- 1:07So I'm, you know, traditionalist
- 1:11Agreed. Season 5 Episode 3 More Sister
- 1:16Wives. Oh, we're going to be meeting
- 1:19more Sister wives. Very inventive title.
- 1:25I would say in this episode we
- 1:30family's pre approvals because
- 1:34enough. So in case you don't remember
- 1:37from the episode before this or the one before that or the one
- 1:41before that, they've been working towards being pre
- 1:44approved for their homes at the cul-de-sac and they have been
- 1:47pre approved. We did get a moment of Robyn
- 1:49being told she was approved and it was like, oh.
- 1:53I didn't want my my previous marriage to affect this family.
- 1:59And one of the clips had her big
- 2:02ah yes, don't ever let us forget
- 2:06They like to remind us. Before we get introduced to
- 2:09these other sister wives, the more sister Wives, America's
- 2:13second favorite polygamist family, we're going to go with
- 2:16Kody as he visits each of his wives homes to discuss briefly
- 2:21their home plan decisions. You started Christine's house.
- 2:26Everyone's favorite brown wife.
- 2:27There's a lot of favorites happening here, and I think I'm
- 2:30lying about all of them. Oh, it changes.
- 2:34It changes each time, doesn't it?
- 2:37That's why we have the shit stain in the mustard seed.
- 2:40It truly does change. This time we're starting out
- 2:43with Christine being the favorite.
- 2:44We'll see if she is at the end. Oh, yeah, they're reviewing the
- 2:49house plans and Christine says she would like the five bedroom
- 2:54slash 6 bedroom option. My assumption is, and I, you
- 2:57know, we definitely are not done with this topic.
- 2:59Oh my God, we are not done with this topic.
- 3:01But I think that means that Christine is going for the five
- 3:04bedroom option and is hoping for this dining room slash
- 3:08office slash study that's off the foyer to be a sixth bedroom
- 3:13because, you know, she has all these kids and they need all
- 3:16these rooms. We have Robyn and Meri
- 3:18affectionately calling it a hobby room and we've got
- 3:23Christine saying that she wants 6 bedrooms and Kody is like,
- 3:28oh, so you want the five bedroom
- 3:31Yeah, and they're all talking about the budget here and they
- 3:36all have the same budget. So they have to talk about their
- 3:39budget and what they want and to
- 3:42They only have finite resources.
- 3:45Yes, the second wife's home that we visit is Janelle and of
- 3:50course she doesn't think that she needs 5 bedrooms.
- 3:53She just doesn't see it. And she's got one kid that can
- 3:58These two could be together. She wants the kids to share
- 4:01rooms. She doesn't think that each kid
- 4:02needs their own room. And Kody is pushing her to have
- 4:05the extra bedroom. And he brings up Logan and he's
- 4:09like, what? You don't think that Logan's
- 4:10going to be here to visit all the time in the summer?
- 4:13You don't think that one of the kids will potentially stay here,
- 4:26penny pinching bullshit. And I do understand kids sharing
- 4:37sister for a while. It was under obscure, weird
- 4:41circumstances that we had to share a bedroom under duress,
- 4:45that we had to share a bedroom. And I think it builds character,
- 4:58child and I personally don't think I was scarred for life
- 5:02from it. I think that that makes sense.
- 5:11And you know, I hate when I have to say this makes sense.
- 5:14When Kody saying something it's terrible but I agree with Kody
- 5:21fucking bedroom. All I can think of is 14 year
- 5:24old me with my tiny little box white television that I
- 5:27purchased with my own money that I saved up standing right up
- 5:31next to the speaker on top. It was on top of my dresser
- 5:35watching talk sex with Sue at midnight on the quietest volume
- 5:39and listening with my ear up to the speaker.
- 5:42I couldn't have done that if I was sharing A room.
- 5:46I couldn't have watched dark Sexist soup and Oxygen after
- 5:51dark with a sister sleeping in my room.
- 5:56It's part of growing up. Weird shit like that, come on.
- 6:01your siblings, that does change a person, I think.
- 6:04I mean, we're going to find out later on that maybe a couple of
- 6:09these other polyglas, I, I don't.
- 6:12Know yeah maybe they were watching so they.
- 6:14Were watching together the equivalent, she was around a
- 6:18long time before I ever started watching it and it would even
- 6:21say on the bottom this is a rerun, do not call in when it
- 6:25would put her number up. Maybe they did, who knows?
- 6:29Robyn would like the hobby room and a fifth bedroom because
- 6:34maybe she'll have more kids. Ellipsis dot dot dot.
- 6:38She is the only one that brings up that she wants the extra
- 6:42bedroom for a potential child. She is the only one that's going
- 6:49I mean like. Christine like we're being
- 6:52honest with ourselves. Like Christine and Janelle, like
- 6:56beginning of the show, like the first season, they both said,
- 6:59like maybe after Christine had little truly scrumptious, she
- 7:01might have said something like, I think I'm done.
- 7:04Actually, I think that after Saul was born, she did have.
- 7:07I think she's brought it up that she knows she's done.
- 7:12After that. I do remember her saying that
- 7:14she is done, that she doesn't want anymore, which is why it
- 7:17was even more of a slap in the face the way that Kody treated
- 7:23But you know. Well, and when Robyn says this
- 7:28this wonderful two shot of her and Meri in the same frame and
- 7:38Leave it in, motherfucker. And there was like this long,
- 7:42drawn out like moment where it's like, OK, yes, we get it.
- 7:45We're still talking about Meri's fertility.
- 7:47Oh my God. But luckily we don't get into
- 7:50that. Thank God.
- 7:51They just move on. And Meri is the 4th and final
- 7:54wife, even though she's the first wife for Kody's house
- 7:58tour. House tour?
- 7:59I know there's a song about that these days, but I'm too old to
- 8:09My wet bar. I want my wet bar.
- 8:11She wants that wet bar. That's her dream.
- 8:14If it's under 8K because that's what's left in her budget.
- 8:17And then she asked a joke about wanting to add a tennis court
- 8:22for Leon. Right.
- 8:23While they're discussing this, he says there's something about
- 8:26like, well, if as long as it's under 8K, then it should be OK.
- 8:29And then she's like, well, a
- 8:30tennis court for Leon. And he think I think he cracked
- 8:34a joke about it being like 45,000 or one of them did.
- 8:36And it's just like, Oh my God,
- 8:40bit funnier because like if. She I didn't know she was joking
- 8:43right away and I literally looked at Chris and I said if
- 8:45this bitch thinks she's getting a tennis court for like
- 8:50whatever 8K she might have leftover, which it doesn't
- 8:53sound like she is if she gets the wet bar right.
