- 1:02Speaker 4: That time of the week, Jeff Lakewell ESPN dot Com
- 1:05Speaker 4: is with us at the beautiful tent.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Do you feel Is it warm and inviting?
- 1:10Speaker 3: That's extravagant.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Yeah, that's why I thought tent is nicer than any
- 1:15Speaker 2: room in my house.
- 1:16Speaker 3: I guess I should say I am only sixty percent
- 1:18Speaker 3: that b.
- 1:21Speaker 2: HF.
- 1:21Speaker 5: Here we are a week in a camp.
- 1:22Speaker 4: I know you second, Oh yeah, second, because there's two
- 1:25Speaker 4: things here Texas, says lebron James. DNA results came back.
- 1:28Speaker 4: Turns out he's one hundred percent. He him from Dwayne Wade. Also,
- 1:33Speaker 4: I love about this tent. I don't know if you notice,
- 1:38Speaker 4: in case you get confused, this is the exit.
- 1:42Speaker 2: No, and I'm glad they have a sign.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Because I was gonna head the other way.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, exactly right. But yes, Leggy, this is I
- 1:49Speaker 2: asked you before.
- 1:50Speaker 3: This is that's when they have a little sign on
- 1:53Speaker 3: the mower. Do not pick up.
- 1:55Speaker 5: Exactly what the sign is there because people have picked up.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Well that's why.
- 2:01Speaker 4: This is your thirty eight of you covering NFL camps. Yes,
- 2:05Speaker 4: and this one feels like in the years you've done
- 2:08Speaker 4: Broncos camps, probably the most different as far as where
- 2:12Speaker 4: they're at as a franchise and kind of the direction
- 2:14Speaker 4: they're going.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Yeah, a little bit, you know, there's a I think
- 2:18Speaker 3: they're a little better roster. But it has a little
- 2:22Speaker 3: of the vibe of like nine, almost the new beginning
- 2:26Speaker 3: type thing, just because of the quarterback situation and he's
- 2:31Speaker 3: only in his second year and the new ownership and
- 2:34Speaker 3: still pretty new ownership. So yeah, it's it is a
- 2:38Speaker 3: different vibe compared to so many years when you knew
- 2:42Speaker 3: they were probably gonna win between nine and eleven games,
- 2:45Speaker 3: and you knew who the quarterback was, and you knew,
- 2:49Speaker 3: you know, they had like star power. And I'm still
- 2:52Speaker 3: not positive where this star power is on this team
- 2:54Speaker 3: other than certain And you know, I think sometimes, you know,
- 3:01Speaker 3: unless it's a pass rusher, I'm not always sure teams
- 3:05Speaker 3: would have that defensive star power. You know, maybe ray
- 3:08Speaker 3: Lewis back in the Ravens, Aaron Donald, you know that
- 3:12Speaker 3: type of thing.
- 3:12Speaker 2: There's just not a whole lot of that out here, Jeff.
- 3:14Speaker 5: And maybe maybe that's why I'm not saying it's boring,
- 3:17Speaker 5: because they're putting in their work.
- 3:18Speaker 3: You're always bored, that's true. I mean, I think people
- 3:21Speaker 3: should know how quickly you told me you were bored
- 3:25Speaker 3: in this camp.
- 3:26Speaker 6: I think six minutes in it was like day to day.
- 3:29Speaker 6: On six minutes you walked up to me and you said,
- 3:32Speaker 6: I'm bored. I don't I don't know what to tell
- 3:36Speaker 6: you in that moment, because.
- 3:38Speaker 5: You get into the minutia of stuff and I want
- 3:41Speaker 5: about like a cat with a bally yarn pretty much,
- 3:44Speaker 5: you really don't like you were done with camp.
- 3:48Speaker 3: They weren't even done stretching yet, absolutely that he was
- 3:51Speaker 3: so done.
- 3:52Speaker 5: With it was five minutes into into punt coverage and
- 3:55Speaker 5: I'm like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 3:56Speaker 3: I know they're not like you know, it's not nice
- 3:59Speaker 3: and cool at the rink and they don't have six
- 4:01Speaker 3: color jerseys on so you can tell who's on everybody's
- 4:05Speaker 3: line and everything.
- 4:06Speaker 5: Yeah, but it's a little bit to.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Do a little work out here and I'll just color
- 4:10Speaker 3: coded for you.
- 4:13Speaker 5: When you you're be trusted. Absolutely, I own that. Believe me.
- 4:17Speaker 5: I own that. You get to you get to a
- 4:20Speaker 5: point though, and I'm I'm at that point. I guess
- 4:21Speaker 5: it was day one, but I don't want preseason football.
- 4:23Speaker 5: I'm like, I'm like Brett here, you know, we're ten
- 4:26Speaker 5: days away from that where guys are actually gonna knock
- 4:29Speaker 5: each other down and make tackles. Yeah, I'm talking about
- 4:33Speaker 5: Broncos there.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Well, and those starters are playing for the Chicago Bears, forgotten.
- 4:36Speaker 3: I think tonight's always funny the Hall of Fame game.
- 4:38Speaker 3: Having covered a bunch and bent, I think it's everybody's
- 4:41Speaker 3: so far all right and football and then like two
- 4:44Speaker 3: minutes into the game, you're like, Okay.
- 4:46Speaker 4: You know what, though, I told moj I can't tell
- 4:49Speaker 4: you how excited I am for the kickoff the initials.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I just want to see what it looks like.
- 4:55Speaker 3: That's one of the coolest things they've tried in a
- 4:58Speaker 3: long time. I in terms of rules, Yeah, but usually
- 5:02Speaker 3: they they're so careful and there they tiptoe so much.
- 5:07Speaker 3: They don't want to get too far out of the box.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Now this time, they're really trying something. And I think
- 5:13Speaker 3: we'll see some cool plays this year.
- 5:15Speaker 5: I hope so lot. And I think that the special
- 5:17Speaker 5: teams coordinators and the teams that put it together or
- 5:21Speaker 5: figure out a little wrinkle in the early going, everybody's gonna.
- 5:24Speaker 3: If there's a reason we haven't seen much of it, right,
- 5:27Speaker 3: they're keeping their wrinkles under. I think I think you
- 5:29Speaker 3: have to lock in key.
- 5:31Speaker 5: I think you have to do that because so.
- 5:32Speaker 3: We may not see much in the preseason in that regard.
- 5:35Speaker 3: I think a lot of teams.
- 5:36Speaker 5: Are gonna me just just boot it through the end zone.
