- 1:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I'd be like, hey, yeah.
- 1:10SPEAKER_11: So uh, how does it feel to be the stupidest person on the planet?
- 1:14SPEAKER_11: Who are you talking to?
- 1:16SPEAKER_11: That guy.
- 1:18SPEAKER_08: Hey Teresa, how's it going?
- 1:20SPEAKER_08: Episode 198.
- 1:22SPEAKER_11: Teresa, you're so funny.
- 1:24SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:25SPEAKER_08: Two away from 200.
- 1:27SPEAKER_08: 200.
- 1:29SPEAKER_08: Um 200 podcast.
- 1:32SPEAKER_08: My so so so speaking of um my wife, actually, my wife had a fantastic suggestion.
- 1:38SPEAKER_08: I don't know that we could do it, but maybe we could.
- 1:42SPEAKER_11: Um and I don't know if well your wife is one of the smartest people I know.
- 1:45SPEAKER_11: Sure.
- 1:46SPEAKER_11: So this ought to be really good.
- 1:47SPEAKER_08: I should have l I should listen to her for everything.
- 1:49SPEAKER_08: I don't.
- 1:50SPEAKER_11: Well, that's because you're a guy.
- 1:51SPEAKER_08: Yeah, this is true.
- 1:52SPEAKER_11: It's not it's not in your DNA to listen.
- 1:54SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:55SPEAKER_08: But I almost I I almost think uh her idea is I mean, her idea is is great.
- 2:01SPEAKER_08: You and I would have fun with this, but I think it might be See, I told her this too.
- 2:08SPEAKER_08: I think it might be an old like everybody's doing it.
- 2:12SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 2:12SPEAKER_08: Um so it might be, you know, nothing special.
- 2:16SPEAKER_08: And she's like, just you and Doug doing it would be special.
- 2:21SPEAKER_08: People would watch.
- 2:24SPEAKER_11: Wait, you said watch.
- 2:25SPEAKER_08: I did say watch.
- 2:26SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 2:27SPEAKER_08: So, you know those because we kind of do it now on the podcast sometimes when we hear a new song, like say Richie Sambora, we were listening to Richie Sambora's song.
- 2:37SPEAKER_08: You know, I don't know if I like it, you know, and that's that type of thing.
- 2:40SPEAKER_08: We kind of She wants Does she want us to do reactions?
- 2:44SPEAKER_08: Yes, she does.
- 2:46SPEAKER_08: And it doesn't have to be but she she said you guys could could react to new songs released by your favorite artists, or you know, just new songs, or anything really.
- 2:56SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I was about to say, it'd be hard to surprise us.
- 2:59SPEAKER_11: It would be, you know.
- 3:01SPEAKER_11: So I I could see that.
- 3:03SPEAKER_11: So like filming the response, you know, us listening to like the new like the new Richie Sambora.
- 3:09SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 3:09SPEAKER_11: You know, stuff like that.
- 3:10SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 3:11SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 3:11SPEAKER_08: So it but I and that's what I told her.
- 3:14SPEAKER_08: I said, everybody and their brother are doing that.
- 3:17SPEAKER_11: Yeah, there's like a million of those.
- 3:18SPEAKER_08: There's a million of those on YouTube.
- 3:20SPEAKER_08: Uh I don't know how that we could make it different.
- 3:23SPEAKER_08: It would be funny because it's us, I think.
- 3:26SPEAKER_08: Well, yeah.
- 3:26SPEAKER_08: Um and us on video.
- 3:29SPEAKER_08: It's like people could actually see us.
- 3:31SPEAKER_08: They'd be like, ugh.
- 3:32SPEAKER_08: They're speaking of that, and and you actually I showed you a couple of these um when you walked in.
- 3:37SPEAKER_08: Uh we have we do have a YouTube page.
- 3:39SPEAKER_08: Uh I don't know why.
- 3:41SPEAKER_08: It's been it's been dormant for a while.
- 3:44SPEAKER_08: Um, because uh we haven't we kind of been how many how many people have actually subscribed to it?
- 3:51SPEAKER_08: Not many.
- 3:51SPEAKER_08: I didn't think.
- 3:52SPEAKER_11: Um because you got like you if you get so many, you get like like free something, right?
- 3:58SPEAKER_08: Um you get uh well you can monetize it for one.
- 4:01SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 4:02SPEAKER_11: Um if you get so many.
- 4:03SPEAKER_08: Let's see.
- 4:05SPEAKER_08: 53 subscribers.
- 4:06SPEAKER_08: Wow.
- 4:07SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 4:07SPEAKER_08: Uh we have That's more than the podcast.
- 4:10SPEAKER_08: 86 videos.
- 4:11SPEAKER_08: Uh but what we used to how many?
- 4:13SPEAKER_08: 86 videos.
- 4:14SPEAKER_08: How'd we get 86 videos?
- 4:15SPEAKER_08: We used to put post the promos.
- 4:17SPEAKER_08: Oh, that's right.
- 4:18SPEAKER_08: Yeah, so what we used to do uh back in the early days of the podcast, you know, like two years, two years ago.
- 4:23SPEAKER_08: Two years ago.
- 4:23SPEAKER_08: Three years ago, whatever.
- 4:25SPEAKER_08: Um, we used to um do the podcast and and video some of it.
- 4:32SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 4:32SPEAKER_08: And we would make promos, like teasers, like 30 second to one minute teasers.
- 4:36SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 4:37SPEAKER_08: Where we would mention the sponsors and everything, and and you know, this is what's coming up on this week's podcast.
- 4:43SPEAKER_08: And you know, to an extent we're kind of phoning it in now where we just kind of show up, we do our podcast and and put it on Facebook.
- 4:51SPEAKER_08: Hey, here's the new podcast, you know.
- 4:53SPEAKER_08: That's true, yeah, yeah.
- 4:54SPEAKER_08: Where we haven't really been putting a lot of effort into it.
- 4:56SPEAKER_08: And one of the reasons is because I don't ha I I I don't have the internet bandwidth, you know, where I live, to edit that stuff and upload that stuff.
- 5:07SPEAKER_11: You have the internet equivalent to a hamster in a wheel.
- 5:10SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 5:10SPEAKER_11: You really do, it's it's almost dial-up.
- 5:12SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 5:13SPEAKER_08: Um but I'm happy to say, I'm happy to say that's changing.
- 5:21SPEAKER_10: Oh.
- 5:22SPEAKER_08: We have signed up for broadband internet.
- 5:25SPEAKER_10: Ah.
- 5:26SPEAKER_08: And hopefully, I think either by the end of this month or by the beginning of July, we'll have super fast broadband internet.
- 5:32SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 5:33SPEAKER_08: Um so will that bring back videos?
- 5:37SPEAKER_08: Maybe.
- 5:39SPEAKER_08: We should get a video camera.
- 5:40SPEAKER_08: We have two.
- 5:41SPEAKER_08: There's one right over there.
- 5:43SPEAKER_08: I have two video cameras.
- 5:44SPEAKER_08: Well, that's what that is.
- 5:47SPEAKER_08: I have two video cameras that we used to film the pot the Well, yeah, I remember those.
- 5:50SPEAKER_11: I thought they just disappeared.
- 5:52SPEAKER_11: No, they're still here.
- 5:52SPEAKER_11: We just haven't used them.
- 5:53SPEAKER_11: How?
- 5:54SPEAKER_11: Why but I how many hours have I sat over here, looked over there, and gone, oh, there's a camera.
- 6:00SPEAKER_11: No, I haven't ever done that.
- 6:01SPEAKER_11: What the frick is wrong with me?
- 6:03SPEAKER_11: And there's another one back there.
- 6:04SPEAKER_11: Is there?
- 6:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 6:05SPEAKER_11: Where?
- 6:05SPEAKER_08: Uh back here?
- 6:06SPEAKER_08: Over by the wall.
- 6:07SPEAKER_08: See it over there by the wall?
- 6:10unknown: Wow.
- 6:10SPEAKER_08: Son of a wow.
- 6:13SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 6:13SPEAKER_08: We have we're more technically advanced than I thought.
- 6:16SPEAKER_08: We have the technology.
- 6:17SPEAKER_08: We just have to put in the timing.
- 6:19SPEAKER_08: We just have to utilize it.
- 6:20SPEAKER_08: And and and the the high high speed internet.
- 6:23SPEAKER_11: We should hire your daughter to be like our media consultant.
- 6:28SPEAKER_11: We'll put we'll pay her in um pesos.
- 6:33SPEAKER_08: We'll pay her in tacos.
- 6:35SPEAKER_11: Hey.
- 6:35SPEAKER_11: Hey.
- 6:36SPEAKER_11: I'm going to Taco Bell.
- 6:37SPEAKER_11: What do you want?
- 6:38SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 6:38SPEAKER_08: I'll send it to you.
- 6:39SPEAKER_11: I'll mail it to you.
- 6:41SPEAKER_08: But yeah, hopefully the um the videos will make a comeback.
- 6:45SPEAKER_08: We'll uh we'll try and get some teaser videos on there.
- 6:48SPEAKER_11: Um in the Well, I do, but I do like the reaction thing.
- 6:53SPEAKER_11: I mean that it's it's actually a pretty good idea.
- 6:55SPEAKER_11: I mean, it's a it gives us another I mean we should film it.
- 6:58SPEAKER_11: I mean, it gives us a reason to why do I have a crayon?
- 7:02SPEAKER_08: Was it in in the cracks of the couch, I'm sure.
- 7:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 7:05SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 7:05SPEAKER_11: It's broken, but it's it's a crayon.
- 7:07SPEAKER_11: Yeah, well, I have kids, Doug.
- 7:08SPEAKER_11: I know.
- 7:09SPEAKER_11: I but they don't come down here, so it's probably mine.
- 7:12SPEAKER_11: I got your crayon.
- 7:13SPEAKER_08: Um let's see.
- 7:16SPEAKER_08: How's that Michael McDonald book?
- 7:18SPEAKER_11: It's really good.
- 7:19SPEAKER_11: Um I'm up to where he joined the Doobie Brothers.
- 7:22SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 7:22SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 7:22SPEAKER_11: It's really fast.
- 7:24SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 7:24SPEAKER_11: Talk about a life of addiction.
