- 0:41The blood, penknife the Doctor Who commentary podcast.
- 0:46I am here today, with the Charming intelligent
- 0:50charismatic. I could go on with superlatives.
- 0:53There's no need for sarcasm, Joe fabulous, podcaster Cockrum.
- 0:58How you doing today? Oh, wow, I'm blushing, now,
- 1:01after all that, that's that's very kind is completely wrong,
- 1:04but it's very kind of you to say.
- 1:05So deserve everything you get out of front of us compromise
- 1:08that the earlier, wow. But before we turn this into a
- 1:12massive loving, we are watching the horns of 9 1, episode 3.
- 1:17Sorry so great. I named a podcast after it and
- 1:21Pete. Yeah, still asking why and I
- 1:25have a question for you about, Kenny McBain.
- 1:28Oh my god. Well it's not somebody.
- 1:31We hear disgusted, any great depth.
- 1:34So now to the point that my other off accused me of making
- 1:37him up recently, I did hear that.
- 1:42But Katie McBain doesn't exist. Is that the matter was that I
- 1:50mean you could argue that he directed one of the less
- 1:56celebrated stories in Doctor Who history and that is acting on
- 2:00the wrong people go about. Yeah.
- 2:03Yeah. We're obviously not in that in
- 2:04that camp. But yeah, maybe if he directed
- 2:08city of death, people might have been a bit more complimentary.
- 2:13Well, he's part of that, pretty small group of sort of one.
- 2:19Directors from classic who aren't actually doing that
- 2:23thing. Sorry to drop.
- 2:25Do you think they're still doing that thing that they had started
- 2:27in the 60s where they were bringing fresh new directors and
- 2:30just Chuck him in at the deep end and let him do a doctor who
- 2:32just as cut their teeth a bit because that story with this guy
- 2:35or is he? I don't know much about him.
- 2:37I when I think but Allah will say he done an awful lot of
- 2:40theater. I think you okay watching it
- 2:43because I see this on the stage like yeah a big booming Opera.
- 2:47Yeah he's crazy. Costumes.
- 2:49It's not move. Some of the things I have seen
- 2:51on the stage. Yeah, but like can you think of
- 2:55any other one short directors? God, I put me on the spot.
- 2:59I know, I can't think of a no, hang on.
- 3:01No, the fellow who did The Awakening?
- 3:03He, I went Boris. My Chloe Morris.
- 3:06He only did that one go. There was the guy that did this
- 3:12is going back a long way. The guy that did the Reign of
- 3:15Terror. You had a mental breakdown
- 3:17halfway through? I'm Rick.
- 3:19Yeah, something yeah, yeah, there's not many as are mostly.
- 3:23There are people of directors that again and again.
- 3:26Yeah. I wonder why.
- 3:27Wonder if because of the result there was I won't use a mukbang
- 3:31again. I wonder what became of him.
- 3:35I can tell you what Behavior. That's what I'm a fascinating
- 3:37facts that I've gleaned. Okay, he was the producer of
- 3:41morphs and he was responsible for more on the screen and Bun.
- 3:46I've never had okay. Yeah.
- 3:48Yeah as Michael elphic and our God who is the guy from Men
- 3:51Behaving Badly that wasn't Martin clunes.
- 3:54Oh Laura see they are he? Yes it is Michael Vick.
- 3:57And okay, so he had a quite a prestigious producing career,
- 4:04but only he died quite young as well.
- 4:06So, no one lasts a very long. It was in those and I want no,
- 4:10that's a shame, but there are immortalized in this four-part
- 4:13classic, they really are or Covenant.
- 4:16Let's kinda McBain in to episode three Encounters in.
- 4:20All right, so if we everyone's ready, 5 4, 3, 2, One.
- 4:29No other thing. Anybody listen to these
- 4:32alongside watching the episodes, you know?
- 4:34No, I must admit. I just enjoy the chat really,
- 4:37nobody must get around to watching the episode of the same
- 4:40time. I'm not going to bring any extra
- 4:42enjoyment to. You're just listening to the
- 4:45commentary itself, but I'd like to think that it's got a little
- 4:47bit of re-listen ability because of it did, you know, this is not
- 4:50the first time that I've done a commentary on this particular
- 4:54story. No tell me what, sorry, sorry.
