- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome to the final preseason edition of jag Zam. I'm
- 0:19Speaker 1: Kannanni Stevens, Brian Sexton, John Osier with me here today
- 0:22Speaker 1: is we talk about that final preseason game as we
- 0:24Speaker 1: get ready for final roster cutdowns tomorrow. We'll kick off
- 0:28Speaker 1: big things with three and zero for the preseason. The
- 0:30Speaker 1: Daguars undefeated. They now won six preseason games in a row.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Isn't that big of a deal, but they haven't done
- 0:35Speaker 2: it since nineteen ninety six, and they had lost ten
- 0:38Speaker 2: of their last eleven, So Brian and no, preseason doesn't
- 0:41Speaker 2: mean a lot, but it is nice to see the
- 0:42Speaker 2: team going out there and winning when they're playing a game.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Well, you know, we talk about culture all the time
- 0:47Speaker 3: you hear from coaches and players. This is an example
- 0:49Speaker 3: of culture right, doing the right thing the right way,
- 0:52Speaker 3: executing even a limited game plan, which is all they
- 0:55Speaker 3: have in the preseason anyway, and the coaching staff talked
- 0:58Speaker 3: about grasping the concepts and then executing on them, and
- 1:01Speaker 3: they did.
- 1:02Speaker 4: And I'm struggling to think of a moment in the.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Preseason where they didn't look like a team that's capable
- 1:08Speaker 3: of winning in the regular season. Called me when they're
- 1:10Speaker 3: three and zero in the regular season, obviously it means
- 1:13Speaker 3: that much more. But it wasn't that long ago that
- 1:15Speaker 3: this was a franchise. This was a team that didn't.
- 1:18Speaker 4: Seem to do a lot right in the month of August,
- 1:20Speaker 4: So I'll take it.
- 1:21Speaker 5: Yeah. I asked Doug off the podium on Friday if
- 1:25Speaker 5: he cared about being six and oh the last two preseasons,
- 1:28Speaker 5: and he said no. And I waited for more and
- 1:32Speaker 5: he said, no, I do not, And I was glad
- 1:36Speaker 5: he didn't get more angry because it was kind of
- 1:38Speaker 5: a silly question, but I knew it needed to be
- 1:41Speaker 5: asked at some point because you're six and oh. It
- 1:44Speaker 5: means nothing except that you're functioning on all levels better
- 1:50Speaker 5: than the team you're playing is functioning at all levels.
- 1:53Speaker 6: So it's not a bad thing.
- 1:55Speaker 5: It doesn't mean anything, but I think it's better than
- 1:59Speaker 5: the alternative is to look bad.
- 2:00Speaker 3: And I think it reinforces what they said in the
- 2:03Speaker 3: course of the lead up to camp and then during camp,
- 2:06Speaker 3: John and that is that they were all focused on
- 2:08Speaker 3: the way that last season ended.
- 2:10Speaker 4: They were determined not to see things.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Go you know, along those lines where they weren't playing
- 2:15Speaker 3: very well, so to me, this was just validation of
- 2:19Speaker 3: some of the things they were saying. Meaningless as it
- 2:21Speaker 3: may be, it at least gives you some indicators, some
- 2:23Speaker 3: clues that you can use to take a look at
- 2:26Speaker 3: what this team could be in the regular season.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe not a big deal, but definitely better than
- 2:30Speaker 1: the opposite. Second big thing today going to be the
- 2:32Speaker 1: starting line. We saw that starting offensive five on the
- 2:35Speaker 1: offensive line for the first time this season playing together,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and they played together for a couple of drives with
- 2:40Speaker 1: some success of Peterson talked after the game about what
- 2:43Speaker 1: he saw.
- 2:45Speaker 7: I thought it was good, you know. I think there's
- 2:46Speaker 7: some still some things we can improve on and continue
- 2:49Speaker 7: to work. But I thought overall, they did a nice job,
- 2:54Speaker 7: you know, in Atlanta through through some pressures at us
- 2:56Speaker 7: that you know, you know, we were un blocked, which
- 3:00Speaker 7: you know, which is which is gonna happen one extra
- 3:02Speaker 7: and Trevor did a nice job, you know, getting the
- 3:05Speaker 7: ball out of his hand. But overall I thought they
- 3:08Speaker 7: played well.
- 3:10Speaker 1: John, We're not gonna make too much of it, but
- 3:12Speaker 1: we did see some good things.
- 3:13Speaker 8: Trevor getting the ball out quickly.
- 3:14Speaker 1: They stuck with the run even when things weren't necessarily
- 3:17Speaker 1: going their way, so things are looking up, I guess
- 3:20Speaker 1: trending towards the regular season.
- 3:21Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 3:21Speaker 5: I thought Trevor looked good in uh both of his
- 3:24Speaker 5: his starts, the really good the other night. All you
- 3:27Speaker 5: can do in pre season is look as it is,
- 3:31Speaker 5: is play who you're playing. And that they led two
- 3:35Speaker 5: touchdown drives. He had a few nice passes on each one.
- 3:38Speaker 5: He had a really nice pass start off the game
- 3:40Speaker 5: to uh Brian Thomas Jr. If he hadn't looked good,
- 3:45Speaker 5: everybody would be criticizing him for it, so praise him.
