Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to the Armchair GM Sports Network.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Welcome to another live edition of the Ohl and sixty
- 1:03Speaker 2: podcast with Colin Ward. I'm resed to Maane before we
- 1:07Speaker 2: get started. I'm on camera, look at us go man.
- 1:11Speaker 2: We're off to a nice start here. The last two
- 1:13Speaker 2: live shows, that's been kind of rough on my end
- 1:17Speaker 2: in terms of videos. So glad to have you along
- 1:20Speaker 2: with us b C of course, but behind the clouds,
- 1:23Speaker 2: I'm reased Tomani along with Colin Ward our OHL Finals
- 1:28Speaker 2: recap slash look ahead to the Memorial Cup. I wouldn't
- 1:31Speaker 2: necessarily call this our season finale. I think we're gonna
- 1:34Speaker 2: do another show where we kind of recap the year
- 1:37Speaker 2: that was and and look back at some of the
- 1:39Speaker 2: good times, maybe some of the bad times. There were
- 1:41Speaker 2: a few moments of those during the season, but all
- 1:44Speaker 2: in all, got a ton of headlines to get to
- 1:47Speaker 2: and then yeah, we're gonna look back at the Kitchen
- 1:49Speaker 2: Rangers sweeping away with the Barry Colts and looking ahead
- 1:52Speaker 2: to the Memorial Cup out in Colona that gets underway
- 1:55Speaker 2: on Friday with the host Colona Rockets taking on the
- 2:00Speaker 2: OHL champion Kitchener Rangers. So headlines to get to Dave
- 2:05Speaker 2: Cameron has an extension. Colin Ward is about to give
- 2:08Speaker 2: a lesson on social media regarding that the Barry Colts
- 2:14Speaker 2: sold going to be sold soon. Potentially we'll see Twitter
- 2:20Speaker 2: was on it or x was on it, so we'll
- 2:22Speaker 2: chat about that. Matthew Schaffer takes on the Calder Trophy
- 2:25Speaker 2: as the best rookie in the National Hockey League. Some
- 2:28Speaker 2: scholar awards we're handed out as well to some OHL players.
- 2:32Speaker 2: A little removed from the World Junior Summer Showcase announcement
- 2:37Speaker 2: that's going to take place in Windsor ahead of the
- 2:41Speaker 2: two thousand and twenty six twenty twenty seven OHL season.
- 2:45Speaker 2: It's going to be awesome at the WFC Center. Manny
- 2:49Speaker 2: Peva giving us the announcement the other day that Canada, USA, Finland,
- 2:54Speaker 2: Sweden going to be a part of that mini tournament.
- 2:58Speaker 2: You could say at the WFCU Center, are all excited
- 3:00Speaker 2: about that? That one is is gonna be really awesome
- 3:04Speaker 2: Windsor Pizza. What's that they get?
- 3:07Speaker 1: They gets to have some winsor pizza. Maybe that went
- 3:09Speaker 1: into them too.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Hey, I mean Swedes and Fins need to uh need
- 3:15Speaker 2: to experience that.
- 3:18Speaker 1: They're not gonna know what hit them.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Oh, they're gonna be talking about it all the way
- 3:23Speaker 2: back to Helsinki and Stockholm, even though half of the
- 3:27Speaker 2: players probably aren't from those two cities. Those are just
- 3:29Speaker 2: two you know, capital cities. Obviously, after that, a lot
- 3:34Speaker 2: of stuff's going on. And Owen Sound they've got new owners.
- 3:39Speaker 2: They have made a coaching change, although not officially naming
- 3:44Speaker 2: their new bench boss, but Jeff Merrick is all over it.
- 3:46Speaker 2: So we'll chat about that, and then new GM in
- 3:53Speaker 2: Owen Sound. Rumors swirling around that Dale de Gray is
- 3:58Speaker 2: off to Niagara instead of sticking around the Bay Shore.
- 4:02Speaker 2: So we've had that discussion at lengths in in previous episodes,
- 4:08Speaker 2: so we're gonna we're gonna chat about that. And then
- 4:11Speaker 2: of course the Kitchen Rangers are OHL champions. They sweep
- 4:13Speaker 2: away the Barry Colts in four games. Sam O'Reilly taking
- 4:18Speaker 2: home playoff MVP, also double dipping because he took home
- 4:23Speaker 2: regular season MVP, which we chatted about on the previous episode.
- 4:27Speaker 2: And then we're not gonna pretend like we're experts on
- 4:30Speaker 2: the w h L and on the q M j hl.
- 4:34Speaker 1: B.
- 4:36Speaker 2: We just haven't followed the Everett Silver Tips very very much.
- 4:39Speaker 2: We haven't followed the Colonna Rockets very much. We haven't
- 4:43Speaker 2: followed the Q Champs that I'm gonna botch their name
- 4:46Speaker 2: every single time SCU to me, Uh, we're not experts
- 4:50Speaker 2: on any of those teams. I like to think we
- 4:53Speaker 2: know quite a bit about the Kitchen Rangers and what
- 4:55Speaker 2: they're gonna bring to the Memorial Cup. But we're not
- 4:58Speaker 2: gonna try and you know, pretend we're w h L
- 5:01Speaker 2: or q m j HL insiders. That's just not what
- 5:04Speaker 2: we are. So we're gonna we're gonna provide a lot
- 5:07Speaker 2: of input on the Kitchen Rangers and what we feel
- 5:10Speaker 2: like they will bring to the table to uh to
- 5:13Speaker 2: the Memorial Cup this year and hopefully keep it in
- 5:15Speaker 2: the Ontario Hockey League. It would be uh, you know,
- 5:18Speaker 2: following in the footsteps of the Saga how spirit in
- 5:20Speaker 2: the London Nights. So colin Ward having some audio troubles.
- 5:25Speaker 2: Hopefully he can hear me again. He's kind of in
- 5:27Speaker 2: a Tornado territory right now, and in Woodstock. He was
- 5:31Speaker 2: underground for probably twenty minutes or so, and then we
- 5:35Speaker 2: got the text message saying he was coming back up
- 5:37Speaker 2: top to the surface and and back to the apartment,
- 5:40Speaker 2: So hopefully we've got Wardy uh coming up here. Hopefully
- 5:46Speaker 2: I did see him now, his screens black.
- 5:49Speaker 1: I think his mike was connected. I think he' got
- 5:51Speaker 1: a way for his mic. But where we get started.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I know it's not Ohl related, but Monkton's owner passed
- 5:58Speaker 1: away as well. Tough, tough for them obviously losing in
- 6:01Speaker 1: the Q final and then their owner obviously passing away.
- 6:05Speaker 1: So condolences to the Monk and Wildcats community of for sure.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, that's that's uh, that's well said Brandon.
- 6:13Speaker 2: We we love the Canadian Hockey League obviously Ohl specifically,
- 6:17Speaker 2: but yeah, that's tough, especially, you know, an unfortunate end
- 6:23Speaker 2: to the Monked and Wildcats season. But you know they
- 6:26Speaker 2: did hit take home a championship recently, so which also,
- 6:30Speaker 2: by the way, has sort of sparked the conversation for
- 6:33Speaker 2: Gardner McDougall and and whether or not he should be
- 6:35Speaker 2: getting an opportunity at the professional level. Obviously we know
- 6:39Speaker 2: how well he coached at the at the college level
- 6:41Speaker 2: here and in the U sports. It's still a stupid name,
- 6:47Speaker 2: but you know, and obviously having immediate immediate success in
- 6:51Speaker 2: Moncton's so that that's interesting that conversation has been started.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Some people are swirling around him being the Leafs head coach.
- 6:59Speaker 2: I think that's kind of a hype dream, to be
- 7:00Speaker 2: honest with you, who would want to coach there right now?
- 7:03Speaker 2: Just my personal opinion, But yeah, I think we get
- 7:07Speaker 2: started b CAP or BC geez just reverted about it.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I think if McDougal wanted a job, he could probably
- 7:12Speaker 1: have whatever one he wanted. But I think he likes
- 7:14Speaker 1: it O East.
- 7:15Speaker 2: I don't blame him. I've only been there once and
- 7:18Speaker 2: it was to Halifax and I'm a big fan of
- 7:21Speaker 2: their Boardwalk Beer Garden big man.
- 7:25Speaker 1: And he got the coach with Dale Hunter for a team.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Uh yeah, Canadas World Junior team too, so great point?
- 7:30Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely so without without further ado, let's let's get
- 7:34Speaker 2: into it.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Uh.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Dave Cameron has signed an extension, a multi year extension
- 7:40Speaker 2: to remain the head coach of the Ottawa sixty sevens.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I'm really hoping Colin Ward can jump in here and
- 7:46Speaker 2: uh and give us a lesson on some some social
- 7:49Speaker 2: media and you know, some sixty seven's history. I should
- 7:54Speaker 2: add as well, calling his back on screen. Can you
- 7:56Speaker 2: hear me?
- 7:56Speaker 4: Wardy, Nope, Woodstock, It's all good.
- 8:07Speaker 2: It's all good. Well, we'll keep going. I know, this
- 8:11Speaker 2: is kind of how I felt there, Like when my
- 8:13Speaker 2: screen kept cutting out, it was rough' That's how I felt.
- 8:17Speaker 2: You're kind of helpless because technology sucks. Even though it's
- 8:20Speaker 2: twenty twenty six. You think we'd have this stuff figured out.
- 8:23Speaker 2: But I'm gonna you know, it is what it is.
- 8:27Speaker 2: But Dave Cameron, Yeah, he signs his extension through the
- 8:30Speaker 2: twenty seven to twenty eight season with the sixty sevens
- 8:34Speaker 2: sixty seven general manager quote tweeted or quoted in the
- 8:39Speaker 2: article on the Ottawa sixty seven's website, Dave is an
- 8:43Speaker 2: exceptional coach. His mentality, passion, and commitment to the sixty
- 8:46Speaker 2: sevens give our group the platform to grow and develop
- 8:49Speaker 2: on and off the ice. If you want to read
- 8:52Speaker 2: that full article again, it's on the ottaw at sixty
- 8:54Speaker 2: seven's website. No, he's been a part of the team
- 8:58Speaker 2: since twenty twenty one two twenty two. You know, the
- 9:03Speaker 2: Ottawa sixty sevens a franchise record fifty one wins in
- 9:07Speaker 2: the twenty twenty two twenty twenty three season, winning OHL
- 9:11Speaker 2: Coach of the Year CHL Coach of the Year and
- 9:14Speaker 2: part of the OHL first All Star team as the
- 9:17Speaker 2: bench boss. And we know how how well the sixty
- 9:20Speaker 2: sevens did this year. Myself included had them outside the
- 9:24Speaker 2: postseason this year, but obviously we saw what they did.