- 8:57Get out of town with this shit.
- 8:58That's where I'm like, if she was funnier it could have
- 9:00worked, but she's not funny enough.
- 9:02So it just seemed like she was legitimately suggesting it.
- 9:04And then there was like, obviously I'm kidding.
- 9:07And it's like, Meri, nobody knows you're kidding because
- 9:09you're fucking weird. Yeah, get all the other kids out
- 9:16Just pack it down, get your kids
- 9:19to work, and then you can have
- 9:22Leon. And like, that's even a real
- 9:24thing. It's so ridiculous.
- 9:27It's almost as ridiculous as her
- 9:30Distracting, so distracting. Every time they do a close up
- 9:32I'm like oh God Meri. The bad spray tan is still in
- 9:36full swing. Oh yeah, full swing.
- 9:39She must have gotten it for this
- 9:42their. For their for their upcoming
- 9:44trip. And then we get this
- 9:46introduction to America's second
- 9:50It was kind of odd because I don't like sometimes how they
- 9:52edit it where they give us some things but not enough things.
- 9:55So then you're like, OK, like what's happening?
- 9:57And then I think they think it's
- 9:59really I'm like, oh God, what is
- 10:02They start talking about there's
- 10:05Brown family and that there's 27
- 10:09we're going on a plague vacation with a polygamist vacation. 50
- 10:14total. 50 people that are going to be on this plague vacation,
- 10:18which means a vacation of polygamists.
- 10:21God, Meri thinks she's so funny. And it only gets worse.
- 10:27Like these days. It's terrible.
- 10:28I want to know if when Meri got into the spray tan booth if it
- 10:40appropriation and she just turned it all the way fucking up
- 10:49Well maybe she knew that we would be re watching and
- 10:52recording this episode and releasing it on May 5th.
- 10:55And so she went. I'm going South of the border
- 10:57for this episode. She knew that we'd be reviewing
- 11:00this on Cinco de Mayo. You're right.
- 11:02Yeah, she knew. Because as as I have told you
- 11:06before, I have astral projected into their past.
- 11:09Oh yes, that's right. Into their past I.
- 11:12Think you're going to say into Meri Cenote but no into their
- 11:15past? And I have said while I did
- 11:18check that out too and let me tell you issues.
- 11:22Cavernous. Cavernous, not an egg.
- 11:25Insight all. Right.
- 11:27No eggs. Kody hasn't been here in years.
- 11:32Hello, hello, hello.
- 11:34I got to say I have gone back and I did let her know.
- 11:40We're going to be talking about you on Cinco de Mayo, Girl.
- 11:43Yeah, and it was. Get festive.
- 11:45It was a time where, you know,
- 11:48didn't think like they do now,
- 11:50Unfortunately for her, I didn't warn her about cancel culture,
- 11:55Right? So sorry about that, Meri.
- 11:58I'm so sorry. Sorry, Meri.
- 12:00So sorry, I did you wrong. I did you dirty, girl.
- 12:02I'm wondering if this is the most inappropriate thing she
- 12:05could be cancelled for in the show.
- 12:08I think mostly people just want to cancel her for other reasons
- 12:11that aren't appropriation. So there's, there's a lot of
- 12:15Cancel Meri out there. I'm the president of the Cancel
- 12:18Meri fan club. Oh.
- 12:19Boy. So these 27 other people going
- 12:22on this polygamous family trip, this plague vacation, they're
- 12:26called the Dargers, DAR Gers. Not the Duggars, the Dargers.
- 12:35So throughout the episode, I want to make that very clear
- 12:39because the pronunciation of these people with that last name
- 12:44was questionable. And I had to wait for it to come
- 12:48across the screen to spell it out to be like, OK, they are not
- 12:52related whatsoever to the daggers.
- 12:54Well, we don't know that. We don't know that, yeah, but it
- 12:57is the Dargers. And yeah, unfortunately it took
- 13:00a minute to know what their last
- 13:02said it many times because of that Utah accent.
- 13:08We learn about their family. They kind of go straight over to
- 13:13the family on the couch. The adults after this we're
- 13:19going on a plague vacation announcement is like weirdly
- 13:24made just by talking about the
- 13:26vacation. We're going on a plague
- 13:28vacation. So we learn about this other
- 13:32family and they're 23 kids. First we've got Alina, wife
- 13:40number one wife #2 is Vicki. And then ten years later, we get
- 13:48Val, and the kick in the shins
- 13:55sister. Well, they're all married to
- 13:59Joe. Joe.
- 14:01Patriarch of the family. And so he's our.
- 14:05The shock of the twin sisters.
- 14:08Joe, My bad. Joe is like our counter to Kody.
- 14:11He's the the man of the house,
- 14:15And yeah, Alina and Vicki, they do introduce Alina as wife
- 14:19number one and Vicki as wife number two.
- 14:22However, we learned that they got married at the same time.
- 14:25Yeah. So I don't know how one's one
- 14:27and one's two. Maybe whoever's cavern is the
- 14:30smallest? I don't really know.
- 14:32I think it's how the dads approved the marriage because
- 14:37they go into the approval of the
- 14:42women and I think it's the order that their fathers handed
- 14:46their daughters over consensually.
- 14:49Consensually handed their daughters.
- 14:52I don't know, Joe. Yeah.
- 14:55So Alina and Vicki get married first to Joe at the same time,
- 15:06Vicki's sister. Vicki's sister, OK.
- 15:08So Alina and Vicki were raised in plural lifestyles.
- 15:12So we go into this story of these two women first and how
- 15:17they met Joe, Alina, and Vicki. They talk about being raised in
- 15:21the plural life and how this was not odd for them and that
- 15:25Joe's mom knew that they both liked him and went and spoke to
- 15:30them each and said that they should pursue him together.
- 15:35Right. So Joe's mom went and spoke with
- 15:47and I'm going to encourage these two women to go and marry
- 15:52him. Two clams on a surfboard?
- 15:54Yes, surf and turf. Surf and Turf Joe talks a lot
- 15:59about how courtship is for the
- 16:03it's very serious. And that this proposition of
- 16:07these two ladies kind of took him by surprise, even though his
- 16:13mom was pulling the strings of
- 16:17I think he's being very genuine in the fact that he wasn't just
- 16:19jumping on this idea right away.
- 16:21He really wanted to think it through and it seemed like a lot
- 16:26I mean, he didn't. It didn't sound like BS when he
- 16:28was talking. I didn't think so.
