Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to May the Review be with you
- 0:03Speaker 1: with Nick and Joe. I'm Joe.
- 0:05Speaker 2: And I'm Nick and today we are talking about Lanterns
- 0:08Speaker 2: episodes 5 and 6.
- 0:11Speaker 3: This show pulled a fast one on us. It's like
- 0:13Speaker 3: two shows in these eight episodes.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Episode 5 of Lanterns called Lights Out was essentially felt
- 0:20Speaker 2: like a season finale based on like what went down.
- 0:24Speaker 1: You know you you texted me that like right after
- 0:26Speaker 1: the the episode had ended and it's so funny because
- 0:28Speaker 1: like i didn't think of it in that way but
- 0:31Speaker 1: after after you put it that way for me i
- 0:34Speaker 1: i can't really think of another way like if the
- 0:37Speaker 1: season had ended there like i honestly would have been satisfied.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Right it felt like it really felt like a season
- 0:42Speaker 2: ender and it's like a perfect cliffhanger for like oh
- 0:45Speaker 2: my gosh what's gonna happen next right but the cool
- 0:47Speaker 2: part is we have three three more episodes right and
- 0:50Speaker 2: six aired recently. We're going to talk about that in
- 0:52Speaker 2: a minute, but episode five was just like insane. Like we,
- 0:55Speaker 2: we got like a full kind of full picture and
- 1:00Speaker 2: resolution essentially to the Manhunter Manhunter part of the saga,
- 1:03Speaker 2: or at.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Least it feels like we've got like a full resolution there, right?
- 1:06Speaker 2: Obviously there's some unanswered questions, but.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Yeah, Is it fully answered? I'm not so sure about that, Nick.
- 1:14Speaker 1: I'm not so sure, Nicky P.
- 1:15Speaker 2: There's questions we have. Episode 6, the Manhunter's now dead, right?
- 1:20Speaker 3: Zoe's gone.
- 1:21Speaker 2: At least we think she is. I mean, I'm assuming
- 1:23Speaker 2: she is. Maybe you think differently, but it seemed pretty clear.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I think Zoe's dead, for the record.
- 1:30Speaker 2: What do you think about Episode 5? What questions do
- 1:32Speaker 2: you still have? What do you want to talk about?
- 1:35Speaker 2: What's bothering you?
- 1:38Speaker 1: So episode five, I think was, I mean, I think
- 1:41Speaker 1: pretty much every episode overall has been very good television. Um,
- 1:44Speaker 1: you know, I've got like nitpicks here and there, but yeah, five,
- 1:48Speaker 1: like I said, if the finale, if that truly was
- 1:50Speaker 1: a finale, it would have been pretty, pretty good cliffhanger, uh,
- 1:54Speaker 1: up until the next season. Right. Thank God the next
- 1:56Speaker 1: season started the very next week. Right. But yeah, I mean,
- 2:00Speaker 1: as far as what we saw, I mean, in episode four, uh, we,
- 2:03Speaker 1: we witnessed, uh, the basically the divorce, uh, between, uh,
- 2:07Speaker 1: Hal and John and we get to see the ramifications
- 2:09Speaker 1: of that in episode five lights out as you know
- 2:12Speaker 1: we go to war against the as Hal goes to
- 2:15Speaker 1: war against the Manhunter Anton goes to war against the
- 2:17Speaker 1: Manhunter and John goes to war against Hal it is
- 2:21Speaker 1: is just absolute pandemonium and chaos feel very like off
- 2:25Speaker 1: balance the entire time John gets burned alive at one
- 2:28Speaker 1: point and we get to see that relationship with the
- 2:31Speaker 1: Manhunter or the relationship that Zoe had cultivated with John
- 2:35Speaker 1: and kind of come into fruition in a very similar
- 2:38Speaker 1: way that the episode kicks off right with carrie we
- 2:40Speaker 1: find out that manhunter zoe has been really placing people
- 2:44Speaker 1: in her pocket she's been giving them these life-changing favors
- 2:48Speaker 1: right uh in exchange for when someone comes a knocking
- 2:52Speaker 1: they will answer the call right i there are parts
- 2:56Speaker 1: of zoe's character that i think are a little confusing
- 2:58Speaker 1: for me personally nick but overall i think that this
- 3:01Speaker 1: was a really compelling plot what about you Yeah, very.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Compelling, especially like when Anton and his crew come to town, right?
- 3:11Speaker 2: It's so funny that like Hal is trying to play
- 3:13Speaker 2: a smokescreen game and like trick them into who they're
- 3:17Speaker 2: supposed to go fight because they both kind of want
- 3:21Speaker 2: the same thing, right?
