- 2:27if you will, and it's it's got a lot of people taking notice
- 2:30of it. Commissioner Wheeler is going to join us to talk about that.
- 2:32Plus I got some other things. There's lots to get to in the news
- 2:35today. Of course, there's a deal reaching the House on the debt sailing.
- 2:38We're to talk about that. There's some governor justice news to get to,
- 2:42and a whole lot of stuff. So we're gonna get to on this
- 2:45Thursday morning. But before we do all that, I want to welcome to
- 2:46the show gentleman by the name of a chance Walker Chance Good morning, how
- 2:51are you, sir. I'm doing good, Dave, thank you for having
- 2:53me on. I really appreciate you taking the time. Now you are here
- 2:55to make a big announcement, and I want to say we're gonna get to
- 3:00know chance Walker here in a couple of moments. But I want to say
- 3:04thank you for for choosing to make this announcement on my show. Thanks a
- 3:08lot. So I'll let you do the honors. The announcement from chance Walker
- 3:14is so um, I will be running in the Republican primary in twenty twenty
- 3:20four in the District fifty two for the House of Delegates. All right,
- 3:23so you heard it here, folks. Here for I'll get it out.
- 3:28I'm the one that supposedly talks for a living. You heard it here first,
- 3:31folks, chance Walker is going to be running for a house in District
- 3:35fifty two. Talk about the district in a little bit, but give us
- 3:38your bio. Tell us who chance Walker is, so u you know,
- 3:42dave a little bit about me. M. I come from a middle class
- 3:44family. I'm a lifelong West Virginia resident. I've always lived here. My
- 3:52father was a over the road truck driver. My mother is still a caregiver
- 3:54of the elderly. I was pretty much grew up in the public school system
- 4:02and I was blessed enough to graduate from Marshall University. Go hurd, huh,
- 4:06go ahard. Anytime I have somebody out from Marshall, I have to
- 4:10say go hurdy, So go ahead. And I currently live in Marmett with
- 4:15my partner Rachel and our three sons. UM, which is great. Love
- 4:18the community, small town feel. I love everything about it. Um.
- 4:24So yeah, I've I've have been. Um, I've been persuaded by some
- 4:29people in my community to to run for House of Delegates and and here I
- 4:33am to get get my name out there and uh really put the best foot
- 4:36forward. So you got all this other stuff that you do in your life.
- 4:40Um, why why this? I know you said you were persuaded by
- 4:44some people, but you got to be the one to make that ultimate decision.
- 4:46Chance, Why why did you decide that this is the road you want
- 4:48to take to run for House. So I'm very passionate about making West Virginia
- 4:54a better place to live, work, and to raise a family. Um,
- 4:57that's my number one goal. Um. I look at my suns every
- 5:00day and they inspire me to want to make West Virginia a better place for
- 5:04them to grow up in and to inherit a better West Virginia than what we
- 5:08have today. So what do you see as the biggest needs of the district
- 5:13for fresh explain the district to us so that I think that'd be a good
- 5:15place, because I always like to have people do that because people say,
- 5:18well, what exactly is the district fifty two? To explain what the district
- 5:21is? So District fifty two is it starts in Kanal City Second Street in
- 5:27Kansas City, but it's held up in traffic thereat Okay, go ahead,
- 5:33UM. So you come down the Kannal River and you go both sides,
- 5:36so you go into bail Rand, Mormatt, Chesapeake, UM. You come
- 5:42down into Cedar Grove, Glasgow, um Pratt, and then you end in
- 5:46Montgomery. So my district is technically a two county districts is a part of
- 5:50Fayette County that is in my district because I have the whole town of Montgomery,
- 5:55UM, and then it goes down into the more rural part of southern
- 6:00in all County. UM. But yeah, it's a it's a very large
- 6:02district, I'll say that way. But it's mostly the Upper Canal Valley and
- 6:06then the southern part. So now, what do you see as the biggest
- 6:10needs of that district. The biggest needs that I see there is economic growth.
- 6:15Um. That is my number one priority is to bring jobs back to
- 6:18West Virginia and to keep them here and to grow our population. That's my
- 6:24number one priority. Yeah, So let's talk about campaign strategy. Well,
- 6:30mean, do you have a strategy? I know it's early, Yeah,
- 6:33we're about a year out, but yeah, my my campaign strategy is just
- 6:36grassroots meeting with the people, getting on you know, as many committees and
- 6:43going to as many council meetings as I can to see what the real needs
- 6:46of the county are. I've already met with some mayors, UM and I've
- 6:49gotten their opinions on what the deal is with the Upper Canal Valley and what
- 6:55their struggles are UM. And so I'll continue to do that until you know,
- 7:00the election. I'll continue to be a part of the community, try
- 7:03to make the community better and to really listen to what they have to say.
