- 0:03Speaker 1: We should have shame as like a monthly holiday. I
- 0:06Speaker 1: celebrate shame every day in my personal life. I don't
- 0:09Speaker 1: know about you. For me, shame is three, six or
- 0:12Speaker 1: five days a year. Honey, Please never say honey like
- 0:15Speaker 1: that again. Honey. No. Actually, though, there should be Pride
- 0:24Speaker 1: month in June and then shame for the month of July,
- 0:27Speaker 1: because I feel like, honestly, with all the ship that
- 0:30Speaker 1: I do, I do need like some shame to process,
- 0:33Speaker 1: like you know what exactly happened. Shame is a very
- 0:41Speaker 1: useful emotion. Oh you found Yeah, well, shame is one
- 0:46Speaker 1: of those well okay, I guess. Like, on the one hand,
- 0:50Speaker 1: shame is kind of like a landfill emotion. On the
- 0:54Speaker 1: other hand, I think shame, like embarrassment, in a way,
- 0:58Speaker 1: is like social caution take or like a social bumper.
- 1:02Speaker 1: It's like it's the same way that like pain lets
- 1:07Speaker 1: you know to not stop doing something. Like pain is
- 1:11Speaker 1: like your body being like, don't do that, that's bad
- 1:13Speaker 1: for you. I think shame is kind of like that,
- 1:17Speaker 1: but about your behavior so you don't do it again.
- 1:21Speaker 1: But I don't think it's as like cut and dry,
- 1:25Speaker 1: because it's not always yes, because shame can be very
- 1:29Speaker 1: extremely valid, and there are things that you should to
- 1:31Speaker 1: be ashamed of, But then there's also shame that is
- 1:35Speaker 1: totally grafted onto us by society, by other people. What
- 1:40Speaker 1: have you right? For example, tonight, when I go to
- 1:43Speaker 1: a party at the Boom Hoom Room and inevitably get
- 1:45Speaker 1: monkey pocks, I will experience cham I what I don't want.
- 1:52Speaker 1: I'm not going to ask. This is not that podcast.
- 1:55Speaker 1: This is not that kind of podcast. But what we
- 1:57Speaker 1: will discuss is the Boom Boom Room. Let me tell you,
- 2:00Speaker 1: do you like or do you dislike the Boom Bom Room.
- 2:03Speaker 1: I've had fun there me too. I feel like it's
- 2:07Speaker 1: it is a completely overrated I've had fun there, and
- 2:11Speaker 1: I've also found it extremely lame. Yes, I think it's
- 2:13Speaker 1: an extremely overrated New York institution that is also iconic,
- 2:18Speaker 1: and you can't help but feel a type of way
- 2:20Speaker 1: when you're at it. The last time I was at
- 2:22Speaker 1: the Boom Bom Room was with you Um for the
- 2:25Speaker 1: after party for the out Pride dinner, at which I
- 2:29Speaker 1: had a hundred and two degree fever. Oh wait, but
- 2:31Speaker 1: do you stay for little Kim? I didn't stay for
- 2:34Speaker 1: Little Kim, but I went up briefly to the Boom
- 2:39Speaker 1: Boom Room. Wait was that the Yeah, that was the
- 2:42Speaker 1: last time I was there. I was there, I was
- 2:44Speaker 1: there some other time before that. I will say that
- 2:47Speaker 1: around there that I can't remember. That party is very
- 2:50Speaker 1: easily the best party I have ever thrown. And I
- 2:53Speaker 1: can take like a lot of credit for how well
- 2:56Speaker 1: that party went, and to the queens that I booked
- 2:58Speaker 1: to do back up for a little Kim and like,
- 3:01Speaker 1: I feel like I hauled ass, as did the out
- 3:03Speaker 1: Events team. Did you ever see content from the Madonna
- 3:07Speaker 1: party at the Boomoom Room, the one that was like
- 3:09Speaker 1: the Boom Boom Room is back. Unfortunately, I I have
- 3:12Speaker 1: that was one of what truly some of the worst
- 3:15Speaker 1: things I've ever seen in my life. And everyone knows
- 3:18Speaker 1: how much I love Madonna, but that was she should
- 3:21Speaker 1: have stayed home that night. Getting into that party was
- 3:26Speaker 1: actually the most difficult party I've ever gotten into. And
- 3:30Speaker 1: I have gotten into a lot of crazy parties, but
- 3:33Speaker 1: like that was like a labyrinth of gay nonsense. And
- 3:38Speaker 1: you know, the Boom Boom Room for those that are
- 3:39Speaker 1: the virgins at home who don't know, it's like a
- 3:42Speaker 1: truly like multiple elevators and like a labyrinth of like
- 3:47Speaker 1: halls and mirrors and staircases that kind of lead to
- 3:51Speaker 1: the same places, but it's still really difficult to navigate
- 3:54Speaker 1: sometimes if you're like you know, drunk or cooked out.