- 5:38Speaker 3: And I think the preseason people are gonna try to
- 5:40Speaker 3: find out, Okay, what two returners are we putting in
- 5:43Speaker 3: the return box? Because you gotta have guys suddenly you
- 5:47Speaker 3: need almost like punt catchers, guys who can handle the
- 5:51Speaker 3: line drive, guys who can handle the bouncing ball. And
- 5:55Speaker 3: you know, in a bad weather day, I can't even imagine.
- 5:57Speaker 5: What you're going to have. Some people are gonna be
- 6:00Speaker 5: a head of the curve. Some some teams are somebody early.
- 6:02Speaker 3: They're going to come up with some stuff, and it's
- 6:03Speaker 3: gonna be pretty cool.
- 6:04Speaker 5: It will be pretty cool. But I you know, I
- 6:06Speaker 5: want to get the preseason football and I want to
- 6:08Speaker 5: I want to get after it, and I want to see,
- 6:11Speaker 5: like your the story of your article here that the
- 6:13Speaker 5: subject Attrick Estimate. I want to see what the rookie
- 6:15Speaker 5: can do. Was it was that your first time sitting
- 6:18Speaker 5: down with him, really talking to him.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Nah, I had a chance at the combine a little bit,
- 6:22Speaker 3: okay because I got him in. Uh. There's a it's
- 6:27Speaker 3: benefits of age, I guess. But there's a there's a
- 6:29Speaker 3: little hallway you can hang out and and sometimes you
- 6:31Speaker 3: can get some of the players without all the hubbub.
- 6:34Speaker 5: I've seen the the the back seat, behind the scenes
- 6:39Speaker 5: version of Vic talking to Doddrick Estimate, and I really
- 6:42Speaker 5: like him.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Oh, he's I think he's I mean, he is a
- 6:45Speaker 3: His story is pretty cool.
- 6:47Speaker 5: He's got a cool story.
- 6:48Speaker 3: He seems like a great He might really we don't
- 6:51Speaker 3: want to say it, but he might really be the
- 6:53Speaker 3: impact rookie. Yeah, in terms of just a media right,
- 6:57Speaker 3: because he's ready to go now. He he almost killed
- 7:02Speaker 3: a safety the other day and it was awesome.
- 7:04Speaker 5: Absolutely awesome.
- 7:06Speaker 4: That was one of those I don't know if you're
- 7:08Speaker 4: if you're a big baseball guy, there was a fight
- 7:10Speaker 4: between Jose Batista and Rodde and o'dor back in the day.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Yeah, and a second base right, yes, yeah.
- 7:15Speaker 4: And that was Bautista thinking they were fake fighting. Yeah,
- 7:19Speaker 4: and then he got hit in the mouth yt. I
- 7:21Speaker 4: think that was it Omar what's his name? The safety?
- 7:24Speaker 4: You got popped Omar something. He thought they were fake hitting,
- 7:27Speaker 4: and estimately goes, no, no.
- 7:29Speaker 5: We're going to hit.
- 7:30Speaker 3: That's a get off the track. Here comes to the train.
- 7:32Speaker 4: He is sort of thing, one of the most massive
- 7:35Speaker 4: individuals I've ever seen in my life.
- 7:36Speaker 3: You know, I put it in my story, but I
- 7:38Speaker 3: found it unbelievable that last year he rushed for what
- 7:43Speaker 3: thirteen hundred and change and sixty percent of his rushing
- 7:48Speaker 3: yards were after contact.
- 7:50Speaker 5: That's coral.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Think about that. That's like eight hundred some yards after contact.
- 7:55Speaker 5: Well, you know why Sean Pete wanted to draft him.
- 7:57Speaker 5: And every time Sean Peyton talks about.
- 7:59Speaker 3: Him, the only guy he's complimented, really, he really other
- 8:03Speaker 3: than Nicks correct, I mean, but he very complimentary of both.
- 8:06Speaker 3: All the other quarterbacks are just okay. And I liked
- 8:09Speaker 3: him really good.
- 8:10Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly about him.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Yeah, but he even asked him. I asked him about him,
- 8:15Speaker 3: and he was like, oh, we we wanted this guy
- 8:17Speaker 3: from the you know, top of the class, top of
- 8:20Speaker 3: the class, top of the class.
- 8:21Speaker 5: As soon as you you're in.
- 8:23Speaker 3: That's so fell running back. If you're building maybe maybe
- 8:27Speaker 3: a two thousand and five NFL running back, but if
- 8:30Speaker 3: you're serious about running the ball. And this team only
- 8:33Speaker 3: had eight rushing touchdowns last year, I think I think
- 8:37Speaker 3: that's his role.
- 8:38Speaker 7: But yeah, the thing is is, even when Peyton talks
- 8:40Speaker 7: about him, he talks about, you know, why they selected him,
- 8:44Speaker 7: and it's olvery thought out, but he was topping this
- 8:47Speaker 7: and top of that and top and so on.
- 8:49Speaker 3: And I know we don't value all the categories. Motion
- 8:51Speaker 3: are basically running over guys categories.
- 8:54Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I know we don't value running backs in
- 8:56Speaker 5: this league the way we used to, but I think
- 8:58Speaker 5: it's okay to get excited about a kid like this.
- 9:01Speaker 5: I I'm really, I'm and watching his teammates talk about
- 9:05Speaker 5: him already, and he's got that jam and he get
- 9:06Speaker 5: tote that rock, and I thought it was just really cool.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Man.
- 9:09Speaker 5: It was. It was a good article as always, but
- 9:11Speaker 5: I think the fans are going to like him. He's
- 9:13Speaker 5: a thoughtful young man. His background is amazing. He played lacrosse,
- 9:20Speaker 5: and he played soccer, and he he played a lot
- 9:23Speaker 5: of different sports. He's a well rounded individual, you know,
- 9:25Speaker 5: at such a young age, he's so composed.