- 7:27SPEAKER_11: I mean for him?
- 7:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 7:29SPEAKER_11: Really?
- 7:29SPEAKER_11: Alcohol, marijuana, cocaine.
- 7:32SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 7:33SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 7:34SPEAKER_11: Yeah, he's got a I mean, and he admits this in the book that he's got a very addictive person.
- 7:38SPEAKER_11: He's he's a he's a predilection to addiction.
- 7:41SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 7:42SPEAKER_11: Because his dad did.
- 7:43SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 7:44SPEAKER_11: And uh so yeah, so he he dealt with a lot of substances.
- 7:48SPEAKER_08: Was he ever a s like besides marijuana, was he ever a smoker, like cigarette smoker?
- 7:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 7:52SPEAKER_08: He was.
- 7:53SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 7:54SPEAKER_08: Interesting, because he's got that voice and and maybe that added to it.
- 7:57SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 7:57SPEAKER_11: I don't know.
- 7:58SPEAKER_11: He talked about the voice.
- 7:59SPEAKER_11: He had to figure out a way to um get that, you know, because he says he sings in a higher range.
- 8:08SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 8:08SPEAKER_11: And he tried he had he had to find a way to get that range without blasting his voice.
- 8:15SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 8:15SPEAKER_11: You know, like destroying his voice every time he did it.
- 8:17SPEAKER_11: And that's you know, that was part of that was like the early days when he was in all these other all these, you know, bands around St.
- 8:24SPEAKER_11: Louis, right, trying to find out how to do that, and then he finally figured it out.
- 8:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 8:28SPEAKER_11: So but yeah, it's it's a really interesting read.
- 8:31SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I uh I was I was I almost bought it because I couldn't wait for you to finish it.
- 8:35SPEAKER_08: Well you gotta you gotta see shit anyway.
- 8:37SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you think I should yeah, I was I almost did.
- 8:40SPEAKER_11: Just just give more money to Mike.
- 8:41SPEAKER_08: I guess that was kind of our Michael McDonald moment.
- 8:43SPEAKER_08: I I didn't mean to jump the jump the gun, but because I don't have another one.
- 8:46SPEAKER_11: We're not we're not set in stone about when the Michael McDonald I mean that's the thing about you don't know where Michael McDonald's gonna show up.
- 8:53SPEAKER_11: So you don't know when a Michael McDonald moment is gonna show up.
- 8:55SPEAKER_11: You're just like, bam, there it is.
- 8:57SPEAKER_11: You know what I mean?
- 8:58SPEAKER_08: I did see, I did see because you know Paul Riser has a lot to do with this book.
- 9:02SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 9:02SPEAKER_11: Uh and you can tell when you read the book.
- 9:04SPEAKER_08: Really?
- 9:04SPEAKER_11: Because there's a lot of that like Paul Riser humor.
- 9:07SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 9:07SPEAKER_11: In you know, interwoven.
- 9:08SPEAKER_08: You're like, he was one of, you know, while we're talking about this, I'm I'm just gonna put this on because um, well because we're talking about it.
- 9:17SPEAKER_08: So um there was an in somebody was doing an interview with the both of them and and asking how Michael McDonald met Paul Riser, and it was at a party, and Paul Riser said something to the effect of uh uh he didn't want to go to the party, and when he walked in, he saw Mike McDonald was there, and it's like oh crap, you know, and he loves Michael McDonald.
- 9:41SPEAKER_08: And uh he says, I I never I'm never a forward person, but I went up to Michael and I said, Hey Mike, um you know I live like 80 feet from here, um, and I have two pianos uh in my house.
- 9:56SPEAKER_08: Would you want to come over and just play around a little bit?
- 10:00SPEAKER_08: And he said, sure.
- 10:04SPEAKER_08: And so we did, and I had to pinch myself a couple times saying I'm playing piano with Michael McDonald.
- 10:09SPEAKER_08: I didn't even know Paul Riser played piano.
- 10:11SPEAKER_08: The the Mad About You theme is Paul Riser.
- 10:12SPEAKER_08: Is it really?
- 10:13SPEAKER_08: Yeah, and he wrote it too.
- 10:14SPEAKER_08: I didn't know that.
- 10:15SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 10:15SPEAKER_08: Wow.
- 10:15SPEAKER_08: Yeah, so Paul Riser has a musical background for sure.
- 10:18SPEAKER_08: Oh, I did not know that.
- 10:19SPEAKER_08: Um so, but I I saw that little clip and I was like, I see.
- 10:23SPEAKER_08: That's what made me want I I gotta look at this book.
- 10:26SPEAKER_08: You know?
- 10:26SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 10:27SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 10:28SPEAKER_08: So uh where was I going with this?
- 10:31SPEAKER_11: I have no idea.
- 10:32SPEAKER_08: I don't either.
- 10:33SPEAKER_11: We just started talking.
- 10:34SPEAKER_11: You were asking me about the Pauline.
- 10:36SPEAKER_11: Paul Riser.
- 10:37SPEAKER_08: Michael McDonald.
- 10:38SPEAKER_08: No, no, no.
- 10:38SPEAKER_08: Let's rewind the tape.
- 10:41SPEAKER_08: No, there was something.
- 10:42SPEAKER_08: Oh, he said that when they started talking, this is this is kind of a direction I wanted to go.
- 10:47SPEAKER_08: They when they started talking, that they share a love of 60s music.
- 10:52SPEAKER_08: Oh, okay.
- 10:53SPEAKER_08: And I've been thinking, you know, we we had a good discussion before we got on the podcast, before we started recording, about 60s music.
- 11:01SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 11:01SPEAKER_08: And how um we love 60s music.
- 11:09SPEAKER_11: And well, it's it it takes you back, not to uh a lot of people were like, oh, it's a simpler time.
- 11:15SPEAKER_11: Not really.
- 11:16SPEAKER_08: That's not in a lot of ways it wasn't.
- 11:18SPEAKER_11: It really was a lot more complicated than people want to talk about.
- 11:23SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 11:24SPEAKER_11: But the music is very because it was it was in a it was in an experimental stage, you know, because we had just come out of the 50s and you're straight like rock and roll, you know, your three-chord change, you know, that kind of thing.
- 11:37SPEAKER_11: Yeah, your Elvis, your Chuck Berry, your blah blah blah.
- 11:40SPEAKER_11: He had a story about Chuck Berry in his book too.
- 11:42SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I should read that.
- 11:43SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 11:44SPEAKER_11: Uh, but anyway, uh, do you know Chuck Berry used used to literally get paid right before he got on stage?
- 11:50SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 11:51SPEAKER_11: Or we Franklin did too.
- 11:52SPEAKER_11: Yo, no, but he would literally get up on the stage, look around, gauge how many people are at the show, and then like get paid like right there before he would even start singing.
- 12:03SPEAKER_08: Oh, I didn't know that.
- 12:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it was pretty Mike he talks about it in the book.
- 12:07SPEAKER_11: I was like, wow, that's just baller.
- 12:10SPEAKER_11: You know what I mean?
- 12:11SPEAKER_11: You're like, ah, there's 60 people here.
- 12:13SPEAKER_11: I want 60 that, you know, whatever.
- 12:15SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 12:16SPEAKER_08: So that's the way to do it.
- 12:18SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 12:18SPEAKER_08: Don't get hosed.
- 12:19SPEAKER_11: Uh but anyway, 60s music.
- 12:20SPEAKER_11: I mean, it was it's a very experimental, because it was still fun, but people were experimenting more because the technology was getting better and musicians and more people were writing their own stuff.
- 12:30SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 12:30SPEAKER_11: You know, like because you know, the Beatles started that.
- 12:33SPEAKER_11: You know, people like saw the Beatles were like, oh look, they write their own songs and blah, blah, blah, and they play their own instruments.
- 12:38SPEAKER_11: We can do that.
- 12:39SPEAKER_08: So well, I was always, you know, when someone talks to me about actually when I talk to my students sometimes, not the youngest.
- 12:48SPEAKER_08: I do sometimes.
- 12:49SPEAKER_08: Sometimes you're um when we talk I'm your teacher, shut up.
- 12:53SPEAKER_08: When we're talking about the Beatles, I I usually say something to the effect of the Beatles are were um the most important band in the history of rock and roll.
- 13:05SPEAKER_08: And they'll they'll always go, No, they weren't.
- 13:08SPEAKER_08: Yes, they were, and here's why.
- 13:10SPEAKER_08: Because just what you said, the 50s, you had Little Richard, you had uh Elvis Presley, you had the 145, you know, rock and roll, just very straightforward.
- 13:21SPEAKER_08: Yeah, um, right?
- 13:22SPEAKER_11: It wasn't that experimental.
- 13:23SPEAKER_08: When the Beatles started that way, they loved old rock and roll, they loved Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly and all those guys.
- 13:30SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 13:30SPEAKER_08: When the Beatles came along and they they started just kind of breaking the rules.
- 13:39SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 13:40SPEAKER_08: And when when people heard and saw what the Beatles were doing, they were like, Oh, we can break the rules.
- 13:48SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 13:48SPEAKER_08: So let's break the rules in our own way and express ourselves in our own way.
- 13:54SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 13:54SPEAKER_08: And so it just kind of busted open.
- 13:57SPEAKER_11: Yeah, the six the sixties were famous for that.
- 13:59SPEAKER_11: Absolutely.
- 14:00SPEAKER_11: Because once the Beatles were on Ed Sullivan in '63, yeah.
- 14:03SPEAKER_11: I mean, it was over.
- 14:04SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 14:04SPEAKER_11: That that was the start of the revolution.
- 14:06SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 14:06SPEAKER_11: You know what I mean?
- 14:07SPEAKER_11: The revolution was televised.
- 14:08SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 14:09SPEAKER_11: You know what I mean?
- 14:09SPEAKER_11: And and I find myself You see how many people are like, I saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, and I was like, I want to be a rock and roll musician.
- 14:18SPEAKER_11: Billy Joel.
- 14:19SPEAKER_11: Billy Joel.
- 14:19SPEAKER_11: We were just talking about it.
- 14:20SPEAKER_11: I mean, how many people but I mean how many people?