- 3:49Speaker 5: Within that uh Brian, I had the idea that maybe
- 3:52Speaker 5: if if the Falcons had played a few more people
- 3:56Speaker 5: or seemed like they were being competitive, they might have
- 4:00Speaker 5: played the starters a little more. I got the idea
- 4:03Speaker 5: that Doug looked at it and went, well, we nad fine,
- 4:06Speaker 5: get him out.
- 4:06Speaker 3: We don't even want to be in a hero right
- 4:08Speaker 3: the linebacker, the reserve linebacker that came screaming through and
- 4:11Speaker 3: hit him below the knees. At that moment, I'm like, hey,
- 4:13Speaker 3: it's not for driver to have a seat. There's no
- 4:15Speaker 3: reason to keep him playing. I'll say this last Thursday,
- 4:19Speaker 3: before we went to Atlanta, talked to Trevor in our
- 4:21Speaker 3: TV production meeting, and he talked extensively about having confidence
- 4:24Speaker 3: in each one of those guys individually, and even though
- 4:27Speaker 3: he hadn't seen them together as a unit yet, he
- 4:30Speaker 3: was pretty confident in what the offensive line could be.
- 4:32Speaker 3: He played that way, and as Jehn just mentioned, you
- 4:34Speaker 3: didn't see their front line guys, so of course he's
- 4:36Speaker 3: going to be confident what they can do.
- 4:38Speaker 4: But it was nice to see.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Because would you blame him if he wasn't right, if
- 4:43Speaker 3: it based on the way that the end of last
- 4:45Speaker 3: season went. Would you have blamed him if he might
- 4:48Speaker 3: have been just a little bit curious right, shaky on
- 4:52Speaker 3: the offensive group and wanting to get them together. He
- 4:54Speaker 3: said he had confidence. He played like they had confidence.
- 4:57Speaker 3: That's good. Here comes the real stuff.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Absolutely. Cutdowns are going to be tomorrow before four pm.
- 5:02Speaker 1: As we mentioned, no major injuries, so that makes things
- 5:04Speaker 1: a little more difficult, but good that the team is
- 5:07Speaker 1: healthy as we get to cut down day. That's our
- 5:09Speaker 1: final big thing today, Brian. We talked a lot about
- 5:13Speaker 1: this last week. We'll go over specific bubble players a
- 5:15Speaker 1: little later on in the show, but did anything significantly
- 5:18Speaker 1: change for.
- 5:19Speaker 8: You since the game?
- 5:19Speaker 4: No, No, I didn't see anything. I mean, Elijah Cooks
- 5:23Speaker 4: is a bubble guy. He's different than the other wide receivers.
- 5:26Speaker 4: He's six foot five, he's got longer arms.
- 5:27Speaker 3: I mean, he's a jump, go, get the ball guy,
- 5:30Speaker 3: which is different than all the other receivers. He does
- 5:32Speaker 3: something distinctly different. Well, he made his case with that
- 5:37Speaker 3: catch in the end zone that was contested with a
- 5:39Speaker 3: cornerback hanging all over him. So perhaps he's a guy
- 5:42Speaker 3: who squeezed his way on.
- 5:44Speaker 4: He's helped them in special teams. They know who he is.
- 5:47Speaker 3: It's not like the one play changes everything. We'll have
- 5:50Speaker 3: to wait and see.
- 5:51Speaker 6: Yeah, he's a guy to watch. Not really here either.
- 5:56Speaker 5: Cole Van Lannon on the offensive line is a guy
- 6:00Speaker 5: keep nine or ten. Javon Foster probably gonna play this year,
- 6:04Speaker 5: but you got to protect him. There's some decisions like that.
- 6:08Speaker 5: But look, realistically, if we're talking about the last three
- 6:12Speaker 5: or four guys in the roster, we are talking about
- 6:15Speaker 5: guys who are probably gonna be up and down from
- 6:17Speaker 5: the practice squad a little bit and fairly interchangeable parts.
- 6:22Speaker 5: So I didn't really see anything that stood out on Friday.
- 6:25Speaker 8: All right, that's it for our big things.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Coming up after the break, we'll go over some of
- 6:28Speaker 1: those highlights from the final preseason game of the year.

- 6:56Speaker 8: Welcome back in.
- 6:56Speaker 1: We're talking about that final preseason matchup against the Falcons.
- 7:00Speaker 8: Then things looked pretty clean.
- 7:01Speaker 1: It was against the third team of Atlanta, which we mentioned,
- 7:04Speaker 1: but he got to play who's out on the field
- 7:05Speaker 1: and we saw some good things from the team. We'll
- 7:07Speaker 1: start out with that first drive we saw out of them,
- 7:09Speaker 1: because there was some good things.
- 7:10Speaker 8: The team stuck to the run throughout the.
- 7:12Speaker 1: First well throughout the entire game because they're trying to
- 7:15Speaker 1: run the clock at the end there. But seeing ETN
- 7:19Speaker 1: and Tank both get repetitive you know carries. We saw
- 7:22Speaker 1: Tank didn't fall through and didn't get through on third
- 7:25Speaker 1: and one, but got it right back on fourth and one,
- 7:26Speaker 1: and obviously Etn also being a part of the passing
- 7:29Speaker 1: game has been good. And then Brian Thomas Junior has
- 7:31Speaker 1: just been flashing every time he gets the Lall.