- 4:58Joe, you're you're not mean, you're not a virgin.
- 5:02I would never have asked you all.
- 5:06What do you weigh two episodes? Three two, drop that piece of
- 5:10information. So, back in the day, friend of
- 5:14mine, who I met through, what used, to be listening to, and a
- 5:18show, I used to do many moons ago, and he had his own podcast,
- 5:23A really lovely guy called bench.
- 5:24Schneider who lives in Indiana and he was part of a podcast
- 5:29called the Tower of technobabble and they decided it would be a
- 5:32really good idea to try and break the world record for
- 5:34longest consecutive. I think it was webcast, they
- 5:38couldn't go out podcast. It was like a livestream.
- 5:41So they went to a thing called Wonder Fest, which was in
- 5:44Louisville, and the three of them.
- 5:48Constantly put out this podcast for over 40 hours.
- 5:54They did 40 hours of. Yes - podcasting.
- 5:57Yeah. So they could they could kind
- 5:59of, you know, obviously they get sleep brakes and stuff while.
- 6:02Yeah, one of the other stepped in, for a bit.
- 6:04So I asked my wife wouldn't be bloody coherent by the end.
- 6:08Well, they've, they were hallucinating by the end, but
- 6:12they watching this. Well, yeah, my contribution was
- 6:16to offer to, to interact and we watch the horns of nyman me.
- 6:21And Ben watch The Haunted Diamond together and did a
- 6:23commentary on. Which passed a couple of hours
- 6:25rather nicely. I thought you said it.
- 6:28Well, rehearse Juneau and you can't see this D listens, but I
- 6:34am holding up a Guinness Book of World Records certificate,
- 6:38because I took part In the event is a lazy.
- 6:42Yeah, what? And, you know, for podcasters
- 6:45that is pretty amazing. You know, was, yeah, I only did
- 6:48a couple. So, yeah.
- 6:50I feel like I'm getting a lot of Glory for nothing, but it's not
- 6:53there. He's right.
- 6:54You have a certificate. So it's all day on paper.
- 6:57Yeah. Here we go.
- 7:00You know what? Right?
- 7:02Well, I started my new shop that exact thing happened to me.
- 7:06I'll bet you rip your pants. I tore my trousers Omar style,
- 7:10right up the ass. I couldn't believe.
- 7:12You're so embarrassed all these new people.
- 7:14I was working with no. Well, I'll award is brandishing
- 7:22a gun right now. Really is, she's kicking ass.
- 7:25It really does. Alaska audio, right?
- 7:30So they've left all the non-speaking.
- 7:32Yeah, yeah. In the longer we go.
- 7:35Jettison them. Yeah, we go.
- 7:37Hopefully, they'll get eaten supper.
- 7:41Let's pick the two principal actors.
- 7:43Follow me. Kylie be really stuck it to the
- 7:48people with no lines, followed them in because they just be
- 7:51talking to them and getting nothing out of them.
- 7:53You of indeterminate sex. What do you think?
- 7:56I'm just gonna look around wildly at random.
- 7:58Things. Look at the second ones.
- 7:59Fabulous poem. She looks like yes, these props
- 8:06that very expensive, I think they probably punch them from
- 8:10the adventure game. But again I've got to praise and
- 8:13sneery. He knows the limitations of
- 8:15Doctor Who he knows a lot of corridors.
- 8:18He writes a story where there's a shit High corridors that can
- 8:22be moved around in a creative way.
- 8:26Bravo it works. Yeah, I love the idea of having
- 8:30updating the idea of the Maze and making it a microchip.
- 8:36It's great. He has a little bit of a rant
- 8:39actually, really not much of a rant because he's quite a guy.
- 8:42But on the basically says he wished, when you saw the printed
- 8:47circuit from above, yeah, it was a bit more explicit because the
- 8:50idea is circuit ships. Yeah.
- 8:52And the gates open and close. Yeah, but it's not.
- 8:56Visually very clear. Hmm I think the doctor says it
- 8:59doesn t in the text. Yes.
- 9:04Very much the case of tell don't show.
- 9:06Lovely couple wouldn't say 7 is he or she's very much into him
- 9:11when he doesn't seem quite? So Keen, maybe he's with out
- 9:16with a date with me. After this, I was going to say.
- 9:19Maybe it was waiting for salty drown.
