- 0:34SPEAKER_01: Welcome to the O'Brien and Doug podcast.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: I am O'Brien.
- 0:38SPEAKER_10: I am Doug.
- 0:39SPEAKER_10: I was just imitating you.
- 0:41SPEAKER_10: Thank you.
- 0:41SPEAKER_10: I appreciate that.
- 0:42SPEAKER_10: That's good.
- 0:43SPEAKER_10: You could hardly tell the difference.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: It was a long day.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: For you, yeah.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: Long, long couple days, actually.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Just got back from a couple days at our family camp, which is about six hours away.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: Something like that.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: Depending on how fast you drive.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Beautiful weather, really hot.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: I'm sure it was hot up here too.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: Wasn't it?
- 1:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: It was warmish.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Yep, it was it was it was great.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: We had uh we spent all Monday at the lake.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: We spent all Tuesday at the beach.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Well, not all Tuesday, but three hours at the beach, and then the rest of the day at the lake.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: We did some shopping.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: And we just got back, like just minutes ago.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: So I'm a little wasted a little spent.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: Just back.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: So sleep good tonight.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I will.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: Actually, I slept good the past two nights at camp.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: So there you go.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Sunday night I didn't.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Get this.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: So so uh Jude and Kristen, uh, my son and his wife came up from New Hampshire to see us uh Monday night.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: They stayed and left Tuesday morning.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: But when we got down, we got down there Sunday night, and um I don't know if I want to say that my 11-year-old Well, let's just say my 11-year-old ended up sleeping with her mom in the big double bed.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: The the It's not a a queen.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Oh, maybe it's a queen.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Anyway, the bed that my I would normally share with my wife at camp was shared by my wife and my daughter.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: And I kind of gladly gave it up.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: Let's just say that there were sounds that were scaring my 11-year-old.
- 2:21SPEAKER_10: Was there a storm?
- 2:22SPEAKER_10: Nope.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: Just animals and things like that.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: Because it's just a log cabin and it's like a it's not really insulated, and it's just it's it's it's a camp.
- 2:31SPEAKER_10: It's a camp.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: Straight up.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: And so I being a good dad, I said, Oh, you you go ahead and sleep with mom, I'll sleep on the couch.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: We had it we had another room.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: There's another room with two twin beds in it, but I just you know, I'll sleep on the couch.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: No, no big deal.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: So uh we go to bed, I curl up on the couch, and the couch is too short for me.
- 2:52SPEAKER_10: As most couches are.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, I thought that I could kind of fit on it, but but I, you know, I squeezed in and I was in the feudal position.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: I didn't sleep at all that night.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: It was it was rough.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: And woke up the next morning just groggy and you know, didn't I just was in a bad mood because I didn't get any sleep.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: And so that night, Monday night, Jude and Kristen came and I told him, I said, don't sleep on the couch, dude.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: I said, because it's just it's it's pretty rough.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: I didn't I was like, Dad, that's a fold-out couch.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: I said, What?
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it folds out.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: He pulls the whole thing out to a bed, like a full-size bed.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, oh my word.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Oh man.
- 3:39SPEAKER_01: Anyway.
- 3:40SPEAKER_10: Apparently, apparently you've never used it for that function.
- 3:42SPEAKER_10: I have not.
- 3:43SPEAKER_10: So yeah.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: I have not.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: And we haven't been down to like the whole family hasn't been down to camp in four years, five years, four years.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: Uh Teresa and I have gone down a couple times.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: We went down two years ago, I think, for our anniversary.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: And um, but like we were because we have this we have this journal that we write in.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: Like um, because the camp is is owned and run by my wife's cousin.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: And so she keeps it up and she, you know, enjoys it, and then she schedules people to use it and things, things like that.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: And because there's like a party boat and there's a dock, and I mean it's it's just a kind of a cool thing.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: And uh so after we stay there, we write in this journal.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: And so it's like, hey, thanks, thanks for letting us stay.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: You know, you do cleans up, you you know, you it it really are the improvements of the camp are great, you know, just kind of a thank you.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: Oh, sure.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: And so I was looking at it um this morning when I was writing the thank you, and it was like, oh all these people have stayed here.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: And I'm looking back, and of course they're all dated.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I'm like, 2021 is the last time Finn and Eli's name is on here.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: Like, wow, hasn't it really been that long?
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: But yeah, you know, um so 2021 we went down, 2022 we did not.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: 2023 might have been Teresa and I.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: I don't remember.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: Um, and then last year we did not go down.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: So yeah, it was weird.
- 5:16SPEAKER_07: So weird, man.
- 5:17SPEAKER_07: Yeah, great way to start the podcast.
- 5:19SPEAKER_07: Yeah, what on weirdness.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Um so yeah, but that was that was good.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: We got a uh big uh gig coming up this Friday.
- 5:27SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:28SPEAKER_10: Woo!
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: I'm already tired.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: So um I got a I got a text from uh Teresa's aunt.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: She's like, what time are you playing?
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: What what time what when are you playing Fort Fairfield?
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: And I said Friday at 8.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: Because do not come before then.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: Well, she won't like that music anyway.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: What I'm talking about is our band Skinny Elvis is opening the show uh this Friday at the Potato Blossom Festival, and then the Syndicate is playing the rest of the show.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: Um but we we do not play the same music as the syndicate, so yeah.
- 6:07SPEAKER_10: It is night and day.
- 6:07SPEAKER_10: Really, really it is night and day.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: And I'll be interested to see what kind of reaction we get, actually.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: I'm just the whole thing is is kind of interesting to me.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: I just I'm excited.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: The whole dynamics of it.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: The whole dynamic of it.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:19SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 6:19SPEAKER_10: I I because people are gonna see us and be like, oh, the they're in the syndicate.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 6:24SPEAKER_10: And then we start playing red hot chili pepper.
- 6:28SPEAKER_10: And they're like, what is happening?
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 6:31SPEAKER_10: Did I go was I sucked into some kind of time warp or what?
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:35SPEAKER_01: So I'd just be interested to see how the whole thing pans out.
- 6:39SPEAKER_10: Well, you know, you got that crew that always shows up at least two hours.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: If we're playing at eight, they can't they won't show up at until like seven.
- 6:48SPEAKER_10: They'll be there at six.
- 6:49SPEAKER_10: You think so?
- 6:50SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Well, they're gonna get an hour of Well, they're gonna get an interesting hour.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, an interesting hour.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: So complete with least complete with hip hop and hip hop and swearing and nudity, maybe.
- 7:02SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 7:03SPEAKER_10: I don't know what's gonna happen.
- 7:05SPEAKER_10: No idea.
- 7:06SPEAKER_10: Uh no, that's not.
- 7:07SPEAKER_10: What?
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: Nudity?
- 7:08SPEAKER_10: Yeah, well, I hope not.
- 7:09SPEAKER_10: I'm just saying.
- 7:10SPEAKER_10: Just you never know.
- 7:12SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 7:14SPEAKER_10: I wasn't saying any of boss, I'm just saying nudity might happen.
- 7:17SPEAKER_10: We don't know.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:18SPEAKER_10: You know.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: So it'll be fun though.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: I've uh, you know, it's gonna be a long, it'll be a long night.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: Um because and your voice is gonna be roached.
- 7:27SPEAKER_10: Yeah, but I saw the set list that you made for the syndicate.
- 7:30SPEAKER_10: Yeah, and I'm not singing at all the first until the end of the first set.
- 7:35SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 7:35SPEAKER_10: And I said, that's brilliant.
- 7:37SPEAKER_10: Thank you so much.
- 7:38SPEAKER_10: So I wasn't I sent that thought through the universe.
- 7:42SPEAKER_10: I don't know if you got it.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, um the funny thing is is Morton emailed me the list.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: He had started it.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: Actually, no, he had he had done it.
