- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome in to jag Vam Pennantie Stevens here, Lady Brian
- 0:19Speaker 1: Sex and John Osier as well. We're coming to you
- 0:21Speaker 1: on a Tuesday after we traveled back from the game
- 0:23Speaker 1: in London at Wembley Stadium on Sunday. It was a
- 0:26Speaker 1: tough one to watch right out of the gate. So
- 0:28Speaker 1: we're gonna get into our big things, brought to you
- 0:30Speaker 1: by g e AJ Government Employees Health Association Benefits for federal.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Employees and retirees.
- 0:35Speaker 1: So big thing number one is question mark, what did
- 0:38Speaker 1: we see out there exactly? We thought we were gonna
- 0:40Speaker 1: get a competitive game, Liam Cohen going up against his
- 0:42Speaker 1: former employers and the RAMS, and we saw nothing of
- 0:46Speaker 1: the sort. Liam talked a little bit about the slow start, just.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Like everybody else in there. In there, you know, you
- 0:52Speaker 3: gotta look inward first, like what am I doing as
- 0:56Speaker 3: the head football coach. That's not clear right now? How
- 1:00Speaker 3: am I communicating these things? How am I and how
- 1:03Speaker 3: are we practicing these things? That's what I've got to
- 1:08Speaker 3: look at, right I mean, I've got to look at
- 1:10Speaker 3: the whole thing ultimately, But not going to stand up
- 1:14Speaker 3: here and blame these players. It starts with me.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Brian coach pointing the finger at himself. His team didn't
- 1:20Speaker 1: look prepared to start that game.
- 1:23Speaker 4: No, you know, I was at a commercial flight from
- 1:25Speaker 4: London to Jacksonville yesterday and surrounded by Jaguars fans, and
- 1:29Speaker 4: I feel compelled to say this. They all have a
- 1:32Speaker 4: lot of confidence in the coach. What they saw the
- 1:34Speaker 4: first four weeks is what they believe this team is.
- 1:37Speaker 4: Despite the fact John in the last two weeks we
- 1:40Speaker 4: have seen what twenty three penalties, fourteen sacks, no takeaways,
- 1:44Speaker 4: only three touchdowns, there is a belief level in what
- 1:48Speaker 4: he just did there in that sound by, which was
- 1:50Speaker 4: to put it back on himself and suggest that he
- 1:53Speaker 4: and his staff have to do things to get it solved.
- 1:56Speaker 4: I'm not exactly sure what the right move is when
- 1:59Speaker 4: it was misst after mistake and penalty after penalty that
- 2:02Speaker 4: cost them, but at least this coach is somebody who
- 2:06Speaker 4: understands that it starts with him.
- 2:08Speaker 5: Yeah. Look, I think we're seeing that the Seahawks game
- 2:12Speaker 5: was a game against a very good team. So first
- 2:16Speaker 5: six weeks. Fine. Look, sometimes coaches in the next day
- 2:20Speaker 5: press conference sort of meander through and you don't really
- 2:23Speaker 5: know what they're getting at Liam on Monday was very clear,
- 2:26Speaker 5: and I think when you look at this game, he
- 2:28Speaker 5: couldn't be more right. They were in third or second
- 2:32Speaker 5: and long the first three drives. They have got to
- 2:36Speaker 5: stay in managible situations and they can't be making mistakes
- 2:39Speaker 5: to put themselves behind sticks early in gangs. To me,
- 2:43Speaker 5: we're gonna talk for two weeks about what's wrong. They
- 2:48Speaker 5: have to stop making mistakes so they can find out
- 2:51Speaker 5: if they're any good or not. And I think they
- 2:53Speaker 5: are good when they don't put themselves in these situations.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Well, KAYI, this morning, they're sitting in his position in
- 2:58Speaker 4: the seventh spot in the AFC, despite these last two
- 3:02Speaker 4: losses that leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth. You know,
- 3:05Speaker 4: they're tied for the fourth best record in football, and
- 3:08Speaker 4: at four and three they're one spot ahead of Kansas City.
- 3:10Speaker 4: They'd be in at the season ended today. It doesn't,
- 3:13Speaker 4: but they're in a good spot at least to use
- 3:16Speaker 4: these two weeks wisely and get back to where they
- 3:18Speaker 4: were playing by the time they take the field in
- 3:20Speaker 4: Vegas on November two.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Yes, it's good to remember that starting the season we
- 3:24Speaker 1: knew this tough part of the schedule was going to
- 3:26Speaker 1: be that first part, and for them to be four
- 3:28Speaker 1: and three is impressive. At this point, let's go to
- 3:30Speaker 1: big thing number two. We're gonna be a little more
- 3:32Speaker 1: positive here. Exclamation point. Travis Hunter get his first career touchdown.
- 3:35Speaker 1: A little bit of a coming out party. Is they
- 3:37Speaker 1: kind of forced it to him a little bit more
- 3:38Speaker 1: on offense this week. We didn't see a ton of
- 3:40Speaker 1: him on defense though, John, But I have to imagine
- 3:43Speaker 1: after what we've seen from Travis Hunter, he has to
- 3:45Speaker 1: be more of the offensive.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Game plan going forward.
