- 0:34- Podcast, and we are recording live at the
- 0:35- fourth annual spring payer issues roundtable.
- 0:39- Currently joined by Liz Signorella, who is the
- 0:41- senior director of payer contracting at Clover Health
- 0:44- Counterpart Health. Liz, thank you for joining me
- 0:47- today. I'd love to have you start off
- 0:49- by introducing yourself and sharing a little bit
- 0:51- more about your role and organization.
- 0:53- Hi. Thank you for having me, and good
- 0:54- morning.
- 0:55- So again, Liz Signorella, senior director of provider
- 0:58- contracting. I help lead, provider contracting and then
- 1:01- also in the counterpart side business development.
- 1:05- We're Clover,
- 1:06- itself is a provider enablement company.
- 1:09- We focus on equipping providers with data,
- 1:12- driven insights and tools and technology
- 1:15- that can help deliver more proactive personalized care
- 1:17- for patients.
- 1:19- We align goals so clinicians can spend more
- 1:21- time focused on patient care and outcomes that
- 1:23- help reduce administrative burdens for the provider office.
- 1:23- And
- 1:27- and finally, that kinda helps deliver more preact
- 1:30- proactive care, particularly for our seniors with complex,
- 1:33- you know, chronic care conditions.
- 1:35- Wonderful. Well, thank you for taking the time
- 1:37- to be here. And I'd love to start
- 1:39- our conversation with from your perspective,
- 1:41- what is the most pressing operational challenge facing
- 1:44- payers right now, and how are you addressing
- 1:46- it?
- 1:47- Yeah. Great question.
- 1:48- So I think, really, one of the most
- 1:49- pressing challenges is the rising administrative burdens on
- 1:53- providers
- 1:54- and then the rising,
- 1:55- coupling that with improved outcomes. We have regulators,
- 1:58- we have payers, we have patients themselves that
- 2:00- are all looking for more improved, better outcomes,
- 2:03- but it's challenging for our clinicians to face
- 2:06- today.
- 2:07- With these increased, you know, pressures and from
- 2:09- the market itself to help improve the outcomes,
- 2:12- the providers are often tasked to find all
- 2:14- sources of the data and the truth behind
- 2:16- that data in a relatively short part of
- 2:18- time. And I think a lot of times
- 2:20- our industry is more reactive than proactive. So
- 2:23- I think that's where Clover really comes in,
- 2:26- to assist our provider community,
- 2:28- by bringing
- 2:29- real time clinician data from the
- 2:32- patients have, you know, whether they've gone to
- 2:35- an ED or a specialty visit. That's not
- 2:37- always surfaced for a primary care physician, but
- 2:39- through the Clover,
- 2:41- tool, we're able to take a 100 different
- 2:43- data source points and bring it and surface
- 2:45- it at the time of the appointment so
- 2:46- the provider can kinda prep prep for that
- 2:47- appointment prior to seeing the patient. And that
- 2:50- way, at the point of care, they're having
- 2:51- a live, more interactive discussion than trying to
- 2:55- interview the patient to find out what happened
- 2:57- from the last visit. They've kind of have
- 2:58- that information sourced right there for them to
- 3:01- be able to have that conversation and have
- 3:03- a better outcome from the appointment with the
- 3:05- patient.
- 3:06- Certainly.
- 3:07- And there is a constant tension between keeping
- 3:09- costs down and actually delivering a good member
- 3:12- experience, especially as it comes to care coordination.
- 3:15- So how is your organization balancing cost containment
- 3:18- with improving member experience and quality outcomes, and
- 3:21- where are you seeing the greatest opportunity for
- 3:23- impact?
- 3:24- Yeah. So, I would say definitely when care
- 3:26- is more proactive and coordinated with the patients,
- 3:29- they have the better experience, and they are
- 3:31- more confident in their provider care that they're
- 3:33- receiving.
- 3:34- When they come into the office and the
- 3:36- provider already knows again that they maybe had
- 3:38- an ED visit or they had an appointment
- 3:40- with a certain specialist or even knowing that
- 3:42- they've, you know, filled and taken their medication.
- 3:45- I think that that gives them a confidence
- 3:47- that their provider is really invested in their
- 3:49- care and has taken the time to kind
- 3:51- of research so that they aren't, again, doing
- 3:53- a discovery phase during that appointment.
- 3:56- And I think as an industry, we can
- 3:57- agree that early intervention and early diagnosis can
- 4:00- lead to lower costs and hopefully less, you
- 4:02- know, acute care episodes or ED visits,
- 4:05- better managed care with that early intervention. And
- 4:08- those are all drivers that come out of
- 4:10- being more proactive in,
- 4:15- continuum of care. And digital engagement and transformation
- 4:19- continues to accelerate across health care. What technologies
- 4:23- in AR are you prioritizing right now, and
- 4:26- where are you seeing meaningful ROI as well
- 4:28- as better member engagement?
- 4:31- Yeah. So we prioritize technology that can integrate
- 4:34- into clinical workflows, and we deliver the value
- 4:36- at that point of care,
- 4:38- when the patient's there and and, you know,
- 4:40- in that discussion with the provider.
- 4:43- AI is a really powerful tool, but it
- 4:45- should be used to help augment decision making
- 4:47- processes. It's not there to replace the decision
- 4:50- making process.
- 4:52- So I think in the fact that, you
- 4:53- know, these insights are surfaced at the time
- 4:55- of the appointment,
- 4:56- it's helping, the return on investment definitely for
- 4:59- the provider is they're able to deploy their
- 5:01- staff to work on more direct patient care
- 5:04- than researching what's happened to that patient again
- 5:06- prior to the visit or what's happened since
- 5:08- the last visit.
- 5:09- So I think that's the biggest, you know,
- 5:11- return on investment is really the administrative time
- 5:13- of the provider office and the better management
- 5:16- and earlier diagnosis and detection of, you know,
- 5:18- chronic care conditions that can arise.
- 5:21- Absolutely. Well, Liz, thank you so much for
- 5:23- joining me today on the Becker's healthcare podcast
- 5:26- and sharing these thoughts and insights. Again, we
- 5:28- are recording live at the fourth annual spring
- 5:30- payer issues roundtable.
- 5:31- Thank you for having me. I appreciate your
- 5:33- time.