- 3:21Speaker 3: They want the Manhunter, but Hal seems to want to
- 3:24Speaker 3: keep her alive.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Yeah, he wants to personally deliver. They all want the
- 3:28Speaker 1: Manhunter for like different reasons. He wants to personally deliver
- 3:31Speaker 1: her to the Guardians to kind of regain favor. So
- 3:34Speaker 1: hopefully that they don't replace him, right? Right.
- 3:37Speaker 2: And so we've got this like weird thing where they
- 3:39Speaker 2: both want the same thing in their own way. But
- 3:43Speaker 2: in this, like Anton and his crew, they're willing to
- 3:47Speaker 2: die to get this done. And Zoe's crew, if you will,
- 3:53Speaker 2: which is the town of Rushville, are willing to die
- 3:56Speaker 2: for her to do whatever they need to do, right?
- 4:00Speaker 2: So you've got like both of these people who are
- 4:01Speaker 2: going after each other, whose crew is like ready to
- 4:04Speaker 2: just like and their lives if they need to, for
- 4:06Speaker 2: whatever reason.
- 4:06Speaker 3: And the aliens quite literally explode.
- 4:09Speaker 1: This is crazy.
- 4:10Speaker 2: So you've got this, this just cool, you know, side-by-side
- 4:13Speaker 2: comparison of these two, these two leaders, like with their
- 4:16Speaker 2: people and what they're, they're going after. But the thing
- 4:19Speaker 2: that like, I still have questions on is the Anton-Zoa relationship.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Cause you kind of find out that the Manhunter has
- 4:26Speaker 2: always been a woman, right? It's not just like the
- 4:28Speaker 2: form that she's taken this time.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Yeah. Like it can, but like, yeah, it's an, It
- 4:33Speaker 1: seemed like I don't know if it usually is, but
- 4:35Speaker 1: at least in his familiarity, it was a female last time,
- 4:39Speaker 1: like with him. Right. Right.
- 4:41Speaker 2: But like they have kids together. Like there's this whole
- 4:46Speaker 2: that that seemed very interesting. And that's not resolved at all. Like,
- 4:49Speaker 2: I don't I don't think we got more info there.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And that's, you know, about what happens there. So it's
- 4:56Speaker 2: very just a very crazy like there.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought that was honestly a little confusing too,
- 5:04Speaker 1: as far as what were Anton's motivations, right? I mean,
- 5:08Speaker 1: you know, they talked about the Manhunter being a war
- 5:10Speaker 1: criminal and like they were trying to prevent war from happening.
- 5:13Speaker 1: And he showed John in, I think, episode two, the
- 5:16Speaker 1: atrocities that the Manhunter or Manhunters had created, right? So like,
- 5:23Speaker 1: it seemed like he wanted the Manhunter dead, but then
- 5:25Speaker 1: also apparently like he was in love with the Manhunter
- 5:29Speaker 1: a little bit some complexities going on there but I
- 5:33Speaker 1: mean ultimately I guess that's the same path that John
- 5:35Speaker 1: finds himself in as well right I mean as he
- 5:38Speaker 1: shoots her at the end of the episode he is
- 5:41Speaker 1: he's crying as he does it he doesn't want to
- 5:42Speaker 1: do it right which as a Marine I don't think
- 5:45Speaker 1: he has a problem ultimately taking someone's life but this
- 5:48Speaker 1: particular person he formed an attachment with maybe even sensed
- 5:53Speaker 1: a little bit of a life debt after Hal had
- 5:56Speaker 1: left John for dead Yeah.
- 5:58Speaker 2: That was that was that was a crazy scene. Basically,
- 6:02Speaker 2: John getting a second chance at life and she's like
- 6:04Speaker 2: saving his life. And you get to see how she works, too,
- 6:06Speaker 2: with like how she gets everyone to do her these favors.
- 6:08Speaker 2: But John, you can't just you can't just own him.
- 6:12Speaker 2: I think it's very that's the proof here, right? Like
- 6:14Speaker 2: he's going to make his own decisions regardless of if
- 6:16Speaker 2: he owes you or doesn't owe you.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Right. He's got he's got strong willpower. You know, it's
- 6:20Speaker 1: a good qualification as a Green Lantern.
- 6:22Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. And so.