- 3:57Speaker 1: And I basically got into the party by like sneaking
- 4:00Speaker 1: in through one of like the back elevators, by following
- 4:04Speaker 1: a group of people that I thought was V I
- 4:06Speaker 1: P or whatever. But like every corner of this party
- 4:10Speaker 1: was like crammed with like B and C list like
- 4:12Speaker 1: gay celebrities or whatever. Like I was like elbow to
- 4:15Speaker 1: elbow with like Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper who were
- 4:18Speaker 1: like yanking each other by the arm to get through
- 4:20Speaker 1: this like sardines crowd of people. And like Adam Lambert
- 4:24Speaker 1: had like his like shoulder pads with like studs on them,
- 4:27Speaker 1: like muscling through this like crowd of Madonna fagets. And
- 4:31Speaker 1: let me tell you you probably know this already. Madonna
- 4:35Speaker 1: fans are the worst class of people. That's you know,
- 4:41Speaker 1: we're speaking of people who stand pop stars. I think
- 4:44Speaker 1: it's very hard to call any of them the worst. Yeah,
- 4:47Speaker 1: that's true, that's that's sure. It's like Madonna stands are
- 4:52Speaker 1: like I would say generally like in the context you're
- 4:55Speaker 1: talking about like a sort of older white man, white
- 4:59Speaker 1: gay man. Oh yeah, I get what you're saying, but
- 5:01Speaker 1: I think there are you know, worse stands out there,
- 5:04Speaker 1: and yeah, true, true, true, there are you know. It
- 5:07Speaker 1: was it was too flippant to say the worst. There
- 5:09Speaker 1: are so many stand bases um to take that title.
- 5:13Speaker 1: But um, Madonna, you know, obviously she did like I
- 5:16Speaker 1: think four songs which were actually like she was great,
- 5:20Speaker 1: but like after her performance, she was like, Okay, I'm
- 5:25Speaker 1: gonna bring up my friend Zachary Quinto and we're gonna
- 5:28Speaker 1: raise some money for LGBTQ homeless youth. It's like two
- 5:33Speaker 1: o'clock in the morning and this this venue is like,
- 5:36Speaker 1: I mean, the booming Room is like so so illegally
- 5:40Speaker 1: packed with like Madonna bags that are like coked out
- 5:44Speaker 1: of their minds and have been waiting for hours for
- 5:46Speaker 1: Madonna and don't want to be there for the fundraising portion.
- 5:49Speaker 1: It was insane. The thing about Madonna is that Madonna
- 5:54Speaker 1: does still think it is at the at the latest
- 5:58Speaker 1: two thousand three, maybe a dozen six, So that is
- 6:03Speaker 1: that is truly the setting of any um, you know,
- 6:07Speaker 1: interaction with her I have also had my own Pride
- 6:11Speaker 1: experiences with Madonna positive So is this turning into a
- 6:16Speaker 1: Madonna episode? I mean, it's Pride, after all, it is Pride.
- 6:20Speaker 1: So the fiftieth anniversary of Stonewall, you know, Pride fifty,
- 6:27Speaker 1: I interviewed Madonna for out and that was crazy to
- 6:32Speaker 1: talk to Madonna for ten minutes and then saw her.
- 6:35Speaker 1: It was the first time I'd ever seen her live.
- 6:38Speaker 1: Saw her concert after when she performed at the Pier
- 6:43Speaker 1: Um truly incredible. She did four songs and it was amazing. UM.
- 6:48Speaker 1: And then I saw her again that year when she
- 6:50Speaker 1: was touring. Um, madam X. I love Madonna. I don't
- 6:55Speaker 1: love Pride as much, you know, I guess because we
- 6:58Speaker 1: are people whose works Center's queerness three sixty five days
- 7:03Speaker 1: a year, twelve months, fifty two weeks, and by the
- 7:09Speaker 1: time that this month rolls around every year, it's exhausting.
