- 0:00What's that mean? Where it's the guy from Always
- 0:02Sunny in Philadelphia and there's just like red lines all
- 0:05over the place and he's losing his mind.
- 0:06That's what it's like to try and figure out where I can watch
- 0:10these damn games. Where do I go?
- 0:12How do I do it? How much money does it cost?
- 0:15Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the three OT where we talk all
- 0:20things Major League Baseball. Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate
- 0:25Reyes it all. Starts.
- 0:28Right now who? Welcome back to the three I take
- 0:32presented by Schnook Cedar. This episode 583.
- 0:35I'll be your host, Kyle Korne. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:38Reyes. Nate Casey, How are we?
- 0:46Emphasis on we. We.
- 0:50We've got a friend got a friend, our friend Josh Booth on the PS
- 0:59and QS Welcome to the show. We're going to be If you've been
- 1:05following us for any length of time, you know we have a fantasy
- 1:09league. Josh is in that fantasy league.
- 1:14Die hard Pirates fan, but I won't seal his Thunder.
- 1:16But he is he he will be serving as as basically an extra set of
- 1:22hands for us because it's all we can do to pull off a regular
- 1:27show on any given day. So he said, Josh, maybe give us,
- 1:29give us a hand, be our be our researcher, be our producer,
- 1:33just be our be our guy, be our go to guy.
- 1:36And so now that we are in full offseason mode, figured what
- 1:41time better than now. So we have, we have a Josh here
- 1:46with us. If you're watching on YouTube,
- 1:48you can you can see him down there in a corner.
- 1:50He's he's hanging out with us. Josh, glad to have you on here,
- 1:53man. I am pumped man, real excited to
- 1:57to get going so. Let the folk let the folks know
- 2:01about about who you are. Yeah, plug, plug JB.
- 2:05Yeah, yeah, let's let's do the quick and dirty that that that
- 2:10you said husband to Katie, dad of three, baseball fan, Pirates
- 2:15fan, stat head. Let's go.
- 2:17I love it. I love it.
- 2:22Yeah, yeah, just really just a baseball guy.
- 2:26Been listening to you guys for a while.
- 2:29Gotten to know you over the the fantasy chat.
- 2:31Pretty pumped about this man. For those who don't know that,
- 2:36if if you have multiple monitors, if you're one of those
- 2:40people at your desk, it has multiple monitors and you're
- 2:43just like a ChatGPT guru and it's all just always up.
- 2:49You always got it left up. That's Josh.
- 2:51But with baseball reference, that's just it's it dominates
- 2:55its own screen. So having to have JB on the on
- 3:00the team, man, this is going to be fun.
- 3:01We're going to things are stayed normal.
- 3:05You know, nothing's really going to change, but Josh is going to
- 3:07be able to Fact Check us when needed and and look up some
- 3:11stuff when we need it 'cause I talk out of my booty hole so
- 3:17often. So Josh is going to keep us
- 3:19honest. You know more me than anything.
- 3:24Yeah, we're going to have to develop a nickname too.
- 3:25JB is a good start. JB is a good start.
- 3:29JB in the corner. Well, we'll, we'll see what
- 3:33happens. It'll develop naturally, I'm
- 3:35sure. It will.
- 3:37Any who's we're in the offseason and I think we mentioned at the
- 3:43end of last episode that we're trying to we're going to mix
- 3:46things up a little bit. We're going to get weird as we
- 3:48usually do, but just trying to shuffle things up a little bit.
- 3:52So we've got got a couple couple new things, couple different
- 3:56things planned for for these episodes this offseason.
- 4:00So let's start with a little bit of a little bit of a fan
- 4:07engagement. Read some, some, some reading of
- 4:12the comments, if you will. I put out a prompt on Facebook,
- 4:18put out a post like today, yesterday.
- 4:21This will probably be our home for it, by the way, This is
- 4:23something we're going to try to do maybe at least for the
- 4:27offseason. So if you're not following us on
- 4:30Facebook, go hop on there because that's where the comment
- 4:34section you that comment section goes nuts.
- 4:39So for better for Facebook followers, Yeah, better.
- 4:43Mostly, mostly worse, but sometimes it's better.
- 4:46Hopefully this one's better. But yeah, I, I, yeah, like Nate
- 4:50said, go follow us on Facebook. But I put out a post the other
- 4:52day, it said give us your craziest MLB game day story, not
- 4:58quote that time I spilled my beer.
- 4:59We're talking truly insane experience.
- 5:04No, no rhyme or reason as to why we went with that, but we
- 5:07figured we we, we will mix the prompts up over the over the
- 5:10offseason and and really just dive into some some of your old
- 5:16thoughts, some of your comments, some of your stories.
- 5:18And boy, there were some great responses to this kind of
- 5:25overwhelming, to be honest with you.
- 5:26Some of these I was like didn't even didn't know we had people
- 5:29following us that that live that kind of life as a fan, but one
- 5:32of these in particular I wanted to read.
- 5:34So let me let me shout out our guy Justin.
- 5:40Oh. Boy is it Musumecki.
- 5:45Come on man, you could. You had to set yourself up for
- 5:48the hardest last name on the entire.
- 5:51How would you spell this or how would you pronounce this
- 5:53MUSUMECI? Say it again.
- 6:03MUSUMECI. Musamechi, Musamechi.
- 6:10Musamechi, Musamechi. Apologies, Justin.
- 6:15Right. Yeah, nailed it by the way.
- 6:18Musumechi. That's it.
- 6:21How do you how do you know this? I I don't know.
- 6:23No, not you, Josh. How how is he?
- 6:25How is he? Did he did he message Justin?
- 6:28I just googled it. Yeah, that's what he's here for.
- 6:33Look immediately. Look at that immediately.
- 6:36Course correct. Look at that, all right, Justin?
- 6:39Justin said to the prompt of give us your craziest MLB
- 6:43experience. And, and just letting you know,
- 6:44it's a little bit lengthy, but this is quite the story, Justin
- 6:48said. Buckle everybody, Everybody said
- 6:51a story. Story time with with Uncle
- 6:53Casey, Justin said. Summer of 1999, I was in the 5th
- 6:58grade attending a day camp run by my elementary school in
- 7:01Manhattan. One morning during drop off, my
- 7:04friend's dad told my dad that a company he worked with gave him
- 7:07two tickets for the Yankee game that Sunday, but his family was
- 7:11going to their house in Montauk for the weekend and they
- 7:14couldn't make the game. Knowing we were huge fans.
- 7:18My birthday was the next week and we had taken the sun to some
- 7:21games in the past. He offered them to my dad and I.
- 7:24We gladly accepted them and saw they were special tickets
- 7:28because they came with parking passes and Yankee club passes,
- 7:32but at the time there was no way of Googling to see exactly where
- 7:35the seats were. We also knew it was going to be
- 7:38Yogi Berra Day, the first time Yogi was back in the stadium
- 7:42after his long time beef with Seinbrenner.
- 7:45On the day of the game my dad and I went early and arrived
- 7:49around 11:00 AM for the 135 start.
- 7:52We show our parking passes and are directed to park in the lot
- 7:56directly across from old Yankee Stadium which turned out to be
- 7:59the player's lot and then directed to use the press
- 8:03entrance. Upon entering we see Whitey Ford
- 8:05and his wife. Ford tells her to go to the
- 8:09seats and he'll meet her after. He goes to the bar and then the
- 8:11pre game ceremony. His wife rides the elevator with
- 8:15us to the seating level. We go to our seats and they're
- 8:18in the first row behind home plate.
- 8:20We then go to the Yankees club. Dad gets a beer, I get a ginger
- 8:25ale. We leave the Yankee club to go
- 8:27to our seats for Yogi's ceremony and as the elevator doors are
- 8:31closing someone yells hold it. To this day, 26 years later, I
- 8:36still remember thinking we're going to miss the start of the
- 8:39ceremony. A Yankee attendant sticks their
- 8:42arm in the doors and they open and in walks, you guessed it,
- 8:45George Steinbrenner and Yogi Berra.
- 8:48It's just me, Dad, Yogi and George standing in a normal size
- 8:52elevator and I'm in disbelief. One of those moments you can't
- 8:56believe is actually happening feels like a dream in your mind.