- 6:24Speaker 2: You know, that's, that was really cool to see his
- 6:26Speaker 2: trajectory in that episode. And really towards the end too,
- 6:29Speaker 2: when you think that like John and Hal are just
- 6:32Speaker 2: going to go at it and John's just going to
- 6:33Speaker 2: kill Hal. And then all of a sudden he leaves
- 6:35Speaker 2: in there as bait, right?
- 6:37Speaker 3: For, for Zoe. And Hal like knew it, right?
- 6:41Speaker 2: Like, and it, it almost seemed like it's like, did
- 6:43Speaker 2: they plan that from the beginning? But it, it, it
- 6:45Speaker 2: wasn't like they've actually, they've like worked together. So they
- 6:49Speaker 2: worked together long enough and know how each other operates.
- 6:51Speaker 2: I think Hal like figured out that, The reason he's
- 6:55Speaker 2: still alive.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Is because John... It was his gut feeling.
- 6:58Speaker 3: Right, his gut feeling.
- 6:58Speaker 2: He's like, John's using me as bait right now. And
- 7:01Speaker 2: he just knew it. And so that was a really
- 7:03Speaker 2: cool scene. And obviously what follows, which if you want
- 7:05Speaker 2: to get into that about John.
- 7:08Speaker 1: I do in a second. I just want to get
- 7:12Speaker 1: into real quick what is my ultimate nitpick with this show.
- 7:15Speaker 1: It feels like not enough time goes by in certain instances.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Or maybe sometimes things happen too quickly. john and hal
- 7:24Speaker 1: have their epic fight in in the motel right as
- 7:28Speaker 1: the manhunter tries to shoot them hal protects them with
- 7:31Speaker 1: the ring right it explodes and then we see john
- 7:34Speaker 1: run away in the rubble i counted this and it's
- 7:37Speaker 1: exactly 21 seconds later that zo walks in now watching
- 7:41Speaker 1: it a second time i am forced to believe that
- 7:44Speaker 1: the montage that happens in between john leaving and zo
- 7:48Speaker 1: coming probably implies that it's not 21 seconds of time
- 7:51Speaker 1: that went by but it The viewer, it's 21 seconds, and, like,
- 7:55Speaker 1: Zoe comes walking in and, like, I don't know, gloats
- 7:58Speaker 1: to Hal, and Hal's like, ah, you're bait. And then,
- 8:01Speaker 1: you know, we see that John's all the way over
- 8:03Speaker 1: at the, what is it, the road sign, right? And
- 8:08Speaker 1: takes the shot. It's like, dude, is he also the Flash? Like,
- 8:11Speaker 1: did he sprint over there in light speed? In 21
- 8:15Speaker 1: seconds and take this shot? Again, I know it's not
- 8:17Speaker 1: supposed to be 21 seconds, but it feels like it. And, like,
- 8:20Speaker 1: I think that's something that happens a lot with this show,
- 8:23Speaker 1: that they take certain shortcuts as far as time goes.
- 8:25Speaker 1: There are certain emotional relationships that they imply are much deeper,
- 8:30Speaker 1: even though, to me, it doesn't feel like it. Like,
- 8:33Speaker 1: in the next episode, Noah, who's grown up, he's, like,
- 8:36Speaker 1: 18 years old, his mom... says to john hey noah
- 8:40Speaker 1: might want to see you why because he threw him
- 8:42Speaker 1: a football one time like why would he want to
- 8:45Speaker 1: see him like what are you talking about they have
- 8:47Speaker 1: a deep connection yeah um i mean i'm fine because
- 8:50Speaker 1: like the story and plot are ultimately very interesting but
- 8:54Speaker 1: like i don't know it's little moments like that with
- 8:55Speaker 1: the show that i'm like could we have just spent
- 8:57Speaker 1: a little bit more time thinking about this instead of
- 8:59Speaker 1: just like rushing it i don't know that's just me
- 9:01Speaker 1: man yeah.
- 9:02Speaker 3: I think The fact that those are your nitpicks are
- 9:05Speaker 3: proof that the show is like excellent, you know, like it's,
- 9:08Speaker 3: it's solid show.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Like you really have to kind of like be nitpicky
- 9:11Speaker 2: to find things that maybe are a little bit like sketchy.
- 9:13Speaker 2: I will say though, the one about that with John
- 9:15Speaker 2: at the end of episode five, it was kind of
- 9:17Speaker 2: obvious that it's like, Oh wait, how the hell did
- 9:18Speaker 2: he get all the way over there? They definitely missed
- 9:21Speaker 2: a little something there about like just giving us a
- 9:23Speaker 2: little bit more time. Maybe they could have cut somewhere
- 9:25Speaker 2: else in the, in the town.