- 9:27Speaker 3: I coached baseball a long time, and people used to
- 9:32Speaker 3: get mad at me when I would. I would lobby
- 9:35Speaker 3: for players I coach play sports, and there's just this
- 9:39Speaker 3: tug now in youth sports that I hate to focus. Focus, focus,
- 9:45Speaker 3: pick one, only do one, you know, come to our
- 9:48Speaker 3: camps and pay your money and all this stuff. And
- 9:51Speaker 3: it drives me nuts because I've been doing this my
- 9:54Speaker 3: whole adult life, and every year I walked through an
- 9:58Speaker 3: NFL locker room full of multi sport athletes and I'm
- 10:02Speaker 3: not saying you're gonna make the NFL, but I am
- 10:04Speaker 3: saying this team, like all NFL teams, is loaded with
- 10:09Speaker 3: multi sport athletes because it's better for kids. And you know,
- 10:15Speaker 3: well Courton played hoops. It I'm telling you it. I'm
- 10:18Speaker 3: just telling you it's a given. And I used to
- 10:21Speaker 3: have this argument so many times because you hear so
- 10:23Speaker 3: many people said, Oh, you got to you got to
- 10:24Speaker 3: pick one. No, you don't have to pick one. No
- 10:26Speaker 3: you don't, because essentially ninety eight percent of us aren't
- 10:30Speaker 3: going pro in squat. But the guys you do if
- 10:33Speaker 3: in the greatest successes are multi sport athletes. But the
- 10:38Speaker 3: probably the best lacrosse players in the room are Estime
- 10:41Speaker 3: and Bulls Bowls was like a spectacular lacrosse player when
- 10:45Speaker 3: he was younger.
- 10:46Speaker 4: Can I ask you something about that, as we're on
- 10:47Speaker 4: the subject of running backs, notric estime is There was
- 10:50Speaker 4: a story that came out this from Rob Demofski in
- 10:53Speaker 4: Green Bay.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Rob is a great reporter.
- 10:55Speaker 4: And he said that there's multiple suitors, as you would
- 10:58Speaker 4: expect for Josh Jacobs before they signed him to Green Bay,
- 11:02Speaker 4: and that the Broncos were one of them.
- 11:03Speaker 2: No, I didn't mention the Broncos specifically.
- 11:05Speaker 4: What Jacob said was, I took less money to come
- 11:08Speaker 4: here because I didn't want to be in a rebuilding situation.
- 11:11Speaker 4: But if the Broncos were interested in the first place
- 11:14Speaker 4: for a high priced running back, it tells me that
- 11:18Speaker 4: they're gonna put a real focus on running the football
- 11:21Speaker 4: this year, which wasn't there last year.
- 11:23Speaker 3: I've said, it's interesting to me that. I mean, Sean
- 11:27Speaker 3: Payton said all of last season, got to run the
- 11:29Speaker 3: ball better, got to run the ball better, gotta be
- 11:30Speaker 3: more efficient, got to do it. And he's the guy
- 11:33Speaker 3: with the play sheet. Yeah, and they didn't call him yep, right,
- 11:36Speaker 3: so especially in a red zone, they did not call
- 11:39Speaker 3: runs in the red zone. And maybe he just felt
- 11:41Speaker 3: like they couldn't do it. Maybe, so maybe that was it.
- 11:45Speaker 3: But a lot of it is on him. But they've
- 11:47Speaker 3: they've certainly positioned themselves to now we're not talking run
- 11:52Speaker 3: first nineteen ninety eight offense. We're talking in this league now,
- 11:58Speaker 3: when you're facing nickel defense, can run the ball, You're
- 12:01Speaker 3: gonna make some You're gonna make some quality yardage when
- 12:04Speaker 3: you need to. Because it's just a lighter defensive formation.
- 12:09Speaker 3: You're you're facing which.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Team has like the ideal mix run pass. You think,
- 12:13Speaker 2: who does?
- 12:13Speaker 3: I think all of the most people in the league
- 12:16Speaker 3: I know are looking to teams that use the the shanny,
- 12:21Speaker 3: you know, Mike's you know, some offshoot of MIC's off
- 12:25Speaker 3: You know, the Dolphins had a thousand yard rusher, the
- 12:27Speaker 3: Niners have McCaffrey. The Chiefs ran the ball a ton
- 12:31Speaker 3: last year. In fact, when when things weren't going well
- 12:34Speaker 3: at receiver. I don't think people noticed how many times
- 12:38Speaker 3: the Chiefs were in two and three tight end formations
- 12:42Speaker 3: even though they have Mahomes yep, Because again, you're you're
- 12:45Speaker 3: facing defenses now where the linebackers are two hundred and
- 12:48Speaker 3: twenty eight pounds, they're not too forty anymore. The safeties
- 12:52Speaker 3: are really big corners now, and you're playing nickel defense
- 12:55Speaker 3: as seventy percent of the snaps. So if you can
- 12:57Speaker 3: run the ball when you want to, not all the time,
- 13:01Speaker 3: but when you want to, you're gonna you're gonna convert
- 13:03Speaker 3: first downs and you're gonna score. And this team I
- 13:07Speaker 3: still watch practice. You know, they don't have a long
- 13:11Speaker 3: list of finishers right now in the red zone, and
- 13:14Speaker 3: so they may have to pound it in unless things
- 13:17Speaker 3: developed that we haven't seen yet in terms of who's
- 13:20Speaker 3: gonna make those matchup plays.
- 13:22Speaker 2: And I'm hopeful of it, but again, I got to
- 13:25Speaker 2: see it to believe it.
- 13:25Speaker 5: I'm not.
- 13:26Speaker 3: He's got to call him, you know, that's what. Yeah,
- 13:29Speaker 3: But I mean they when the Saints were at their
- 13:31Speaker 3: very best and Breeze was thrown for four thousand and uh,
- 13:34Speaker 3: they ran the ball on the kamor tomorrow. Those guys
- 13:38Speaker 3: they had a role in the offense. Yeah.
- 13:41Speaker 5: He Uh, I don't know what his future was going
- 13:44Speaker 5: to be with the Broncos anyway, but I feel bad
- 13:46Speaker 5: for Quinn Bailey.
- 13:48Speaker 3: But that's a big that's a big injury none of
- 13:50Speaker 3: us are going to talk about because he was that.
- 13:52Speaker 3: He was the top swing tackle.
- 13:54Speaker 2: That's what I don't want.
- 13:55Speaker 3: He was also there. Uh you know a lot of
- 14:00Speaker 3: the reasons they didn't you know, sign a big, physical
- 14:05Speaker 3: tight end and free agency is because they wanted Quinn
- 14:08Speaker 3: Bailey to play that.
- 14:09Speaker 5: He's a big six to six guy. But a broken
- 14:11Speaker 5: ankle for an offensive lineman, Jeff, that's just got leave man,
- 14:15Speaker 5: those guys trenches.
