- 1:17Speaker 1: school football tonight. The m AIS in full swing, MHSA
- 1:20Speaker 1: around the state. Everybody playing a preseason game and or
- 1:24Speaker 1: you know we used to call them jamboreez and that's
- 1:27Speaker 1: a lot of spring stuff, but I don't know how
- 1:28Speaker 1: many jamborees people are playing. Typically it's a matchup like
- 1:32Speaker 1: for instance, over here Brandon today, Brand's taken on Warren Central.
- 1:36Speaker 1: And normally what they'll do, and what they've been doing
- 1:38Speaker 1: over the last several years, is you'll play a quarter
- 1:41Speaker 1: for the high school guys and obviously no kickff still
- 1:45Speaker 1: let them kick, but no actual kick return type stuff,
- 1:47Speaker 1: no punt return stuff, no kicking game stuff, field goals,
- 1:51Speaker 1: extra points maybe, you know, without a rush. And then
- 1:54Speaker 1: they'll do a quarter with the underclassmen of the junior varsity,
- 1:58Speaker 1: and they'll come back and do a quarter with the
- 1:59Speaker 1: with the high school guys, and they'll do that about
- 2:02Speaker 1: three renditions. And you know, obviously you try to keep
- 2:05Speaker 1: it as I mean, officials officiate it so courtesy the
- 2:09Speaker 1: MHSA officials officiating the games, and they're getting their work
- 2:12Speaker 1: as well. Right this is their first live action and
- 2:16Speaker 1: you just see what happens, and you know, you play
- 2:18Speaker 1: you starters a little bit. If you've got guys that
- 2:20Speaker 1: are you know, key coogs to your season, you may
- 2:22Speaker 1: not play them as much. But that's what you'll see
- 2:24Speaker 1: around the state tonight and then next week is is
- 2:27Speaker 1: live this time next week we will be in two
- 2:29Speaker 1: below broadcasting this show for two Blow and Brandon on
- 2:32Speaker 1: the road next week. So it is Hammer, hit the gas.
- 2:35Speaker 1: We're ready to go. All right, let's and you can
- 2:38Speaker 1: textas sixer one eighty five three seven seven six The
- 2:40Speaker 1: athletic Antonio Morales. What is the best college football program
- 2:44Speaker 1: without a national championship or title in the past fifty years?
- 2:48Speaker 1: I do love the way they did this, so they
- 2:51Speaker 1: crunch some numbers and the rankings were based on the
- 2:53Speaker 1: following score system. If you play have appeared in a
- 2:56Speaker 1: national championship game in the last fifty years, you got
- 2:59Speaker 1: ten points. Ten points per appearance, ap top five finish
- 3:04Speaker 1: eight points every time every time. If you finish in
- 3:06Speaker 1: the top five conference championship six points. Major Bowl that's
- 3:11Speaker 1: during the BCS new year. Six college football playoff appearances
- 3:16Speaker 1: four points every time. Ten win seasons, two points every time,
- 3:19Speaker 1: top twenty five, outside the top five, outside the top
- 3:25Speaker 1: five two points. Consecutive losing seasons you got minus one.
- 3:29Speaker 1: And I like that they have a kind of a
- 3:31Speaker 1: deduction in there as well, so they didn't just throw
- 3:33Speaker 1: numbers at this and say, okay, hey, we think you
- 3:36Speaker 1: know Nebraska is the best team, which obviously they won
- 3:38Speaker 1: a championship in the last fifty years. But humor here,
- 3:40Speaker 1: they didn't just throw a team out there. The national
- 3:44Speaker 1: championship game started in nineteen ninety eight, the true national
- 3:48Speaker 1: championship game. Remember it's hard to believe, and remember that
- 3:52Speaker 1: prior to nineteen ninety eight, we didn't have a real
- 3:55Speaker 1: national championship game in college football. Now you may have
- 3:58Speaker 1: a year where the are Orange Bowl was going to
- 4:00Speaker 1: match Notre Dame in Miami, or Alabama and Florida State
- 4:05Speaker 1: or whoever, and that was going to be considered the
- 4:07Speaker 1: national championship game. Or you had two bowl games, maybe
- 4:11Speaker 1: it was a Sugar Bowl in the Rose Bowl, and
- 4:13Speaker 1: you knew that the champion was going to be crowned
- 4:15Speaker 1: out of the AP and the coaches out of one
- 4:17Speaker 1: of those. We didn't have a true national championship game
- 4:20Speaker 1: until nineteen ninety eight when the BCS started, and of
- 4:25Speaker 1: course that has remained in place through the four and
- 4:28Speaker 1: now twelve team playoff formats. Co Conference championships count for
- 4:33Speaker 1: the full six points as well, so when they run
- 4:35Speaker 1: these numbers. The number one team without a championship the
- 4:40Speaker 1: last fifty years is the Oregon Ducks. And that makes
- 4:45Speaker 1: total sense when you think about it. Now, again, we've
- 4:47Speaker 1: talked about Oregon's football history and the fact that Oregon
- 4:52Speaker 1: really didn't come on the scene until ninety five. Let
- 4:56Speaker 1: me go back over here and look real quick to
- 5:00Speaker 1: kind of do some revisionists. Let's see if I could
- 5:04Speaker 1: do this right. Yeah, there we go. Pull this out
- 5:07Speaker 1: of the stat deck over here. Ninety five ninety six.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Let's see, all right, Yeah, Oregon has played one hundred
- 5:15Speaker 1: and nine seasons of football. Their first football season was
- 5:18Speaker 1: in nineteen sixteen. And when you look at Oregon, like
- 5:24Speaker 1: a lot of teams, they were a independent. It seems
- 5:29Speaker 1: like everybody was an independent. But they didn't start in
- 5:32Speaker 1: nineteen sixteen as an independent. They were in a conference
- 5:34Speaker 1: called the PCC. That's going to be the Pacific Coast Conference,
- 5:38Speaker 1: I would assume the PCC, and they were in that
- 5:41Speaker 1: until nineteen fifty eight. In nineteen fifty nine, they became
- 5:47Speaker 1: an independent and they stayed in the independent side of
- 5:50Speaker 1: things for three five years. Oregon was an independent from
- 5:55Speaker 1: nineteen fifty nine all the way to nineteen sixty three.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Through all of this, they had a nine win season
- 6:02Speaker 1: in nineteen twenty eight, another nine win season in nineteen
- 6:06Speaker 1: thirty three, and nine win season in nineteen forty eight.