- 16:30I think this entire episode he is very forthcoming and like
- 16:35Blunt. So Vicki's dad said that he was
- 16:40completely OK with her getting married at the same time as
- 16:45Alina to Joe. But Alina's dad was pissed.
- 16:48And it took a little while for Alina's dad to approve this.
- 16:53And he said to Alina, I'm giving my permission, not my blessing.
- 16:58So that's why I think it's odd
- 17:01that it's like the wife #1 Alina, then Vicki, because
- 17:06Alina's dad was the second. So I guess it doesn't make
- 17:09sense. It was the dad's approval.
- 17:10That was the order of the wives.
- 17:12I have a confession honey. I don't know who these women
- 17:16are. I was confused for most of the
- 17:24his Dick 1st and who sucked his Dick second.
- 17:27It was a lot for me. I mean honeymoon I, I there's so
- 17:36And it also doesn't help that all these women look similar
- 17:42from a distance Slash like for me, if you just kind of moved
- 17:46them around in order on the couch, I would have been like, I
- 17:50I I thought that the twins were not the twins because I thought
- 17:53they looked more alike. And then you were like, no, the
- 17:56noses. There's two that have some
- 17:58beaks. Yep.
- 17:59And one who has a a. Ski Jump.
- 18:02Nose Ski. Jump nosy.
- 18:04And so when I could catch that, I could go, oh, sure, yeah.
- 18:07And when they were standing, there was some height
- 18:09differences, but when they were on the couch, there were several
- 18:14I could tell the noses and then there were times where both
- 18:17twins would turn a certain way and you'd clock it.
- 18:21But I just find the whole situation very interesting
- 18:25because you got another type of group.
- 18:29So they're not part of the same religious sect, which they did
- 18:38distinction is. A lot of listeners that are deep
- 18:44know. But yeah, it was, it was crazy
- 18:52well, I guess you have my permission, but not my blessing.
- 18:59Joe right away afterwards, like,
- 19:02it. And I just, part of me thinks,
- 19:06and I do not want to like, assume anything about anyone's
- 19:09sexuality, but I think that there was like this friendship
- 19:15that formed between these two women.
- 19:18And part of me wonders if it was
- 19:25Interesting. I don't know.
- 19:27I'm not sure that I was picking up that vibe, but I also wasn't
- 19:31looking for it. I was trying to remember who was
- 19:34who. Yeah, Joe talks a lot about how
- 19:37they became best friends after
- 19:42maybe you should go pursue them together.
- 19:45And I really don't want to, like, push any sort of agenda or
- 19:49idea on these people. But, you know, there's a part of
- 19:53me that thinks of, like, lavender marriages.
- 19:56And maybe they were hanging out a lot.
- 19:59And Joe's mom saw it, and in her.
- 20:04Idiotic mind that's blinded by
- 20:09She thought that they both were interested in her son and they
- 20:12weren't. I don't know.
- 20:13But anyway, I think that these
- 20:19to even have gone along with this from the start, so.
- 20:24Sure, I mean, Joe does reference
- 20:28reminder of that they court to marry not to date.
- 20:32So that's definitely a big thing
- 20:35background. Like he's all about kind of the
- 20:39oh God, whatever the steps are, the protocols of like their
- 20:42courting rituals and blah, blah,
- 20:45And he did at one point say something like, Oh, and I would
- 20:48drive up to where to the house
- 20:51would be there and I would be all giddy or excited.
- 20:53And it's like. OK.
- 20:55He was like, I'd be intimidated,
- 20:58was a lot and, like, overwhelming two women at once
- 21:01instead of just one. I think that it was like, oh.
- 21:05Yeah, it's hard for me to get inside Joe's brain.
- 21:08Yeah, yeah, he's very a stoic person.
- 21:13That seems like. He has a skull, he's got a bald
- 21:17head, A. Skull it's.
- 21:18Shiny and he definitely is a rule follower.
- 21:22He's a rule giver. And they give us an example
- 21:25right off the bat because Joe is
- 21:28for the children for getting in the vans to drive to Vegas.
- 21:32Yeah, he has a straight up seating chart and he says once
- 21:35they're assigned to a seat, they
- 21:37where they're sitting. Yes, it's so great.
- 21:40So this is something, you know, a little foreshadowing as well
- 21:43into the parallels and the differences between he and Kody
- 21:47is like a theme of this episode.
- 21:49Before we get into the seating assignment bit, there was a
- 21:52moment where one of the Dargers provided an update saying that
- 22:00overnight or stay in Vegas overnight.
- 22:02And then they're going to be heading to Southern California,
- 22:05to Oceanside as this, this polygamous vacation, this plague
- 22:12it. My God, plague vacation.
- 22:14So that when they give us this example of the seating chart,
- 22:18it's a little like, OK, because then all of a sudden we're back
- 22:20to talking about how they got married two weeks after he
- 22:23proposed. At least the first two lesbian
- 22:26they're. Not lesbians.
- 22:27The two sisters. Sisters.
- 22:29No, no, these two aren't sisters.
- 22:31The Scissor Sisters. We got the Scissor Sisters and
- 22:38They're two different sisters, but they're all sister wives.
- 22:41Holy shit. We are meeting a lot of sister
- 22:45Oh, God, a lot of spit being exchanged around here.
- 22:50Valerie volunteers that she was married previously in a plural
- 22:57I always, I don't know, get to do a little skins chin scratch
- 23:06Skin scratch when it comes to being previously married in a
- 23:10plural marriage with no details given, right?
- 23:13Was there many wives? Was there just one other wife?
- 23:18Was it Scissor Sisters where the blades got very dull?
- 23:21You know what was happening. Yeah, she doesn't obviously give
- 23:33Like she's just like I was in a previous plural marriage.
- 23:36For 11 1/2 years though. Yeah, for a hollow.
- 23:39It wasn't just like she tried. It didn't work.
- 23:42No, she had kids with this other person and it was 11 1/2 years,
- 23:47and she was only divorced for one year.
- 23:49Yeah, before coming to visit her sister Vicki.
- 23:52Yeah, for less than a year and she comes to visit.
- 23:55Yeah. And when Joe is talking about
- 23:58this visit, I was like, what in the world at first?
- 24:01Because he's like, it's like, I had never seen her.
- 24:04And I was like, it's her fucking twin.
- 24:06Like obviously you have seen her before.
- 24:09I think he just means, like, in a sexual way.
- 24:11Like, I'd never looked at her in a sexual way.
- 24:13I'd never thought of her or seen her as anything other than my
- 24:17wife's sister. And then on this trip, that
- 24:22lightning struck, struck him straight in the chest.
