- 0:00SPEAKER_01: Nobody has it all figured out.
- 0:02SPEAKER_01: Nobody has it all together.
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: Welcome to That Explains A Lot.
- 0:07SPEAKER_01: Real conversations about this messy, magical life.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: We talk about the things that don't make sense until suddenly they do.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: And we had liftoff.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: We're in.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: We're in.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: So welcome to this first episode of That Explains a Lot.
- 0:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: I'm Susan Patrick.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: And I am Natalie Ledwell.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: And we are super excited that you are here listening to us in this,
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: what will be a messy and magical conversation.
- 0:35SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:35So this is our very first jaunt together,
- 0:38our very first episode together.
- 0:41SPEAKER_03: So we wanted to start by explaining to you how this all came about.
- 0:47SPEAKER_03: why we're here, what the hell is going on?
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: What is going on?
- 0:53And I love it did start with a very simple phone call when
- 0:56Natalie called and said,
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: Susan,
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: I want to play and have fun.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: And I was like,
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: yeah,
- 1:02let's play and let's have fun because I think life needs a
- 1:06little bit more of that
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: right now.
- 1:08SPEAKER_03: Well, let's be honest.
- 1:09I mentioned it a couple of times before you called back and
- 1:12went,
- 1:12wait a minute.
- 1:13SPEAKER_03: Now I've heard you.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Let's do this.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it took me a couple times to hear the message.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: You know, I think about that in life.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: How many times people are trying to give you the message.
- 1:23SPEAKER_01: And it's like, finally, I had to go, okay, Nat.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: So you've said this a couple times.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: And then your next line was, I want to play and I want to have some fun.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: And I was like, let's do it.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: So the reason,
- 1:37so Susan and I actually met through an organization called the
- 1:42Association of
- 1:42SPEAKER_03: Transformational Leaders.
- 1:44SPEAKER_03: That's how we got to know it.
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: I feel like there should be a sound effect there.
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: So we've known each other for maybe 15 years.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: So quite a long time.
- 1:56And the reason that I was reaching out to her and had the idea
- 2:00about doing
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: something together is that,
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 2:03SPEAKER_03: most of you will know me through my other company,
- 2:05SPEAKER_03: Mind Movies,
- 2:06where I've been teaching manifestation and positive thinking
- 2:11and training coaches
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: for 18 years.
- 2:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:15SPEAKER_03: And we've reached millions and millions of people.
- 2:17And lately there's been something,
- 2:20and I kind of want to say it's like a yearning.
- 2:24SPEAKER_03: It feels a little bit like indigestion, you know.
- 2:28SPEAKER_03: And I'm taking Tums and it's not going away.
- 2:31SPEAKER_03: So I'm thinking...
- 2:32SPEAKER_03: Maybe there's something here,
- 2:34but there's been a big shift in the personal development
- 2:38industry and we've all
- 2:39SPEAKER_03: been talking about it.
- 2:41And it seems that the way that we have done business up until
- 2:45this point worked
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: great guns for the longest time.
- 2:49SPEAKER_03: And we were definitely the postage children for,
- 2:51SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 2:51SPEAKER_03: all of the marketing and all the emails and all of that.
- 2:55SPEAKER_03: But that doesn't seem to be working anymore.
- 2:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:58And people want something different and there's a different
- 3:01feeling that's emerging
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: or a different quality of experience that's emerging.
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: Well, that's the point.
- 3:07SPEAKER_03: I think it's experience that people are really yearning for.
- 3:11SPEAKER_03: And so within these conversations...
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: I think part of what's been coming up is that,
- 3:18SPEAKER_03: and especially in conversations I've had with,
- 3:20SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 3:20SPEAKER_03: clients of mind movies,
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: they go,
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: we know what you're doing.
- 3:23Like we know that when you say this and you're putting on the
- 3:26scarcity and the fake
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: whatever,
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: like we get it.
- 3:28SPEAKER_03: We understand.
- 3:29SPEAKER_03: They can see the strategies now.
- 3:32SPEAKER_03: And so what I feel like is people are really asking for is that they want
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: connection and they want community.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: I had been the teacher, you know, the coach for a very long time.
- 3:49But the subject that we want to address in this particular
- 3:52podcast is really about
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: what it's like to be a woman at this time of our life.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this is not my mother's midlife, right?
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: It's a completely different world, a completely different game.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: And I think
- 4:06thinking about how I want to play it moving forward and that
- 4:10word play and have fun
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: and experience and connect and generous.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: I think those were all the things that brought this together.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: And we don't, we don't want to be teachers or gurus.