- 7:12Speaker 1: We also, both you know, have worked places where we
- 7:19Speaker 1: had to lean into the very you know, like corporate ties,
- 7:25Speaker 1: Hello fellow gays. Kind of pride. We have cynical outlook
- 7:30Speaker 1: on the state of pride and LGBTQ and LGBTQ media
- 7:35Speaker 1: in general. I think, I mean I haven't. I haven't
- 7:38Speaker 1: not worked during Pride since I was I don't know,
- 7:44Speaker 1: like twenty four saying maybe, you know, like my whole
- 7:49Speaker 1: adult life, Pride has been a thing where I was
- 7:51Speaker 1: either working parties, working as a journalist, working as like
- 7:57Speaker 1: a corporate queer. And then this year even we're still
- 8:01Speaker 1: kind of working during Pride because we're making this podcast
- 8:04Speaker 1: and we're doing our show in New York. So I
- 8:07Speaker 1: mean it's great because, like, you know, the girls get
- 8:10Speaker 1: their coins during Pride and that's fab. But also it's
- 8:16Speaker 1: just not something that I care about or have any
- 8:20Speaker 1: real stakes in. It's just like we are, you know,
- 8:23Speaker 1: cynical queers who know that this is a good time
- 8:26Speaker 1: to get like attention and money because it's unfortunately the
- 8:31Speaker 1: only time of the year that you know, culture at
- 8:33Speaker 1: large is willing to give us those things. Yeah, And
- 8:36Speaker 1: I feel like that the way you feel is kind
- 8:38Speaker 1: of how a lot of people feel, right Like, I
- 8:41Speaker 1: think that there's just like a cultural exhaustion around the
- 8:45Speaker 1: Pride industrial complex, and like, you know, the June one memes,
- 8:49Speaker 1: like we see it in that right Like, but I
- 8:53Speaker 1: I don't know, it kind of bums me out sometimes
- 8:55Speaker 1: because capitalism really has ruined it for every on like
- 9:00Speaker 1: capitalism and police and all the other things that make
- 9:02Speaker 1: pride something very icky, and it doesn't feel like it
- 9:06Speaker 1: belongs to us anymore. But like, really like pride in
- 9:09Speaker 1: its best form or the best version of pride is
- 9:11Speaker 1: like when you do it on your own, and it
- 9:14Speaker 1: has nothing to do with like the parties you go
- 9:17Speaker 1: to or the programming that you figure out, or like,
- 9:19Speaker 1: you know, the coin that you make. It's about finding
- 9:22Speaker 1: excuses to take off work. That's literally, it's just like
- 9:25Speaker 1: figuring out how to avoid work and doing something dumb
- 9:29Speaker 1: and gay and slutty instead. I do feel kind of
- 9:32Speaker 1: haunted by pride, and there was actually a summer where
- 9:35Speaker 1: I was hunted by Pride. One summer that I spent
- 9:39Speaker 1: in Europe. I was traveling a bunch and every city
- 9:44Speaker 1: I went to, it would be Pride in that city
- 9:47Speaker 1: that weekend. And I had left New York at the
- 9:50Speaker 1: end of June, so I left Pride and then went
- 9:53Speaker 1: to Europe, and like every new city I went to,
- 9:55Speaker 1: they were like, oh, this weekend is our big Pride Pride,
- 9:57Speaker 1: And I was like, no, I'm being punch across across
- 10:01Speaker 1: the continent by Pride international haunting this and people would
- 10:05Speaker 1: be like, do you want to go do a Pride
- 10:06Speaker 1: thing this weekend? It's like, please, no, don't take me
- 10:09Speaker 1: to a club and give me some speed. Oh my god.
- 10:14Speaker 1: I I mean I love International Prides. I've been to
- 10:17Speaker 1: a lot of different kinds of prides. I unfortunately the
- 10:19Speaker 1: opposite of you, I slash. I'm like the opposite of everyone.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Like I really love Pride and I are disgusting. I
- 10:27Speaker 1: love this month and it enlivens me and makes me happy.
- 10:30Speaker 1: I do, yes, love this month. Yes, because babe, like
- 10:34Speaker 1: you're so pure, friend, But this is what I'm saying.