- 24:27Lightning strikes so many of these fucking polygamists.
- 24:29It was like his half beating heart was finally fully a thump
- 24:33thump thump in a way. Which means his first two wives
- 24:36were only 1/4 of his heart. Like it's just sad.
- 24:38This math is sad. It was lost on me at first.
- 24:41So I was like, he had never seen her before.
- 24:43And then it's like, Oh no, he had never seen her before.
- 24:46He realized that maybe she could be the one that sharpens those
- 24:51Vicki said that she saw her sister and Joe look at each
- 24:57other and like the look was just different and she knew right
- 25:02away that they would eventually be married.
- 25:05She could smell where that lightning struck.
- 25:08It was like sulfur. She could smell what they were
- 25:13She could smell the sulfur. She was.
- 25:16Like it's not Valerie's halitosis, it's the lightning.
- 25:24Me and Joe says, you know, we prayed about it.
- 25:26We prayed about it, and then we determined that Valerie should
- 25:36and. Incestuous feeling.
- 25:38It is incestuous. It's literally the definition of
- 25:44It's not a brother and a. Sister but sex with each other,
- 25:48but are they not having sex with each other?
- 25:51They're bunker, bunker buddies, or what do you call it, A tunnel
- 25:57about if they share bedrooms in this episode.
- 25:59They did not. They share a kitchen.
- 26:01We find out for sure, but. Definitely share a kitchen, but
- 26:04do they share a bedroom? They skipped over that detail.
- 26:11we've been with the same guy? They have like a term for it.
- 26:16Women do. US women, US ladies.
- 26:18I can't even think of it right now.
- 26:22I know because I'm going. If it's the other way, it's
- 26:26usually sloppy seconds, but that could that's kind of gender
- 26:29neutral. Why?
- 26:29I want to say bunker buddies but that's 1000% not it.
- 26:33OK. It's.
- 26:33Not it. Yeah, I don't know what it means
- 26:39Tunnel Buddies. Tunnel Buddies.
- 26:40No, that's what you think 2 guys call if they've been with the
- 26:44same girl. I feel like I don't know any of
- 26:46these things. Oh my gosh, maybe it's.
- 26:47Because I'm a pure gay man. Well, you would.
- 26:51Yeah, very pure, touched by an. Angel I'm just going to shout it
- 26:59Sudden you're like, you know what it's about.
- 27:02One eyed snake whisperers. Charmers.
- 27:05No. Snake Whisperers.
- 27:09Oh God. Then the brown adults are
- 27:14talking about being sisters and sister wives and the
- 27:17complications involved in that. Like they're having this couch
- 27:23said something like if my sister married Kody and was my sister
- 27:30And I'm like bitch, duh. But I'm glad they gave us the
- 27:34obvious because, you know, this is Sister Wives, so they have to
- 27:46her and that's why she says this.
- 27:48She's like, this is normal conference.
- 27:50She's like, well we've gotten a little bit away from this by now
- 28:04Oh my gosh. Yeah, Meri says something about
- 28:07Hopefully by the end of the weekend we'll be able to tell
- 28:10Alina and Valerie apart, which I love because I'm like, girl, I
- 28:15Valerie and Vicky. Valerie.
- 28:16See, I didn't even say the names right.
- 28:18I don't think they even ever call her Valerie.
- 28:20It's Val and Vicky. Val Well, I know it's Valerie.
- 28:26But they call her Val. That's fine.
- 28:28Val Well, Val and Vick or Val and Al?
- 28:31We're probably both completely wrong and actually Joel was a
- 28:34twin. Sister Valerie, Vic, Vicki,
- 28:36There's a lot of names and a lot of faces and I don't know any of
- 28:45Yes, please. Shame me, shame me in the
- 28:48synagogue for being so wrong about this.
- 28:51But I'm actually not ashamed because Oh my God, these women.
- 28:54It was confusing and they didn't
- 28:56show their names every time that
- 28:58They need they. Showed it like one time.
- 29:01If anything, this is when they
- 29:04the entire episode because it's like there's 27 members of
- 29:08their family and then they're like randomly would show a
- 29:11name but it was like oh we needed this like 5 times more
- 29:14regularly. Yeah, so we get to Meri's house
- 29:17and the Dargers have shown up and the two families are getting
- 29:25how they're not going to remember each other's kids names
- 29:32And it's funny because both, you know, couples are joking with
- 29:36each other about it. They're debating on when to
- 29:40leave and like, Kody and the Brown wives are just going back
- 29:45and forth on what time they should leave.
- 29:48And it's obvious of the Dargers are way more organized.
- 29:51And this is when it comes up where Joe is like, please just
- 30:00I'll be annoyed, right? And I don't blame him.
- 30:03It's funny because it's not something that maybe you would
- 30:10for four years. They referenced earlier in the
- 30:15I don't know that they spent, you know, every holiday
- 30:18together, but he probably knows their skis like he knows their,
- 30:22and not like downhill skis like their skis like he knows their
- 30:28doesn't Meri. Doesn't know her own skis.
- 30:30Oh my God. Bye pizza.
- 30:34Oh God, Meri, Meri was like, oh, I've got that knee brace.
- 30:39Got to put that back on. But I love this whole, I mean,
- 30:46someone was like, hey, show up at 9:00 and we'll hit the road.
- 30:49And if they were still getting
- 30:50their shit together at 10, I would be tapping my foot looking
- 30:53annoyed and I would be staring
- 30:56done? You have. 23 fucking kids with
- 30:59you and you're waiting for an hour and you've organized your
- 31:03caravan and you're like, we're
- 31:08with your caravan in tow and all
- 31:11Like this guy who was like acting like he's in the military
- 31:14and the Browns are a shit show
- 31:17Yes. And I was like, the Browns can
- 31:19never be ready and they're never
- 31:23They are tragic. Definitely.
- 31:25There's a couch moment before we
- 31:28together where they're talking
- 31:31Joe. And Meri says, well, I could
- 31:33marry a man like that. And Kody gets up and walks out
- 31:38of the confessional as like a humorous moment because he's
- 31:42like, you know, they're all kind
- 31:45be, you know, with a man that's like that or whatever.
- 31:47And Meri, oh, I can marry a man like that.
- 31:49And he just gets up and walks out.
- 31:50And it's pretty funny. They all laugh.
- 31:53Yeah, I mean, it's pretty obvious that Meri would probably
- 31:55do better in an organized situation like this.
