- 0:00Speaker 1: Wow, do I look at that bad? It's one more
- 0:01Speaker 1: thing more. I'm strong and getty one more.
- 0:09Speaker 2: So. I had a funny thing happened at the country
- 0:12Speaker 2: club yesterday. So I live in a town that doesn't
- 0:18Speaker 2: believe rich people should have things that poor people don't have.
- 0:23Speaker 2: So they structure the housing in such a way that
- 0:28Speaker 2: you can live in the nicest neighborhood in the town
- 0:31Speaker 2: I live in, like with the most expensive you know, however,
- 0:35Speaker 2: many millions of dollars houses, but there is going to
- 0:38Speaker 2: be an apartment complex right over there because they don't
- 0:40Speaker 2: think it's fair that, you know, certain people have certain
- 0:43Speaker 2: And I guess some parts of the country think this
- 0:45Speaker 2: is a good idea.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Other parts of the country thing this is a ridiculous idea.
- 0:48Speaker 3: I would be in the way. I certainly wouldn't live there.
- 0:50Speaker 3: I don't like four people anywhere.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Near me anyway. I think that explains how this happened.
- 0:55Speaker 2: So with this particular neighborhood that's got some really really
- 0:59Speaker 2: nice houses in it, everybody that lives in this neighborhood
- 1:02Speaker 2: gets a country club membership with you own the house
- 1:04Speaker 2: or you're in an apartment complex, and so everybody gets
- 1:06Speaker 2: to be a member of this country club. For whatever reason,
- 1:09Speaker 2: hardly anybody uses aunch country club. A friend of mine
- 1:12Speaker 2: is on the board and he said, of the two
- 1:14Speaker 2: thousand people or something that qualify, there's only like sixty people.
- 1:17Speaker 1: That use it, which is fine with me.
- 1:20Speaker 4: Golf course and that sort of thing, or no, what
- 1:22Speaker 4: sort of amenities are you offering me.
- 1:24Speaker 2: It's a lake where a lot of people paddle around,
- 1:26Speaker 2: canoes and stuff like that. Nice tennis courts lit at night,
- 1:31Speaker 2: basketball court, a gym to work out, couple of heated
- 1:35Speaker 2: pools where you can swim laps and stuff like that. Oh,
- 1:38Speaker 2: and then a big room you can put your name
- 1:41Speaker 2: on it if you want to have a family reunion
- 1:43Speaker 2: or a wedding or whatever. There's a lot of that
- 1:45Speaker 2: stuff going on all the time. Anyhow, my son and
- 1:49Speaker 2: I go over and we play tennis and then we
- 1:50Speaker 2: lift weight. So we're over there playing tennis, and I,
- 1:53Speaker 2: while I do spend a fair amount of time and
- 1:57Speaker 2: money on how I dress for just like my regular life,
- 2:00Speaker 2: I do not have like nice ath leisure wear at all.
- 2:06Speaker 2: And I got my big five old hoodie on and
- 2:09Speaker 2: some khaki pants and my kind of crappy tennis shoes
- 2:12Speaker 2: for playing tennis in and uh playing tennis and Kakaki.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Pants lost me at Khaki's.
- 2:19Speaker 4: As opposed to what short warm up pants.
- 2:26Speaker 3: You don't wear khakis to play tennis.
- 2:28Speaker 4: You rule.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Anyway, My son and I are playing tennis and uh,
- 2:33Speaker 2: and there's four guys next to us playing tennis. And
- 2:38Speaker 2: at one point, Henry hits an errant shot and it
- 2:41Speaker 2: goes over to their court by accident, and guy hits
- 2:46Speaker 2: the ball over to me and and then I said thanks,
- 2:49Speaker 2: and I'm walking back over. And then he said, hey,
- 2:51Speaker 2: hold on a second, and he goes over to his
- 2:52Speaker 2: bag and he comes over and he gives me, he said,
- 2:55Speaker 2: these you used, but they still got a lot of
- 2:56Speaker 2: bounce left in him. He gives me a canister of
- 2:59Speaker 2: three used tennis ball. Ah. Yes, I'm thinking, oh my god.
- 3:06Speaker 4: I mean, a man so poor he has to wear
- 3:11Speaker 4: khakis to play tennis. Yeah, were you wearing cowboy boots
- 3:15Speaker 4: as well?
- 3:16Speaker 3: Or did.
- 3:18Speaker 2: It?
- 3:18Speaker 3: And something with rubber souls?
- 3:20Speaker 1: I just I was so perplexed there for a second.
- 3:23Speaker 1: It's like.
- 3:25Speaker 2: And one it was There's a number of things going
- 3:28Speaker 2: on in my mind that this at this verious time,
- 3:31Speaker 2: I gotta admit my ego kick. I didn't say anything,
- 3:33Speaker 2: but my ego kicked in a little bit of dude,
- 3:36Speaker 2: I'm doing all right.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I don't mean your old tennis balls.
- 3:39Speaker 4: I can afford a can of tennis balls.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Thank you, the peasant and the khaki put them.