- 9:26Speaker 3: But at that point, the.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Town was like fake to nighttime, right? Like make it night, like.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Something, something.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:32Speaker 3: That's a good point. That's funny.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Also, in episode five, we get the reveal that Zoe
- 9:37Speaker 2: is the one who killed Abin Sur, which was was
- 9:40Speaker 2: really interesting. And also, you know, basically killed Abin Sur
- 9:44Speaker 2: to close the loose ends.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Right.
- 9:46Speaker 3: She didn't want anyone to know who she really was.
- 9:49Speaker 3: So that's interesting.
- 9:50Speaker 2: Like basically the question we had in the show getting
- 9:53Speaker 2: answered right in that episode, which was great of course
- 9:56Speaker 2: after all this goes down go ahead you got something else.
- 10:00Speaker 1: No i i was just gonna say i would that
- 10:02Speaker 1: reveal says to me that maybe we're not gonna get
- 10:05Speaker 1: the hal jordan flashback that i thought we were gonna
- 10:08Speaker 1: get you know which is uh well i guess just
- 10:12Speaker 1: whatever however hal says he got the ring i doubt
- 10:16Speaker 1: like that's exactly how it went down But with this reveal,
- 10:19Speaker 1: maybe we're not going there.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I think we're probably not going there.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Unless Hal's backup wants to tell us. The hologram, right?
- 10:31Speaker 2: Which made an appearance in 5 and at the end
- 10:33Speaker 2: of 6. And it's going to be the Hal Jordan
- 10:37Speaker 2: for the rest of the season, it seems. We're just
- 10:38Speaker 2: going to have a hologram with us, which is cool.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Seems that way.
- 10:42Speaker 2: But yeah, at the end of episode 5, just to
- 10:43Speaker 2: close the loop on that one, obviously... Jon rips out
- 10:47Speaker 2: Zoe's heart to prove that it's the Manhunter, brings it
- 10:50Speaker 2: to Lyanna, and then also gives her the ring and
- 10:53Speaker 2: gives up the Green Lantern ring to the Guardians.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Were you prepared for this to be as Lord of
- 10:59Speaker 1: the Rings coded as it was? I wasn't.
- 11:02Speaker 3: I was not. No, I was not prepared at all.
- 11:04Speaker 2: And yeah, I mean, I was literally like, damn, he's
- 11:07Speaker 2: giving it up.
- 11:08Speaker 3: You know, like he, I felt like he had earned
- 11:11Speaker 3: it at that point.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Right.
- 11:11Speaker 3: But I guess the way is still important to him
- 11:14Speaker 3: on how to get it.
- 11:15Speaker 1: So.
- 11:16Speaker 3: It's very interesting.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Yeah. Like, I mean, John, John has always said that
- 11:20Speaker 1: he is someone who follows the rules. Right. You give
- 11:23Speaker 1: him instructions. He follows them to the T. Right. All
- 11:26Speaker 1: this time, he's felt as though he's been operating in
- 11:29Speaker 1: a way that's within the rules, within the framework. Therefore,
- 11:32Speaker 1: he is worthy. And he's being told, well, you got
- 11:35Speaker 1: to also rob it from this guy. And we lied.
- 11:38Speaker 1: We didn't tell him. that he's gonna that you're the
- 11:40Speaker 1: replacement right so he feels like really dishonorable about all
- 11:43Speaker 1: of this like it goes against everything he stands for.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Right yeah and and so yeah he makes that decision
- 11:50Speaker 2: to give it up and that basically is the mid-season
- 11:54Speaker 2: finale do you have any other things you want to
- 11:56Speaker 2: mention about five before we get into six.
- 11:59Speaker 1: I have three things uh the first thing uh the
- 12:01Speaker 1: acting's phenomenal yes aaron pierre is so good yes so
- 12:05Speaker 1: good There is one moment, though, that you have to
- 12:08Speaker 1: call out when he's in the car and he's cursing
- 12:11Speaker 1: out Hal. His British slips out. I just thought that
- 12:14Speaker 1: that was very funny.
- 12:15Speaker 3: That's great.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Like he couldn't he couldn't tell him to F off
- 12:18Speaker 1: without the British actually coming out. And I got a
- 12:21Speaker 1: delightful little smile out of that. One other smile that
- 12:23Speaker 1: I had was right before the Manhunter destroys the motel.
- 12:28Speaker 1: We get a zoom out or no, I think it's
- 12:30Speaker 1: after I think it's when John leaves the motel. We
- 12:33Speaker 1: see in the ruins, the sign of the motel is
- 12:36Speaker 1: offering cable and HBO, baby. Self-advertising. I thought that was
- 12:42Speaker 1: so funny. It had the 2006 logo, too. It's like,
- 12:45Speaker 1: well done, prop team. Well done.