- 31:59We get to the next morning and
- 32:03vans and getting ready to go. Janelle is hoping that Joe is
- 32:08not going to be mad because she's worried that they're
- 32:10running behind. And she makes that comment about
- 32:13making fun of him. Yeah, where she's.
- 32:14I don't remember exactly what she said.
- 32:16Well, Janelle and Meri kind of
- 32:19and Janelle rolls her eyes and
- 32:23like a mocking voice like better
- 32:28blah. I couldn't be with someone like
- 32:30that. And she rolls her eyes, but
- 32:32they're all packing up and just kind of crossing their fingers
- 32:36that it works out. Because that's what they do.
- 32:38They don't come up with seating charts.
- 32:41They just cross their fingers and help.
- 32:44Let's get our family of over 20 in these vehicles and hit the
- 32:48road without a plan. That's so the Browns.
- 32:51Well, then these amazing producers don't give us much
- 32:55else here except we Joe saying
- 33:00leaving on time. And so I guess that's hinting
- 33:04that they left on time, which would be around 10 AM and that's
- 33:07it. At least Joe didn't have to
- 33:09throw a fit or, you know, beat
- 33:13That would have been, you know, that would have been something.
- 33:15He is pretty muscular. Listen, I, I was going to say
- 33:18there's some circumstances where
- 33:21I'd be happy about the beating.
- 33:22And then there'd be other times where I'd be like, this is not
- 33:27Ready on time, honey? Stop beating me.
- 33:30Get your hands off. But then other times it might be
- 33:35deserve a beating. Drag me to the car by my heels.
- 33:41Oh God, we're terrible.
- 33:45I don't know who is driving the white car, but as they're
- 33:48pulling up to the rental homes, Kody's like yelling at one of
- 33:52the people driving one of the cars, like learn how to drive.
- 33:55And I think it's like his own kid.
- 33:59It is funny because all of a sudden we just arrive at
- 34:01Oceanside, CA like we're from Vegas to Oceanside now.
- 34:06The quickest you're going to drive from LA area to Vegas is
- 34:09probably like 5:00-ish hours. So they probably had like a full
- 34:13day because the Browns also can't get anywhere quickly.
- 34:16So they probably it was probably
- 34:20I. Mean think of all the potty
- 34:21breaks with the little kids. They did.
- 34:23And like Kody, they don't plan
- 34:25So I'm sure by the time they got
- 34:27have only stopped twice or something, you know?
- 34:29We had to stop this many times.
- 34:31You guys didn't have a toilet in your car like we did with the
- 34:35flip out toilet? He's like a pain in the van.
- 34:38So they arrive at these oceanfront homes at Oceanside
- 34:42and it is funny because the others like parking the blah
- 34:47blah blah, some reference to who's saying and what house,
- 34:49blah blah blah. I didn't care about any of that,
- 34:55garage. Because.
- 34:55She's like backing up and he's
- 34:58like stop. And it's like, Oh my God.
- 35:00He like yells so loud and it's
- 35:04thing that he didn't need to do.
- 35:06And I, I literally was like, yeah, that was an unnecessary
- 35:10one of his attention seeking yells.
- 35:13Yeah, Very strange. Just very Kody.
- 35:16Very Kody. Yeah.
- 35:17And I think next we're just in the houses talking about where
- 35:23And they let us know that Joe had floor plans printed out with
- 35:38I love a good planner. I love a person who would print
- 35:41a floor plan and assign rooms to that many people.
- 35:43I'm not mad about it. I think in a situation like
- 35:46this, you have to treat it like you're running a summer camp.
- 35:50And I don't know why the Browns don't do this.
- 35:54I don't know why Janelle doesn't do this.
- 35:56I think because there's this facade that she's organized, but
- 36:05she's been yelled at before for doing it.
- 36:08So I think everyone's a little like, we don't want to make the
- 36:12decision, but we want someone do, and then no one does.
- 36:15So they go back and forth and back and forth until they're all
- 36:20And then that's just where they're sleeping for the night.
- 36:23Whereas Joe had the entire home
- 36:25layout up and was assigning spots for everyone pass out.
- 36:29Smart man. Here's your designated pass out
- 36:31spot. Yes.
- 36:33We don't drink, but you can hold
- 36:36dizzy until you feel like you're drunk and then pass out.
- 36:39That sounds nice. All the wives are talking about
- 36:42the efficiency. There's several references to
- 36:45how it must be nice. And how old is Matt?
- 36:48It's like, right. Yeah.
- 36:49Like, once again, just make a plan.
- 36:51I mean, there is something about
- 36:55struggles, different things that
- 36:57years, where it does seem like
- 37:01decisions, but it's terrible at it.
- 37:05And none of the wives want to step up because they're being
- 37:07sensitive to each other. They they've been beat.
- 37:10I got to say, stop saying in this episode they have been put
- 37:14in their place too many times.
- 37:17probably amongst each other. And so, yeah, I don't know.
- 37:22It's just weird that they have
- 37:25the way that Joe does things, but then none of them do it.
- 37:28And Kody does even make a joke
- 37:30that makes the decisions in his family.
- 37:33And I, I'm not the one that makes the decisions in this
- 37:35family. My wives do.
- 37:36And it's like nobody's making decisions.
- 37:39Yeah, Joe leads and people listen, Kody says.
- 37:43And then he says that all of his
- 37:48opinion, and then it like goes off the rails from there.
- 37:53I have to say with the way that Joe leads his family, I would
- 37:58liken it to like, if let's say
- 38:01rafting and you have a guide and
- 38:06what we're going to do to stay
- 38:08And I'm going to get you through
- 38:10And when I say put yours here,
- 38:12And you know, and he was like leading, leading the trail.
- 38:16You felt safe. Whitewater rafting can be
- 38:18dangerous. Now, if that same guide was like
- 38:23wavering on every decision and
- 38:26What do you guys want to do? Do you feel safe doing this?
- 38:29Because if you do, I guess we'll
- 38:31And if you don't, then we won't.
- 38:33You would feel so unsafe and everyone would feel frantic all
- 38:36the time and the kids would start feeling frantic and it
- 38:40trickles down throughout the entire family.
- 38:42And you've got Joe, who is like being a leader and stepping up
- 38:50decision. And then you've got this
- 38:54wavering leader who's like leading the Boy Scouts.
- 38:56It's like you got an arm like a head of an army and a Boy Scout
- 39:01leader. And it's just you're comparing.
- 39:04Apples.
- 39:04And that's quite a compliment for Kody.
- 39:06I don't think that he could even
- 39:08Probably not. They just keep comparing the the
- 39:10husbands and the wives like over
- 39:14entire episode. And so that was my like visual
- 39:19as I was like seeing all of this.