- 4:22SPEAKER_03: That's not what we're doing here.
- 4:24We want to open up like a sacred container,
- 4:27whereas women,
- 4:28we can connect and we can talk
- 4:30I mean,
- 4:30we don't have all the answers when it comes to menopause and
- 4:34midlife.
- 4:35And everything is,
- 4:36like you said,
- 4:37Susan,
- 4:37so different to when our mothers were this age.
- 4:40SPEAKER_03: And we're navigating this for the first time.
- 4:42SPEAKER_03: So we thought we'd just – this is a bit of a hunch.
- 4:46SPEAKER_03: This is me trusting my intuition and going, I think that community –
- 4:52and conversation is really what I want to be a part of and that
- 4:57I want to help to create.
- 4:59SPEAKER_03: And so that's kind of why we're here.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: And that's what I want to create.
- 5:03And so we're excited that you're here to be a part of this
- 5:06first podcast and really
- 5:09thinking about what are we doing here in our midlife and what
- 5:13do we want the rest
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: of it to look like?
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: And more importantly, what do we want the rest of it to feel like?
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: You know,
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: to give a little bit of background about me,
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: I've been doing something for the past 20 plus years that's been great,
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: but I'm really ready to let it go.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: And I'm really rediscovering who I want to be.
- 5:33And the more I talk to women,
- 5:35the more I'm finding that that's a common denominator.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: We don't have it all figured out in our 50s.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: We've got a lot figured out,
- 5:44but we're still figuring it out and we're finding and we're
- 5:48discovering what's
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: next.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: What do we want next?
- 5:52SPEAKER_03: Well,
- 5:53SPEAKER_03: the way,
- 5:53SPEAKER_03: as I was mentioning before,
- 5:54Susan and I met through an organization called the Association
- 5:57of Transformation
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: Leaders.
- 5:59SPEAKER_03: And we've known each other for 15 years,
- 6:01but we haven't been close for that length of time because I was
- 6:04a little bit of a
- 6:04SPEAKER_03: hard nut to crack in the beginning.
- 6:07Yeah.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: I kept trying to crack it.
- 6:13So when I first joined that organization,
- 6:16it was really towards the end of my marriage.
- 6:19SPEAKER_03: And I was so unhappy in my marriage.
- 6:23But you know when you're in something like that and from the
- 6:25outside looking in,
- 6:26SPEAKER_03: everything looked great.
- 6:27SPEAKER_03: Everything looked amazing.
- 6:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:29SPEAKER_03: People were like, oh, you guys have the best relationship.
- 6:31SPEAKER_03: And we did.
- 6:31SPEAKER_03: We had a great life.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: We traveled.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: I was fulfilled with what I was doing, but I was desperately unhappy.
- 6:41SPEAKER_03: And I didn't want to let anyone close because if I let them in,
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: they would see past the facade and realize there was nothing under there.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: And I was just, you know.
- 6:51SPEAKER_03: And, of course, you know, I had this feeling like, well,
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: I'm the mind movies lady.
- 6:56SPEAKER_03: I'm supposed to have all my shit together.
- 6:58SPEAKER_03: I'm supposed to have all the answers.
- 7:01SPEAKER_03: And I was kind of flailing.
- 7:03SPEAKER_03: So it wasn't until my husband and I separated that I really started to
- 7:09intentionally form these incredibly enriching and amazing
- 7:15girlfriend relationships.
- 7:17SPEAKER_03: Susan was one of those women.
- 7:19SPEAKER_03: And it has absolutely changed my life.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:22And I think that that giving giving ourselves permission to be
- 7:26in the reinvention.
- 7:27I think there's this paradigm in this story that you're
- 7:31supposed to have it all
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: together and you're supposed to know all the answers.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: And that's I just don't think that it's not true.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: It's not true for anybody that I've talked to.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: Nobody has it all figured out.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: Nobody has it all together.
- 7:46And so it's surrendering that and being humble and opening
- 7:52yourself up so that we
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: can create some real connections that can create some pivots,
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: that can create some energy,
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: that can help us to more fully kind of embrace this messy,
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: and I love our tagline,
- 8:05SPEAKER_01: this messy,
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: magical life.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: And that's, I think, what it is that we're doing.
- 8:11SPEAKER_03: I know.
- 8:11SPEAKER_03: I remember having a moment maybe a year ago,
- 8:14SPEAKER_03: it was a girl's dinner at my girlfriend Melanie's house.