- 7:51SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah, he did say that, yeah.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: And he said, I'm gonna send and he sent this, you know, with these are our parameters, and you know, we've got some people that aren't gonna be able to make it, and Doug's voice is gonna be roached, and this and this and this.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: He says, I'm struggling.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: I don't like the way it is right now.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: Can you look at it?
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: And I did, and I took out probably four or five songs and put in four or five other songs.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: Other than that, and that and then I moved songs around.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: Other than that, I mean the set list, he made the set list.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: I just I just kind of tweaked it.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: Tweaked it a little bit.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: Um, I I looked at it.
- 8:25SPEAKER_10: I I went into KMH yesterday and uh he showed it to me and I was like, Oh yes, that's yeah, that's perfect.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: And you you don't sing to the end, but you also don't have a whole lot, I don't think.
- 8:35SPEAKER_10: Well, second I was looking through the second set and I was like, because you got like three or four for me to sing.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:41SPEAKER_10: So I should be fine by then, but it's still, you know, this is just that first one I was like, Yeah, you need a break.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:48SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna be I'm gonna be sleeping behind the stage.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:50SPEAKER_10: You're not gonna see me.
- 8:52SPEAKER_10: Just warn everybody.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:54SPEAKER_10: So I'll get my uh cases and just curl up.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: You probably could too, you know.
- 9:02SPEAKER_10: Who's gonna tell me I can't?
- 9:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah, but you know what?
- 9:04SPEAKER_10: How dare you?
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: The energy would be different if you weren't there.
- 9:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah, probably.
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: It would be it would be a lot different.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: So you need to be there.
- 9:10SPEAKER_09: I gotta go.
- 9:11SPEAKER_09: I gotta be there.
- 9:12SPEAKER_09: I gotta make the donuts.
- 9:16SPEAKER_09: Um I gotta sing the song.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: Let's see, what else?
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: What else happened uh since our last uh podcast?
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Well, we played at uh Northern Maine Brewing.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: We did, and that was pretty cool.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: That was fun.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: I didn't tell you that.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: There was uh because we played out on the pat the piadio.
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: Uh we're fancy.
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: And get this.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: There were tent covers for us.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: Uh we had our own little, you know, pop-up tent there thing.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Most uh most club owners or whatever don't think of that stuff.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: No, they just You're gonna play outside.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: And don't care.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: And you know, we I was thinking about this today because as we were coming home, I saw Kyle um leaving work and getting on his motorcycle and going home.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: And I told because I told my wife that story about Kyle and his wife.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: And uh I said, you know that guy I told you about?
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: That was him.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: And so so let me let me go back because I tell stories terribly.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: So when we were playing Northern Main Brewing Company, um uh man named Kyle and his wife Shannon came in and they were eating their meal, and uh we were just kind of ribbing him.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: We're we go back a long way.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: And we were just kind of giving him a hard time and teasing him through the on the microphone, and it and it was making people laugh.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: You know, it was it was fun, it was good natured.
- 10:42SPEAKER_01: And uh so I was thinking about it when I saw him, I told my wife, I said, That's the guy that I was teasing at the bar the other night.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: And I said, you know, I have his kids as students in music.
- 11:00SPEAKER_10: You got all three?
- 11:01SPEAKER_01: I I did not have his oldest.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: Uh, I don't think.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: I'm pretty sure, no.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: I had I had Logan and I had and I still have uh because Logan's now in at Ziple and I still have Luke, but I did not have Jackson.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: So anyway, I have his kids in music class at the elementary school.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: And then I got to thinking there was a time when I was a long-term sub for Pat Bragdon in Mars Hill for one semester, and I had Kyle.
- 11:37SPEAKER_10: I was like, oh well when I was working there in the special ed, Kyle was there at the same time.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: In the school, at the same time.
- 11:48SPEAKER_10: Yeah, so I I I I I didn't have Kyle, but I knew of Kyle.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: I had Kyle, and Kyle was Kyle was a lot like his kids are.
- 11:55SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 11:56SPEAKER_10: Kyle was always full of energy.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: Always full of energy.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, great kid, yeah.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: Sweet kid, but he was full of energy.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: He was uh I don't want to say trouble.
- 12:06SPEAKER_01: No.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: He wasn't trouble, but he challenged you.
- 12:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah, he was he was like you said, he was energetic.
- 12:13SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but that was that made me feel feel really old.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: Because I'm riding in the car in the van on the way back from from camp tonight because my daughter got car sick and she so anyway, so I'm in I'm in the back and uh I'm telling that story, and I'm like, holy cow.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: I had him as a student.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: It's like, oh, you now you know you've now you know you're old.
- 12:36SPEAKER_10: Well, I've known his wife since she was probably ten because her father and her brother took karate.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 12:47SPEAKER_10: You know, I was like I was an upper belt, but they started, so I used to teach them and she used to come to the class.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:52SPEAKER_10: And then she came to ATLC and was on staff for uh quite a few years.
- 12:57SPEAKER_10: He just died, didn't he?
- 12:58SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 12:59SPEAKER_10: Yes, that's what I thought.
- 13:00SPEAKER_10: Yeah, cancer.
- 13:00SPEAKER_10: Cancer.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: And and he didn't live around here anymore, I think.
- 13:04SPEAKER_10: No, they were in Louisiana.
- 13:05SPEAKER_10: Yeah, something like that.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: No, I've known her mom uh for a long time.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: Anyway, what this is what are we talking about?
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: This is reminiscing now.
- 13:13SPEAKER_01: Reminiscing, I guess.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: Um how how oh, so the gig.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and and the other cool thing about this gig that we played.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: As so we're talking to Joko's parents out in the parking lot getting ready to leave, and I was about to go back in and get paid.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: But she came out to pay us.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: And she's like, Do you guys want some food on us?
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: I'm like, Doug, um, they're gonna feed us.
- 13:41SPEAKER_01: I was like, sweet.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: So we had some amazing food.
- 13:45SPEAKER_01: It was really, really good.
- 13:47SPEAKER_01: And we're we're saying to ourselves, this doesn't happen very often.
- 13:51SPEAKER_01: No, we get free food.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: That was awesome, man.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: And it was so good.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: It was so good.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: And and uh I forgot her name.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: Carly.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: Carlin Carly.
- 14:02SPEAKER_10: Carly, something, yeah.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: The bar, I think bar manager maybe.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: I assume so.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:06SPEAKER_10: It wasn't your contact.
- 14:07SPEAKER_10: No.
- 14:07SPEAKER_10: The one that got us the gig.
- 14:08SPEAKER_01: No, it wasn't.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: I don't know who she was, but you know.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: Was she even there?
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: She wasn't there.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, maybe she works in an office somewhere or something.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 14:16SPEAKER_10: Or maybe it was just she works during the day or something.
- 14:18SPEAKER_10: Could be, yeah.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: Yep, could be.
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: But the bar manager, or at least the acting bar manager that night, she was very nice to us.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: And uh I'd play there again.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: Heck yeah.
- 14:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: I hope they do.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 14:28SPEAKER_10: Hope they call us, man.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 14:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it was sweet.
- 14:30SPEAKER_09: Um what else?
- 14:33SPEAKER_09: Excuse me while I go.
- 14:39SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, we had uh rehearsal.
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: I want to do this.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: So we had rehearsal um for what was it a rehearsal for?
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: Skinny.
- 14:51SPEAKER_07: Skinny Ellis.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:53SPEAKER_01: Um last week and we um we electrocuted ourselves.
- 15:04SPEAKER_10: It was really fun.
- 15:06SPEAKER_10: Um We really got a charge out of it.
- 15:11SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: And Chris Morton gave me a 45 record.