- 14:16Speaker 3: It was pretty gruesome. Yeah, it was not just a Hey,
- 14:22Speaker 3: he fractured his ankle. It was pretty gruesome and I felt,
- 14:26Speaker 3: I'm not sure many guys on this team, you know,
- 14:30Speaker 3: work harder than he has over the years. I man,
- 14:33Speaker 3: when he got here, it was just a not just
- 14:35Speaker 3: but he was an undrafted rookie. He spent most of
- 14:39Speaker 3: his rookie year on the practice squad all but one game,
- 14:41Speaker 3: and he just kept showing up and putting in the work,
- 14:44Speaker 3: and pretty soon he was the top reserve tackle. Uh,
- 14:49Speaker 3: and he was really the you know, he's he's done
- 14:52Speaker 3: most of his work at right tackle in this camp,
- 14:55Speaker 3: but he he also lined up at both guard spots
- 14:57Speaker 3: and he could play left tackle if they needed him to,
- 15:00Speaker 3: So that is not a insignificant they do. That's that's
- 15:05Speaker 3: I think you will see a tackle in here after
- 15:07Speaker 3: the cuts to fifty three. Uh, you know, they got it.
- 15:11Speaker 3: They like Paul Chesky, who was on the i R
- 15:14Speaker 3: for most of last year as an undrafted rookie, but uh,
- 15:18Speaker 3: he's had some injury history.
- 15:20Speaker 2: Uh.
- 15:21Speaker 3: You know, they signed Pert Matt Pert in the off season.
- 15:24Speaker 3: He's got NFL experience, not many games, but he's been
- 15:27Speaker 3: around the Giants for a while, so those would be
- 15:30Speaker 3: the top two probably right now, but I would guess
- 15:33Speaker 3: that's one position they'll be looking at hard after the
- 15:36Speaker 3: cut to fifty.
- 15:37Speaker 2: I hate camp casualties though. I just hate it, you know.
- 15:39Speaker 5: And again you talk about well he's a reserve tackle
- 15:42Speaker 5: but that I mean just he was the but but
- 15:45Speaker 5: it takes away your depth, big time man.
- 15:47Speaker 3: And Peyton called him lineman six yesterday, So that's what
- 15:52Speaker 3: they need to know. You know.
- 15:54Speaker 4: One other question I had is what do you see
- 15:56Speaker 4: happening the corner spot opposite of Certan because you got
- 16:00Speaker 4: you got McMillian.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Right now, you know, they Levi Wallace and Riley Moss
- 16:07Speaker 3: recently have taken most of the They've split most of
- 16:10Speaker 3: the snaps with the starters. Tomory Mathis has had a
- 16:14Speaker 3: few snaps at times with the starters, but the last
- 16:16Speaker 3: few days it's been mostly Wallace or Moss, So I
- 16:19Speaker 3: think it will be one of those two.
- 16:21Speaker 4: Has math has been scarred a bit with his start
- 16:23Speaker 4: to last year and going to the bench, Yeah, I.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Mean he's been much better in this camp.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Well, is he scored or was the coaching staff scarred
- 16:30Speaker 2: on him a little bit?
- 16:31Speaker 3: No, you've got to work your way out of that
- 16:33Speaker 3: once you've been. But you know what helps him as
- 16:37Speaker 3: the same coordinator who made the decision is still on duty,
- 16:40Speaker 3: so he can see how you're doing. And they like
- 16:43Speaker 3: him as a player overall, just because he's got sort
- 16:47Speaker 3: of rare length for a corner. But right now, I
- 16:50Speaker 3: think ultimately they'd like to see Moss in there because
- 16:54Speaker 3: of the athleticism and the size. That would give them
- 16:58Speaker 3: probably the biggest corner tandem in the league, if if,
- 17:01Speaker 3: if it was Moss.
- 17:02Speaker 4: Another one that I think is an interesting spot because
- 17:06Speaker 4: you have I think a whole bunch of solid players
- 17:08Speaker 4: and maybe no stars. And that's a lot of places
- 17:10Speaker 4: actually on this team, but wide receivers interesting because you
- 17:14Speaker 4: have Courtland Sutton and you have Tim Patrick coming back.
- 17:16Speaker 4: He signed Josh Reynolds in the offseason at Troy Franklin. Like,
- 17:19Speaker 4: first of all, if you had to guess right now,
- 17:21Speaker 4: and you know it's super early, how many spots do
- 17:23Speaker 4: you think they keep the white out and who are they?
- 17:26Speaker 3: Well, I you know, I think they may be forced
- 17:29Speaker 3: to keep an extra one or two extra end quotes
- 17:33Speaker 3: because they kept five last year. Yeah, you can get
- 17:35Speaker 3: to five pretty fast. Some of it may be who
- 17:38Speaker 3: are the two you know, you gotta have two returners
- 17:40Speaker 3: now and kickoffs.
- 17:41Speaker 5: So that's not Tim Patrick's who are.
- 17:43Speaker 3: The two returners? Maybe that factors, and but if you
- 17:47Speaker 3: keep six, that's gonna cost you a spot. And you know,
- 17:51Speaker 3: I think they're also sort of wearing the question of
- 17:54Speaker 3: you know, do you stash at QB on the practice
- 17:56Speaker 3: squad or do you keep three? Do you keep even
- 17:59Speaker 3: some teams aren't even talking about keeping two because of
- 18:02Speaker 3: the practice squad rules this year allow you to bring
- 18:04Speaker 3: the quarterback up every week if you want to, So,
- 18:08Speaker 3: uh that that's one position running back. You know, he
- 18:12Speaker 3: only kept three last year.
- 18:14Speaker 5: There's four and the other I see four.
- 18:17Speaker 3: I mean there's four getting regular work right now. But
- 18:20Speaker 3: they only kept three last year. So you know, I
- 18:22Speaker 3: think ultimately as things progress, you know, running back, you know,
- 18:27Speaker 3: p Ryan may have some trade value if they feel
- 18:30Speaker 3: like doing that as they get deeper or you know,
- 18:32Speaker 3: whoever that they think the odd man.
- 18:34Speaker 2: Who's going to catch the football out of the backfield.