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: And there was a group of us there,
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: all women,
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: we're just chatting,
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: having a glass of wine.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: And the conversation was around what I call the doona dance.
- 8:27SPEAKER_03: So a doona is like a,
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: yeah,
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: a doona in Australia,
- 8:31SPEAKER_03: we call it a doona,
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: but it's like a duvet,
- 8:33SPEAKER_03: like a,
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: like the blanket on the bed,
- 8:36SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 8:36SPEAKER_03: the heavy,
- 8:37SPEAKER_03: heavy blanket.
- 8:38SPEAKER_03: So,
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: the doona dance is when,
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 8:40SPEAKER_03: you,
- 8:41SPEAKER_03: you first,
- 8:41SPEAKER_03: you start underneath the doona,
- 8:43SPEAKER_03: but then you have to put one leg out and then you have to throw.
- 8:45the whole thing off and then you have to pull a little bit back
- 8:48again and so you're
- 8:49going so we were nearly peeing ourselves laughing about the
- 8:54whole doona dance
- 8:55situation and i'm like this is where we're at right now i'm
- 8:58like here's my i'm at a
- 8:59dinner party and this is the conversation topic you can do the
- 9:02dance if you want to
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: you can leave your marriage behind no
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: Because if the do, no, don't dance and the do, no, don't.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: No, sorry.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: I don't know why I went into song.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 9:16SPEAKER_03: So these are the kind of conversations that we want to open up to.
- 9:20SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:22SPEAKER_03: And I'm hoping that with the community that we create,
- 9:26SPEAKER_03: that within that community that you will find friendships.
- 9:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: That you'll find,
- 9:32SPEAKER_03: because,
- 9:32SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 9:33maybe there are not people in your life that you can have these
- 9:36conversations with,
- 9:37SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 9:38SPEAKER_03: or maybe not at this level or this,
- 9:41SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 9:42SPEAKER_03: these particular topics.
- 9:43So we really want to make sure that you have a space where it's
- 9:47safe for you to
- 9:49SPEAKER_03: laugh and to cry and to share.
- 9:51SPEAKER_03: And that by doing that, we realize that we're not alone.
- 9:54SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: I'm not alone.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: And I think that statement,
- 9:59I think that we're living in a world where we're supposedly
- 10:02supposed to be more
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: connected than ever before,
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: but people are feeling lonelier,
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: a depth of loneliness that is profound.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: And so really leveraging technologies like this,
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: conversations like this,
- 10:15spaces like this for people to have more genuine connection so
- 10:19that it can,
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: we just,
- 10:21I want a little more energy in my life and I want other people
- 10:24to have more energy
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: in their life.
- 10:26And,
- 10:26and I think that's,
- 10:27that's what,
- 10:28what all of this is,
- 10:29is,
- 10:29is promoting and desiring.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: I call it a joy jolt, right?
- 10:34Bring a little,
- 10:35we need to just,
- 10:35you know,
- 10:36kind of bring a little more energy in.
- 10:39SPEAKER_03: I love your joy jolts.
- 10:42SPEAKER_03: They're way better in person, but, you know.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: They are.
- 10:45My son's now adopted doing the joy jolts and he's 14 and
- 10:48sometimes they're a little hard.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:51SPEAKER_03: Well, if you need back practice, it's kind of a good thing.
- 10:56And I think that also that a lot of the women that I have been
- 10:59working with through
- 11:00SPEAKER_03: the My Movies community,
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: we feel like we're kind of at this stage in life where –
- 11:07A lot of us have that feeling,
- 11:09not indigestion,
- 11:10but of there's something different.
- 11:13SPEAKER_03: There's something else.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: Like I remember at the end of my marriage,
- 11:17SPEAKER_03: I was getting this message coming in that was like,
- 11:19SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 11:20SPEAKER_03: you're wasting time.
- 11:21SPEAKER_03: I'm like, I don't know what that means.
- 11:22SPEAKER_03: You know, I've got this amazing business and I'm helping to change lives.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: Like what could that possibly mean?
- 11:28SPEAKER_03: And I think that once my marriage ended –
- 11:32SPEAKER_03: The big question I kept asking myself was, well, who am I?
- 11:35SPEAKER_03: I don't even know who I am without him.
- 11:37SPEAKER_03: Like, you know, who am I without, you know, being Glenn and Nat.
- 11:41SPEAKER_03: There was been that like for 18 years.