- 9:00But the adrenaline pulsing through your veins remind you
- 9:03it's entirely real. We exchange pleasantries and
- 9:06tell Yogi how happy we are to see him back in the stadium.
- 9:09And I asked them if they'll sign our program.
- 9:12They say yes. As I give it to George to sign,
- 9:15he says quote the man of the day.
- 9:17First Yogi signs, then George. We go to our seats and watch the
- 9:23pregame ceremony, ending with Don Larson throwing out the
- 9:25first pitch to Yogi. Then David Cone proceeds to
- 9:29pitch a perfect game against the Expos, all with me and Dad
- 9:32sitting in the center of the first row and in just about
- 9:35every TV frame. It was easily a top five most
- 9:38incredible experience of my life, sports related or
- 9:40otherwise, and a day I'll never forget.
- 9:45I mean, is that not the most It's just insane poll.
- 9:49Like what a crazy story I just had my.
- 9:52Dream day. That's so sick.
- 9:55That's unbelievable. That's so good.
- 10:00It's going to be hard to it's going to be hard to continue
- 10:03this. That's always going to be
- 10:06stories. But like, man, that's good.
- 10:08That's a heck of a way to start our our, our segment with this,
- 10:12but. Justin has a future in in, I
- 10:16don't know, some kind of. Storytelling.
- 10:18Write a. Book or something man jeez.
- 10:20Well, I was trying, I mean. On the edge of my seat.
- 10:22I'm I'm reading these comments and I'm like, I what, what is
- 10:27like my craziest game day experience?
- 10:29I I couldn't anywhere near that, not even close.
- 10:31I don't. Even want to tell any stories
- 10:33because that's that's unbelievable.
- 10:38That's sick, man. Shout out to the family that
- 10:41went to Montauk because those those jokers didn't know and
- 10:47David Cohen with the perfect game just being like like a
- 10:50cherry on top. It's like, not even that.
- 10:52Yeah. It's not even like the highlight
- 10:54of the story like. You're like, that's a cool story
- 10:56I got to go to. I sat front row, first row,
- 10:59watched the perfect behind home. Blade.
- 11:01Alone is insane but. Man, there's so many layers to
- 11:05that. Sitting behind home plate first
- 11:07row, that's a story in and of itself.
- 11:09And then it's like, I was actually there for a perfect
- 11:12game. And then I'll, yeah, by the way,
- 11:14ran into George and Yogi in the in the elevator on Yogi day.
- 11:19Like insane. But yeah, just just wanted to
- 11:26like I said this, this will be something that I think we'll
- 11:28we'll try to we'll try to roll out as the offseason continues.
- 11:32Just a way to get honestly, you know what, it was I I wanted to
- 11:35introduce different segments so we could stay as far away from
- 11:41the free agency and trade rumors as possible.
- 11:44And I tell you what, I've done such a fantastic job to this
- 11:48point staying away. I haven't.
- 11:50I haven't. I haven't bitten on any on any
- 11:53of the bait, any of the hooks, nothing.
- 11:56I've stayed completely away. John Heyman doesn't exist.
- 12:01Doesn't even exist to this doesn't.
- 12:03Matter to. Me, even Jeff Passan, which
- 12:06we'll get into it. Talk about the pirates.
- 12:09Go pirates. Talk about the pirates.
- 12:13Like of all people to be talking about the Pirates, I'm like, OK,
- 12:16well, this this is pumping up the heads of Pirates fans all
- 12:20over the nation. When when you get Jeff Passan
- 12:23finally validating it a little bit.
- 12:25And it's not it's not John Heyman running his mouth.
- 12:28But yeah, we'll get into that. Some of the other things we'll
- 12:31get into we're we're talking the Josh Naylor extension, the
- 12:35Taylor Ward, Grayson Rodriguez trade, pirate spending.
- 12:41As I mentioned, some some new TV deals coming for Major League
- 12:45Baseball, but let's start let's start with the Josh Naylor
- 12:49extension. It was real announced a few days
- 12:53ago that Naylor had signed A5 year contract to return to the
- 13:00Mariners. Staying put in Seattle locks him
- 13:05up through the 2030 season, includes a full no trade clause
- 13:08and is worth 92 and a half million with no.
- 13:11I love, I love how these these reports have to include this
- 13:14now. No deferrals.
- 13:17So what was that? No deferrals.
- 13:22No deferrals. Do we like this move?
- 13:25Do we like, do we like a lineup that currently includes Cal
- 13:31Raleigh, Josh Naylor, Julio, Julio?
- 13:36I wanted to kind of, I mean initial feel.
- 13:45I just didn't get like that. I don't know what it was.
- 13:48It just it didn't I didn't get the whole warming fuzzies when
- 13:51he was there. I know it wasn't very long.
- 13:54I don't know if it's also the fact because I wanted to look up
- 13:57like other first baseman free agents and there is kind of some
- 14:03fall off I guess after Pete Alonso.
- 14:05But I I don't know. I mean I.
- 14:12For. I don't know, I don't even know
- 14:16how to spit ball, but maybe 7 to 10 million more.
- 14:20AAV could you have gotten a Pete Alonzo?
- 14:26You know, could you have? I mean, I I like that they they
- 14:29struck it first. I like that they went and just
- 14:32got it. I I it just makes me wonder, you
- 14:35know, I don't, I just, I don't know if Josh Naylor is like the
- 14:40truth. I don't know if that's like, you
- 14:43know what I mean? I don't know if I want to just
- 14:44commit to him being in the middle of the lineup.
- 14:46Like, I I haven't seen enough of it to be like, yeah.
- 14:49And not to mention he's below average at first base.
- 14:53Like, it, it's just kind of odd to me.
- 14:55It doesn't. I thought it was a nice move
- 14:59last year just to go and get it and like you're making a run and
- 15:03like let's let's go get a lefty bat with some pop.
- 15:07But it's, it's strange to me that you know, you're committing
- 15:11to it for the next 5 years and pretty shaky defense.
- 15:19I don't know. That's that's kind of what hit
- 15:21me first. Is it a sign that we're just
- 15:23getting old, that Josh Naylor just doesn't bother me the same
- 15:28way he used to? Is this just something that
- 15:31comes with age that comes with time?
- 15:34Because I feel like that's been the case for a lot of guys over
- 15:36the years, right? Initially couldn't stand them.
- 15:40Not Josh Naylor, just, you know, generally some of the like just
- 15:44guys that I wasn't necessarily a fan of.
- 15:46And then 5-6 years pass. I'm like, hey, let's take it
- 15:50easy on XYZ. Honestly, I feel like you, you
- 15:54mentioned, you mentioned Pete Alonso.
- 15:57That's already a name that I'm having to soften the blow on
- 16:02because it there's sounds like there's a good chance that he
- 16:04ends up in Boston. So I'm already having to walk
- 16:07that back a little bit, but. Yeah, it's going to be tough for
- 16:09you. It's.
- 16:10Going to be a tough offseason, but is is Josh Naylor a guy for
- 16:14you that because you mentioned you didn't get the warmer and
- 16:18fuzzies, but is is Josh Naylor a guy that has maybe rode into I.
- 16:24Mean, I don't know him. He, I mean, he for obvious
- 16:29reasons, you know, the whole, you know, home run off of coal
- 16:33couple post seasons ago and the ridiculous home run trot.
- 16:37But I don't know, just more like on the Mariners side.
- 16:42It's just it feels like what you had wasn't enough to get the job
- 16:47done. It just feels like a weird like,
- 16:50yeah, let's run it back with him.
- 16:52I don't know. I don't know what it is like.
- 16:54I'm just like I if you're, if you're inching that much closer,
- 17:00you've now solidified, you know, an MVP caliber performance out
- 17:06of two guys. By the way, Julio ended up
- 17:08having a really good year and I think was like top 7 or top five
- 17:14in votes, something like that. This second-half was was
- 17:17significantly better. So it's just I don't it it seems
- 17:21odd to me that like he, Josh Naylor was not enough to get you
- 17:26over the hump. And I know it's not like just
- 17:29falls on him, but just feels weird that like they weren't
- 17:33more creative. They weren't willing to maybe
- 17:36double down and go get a name like a Pete Alonso and imagine
- 17:40that 234, you know, like. But who's to say they're done
- 17:44though? Because I, I think with the way
- 17:46that the last few years have gone, they've all but all right.