- 14:22SPEAKER_11: Like Phil Collins, Gene Simmons.
- 14:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah, all these people got, you know, were like, oh, I want to be a rock and roll person because I saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan.
- 14:30SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 14:31SPEAKER_08: They were literally the most important band in the history of rock and roll.
- 14:34SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 14:35SPEAKER_08: Um so what I was gonna say is lately I have been because it's hard to explain.
- 14:44SPEAKER_08: It's hard to get around.
- 14:46SPEAKER_08: I'm trying I try to I tell me how that feels.
- 14:50SPEAKER_08: If only there were a video camera here.
- 14:53SPEAKER_08: Um I I try to uh have my cake you need it too tow in every in a lot of different genres.
- 15:04SPEAKER_08: I want cake.
- 15:05SPEAKER_08: And cake.
- 15:08SPEAKER_08: I never know which it's almost like an identity crisis.
- 15:13SPEAKER_08: Because you know, you have my acoustic stuff or more just my songs that I write, which tends to sound country or folk or whatever.
- 15:23SPEAKER_08: You have the stuff that I love to play, like on the guitar, which is bluesy, you know, because that's just the way I play lead guitar.
- 15:32SPEAKER_08: Um I love hard rock, you know that.
- 15:35SPEAKER_08: I mean, we talk about that all the time.
- 15:36SPEAKER_08: What?
- 15:37SPEAKER_08: And but this is brand new information.
- 15:39SPEAKER_08: And then my uh like my high school chorus today, we played a game and you know, they were giving me names of songs from like current artists that I've never heard of.
- 15:50SPEAKER_08: And I would listen to them, and it's just it's just it's a it's just an onslaught of musical information.
- 15:58SPEAKER_08: And it's just you know, I get in the car and it's like, what I don't even know what I want to listen to.
- 16:02SPEAKER_08: I it's just I'm so overwhelmed with all of these different things.
- 16:06SPEAKER_08: And my default is sixties on six because it was a time, and you know, you said it in the beginning, and and it's an oversimplification, but it was a simpler time musically.
- 16:22SPEAKER_08: It was not a simpler time socially or culturally, no, or anything like that.
- 16:27SPEAKER_08: But musically, and and actually simpler is not the word, it was it was a time of you know, every maybe it's the sound.
- 16:41SPEAKER_08: Maybe it's just because there's not a lot of distortion.
- 16:45SPEAKER_11: It's all it's warm, it's there's a you had to have musical talent in order to make a record.
- 16:53SPEAKER_11: It's not like today where they can auto-tune you and program your music on a computer.
- 17:00SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 17:00SPEAKER_11: You know what I'm saying?
- 17:02SPEAKER_11: Anyone can be a star or music music, you know, quote unquote music star now.
- 17:08SPEAKER_11: Thanks to the internet, thanks to Pro Tools, thanks to auto-tune.
- 17:12SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 17:12SPEAKER_11: You know, I you know, I hear stuff from new artists now, yeah, and I'm like, I don't even know if that's really them singing.
- 17:19SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 17:20SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 17:21SPEAKER_11: I can't believe it.
- 17:22SPEAKER_11: I don't know.
- 17:24SPEAKER_11: I I'm not even sure when they play live, if that's really them.
- 17:27SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 17:28SPEAKER_08: Yeah, and I w when I think of the sixties, it's it's more than that though.
- 17:33SPEAKER_08: It's it's it's more than talent because you know, there are people around today that are supremely talented.
- 17:39SPEAKER_08: True.
- 17:40SPEAKER_08: Um but I a lot of the music they're making, I don't dig.
- 17:44SPEAKER_08: Um and uh the six is like some of the sixties music, the m melodically, there's a lot of melody in sixties music.
- 17:54SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 17:54SPEAKER_08: Uh there's not much melody today.
- 17:56SPEAKER_08: No.
- 17:57SPEAKER_08: It's it's it's it's all computers and it's again that that that takes talent.
- 18:01SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 18:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 18:04SPEAKER_08: As a writer, for sure.
- 18:05SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 18:06SPEAKER_08: Um so so anyway, that's my that's my thing, is I always default to sixties music as a reboot, you know, as a because that's it's kind of I mean, obviously the 50s, but the 50s the 60s is is was an overhaul.
- 18:22SPEAKER_08: You know, it was like it was like uh uh when it when it all changed.
- 18:26SPEAKER_11: Um well you look at songs that came out in 1960 compared to 1969.
- 18:31SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 18:31SPEAKER_11: That whole decade it is a completely different isn't it is completely different from that that in that span time.
- 18:38SPEAKER_08: No question.
- 18:39SPEAKER_11: Is completely different.
- 18:40SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 18:41SPEAKER_11: Because you still in 1960, you still had a doo-wop.
- 18:44SPEAKER_11: You still had those, you know, like you said, the one, four, five.
- 18:47SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 18:48SPEAKER_11: You get to sixty nine, you already got you got Led Zeppelin.
- 18:51SPEAKER_11: You got Jimmy Hendrix Hendrix.
- 18:52SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 18:52SPEAKER_11: You've got the you know, and the Beatles are still together.
- 18:54SPEAKER_11: Yeah, you've got the you know, the beach boys were doing pet sounds.
- 18:57SPEAKER_08: Deep Purple started in 69 or something like that.
- 18:59SPEAKER_08: 68, something like that, yeah.
- 19:00SPEAKER_08: Kiss started in what?
- 19:02SPEAKER_08: 70?
- 19:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah, something like that.
- 19:04SPEAKER_11: Like at the end of the 60s?
- 19:06SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 19:07SPEAKER_11: I mean, I mean, come on.
- 19:08SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 19:09SPEAKER_08: Um and that got me thinking too, because I w I found a th I found a thing, and I'm sure you've done this.
- 19:14SPEAKER_11: Um I found lots of things.
- 19:18SPEAKER_08: I want uh I found a where you can type in your birthday.
- 19:23SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah.
- 19:24SPEAKER_08: And it tells you what songs were number one.
- 19:27SPEAKER_11: Ah.
- 19:27SPEAKER_08: Like in in different countries and and and things like that.
- 19:30SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 19:31SPEAKER_08: Um so I was born in 73.
- 19:33SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 19:33SPEAKER_08: Actually, I'm not gonna give you my birth date, but I'll I'll uh it was December in 1973.
- 19:38SPEAKER_08: And so these were the number one records on the day that I was born.
- 19:43SPEAKER_11: Alright.
- 19:44SPEAKER_08: Um, so in I guess it in the UK.
- 19:49SPEAKER_08: Because this is this is the the um Union Jack.
- 19:53SPEAKER_08: Union Jack.
- 19:53SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 19:54SPEAKER_08: What's the difference?
- 19:55SPEAKER_08: And this is gonna be a stupid question.
- 19:57SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 19:58SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 19:58SPEAKER_11: No, we never there's no such thing as stupid question.
- 20:00SPEAKER_08: So wait, wait, wait.
- 20:01SPEAKER_08: So this is the Union Jack, okay?
- 20:03SPEAKER_11: Correct.
- 20:03SPEAKER_08: What is this Great Britain?
- 20:05SPEAKER_11: No, that's Australia.
- 20:06SPEAKER_08: That's Australia?
- 20:07SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 20:08SPEAKER_11: Oh.
- 20:08SPEAKER_11: Because they were a penal colony.
- 20:09SPEAKER_08: Because they were a British col British colony.
- 20:10SPEAKER_08: Well, it was a penal colony.
- 20:11SPEAKER_08: Penal colony.
- 20:12SPEAKER_08: Right, right, right.
- 20:12SPEAKER_08: I knew that.
- 20:13SPEAKER_08: I didn't know that.
- 20:14SPEAKER_08: Okay, so in uh Britain.
- 20:16SPEAKER_11: Well, that's why Hawaii's flag has the Union Jack in it, too.
- 20:20SPEAKER_08: I didn't know Hawaii's flag has the Union Jack in it.
- 20:22SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 20:22SPEAKER_11: Oh.
- 20:23SPEAKER_08: Well, I guess I should look at the Hawaii's flag more often.
- 20:25SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 20:26SPEAKER_08: Um on my birthday um in 1973 in the UK, Slade Merry Christmas, everybody was the number one song.
- 20:40SPEAKER_08: Alright, well, that makes sense.
- 20:42SPEAKER_08: I have never heard the song.
- 21:11SPEAKER_08: No, I I know I haven't.
- 21:13SPEAKER_08: In the United States, the number one song was Charlie Rich, the most beautiful girl in the world.
- 21:19SPEAKER_11: That's a good song.
- 21:20SPEAKER_11: Hey, did you happen to see the most beautiful girl in the world?
- 21:25SPEAKER_08: It's not letting me click on that one.
- 21:27SPEAKER_08: I'm not sure why.
- 21:28SPEAKER_08: No, it's because it's stupid.
- 21:29SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 21:30SPEAKER_08: In Australia, The Rolling Stones, Angie.
- 21:46SPEAKER_11: I like this song a lot, but I hate the way he sings it.
- 21:49SPEAKER_08: Oh, I know.
- 21:52SPEAKER_05: Is he 80?
- 21:53SPEAKER_08: Yeah, he is.
- 21:54SPEAKER_08: He's in his 80s.
- 21:55SPEAKER_11: Oh, he's got everybody's watching.
- 22:00SPEAKER_08: The guy is like I don't know, he's like three foot tall and Mick Jagger.
- 22:06SPEAKER_08: He's not three feet tall.
- 22:07SPEAKER_08: I know.
- 22:08SPEAKER_08: It just seems like he's so small.
- 22:10SPEAKER_08: He's so small and thin and just but he kills it.
- 22:14SPEAKER_08: He's got the voice still.
- 22:16SPEAKER_08: It's just amazing.
- 22:17SPEAKER_11: He's an entertainer, man.
- 22:19SPEAKER_08: Um number one on my birthday in 1973 in Canada.
- 22:23SPEAKER_08: What is this?
- 22:24SPEAKER_08: I remember I remember having the vinyl.
- 22:30SPEAKER_05: Carpenter's yeah.
- 22:31SPEAKER_08: Top of the world.
- 22:32SPEAKER_08: I had this album.