- 7:08You mentioned this a little bit too earlier about the area that you're Now,
- 7:12how long have you been there are you? I mean, are you
- 7:14native of that area of more matt Yeah, so I've been there I've lived
- 7:16there two years. Okay, all right, right, so so you've been
- 7:18there long enough, yes, okay, So what is it that you like
- 7:20about that area so much? You touched on a little bit, But what
- 7:23is it that you did the small town Field? I mean, that's just
- 7:26kind of what you like about that whole area. Yeah, small town Field.
- 7:28Don't have to worry about traffic all the time. I'm able to just
- 7:30come home and I'm set in fifteen twenty minutes of traffic, and you know,
- 7:34it's a good place for our kids to be able to go out on
- 7:36the street. I don't worry about them because you know, we don't have
- 7:39a ton of traffic in town. Um. I just love living in a
- 7:42small town. And that's what West Virginia is all about. We're made out
- 7:45of a bunch of small towns. Even even the big towns are small,
- 7:46even the big towns. Um, So why make the announcement so early.
- 7:53I mean, we're almost a year before the primary, and you're certainly not
- 7:57the only one. So I'm not picking on you because I mean you to
- 8:00be. It was always like the Labor Day, it was the big day
- 8:01nobody. But we're seeing more and more people locally, nationally, whatever are
- 8:07announcing early. Why did you choose to make the announcements so early? The
- 8:11way I see it, if you're going to run, run, go ahead
- 8:13and get out there, get your name out there, go ahead and let
- 8:16everybody know what you're about, and so that way they can communicate with me,
- 8:20and that way I can find out what the large problems are in my
- 8:24district. I'm talking with chance Walker, who is announcing on this show.
- 8:28Just announced he's gonna be running for a house in District fifty two five eighty
- 8:31Live is presented apart by Meek's Realty Group. Our area's most beautiful properties deserve
- 8:35the finest realtors Miekes Realty Group. Visit of Mindline Meeks dot us or called
- 8:39three or four four four zero one one zero one all right. So the
- 8:43position is currently held by Larry Rowe Lari Row. Okay, and so um,
- 8:48you'll you find yourself in the primary against Larry Row. There there are
- 8:52also maybe others you just don't know Larry. Larry Rowe is the Democrats.
- 8:56I want oh, okay, I'm sorry, blah blah blah, sorry,
- 8:58sorry, I forgot a brain locked there for from Larry Larry is the is
- 9:03the incomement? But he is Okay, yeah, you're right, Okay.
- 9:05Uh So, um, will it be will it be others in the primary?
- 9:09Yes? Um? As of right now, there's one other person who
- 9:13has filed their precncy. Okay, So so what is it that sets and
- 9:16I don't we don't necessarily talk about that person. But what is it that
- 9:20that makes you a better candidate? I think that for myself, I believe
- 9:26I'm more in touch, um with District fifty two, and I think,
- 9:30um, they deserve a common sense conservative choice on the ballot. UM for
- 9:37the twenty twenty four general election. Where can people learn uh more about your
- 9:41campaign? Um? So they can get on Facebook right now. So it's
- 9:46a chance walker for West Virginia. That's the page, UM. And then
- 9:48I have a website Walker for West Virginia dot com. UM. That's my
- 9:54website right now. You can volunteer on there. You can send me your
- 9:56contact information if you want to reach out. UM. If you go on
- 10:00to my Facebook page, my cell phone numbers on there, so you can
- 10:01text me and call me, reach out to me if you have any questions.
- 10:05Uh. Somebody actually had texted a question in here for you and aside
- 10:09a very very detailed question because I don't like to when somebody makes their radio
- 10:13debut, I don't like to hammer. There's time for that later. But
- 10:15somebody ask about tourism. Is this something? How do you feel about tourism?
- 10:18And specifically they ask about the expansion of the Halfild McCoy trail. I
- 10:22think the aprical valley talk about that. I think that's great for that end
- 10:24of the canal valley. I think it's awesome that they have plans to extend
- 10:30the half Field McCoy trails. They also have plans to put a large four
- 10:33by four trail on the other side, like a full full size that you
- 10:39can take you know, jeeps and automobiles. Okay, so it's great.
- 10:43Any kind of any kind of economic growth we can have in tourism, in
- 10:48manufacturing, anything like that in the Uprocanal Valley is a great, great thing
- 10:52for us. Are you ready for the fight that comes under the capital.