- 9:29Speaker 2: They were competing for a division title right along with
- 9:31Speaker 2: the Bulldogs up until probably the last month of the season.
- 9:35Speaker 2: But but you still get over the one hundred point mark.
- 9:37Speaker 2: You get into the second round against a tough Colts
- 9:40Speaker 2: team and you know, if if a if a puck
- 9:42Speaker 2: ends up in the empty four by six, who the
- 9:44Speaker 2: heck knows what happens with the Ottawa sixty Sevens in
- 9:47Speaker 2: that second round series against the Barry Colts. So, you know,
- 9:51Speaker 2: congratulations to him. You know he earned this. He is
- 9:55Speaker 2: the you know, he was in that conversation all season
- 9:59Speaker 2: long for for Coach of the Year. I know we
- 10:01Speaker 2: haven't commented too much on it and we're going to
- 10:03Speaker 2: keep it that way, but yeah, congratulations to him on
- 10:07Speaker 2: getting that extension. And he's near the top in sixty
- 10:12Speaker 2: seven's history. Brian Kilray legendary name, but Dave Cameron trying
- 10:17Speaker 2: to bring himself back up, not back up up to
- 10:21Speaker 2: that level with Brian Kilray, so congratulations to him and.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Even what Andre Tournier was able to do with the
- 10:27Speaker 1: Ottawa Yeah.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Great point. Yeah, you think of that run in the
- 10:31Speaker 2: late twenty tens in the in the eighteen nineteen season,
- 10:35Speaker 2: I know a lot of people were looking at, say,
- 10:37Speaker 2: the Niagara Ice Dogs in the Eastern Conference. Oshauwa had
- 10:41Speaker 2: a solid team despite kind of selling. I think I
- 10:47Speaker 2: think they sold, but then they bought because they sent
- 10:51Speaker 2: Stadnika and Brossard to Niagara. They ended up getting mattin
- 10:56Speaker 2: in and I'm drawing a blank Brandon Stagent from the
- 11:00Speaker 2: Hamilton Bulldogs and we'll beat the Ice Dogs in round
- 11:03Speaker 2: number two. So uh yeah, Tournier definitely wanted to to
- 11:07Speaker 2: remember Dpietro obviously a big, big addition at the deadline
- 11:11Speaker 2: there for the sixty seven. So yeah, there's there's, there's
- 11:15Speaker 2: names for for the Ottawa sixty sevens. It's a pretty
- 11:18Speaker 2: pretty healthy list in the nation's capital. So uh to
- 11:25Speaker 2: the Barry Colts and not about them losing in the
- 11:28Speaker 2: Ohl Championship Series. Jeff Merrick tweeting out on May ninth,
- 11:33Speaker 2: kind of funny how he put it. Okay, Comma, there's
- 11:36Speaker 2: a lot to talk about a Barry Colts sale. Here's
- 11:40Speaker 2: what I know. There's a deal in principle to sell
- 11:44Speaker 2: the Colts to a group led by John Carreri, who
- 11:49Speaker 2: owns the Toronto Patriots of the OJHL as well as
- 11:52Speaker 2: Everest Academy. Well, a dude that owns teams or has
- 11:57Speaker 2: owned team owned teams in the past does make a
- 11:59Speaker 2: lot of sense. And I'll actually give a shout out
- 12:01Speaker 2: to correspond to Gene Pereira uh bringing up the topic
- 12:04Speaker 2: on social media on Monday about you know you can
- 12:07Speaker 2: renovate renovate the sad Lone Arena. Of course, don't don't
- 12:10Speaker 2: get me wrong. I love the restaurant in there press boxes, Eh,
- 12:15Speaker 2: but uh, it is what it is. It's a it's
- 12:19Speaker 2: a loud barn. But uh, he brought up the idea,
- 12:22Speaker 2: would it be better to build a new one. Now,
- 12:25Speaker 2: in terms of location, pretty easy to like that location,
- 12:31Speaker 2: especially considering where the Berry Baycats Stadium is. It's you know,
- 12:34Speaker 2: in terms of well now professional sports for for the
- 12:37Speaker 2: Barry Baycats and the CBL, it is past Barry, whereas
- 12:41Speaker 2: sad Lone Arena. As soon as you head up to
- 12:44Speaker 2: four hundred, you see that Barry sign. Well, there it is.
- 12:46Speaker 2: It's right off the highway. There are a few restaurants
- 12:49Speaker 2: around there, of course, including the one in the building.
- 12:52Speaker 2: But but this is really interesting to hear Jeff Merrick
- 12:55Speaker 2: tweeting this out. And you know, as the news about
- 12:57Speaker 2: the own sound attack sale was swirling around and this
- 13:00Speaker 2: is why the Barry Colts were still in the playoffs
- 13:03Speaker 2: and and competing for an OHL championship against the Kitchener Rangers,
- 13:06Speaker 2: that this news comes out. So uh, I don't want
- 13:10Speaker 2: to say I'm surprised, because I don't think that's something
- 13:13Speaker 2: that you really surprised about. I think it's just it's
- 13:18Speaker 2: what the OHL is, you know, starting to turn into
- 13:23Speaker 2: and and we're gonna get into into Owen Sound in
- 13:25Speaker 2: just a second here or a few minutes here. But
- 13:28Speaker 2: you're you're starting to see sort of the you know,
- 13:31Speaker 2: passing the torch to the next generation of whether it
- 13:33Speaker 2: be OHL owners, governor's presidents, general managers, you know, a
- 13:39Speaker 2: new wave of head coaches are coming through as well.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Throughout the league. It just changes from top to bottom. Obviously,
- 13:46Speaker 2: the new landscape with the n C Double A has
- 13:48Speaker 2: changed a lot, and maybe that's where some parties are
- 13:52Speaker 2: seeing the potential in Hey, you know I've been in
- 13:55Speaker 2: it for a while. I'm I'm not sure I agree
- 13:58Speaker 2: with what the future could be. So oh, I'm gonna
- 14:00Speaker 2: I'm gonna be interested in looking to potentially sell and
- 14:04Speaker 2: whether that was the case with Barry or own sound,
- 14:06Speaker 2: I have no idea. Again, I'm not an insider. I'm
- 14:09Speaker 2: not gonna pretend i am. But this is this is
- 14:12Speaker 2: big news at least in the Eastern Conference. Having the
- 14:14Speaker 2: sale confirmed for the Owen sound attack and now the
- 14:17Speaker 2: rumors about the Barry Colts.
- 14:19Speaker 1: Hey, no, no better time to sell than I guess
- 14:20Speaker 1: when you've just become Eastern Conference champions. I mean that
- 14:23Speaker 1: helps you can say that their value has never been higher.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, you did, and you know not to you
- 14:31Speaker 2: can say you took you can take credit for that.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Of course they put in their own work, obviously, but
- 14:36Speaker 2: Colbo Dwen a hell of a story. Kayshawn Ahison, He's
- 14:41Speaker 2: going to be close to us, Brandon about half hour
- 14:43Speaker 2: forty five minutes away at at TD Coliseum. Potentially obviously
- 14:48Speaker 2: very good opportunity to make the New York Islanders next year,
- 14:51Speaker 2: but if not, it would be a trip to Hamilton
- 14:54Speaker 2: and at TD Coliseum, which we're still waiting for the
- 14:57Speaker 2: name for for for the Hamilton Ahl team. But just
- 15:00Speaker 2: some more ownership news, this time for the Barry Colts.
- 15:04Speaker 2: And again we're gonna get to uh the the own
- 15:06Speaker 2: sound attack change. And in just a moment, Ben Reese
- 15:10Speaker 2: de mani flying solo here colin Ward with some audio issues.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Uh.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Again he's in sort of tornado alley, uh in Woodstock
- 15:18Speaker 2: right now.
- 15:19Speaker 1: So maybe not the greatest internet connection at the moment.
- 15:22Speaker 2: No, no, no, it's a it's it's a little tough,
- 15:25Speaker 2: but we're all right, we'll we'll, we'll keep going. Matthew
- 15:29Speaker 2: Schaeffer and and it was sort of it was it
- 15:31Speaker 2: was really cool the way that that it was announced.
- 15:36Speaker 2: And do I watch morning talk shows? No, I don't
- 15:44Speaker 2: really have a ton of interest in watching all that stuff.
- 15:48Speaker 2: But I think when you look at Matthew Schaeffer and
- 15:50Speaker 2: kind of what you know he is, uh, he's accomplished
- 15:55Speaker 2: in his short NHL career, you know. We it's bucks
- 16:00Speaker 2: that we only got what maybe less than a year
- 16:05Speaker 2: of playing time, maybe about a year of playing time
- 16:08Speaker 2: with Matthew Schaeffer being a member of the Erie Otters,
- 16:11Speaker 2: which really sucked. But also to see him thrive in
- 16:15Speaker 2: the NHL despite all the injury trouble that he had
- 16:18Speaker 2: in the Ontario Hockey League, I think is something to
- 16:21Speaker 2: celebrate on its own. So, you know, he played eighty
- 16:25Speaker 2: two games, scored twenty three goals, thirty six assists for
- 16:28Speaker 2: fifty nine points. This is as unanimous as it gets BC.
- 16:33Speaker 2: And and for Schaeffer. You know again, I know his brother, well,
- 16:37Speaker 2: Johnny from his days in Niagara, you know, covering the
- 16:40Speaker 2: ice dugs for yourself, I'm sure you've heard a ton
- 16:42Speaker 2: of stories about Johnny Schaffer and and the Shaeffer family,
- 16:46Speaker 2: and Matthew just was on another level this season for
- 16:51Speaker 2: the New York Islanders. It was impressive. It was very
- 16:53Speaker 2: impressive for you know, a non playoff team, albeit close.
- 16:58Speaker 2: A plus thirteen was just a impressive as well.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, what else can you say about this guy?
- 17:03Speaker 1: He was an incredible He could have been in the
- 17:05Speaker 1: OHL for two more seasons when you really look at it. First, overall,
- 17:09Speaker 1: pick all the things he's done off the ice as well,
- 17:11Speaker 1: for the hospitals in the Long Island area. Just an
- 17:14Speaker 1: incredible human being on and off the ice and the
- 17:17Speaker 1: Islanders are lucky to have a guy like that as
- 17:20Speaker 1: the face of their franchise already at only eighteen years old.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm curious how quickly, and not that they're here
- 17:26Speaker 2: to push out captains by any means, but to send
- 17:31Speaker 2: to see his way and just make it official because
- 17:33Speaker 2: it's probably gonna happen eventually, it's just a matter of time.