- 39:20I also think that Joe doesn't come across as like a
- 39:25authoritarian to me or like there was some hinting of like,
- 39:29you know, he's and there's some references to it later, like,
- 39:32you know, he's a pile driver, he's a whatever.
- 39:35But really it's like you just have to be in that kind of
- 39:37environment. Otherwise you're going to have
- 39:38fucking brown family chaos. Someone has to be taking the
- 39:41lead. And of the examples we saw, I
- 39:44didn't think he seemed out of line or too brash or anything.
- 39:48He was just literally trying to like, lead the family.
- 39:51I think it would have been really hard to hide if he had
- 39:55been like a shitty dad or like
- 40:01clothing. I think it would have been
- 40:03harder to hide because I, I honestly think that Kody's
- 40:06oldest brother was hiding some
- 40:10so guarded and quiet. And this guy is like, no, I just
- 40:15know who I am. I know how I lead my family and
- 40:17this is how we do things and we plan ahead.
- 40:20Then we don't have the chaos. And I think that all of the
- 40:25wives and the Brown family were kind of just blown away by that
- 40:28and just couldn't even fathom it.
- 40:29And dare I say they were turned on by it?
- 40:34I don't know, they maybe we're
- 40:39I was going to say, there's so
- 40:41they were near the ocean. It was damp, it was moist.
- 40:46Someone got spritzed in the face
- 40:50Even his kids, like we'll get to
- 40:54the fact that no, like dad's in charge and like we all know it,
- 40:59but not in a way where it was like he was scared and felt like
- 41:02he had to protect his family or like hide something.
- 41:07And I know you can't tell all of
- 41:12but that's true. Frankly, I truly think they were
- 41:17being very upfront and honest about who they were.
- 41:20So the families go out on their first adventure, which is so
- 41:23exciting. They're going to go to the
- 41:25beach. And it was hard for me to know
- 41:28where they were going because I feel like at one point there
- 41:32was some Carlsbad Lagoon was said.
- 41:34And then you said some sort of other title.
- 41:38All I got was carls like carls rental place they.
- 41:41Were Carls? So it was Carlsbad, but then his
- 41:47So I'm like like a lot of businesses and one little shack.
- 41:52Yeah. They were going to get paddle
- 41:54boards and surfboards, water accoutrement to have some fun on
- 41:58the coast with the like tide coming in and the sun in the
- 42:02sky. The owner was a douche bag.
- 42:05Oh my. God, Carl.
- 42:07Carl. Was it Carl or when did you just
- 42:10hear the first part of Carls bad?
- 42:12I'm just calling him Carl because it's Carls rental place.
- 42:15Yeah, OK, I did not catch his name and it's let's go Carl.
- 42:18Carl is a douche bag for sure.
- 42:23And then he says some sexist joke about too many chicks.
- 42:28I got enough chicks in my life, yeah.
- 42:30He's got a female dog and a daughter.
- 42:33He's like a chick magnet or something.
- 42:35It's like, yeah, like as he was talking, my penis literally
- 42:38fell off my body. It was disturbing.
- 42:42I mean, that's all I can say about it.
- 42:44He was like gross, and he thought he was.
- 42:46I don't know if he thought he was being funny or if he was
- 42:48high, but it was like, OK dude.
- 42:50Yeah, if he was high, it was a waste of a high because he was
- 42:54Ridiculous. Some sexist joke shit and then
- 43:02how some of the kids could date each other from each of the
- 43:05families. And Christine, make sure to
- 43:06clarify, you know, their family dating our family.
- 43:08Like, OK, once again we're avoiding the incest.
- 43:14Say it out loud. Yeah, the darker kids could date
- 43:16the brown kids. Like thank you for the
- 43:18clarification. Yeah, Christine says that she
- 43:20wouldn't mind. And this is where they talk
- 43:25about how at least some of the
- 43:29of the darker boys, and Robyn has to pipe up and act like she
- 43:34fucking knows everything. And she claims that she heard
- 43:38two of the girls. They're girls saying that they
- 43:42should be sister wives with one of the Darger boys that they
- 43:47both apparently liked. Did you believe this story?
- 43:51No. It did not pass my bullshit
- 43:53meter, no. Which was so weird 'cause I was
- 43:54like this seems like so strange.
- 43:56The way she said it was exactly like one of my girlfriends in
- 44:00high school lying to her fucking parents.
- 44:01I kid you not. Wow, the inflection in her voice
- 44:09like, she is fucking lying. She's finding that she knows
- 44:12something here and she does not. It totally felt like she was
- 44:15just making it up on the spot and then was like, I'm
- 44:17committing myself to the bit and it's like, well, why did you
- 44:20even do this well? They tell me everything, Chris.
- 44:22I'm the cool mom.
- 44:23I'm the young mom. And these young girls, they come
- 44:26to me with everything. And you guys didn't hear that?
- 44:30Oh, well, I did. Shut the fuck up, you liar.
- 44:34She's such a bitch. She is because do you think
- 44:36these innocent girlies, they're girls that are too like,
- 44:41embarrassed to probably talk about a lot of this shit, are
- 44:44saying that like nonchalantly like gossiping in front of Robyn
- 44:49about marrying the same boy? Get the fuck out of here.
- 44:54My gut is telling me that at the
- 44:58of kids checking each other out.
- 45:00You're giving some eyes looking at each other.
- 45:03I think that's probably true. Innocently.
- 45:05Like, yeah. Like, I'm a teenage girl and
- 45:08there's a teenage boy and I'm going to watch him, you know,
- 45:10like, take pick that surfboard up and be like, he's got arms,
- 45:15Oh, Robyn has to ruin everything.
- 45:17Well, because another thing that they point out too, and this is
- 45:21a little later on, is about how the Darger family works out
- 45:25together every day and the Brown family.
- 45:29Claims that they do. They're a little soft, yeah.
- 45:33They're a little like me before the Ozempic.
- 45:37I mean, before all of my exercise, when I was going to
- 45:44start the polygamous playground or whatever, their gym was going
- 45:51before my 50 sessions of sculpture.
- 45:55Fat freezing. Yeah, cool sculpture.
- 45:58Cool sculptures. Yes, yes.
- 46:00I mean, we'd we're all natural working out every day.
- 46:03And you know, I think I'm a little more like Janelle
- 46:07genetically than Vicki. Slash Alina slash Val.
- 46:10Oh my God, For those third names, I hope back at the beach
- 46:16house or back at the beach homes.