- 11:44SPEAKER_03: And then I shifted the question,
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: which is what we want to explore here with you all as well,
- 11:51SPEAKER_03: is not specifically who am I,
- 11:53SPEAKER_03: but who do I want to be?
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:56SPEAKER_03: Because, you know, we're, you know, I'm a doer.
- 11:59SPEAKER_03: I'm a GSD.
- 12:00SPEAKER_03: I get shit done.
- 12:00SPEAKER_03: Like it's, you know, you give me a doer.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: You do get shit done now.
- 12:06SPEAKER_03: I'm like, right, here is the SOP.
- 12:09SPEAKER_03: Here is the 15 steps.
- 12:10SPEAKER_03: We need to get it done.
- 12:11SPEAKER_03: But now I'm really asking the question, well, who am I being?
- 12:15SPEAKER_03: Who do I want to be?
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: And so as you say that,
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: taking that deep breath,
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: and I just heard this on another podcast,
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: which I loved,
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: because the B is eternal and the B is internal.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: And the B isn't about what's on the outside.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: It really is that...
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: And I think this is the gift of this part of midlife is it is,
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: if you use it really well,
- 12:40you get to really look at yourself in a way that you haven't
- 12:44been able to ever look
- 12:45at yourself because life was moving so fast and there were so
- 12:49many other things you
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: were tending to and,
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: marriages you were taking care of,
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: babies you were taking care of,
- 12:55SPEAKER_01: businesses that you were taking care of.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: And now there's this unique moment where you're, well, who do I be?
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: Who do I desire to be?
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:03And breathing into that from a space of like feeling expanded
- 13:07and joyful rather
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: than,
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: my God,
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: I,
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: that heaviness.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: And I don't know about any of you that are listening,
- 13:15SPEAKER_03: but I know for me,
- 13:16SPEAKER_03: I was having major moments of self-doubt.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: I'm like, I don't know if I can do this.
- 13:23SPEAKER_03: I don't know if I can step into this.
- 13:24SPEAKER_03: I don't like,
- 13:25SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 13:25I haven't done this before or it was something that was outside
- 13:28my comfort zone.
- 13:29SPEAKER_03: So I was like, you know, really beating myself up about it intensely.
- 13:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 13:35And the only thing really that helped me get out of that was to
- 13:38intentionally
- 13:39SPEAKER_03: surround myself with amazing,
- 13:41incredible women who I respected and looked up to so that they
- 13:45could keep reminding
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: me,
- 13:46SPEAKER_03: no,
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: Nat,
- 13:47SPEAKER_03: you've got this.
- 13:48yeah yeah and that this is a community where people can we're
- 13:51going to remind each
- 13:52other yeah right that a what you're going through is normal but
- 13:56we're living in an
- 13:57abnormal world and so that's what's going to make it messy and
- 14:01really coming to a
- 14:02space where we can have i love you know that explains a lot to
- 14:06me is the energy
- 14:07behind when you get to that moment energetically and you and
- 14:11something clicks
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: inside of you and you go
- 14:14oh that that moment of oh that explains a lot that's why that
- 14:20the podcast is named
- 14:21that because it is that moment of oh and you feel more
- 14:25integrated with yourself and
- 14:27and that we're not looking for explanation outside of ourselves
- 14:30we're really
- 14:32inviting greater permission to explore the being of ourself
- 14:36yeah so we can go oh
- 14:38SPEAKER_03: that explains a lot and even understanding how physically
- 14:44SPEAKER_03: We are going through different things.
- 14:45Like the last time I thought that explains a lot was when
- 14:49actually one of my
- 14:49SPEAKER_03: neighbors sent me an article about how our brains are completely rewiring
- 14:55SPEAKER_03: themselves at this time of our life because we don't need to be fully,
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 15:01multitasking anymore with the kids and the husband and the job
- 15:03and the thing.
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: We don't need to do all of that anymore.
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: So it's rewiring for who we are becoming at this time of our life.
- 15:10SPEAKER_03: So I'm like, ah, that explains a lot.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: That explains it.
- 15:15Because I could sit down at my computer sometimes and go,
- 15:17for three hours.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: Is this thing on?
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: I can't do my thoughts together.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: I'm like, is this thing on?
- 15:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: Hello.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: Hello.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: Anyone in there?