- 17:51Pigeonhole's a weird word to use, but they basically pigeon
- 17:55them, pigeonholed themselves into needing to actually do
- 18:01something in the offseason. You can't, if you're the
- 18:03manners, you can't just skate by with like, well, we're happy
- 18:05with who we've got. They've they've gone, they've
- 18:08gone too far now they've they've shown too much to to then just
- 18:16pull out the rug and be like, well, we're we're going to keep
- 18:18it in house And and you know, we'll bring back Naylor, but
- 18:20we're we're kind of cool in it otherwise, I mean.
- 18:22That's a good point. I, I'd like to, I'd like to see,
- 18:25I got to remind myself this isn't their only move.
- 18:27Hopefully I, I'd like to see them do a little bit more.
- 18:30You know, Gino being a free agent.
- 18:33So there's obviously a hole at third base.
- 18:37You know, I maybe there's a run out of Beau Bichette, you know,
- 18:41and, and moving him to second, you know, there's I think
- 18:44there's some stuff that they could do, but I would like to
- 18:46see them kind of solidify that. And I think it's just like the
- 18:52the defense being subpar and I don't know how subpar it is, but
- 18:57that's just the narrative that I feel like I've been I've been
- 19:00fed that it's like the bat isn't good enough to be ADH towards
- 19:06the end of that contract. You know, I don't know, maybe
- 19:12he'll he'll make me eat my words.
- 19:14And there's also this like lingering thing that it's like
- 19:19some hitters just flat out can't hit in Seattle.
- 19:23And there's been multiple hitters that have come out and
- 19:25said, I hate it there. I can't see the ball.
- 19:28And it makes you wonder that like, I don't know, is he one of
- 19:33them or is he not? I don't know if last year was
- 19:34enough of a sample size, just like to see how this goes.
- 19:38But I would like, I, I want them to do more.
- 19:40I would, I want Seattle to do more and maybe go get this,
- 19:44this, this guy from Japan and kind of double down, maybe let
- 19:49him play third to for the, you know, this next year or two
- 19:53until he kind of fades into a first baseman or DH.
- 19:55Like I, I want more oomph in that lineup basically.
- 20:00I hope this this is just the latest step for the Mariners in
- 20:06the process of crafting their identity further, building their
- 20:10identity further. And and I mean, frankly, just
- 20:15making themselves a destination, like having like being becoming
- 20:20an appealing destination for these free agents where it's
- 20:24like, OK, they're actually, because we have this
- 20:25conversation all the time. Who's actually making an effort
- 20:28to put themselves in a position to win or to at least make a run
- 20:31at this thing and who's not? And if the Mariners can, you
- 20:35know, they've they've had, there's been, there's been
- 20:37narratives with, you know, how they spend money, how they
- 20:41acquire their talent OR, or you know, lack thereof.
- 20:44However it is you want to approach it.
- 20:47If if this is one of multiple moves, great.
- 20:52But again, if this is it, or if this is, if this is their big
- 20:56splash, if you will, then it's like, OK, well, I guess run it
- 21:00back again next year. See, see what magic you can
- 21:02make. But I've, I would, I would be
- 21:04much, I would feel much better about the Mariners if, if, if
- 21:08they continue to, to supplement this.
- 21:11I think this and this is it feels like the kind of I don't
- 21:14know what years are looking like as far as control goes, but it
- 21:18feels like we're kind of coming down to an end of like that,
- 21:23that early 20 teens Detroit Tigers type rotation where
- 21:30you're like, we're going to look past this in 10 years and be
- 21:33like, you had all of these names and you didn't win 1.
- 21:37You know, that's what it's going to end up being.
- 21:39And I feel like we're right on the brink of, you know, Kirby
- 21:42being gone and Logan Gilbert being gone and, like, Brian Wu
- 21:45becomes the guy. And, you know, it's just, I hope
- 21:48that they can do it during this window where there's still
- 21:50control, somewhat affordable. But I don't know.
- 21:56I don't know. We've wanted a lot out of them
- 21:58over the last few years and it's just felt like they've haven't
- 22:00delivered fully. Speaking of control and arms,
- 22:09Baltimore Orioles parted away with Grayson Rodriguez in a
- 22:13trade for Taylor Ward. In fact, this one truthfully
- 22:17just kind of fell from the clouds.
- 22:19Honestly, like I was just just going about my what would that
- 22:23have been Tuesday evening and all of a sudden I get the
- 22:29update, which I have to say, you catch the.
- 22:32Ryan Ripken response. I did, but I that wasn't even
- 22:36the response that it that it that intrigued me or I'll, I'll
- 22:41say shocked me. It was the, it was the the Jeff
- 22:45Passan tweet. Like, I don't know if it caught
- 22:49him by surprise too, 'cause he first of all, it seems like the
- 22:54Orioles broke the trade because he quote tweeted the O's tweet
- 22:58and an all just like regular sentence case.
- 23:01No breaking, no no all caps, no nothing.
- 23:04He just said trade news. Taylor Ward's going to Baltimore
- 23:07and Grayson Rodriguez to the Angels.
- 23:12So I don't like, I don't know how under the radar this move
- 23:15was that that even Jeff Passan isn't breaking it, that he's
- 23:20quote tweeting the the OS. But yeah, this just seemed like
- 23:23this was a little bit of a head scratcher.
- 23:26I don't, I don't dislike it. I think there's, there's maybe
- 23:29pros and cons to, to both, but I, I just wasn't anticipating
- 23:36the OS viewing this as the offseason that they needed to
- 23:40ship out Grayson Rodriguez. It just feels like a really like
- 23:46sell low. I'm I'm very confused by what
- 23:51the Orioles are doing because like over the last few off
- 23:55seasons and trade deadlines, we were told that this is like
- 24:00their future ace. We were told, you know what I
- 24:02mean? Like that was.
- 24:02Do you think they do you think they know something?
- 24:06Do you think they know something?
- 24:07The guys made a glass. I don't know, maybe it's I don't
- 24:11know. It's sort of like Taylor what
- 24:15that you couldn't get anything more out of what the potential
- 24:19ceiling for Grayson Rodriguez is.
- 24:21Well, no disrespect, but like, well, I've you just.
- 24:24Said like he's made out of glass and you feel like the OS are
- 24:27selling low, which I I would kind of agree on on both fronts.
- 24:31But if that if, if that's what the rest of the league is seeing
- 24:36and you can still manage to get Taylor Ward like I'd, I don't
- 24:40hate it. I don't know, JB, what's the
- 24:43Taylor Ward contract look like, 'cause that to me is strange.
- 24:49They don't know what they're doing as far as like
- 24:51right-handed pop. Like they're just throwing.
- 24:53I think they're blindly just throwing stuff at a dartboard.
- 24:57Like the last few years it's been like, let's see what we can
- 24:59get out of Gary Sanchez. Let's see what we can get out of
- 25:02Tyler O'Neill and then now Taylor Ward.
- 25:04It's just like these like, why? At this point in the offseason,
- 25:09why it? I feel like it could have been
- 25:14another name other than Grayson Rodriguez.
- 25:16I think it's just strange. I like it for the Angels because
- 25:21it's like, why not? Let's take a lottery.
- 25:24Ticket, yeah, I mean they you can get, they had a little bit
- 25:26of a log jam out there in the outfield.
- 25:28So I mean, why not? Why not get especially?
- 25:31I mean, Joe, Joe like truly came onto the scene last year, right?
- 25:34So. Yeah, how about that?
- 25:35That's your guy it. It only took freaking four
- 25:38years, JB, what you got? Yeah, Taylor Ward last year of
- 25:42arbitration projected at 13.7 million.
- 25:48So it's a little better than a rental I.
- 25:52It's a one year deal. I don't understand.
- 25:57It doesn't make any sense to me. I'm very lost.