- 3:47Speaker 5: Yeah, I think he does. And I'm getting a questions
- 3:49Speaker 5: and I'm sure you guys are why they just play
- 3:51Speaker 5: him all the time both sides of Bonga. Well, I
- 3:53Speaker 5: think as a coaching staff, you're now only looking at
- 3:57Speaker 5: this week. You're trying to figure out how to row
- 4:00Speaker 5: him and how to get him there in the best
- 4:03Speaker 5: way possible. It's easy for him on defense, He's really
- 4:07Speaker 5: good no matter what situation you put him in. I
- 4:10Speaker 5: don't think you're gonna see him playing ninety five percent
- 4:12Speaker 5: of the snaps on both sides of the ball. And
- 4:15Speaker 5: the challenge remains Brian. They sort of still have to
- 4:18Speaker 5: hold him back. He would go out there and do
- 4:20Speaker 5: anything they asked him to do. You gotta protect him,
- 4:22Speaker 5: but he's gonna play more offensively. I don't know what
- 4:26Speaker 5: that means in terms of the offense running through him,
- 4:29Speaker 5: but he's got to have the ball in his hands.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Well.
- 4:30Speaker 4: He's a dynamic player, as we've seen all season long,
- 4:33Speaker 4: and he's just I don't know. He's one of those
- 4:35Speaker 4: guys that he makes things happen no matter what you're
- 4:37Speaker 4: asking him to do. I think he's your best defensive back.
- 4:42Speaker 4: He might be your best defensive player right now based
- 4:45Speaker 4: on his production. The footwork on that third downplay Kui
- 4:48Speaker 4: that I know that you referenced in quick thoughts was
- 4:51Speaker 4: spectacular at the timing when the ball got into the
- 4:54Speaker 4: hands of DeVante Adams. He was right there and then
- 4:57Speaker 4: you just see that there's defenders all around him, and
- 4:59Speaker 4: yet if the ball is put where he can make
- 5:01Speaker 4: a play, he does. I think right now he's your
- 5:04Speaker 4: best player on offense and your best player on defense.
- 5:06Speaker 4: One man's opinion. Figure out how to make that work.
- 5:10Speaker 4: You know how much he can sustain because, like you
- 5:13Speaker 4: were talking about, John, it's a long season and you
- 5:16Speaker 4: can't play ninety five percent of the snaps every game
- 5:18Speaker 4: and expect he's going to be on the field when
- 5:20Speaker 4: the season comes to a close. I just I don't
- 5:22Speaker 4: think you could do that to him. But man, there's
- 5:24Speaker 4: a balance there somewhere. Smarter people than me will find it,
- 5:27Speaker 4: and I can't wait to see it.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Our final big thing today is going to be period. Now.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Not everything is wrong, but a lot of things do
- 5:34Speaker 2: need to be fixed.
- 5:34Speaker 1: One of those penalties. They had thirteen penalties against the Rams,
- 5:38Speaker 1: which isn't going to cut it by any means. And
- 5:40Speaker 1: then also just you know the sacks allowed in that game.
- 5:43Speaker 1: He allowed seven sacks for the second straight week. Also
- 5:46Speaker 1: the offensive line and the defensive line failing to get
- 5:49Speaker 1: to the Matt stafford at all. So, Brian, there's a
- 5:51Speaker 1: lot of stuff that needs to be worked on. What's
- 5:53Speaker 1: your focus going into by week?
- 5:55Speaker 4: Well, listen, So the offensive line is given up fourteen
- 5:57Speaker 4: sacks the last two weeks, I've got to start there.
- 6:01Speaker 4: Patrick McCary had three of the thirteen penalties, two for
- 6:05Speaker 4: being illegally downfield on screenplays. I mean, that's inexcusable for
- 6:09Speaker 4: a veteran guard who comes from a really disciplined place
- 6:11Speaker 4: in Baltimore and is doing that. You're getting Whitett Mylin back. Okay,
- 6:15Speaker 4: throw the competition open. Let's throw White Milamb in there
- 6:18Speaker 4: and see if he upgrades the spot. I know he's
- 6:20Speaker 4: a rookie and he hasn't really played yet, but you're
- 6:22Speaker 4: reaching a point where you got to make something different
- 6:26Speaker 4: in that group because the last two weeks have really
- 6:29Speaker 4: been difficult.
- 6:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not so concerned about I don't think these
- 6:35Speaker 5: are bad offensive and defensive lines. If they play in
- 6:39Speaker 5: their situation, meaning you're down fourteen nothing, twenty one nothing
- 6:43Speaker 5: the other day, you're not going to get very many sacks.
- 6:46Speaker 5: When you're down that big to start, you're gonna give
- 6:49Speaker 5: up a lot of sacks because guess what, the other
- 6:50Speaker 5: team knows you need to pass. I'm gonna harp on
- 6:53Speaker 5: it until they play again, because I know you know
- 6:56Speaker 5: Leam's gonna harp on it, and it's what's wrong. You
- 6:59Speaker 5: have to start better. You can't keep being down seven
- 7:02Speaker 5: to nothing, ten nothing, and when you're in small situations
- 7:08Speaker 5: at the beginning of the game, you can't first and
- 7:11Speaker 5: ten can't be second and thirteen because of a sack
- 7:13Speaker 5: you shouldn't have given up first and ten can't be
- 7:16Speaker 5: second in UH fifteen because you're given penalties. You cannot
- 7:20Speaker 5: be against the chains early in the game the way
- 7:22Speaker 5: this team has the last two weeks.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Stay with us here on JAGSA. I'm coming up after
- 7:26Speaker 1: the break. We'll look back at some of the tape
- 7:27Speaker 1: from a Sunday's game at Wembley Stadium's.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Back into jag ZAM.