- 9:22A corner, you know. And I sheilo confess this on
- 9:26camera, right? Me and someone who shall remain
- 9:30unnamed, Created a business before know, as I said before,
- 9:35we're going out. So that tells you who it was
- 9:37wonder? Who that could be?
- 9:39There's a, there's a website called a teaspoon and open mind.
- 9:42Have you heard of it? No, or okay.
- 9:44So, it's Doctor Who fan fiction and there is just fan fiction,
- 9:47sometimes, because Lucy McCall put foundation on there, like
- 9:51she's right explicit store, no smart from Lucina, but there is
- 9:54a lot of smart on there as well. Of course, I wrote this fabulous
- 9:58adric and Seth fanfic Anonymous or not Anonymous anymore.
- 10:05I did terrible things to be a link in the show notes,
- 10:07everyone, and they are both of age before anyone.
- 10:11Yeah, I'm sorry up. Okay.
- 10:16He's got a massive lead for to pull that.
- 10:17Now, I'm on the will get it. I think a bit later in this
- 10:23episode. The, the mechanism for moving,
- 10:27the transmat egg from one reality to another very basic.
- 10:32I find. Oh, this looks at like a bit
- 10:35from the generation game, cuddly toys.
- 10:41So, for those of you not watching along the, the Victims
- 10:46are putting their High met you cite crystals on to a revolving
- 10:50door that disappears into a wall.
- 10:53What are you talking about? I have you seen the generation
- 10:55game. This this pantomime is basically
- 10:58what they do at the end of the. Yeah, pretty much tell you what,
- 11:00the nine months ago, a really awesome stereo system then they
- 11:04look at that rack systems. Got they're all a little M and
- 11:06needles and button which supplies.
- 11:09Oh a heavy Rock. I'm going to set a now.
- 11:13I'm going to say it's like something really.
- 11:15Like not like the Osmonds. All right.
- 11:19Yeah, yeah, crazy horses. I love how can hear in plain
- 11:23sight now? Well, I'm sorry 02:36.
- 11:30Do feel quite big though? Yeah, it's how he's being shot
- 11:35if they feel quite tall. Yes, yeah.
- 11:37No. I'll give you that.
- 11:38And in general, I like this is a conversation.
- 11:41You cannot have another doctor who fan your evening.
- 11:43I like how the console Is roll up the walls, rather boring
- 11:48panels free-standing. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:51Yeah. And then that work better on
- 11:52whether dr. Tinker's.
- 11:53It's like these great big pillars but they're all yes.
- 11:57Quite oh, yeah. They always say the right now.
- 11:58Yeah, I don't think the 91 have particularly good peripheral
- 12:03vision. Do they cuz The way they hide
- 12:06behind the the console's. It's not real.
- 12:11He's behind you. Basically, you did.
- 12:16You could play that with this so, can you?
- 12:18Yeah, absolutely. I think about the more, I
- 12:20thought this should be on the stage.
- 12:23I paid to see it. Do you imagine Crown Crowder's
- 12:25voice could reach the back of the theater?
- 12:27He might, he be like, one of, you know, they do those Showings
- 12:31of Rocky Horror at people, go dressed up as the characters.
- 12:34You can imagine people go and dress up as characters around
- 12:40every town. Yeah.
- 12:42Now, this is the best best to acting.
- 12:44They've done so far. Those exercise decide the cases.
- 12:48Yeah, Mark, how would you play We're my acting.
- 12:52Abilities are be one of these sacrifices.
- 12:55Okay, I'll definitely go. So do do know I goes the copilot
- 13:00split, trousers. No, although you already got
- 13:01some onions. Go prepared.
- 13:03That's what I say. Don't go Commander though.
- 13:12Talking of. Sorry.
- 13:18Well, this pair I wear my, I Really Work your little Awards.
- 13:22That's a very compliment when for the show.
- 13:24Well, no, she is gorgeous. Yeah.
- 13:27Do you think I can ask you to think that he was pulling above
- 13:30his weight there? I don't know whether I'm best
- 13:36place to talk about his I mean he's a very unconventional
- 13:44looking man. Why not?
- 13:46There's such a strange couple because she's basically an
- 13:49aristocrat. Isn't she in?
- 13:50Yes, Bohemian lowlife but he's he has got an incredible
- 13:55Charisma. You can't deny that.