- 17:36Speaker 2: So congratulations to him. That's one heck of an accomplishment.
- 17:41Speaker 2: It's just going to continue to get better and better.
- 17:43Speaker 2: So if you're on the island, enjoy it. You've got
- 17:45Speaker 2: a nice brand new barn and a nice brand new
- 17:49Speaker 2: number one defenseman of the future. So Matthew Schaeffer taking
- 17:52Speaker 2: home the Calder Trophy. This season in the National Hockey League,
- 17:59Speaker 2: a few more awards were handed out as well, in
- 18:02Speaker 2: this time in the scholastic department, the Ivan Tenant Memorial Award,
- 18:11Speaker 2: Mark Pape taking home the trophy the Ivon Tenant Memorial Award,
- 18:17Speaker 2: presented annually to the league's top academic high school student
- 18:21Speaker 2: in his Grade ten studies. These are numbers that are
- 18:24Speaker 2: way out of my atmosphere.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Grasp come, Marichey, weren't a scholar in high school?
- 18:32Speaker 3: Hey?
- 18:32Speaker 2: Hey, grade twelve. I don't know how I did it,
- 18:35Speaker 2: but I was an Ontario scholar and everyone who graduation
- 18:38Speaker 2: heard it, So I don't know how I did it.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Maybe it's because of some of the bird classes I
- 18:44Speaker 2: took peer tutoring, which was I'm not sure why that's
- 18:49Speaker 2: a class, but I don't care because I'm pretty sure
- 18:51Speaker 2: I got high nineties in it. But for this young man,
- 18:54Speaker 2: ninety eight point eight percent average, including one hundred percent
- 18:59Speaker 2: in pre calculus slash trigonometry, US History, I wish I
- 19:04Speaker 2: learned US history, fitness and UH and sport management. I mean,
- 19:11Speaker 2: I mean, I know a lot of people can't say
- 19:13Speaker 2: they've had a high nineties average, But when you look
- 19:16Speaker 2: at pre calculus, trigonometry, US history, like fitness, sports man,
- 19:21Speaker 2: like what.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Can you even spell that?
- 19:27Speaker 2: I can't count that high?
- 19:30Speaker 1: Like you count the nine for baseball, that's all you need?
- 19:33Speaker 1: What's that you can count the nine for baseball nine?
- 19:39Speaker 2: That's debatable, but I mean that that's impressive. So congratulations
- 19:44Speaker 2: to him. You obviously we're cheering for a long national
- 19:49Speaker 2: and professional UH career, but I think he's gonna do
- 19:52Speaker 2: all right if he goes to school route and and
- 19:54Speaker 2: goes for a degree, so congratulations to him. And then
- 19:59Speaker 2: bradguard takes home the Roger Nielsen Memorial Award. Of course
- 20:05Speaker 2: that is a post secondary achievement, so you know that's
- 20:11Speaker 2: again it did end at the end of April. Obviously,
- 20:15Speaker 2: that's sort of when the national University studies usually tend
- 20:19Speaker 2: to end. But Brad Gardner doing this while going on
- 20:23Speaker 2: a long, deep playoff run and sustaining the grades, so
- 20:28Speaker 2: congratulations to to him. And uh yeah, I totally just
- 20:34Speaker 2: lost my train of thought, Brandon.
- 20:36Speaker 1: But Brad Gardner, I mean, you know, what a what
- 20:38Speaker 1: a final season he had. Not another guy that came
- 20:40Speaker 1: from the Ottawa program, Dave Cameron, and was obviously a
- 20:44Speaker 1: Dallas draft pick but not signed, so hopefully he'll be
- 20:48Speaker 1: able to earn something going forward. But you know, just
- 20:52Speaker 1: one of the last of those five year I feel
- 20:54Speaker 1: like elite players in the Ontario Hockey League with the
- 20:57Speaker 1: new landscape, so yeah, the last of his kind.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Well, and and I we've had this conversation numerous times
- 21:05Speaker 2: where you know, yes, n C double A, n I
- 21:09Speaker 2: L it's all fine, and Jim Dandy and you know,
- 21:15Speaker 2: we all I think it's it's great hockey wise, But again,
- 21:20Speaker 2: a lot of it has to do with do you
- 21:23Speaker 2: have the grades? And I think that's still one thing.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Maybe not so much in football or basketball, but but
- 21:30Speaker 2: student athletes still means a whole hell of a lot
- 21:32Speaker 2: in the States, I feel like, and you know, for
- 21:38Speaker 2: for these students, you can see all the commitments you want,
- 21:43Speaker 2: you know, but at the end of the day, if
- 21:45Speaker 2: you don't have the grades, well you're not going there
- 21:47Speaker 2: to play hockey. So I think that's something to look
- 21:50Speaker 2: at as well as sure they might be extremely talented individuals,
- 21:55Speaker 2: but without the grades, good luck, you might have to
- 21:58Speaker 2: stay close to home unfortunately. So that's still a big
- 22:01Speaker 2: part of it. And that's why I think it's still
- 22:03Speaker 2: awesome that the OHL is investing so much in off
- 22:07Speaker 2: the ice and studies and everything like that, so you know,
- 22:12Speaker 2: knowing firsthand that some of the scholarship funds do translate
- 22:16Speaker 2: over to the States. Albeit if you're Canadian you're paying
- 22:19Speaker 2: international rates, but still it does help contribute. So that's
- 22:23Speaker 2: pretty awesome. Okay, final headline to get to the Windsor
- 22:28Speaker 2: spitfires to host or I should say the city of Windsor.
- 22:31Speaker 2: Along with the Windsor Spitfires at the WFCU Center will
- 22:35Speaker 2: host the twenty twenty six World Junior's Summer Showcase. And
- 22:39Speaker 2: obviously the WAFTCU Center has hosted a number of big
- 22:44Speaker 2: events international events. They still have their massive hockey tournament
- 22:49Speaker 2: in the middle of winter that takes place there, but
- 22:52Speaker 2: his Summer Showcase will take place July twenty sixth through
- 22:56Speaker 2: August first. This summer includes ten games. World Junior hopefuls
- 23:01Speaker 2: from Canada, Finland, Sweden, and the United States will participate,
- 23:06Speaker 2: so it's it's a non tournament format used by each
- 23:11Speaker 2: federation as the first evaluation period ahead of the double
- 23:15Speaker 2: IHF World Junior Hockey Championships. Obviously includes players from the
- 23:20Speaker 2: Canadian Hockey League potentially guys in the National Hockey League.
- 23:25Speaker 2: You know, all the scouts are going to have full,
- 23:28Speaker 2: full availability to this, so I'm I'm pumped for this.
- 23:32Speaker 2: I think this is going to be awesome. Tickets are
- 23:34Speaker 2: on sale already to go see this event. You can
- 23:39Speaker 2: obviously get a ten game full event package starting in
- 23:41Speaker 2: one hundred and sixty four bucks or three team Canada
- 23:44Speaker 2: games at one hundred and twenty nine. I mean, I'm
- 23:48Speaker 2: no financial expert by any means, but I feel like
- 23:53Speaker 2: to get seven more games for less than sixty bucks,
- 24:00Speaker 2: I think that might be worth it.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I think so.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Yeah, And individual tickets go on sale June eighth at
- 24:06Speaker 2: at eleven am with prices starting at eighteen dollars. So
- 24:12Speaker 2: that's kind of the rundown. It was a great press conference,
- 24:15Speaker 2: Manny Peva hosting that a lot of people were curious
- 24:18Speaker 2: what was going on. We saw the news about Ethan
- 24:20Speaker 2: Belchets and Michigan State University and we were wondering if
- 24:24Speaker 2: it had something to do with that, but obviously it
- 24:27Speaker 2: was about the World Junior Summer Showcase. So I'm pumped forward.
- 24:31Speaker 2: I think that'll be a that'll be a lot of fun. Again,
- 24:34Speaker 2: this is just step one really to making Team Canada
- 24:37Speaker 2: for the World Junior, something that most Canadian kids dream
- 24:41Speaker 2: of playing in that tournament. So that's gonna be awesome.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Okay to some more of the bigger news, and of
- 24:51Speaker 2: course we're still still having some audio issues with with
- 24:54Speaker 2: colin Ward. We're still chugging along though, however, here on
- 24:58Speaker 2: the HL and sixty podcast my self Free Stumanian NBC
- 25:03Speaker 2: live on YouTube on the Armchair GM Sports Network. Following
- 25:08Speaker 2: the Ontario Hockey League Championship series and ahead of the
- 25:11Speaker 2: twenty twenty six Memorial Cup in Kelowna.
- 25:15Speaker 1: Hang on, Oh, you might have him joining right now? Oh,
- 25:18Speaker 1: all right, this time he has he has a microphone.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Think I think I started it too early. That's embarrassing,
- 25:26Speaker 2: pretty bad.
- 25:29Speaker 1: It looks like he's loading in but I can't see
- 25:32Speaker 1: him at the moment yet.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Oh that's all right, no worries. Uh kick things off anyways. Yeah,
- 25:39Speaker 2: the OHL Board of Governors has approved the transfer of
- 25:43Speaker 2: ownership of the Owen Sound Attack Hockey Club. And this
- 25:46Speaker 2: is sort of a big deal because they're also hosting
- 25:49Speaker 2: a top prospects game this year, uh in the OHL,
- 25:51Speaker 2: which is which is going to be exciting for a
- 25:54Speaker 2: new ownership.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Hey Ward, are you the.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Props to you guys? I was completely normal all of
- 25:59Speaker 3: a us sudden we went live and I don't know
- 26:02Speaker 3: what happened. Like I was chatting before we went on air.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, and again that's how I felt when my
- 26:08Speaker 2: screen didn't work those first few times. I'm like, oh, crapo, crapo, crapo,
- 26:12Speaker 2: crap But yeah, like what oh man, we're glad to
- 26:15Speaker 2: have you. We're glad to have you here.
- 26:17Speaker 3: I took a holiday for twenty seven minutes. Come back
- 26:20Speaker 3: and I see, uh, I see things are good, So
- 26:21Speaker 3: I'm good. No, wow, I no, thanks for covering me. Boys.
- 26:27Speaker 3: That was tech. I don't know what happened there. Like
- 26:30Speaker 3: I said, I was talking to you guys before we
- 26:32Speaker 3: went on the air. It's just we went live.