- 15:16SPEAKER_01: He said it was a record.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: A record.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: It was uh a gift to the podcast, he said.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: And the reason it was a gift to the podcast was because I should read it, shouldn't I?
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:27unknown: Uh before I play it.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: Um It is on Star City Records.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: Now you might be thinking to yourself, well, that could be anywhere.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: That could be like in Louisiana or California or something like that.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: And you're right, it could be.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Could be.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Um, but I think it's local because just because of the title of that one song.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: Woman of the Hainesville Woods.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: Which is Maine.
- 15:53SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Gary Cochran.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: Uh the song uh Woman of the Hainesville Woods was written by Gary Cochrane on the flip side, the B side, if you will, is Million Dollar Hands, also by Gary Cochrane.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: Now, this is from 1983, and um we're just assuming it was made in Northern Maine because it's Star City Records.
- 16:17SPEAKER_10: Well, I'm you know what?
- 16:18SPEAKER_10: I'm gonna Google.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: That's a good idea.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: Um What was the name of the song?
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: Um Woman of the Hainesville Woods by Gary Cochran.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna put that on my little record player.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: They spell Haineswood.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: They spelled it H-A-Y-N-E-S-V-I-L-L-E.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: Hainesville.
- 16:43SPEAKER_10: Hainesville.
- 16:44SPEAKER_10: I wonder if you just look at Gary Cochrane.
- 16:46SPEAKER_10: Do you know how Google like predicts what yeah?
- 16:50SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 16:50SPEAKER_10: The first one is Hainesville Massacre.
- 16:53SPEAKER_10: Oh my god.
- 16:53SPEAKER_10: Hainesville disaster.
- 16:55SPEAKER_10: Hainesville fire.
- 16:57SPEAKER_10: Hainesville ISID.
- 16:59SPEAKER_10: All right.
- 17:00SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 17:01SPEAKER_10: Of the woman of the Hainesville Woods, correct?
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 17:05SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: I'm curious if there's anything on here.
- 17:10SPEAKER_10: Oh, okay.
- 17:10SPEAKER_10: Here it is.
- 17:12SPEAKER_10: Uh the legend of the woman of the Hainesville Woods refers to a female figure often described as a ghostly hitchhiker or bride who is said to haunt the Hainesville Woods area of Maine.
- 17:22SPEAKER_10: This area, specifically around along Route 2A, is known for its history of accidents and isolation, leading to stories of paranormal encounters.
- 17:32SPEAKER_10: The legends include a ghost bride who perished on her wedding day and a phantom hitchhiker.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 17:39SPEAKER_10: So that's what it is.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: I'm just curious.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: I want to Google while I'm right here.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: Star City Records.
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: This says Star City Records is in Sacramento, California.
- 17:56SPEAKER_10: Now the song doesn't come up.
- 17:58SPEAKER_10: The only song that comes up is uh Tombstone Every Mile.
- 18:01SPEAKER_10: Which is also about to be a little bit more.
- 18:02SPEAKER_10: Which is also about the hairs of all.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: I should have done this before.
- 18:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah, the the song doesn't come up anywhere.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: So no, I've got um I've got nothing coming up on here either.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: Um Star City Records label releases on Discogs.com.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: 1980s sole label from Houston, Texas.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: Oh Houston.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: Looks like it.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: Um let me go.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: Are there certain filters I can put in here?
- 18:45SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: I don't think I can look for an artist though.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: The androids.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: Vice versa, Scott Gertner, new toys.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: Only there's only six artists according to this.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: Um but again, that could be a different, completely different thing.
- 19:03SPEAKER_01: Could be, yeah.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna take a listen to this.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: Um and we're not gonna play it through the computer, we're just gonna play it in the room here.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: In the speakers, and we'll see what it's uh how it sounds.
- 19:14SPEAKER_10: It'll sound more it'll sound it'll sound like old timey.
- 19:17SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 19:17SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 19:17SPEAKER_10: Put the needle on the record.
- 19:18SPEAKER_10: Put the needle on the record.
- 19:19SPEAKER_10: Here I go.
- 19:21SPEAKER_09: Here I go.
- 19:39SPEAKER_05: We rode down through the Haysville woods.
- 19:44SPEAKER_05: When there before me in the night, a very good she got it, and she said to me, Just be going down the road, he stepped up a skin of she as sea.
- 20:10SPEAKER_05: And so we went on, she asked me, Will you do a teat for me?
- 20:17SPEAKER_05: Will you go to my grandpa's house?
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: Do we want to listen to the whole thing?
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: Probably not.
- 20:31unknown: I am just fine.
- 20:33SPEAKER_10: Well, I mean, it's it's one of those uh old story songs, right?
- 20:36SPEAKER_10: Which is cool.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: But I'm assuming it's the story that you know we know we know the end of the story.
- 20:42SPEAKER_10: Right, exactly.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: It's a ghost.
- 20:44SPEAKER_01: It's a ghost, right.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: But this is, I mean, that's your classic country, right?
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:56SPEAKER_10: I can s I can see why it was made in uh in in Houston.
- 20:59SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 21:00SPEAKER_10: It's straight up country.
- 21:01SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah.
- 21:02SPEAKER_10: Straight up.
- 21:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah, which is great.
- 21:04SPEAKER_10: Which is cool.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: Uh so that's uh Gary Cochran on Star City Records.
- 21:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I mean, you must not have never done anything because you can't I Googled.
- 21:13SPEAKER_10: Can't find anything about it.
- 21:14SPEAKER_10: I googled him and only the Hainesville Woods, that's the only thing you can find.
- 21:17SPEAKER_01: So And this was in 1983, so he sounded kind of old there.
- 21:24SPEAKER_10: Yeah, he's gotta be long.
- 21:25SPEAKER_01: Something tells me that Gary Cochran's not with us anymore.
- 21:29SPEAKER_10: He's now one of the ghosts.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: Right, exactly.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: Um, all right, now more our speed.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: Um I want to hear some new music from uh Mammoth, which is Wolfgang Van Haden.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: Worphy.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: Uh I sent this in the in the thread to you boys um because I watched it.
- 21:47SPEAKER_01: Of course, he the the song The End, which was great.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: The video was even better uh for The End.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: Um gonna be on his new album, which is the name of his new album.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: The End, which comes out, I think.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: I think in October.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: Pretty sure it was.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: I think I think so.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: I thought it was sooner than that.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: Oh read it.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: It's right here.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Let's see.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: The 10-track, 39-minute long album once again finds Wolfgang operating in one man band mode, performing all the instruments and vocals himself.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: Uh October 24th.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: Is when it comes out.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: Uh and he had said, of course I'm I'm riding in the car, so that's why I saw when I saw this.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: He had said on his Instagram page, he says, Boy, you know, what w I originally intended for this to be a lyric video, which is a thing.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: Where they just you know a band puts out a song and somebody makes a video with the lyrics to the song.
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: It's a cheap way to to kind of put a video up.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: And but he went the extra step and and performed every instrument, which he does does on the album.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: And so that's what the video is, is him playing all the instruments.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: But the song is and I I think what I said in the thread you can probably agree with.
- 22:57SPEAKER_01: It's official.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: Uh Wolfie is the most talented Van Halen.
- 23:01SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 23:02SPEAKER_10: No doubt.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: Because I think I think Eddie probably could play drums, but not very well.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: Well, that's what he started on.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: But I mean, uh you know, Alex probably plays a little guitar, but not like anything like that.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because they switched.
- 23:14SPEAKER_10: That's how they started.
- 23:15SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: But but Eddie can't sing.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: No.
- 23:19SPEAKER_01: Alex can't sing.