- 7:39Speaker 1: We're gonna look back at some of the tape from Sunday.
- 7:42Speaker 1: I don't wanna call it highlights because there wasn't a
- 7:44Speaker 1: ton of those in the game, but we will look
- 7:47Speaker 1: at some moments and maybe some things that we can
- 7:49Speaker 1: glean from.
- 7:50Speaker 2: What we saw go down.
- 7:51Speaker 1: So I will start out with the first play of
- 7:53Speaker 1: the game, because when I say, I don't think they
- 7:55Speaker 1: were ready to go from the first nap. This was
- 7:56Speaker 1: kind of a tough one to immediately take a sack
- 7:59Speaker 1: right there, And I think even said in his postgame
- 8:01Speaker 1: press conference, He's like, yeah, I saw Travis right there,
- 8:03Speaker 1: and I should have just thrown.
- 8:04Speaker 5: In the ball.
- 8:05Speaker 4: Second straight week, starting the game on the first play
- 8:07Speaker 4: with a three yard loss.
- 8:08Speaker 5: On the sack. Yeah, it You wonder if you're you're
- 8:14Speaker 5: right out of the gate, there was a defender maybe
- 8:18Speaker 5: drifting that way. He just doesn't want to take any
- 8:20Speaker 5: chance on the first play. Regardless, you can't put yourself
- 8:28Speaker 5: behind the sticks that early, because all of a sudden,
- 8:30Speaker 5: it seems like from that point on you were trying
- 8:34Speaker 5: to walk up hill on a snowy Hillah.
- 8:35Speaker 4: And I don't like the idea of not taking any chance.
- 8:38Speaker 4: I mean, this game, and especially this coach is all
- 8:40Speaker 4: about taking chances. You've got to get the quarterback, fire
- 8:44Speaker 4: the ball, and take some chances.
- 8:48Speaker 1: We'll move it forward a little bit because I think
- 8:49Speaker 1: the Rams got after it quite quickly, and before we
- 8:52Speaker 1: knew it was seven to twenty one. Nothing but DeVante Adams,
- 8:56Speaker 1: you know, three touchdowns on the day with just whoever
- 9:00Speaker 1: was covering him at.
- 9:01Speaker 2: Any given moment.
- 9:02Speaker 1: And this is part of my frustration, was out seeing
- 9:05Speaker 1: Travis Hunter out there, cause when you're focusing more on offense,
- 9:08Speaker 1: he didn't play on defense until the third quarter, and
- 9:11Speaker 1: by then it almost felt out of hand, right, So yes,
- 9:14Speaker 1: he's at this point your best offensive player, but he's
- 9:17Speaker 1: still your best cornerback. So yeah, it's getting to a
- 9:19Speaker 1: point where you know it would have been well. Also,
- 9:22Speaker 1: we just we'll talk about the past break up, but
- 9:24Speaker 1: it was tough with seeing what the secondary was trying
- 9:26Speaker 1: to deal with here and then just some regression from
- 9:29Speaker 1: Dewey hasn'ten playing great the last two weeks and just
- 9:31Speaker 1: some miscommunications.
- 9:32Speaker 2: It's tough to see from the defense. John from just
- 9:36Speaker 2: right out of the gator.
- 9:36Speaker 5: Yeah, look at I think the same thing on that
- 9:38Speaker 5: side of the ball, Y you uh, you can't get
- 9:41Speaker 5: down to good teams. The Jaguars aren't good enough yet
- 9:46Speaker 5: to play from behind and play well because when good
- 9:49Speaker 5: teams are up on you, they can do whatever they
- 9:52Speaker 5: want and their situations add up to better situations than yours.
- 9:55Speaker 5: So again, I think it goes back to the very beginning.
- 9:59Speaker 5: They're a good team. They can win in situations. The
- 10:01Speaker 5: Jaguars don't have multiple ways to win. They have to
- 10:05Speaker 5: be in the game and they have to have situations
- 10:07Speaker 5: favoring them. When it's not, they are going to be
- 10:13Speaker 5: exposed to what other teams can do when they want
- 10:17Speaker 5: to do it and manageable situation.
- 10:19Speaker 4: What you're what you're getting to is that there's a
- 10:20Speaker 4: formula for the Jaguars to win.
- 10:22Speaker 6: Yeah, they got to run the ball.
- 10:23Speaker 5: There's not a bunch. No one's have a bunch, right,
- 10:25Speaker 5: This team has a cup.
- 10:27Speaker 6: Of one, right, I mean in the first Yeah.
