- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn French with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. We are so happy to be here with you again. Lucas: We have been talking about your home lately. Last episode we looked at kitchen tools. Luna: Yes, the whisk and the spatula. But what do we do with them? We cook! Lucas: Exactly. And then we need to put things away. Today we talk about storage. Luna: Oh, that is smart. Because my kitchen is always messy. Lucas: It happens to the best of us. Let us start with the cold place. Luna: The fridge? Is it simple? Lucas: It is very common. The word is le réfrigérateur. Luna: Le réfrigérateur. That sounds long. Lucas: It is. Say it slowly with me. Le réfrigérateur. Luna: Le réfrigérateur. Okay, that feels better. Lucas: Good job. It keeps your milk and cheese fresh. Luna: Right. But what about ice cream? Or frozen peas? Lucas: Ah, good point. Those go in the freezer. In French, it is le congélateur. Luna: Le congélateur. Con-gé-la-teur. Got it. Lucas: Pronunciation is perfect. Repeat it one more time for practice. Luna: Le congélateur. Yes. So the fridge is for cold, the freezer is for frozen. Lucas: Exactly. Now, where does the bread go? Or the pasta? Luna: In a cupboard? A shelf? Lucas: Yes. The general word for a storage cabinet or pantry is le placard. Luna: Le placard. Like a closet? Lucas: Similar. But usually lower down in the kitchen. Try saying it. Luna: Le placard. Placard. I like that word. It sounds sturdy. Lucas: It is a sturdy word. You can put heavy things there. Luna: Okay. So I have le réfrigérateur, le congélateur, and le placard. Lucas: Perfect. Now let us put it into action. When you come home with groceries... Luna: I buy a lot of stuff. Bags full of fruit and bags full of meat. Lucas: Then you take it all out and put it in its place. The phrase is: Je range les courses. Luna: Je range les courses. Wait, je range means I tidy up? Lucas: Yes. Range comes from ranger, to organize or put away. Les courses means the shopping. Luna: So Je range les courses means I am putting away the shopping. Lucas: Exactly. Say it fully now. Je range les courses. Luna: Je range les courses. That is a very useful sentence. Lucas: It is. Imagine you see yogurt on the counter. You want to tell someone to put it away. Luna: I would say Il faut garder ça au frais. Lucas: Correct. Il faut means it is necessary. Garder ça means keep that. Au frais means in the cool. Luna: Il faut garder ça au frais. Oh, I use this all the time. Lucas: Let us review the words quickly before we move on. Luna: Ready. Le réfrigérateur. Lucas: Le réfrigérateur. Correct. Luna: Le congélateur. Lucas: Le congélateur. Good. Luna: Le placard. Lucas: Le placard. Excellent. Luna: Je range les courses. Lucas: Je range les courses. Very good. Luna: Il faut garder ça au frais. Lucas: Il faut garder ça au frais. Nailed it. Luna: This was easy. I feel ready to clean my kitchen. Lucas: Maybe start with just one shelf. One step at a time. Luna: You are right. Baby steps. Just like learning French. Lucas: Exactly. By the way, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with this language... Luna: Yeah, we want to mention something small but important. Lucas: We do not have ads. But if you can, it is truly appreciated. Luna: Thanks for listening today. Now back to our kitchen. Lucas: Let us imagine a scene. You walk in with a bag of apples. Luna: And some frozen fish. And a box of cereal. Lucas: Where do the apples go? Luna: They go in the fridge. Dans le réfrigérateur. Lucas: And the fish? Luna: In the freezer. Dans le congélateur. Lucas: And the cereal? Luna: In the cupboard. Dans le placard. Lucas: Perfect. You are organizing everything well. Luna: I feel so productive. Je range les courses! I love saying that. Lucas: It is a satisfying phrase. Almost as satisfying as eating an apple. Luna: Or keeping it fresh. Il faut garder ça au frais. Lucas: Exactly. Do not let it get warm. Luna: That is a good lesson. For food and for patience. Lucas: Very wise. Practice these five phrases today. Luna: Say them when you cook. Say them when you shop. Lucas: Use them in your head while you walk around your kitchen. Luna: It makes the space feel smaller and easier to manage. Lucas: It does. Learning vocabulary gives you control over your environment. Luna: Even if the environment is just a messy countertop. Lucas: Especially then. A clean kitchen is a calm mind. Luna: I am going to try that right now. Thank you, Lucas. Lucas: You are welcome, Luna. And thank you for joining us. Luna: See you next time for more French fun. Lucas: Bye for now. Keep practicing.