- 23:20SPEAKER_01: No.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: Um Wolfie can play guitar, bass, drums, sing very well, and I'm assuming he could probably play keyboards too.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: I'm sure.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: I mean his dad can.
- 23:30SPEAKER_10: I've never seen him do it, but I'm sure he can.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: I'm sure he does.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: Uh so this is the spell from Mammoth, which is a new single from the album that comes out October 24th.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: I just I love his voice.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: It's a pure voice.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: It's not a screamer.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: It's it's I don't know.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: It's just clear and pure.
- 25:06SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, I I dig it.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: I think that album's gonna be I mean both the other albums.
- 25:21SPEAKER_10: Both the other ones are great.
- 25:22SPEAKER_10: Pretty pretty good.
- 25:22SPEAKER_10: You know this one's gonna be great too.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so October 24th is when uh Mammoth, which he essentially has dropped WVH from it.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you know.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: Well, I think I think there was a there was a um Was there a copyright thing?
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: A legal thing, I think.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: Um but actually I I read that somewhere and I can't remember when and where I read that.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: Uh but it and it was recent.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: It was very recent that he dropped the the W V H.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: Um ten tracks.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: October 24th.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: Uh I'm excited.
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: I think it's gonna be 2 New music from Mammoth.
- 26:01SPEAKER_01: New music from Wolfgang Van Halen.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: We're gonna get it.
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: Uh alright, so yeah, you said you had you've been going down some rabbit holes.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: Which we kind of just did a little bit of.
- 26:12SPEAKER_10: We do that a lot.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: We do.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: So what what are you talking about?
- 26:14SPEAKER_10: Well, so I was I got on YouTube today, and you know those thumbnails, you know, you just kind of scroll through.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:22SPEAKER_10: And one from Rick Beato said, This art this new artist sucks.
- 26:26SPEAKER_10: I was like, Man, that doesn't sound like Rick.
- 26:29SPEAKER_10: He doesn't he doesn't do that.
- 26:30SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 26:31SPEAKER_10: So I I clicked on it, it was him.
- 26:33SPEAKER_10: Well, what he'd done is he created a artist on AI.
- 26:36SPEAKER_10: Right, because he was talking about remember that band?
- 26:38SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 26:39SPEAKER_01: Uh Velvet Something.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Velvet Sundown or something like that.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, something like that.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: He talked about that and and established that it was AI, and then they eventually they came out, a spokesperson for them came out and said, Yes, it was AI.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: It was an experiment.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: It was a hoax or a chance.
- 26:53SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you can't you can't and they got half a million visit uh listeners listeners on Spotify.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: So he created his own.
- 27:00SPEAKER_10: He created his own like uh what was his the name?
- 27:02SPEAKER_10: Eric Mercer or something like that.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:04SPEAKER_10: And he had him and he created a song for him.
- 27:08SPEAKER_10: And I was just he and he literally just did it all like right there.
- 27:11SPEAKER_10: And I was like, what the frig, man?
- 27:13SPEAKER_10: So I was so I watched that and then there was what else did I he he got he then of course there was you know because when you click on a video it gives you like other thumbnails.
- 27:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 27:25SPEAKER_10: Another one was it was Rick Beato again.
- 27:28SPEAKER_10: Yacht rock is BS.
- 27:30SPEAKER_10: And I was like, what is going on with Rick lately?
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 27:34SPEAKER_10: Well, he doesn't like the the genre term yacht rock, and he explained why.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:40SPEAKER_10: So I thought that was interesting.
- 27:42SPEAKER_10: And then what else did I oh because I wrote it down because it was really because it was a weird rabbit hole, so I had to like you know find my way back out of it.
- 27:51SPEAKER_10: So, um, where did it go?
- 27:53SPEAKER_10: Okay, and then and then he was talking about Mr.
- 27:56SPEAKER_10: Beast.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:58SPEAKER_10: He had never heard of Prince.
- 27:59SPEAKER_10: He was on Theo Vaughn.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: Mr.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: Beast has never heard of Prince.
- 28:02SPEAKER_10: Never heard of Prince because they were talking about something Mr.
- 28:05SPEAKER_10: Beast had like a purple cow or something on one of his things.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:09SPEAKER_10: And Theo Vaughn was like, yeah, I wonder if you could get Prince to endorse it if he was still and and he was like, who?
- 28:16SPEAKER_10: And Theo Vaughn, you could see him, he was literally like, right?
- 28:20SPEAKER_10: How do you not know who Prince is?
- 28:21SPEAKER_10: And Rick Beato was like, How do you not know who Prince is?
- 28:24SPEAKER_10: You know, so he went on this whole thing about that.
- 28:25SPEAKER_13: Yeah.
- 28:26SPEAKER_10: So anyway, after I got out that rabbit hole, I looked down and I see this.
- 28:30SPEAKER_10: I'd never I'd never heard of this page before.
- 28:33SPEAKER_10: This this channel called Wings of Pegasus.
- 28:36SPEAKER_10: Oh no, I've I've heard of Taylor.
- 28:38SPEAKER_10: Okay, I've never heard of him before.
- 28:39SPEAKER_10: Oh yes.
- 28:40SPEAKER_10: And he was talking about, and it was like something about Taylor Swift.
- 28:44SPEAKER_10: So of course I had to read it because I was like, I bet this is negative.
- 28:48SPEAKER_10: I'm into that.
- 28:50SPEAKER_10: So he was going on about how he believes Taylor Swift was lip-syncing her entire tour.
- 29:00SPEAKER_10: He took shows, he took like a there was a trailer for a song for for her for her Ares tour.
- 29:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 29:08SPEAKER_10: He compared it to her playing in the UK, Portugal, and Japan.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: And it was exactly the same.
- 29:15SPEAKER_10: It was exactly the same.
- 29:16SPEAKER_10: He had a uh pitch corrector or something like that, and was showing everything um on the on the on the thing, and he was comparing it, he was like, Yeah, she was lip syncing the whole thing.
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 29:29SPEAKER_10: And I was like, whoa.
- 29:31SPEAKER_10: And then so that led to another video, Wings of Pegasus again, yeah, talking about Ken Tamplin.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 29:39SPEAKER_10: And how he did the same thing.
- 29:40SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 29:40SPEAKER_10: But Ken Tamplin was like, oh well, I was singing this live, and and and Phil was like, no, you didn't.
- 29:48SPEAKER_10: And then of course Ken Tamplin made a video tagging him in it.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 29:53SPEAKER_10: You know, about, oh well, you know, all these haters and stuff.
- 29:56SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I used some back and tracks, and it was like, and the g and the fell and Phil was like, Well, yeah, we understand, we know, we just proved it.
- 30:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 30:03SPEAKER_10: Just be honest about it.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:04SPEAKER_10: You can't hit those notes anymore.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:06SPEAKER_10: He was using he was he he compared a uh track he had done like in 2020.
- 30:13SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 30:13SPEAKER_10: And then a live performance like four years later.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:16SPEAKER_10: And he was like, Yeah, you you're you're just singing part he was like, part of it, part of it was live.
- 30:21SPEAKER_10: You were singing part of it live.
- 30:22SPEAKER_10: Sure.
- 30:23SPEAKER_10: And then but there was another part, you were just lip singing it.
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:26SPEAKER_10: But can't, you know, but Ken Tamplin came up with this video that was like, oh no, I we don't do that around here.
- 30:31SPEAKER_10: And then he was just like, Yeah, you can't believe fake news, and you gotta think for yourself, and it's like that.
- 30:36SPEAKER_10: And Phil was just like, Yeah, that's what I said.
- 30:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 30:40SPEAKER_01: Well, here's the thing, too.
