a fence in the back. But this was actually like two
- 39:44top major leaguers at the time. We're talking, Hank Aaron, Mickey Mannle
- 39:47Al Kline like some of the harmon Killer Brew and Hank Aaron Mickey Mantle would
- 39:52play would do Home Run Derby. Yeah, in an empty stadium in Los
- 39:57Angeles. I think it was called Wrigley Field back then, which is weird.
- 40:00Yeah, but it wasn't a major league stadium. It was like an
- 40:04offshoot stadium and you can see houses behind the fence and like there was no
- 40:08crowd. There was an extremely dull announcer announcing each pitch, Mark Scott.
- 40:15Yeah, and he was and he was your typical Like there's a reason he
- 40:17didn't. I don't think he did actual baseball games. Right now, right
- 40:22like that, here comes the pitch, it's a home run to left field.
- 40:25I was. But like we complain about the dunk contests and superstars not
- 40:31wanting to do it, like this show had like the top stars of the
- 40:35day playing home run derby in their uniforms, no crowd. It was just
- 40:39like three people in the stadium. And then but the best part is it
- 40:44as the other batter was hitting like he would, he would be interviewing uh,
- 40:47the other player. And the interviews were the worst interviews you've ever heard
- 40:52in They were so boring. None of these guys had like pr people then
- 40:58or like to prep them. Like now every guy is like is ready to
- 41:00go, you know, yeah, especially if he's on TV doing a TV
- 41:05show, you know, a Bryce Harper, whoever's they're gonna be on it
- 41:07and they're gonna have talking points. But when I tell you, like I'm
- 41:12looking at the episode list here, when Ken Boyer, I'm pretty sure,
- 41:16Ken Boyer versus Harmon kill A grew okay, is Ken Boyer is one of
- 41:22the worst interviewees you've ever heard. He's scared to death. He sounds like
- 41:27wallpaper. But I used to love the show. I think there's only twenty
- 41:30six. I think it says here you can actually watch it on Prime for
- 41:34free. Oh my gosh. Yeah, And I'm definitely gonna go back and
- 41:37watch it. Yeah, and we show it to my son to be like,
- 41:40this is what people used to watch. And it's amazing that that talent
- 41:45like Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays went on that show. I mean we're talking
- 41:49about big time talent in the world of baseball was right there and they couldn't
- 41:54get any momentum going with this particular show at all because it was just so
- 42:00poorly handled and and just poorly thought out. Great great concept. You had
- 42:06the stars Eddie Matthews, Duke Snyder, Hank Aaron and it and it fizzled
- 42:09out after after two seasons. Basically, I again, it was like and
- 42:15there was no advertising. Defence has no advertising. What are you doing?
- 42:22It's almost like they snuck these guys in and and but didn't have the concept
- 42:24and actually all you need was one big time producer to go, what the
- 42:29fuck are you doing? It'd be huge. That's my I think why I
- 42:32love the show again. It's got card sharks. It's so simple. Yeah
- 42:36yeah, and they're playing for like a charity like the Dog and Cat Charity
- 42:42of Los Angeles. Like it's really like small charity things. It was like
- 42:45two thousand bucks too, like each each winner would get like two thousand dollars
- 42:50or something. Maybe maybe, Yeah, I love that one. I really.
- 42:54It's amazing how a cool concept like that could just be complete, deletely,
- 43:00completely just shoved into the ground because they had no clue on how to
- 43:06do anything. Like what a great concept, but it was just completely not
- 43:09done done well in terms of its advertising, in terms of just probably how
- 43:15they build it what it was. I mean again, like I said,
- 43:17you have Mickey Mannal and Willie Mays and you can't get this. You can't
- 43:22get any momentum here. It's pretty amazing. My number one, as we're
- 43:27finishing up the list here is it's kind of a I mean, it's gonna
- 43:30be an obvious one, and I have to do it because I would watch
- 43:35this constantly growing up and it was the price is right, I mean,
- 43:38and then hearing about all of the stories about Bob Barker, who was the
- 43:43main host before Drew Carrey, who, by the way, Drew carry I
- 43:47think he's done a serviceable job as the host. I think he has.
- 43:52But you hear a lot of those stories about Bob Barker and Barker's beauty's,
- 43:57you know, the Diane Parkinson's it was one of the Barker's beauties, and
- 44:01how he was just such a pervert, and it's like, we gotta,
- 44:06we gotta, we gotta get with these Barker's beauties this week here, and
- 44:09uh I just the game itself was always fun. It just seemed like I
- 44:15uh I always wanted to be on it. And in fact, one of
- 44:19my one of my favorite guitarists from one of my favorite bands, Adam Duka
- 44:22Witch from kill Switch Engage, was actually on the show. He was on
- 44:24the show and made it to the showcase showdown as well. I think he
- 44:30won. I think he won. So I'm going with the prices right,
- 44:34number one, A couple of prices right thoughts. Of course, I mean,
- 44:37if if you skip school from your kid, and I say skip school,
- 44:42you just tell your parents you're sick, right exactly, you're watching this,
- 44:44Oh, prices right is on? Dude. Yeah, and hopefully your
- 44:46mom's not there with you or somebody you know, have to watch a guiding
- 44:50light or some shit. Now the price is right always. Uh yeah,
- 44:54Bob Barker again one of you know, always in line with the long list
- 45:01of pervy game show hosts. I think pervy was kind of a requirement back
- 45:07then in the seventies game show. I mean, Richard Dawson used to make
- 45:09out with Grandma's on Family Feud. It was just disgusting, man. God.