- 7:32Speaker 8: Yeah, it's not gonna flash, it just is at this.
- 7:34Speaker 4: Point, he is so smooth for a guy who's six
- 7:37Speaker 4: foot three.
- 7:37Speaker 3: I mean, there's just there's nothing that doesn't look natural
- 7:40Speaker 3: to him running across the field, running down the field.
- 7:43Speaker 4: I was not the.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Biggest go draft a wide receiver guy, but looking at
- 7:46Speaker 3: him and what he's done, he's changed my mind.
- 7:49Speaker 4: I think he's going to be a difference maker.
- 7:50Speaker 8: John here too.
- 7:52Speaker 6: Yeah, there's a couple of impressive touchdown passes.
- 7:54Speaker 5: And again, I don't know if it translates when you're
- 7:57Speaker 5: playing number one defensive backs or not.
- 8:00Speaker 6: It seems like there's some timing, some confidence there. Brian
- 8:03Speaker 6: Thomas Junior.
- 8:04Speaker 5: Again, all pre season, every day you kept seeing him
- 8:10Speaker 5: and I'm not sure how you quantify it, but you
- 8:12Speaker 5: kept seeing him every day. You feel like he's getting
- 8:15Speaker 5: it a little more. He's growing a little more, he's
- 8:18Speaker 5: improving a little more to where I have no idea
- 8:22Speaker 5: if it's gonna be a thousand yards, it's gonna be
- 8:23Speaker 5: seven hundred yards. But for a rookie like him in
- 8:27Speaker 5: this offense, what you need is for him to matter statistically.
- 8:31Speaker 5: I don't care, but you get the idea that there's
- 8:34Speaker 5: gonna be some plays this year that they need that
- 8:38Speaker 5: he matters on. And as a rookie first round pick
- 8:41Speaker 5: that hasn't always happened, I think it's gonna be significant.
- 8:44Speaker 3: You covered a receiver in Indianapolis, Reggie who is Hall
- 8:46Speaker 3: of Fame caliber receiver. What did you expect from him
- 8:49Speaker 3: as a rookie. I mean, he was a guy that
- 8:51Speaker 3: came in as a top draft pick.
- 8:53Speaker 6: Don't think expected They didn't get it. I mean he.
- 8:57Speaker 5: Missed a lot of the games that year, but even
- 9:00Speaker 5: when he didn't, he wasn't a Pro Bowl level guy
- 9:05Speaker 5: until his fourth year.
- 9:06Speaker 6: So it's well third you could tell.
- 9:09Speaker 5: But he's one reason why I always expect very little
- 9:14Speaker 5: out of rookies because I've seen guys come on and develop.
- 9:17Speaker 5: It's just not the same as when they're in their
- 9:19Speaker 5: second year. But Brian Thomas Junior looks like a guy
- 9:24Speaker 5: who is going to defy that a little bit.
- 9:26Speaker 6: I think he's gonna matter a lot to him.
- 9:28Speaker 1: It's the first utility for me, it's really impressive so far.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Let's talk a little bit about Evan Ingram. He's obviously
- 9:33Speaker 1: had the career year last year, fourth in the league
- 9:36Speaker 1: and receptions, let all tight ends for receptions, and you know,
- 9:39Speaker 1: he said he's focused now on touchdowns and he got
- 9:42Speaker 1: two of them in the preseason year.
- 9:43Speaker 3: One hundred and fourteen catchers, the second most in single
- 9:45Speaker 3: season by a tight end, and he had nine hundred
- 9:48Speaker 3: and sixty four.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Yards, so go, oh, it'd be a thousand yard receiver.
- 9:50Speaker 3: But he only had four touchdowns, which seems crazy to
- 9:52Speaker 3: me because he's such an important target for Trevor and
- 9:56Speaker 3: such a difficult matchup for linebackers or for safeties. I
- 9:59Speaker 3: would think that this should be a year he'd be
- 10:02Speaker 3: had ten touchdowns.
- 10:03Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 10:04Speaker 5: I hope for Evan's sake that this plays out different
- 10:08Speaker 5: than what I'm going to say.
- 10:11Speaker 6: They hope that.
- 10:12Speaker 5: He doesn't catch one hundred and fourteen this year. He
- 10:14Speaker 5: caught one hundred and fourteen last year. He stepped up
- 10:17Speaker 5: and he was their offense in the last four or
- 10:19Speaker 5: five games after Christian went down. They don't need to
- 10:23Speaker 5: have it going through him to that degree this year.
- 10:27Speaker 5: What it would be great for him is if the
- 10:28Speaker 5: yards per attempt or the yards per catch went up slightly.
- 10:32Speaker 5: And as Brian said, he could have a better year
- 10:35Speaker 5: catching eighty and nine touchdowns exactly what I was then,
- 10:38Speaker 5: one hundred and fourteen and four touchdowns.
- 10:40Speaker 6: I think he would tell you that too.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Look, once Christian went out last year, I don't think
- 10:45Speaker 5: Trevor trusted very much except for Evan. To me, the
- 10:49Speaker 5: significant thing about Trevor this year, I think it's back
- 10:52Speaker 5: to twenty twenty two when Bucky Brooks used to talk
- 10:55Speaker 5: about how it felt organic, how it felt like when
- 10:58Speaker 5: Trevor dropped back, it didn't matter where the ball was going.