- 30:42SPEAKER_01: Have you ever seen uh those videos where they're where there's three singers and they're like in a kitchen, okay, and maybe the girl is sitting on the counter and there's two guys standing up, and then they harm they start singing this song, and the harmony is perfect.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: And they're doing it in the kitchen because it sounds so good and the acoustics are so good, and it's beautiful.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: I mean it's amazing.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: The harmony is is perfect.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: They're lip syncing to it.
- 31:11SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying they didn't sing it originally, right?
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: Like they sang it in a recording studio, right?
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: But probably a cappella.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:19SPEAKER_01: And it was it's you know, they made it sound really good and they're very, very talented.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: But when they make the video to promote it or to uh gotcha, you know, uh people that are watching, they're lip syncing to it.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: They're lip syncing to themselves.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 31:36SPEAKER_01: Which is what Cam Tampland was doing because he's trying to sell his vocal course.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: He sang it, sure.
- 31:42SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah, and and Phil was like, Yeah, I'm not I'm not denying you can't sing.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:46SPEAKER_10: I'm just saying you're you're singing to a backing track.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 31:49SPEAKER_10: And you're and you're not admitting that you are.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:52SPEAKER_10: You know, that yeah, you're you're you're you're saying you're doing it all live.
- 31:55SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 31:56SPEAKER_10: I'm saying you're doing part of it live, but some of it's backing track.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: Well, it's like music videos.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, back in the 80s when they made music videos, they're not singing those, they're lip syncing to them.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: And I'm sure that everybody's doing it now.
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: Everybody.
- 32:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah, especially I mean, especially with I mean I totally get, you know, I wanted to like bag on Taylor Swift.
- 32:14SPEAKER_10: I was like, Yeah, yeah.
- 32:15SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah, you're fake.
- 32:17SPEAKER_10: I totally get it, but you can't do that night after night and sing at that.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: Permitable, yeah.
- 32:23SPEAKER_10: You can't do it.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 32:25SPEAKER_10: I mean, that tour was what, two years?
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 32:27SPEAKER_10: Something like that?
- 32:28SPEAKER_10: You can't do that afterwards.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: I just saw footage of um the backstreet boys at the sphere in Las Vegas.
- 32:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: And I'm not saying the backstreet boys can't sing.
- 32:39SPEAKER_10: No, they can.
- 32:40SPEAKER_01: They can.
- 32:40SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: Uh I guarantee you they're lip syncing.
- 32:44SPEAKER_10: Oh, if if they're dancing and singing, you know they're singing too about it.
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: Guaranteed.
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: You know it.
- 32:49SPEAKER_01: I know their mics are probably live.
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: But they're lip syncing.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:52SPEAKER_01: And then talking to the audience and lip syncing.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:54SPEAKER_10: You know, I I totally get it.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: That's that's the case.
- 32:56SPEAKER_10: Just be I th Phil's whole thing was just be honest about it.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:00SPEAKER_10: And then and then, of course, that led to another rabbit hole where it was still Wings of Pegasus, but it was an entertainment lawyer.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 33:09SPEAKER_10: She does copyright laws and, you know, stuff for the music industry.
- 33:12SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 33:13SPEAKER_10: He was he was talking about this guy that just makes these he takes like America's Got Talent, the set, yeah.
- 33:21SPEAKER_10: And like shows it, and then he inserts himself into it.
- 33:25SPEAKER_10: Have you seen this guy?
- 33:26SPEAKER_10: He's like Filipino or something.
- 33:28SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 33:28SPEAKER_10: And he and he's got like four or five different channels, so he knows that, you know, if this one gets taken down, these other four are still gonna be, you know.
- 33:36SPEAKER_10: And he's got like millions of views and subscribed.
- 33:40SPEAKER_10: That's how people make money now.
- 33:41SPEAKER_10: And he's got his wife into it.
- 33:42SPEAKER_10: He proved it by because he he he it was like this random thing where it was his birthday or something, and there's his wife, he grew, and then he shows a video of her doing the exact same thing.
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:52SPEAKER_10: But he was like, you know, this is you can't do that because that's copyrighted.
- 33:55SPEAKER_10: That's America's Got Talent set, and you're using it, and you're not on it.
- 33:58SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 33:59SPEAKER_10: Like it because the title's like Simon Cow cries at performance of blah blah blah, you know?
- 34:04SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 34:04SPEAKER_10: And you can tell the guy's like lip sync, because there's one of them, he's holding his baby at the same time.
- 34:09SPEAKER_10: I'm like, dude, that's not even real.
- 34:10SPEAKER_10: Come on, who's falling for this?
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: And then you get all the the judges' reactions and the audience reactions, and they're yeah, and they're all like that.
- 34:17SPEAKER_10: You're like, you're like, this is obviously fake.
- 34:20SPEAKER_10: I mean, I'm no, I'm not a smart guy, but I I even I know that's fake.
- 34:24SPEAKER_10: Come on, man.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: One of my favorite is uh there's a guy that in inserts himself into the view.
- 34:30SPEAKER_01: Have you ever seen that?
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: It's like the some one of the ladies on the view will will say something, and then he'll it'll go to him, like on their set, and he's like counter arguing with her.
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: It's pretty great.
- 34:42SPEAKER_01: And she and her reaction is just kind of like it's it's pretty great.
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: It's pretty great.
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: Go back going back to uh Prince, you were talking about Prince, uh and not knowing Prince's music or who Prince was.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: Uh so we had that same uh discussion uh this weekend or this while we were away at camp.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: She knows of Prince because we talk about him.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: You know.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: But she had said, Dad, can you play me?
- 35:12SPEAKER_01: And I say this, my daughter, because my daughter's sitting right here.
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: So she said, Dad, can you play me some Prince music?
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: And I said, Well, yeah, sure.
- 35:22SPEAKER_01: I'm sure you know it.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: I'm sure you know some of it.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: So I think I started with 1999.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: She was like, No, I've never heard of this.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 35:31SPEAKER_01: Um Raspberry Bray.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: Nope, I've never heard of this.
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: I think I went to Did you go to Purple Rain at all?
- 35:40SPEAKER_01: I didn't go to Purple Rain.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: I didn't do Let's Go Crazy.
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: She hadn't heard that.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: And I said, Oh, I know one you'll know.
- 35:47SPEAKER_01: Kiss.
- 35:49SPEAKER_01: So I start playing it.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: She's like, I don't know.
- 35:53SPEAKER_01: I've never heard this, but it's awful.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: And I was like, you can't say that.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: It's not awful.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: But I mean, maybe to her it is.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: She's just not, you know, she she doesn't have the preconceived notion of who Prince is and why that song was pretty cool.
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: You know, or anything like that.
- 36:13SPEAKER_01: So I mean that's that's a matter of taste.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah you know, but she she had never heard any Prince music.
- 36:18SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I'm not I'm not surprised.
- 36:19SPEAKER_10: I mean, he's been dead for what?
- 36:20SPEAKER_10: Almost ten years now.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I mean he's on the radio still.
- 36:23SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah, I know, but you know and that was another thing I was what was I It was probably somewhere in that rabbit hole I was watching another video about how Oh it was it was Rick Beatle again.
- 36:34SPEAKER_10: He was saying like there are no genres anymore.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:38SPEAKER_10: There were genres, you know, like like nineties was grunge and he's like now, what there's no genre now, it's just people just make a a song.
- 36:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:50SPEAKER_10: They don't really make albums anymore.
- 36:51SPEAKER_10: So so you really can't and it's it's a hodgepodge of a different like sound, you know, different musical styles.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 36:58SPEAKER_10: So what do you call it?
- 36:59SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 37:00SPEAKER_10: And I was like, Wow, that's a good point.
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: Is it all pop now?
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: Because pop is short for popular.
- 37:04SPEAKER_10: I think yeah, I think he was just like I think he just called it post post pop millennials or something like that.
