Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Ryan Bridge: National's week of law and order announcements
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The award for most press releases and announcements on a
- 0:02Speaker 1: single issue. This week must go to National Law and
- 0:07Speaker 1: order was front and center. We had announcements about everything
- 0:10Speaker 1: from first responders to coward punches. It was an assault
- 0:14Speaker 1: of announcements. Now, announcements don't make streets safer. Announcements don't
- 0:19Speaker 1: fix problems on their own. We've learnt this. This was
- 0:22Speaker 1: a targeted campaign to reinforce the idea that they're tough
- 0:25Speaker 1: on crime, that they're on the side of the victim.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Why are they doing this well, because it's now one
- 0:31Speaker 1: of the minority of issues on which they outpoll Labor.
- 0:35Speaker 1: This is from the last IPSOS survey, so they've been
- 0:38Speaker 1: going healthilyather on law and order. Meanwhile, and the upside
- 0:41Speaker 1: down world we live in, Labour's overtaken the right for
- 0:44Speaker 1: the party most trusted to fix cost of living. I know,
- 0:47Speaker 1: for a lot of you listening, this is laughable. They
- 0:50Speaker 1: got us into this mess, et cetera, et cetera. And
- 0:52Speaker 1: I agree with you, but I think it's like a
- 0:54Speaker 1: protest vote against the incumbent. When costed living is high,
- 0:58Speaker 1: Would you actually go and vote for that person tomorrow?
- 1:02Speaker 1: Or are you just sending a signal of general unhappiness.
- 1:06Speaker 1: You never truly know, but Nationals clearly alive to the
- 1:09Speaker 1: fact that it's becoming an achilles hell for them. The
- 1:12Speaker 1: actual numbers are in range the oc A nearly neutral
- 1:15Speaker 1: at three point twenty five percent, inflation at two and
- 1:17Speaker 1: a half percent, that's inside range two. But there is
- 1:21Speaker 1: a politically painful time lag between numbers getting into band
- 1:26Speaker 1: and voters felling it in their pockets. Luxon's team have
- 1:31Speaker 1: identified this problem. Their short term solution appears to me
- 1:37Speaker 1: to be bashed the supermarkets hard and repeatedly ram raid them.
- 1:43Speaker 1: It's almost like they've finished with the mongrel mob, so
- 1:45Speaker 1: now they're taking on the other gangsters, Woolworths an incumbent on. Sorry,
- 1:50Speaker 1: an announcement is coming on next steps. We heard from
- 1:53Speaker 1: the Prime Minister yesterday. This is months out from the
- 1:56Speaker 1: announcement being made. We're hearing it's going to come. So
- 2:00Speaker 1: Aber bashes National on cost of living and Nashville will
- 2:03Speaker 1: bash the supermarkets and guess what, here's the kicker. Nothing
- 2:08Speaker 1: will happen to the prices we pay at our weekly
- 2:12Speaker 1: grocery shop. For more from early edition with Ryan Bridge,