- 26:01I could, I could very, I could very easily see the OS letting
- 26:05this this last year ride out and be like, thanks for your
- 26:08service. We'll we'll look elsewhere
- 26:11around the league to fill this slot.
- 26:12And then you just, you just let Grace and Rodriguez go.
- 26:15Yeah, we'll run it with like Jorge Salaire next year at age
- 26:2036, whatever he's going to be like.
- 26:22I just don't. I don't understand.
- 26:24It's directionless. It's.
- 26:26Who's also with the angels, by the way?
- 26:28Yeah, which would be even funnier.
- 26:31Whatever, keep doing what you're doing, I guess enjoy the bottom
- 26:34of the division. I don't no, I'm being mean.
- 26:36I think everybody was like higher on them.
- 26:38They just underperformed last year.
- 26:40But I don't know. Maybe maybe like you said, maybe
- 26:47they know some. We don't know.
- 26:48Maybe they are about to go hard at their rotation the rest of
- 26:53the the offseason. I'm I'm lost.
- 27:02I I tell you what. Man trade for Scubal.
- 27:09They got the farm, they got the. Pieces.
- 27:11They've had the pieces, they've had the money.
- 27:14That's that's what's weird too, because like, what are we
- 27:17pieces? You could go get a Taylor Ward
- 27:19with anyone else in your farm. What are we waiting for like
- 27:23this? I think he pissed somebody off.
- 27:26I think, I think Grayson said something to somebody they
- 27:28shouldn't have said. And like, all right, watch this.
- 27:31You're gone. Like I they could have done it
- 27:35with anybody else. Angels would have taken
- 27:40anything. Angels have taken anything, they
- 27:45don't care. They don't.
- 27:47Yeah, dude, I'm I couldn't be more out on the Orioles
- 27:51philosophy right now. Like show me something.
- 27:53Yeah, not this. Don't show me this.
- 27:55Ryan Ripken, my guy. Put him in office.
- 27:59What are we doing? Get Prince of Baltimore needs to
- 28:01take over. Get your team in order.
- 28:03What do we do? Like get get some talent in
- 28:08there? Yeah.
- 28:09This isn't this isn't cutting it.
- 28:11I don't get it. Don't understand?
- 28:15Well, at least the Ravens are starting to turn it around.
- 28:19At this point I'm I'm honestly getting a little I'm I'm a
- 28:21little higher on the pirates if I'm being honest.
- 28:24Real. Pirates it's it's just any, any
- 28:28excuse to hit that button. Well, it was I was I was setting
- 28:33myself up for for what is our next topic.
- 28:35And it is this this report report.
- 28:41I use that term so loosely. By the way, welcome to three O
- 28:45take. By the way, if if you hung out
- 28:47with us during the postseason and you're like, wow, these guys
- 28:50are pretty fun. They're pretty lively.
- 28:53This is the opposite of what you're going to Yeah.
- 28:56The the offseason version of US is just extremely negative until
- 29:01bombs start dropping. Well, I mean, like, what?
- 29:05What are we supposed to do? Just like, pretend that
- 29:08everything's all fine and dandy? Pretend like the Orioles
- 29:11actually spend money because they don't.
- 29:14Pretend like the Orioles part way with their pieces to bring
- 29:16in other pieces 'cause they haven't.
- 29:19Pretend like the Pirates are going to spend money this
- 29:21offseason 'cause they're not. Sorry, JBI.
- 29:24Just I wasn't sure about the I mean, you threw some hard air
- 29:28quotes on report, so I just. No, I, I put air quotes on it
- 29:35because I I there's the I like Jeff Passan, are you can you
- 29:40really look at yourself in the mirror after after putting that
- 29:45out there and think this is a legitimate this is a legitimate
- 29:50report. I could very easily see this
- 29:54plane out this offseason where the pirates spend money.
- 29:57He. Was doing his hair.
- 29:58He had to let his kid tweet it for him.
- 30:02Type this up for me. Josh, I'm, I'm going to flip it
- 30:07to you. You're, you've obviously been
- 30:09been in, in the weeds of this. What?
- 30:11What is actually what? What's actually happening here
- 30:14with the Pirates? First off, Jeff Passan is the
- 30:19last guy who's going to do Ben Sharrington and Bob Nutting a
- 30:22favor. So I don't think that this is
- 30:26any kind of. That's that's what I don't.
- 30:29Care of plant of what I of that type, But I think the only thing
- 30:36you could really take away with this is that they're willing to
- 30:39offer more than they ever have. The problem is are they willing
- 30:44to offer more than any other team is going to offer the the
- 30:50offer that was there and you know, take it or leave it if you
- 30:54think it's real or not. I I've heard from a couple
- 30:57places the offer that was there was still 10 million short of
- 31:01what Seattle offered. So are you really?
- 31:05Are you really playing? Bros Bros got new buttons.
- 31:10Yeah, the buttons. Oh man, sorry I had to.
- 31:15No and. No display overall or AAV.
- 31:19Overall. Oh, that's not that bad.
- 31:24But are you just going to that? Like level where you're like, we
- 31:26know he won't sign, but this will look good.
- 31:29That's what I said in our that's what.
- 31:30All these teams do, that's what. I'm worried about.
- 31:33Now granted that. Is more than the pirates three
- 31:37years, 39 million. That's the that's the largest
- 31:40free agent contract that they've given out.
- 31:43So Yvonne Nova. Liriano, Liriano.
- 31:47Yvonne. Nova was the last multi year
- 31:49deal in 2016 I believe. But here's the thing, the
- 31:57Pirates have stumbled themselves into a generational talent in
- 32:00Paul Skeens. He's won a rookie of the year
- 32:02and a Cy Young already. If he can convince Bob nothing
- 32:05to spend money, build a statue, that's.
- 32:09You know what I mean? I wish.
- 32:11We had. I wish we had.
- 32:12Josh on the pod back when those reports came out, or I don't
- 32:16even know if it was reports, but it it was just a hot topic with
- 32:19Paul Skeens and whether or not he actually wanted to be a
- 32:22pirate or not. Josh and I kind of went at it
- 32:25because Josh was fully sold on the fact that Paul Skeens just
- 32:28bleeds black and yellow, which I think could not be further from
- 32:32the truth, but. Those have been clearly.
- 32:36Refuted. Those comments have been clearly
- 32:38refuted, so yeah, better late than never.
- 32:41Clearly he. Didn't lie.
- 32:42No, this. No, no, no.
- 32:44I'm. Not even talking.
- 32:45I'm not even talking about Dan Patrick stuff.
- 32:47I'm not. Even he told.
- 32:47Patrick verbatim that they weren't true.
- 32:51No, I. I'm talking.
- 32:52Like last year that when when I don't even remember what sparked
- 32:56it, but it the conversation got brought up.
- 32:58It's like it does Paul Schemes actually want to be here?
- 33:00Oh, it's when they were talking extension.
- 33:02Like when when the idea or when the, the, the yeah, when the
- 33:07idea of an extension came up. And he was just like, yeah, you
- 33:11know, I'm just, I'm just here to win here now.
- 33:14And we'll see where things go. And I'm like OK guy, like Smart
- 33:19could not be more. More transparent here.
- 33:23Smart. I think he wants to win in
- 33:27Pittsburgh. I don't think he would ever sign
- 33:30an extension there. He also wants free agency and he
- 33:33deserves that. They all do.
- 33:37But I think that he sees that as a challenge.
- 33:41Here you go. I need to take it easy on.
- 33:43Josh, I don't want to scare him away after the first set.
- 33:45We're halfway through. You're sorry?
- 33:48Sorry, so OK, so. Then what do you think?
- 33:55Fast forward to. The eve of opening Day.
- 34:00What's? What's the pirate?
- 34:01Shiny new toy that they're taking the field with opening
- 34:06day. Conor Griffin.
- 34:10Now. I I.
- 34:11Know they're excited about Conor Griffin, but no, I guess what
- 34:14I'm saying is they're not. Going to be they're not going to
- 34:16sign anybody. OK, so there we go, you.
- 34:19Know they, they also they also. Offered four to five years of
- 34:22Schwarber. Wonder what that number is?