- 37:11SPEAKER_10: He came up with just just random torn uh term, and just like I was like, well, yeah.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: He's not wrong.
- 37:17SPEAKER_01: You just reminded me of something that I I I wasn't gonna listen to, I wasn't going to explore, but now I am.
- 37:24SPEAKER_01: Uh just because we were talking about it.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: And I don't know any m music by Jojo Seawall.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: Do you know any music by Jojo?
- 37:32SPEAKER_10: I have no clue.
- 37:33SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 37:34SPEAKER_10: I barely know who she is.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 37:36SPEAKER_01: So she's she's pretty popular.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: She's you know, um so she has a song out.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: Um oh wait, is this the same song?
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 37:48SPEAKER_01: Oh no, she does.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: It is a cover.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: Uh Kim Carnes, Betty Davis Eyes.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: You know that song.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: Uh let me let me play that for you here.
- 37:57SPEAKER_01: This is the original.
- 37:58SPEAKER_04: This is the original.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: Great song.
- 38:12SPEAKER_12: Her hair is hollow, gold.
- 38:17SPEAKER_12: Sweet surprise.
- 38:21SPEAKER_12: Her hands are never cold.
- 38:24SPEAKER_12: She's got baddy Davis.
- 38:27SPEAKER_12: She'll turn the music on you.
- 38:31SPEAKER_12: You won't have to think twice.
- 38:35SPEAKER_12: She's Pure's New York snow.
- 38:39SPEAKER_12: She got baddy Davis.
- 38:43SPEAKER_01: Alright, that's all I'm gonna play for there.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: So before I played Jojo Siwa's version, um, that went to number one in in 1981 for like five weeks.
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: Uh she car Kim Carnes said she had been concerned when she heard the two versions overlapped, describing Jojo Siwa's performance as too close to her own.
- 39:05SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 39:06SPEAKER_01: Um she had previously posted and deleted a social media message noting there was a difference between simply singing a song and embodying it.
- 39:15SPEAKER_01: I've always believed authenticity is what makes music timeless.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: I'm forever grateful to be the voice behind this one.
- 39:22SPEAKER_01: Uh she told TMZ, when I first saw my original performance played side by side and then layered on top of a new version, the phrasing, the tone, even the little inflections, it felt a bit too close.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: The business can be brutal, and I strongly reject the kind of hate and personal attacks I've seen online, whether directed at me, Jojo Siwa, or anyone else.
- 39:40SPEAKER_01: That kind of behavior doesn't belong in music or anywhere.
- 39:43SPEAKER_01: So essentially I think what she's saying is Jojo Siwa just basically did it almost note for note.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, which yeah.
- 39:53SPEAKER_10: So it's basically a cover.
- 39:59SPEAKER_11: Her hair is high log.
- 40:03SPEAKER_11: Her lips sweet.
- 40:08SPEAKER_11: Her hands are never the cold.
- 40:11SPEAKER_11: She's got better days besides You all have the big fight.
- 40:22SPEAKER_11: Y'all is no y'all.
- 40:26SPEAKER_11: She's got better day in the side.
- 40:45SPEAKER_01: So it's not exactly the same.
- 40:46SPEAKER_01: No, I mean it's you can tell that her performance, like her vocal performance, is just like in carn.
- 40:54SPEAKER_10: It's similar, yeah.
- 40:54SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 40:55SPEAKER_10: But the music is and the music's similar.
- 40:57SPEAKER_10: But you you can do that, you just can't claim it's your song.
- 41:02SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 41:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 41:04SPEAKER_10: Because that's another thing I learned from watching this lawyer.
- 41:07SPEAKER_10: She said that you can you can cover songs, and it's okay.
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:12SPEAKER_10: But you can't pass it off as your own.
- 41:15SPEAKER_10: You have to you have to acknowledge the original.
- 41:18SPEAKER_10: The original song.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 41:20SPEAKER_10: Because, you know, you know, people have got to get paid.
- 41:23SPEAKER_10: So royalties have to be paid out.
- 41:25SPEAKER_10: You can't, like if Joe Jojo Steela, if she went and said, Oh, this is my new song I wrote.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she's definitely Or even this is my new song, Betty Davidson.
- 41:37SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 41:37SPEAKER_10: If she did that, well you can't you can't do that.
- 41:40SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 41:40SPEAKER_10: That's a that's a clear violation of copyright.
- 41:43SPEAKER_01: She has to say something to the effect of, This is my new cover.
- 41:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah, exactly.
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: Kim Carnes' song.
- 41:48SPEAKER_10: This is my version of Betty, you know, Kim Carnes's song.
- 41:53SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 41:53SPEAKER_01: So the song was actually written by Donna Weiss and Jackie DeShannon uh back in 1974, believe it or not.
- 42:00SPEAKER_01: Um Jackie DeShannon recorded it first.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah, and you know, it is modern, more modern than Kim Carnes with the the production and everything.
- 42:10SPEAKER_10: Yeah, but it it's very similar.
- 42:12SPEAKER_10: It's very similar.
- 42:12SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I can see where Kim Carnes is coming from.
- 42:14SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's yeah, and and and it's more like an homage.
- 42:17SPEAKER_01: She said if you you play them on top of each other, it they line right up.
- 42:21SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'm sure.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: So I'm sure that they did that.
- 42:24SPEAKER_10: I'm sure that was completely deliberate.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm sure it was too.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I I wasn't gonna do that, but we were talking about legal things.
- 42:32SPEAKER_10: That's perfectly what we were talking about.
- 42:33SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 42:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 42:34SPEAKER_07: It fits, man.
- 42:34SPEAKER_07: Thanks, man.
- 42:35SPEAKER_07: It's almost like we planned it.
- 42:37SPEAKER_07: We didn't, though.
- 42:38SPEAKER_07: There's a lot in this podcast so far.
- 42:40SPEAKER_07: Podcast by accident that we haven't planned.
- 42:43SPEAKER_07: So, anyway.
- 42:45SPEAKER_10: That's that'll be the title this week.
- 42:46SPEAKER_10: Hey, we accidentally did a podcast.
- 42:51SPEAKER_01: Um this isn't an accidental though, right?
- 42:53SPEAKER_10: Nah, this is real.
- 42:55SPEAKER_10: You ready for this, Myra?
- 42:58SPEAKER_10: You know what it is?
- 43:04SPEAKER_07: Get that look off.
- 43:06SPEAKER_09: I'm used to it.
- 43:08SPEAKER_09: I don't know what you're talking about.
- 43:10SPEAKER_09: Dog's weird.
- 43:13SPEAKER_01: Alright, so we're gonna do the past, present, and future.
- 43:18SPEAKER_10: Alright, let me find out what our awesome and lovely judge said.
- 43:26SPEAKER_10: Uh that's dude.
- 43:29SPEAKER_10: We gotta find uh right there.
- 43:34SPEAKER_10: Okay, so basically, short and sweet, but uh she said this week was hard.
- 43:41SPEAKER_10: All really epic songs and even better.
- 43:43SPEAKER_07: I didn't remember what was the question you remember.
- 43:47SPEAKER_10: You don't need the guitar all the solos, that's right.
- 43:50SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 43:51SPEAKER_10: Um all really epic songs and even better guitar parks, but I had to go with Cowboys from Hell by Pantera.
- 43:57SPEAKER_01: So interesting.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: So that was good on
- 44:00SPEAKER_10: Cousin Larry.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: Cousin Larry.
- 44:01SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 44:03SPEAKER_01: This week.
- 44:04SPEAKER_10: Okay, this week.
- 44:06SPEAKER_10: Let's read the question.
- 44:08SPEAKER_10: Your parents wanted you to be the next great concert pianist, but all you want to do is rock and freak and roll.