- 46:20I don't know. We're at somebody's beach house
- 46:23out in the back, enjoying the lovely view of the beach, the
- 46:27sunset, the waves crashing against the shore.
- 46:29Well, we didn't get to enjoy any of that, but the Browns might
- 46:32have. Instead, we are sitting around a
- 46:39call it, having a chat. Kody's asked about why they came
- 46:47because I have never done so myself.
- 46:50I'm in the closet and I really like to hear people's stories
- 46:55about coming out and being who they really are publicly.
- 46:59Theirs is a touching one. I didn't really care about the
- 47:06before. So I don't really care.
- 47:07Like he just went through his bullet list of like, oh, we did
- 47:09it because of this. And, you know, there were so
- 47:12many people that thought that the bad guys were the good guys
- 47:14and the good guys were the bad guys.
- 47:15And I was here to set the record straight.
- 47:17And it's like, cut to you are a terrible example of what a
- 47:21polygamist man is. Not that there's good examples,
- 47:24I don't know. Yada yada yada, wrong
- 47:26representation, yada yada yada. We didn't want that anymore,
- 47:29yada yada. Exactly, exactly.
- 47:31This is where Vicki shares an example of how polygamy and
- 47:36people's perceptions of polygamy has negatively affected her and
- 47:40their family when talking about losing a 5 month old baby.
- 47:44I think it's Val that lost the baby.
- 47:48See once again. And I am like, I do really truly
- 48:00And so I, I am sorry if we were wrong about this.
- 48:05We were trying to get it right but they weren't putting the
- 48:08names up anymore. When I love why?
- 48:09You're apologizing because I'm like, I'm so not apologetic.
- 48:11These people like, I don't know who it was.
- 48:13Let's. Go with one of them, but I'm
- 48:15going to just say like, it's a, it's a hard story to talk about.
- 48:20we, I hope that we have the person right, because it's a
- 48:23it's a rough story. And this is.
- 48:25I can't even imagine going through this.
- 48:27Yeah, and you're giving whoever shared this story the respect.
- 48:31I think it was Val. It was the tall skinny one with
- 48:35the snot, the beak. Beaker.
- 48:37Meet me. OK honey, now tell us about this
- 48:40story and why you want to give
- 48:42Well, Val had a 5 month old baby, I said.
- 48:47Whoever she was, whichever 1 shared the story, you want to
- 48:51give her the props and respect
- 48:54Val had a 5 month old baby that died and passed away in their
- 48:58home. And of course, whenever a baby
- 49:02passes away in your home especially, they have an
- 49:04investigation that they open. They just want to get to the
- 49:08bottom of it, you know, whether it's SIDS, something else, you
- 49:11know, and since they're a polygamist family, that
- 49:15investigation got pretty rough.
- 49:17They were asking invasive questions about the doctor that
- 49:22she saw and asking if the doctor was a polygamist and if
- 49:27she knew that, and kind of questions that they wouldn't ask
- 49:31a family if they didn't know they were polygamists.
- 49:34And I don't know if those questions really are pertinent
- 49:40away. It doesn't matter if they're a
- 49:46Like, probably not, unless you're truly living on the
- 49:51compound, which we all know about.
- 49:54And their nurses would hide things a lot, particularly
- 49:58babies that passed away. But these people are not living
- 50:03on a compound. They actually were seeking
- 50:05medical attention. So it's a different scenario.
- 50:08And to lose a baby at five months old as a mother would be
- 50:16scarring enough and truly fucking awful.
- 50:19But then to have an investigation into your family
- 50:26I can't even imagine what that woman went through, and I'm sure
- 50:36And yeah. For the investigation to be
- 50:39heavy on the polygamous parts of their lifestyle adds this other
- 50:44layer because yes, when a young child dies, there is usually an
- 50:51investigation and that is traumatic on top of the
- 50:55experience you've already had. So to add this extra layer,
- 51:00yeah, it didn't. You know, we also don't get a
- 51:04lot of details. So, you know, she's does mention
- 51:12issues. So, you know, questioning about
- 51:15the child care being given to a child like that does make sense
- 51:20on a logical level. But that would really suck to
- 51:23have your lifestyle questioned along with it.
- 51:25That would be terrible. And the only reason I can
- 51:27picture it being a factor is if you didn't believe in giving
- 51:31medical attention. And is that neglect then?
- 51:34But these, I don't even want to say, these people, the Dargers
- 51:44intervention from what I could tell.
- 51:46Now, that doesn't mean that they're not.
- 51:48I don't know. But then we get Vicki, which is
- 51:53Val's sister, who tells a story about how, you know, they were
- 52:08it. And she words it very oddly.
- 52:11She says, my mom's dad, not like
- 52:17So this whole story is a little vague and like round Robyn.
- 52:25We get a lot of round Robyn in
- 52:28But. Not square Robyn, round Robyn.
- 52:30This one is, it's confusing, and
- 52:38some, you know, like sensitivities.
- 52:41So yeah, it was intentional. It was very intense.
- 52:44The way she stated it seemed intentional.
- 52:46So hard to know why it was stated that way.
- 52:50Yeah, and we even did go back and watch it like 3 times.
- 52:54Not kidding because we were confused and I thought I heard
- 52:58one thing. Chris thought he heard one
- 52:59thing. So we.
- 53:01Went back, I didn't know who was
- 53:03Well, right. And I'm like, oh, the tall,
- 53:06gangly Big Bird. And then we've got the Grover as
- 53:10the twin drover and Big Bird. And then we've got Abby Mcgabby
- 53:15Dabby. But she was.
- 53:17Was she the one you wanted to show to respect to a minute ago?
- 53:20Or was. The Dwell.
- 53:23I love when you're talking about
- 53:25show. Oh, and I don't mean their show,
- 53:28I mean our show. Like, this is funny.
- 53:30Oh my God. I'm trying to think of what
- 53:31people would have called me when
- 53:35they would probably call me now.
- 53:36And This is why I have a fear of caricatures.
- 53:39So wow. Which is how my husband proposed
- 53:44Yes, which is why it was such a shock.
- 53:45And you know, he got me. There.
- 53:48He really surprised me with that.
- 53:50One of what? You looked like as a cartoon
- 53:52character. It's like one of my biggest
- 53:54fears, like caricatures are like, I'm so sorry, but they're
- 53:57fucking hideous every time. So.
- 53:58Mind have always been very attractive.
- 54:01Oh. OK, just kidding?
- 54:06Janelle asks. Has US going public helped in
- 54:10any way? And then Joe goes on some
- 54:14diatribe, some speech or whatever.