- 34:26Not enough. They're not getting that.
- 34:29They're looking for lefty power. Who's left?
- 34:31Bellinger. They're not going to go that
- 34:33high, I mean. $12.00. In a lifetime supply of hoagies,
- 34:38I just don't think it's going to get it done for Schwarber, if
- 34:41I'm being honest. That's all they got.
- 34:44No, they're. They're not going to be able to
- 34:49play ball. They're.
- 34:50Going to bring back. IKF, they're not going to do
- 34:53that. He's probably the one that opens
- 34:55shiny new toy. Yeah.
- 35:01That's the source IKF was. Like he wants to be a Yankee.
- 35:04I don't know what you want from me.
- 35:06He said it to my face. Kyle.
- 35:11We'll Kyle. We'll talk when the trade
- 35:13happens between the the Pirates and and Boston.
- 35:17I can't wait when you get Mitch Keller.
- 35:20No, no, we'll talk. About the Brayu or or the
- 35:23password? Coming to the Pittsburgh,
- 35:26that's. Totally fine take.
- 35:27Give us, in fact, give us schemes.
- 35:29We'll give you no. No, Keller.
- 35:31No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 35:33Give it. I'm not.
- 35:33I don't. I'm not interested in Keller.
- 35:35Give us, give us schemes. We'll give you.
- 35:38We'll give you a Brayu and Tessie.
- 35:42No, you're not. Getting.
- 35:45You're giving me. Abreu, you're giving me.
- 35:46Anthony, you're giving me. Sedan, you're giving me.
- 35:49Are you kidding me? No, I'm not.
- 35:51You're getting. You're getting we're keeping
- 35:53Wally and we'll give you a Tessie.
- 35:55That's as far that's as far as we go as far as this
- 35:59conversation. You get a.
- 36:00Lobster Roll and Yoshida. I heard they hung up.
- 36:03I heard they hung. Up the phone on you.
- 36:06I mean, that's a. That's a once in a lifetime
- 36:09deal. What else you I mean, what other
- 36:11team can offer you a lot a quality lobster role in in
- 36:14Masataki Yoshita. Man, what a what a what a
- 36:19blockbuster trade that'll be. I can't wait for that day
- 36:24speaking. Of blockbuster.
- 36:25Let's talk. Let's talk TV.
- 36:30I'll be honest with you, I'm still trying to wrap my.
- 36:32Head around this announcement that came out today with these
- 36:35these TV deals and these rights it was announced that MLB.
- 36:41I guess was it officially announced?
- 36:43Today or was it just reported that this that this is coming?
- 36:45OK, so officially reported today, NBC will be taking over
- 36:51Sunday Night Baseball and the first round of the playoffs.
- 36:54Netflix will be taking Opening Day, the return of the Field of
- 36:58Dreams game as well as the Home Run Derby and then I guess ESPN
- 37:04will be taking over MLBTV as well as out of market select in
- 37:09market games. Can somebody explain to me what?
- 37:16This what this transition to. ESPN is like.
- 37:21How does that how, how does MLBTV just carry over to the
- 37:27ESPN app? I'm I'm, I'm having a hard time
- 37:30making sense of what that's going to look like sense to me
- 37:32either. But.
- 37:33I mean, the what is the ESPN app has been like 999-1199 something
- 37:39like that. That's about to jump to
- 37:42whatever. You know, I'd, I think the idea
- 37:47I could see maybe not the first year, but eventually the whole,
- 37:51hey, you can pay 70 bucks for the year.
- 37:53You get your team every out of market game for the year and
- 37:58then it what is it, 120 and you get every game.
- 38:04I could see ESPN. Getting rid of that model and
- 38:07just charging 60 bucks a month to use their platform.
- 38:13And then there was a bundle. I think it was like ESPN
- 38:17Unlimited, Hulu and I think Disney.
- 38:20It's like 30 bucks a month. I'm like, can we?
- 38:24That's going to go? Can we?
- 38:25Can we stop? Like this?
- 38:28It's too much. Like what?
- 38:31What's? Out there now Forget baseball.
- 38:34What's out there now for sports fans?
- 38:37ESPN. Peacock.
- 38:41Prime. Netflix.
- 38:46What else? What?
- 38:47What am I missing? Just if any sports, I mean, if
- 38:50there, if there's UFC fans. They got to.
- 38:53They're getting it through ESPN. You've got Apple, Apple there's.
- 38:58Apple. That's gone too, by the way,
- 39:01right? I think we saw that a couple
- 39:03months ago. Friday night games are done.
- 39:07Yeah, Apple still has. Fridays.
- 39:09Yeah, unbelievable. I mean you need.
- 39:13Access to TBS. For the post season you need
- 39:16access to Fox. You said that NBC is taking.
- 39:20Sunday Night baseball, Yeah, Which I think, I I think.
- 39:23I actually called that the last time.
- 39:27Like months maybe? Even like a year or two ago, we
- 39:32were talking about with ESPN or no, maybe this was last year.
- 39:37We were talking about ESPN possibly showing themselves to
- 39:41the door as it related to baseball coverage.
- 39:44And we were spitballing like who, who would be a good play,
- 39:46Who would be a good platform to take that slot?
- 39:49And I said I'd love to see NBC slide in there.
- 39:51I think you're making that up. I'm dead serious.
- 39:55I'll pull the. I'll go pull the receipt.
- 39:58You do that. Thank you.
- 39:59I I mean all all, it's all fine and dandy till next September.
- 40:05And football is also. On Sunday night on NBC.
- 40:10What is that about? What are we going to do then?
- 40:12So apparently the the Sunday. Nights are NBC slash Peacock.
- 40:17I bet they moved to Peacock. There it is.
- 40:20Yeah, there it is. Football.
- 40:23Stays on NBC and baseball gets relegated to Peacock.
- 40:28Peacock used to be the Sunday. Morning.
- 40:31And it was Roku for the last couple years.
- 40:33I believe that's going back to them as well.
- 40:36I don't understand. Do we just do?
- 40:38Like do we hear the? Conversation that's happening
- 40:40around this is this is insanity. All the as sports fans, the
- 40:44streaming options have gone too far.
- 40:50But we've just, we, we've just blindly accepted it because we
- 40:54just want to watch our sports. And these providers know that
- 40:57and they're going to keep charging it.
- 40:59They're going to make it more difficult to watch these sports.
- 41:01They're going to have too many barriers and we're just going
- 41:04to. Continue to fork over our.
- 41:06Money. You know how like everything?
- 41:09Just kind of cycles back where everyone like there's kids
- 41:12wearing baggy pants again, you know, like it's early 2000s and
- 41:18they're going to like thrift stores and they're like, this is
- 41:20a vintage shirt. It's like, no, that just an old
- 41:23shirt. Cable needs to come back.
- 41:27Bring cable back. I want cable I want.
- 41:32I want that hard. Thick cable coming out of the
- 41:35wall, Plug it into my TV and that's the only spot it's going
- 41:38to go. And I want commercials.
- 41:41I want. Yeah, I got there, had to go
- 41:45there. That's what I want.
- 41:50I want ATV guide I. Want to scroll through ATV
- 41:53guide? I want it all what I mean what
- 41:56do you want? Like ESP NS not even on YouTube
- 41:59TV anymore Like. I don't know what this is.
- 42:04What? People ask for this is what I
- 42:07want Netflix to start sending DVDs through the mail again.
- 42:10That's what I want. It's the people in the replies.
- 42:14That that just piss me off where they're just like they're
- 42:17responding to these platforms like Netflix will put out a
- 42:20tweet or I mean, I didn't say I'm not saying this is
- 42:22happening. Just as an example, Netflix puts
- 42:25a tweet out, Hey, we're getting opening night in the Field of
- 42:30Dreams game. And then you get these people
- 42:32instead of instead of bringing some sense to the conversation
- 42:36and be like, hey, can we not do this?
- 42:38Can we not have another platform now that we're going to have to
- 42:42have access to, to pay for, to consume the sport that we want
- 42:45to watch? But in instead of doing that,
- 42:48they're getting in the replies and be like, OK, well, how does
- 42:51this impact my ability to watch this?