- 18:37Speaker 3: I think Estimate can be a pretty good receiver. He
- 18:40Speaker 3: was not asked to do it much, but from what
- 18:42Speaker 3: I've seen, you know, and again I'm a little Timmy
- 18:45Speaker 3: the sports writer I get it, but uh, from what
- 18:48Speaker 3: I've seen, I think he could he could give uh
- 18:52Speaker 3: some work there and and make some things happen.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Yeah, that was the offense late in games last year
- 18:57Speaker 4: when you needed a big drive, it was just dumping
- 18:59Speaker 4: off the p Ryan five times.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Run for three, run for three. You know. But again
- 19:07Speaker 3: there's a little bit, you know, and you know, is
- 19:09Speaker 3: it a surplus because they're so talented. Probably not. It's
- 19:12Speaker 3: a surplus because they have a lot of guys at
- 19:14Speaker 3: that sort of same level. And scouting a long time,
- 19:19Speaker 3: Mike Gettings was a scout who ran a company that
- 19:23Speaker 3: almost every NFL team still uses to evaluate its own roster,
- 19:28Speaker 3: like an outside set of eyes, and Gettings in Gettings
- 19:32Speaker 3: is grading blue is the highest rated player. That's elite,
- 19:38Speaker 3: perennial pro bowler, you know, possible Hall of Famer. And
- 19:42Speaker 3: I think as you talk to gms around the league,
- 19:45Speaker 3: they think the Broncos only have one Blue player right now,
- 19:50Speaker 3: and that the really good teams in the league will
- 19:53Speaker 3: have three or four Blue players, Like when at the
- 19:57Speaker 3: height of the manning time they probably had four Blues.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Yeah on the Broncos.
- 20:02Speaker 4: Well, just real quick, we're twenty minutes in. We'll let
- 20:04Speaker 4: you go in just a second, but I can stay.
- 20:06Speaker 3: After the break if you want. But that's up to you. Guys. Yeah,
- 20:09Speaker 3: let's do that.
- 20:10Speaker 2: You want to do that motion here?
- 20:12Speaker 3: All right? No?
- 20:12Speaker 4: No, no, I want more more likely because you know
- 20:15Speaker 4: we didn't ask the first twenty minutes, was like anything
- 20:17Speaker 4: about the quarterbacks?
- 20:18Speaker 2: Yeah, like you do that. Yes, I'll do a lot
- 20:20Speaker 2: of that.
- 20:22Speaker 3: Only if doesn't speak to me.
- 20:24Speaker 5: I will I will do not.
- 20:26Speaker 2: I will not say a word more with Leggy.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Next, you've got Moser Lombardy and live from training camp
- 20:35Speaker 1: and Broncos Park on Altitude Sports Radio.
- 20:49Speaker 4: All right out here again at Broncos Park, powered by
- 20:52Speaker 4: Common Spirit, Day seven the Broncos Camp.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Thank you for sticking around, Leggy.
- 20:58Speaker 5: Yeah, Jeff, like, let's be honest about it. He's got
- 21:02Speaker 5: nowhere else to go.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Okay, right now he's going spirit, who's not.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Right, got things to do?
- 21:08Speaker 5: Okay, Jeff goes down.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Now you're going to speak to me. He goes down.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Leggy.
- 21:18Speaker 4: I want you to stick around and thank you for
- 21:20Speaker 4: doing so, because we were twenty minutes and we didn't
- 21:22Speaker 4: ask you about quarterbacks.
- 21:23Speaker 2: So let's just start here.
- 21:24Speaker 8: That was nice quarterback, Yes we did, uh bon Nicks
- 21:30Speaker 8: this early portion of camp, is he at below or
- 21:34Speaker 8: above what you expected him to be at least.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Right where he belongs. I mean that none of these guys,
- 21:41Speaker 3: unless you are just an ultimate prospect, none of these
- 21:45Speaker 3: guys are ready to play right now. The specialization the
- 21:49Speaker 3: biggest difference in the NFL is he.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Ready to play in a month? Because it's a month.
- 21:53Speaker 3: But that's the that's the issue is is you really
- 21:58Speaker 3: only have two choices. If you're Therocos, you just you
- 22:01Speaker 3: just say, Okay, he's playing, and you live with it.
- 22:04Speaker 3: You live with the growth, and you hope he can
- 22:06Speaker 3: handle it. Because they'll fail more in September than they
- 22:10Speaker 3: might have failed in their whole, entire athletic lives before that.
- 22:15Speaker 3: So you got to be you know, you gotta be
- 22:17Speaker 3: ready for that. So you just you can do that,
- 22:20Speaker 3: or you can just sit them like the Chiefs did
- 22:22Speaker 3: with Mahomes, And the only difference was is Alex Smith
- 22:26Speaker 3: essentially was the quarterback for the Chiefs and he handed
- 22:29Speaker 3: Mahomes the key to the city. He spent every waking
- 22:32Speaker 3: moment teaching Mahomes how to be an NFL quarterback. Not
- 22:37Speaker 3: every situation is like that, and the Chiefs it was.
- 22:40Speaker 3: It was the perfect storm. Yeah, and.
- 22:44Speaker 5: Old to wasn't.
- 22:45Speaker 3: But they were a draft built team. Then they're a
- 22:48Speaker 3: draft built team now they were. They had like three
- 22:51Speaker 3: offensive coaches on the staff at that time who went
- 22:54Speaker 3: on to be head coaches. I mean, they were built
- 22:56Speaker 3: for exactly what they did. I'm not sure this environ
- 23:00Speaker 3: and is the same. You know, they're competing. They didn't
- 23:04Speaker 3: do that. So you know, you can either sit him
- 23:09Speaker 3: for almost the entire year or play him right away,
- 23:12Speaker 3: and I think ultimately they will choose to play him
- 23:14Speaker 3: right away. But he he is struggling with footwork under
- 23:18Speaker 3: center because he never played there ever. So you know
- 23:22Speaker 3: when sometimes when he's coming out from under center and
- 23:25Speaker 3: they have some play action or some rollouts that the
- 23:28Speaker 3: footwork's off, he's too close to the back, you know
- 23:31Speaker 3: that's going to be a fumble in a game. I
- 23:34Speaker 3: think he struggled at times with the the fact that
- 23:38Speaker 3: that dbs are up in the receiver's business all the time,
- 23:42Speaker 3: and you know, none of the three guys competing for
- 23:44Speaker 3: the job. I think I can count on one hand
- 23:47Speaker 3: and the times they've thrown at certain you know, I mean,
- 23:52Speaker 3: so he you know, he's doing okay. But you know,
- 23:55Speaker 3: the first two days in pads, when Stidham got most
- 23:58Speaker 3: of the work with the starters, it was very clear
- 24:02Speaker 3: if you were picking a guy objectively to start the opener,
- 24:05Speaker 3: he's the guy me moves the team, they get in
- 24:08Speaker 3: out of the huddle. It's smooth. No, he's not flashy,
- 24:11Speaker 3: and you know he may have reached his ceiling as
- 24:14Speaker 3: a player. I get all of that, but I'm just
- 24:16Speaker 3: saying objectively, it's very easy to see, you know, who's
- 24:21Speaker 3: the most comfortable in the offense right now. So that
- 24:25Speaker 3: is exactly what I expected. But I ultimately believe they
- 24:29Speaker 3: would like bow Nicks to be starting against Seattle.