- 10:30Speaker 5: It's getting going. As you mature as a franchise and
- 10:32Speaker 5: in a regime, you get more ways. Well, right now,
- 10:35Speaker 5: this is their way.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Mcvay's been there for seven years, right, I mean he's
- 10:37Speaker 4: had two quarterbacks and countless players on both sides of
- 10:40Speaker 4: the ball. He's got many, many formulas. He showed us
- 10:42Speaker 4: one on Sunday, No Pukakua.
- 10:44Speaker 6: Now problem.
- 10:45Speaker 4: We'll go to this guy seventeen who we picked up
- 10:47Speaker 4: from the Jets this year, and it will work. The
- 10:49Speaker 4: Jaguars formula is very simple, even though you've got a
- 10:52Speaker 4: fifty four million dollars yar quarterback. You got to run
- 10:54Speaker 4: the ball. You got to stay ahead of the chains.
- 10:57Speaker 4: If you're second in thirteen. Well, the last two weeks
- 10:59Speaker 4: show us that when the Jaguars start second to thirteen
- 11:02Speaker 4: and the second play of the game they're own two.
- 11:04Speaker 4: You can't do that. You have to run the ball,
- 11:06Speaker 4: you have to stay ahead of the chains. You got
- 11:08Speaker 4: to get an early lead so that the defense can
- 11:10Speaker 4: play the style that they want to play. Courtly ship
- 11:12Speaker 4: to be even with them, right, or within seven points
- 11:15Speaker 4: of them. You can't be down fourteen to nothing because
- 11:18Speaker 4: what John was saying is so true. Then you can't
- 11:20Speaker 4: attack like they want to attack. Then you're on your heels.
- 11:23Speaker 4: So there's one formula right now. There will be more,
- 11:26Speaker 4: but right now you played a one formula.
- 11:28Speaker 5: Rams first four drives they only face third and long white,
- 11:31Speaker 5: so there's the only time they find it. Yeah, you
- 11:33Speaker 5: gotta get into it.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Another tiny little spark they almost had was Parker Washington's
- 11:39Speaker 1: kick return, and then again with the penalties.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Obviously we're harping on the same sorts of things and
- 11:43Speaker 2: you can call it kiket sacking if you want.
- 11:45Speaker 1: But also just being in that vicinity park basic very biome.
- 11:49Speaker 1: I don't know why that's Jarring's in that position at
- 11:52Speaker 1: that point, but it's so frustrating when you finally feel
- 11:56Speaker 1: like you have maybe a little tiny.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Bit of life and then you just see the yellow longerend.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Listen, that makes it a completely different dat Right you're
- 12:02Speaker 4: fourteen to seven. There you got a little momentum instead,
- 12:07Speaker 4: by the way, that would have said in a Jaguars
- 12:08Speaker 4: record for the third career punt returned by Jaguar, he
- 12:11Speaker 4: shares the record with two right now, so I was
- 12:13Speaker 4: sad to see that one go.
- 12:15Speaker 6: But on that drive the Jags missed the field goal,
- 12:16Speaker 6: and you could just you could just feel it. Matt
- 12:18Speaker 6: Stafford's like, oh, got him? What?
- 12:21Speaker 4: He a penally takes a touchdown off the board, and
- 12:23Speaker 4: then you miss a field goal. Let's put this game.
- 12:25Speaker 6: Away right now.
- 12:26Speaker 4: And of course veteran savvy quarterback that he is right
- 12:30Speaker 4: down the field, touchdown twenty one nothing, thank you.
- 12:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm gonna go way back. In the nineteen forty
- 12:37Speaker 5: NFL Championship, Washington lost seventy three nothing the Redskins. At
- 12:44Speaker 5: the time they dropped a touchdown pass. We made it
- 12:47Speaker 5: seven to seven. They asked the quarterback afterwards, Sammy bab
- 12:50Speaker 5: that had made a difference in the game. He said, yeah,
- 12:52Speaker 5: I would have been seventy three to seven. Now, maybe
- 12:55Speaker 5: that would Jaguars fans thinking that with this game. I
- 12:59Speaker 5: don't think that. Wise, it would have gotten you back
- 13:02Speaker 5: into where you weren't playing uphill the whole first half,
- 13:05Speaker 5: and it felt like such a first a uphill game
- 13:08Speaker 5: the whole game. I my dad used to talk about
- 13:13Speaker 5: when we watched Washington together and there'd be a weird call.
- 13:15Speaker 5: He guess, well, that wasn't much of a call. The
- 13:19Speaker 5: Parker one sort of felt like, well that wasn't much
- 13:21Speaker 5: of a call. I don't know.
- 13:22Speaker 4: I don't know that they win the game because if
- 13:24Speaker 4: he scores that one, but you have a different game.
- 13:26Speaker 4: You don't look, no doubt, you don't look like the
- 13:28Speaker 4: Keystone Cops, like you got pushed all over the field
- 13:31Speaker 4: right by the Rams all day if you're fourteen to seven,
- 13:34Speaker 4: because let's be honest, down fourteen nothing, the Jaguars had
- 13:38Speaker 4: very little energy.
- 13:39Speaker 1: It would have gotten it felt over felt like last
- 13:41Speaker 1: year where they get down early and you were like, oh,
- 13:42Speaker 1: what's that like the first.