- 22:36SPEAKER_11: I don't know why, but this sun this sums up Canada.
- 22:39SPEAKER_11: You know what I mean?
- 22:41SPEAKER_08: Literally.
- 22:54SPEAKER_08: Alright.
- 22:55SPEAKER_08: And then finally, um, hmm, where was this?
- 22:59SPEAKER_11: I want to see what Germany was.
- 23:00SPEAKER_11: Is that what is it?
- 23:01SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's Germany.
- 23:01SPEAKER_08: Okay, so so Lobo, I'd love you to want me.
- 23:06SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 23:09SPEAKER_03: I'd love you to want me.
- 23:13SPEAKER_03: The way that I want you.
- 23:15SPEAKER_03: Huh.
- 23:16unknown: The way that is shit.
- 23:17SPEAKER_08: Lobo was his biggest song was Me and You and a Dog Named Boo.
- 23:20SPEAKER_11: Oh, I thought that was Janice Jop one.
- 23:22SPEAKER_08: No, no, no.
- 23:23SPEAKER_08: That was Lobo.
- 23:23SPEAKER_08: Lobo's all okay.
- 23:25SPEAKER_08: So so those are the number one songs on my birthday.
- 23:28SPEAKER_11: Wow, that's that's great.
- 23:30SPEAKER_08: I wanna I wanna put in your birthday if that's okay.
- 23:33SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that's cool.
- 23:34SPEAKER_08: So let's see.
- 23:35SPEAKER_11: Because it's a year earlier.
- 23:37SPEAKER_08: So let's see.
- 23:39SPEAKER_08: And there.
- 23:41SPEAKER_08: And we're gonna go there.
- 23:45SPEAKER_08: And show me my number one records.
- 23:48SPEAKER_11: Alright.
- 23:49SPEAKER_08: Alright.
- 23:50SPEAKER_08: Great Britain, or the UK, I should say.
- 23:53SPEAKER_08: Great song.
- 23:54SPEAKER_08: Nilton.
- 23:55SPEAKER_08: Nielsen.
- 23:57SPEAKER_08: Oh wow.
- 24:08SPEAKER_08: I didn't know this.
- 24:10SPEAKER_08: So I I did know that this was written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans of Badfinger.
- 24:15SPEAKER_08: Uh, and it was first released by Badfinger in 1970.
- 24:18SPEAKER_08: Harry Nilssheard Badfinger's recording of Without You at a party and mistook it for a Beatles song.
- 24:24SPEAKER_08: I didn't know that.
- 24:25SPEAKER_11: That's interesting.
- 24:26SPEAKER_11: Well, you know, considering Paul McCartney discovered Badfinger.
- 24:32SPEAKER_08: That song.
- 24:33SPEAKER_08: Yeah, he did.
- 24:33SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you're absolutely right.
- 24:34SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 24:35SPEAKER_08: That song was also number one in the United States on your birthday.
- 24:39SPEAKER_08: The same one?
- 24:39SPEAKER_08: Same song.
- 24:40SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 24:40SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 24:41SPEAKER_08: Well, that's that's not exciting at all.
- 24:43SPEAKER_08: In Australia, the number one song on your birthday.
- 24:49SPEAKER_08: Really?
- 24:50SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 24:50SPEAKER_11: American pie?
- 24:51SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 24:52SPEAKER_12: Wow.
- 24:54SPEAKER_12: Do you recall what was revealed today?
- 25:00SPEAKER_08: So that's kind of cool.
- 25:01SPEAKER_08: That's neat.
- 25:02SPEAKER_08: In Canada, a song I've never heard before.
- 25:15SPEAKER_08: This is called Love Me, Love Me, Love Me.
- 25:18SPEAKER_08: No, Love Me, Love Me, Love by Frank Mills.
- 25:21SPEAKER_08: I do believe it's instrumental.
- 25:26SPEAKER_08: Freak Canada.
- 25:27SPEAKER_08: Almost like a Floyd Kramer thing.
- 25:30SPEAKER_08: Interestingly enough, Frank Mills.
- 25:34SPEAKER_08: Didn't he used to have a photography studio in Caribou?
- 25:37SPEAKER_08: No.
- 25:39SPEAKER_08: He worked as a piano player for CBC television.
- 25:43SPEAKER_11: Well, that's interesting.
- 25:44SPEAKER_08: Alright, in Germany.
- 25:46SPEAKER_08: I don't have a sound file for you, but or a title.
- 25:50SPEAKER_08: Number one on your birthday on this uh in Germany.
- 25:55SPEAKER_08: Tony Marshall.
- 25:56SPEAKER_08: Komm, gib mir dein Hand.
- 25:58SPEAKER_11: Oh, that's the Beatles version of I Wanna Hold Your Hand.
- 26:01SPEAKER_08: You want to hold your hand, yeah.
- 26:02SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 26:02SPEAKER_08: Marshall trained as an opera singer in Karlsruhe, graduating in 1965.
- 26:07SPEAKER_08: That's all they have.
- 26:08SPEAKER_08: So it's the German version of I Wanna Hold Your Hand by Tony Marshall.
- 26:12SPEAKER_08: It was number one.
- 26:13SPEAKER_11: That's lame.
- 26:14SPEAKER_11: It is like just break, you know, just like that.
- 26:16SPEAKER_11: But that's kind of cool.
- 26:17SPEAKER_08: That's on uh the website thisdayinmusic.com.
- 26:20SPEAKER_08: That's cool.
- 26:20SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 26:21SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 26:21SPEAKER_11: Nito.
- 26:21SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 26:22SPEAKER_08: Nito Mosquito.
- 26:24SPEAKER_08: Nito Mosquito.
- 26:25SPEAKER_08: So uh I just thought that was interesting, so uh we did that.
- 26:29SPEAKER_08: Uh I think it's now time to um let's play our mixtape.
- 26:33SPEAKER_10: Is it mixtape game?
- 26:34SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 26:34SPEAKER_08: Oh, and I and I have some interesting news about the mixtape game.
- 26:38SPEAKER_08: Uh but before we d do that, uh let's see.
- 26:42SPEAKER_08: Because they answered uh they answered uh this week.
- 26:47SPEAKER_08: Who's they?
- 26:48SPEAKER_08: I'll tell you in a second.
- 26:49SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 26:49SPEAKER_08: Okay, so let's review.
- 26:54SPEAKER_08: Wait, did you did Larry eventually get back to you?
- 26:56SPEAKER_08: Yes, he did.
- 26:56SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 26:57SPEAKER_11: I told you it was in Oh, did I tell you why he hadn't he didn't answer?
- 27:00SPEAKER_08: He emailed me.
- 27:01SPEAKER_08: Oh, he did, okay.
- 27:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah, to tell me.
- 27:03SPEAKER_11: Well he was in Colorado.
- 27:04SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 27:05SPEAKER_11: So and they had a doctor's appointment, so it was totally understandable.
- 27:08SPEAKER_08: Right, right, right.
- 27:09SPEAKER_08: So, so did the impartial judge I don't remember what that question was that we didn't hear from him for.
- 27:17SPEAKER_11: It was the Motown song.
- 27:19SPEAKER_08: Oh, okay.
- 27:19SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 27:20SPEAKER_08: Yeah, and what was his answer?
- 27:21SPEAKER_11: Higher and Higher by Jackie Wilson.
- 27:23SPEAKER_08: Okay, so and the impartial judge was given that information?
- 27:25SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 27:26SPEAKER_08: And what was the what was the so uh so your Higher Hig Higher and Higher by Jackie Wilson was Uncle Larry's or Cousin Larry's.
- 27:33SPEAKER_11: Not Uncle Larry's.
- 27:34SPEAKER_08: I know.
- 27:35SPEAKER_11: I mean I mean they're the same guy, but not the same guy.
- 27:37SPEAKER_11: He's named after his dad.
- 27:39SPEAKER_08: And your song was, Motown song was.
- 27:43SPEAKER_11: Uh Ain't Too Proud of Bag.
- 27:44SPEAKER_08: Ain't too proud of Bag by the Temptations.
- 27:47SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 27:47SPEAKER_08: Mine was It's the Same Old Song by the Four Tops.
- 27:51SPEAKER_08: Correct.
- 27:52SPEAKER_08: So uh I wish I had sound effects here.
- 27:58SPEAKER_08: What is who who was the winner of that round?
- 28:01SPEAKER_11: Well, the winner this week?
- 28:03SPEAKER_11: Cousin Larry.
- 28:04SPEAKER_11: Cousin Larry.
- 28:05SPEAKER_11: Higher and higher was the winner.
- 28:07SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 28:07SPEAKER_11: It was the trumpet solo that did it.
- 28:10SPEAKER_08: I can I can get behind that.
- 28:11SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 28:11SPEAKER_08: Yep, I can get behind that.
- 28:13SPEAKER_11: That was that was the clincher.
- 28:15SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 28:16SPEAKER_08: So um that was where you want me coconut.
- 28:20SPEAKER_08: Sure we're gonna coke.

- 28:43SPEAKER_11: Uh Peering through a rainy window or you know, like whatever it was.
- 28:47SPEAKER_08: Appearing through yeah, the song that you think of when if you're peering through a rainy window.
- 28:52SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 28:53SPEAKER_08: Um, and I had these these don't count because they're not a part of them.

- 29:22SPEAKER_08: She first sent me this.
- 29:23SPEAKER_08: It's a it's a screenshot of a wiki uh headline, Michael McDonald.
- 29:29SPEAKER_08: And it says that same year he sang backing vocals on the Warren Brothers single, Better Man, from their studio album Beautiful Day in the Cold Crew World.
- 29:38SPEAKER_11: When did she find that?
- 29:39SPEAKER_08: She found it on Wiki.
- 29:40SPEAKER_08: Obviously, I didn't look hard enough, but I my response was Holy crap, are you our listener?
- 29:47unknown: Wow!
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: You actually exist.
- 29:50SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 29:51SPEAKER_08: And she says, uh yes, and and a PS.
- 29:53SPEAKER_08: I struggled to send the clip because Messenger couldn't figure out who Chris O'Brien was.
- 29:57SPEAKER_08: Uh senior moment.