- 6:09Speaker 1: You know, they just most of these were four win teams,
- 6:12Speaker 1: six win teams, seven win teams. They joined a conference
- 6:15Speaker 1: in nineteen sixty four called the aa WU the Double
- 6:19Speaker 1: a WU. The conference was not kind to them. Early
- 6:23Speaker 1: they won up, you know, a couple of years they
- 6:24Speaker 1: won three games, two games, four games, five games two
- 6:27Speaker 1: two two, three three three. I mean, they were bad.
- 6:30Speaker 1: They joined the Pack eight in nineteen sixty eight, then
- 6:33Speaker 1: it became the Pack ten in nineteen seventy eight, and
- 6:36Speaker 1: of course it stayed the Pack ten all the way
- 6:39Speaker 1: until it became the Pack twelve and twenty eleven. But
- 6:42Speaker 1: Oregon's rise really started under you know, Rich Brooks gets
- 6:46Speaker 1: credit for Oregons, you know, kind of pop off party
- 6:51Speaker 1: and you're looking around nineteen ninety three, nineteen ninety four,
- 6:55Speaker 1: rich Brooks went nine to four, and then Mike Lottie
- 7:00Speaker 1: took that program over and really took it to a
- 7:04Speaker 1: different level because when you get into you know, they
- 7:09Speaker 1: lived around nine wins, that kind of became the norm
- 7:11Speaker 1: seven eight nine, seven eight nine, and then in two
- 7:14Speaker 1: thousand under Bellotti they won ten games, and then eleven
- 7:19Speaker 1: Ballotti slipped seven eight five, and then he comes back
- 7:22Speaker 1: and he wins ten and two thousand and five, and
- 7:25Speaker 1: then Bellotti hit the gas. The whole thing really just
- 7:29Speaker 1: took off in two thousand and eight. In two thousand
- 7:32Speaker 1: and eight, Oregon really just hit the gas and multiple
- 7:37Speaker 1: ten win seasons, some twelve win seasons, eleven win seasons.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Mark Helfrich after Chip Kelly. Chip Kelly was there for one, two, three,
- 7:45Speaker 1: four years. Now there was a dip under Helfrich which
- 7:50Speaker 1: got him out of there. They did go four to
- 7:51Speaker 1: eight and twenty sixteen, but then Willie Taggart got them
- 7:55Speaker 1: back on track before Mario Christobal and now Dan Lanning.
- 7:58Speaker 1: So I have no problem with Miami being number one.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I mean Oregon being number one on this list. Two
- 8:04Speaker 1: hundred and forty five total points. The Ducks, where as
- 8:08Speaker 1: they said, a pretty middling program until they won the
- 8:10Speaker 1: Pack ten and the Reach the Rose Ball in nineteen
- 8:12Speaker 1: ninety four, they have a turn back since so all
- 8:16Speaker 1: organ is missing is that national championship. As they are
- 8:20Speaker 1: the number one team that there's other ranked here. We'll
- 8:22Speaker 1: get into number twos and threes. Some of these are
- 8:24Speaker 1: pretty interesting when you start talking about that. Some of
- 8:28Speaker 1: these teams may surprise you. Who who based on the
- 8:31Speaker 1: point system really kind of rank out pretty high here
- 8:35Speaker 1: six one eight nine seven one zero five nine. That

- 10:52Speaker 1: seven six B. If you got anything you need to
- 10:53Speaker 1: get to before I move to team number two, let's
- 10:57Speaker 1: go to team two. Best teams last fifty years, it's
- 11:00Speaker 1: never won a national championship Oregon against the Crown at
- 11:03Speaker 1: number one courtesy Athletic number two. Texas A and M,
- 11:07Speaker 1: and I would have probably off the cuff said Texas
- 11:11Speaker 1: A and M, just because they've done a lot, but
- 11:15Speaker 1: they've never been able to get over the hump. You
- 11:18Speaker 1: look at Texas A and M. They haven't ever played
- 11:20Speaker 1: in a national championship. They've had two AP top five
- 11:25Speaker 1: finishes conference championships, they've played in seven Major bowls, ten
- 11:31Speaker 1: ten win seasons. They've had ten top twenty five finishes.