- 13:43Speaker 6: Game of Tottenham last year? What is this?
- 13:46Speaker 4: So now you get to fourteen seven again, the Rams
- 13:48Speaker 4: are a better football team and they have a quarterback
- 13:50Speaker 4: playing at a higher level than your quarterback is right now.
- 13:53Speaker 4: And so as a result of that, I don't think
- 13:55Speaker 4: they win, but I think you have a different game
- 13:56Speaker 4: going into the third quarter.
- 13:57Speaker 5: A lot of situations felt out of their control after.
- 14:01Speaker 1: That mentioned it, Cam little misses a kick here, and
- 14:05Speaker 1: Liam Collina came out yesterday says their cam's their guy.
- 14:07Speaker 1: They're not doing anything in regards to that. But this
- 14:10Speaker 1: is getting problematic at this point. I think fourth miss
- 14:12Speaker 1: field goal, he's missed an extra point, and it's affecting
- 14:14Speaker 1: for me. It's affecting the way Liam calls the game going.
- 14:17Speaker 5: Forward, see go ahead, John, No, it is. I don't
- 14:23Speaker 5: necessari we've reached this point where you expect every kicker
- 14:27Speaker 5: make every field goal. Fifty yards is makeable. It's also
- 14:30Speaker 5: not a gimmey. He's missed two fifty yarders. I agree
- 14:34Speaker 5: with the idea of let's support. We're going to move forward.
- 14:38Speaker 5: This kid's been too good for so long, but he
- 14:41Speaker 5: would tell you in his mind, in this league right now,
- 14:44Speaker 5: fifty yarders can't behold your breath. You have to sort
- 14:47Speaker 5: of think he's gonna make them right now. I think
- 14:49Speaker 5: most people when they watch her think it, are sort
- 14:52Speaker 5: of holding their breath. He's got to get past that.
- 14:54Speaker 4: I'm with the coach on his approach to sticking with him.
- 14:57Speaker 4: He's my guy, he's way, he's insanely talent.
- 15:00Speaker 6: We've seen this. He's in a bad spot.
- 15:03Speaker 4: That wouldn't stop me from bringing in another kicker, though,
- 15:05Speaker 4: whether it's on the practice squad or whether I find
- 15:07Speaker 4: a spot for the guy and and work him in
- 15:10Speaker 4: because maybe what Cam needs is that edge, that competition.
- 15:14Speaker 4: He's got a little edge to him. It's kind of fun.
- 15:16Speaker 4: I think he's one of those kickers that enjoys that
- 15:18Speaker 4: side of it.
- 15:19Speaker 6: He needs it right.
- 15:20Speaker 4: Now, and I would I would be very willing to
- 15:22Speaker 4: bring a kicker in here and make him go out
- 15:24Speaker 4: another practice field.
- 15:25Speaker 5: It is funny with kickers though. Maybe in the Seattle
- 15:29Speaker 5: game last night, I forget what, but somebody missed a
- 15:32Speaker 5: fifty eight yarder or barely made it. It was the
- 15:35Speaker 5: Lions game and they're on the sidelines just, oh my god,
- 15:38Speaker 5: I can't believe missed a fifty eight yarder?
- 15:40Speaker 6: Did yard?
- 15:40Speaker 5: It's still a long we will kick it.
- 15:41Speaker 4: I mean there was a time when those again forty
- 15:43Speaker 4: eight yarder you'd be like, how did you miss a
- 15:45Speaker 4: forty eight yarder?
- 15:45Speaker 6: And now we're talking about missing.
- 15:46Speaker 5: A fiscovide it from fifty eight once and I thought
- 15:48Speaker 5: you're gonna go out of your mind.
- 15:49Speaker 6: Fifty nine, Yeah, and I did go out of my mind.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Let's take one look at this.
- 15:54Speaker 1: We've seen Travis Hunter's touched on already, but let's look
- 15:56Speaker 1: at this pass breakup he had against DeVante Adams because
- 15:59Speaker 1: for me, this was also a defining play for him
- 16:01Speaker 1: because we hadn't seen him on defense yet. Coming out
- 16:04Speaker 1: of the half, they're not looking great and then to
- 16:06Speaker 1: come in and go up against their best wide receiver
- 16:09Speaker 1: and break this up when it looked like he was
- 16:10Speaker 1: nowhere near it as well is why kind of comes
- 16:13Speaker 1: out and then you're like, oh, he still got it
- 16:15Speaker 1: on the back end.
- 16:16Speaker 4: There, I would point ask people to write here, watch
- 16:18Speaker 4: his footwork. You want to know what makes a superior corner.
- 16:22Speaker 4: It's a guy with footwork like that. He puts himself
- 16:25Speaker 4: in a position to trail and then recover and they
- 16:28Speaker 4: go up and make an incredible play.
- 16:30Speaker 6: That's a big receiver.
- 16:31Speaker 4: Now, Devonte Adams is not six feet he's six foot two.
- 16:34Speaker 6: He's a big dude.
- 16:35Speaker 4: And just because Travis has such exceptional footwork and ball
- 16:41Speaker 4: skills working together, that's to me, that's the sum of it.
- 16:46Speaker 4: The guy has got incredible skills.