- 29:58SPEAKER_08: The answer to next week's question is the Juds rocking in the rhythm of the rain.
- 30:04SPEAKER_08: Okay, so hold on.

- 30:21SPEAKER_11: Why don't you just look up the judge?
- 30:22SPEAKER_08: Well, I could have, but I w well I am, actually.
- 30:29SPEAKER_08: Maybe I d maybe I don't have them in here.
- 30:32SPEAKER_11: You don't have any judge?
- 30:33SPEAKER_08: I do, I just probably don't have them in my iTunes.
- 30:36SPEAKER_08: Okay, so let me do this then.
- 30:38SPEAKER_11: Let's do YouTube to the rescue.
- 30:42SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 30:42SPEAKER_11: I kinda ran that.
- 30:43SPEAKER_11: That should be their new uh slogan.
- 30:46SPEAKER_11: YouTube to the rescue.
- 30:47SPEAKER_08: So I think people know this song, but I I wanted to put it out there anyway.
- 30:52SPEAKER_08: Um so the the question was peering through the window on a rainy day.
- 30:57SPEAKER_08: What song do you think of what song did I pull the game out of here?
- 31:05SPEAKER_08: And so this is the one that shell that Shell thinks of.
- 31:09SPEAKER_11: Sounds like uh Eddie Rabbit.
- 31:11SPEAKER_08: It does a little bit.
- 31:12SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 31:13SPEAKER_11: Love a rainy night.
- 31:20SPEAKER_08: Yeah, peering through a rainy window song.
- 31:23SPEAKER_08: Peering through a rainy window song.
- 31:24SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 31:26SPEAKER_08: Uh, and then I got a text uh from somebody else.
- 31:32SPEAKER_08: My neighbor and one of our best friends, actually, uh Johnny B.'s wife.
- 31:36SPEAKER_11: Oh, Hillary.
- 31:38SPEAKER_08: Um, and she said as for the new mixtape question, I have to say Gravedigger.
- 31:48SPEAKER_08: Throwing that out for you to ponder.
- 31:51SPEAKER_08: Gravedigger.
- 31:55SPEAKER_08: Dave Matthews Band.
- 31:56SPEAKER_08: Oh, okay.
- 31:57SPEAKER_08: So I'll play a little bit of that.
- 32:00SPEAKER_08: So this is what she thinks of when she's peering through a rainy window.
- 32:05SPEAKER_10: Wow.
- 32:12SPEAKER_07: Cyrus Jones 1810 to 1913.
- 32:18SPEAKER_07: Great grandchildren believe you could live to a hundred and three.
- 32:23SPEAKER_07: A hundred and three is forever when you're just okay.
- 32:28SPEAKER_11: So Cyrus Jones.
- 32:30SPEAKER_08: Interesting choice.
- 32:31SPEAKER_08: Interesting choice.
- 32:32SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 32:33SPEAKER_11: I've never heard this song.
- 32:35SPEAKER_08: I don't think I have either, to be honest with you.
- 32:37SPEAKER_08: I've heard this album.
- 32:38SPEAKER_08: The great Carter Buffer.
- 32:40SPEAKER_08: Oh, word.
- 32:40SPEAKER_08: Are you kidding?
- 32:41SPEAKER_08: That guy's awesome.
- 32:44SPEAKER_08: Uh, just for your information, uh, she says, also, we are sending one of their kids to ATLC.
- 32:51SPEAKER_08: Which one?
- 32:51SPEAKER_08: Do you uh Anna Marie.
- 32:53SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 32:54SPEAKER_08: Do you know?
- 32:55SPEAKER_08: She says, Do you know if Doug is still still has anything to do with that?
- 32:59SPEAKER_08: And I said, Oh yes.
- 33:01SPEAKER_08: And she says, Oh, good.
- 33:02SPEAKER_08: I feel like he wouldn't let anything be too crazy.
- 33:05SPEAKER_08: I said, She will be in good hands.
- 33:07SPEAKER_11: I will take good care of her, don't worry.
- 33:09SPEAKER_11: She's gonna have a great time.
- 33:11SPEAKER_11: Okay, so Well, Kristen went to ETLC.
- 33:14SPEAKER_11: She did?
- 33:15SPEAKER_11: I'm almost positive.
- 33:16SPEAKER_11: It's back when Johnny B was uh the residence director, and we were at NNM at the time.
- 33:23SPEAKER_11: I'm pretty sure Kristen went.
- 33:24SPEAKER_08: I did not know that.
- 33:25SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 33:26SPEAKER_08: She's gonna be my daughter-in-law, and I don't even know that.
- 33:28SPEAKER_11: Well, some father-in-law you're gonna pay.
- 33:30SPEAKER_08: Apparently, my goodness.
- 33:32SPEAKER_08: Um okay, so so yeah, I just wanted to throw those out there.
- 33:37SPEAKER_08: Well, that's cool.
- 33:37SPEAKER_11: I'm glad I'm glad people are getting involved.
- 33:39SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 33:40SPEAKER_08: That's awesome.
- 33:40SPEAKER_08: So, um who does do you have Larry's uh contribution to this question or no?
- 33:46SPEAKER_11: Oh, hold on, I'm getting another avalanche.
- 33:49SPEAKER_11: I'm getting inundated.
- 33:51SPEAKER_11: Yes, I do.
- 33:52SPEAKER_11: Okay, also I gotta I gotta so I quote him directly.
- 33:56SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 33:57SPEAKER_11: I don't want to uh misquote cousin Larry.
- 33:59SPEAKER_08: Okay, so the mixtape question once again.
- 34:01SPEAKER_11: Okay, so the mixtape quick guy.
- 34:06SPEAKER_11: Okay, so he actually had a few different ones he wanted to go with.
- 34:10SPEAKER_08: Well, that's not fair.
- 34:11SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that's what I said.
- 34:12SPEAKER_11: But he said the first song that came to mind for me was Rainy Day People by Gordon Lightfoot.
- 34:18SPEAKER_08: Oh, alright.
- 34:20SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 34:21SPEAKER_08: That's a good song.
- 34:24SPEAKER_08: What were his other two?
- 34:25SPEAKER_08: We're gonna go with that one.
- 34:26SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 34:27SPEAKER_08: That's his choice.
- 34:28SPEAKER_11: Uh he chose uh well, he said so many great songs to choose from.
- 34:34SPEAKER_11: The rain song by Led Zeppelin, Listen to the Rhythm of the Falling Rain by the Cascades and everything.
- 34:40SPEAKER_11: And this one was Everybody Hurts by REM.
- 34:42SPEAKER_11: I didn't see that one coming.
- 34:43SPEAKER_08: Well, you know, they're tak some of these people are taking it literally.
- 34:47SPEAKER_08: Like the word rain.
- 34:49SPEAKER_08: You know, because Yeah, but I get it.
- 34:51SPEAKER_08: I do too.
- 34:51SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 34:52SPEAKER_08: So, but I didn't do that.
- 34:53SPEAKER_08: Uh I did.
- 34:54SPEAKER_08: You did?
- 34:55SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 34:55SPEAKER_11: Well, it's because it was the first thing that came it was the first song that came to my mind as soon as I read the question.
- 35:00SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 35:01SPEAKER_08: So well, I I didn't do that, and I I'm gonna well let me let me play his uh let me play some Gordon Lightfoot here.
- 35:12SPEAKER_03: Rainy day lovers don't like it.
- 35:15SPEAKER_08: It's a great song.
- 35:16SPEAKER_03: It is a great song.
- 35:17SPEAKER_03: Living down like you.
- 35:19SPEAKER_08: And you know, really any Gordon Lightfoot song as you're peering through a window on a rainy day fits.
- 35:25SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 35:27SPEAKER_11: Not to be morbid, but the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
- 35:30SPEAKER_11: Very rainy day.
- 35:32SPEAKER_11: You know what I'm saying?
- 35:34SPEAKER_11: Those guys were not thinking of songs at that point.
- 35:38SPEAKER_08: No.
- 35:39SPEAKER_08: So really honestly, yeah, Gordon Lightfoot.
- 35:43SPEAKER_11: Or uh He's kind of a rainy day guy.
- 35:45SPEAKER_08: You know what I mean?
- 35:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, and you know, I think when I I put Gordon Lightfoot, and I don't know why.
- 35:50SPEAKER_08: I I put Gordon Lightfoot in the same realm as Don Williams.
- 35:57SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah.
- 35:58SPEAKER_11: Well, same same kind of vocal gentle giant type, yeah.
- 36:04SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 36:05SPEAKER_08: So the Rainy Day People is um uh cousin Larry's choice.
- 36:11SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 36:11SPEAKER_08: Uh do you want to do yours or mine?
- 36:14SPEAKER_08: You choose.
- 36:16SPEAKER_08: No, I don't do yours.
- 36:17SPEAKER_08: Because you you you went with rain.
- 36:18SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 36:19SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 36:19SPEAKER_11: Uh rainy day and Monday.
- 36:21SPEAKER_11: Rainy days and Mondays.
- 36:22SPEAKER_11: Oh, okay.
- 36:22SPEAKER_11: By the carpenter.
- 36:24SPEAKER_11: That was the first thing that came in my head.
- 36:27SPEAKER_11: Rainy days.
- 36:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah, see now I feel bad about mine.
- 36:31SPEAKER_08: Why?
- 36:32SPEAKER_08: Just because I didn't go that route.
- 36:35SPEAKER_11: Well, it doesn't matter.
- 36:36SPEAKER_11: No, it doesn't, but how how rainy days is this song?
- 36:42SPEAKER_11: You know what I'm saying?
- 36:42SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 36:52SPEAKER_06: Talking to myself and feeling old.
- 36:57SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah.
- 36:58SPEAKER_11: See, that's that's like a rainy day song, man.
- 37:02SPEAKER_06: Nothing ever seems to fit.
- 37:05SPEAKER_06: Hang it around, nothing to do but frown.
- 37:11SPEAKER_06: Rainy days and Mondays always get me dry.
- 37:18SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 37:19SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's a good one.
- 37:20SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 37:21SPEAKER_08: That's a good one.
- 37:22SPEAKER_08: So what I went with, and and and the only reason I'm going with this is because it's the first thing that popped into my head when you asked the question.