- 45:15Yeah, but Barker was definitely kind of pervy. And uh here's here,
- 45:19here's here's speaking to his longevity on that show. He was there so
- 45:22long that you know, people I knew would have had opinions on him when
- 45:29you're just like, you don't even know who he is, Like my,
- 45:30my, my, my Nana, God bless her, God, bless her
- 45:34soul. Was she watched it all the time whenever I'd stay with her.
- 45:37She hated Bob Barker so much, but watched the show. Hate watched it
- 45:43because she hated him. Here's the reason why. Because in her mind.
- 45:47He was on for so long. In every episode he would talk about getting
- 45:51your cat's spade or your pet sah and in her mind because she just that's
- 45:57that was she watched him every day. It was like this guy was in
- 46:00her life every day. She hated him because he cared more about animals than
- 46:05people. Oh geez, that so he should have said something along the lines
- 46:12of, you know, UH, make a contribution to your uh, to
- 46:15your local homeless shelter. You know, he should have said, or span
- 46:20new to your your children, Jesus. But that's how long he was on
- 46:25the show. Yes, she was like, I know this person and I
- 46:29hate him. I hate that about him, and it's like, watch it.
- 46:32He was in your life every day. Yes, I'd love to know
- 46:37what your top three game shows are. Yeah, I didn't put the Jeopardy
- 46:40stuff on my list. I didn't go with like family Feud and stuff.
- 46:44Look, I think Jeopardy quite frankly, is one of the most overrated game
- 46:46shows. I really do, because it's like, and you know, I
- 46:50know, I just I'm not a big fan. It's like, oh,
- 46:52we got to be smart here. And yet my friend Lauren dad in d
- 46:58C. He was actually on Jeopardy once and not that he's listening, but
- 47:00still, I just I haven't been the biggest Jeopardy probably because I'm dumb and
- 47:07I don't know anything so exactly. That's probably why Eric's like, all right,
- 47:14but yeah, let us know what you're thinking out there, Philadelphia Sports
- 47:16Stable at gmail dot com. Let us know what you're thinking about our top
- 47:19three list and what your favorite game shows are too. We'd love to talk
- 47:22about it here on the show. Do you have anything else before you go
- 47:25to break? I couldn't even name another game show at this point, how
- 47:30much game show we've talked. I know. All right, We're gonna take
- 47:34you a quick break to pay some of the bills around here, exactly.
- 47:38All right, we'll be back in just a bit. All right, we
- 47:42are back, and uh, before I let Eric go, we're gonna we're
- 47:45gonna talk about the Philadelphia Sony six Ers. This could be a two minute
- 47:49conversation, really, Eric, you shut off? You shut off a tweet
- 47:52to our group chat about that highlighted Tobias Harris. This is defensive prowess.
- 48:01It was some of the worst dog shit I have ever seen. This Sixers
- 48:06team is not just flailing right now. At this point, they really just
- 48:10look like they've given up, and it really sucks because of the type of
- 48:14player Tyres Maxi is, what he's been and what he's done for this team
- 48:17throughout the year, and it really just seems like they are like, Okay,
- 48:22yeah, we don't have Joe el Embiid. We're just we stink no,
- 48:24right, another game on the court. It sucks watching this team having
- 48:30to be invested in putting them on every few nights and stuff. Eric,
- 48:36I am really getting tired of this team and the lack of motivation, specifically
- 48:39from players like Tobias Harris, who is just unplayable at this point. A
- 48:44few nights ago against the next two Points on twenty six minutes played, he
- 48:50had three rebounds. My god, I mean, the guy's unplayable here at
- 48:54this point. I don't know what are your thoughts here. You're the Sixers
- 48:57guy here on the show. It's just on watchable. Well, I don't
- 49:01claim this team right now, dude, I can't. I can't vouch.
- 49:07Like I said last week, this is process level shit six Ers. Like
- 49:10I mean, I sent you that clip. It was all over Twitter,
- 49:15but I mean it, man, it's it's it's the antithesis of this dude's
- 49:19career, you know, when it matters and it has to be put on
- 49:22the line, and he's the guy he I mean, he's never disappeared this
- 49:27badly. Yeah, you know, like like like the other night against the
- 49:30Knicks, who team they just beat, like by six points the night before
- 49:34or two nights before, and you have him at home. There's I mean,
- 49:38I know Anonobe was back for them, but man, they go twenty
- 49:43six minutes, two points, three rebounds and it's just not even play hard.