- 12:47Speaker 3: I saw that. That's a great call out. That was
- 12:49Speaker 3: very fun.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Love it. Okay, so episode six, Bad Optics. Bad Optics.
- 12:56Speaker 2: This opens really quick. This opens with, you know, this
- 12:59Speaker 2: is 2026 now, right? This is 10 years since the
- 13:01Speaker 2: Rushville incident. We find out Hal's been in prison for
- 13:04Speaker 2: 10 years, but he's recently out. But the episode opens
- 13:07Speaker 2: with John and one of his brothers pitching a new company.
- 13:10Speaker 2: It's like underground shelter, Noah's Ark situation, specifically for protection
- 13:16Speaker 2: from intergalactic attacks. So he's got this new job trying
- 13:19Speaker 2: to make amends with his family, or at least his brothers.
- 13:22Speaker 2: He's not talking to his father. His mother is calling
- 13:25Speaker 2: him occasionally and apparently has been talking to Hal. This
- 13:28Speaker 2: episode basically is about Jon Stewart finding out that like
- 13:34Speaker 2: Hal Jordan wants to apologize which is really just BS
- 13:37Speaker 2: his mom told him that so that he would actually
- 13:40Speaker 2: go meet Hal Jordan because he Hal needed to talk
- 13:42Speaker 2: to him about something and yeah basically we get this
- 13:46Speaker 2: conversation between them Hal's not apologizing Jon punches him in
- 13:49Speaker 2: the face it's a great interaction and then later that
- 13:53Speaker 2: day this is kind of.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Before before later that day the last thing that happens
- 13:58Speaker 1: is Hal has a like in a about face in
- 14:03Speaker 1: his like energy and his attitude. And while John is leaving,
- 14:06Speaker 1: like very scared, Hal says, don't tell anyone you were here.
- 14:11Speaker 3: Right.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Right.
- 14:12Speaker 3: And then later he, this is the flash forward.
- 14:15Speaker 2: We had seen multiple times throughout the series where Hal
- 14:18Speaker 2: is now dead and the sheriff calls him, you know,
- 14:21Speaker 2: to the bleachers there of the football field where, where
- 14:23Speaker 2: their journey pretty much began for the show. And yeah,
- 14:27Speaker 2: now this episode is basically just John and the sheriff
- 14:30Speaker 2: and kind of going through an investigation on, you know,
- 14:34Speaker 2: who killed Hal Jordan.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Go ahead. I was just going to say, man, who
- 14:38Speaker 1: did kill Hal Jordan? Right. It's, it's been five episodes,
- 14:41Speaker 1: six episodes, six episodes. We still don't know. Yeah.
- 14:44Speaker 3: We don't know who killed Hal Jordan.
- 14:45Speaker 2: And another thing we got during this episode was the
- 14:48Speaker 2: Guy Gardner, Jon Stewart conversation.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Nathan Fillion.
- 14:53Speaker 2: Which it was, they did this so well. Like he
- 14:55Speaker 2: definitely fit in the show perfectly.
- 14:57Speaker 3: It was really great. But during that conversation.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Remember what I said? Remember what I said? They were
- 15:01Speaker 1: going to tone down the goofiness just enough. And, like,
- 15:03Speaker 1: there it was.
- 15:04Speaker 3: They did. It was awesome.
- 15:06Speaker 2: And we find out during this conversation that Sinestro has
- 15:08Speaker 2: been set... Someone broke out Sinestro from prison. Which leads
- 15:13Speaker 2: to the question of... Does anything that has to do
- 15:16Speaker 2: with Sinestro breaking out have to do with Hal Jordan's death?
- 15:19Speaker 3: I imagine. But what piece connects where? I have zero...
- 15:24Speaker 3: I really have zero theories. Like, I don't... I do
- 15:25Speaker 3: not know. I, like.
- 15:27Speaker 2: I feel like it's like an unrelated party that we
- 15:29Speaker 2: don't know yet for some reason.
- 15:31Speaker 1: I don't think so.
- 15:31Speaker 3: I don't know. What do you think?
- 15:34Speaker 1: I have, I have a theory.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Hit me.
- 15:37Speaker 1: So, okay. This whole episode I think gives us like
- 15:40Speaker 1: a list of suspects, right? We only got two more episodes, right?