- 26:35Speaker 2: Calling out.
- 26:36Speaker 3: I don't know what happened there. Tried everything I could,
- 26:40Speaker 3: but yep, got the boot Internet. Some days you can't
- 26:43Speaker 3: beat it, some days you can. Today I just couldn't,
- 26:46Speaker 3: but ended up getting the upper handed overtime, So that's
- 26:49Speaker 3: all that. That's all that mattered. But yeah, no, what
- 26:53Speaker 3: do I miss? What did I miss?
- 26:55Speaker 2: BC? Too soon? Overtime?
- 26:57Speaker 3: Soon?
- 26:58Speaker 1: Definitely?
- 26:59Speaker 3: Hey, you know what, this is the year. This is
- 27:03Speaker 3: the year of the better teams not winning. This is
- 27:08Speaker 3: the year of that. Shout out to the Buffalo Sabers
- 27:12Speaker 3: Bulldogs head coach Jay McKee. What like the Buffalo Sabers,
- 27:18Speaker 3: I mean, for any Buffalo fans listening to the show.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Incredible run, incredible run. That was Game seven. They were
- 27:26Speaker 3: the better team. They were the better team, and it's
- 27:29Speaker 3: unfortunate when you lose a Game seven, you're the better team.
- 27:33Speaker 3: The Olympics was like that for Canada. Turned out Monday
- 27:37Speaker 3: night was the exact same way for the Buffalo Sabers,
- 27:40Speaker 3: And it's unfortunate to be on the other end. But
- 27:42Speaker 3: the Carolina Hurricanes will have fun with a bunch of
- 27:44Speaker 3: Allcadians in the third round. I guarantee that.
- 27:47Speaker 2: But as Colin Ward's going to explain, he is not
- 27:51Speaker 2: the goat because the goat was legit, your former head coach.
- 27:57Speaker 3: And yeah, Brian kil Ray, not rank, not coasted the
- 28:01Speaker 3: Autawa sixty sevens.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Yeah, and check yourself.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought. You know, hey, I understand it. You're excited.
- 28:09Speaker 3: You guys love working with Dave Cameron. And that's good.
- 28:12Speaker 3: That's good. I'm glad that the Autawa sixty seven's organization,
- 28:16Speaker 3: people on staff like working with Dave Cameron. That's huge,
- 28:18Speaker 3: that's great. It's nice to hear that relationship. But the
- 28:22Speaker 3: one thing is you can't be post and he's the
- 28:25Speaker 3: goat when Brian Kilray was in your organization, you can't
- 28:29Speaker 3: be doing that.
- 28:31Speaker 2: That's too.
- 28:33Speaker 3: So yeah, well you wait for that. Yeah, I mean
- 28:36Speaker 3: you think about that new facility that London did. Chuck
- 28:38Speaker 3: to josh On Tuesday afternoon. How are we doing, Ncuba,
- 28:44Speaker 3: Come on down. Yeah, I think with that, I just
- 28:48Speaker 3: think it's a little premature calling him the goat. I mean,
- 28:51Speaker 3: as you want a championship behind the bench, I mean,
- 28:53Speaker 3: Brian Kilray has an impressive resume. When you just hockey
- 28:56Speaker 3: dB it e leap prospects at whatever you want to use.
- 29:00Speaker 3: I mean, it's not hard research. But yeah, I think
- 29:05Speaker 3: that that's a tough one. It's great two more years
- 29:09Speaker 3: Dave Cameron. I mean, what he did this year, he
- 29:10Speaker 3: absolutely deserves an extension. But without a doubt, I mean
- 29:14Speaker 3: that's a little premature be calling him the goat, and
- 29:16Speaker 3: Brian Kilray was in that organization. I think that's a
- 29:18Speaker 3: little bit of disrespect toward mister Kilray and everything he
- 29:21Speaker 3: brought to the sixty seventh in the Entario Hockey League
- 29:23Speaker 3: for that matter, throughout his time in the league. Wins
- 29:26Speaker 3: her winds here, that's cool, Winds here, that's cool. They
- 29:29Speaker 3: get the Summer Showcase. It makes sense and seeing it
- 29:32Speaker 3: over in the States for all those years in the
- 29:34Speaker 3: US with USA Hockey having the Prospects Challenge, I think
- 29:37Speaker 3: that's cool. With Plymouth hosting it, winsor getting the opportunity
- 29:40Speaker 3: sens to see it in Canada and Barry, did you say.
- 29:44Speaker 2: Yeah, Barry sale. But as anything on that well rumored, probably.
- 29:49Speaker 3: Yeah, probably, yeah. I think from what I've heard, I
- 29:52Speaker 3: think July will be. I think July first is when
- 29:54Speaker 3: that would become official if it does. I mean, you
- 29:56Speaker 3: see what Owen Sound went for. I mean automatic, the
- 29:59Speaker 3: league's going to round at the end of the year.
- 30:01Speaker 3: You see the end of the season and is it
- 30:02Speaker 3: time to sell? Is it time to stay in? Is
- 30:04Speaker 3: it not your time to sell? When Sound made the decision,
- 30:07Speaker 3: as we're gonna talk about here in a few minutes,
- 30:09Speaker 3: and then Barry obviously, I believe it's very close to
- 30:11Speaker 3: that too. I believe July first, I think that the
- 30:14Speaker 3: name was released, right Jeff Merrick tronop Pats Trump Patriots,
- 30:19Speaker 3: oh JHL owner John Kahari is the rumored candidate to
- 30:26Speaker 3: be buying the very cults. So July first, I expect
- 30:29Speaker 3: that to be the day. But we'll see.
- 30:31Speaker 2: But July first, Yeah, we're getting there. Toronto Patriots, by
- 30:36Speaker 2: the way, just going on a nice run to the
- 30:38Speaker 2: Centennial Cup at the at the junior A level in Canada,
- 30:42Speaker 2: So congrats to them on that. I know they did
- 30:44Speaker 2: lose out in the semifinals, but but that's a pretty
- 30:47Speaker 2: cool run if you can transfer over from that to
- 30:48Speaker 2: the Ontario Hockey League. Pretty good, uh, pretty good summer
- 30:52Speaker 2: stretch there.
- 30:54Speaker 3: Yeah, no, absolutely absolutely, I mean that's cool. I mean
- 30:56Speaker 3: it's nice, right, we get that stepping stone right, So
- 30:59Speaker 3: that's not my multiple sources telling us that too. So
- 31:02Speaker 3: I believe that's a candidate for the Arry Colts great
- 31:05Speaker 3: spot too. I mean, Barry, after seeing what dealing sound
- 31:08Speaker 3: price was, you got to take that. You know, hey,
- 31:10Speaker 3: if I get the right off or why not?
- 31:12Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, exactly, maybe there'll be a media room.
- 31:18Speaker 3: Hey, it makes sense. So hey, it makes sense. So
- 31:20Speaker 3: at the trade deadline, you go back to the trade
- 31:22Speaker 3: deadline with the very cults selling it kind of makes
- 31:24Speaker 3: sense now to see this, Hey, you know what, we
- 31:27Speaker 3: don't want to sell. We want to get that second
- 31:29Speaker 3: third finals gate revenue right, and they got that. They
- 31:33Speaker 3: got that, So now that all makes sense with their
- 31:35Speaker 3: decision to do what they did at the trade deadline.

- 33:41Speaker 2: The OHL Board of Governors has approved the transfer of
- 33:44Speaker 2: ownership of the own Sound Attack Hockey Club. Of course,
- 33:47Speaker 2: this was following a meeting of the OHL Board of
- 33:50Speaker 2: Governors the sale to Ecological Dynamic Sports Partners or EDSP,
- 33:57Speaker 2: which is way easier to say, led by Tyler Noer
- 34:01Speaker 2: and Donald McClure. Of course, there was a press conference
- 34:05Speaker 2: held on Friday the fifteenth at the Bay Shore. Biggest
- 34:10Speaker 2: news out of the press conference is the fries Nobody
- 34:13Speaker 2: gives a rats ass about anything else. That was the
- 34:17Speaker 2: big thing that I took away from that. I wasn't
- 34:19Speaker 2: really listening to anything else.
- 34:21Speaker 3: Really good, but well, the one that not no questions
- 34:24Speaker 3: was interesting. After Commissioner Brian Crawford talked speaking about that
- 34:28Speaker 3: about the league was very frowned upon. Obviously, no one
- 34:31Speaker 3: cares work harder instant, so hey pre asked questions, which
- 34:36Speaker 3: is unfair to the Owen Sound media, but I think
- 34:38Speaker 3: they got their answers. Greg Cowen did a heck of
- 34:40Speaker 3: a job, drove the whole thing on x so for
- 34:42Speaker 3: those on Twitter, go on there and follow Greg Cowen.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Great comedy and also all you need to know one
- 34:49Speaker 3: Sound Attack.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, So essentially, let's read a little bit
- 34:55Speaker 2: of a snippet and if you're watching us on YouTube,
- 34:57Speaker 2: well obviously you're watching us on YouTube. We're live, so
- 35:00Speaker 2: good good one Reese. So the way it kind of
- 35:05Speaker 2: shakes down this whole ownership group and sort of positions
- 35:09Speaker 2: and everything. No there. Momorial Cup Champ with the windsor
- 35:14Speaker 2: Spitfires was part of the NHLPA as a Certified Player Agent.
- 35:19Speaker 2: He will assume the role of president and governor of
- 35:22Speaker 2: the Attack focused on all aspects of the club's hockey strategy,
- 35:25Speaker 2: player development, and competitive direction. Donald McClure is the managing
- 35:31Speaker 2: partner and president of EDSP. It's got over twenty years
- 35:35Speaker 2: of experience as a founder, CEO and entrepreneur to the
- 35:40Speaker 2: Attacks ownership teams.
- 35:41Speaker 3: So your business.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, you not to say that the Owen Sound
- 35:46Speaker 2: Attack had any issues with engagement in the community. However,
- 35:51Speaker 2: this seems like a nice breath of fresh air at
- 35:54Speaker 2: the base or in Owen Sound.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Yeah, no, this is great. I mean, Tyler now they're leaving,
- 36:00Speaker 3: leaving Newport Sports his agency at twenty eight years old,
- 36:04Speaker 3: to run the Owen Soun Attack on the day to
- 36:05Speaker 3: day as president is impressive. I mean, he's been around,
- 36:08Speaker 3: He's been a lot of good teams. He's mentioned with
- 36:09Speaker 3: the Windsors, Fiffires with a lot of Nights for multiple years.