- 11:35Speaker 1: They've had nineteen and consecutive losing seasons. They've had one
- 11:40Speaker 1: one consecutive losing seasons. The Aggie's won a national championship
- 11:44Speaker 1: in nineteen thirty nine, but that doesn't count outside this range.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Texas A and m is rarely bad, but it has
- 11:51Speaker 1: difficulty reaching its ceiling, with only two top five finishes
- 11:55Speaker 1: over the past fifty years, only three ten win seasons
- 11:58Speaker 1: over the last thirty years, and no conference titles since
- 12:00Speaker 1: nineteen ninety eight in the Big Twelve. After reaching the
- 12:03Speaker 1: playoff for the first time in twenty twenty five, ken
- 12:06Speaker 1: Elko Mike Elko, their coach, built on that momentum and
- 12:09Speaker 1: changed the program and get it its first program's first
- 12:13Speaker 1: national championship. Number three. This one may surprise you, but
- 12:17Speaker 1: then again, when you think about it again, this team
- 12:20Speaker 1: would make sense as well. It's not a national brand
- 12:23Speaker 1: as far as like you know, it's not a national brand.
- 12:26Speaker 1: It's not a team that is a blue blood type team,
- 12:29Speaker 1: a team that's been you know, there forever. But they've
- 12:32Speaker 1: been around, especially if you're forty and under, you'll remember
- 12:35Speaker 1: of Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech, the Hokies national championship game
- 12:39Speaker 1: appearance has won. That was the Michael Vick nineteen ninety
- 12:42Speaker 1: nine game against Florida State. Ap top five finishes, one
- 12:45Speaker 1: conference championships, seven Major bowls, seven ten wins seasons, fourteen
- 12:50Speaker 1: top twenty five finishes, eighteen consecutive losing seasons. They've had
- 12:55Speaker 1: as many, as you know, consecutive times. They've done that
- 12:58Speaker 1: seven times in the history of the program. The past
- 13:00Speaker 1: fifteen years have been really rough for the Hokies, who
- 13:03Speaker 1: have won more than eight games just twice since twenty twelve.
- 13:08Speaker 1: That followed a seventeen a seventeen season stretch of ninety
- 13:12Speaker 1: five through twenty eleven under Frank Beamer, which Virginia Tech
- 13:16Speaker 1: played in the BCS National Championship Game. But I think
- 13:19Speaker 1: you see why James Franklin probably took this job because
- 13:24Speaker 1: this is a team that or a program that has committed.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I think they have money, they love football, and they
- 13:32Speaker 1: want to be a winner. And you know, since Frank
- 13:34Speaker 1: Beamer left, they've just been looking, I think, for the
- 13:36Speaker 1: right leadership. And obviously college football has changed since Frank
- 13:40Speaker 1: Beamer left. Number four on this list TCU National Championship
- 13:45Speaker 1: Game appearances won. That was the one where they just
- 13:47Speaker 1: got blustered by Georgia. Three ap top five finishes. They've
- 13:51Speaker 1: won nine conference championships over the last fifty years, four
- 13:55Speaker 1: major bowl games. Also, they've got thirteen ten win seasons,
- 14:01Speaker 1: eleven top twenty five appearances, and or finishes, and they
- 14:06Speaker 1: have had some you know, some droughts there. Excuse me
- 14:09Speaker 1: as well. Excuse me as TCU has outright one or
- 14:12Speaker 1: shared a conference championship in five different leagues since nineteen
- 14:16Speaker 1: seventy six. In two thousand, Dennis Franchion orchestrated the program's
- 14:20Speaker 1: first ten win season in more than sixty years before
- 14:24Speaker 1: leaving for Alabama. His successor, Gary Patterson, elevated the program
- 14:28Speaker 1: on a different level over his twenty one year tenure,
- 14:30Speaker 1: eleven to ten win seasons and six top ten finishes.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Sunny Dykes took over for Paterson. I led the Hornfrogs
- 14:37Speaker 1: to the College Football Playoff title Game in twenty twenty two.
- 14:40Speaker 1: There have been some down moments, but the Frogs have
- 14:42Speaker 1: experienced some really exciting times. I don't know, well, let
- 14:46Speaker 1: me say this, prior to pay for play, I would
- 14:50Speaker 1: say tc really didn't have a shot. And I know
- 14:52Speaker 1: they played in the title game a couple of years ago.
- 14:55Speaker 1: But with the money in Texas and the access that
- 14:57Speaker 1: they have even in the Big twelve, and that's what
- 15:00Speaker 1: makes the Big twelve teams interesting. Now there's some programs
- 15:03Speaker 1: with some big money. Oklahoma State, they got big money big,
- 15:06Speaker 1: big money T Boon's pick T boone pickings money, Texas Tech,
- 15:11Speaker 1: Texas Christian TCU. There's some big money out there in
- 15:16Speaker 1: the state of Texas. Number five on the list is
- 15:19Speaker 1: a team that I it looks like they might be
- 15:23Speaker 1: getting back serious about football, UCLA. UCLA has never appeared
- 15:28Speaker 1: in the last few years. They have not apeared in
- 15:30Speaker 1: a national championship game. They've only had two ap top
- 15:32Speaker 1: five finishes, seven conference championships, eight BCS New Year six
- 15:39Speaker 1: or College fotall, no College Faball playoff appearances, but eight
- 15:42Speaker 1: big bowl games, eight ten wins, season sixteen top twenty
- 15:46Speaker 1: five finishes, and they've had some some downspurts there as well.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Excuse me. Bob Chesney arrived this offseason after leading James
- 15:55Speaker 1: Madison to the playoffs, and you know he was the
- 15:57Speaker 1: successor there for Kurt Signetti and injected some life into