- 10:56And here's what I the reason I say that the Republicans are are firmly in
- 11:00charge. Um, that's not going to change. And even now we have
- 11:03more you know, we have Democrats that are switching to Republicans, you know,
- 11:07for one reason or another. But within the Republican Party there are divisions,
- 11:11just like there were within the Democratic Party for eighty three years. Are
- 11:15are you ready for I don't want to say the fight, that's kind of
- 11:18a strong word. Are you Are you ready for the negotiations that happen,
- 11:22that have to happen within the party, And you think that you'd be pretty
- 11:24good at compromise and working with the people that you may not necessarily your beliefs
- 11:28don't necessarily align with one absolutely. Um you know, I have fourteen years
- 11:33in sales in business background. Um So I do sales on the daily basis.
- 11:39I'm a residential sales consultant for taste value, heating and air conditioning.
- 11:43UM So, negotiating, talking, coming to a compromise, I can do
- 11:46that any day of the week, at any time. I think I'm very
- 11:50prepared for that. And you know, I'm ready for anything that they can
- 11:54throw at me at the House of Delegates up there, All right, well,
- 11:58good stuff, give us the elevator speak chance. Why should people to
- 12:01vote for you when the time comes next year? I think people should vote
- 12:05for me because I'm pro jobs, pro economic development, pro life, pro
- 12:09Second Amendment, and I will fight to ensure that the people of District fifty
- 12:13two have a common sense a conservative choice on the ballot. Chance Walker,
- 12:18who is announced on the show today he is gonna be running for House as
- 12:22a Republican in District fifty two next year. Chance. We wish you the
- 12:24best luck. We'll be talking to you plenty of times, I'm sure before
- 12:28the election next year. Thanks a lot man, No problem, Dave.
- 12:30I appreciate you having me on, and absolutely I'll be on a couple more

- 15:45him with a couple of moments and we're not got a couple of texts here.
- 15:46First Tech says chances primary opponent is a very wacky far right conspiracy theorist
- 15:54that stays on the radical fringes of politics. Chance is going to be a
- 15:58much more sensible and normal candidate. Well, I don't know who they're referring
- 16:00to there, but whoever that person is is welcome to come on this show
- 16:06as well. All types are welcome here. Tech says, what incumbent Democrat
- 16:11will chance Walker be running against the general election? That would be Larry row
- 16:15If, if, and when that happens, that's that's the way that we'll
- 16:18work out. Tech says, Dave, You're gonna be hearing a whole lot
- 16:22about Pride Month in the month of June. I would prefer to say that
- 16:26June is life month. Keep that in mind, all right, duly noted
- 16:30Cana kind of Commissioner Lance Wheelers with US commissioner, good morning, how are
- 16:33you? Good morning, Dave, how are you doing? I am doing
- 16:37fine. Thanks for being here. Big doings out at Coonskin Talk about him,
- 16:42Well, I'll tell you this project has been years in the making.
- 16:47It's actually when I came in in twenty twenty one, as can kind of
- 16:49commissioner, it was one of the very first projects I started working on,
- 16:53and as everybody knows, Coonskin had an eighteen whole course. It was beautiful.
- 16:59Unfortunately, in June twenty sixteen the floods hit. It took out the
- 17:03back nine and we knew we had to do something. With all of the
- 17:07tourism and economic development we're seeing here in the Canal Valley, the Cana County
- 17:11Commission knew we had to do something, so we got down with the best
- 17:15designers and we created the nine whole part three golf course we called the Short
- 17:21Course at Coonskin and Dave. It's absolutely beautiful. I don't know if you've
- 17:26been out there yet, but the grass is wonderful, the greens are complex.
- 17:30I mean, we've heard nothing but great things about this new golf course.
- 17:34Well, you know, I have not been out there yet, but
- 17:37I am looking forward to visiting. And let's go back in time. Just
- 17:41a bid and you could take us through it. If I have something mixed
- 17:42up here, you can correct me. And again we're talking with Knack County
- 17:45Commissioner Lands Wheeler. June or twenty sixteen, there was a fire that destroyed
- 17:49parts of the irrigation system for the former eighteen whole course there. Fast forward
- 17:55to April this last year, the Cana County Commission approves one point four million
- 17:59dollars for a course redesign using money from the American Rescue Plan under the heading
- 18:06of economic development. Is that the way this whole thing played out. Yeah,
- 18:10it wasn't a fire. It was a flood. You know, I
- 18:12knew about the I knew about the flood, but I was under the impress
- 18:15And it was kind of funny because when I was doing the research on this,
- 18:18I know everybody knows about the flood of twenty sixteen, but I was
- 18:21thinking, for some reason that there was also a fire. I guess I
- 18:23just invented something out of the air that there was also another disaster. But
- 18:27it was just a flood, not a fire. Look, there was multiple
- 18:30disasters, and you know, we wanted to make sure that we could try
- 18:34to bring that back nine in but you know, FEMA came in, they
- 18:37change the lines on us. They're still changing the lines on us. We
- 18:40knew we had to do something, so let's go all out on something that
- 18:44state of the art. It's a non whole part three course. It's very
- 18:48complex for pro and amateur players. But I'm also told that because of how
- 18:53short it is, it's something that anybody can play. Actually, Dave,
- 18:57we just had our first hole in one already, our first hole in one?