- 11:00Speaker 5: I think now you've got Christian, you've got Gabe Day,
- 11:03Speaker 5: you have four or five guys. I don't think Trevor
- 11:07Speaker 5: cares at the snap where the ball goes. And as
- 11:10Speaker 5: much as this can be true of receivers, I'm not
- 11:12Speaker 5: sure they carry it.
- 11:14Speaker 4: Eighty ony ten would be an incredible season for him.
- 11:17Speaker 8: I think we'd all be happy with that for sure.
- 11:18Speaker 8: Let's talk a little bit about the defense.
- 11:20Speaker 1: We saw the starting defense in this game for most
- 11:22Speaker 1: of the first half. I think that maybe the last play,
- 11:25Speaker 1: so from what we see from Nielsen so far. We
- 11:27Speaker 1: obviously saw that track sacked from Trayvon some pressure as well.
- 11:31Speaker 1: They were getting as they should meeting winning their matchups.
- 11:35Speaker 1: What are we going to see it as the defense
- 11:37Speaker 1: come regular season or the same?
- 11:39Speaker 3: Well, the thing is should up to me was just
- 11:40Speaker 3: how quickly Nielsen started moving guys getting out of the
- 11:43Speaker 3: lineup right. I mean it was like almost a hockey right,
- 11:46Speaker 3: here come four, here come four, Here come two. He's
- 11:48Speaker 3: got so many different body styles and different types of players.
- 11:52Speaker 4: I think he's going to get clever.
- 11:54Speaker 3: He's got a look at that by Devon Hamilton, right,
- 11:57Speaker 3: I mean that's a big man who's chasing that quarterback down.
- 12:00Speaker 3: I think he's going to be able to go into
- 12:02Speaker 3: his lab and create mismatches to create leverage on an
- 12:05Speaker 3: offensive line.
- 12:06Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm fine with the lab.
- 12:09Speaker 5: I want forty four and tested because I think Trayvon
- 12:15Speaker 5: has a feel. When Tomlin called him a wrecking ball
- 12:17Speaker 5: last year, Mike Tomlin, that really it resonated with me
- 12:22Speaker 5: because that's how he plays. It's not necessarily that he's
- 12:24Speaker 5: going to have these just picture book past rush moves.
- 12:29Speaker 5: I think he has enough pass rush moves to be
- 12:31Speaker 5: a dominant force because he is such a physically dominant
- 12:34Speaker 5: human being.
- 12:36Speaker 6: I get that.
- 12:36Speaker 5: It was third teamers, and I'm not saying, but you
- 12:39Speaker 5: look at Trayvon and he just has continued to get
- 12:43Speaker 5: better and better and he's so physically gifted, dominant. Whatever
- 12:50Speaker 5: experiment all you want, but let's make sure him in
- 12:53Speaker 5: forty one.
- 12:53Speaker 6: Are on the field.
- 12:54Speaker 8: Yeah, let's keep them out there. I think that's fair.
- 12:56Speaker 5: And fifty two, I mean, I keep saying to me,
- 12:59Speaker 5: this defense, I get there, Ryan Ielson's a big story.
- 13:01Speaker 6: They're playing fast, that's all good.
- 13:03Speaker 5: Armstead, Hamilton, Trayvon Walker and Josh heinz Allen. If those
- 13:09Speaker 5: guys are healthy, it makes me feel like they can
- 13:11Speaker 5: be a dominant defensive line. I don't know if it's
- 13:15Speaker 5: the best in franchise history, because there's been a lot.
- 13:19Speaker 4: There's been some good defensive lineman around.
- 13:20Speaker 5: Here that forsome quietly because of Hamilton coming back and
- 13:26Speaker 5: Armstead adding, and it could be pretty good.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:29Speaker 3: You know, ninety nine you had Gary Walker in the
- 13:31Speaker 3: middle with ten sacks and you had Bryce Pop and
- 13:34Speaker 3: Tony Brackens on the outside.
- 13:36Speaker 4: This could challenge that.
- 13:37Speaker 5: Yeah, this is a quietly put together a pretty good
- 13:41Speaker 5: group there, and I think they're the key to this
- 13:44Speaker 5: defense being what they think it can be.
- 13:48Speaker 8: One last time that we're gonna get t too.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Mac Jones touchdown throw to Elijah Cooks, who talked about
- 13:52Speaker 1: Cooks a little bit off the.
- 13:53Speaker 8: Top, made that catch, got that touchdown, which is what
- 13:56Speaker 8: they wanted to do with open the end zone and
- 13:57Speaker 8: get the ball.
- 13:58Speaker 1: But I'm at a point where is it hurting them
- 14:02Speaker 1: now because now people are seeing it on film and he.
- 14:04Speaker 8: Might get picked up somewhere else if he doesn't make
- 14:06Speaker 8: the roster, or is it solidified a spot on a roster.
- 14:10Speaker 3: That's a great question. I think Elijah Cooks does one thing.
- 14:13Speaker 3: I think he does it very well. He goes up
- 14:15Speaker 3: and he gets the ball. How many times have you
- 14:17Speaker 3: seen him drop a ball that he could.
- 14:19Speaker 4: Catch and run with. It's just dart. He's I don't
- 14:22Speaker 4: mean to slight it.