- 16:03Speaker 1: a program that hasn't appeared in a major bowl game
- 16:05Speaker 1: since the nineteen ninety eight Rose Bowl. UCLA appeared in
- 16:07Speaker 1: seven major bowls in the previous sixteen seasons, so recent
- 16:11Speaker 1: history hasn't been kind to the Bruins. The much hype
- 16:15Speaker 1: Chip Kelly Higher turned out to be a dud and
- 16:18Speaker 1: the Bruins have suffered through seven losing seasons dating back
- 16:21Speaker 1: to twenty sixteen. The glory days are getting further and
- 16:24Speaker 1: further away for them as well. Wisconsin number six, and
- 16:29Speaker 1: again this would make sense to me. Wisconsin hasn't played
- 16:32Speaker 1: in a national championship game. They've had won AP top
- 16:35Speaker 1: five finish. They have played in six conference championships, been
- 16:38Speaker 1: in nine Major bowl games, thirteen to ten win seasons. Now,
- 16:42Speaker 1: the Big Ten is different today than it was even
- 16:44Speaker 1: seven years ago when you had the leaders versus Legends
- 16:48Speaker 1: division in the Big Ten, and Wisconsin seemed like was
- 16:51Speaker 1: playing Ohio State or Michigan or Penn State annually in
- 16:54Speaker 1: the Big Ten championship. Number seven on this list, believe
- 16:57Speaker 1: it or not, it's Iowa, the Hawkeyes. They haven't played
- 17:00Speaker 1: in the national championship. We're talking about best teams to
- 17:03Speaker 1: have not won a national championship. If you've just joined
- 17:05Speaker 1: us over the last fifty years, they've had zero AP
- 17:09Speaker 1: top five finishes in fifty years. They've had five times,
- 17:13Speaker 1: they've played in conference championship games, six major bowl games,
- 17:17Speaker 1: but eleven ten win seasons and twenty two top twenty
- 17:21Speaker 1: five finishes. They've had very few hiccup seasons. Iowa's offense
- 17:27Speaker 1: has caused many headaches in recent years. The Hawkeys have
- 17:30Speaker 1: been a consistent top twenty five program for the past decade.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Kirk Ference has been in charge since nineteen ninety nine
- 17:36Speaker 1: and has five top ten finishes in three major bowl
- 17:39Speaker 1: appearances on his resume. The Hawkeys flirted with a playoff
- 17:43Speaker 1: trip in twenty fifteen, but lost to Michigan State in
- 17:45Speaker 1: the Big Ten title game. I don't even remember Iowa
- 17:49Speaker 1: and Michigan State in the Big I guess twenty fifteen
- 17:52Speaker 1: was the year Michigan State went to the College Football
- 17:54Speaker 1: Playoff and then got dust rolled by Alabama in the
- 17:57Speaker 1: semi finals. Number eight on the list, West Virginia, rich
- 18:03Speaker 1: Rod trying to bring the program back to relevancy. No
- 18:07Speaker 1: national championships, two AP top five finishes, seven conference champips,
- 18:14Speaker 1: five major bowl games, seven ten win seasons. So the Mountaineers,
- 18:17Speaker 1: you know, this was a big, big program obviously back
- 18:20Speaker 1: in the late nineties. And we'll get one more in here.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Number nine Utah, And again this one would make sense.
- 18:27Speaker 1: They haven't played a national title game. They've had two
- 18:31Speaker 1: AP Top five finishes seven championships, four major Bowl games,
- 18:36Speaker 1: eleven ten win seasons. I mean they in twenty top
- 18:39Speaker 1: twenty five appearances. They've they've really really done some big
- 18:42Speaker 1: things at Utah. We're brought to you my friends at

- 20:36Speaker 6: My man tells me you're looking forward to Marshall.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Maddy, Oh yeah, yeah, absolutely. Did you did you see
- 20:47Speaker 1: the internet burning up with a highlight last night?
- 20:51Speaker 6: I sure do.
- 20:52Speaker 1: I said, here comes another Manny, Hey, wasn't it weird?
- 20:57Speaker 1: Let mean, the guy moves just like Peyton, he walks
- 20:59Speaker 1: like Peyton, and he throws at me talk about spitting image.
- 21:02Speaker 1: It was kind of scary to watch.
- 21:05Speaker 6: I tell you what, you know. I mean, he's got
- 21:08Speaker 6: the pedigree, right, you know, Dad, grand Dad. You know,
- 21:13Speaker 6: I'm sure. I'm sure he's gonna be great. You know. Now.
- 21:17Speaker 6: The other thing, you know is the expectations ride right,
- 21:21Speaker 6: you know, yeah, all that we put on arts, you know.
- 21:25Speaker 6: So uh, if he's any good law the expectations, you know,
- 21:29Speaker 6: it's kind of sucks for him because he can't be mediocre,
- 21:33Speaker 6: right because then if he add these people will say
- 21:36Speaker 6: the steak.
- 21:38Speaker 1: No, you're absolutely right. Of course, we got, you know,
- 21:40Speaker 1: several years of high school football. Then we got to
- 21:42Speaker 1: get him into college and all that. Keith, I want
- 21:44Speaker 1: to ask you about a couple of teams. I was
- 21:46Speaker 1: going through some homework here from the athletic the best
- 21:49Speaker 1: teams to not win a national title in the last
- 21:51Speaker 1: fifty years. And the athletic put a great piece together,
- 21:54Speaker 1: and they put numbers to it. They didn't just you know,
- 21:56Speaker 1: throw something at the wall. They used national championship game appearances,
- 21:59Speaker 1: a peetie five finishes, conference championships, Major bowls, ten win seasons,
- 22:03Speaker 1: top twenty five finishes, consecutive losing seasons. They've got Oregon
- 22:07Speaker 1: ranked as the best team in the last fifty years
- 22:10Speaker 1: that hasn't won a national title. Now, obviously their odds
- 22:12Speaker 1: are really good at AmeriStar to win the national title
- 22:16Speaker 1: this year. And your estimation is Oregon the best team
- 22:19Speaker 1: without a title in the last you know, fifty years.