- 10:38Speaker 1: I don't love the month because I'm gonna go to
- 10:39Speaker 1: the fucking parade, you know what I mean. Like I
- 10:41Speaker 1: don't love this month because like I'm gonna go to
- 10:44Speaker 1: thinking Harry's shaving companies like Cocktail Party or whatever, you
- 10:50Speaker 1: know what I mean. Like we're like we're like cock sucking,
- 10:54Speaker 1: you know, Like I don't care about the Spahn con.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Like I'm telling you that when I'll give you a
- 11:00Speaker 1: cocktail when the clock strikes June one, I will not
- 11:05Speaker 1: do anything that I don't want to do, period, Like
- 11:10Speaker 1: I will not do it, and that I think is
- 11:14Speaker 1: the mentality that everyone should have around this month because
- 11:18Speaker 1: you know, it depends on what your job looks like,
- 11:19Speaker 1: but like you really can maneuver your way into like
- 11:23Speaker 1: really not doing things that you don't want to do,
- 11:25Speaker 1: you know. And I want to validate that because we
- 11:28Speaker 1: have had to have some annoying conversations with people this month,
- 11:32Speaker 1: and I love that you're taking no ship from straight people.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Attitude is on a thousand this month, and it is
- 11:45Speaker 1: great because I like, I have, you know, sort of
- 11:48Speaker 1: like a low level um like apathy about all things
- 11:53Speaker 1: three six or five days a year. Um, but you,
- 11:56Speaker 1: I think, especially during this month, just absolutely we have
- 12:00Speaker 1: no time for this had her own nonsense. No. I
- 12:04Speaker 1: love that I have gotten to benefit from the roses
- 12:07Speaker 1: referring to a very specific incident that we can't talk
- 12:10Speaker 1: about on the camera, but um, I did choose someone
- 12:13Speaker 1: out recently. Well, we're only on camera for each other,
- 12:16Speaker 1: We're not on camera for the listeners. Look, look, mama,
- 12:20Speaker 1: I come camera. We are camera ready. You look stunning.
- 12:24Speaker 1: You have beautiful blonde hair, luscious locks. The virgins should
- 12:28Speaker 1: know you like You're You're back to blonde baby, and
- 12:32Speaker 1: you need to stay. The color did not change at all.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I just got a trim and a blowout. I know,
- 12:36Speaker 1: but it looks just that my hair looks disgusting all
- 12:39Speaker 1: the time. Wait, do you want to know, but your
- 12:40Speaker 1: hair looks more blonde? Do you want to know why
- 12:43Speaker 1: I got my hair trimmed? Why? Because yes, cover they
- 12:46Speaker 1: come yes, no, um, but still sex related. Yesterday I
- 12:52Speaker 1: was hooking up with someone and they very sexily were like,
- 12:58Speaker 1: I love your hair, like you know, the blonde is
- 13:01Speaker 1: so hot um, and then went to tenderly um you know, uh,
- 13:08Speaker 1: run their fingers through my hair and couldn't because it
- 13:12Speaker 1: was so tangled and dry and nodded at the ends,
- 13:18Speaker 1: and I thought, well, I'm getting a haircut tomorrow. Wow,
- 13:26Speaker 1: that's that's pretty. Did he notice or were you able to? Like?
- 13:29Speaker 1: Kind of he kind of like? Um, he was nice.
- 13:32Speaker 1: He didn't recoil, He did not recoil. He you know,
- 13:35Speaker 1: um gracefully pulled out my hair um, and did not
- 13:42Speaker 1: try that move again. Um. But it was a nice
- 13:46Speaker 1: You know, sometimes sometimes the universe calls you in and says, honey,
- 13:53Speaker 1: it's time, it's time. So do you have like a
- 14:10Speaker 1: favorite pride memory? Yeah, I was actually just talking to
- 14:16Speaker 1: our friends Coco and Mars about this. Um. I my
- 14:20Speaker 1: first year in New York. I you know, didn't really
- 14:23Speaker 1: think I was going to live in New York. I
- 14:24Speaker 1: thought I was going to just be here for a
- 14:26Speaker 1: graduate certificate program and then like you know, moved to
- 14:29Speaker 1: the mountains or some ship. And I experienced basically my
- 14:34Speaker 1: first like big city pride and had never seen so
- 14:39Speaker 1: many queer people in my life. And that was the
- 14:41Speaker 1: year that Domo was struck down, and so Pride was
- 14:44Speaker 1: particularly lovely. And that was also the year that Gaga
- 14:47Speaker 1: gave a surprise speech at the New York like opening
- 14:51Speaker 1: rally or whatever. And I remember lining up like waiting
- 14:54Speaker 1: and since like noon to go see Gaga speak because
- 14:57Speaker 1: I had literally never seen a celebrity before in my
- 15:00Speaker 1: entire life. And her speech was beautiful. By the way,
- 15:03Speaker 1: it made me cry. It's like on YouTube somewhere, but
- 15:05Speaker 1: she talked about I hate that I'm recounting this, but
- 15:08Speaker 1: it really was beautiful. She talked about how she said
- 15:11Speaker 1: love winds No, I mean that too, but she said, um.