- 37:31SPEAKER_08: Um and I could have spent I could have spent some time um actually kind of pondering it, but I'm I went with the first thing that popped into my head.
- 37:45SPEAKER_11: I think that's the most, you know, the most real.
- 37:48SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 37:48SPEAKER_11: You know what I mean?
- 37:49SPEAKER_11: If that's the first thing that pops your head, that's probably the one.
- 37:52SPEAKER_08: I don't know why it popped into my head.
- 37:54SPEAKER_08: And maybe it's because of the music video.
- 37:55SPEAKER_11: Was it Shiny Happy People on REM?
- 37:57SPEAKER_08: No, no, no.
- 37:58SPEAKER_08: No.
- 37:59SPEAKER_08: Um it's this.
- 38:01SPEAKER_08: Hold on.
- 38:03SPEAKER_08: Uh after this commercial here.
- 38:06SPEAKER_11: We pause for a commercial break.
- 38:09SPEAKER_11: Oh, missing you.
- 38:10SPEAKER_11: John Wade, yeah.
- 38:14SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 38:15SPEAKER_08: I see myself looking out the window on a rainy day for this song.
- 38:24SPEAKER_11: But you said the video had something to do with it.
- 38:26SPEAKER_11: I thought well, maybe there's no rain.
- 38:29SPEAKER_08: There isn't.
- 38:29SPEAKER_08: Just him in a light bulb, maybe.
- 38:31SPEAKER_08: Maybe that's what I don't know maybe I thought there was rain there.
- 38:37SPEAKER_08: She looks really bad.
- 38:38SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 38:38SPEAKER_08: I feel like I feel like watching the whole video just to make sure that there's some rain somewhere because I thought, wow, he just got tackled.
- 38:43SPEAKER_08: Because I'm just otherwise I'm just crazy.
- 38:45SPEAKER_11: She should play for the Patriots.
- 38:48SPEAKER_11: She just hit him in the nose with a door.
- 38:51SPEAKER_11: Poor guy.
- 38:54SPEAKER_08: I hope there's some rain in here.
- 38:55SPEAKER_11: There's some very small wine.
- 38:58SPEAKER_09: See, this is this is a perfect example of a reaction video.
- 39:02SPEAKER_11: All you should do is just watch videos to react on mystery style.
- 39:06SPEAKER_11: Something.
- 39:08SPEAKER_11: What the frick?
- 39:09SPEAKER_11: Why is she getting makeup on?
- 39:10SPEAKER_11: She's a model.
- 39:11SPEAKER_11: Oh, that's having a picture ticket.
- 39:12SPEAKER_11: She looks very happy.
- 39:13SPEAKER_11: I'm just looking for some rain.
- 39:14SPEAKER_11: Oh, he's in a phone booth.
- 39:15SPEAKER_11: Is he Superman?
- 39:17SPEAKER_11: Hello?
- 39:18SPEAKER_11: How do you know what the hey?
- 39:19SPEAKER_11: I hate you.
- 39:23SPEAKER_08: Okay, he's walking away.
- 39:25SPEAKER_11: That's what I missed about the old days when you could slam the phone down.
- 39:28SPEAKER_11: You can't do that, but you can't do that anymore.
- 39:32SPEAKER_11: Do you think those people on the street are just like, who is this guy?
- 39:35SPEAKER_11: Well, they are too.
- 39:37SPEAKER_11: They are.
- 39:37SPEAKER_11: They're just like, whoop.
- 39:38SPEAKER_11: Oh, hey, wow.
- 39:41SPEAKER_08: We are watching the video for John Waite missing you.
- 39:46SPEAKER_08: Uh this is my pick for the rainy day.
- 39:49SPEAKER_11: Dude, he must be really drunk because she is super ugly.
- 39:55SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 39:55SPEAKER_11: Tell me how you really fit.
- 39:58SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 40:00SPEAKER_11: I mean, uh, not just ugly dude, but fugly.
- 40:04SPEAKER_11: God damn it.
- 40:05SPEAKER_11: She's like closing time type.
- 40:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah, okay.
- 40:12SPEAKER_11: What if she listens to this podcast?
- 40:14SPEAKER_10: She's probably dead by now.
- 40:19SPEAKER_08: Please beat some rain.
- 40:25SPEAKER_11: I see it's smoking.
- 40:27SPEAKER_11: Well, yeah, it was the 80s, everybody smoking.
- 40:29SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that's true.
- 40:30SPEAKER_11: You know.
- 40:35SPEAKER_11: That doesn't look like a very comfortable chair.
- 40:37SPEAKER_11: I'm sorry.
- 40:38SPEAKER_11: Oh, where'd that microphone come from?
- 40:42SPEAKER_08: He's not even singing into it.
- 40:43SPEAKER_11: Well no, he's like off to the side of it.
- 40:45SPEAKER_11: It's like, dude, that's not an SM58.
- 40:48SPEAKER_11: You can't do that.
- 40:50SPEAKER_11: Oh, wow! He's really strong.
- 40:52SPEAKER_11: He just broke that whole phone.
- 40:56SPEAKER_08: Yeah, there's no rain in this video.
- 40:58SPEAKER_11: There is absolutely no rain in the eye.
- 40:59SPEAKER_11: I don't there's a lot of uh oh, he's wearing some headphones.
- 41:03SPEAKER_11: And there's like like a neon light somewhere.
- 41:06SPEAKER_11: Oh, she's back! She's not hello.
- 41:08SPEAKER_08: You can't hear her though.
- 41:11SPEAKER_10: Housekeeping! Housekeeping! You want me a flap pimple?
- 41:19SPEAKER_10: I missed you! Okay, I'm gonna leave now.
- 41:23SPEAKER_10: I left you my card!
- 41:31SPEAKER_08: No, see, now there's no rain at all.
- 41:33SPEAKER_08: There's no rain at all.
- 41:34SPEAKER_08: I don't I don't know why it was the first thing that popped in my head.
- 41:38SPEAKER_08: Oh but that that's the most important thing.
- 41:40SPEAKER_08: Peering through a window on a rainy day or something, something like that.
- 41:43SPEAKER_08: So that's my choice.
- 41:44SPEAKER_11: Peering through the rainy day song.
- 41:45SPEAKER_08: Peering, yeah.
- 41:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 41:47SPEAKER_08: So uh that was my choice.
- 41:49SPEAKER_08: So I guess your um your what do we call her?
- 41:54SPEAKER_08: Him?
- 41:54SPEAKER_08: Is it her?
- 41:55SPEAKER_08: It's a her.
- 41:56SPEAKER_11: It's a her.
- 41:56SPEAKER_11: We we established that a lot of it.
- 41:57SPEAKER_08: Yeah, so so she's impartial judge, yes.
- 41:59SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 42:00SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 42:00SPEAKER_08: So so John Waite, Missing You.
- 42:03SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 42:03SPEAKER_08: Rainy Days and Mondays by the Carpenters.
- 42:06SPEAKER_08: That's mine.
- 42:07SPEAKER_08: And Rainy Day People by Gordon Lightfoot.
- 42:09SPEAKER_08: Correct.
- 42:09SPEAKER_08: There you go.
- 42:10SPEAKER_08: That's our choices.
- 42:11SPEAKER_08: Those are our choices.
- 42:11SPEAKER_08: So it's up to the judge now.
- 42:13SPEAKER_08: So uh Oh, I have to choose another one though.
- 42:16SPEAKER_08: So I won't the first week.
- 42:18SPEAKER_08: You won uh Uncle Larry, a cousin Larry! I keep calling Uncle Larry.
- 42:21SPEAKER_08: I don't know why.
- 42:22SPEAKER_08: Well, that was his dad.
- 42:23SPEAKER_08: Oh.
- 42:24SPEAKER_08: Well, Cousin Larry won the second week.
- 42:26SPEAKER_08: Yes.

- 42:30SPEAKER_11: Who won this week?
- 42:33SPEAKER_11: Turn that video back on.
- 42:35SPEAKER_11: I won't feel so stupid.
- 42:37SPEAKER_08: Okay, so you're gonna do another video, another uh another question.
- 42:41SPEAKER_11: Alright, cool.
- 42:41SPEAKER_11: So the one for next week.
- 42:43SPEAKER_11: This is next week's question.
- 42:47SPEAKER_11: Oh, this is kinda interesting.
- 42:48SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 42:48SPEAKER_11: This will this'll really uh this will really uh spark some conversation, I think.
- 42:54SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 42:54SPEAKER_11: You are a vintage bottle of Dom Perrion.
- 42:58SPEAKER_11: What song would you want to be popped to?
- 43:04SPEAKER_08: Interesting.
- 43:04SPEAKER_11: That's an interesting question.

- 43:47SPEAKER_08: Are you just taking a picture of it?
- 43:48SPEAKER_08: That's smart.

- 45:41SPEAKER_11: We Can Work It Out.
- 45:42SPEAKER_08: Oh.
- 45:43SPEAKER_11: Great song.
- 45:44SPEAKER_11: Which is a great song.
- 45:46SPEAKER_11: Uh let's see.
- 45:47SPEAKER_11: Uh in October 1965, Jane Asher decided to join the Bristol Old Vic Company, which meant that she moved away from London to the west of England just at the time the Beatles were recording tracks for rubber soul.
- 46:02SPEAKER_11: Her departure her departure upset Paul and caused the first major rift in their relationship.
- 46:10SPEAKER_08: Pause.
- 46:12SPEAKER_08: Rubber soul?
- 46:13SPEAKER_08: We can work it out.
- 46:15SPEAKER_08: It is not on rubber soul.
- 46:17SPEAKER_11: According to the market.
- 46:33SPEAKER_11: According to the market's on rubber.
- 46:37SPEAKER_11: Drive my car.
- 46:40SPEAKER_11: Norwegian wood.
- 46:41SPEAKER_11: Interesting.
- 46:42SPEAKER_11: You won't see me nowhere, man.
- 46:45SPEAKER_08: Wait, it's between Say that again?
- 46:47SPEAKER_11: It might not have been on the album.
- 46:49SPEAKER_11: It might have been at that time.
- 46:51SPEAKER_08: It's between Norwegian wood and Latin.