- 15:44Speaker 1: And it would be crazy if like this show decided
- 15:46Speaker 1: the Butler did it, right? Like one of like just
- 15:49Speaker 1: something out of left field, right? Sure. So I think
- 15:51Speaker 1: this episode was dedicated to giving us all, all the
- 15:55Speaker 1: suspects who could possibly be involved in this. And really,
- 15:58Speaker 1: for me, this comes down to four different people. It
- 16:01Speaker 1: comes down to Bill. It comes down to Carrie. It
- 16:05Speaker 1: comes down to Noah. I'm coming back to him. Maggie's
- 16:08Speaker 1: a really weird and interesting character that gets introduced in
- 16:11Speaker 1: this episode. Or not introduced. Really, adult Maggie gets introduced
- 16:14Speaker 1: in this episode. We meet child Maggie in episode five.
- 16:18Speaker 1: She is standing with her mother, who is apparently grieving
- 16:21Speaker 1: over what looks like the father in the wreckage of...
- 16:25Speaker 1: of what happened in the attack in the town. Right.
- 16:29Speaker 1: And John had an interaction with her where he says,
- 16:31Speaker 1: I'm sorry, gives her the watch. They move on. We
- 16:33Speaker 1: meet adult Maggie later. Um, and she's blackmailing him because
- 16:37Speaker 1: she saw John at the diner with Hal. And that
- 16:41Speaker 1: looks very suspicious. Hal's death. Right. And she wants, as
- 16:44Speaker 1: she put it, reparations.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:47Speaker 1: There was a lot of, uh, racially charged language throughout this, uh,
- 16:50Speaker 1: throughout this episode that I thought very, very interesting. That
- 16:53Speaker 1: one being the most interesting, I think. Yeah. But as
- 16:57Speaker 1: far as suspects go, Nick, I'm looking at Noah.
- 17:00Speaker 3: What if Noah and Maggie?
- 17:04Speaker 1: I don't know what Maggie's deal is, but Noah is
- 17:06Speaker 1: just screaming to me. So earlier, remember what you said
- 17:09Speaker 1: about ARCs? Remember what you said about ARCs?
- 17:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:12Speaker 1: And they're specifically building an ARC, right? And we have
- 17:15Speaker 1: a Noah character. I don't know how that's connected, but
- 17:17Speaker 1: that's not a coincidence. That's connected, right? I don't know
- 17:22Speaker 1: how you're going to find out.
- 17:23Speaker 3: You're so right.
- 17:23Speaker 1: That's a good point.
- 17:24Speaker 2: They could be working together, even Noah and Maggie, because
- 17:26Speaker 2: like their childhoods were ruined basically by the lanterns, right?
- 17:29Speaker 1: By Hal and John. Right.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Interesting.
- 17:34Speaker 1: There's a conversation that happens between Noah and Zoe in
- 17:38Speaker 1: episode five, right before the attacks begin. And it's Noah
- 17:41Speaker 1: as a child. He's talking to Zoe and he said,
- 17:43Speaker 1: you know, what's happening? Why is dad mad? And Zoe
- 17:46Speaker 1: tells him. You know, he's mad that he's not able
- 17:48Speaker 1: to do more. And, you know, people are going to
- 17:50Speaker 1: die today. And he or she tells Noah two things.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Look without being seen. And the second thing she says
- 17:59Speaker 1: is remember everything I told you. Right. So very unclear
- 18:05Speaker 1: what's going on there right now. But we know that
- 18:07Speaker 1: Noah's turned out to be a football prodigy.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Right.
- 18:10Speaker 1: I wonder what else Noah is good at. Right. I
- 18:14Speaker 1: wonder if Noah is human, because I'm not convinced he is. Yeah.
- 18:20Speaker 1: There's something more going on with Carrie and this boy.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Right now, as far as my list of suspects who
- 18:25Speaker 1: killed Hal Jordan, it's Noah. I'm just calling that right now.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Oh, I love that. I don't have any other thoughts.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Like, I think that's a great theory, because I had zero.
- 18:36Speaker 3: So that's a really good call out.
- 18:38Speaker 1: My one question about that, though, Nick, is like, did
- 18:42Speaker 1: they mean to lure John back to Rushville Rushville I'm
- 18:46Speaker 1: saying that right right Rushville yeah yeah Rushville I don't
- 18:50Speaker 1: know why it sounded weird in my head Rushville yeah
- 18:53Speaker 1: why did they like if it doesn't feel like a
- 18:56Speaker 1: coincidence that John comes back right like right right before
- 18:59Speaker 1: Hal dies right and even Hal like calls him out
- 19:03Speaker 1: saying like don't tell anyone you were here like why
- 19:05Speaker 1: did he say that like what did Hal know right
- 19:07Speaker 1: before he died I don't know there's something a little
- 19:10Speaker 1: sketchy going.