- 22:22Speaker 6: In the last fifty years. Oh wow, you know that. Jeez,
- 22:28Speaker 6: that's a tough one. I can see where they're coming from,
- 22:33Speaker 6: you know. I mean when you say, like, are we
- 22:40Speaker 6: talking you mean a school program? Are we talking an
- 22:45Speaker 6: individual team? Oh?
- 22:47Speaker 1: We're just talking about like the program itself.
- 22:50Speaker 6: M Yeah, yeah, Jack, you know, I mean I would say,
- 22:56Speaker 6: is up there? You know, like if you ask me,
- 22:59Speaker 6: I'll put less up there. I'm just kidding, Jake. Uh yeah,
- 23:06Speaker 6: I could see it. I'd have to read the article
- 23:08Speaker 6: though to see what all the parameters are.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no doubt about it.
- 23:14Speaker 6: Hey, Jake, you know when we were talking not switch gears,
- 23:17Speaker 6: but when we were talking about uh you know, uh
- 23:21Speaker 6: Manny Marshall, have you known have you seen how many
- 23:27Speaker 6: sons of former players are notre Dame?
- 23:32Speaker 1: You know, I heard, I think I saw how many?
- 23:35Speaker 6: Is it?
- 23:35Speaker 1: Is it three or four?
- 23:37Speaker 6: I want to say it's like six or seven?
- 23:39Speaker 1: Oh wow?
- 23:41Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean there's a bunch, right, I mean, so
- 23:44Speaker 6: like I know that there's like Jerome Bennetton kid. Right,
- 23:48Speaker 6: but remember Bryce Young was a defensive lineman. He's got
- 23:52Speaker 6: a kid there. Lanny Fitzgerald, uh, got a kid there.
- 23:59Speaker 6: There's a couple I have to pull off the article intendity,
- 24:02Speaker 6: but there's there's a bunch of them. I would say
- 24:06Speaker 6: there's probably about six. Uh son of a former NFL players.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Well that just once speaks of the bloodlines and the
- 24:16Speaker 1: greatness of those players. And then too Keith. That tells
- 24:17Speaker 1: me we're getting really old.
- 24:22Speaker 6: To go by his kids in that Notre Dame. Wow.
- 24:29Speaker 6: Uh Bryan young kid, I think his name is Bright. Yeah. Yeah,
- 24:35Speaker 6: there's a couple more. I have to get that article in.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Very nice. We're visiting with Keith Hartie sportsbook manager Adam Arastar.
- 24:42Speaker 1: It is Friday. I want you to get out and
- 24:44Speaker 1: play today, Keith. You know, Uh, Fernando Mendoza with another
- 24:49Speaker 1: great outing. Uh you are good out of yesterday. Uh.
- 24:52Speaker 1: He is such a unique person. You know when you
- 24:55Speaker 1: watch him in the interview rooms, I mean he's the
- 24:56Speaker 1: smartest guy in the room. He's very articulate, he's very kind.
- 25:00Speaker 1: If you listen to him talk, it's almost like he's
- 25:02Speaker 1: not a football player and it's like.
- 25:05Speaker 6: He's having fun.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:07Speaker 6: You know that interview that I saw after the game,
- 25:10Speaker 6: the name was all smile.
- 25:12Speaker 7: Uh.
- 25:13Speaker 6: You know, he's got he's got a really uh magnetic personality. Yes,
- 25:17Speaker 6: definitely a breath of fresh air. I just hope that
- 25:21Speaker 6: the Raiders can put some put some pieces around him.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, there's there's no doubt about it. And
- 25:28Speaker 1: we'll see how they do that or if they do that. Keith,
- 25:31Speaker 1: when you look at college football next week week zero,
- 25:35Speaker 1: obviously we want people to come in to play that.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Now's the time for win total time as well, isn't it.
- 25:40Speaker 7: Oh yeah, well you know we got all uh got
- 25:44Speaker 7: all the futures are out team totals. One of my
- 25:49Speaker 7: favorites is a team to make the twelve team playoff.
- 25:53Speaker 6: I really like that one. Of course, you got to
- 25:55Speaker 6: win the national championship to win your to win your conference. Yeah,
- 25:59Speaker 6: uh so, and now's the time to get him because
- 26:02Speaker 6: you know those those odds will change. So if especially
- 26:09Speaker 6: you know now, unless of course, you know you got
- 26:12Speaker 6: like a favorite, it loses a game early, then the
- 26:17Speaker 6: odds can go up, but but typically they don't. They
- 26:20Speaker 6: go down. And if you got a long shot and
- 26:22Speaker 6: they're off to a good start, well you're not going
- 26:25Speaker 6: to get those long odds anymore. So you definitely want
- 26:27Speaker 6: to get your futures in before the season start.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Keith just off the off the cuff. And this isn't
- 26:33Speaker 1: Keith giving gambling advice or gaming advice. I'm just we're
- 26:36Speaker 1: having fun here. Alabama eight and a half. Would you
- 26:38Speaker 1: go over under today?
- 26:41Speaker 6: You would think Nina would be no problem. You know,
- 26:46Speaker 6: it seems like an easy over. But I don't like it, Jake.