- 19:03Was it? You? Was it? You, Commissioner. It will
- 19:06never be me, And I'm not a golfer, okay, but you know
- 19:07who it was? Who was it was eleven year old? An eleven year
- 19:11old? Well, we just had it. We just had the West Virginia
- 19:15Amateur I think was just yesterday. And I think the person that won that
- 19:18was was in high school like last year. So you know, it happens
- 19:21again. The youth are taken over. Man. Well, and it just
- 19:25shows how great this project is because it's not just for tourism, right,
- 19:30Dave. This is something for the locals. This is something for the family.
- 19:33You know, if you're a golfer and you want to bring your child
- 19:36out and try to make them experience this play and not be out for four
- 19:38hours or eighteen holes and three hundred and seventy five yard drives, they can
- 19:42play, you can enjoy it because of how complex it is. Uh,
- 19:47you know, there's there's a double green on this course. It's so difficult
- 19:51but yet so easy. And that's what makes this project perfect, not just
- 19:56for our locals here, but for tourism as well, and the was one
- 20:00published report. I read a commissioner that someone with the US Golf Association that's
- 20:06you know, that's pretty big stuff there. The USGA called this course a
- 20:10field of dreams. I was right there next to him on opening day when
- 20:14he said it. I actually asked him to can I quote you on that?
- 20:18And we all laugh, but he said he also mentioned this might be
- 20:22one of, if not the best part three golf course in the nation.
- 20:27And it's right here in the Knaal Valley, right here, right outside Charleston,
- 20:33right into Canaal County Parks. And you know, again, this would
- 20:36not been doable if it wasn't for the vision of the board, our Canall
- 20:40County Parks and Wright Board, our General Alan Tackett, one of our board
- 20:45members, Dave Pope, Jeff Hutchinson, our director, and then also Commissioner
- 20:48Carper and Selango for seeing this vision and knowing that this was the perfect thing
- 20:53to do. I think that it's going to be excellent. I'm already told
- 20:57that we've already had over three one hundred and fifty rounds played and we just
- 21:02opened on May twenty six. I've heard nothing but good things. And if
- 21:06you're a golfer or if you want to learn how to golf, come on
- 21:08out the coon skin at our short course. We'll get you taken care of.
- 21:11It's twenty dollars for the nine holes, and then if you want to
- 21:15do additional nine holes, it's only an extra ten bucks. Good stunt,
- 21:18sheep that it's enjoyable and you can bring the whole family out. Five eighty

- 21:33or four three nine seven fifty five fifty three three or four three ninety seven
- 21:37fifty five fifty three for your Edward Jones Financial Advisor, Travis Willard, Edward
- 21:41Jones member SIPC LANs. Let's talk about the economic impact of this, and
- 21:45you kind of touched on it briefly there, But what kind I know?
- 21:48I know that to you folks in the commission and the parks, you know
- 21:52it's all you want to provide quality outdoor entertainment for the residents of the valley
- 21:57and for tourists coming in as well. What's the economic impact look like in
- 22:02this thing? Well, anytime I talk to anyone about, you know,
- 22:04economic impact, the thing I always like to do. The analogy is it's
- 22:07like baking a cake. You know, you have your flour, you have
- 22:11your eggs, you have your sugar. But Dave, you wouldn't take a
- 22:15spoonful of flour and just shoving your mouth right. It wouldn't takets well.
- 22:18But if you put all those ingredients together, you get this delicious cake.
- 22:22And what I think is this golf course is one of those ingredients. You
- 22:26know, we have the Shawnee Sports Complex, which shout out to Commissioner's Lango
- 22:30that has been absolutely excellent for economic development and the locals. We're looking at
- 22:36the Capital Sports Complex, We're looking at the valley Plan for economic development out
- 22:40in eastern Kanau County. You know, when you have a project like this
- 22:44that fits into that puzzle, you're not only going to get the locals to
- 22:47be able to enjoy it, You're going to get people tourism coming in.
- 22:51You know, they come in for the civic center to call sum and they
- 22:53want to go and play around a golfer at Shawnee and go play around a
- 22:56golf They can do that. But you also look at the you know,
- 23:00bringing people back home right there. That's what we keep talking about. We
- 23:04want to bring people back home. We want to bring people out of state
- 23:07to move to Canall County because we know this is the best place to live
- 23:11and having those amenities for them when they come and they start looking at Arleston
- 23:15and Canall County and knowing that all these things exist around them that they can
- 23:19go enjoy in their luxury time. That just keeps adding on and on.
