- 0:00SPEAKER_00: First Corinthians ten warning from history Brothers and Sisters, I want you to know what happened to our ancestors who were with Moses.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: They were all under the cloud and they all walked through the sea.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: They were all baptized into Moses in the cloud and the sea.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: They all ate the same spiritual food, and they all drank the same spiritual drink.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: They drank from that spiritual rock that was with them, and that rock was priced.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: But God was not pleased with most of those people.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: So they were killed in the desert.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: And these things that happened are examples for us.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: These examples should stop us from wanting evil things like those people did.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Don't worship idols as some of them did.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: As the scriptures say, the people sat down to eat and drink and then got up to have a wild party.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: We should not commit sexual sins as some of them did.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: In one day twenty three thousand of them died because of their sin.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: We should not test Christ as some of them did, because of that they were killed by snakes.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: And don't complain as some of them did, because they complained they were killed by the angel that destroys.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: The things that happened to those people are examples.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: They were written to be warnings for us.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: We live in the time that all those past histories were pointing to.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: So anyone who thinks they are standing strong should be careful that they don't fall.
- 2:13SPEAKER_00: The only temptations that you have are the same temptations that all people have.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: But you can trust God.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: He will not let you be tempted more than you can bear.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: But when you are tempted, God will also give you a way to escape that temptation.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Then you will be able to endure it.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: So my dear friends, stay away from worshiping idols.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: You are intelligent people.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Judge for yourselves the truth of what I say now.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: The cup of blessing that we give thanks for is a sharing in the blood sacrifice of Christ, isn't it?
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: And the bread that we break is a sharing of the body of Christ, isn't it?
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: There is one loaf of bread so that we who are many are one body, because we all share in that one loaf.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: And think about what the people of Israel do.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: When they eat the sacrifices, they are united by sharing what was offered on the altar.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: So am I saying that sacrifices to idols are the same as those Jewish sacrifices?
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: No, because an idol is nothing, and things offered to idols are worth nothing.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: But I am saying that when food is sacrificed to idols, it is an offering to demons, not to God.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: I don't want you to share anything with demons.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and then go drink a cup that honors demons.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: You cannot share a meal at the Lord's table and then go share a meal that honors demons.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: Doing that would make the Lord jealous.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Do you really want to do that?
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Do you think we are stronger than he is?
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: Use your freedom for God's glory.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: All things are allowed, you say, but not all things are good.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: All things are allowed, but some things don't help anyone.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Try to do what is good for others, not just what is good for yourselves.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: Eat any meat that is sold in the meat market.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Don't ask questions about it to see if it is something you think is wrong to eat.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: You can eat it because the earth and everything in it belong to the Lord.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: Someone who is not a believer might invite you to eat with them.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: If you want to go, then eat anything that is put before you.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Don't ask questions to see if something you think is wrong to eat.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: But if someone tells you that food was offered to idols, then don't eat it, because some people think that it is wrong, and it might cause a problem for the person who told you that.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: I don't mean that you think it's wrong, but the other person might think it's wrong.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: That's the only reason not to eat it.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: My own freedom should not be judged by what another person thinks.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: I eat the meal with thankfulness, so I don't want to be criticized because of something I thank God for.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: So if you eat or if you drink or if you do anything, do it for the glory of God.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Never do anything that might make other people do wrong.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Jews, non Jews, or anyone in God's church.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: I do the same thing.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: I try to please everyone in every way.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: I am not trying to do what is good for me.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to do what is good for the most people so that they can be saved.
