- England wins wild one! This is The Sports Reset for Sunday, July 19th. In World Cup soccer, England closed Saturday with a 6 to 4 win over France in Miami, a high-scoring sendoff after both teams arrived carrying semifinal frustration. Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe had both been chasing the Golden Boot picture going in, so a game with that many goals fit the bigger tournament story around elite finishers and tired defences. In UFC, Dricus Du Plessis beat Kamaru Usman by decision in the middleweight main event, a former champion beating another former champion in the UFC’s return to Oklahoma City. In ATP tennis, Daniel Merida beat Damir Dzumhur in three sets to win the Umag final. In MLB, the Jays edged the Chicago White Sox 1 to 0 at Rogers Centre, a needed reset after Toronto came out of the break with its wild-card runway shrinking. In the CFL, the Montreal Alouettes outlasted the Calgary Stampeders 38 to 32, while the Hamilton Tiger-Cats clipped the Toronto Argonauts 24 to 23. Looking ahead, the matchup to watch is the World Cup final, with Argentina meeting Spain at MetLife Stadium. Lionel Messi enters with eight goals, leading the tournament, and Argentina is trying to become the first repeat World Cup champion since Brazil in 1962. Spain brings the other side of the argument: a back line that has conceded just once all tournament, plus Lamine Yamal growing into the knockout rounds. In golf, The Open heads into Sunday with Sam Burns at 10 under, two clear of Ryan Fox and Si Woo Kim at Royal Birkdale, while the Dodgers and New York Yankees play a doubleheader in the Bronx after Saturday’s rainout. The Jays get the Chicago White Sox again, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers visit the Ottawa Redblacks in the CFL. Beyond the scoreboard, World Cup final tickets have turned into a major business story, with last-minute resale prices starting in the thousands and premium seats pushing far higher.