- 23:25And I have to say, Kenall County in West Virginia, we're on a
- 23:27roll right now. I think we're seeing a lot of economic development and I
- 23:32think projects like this, if we can continue these, is really going to
- 23:34start pushing us up higher and higher every day. Well, you know,
- 23:37it's interesting that you bring that up. And again we're talking to Canack County
- 23:41Comission as we have are. I was having a phone call last night with
- 23:44a good friend of mine who's the mayor and I know you knowing very well,
- 23:45the mayor Barbersville, Chris Tatum and I we're having a discussion last night,
- 23:51and of course you knew there was a big announcement made this week with
- 23:53Commissioner Selango and with Mayor Tatum and others about this huge soccer tournament that's coming
- 24:00in. And I say this all the time, Lands when I have folks
- 24:03like you and Commissier Slango and others on the show, people don't realize how
- 24:07much money is rolling through the Canall Valley right now and all of us for
- 24:11Junia for that matter. And I'm talking about with this outdoor sports thing.
- 24:15You know, whether it's the youth sports and the proposed Capital Sports Complex,
- 24:18or what's going on at Shawnee or what's going on. You know what Chris
- 24:22is doing down in Barbersville right now. It's amazing. It is truly amazing,
- 24:26Lands Well. And it's also that partnership, right Dave, you we
- 24:30talked about, you talk about Barbersville partnering with the Shawnee Sports conflict so we
- 24:34can bring this massive tournament here, not just the Kanaal County, but you
- 24:38know, this entire region. We're starting to see these partnerships with the mayors.
- 24:42You know, when I became County commissioner, the first thing I did
- 24:45was I want to talk to every one of the mayors. I want to
- 24:47talk to the municipalities. We need to communicate with government, you know,
- 24:51the state, federal government, the local government. We need to start communicating
- 24:56instead of starting spending all of our money in different areas. And you know,
- 25:00we're we're putting our money in this project while they're putting this money in
- 25:03this project. You know, we need to work together. We're starting to
- 25:06see that that is now collaborating together and it's really showing those benefits, you
- 25:11know. And day one thing I noticed. I'm a lifelong West Virginian.
- 25:15I was born and raised in Saint Auban, and I'm starting to see a
- 25:18lot of more outside state tags these days. And I like it. And
- 25:23I don't like the traffic, but I like seeing these out of state tags
- 25:27coming into Knall County because I know they're spending their money at hotels, local
- 25:32businesses, shops, and that is just continuing to drive the economy. It's
- 25:37creating more jobs, it's creating more opportunity, and it's not something that we
- 25:41need to turn our heads at what's on the horizon for some other things.
- 25:45In Snow County, we kind of touched on it with with the you know,
- 25:48the soccer tournament, and we know we got Forgatta coming up and all
- 25:52these other things. But what's what do you have your eye on over the
- 25:55next maybe over the summer months or maybe for the rest of the year.
- 26:00I have and the cannot kind of commission. We have our eyes on some
- 26:03pretty big projects. You know, we're too early in right now to announce,
- 26:07but I promise you, Dave, once we're ready announced, I'll come
- 26:10right back on the show and you'll be the first one to hear about it
- 26:12with your viewers. You know, we have a lot of different things that
- 26:17we're looking at, but are the formula that we're looking at as well?
- 26:21Is not just something that's for tourism, right Dave. We want something that
- 26:25is for the locals as well, something that local people can enjoy that also
- 26:30brings in that economic development with tourism. And you know I said this at
- 26:33the golf course announcement. When you can start checking off those two boxes on
- 26:37a project, you know you're onto something. And I think if we can
- 26:41continue down that avenue and that route, making sure we're using taxpayer dollars because
- 26:45if we as to remember This is other people's money for locals while also benefiting
- 26:51businesses. Man, that is that's a cake that I can't wait to get
- 26:55a bite of. We're talking with that Cannock County Commissioner Lance Wheeler, twenty
- 26:59six minutes away from ten finally, sir, and you know, I gotta
- 27:03at least touch on this just for a moment. I don't want to get
- 27:06into allegations or anything like that, but do we have any update on the
- 27:07condition of Commissioner Kent Carper. Have you spoken to him or his family or
- 27:11anything on his health condition? No, I have not spoke. I'm giving
- 27:15the privacy to Commissioner Carper and his family, I think, as everyone else
- 27:18should right now. Yeah, I hear he is still recovering. I do
- 27:22hear he's still in the hospital, and obviously the can All County Commission,
- 27:26with the Commissioner Selango myself, you know, we wish him a speedy recovery
- 27:29and hope that he can get back on his speed as soon as fall.