- 42:53And will you still be providing that?
- 42:55It's like stop, Like stop. Can we please stop catering to
- 43:01these platforms and, and, and, and like please, please, Mr.
- 43:06Netflix, Sir, can you, can you flip this switch or unlock this
- 43:11so I can watch that or so I can watch this?
- 43:13Just we're just going to keep giving them our money.
- 43:17How is it that ESPN isn't good? Enough to keep Sunday Night
- 43:21Baseball, but they're good enough to take the rest of our
- 43:23games. How's that going to work?
- 43:29Well, if you. Go if you go back to.
- 43:31February, ESPN opted out. They had an opt out for the last
- 43:34three years of their deal, which was around 1.65 billion.
- 43:39The the money doesn't make sense here.
- 43:40They've essentially added a bunch of stuff and then broke
- 43:43even because Manfred and ESPN kind of had a fight.
- 43:47They kind of got like high school drama going on and like,
- 43:51I'm breaking up with you. No, I'm breaking up with you.
- 43:54And then they finally made-up in July, and this is what they
- 43:57worked out. But after Manfred tried to
- 44:00recoup the money with Netflix and NBC and all that.
- 44:04By the way, it does say that NBC will have 2525 Sunday.
- 44:12Night games will. Will air mostly on NBC, the rest
- 44:15on NBC Sports Network. All of them will be on Peacock,
- 44:19so you'll still get NBC Sports Network.
- 44:22Also ESP NS back on YouTube TV now.
- 44:26That is back I. I can't keep up.
- 44:29I can't keep up. I hate this.
- 44:31I hate this. I don't have time to.
- 44:33This is so stupid. What's?
- 44:35And what's that meme? Where it's the guy from Always
- 44:37Sunny in Philadelphia and there's just like red lines all
- 44:40over the place and he's losing his mind.
- 44:41That's what it's like to try and figure out where I can watch
- 44:45these damn games. Where do I go?
- 44:47How do I do it? How much money does it cost?
- 44:50I don't understand. What are they doing?
- 44:53And you're still going to get blacked out.
- 44:55Don't think that's that's that's not going anywhere.
- 44:58That's staying for forever. I hate.
- 45:02It I. Hate it, I wasn't going to get
- 45:04worked up. You mean that thick hard cable
- 45:10back? Relax bro.
- 45:13Plug it into the TV. Relax.
- 45:17You mean that coax? So it's interesting though, the
- 45:23tight. Line my friend.
- 45:24As ESPN gets MLBTV. They're also getting so it's all
- 45:29the out of market games. They're keeping the price where
- 45:31it is. I think it's 150 right now.
- 45:33You there are packages for a single team, but the six teams
- 45:37that actually moved to MLBTV because they lost their rights.
- 45:43Are the guardians. Padres, Twins, Diamondbacks,
- 45:45Rockies and Mariners. Those teams will now have ESPN
- 45:49broadcasting their all their home games.
- 45:52Run me through that list one more time.
- 45:53I did see it but I can't remember who.
- 45:55Guardians. Padres.
- 45:57Twins, Diamondbacks, Rockies and Mariners.
- 46:03This is this is all root. Sports, isn't it?
- 46:07Some of. That is, yeah, Root Sports.
- 46:09Yeah. And I think.
- 46:10Seattle, actually. Bought Root Sports and now
- 46:13they're doing away with that as well and I think that's how they
- 46:15got well, the D backs have like their own.
- 46:17My guy Drew Goodman, so that can.
- 46:19Be about for the Rockies. They've been calling games
- 46:22forever. Yeah, don't the D backs have
- 46:26like their own thing? They were.
- 46:30They were available to. Purchase it was an extra charge
- 46:33on MOBTV Yeah, they've. Turned it over to them, yeah.
- 46:38Oh, so OK. I see that which I.
- 46:40Didn't. I don't think we did because.
- 46:42I didn't get to watch any Diamondbacks games this year,
- 46:45but yeah, dude, I can't. I can't keep it straight.
- 46:49It's. It's insane but from what it
- 46:54sounds. Like from what it sounds like we
- 47:02can get ESPN then Peacock. And that gets us, that gets us
- 47:09where we need. To be I, I mean I, I guess like.
- 47:13If if you want to watch opening night, you got to have Netflix.
- 47:16If you want to watch the Home Run Derby, you got to have
- 47:18Netflix. If you want to watch the Field
- 47:19of Dreams game, you got to have Netflix.
- 47:21If you want to watch the All Star game, you got to have Fox.
- 47:23You want to watch the World Baseball class, you got to have
- 47:25Fox. If you want to watch LDSLCS
- 47:27World Series, you got to have Fox.
- 47:29If you want to watch LDS or the LCS, you got to have TBS.
- 47:32And if you want to watch on Fridays, you got to have Apple.
- 47:34It's too much. So does NBC take the TBS?
- 47:38Slot. If that's what that means if.
- 47:42NB If. Did I?
- 47:43What did I just say? NBSNNBC take the.
- 47:48The what slot season do they take the the team they?
- 47:51Take the. Spot, they've got the wild card
- 47:53round. They've got the wild card round.
- 47:55Hope they don't hire Ron Darling.
- 47:57No to suspect, no well, some. Well, not me, I I don't the
- 48:02last. The last thing I.
- 48:04Remember seeing live on Netflix that tanked their servers.
- 48:11Crash. Was that Mike?
- 48:12Tyson, Jake Paul fight. Have they done something live
- 48:18since? Because.
- 48:19Like, like, I'm curious to see how that goes.
- 48:21I don't know what viewership is going to be with what that was
- 48:25compared to a Home Run Derby. But I don't know.
- 48:27We're probably going to be there anyway, aren't we?
- 48:30Oh, home run. Derby, I was thinking world.
- 48:32Baseball Classic? What's that going to be on?
- 48:40That's all I care about. World baseball class tube TV.
- 48:43That's going to be ESPN. You're going to have, if you
- 48:45have MLBTV, which is going to be on ESPN, you will have access to
- 48:49MLB Network. But I think that's a big
- 48:51question for me. Will I Will they continue to
- 48:54provide MLB Network through their service of MLBTV?
- 48:59I, I think yes. I I think it's.
- 49:01Just going to be shows, by the way, on ESPN.
- 49:04MLB. Network has three shows.
- 49:06Like keep central, keep central. That's.
- 49:09Yeah, that's GOAT. Add to the mix a little bit.
- 49:12That's goaded. Six hours of the.
- 49:16MLB now it's too. Much, man, it's too.
- 49:20Much I hate it, but but what? Else you got for me.
- 49:24Continue. To spend our money, we got some
- 49:27DMS. Murray wants to know questions
- 49:32or? Comments.
- 49:33Questions, OK. Bringing.
- 49:36DMS back. It's been it's.
- 49:37Been admittedly far too long since since I've fielded some
- 49:42DM. So we're going to make this a
- 49:44regular thing again. So prepare, keep an eye out each
- 49:47week for the, the, the story on IG.
- 49:50That's probably where I'll get get these, these submissions
- 49:54from. So be like, like I said, keep an
- 49:57eye out there and we'll make this a regular thing again like
- 50:01we used to have it. Lead us off here.
- 50:04Murray, friend of the pod, Murray says.
- 50:06When can we bring back the three O fake?
- 50:09I think we were actually we were talking about this right before
- 50:11we hopped on. Actually, I got an idea.
- 50:13Don't say anything. Next question, sucking Murray.
- 50:17I got an idea. It just came to mind too.
- 50:19I didn't even know he was going to ask that.
- 50:21I can't say any. You don't want me to say
- 50:22anything? No.
- 50:25Murray, you'll find out eventually.
- 50:27I'll text. You I'll let you know, but I
- 50:30think we should bring it back in a different way and that's
- 50:33that's my idea. We need to talk about it off
- 50:35here. OK, I.
- 50:37Like that all right. Man, I really.
- 50:42Really jammed myself. Up with names this episode
- 50:45already. Stay Yeppin.
- 50:51OK, I looked up the. Phonetics.
- 50:53I think it's stay. Yeppin, there's AJ in there.