- 49:46Yeah, Like I you know, there used to be a warm spot
- 49:50in my heart for that guy a little bit, like when he's talented and
- 49:52I think he'll have a big moment in his career and it could be with
- 49:54this team or probably any team. So now they're slowly playing themselves out of
- 49:59the playoffs. I'm looking at the standings right now, they are one game
- 50:05out of the eight spot. Oh yeah, that's they're right there. And
- 50:08I mean here's the crazy thing. They're the Bulls are only four and a
- 50:14half games beneath them in the nine hole. The Bulls are supposed to be
- 50:16tanking and horrible, yes, and we're trying and we're just we're almost at
- 50:22their level. I mean, if again, at the playoffs started today,
- 50:25we couldn't beat a single team, like, not even close. And they
- 50:29they played the Bucks tonight, they're going to get demolished. I mean,
- 50:31it's just going to be hideous. And I don't know if the NBA flexes,
- 50:36but like I think, to me, that game would have been the
- 50:39first T and T game, but now it's Celtic suns. I am not
- 50:44sure if T and T might have flexed and been like we're not we're not
- 50:45shown this ship Sixers team on national TV right after being on national TV Tuesday
- 50:51night. It's looking horrible, but it's it's really sad, like it's I
- 50:55mean, at least with Maxie of a shot. Without MAXI you know,
- 50:59you don't, it's just it's just pathetic, and it's just I I know
- 51:04I'm a true Sixers fan, but I don't. I don't really care if
- 51:07Mobamba plays well. I don't really give a ship how much better? Uh,
- 51:14Paul, what the hell is the kid's name? The yeah yeah?
- 51:20Or just just any young guy or Paul Reid. Sorry, Like I don't,
- 51:23I just don't I'm at the point of six ers. Done with this
- 51:27team, unless you're going to rebuild again, which I don't know if I
- 51:30can handle another one. Jeff, I might have to leave the show.
- 51:31I might leave Pennsylvania, but I I just like, I'm at the point
- 51:37now. Yeah, it's cute the young guys are playing. I don't give
- 51:39a ship. I just want I just want them to get to the conference
- 51:43championship. And it's it's kind of over like this. Yeah, even if
- 51:46it be comes back, what does this team have left? You know?
- 51:51I mean, I just I would have loved to have seen it healed play
- 51:53with and being Maxie just once, but I don't think that's even gonna happen.
- 51:58And obviously trading Parris at the deadline was a huge mistake because he spent
- 52:05I sent the pregame post game splits or'm sorry pre All Star Break post All
- 52:09Star Break splits to my brother and we were just like, oh my god,
- 52:13how could you get worse? Yeah, and he's proving us wrong again,
- 52:16Tobias Harris, so yep, Like, yeah, much to talk about
- 52:21there really isn't like you. I've always kind of defended him on the show
- 52:22and when We've had various guests on the Table talk show or guests that I've
- 52:27talked to as well. I've always said, you know what, he's done
- 52:30some really good things over the course of his career, but like you said,
- 52:34in these moments where he needs to step up, and it's just not
- 52:36this season. I mean talk about the playoffs too. You know when Embiid
- 52:39has basically been injured in the second round every single year, he has never
- 52:45really stepped up when he needed to in those big moments. And that's the
- 52:49story of Tobias Harris's career. He is what he is right now. In
- 52:52fact, it's actually worse than what he is at this point in time.
- 52:57I have no idea why or how I should say how a guy as talented
- 53:01as him has fallen off a cliff. This fact, like it is huge
- 53:07in terms of him falling off a cliff as fast as he has over this
- 53:10past three week, three four weeks. It's it's really incredible to see.
- 53:15I mean, who knows if he even gets a league minimum next year.
- 53:17I'm not even kidding the NBA stumm Still somebody will sign him for decent money.
- 53:23Yeah, yeah, But the problem, the problem for this team is
- 53:28and I'll finish up because who the hell cares about it? Is a place
- 53:30team right now? Is that? Because in Bean Max here and playing now
- 53:37the now, the spotlight is on the rest of the team and the rest
- 53:39of the moves that were made at the All Star break. And I think
- 53:42we all agree that Buddy healed was a great move because he gave up nothing.
- 53:45Yep. But why do they bring campaign in? Yeah? Why did
- 53:49they trade away? Why did they trade away? Uh? What's the kid's
- 53:52name too? The Bucks? Like, like why why would they? Yeah,
- 53:55why would he trade pat bev and bring campaign campaigns? Sucks ass?
- 54:00And if embiid was here and MAXI and did the whole thing, like I
- 54:04would complain about it, but I'd be like, ah, whatever. He's
- 54:07a bench guy, like Kyle Lowry is fifty two years old. He barely
- 54:12plays. He looked like shit for the heat the past two years. And
- 54:15now that he'd spotlight on that move, like you just you took your you
- 54:19took your signing money for a player that was like, you know, got
- 54:22cut and that's what you used it on. Yeah, that's some great stories
- 54:24from Philly, But I don't give a shit. He sucks so now like
- 54:28now, now, now, as a fan, I'm bummed down. I
- 54:30almost so pissed, Like yeah, but because you don't have those people on
- 54:35the way to shadow what the crappy kind of kind of crappy move you made.
- 54:38Yeah, absolutely, all right, Well we're gonna head out here now.
- 54:43I'm gonna let you go, Eric, great discussions. Love the top
- 54:45three list. I gotta say, Eagles in top three list. Great discussions
- 54:50here. Screw the Sixers, just screw him. All right, Well,
- 54:54we're gonna let Eric go here. We're gonna take a break here, really
- 55:00quick quick break before we get to Counselman Isaiah Thomas to talk about the Philly
- 55:04based NIL legislation that he's getting through city Hall. And then we got some
- 55:08flyers talk as well. Let's take that quick break. We'll be right back.