- 13:59And I think, possibly, that might have been what it was.
- 14:02That this is ridiculous. Here we go.
- 14:07Where is she? Was just absolutely beautiful
- 14:10and very small so you can see what Drew him.
- 14:13Mmm. But what's clear is, and I'm
- 14:15sure you've know people like this in your life, you know,
- 14:17friends of yours where you see a relationship from the outside
- 14:21and go up by, this is never going to work, everyone.
- 14:25Sort of goes, I'm so happy for you.
- 14:29Well, one of my wife's friends once said that, we were the two
- 14:32most oppositely educated people she's ever met.
- 14:35What does that mean? I think she was commenting on
- 14:39the fact of my wife's got a PhD in a masters and I have I don't
- 14:43have let you cse's. I scraped through this is what's
- 14:46called so much like I don't turn Ramana but you seem like a very
- 14:50smart man to me. Well, I'm full of not why I'm
- 14:55full of shit but I'm full of useless facts on stuff that's
- 14:59going to not really make me any kind of wealth or money but I
- 15:02can remember lots of stuff about this kind of, but they are music
- 15:06interest to people. My way.
- 15:08Wow, if you're suitably sad enough, yes possibly, excuse me.
- 15:12I'm already trying to entice you back.
- 15:18Okay, so I've completely lost track of the plot so they're
- 15:22trying to figure out why they're trying to generate a black hole.
- 15:27What would be the point of generating?
- 15:28A black hole is to come take a hyperspace tunnel between two
- 15:33Thrice. Is that right?
- 15:35Absolutely. So it's like like sort of diving
- 15:37through a hole to another planet like a wormhole.
- 15:40Yeah. Yes. 90.
- 15:43Stop it. Now, you're talking my language.
- 15:45Oh yeah. I'm a bit DS9 only.
- 15:49So, I'll here we go. We've got soul deed giving one
- 15:52of his fabulous. Insane speeches to his crowd of
- 15:55about five people. Yeah, you can see the budget is,
- 16:01it's been used. Although one point, they put the
- 16:03camera really high in the state. I don't know quite how they do
- 16:06it, there's a sure. Yeah.
- 16:09Unfortunately, it needs to be about, you know, 50,000 people
- 16:13rather than you could do it these days.
- 16:17Just have a green screen and stick a load of CGI people in.
- 16:20Yeah. What I do that?
- 16:21Remember in rings of akhaten. Oh yeah.
- 16:24But you see that same robot about 80 times in the audience
- 16:29it's the same little bit of the audience.
- 16:30So I'm going to shock you Joe the white.
- 16:35I quite like the rings of akhaten the reserve accent is my
- 16:39favorite episode of Series 7, B. Now, what are you go?
- 16:43I've stopped doing it. The bar is relatively low in
- 16:45serious. Very No, I was clamoring to do
- 16:50nightmare in silver, you know. Mmm will join into the Senate,
- 16:53rather Tardis. Oh God.
- 16:57But but sometimes some of the worst stories are the ones that
- 17:00you can get the best mileage out of four to Doomsday had a blast
- 17:04for that, you know. Yeah.
- 17:07That sequence a where he was screaming at you know those
- 17:09geriatrics that again does show just how rubbish these people
- 17:14are desperate for this old Empire and to go around and
- 17:19civilize and destroy all the other planets.
- 17:23And yet they're just a buzz from whimpering old men.
- 17:25It's called even Rouser cry. They kind of go.
- 17:29Yeah. Scorned.
- 17:34Yeah, people often this guy's the youngest one of the lot is
- 17:37that, I believe they deserve to be duped by the 91.
- 17:40Yeah. Yeah.
- 17:41They had it coming. There's no women on scone us.
- 17:43If you notice that, Maybe I will buy mr.
- 17:46Trick, sorry, Lyle Daddy's, but too many old men.
- 17:57In the sort of half, dog? That no one Silhouettes, pretty
- 18:00good. Yeah.
- 18:03And this is being episode for, you know, where they keep doing
- 18:06this or bleach. Red lighting, go.
- 18:08Yeah, that Rascal. Yeah.
- 18:10Wife and family Spirit. Yeah, Douglas horns of death
- 18:13going crazy. Dudley's horn to death.