- 27:33Mister Anna So Wheeler, it's always a pleasure to have you on the show,
- 27:34sir. We'll have you on again soon. Thanks a lot. They've
- 27:37always a pleasure of being on here and thanks for having me. All right,
- 27:41it's twenty five minutes away from ten. Five eighty Live brought to a

- 28:08That was That was my fault that I almost read the wrong special Month of
- 28:12June is here, speaking of which I had the text earlier about Pride Month.
- 28:17Tex says, the only reason you'll hear more of Pride Month is because
- 28:21conservative media outlets had told their viewers to be outraged about consenting adults enjoy freedom
- 28:26enjoying freedom according to a texture, Texter says as a conservative. I'm often
- 28:33skeptical of government spending because government is wonderful at wasting money. But I will
- 28:37say investing in parks, recreation and sports facilities are an absolutely positive, an
- 28:42appropriate use of taxpayer funding. According to a texture, somebody sent me a
- 28:48link to a story here about the special prosecutor now being requested in the Kent
- 28:52Carper matter. Yes, we're aware of it. We've reported it. I
- 28:55mentioned on the show a couple of days ago. I do appreciate the person
- 28:59from bringing that to my attention. But again, it's been reported that a
- 29:03special prosecutor in the Kent Carper situation is being requested at this time as he
- 29:07continues his recovery. Texture says, there has to be away to put the
- 29:12Coonskin entrance back off the Greenbrier. Again, it's ridiculous, that's off Greenbrier.
- 29:18Should say off the Greenbriar, off Greenbriar. It is ridiculous as a
- 29:22texture to have to go all the way out of the way to the Mink
- 29:23Shoal's exit to get to the park. Last time I was there, there
- 29:27was no one anywhere. That's sad. According to a texture, texture says,
- 29:33it's a great course, but they have to maintain it. Indeed,
- 29:36all right, we're gonna take a break. We've got plenty more to get
- 29:38to it. Just me and you from this point on, no more guests.
- 29:41But I got a lot of things in the news. I want to
- 29:42talk about this debt ceiling thing, the governor coming under fire from the Feds.
- 29:48We're going to talk about that, and also the governor is going to
- 29:51be sending some guardsmen down to the southern border. Plus, last night,
- 29:56Dave Chappelle was in concert at the municipal audatoryment. Charleston did not attend the
- 30:00show. I talked to a couple of people that did, and there was
- 30:03something really interesting that happened. And of course Chapelle, you know, is
- 30:07a comedic genius in my opinion, I did not attend the concert, and
- 30:11I'll tell you why I didn't come up a little bit later on. Nothing
- 30:14personal, but I'm cheap. That's why I didn't go to the concert.
- 30:17But there was something. There was a rule that was released yesterday before the
- 30:22concert about something. They did not allow cell phones at the concert last night.
- 30:26I want to touch on that and more when we come back from the

- 35:55has announced a filing over unpaid penalties by more than a dozen companies operated by
- 36:01Governor Justice and his family. The filing does not name Jim Justice per se,
- 36:08but it does name his son Jay, and thirteen cold companies under the
- 36:13family's ownership. Now you'll recall that the governor the governor said that when he
- 36:21became governor that he would put those in a blind trust to be operated by
- 36:24his family. The federal court filing is trying to collect unpaid civil penalties on
- 36:31behalf of several federal governmental agencies. Now, again, it's kind of a
- 36:36complicated story. Read the entire story of the website wv Metronews dot com.
- 36:39Governor Justice yesterday during his briefing said very much paraphrasing here, that it's all
- 36:45coming because of his announced run for US Senate and this is just a reaction
- 36:52to that. And I reference this on the show yesterday. If you saw
- 36:55the poll that was commissioned by the folks at East Carolin University. In a
- 37:00head to head matchup that's presuming that Governor Justice gets through the primary against Alex
- 37:05Mooney and Chris Rose, it's not even close. I mean a matchup ahead
- 37:10to add matchup between Governor Justice and Senator Mansion for that seat. I mean
- 37:15as of right now and things. Things certainly can change, but it wouldn't
- 37:20even be close. In that matchup, Governor Justice would win hands down.