- 24:34Speaker 4: Just real quick, before Nelly screams at me, the winner
- 24:36Speaker 4: of the tickets for Athletic Gold over the America's Tour
- 24:41Speaker 4: is Marie Dalton.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Congratulations on those tickets. I had to do that before
- 24:47Speaker 2: Nelly yelled at me.
- 24:48Speaker 5: All right, right he In regards to that, Jeff I
- 24:51Speaker 5: said this earlier in the program, Sean Payne's not going
- 24:54Speaker 5: to do anything that he doesn't want to do or
- 24:57Speaker 5: you know it's gonna hurt his football team. Might dig that,
- 24:59Speaker 5: but he's got a vested interest in this kid succeeding, right,
- 25:04Speaker 5: He's he wants him, he needs him to be a player.
- 25:09Speaker 5: So to me, when I think about, Okay, who's gonna
- 25:11Speaker 5: start Week one, if there's any sort of like neck
- 25:15Speaker 5: and neck battle really going on, I think it's gonna
- 25:17Speaker 5: be number ten. I think it's gonna be Knicks because
- 25:20Speaker 5: it's in Peyton's interest to say, this is my hand
- 25:22Speaker 5: pick guy. I'm developing this guy. So maybe there's a
- 25:25Speaker 5: little little lean that way, because he fully admitted that
- 25:29Speaker 5: he's never been in the situation before where he's really
- 25:32Speaker 5: had to draft and develop a young guy who's actually
- 25:35Speaker 5: twenty four years old.
- 25:37Speaker 3: You know, the only real sort of football issue Sean
- 25:41Speaker 3: Payton has to worry about. He's the head coach. He
- 25:43Speaker 3: can name anybody he wants to be the quarterback at
- 25:46Speaker 3: any time he wants for any reason. He doesn't have
- 25:49Speaker 3: to explain it to anybody. He's the head coach. That's
- 25:51Speaker 3: how it works. But the only football issue is if
- 25:55Speaker 3: you let it go on too long and thinks stay
- 25:59Speaker 3: in the current form and it's very clear to the
- 26:01Speaker 3: other players that the older guy runs it better. That's
- 26:06Speaker 3: when you get an issue. So my personal belief is
- 26:09Speaker 3: is when he's when he has like some kind of
- 26:11Speaker 3: comfort level with where Nicks is, that he would make
- 26:15Speaker 3: the call. But we'll see, you know, he's he has
- 26:18Speaker 3: he has said it's a real competition, but we'll see
- 26:22Speaker 3: how that you know it really it really does mirror
- 26:27Speaker 3: in a lot of ways. Twenty sixteen, they had a
- 26:30Speaker 3: first rounder in Paxton Lynch, and they had a quarterback
- 26:32Speaker 3: they traded for, and Mark Sanchez and Trevor Simeon came
- 26:37Speaker 3: out here every day and Gary Kubiak let that one
- 26:40Speaker 3: play out. He didn't finish it early, he just let
- 26:43Speaker 3: it go. And the longer it went, it was very
- 26:46Speaker 3: clear to the players that Simeon was going to be
- 26:50Speaker 3: the starter. So that's to me, that's the only football
- 26:53Speaker 3: danger is if the locker room decides you didn't pick
- 26:56Speaker 3: the right guy. But a lot of it is how
- 26:59Speaker 3: Peyton frames it and how he structures practice, because you know,
- 27:02Speaker 3: like yesterday Stidham has two great days with the ones
- 27:07Speaker 3: and then he's suddenly with the threes. Yeah, where you're
- 27:09Speaker 3: out of sight, out of mind essentially, So there's a
- 27:13Speaker 3: lot of ways they can do it, but you know
- 27:14Speaker 3: again they they picked this guy at twelve. Uh, he's
- 27:18Speaker 3: twenty four years old. He played sixty one games in college,
- 27:22Speaker 3: which is you know, there are some covid Ton you
- 27:25Speaker 3: know that back in the day, fifty one was the record.
- 27:28Speaker 3: So that that I'll just to offer a perspective of
- 27:32Speaker 3: how many games sixty one is. So he's he's not
- 27:35Speaker 3: the usual rookie prospect.
- 27:37Speaker 2: So what does that leave Wilson.
- 27:39Speaker 3: Well, I think we've already seen he skipped him in
- 27:41Speaker 3: the rotation already a week in. So now we'll see
- 27:47Speaker 3: if he changes his mind, you know, moving forward.
- 27:49Speaker 5: Yes, if he was to the if they tried to
- 27:51Speaker 5: put him on the.
- 27:51Speaker 3: Pre he's the arm of the three though. Yeah, he's
- 27:54Speaker 3: the it really is.
- 27:55Speaker 5: If they try to stash him, wouldn't you think that
- 27:57Speaker 5: he would be signed off like that? That's not team
- 28:00Speaker 5: would say, you know what, we love his talent, but
- 28:03Speaker 5: we we need to deconstruct him a little bit. But
- 28:05Speaker 5: but he's he's only twenty four years old.
- 28:07Speaker 3: I will tell you. I'll tell you. You know, I
- 28:10Speaker 3: make a lot of mistakes every year because I think
- 28:12Speaker 3: to myself, oh that guy will get claimed and then
- 28:14Speaker 3: they don't. So I miss a lot of that because
- 28:17Speaker 3: I think there's or gms will tell me there's interest
- 28:21Speaker 3: in guys. But when it really comes time to claim
- 28:23Speaker 3: them and get rid of another guy, which is what
- 28:26Speaker 3: you have to do. You got to put them on
- 28:28Speaker 3: the active roster. If you claim them, they don't end
- 28:30Speaker 3: up doing it. So would he make it through waivers?
- 28:33Speaker 3: I don't know, but I will tell you I know
- 28:35Speaker 3: a GM who has told me many times, if it's
- 28:39Speaker 3: a top ten player in the draft, it's an instant
- 28:41Speaker 3: claim because they he thinks there's talent there. Let's see
- 28:45Speaker 3: what the deal is.
- 28:46Speaker 5: Yeah, so instant claim. That's that's interesting.
- 28:49Speaker 3: If it's a top ten player, it's a top ten player,
- 28:53Speaker 3: it's an and now you know it's a top ten
- 28:55Speaker 3: player from his boards. However that works. That's so you
- 28:58Speaker 3: don't know, but we'll Wilson was the second pick of
- 29:01Speaker 3: a draft, so I would think somebody had them in
- 29:05Speaker 3: the top ten, had them in the top ten on
- 29:07Speaker 3: their board.