- 44:15SPEAKER_10: What song describes the reason you left Beethoven's music and picked up a fender stratocaster?
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 44:22SPEAKER_01: And Cousin Larry says.
- 44:25SPEAKER_10: Cousin Larry.
- 44:26SPEAKER_10: Oh, Cousin Larry sent me this uh thing in the mail.
- 44:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 44:29SPEAKER_10: I got it the other day.
- 44:31SPEAKER_10: It's a it's this big.
- 44:34SPEAKER_10: It's a little drum set, like a Lego drum set you have to put together.
- 44:38SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 44:39SPEAKER_10: It's got like 400 pieces, and you get a, you know.
- 44:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 44:42SPEAKER_01: Did you do it?
- 44:42SPEAKER_10: I haven't done it yet.
- 44:44SPEAKER_10: But it was awesome.
- 44:45SPEAKER_10: So it's good.
- 44:45SPEAKER_10: Thank you again, Cousin Larry.
- 44:47SPEAKER_10: That was awesome.
- 44:49SPEAKER_10: Okay, so this is what Cousin Larry said.
- 44:51SPEAKER_10: Well, at first I thought about guitar players who played a strat like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Buddy Holly, and a slew of others.
- 44:59SPEAKER_10: And then I began to think about songs that turned me on to rock and roll.
- 45:03SPEAKER_10: That's the direction I went to.
- 45:04SPEAKER_01: Me too.
- 45:05SPEAKER_10: I loved the 70s, but it was music from the 50s and 60s that really started my rock and roll journey.
- 45:11SPEAKER_10: Songs by the Beatles, Elvis, the Beach Boys, Jerry Lee Lewis, and others really made me love rock and roll.
- 45:18SPEAKER_10: But the song that I just loved and couldn't see pulling me away from the piano and Beethoven as a kid would have been Chuck Berry's Johnny Be Good.
- 45:26SPEAKER_10: I love the guitar and that song still does.
- 45:28SPEAKER_10: Honorable mention to roll over Beethoven.
- 45:30SPEAKER_10: That one just seems appropriate.
- 45:32SPEAKER_01: I hear that.
- 45:35SPEAKER_01: Alright, so cousin Larry's pick is the I want to say the architect of rock and roll.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: Is that Little Richard?
- 45:43SPEAKER_10: I would say the little Richard.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: Ever heard Judas Priest version?
- 46:16SPEAKER_01: It's different.
- 46:20SPEAKER_10: But every time I hear I hear the song, I like to think it's Michael J.
- 46:24SPEAKER_10: Fox and Back to the Future.
- 46:25SPEAKER_10: Oh, right.
- 46:26SPEAKER_10: And he's doing it at the school dance.
- 46:27SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 46:28SPEAKER_10: Shock! Chuck, it's your cousin!
- 46:30SPEAKER_08: Marvin! Marvin Barry!
- 46:33SPEAKER_01: She just watched that not too long ago.
- 46:35SPEAKER_10: For the first time, such a great movie thing.
- 46:43SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 46:44SPEAKER_01: So now that it's cousin Larry, what is yours?
- 46:46SPEAKER_10: Wow.
- 46:48SPEAKER_10: What would have taken me away from the closet would have been the first Metallica record.
- 46:53SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 46:53SPEAKER_10: So it would have been black and Metallica.
- 47:11SPEAKER_10: You know, the one with no bass on it.
- 47:19SPEAKER_01: I mean it did, but it didn't.
- 47:20SPEAKER_10: Yeah, right.
- 47:21SPEAKER_10: It was turned way down.
- 47:30SPEAKER_01: Okay, so we're talking about rabbit holes.
- 48:24SPEAKER_01: Oh god.
- 48:33SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: Um rabbit hole.
- 48:38SPEAKER_01: You know, the the side, the little thumbnail, like you said.
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 48:42SPEAKER_01: Metallica Mixer explains missing bass on Injustice for All.
- 48:47SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: Their website.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 48:51SPEAKER_01: Or their their uh YouTube page.
- 48:52SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 48:53SPEAKER_01: So uh maybe we'll look at that another time.
- 48:56SPEAKER_01: Uh uh Metallica Mixer.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure who the mixer is.
- 48:59SPEAKER_01: Uh I thought maybe it would Oh, Steve Thompson.
- 49:04SPEAKER_01: Steve Thompson.
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: Steve Thompson.
- 49:07SPEAKER_01: I hear.
- 49:10SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 49:10SPEAKER_01: So you ready for mine?
- 49:11SPEAKER_01: I am.
- 49:12SPEAKER_01: Hear me.
- 49:13SPEAKER_01: The song that would would would have pulled me away or did pull me away from the piano and made me want to play not necessarily a Stratocaster, but maybe a Stratocaster or a Stratocaster type guitar that was striped.
- 49:30SPEAKER_10: I just assume Ah yes.
- 49:33SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 49:40SPEAKER_07: Oh, do I have to tell you this song?
- 49:42SPEAKER_07: Ain't talking about love.
- 49:44SPEAKER_07: No.
- 49:45SPEAKER_01: Van Halen.
- 49:55SPEAKER_01: It was that riff.
- 49:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no.
- 49:57SPEAKER_10: Oh, I totally did that.
- 50:16SPEAKER_01: It was it was um a close second between that and at the same time I had heard uh where is it?
- 50:27SPEAKER_01: This right here.
- 50:30SPEAKER_01: Toto.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 50:35SPEAKER_01: I'll supply the love.
- 50:36SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 50:37SPEAKER_01: One of their firsts from the first album.
- 50:42SPEAKER_01: So that's my that's my honorable mention.
- 50:44SPEAKER_01: But my pick is Ain't Talk About Love by Van Halen.
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: And yours is Blackened by Metallica.
- 50:49SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 50:50SPEAKER_01: And Johnny Be Good from Chuck Berry is is uh cousin Larry's let's let's do the future.
- 50:58SPEAKER_07: What's the next question?
- 50:59SPEAKER_07: This will be a good one.
- 51:00SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 51:01SPEAKER_10: If you had but one country song to listen to while stranded on a desert island, what would it be?
- 51:09SPEAKER_10: One country song.
- 51:11SPEAKER_01: One country song.
- 51:14SPEAKER_10: This is gonna be hard for you.
- 51:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it is, actually.
- 51:19SPEAKER_01: Because you know there is the perfect country song.
- 51:21SPEAKER_10: There is a perfect country song.
- 51:25SPEAKER_01: One country song.
- 51:28unknown: Wow.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: My daughter says, raise your voice, which is a country song that I wrote.
- 51:35SPEAKER_01: Ah, there you go.
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: No, I don't want to hear myself on a desert island.
- 51:38SPEAKER_01: I've got enough of me in my head.
- 51:40SPEAKER_07: I can hear myself all the time.
- 51:41SPEAKER_07: Yeah, exactly.
- 51:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I have to think about that one.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: That's gonna be tough.
- 51:45SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it is, man.
- 51:46SPEAKER_01: I have one popped into my head, but it's like, do I want to be sad the whole time on a island?
- 51:52SPEAKER_01: Or you know?
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: So I don't know.
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: I'll yeah.
- 51:58SPEAKER_01: Alright, cool.
- 51:59SPEAKER_01: There we go.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: You got one?
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: What is it?
- 52:07SPEAKER_01: Digging up bones by Randy Travis.
- 52:10SPEAKER_01: That's a good song.
- 52:11SPEAKER_01: Would you want to hear that and only that for the whole time that you're on the desert island?
- 52:15SPEAKER_01: Well then why'd you say?
- 52:24SPEAKER_07: It is abuse.
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 52:26SPEAKER_01: Uh we're gonna take a break.
- 52:27SPEAKER_01: We'll come back, and you're gonna pick a song.
