Lucas: Today we're learning how to say 'aunty' and 'uncle' in Telugu — but specifically for your mom's sister or dad's sister, and your mom's brother or dad's brother. Luna: Oh, that's useful. In English we just say aunty and uncle for everyone, but Telugu is more specific, right? Lucas: Exactly. Today we'll focus on the general terms: అత్త for aunty, and మామ for uncle. Let's start with అత్త. Luna: అత్త. Lucas: Good. అత్త. That means aunty. Can you try a sentence? 'Where is aunty?' is అత్త ఎక్కడ? Luna: అత్త ఎక్కడ? Lucas: Perfect. Now for uncle: మామ. And 'Where is uncle?' — మామ ఎక్కడ? Luna: మామ ఎక్కడ? Lucas: You've got it. Let me say all four again: అత్త, అత్త ఎక్కడ?, మామ, మామ ఎక్కడ? Luna: అత్త, అత్త ఎక్కడ?, మామ, మామ ఎక్కడ? Lucas: Beautiful. You walk in and see your aunt. You ask: అత్త ఎక్కడ? Luna: అత్త ఎక్కడ? Oh, she's in the kitchen. And then you see your uncle: మామ ఎక్కడ? Lucas: He's in the living room. So you can say: అత్త కిచెన్ లో ఉంది, మామ లివింగ్ రూమ్ లో ఉన్నాడు. Luna: That's a full sentence! But we only learned 'where is' today. Can you break that down? Lucas: Sure. 'అత్త కిచెన్ లో ఉంది' means 'Aunty is in the kitchen.' 'మామ లివింగ్ రూమ్ లో ఉన్నాడు' means 'Uncle is in the living room.' For now, just focus on the question forms: అత్త ఎక్కడ? and మామ ఎక్కడ? Luna: Got it. So if I want to ask where my aunt is, I say అత్త ఎక్కడ? Lucas: Yes. And for uncle: మామ ఎక్కడ? Luna: మామ ఎక్కడ? Lucas: Excellent. Let's do a quick review. Repeat after me: అత్త.