- 36:12Speaker 3: Funny Tyler Another, he was on those teams and you
- 36:14Speaker 3: got to hear the great Mike Stubbs calls on those
- 36:17Speaker 3: London Night playoff runs. So as in high school when
- 36:21Speaker 3: Tyler Nother made his debut with the Night So that's
- 36:23Speaker 3: kind of cool to see him back in the league.
- 36:26Speaker 3: Really cool, really me He's one of those guys growing
- 36:28Speaker 3: up London Knights. That was sweet to see and a
- 36:32Speaker 3: tough guy. He didn't enforcer. I think Greg Cowen had
- 36:34Speaker 3: the tweet on x having him in a fight with
- 36:36Speaker 3: an O Sound Attack player was quite the That would
- 36:40Speaker 3: have been quite the headline post. Nevertheless, to see another
- 36:44Speaker 3: headlined with the Knights, but it's also interesting. Nineteen twenty
- 36:48Speaker 3: a season on Queens for those watching on YouTube, for
- 36:50Speaker 3: those listening the following day on wherever you listen to
- 36:54Speaker 3: your podcast. Queen's University played two games at Queen's. But
- 36:59Speaker 3: it's interesting because he ran into time with Keenan Reynolds
- 37:03Speaker 3: played a lot of time in the Ontario Hockey League
- 37:06Speaker 3: Flint Firebirds. He just bet the last season Erie. He's coached.
- 37:11Speaker 3: He's coached Harry Nancy in the past in Napanee, He's
- 37:15Speaker 3: coached obviously Royston this season in Erie for the short time.
- 37:18Speaker 3: It's interesting with the higher there as we get into
- 37:20Speaker 3: the head coaching, it all makes sense. I want to
- 37:23Speaker 3: mention that when we saw Queens here for another that's
- 37:26Speaker 3: very interesting to see that you know that time at
- 37:29Speaker 3: Queens and obviously the education package doing what it does
- 37:33Speaker 3: in the Ohl for the alumni. So that's a very
- 37:37Speaker 3: interesting to see that higher because it moves back to
- 37:40Speaker 3: U Sports and comes right back to the oh after
- 37:43Speaker 3: all that.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and I mean speaking of of hockey operations and
- 37:49Speaker 2: changes and potential new GMS coaches, whatever the case might be,
- 37:54Speaker 2: the Owen Sound Attack have announced that they've parted ways
- 37:57Speaker 2: with Scott Ray and Regan o great. Of course, Scott
- 38:00Speaker 2: Ray was was head coach of the Attack, with O'Grady
- 38:04Speaker 2: serving as an assistant. That's where the conversation about Keenan
- 38:10Speaker 2: Reynolds has has popped up about being the new own
- 38:12Speaker 2: Sound Attack bench Boughts and you know, essentially the quote
- 38:17Speaker 2: that had really sums up the entire article. And of course,
- 38:20Speaker 2: you know, if you want to read the whole press release,
- 38:21Speaker 2: Owen Sound Attack website has got it for you. But
- 38:24Speaker 2: the one line I wanted to read off after careful consideration,
- 38:27Speaker 2: the organization believes that a new voice is needed to
- 38:30Speaker 2: guide the group and support its development. And unfortunately, there
- 38:36Speaker 2: were some things that came out throughout the season and
- 38:39Speaker 2: and you know after the playoff run or during the
- 38:42Speaker 2: playoff run part of it, the four game run that
- 38:45Speaker 2: the Owen Sound Attack had, Yeah, I would agree with that.
- 38:50Speaker 2: They you know, not saying they're going to overhaul a
- 38:53Speaker 2: roster by any means. They very well could if they
- 38:55Speaker 2: wanted to. It might be rough or tough sledding for
- 39:00Speaker 2: for the own sound Attack over the next couple of years.
- 39:02Speaker 2: If they did. However, Uh, it sounds like the direction. Uh.
- 39:07Speaker 2: The change of direction was very much needed, as we
- 39:10Speaker 2: saw throughout the throughout the season.
- 39:12Speaker 3: Calling man, there's gonna be a lot of There's gonna
- 39:14Speaker 3: be a lot of changes at the Bay Shore in general,
- 39:17Speaker 3: in the business ops. I mean game day, there's gonna
- 39:20Speaker 3: be a lot of changes. I don't know if that's
- 39:21Speaker 3: I'm obviously not gonna get into staffing, but I'm gonna
- 39:24Speaker 3: get into the game day experience is going to be
- 39:27Speaker 3: different at the Bay Shore. For the fans, I believe
- 39:29Speaker 3: there's gonna be a lot more going on with this ownership.
- 39:31Speaker 3: I believe it's gonna be more engaging in the fan
- 39:33Speaker 3: base and that that community there is the most engaging
- 39:36Speaker 3: fan base community with the team there is in the HL.
- 39:40Speaker 3: I mean, you go to the local Tim Hortons and
- 39:42Speaker 3: you see Owen Sound Attack donuts, you see the Owen
- 39:45Speaker 3: Sound Attack people working there, that fans working.
- 39:50Speaker 2: There, you know, and you got the mini schedules on
- 39:52Speaker 2: the counter, yeah, talking.
- 39:53Speaker 3: About the team, and I thought that was really cool.
- 39:55Speaker 3: I think that's really neat about Owen Sound. I think
- 39:57Speaker 3: Owen Sound does a really good job with that. You
- 40:00Speaker 3: really get that they are this talk of the town
- 40:02Speaker 3: and they play to with their population. Is they play
- 40:05Speaker 3: to the market, and I think it works greatly in
- 40:08Speaker 3: Owen Sound. I love it. I truly believe that the
- 40:12Speaker 3: game day experience in the community is going to be
- 40:15Speaker 3: better than what it is and I think that's a
- 40:17Speaker 3: huge advance for the fans. Cauz. I believe when you
- 40:20Speaker 3: see these types of changes, you're gonna see a rebuild
- 40:22Speaker 3: here and that's what you have to do with the roster,
- 40:26Speaker 3: and it's gonna take time. I don't know how much time,
- 40:29Speaker 3: due to the fact that you do have now more
- 40:33Speaker 3: eligibility to sign free agents. I think this group with
- 40:36Speaker 3: and let's not forget Tyler or other just was that
- 40:41Speaker 3: Newport Sports and the sports agency. He was just there
- 40:44Speaker 3: like a month ago. He was working there day to day.
- 40:47Speaker 3: So I truly believe that it's one of those situations
- 40:49Speaker 3: or another where you have the CUSP. You have the players,
- 40:52Speaker 3: you know the player relations well, I believe. I don't
- 40:56Speaker 3: know if he's gonna be the general answer. I don't know,
- 40:58Speaker 3: but it definitely helps having ownersh that can work with
- 41:00Speaker 3: the NC double A, that can relate with ownership. I
- 41:03Speaker 3: look at the Barry Colts if that's the move with Carhari,
- 41:08Speaker 3: You look at the Toronto thought, you look at the OJ.
- 41:10Speaker 3: The OJ notoriously has been known for players to go
- 41:14Speaker 3: to the NC DOUBLEA after the difference between the g
- 41:17Speaker 3: O and the OJ was well, the g O was
- 41:19Speaker 3: kind of a feeding ground to the OHL. OJ was
- 41:22Speaker 3: kind of these eighteen year old they're going to bolt
- 41:24Speaker 3: to college that weren't gonna play in the OHL. That's
- 41:27Speaker 3: kind of the difference that I always thought of off
- 41:29Speaker 3: the top of my head. And I think with this
- 41:30Speaker 3: move or Barry, it makes sense to the modern day
- 41:33Speaker 3: landscape of the OHL and the CHL And I truly
- 41:35Speaker 3: believe that the Owens own attack. The one way that
- 41:37Speaker 3: can speed up a rebuild one thousand percent would be
- 41:41Speaker 3: if you have that ability to sign NC DOUBLEA free agents.
- 41:45Speaker 3: And I think that's what this does now with the
- 41:48Speaker 3: with the purchasing with Utter or with Mutter McClure, and
- 41:53Speaker 3: I think mccluar's great for the I think that is
- 41:55Speaker 3: great for the business side of things. I think that
- 41:57Speaker 3: is huge. Hearing what you mentioned. Reason that release is
- 42:01Speaker 3: big on its own. They get hey, they did everything right.
- 42:05Speaker 3: They don't want to change the good. They just want
- 42:06Speaker 3: to add things that they can think that they think
- 42:08Speaker 3: they can make things better, and I think that's huge.
- 42:10Speaker 3: As long as they have a good staff, things will
- 42:13Speaker 3: be fine. You have to be able to take opinions
- 42:15Speaker 3: from other people who have been in the organization, who
- 42:18Speaker 3: have put their times in, the people that have been
- 42:20Speaker 3: in OW and Sound for a long time. You got
- 42:23Speaker 3: to get their opinion. Those opinions are valued more than
- 42:26Speaker 3: anything else. The season ticket holders, the people that pay
- 42:29Speaker 3: their hard earned money day in and day out, are
- 42:31Speaker 3: the ones that matter to this new group and they
- 42:34Speaker 3: have to They have to value their opinions more than anything.
- 42:37Speaker 3: They have to be heard if this is gonna work.
- 42:40Speaker 3: Like any ownership, right, you sit on your screen on YouTube,
- 42:43Speaker 3: but loo get into it in a second. You look at.
- 42:44Speaker 2: Niagara, I knew you were going there.
- 42:47Speaker 3: What's ownership? What's ownership? Think of them? You know, what's
- 42:50Speaker 3: the fan basic of ownership. You look at the empty
- 42:52Speaker 3: seats while it shows.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Yeah. And again if you're listening afterwards and you can't
- 42:58Speaker 2: see the tweet because well you're listening. Greg Cowan tweeting
- 43:03Speaker 2: out that I expect GM Dale de Gray will be
- 43:06Speaker 2: let go, with sources saying he'll likely become the next
- 43:09Speaker 2: GM in Niagara. How long a year? Year and a half,
- 43:16Speaker 2: two years?
- 43:17Speaker 3: I mean, captains, come on now.