- 15:15Speaker 1: She was like, you know a lot of people like
- 15:17Speaker 1: to say to me, Gaga, I knew you when like
- 15:21Speaker 1: I knew you when you were, you know, playing at
- 15:24Speaker 1: piano dive bars, and like I knew you when you
- 15:27Speaker 1: had like you know, no social media followers or whatever
- 15:30Speaker 1: she was saying. And she was like, and now I
- 15:33Speaker 1: get to say to you, I knew you when you
- 15:37Speaker 1: didn't have rights in this country, and like I knew
- 15:39Speaker 1: you when you couldn't get married, and like, like it
- 15:42Speaker 1: was it was really beautiful. She She's delivered in a
- 15:45Speaker 1: much better way that I'm doing. Um, and then she
- 15:47Speaker 1: like transitioned. She was like, um, I would like to
- 15:51Speaker 1: think Mark who does my hair, and I would like
- 15:55Speaker 1: to thank John who does my makeup. And it's like
- 15:59Speaker 1: she was just thinking all of her gay friends is
- 16:01Speaker 1: so beautiful. And then she's saying the Star Spangled banner,
- 16:03Speaker 1: but instead of saying that flag was still there, she
- 16:06Speaker 1: said that Pride flag was still and she pulled out
- 16:10Speaker 1: a bride flag. Um, anyways, we are really discovering that
- 16:15Speaker 1: friend is like a yes, God, no, like a chase.
- 16:20Speaker 1: It's literally it's literally the only time I've gone into
- 16:23Speaker 1: gone to like you know, a sanctioned rally or whatever.
- 16:26Speaker 1: But like you have to know that, like I was
- 16:29Speaker 1: coming here from corn fields in Indiana. I was coming
- 16:33Speaker 1: from a place where you could scroll grew then you
- 16:36Speaker 1: got corn Holds and Williamsburg. I wish I was coming
- 16:39Speaker 1: from a place where you could scroll through the entire
- 16:41Speaker 1: Grinder roll in like two minutes. And that was all
- 16:45Speaker 1: the gay people in your like you know, square my radius,
- 16:48Speaker 1: like all the people grinder on grinder, you know what
- 16:51Speaker 1: I mean. And I just like, I had just felt
- 16:54Speaker 1: so overwhelmed by that feeling of being surrounded by queerness.
- 16:58Speaker 1: And the next day I accidentally her into the Dike March,
- 17:01Speaker 1: and Edie Windsor was like, is the moment the moment
- 17:06Speaker 1: if you also do love the Drag March, which is oh,
- 17:10Speaker 1: I've never seen that. Actually, march is great. It starts
- 17:14Speaker 1: in the East Village in Tompkins Square Park. I believe
- 17:18Speaker 1: um and and that stonewall and everyone sings over the rainbow.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Of course, that's very sweet. Although I had a really
- 17:25Speaker 1: horrible dysphoric experience the last time I went to the
- 17:29Speaker 1: Drag March. Oh no, I'm sorry, that sucks. Well. It
- 17:32Speaker 1: was the year that Pearl put me in drag for
- 17:36Speaker 1: her YouTube channel. Oh god, that would make me feel insane,
- 17:40Speaker 1: and it was really cool. But then I went to
- 17:44Speaker 1: the Drag March and just felt like everyone thought I
- 17:50Speaker 1: was a drag queen and that I was a dude,
- 17:52Speaker 1: and it was like the most psychotic I've ever felt
- 17:57Speaker 1: in public. It was really crazy. See. And then I
- 18:01Speaker 1: went to a lady fag party afterwards and my friend
- 18:04Speaker 1: and I were like, we can't deal with this right
- 18:06Speaker 1: now and went back to his apartment and just railed
- 18:08Speaker 1: a lot of ketamine. Oh that's nice. So that was
- 18:11Speaker 1: not my favorite Pride memory. Oh um. At the Dike March,
- 18:17Speaker 1: there was like a surprise. Basically. I was like, I
- 18:20Speaker 1: wandered out of an hnm into the Dike March on accident,
- 18:24Speaker 1: and I was kind of a metaphor it really is,
- 18:27Speaker 1: it really is. And I was like, what is the spirit? Like,
- 18:30Speaker 1: you know, just like lesbians like drumming with their tops
- 18:33Speaker 1: off and I'm like, wow, I'm home, mama. And then
- 18:36Speaker 1: there were these saundered out of a and m into
- 18:38Speaker 1: the Dike March. So beautiful. That should be on Love Victor.