- 46:53SPEAKER_11: Well, I'm just saying in the book.
- 46:54SPEAKER_11: I'm not saying it's a woman.
- 46:55SPEAKER_11: Oh, oh, oh, yeah.
- 46:57SPEAKER_08: I mean, I have the song, but it's it it's not on rubber soul.
- 47:01SPEAKER_11: Oh, I'm just saying it's on the rubber soul era.
- 47:03SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 47:03SPEAKER_11: That's what I mean.
- 47:04SPEAKER_08: Alright, gotcha.
- 47:04SPEAKER_08: Maybe it's not on rubber soul.
- 47:06SPEAKER_08: I I didn't mean to interrupt.
- 47:07SPEAKER_08: Go for it.
- 47:08SPEAKER_08: Go for it.
- 47:08SPEAKER_11: And I forgot where it was.
- 47:09SPEAKER_11: Start over.
- 47:11SPEAKER_11: I don't want to start over.
- 47:12SPEAKER_11: Oh, I found it where.
- 47:14SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 47:14SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 47:14SPEAKER_11: Her departure upset Paul, blah, blah, blah.
- 47:16SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 47:17SPEAKER_11: As suggested in his songs, Paul's notion of a good woman then was someone happy just to be around him.
- 47:27SPEAKER_11: That's very narcissistic.
- 47:30SPEAKER_11: Jane's outlook was unusual.
- 47:32SPEAKER_11: Not content to be a rock star's chick.
- 47:35SPEAKER_11: She was well educated, independently minded, and wanted her own career.
- 47:40SPEAKER_11: And we can work it out.
- 47:42SPEAKER_11: Paul doesn't try to argue the merits of his case, but pleads with his woman to see things his way because he believes he is right.
- 47:51SPEAKER_11: It was typical of Paul that he didn't retreat sobbing to his room, but he merged with the positive slogan, We Can Work It Out.
- 48:00SPEAKER_11: The slightly downbeat middle-8, which you're listening to right now, with its intimations of mortality, were was added by John.
- 48:10SPEAKER_11: You've got Paul writing, We can work it out, said John.
- 48:12SPEAKER_11: Real optimistic and me impatient with life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend.
- 48:20SPEAKER_11: The song was written at Paul's father's house in Heswell, Cheshire.
- 48:25SPEAKER_11: The harmonium wash was added in the studio as an afterthought, and George Harrison suggested changing the middle eight to Waltz Time.
- 48:35SPEAKER_11: That's interesting.
- 48:36SPEAKER_11: Huh.
- 48:37SPEAKER_11: So that's uh we can work it out.
- 48:39SPEAKER_08: Alright, I'm I'm looking at it here.
- 48:40SPEAKER_08: Uh we can work it out.
- 48:42SPEAKER_08: Was first was it a title?
- 48:44SPEAKER_08: Was yeah, was it was first issued as a double A-side single with Day Tripper.
- 48:49SPEAKER_08: Uh the song was recorded during the sessions for Rubber Soul.
- 48:54SPEAKER_08: Uh, and it was released as a single.
- 48:57SPEAKER_08: Um, but yeah, it's not on Rubber Soul.
- 49:04SPEAKER_08: Okay, so it was uh It was a double A-side, so it was a single.
- 49:07SPEAKER_11: So it was a single, yeah.
- 49:08SPEAKER_08: Yeah, okay.
- 49:08SPEAKER_08: Interesting.
- 49:09SPEAKER_08: I'll never knew that.
- 49:11SPEAKER_08: Here Lynn.
- 49:16SPEAKER_12: Why is it your way?
- 49:18SPEAKER_12: There's a chance that we might fall apart before tomorrow.
- 49:22SPEAKER_12: We gotta look it out.
- 49:24SPEAKER_12: We gonna look it out.
- 49:30SPEAKER_08: Just like that.
- 49:31SPEAKER_08: Just like that.
- 49:33SPEAKER_08: Alright, good.
- 49:34SPEAKER_08: That's our beetle bonus beatles bit.
- 49:36SPEAKER_08: And now I have an album.
- 49:42SPEAKER_08: I have an album, so let the guessing bring in.
- 49:51SPEAKER_08: Wow.
- 49:52SPEAKER_08: No, it's not.
- 49:53SPEAKER_08: I didn't think so.
- 49:55SPEAKER_11: Uh is it a band or is it a solo?
- 49:58SPEAKER_11: Solo.
- 49:59SPEAKER_11: Is it a man or is it a woman?
- 50:01SPEAKER_08: It is a man.
- 50:02SPEAKER_11: Rock guy.
- 50:04SPEAKER_08: Um, I'm I'm gonna say no.
- 50:07SPEAKER_08: Um, I'm not sure.
- 50:10SPEAKER_08: I'm not sure I would consider him rock.
- 50:14SPEAKER_08: Some people might, but I don't think so.
- 50:17SPEAKER_11: High of popularity.
- 50:18SPEAKER_08: 70s.
- 50:20SPEAKER_11: 70s.
- 50:20SPEAKER_11: Is it Harry Nielsen?
- 50:21SPEAKER_11: Nope.
- 50:22SPEAKER_11: Is it Harry Nielsen type guy?
- 50:26SPEAKER_08: In a way.
- 50:26SPEAKER_08: It's Gordon Lightfoot.
- 50:27SPEAKER_08: Nope.
- 50:29SPEAKER_11: It's uh that other guy.
- 50:31SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 50:31SPEAKER_11: Oh.
- 50:32SPEAKER_11: Finally got it.
- 50:35SPEAKER_11: Here's a song by the other guy.
- 50:37SPEAKER_11: Uh okay.
- 50:38SPEAKER_11: Is it a like a folk guy?
- 50:40SPEAKER_11: Like a folk does he play an instrument?
- 50:42SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 50:43SPEAKER_08: Plays guitar.
- 50:44SPEAKER_08: Alright.
- 50:45SPEAKER_08: John Denver.
- 50:46SPEAKER_08: No.
- 50:49SPEAKER_11: Close to John Denver.
- 50:52SPEAKER_08: One could say.
- 50:53SPEAKER_11: It's Steve Colorado.
- 51:00SPEAKER_11: No.
- 51:00SPEAKER_11: Willie Wyoming.
- 51:07SPEAKER_11: That'd be a cool name.
- 51:08SPEAKER_11: That's gonna be my if I if we ever like get famous musicians, you know, you go to a hotel under pseudonym, that's gonna be a main name.
- 51:16SPEAKER_11: Willie Wyoming.
- 51:17SPEAKER_11: That's the name of the podcast.
- 51:18SPEAKER_08: Willie Wyoming's Greatest Hits.
- 51:23SPEAKER_08: This episode, Willy Wyoming's Great Hits, or the best of Willie Wyoming.
- 51:26SPEAKER_10: Or the best of Willie Wyoming.
- 51:28SPEAKER_10: I'm like, what?
- 51:30SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 51:30SPEAKER_11: How many drugs are these guys on?
- 51:33SPEAKER_11: That's that's the that's the title.
- 51:35SPEAKER_11: The best of Willie Wyoming.
- 51:39SPEAKER_11: Should create a character.
- 51:42SPEAKER_11: Next time we go out, can we be Willy Wyoming?
- 51:44unknown: Right.
- 51:45SPEAKER_08: Willy Wyoming and the Rough Riders.
- 51:47SPEAKER_08: What does Willy Wyoming sound like?
- 51:48SPEAKER_08: What does his speaking voice sound like?
- 51:50SPEAKER_11: Hey everybody.
- 51:51SPEAKER_11: I'm Willie Wyoming.
- 51:52SPEAKER_11: I'm gonna sing you a song.
- 51:54SPEAKER_11: You sound like Barney.
- 51:55SPEAKER_11: Yeah, shut up.
- 51:57SPEAKER_08: Alright, keep going.
- 51:59SPEAKER_11: Uh I forgot I forgot what I was doing.
- 52:02SPEAKER_11: Uh I said John Denver.
- 52:04SPEAKER_11: That's how we that's how we got off on this really weird tangent.
- 52:07SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 52:08SPEAKER_11: Okay, so it's a is it a John Denver type guy?
- 52:12SPEAKER_11: Yeah, kind of.
- 52:13SPEAKER_11: Kind of bokey.
- 52:15SPEAKER_11: Oh, is it John Cro Jim Croce?
- 52:18SPEAKER_11: No.
- 52:19SPEAKER_11: Oh, is it Frank Zappa?
- 52:22SPEAKER_08: Nope.
- 52:23SPEAKER_08: That was a jump.
- 52:24SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 52:25SPEAKER_08: Warren Z Vaughn.
- 52:26SPEAKER_08: Nope.
- 52:30SPEAKER_11: Give me some hints.
- 52:31SPEAKER_08: There is a Beatles connection.
- 52:35SPEAKER_11: Oh, it's James Taylor.
- 52:37SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 52:39SPEAKER_08: First artist signed to Apple Records.
- 52:42SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 52:43SPEAKER_08: Beatles record company.
- 52:44SPEAKER_08: Their own record company, I should say.
- 52:47SPEAKER_08: I'm a huge James Taylor fan.
- 52:48SPEAKER_08: You know that.
- 52:49SPEAKER_08: Yes, I am.
- 52:50SPEAKER_11: No, you're not.
- 52:51SPEAKER_08: And I'm sure we have done James.
- 52:53SPEAKER_11: You're a bigger Willie Wyoming fan.
- 52:55SPEAKER_11: Now.
- 53:00SPEAKER_08: So I saw James Taylor on my honeymoon back in 97.
- 53:05SPEAKER_08: Put on a fantastic show.
- 53:08SPEAKER_08: And then luckily last year James Taylor came to Bangor.
- 53:11SPEAKER_08: And for my 26th anniversary, we went again to see James Taylor.
- 53:17SPEAKER_08: And again, put on a great show, although he had a cold.
- 53:21SPEAKER_08: Um but he's still still a little bit more.
- 53:23SPEAKER_11: Well, I mean, I'm sorry, but you know, James Taylor, you know, 50% is still way better than most anybody else.
- 53:31SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah.
- 53:32SPEAKER_08: It's true.
- 53:32SPEAKER_08: It's true.