- 43:20Speaker 2: No, it's interesting to think of because you know, we
- 43:25Speaker 2: don't really know what Niagara is, and and JM is
- 43:28Speaker 2: usually like to they usually like to have their guys.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Does that mean BArch is back? Who knows any of
- 43:37Speaker 2: the well obviously not all of the assistants, but like also,
- 43:44Speaker 2: and this is no knock at Dale de Gray. I've
- 43:45Speaker 2: never met the man personally. I just go based off
- 43:49Speaker 2: of his hockey decisions and some of the things he
- 43:51Speaker 2: said at trade deadlines, like is this just a higher
- 43:58Speaker 2: because de Gray has been in the LEA sure you
- 44:02Speaker 2: can't argue with that. He's has experience in the Ontario
- 44:05Speaker 2: Hockey League. Don't get me wrong, I don't know if
- 44:09Speaker 2: this would benefit Niagara that much, to be honest with you,
- 44:12Speaker 2: And again that's no personal shot at Dale de Gray.
- 44:15Speaker 2: I'm basing it off of hockey decisions made over the
- 44:17Speaker 2: last two three seasons.
- 44:19Speaker 3: You know what this is gonna be. This is what
- 44:21Speaker 3: thouted doubt and from past experiences, from past sources. This
- 44:26Speaker 3: is one of those moves where ownership for Niagara is
- 44:30Speaker 3: desperate to be a five hundred little bit above five
- 44:32Speaker 3: hundred team. How many wins would take to get five
- 44:35Speaker 3: hundred while just win thirty games? You win thirty games
- 44:38Speaker 3: with one sound attack doing Dale de grace experience in
- 44:42Speaker 3: his time win thirty games. I truly believe this is
- 44:46Speaker 3: Niagara Ice Dog's ownership saying well, hey we gotta get
- 44:50Speaker 3: winning here. We gotta do something. Dale de Gray's won
- 44:53Speaker 3: thirty games every year. The iisce dogs have won thirty
- 44:56Speaker 3: thirty games? Is what once or twice over the last
- 44:59Speaker 3: seven years, Like this is them? This is this is
- 45:04Speaker 3: that ice Dog's ownership saying, hey we can get some consistency.
- 45:08Speaker 3: Maybe that's a little better. So it's trending in a
- 45:11Speaker 3: positive manner, believe it or not, for over the last
- 45:13Speaker 3: few seasons. But I don't I don't know. I this
- 45:18Speaker 3: is gonna go up or down. But like you said Reese.
- 45:21Speaker 3: The past trade deadlines, you set the market two years
- 45:24Speaker 3: ago with the first trade of the deadline, and then
- 45:27Speaker 3: you say the market was too high, but you set it.
- 45:30Speaker 3: If you're gonna do that in Niagara, well this is
- 45:32Speaker 3: gonna be a one and done, one and done into
- 45:34Speaker 3: the NBA or into can Kun Welcome to our can
- 45:37Speaker 3: kuon segment next year. This time, I don't like this
- 45:42Speaker 3: is either gonna go one way. It's either gonna go
- 45:44Speaker 3: like that, or it's gonna be a success. I have
- 45:47Speaker 3: no clue. I think it's one of those moves you're
- 45:49Speaker 3: trying to be mid, But those moves, I don't think
- 45:53Speaker 3: this is the move. You know what this move is.
- 45:56Speaker 3: This is the move where you acquire a backup goalie
- 45:58Speaker 3: to be your number one and he stole oars and
- 46:01Speaker 3: it doesn't work out. That's what that's that's my can
- 46:05Speaker 3: that's my thing. That's my expectations with this. Vesa Tosco.
- 46:09Speaker 3: He was good a leaf fans. It's all from center ice.
- 46:12Speaker 3: Holy mackinawm.
- 46:14Speaker 2: I just think generous center ice.
- 46:16Speaker 3: He was from the other end. It was from the
- 46:18Speaker 3: other goal line ball.
- 46:24Speaker 2: I just looked like Scottie Scheffler. At the Masters a
- 46:26Speaker 2: few years ago.
- 46:28Speaker 3: Two. I just think that. I just think it's either
- 46:32Speaker 3: gonna go one or two ways, and I one of
- 46:34Speaker 3: two ways. And I believe this is gonna be a
- 46:36Speaker 3: mid move. I hope I'm wrong. I hope I'm wrong.
- 46:40Speaker 3: But what is the past showed us? What is the
- 46:43Speaker 3: past showing us with those moves? I mean, you look
- 46:47Speaker 3: at owen sound, you look at the ice Dog's path past,
- 46:52Speaker 3: you look at what I own's sound about how they quit.
- 46:55Speaker 3: I mean, we were in a movie theater two years ago.
- 46:58Speaker 3: But I I I don't know. I hope it works
- 47:01Speaker 3: for the ice Dogs. I do, Like I said, the
- 47:03Speaker 3: fan base gotta have something to cheer about. They gotta
- 47:07Speaker 3: get something to cheer about. But at the end of
- 47:09Speaker 3: the day, let's see what happens. We'll see what happens.
- 47:11Speaker 3: And I I don't know, but like I said, I
- 47:14Speaker 3: have the feeling it's like hiring a backup goaltender to
- 47:17Speaker 3: be your number one. It doesn't always work when they
- 47:20Speaker 3: got to play forty games instead of just the twenty.
- 47:23Speaker 3: So I'll just leave it at that.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Yeah, all right? To uh the champions, the Kitchener Rangers
- 47:31Speaker 2: Ontario Hockey League champions for the first time since two thousand.
- 47:36Speaker 3: That's a good year.
- 47:37Speaker 2: Red Wings won the Stanley Cup that year. That was awesome.
- 47:39Speaker 2: Also the year can break the Memorial Cup.
- 47:43Speaker 3: Yeah, hey, I hope that happens. What's the odds that
- 47:46Speaker 3: happens in Cologna the Rangers. You're back at the memcalp.
- 47:49Speaker 2: Oh man, it breaks then, I think it's I think
- 47:52Speaker 2: it's just a curse on the Kitchener Rangers. Whenever they're
- 47:55Speaker 2: around the Memorial Cup. It breaks in our town, get
- 47:59Speaker 2: that thing. I mean, it's tough to say anything like
- 48:03Speaker 2: and it didn't really break, but the j Ross Robertson Cup.
- 48:07Speaker 2: The lid did pop off last year when the London
- 48:09Speaker 2: Nights were celebrating. Again, different than breaking. Yeah, but that
- 48:12Speaker 2: was a hashtag too though, Brandon and if you're still on?
- 48:16Speaker 2: That was like the league played that up to, like
- 48:19Speaker 2: off goes the top.
- 48:20Speaker 3: I know this detached, but like they always said, like
- 48:23Speaker 3: when you hoist it, when the lid comes off, it's
- 48:25Speaker 3: always go Obviously this wasn't the case. But yeah, no,
- 48:29Speaker 3: very very interesting. I love that when that happens. Other
- 48:32Speaker 3: on the misplace.
- 48:33Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, it's just it's it's it's just funny,
- 48:35Speaker 2: like it's it's no shot at anyone, it's just it's
- 48:38Speaker 2: really funny. But yeah, if you're watching us on YouTube live,
- 48:42Speaker 2: if you're if you're listening to us, I mean, just
- 48:44Speaker 2: a great photo of the kitchen Rangers celebrating at OHL
- 48:47Speaker 2: Championship Series, uh victory at Center Ice at Sadlant Arena.
- 48:54Speaker 2: I mean what a team. Uh they were. They were
- 48:57Speaker 2: phenomenal in the playoffs. Yeah, that was It would have
- 49:02Speaker 2: been a massive hill if the Barry Colts would have
- 49:06Speaker 2: got to the top first, based on Kitchener resting and
- 49:10Speaker 2: the Colts going through a very tough seven game series
- 49:16Speaker 2: against the Branford Bulldogs. But it was a five to
- 49:18Speaker 2: two winning Game one for Kitchener, a four to three
- 49:20Speaker 2: overtime winning Game two, a four to three double overtime
- 49:23Speaker 2: winning Game three. And I mean that that's that's that's
- 49:27Speaker 2: the game that hurt Game three, Yeah, that was one
- 49:30Speaker 2: that in game four, Yeah.
- 49:33Speaker 3: Yeah, that was the one that hurt the Colts. I
- 49:34Speaker 3: mean you think about it, Showy the cole Bode win too.
- 49:36Speaker 3: By the way, he played with the torno or he
- 49:37Speaker 3: didn't play, but he had a tornob leakue twenty nine. Yeah,
- 49:42Speaker 3: for the rest of that, for the rest of that
- 49:43Speaker 3: round three, Yeah yeah. Col Bode went twenty nine points
- 49:47Speaker 3: in the postseason, I mean the limited games. That's incredible.
- 49:50Speaker 3: Twenty nine points. He had won a run that was
- 49:54Speaker 3: you look at those sam O'Reilly MVP twenty eight points
- 49:57Speaker 3: in the postseason that game three when you look back
- 50:00Speaker 3: on it on the colt So that's a different direction.
- 50:02Speaker 3: You lose a game on home ice or you win
- 50:03Speaker 3: that first game on home ice, huge difference in the series.
- 50:06Speaker 3: They always say you're not out of a game. You're
- 50:08Speaker 3: not out of a series until you lose at home.
- 50:11Speaker 3: That's a tough one. You drop a double ot. But
- 50:12Speaker 3: the Rangers just came in waves. And I mean that
- 50:15Speaker 3: line when you see Oiley, Pridam and Edwards, I mean,
- 50:19Speaker 3: how about Edwards? How about that Dylan with the with
- 50:23Speaker 3: the Christian kersh stick to the head, the the towel
- 50:28Speaker 3: around the head like the bandana with the blood leaking out. Iconic, iconic.
- 50:34Speaker 3: I cannot wait to show.
- 50:38Speaker 2: One day. You know that Jersey's got to hang up there.
- 50:41Speaker 1: You know.
- 50:41Speaker 3: The first thing I tell my kid one day is
- 50:43Speaker 3: if they can't play like that, don't play too. First thing,
- 50:47Speaker 3: I tell my grandkids that if you can't play like that,
- 50:50Speaker 3: don't play. That's gonna be the Ward family motto.
- 50:54Speaker 2: You're gonna get that.
- 50:57Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I wish that six on the back was
- 50:59Speaker 3: a four team. That was unbelievable. That was so cool.
- 51:03Speaker 3: And I mean Dylan Edwards plays. I mean, hey, GM
- 51:07Speaker 3: of the Year. How is Mike McKenzie.
- 51:12Speaker 2: Not in that? Yeah?
- 51:15Speaker 3: Like yeah, all and Sam O'Reilly the biggest trade of
- 51:18Speaker 3: the year.
- 51:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. On Mike McKenzie's name currently swirling around as
- 51:25Speaker 2: not a front runner, but but a potential candidate to
- 51:28Speaker 2: be the AGM in Boston. It's gotta be all over
- 51:31Speaker 2: the He's he's he's made his mark, He's gotten to
- 51:35Speaker 2: the top. He got to the championship, which is what
- 51:37Speaker 2: he was looking for at the end of the day.