- 14:24Speaker 3: He's a professional football player, but he doesn't have a
- 14:26Speaker 3: varied body of work.
- 14:28Speaker 4: I think you get him to practice squad.
- 14:30Speaker 5: Yeah, I'd be surprised if that's not the route they
- 14:33Speaker 5: take again. I think the story here is not as
- 14:37Speaker 5: much the guy's playing around Mac Jones, but the fact
- 14:40Speaker 5: that mac Jones.
- 14:42Speaker 6: When he's in the game.
- 14:44Speaker 5: You feel like there's an NFL quarterback in the game,
- 14:47Speaker 5: and obviously there are NFL quarterbacks, they wouldn't be there.
- 14:50Speaker 5: But he calms things down, he distributes to the right place.
- 14:57Speaker 5: If something happens to Trevor, there is going to be
- 15:00Speaker 5: a high confidence level when they see mac Jones running
- 15:03Speaker 5: onto the field, and that's ninety percent of being a
- 15:06Speaker 5: backup quarterback. Did the guys around you believing and I
- 15:08Speaker 5: think they're going to both of.
- 15:09Speaker 1: Them being very smart with the football in this preseason,
- 15:11Speaker 1: haven't seen interceptions from them, so that's been great as well.
- 15:14Speaker 8: Love to see clean football. Say what's here on jag xam.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Coming up after the break, we'll give you our hot
- 15:17Speaker 1: takes as we head into the regular season. He's the

- 15:37Speaker 4: I feel great about it.
- 15:38Speaker 9: We're on the same page as much or more than ever.
- 15:41Speaker 9: He's just the guy that works really hard and communicates
- 15:44Speaker 9: and wants to get better, and you know, we're just
- 15:46Speaker 9: we see things very similarly, and it's cool to see
- 15:49Speaker 9: it pay off the guy that works that hard, it's
- 15:51Speaker 9: cool to see him to pay off for him.
- 15:54Speaker 4: So I'm excited for all.
- 15:56Speaker 9: I think we've expanded his role and he's like, as
- 15:59Speaker 9: you guys have seen, he's doing more. Yeah, so it's
- 16:01Speaker 9: just gonna help us. So it's cool to see deferments TYRL.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Lawrence postgame talking about that connection he has with Evan Ingram.
- 16:08Speaker 8: Things all looking good too.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Touchdowns in that preseason matchup, and now we're looking ahead
- 16:12Speaker 1: to the regular season. So we've got a couple of
- 16:13Speaker 1: hot takes for you. Brian, Where are you going with yours?
- 16:15Speaker 3: I think this is the best roster of the Jaguars
- 16:17Speaker 3: have fielded since nineteen ninety nine, which is the best
- 16:20Speaker 3: single season record the Jaguars ever had fourteen to two
- 16:23Speaker 3: when they hosted the AFC title game. So I'm saying
- 16:26Speaker 3: they're better than the seven team. I'm saying they're better
- 16:29Speaker 3: than the seventeen team. And they're better because they have
- 16:32Speaker 3: a better quarterback than in either of those seasons.
- 16:34Speaker 4: Now, oh, seven, you had Fred.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Taylor and Maurice Jones drew right, but in every other
- 16:39Speaker 3: way you're better. I think you're better up front on
- 16:42Speaker 3: both lines. I think you're better. You don't have Rasheen Mappis,
- 16:45Speaker 3: but I think Tyson Campbell is a guy who is
- 16:48Speaker 3: comparable to Rashid doesn't have the takeaways. I just think
- 16:51Speaker 3: that this team is better than O seven in that sense.
- 16:53Speaker 3: I think they're more varied. They've got better pass rushers.
- 16:56Speaker 3: You don't have Stroud and Henderson, and Stroud was gone
- 17:00Speaker 3: by the time we got to November, so it was
- 17:01Speaker 3: just Henderson.
- 17:03Speaker 4: But I'll give the edge to this team. And then
- 17:05Speaker 4: in seventeen.
- 17:06Speaker 3: You don't have a Jalen Ramsey on defense, but I
- 17:08Speaker 3: think you match up with your outside guys. I mean,
- 17:12Speaker 3: you've got the best pass single season pass rusher in
- 17:14Speaker 3: your franchise's history, and John just talked about what Trayvon
- 17:18Speaker 3: gives you. And of course you're better at quarterback, and
- 17:22Speaker 3: I'll take etn and big speed.
- 17:23Speaker 4: I mean, I'm.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Projecting a little because that was one year that Leonard
- 17:26Speaker 3: Fournette was really, really good. But I think you're better
- 17:28Speaker 3: at receiver. I think you're better in a whole lot
- 17:30Speaker 3: of places. So I think this is the best roster
- 17:34Speaker 3: on paper since nineteen ninety nine.
- 17:36Speaker 5: Yeah, it'd be very interesting to see if this front
- 17:41Speaker 5: that we praised earlier can be as good as at
- 17:46Speaker 5: seventeen front. I mean it, Claius and Dante, it broke
- 17:53Speaker 5: up so fast that it was almost like watching the
- 17:56Speaker 5: meteor across the sky.
- 17:57Speaker 3: And get Marcel Darius in the middle. But I mean,
- 17:59Speaker 3: I think Devon Hamilton health abruptive.
- 18:01Speaker 6: That's sort of the as the plateau to get to.