- 26:49Speaker 6: If you asked me today, I would have to go under.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I'm I'm I'm may well. I would probably
- 26:56Speaker 1: you know, just push that one to the sign. I
- 26:58Speaker 1: probably woudn't play it, but if you're making me pick it,
- 27:01Speaker 1: I may go. I don't know. Today I may go under,
- 27:04Speaker 1: and tomorrow may go over. I just think it's that
- 27:06Speaker 1: razor thin Auburn six and a half. Yeah, I've been,
- 27:13Speaker 1: you know, looking for this Auburn turnaround. Beaver clowns me
- 27:16Speaker 1: a lot, which he should, because I've been, you know, saying, hey,
- 27:19Speaker 1: they're coming back, they're coming back, and they haven't come
- 27:21Speaker 1: back at six and a half. I'm with you. I
- 27:23Speaker 1: would I would likely take the over. Let's get a
- 27:27Speaker 1: couple more in here, just just for fun and see
- 27:29Speaker 1: what you think. You know, Clemson is man. Clemson is
- 27:32Speaker 1: at seven and a half. It's probably been almost twenty years,
- 27:38Speaker 1: you know, Dabbo's first couple of years that Clemson had
- 27:40Speaker 1: to win total solo seven and a half of the
- 27:42Speaker 1: Clemson Tigers.
- 27:45Speaker 6: Well, it's hard to go under on that, but I'm
- 27:51Speaker 6: gonna go under on seven and a half.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna go over on seven and a half.
- 27:57Speaker 1: But I don't feel real good about it. And what
- 28:01Speaker 1: about Florida Florida seven and a half? You know, Florida,
- 28:03Speaker 1: the Gators. Mario Cristobal called Florida the most talented team,
- 28:06Speaker 1: one of the most talented teams they played last year,
- 28:09Speaker 1: and you know, they ended up winning that ball game.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Early in the season. A lot of people felt like
- 28:13Speaker 1: the team was mismanaged under Billy Napier. They got a
- 28:15Speaker 1: lot of that talent back Florida at seven and a half.
- 28:19Speaker 6: Yeah, So the tricky thing about Dolwin Jake is the
- 28:23Speaker 6: over is plus one thirty five, the under is minus
- 28:27Speaker 6: one seventy five. Right, tells you the oddsmakers take more
- 28:33Speaker 6: towards the under. Right, they're giving you moments for them
- 28:36Speaker 6: to win eight games, you're getting plus money. Uh So
- 28:39Speaker 6: I don't like laying one seventy five. You know, I'm
- 28:44Speaker 6: not a big fan. That's almost too to win one,
- 28:47Speaker 6: you gotta lay put up one seventy five to win
- 28:49Speaker 6: one hundred. I'm not a big fan of that. I
- 28:51Speaker 6: would rather go the over, uh and get the plus
- 28:55Speaker 6: money and something else. I want to let your listeners know.
- 28:58Speaker 6: You know, when you've got a team total, you get
- 29:02Speaker 6: an opportunity to hedge when they get next to that number.
- 29:06Speaker 1: You know what I mean, Jake, play that out there everybody,
- 29:09Speaker 1: so don't know what you're talking about.
- 29:11Speaker 6: Okay, So all right, let's say I'm gonna go over right,
- 29:16Speaker 6: I'm gonna go over I've got over seven and a half,
- 29:19Speaker 6: and here comes the game that will giving them their
- 29:22Speaker 6: eighth win. Where now I can play the other side
- 29:26Speaker 6: and guarantee myself some money. I can get my initial
- 29:30Speaker 6: investment bet. Let's say I put up one thousand to
- 29:32Speaker 6: win thirteen hundred. Now I can put some money on
- 29:36Speaker 6: the other side of the team they're playing, and especially
- 29:39Speaker 6: if they is a favorite in that game. So now
- 29:42Speaker 6: I can take the other side plus points and possibly
- 29:46Speaker 6: middle and get them both. Now, I know I'm throwing
- 29:48Speaker 6: a lot of games jargon out there, but what I'm
- 29:51Speaker 6: getting at is if flatter was to get their eighth win.
- 29:53Speaker 6: You're gonna win your team total bet. You can now
- 29:58Speaker 6: bet the other side. They don't get the eighth win.
- 30:01Speaker 6: You make money because you've got the other side, right yeah,
- 30:05Speaker 6: if you follow.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Me, oh yeah yeah.
- 30:08Speaker 6: And if they're the favorite, you're begetting points and you
- 30:11Speaker 6: could possibly win them both Florida wins. But doesn't come
- 30:14Speaker 6: to the.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Spread, Keith. Before we let you go, we want people
- 30:17Speaker 1: to come see what's going on this weekend, Jake.
- 30:20Speaker 6: It's not just sports betting. It's sports betting at a marasta.
- 30:23Speaker 6: So then baccalaur blackjack, craps, roulette, all your favorite slot machines,
- 30:27Speaker 6: video poker, live poker right here next to the sports book.
- 30:32Speaker 6: When you come down, you've got a big thirty six
- 30:34Speaker 6: foot video wall. We'll be show in all the games
- 30:37Speaker 6: to fit on direct TV. We'll put it on one
- 30:39Speaker 6: of our TVs. And then not just preseason football, there's
- 30:43Speaker 6: Major League Baseball WNBA auto races. So if golf is so,
- 30:49Speaker 6: if there, if somebody you're looking for you want to
- 30:51Speaker 6: watch when you come down, all you gotta do is
- 30:53Speaker 6: come up and let us go. We'll find a TV
- 30:55Speaker 6: to put it off for you when you come down,
- 30:56Speaker 6: you want to get a bite to eat, Dollars has
- 30:58Speaker 6: got wings and pizza. If you want to have a
- 31:02Speaker 6: stick down all you can eat, that's the Heritage Buffet
- 31:05Speaker 6: of course. If you're looking for a nice stake, gonna

- 31:20Speaker 6: A lounge is now get top of the line beverages
- 31:24Speaker 6: and a stogy. So when you come down, all you
- 31:27Speaker 6: gotta do is come up to me, say hey, I
- 31:29Speaker 6: heard you on the radio. I heard you on Jake
- 31:31Speaker 6: Wimberley show. I'll walk into the girk A Lounge. Let
- 31:34Speaker 6: you pick out a stogy and get you a bevy
- 31:36Speaker 6: on me.