- 51:39Speaker 2: And he got the job accomplished by saying, Okay, he
- 51:42Speaker 2: didn't want to give us the Memorial Cup, all right,
- 51:44Speaker 2: bleep you We're just gonna go win it and then
- 51:46Speaker 2: win the Men Cup out West this year.
- 51:48Speaker 3: So yeah, I know, absolutely, I mean, and then you
- 51:51Speaker 3: look at it on YouTube. You see Samue O'Reilly on
- 51:54Speaker 3: your screen accepting his ninety nine Award for Playoff MVP.
- 51:57Speaker 3: You know what's interesting about Sam O'Reilly that was so
- 52:00Speaker 3: that was so big with him is he's been now
- 52:03Speaker 3: to the MEM Cup three seasons in a row, winning
- 52:06Speaker 3: four years in a row in the OHL Finals, winning
- 52:08Speaker 3: the OHL Championship now three years in a row. I
- 52:11Speaker 3: mean incredible runs. If there's a player and here we go, Brandon,
- 52:17Speaker 3: you can clip it because this is in the thing
- 52:20Speaker 3: all year and probably fans other outside of Kitchener and
- 52:23Speaker 3: lundon a I I think I'm absolutely crazy. But if
- 52:26Speaker 3: there's a player who's deserving to go in the Hockey
- 52:29Speaker 3: Hall of Fame before even playing a game in the NHL,
- 52:32Speaker 3: juster than what they've done with team success in the
- 52:36Speaker 3: in the OHL at Sam o'reiley four years in a
- 52:39Speaker 3: row to the OHL Finals, in the OHL. Part of
- 52:42Speaker 3: the Hockey Hall of Fame, that stat has to be
- 52:45Speaker 3: in there, not obviously not the player in the Hockey
- 52:49Speaker 3: Hall of Fame, but that stat has to be in
- 52:51Speaker 3: the Hockey Hall of Fame because it is the Hockey
- 52:53Speaker 3: Hall of Fame, not the NHL Hall of Fame. And
- 52:55Speaker 3: that is a heck of a hockey stat. First three
- 52:58Speaker 3: seasons in the league in the OHL Finals, two years
- 53:02Speaker 3: in the mem Cup. This year it goes to Kitchener
- 53:04Speaker 3: Mem Cup OHL Championship. I mean, I've never saw this
- 53:09Speaker 3: in my lifetime a player do this, So I think
- 53:11Speaker 3: this is really cool. I think it's really cool. Sam
- 53:14Speaker 3: o'reiley took us a lot, took us along for the ride.
- 53:17Speaker 3: Being able to see this is really special, and I
- 53:21Speaker 3: don't and I know there's gonna be a lot of
- 53:22Speaker 3: people that aren't gonna see this again. With the new
- 53:24Speaker 3: landscape and everything in the Hockey HL, this is probably
- 53:28Speaker 3: not gonna happen again for a very long time. So
- 53:31Speaker 3: it's really cool to be able to see in Sam o'reiley.
- 53:33Speaker 3: I mean, like I said, I might be crazy, but
- 53:36Speaker 3: that stat's got to be in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Yeah one, And you said it perfectly. It's a hockey
- 53:41Speaker 2: Hall of Fame. It's not the NHL Hall of Fame.
- 53:43Speaker 2: The NHL has not had success in Toronto in way
- 53:46Speaker 2: more than fifty years. Well, obviously they've got the Stanley Cup,
- 53:50Speaker 2: but you know, it's been a few years since the
- 53:53Speaker 2: team in Toronto has had it. So no, I'm with you, Like,
- 53:56Speaker 2: if you've got your Ohl section set up, and it
- 53:59Speaker 2: does not include Sam O'Reilly with four straight OHL Championship appearances,
- 54:03Speaker 2: three straight championships. He's gonna go for his second Memorial
- 54:06Speaker 2: Cup championship if he wins it. That's another that's another
- 54:12Speaker 2: feather in his cap.
- 54:13Speaker 3: Like that's that's gotta be automatics.
- 54:16Speaker 2: Yeah, Like again, you're getting into the territory of the Halls,
- 54:23Speaker 2: the hen Reeks, the Ellis's, you know, know, the Harry
- 54:28Speaker 2: Young being a captain for a championship and winsor like
- 54:30Speaker 2: you think of some of the teams that have won
- 54:33Speaker 2: back to back or two and three, like obviously the
- 54:35Speaker 2: London Knights jump out and some of the runs they've
- 54:38Speaker 2: had twenty twelve, twenty thirteen, you know, spitfires in the
- 54:43Speaker 2: late two thousands, early twenty tens. You know, it's just
- 54:48Speaker 2: he's on that level. And and yes he yeah, he
- 54:52Speaker 2: won two championships with London. Now he's got one with Kitchener.
- 54:55Speaker 2: But it doesn't make a difference. You know, it wouldn't
- 54:59Speaker 2: surprise me if the conversation has had where where Sam
- 55:02Speaker 2: O'Reilly's number heads to the rafters in London. And again
- 55:06Speaker 2: I understand that some are based off of how well
- 55:10Speaker 2: they do in the NHL. I I get that, But
- 55:13Speaker 2: if you're talking London Night's success, Sam O'Reilly goes up there.
- 55:18Speaker 2: Uh he has to.
- 55:20Speaker 3: He's been on three teams that have won it. Yeah,
- 55:22Speaker 3: he's been on three teams that have won it, you know.
- 55:24Speaker 3: And and just in London, I mean or not want
- 55:27Speaker 3: it London and London the year they hosted the mem Cup,
- 55:31Speaker 3: I mean they were a mem Cup host. They didn't
- 55:33Speaker 3: win their way there. They lost to GWELF and GWELF
- 55:36Speaker 3: was the better team that year by far. Those teams.
- 55:40Speaker 3: You look at the guys like Max Domi, the impact
- 55:43Speaker 3: they had on the London Nights when they were there.
- 55:46Speaker 3: Sam o'illy over to them with the impact he's had
- 55:49Speaker 3: with the winning pedigree, without a doubt, and also with
- 55:54Speaker 3: the way for how long it's been since the Rangers
- 55:57Speaker 3: have been in there. How about Kitchener, Yeah, I mean
- 56:02Speaker 3: that's the biggest trade in franchise history over well, no,
- 56:05Speaker 3: you're not franchise history. They've had a historic franchise, but
- 56:08Speaker 3: over the last twenty seasons, man, since two thousand and eight,
- 56:12Speaker 3: that's the biggest trade. Yeah, yep, that's incredible.
- 56:17Speaker 2: Yeah, And I mean, you saw it up there, the
- 56:18Speaker 2: dominance from the Midwest Division in the Ontario Hockey League.
- 56:22Speaker 2: Obviously Kitchener winning it this year, London's won at the
- 56:25Speaker 2: last two. You talked about the Gulf Storm winning in
- 56:28Speaker 2: twenty nineteen, the Otters winning in twenty seventeen. Just really,
- 56:36Speaker 2: we know how good this division is. It could be
- 56:38Speaker 2: the toughest division in the Canadian Hockey League to play in. Now.
- 56:41Speaker 2: I you know, I understand the Western Hockey League they
- 56:45Speaker 2: travel quite a bit, so that can obviously be very,
- 56:48Speaker 2: very tough. But when you look at franchise history, those
- 56:55Speaker 2: four teams stand out immediately, you know it. It's hard
- 57:01Speaker 2: to say that there's a tougher division for sure in
- 57:04Speaker 2: the OHL, and it's up there for for the Canadian
- 57:08Speaker 2: Hockey League. It's just it's not even close. And we
- 57:10Speaker 2: talk about it all the time, Colin. Obviously people know
- 57:12Speaker 2: we we cover the Bulldogs fairly closely, just about how
- 57:17Speaker 2: different and how much tougher it is to play in
- 57:19Speaker 2: the Midwest Division compared to the East Division or the
- 57:23Speaker 2: Central Division. And that's no knock at those two divisions whatsoever,
- 57:27Speaker 2: But the Midwest Division is it's it's on another it's
- 57:32Speaker 2: on another Central is the best. Yeah, okay, Brandon, Right,
- 57:36Speaker 2: So you know it's it's it's hard to compete.
- 57:40Speaker 3: It's hard to compete with West. Yeah no, I I
- 57:45Speaker 3: truly believe. But you look at you look at this division,
- 57:48Speaker 3: I think, and man, we got to get rid of
- 57:50Speaker 3: the mid part. Nothing min about this.
- 57:52Speaker 2: It's the top West division.
- 57:55Speaker 3: It's yeah, no, the big dogs eat, you know, and
- 57:58Speaker 3: every year for us to be better than parody in
- 58:00Speaker 3: that division is strong. You look at you look at
- 58:04Speaker 3: teams that had rough years this year in that Midwest. Right,
- 58:06Speaker 3: if you don't bring it, if you don't bring it,
- 58:08Speaker 3: you're gonna have a long year. And every year it
- 58:10Speaker 3: feels like there's a team year He's went through there,
- 58:13Speaker 3: went through their dog days. GWELF has went through their
- 58:16Speaker 3: dog days. Next year, I'm sure they're going to be
- 58:18Speaker 3: the team with what they bring to the table hosting
- 58:21Speaker 3: the mem Cup. You look at the Rangers have gone
- 58:23Speaker 3: to go through and obviously a lot of Knights, I
- 58:25Speaker 3: mean it's kind of a lot of Night Division and
- 58:28Speaker 3: Owen Sound for that matter too. They've had those strong teams.
- 58:31Speaker 3: You look at Suzuki era, the Phillups on those teams.
- 58:34Speaker 3: I mean those teams you look at, you look at
- 58:36Speaker 3: what they bring to the table and Owen Sound, I
- 58:38Speaker 3: mean they play a hard nosed game. Every year there's
- 58:41Speaker 3: at least three out of five competitive teams, and you
- 58:44Speaker 3: can argue this year was at least competitive out of
- 58:45Speaker 3: the next with a lot of Knights end up finishing
- 58:48Speaker 3: fourth in the conference. I mean, you can argue this
- 58:51Speaker 3: was the least competitive out of the Midwest the season.