- 18:42Speaker 1: And there were all these lesbians holding up this huge
- 18:45Speaker 1: Dike March banner and they lifted up the banner and
- 18:49Speaker 1: from underneath the banner crawls out, you know, five ft
- 18:53Speaker 1: five Eady Windsor back when she was alive the year
- 18:55Speaker 1: that Dolma was struck down. So she is the literal
- 18:58Speaker 1: superhero of this moment. It And she comes out from
- 19:01Speaker 1: under the banner and she's wearing a T shirt that
- 19:03Speaker 1: says nobody knows I'm a lesbian, And I was just
- 19:06Speaker 1: immediately started crying. Like I just looked at her. I
- 19:09Speaker 1: was brought to tears. And that was like a really
- 19:12Speaker 1: crystallizing moment. Like that weekend, I was just like, I've
- 19:15Speaker 1: never experienced so many kind of like queer magical things
- 19:18Speaker 1: in a row. There was more that happened that weekend,
- 19:20Speaker 1: and I just kind of got addicted to that feeling,
- 19:22Speaker 1: I guess. But like I mean, obviously those things were
- 19:25Speaker 1: like very pride e but like pride sanctioned events aside,
- 19:29Speaker 1: like that magic happens all the time. Um, a horrible
- 19:32Speaker 1: pride memory that I have. Well, this is actually kind
- 19:35Speaker 1: of dark, but it's also was. I was writing about
- 19:38Speaker 1: it yesterday and infuriated me. Um. Remember the year that
- 19:41Speaker 1: Nick Jonas was like gay bating out the wazoo, So
- 19:48Speaker 1: that was also the year which you support I mean,
- 19:51Speaker 1: his thighs were incredible. Um, there's actually a BuzzFeed video
- 19:55Speaker 1: of him reading a tweet of mine about his thighs.
- 19:58Speaker 1: But this is, unfortunately the year of the Pulse nightclub shooting,
- 20:03Speaker 1: and he came to the fucking vigil in New York
- 20:07Speaker 1: for Pulse and gave us speech and I was like,
- 20:12Speaker 1: that was It was so disgusting. And I remember being
- 20:15Speaker 1: in the crowd and being like, what the fuck is happening?
- 20:18Speaker 1: And everyone in the crowd was confused. But that just
- 20:20Speaker 1: goes to show it's like girls, like celebrities, like get
- 20:24Speaker 1: your ship together, like what are you doing? Like know
- 20:26Speaker 1: what space is yours? And what isn't you know? I
- 20:30Speaker 1: think that my favorite Pride memory. I mean, I'm sure
- 20:34Speaker 1: there's some like more ephemeral moments that are maybe like truer,
- 20:39Speaker 1: but I do think that watched so Um one year
- 20:45Speaker 1: I threw when I was still working in nightlife, I
- 20:48Speaker 1: threw this Pride rave called Oasis, and um, Charlene performed
- 20:54Speaker 1: because she was kind of like our She was like
- 20:56Speaker 1: the settine of our parties, like Allah Mulah rouge, and
- 21:01Speaker 1: she took her first shot of estrogen when she started
- 21:06Speaker 1: transitioning on stage at this rave full of like a
- 21:11Speaker 1: thousand people did. Yeah, I didn't know that. While she
- 21:15Speaker 1: while she performed Fruit by Marina I love Fruit and
- 21:22Speaker 1: it was like, truly one of the most transcendent communal
- 21:29Speaker 1: experiences I've ever had. I started sobbing. It was like incandescent.
- 21:37Speaker 1: It was amazing. Also, one year threw a party where
- 21:40Speaker 1: we had drag queen mud wrestling, which was pretty fun.
- 21:45Speaker 1: That's fun in New York. That was a good Pride Yeah, wow,
- 21:48Speaker 1: I love that chick. It was very messy. I have
- 21:51Speaker 1: so many good memories of like going to Rease. I'm
- 21:53Speaker 1: going to Rease this Sunday, skipping all the Pride things,
- 21:57Speaker 1: all the marches, like couldn't be me. I'm going to
- 21:59Speaker 1: go to the beach. Let's go to the beach. Beach
- 22:02Speaker 1: each let's go get away. I never want to go
- 22:04Speaker 1: to Reese again. Ever. I hate it. What, Yeah, I
- 22:08Speaker 1: want to go to a nice beach. Ah rees is
- 22:13Speaker 1: the best beach in the world. No, it's not. It's
- 22:16Speaker 1: really not, just because it's covered in garbage in the
- 22:19Speaker 1: in the water looks like sewage, like what and it
- 22:21Speaker 1: takes like seven hours to get to Yeah, so what's
- 22:26Speaker 1: but that's what you might as well just go to
- 22:28Speaker 1: Fire Island. It takes the same amount of time. It
- 22:31Speaker 1: doesn't take the same amount of time, first of all.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Second of all, I mean the Fire Island beaches are amazing,
- 22:35Speaker 1: but the experience of Fire Island is kind of horrible
- 22:39Speaker 1: compared to like Reese. I feel like, just just we're
- 22:43Speaker 1: different girls, and wow, really I feel like Reese is
- 22:47Speaker 1: like crunchy queer core, like I've never seen so many
- 22:49Speaker 1: top surgery cars like and I like that part of it,
- 22:53Speaker 1: but like it's just the whole Like Reese is giving
- 22:57Speaker 1: like Queer Exchange Facebook group vibes, and that is not
- 23:02Speaker 1: that is kind of the vibe. But I don't know,
- 23:06Speaker 1: I just think it's so brief. Speach is someone posting
- 23:09Speaker 1: I have half a Margarita pizza in my fridge, does
- 23:11Speaker 1: anyone want it? And the first comment is a gluten
- 23:14Speaker 1: freeze that is exactly it, which is an actual post
- 23:19Speaker 1: that I've seen on Queer Exchange. Is it really? Yes?