- 18:05Speaker 6: I think this team can do it.
- 18:07Speaker 5: And again, to me, that and Trevor Lawrence being better
- 18:12Speaker 5: in big situations is the key to the whole season.
- 18:16Speaker 5: My hot take is that the depth is real, and
- 18:19Speaker 5: that's not that hot a take.
- 18:20Speaker 6: We've seen it all pre season.
- 18:22Speaker 5: But it takes time when you're building something, which Doug
- 18:27Speaker 5: and Trent started building this in twenty twenty two, It
- 18:31Speaker 5: takes time to get depth. It takes time to get
- 18:34Speaker 5: the right guys in positions. But to me, this team
- 18:38Speaker 5: is the deepest that I've seen around here, maybe since
- 18:40Speaker 5: I got back in twenty eleven. I mean it, when
- 18:43Speaker 5: you talk about the corners, you can get down to
- 18:47Speaker 5: Mac Jones is obvious depth. You feel like any receiver
- 18:52Speaker 5: you put in the game.
- 18:53Speaker 6: Can be productive. I don't know if you've felt that
- 18:55Speaker 6: way all the time in the past.
- 18:56Speaker 5: So not just because they've three you o the past
- 19:01Speaker 5: two preseasons, but that's a little indicator. But it just
- 19:04Speaker 5: feels even linebacker, right, if a linebacker gets hurt this year,
- 19:10Speaker 5: you're not panicking. When Chad Mooman goes in, you feel like, okay,
- 19:13Speaker 5: well he can get you through. So there's not that
- 19:17Speaker 5: many spots where one injury is hold your breath, except
- 19:21Speaker 5: the obvious, which is Josh Allen and and not Tario Lawrence.
- 19:24Speaker 6: They're a franchise guys.
- 19:25Speaker 1: You know.
- 19:26Speaker 3: The story of the season I think is going to
- 19:27Speaker 3: play out because there will be guys from that twenty
- 19:30Speaker 3: twenty three draft class, that big draft class that we've
- 19:35Speaker 3: chronicled the story ull through camp, we'll have to go
- 19:37Speaker 3: in and play. And it feels as if the coaching
- 19:40Speaker 3: staff has these guys, especially some of those defensive guys
- 19:42Speaker 3: like Ben Treump ready to play.
- 19:44Speaker 4: You mentioned Trent and Doug. That's it.
- 19:47Speaker 3: It's drafting and developing, and I think they've done a
- 19:49Speaker 3: really good job and at the end of this year,
- 19:51Speaker 3: we're going to look back at that twenty twenty three
- 19:52Speaker 3: draft class and say it's a really important draft class
- 19:55Speaker 3: in franchise history.
- 19:56Speaker 5: Would it surprise you at all, either of you if
- 19:58Speaker 5: at the end of the season in Week seven team
- 20:02Speaker 5: of Intro Miller, Tank Bigsby, and Parker Washington have had
- 20:06Speaker 5: big roles for three or four games of the season,
- 20:10Speaker 5: that is pretty significantly different.
- 20:14Speaker 6: Than what we were talking about last summer.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Kind of think Breton Strange and Tyler Lacy are gonna
- 20:18Speaker 3: have moments this season too.
- 20:20Speaker 1: Telling a bounce. Now, it's just time to win for
- 20:23Speaker 1: my hot tache. I'm gonna focus a little bit on
- 20:25Speaker 1: the offense over the defense. I think the offense is
- 20:28Speaker 1: gonna come together first. It's not a slight on the defense.
- 20:30Speaker 1: It's just time for this offense. Trevor Lawrence has been
- 20:32Speaker 1: here for a while. He now has all the weapons
- 20:34Speaker 1: around him, has a starting a line that is healthy.
- 20:37Speaker 1: So if this team is gonna be successful this year,
- 20:38Speaker 1: they cannot do what they did last year, which is
- 20:40Speaker 1: start out cold and try to figure things out on
- 20:42Speaker 1: the fly.
- 20:42Speaker 8: They need to come.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Out and score early and often and get that rhythm going.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Get that, you know, get the rookie involved. In Brian
- 20:49Speaker 1: Thomas Junior his talents and get everything rolling so that
- 20:52Speaker 1: way when things get a little tougher middle of the year,
- 20:54Speaker 1: they have a late buy all that stuff. Things are
- 20:56Speaker 1: in motion and then when the defense can come around
- 20:58Speaker 1: and back it up.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Well, you were in the in the room last Thursday
- 21:01Speaker 3: when we talked to Trevor. That is clearly his intent.
- 21:04Speaker 3: That is clearly what he is focused on and motivated on.
- 21:09Speaker 3: He's an impressive guy, always has been since the day
- 21:11Speaker 3: he showed up, but there's just something different about him
- 21:13Speaker 3: in person this year. He's still pissed off about the
- 21:17Speaker 3: way last season ended. And for a guy who is
- 21:20Speaker 3: as laid back as he tends to come off as
- 21:24Speaker 3: in private, he sure doesn't seem that way.
- 21:25Speaker 6: To make well, there's got to be a feeling for
- 21:28Speaker 6: these guys. It's time the Trevor's heard it. There was
- 21:32Speaker 6: doubt after that after last season.