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: I really,
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: I think that for me,
- 15:33one of the things I really appreciated about bringing this
- 15:36conversation to light
- 15:38was it felt so validating for me to be sitting with you who
- 15:43it's really easy to
- 15:44look at the person sitting next to you and see their shiny life
- 15:48and see what
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: they've been up to and build up such a story that,
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: oh,
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: they've got it all together.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, they've got it all figured out.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, I should be.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: And so I think that I love the transparency.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: I love the honesty.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: I love the, I don't know.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: And so there's this almost permission to be in wonder.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: Like, let's get back to wonder in our lives.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Remember when we were younger, there was a feeling of like, what's next?
- 16:17And I'm like,
- 16:18that's what I want this community to bring out more of in me.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: And what I want to inspire in the energy of these conversations is more
- 16:27wonder around what's next whoa what I wonder what's around the
- 16:32corner I wonder and
- 16:34and that it I mean we're living in an exciting time but we're
- 16:38living in a messy
- 16:39time yeah and and so how can we stand in all of the heaviness
- 16:44of of this world in
- 16:45wonder yeah and the technology we have at our fingertips is a
- 16:49blessing and a curse
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's both, you know.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: It's both.
- 16:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: That's why this is not my mother's menopause.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:56SPEAKER_01: You know,
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: I have tools at my disposal,
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: but there's also other things that my mom never had to deal with.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: The women who came before us that didn't have to deal with.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: And so I think one of the strongest things that we have,
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: like never before,
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: is community and authentic connection and experience.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: We have access in a way,
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: digitally,
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: through these platforms like this,
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: these types of conversations,
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: that's exciting.
- 17:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: And I think,
- 17:26SPEAKER_03: too,
- 17:26SPEAKER_03: because I think in general,
- 17:29SPEAKER_03: we're all going through a bit of an identity shredding.
- 17:32SPEAKER_03: Like, you know, we're shedding, sorry.
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: We're shedding this identity of who we were before,
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: what was important to us,
- 17:38SPEAKER_03: what was more meaningful,
- 17:39SPEAKER_03: because what's meaningful to us now is different.
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: It's different to what it used to be.
- 17:44SPEAKER_03: Um,
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: and I think for us to become this version,
- 17:49SPEAKER_03: even though we have no idea what that is yet,
- 17:51SPEAKER_03: there is going to be a little bit of an unraveling.
- 17:53SPEAKER_03: There's going to be a little bit of a messy,
- 17:56SPEAKER_03: magical,
- 17:57SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 17:57SPEAKER_03: transition that we go through to get to that point.
- 18:01And that's why I think a community like this is going to be
- 18:03really important
- 18:05SPEAKER_03: because,
- 18:05SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 18:05SPEAKER_03: we can,
- 18:06SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 18:06go through that together and we can laugh about it and we can
- 18:09talk about it and we
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: can,
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 18:11SPEAKER_03: do all those kinds of things.
- 18:12SPEAKER_03: But
- 18:13SPEAKER_03: But when we're doing it together in an environment where we're all really
- 18:17SPEAKER_03: supportive and uplifting each other,
- 18:18SPEAKER_03: that's where the magic is.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: And I love it.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: It's an invitation.
- 18:23SPEAKER_01: Nat and I talking right now,
- 18:26SPEAKER_01: I hope that what's being expressed is,
- 18:29I want to sit up here and be in the discovery of this
- 18:33conversation just as much as
- 18:35SPEAKER_01: being a part of the conversation,
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: right?
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: So we have ideas of what we want to bring in future episodes,
- 18:41but we really see this being a space where we want to invite
- 18:45women to be in the
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: an active contribution of what is being created.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: So,
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: so,
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 18:53this is not about having the lesson plan and we're all going to
- 18:55take the test at
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: the end and let's see if we pass,
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: you know,
- 18:59SPEAKER_01: this is a completely different paradigm.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: It is.
- 19:02SPEAKER_03: It's not the 10 steps to manifest whatever you want in your life.
- 19:05SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's my movies.
- 19:06SPEAKER_03: That's, that's my other business is what I do over there.
- 19:08SPEAKER_03: But here is different.
- 19:10SPEAKER_03: Here's like, here's where we share truth.
- 19:14You know,
- 19:14our own truth,
- 19:15where we realize there's really nothing wrong with us.
- 19:18SPEAKER_03: You know, we're just going through this, this incredible transition.
- 19:22And it's a conversation,
- 19:24but a conversation that we all get to contribute to.
- 19:29and a conversation that's desiring there to be an outcome that
- 19:34feels good,
- 19:35SPEAKER_01: that's more playful,
- 19:36that is emboldened in having greater joy and access to life
- 19:41force and energy.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I wanna play over there.
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: I wanna get the chills more often.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: I want to feel like I'm like inhaling because I'm excited more.