- 37:23But we shall see. Tex says do they have glocks? Well, I'll
- 37:30find out for sure. I'm sure I can't imagine a firearm that Valley Outdoors

- 38:01When the meantime, the governor has announced he is deploying fifty West Virginia
- 38:07National Guard soldiers and airmen to the southern border. The governor says that Governor
- 38:12Greg Abbott of Texas had asked several governors for help. In his briefing yesterday,
- 38:19Governor Justice referred to the illegals coming over and the flood of fentnyl coming
- 38:23over two. He also said this deployment will not impact the Guard members who
- 38:30are helping with staffed issues. With the crisis that we have it, It's

- 38:54Interesting that West Virginia's Republicans in Congress split on the deal, with Carol Miller
- 39:01voting yes and Alex Mooney voting no. Now, the final vote was three
- 39:07fourteen to one, seventeen seventy one Republicans and forty six Democrats voting against the
- 39:12bill. And again, as I mentioned on the show yesterday or the day
- 39:15before, it's kind of an interesting dynamic there between the Republicans that are that
- 39:22we're against the bill, that voted against it, and the Democrats that did
- 39:24and they did so for primarily the same reasons is that they felt it didn't
- 39:30go far enough. You know, Carol Miller was on Hoppy and she talked
- 39:34about, you know, gets it, gets the okay the for the Keystone
- 39:37pipeline, and that's basically why she did it. She was a yes and
- 39:45Congressman Alex Mooney was a no. The bill will now go to the Senate.
- 39:49Programming note, Senator shelleymore Capitau will weigh in on her opinion of the
- 39:54bill that she and Senator Mansion will next be voting on. She'll be on
- 39:59with Hoppy the top of the show this morning. I will say this that
- 40:02in the past, both she and Senator Mansion has said they will support the
- 40:07bill, and I really don't know why that would change I honestly. I
- 40:10mean, she's she's gonna be a yes vote. Mansion is going to be
- 40:14a yes vote. So that's kind of where we are there. Hey,

- 44:29They got a big event going on there Monday night. Evan's going to
- 44:30stop by the studio to talk about that with McKenzie and myself coming up tomorrow.
- 44:37Well, so comedian Dave Chappelle was in town last night. Now,
- 44:44this was announced last week suddenly, and I wasn't here, as you know,
- 44:47I was on vacation last week. I did, however, watch with
- 44:51interest the feeding Frenzy over those tickets. I mean it was just kind of
- 44:57a pop up show. And I mean when it came out, I mean
- 45:00there were people that were just said, is this a joke that Dave Chappelle,
- 45:05you know, the single biggest comedian straight comedian, and what I mean
- 45:08by straight comedians. H doesn't do a lot of acting. I mean he
- 45:12does some, but I mean he's you know, he's not a Kevin Hard
- 45:15type. It does a lot of movies. He pretty much, at least
- 45:16recently the last couple of years, is sticking to stand up. Um,
- 45:21they thought, I mean, is it is he really coming here? Well,
- 45:23yeah, he did it. I mean it's audatorium last night. And
- 45:28as I said, you know, the tickets just were I don't want to
- 45:30say outrageous. I mean, nobody forces you to go if you don't want
- 45:35to go, you don't have to go. If it's it's if it's out
- 45:36of your price range, or you choose not to go. That's me,
- 45:39I said, as much as as the biggest Chappelle fan as I am.
- 45:45I ain't paying that kind of money to see anyone or anything. Just not
- 45:49me. Don't hate on people to do. That's you. But that's just
- 45:53not my thing. But Tod Sharone, I'm I'm kind of cheap that way.
- 45:58Um. What I did find interest, though, is that there was
- 46:01a policy put out there yesterday round this time yesterday. I guess the folks
- 46:07with the Colosseum and Convention Center who run things at the Municipal Uditorium as well,
- 46:13issued a statement, among other things, that there would be no cell
- 46:16phones allowed at the performance. And I love it. I love it,
- 46:27and I'm interested to know how you feel about it. You can text me
- 46:30Fruit Pharmacy text three or four nine three five zero zero if you want to
- 46:34weigh in audit. I talked to a friend of mine before the show who
- 46:37I knew was going to the show. So about thirty months before my show,
- 46:40I called him up and I said, Hey, were there any problems
- 46:45with cell phones not being allowed there last night, and he said, no
- 46:52one seemed to be upset that they had to give up their phones or just
- 46:58not come in. And this is kind of the thing that's going on now.
- 47:01And I guess the way it works is and again I wasn't there last
- 47:05time, but I guess the way it works is they give you a bag
- 47:07of some sorts that you check it in and it goes in a sealed bag
- 47:13somewhere and you can go get it whenever you want, when you leave or
- 47:15if something happens, but just can't bring it in to the show. And
- 47:19absolutely, when I read this, I thought, this is the greatest thing
- 47:23ever in my opinion, not being able to take phones into shows like this.
- 47:27And frankly, I wish cell phones were banned in a lot more places.