- 21:34Speaker 5: If they're gonna sign to the long term deal, the
- 21:37Speaker 5: pieces are in place around you. There has to be
- 21:40Speaker 5: a feeling from Trevor's point of view. If not now,
- 21:42Speaker 5: when I mean, and that's way too extreme. He's got
- 21:45Speaker 5: a long career ahead of him, but I think he
- 21:47Speaker 5: does feel like, you know what, let's go.
- 21:50Speaker 3: When he said this is the best team he's played on,
- 21:53Speaker 3: so take advantage of it.
- 21:55Speaker 8: Let's do it. Stay with us on jag Zam.
- 21:57Speaker 1: We're gonna go over some of the bubble players on
- 21:58Speaker 1: the roster, who we think.
- 21:59Speaker 8: Is in and who's out.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Jacks fans, if you want customize Daguars furniture for your home,
- 22:05Speaker 1: check out zipcheer dot com to rouse all the customizable options.
- 22:08Speaker 8: Zip Chair is furniture for fans.
- 22:12Speaker 7: Mac has played extremely well over the last couple of
- 22:14Speaker 7: weeks and really, you know, has bought into what we do.
- 22:20Speaker 7: And you know he'll still revert back to his his
- 22:24Speaker 7: his patriot ways every now and then, and we got
- 22:26Speaker 7: to remind him he's in Jacksonville.
- 22:28Speaker 4: But he's done a good job.
- 22:30Speaker 7: He's done a good job managing and running the offense,
- 22:32Speaker 7: getting everybody involved. You know, he sees the field well,
- 22:35Speaker 7: throws a good ball, so you know, he's done a
- 22:37Speaker 7: good job.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Ben Peter's been very happy with what he's seen from
- 22:41Speaker 1: Mac Jones. We think he's fully solidified his spot on
- 22:43Speaker 1: this roster, but question marks elsewhere as we're trying to
- 22:46Speaker 1: figure things out. So we're going to quickly go over
- 22:48Speaker 1: some of our bubble players and talk about whether we
- 22:50Speaker 1: think they're in or out alive to cook someone we've
- 22:52Speaker 1: talked about up for possible wide receiver six, But do
- 22:55Speaker 1: we think he's in or out?
- 22:56Speaker 4: I think he's out. I think Tim Jones is your
- 22:58Speaker 4: six because I have a special teams a bill.
- 23:00Speaker 6: Yeah, I completely.
- 23:03Speaker 8: Do you think he makes a practice squad or no?
- 23:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean he'll be on a practice squad. I
- 23:11Speaker 5: think the Jaguars will try to get him to their
- 23:13Speaker 5: practice squad. Sometimes if a guy has been around a
- 23:16Speaker 5: franchise for a year and gets another opportunity, they may see, Okay,
- 23:21Speaker 5: well I'm gonna go try it somewhere else.
- 23:23Speaker 6: But they like to have I.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Know they also like Austin Trammell. Seth Williams was on
- 23:28Speaker 3: the practice squad last year. They let him go yesterday,
- 23:31Speaker 3: so perhaps that freeze up for both of those guys
- 23:33Speaker 3: to be on the practice squad.
- 23:35Speaker 5: All right, John col Van Lamon, I don't have a
- 23:39Speaker 5: great feel for this one, but I think they will
- 23:41Speaker 5: try to keep enough offensive lineman to have him because
- 23:44Speaker 5: I think he's ready to play. I don't know that Foster,
- 23:47Speaker 5: who I think they need to keep I don't know
- 23:50Speaker 5: that he's gonna I don't know that they're gonna feel
- 23:52Speaker 5: like he's as ready right now.
- 23:54Speaker 6: So yeah, I think Van LaMDA makes it.
- 23:57Speaker 3: You know, I kind of flippantly we're like no last week,
- 24:00Speaker 3: and you asked if I thought that Cole Van Landon
- 24:02Speaker 3: would be at the top of the PFF. So I
- 24:05Speaker 3: went and did a little homework and talked to Jeff
- 24:07Speaker 3: Loghaman and Tony Biselli and a coach as well.
- 24:10Speaker 4: I think he makes it.
- 24:11Speaker 3: He apparently he has had a tremendous offseason and a
- 24:15Speaker 3: really good camp, came back strong, is varied, can play
- 24:18Speaker 3: inside or out, can play left or right. They are
- 24:21Speaker 3: really high on Cole Van Lannon around here, So I
- 24:23Speaker 3: say he makes it.
- 24:24Speaker 5: Well, this is a guy who's young, who they traded
- 24:26Speaker 5: for and who was worth a draft pick relatively recently.
- 24:31Speaker 6: So developed kudos.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Vel guy, Yeah to them and Phil Rauscher for taking
- 24:35Speaker 3: a young player who a lot of people just kind
- 24:38Speaker 3: of thought he's just a guy and turn him into
- 24:40Speaker 3: a guy who's more than a guy. You know, he
- 24:42Speaker 3: could be the next Tyler Shatley, that guy who shows
- 24:45Speaker 3: up here and then stays for ten years because he
- 24:47Speaker 3: can do a lot of different things.
- 24:48Speaker 1: I think that might be one of those position groups
- 24:50Speaker 1: as well where maybe you wanted to take nine and
- 24:52Speaker 1: then now Van Landon's your tenth guy, So that takes
- 24:54Speaker 1: someone away from you.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Because Foster's making this team. Yes, you can't expose a
- 24:58Speaker 3: fourth round pick and a young to tackle with his talent.