- 3:44Speaker 5: Going to do my good charitable deed and give him
- 3:46Speaker 5: my old tennis exactly.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I also thought, on the other side of it, this
- 3:50Speaker 2: is something some of us may do and not realize
- 3:53Speaker 2: how condescending it is.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I mean, because he just sawt he was helping.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Me out, and it's got a real I'm rich and
- 3:59Speaker 2: I don't need the ten balls here.
- 4:00Speaker 1: You'll appreciate they've still got some bounce at them.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Man.
- 4:05Speaker 4: I can picture me playing golf with my son and
- 4:07Speaker 4: somebody walking up and putting the arm around me and saying,
- 4:10Speaker 4: here's a sleeve of balls.
- 4:12Speaker 3: Brother.
- 4:12Speaker 4: You know they're lightly used, but I can tell you
- 4:15Speaker 4: need that.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Well.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I didn't say that last time. I think that's implied.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I think, oh, I absolutely implied.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Yes, Why why else would he give him to you?
- 4:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm picturing this guy like he bounces the ball
- 4:27Speaker 4: five times and then after that he throws it away,
- 4:29Speaker 4: you know, and gets a new one.
- 4:30Speaker 1: And bounces it by this guy doing a nice thing.
- 4:32Speaker 2: In case this gets back to him, I don't think
- 4:34Speaker 2: he does anything bad about it at all.
- 4:36Speaker 3: Oh no, No, it was an act of kindness.
- 4:39Speaker 5: And I think worse would have been if like he
- 4:40Speaker 5: had a child with him, and he had the child
- 4:42Speaker 5: come and give the tennis balls to you, teaching him
- 4:44Speaker 5: a nice deed.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Well, that's so.
- 4:45Speaker 2: I told this story to a friend of mine who
- 4:48Speaker 2: thought this was hilarious and said, he's probably at a
- 4:50Speaker 2: home telling his wife. I did a nice deed today.
- 4:53Speaker 2: I helped a guy out. He looked like good like,
- 4:57Speaker 2: he looked like he was really down on his luck.
- 4:58Speaker 2: It's probably his one morning a week he gets to
- 5:01Speaker 2: be with his son, having recovered from his drug addiction.
- 5:05Speaker 2: And I gave him some tennis balls so that he
- 5:07Speaker 2: could enjoy his outing with his kid.
- 5:09Speaker 1: That he's trying to write, write and do better than
- 5:11Speaker 1: he did.
- 5:13Speaker 4: I came across a fellow today, Honey, I can only
- 5:16Speaker 4: guess he only has one pair of pants for work,
- 5:19Speaker 4: for play for leisure, just one pair of khakis, who's
- 5:23Speaker 4: actually playing tennis in his khakis with his son. And
- 5:25Speaker 4: I took pity I wish I'd had a granola bar,
- 5:30Speaker 4: a crust of bread.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Dolphin can only assume that he and his son are
- 5:35Speaker 3: stuff you should You should own this.
- 5:38Speaker 2: He clearly got his workout gear at the halfway House
- 5:42Speaker 2: before he came for his visitation with his son.
- 5:44Speaker 5: Just keep keep going more and more tattered, and then
- 5:48Speaker 5: see what kind of things you accumulate.
- 5:50Speaker 4: Put holes in those khakis, right.
- 5:53Speaker 1: People give me food and my drink and an old car.
- 5:56Speaker 4: Drive the show of a dress shirt and say, son,
- 6:02Speaker 4: don't run me too much.
- 6:03Speaker 3: I only own this shirt. See what the people are
- 6:08Speaker 3: saying to Oh my.
- 6:10Speaker 2: God, And I did actually think I have I ever
- 6:13Speaker 2: done that where I think I'm like being helpful whatever,
- 6:15Speaker 2: But it's so condescending to someone to here's some old
- 6:19Speaker 2: tennis balls.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Huh. Yeah, you don't need to thank me. I'm happy
- 6:24Speaker 1: to do it.
- 6:29Speaker 2: That's beautiful, I know, I know, well and again well intentioned,
- 6:34Speaker 2: completely intentioned. Seriously, yes, it's nice, just kind of funny.
- 6:42Speaker 4: You know, here's five dollars to put in the tank
- 6:45Speaker 4: to get you and your son home or back to
- 6:47Speaker 4: the halfway house wherever you find yourself these days.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Do you think you'll run into him?
- 6:52Speaker 3: Again, I don't know. I guess if you do, he
- 6:55Speaker 3: might be waiting for you with like old clothes.
- 6:57Speaker 1: You know, I think these would fit you. I come
- 7:00Speaker 1: with some leftover castle roll here. My wife married this
- 7:03Speaker 1: last night.
- 7:05Speaker 4: If the cardboard box, I'm guessing you live and never
- 7:08Speaker 4: gets threadbare. I play every Tuesday at four. Just come
- 7:11Speaker 4: and ask me for twenty dollars.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Here are some socks. They're not too worn.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I guess that's it.