- 29:08Speaker 5: You don't know.
- 29:08Speaker 4: Us I was thinking was as we headed into this
- 29:10Speaker 4: year with I guess tempered expectations for the Broncos, one
- 29:15Speaker 4: thing always seemed to be somewhat of a given that
- 29:17Speaker 4: the defense was going to play well like that seemed
- 29:20Speaker 4: to be the theme, and it was always the question
- 29:22Speaker 4: of how far can the offense go?
- 29:24Speaker 3: I think they're far more settled on defense.
- 29:26Speaker 2: Well, what I was gonna ask was.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Is it the same way even losing Justin Simmons, question
- 29:33Speaker 4: market the second cornerback spot, losing Josie Jewel, Do you
- 29:37Speaker 4: think that the defense is still okay heading into this
- 29:39Speaker 4: year or do they have their own questions?
- 29:41Speaker 3: I think Simmons is a big loss, and I'm not
- 29:43Speaker 3: sure they really had to do it in my mind,
- 29:45Speaker 3: but that's it. Didn't ask me. But you know, I
- 29:50Speaker 3: think they feel like athletically they'll be better at linebacker now.
- 29:54Speaker 3: Production wise, it's hard to argue with one hundred tackles.
- 29:58Speaker 5: Yep.
- 29:58Speaker 3: You know, at any point, you know, Josie was Josie
- 30:03Speaker 3: didn't make mental errors. He was always where he should be.
- 30:06Speaker 3: You know, Yes, teams got him locked up on a
- 30:09Speaker 3: tight end from time to time, but that's gonna happen
- 30:11Speaker 3: to you. I don't care who you are, They're gonna
- 30:12Speaker 3: find you at some point. So that that's the one
- 30:16Speaker 3: I went. But they're much better in the defensive line
- 30:19Speaker 3: in my mind, so that helps whatever happens at linebacker
- 30:22Speaker 3: for sure, and the other cornerback spot, whoever they pick,
- 30:26Speaker 3: I think will play, you know, better than Moreau. I
- 30:29Speaker 3: guess that's where I come down on it. And they,
- 30:32Speaker 3: you know, it's easy forget because last year was so
- 30:35Speaker 3: kind of weird, and you know, Wilson gets benched at
- 30:38Speaker 3: the end of the year, but there was an eight
- 30:40Speaker 3: week span, not two weeks, not three weeks, but eight
- 30:43Speaker 3: weeks or this defense, after giving up seventy in Miami,
- 30:48Speaker 3: was the best scoring defense in the league until Detroit.
- 30:53Speaker 3: And then the Detroit game comes and they can't They
- 30:55Speaker 3: sort of can't hold it because offense has sort of
- 30:58Speaker 3: found Moreau at that point, and they couldn't stop the
- 31:01Speaker 3: run when they had to, which is why that, you know,
- 31:05Speaker 3: John Franklin Myers is really maybe their best offseason pick up.
- 31:08Speaker 3: Nobody says much about.
- 31:10Speaker 5: Why am I so worried about the LA Chargers?
- 31:13Speaker 3: You should be harball, Okay, these guys.
- 31:16Speaker 5: Tell me, these guys, tell me stop worrying about them.
- 31:19Speaker 5: The Broncos will be neck and neck with those guys.
- 31:21Speaker 5: And I'm like, no, no, no, what did you say
- 31:23Speaker 5: I said to you that I said, don't worry about them,
- 31:26Speaker 5: because it's not you weren't going to be competitive with
- 31:28Speaker 5: them this year anyway.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Okay, that's all.
- 31:29Speaker 5: I I'm afraid, Jeff in three four years that the
- 31:33Speaker 5: Broncos are still going to be the third worst team
- 31:35Speaker 5: in the division because as long as the Witches there
- 31:38Speaker 5: in Kansas.
- 31:38Speaker 3: City, this is the this is Bronco karma, this is
- 31:43Speaker 3: for the twenty five years yet is that what it was? Ning?
- 31:47Speaker 3: And now you get to live the life on the
- 31:50Speaker 3: other side.
- 31:51Speaker 5: I was watching Sunday morning halftime with the USA basketball game.
- 31:54Speaker 5: I'm flicked over the NFL network and they're live at
- 31:57Speaker 5: Chargers camp, right and they've got hardball micd up. But
- 31:59Speaker 5: he's he's he's like having.
- 32:01Speaker 3: Felt they'll play differently with him.
- 32:03Speaker 5: Yeah, it seems like he's having Those guys are enjoying
- 32:07Speaker 5: the Chargers football.
- 32:08Speaker 3: Now. Well, I think a lot of people in the league,
- 32:11Speaker 3: coaches I would talk to, always felt like if you
- 32:14Speaker 3: just hung in long enough against the Chargers, they'd do
- 32:17Speaker 3: you a favor. At some point. Well, they certainly did.
- 32:20Speaker 3: They're not going to be that way anymore because if
- 32:23Speaker 3: whatever you think of Harbaugh as a coach, his teams
- 32:26Speaker 3: don't do those sorts of things. Yeah, and you know,
- 32:29Speaker 3: he was at Michigan a while, so people may have
- 32:32Speaker 3: forgotten that they played a physical, tough brand of ball.
- 32:37Speaker 3: And in San Francisco he was coaching there, and they
- 32:40Speaker 3: want a hell of a lot of games. And if
- 32:44Speaker 3: Herbert listens to him and he Herbert plays the way
- 32:48Speaker 3: Harball will want him to, they'll be much better. You know,
- 32:51Speaker 3: a lot of it is just how Harbaugh and Herbert
- 32:54Speaker 3: come to an agreement, Like Herbert isn't going to have
- 32:57Speaker 3: this carte blanche, you know, just run around and save
- 33:00Speaker 3: us thing anymore that he's had the last couple of years,
- 33:03Speaker 3: which isn't It's great for your numbers, and it's great
- 33:06Speaker 3: for social media all. Look at the throw he made
- 33:09Speaker 3: off balance running you know, that's all great for that,
- 33:13Speaker 3: but it ain't great for winning. And so if he'll play,
- 33:16Speaker 3: they'll be better if they play the way he wants
- 33:18Speaker 3: them to.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Harbaugh is exceptional finding great assistant couches too. I saw
- 33:24Speaker 2: that all when he was at Michigan.
- 33:25Speaker 4: The fact that he could just leave for how many
- 33:27Speaker 4: weeks was like seven or eight games he missed last.
- 33:30Speaker 3: Year because of the mayhem.