- 18:21Excuse me while I whip out Dudley's horns of death.
- 18:25Yeah, that just gesture Kovac doing his Dudley Simpson.
- 18:28He's a genius, isn't he? He was at the BFI right for the
- 18:31sea devil, Z managed to make Malcolm's Clark's Music, sound
- 18:35lyrical, are the sea Devils. The music from that, I
- 18:40absolutely hated it. And then I had a kind of Road to
- 18:45Damascus moment where I just suddenly, it's something clicked
- 18:48in my mind and I thought, wow, this is bloody brilliant.
- 18:50It's weird and discordant it, which makes it kind of creepy.
- 18:53Have you ever heard the orbital version, by one of the Hartnell
- 18:58brothers from orbital? So, I'll send you a link after
- 19:01we finish. Recording is so good.
- 19:03I'll send you a picture Nick, LeBrons pubes, and you sir, I
- 19:07think they were planning to do. But yeah, I think they were
- 19:21planning on doing an album of like reinterpretations of
- 19:26classic Doctor Who music, but it never really, it never came to
- 19:29anything. But that version of the CW's by
- 19:32orbital ways hanging after hear that.
- 19:35And okay, well, I'll tell you what, well, I'll release this,
- 19:37put this will you put this down in the in the Twitter below?
- 19:41Yeah, it for everyone to listen to it, enough to do.
- 19:43New Hot smart one but who cares, you know.
- 19:45They salute. He's really having trouble with
- 19:50his plunger there and he really is he's given that he's grabbing
- 19:53it with both hands. Gonna get all the anchor of the
- 19:56barely height of. Its kind of said, before I
- 19:59peripheral vision is absolute, shit is not very good at the
- 20:03size of his age. It makes you wonder how they
- 20:05managed to conquer the last planet really because they're
- 20:07bloody hopeless, aren't they really that's Beyonce spray on
- 20:10these gullible fools us? Yeah.
- 20:12Yeah. We should elect these bozos into
- 20:14power in the first place should be this.
- 20:16Whole weird subplot of our canine.
- 20:18I'm not sure this goes anywhere. It's just an excuse to take him
- 20:22out of the program for a while. It becomes a bit too useful
- 20:26doesn't need because he's he's like the Sonic Screwdriver on
- 20:30steroids. He can do anything, he can blast
- 20:32stuff, he can work out how to change things.
- 20:35He can, you know, he's a genius. He quit.
- 20:37Traumatizing they are these lovely little boys.
- 20:40Like, sigh heart who was 4 years old.
- 20:42This is on. Yeah, it's an 18, watched him?
- 20:44Get decapitated and going. Oh God, yeah.
- 20:46Yeah, I was, I was really upset when they took his head off.
- 20:52I'll stay. So, what, why were the homes on
- 20:56the building lighten up there because they could tell you
- 21:05that, we're going back to light up once Jesus.
- 21:15All right. I think it's to do with the fact
- 21:23that they because this was the last of the tributes wasn't it.
- 21:26And once I've got the tributes, they've got enough power to set
- 21:31the egg in motion so they can get it from crane off.
- 21:35What so what Sal it is the mattress is that is converted.
- 21:40That's the black hole. Yeah, that's powering the black
- 21:43hole travel system. What we're saying here is the
- 21:46nuts and bolts, this story actually do make a kind of
- 21:48sense, even though there's a logic to it.
- 21:50Yes, oh yeah. It's just wrapped up in Allah
- 21:54and awful lot of panto trappings other.
- 21:56The anyone does peeking around console active better than Tom
- 21:59Bass. It's a hotly contested thing
- 22:03really is the eggs they do recommend.
- 22:11Isn't it is very welcome. Indeed no more.
- 22:14Chaminda. Stop, you're taking me back.
- 22:17Nano know how those normal expect to get in.
- 22:21And out of that thing though is I know I can barely got the
- 22:24stairs let alone fight their way out of the gate is in my
- 22:36towelettes to protect their Mother's Day.
- 22:39Jesus. Grecian.
- 22:47I think they all got my knowledge on this stuff is poor
- 22:50Nathan's going to be sad. I don't go allows you idiots.