- 53:33SPEAKER_08: So uh the album that I chose is a great um Oh, that's a good one, yeah.
- 53:40SPEAKER_08: It is.
- 53:41SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 53:41SPEAKER_08: It's a double live album.
- 53:43SPEAKER_08: Uh James Taylor Live is what it's called, basically.
- 53:46SPEAKER_08: And it's a great representation of what James Taylor is like live.
- 53:51SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 53:51SPEAKER_08: I mean, that's what you want out of a live album, but you know, I but I mean I have seen James a couple of times, and it's one of those things, it's like a it's like a um comfortable coat or a comfortable pair of jeans.
- 54:10SPEAKER_08: You know, a lot of people say this that if you see James Taylor once, you've seen him you know, every time.
- 54:16SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 54:17SPEAKER_08: And there's truth to that.
- 54:18SPEAKER_08: I mean that he doesn't do much different.
- 54:20SPEAKER_08: I mean, he changes it up here and there.
- 54:22SPEAKER_08: Oh, sure.
- 54:23SPEAKER_08: He's got great musicians with him, great background singers, and and they do they do some different things.
- 54:28SPEAKER_08: But it's like a warm blanket.
- 54:30SPEAKER_08: It's it's it's comforting.
- 54:33SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 54:33SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 54:34SPEAKER_08: Um, and so this album, this live album, is perfect.
- 54:39SPEAKER_08: I mean, it's it's a great representation of what he is uh when you see him live.
- 54:43SPEAKER_08: So I'm gonna try and play you a couple of these.
- 54:46SPEAKER_08: Um because there are some some live moments that are my favorite.
- 54:53SPEAKER_08: Uh let's see, and one of them is this.
- 54:57SPEAKER_08: Of course, Steve Gadd on drums.
- 54:59SPEAKER_08: Oh, Steve Gadd is the man.
- 55:02SPEAKER_08: Um so this is the intro to Country Road.
- 55:06SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 55:07SPEAKER_08: Do you know the song Country Road?
- 55:08SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 55:09SPEAKER_08: So I have this album.
- 55:10SPEAKER_08: You have this album?
- 55:11SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 55:11SPEAKER_08: Okay, then you know this part that I'm talking about.
- 55:13SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 55:14SPEAKER_08: Um I want to forward to it.
- 55:16SPEAKER_08: I'll just play a little bit of the first verse.
- 55:18SPEAKER_08: Uh if I can get into it.
- 55:24SPEAKER_08: Of course, at this point they don't know what song it is.
- 55:26SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 55:28SPEAKER_08: Now they do.
- 55:32SPEAKER_11: I love that.
- 55:33SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 55:34SPEAKER_11: You know.
- 55:35SPEAKER_11: Well, we were doing that at Hayek.
- 55:38SPEAKER_11: It was a couple times we were like, what's the place?
- 55:40SPEAKER_11: And all of a sudden it would dawn, and we were like, oh yeah!
- 55:45SPEAKER_08: So this is on his Greatest Tits album.
- 55:48SPEAKER_08: Uh which is the first I was introduced to James Taylor back in high school.
- 55:52SPEAKER_08: Was the white cover James Taylor Tits, right?
- 55:55SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 55:56SPEAKER_08: Then I eventually went back and got the album that this is on.
- 55:59SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 56:00SPEAKER_08: But so this was but there's one section here.
- 56:04SPEAKER_08: This is my favorite.
- 56:05SPEAKER_08: Gives me gives me chill bumps.
- 56:15SPEAKER_14: You know what part I'm talking about is Walk on, walk on now, walk on down, walk on down, walk on down, walk on down, walk on down, walk on down, walk on down, walk on down, you can go We've done James Taylor before, probably.
- 56:52SPEAKER_08: What?
- 56:52SPEAKER_08: Have we done James Taylor before?
- 56:53SPEAKER_08: Once before.
- 56:54SPEAKER_08: Once before.
- 56:55SPEAKER_08: I don't think it was just album.
- 56:56SPEAKER_02: No.
- 57:37SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 57:38SPEAKER_08: And the musicians that he's got playing with him uh to this day, I think he's he's had a lot of the same musicians play with him every tour.
- 57:44SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 57:45SPEAKER_08: Uh top notch.
- 57:47SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 57:47SPEAKER_08: Who doesn't want to play with James Taylor?
- 57:49SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 57:49SPEAKER_08: You know?
- 57:50SPEAKER_08: Uh let's see.
- 57:51SPEAKER_08: My some other favorites of mine on this album.
- 57:55SPEAKER_08: You know, James Taylor, just his funny, you know, just like let's just hold on.
- 58:04SPEAKER_08: He does a country song here.
- 58:05SPEAKER_08: But I want to get to this right here.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: Here's a song that George Jones did.
- 58:16SPEAKER_01: He did it so good, it makes you weep.
- 58:19SPEAKER_01: Makes your dog weep to hear this song.
- 58:23SPEAKER_01: Makes your roof leak to hear this song.
- 58:26SPEAKER_01: Um this is a song called She Thinks I Still Care.
- 58:35SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 58:37SPEAKER_08: That's what you get with James Taylor.
- 58:38SPEAKER_11: Um well, he was on The Simpsons, so.
- 58:41SPEAKER_08: James Taylor was?
- 58:42SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 58:42SPEAKER_08: I think I knew that actually.
- 58:44SPEAKER_11: Um He was on the episode where Homer goes to space.
- 58:47SPEAKER_08: Uh let's see.
- 58:49SPEAKER_08: This is always one of my favorite songs.
- 59:14SPEAKER_08: I'm not gonna spend a whole lot of time, but there was one, uh there is one uh let's see, up on the roof.
- 59:19SPEAKER_08: I do love this song.
- 59:20SPEAKER_08: This is an old Carol King Jerry Goffin song.
- 59:22SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 59:23SPEAKER_08: Um people are where that comes in.
- 59:32SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 59:33SPEAKER_08: So powerful.
- 59:36SPEAKER_08: Look forward to it.
- 59:43SPEAKER_02: I got to go away.
- 59:54SPEAKER_02: Uh far away from the hunt from all that rings.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_02: Come on, it's the only way that I know this is Of course the drifters did this originally.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_08: A lot different.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_08: When I hear that though, I think 80s.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_11: It's like a it's like a TV theme show.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_11: Almost like uh Greatest American Hero or something.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_08: Yeah, anyway.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_08: Uh you can't go wrong.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_08: This album came out uh let's see, 1993.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_08: So it was the year after I graduated high school.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_08: It's crazy.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_08: I know, right?
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_08: Um I mean I have virtually every album James Taylor ever put out.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_08: I don't have this, he put out a standards one, an album of standards not too long ago that I don't have.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_08: I know.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_11: Um probably sitting in you know Martha's vineyard going, oh that freaking.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_08: And you know, I opened for his brother.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you did.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_08: Um Livingston.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_08: Livingston.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_08: Livingston, yeah, Livingston Taylor.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_11: Man, I I you gotta feel bad for that guy.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_08: I know.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_11: A little bit.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_11: Number one, you're James Taylor's little brother.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_11: Number two, your name is Livingston.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_11: I mean, how much did his parents hate him?
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_11: You know what I mean?
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I guess.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_11: I mean, you know, first child goes, oh, it's gonna be James.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_11: James, and then the I don't know, was he an accident?
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_11: Um I don't know.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_08: Was he named after I always thought he was named after and they're like, I don't know, Livingston.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_11: That'll get him beat up at all.
- 1:01:50SPEAKER_08: I always thought he was named after Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_11: Well that would make that that's actually kind of cool, but yeah.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_11: I'm sorry, man.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_11: But I mean you can't how do you how do you get a nickname?
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_08: Livy?
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_08: They call him Liv.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_08: Liv?
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_11: Well, I call your daughter Liv.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_08: I know.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_11: That that's very confusing.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_11: I'm glad I'm glad I don't know both of them.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_11: Hey Liv! What?
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_11: No, no.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah, that one.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_11: Olivia.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_08: Uh so there you go.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_08: Um James Taylor Live, double CD, double album set.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_08: Um You can't go wrong.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_08: You can't go wrong.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_08: Oh, it's a great.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_08: And it spans everything from his 70s output to his 80s output.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_08: It's got Sun on the Moon on there from Never Die Young.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_08: I'm not actually that wasn't from Never Die Young, was it?
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_08: I don't know.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_11: Sun on the Moon was from this I think this might be the only James Taylor album I own.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_08: Oh, the live one?
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_08: Oh, that's a good one.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_11: But it it's a but it it spans so many Oh yeah.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_11: Like you said, it spans so much time, you know, you have like several albums.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_08: Oh yeah.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_08: So And what I what I love about James Taylor, and he's he's always done it, um, is when you go to his concerts, you know, there's no big fanfare.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_08: He walks out on stage.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_08: Just like John Hyatt did.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_08: Of course, John Hyatt with when we were seeing John Hyatt, it was small venue.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_08: So he has to I mean he's the focal point, he's gonna come out on stage.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_08: But even in the 70s, when James Taylor was at almost like at the height of his fame, um he would come out and like arrange the chairs and stuff on the stage.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_08: Almost like a stagehand, and and then he'd sit down and b by the way, uh hum James.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_08: You know?
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_11: Well, very he's a very humble guy.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_11: He's not a rock star.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_08: No.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_08: No, he's just he's just he's just and you agree you agree with me when when you asked if it was a rock guy.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_08: He's not a rock guy.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_11: No, he's not really not not really.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_08: But he was the what did I say?
- 1:03:38SPEAKER_08: He's kind of the um his name is synonymous with the 70s singer-songwriter movement, I think.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah.
- 1:03:49SPEAKER_11: I mean, I mean, just singer-songwriter in general.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_08: That would have been a good one.
- 1:03:55SPEAKER_08: Um for the for the mixtape question today.
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_11: Uh no no no no no no.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_08: No, no, no, not not not for next week.

- 1:04:18SPEAKER_08: We've already made my choice.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_08: Um This is a extra.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_08: This is a bonus.

- 1:04:26SPEAKER_08: That's a commercial.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_08: Um, but this would have been a this would have been a good choice if I if I'd have thought of it.