- 16:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not saying this to diminish how hard he works,
- 16:51Speaker 5: because he works hard. He does this fawn out of
- 16:53Speaker 5: bed morning.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's what's remarkable about it.
- 16:56Speaker 5: Yeah, he's that good. What's funny is this was a
- 17:00Speaker 5: great play and it should not have been defensive pass inefferent,
- 17:03Speaker 5: but he made more contact here than in Cincinnati, and
- 17:06Speaker 5: that they are both great plays. But I just make
- 17:10Speaker 5: the point to show you he gets his body in
- 17:14Speaker 5: situations that I still think the Cincinnati was because the
- 17:18Speaker 5: ref couldn't believe he made the play and then it
- 17:21Speaker 5: was so slew. And he's that good when he does that.
- 17:24Speaker 5: And yeah, he's starting to show how special he's going
- 17:28Speaker 5: to be.
- 17:29Speaker 4: This is how many games we are in. I'm holding
- 17:31Speaker 4: it up just for the seven games and do its
- 17:33Speaker 4: great show that in two hands, we can show how
- 17:36Speaker 4: many games he's played if you're just patient with him
- 17:39Speaker 4: and with the Jaguars as they figure out that he's
- 17:42Speaker 4: going to have a long and productive and maybe illustrious
- 17:46Speaker 4: career in Jacksonville over the course of games that toes
- 17:49Speaker 4: and fingers, all of us won't be able to count.
- 17:52Speaker 2: All.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Right, after the break, we're gonna come back and give
- 17:54Speaker 1: you our hot takes for the rest of the season.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Jag Exam brought to you today. Our hot takes are
- 18:10Speaker 1: brought to you by Firehouse Subs. Welcome back in We
- 18:17Speaker 1: saw a not so great product the past two weeks.
- 18:20Speaker 1: But it is important to remember this team is four
- 18:22Speaker 1: and three and if you told me that a couple
- 18:23Speaker 1: of months ago, I would have been thrilled. I think
- 18:25Speaker 1: I was happy. I was hopeful if we were going
- 18:27Speaker 1: to get three and four out of that first little
- 18:28Speaker 1: stretch of games by the bye week. So looking back
- 18:31Speaker 1: on this game on Sunday and kind of looking forward,
- 18:34Speaker 1: what is your hot take for Uce Brian?
- 18:35Speaker 7: Help is not on the way, And by that I
- 18:37Speaker 7: mean that you've got to figure this out with the
- 18:40Speaker 7: guys that you've got in that locker room. Yes, I
- 18:42Speaker 7: know they went and they traded for Greg Newsome, and
- 18:45Speaker 7: they may swing another trade before the trade.
- 18:46Speaker 6: Deadline comes up in two weeks.
- 18:48Speaker 4: But it's the guys who are in the locker room
- 18:51Speaker 4: right now that you have to figure things out. I
- 18:53Speaker 4: mentioned earlier that here's one play. They're very high on
- 18:56Speaker 4: Wyatt Milam, the third round pick, the former tackle, who
- 18:59Speaker 4: they think is a guard at the NFL level, and
- 19:02Speaker 4: he's ready to play. Perhaps over the course of the
- 19:04Speaker 4: bye weekend, maybe you can plug him in there at
- 19:06Speaker 4: right guard. They really think he is a tremendous player
- 19:10Speaker 4: and could be one of their best offensive linemen by
- 19:12Speaker 4: the end of the year. Okay, well there's a little help.
- 19:14Speaker 4: Who's here on the roster. I'll give you an example
- 19:17Speaker 4: where help's not coming.
- 19:18Speaker 6: You're not getting Kleb Bransaw back. Right. You have problems
- 19:21Speaker 6: at safety right now.
- 19:22Speaker 4: Eric Murray is dinged up, Dewey is not playing very well,
- 19:25Speaker 4: and you can't go to the third round pick that
- 19:28Speaker 4: you really wanted to bring in. So you've got to
- 19:31Speaker 4: take what you've got and figure it out. And that's
- 19:33Speaker 4: what the coach said post game on Sunday night at
- 19:36Speaker 4: Wembley Stadium. It's what he said yesterday in his news conference.
- 19:40Speaker 4: You got to take what you got because you're not
- 19:42Speaker 4: bringing in wholesale replacements to change things.
- 19:44Speaker 5: Yeah, you're talking. You're going down the laundry list of
- 19:48Speaker 5: what happens in the first year of a regime. When
- 19:50Speaker 5: you come in. They have a lot of their guys
- 19:54Speaker 5: in good situations. They don't have a mature a Gladstone
- 19:59Speaker 5: has developed all these spots and they've developed all these players,
- 20:02Speaker 5: so they need to stay healthy. And I think it's
- 20:04Speaker 5: what you're talking about. Figure out how to win some
- 20:09Speaker 5: situations with the guys. He got until you start getting
- 20:14Speaker 5: a roster of.
- 20:14Speaker 6: Debt and the best. The third example of that is
- 20:17Speaker 6: Brenton Strange.