- 25:01Speaker 8: All right, John, how about tight ends? If uh Is
- 25:03Speaker 8: Daguar gonna make it, are they gonna take four?
- 25:06Speaker 5: I think so this is one of those where it
- 25:08Speaker 5: gets tough because he's an NFL tight end, he's an
- 25:12Speaker 5: NFL player. He's gonna he looks to me like guy's
- 25:15Speaker 5: gonna be lead in the league a long time. Do
- 25:17Speaker 5: they believe that if he's released they can get him
- 25:20Speaker 5: through to the practice squad and have him be a
- 25:23Speaker 5: guy that is a I call him lever guys.
- 25:26Speaker 6: You can bring him up there around. I kind of
- 25:29Speaker 6: think they keep four tight ends.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think they used him in the backfield
- 25:32Speaker 3: in Atlanta a couple of times, kind of like they
- 25:34Speaker 3: use Brenton Strange.
- 25:35Speaker 4: So he's at least on the practice squad, but he'll
- 25:37Speaker 4: be here.
- 25:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 25:38Speaker 5: I think he's one of those guys that fans forget
- 25:41Speaker 5: and I'm guilty of it too because they're not catching passes.
- 25:45Speaker 5: But he's a good player for what they need him
- 25:47Speaker 5: to do, and a tight end, much like Luke Ferrell,
- 25:52Speaker 5: can get lost in conversations because they don't have catches,
- 25:55Speaker 5: but be very valuable to the team.
- 25:57Speaker 1: Yes, and sometimes good when you don't hear about them
- 25:59Speaker 1: because it thinks they're throwing and just doing their job.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Let's look at the defensive line. Tyler Lacy secondor player.
- 26:05Speaker 1: They love him, but that's a crowded group. And if
- 26:07Speaker 1: we're talking about taking a spot over for offensive line,
- 26:11Speaker 1: you know you're looking at the defensive line.
- 26:12Speaker 8: Is there enough spots for everybody there?
- 26:14Speaker 3: I I wouldn't surprise me if they keep ten there
- 26:17Speaker 3: as well. Because Ryan Nielsen has said repeatedly that he's
- 26:19Speaker 3: gonna bring guys in in waves. It doesn't matter. The
- 26:22Speaker 3: starter is only the starter for the first play of
- 26:23Speaker 3: the game. According to Nielsen, he wants to do things.
- 26:26Speaker 3: Lacey absolutely is here.
- 26:29Speaker 5: Yeah, he was better last year than people thought for
- 26:33Speaker 5: a defensive interior lineman relatively low drafted. He's good to
- 26:37Speaker 5: be getting snaps as a rookie like that. I think
- 26:41Speaker 5: he's definitely here and I think he's gonna.
- 26:42Speaker 4: Matter, and I think both the rookies from LSU make
- 26:44Speaker 4: it as well.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Yes, I think there's a focus on the younger players
- 26:47Speaker 1: that they're developing themselves. We saw Trevis Gibson traded earlier
- 26:51Speaker 1: today to the Seahawks.
- 26:52Speaker 8: That frees up a spot.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Obviously talent talented in camp, but if they're focusing more
- 26:56Speaker 1: on the younger they're guys absolutely, and the guys they
- 26:58Speaker 1: drafted all right. Final guy I got for you. I'm
- 27:01Speaker 1: not sure if he's a full bubble guy, but what
- 27:03Speaker 1: this means for the group as a whole. DeAndre Prince,
- 27:05Speaker 1: who's had a great camp. I know he's one of
- 27:06Speaker 1: your favorites, Brian.
- 27:07Speaker 3: I just I love the kid, his confidence, his belief,
- 27:11Speaker 3: and he's made plays both on the practice field and
- 27:14Speaker 3: on the game field. Kay, you talked to him when
- 27:17Speaker 3: he first showed up, right, and John you've talked to
- 27:20Speaker 3: him as well. When you look at this guy, he
- 27:21Speaker 3: just looks like an NFL corner. He's got the broad
- 27:23Speaker 3: shoulders and the long arms, and he's got what you
- 27:25Speaker 3: want plus the mindset to go with it.
- 27:28Speaker 4: He makes this team.
- 27:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I think they like their young corners. They've been
- 27:33Speaker 5: trying to draft that for the last couple of years
- 27:35Speaker 5: and get better, faster, younger.
- 27:37Speaker 6: There. I think they've done it. He's on the team,
- 27:39Speaker 6: Jarhan Jones obviously, and Montera Brown.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Yeah, what about Christian braswell? Right, I mean I wonder
- 27:47Speaker 3: if they've got enough room for all these young corners,
- 27:49Speaker 3: and if Montera Brown it might not be on the
- 27:53Speaker 3: bubble practice squad.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, those will be the questions you draft and
- 27:57Speaker 1: develop now, so you got to stick with the young
- 27:59Speaker 1: guys for sure.
- 28:00Speaker 8: We'll keep an eye on things.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Cut Down Day is tomorrow at four pm, and then
- 28:04Speaker 1: next week regular season week one.
- 28:06Speaker 8: So we're very excited. Enjoy your week. We'll see you
- 28:08Speaker 8: next week and cut
- 28:09Speaker 1: Down to date is tomorrow at four pm.