- 22:56He can't wait to hear this. It was telling me earlier, you
- 22:59poor thing. He said he's a smart bloke you
- 23:01know all about the Greeks. Oh no I should have got Eric
- 23:04stadnyk on. He would have known all about
- 23:06it. I'm having too much fun with you
- 23:08though, sorry. All right.
- 23:12Now, we're talking about chafing with, we're recording season 5
- 23:17or the moment and we've recently done the ice Warriors Christ
- 23:21alive. Would you want to be in one of
- 23:23those suits? The fiberglass chafing you some
- 23:25mentionable larger, the costumes, in both of those
- 23:29trout, on mines, Morrow costume. You know, the ones with a little
- 23:32about the underpants on the outside.
- 23:36I mean, whoever envisaged a future looking at that.
- 23:39Yeah. Terrifying.
- 23:43Oh, in episode 4. I've just remembered.
- 23:45We go off and see Edward Warfield.
- 23:47Don't worry. We did our way.
- 23:48I that blew my mind. The first time I found out it
- 23:51was the same guy. I like, what?
- 23:53It remember the pit Rico's alert.
- 24:09How many more are coming? I mean this.
- 24:16But, you know, like the idea is there are millions of nylon.
- 24:21Yeah. We only see three.
- 24:24This was a new series episode. We would see million maybe storm
- 24:28in the place. Yeah.
- 24:32We can ask be very clever. I'll see you at the whole thing.
- 24:35Could blow like every line. What is so teaspoon in there?
- 24:43Yeah it's kind of look. So he does that business.
- 24:46We're looking at and then It's very odd, isn't it?
- 24:50Well, this is the bit of it. Where soldiers says, it's a
- 24:52Surah 63. It's the real real becomes a
- 24:58meddlesome hussy. Now.
- 24:58Only you battle. Some of us do not blaspheme.
- 25:06The name is making us smile. It's a classic.
- 25:17What more can can you ask for if you don't like this, you don't
- 25:20like fun. That's what I'm gonna say.
- 25:22There we go. That's quite good by something.
- 25:24Let me know. As he told me to break a does
- 25:30good. Playing about with consoles as
- 25:32well? He just, yeah, although sort of
- 25:34nuts and bolts of the series, technobabble flows out of his
- 25:38mouth easily. He fiddles about with things
- 25:40convincingly, he's a natural-born eccentric, like he
- 25:44was just bored to do this, right?
- 25:45He was, he was now people are quick to have a go at Tom for
- 25:50overdoing it and camping it up a bit too much just being A bit
- 25:56extra but I think because G crowd is going so crazy, but
- 26:02this he and Lala just play it completely straight and it works
- 26:06so well. I think there's a few examples
- 26:10of that, you know, across Doctor Who I think.
- 26:12That's what happens in the underwater Menace.
- 26:14We Joseph first and trout, and then it's like what?
- 26:18There's no fucking way. I'm gonna tear this and I think
- 26:22it happens in Paradise towers as well.
- 26:23We're yeah, quite who's very subdued in that whilst everyone
- 26:27else is playing it so the hill. Oh, It's all right I can explain
- 26:35everything we get about follows great.
- 26:38Yeah areas where their camera just Zooms in on Tom Baker
- 26:40looking very, very perturbed. I'll pour Ramana.
- 26:47What's going to happen to her now Oh, I feel as if they're the
- 26:53official account there. Hey, it's just crazy how he
- 26:59died. You're battling fool.
- 27:04And no one does Boggle. I'd better than look at that
- 27:07hair than Tom Baker. I'm incredibly When You Reach
- 27:10This and your podcast. I can't wife are probably about
- 27:15another 40 years, the rate we're going, but you know, we'll get
- 27:17there in the end. Well, I was just sort of
- 27:19recording speed slow. We can't be going since 2020,
- 27:26and we are about halfway through season five now, but as we were
- 27:31saying off Mike earlier, hopefully now we're getting
- 27:35towards the end of the black and white era.
- 27:37The seasons are quite a bit shorter, so that Means that we
- 27:43should start powering through a bit more quickly, so that's our
- 27:45hope. A lot me who keeps churning them
- 27:49out every two minutes? Well, you're a machine.
- 27:53What's the rumor? I heard anyway.
- 27:58Okay. Back to Twitter.
- 28:00Yes. No, not the mind.
- 28:02Probe what a great name. Mmm, someone should do a quiz
- 28:05about. That would be great.