- 20:18Speaker 4: You've got Hunter Long and Johnny Munt, and neither one
- 20:21Speaker 4: of those guys, both of them combined don't give you
- 20:23Speaker 4: what Brenton Strange does, let alone each one in parts
- 20:25Speaker 4: and pieces. You're not going to go find a player
- 20:28Speaker 4: who can do what Brenton Strange does for you. So
- 20:30Speaker 4: you've got to figure out something else until you get
- 20:32Speaker 4: it back.
- 20:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I went I'm a man of pros, you know,
- 20:36Speaker 5: I'm probably work with a poet at heart. So I
- 20:39Speaker 5: went with fourteen and none won't get it done.
- 20:44Speaker 6: That's it, little alliteration.
- 20:46Speaker 5: And you know, fourteen sacks and then no sacks on defense.
- 20:53Speaker 5: That can't happen. And again I go back to the
- 20:57Speaker 5: reason it's happening is not because this team is capable
- 21:00Speaker 5: of having better numbers on both sides. But you cannot
- 21:04Speaker 5: play games where it is so hard to get sacks
- 21:08Speaker 5: because you're so far down, whether it's so easy to
- 21:10Speaker 5: give up sacks when you're in such bad situations. They
- 21:13Speaker 5: have to play smart, and they have to get themselves
- 21:18Speaker 5: in a situation again where they find out if they
- 21:21Speaker 5: can be a more functioning team than they already are,
- 21:24Speaker 5: you're probably not gonna blow a lot of teams out,
- 21:26Speaker 5: and you're probably not gonna have a lot of twenty
- 21:28Speaker 5: one point comebacks. You have to stay above your feet
- 21:31Speaker 5: in these games and figure out a way to be
- 21:34Speaker 5: in the situations where you can succeed.
- 21:36Speaker 4: Well, they did it against Kansas City because they were
- 21:38Speaker 4: pretty good on third.
- 21:39Speaker 5: Down that night and no penalties and before right.
- 21:41Speaker 4: Yeah, four penalties, and so they were in a position
- 21:43Speaker 4: where they could play and come back down fourteen nothing
- 21:47Speaker 4: to take the lead and then eventually win the ball game.
- 21:49Speaker 4: But what you're saying is what we talked about earlier.
- 21:51Speaker 4: There's a formula and then the formulas you gotta have sacks.
- 21:54Speaker 4: You've got to have sacks, and you have got to
- 21:56Speaker 4: protect your quarterback, and the formula does not being played
- 21:59Speaker 4: right now.
- 22:00Speaker 2: I'm good, but I did like the rhyme. John appreciated it.
- 22:02Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Mine is about Travis Hunter, because I think it is
- 22:06Speaker 1: time to see what we've got in the sense of
- 22:09Speaker 1: I know they're working through playing time. It seems to
- 22:11Speaker 1: be changing week by week. But after seeing that play
- 22:13Speaker 1: against DeVante Adams, for me. I think he needs to
- 22:16Speaker 1: be on defense as much as physically possible, and I
- 22:18Speaker 1: still think he should be a focus on offense. I
- 22:20Speaker 1: also haven't seen a point yet where he's been winded
- 22:22Speaker 1: and wanting to come out of a game. So I
- 22:24Speaker 1: think it's time to start pushing those numbers up on
- 22:26Speaker 1: both sides in the game and seeing once you reach
- 22:29Speaker 1: that limit. You haven't seen it yet, And I think
- 22:31Speaker 1: at this point he's your best player at times on defense,
- 22:35Speaker 1: and he is definitely your best player on offense right now,
- 22:38Speaker 1: and I think we need to.
- 22:39Speaker 2: See him in that role. That's the role they want
- 22:41Speaker 2: him to be in.
- 22:41Speaker 1: They told talked about him changing the game, and it
- 22:44Speaker 1: now needs to be the time to do that, think,
- 22:46Speaker 1: especially at the bye week. He's gotten through a chunk
- 22:48Speaker 1: of the season already. You don't necessarily have to worry
- 22:50Speaker 1: about the burnout as much.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Now's the time.
- 22:52Speaker 5: Yeah, I think what's gonna be interesting here Brian is
- 22:54Speaker 5: finding out if he's look he was dynamic on offense
- 22:58Speaker 5: the other day. Is he a player? And I don't
- 23:02Speaker 5: know the answer to this. Can he be your one? Meaning? Uh,
- 23:08Speaker 5: does he know enough about all the receiver positions where
- 23:12Speaker 5: you can say he is your one, he's going to
- 23:14Speaker 5: draw a double coverage that's gonna open up things right
- 23:19Speaker 5: for other players? Or is he more situationally at wide receiver?
- 23:24Speaker 5: He's really really good. I mean, and what you've see
- 23:26Speaker 5: in a receiver is that there's a point in the
- 23:29Speaker 5: future Uh. I don't know how quick they get there
- 23:32Speaker 5: where he is going to have to be accounted for
- 23:35Speaker 5: defensively and you're gonna be able to design your game
- 23:37Speaker 5: plan on they have to cover Travis over here. Now
- 23:40Speaker 5: here's what we can do based off that.
- 23:41Speaker 4: I think the head coach has told us repeatedly since
- 23:44Speaker 4: training camp that it was gonna be a process for
- 23:46Speaker 4: him to figure out.