- 19:11Speaker 2: On there Yeah, definitely a lot of unanswered questions or
- 19:14Speaker 2: new questions now that we're going to have to hopefully
- 19:17Speaker 2: find out here the next, the last two episodes of
- 19:19Speaker 2: this season.
- 19:20Speaker 3: The hologram.
- 19:22Speaker 1: This was such a great way to end the episode, man.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Yeah, because like you mentioned this previously, right? Like we're
- 19:27Speaker 2: going to get more than one ring. There's got to
- 19:28Speaker 2: be more than one lantern at a time. And we
- 19:31Speaker 2: find out that like when a green lantern dies, they
- 19:34Speaker 2: don't just give that ring to someone. They decommission it
- 19:37Speaker 2: and keep it somewhere in storage. I guess because there's
- 19:40Speaker 2: potentially backup information in it, which we see later in
- 19:43Speaker 2: the episode with Hal, right? And then they just make
- 19:46Speaker 2: a new ring for the new lantern. And so John,
- 19:49Speaker 2: convinces Guy Gardner that he owes him because he wouldn't
- 19:52Speaker 2: be Green Lantern if he wouldn't have turned it down.
- 19:54Speaker 2: So Guy pays up his debt, gets the ring, they
- 19:59Speaker 2: bury Hal in it, but John apparently couldn't get the
- 20:03Speaker 2: ring without being obvious. So he has to bury John
- 20:07Speaker 2: and then he has to unbury him later.
- 20:11Speaker 3: And at first you're like, what, now he's taking the ring? Like,
- 20:14Speaker 3: why now?
- 20:15Speaker 2: And then obviously he uses the Hal Jordan trick on
- 20:18Speaker 2: how to make sure the ring's still got 5% battery life.
- 20:22Speaker 2: And we get the hologram, which is honestly great comedic
- 20:25Speaker 2: relief to end the episode, because I was a little
- 20:27Speaker 2: worried we weren't going to see Hal Jordan anymore, at
- 20:30Speaker 2: least not a lot. And now I think we're going
- 20:32Speaker 2: to get him pretty much the rest of the season,
- 20:33Speaker 2: which is great.
- 20:35Speaker 1: It is cool that he's going to be involved in
- 20:39Speaker 1: solving his own murder yeah which to me feels like
- 20:43Speaker 1: not maybe not a like a reference or anything but
- 20:45Speaker 1: it feels like it is inspired uh by one of
- 20:48Speaker 1: my favorite comics nick uh whatever happened to the cape
- 20:51Speaker 1: crusader which is a story about batman finding out that
- 20:54Speaker 1: villains and superheroes are attending his own funeral and he
- 20:58Speaker 1: as a spirit is watching this happen and he's confused
- 21:00Speaker 1: because he doesn't remember dying so he has to solve
- 21:03Speaker 1: his own murder It gave me kind of those vibes, right?
- 21:06Speaker 1: That this echo of Hal is going to help John
- 21:09Speaker 1: figure out what happened to the real Hal, right?
- 21:12Speaker 2: And he certainly doesn't remember how he died because it's
- 21:14Speaker 2: a backup from like 10 years ago or 20 years
- 21:15Speaker 2: ago or whatever.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Great. Yeah.
- 21:18Speaker 3: That's cool. I love that little.
- 21:20Speaker 1: That is cool.
- 21:20Speaker 3: That little Batman comic book comparison.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Hell yeah. It's a great story for the record. But... Yeah, man.
- 21:29Speaker 3: What else stands out about episode six to you?
- 21:32Speaker 1: John. So John... is now a brilliant architect 10 years later, right?
- 21:38Speaker 1: Someone even calls him like a hot... I think it's Maggie.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Maggie calls him like a hot shot architect. Yeah. And
- 21:42Speaker 1: clearly he's dressing in nice suits. He's got the attention
- 21:46Speaker 1: of the U.S. military. He's a big deal, right? The
- 21:48Speaker 1: reason why I want to call this out is because
- 21:50Speaker 1: apparently John is not just an excellent architect when it
- 21:54Speaker 1: comes to making buildings. Apparently he's a fantastic architect in
- 22:00Speaker 1: manipulating people.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Because watching... watching this episode for a second time, I
- 22:05Speaker 1: didn't realize how many people he was playing in order
- 22:09Speaker 1: to get the ring into the ground so that he
- 22:12Speaker 1: could get the ring and then talk to the hologram, right? Right.