- 55:13All right, we're back, and now we're going to get into a
- 55:15great discussion and wanted to update you on that Philly based NIL legislation that is
- 55:22soon going to be coming law in the city of Philadelphia that's gonna assist high
- 55:24school youth athletes. Let's get to the conversation now with Counselman Isaiah Thomas,
- 55:30joining us from the confines of Philadelphia City Hall. He is the author of
- 55:36the Philly NIL legislation that we're going to be getting into and how it's going
- 55:39to affect student athletes in the city of Philadelphia. We've got the one and
- 55:43only counselman, Isaiah Thomas. How you doing, Isaiah? And I'm sorry,
- 55:46counselman, I should say, dear lord, I'm a public official myself.
- 55:50How are you a counselman? I'm doing great? You said the one
- 55:53and only, though I think that there are some other Isaiah Thomas is out
- 55:55there that's gonna offer a little pushback, but other than that, I'm going
- 56:00no, you are my one and only, sir. That's it. I'm
- 56:02with it perfect, It's your right, one and only. I love it.
- 56:07Well, listen, counselman. You know we dove into the nil legislation
- 56:09that you introduced at City Hall, better known as the Philly Nil Youth Protection
- 56:14Act, the last time that you were on the podcast, and you've been
- 56:15good enough to join us a couple of times over the course of the past
- 56:19you know, year year and a half or so. For those listeners who
- 56:22may not have been around during the first couple of appearances here on the podcast,
- 56:25I'm hoping you can kind of give us an overview and give those folks
- 56:29an overview about how you've been really wanting to help youth athletes in the city
- 56:34as it pertains to NIL issues and initiatives with youth and in City of Philadelphia.
- 56:39Well, first and foremost, NIL is an acronym for name, image,
- 56:44and likeness, and what we are looking to do is offer some sort
- 56:46of protection now that NIL is an option for young people at the high school
- 56:51level. So recently the PIBA, which is the Pennsylvania and A Scholastic Athletic
- 56:55Association that's the body that governs high school athletic they allow for NIL deals to
- 57:01come. And as a person who not just governs in the City of Philadelphia,
- 57:06but coaches high school basketball and sits on the board for PIAA District twelve,
- 57:09specifically, we all thought about some of the problems that might present themselves
- 57:16outside of the good that comes with ANIL deal. So I'm going to protect
- 57:21some of our most vulnerable student athletes in the City of Philadelphia. We introduced
- 57:24an NIL Protection Act, which basically would say that we're going to create a
- 57:30public private partnership to ensure that anything a young person needs to be able to
- 57:36sign an NIL deal that is not within their own network or within their own
- 57:40reach. This legislation will basically say that government will work with the private sector
- 57:45to assure those services are available. So, whether you're talking about legal support
- 57:51to sign up contract, financial support on how to invest your money, support
- 57:55from an accountant on how much you owe in taxis all these things now available
- 58:00for student athletes in the city at Philadelphia who comes from a household of less
- 58:04than one hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year. It's a great initiative.
- 58:07And again, this is something that we've talked about, not only with you
- 58:10on this podcast platform, but what you know, my co hosts and I
- 58:14have talked about as well, the fact that you know, what, if
- 58:17there are sports associations, you know, whether it is on the college level
- 58:22or even on the local level, that are making money off of student athletes
- 58:27in some way, shape or form, student athletes should be compensated in some
- 58:30way. So I kind of wanted to dive into this a little bit further
- 58:34with you because the legislation has now passed and I was so excited to hear
- 58:39that news of getting the press release about it was it was really fantastic to
- 58:45read everything. The city is going to be partnering with the Temple University School
- 58:47of Law to navigate nil deals for high school athletes by offering like you were
- 58:53talking about just now, free legal and financial advice and other tax of advice
- 59:00as well. And my understanding is that first Mayor Parker she needs to sign
- 59:06this bill into law, because I know that Mayor Kenny vetoed it initially.
- 59:12So first do you know if the mayor is going to be signing this into
- 59:15law? And also even when it actually does become law, and it may
- 59:20be already and I may just not realize it, how do you foresee the
- 59:22outreach efforts really taking shape to let student athletes know that they can get assistance
- 59:29if they really need it. That's a great question. Let's start with the
- 59:31outleach part first. So the public private partnership that we have set up is
- 59:37with Temple University, which is one of the biggest universities in the city of
- 59:42Philadelphia, and they've agreed to provide the support systems that the bill essentially says
- 59:47will be offered. So we are talking about free legal support, accounting information
- 59:52on taxes, as well as financial support. Temple is going to be doing
- 59:55all that. Unfortunately, the previous mayor, I'm not sure how they dropped
- 1:00:00the ball, but their concern around the legislation was that they didn't think the
- 1:00:06city should be, you know, fiscally responsible for providing these services, and
- 1:00:09how some way they missed the fact that this was going to be a public
- 1:00:12private partnership and it wouldn't cost any money. We're just basically guaranteeing that the
- 1:00:15services are there. So because this doesn't cost the city any money, and
- 1:00:20because it's not illegal to provide this support for young people, we already have
- 1:00:24a hotline set up in collaboration with Temple University where young people could call and
- 1:00:30get these services. Currently, once the mayor signs it into law, which
- 1:00:34were optimistic will happen before the end of the month. That basically just means
- 1:00:37that we're legally responsible to assure that the services continue. But as of right
- 1:00:43now, we've already talked to athletic directors and administrators across the city of Philadelphia.
- 1:00:47They all know that the NIL hotline exists in collaboration with typical University and
- 1:00:52we're actively planning at NIL convention in Philadelphia, but we're going to invite student
- 1:00:57athletes to meet local businesses to try to allow for more partnerships between student athletes
- 1:01:02and businesses to be able to produce more NIL deals. So we're going to
- 1:01:06actively be advocating for resources and support systems, but we also want to help
- 1:01:10facilitate some collaborations between student athletes and businesses so we can see some amazing partnerships.