- 23:47Speaker 6: All three positions.
- 23:48Speaker 4: I don't think there's any way It's not fair to
- 23:50Speaker 4: expect that he could come in here and know more
- 23:53Speaker 4: than the one position. To know three right now would
- 23:56Speaker 4: be ridiculous. He will get there, though, So yeah, and eventually,
- 23:59Speaker 4: as you just said, he he's going to be that guy. Uh,
- 24:02Speaker 4: but right now so naturally on defense, I mean, I
- 24:04Speaker 4: just I don't know how you take a player with
- 24:06Speaker 4: those skills at a position of such great need and
- 24:08Speaker 4: not play just put.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Him out there on their best guy. Let him play football.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Uh say with us after break will tell you what's
- 24:13Speaker 2: coming up the rest of the week. Here for the
- 24:14Speaker 2: bye week Jags fans.
- 24:23Speaker 1: If you want customized Jaguars furniture for your home, check
- 24:25Speaker 1: out zipchaar dot com rouse all the customizable options. Zip
- 24:27Speaker 1: Chair is furniture for fans.
- 24:33Speaker 8: I feel like we're going, we were really going together
- 24:36Speaker 8: and we're getting better. But today we I feel like
- 24:39Speaker 8: we had a step back. And then as a leader,
- 24:41Speaker 8: I feel like that that's that's definitely one of me
- 24:44Speaker 8: being a uh a big key part in that. But
- 24:46Speaker 8: I'll let you guys know that I let him down
- 24:48Speaker 8: and they appreciated me. But like I said, man, I
- 24:52Speaker 8: I really do love 'em and we we gonna get better.
- 24:55Speaker 8: And and I know, I know I've I've been through
- 24:57Speaker 8: my fair share of adversity, so I think we can
- 25:00Speaker 8: we can get through this event today.
- 25:02Speaker 2: For the defense as well, we can talk a lot
- 25:04Speaker 2: about the offense.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Defense had a tough one and Jordan louis probably uncharacteristically bad.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Game for him.
- 25:09Speaker 1: This defense has looked a lot different when they have
- 25:11Speaker 1: him to get in the takeaways, and I think that's
- 25:12Speaker 1: something that is going to have to be addressed in
- 25:14Speaker 1: the bye.
- 25:14Speaker 6: Week and we talked about it has the same with
- 25:16Speaker 6: that Travon Walker.
- 25:17Speaker 5: Yeah, and again I'm just a big fan of Trayvon.
- 25:22Speaker 5: Obviously he got hurt against San Francisco. The defense has
- 25:27Speaker 5: not looked the.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Same and when he went out of that game is
- 25:29Speaker 1: when they.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Started to get back into it.
- 25:30Speaker 5: Yeah. So this team, you can say all you went
- 25:36Speaker 5: about not talking about injuries, and you have to have debt.
- 25:39Speaker 5: There are certain guys this team needs on the field.
- 25:41Speaker 6: I ain't Travon, Bretton Stranger two guys absolutely.
- 25:45Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:45Speaker 6: I just wanted to throw this in one more time.
- 25:47Speaker 4: Being on that flight, on the commercial flight home out
- 25:49Speaker 4: in London, there were so many Jaguars fans who had
- 25:52Speaker 4: such a good time. I mean, they hated that the
- 25:54Speaker 4: team lost, but they enjoyed the game at Wembley STAIU
- 25:56Speaker 4: and they enjoyed London. They enjoyed the whole spectacle of it.
- 25:59Speaker 4: So it was fun to listen to them talk. And
- 26:03Speaker 4: I didn't hear a lot of same old jaggs. I
- 26:05Speaker 4: heard a lot of how's Liam going to fix it?
- 26:08Speaker 4: So I just that was a fun vibe to be around.
- 26:11Speaker 6: Yesterday.
- 26:11Speaker 4: There were a lot of energetic people who believe that
- 26:13Speaker 4: this team is different. It's hard to say it when
- 26:15Speaker 4: they get beat like that in London right a year
- 26:17Speaker 4: after they got beat like that by the Bears, It's
- 26:20Speaker 4: hard to bear that out. But people kind of understand it.
- 26:22Speaker 4: They kind of see that things are starting to change,
- 26:24Speaker 4: albeit slower.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Than they'd like, and trust in some understanding that the
- 26:28Speaker 1: problems will be addressed.
- 26:29Speaker 4: Some belief in Tony Biselli, James Gladstone and Liam Cohen.
- 26:33Speaker 4: We've heard it, we've kind of felt it. Yesterday was
- 26:36Speaker 4: like a nine hour focus group on the back of
- 26:39Speaker 4: a Virgin Airlines on the way from heath Row to Atlanta,
- 26:42Speaker 4: so the feedback was pretty optimistic.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Here's hoping we're going to be with you once more
- 26:49Speaker 2: this week.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Tomorrow we'll talk a little bit about kind of look
- 26:51Speaker 1: back at the first seven weeks or so and what
- 26:53Speaker 1: we've got coming up after the bye week as we
- 26:55Speaker 1: look ahead as well, So we'll see you back here
- 26:56Speaker 1: in DIAXAM tomorrows.
- 27:04Speaker 5: Contens