- 22:16Speaker 1: So he's got to talk, he's got to talk to Carrie,
- 22:18Speaker 1: they have to talk to the coroner, figure out what's
- 22:21Speaker 1: going to happen to the body, right? Figures out what's
- 22:23Speaker 1: going to happen to the body, convinces Carrie that there
- 22:25Speaker 1: should be a burial, right? And then gets the attention
- 22:29Speaker 1: of Guy Gardner, convinces Guy that he owes him and
- 22:32Speaker 1: that They should honor him because he's the first Earth
- 22:35Speaker 1: Green Lantern and he should be dressed in a uniform
- 22:38Speaker 1: and a ring. And he manipulates them into doing this.
- 22:41Speaker 1: And then also he can actually get to the ground
- 22:46Speaker 1: and grave rob Hal Jordan. Right. It's like bravo.
- 22:52Speaker 3: Bravo.
- 22:52Speaker 2: And not only that, he's manipulating his own family throughout
- 22:55Speaker 2: the episode too to buy himself time.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true.
- 22:57Speaker 3: And to take care of his father, he's manipulating his
- 23:00Speaker 3: other brother. And yeah, I mean... Jon Stewart, master manipulator.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Really? Architect of people, too.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Architect of people. Love that.
- 23:10Speaker 1: All right.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Any other notes? Any predictions for the last two episodes?
- 23:14Speaker 1: My prediction is Noah killed Hal. But, you know, there
- 23:18Speaker 1: are so many subplots left to take care of here, right?
- 23:22Speaker 1: We have the parent subplot with what's going on with
- 23:25Speaker 1: his parents, right? Like, ultimately, like, I don't know if
- 23:28Speaker 1: they're just there for some basic conflict, but... It feels
- 23:32Speaker 1: like there's more left going on with Bernadette. Just as
- 23:36Speaker 1: far as her relationship goes with John. Obviously, like I
- 23:38Speaker 1: brought up, there's Noah. There's now a Maggie subplot. Yeah.
- 23:42Speaker 1: And we have Sinestro just out there somewhere lurking. And
- 23:48Speaker 1: who busted Sinestro? Guy Gardner says that Hal Jordan has
- 23:52Speaker 1: a good alibi because he was in jail. Right. I
- 23:57Speaker 1: don't know if I buy it.
- 23:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:00Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 24:01Speaker 1: It feels like a cover. Maybe Hal did it somehow.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Maybe he was able to get his old mentor out.
- 24:07Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Yeah, that's my biggest question, I think, right now, is
- 24:11Speaker 2: who let Sinestro go free. I feel like, oh, yeah,
- 24:13Speaker 2: I don't know. I mean, we find that out, we
- 24:15Speaker 2: find out who killed Hal, and vice versa, probably.
- 24:18Speaker 1: So, exciting. You know, it is exciting. And, you know,
- 24:21Speaker 1: I just thought of one other thing for Noah, as
- 24:25Speaker 1: far as him being my number one suspect. I just
- 24:28Speaker 1: thought of this. Mm-hmm. So Abansur dies at the hands
- 24:34Speaker 1: of Zo, the Manhunter, right? So we have a Manhunter
- 24:37Speaker 1: who kills a Green Lantern after the Green Lantern helped
- 24:43Speaker 1: the Manhunter. Whatever was going on with Hal and Carrie,
- 24:48Speaker 1: I wonder if he also had a relationship with Noah, right?
- 24:52Speaker 1: And perhaps he was able to help Noah with something before...
- 24:56Speaker 1: before dying some kind of way that he felt like
- 24:58Speaker 1: he could redeem himself. Right. How was trying to redeem
- 25:00Speaker 1: himself in this town? We find out he's going to doors.
- 25:03Speaker 1: He's knocking, trying to help people. Right. Perhaps he does.
- 25:06Speaker 1: And in this like full circle narrative moment, we find
- 25:09Speaker 1: ourselves yet again with a man hunter who kills a
- 25:12Speaker 1: green lantern. Right. I don't know. It feels like we
- 25:16Speaker 1: don't obviously have all the details there yet, but as
- 25:18Speaker 1: far as like a narrative through line, like that's what
- 25:20Speaker 1: I'm seeing right now. Yeah.
- 25:22Speaker 2: All right.
- 25:22Speaker 1: I love that.
- 25:23Speaker 3: That's full circle. Excellent.
- 25:25Speaker 1: All right.