- 1:01:17Do we think that Mayor Parker is going to sign this into law at
- 1:01:20this point? We're very optimistic that. All right, very good, very
- 1:01:25good. Well, you know, when you've been gracious enough counselmen to join
- 1:01:30us here, I always like to ask if there's anything in the pipeline in
- 1:01:34terms of youth recreation within the City of Philadelphia or or you know, based
- 1:01:39on your initiatives that you may be potentially unveiling in the near future. We
- 1:01:45know you're so involved in youth athletics within the City of Philadelphia with various camps
- 1:01:50that you run, So if there's anything in the pipeline, feel free to
- 1:01:53let folks know. I mean, we're going to be going into budget negotiations
- 1:01:58after the mayor gives a budget to drive. Yes, we'll be discussing other
- 1:02:01projects we've had in the past, hopefully the city looking to support Philly Legendary
- 1:02:07Hoops Month and some of the Grande dollars we've given to organizations to disperse the
- 1:02:10out of school time based initiatives. There's an advocacy effort at Harrisburg right now
- 1:02:15to put more money into baseball to get more inner city kids playing baseball specifically,
- 1:02:21and of course, like I said earlier, we're definitely going to have
- 1:02:22an NIL convention which is going to be happening hopefully in the month of June,
- 1:02:28where we'll be able to you know, look at good opportunities for student
- 1:02:32athletes going into the summer and preparing for the school year of twenty twenty four
- 1:02:37to twenty twenty five. Awesome. And just because we have another couple of
- 1:02:40minutes here available to as counselman, I would imagine you're excited that Saquon Barkley
- 1:02:45is going to be coming to the Philadelphia Eagles this coming season and over the
- 1:02:50course of the next three years with the deal that he signed. I know
- 1:02:52you're a huge Eagles fan, buddy. Yeah, I'm excited about sa Quon.
- 1:02:55Hopefully we get it done with how sign Reddick and we're able to keep
- 1:03:00him because we also signed another quality defensive end just to even yeah, even
- 1:03:07stronger. So I'm excited for what's gonna happen next year as it relates to
- 1:03:13the Eagles, but also having lost hoping the Sixers, I'm hoping that and
- 1:03:15b comes back and puts us in a position where we can compete because the
- 1:03:21East is just so weak that normally under these circumstances you would tell a guy
- 1:03:24to wrap it up, but if he wraps it up, we thought we
- 1:03:27had an opportunity to chase the championship when right now, you know, outside
- 1:03:30of Boston, there's no clear you know, front runner, not just in
- 1:03:35the East, but really in the entire NBA. So I'm very optimistic about
- 1:03:37Sister Sixers Sports. As long as we're not talking about the new stadium.
- 1:03:42Yes, you know that's a little controversial, absolutely say that, because it's
- 1:03:46multiple new stadium proposals now, you know, So as long as we can
- 1:03:51keep it on the field or in the court, it's all good. Absolutely.
- 1:03:53We've been talking about the potential new arena here on this podcast platform.
- 1:03:58Not right now, that's perhaps for another time. But again, folks,
- 1:04:01council Member Isaiah Thomas counselman for of course the City of Philadelphia and he is
- 1:04:10an at large seat. Follow him on Twitter if you're not already. He's
- 1:04:13a great great follow about updating folks about what's going on in the city of
- 1:04:16Philadelphia at CM Thomas PHL counselman. It was great to talk to you.
- 1:04:21Thanks so much for the update on the NIL and congratulations with it and let's
- 1:04:27keep moving forward. My friend, he'll be I hope I can talk to
- 1:04:29you at some point down the road. Oh, thanks for having me again.
- 1:04:31I would love to talk some point down the road. I know I'm
- 1:04:33gonna have to come on and talk about the next phase of sports and how
- 1:04:38it's impacted the city, whether that six Ers Stadium or Comcast Stadium or whatever
- 1:04:43project it may be. So thank you, appreciate you so great talking to
- 1:04:46Councilman Isaiah Thomas. And yeah, we're gonna have to talk about the new
- 1:04:53arena proposal, you know in the Chinatown area. You know, we've been
- 1:04:57talking about that here on the PSD podcast show as of late we're certainly gonna
- 1:05:01talk to the councilman at some point about that. However, we are gonna
- 1:05:04take a quick break here to pay some bills, and when we get back,
- 1:05:08it's what we are throwing down on the table. We got a lot
- 1:05:11of Flyers talk coming your way, as there are a lot of challenges that
- 1:05:15have been facing this team. For sure, Let's take that break. We'll
- 1:05:17be right back. All right, we are back. We have to get
- 1:05:23into some Philadelphia Flyers talk right now because this team is facing some challenges and
- 1:05:29boy, John Tortorella early, he really showed those officials this past week,
- 1:05:33didn't he. Dear lord, we're gonna get into that and what's been happening
- 1:05:38with this team. It's what we're throwing down on the table and now on
- 1:05:42the table. You can find him on Twitter slash x at Sportsology. It
- 1:05:48is great to have him on the show. Be wanting to have him on
- 1:05:51for a while because I've been listening to him and his co host is co
- 1:05:56host we've had on the show a number of times. Again coming to us
- 1:06:00from the Locked On Flyers podcast and also off the Post radio as well.