- 58:53Speaker 3: They still found a way with the Rangers. I think
- 58:56Speaker 3: that every year this division is just so talented. It's uh,
- 58:59Speaker 3: it's cool. I mean you always see a player highly
- 59:02Speaker 3: ranked on the draft rankings, and every year you see
- 59:06Speaker 3: something new, right and like like you say, like you know,
- 59:10Speaker 3: Gall's gonna be going for it next year with the
- 59:11Speaker 3: men Coop, Like it's just going to continue.
- 59:14Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. And I mean you even look back at
- 59:17Speaker 2: the Own Sound Attack. Sure they're not included on this graphic,
- 59:19Speaker 2: but they've got a championship in the last two decades.
- 59:22Speaker 2: It's not like it's we're talking the nineteen fifties. The
- 59:25Speaker 2: last time Owned Sound won a championship. They knew they
- 59:28Speaker 2: had an automatic end to the Memorial Cup that was
- 59:31Speaker 2: being hosted in Mississauga. You know, they went out and
- 59:33Speaker 2: wanted anyways in that building. So so that says a
- 59:36Speaker 2: lot about the Midwest Division because you know, not to
- 59:39Speaker 2: forget Owen Sound, but it hasn't been that long, not
- 59:43Speaker 2: Toronto Maple leafs long since the Owen Sound Attack last
- 59:46Speaker 2: won a championship, so worth mentioning as well. We head
- 59:50Speaker 2: to the Memorial Cup this coming Friday, May twenty second
- 59:53Speaker 2: is when things kick off, and it's always nice to
- 59:55Speaker 2: see the OHL champion get things started. It's the Kitchener
- 59:59Speaker 2: Rangers and the Kelowna Rockets on the twenty second, a
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: couple days off for the Rangers. After that, they won't
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: play Saturday the twenty third, they won't play Sunday the
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: twenty fourth, but they're back in action Monday the twenty
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: fifth against the Everett Silver Tips. That is the WHL
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: champion and then they get Chikuta me the next day
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: May twenty sixth, to round out their pre or round
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: robin schedule. I should say, with everything getting finished, Colonna
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: and Everett the two WHL representatives. On the twenty seventh.
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: If a tie breaker is necessary, that's May twenty eighth.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: The semifinal is May twenty ninth, and the championship is
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: May thirty first. That is a Sunday, a four o'clock
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: Pacific start, so you look at a seven o'clock start
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: Eastern time. Colin, again, I said it off the top.
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: We're not WHL experts by any means. We're not QMJHL
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: experts by any means. If they're on, we're gonna watch
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: it absolutely because it's junior hockey and I still enjoy
- 1:01:03Speaker 2: it way more than the NHL. But in terms of
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: what the Kitchener Rangers bring to the table, how do
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: you like them in this four team tournament?
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: This is gonna be interesting. You know, the last month
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: or so, I've I've taken a deep dive in the
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: WHL in the queue. Actually, I think it's gonna be interesting.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: I really like Everetts team. I think Evert's a good team.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: Chacutimy is a defensive first team. They don't get out
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: of the position. You even look at the queue, or
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: you go to the CHL and you look at the
- 1:01:30Speaker 3: top scorers in the CHL playoffs, you look for Checunity players.
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: Where are they?
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: You know?
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: And they got some talent there for sure, Checutity, there's hard,
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: system oriented team, great defensive team. I think it's gonna
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: be interesting for Checuity. I think that's gonna be an
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: interesting matchup with how the Rangers match up against them.
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: They're a strong, defensive, heavy team, great goaltending with the
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: Ottawa Senders. Second round pick in goal for Chacuti me,
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: I think that is interesting to see what happens in
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: that matchup. For for Kitchener, I truly believe Everett's going
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: to be the toughest matchup. Game one to me is interesting.
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: You get the host team. And I was talking about
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: this earlier on Tuesday afternoon, and I was talking about
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: Kelowna and how they're going to look how they had
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: all this time off getting out in round two. But
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: you think about it, Everett, you're looking at ten days rest, Kitchener,
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: you're looking at two weeks rest.
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: Yeah, great point that kind of goes out the window.
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: OB mean, Bruce is heel in fourteen days? Bruises heel,
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: broken bones do not. But hey, all of a sudden
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: a week goes by. I'm getting up a lot easier, right,
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: He's got these eighteen year old it's a heal a
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: lot quicker. Two weeks is a big difference. I believe
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: the Kitchener Rangers matchup great with the Colona Rockets. It'll
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: be interesting to see that top line for Colonna. You
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: look at Teach again, the guys like that in the
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: Rocket lineup. They're strong, obviously impact players. You saw what
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: Teach again, looking do He's going to be that showcase
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: player for the Clona Rockets. Monday night, May twenty fifth
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: is the game I believe with the round robin where
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: we will see if the Rangers win, they control their
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: destiny the following night against Shakutamy to have that buy
- 1:03:14Speaker 3: right to the finals. I truly believe that they should
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: beat Kelowna and I believe they should beat Shakutam. The
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: one game to me is that Everett game. I'm very
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: interested with Julius manettin Seattle second round pick, fourteen goals
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: in the postseason. Forever you look at Matthias Vahanen another year,
- 1:03:34Speaker 3: twelve goals. They're getting strong import play. And I didn't
- 1:03:37Speaker 3: even mention Landon due point. Young top defenseman coming up
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: this year. Carter bann first round picked by the Red Wings,
- 1:03:45Speaker 3: and I didn't even mention him and that's the crazy
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: part of the depth that Everett has. They have a
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: big defensive cores. I think Everett is the prototypical Western
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: Hockey League team that we think of. They have these
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: skilled guys on their top lines in their third and
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: fourth They fight, they grind, they hit, their physical, they're feisty,
- 1:04:04Speaker 3: and that's whatever. It is very intriguing to me as
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: we go in a tournament. You saw it last year
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: with the London Knights, who gave the London Knights to
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: struggling the Memon Cup last year, right the Medicine Hat Tigers,
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: Western Hockey League Hockey, and I truly believe this is
- 1:04:20Speaker 3: the situation where if you play, that's gonna be the test.
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: That is gonna be the test. That's why you got
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: a Anovski back. That's why you trade it for Jared
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: Wooley and Mike McKenzie. This is where those trades are
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: going to be beneficial for the Rangers because that's the matchup.
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: To me, Monday night, May twenty fifth is the matchup.
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: If everything goes away, I think it should go That's
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: going to be the game Monday evening, May twenty fifth
- 1:04:48Speaker 3: in Kelowna. I mean Ohl that's gonna be the main stage.
- 1:04:51Speaker 3: There's gonna be nothing better on TV than that. For
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: any hockey fan, that's going to be the game. In
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: my opinion, that should be the championship matchup. On paper,
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: that's what I have. I'm excited to see that. I
- 1:05:02Speaker 3: can't believe it. You mentioned Everett's roster and you think
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: about me at and all these other talents, and then
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: you get the Carter Mayre and you're thinking, well, that's
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: the third fourth guy on the team. Yeah, you see
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: the ever average Silver Tips being the toughest team. I
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: also think in this year's Men Cup, I really think
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: it's really cool for the game. Check you here to me,
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: it's it been thirty five years since your last title.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: Everett has never been has never won a championship in
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: the Western hockeygue before to the mem Cup. Gets your
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: Rangers since two thousand and eight. That is, this is
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: the first time Rockets as the host. Yeah, Coon of
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: Rockets as the host. I think I think this is
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: for And you look at the markets, chakud to me,
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: bigger marketing Quebec just on the outskirts of Quebec city.
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: You look at Kelowna, I mean what a beautiful city,
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: a beautiful city you you look at as the host.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: I mean this is this reminds me a lot of
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: when Cambo's got it the last time through where you
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: look at the I mean, the graphics on TV should
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: be beautiful. For I can't wait for the Memorial Cup arrival.
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: That's one of my favorite parts, the Memorial Cup arrival
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: in the military. The footage should be unbelievable with the
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: with the breakfast and all that goes, all those festivities
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: there and then Everett first time, first time ever being
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: in the Meme Cup. I mean, we're growing the game
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: in multiple multiple cities here in the COCHL. This is incredible.
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: This Men Cup is going to be a beauty because
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: I think it's very interesting. Chakuda that man, that's Saturday,
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: May twenty third. Game two is gonna be fun too.
- 1:06:40Speaker 3: Chakuda me Everett if Everett plays defensive hockey, because I
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: don't know if you saw it or not. Monked in
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: Game five refereetions blue down, the play, blue down, the play,
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: Chakunimi will dump the puck in and they won't for check.
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: They'll back five guys back at the blue line and
- 1:06:57Speaker 3: they'll say Hey, beat us. Monkton just stood there on
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: the faceoff dot and the referee just blew it dead
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: two minutes no play. That's gonna be interesting against the
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: Western Hockey League style hot play with every big body
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: and you know, a little bruised through there. I'm very
- 1:07:12Speaker 3: intrigued for those matches.
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: I love every game. This is sick, every game in
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: the every game in this Memorial Cup. It's the hardest
- 1:07:19Speaker 3: trophy to win, and it's the hardest field. I believe
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: in this year's tournament, I think it's going to be good.
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: I think Kolowna being a host in the DUB is
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: different than a host in the queue with last season,
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: years prior years prior as well. I think kolonna is
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: a team that's gonna be physical, obviously not gonna get
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: pushed around. And I'm very intrigued to see how that
- 1:07:41Speaker 3: matches up in a one game. You've had five weeks off.
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: We'll see the difference now if that, if that makes
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: a factor, because this is the one tournament where there's
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: been a lot of time off for every team. So
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: we'll see what happens again.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: It gets started Friday, May twenty second. Kitchener Rangers and
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: Kolowna Rockets at the two thousand and two twenty six
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: Memorial Cup. Everyone, thank you so much for tuning in throughout.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: We had some audio difficulties with Wardy as we got
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: started in about halfway through the show, but we got
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: through it. We're all right. That's what we're here for.
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: We're a team. We get through it when audio doesn't
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: work or a screen or camera doesn't work, so we're good.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: We'll be all right. It sucks the OHL playoffs have
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: come to an end, but also it's one of the
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: most exciting hockey tournaments on the calendar coming up, if
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: not the most exciting hockey tournament on the calendar. So
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: thank you so much for tuning into this one. It's
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: not our final show. We're going to put a bow
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: on the entire OHL season once a Memorial Cup has concluded,
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: just to kind of look back at the year that
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: was in twenty twenty five and twenty twenty six. So
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: for BC, for Colin Ward, I'm Reice Domani. Thanks so
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: much for tuning in to this edition of the Ohl
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: and sixty podcast. Enjoy the Memorial Cup and well let's
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: go Rangers. Let's keep the Memorial Cup in the Ohl