- 33:40Speaker 8: I'll tell you what it's like Christmas morning, isn't it though?
- 33:44Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 33:44Speaker 8: I woke up at three point thirty this morning and
- 33:46Speaker 8: I did go back to sleep. I was telling I said,
- 33:47Speaker 8: we get to watch football today, and it's always good
- 33:50Speaker 8: to come over here. This is a great venue, great people.
- 33:53Speaker 8: It's I'm glad that we're not rivals anymore as far
- 33:56Speaker 8: as in reagion play goes, because there was that factor.
- 33:59Speaker 8: But think of a better of a place to come
- 34:01Speaker 8: over here to play a tune up game and get ready.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Yeah, let me let me ask you about that, because
- 34:05Speaker 1: you're right, Brandon and Warren Central now not the not
- 34:08Speaker 1: the rivals that Clinton and Warren Central is or you
- 34:11Speaker 1: know with Pearl, which a lot of people don't realize.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Pearl Warren Central's a big game in a huge.
- 34:15Speaker 8: Goes back all the way to the Little Dixie days.
- 34:17Speaker 8: You know, the old timers out there listening to this,
- 34:19Speaker 8: the veterans, they know that. Just a slobbery knocker of affairs.
- 34:23Speaker 8: And then it got even more intense when when John
- 34:26Speaker 8: Perry was there in the games that we had. You know,
- 34:29Speaker 8: John Perry gave Josh Morgan one of his worst losses
- 34:32Speaker 8: of all time forty two to nothing. Really, yeah, when
- 34:34Speaker 8: Gunnar Dennis was quarterback for him, we just had a
- 34:37Speaker 8: down year and uh, they had so much you know,
- 34:40Speaker 8: John Perry had so much respect for for for Josh.
- 34:43Speaker 8: He just was dejected after the game, you know, and
- 34:45Speaker 8: like you know, he he said, this will never happen again.
- 34:48Speaker 8: And but yeah, a huge rival. We love playing Pearl.
- 34:51Speaker 8: It's you know, it's big and we like knocking them
- 34:54Speaker 8: down the level or two before y'all take care of them.
- 34:56Speaker 8: So it's always fun to play those guys.
- 34:58Speaker 1: You know, the move to six A, I think it
- 35:01Speaker 1: just fit Warrant Central, right. I mean when the whin
- 35:04Speaker 1: the state championship last year, in the class of it.
- 35:07Speaker 1: When I say it fits, that's not a knock at
- 35:08Speaker 1: Warn't Central at all. Just you know, a lot of
- 35:11Speaker 1: people had mixed feelings about the seven A classification, but
- 35:14Speaker 1: I do think it helped certain teams, Warren Central being one. Look,
- 35:17Speaker 1: I don't want to speak for Pearl, but I know
- 35:19Speaker 1: if you talk to a lot of people of Pearl,
- 35:21Speaker 1: they've said, hey, we really need to be a six
- 35:22Speaker 1: A program. There's that opinion. And it's more so because
- 35:25Speaker 1: of student population. You can speak on this with Warren
- 35:27Speaker 1: Central student population and roster size.
- 35:30Speaker 8: Yeah, student population, we've seen a you know a lot
- 35:33Speaker 8: of kids leaving the Vicksburg Warren School district go in
- 35:36Speaker 8: other places for various reasons. We do have two academies
- 35:39Speaker 8: in in uh Vigsburg. And then we've seen, you know
- 35:43Speaker 8: a lot of parents worked for the Army Corps engineers
- 35:46Speaker 8: and ERNIC and Ergon and other places like that, and
- 35:48Speaker 8: they're electing to be closer to the metro area and
- 35:51Speaker 8: they've moved their kids. So we've seen a pretty drastic
- 35:54Speaker 8: or you know, a trend line of a population of
- 35:57Speaker 8: our students go down for us at Warren't Central. I'll
- 35:59Speaker 8: be honest with you, we were disappointed that we were
- 36:01Speaker 8: not in seven A. We wanted to play at the
- 36:04Speaker 8: highest level. Josh never wants to back down. If you
- 36:06Speaker 8: look at our schedule or a non region schedule. We
- 36:09Speaker 8: played Vicksburg because it's a local rivalry, obviously, but everyone
- 36:12Speaker 8: else is all seven eight programs, and we want to
- 36:15Speaker 8: play at the highest level to get you ready. And
- 36:16Speaker 8: we saw the benefits of that last year. As we know,
- 36:19Speaker 8: we had a great season in region play and then
- 36:22Speaker 8: we were able to just cruise through the playoffs other
- 36:25Speaker 8: than that tight game against Ridgeland, but we felt like
- 36:28Speaker 8: that playing the tough non region schedule that we had
- 36:31Speaker 8: got us ready for a team like Hattisburg in a
- 36:33Speaker 8: four quarter grind. So but it was a blessing. You know,
- 36:36Speaker 8: It's helped us in all sports. It helped us in
- 36:38Speaker 8: baseball and softball, swim, you know, so many sports. From
- 36:43Speaker 8: dropping down to six eight has helped us. But when
- 36:45Speaker 8: it first happened, we were kind of disappointed.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Let's talk of Nash Morgan committed to Mississippi State. Obviously
- 36:52Speaker 1: Misssippi State fans so obviously know that name. Cyber Morgans
- 36:56Speaker 1: have come through there. Josh was a big time player
- 36:57Speaker 1: at Missippi State in that secondary with Eugene Clinton, the
- 37:00Speaker 1: head coach here at Brandon that the two will square
- 37:04Speaker 1: off and have a little fun tonight. I remember when
- 37:06Speaker 1: Nash was a ninth grader and saw him, I believe
- 37:09Speaker 1: over in Vicksburg, and you know, you saw a guy
- 37:13Speaker 1: that was athletic, but it was coming together. But man,
- 37:16Speaker 1: when you saw him last year, what a player. Talk
- 37:18Speaker 1: a little bit about Dash Morgan.