- 1:06:05We've got mister Russ Cohen Russ, buddy, how you doing man, Thanks
- 1:06:09for joining us this week. Good Jeff, Thanks thanks for having me on.
- 1:06:13You got it, man, It's great to have you on to talk
- 1:06:15about this Flyers team, because, like it's just up and down at this
- 1:06:17point. There's a lot of excitement, there's a lot of just back and
- 1:06:21forth within Flyers Nation about where folks want this team to go, what they
- 1:06:26want them to do. But to get our discussion started here, Russ,
- 1:06:30I really I wanted to start off by talking about something that I don't think
- 1:06:32has happened ever ever to a Flyers coach in the history. I think of
- 1:06:38this franchise where not only does the coach get tossed from a game, get
- 1:06:43suspended from coaching for a couple of games, and also having to pay a
- 1:06:47fifty thousand dollars fine. So I don't know, maybe I'm biased here,
- 1:06:51but all of this seemed a little bit excessive in my opinion in terms of
- 1:06:57what the NHL did to John Tortorella. I don't know, Yeah, probably
- 1:07:00bias here. Maybe you have a different way of thinking about this. What
- 1:07:02were your thoughts on this entire situation that happened this past week. Yeah,
- 1:07:06I mean, I thought it was a bad call, and I thought,
- 1:07:10you know, John was trying to get his point across, and yeah,
- 1:07:13you know was a Wes McAuley. He didn't want to come over and talk
- 1:07:16about it. He should, but it's his prerogative, right and yep,
- 1:07:21and I think it got to a point where Towards probably shouldn't have let the
- 1:07:27frustration boil over because he wouldn't leave the bench, And it's like, you
- 1:07:30know, that's where you know, only you can only let so much time
- 1:07:33go by, but if you're showing an unwillingness to leave the bench, like
- 1:07:38he could have hit him with another ten minute if he wanted to. Besides
- 1:07:42what they did, so you know, I think it was a half and
- 1:07:46half. I think they were both partially wrong about it. I think it's
- 1:07:51a there there's no right or wrong answer. I don't think necessarily when it
- 1:07:57comes to this particular situation. But it was just so bizarre, and again
- 1:08:00I thought it was a bit over excessive. So all right, well,
- 1:08:03let's get into what we've been seeing from this team and especially from the front
- 1:08:09office as well, because as we all know, trade deadline was last Friday,
- 1:08:14and I really wanted to pick your brain here, Russ, and get
- 1:08:16your thoughts as it pertains to what the Flyers did at the trade deadline last
- 1:08:20week. One acquiring defenseman Eric Johnson from Buffalo for a fourth round pick this
- 1:08:26year. They traded Sean Walker to Colorado for a conditional first round pick in
- 1:08:29twenty twenty five. And they also traded away Wade Allison. So I think
- 1:08:34both of those, and they I should say that they received Dennis Greana,
- 1:08:41Thank you very much. I script names constantly here on this show. It
- 1:08:44sucks talking Flyers sometimes with the names. I mess up anyway, But look,
- 1:08:48I personally think both of those. I think Wade and Dennis they kind
- 1:08:53of needed a little bit of a change of scenery. That's how I particularly
- 1:08:56saw that trade. I know you and your co host Rachel Donner again at
- 1:09:00the Lockdown Flyers podcast, discussed the details of what the Flyers did this past
- 1:09:04week. After analyzing these moves, Russ, after they've kind of digested a
- 1:09:10little bit here within you know, within our fandom here, you know,
- 1:09:13what what what did you like and what did you dislike about these moves?
- 1:09:16Well, I mean they got good value for Walker. That was good value.
- 1:09:19So can't complain about that. I disliked getting gory aanoff because I understand
- 1:09:29that, and I think Keith Jones drives some of this that he wants these
- 1:09:32bigger, faster guys. That's great, but they also have to be able
- 1:09:36to finish. Yeah, and Corianov hasn't been able to finish since the bubble,
- 1:09:41and that's more than a few years. And I don't know if you
- 1:09:43saw the last game, but him on the power play, he got off
- 1:09:45one good shot, but he was given the puck away more than he was
- 1:09:49able to take shots. Yeah, game with the Sharks, correct, Yes,
- 1:09:54yes, So I just I don't think it was a good move.
- 1:09:57Now. I understand they were anxious to move Wade Allison because he didn't fit
- 1:10:00anymore. Fine, but I just felt like Goryana wasn't the right guy to
- 1:10:05get. He might have been the right guy to get two years ago,
- 1:10:10but now that he's gone past that, you know he's he's a risk to
- 1:10:14go to the KHL right after this year anyhow, like if it doesn't work
- 1:10:16out, and so like, Okay, I mean the fact that he is
- 1:10:20getting this look worries me because it does take away from what other guys could
- 1:10:27get you know, Gollilsel like he you know, he's had some really good
- 1:10:30games. When he's actually got nice time, he gets sent right back down
- 1:10:33to the miners. Now, I would rather have lick Sell in the lineup
- 1:10:38than Goriana. That's me now. But I understand that Atkinson and Delourier are
- 1:10:43getting sat because they're not playing well. Fine, and that wouldn't last forever.
- 1:10:46Although that cainson. You just don't know where he's at at this moment,
- 1:10:50like he's just hit a wall. But all that said, it was
- 1:10:57good what they got for Walker. You always want to get a first.