- 28:07His native her a shirt. It's called at dr.
- 28:10Ho ho no. I was what-who idea these days.
- 28:14He says this is the perfect Doctor Who Christmas Story light
- 28:17and frothy. With a cracking, good story and
- 28:19a wonderful violent. Boo, and hiss at also has a fair
- 28:22chunk of the action to lalla Ward, who gives us a preview of
- 28:25how great she would have been playing the doctor.
- 28:28Mmm, Yeah, have discussed. Or Fair points or Fair points.
- 28:35This is Dudley Simpsons final Doctor Who Score says day ready,
- 28:39does he go out with a bang in this one?
- 28:43I think as we discussed earlier is not perhaps its greatest but
- 28:48You can't be a bit Dudley. Yeah.
- 28:50All right. Sort of a mediocre docking.
- 28:51Since it's an average is not Paul.
- 28:54It's not great. It's just in the middle.
- 28:57Dylan reads too hot for TV says I have no questions.
- 29:00This story is perfect. My modeling is correct.
- 29:03Yeah, we love Dylan. Rod, who asks as the comedy
- 29:08sound effect of the TARDIS breaking down in episode 2, is
- 29:10the only weak point we beg to differ.
- 29:13Yeah, we love it. What are they say?
- 29:16Was asking the same? It was Why have one don't like
- 29:18this story? Yeah.
- 29:20And yeah. Like this story.
- 29:22Yeah. They're all saying like, that's
- 29:24correct. Okay.
- 29:26Fine man. Wisdom is, you know, we get it
- 29:30with lots of stories, we're back in the days before the internet,
- 29:33where people could exchange their views.
- 29:35You'd be reading these tomes like the key to time and some of
- 29:40those a celebration and people will be giving their opinions on
- 29:44stories that they'd seen as a kid.
- 29:45We couldn't see. So kind of took it.
- 29:48Shredders, that's how it is. And I think that's the beauty of
- 29:52this show is that there's constant Rejuvenation through
- 29:56new generations, finding stories and getting their own, take out
- 30:00of it or I'll Generations as well.
- 30:03Soroka site me. There's a reason why my listener
- 30:07base is sort of the 30 to 50 Mark.
- 30:11Well, I'm making up part of that, so yeah, that's true.
- 30:13Okay, well, I'm going to go out with the question from James and
- 30:17thrums who asks, hordes of 91 is often praised for The story
- 30:21where Ramona gets to be. The doctor EG, having her own
- 30:24Sonic Screwdriver, is this Romana to strongest outing?
- 30:32I think she's pretty strong across the board.
- 30:34I don't, I mean, if you compare it to a lot of the companions,
- 30:40particularly some of the earlier ones, She's not, she's not like
- 30:45a screamer who just gets dropped in situations and and is needing
- 30:51to be rescued. She's quite proactive right the
- 30:53way through I think. Anyway, I think she's They've
- 30:58set her up much more as an equal to the doctor.
- 31:00So I don't think I find right across the board including Mary
- 31:04times as well. I think she's just really,
- 31:06really strong LOL Awards. Weakest story is the Armageddon
- 31:13Factor. We're sure laying on my back.
- 31:20I love the key to time but it is a pretty is a bit of a damp
- 31:23squib at the end, isn't it? He got to say, All right, I'll
- 31:26see. I did that.
- 31:27I did that with Simon Fraser and we really enjoyed it.
- 31:31We watched it together like the shadow.
- 31:33He's great sort of the Christmas and the layering of ideas that
- 31:38there are in it, things like it's over long and again, it
- 31:41gets a bit. That's, that's a problem with a
- 31:43lot of older who, you know, you could trim a couple of episodes
- 31:45off and make something really good, but because they trying to
- 31:49stretch the budget, they have to make it a bit longer.
- 31:52I thought knew who goes in the other direction.
- 31:54I'm like this. Just had another 15 minutes.
- 31:57You know? Yeah, it's things out a little
- 31:59bit. We're never satisfied.
- 32:01Always are not bloody miserable gets.
- 32:03We should just do it for what it is.
- 32:06Well, I had a marvelous time with one.
- 32:08Two, three, are you ready to watch?
- 32:10Episode 4 with me? Just watch season 17.
- 32:13Come to a rousing conclusion. Let's do it.