- 33:31Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just like they didn't skip a beat the
- 33:34Speaker 4: entire time, because he's kind of a delegator right well.
- 33:37Speaker 3: Now, And a lot of that is having a clear
- 33:40Speaker 3: vision for your team of what you are, who you are,
- 33:43Speaker 3: how you play, and if you do that right, that's
- 33:46Speaker 3: how it should work. And I think ultimately that's what
- 33:52Speaker 3: Sean is trying to do here. He's trying to create
- 33:54Speaker 3: some kind of very clear because they've had so much
- 33:57Speaker 3: turnover here. You never knew what the Broncos. What are
- 34:01Speaker 3: you trying to be? What kind of offense are you
- 34:03Speaker 3: trying to be? What kind of defense are you trying
- 34:05Speaker 3: to be? That you can't you can't can't fire everybody
- 34:09Speaker 3: all the time, and then wonder why there's no identity.
- 34:13Speaker 5: Well, you finished third Division last year. I know you
- 34:15Speaker 5: were eight and nine of the Raiders, but i'll call
- 34:17Speaker 5: it third. Uh, Chargers theoretically are going to be better.
- 34:20Speaker 5: They probably are? Are we are we dumb to just
- 34:23Speaker 5: slip off the Raiders and say, eh, who cares about them?
- 34:26Speaker 5: They stink? I mean, I think got o'connelly quarterback, but
- 34:29Speaker 5: he's nobody's all American.
- 34:31Speaker 3: Now, and he looks like from what I'm hearing, it
- 34:33Speaker 3: sounds like he's going to win the job. Yeah, okay,
- 34:38Speaker 3: but if things go the way they are now, that's
- 34:40Speaker 3: what I've been told, but uh, you know, I think again,
- 34:44Speaker 3: just when you talk to pro personnel guys around the league,
- 34:47Speaker 3: you know, they look at it objectively, you know, look
- 34:49Speaker 3: at it on the board type of thing. They don't
- 34:52Speaker 3: see They see the Raiders as one of those teams
- 34:55Speaker 3: with they've got several of the so called blue players
- 34:59Speaker 3: but almost nothing else, so that it's like an either
- 35:02Speaker 3: or team. They have very dominant players at certain positions
- 35:06Speaker 3: and not a lot of impactful guys at other spots.
- 35:11Speaker 3: So you know, those are the kinds of teams. If
- 35:14Speaker 3: you just play smart, you know, turn the ball over,
- 35:16Speaker 3: you should beat them, right and you know, ultimately, and
- 35:23Speaker 3: people may not like this, but the more boring this
- 35:26Speaker 3: team plays, the better they'll do. That's where they're at
- 35:29Speaker 3: right now, right If people are willing to live with that,
- 35:32Speaker 3: they may enjoy some of the good things, but they
- 35:35Speaker 3: are gonna have to be a little bit boring.
- 35:38Speaker 5: From the worst combination.
- 35:41Speaker 3: In sports because the margin for air is almost nothing.
- 35:45Speaker 3: You're you're playing really close to the vest and it's
- 35:48Speaker 3: hard to you know, you only need like one or
- 35:51Speaker 3: two things to go bad for it to tip away
- 35:54Speaker 3: from you. And that's but that I think, at least initially,
- 35:57Speaker 3: especially if the rookie is going to play, yeah, right
- 36:00Speaker 3: away at quarterback, you're gonna have to help him. You
- 36:03Speaker 3: can't just I always put it like this, and I
- 36:06Speaker 3: know everybody wants to see these guys play right away
- 36:08Speaker 3: just because it's a glamour position. It's changed. People love change.
- 36:13Speaker 3: I'll move a forward, got something to cling to, you know,
- 36:16Speaker 3: they want that something moving forward. But in all the
- 36:21Speaker 3: years I've been doing the draft, the most prepared prospect
- 36:25Speaker 3: I've ever seen and ever will see is Peyton Manning
- 36:29Speaker 3: coming into the NFL as a rookie and Peyton Manning
- 36:32Speaker 3: through twenty eight interceptions as a rookie. And I want
- 36:37Speaker 3: to ask you, what would that look like in the
- 36:39Speaker 3: era of social media, if Peyton would have had to
- 36:43Speaker 3: live through Twitter and Instagram and TikTok, what would that
- 36:48Speaker 3: have looked like? I mean, everybody says all Peyton came
- 36:51Speaker 3: through it fine. You know, they were thirteen and three
- 36:53Speaker 3: a second year and they went to the playoffs. But
- 36:56Speaker 3: I ask you, it's a lot different now totally. And
- 37:00Speaker 3: he is absolutely, without question, the most prepared rookie quarterback
- 37:06Speaker 3: I will ever see. And the record still stands and
- 37:09Speaker 3: it will stand for a long time. And and we
- 37:15Speaker 3: had to work through that. He had to survive that,
- 37:17Speaker 3: but he survived it without what these guys have to
- 37:21Speaker 3: go through because you can tell you can tell these
- 37:25Speaker 3: guys to ignore it, but your family doesn't ignore it.
- 37:28Speaker 3: Your siblings don't ignore it, your friends don't ignore it.
- 37:32Speaker 3: And if we don't think it wears on them, then
- 37:35Speaker 3: I think we're just sadly mistaken. But that's the way
- 37:39Speaker 3: I put it. It's it's not an easy thing what
- 37:42Speaker 3: we all want, or what a lot of people want
- 37:44Speaker 3: the Broncos to do, which is just throw them in
- 37:46Speaker 3: there and hope for the best. That's a hard thing
- 37:50Speaker 3: for him, for the team, for everybody.
- 37:52Speaker 4: Jeff lakewell ESPN dot Com. He joined us every Thursday,
- 37:55Speaker 4: thanks for hanging around for a little extra.
- 37:57Speaker 3: People are like, God, get that guy off of their toe.
- 37:59Speaker 5: You're I see, you're all your media brethren are over.
- 38:01Speaker 5: They're all gathered around.
- 38:03Speaker 2: You gonna claim a corner.
- 38:04Speaker 5: I don't hang with them.
- 38:04Speaker 3: You don't hang with them in the group.
- 38:06Speaker 5: No, you don't hang with them. You're on the far side.
- 38:08Speaker 3: People don't want me in the group.
- 38:09Speaker 2: But you're you're losing real estate. You gotta go claim
- 38:11Speaker 2: a space.
- 38:11Speaker 3: No show. Yeah it on our show. People don't stand
- 38:17Speaker 3: in my space.
- 38:18Speaker 5: And they don't they know, they know you're the best.
- 38:20Speaker 5: Thank you about it all right,