- 19:55I desire that more for me and I desire that more for the women
- 19:59in my life.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: And generating that experience with each other.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: I think we're on to something really fun.
- 20:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:07SPEAKER_03: Well,
- 20:07SPEAKER_03: my girlfriend,
- 20:08SPEAKER_03: Dr.
- 20:08SPEAKER_03: Anna Chebecker,
- 20:09SPEAKER_03: she has a lot of products and things that help women in menopause.
- 20:13SPEAKER_03: She's a gynecologist.
- 20:16SPEAKER_03: And she said, you know, menopause is mandatory, but suffering isn't.
- 20:21SPEAKER_03: But what we're talking about here is like we're not going to suffer.
- 20:26SPEAKER_03: We're not going to just get through.
- 20:27SPEAKER_03: We're not going to just survive.
- 20:29SPEAKER_03: We're going to do it with a smile on our face.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: Even if it starts out as a scowl.
- 20:41SPEAKER_03: And really,
- 20:41SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 20:44enjoying it and sharing it and embracing it in a way rather
- 20:48than seeing it as a
- 20:49SPEAKER_03: burden or as another thing.
- 20:51I remember there's a book out about menopause and the title of
- 20:55the book is What
- 20:55SPEAKER_03: Fresh Hell Is This?
- 20:57What Fresh Hell?
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: What Fresh Hell?
- 21:02SPEAKER_03: So we don't want to,
- 21:03SPEAKER_03: we don't like,
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 21:04SPEAKER_03: as these things come up,
- 21:06SPEAKER_03: we want to be able to share them.
- 21:07SPEAKER_03: We want to be able to laugh and have some levity to it,
- 21:10but also in an environment where we're having positive
- 21:14conversation about things
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: that we can do.
- 21:18SPEAKER_03: And we're sharing different,
- 21:19SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 21:20SPEAKER_03: strategies and sharing different,
- 21:22SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 21:23SPEAKER_03: products and things that we come across that can be helpful.
- 21:26SPEAKER_03: And we also want to have you as part of that conversation as well.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 21:30SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: I love it.
- 21:33So if there is anything that you have heard today that makes
- 21:38you feel seen or
- 21:40SPEAKER_03: recognized or go,
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: wait a minute,
- 21:42SPEAKER_03: that sounds just like me.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: Makes you exhale.
- 21:48SPEAKER_01: You know, then you're exactly where you're supposed to be.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Welcome to the conversation.
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:53SPEAKER_03: Welcome to the conversation.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: Welcome to the conversation.
- 21:55SPEAKER_03: So we invite you to subscribe to our channel.
- 21:59SPEAKER_03: You know, most of our content will be here in Substack.
- 22:02SPEAKER_03: We will be putting out on other platforms,
- 22:05SPEAKER_03: but I'll be honest with you,
- 22:06SPEAKER_03: the other platforms are too scary a place for me to be hanging out.
- 22:10SPEAKER_03: Too noisy.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:11But we love Substack because,
- 22:13you know,
- 22:14it seems to be a really grounded place.
- 22:17SPEAKER_03: There's not a lot of, you know, advertising and different things.
- 22:20SPEAKER_03: I've even seen a lot of people,
- 22:22SPEAKER_03: you know,
- 22:22SPEAKER_03: respectfully disagree with someone and they become friends.
- 22:25SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 22:26SPEAKER_03: With this kind of place.
- 22:27So this is where we want to hang and this is where we want to
- 22:29invite you to come
- 22:30SPEAKER_03: and hang with us.
- 22:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:31Please share this with friends that you'd like to include in
- 22:33this conversation
- 22:34because this is the beginning of what I think is going to be a
- 22:37really powerful
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: community.
- 22:39So to be here at the ground floor like this and seeding the
- 22:43ideas of what we're
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: going to stand on is exciting.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: So make sure that you come back each week.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: We want to be in this conversation with you.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: We want to connect with you.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: We want to energize with you.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: So next week, we're going to be talking about a fun subject, right, Nat?
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: We are.
- 22:59We're going to be talking about why so many women feel
- 23:01restless,
- 23:02even when life looks fine.
- 23:04SPEAKER_03: I've been through that a couple of times.
- 23:07SPEAKER_03: So, you know, I have a little bit to contribute to that conversation.
- 23:09So until next week,
- 23:16we want to encourage you to just stay curious and,
- 23:19of course,
- 23:19stay kind.
- 23:20SPEAKER_03: As you move through this messy and magical life.