- 23:24Speaker 1: One time I saw not on Queer Exchange, but one
- 23:26Speaker 1: sometime I saw a post on Facebook that was like,
- 23:28Speaker 1: does any want to come over and help me eat
- 23:30Speaker 1: this gluten free brownie? Penis that I have from a
- 23:33Speaker 1: bachelorette party and it was like the biggest, ugliest, gnarliest
- 23:38Speaker 1: looking penis made of brownie mix that I had ever
- 23:42Speaker 1: seen in my entire life. Okay, well, let's wrap up
- 23:58Speaker 1: our final Pride Phone this episode by looking back on
- 24:02Speaker 1: this Pride season, which has both flown by and dragged on,
- 24:07Speaker 1: and let's do this housewives style, or, as producer Phoebe said,
- 24:11Speaker 1: queer commune style, queer commune house meeting style, queer commune
- 24:15Speaker 1: nose meaning yeah, is there something we can hold to
- 24:18Speaker 1: show who's supposed to be speaking? Dildo we pass around? Well,
- 24:24Speaker 1: I actually hold on one second, I'll get your Rose
- 24:26Speaker 1: Cords dildo. I'll go get my Just kidding, I don't
- 24:29Speaker 1: have one. I have a little bottle of the lube,
- 24:32Speaker 1: the Dakota Johnson lube I actually had drying in my
- 24:36Speaker 1: in my sink, my my crystal butt plug which I
- 24:39Speaker 1: used yesterday that's very stunning, um, and which I cleaned
- 24:43Speaker 1: off after I used to clean your sex toys. Very
- 24:46Speaker 1: smart um. So I'm holding it. So I'm what we're
- 24:51Speaker 1: now going to reveal to each other is our rose
- 24:54Speaker 1: which is appropriate because my dildo, my Crystal Dildo has
- 24:57Speaker 1: a rose on the end. Um complimented. But I'm not
- 25:00Speaker 1: allowed to speak our rose and our thorn of Pride season.
- 25:05Speaker 1: So here's mine. My rose of Pride season is that
- 25:13Speaker 1: I got a literary agent and and making really great
- 25:17Speaker 1: progress in my book, which is like not Pride related
- 25:21Speaker 1: or anything, but like whatever it is, what it is.
- 25:24Speaker 1: The and the thorn of my Pride season is I
- 25:30Speaker 1: could do my rose and then come back to you. Okay, yeah, okay,
- 25:32Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm handing you the plug. Um, so now
- 25:37Speaker 1: you tell me what the rose of your Pride season? Okay, Well,
- 25:41Speaker 1: first of all, I feel like you know, you said, oh,
- 25:45Speaker 1: that's not Pride related, but it is. That's the thing.
- 25:48Speaker 1: It's like, if you're doing something for yourself, that's pride. Right.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Also because probably if and when I sell it, I'm
- 25:55Speaker 1: sure they'll give it a Pride release date. No, really
- 25:58Speaker 1: like it'll be coming out June to money or something. God,
- 26:01Speaker 1: that's probably true. I mean maybe not. Actually, Detransition Baby
- 26:04Speaker 1: didn't come out um during Pride, I don't think um,
- 26:07Speaker 1: So that's I mean it is. Unfortunately, yeah, there are
- 26:11Speaker 1: no other trans novels like, I mean, no I mean
- 26:14Speaker 1: there's like what Nevada and like that never did not
- 26:16Speaker 1: get anywhere near as close in popularity as like Detransition
- 26:20Speaker 1: maybe although the Republication maybe, I don't know. Um. Anyways,
- 26:24Speaker 1: I was just gonna say, for me, pride is we
- 26:29Speaker 1: all have this icky memory association with ugly asked rainbows. Yes,
- 26:34Speaker 1: the rainbow is ugly, and we are admitting that here
- 26:36Speaker 1: on this podcast, and the updated rainbow is even uglier,
- 26:39Speaker 1: and like, I don't know, we can be as cynical
- 26:42Speaker 1: as we want. But like, for me, like the things
- 26:44Speaker 1: that defined pride and my rose for pride was seeing
- 26:50Speaker 1: Hole picks Um, which is Mother Teresa's drag show here
- 26:54Speaker 1: in New York where she curates just an exquisite panel
- 27:00Speaker 1: of drag talent, and the show is a true like
- 27:05Speaker 1: piece of theater, like all of the songs bleed into
- 27:08Speaker 1: each other. There's no time between songs. They're like little
- 27:11Speaker 1: sketches throughout. There's an overture, but she calls in an
- 27:15Speaker 1: overture and she'll just like play a song, like she'll
- 27:18Speaker 1: like blast a Sophie song and you'll sit there and
- 27:20Speaker 1: wait and then the drag will start or whatever. Um.