- 1:10:59That's fine. They I don't want to hear. And I do think it's
- 1:11:04a bit of rhetoric when we're not even three months away from this draft.
- 1:11:12Yes, and people tell me that next draft is better, Like I have
- 1:11:15a lot of prospects on my list for next draft, but I haven't had
- 1:11:18a chance to analyze it. I haven't looked at the number. Like I
- 1:11:21know, there's always this feeling, but I always feel like fans should just
- 1:11:26ignore that because that's something that teams like to push. And then it's like
- 1:11:30whoa, it just so happens to line up with the extra first round picks
- 1:11:33they have, right, So I leave that alone, don't. I don't
- 1:11:39count that at all. But you know, the Eric Johnson thing also is
- 1:11:44taking away time from some younger players. Now, he played okay against the
- 1:11:50Sharks, he didn't play great in this first game. It was like a
- 1:11:53mixed bag. You know, you have to sort of use him in a
- 1:11:57certain way. He's going to be a bottom pairing guy whatever. But we
- 1:12:00looked at some of the other young guys, now Ronnie Adder if because you
- 1:12:05know, at some point maybe it's not going to happen, but we would
- 1:12:09expect Drysdale how to come back, and he does. Adad's probably the guy
- 1:12:14out now, maybe he'd sit Stall over Adder, but I don't know about
- 1:12:16that. And I don't know why Adder can't get the next eighteen seventeen games
- 1:12:21in that Like, I just don't know why, because I feel like he
- 1:12:27should simply because yeah, you have a chance to make the playoffs. But
- 1:12:31he has a chance to gain that experience too, and he's not going to
- 1:12:34gain it from the bench. He's not going to gain it from Lehigh Valley,
- 1:12:38and so he should be a big part of your future. But they
- 1:12:42don't feel like the future is now for him because the coach said, so,
- 1:12:45John has a lot of say so more than most coaches. You know,
- 1:12:49that could be a little bit of a hindrance. So you know,
- 1:12:54I look at it that way. I think there's a little bit of that
- 1:12:57going on now. Adam Jinning, I don't think he's gotten a fair shot.
- 1:13:00I mean he I thought he played reasonably well in his first game.
- 1:13:04He had a nice hit. Yeah, maybe he looked a little slow to
- 1:13:09the puck, but I also think some guys takes a game or two to
- 1:13:13kind of get that speed going. Yeah, And I think I think it
- 1:13:15was just him thinking about it, not because you know he's actually slow,
- 1:13:19because if you watch him in Lehigh's really good defenseman. Now, sometimes guys
- 1:13:24can't translate, but I believe he can, and I believe you know,
- 1:13:28the other thing part of this whole complicated situation was he gave Seler what three
- 1:13:34years Yep, I think Addard within the next year would be Nick Steeler.
- 1:13:42But the coach likes him, right, So the coach made sure that he's
- 1:13:45got two years, no no move, and John's contract runs out in two
- 1:13:50years. Like I don't know, if that, I don't think that's a
- 1:13:54coincident. Yeah, I think that's Yeah, it's an interesting point said,
- 1:13:57that is a very very interesting point. I mean, I think when it
- 1:14:00comes to like what we're seeing at the defenseman position here with this Flyers team,
- 1:14:03I mean, with the injuries to Jamie Drysdale, Nick Sealer, Rasmus
- 1:14:06ristolane In, they're just depleted on the back end heading down this this stretch
- 1:14:14and part last part of the season here, you know, And just I
- 1:14:18wonder if it was a knee jerk reaction to I don't want to say knee
- 1:14:23jerk reaction but over maybe overthinking the Eric Johnson acquisition from Buffalo. But I
- 1:14:29guess that kind of gets into the next topic here, Russ, which is
- 1:14:31it like it seems like Danny Briere is still looking at, you know,
- 1:14:35culture building as this season has continued on here. I mean, he's made
- 1:14:40these moves that we were just discussing, but they weren't the most shrewd moves
- 1:14:45in the entire world. I think we can all agree with that. You
- 1:14:47know, they weren't quote high caliber type of moves. Do you see the
- 1:14:51front office kind of taking proactive steps in terms of culture building, where you
- 1:14:57would like to see this team moving in the future. Is that what you're
- 1:15:00seeing here as well? Well? Okay, so I think the culture's built.
- 1:15:03Whatever they did was good. You know again, culture building is nice
- 1:15:10to kind of get you up and running. Do we think that when John
- 1:15:14Tworturella left Columbus that that culture stayed No? True, right, So sometimes
- 1:15:21it's a temporary thing, right, But it's good to get everything going the
- 1:15:26right way, everybody pulling on the same rope, all those cliches. That's
- 1:15:29good. So I think that was a big positive. I don't think it
- 1:15:31needed to continue this year, Like I don't think you needed Eric Johnson as
- 1:15:35an example. So okay, they culture is built. I do think Danny
- 1:15:42Brierre is looking to the future, but I also think he's got these other
- 1:15:45voices in his ear saying what about what I want? What about what we
- 1:15:50this this team needs? What about the guys here? And here's how I
- 1:15:56always handle this And might seem cutthroatsh but I understand that John has great respect
- 1:16:05to the guys on the bench and guys like delaoureer whatever. But these aren't
- 1:16:10future flyers. If you're gonna be really good in three years. You're gonna
- 1:16:13forget about Nick de Laurier. You're gonna forget about a lot of these guys.