- 50:55J is silent, asks which free which free agent are you most
- 51:01excited for? No.
- 51:06I feel like my my head. Immediately went to Boba Shet
- 51:10and I had to fight. I had to fight the voice in the
- 51:14back of my head saying he's just going to end up back in Toronto.
- 51:18And I said no, I, I, I want to see, I want to see Boba Shet hit
- 51:23the market and find, find a new home.
- 51:27No disrespect to Toronto. I think I think he, he had a, a
- 51:30good run there. But I.
- 51:33This is going to be a this. Is.
- 51:34I think this is going to be a face I'd like to see in a new
- 51:37place. Also, I'm just as I'm a sucker
- 51:43for. Shortstops.
- 51:43I mean the the that's no secret. I don't think he's going to be a
- 51:46shortstop moving. Forward kind of sounds like he's
- 51:48not going to be no, but that's that's another reason I'm
- 51:51excited. About it because of the
- 51:52versatility bring to the table, but I'm just going off of the
- 51:55Beau Bichette we've known as a shortstop.
- 52:02I don't know, I mean some of these feel like cop out answers
- 52:05I guess. I'm I'm excited for.
- 52:11Schwarber, I guess just because of the age and like the the
- 52:16Super 1 dimensional and I'm excited to see what kind of
- 52:21contract that brings and what kind of AAV it brings, you know,
- 52:28still putting up MVP type numbers like it makes.
- 52:32Me wonder like I. I just, I love that that's the
- 52:35free agency we grew up with, right?
- 52:37Like it was you're not hitting free agency until you know,
- 52:40323334 and then you see like a lot of these guys getting paid
- 52:44and then the contract doesn't look great towards the end of
- 52:47it. So like, I feel like this is one
- 52:50of the first names that comes to mind.
- 52:53I know we saw like a an Aaron Judge a couple years ago.
- 52:56That was, you know, on the later end, but it.
- 53:01This is like his next. Contract, you know, I'm saying
- 53:03like he's had so much established already and so much
- 53:07that he's done that. Like I'm kind of excited to see
- 53:11if he does leave. I've heard like a lot of chatter
- 53:14about like the the Braves, which I think would be really
- 53:17interesting. It'd be really strange to see
- 53:21considering how much he's tormented them in a in a Philly
- 53:24uniform. But he hit he did pretty well
- 53:27during the during the Home Run Derby or the the Home Run Derby
- 53:35of the All Star game, right? That's what it was.
- 53:36Yeah. Yeah, man, I, I, I would say
- 53:42Schwarber just because of the different element to it.
- 53:45Everyone else kind of checks that normal box that we're used
- 53:48to, right? Like late 20s, they're hitting
- 53:50their peak years. They're just going to get a fat
- 53:53contract. But like Schwarber brings a lot
- 53:56of impact immediately and you don't, it doesn't seem like
- 54:01there's going to be a ton of guilt with like the length of
- 54:04the contract. So I'm curious to see who does
- 54:08it, who's willing to eat. You know we're talking 30 to. 35
- 54:13mill a year, probably for. Three or four years.
- 54:18And just hoping that he hits 100 and. 20 to 150.
- 54:22Home runs. During that span, I.
- 54:26Like it, Like it. Hello.
- 54:31Austin asks. And this is.
- 54:34A. This is just a reminder.
- 54:36For those if you're if you're new to listening to us these DMS
- 54:40that we're we're planning to bring back and make a regular
- 54:42thing again, they can be baseball, especially during the
- 54:46offseason. They can be baseball related,
- 54:48sure. Of course they can.
- 54:50Also I already. Like the preface of this, they
- 54:52can also just be. Completely off the grid and, and
- 54:56this is what we're working with here?
- 54:57Austin asks. When a deaf person thinks, whose
- 55:02voice do they hear come? On Austin, I can't even begin
- 55:13to. Think about answering this
- 55:16question because I don't like. I genuinely don't know.
- 55:19I don't know, but I've heard that like.
- 55:21There's some people that don't have an internal dialogue.
- 55:25I've heard there's some people out there that don't have like I
- 55:29have. Thoughts all the time my.
- 55:30Brain is just always, always thinking of the most ridiculous
- 55:35things and I'm glad I have somewhat of a filter to save me.
- 55:39But some people don't have that. Some people just go around their
- 55:43day just like no thoughts, just free balling pretty.
- 55:50Wild Nate's internal. Voice is Michael.
- 55:53Kay, I like that. Nate's been known.
- 55:58To drop a I'm a. Red Sox fan OK, that's
- 56:03ridiculous. Now I got to figure out how to
- 56:05create some buttons. Good luck.
- 56:08Good luck I. I hear we got some trivia.
- 56:16Is this how we're going to wrap up the offseason pods moving
- 56:18forward? With a little bit of trivia, we
- 56:21can a. Little trivia to take.
- 56:23The edge off. Yeah.
- 56:26Yeah. You ready to roll?
- 56:28You see those? Those.
- 56:30Tik Toks are so good. Well they go to Chili's and they
- 56:33have like a mozzarella stick. They're like just a little
- 56:35something to take the edge off, like ashing a cigar.
- 56:39I've seen the ones where they do it with the Christmas.
- 56:41Trees like the Little Debbie things, and it's like when you
- 56:43don't smoke, what you need to take, you need to take a break.
- 56:48Christmas tree cakes. Well, we got the.
- 56:50I think we talked about doing. A timer on this sucker, so you
- 56:52got the timer ready at least you want me to do the timer.
- 56:55I think we'll make the timer up here.
- 56:57We'll. Make the timer up.
- 56:58I'll add the timer. You can watch.
- 56:59You can watch the. Clock.
- 57:01Yeah, we'll watch the clock. We got a little Josh.
- 57:03Naylor trivia here. Kind of.
- 57:04Oh boy. It's it's based around.
- 57:07This OK? So this is where we're getting
- 57:08it. And I got a couple notes on on
- 57:10Naylor as well for you, Nate. And then and then while you guys
- 57:13think I'll, I'll give you those. So let's go with the question
- 57:16first. What's that?
- 57:18Sounds like you're going to correct me on some.
- 57:20Stuff. So it's what?
- 57:22You wanted me to do? Yeah, unfortunately.
- 57:25Josh Naylor. Was the. 3rd 1st baseman to have
- 57:29at least 25 double S, 20 home runs and 30 steals in a season.
- 57:37Just the third one minimum games at first base be in 120 games.
- 57:42So they're playing first base, right?
- 57:46He had 20. 920 and 30. And 25 S there are two other one
- 57:51of them did it twice. There are two other guys and and
- 57:54I'll give you a hint right out of the gate, they've all been
- 57:56since the year 1997. OK, so there are two other first
- 58:01baseman 25 double S20 homers that that's the minimum.
- 58:06By the way, they had more than Naylor 25 double S, 20 homers,
- 58:1130 steals in a season. Think about that, I'll give.
- 58:15You a couple. Josh Naylor notes, while we're
- 58:17at it, you mentioned his defense outs above average on Baseball
- 58:22Reference actually have him above average defensively
- 58:27defensive runs saved. Over the whole.
- 58:29Course of it is low, however -6 defensive runs saved with
- 58:34Arizona at first base last year, plus 5 defensive runs saved
- 58:39while he was with Seattle. So the Mariners are thinking
- 58:43about a a defensive liability. They saw a plus defender at
- 58:48first base. Maybe that's where they were
- 58:51fooled. Interesting.
- 58:54Do we have any guesses? Oh, wait, I will say one more
- 58:56thing. I will say one more thing there
- 58:58before you throw it out. Cal Raleigh had comments before
- 59:01Naylor was signed with them about how he was sort of the MVP
- 59:05of the clubhouse. So I think there's something
- 59:07there too, to say that they loved Naylor in the clubhouse,
- 59:12to say if Cal Raleigh's speaking up, maybe that's the guy you go
- 59:16after rather than going after like a Pete Alonso.
- 59:18See, that's what I'm saying is I feel.
- 59:20Like, I feel like in the same way, I mean, I, I love our sweet
- 59:24young Prince Bryce, but like a lot of people for the majority
- 59:28of the early parts of his career or just like, this guy's a punk.