- 37:20Speaker 8: The weight and conditioning program of spring and summer is
- 37:22Speaker 8: what did it for him. And he put on about
- 37:24Speaker 8: ten to fifteen pounds of good muscle weight and Rob
- 37:28Speaker 8: was able to Rob Morgan, the offensive coordinator. At that
- 37:30Speaker 8: point they felt good enough and that was safe enough
- 37:33Speaker 8: to run him more. And you saw what he did
- 37:35Speaker 8: last year. I mean he had fourteen hundred yards or no,
- 37:38Speaker 8: I think he had fourteen fifteen hundred yards rushing and
- 37:41Speaker 8: seventeen rushing, almost twenty touchdowns on the ground. But it
- 37:44Speaker 8: all went back to the strength conditioning program that they
- 37:48Speaker 8: had at Warren Central, which they learned when they were
- 37:50Speaker 8: at Missippi State. They created something called Iron Vikings and
- 37:54Speaker 8: all and it was based strictly off of what they
- 37:57Speaker 8: had the Iron Dog. You remember the Iron Dog from
- 37:59Speaker 8: back in the day at Misippi State.
- 38:00Speaker 1: They used to do the poster with all of the
- 38:02Speaker 1: lightpole and light pole and the chains and all that.
- 38:04Speaker 8: And Josh Josh developed that program off of what they
- 38:07Speaker 8: went through and start Bull and it has played dividends
- 38:10Speaker 8: for us. And you know, the we had our conditioning
- 38:13Speaker 8: task the other day. I think they run twelve twelve
- 38:16Speaker 8: one hundreds and gassers and they've got maybe, yes, twelve
- 38:19Speaker 8: they have to run in just a short period of time,
- 38:21Speaker 8: and everyone passed, even the lineman, which is pretty remarkable.
- 38:25Speaker 8: Normally we have kids that fail and have to retake it.
- 38:28Speaker 8: So the stream of conditioning is what's really set us apart,
- 38:31Speaker 8: I feel, and that's what's helping Nash. You'll watch him
- 38:33Speaker 8: tonight and his this look at his legs like you
- 38:36Speaker 8: got tree trunks down there and you need that to
- 38:39Speaker 8: play in this type of game.
- 38:40Speaker 1: There's no doubt about it. Of course. So we got
- 38:42Speaker 1: about two minutes left here. Brandon Davis play by play boys,
- 38:44Speaker 1: Warren Central not sneaking up on anybody this year.
- 38:47Speaker 8: You are the hundred, hey, and we're not gonna like that.
- 38:50Speaker 8: I mean, we prefer to be the underdog. And that's
- 38:53Speaker 8: always what Josh said. And you'll ask him even going
- 38:57Speaker 8: into the state championship game and I was interviewed him
- 38:59Speaker 8: about very things. He's like, you know, we're just not
- 39:02Speaker 8: that good of a ball program. Like come on, coach,
- 39:04Speaker 8: give me something here. You can't say that now, very modest. So, yeah,
- 39:07Speaker 8: it's gonna be interesting this it's a different dynamic.
- 39:10Speaker 1: You're right.
- 39:10Speaker 8: How are the coaches gonna be able to handle that?
- 39:12Speaker 8: The expectations and then keeping the emotions of the kids
- 39:15Speaker 8: down knowing that you are the state champions but everybody,
- 39:17Speaker 8: You're right, it's gonna be looking at you on Friday nights.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Well, brother, we appreciate you, wish you the best, the
- 39:22Speaker 1: Vikings the best this season. Is great to see you today.
- 39:25Speaker 8: Hey, I'm looking forward to it.
- 39:26Speaker 1: It's gonna be fun. It's gonna be fun. Brandon Davis
- 39:28Speaker 1: on your radio as we get ready to put a
- 39:30Speaker 1: bow on it here on a Friday, I want to
- 39:32Speaker 1: say thanks to Keith Hardy, thanks to Heath Hton, Thanks
- 39:35Speaker 1: to Brandon Davis, Thanks to Be, Thanks to you guys
- 39:36Speaker 1: out there. We're out of here a little early on
- 39:38Speaker 1: a Friday. I hope you have a great weekend. If
- 39:40Speaker 1: you head it out to a ball game, there should
- 39:41Speaker 1: be some good ones in the m Ais tonight, some
- 39:43Speaker 1: good scrimmages around the MHSA. Take some water, wear some shorts.
- 39:47Speaker 1: It's cool out there. Remember catch up as king Bacon's
- 39:49Speaker 1: a delicacy. Aloha means goodbye. Be a man of increase.
- 39:53Speaker 1: We have reached the criscendo on a Friday. God willing
- 39:55Speaker 1: in the creek, don't rise. We'll see Monday tonight.