- 27:23Speaker 1: But it was like one of the best drag performances
- 27:25Speaker 1: I've ever seen. Props everyone that was involved in that show.
- 27:28Speaker 1: And then afterwards just like hanging out with everyone ordering
- 27:31Speaker 1: chicken sandwiches. I did katamine with my ex and then
- 27:35Speaker 1: like smoking cigarettes and talking to everybody. And at the
- 27:38Speaker 1: end of the night, it was like two am and
- 27:39Speaker 1: I like never go home that late ever, And my
- 27:41Speaker 1: friend Cheeky was like, oh, do you want to like
- 27:44Speaker 1: bike home together because we both had to get city
- 27:47Speaker 1: bikes and bike home, and like it was a full moon,
- 27:50Speaker 1: and I like lit up a joint and we just
- 27:53Speaker 1: like biked down the empty streets of Brooklyn on the
- 27:56Speaker 1: way home together just talking about like how much we
- 28:00Speaker 1: love Drag and how good that show was and like,
- 28:03Speaker 1: I don't know, it's so like cinematic and beautiful and
- 28:05Speaker 1: like I don't know, moments like that like just like
- 28:08Speaker 1: make me so happy. Like literally, like the stuff of
- 28:11Speaker 1: life is like all that you need. During Pride season, honey, uh,
- 28:17Speaker 1: that that sounds lovely. We need thorns, Okay, So my
- 28:21Speaker 1: thorn this Pride season has been well that thing that
- 28:25Speaker 1: we can't talk about on the mic, that thing that
- 28:27Speaker 1: we can't talk about. But if I'm being sappy my thorn.
- 28:33Speaker 1: This Pride season was being so far away from you
- 28:36Speaker 1: all month. But that's why these special Pride Bonus catchup
- 28:42Speaker 1: episodes have been so nice because it's an extra you know,
- 28:46Speaker 1: um court appointed time that I get to see your
- 28:50Speaker 1: face every week. It is has been really nice to
- 28:54Speaker 1: to show up and just catch up and key. But
- 28:57Speaker 1: also I'm so glad I get to see your face.
- 28:59Speaker 1: I r L so soon. Wait then, on the day
- 29:02Speaker 1: that this podcast is being released, I will be in
- 29:04Speaker 1: your arms. Yes that's true. Okay, what is I'm throwing
- 29:08Speaker 1: the dildo the butt plug in your face? Um, I
- 29:14Speaker 1: haven't had that much sex. To be honest, I should
- 29:18Speaker 1: probably say, oh, it's been so sad not seeing you
- 29:21Speaker 1: two Rose, but that would kind of feel like, you know,
- 29:23Speaker 1: kind of cheap, but that I wouldn't. I would not
- 29:26Speaker 1: accept it. I feel like you would. I feel like
- 29:28Speaker 1: I mean, but that that is true, Like it has
- 29:29Speaker 1: been really shitty to be far away from you, because
- 29:32Speaker 1: like Ashes here and so like. Otherwise it would be
- 29:34Speaker 1: like I'm so far away from you and Ash oh
- 29:36Speaker 1: and Channi's here too. Um, but it's so it's just you.
- 29:40Speaker 1: You're You're literally all alone. I know I'm aware soon
- 29:44Speaker 1: you will not be. Um, I guess yeah. My thorn
- 29:48Speaker 1: is that I haven't really had that much sex, and
- 29:50Speaker 1: I kind of thought I was going to come here
- 29:52Speaker 1: and like clean up, But I'm having sex tomorrow. Um. Well,
- 29:56Speaker 1: I'm very excited about that for you. And thank you