- 47:31My wife and I attended to show a couple of years ago. It's
- 47:34Clay Center, And I'll be honest with you, it's not really the fault
- 47:37of the Clay Center, folks, it just is where we are as a
- 47:39society. It was hard for us to enjoy it as a musical concert,
- 47:43and it was hard for us to enjoy the show because of everybody taking selfies
- 47:49in front of the stage. And that's the era that we live in now,
- 47:53folks. It's not about living in a moment. It's about documenting and
- 47:58posting for likes the moment. Now. In this particular instance that I'm talking
- 48:02about, it wasn't even about the singer on stage as much as it was
- 48:07people taking selfies making sure everyone else knew that they were at the show,
- 48:15if that makes any sense. So I say bravo to the Chappelle folks,
- 48:20and I mean this wudatorium for carrying out the talents. Wishes and another friend
- 48:24of mine have posted on Facebook about seeing people escorted out of a no phone
- 48:29concert in Nashville. Again, I love it and taking this one step further,
- 48:37and I couldn't believe that this was a thing, But I was reading
- 48:38an article the other day about the growing problem of people going into weddings and
- 48:45taking their own pictures. You know, the bride and groom pay X amount
- 48:50of dollars for a photographer, but no, you're gonna upstage everyone there by
- 48:52taking your own pictures and videos and then posting. In my line, you
- 48:57know, it's not about you on that day, It's about the bride and
- 49:00groom and if they're fine with it, then okay, then okay. And
- 49:06some I've seen wedding announcement people said, you know, feel free to take
- 49:08pictures. That's fine, But I'd be a little bit upset if I paid
- 49:14a lot of money for a photographer and I get home and ten minutes later,
- 49:19you know, you put your own pictures up. I just think the
- 49:22world will be a whole lot better off if if we would leave the phones
- 49:25at home. Every now and then text says how much were the tickets?
- 49:29Um, I've seen they were. They were going for two fifty three hundred
- 49:32initially, and then I saw them going online for much more than that after
- 49:37the fact. Uh Texas, I remember printed tickets with no cameras printed on
- 49:43them. Yeah, just hollywoo. Jeff Petty's my producer today. And Jeff
- 49:47is a younger guy. And I say younger than me because everybody is younger
- 49:52than me. Um, So how do you feel about this? I'm in
- 49:59a way it is a good thing. The one problem, because I've been
- 50:02sitting back here thinking about it for the past twenty or so minutes, the
- 50:07one problem I could see with it, And I think you even addressed it
- 50:09that they could walk out and go check their phones. Is if you know
- 50:12they have like somebody that's sick, or kids or something like that. You
- 50:15know, maybe an intermission you can walk out, check your phone, make
- 50:17sure everything's fine, go back in. And another thing I'd like to add
- 50:22on to with you saying, people, you know, trying to document the
- 50:25moment, and people don't know how to live in the moment anymore. Like
- 50:30I was born in ninety five and I consider myself a terrible millennial because I
- 50:35don't take that many pictures when I go to a concert or or this or
- 50:37that. I may take a couple and post it, but I'm not going
- 50:40to sit there and take a picture of an entire album. That's a good
- 50:46point. I got a couple of texts here. Text says tickets were one
- 50:49thirty, ninety and seventy at the box office. Okay, but they were
- 50:52going for online a whole lot more than that at the box office the day
- 50:54they would un sale. Yes they were, but I'm talking because most people
- 50:58probably didn't get them, or they tried to get him. And I mean
- 51:00it was just social media. Man was just was just flooded with this with
- 51:04the people trying and again more you know, I'm not I don't. If
- 51:08that's what you want to spend your money on them, fine, and I
- 51:09love Dave Chappelle. Probably not going to do that. That just me though,
- 51:14Texas, dear day. The wife and I just left hours talking about
- 51:16their phone in the car for an hour and a half, no issues.
- 51:19But to tell the truth, you're too cheap and it was past your bedtime.
- 51:22Both are true, both are one percent true. And another text,
- 51:29somebody sent me a picture of their ticket and said that people knew when they
- 51:32bought their tickets that there were no phones. It stated it right on the
- 51:35ticket master website. Okay, so if that's the case, then people probably
- 51:38should look at your tickets easier the people that were complaining online about it.
- 51:43Possibly, but nonetheless, I just I'm a person that thinks that we would
- 51:47be a whole lot better off if we said goodbye to the phones for um
- 51:52for extended amounts of time. Text says my ex wife paid four hundred dollars
- 51:57for a ticket. Well know that alimony was put to good news. All
- 52:01Right, we gotta go, Thank you so much, Shytywoo Jef Petty my
- 52:05producer, Jeff, Thank you so much. Thanks to Commissioner Lance Wheeler for
- 52:08being on the show today and for our newest candidate, chance Walker, who
- 52:13announced he was running for Republican House in District fifty two for next year.
- 52:17Coming up as say Send tomorrow McKenzie Spencer, We'll a festival, will be
- 52:22my guest host tomorrow, Hope in the News. Coming up, Shelby Moore
- 52:23Capito first guest on the show. I will see you tomorrow till then,
- 52:27have fun. I love somebody finding hs A six point five FM Charleston and