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: And I'm gonna pick a song.
- 52:31SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna pick an album.
- 52:32SPEAKER_01: Alright.

- 53:51SPEAKER_01: We have returned.
- 53:52SPEAKER_07: Let's start that wall of tunes tunage now.
- 53:57SPEAKER_07: That's so pretty.
- 53:58SPEAKER_07: It's beautiful.
- 53:59SPEAKER_07: That's beautiful.
- 54:00SPEAKER_10: We wrote that.
- 54:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we wrote that.
- 54:03SPEAKER_10: Speaking of copyright laws.
- 54:05SPEAKER_01: Uh alright, so from a hard day's right.
- 54:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:08SPEAKER_01: What do you got?
- 54:08SPEAKER_10: From the hard days night.
- 54:10SPEAKER_10: Things we said today.
- 54:13SPEAKER_10: Like this.
- 54:14SPEAKER_10: And this.
- 54:15SPEAKER_10: And this.
- 54:16SPEAKER_10: All these words I'm saying.
- 54:18SPEAKER_10: I said today.
- 54:19SPEAKER_10: In May 1964, having completed the filming of A Hard Day's Night, and after fulfilling some performing commitments in England and Scotland, the Beatles and their partners took off for a holiday break.
- 54:30SPEAKER_10: John and George made a round-the-world trip with stop-offs in Holland, Polynesia, Hawaii, and Canada.
- 54:39SPEAKER_07: That's it?
- 54:40SPEAKER_10: No, well, I was just I was just the the polar opposites, no pun intended, between Hawaii and Canada.
- 54:48SPEAKER_10: Hey, here we are at the beach! The next day, oh, there's four feet of snow! Um Well, Paul and Ringo went to France and Portugal before taking off for the Virgin Islands.
- 55:03SPEAKER_10: While in the Caribbean, Paul hired a yacht called Happy Days.
- 55:07SPEAKER_10: One, two, people, happy days.
- 55:10SPEAKER_10: And while he was on board with Ringo, Maureen, and Jane, that he wrote Things We Said Today on his acoustic guitar.
- 55:18SPEAKER_10: The song was a reflection of his relationship with Jane in light of the fact that he knew by the nature of their work that time that times together would be few.
- 55:26SPEAKER_10: When they were separated, he said, they would take comfort from the memory of the things they'd said that day.
- 55:32SPEAKER_10: Awww.
- 55:34SPEAKER_06: Sweet!
- 55:36SPEAKER_01: This is a very Paul McCartney song.
- 55:37SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 55:38SPEAKER_06: These days such a kind of thing.
- 55:41SPEAKER_01: Which I love though.
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: I like this change right here.
- 55:43SPEAKER_01: It's just right here.
- 55:44SPEAKER_01: Right here, yeah.
- 55:45SPEAKER_06: Someday when we're dreaming, deep in love, not a lot to stay.
- 55:52SPEAKER_06: Then we will dream but we today.
- 56:09SPEAKER_06: Love it, dear to stay.
- 56:20SPEAKER_10: I mean, especially in the early days, you could almost tell who wrote the song.
- 56:23SPEAKER_10: Oh, for sure.
- 56:24SPEAKER_10: If it was sweet and melodic, it was Paul.
- 56:26SPEAKER_10: If it was more of a rocker, it was John.
- 56:28SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 56:28SPEAKER_10: You know?
- 56:29SPEAKER_10: And sometimes you could, you know, put you know, sometimes John would then you know put a segment into a Paul song and you'd be like, oh yeah, John wrote that part, put that in there, you know.
- 56:39SPEAKER_01: And a lot of the um, for lack of a better word, uh darker material was Lenin.
- 56:45SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 56:45SPEAKER_01: You know, and in it was a great partnership.
- 56:48SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that's why that's why they worked so well with you.
- 56:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 56:50SPEAKER_10: But then of course there was George, he was just, you know, whatever.
- 56:54SPEAKER_01: But that album uh from the movie The Hard Day's Night, uh every song on it.
- 57:00SPEAKER_01: Oh, every song is just classic.
- 57:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, just classic, yeah.
- 57:03SPEAKER_01: Good stuff.
- 57:04SPEAKER_01: All right, I have an album.
- 57:06SPEAKER_01: I'm a drum on other windows.
- 57:08SPEAKER_01: Um I guess let the guessing begin.
- 57:11SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 57:11SPEAKER_10: Is it a band?
- 57:12SPEAKER_10: Yes, a band.
- 57:13SPEAKER_10: Finally.
- 57:16SPEAKER_10: Finally.
- 57:20SPEAKER_10: Uh Rocket.
- 59:01SPEAKER_01: I'll say one word.
- 59:04SPEAKER_01: I'll say one word.
- 59:12SPEAKER_10: Earth Wind and Fire.
- 59:13SPEAKER_10: Earth Wind and Fire.
- 59:16SPEAKER_01: Bill Bailey! Yes.
- 59:20SPEAKER_01: Earth Wind and Fire's greatest hit.
- 59:22SPEAKER_01: Ah, yeah.
- 59:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:24SPEAKER_01: So I have oh, where did it go?
- 59:26SPEAKER_01: I just have oh, there they are.
- 59:27SPEAKER_01: Right there.
- 59:31SPEAKER_01: So what would you call these guys?
- 59:34SPEAKER_01: You could say, I mean, they could they could be pop.
- 59:36SPEAKER_10: Yeah, they could be pop, they can be RB, they can be soul.
- 59:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, soul.
- 59:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:41SPEAKER_01: Disco.
- 59:42SPEAKER_10: Rock.
- 59:44SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 59:45SPEAKER_10: There's the horns right there, yeah.
- 59:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 59:48SPEAKER_10: Yeah, they were all over the place, man.
- 59:50SPEAKER_10: Very, very, you know, in the vein of Chicago.
- 59:53SPEAKER_01: Oh sure, for sure.
- 59:54SPEAKER_01: But I mean, also, disco.
- 59:57SPEAKER_01: I mean, they they kind of owned that.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_10: Well, even Chicago had their disco.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_10: Their disco phaser.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's true.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_01: What was the big hit that they had that was September?
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_01: Although they had several, but this is that's the way of the world.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_01: What I was thinking of is this one.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_01: You were talking about Chicago, right?
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_01: This is after the love is gone.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, David Foster wrote this.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_01: And Bill Champlin from Chicago from Chicago.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_10: And this was a big one for them.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah, it was huge.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_10: It's a great song, too.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_10: I love the chorus of the song.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_02: To love was all we could do.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_10: Isn't that Bill Champlin?
- 1:00:44unknown: We were young and we knew.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_02: I don't think so.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_02: We relax deep inside.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_02: I think that's more recent.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_01: You're right.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_01: Well, boys, it sounds like him, huh?
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_02: For a while.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_02: We paid no mind to the past.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_02: We knew love with last every night.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_02: Something right would advise us to begin the day.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_02: We used to be happy with Sam.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_01: That's all belly.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_01: And yesterday was just this This whole thing from the 70s, man.
- 1:01:26unknown: Here we go.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_01: Um that's fun.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_01: The music of the seventies was just so much better.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_10: Well, some of them.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_01: True.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_01: This is their take on the Beatles.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_09: She loved.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_09: Your music sucks.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_01: And of course, probably the one they're most well known for.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_01: Wouldn't you say?
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_10: Absolutely.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_10: Well, it's it's universal, you know, you play it, everybody knows exactly what it is.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 1:02:44unknown: Do you remember?
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_10: We play this.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_10: We do.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_10: Not as well.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_10: No.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_10: Not even close.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_10: Probably because none of us can sing that.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_10: Oh maybe, maybe Melissa.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna play a couple more.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_01: This one.