- 1:16:17Yes, Nick Steeler won't be a second pairing defense, but on a
- 1:16:21good team, he's not even close to that, right So you have to
- 1:16:26look at that and say that's the way you really should be operating. Now.
- 1:16:31I understand they could still use young players and make a push for the
- 1:16:36playoffs. I don't see why they can't do that, right there is there
- 1:16:40is an obvious way to do that, and I think they have good enough
- 1:16:44young players that it's okay. Like again, Zamula's kind of been like shoehorned
- 1:16:48in there because he can't send him down or someone's gonna claim them. He's
- 1:16:53had a pretty good year, but a lot of times he's been that extra
- 1:16:56extra guy. For the eleven seven, we're gonna get mostly Cower play.
- 1:17:00We're not going to use him a lot five and five except the Sharks game
- 1:17:01because right exactly, I don't know if Zamula is a future piece for them.
- 1:17:09I don't know. I don't feel like they have. The coach has
- 1:17:12a lot of affinity for him, right So, based on that based on
- 1:17:16not saying much about Addert even though you know he just said he when he
- 1:17:20say something like, oh he was he was good. Yeah, that's great.
- 1:17:24Like this is there's a young guy that's been waiting all year right to
- 1:17:28get a shot. He can use a little bit more than that. Exactly,
- 1:17:31exactly. Well that it's a great segue, Russ into the final question
- 1:17:36and topic I was really going to ask you because there are certain players on
- 1:17:40this team I'm seeing here that I just want to see more of during the
- 1:17:43season. You mentioned Ronnie Adder, you mentioned Zamola as well. You know,
- 1:17:46they haven't gotten the ice time that I would like to see as a
- 1:17:50Flyers fan here, and you know, I want to see what they have
- 1:17:54as it proteins to again the future of this team as we're moving down this
- 1:17:59pathway this rebuild. So, I mean, aside maybe from Addard and Samola
- 1:18:02who you were just talking about, are there certain players you want to see
- 1:18:05more of as this team and organization are still in this rebuild mode here.
- 1:18:10Yeah, I don't know if there. I mean lix Sel would be the
- 1:18:13other one. Yeah, because he's very very close and I think he can
- 1:18:15play an eh O minutes but he's just not going to get the chance.
- 1:18:19So Lixel is really that other one. And Jinny Yeah, I mean again,
- 1:18:24I think he really should be getting the chance here instead of like Mark
- 1:18:28Stall. If you wanted to swap off Stall and Johnson every other game,
- 1:18:32neither of them is going to complain. But then that would get Jenning in
- 1:18:35the lineup more. And I would like to see that because I think they
- 1:18:39would find out, especially with Nick Sealer not not there, that he can
- 1:18:42be a supreme shop walker. He is, but they're not putting them in
- 1:18:45that kind of role, right, So that's part of this whole equation that's
- 1:18:50a little bit frustrating because there's a gap. There's going to be a gap
- 1:18:56between who's left from the Flyers blue line now and who's going to be there
- 1:19:01when Oliver Bank gets there. Right, Well, you just interviewed, by
- 1:19:04the way, if you go to sportsolga dot com, I got an exclusive
- 1:19:06with him, or listen to the Lockdown show, we have the audio from
- 1:19:10that great kid. But there's a gap there. These other defensemen that we're
- 1:19:15talking about all should be filling the gap. Now. I don't mind filling
- 1:19:20it with some veterans. So you could teach the young guys. That's fine,
- 1:19:24but this is right now where the strength of your organization is because honestly,
- 1:19:28on forward, if I don't mention Licel Forrester is the only one that
- 1:19:31has developed. Frost is beyond being a prospect. I think he's doing great.
- 1:19:38I don't think the coach feels the same way. Even though he's their
- 1:19:40best player, power play guy. There's this weird dynamic that makes you think
- 1:19:44that Frost's time there might still be limited, even though he's really starting to
- 1:19:48have a nice season again after all the muck that was going on earlier,
- 1:19:54Noah Cates has regressed. Other than playing defense. There's no offense there.
- 1:19:58Yeah, there a there's zero offense there. So that's a little bit of
- 1:20:02a worry that doesn't really get talked about. And you know, the rest
- 1:20:05really are in prospects. I mean, Tippitt has twenty three goals. That's
- 1:20:10great. Tipp Of at times is lost in the defensive zone, but that
- 1:20:15doesn't really get focused on too much because he's one of the top goal guys.
- 1:20:18But again he misses the net and awful lot too. If he refined
- 1:20:23his game a little more, he could be a thirty thirty five goal scorer.
- 1:20:25But if he doesn't, he's going to be this twenty seven to twenty
- 1:20:29eight goal scorer that still is tantalizing because of the speed and size, but
- 1:20:34hasn't fully put the game together. He's the other one that he's already out
- 1:20:39of the prospect range. And now what you see is close to what you
- 1:20:44get. I think there's a little bit of a refinement that can go on
- 1:20:46there, but it hasn't in the two years that he's been there. So
- 1:20:50you know, again, you would like to see him get more than fifty
- 1:20:54points, right, but I don't know if that's going to happen. Right.
- 1:20:57It's really interesting and we're going to keep following what the Philadelphia Flyers are
- 1:21:00doing here at the PSD podcast show. And again, folks, Russ Cohen