- 59:31But anybody with eyes can look at how Bryce has evolved as a
- 59:35player, as a leader and a clubhouse guy, be like he's not
- 59:39the same kid he was when he got the league and a guy that Nate,
- 59:42you and I have had thoughts and comments on in years past.
- 59:46Like we alluded to Josh Naylor, It's it might be a similar thing
- 59:50where like he's you know, he's becoming like he he's the vet
- 59:53now. He's he's not some young buck
- 59:56trying to stir up controversy in the Bronx or anything.
- 1:00:00He's he's just a guy that's down for the cause.
- 1:00:03Just want to play some ball. Maybe that's what they saw.
- 1:00:05And and clearly Cal thinks the same thing.
- 1:00:09SoCal. Raleigh, that is.
- 1:00:11Smart I. Don't know what do you got in
- 1:00:14there I'm. Thinking since. 97 I'm.
- 1:00:21I'm trying to I'm. Trying to decide if how much
- 1:00:25now, because he was with the, I was going to say Cody Bellinger
- 1:00:29because I was trying to remember how much time he was spending in
- 1:00:32the outfield versus first base. And I, I wasn't sure, but then
- 1:00:36Rizzo kind of threw me off. That does the hint of 97 mean.
- 1:00:40That the first example is from 97.
- 1:00:42Is that 100%? Yeah, OK.
- 1:00:46All right, but it's not hard I. I I say that because I'm looking
- 1:00:50at the name. So I don't know, 7 Yeah.
- 1:00:59I wonder Bellinger. Was was close to some of those
- 1:01:02numbers, but he never had all three of those numbers in a
- 1:01:07season. He's never stole 30 bags.
- 1:01:14One of them is pretty recent, still an.
- 1:01:16Active player free agent this year, The other one.
- 1:01:20Is from the 90s. And is in the Hall of Fame just
- 1:01:23to speed things up. Pretty notorious for being that
- 1:01:28kind of a guy too. It's not Jim Tomey.
- 1:01:35Not even close to. Being notorious for stealing
- 1:01:37bags. That's what I'm saying.
- 1:01:38That's what I said. It's not Jim.
- 1:01:39Tomey, he's ruling out. I was just trying to go back.
- 1:01:42To that. Era.
- 1:01:44Yeah, that was the first. Guy that came to.
- 1:01:47Came to mind. This player only stole 30.
- 1:01:53Bags twice. He did all three of those things
- 1:01:55both of those times. 449 home runs, 488 double S, 202 steals.
- 1:02:0497. Rookie of the.
- 1:02:08Year MVP. Miguel.
- 1:02:11Cabrera, I believe 30 bags. For Maggie, yeah, it's too.
- 1:02:16It's too early. And I believe.
- 1:02:19It wasn't a Rocky, was it? No, but he spent.
- 1:02:23His whole career with one team and it almost was your team I.
- 1:02:30Don't know what that means. You don't know what that means.
- 1:02:33To my team, let me let. Me.
- 1:02:35Double check that I thought. Yeah, that's right.
- 1:02:37OK. Or my team?
- 1:02:38Or Nate's team. Your team.
- 1:02:39Kyle's team. The other one just.
- 1:02:42Played with Nate's team, the. The more recent 10.
- 1:02:46That's a great. Hint.
- 1:02:47Yeah, it's a huge hint. Really narrows the.
- 1:02:50Feeling out there. Yeah, that's it, man.
- 1:02:52You got one. Hey.
- 1:02:53Well done, great job. Put the.
- 1:02:54Claps in the team. Look at.
- 1:02:55You. Yeah.
- 1:02:56Hey, hey, let's. Let's clap it up.
- 1:02:58All right, let's get there. Give me.
- 1:03:00A second, Here we go. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:04All right. OK.
- 1:03:06So the hall. Of Famer who did it twice.
- 1:03:08Was traded in August of 1990 from the Red Sox to the team
- 1:03:12that he played his entire career with.
- 1:03:14What wasn't for he was traded for.
- 1:03:15Larry Anderson. Who I've never heard of, no.
- 1:03:21Respect. No disrespect.
- 1:03:24He's. Probably a great guy.
- 1:03:27Oh, you said. You said he almost played for.
- 1:03:29Red Sox He was drafted by the Red Sox and traded.
- 1:03:31Before he made his debut. Larry Anderson though, I just
- 1:03:35said I'd never heard of him. Dude played 17 years in the
- 1:03:37show. Way to go man 13. .9 career 40
- 1:03:41and. 39 record with a 315 ERA. Larry Anderson great job.
- 1:03:46It's not the same era, obviously, but.
- 1:03:48First baseman almost played for the Red Sox.
- 1:03:51Anthony Rizzo. Yeah, right.
- 1:03:55Yeah, so. Who was the first one?
- 1:03:57He's a. Hall of Famer guys, JB Note
- 1:04:01noted. Non Hall of Famer Anthony Rizzo.
- 1:04:03Yeah. Wait, JB.
- 1:04:08That's his. Initials.
- 1:04:09Oh my gosh. Keeping this thing this is
- 1:04:11terrible. His whole entire.
- 1:04:13Career was played with the Houston.
- 1:04:14Astros, this is. Jeff Bagwell, What are we doing?
- 1:04:20Never would have. Never.
- 1:04:21Would have guessed he swiped 30 bags.
- 1:04:23Really. He did it twice, 30 and 30.
- 1:04:25One in 9799, I'm not. Had tree.
- 1:04:29Trunks for legs. Yeah, I'm not not taking
- 1:04:31anything away from him. But it's.
- 1:04:35We are setting the. We're setting the threshold at.
- 1:04:3730 and he did it 30 and 31, so it's not like he's so to be.
- 1:04:42Fair to be fair. That is the 30.
- 1:04:44That's the. Threshold.
- 1:04:44That's what Naylor had, too. But Naylor had 29 double S and
- 1:04:4820 homers. These guys.
- 1:04:49Goldschmidt had 33 double S, 24 homers and 32 steals.
- 1:04:54Bagwell had 35 double S42 homers and 30 steals and 40 double S,
- 1:04:5943 homers and 31 steals. 31 bags if you will.
- 1:05:04If you will, if you will, and call them Bagwell for nothing.
- 1:05:11Preach. Preach.
- 1:05:13All right, that's a good that's a good opening installment of
- 1:05:16trivia. See, Nate was worried just to
- 1:05:18give you folks a little peek behind the curtain.
- 1:05:20Nate was worried that there was just going to be too much dead
- 1:05:23time as we're sitting there thinking.
- 1:05:24But shout out to our guy Josh in the corner.
- 1:05:27He led us to the water. I mean, we had.
- 1:05:29We needed all the help we could get.
- 1:05:31Well, no, I wasn't even going to say that.
- 1:05:33I was just going to say giving us giving us some some nice
- 1:05:36context to to to fill the void. So I, I, I like, I like closing
- 1:05:42things out with a little bit of trivia.
- 1:05:44Me too. Me too.
- 1:05:45I'm down. For it, hopefully the folks.
- 1:05:46Do as well. We'll keep it moving a little
- 1:05:48faster than we do in the. Live stream, so I'll lead you to
- 1:05:51water if we have to. Yeah, that's yeah.
- 1:05:53It doesn't I feel dirty. I don't feel that clean.
- 1:05:56Yeah, I don't I, I didn't I. Wasn't thrilled with my
- 1:05:59performance there personally. I mean you got Goldschmidt.
- 1:06:02Nate got Goldschmidt I. I provided no value to this, but
- 1:06:06you know, that's that's that's the business we call show.
- 1:06:11Let's let yeah, let's keep this thing.
- 1:06:13Let's keep this rolling and we'll we'll get better at it.

- 1:06:22games I've been posting that we did recently.

- 1:06:27How did you miss that? And I'm like, your brain just
- 1:06:30shuts down when, when you're on the spot like this.
- 1:06:33So like it's easy if you're just a consumer, you'd be like, oh,
- 1:06:37it's, it's XY or Z. But you, the brain, the brain,
- 1:06:40you just, you black out so. We'll, we'll get better.