- 54:16It shouldn't say it like that. He just says something on the
- 54:19lines of, I get frustrated over how much more needs to happen,
- 54:29live in the shadows? Is it just because of ostracism,
- 54:36shadows? Historically there are so many
- 54:38reasons, but I think like in today's society with like
- 54:43polyamory, polyamory is kind of a quasi accepted thing.
- 54:51So I think if this would come out nowadays, people wouldn't be
- 54:56as shocked. Yeah, well, in many ways, thanks
- 54:58to the Browns. They were revolutionaries,
- 55:00right? They opened our eyes and our
- 55:02ears and our legs to many people.
- 55:04Duh. Like what am I talking about?
- 55:05Like, of course it's because of them.
- 55:07Jesus, Kimberly. Janelle was really just fishing
- 55:09for a compliment. I mean, of course she was.
- 55:12That bitch. Yeah.
- 55:14I mean, he, like Joe, basically says that he feels like going
- 55:17public has to happen in order to
- 55:21the fact that there are different polygamous sects and
- 55:26they all have different beliefs and.
- 55:30Which of course, allows the show
- 55:33talk about how they are not the stereotype that everyone has of
- 55:37polygamists. He is not at all some evil.
- 55:40I was going to say shrew, harpy,
- 55:45that someone told us in a comment about what the actual
- 55:48terms are that we were trying.
- 55:50And I totally got that wrong. And I, you know, as soon as I
- 55:53read that comment, I was like,
- 55:56bitch. Like you dumb bitch, I can't
- 55:59believe you got Siren and Harpy mixed up like.
- 56:03Well, I love because I was just like, yeah, Harpy.
- 56:05Like one of those women that just won't shut up.
- 56:06And like create code is my God.
- 56:08Version of that, whatever that. Is I actually was kicking myself
- 56:13know, and this is the stuff that drives me nuts.
- 56:15Like when you get called out for stuff like that and you're like,
- 56:25Even layering on the shame. So you should be even more
- 56:29ashamed than those deep, dark, dank, polygamous.
- 56:32I should be living in sin now. I believe it's when we're going
- 56:37to transition to the discussion of the working out and the belt.
- 56:43like the family that just works out like.
- 56:46Those dumbbell. Dargers.
- 56:48Dumbbell Dargers. Oh my gosh, not the dumbbell
- 56:51Dargers. Sorry, Dargers.
- 56:55Whatever your names are. That's so bad.
- 57:00But you know, Christine of course has to say, oh, we all
- 57:03know the Dargers work out every day and they have this
- 57:06discussion about them working out.
- 57:08They're an inspiration, darling.
- 57:09There is. I literally tuned this out
- 57:12because I was like I cannot listen to the Browns talking
- 57:14about working out anymore. Like I just am like I don't give
- 57:20that Janelle actually looks really good on the couch right
- 57:28And then Janelle is next to him for once, and Christina's on the
- 57:38wearing a red like button up top and she looks like she's lost
- 57:43weight here. Like she actually looked really
- 57:46good. And I made little asterisks next
- 57:59deserve some justice. Yes, for that they did her real
- 58:03fucking dirty over and over again.
- 58:05Always. They do her dirty all the time.
- 58:07Part of me feels like just do
- 58:09the producers like not like her,
- 58:12the case. It's just when you, you know,
- 58:14you're at the end of the couch, you're at the widest part of
- 58:16the lens and it's just so unhelpful.
- 58:18I think that she's just like an afterthought because she's so
- 58:22like, amenable. Like she is that amenable.
- 58:25Amenable. Whatever that word is.
- 58:27She goes along with whatever and she's just willing to take like
- 58:31the butt end of the bread every time.
- 58:34That's what I call. It the butt end of the bread.
- 58:37The butt end of the bread like it let's say the whole family
- 58:39gets toast and it gets to the last piece and she's like I'll
- 58:45more bread. Yeah.
- 58:46And that just goes into, like, a lot about her past and how she
- 58:57And they do her dirty on the couch.
- 59:00And I don't think it even has to do with the producers.
- 59:02I think it just has to do with the wives probably, like sitting
- 59:07And then she just, like, lollygags on in and sits there.
- 59:10Yeah.
- 59:11I think the truth lies in the middle in the sense that there
- 59:15is some reason that this show doesn't give her a flattering
- 59:19light, very regular at all. And maybe it is because of just
- 59:22who she is and how she operates.
- 59:24But it almost feels like at times where it's like, how is
- 59:27this even the case? Like no one.
- 59:29I mean, other than they don't I guess They all look terrible.
- 59:32I don't know. I don't know what to say.
- 59:34Now. I have another thing that I
- 59:36would like to bring up here because we go to the Dargers on
- 59:43the couch and I, I'm curious. So we go back and forth between
- 59:48the Browns and the Dargers talking about jealousy issues
- 59:52and how they handle it. And this is an ongoing theme, of
- 1:00:00relationship. But I noticed, and you noticed,
- 1:00:04that the two first wives of the Dargers look more alike than the
- 1:00:14you take on other people's traits, which is why they'll say
- 1:00:21They whatever, you know, people that you're around, you take on
- 1:00:24their mannerisms. Now the twin sister was in a
- 1:00:28marriage for 11 years out God knows where with.
- 1:00:31With God knows who. This person and God knows how
- 1:00:35many other wives and whatever. Yeah.
- 1:00:37And then you've got these two first wives that this is like
- 1:00:41their first ever relationship. Let's be honest.
- 1:00:44Dating in courting is for the purpose of getting married.
- 1:00:48So they've never been in a relationship other than with Joe
- 1:00:53And they look a lot alike. They've obviously taken on each
- 1:00:58other's traits. Their hair looks alike, the way
- 1:01:00they style themselves as a like and not in the sense that other
- 1:01:06polygamists like other Mormons do.
- 1:01:08The bouffant, the Prairie look. Yeah.
- 1:01:11Yeah. Not the Prairie look.
- 1:01:13Not on purpose. This is like a slow morphing
- 1:01:18taking on traits thing. 100 That's why I thought they were
- 1:01:24And you're right, I don't know what that term is.
- 1:01:27If you know what it is, let us know.
- 1:01:29But there is a term for that. It's like this osmosis of
- 1:01:32someone's, you know, vibes, their nests, their looks, this
- 1:01:38I noticed it a lot after you pointed it out because to me at
- 1:01:43first I didn't notice that OK. And I noticed angles where the
- 1:01:52And I don't want to bring it
- 1:01:54back to the noses but like let's
- 1:01:57noses and jaws and I set and whatever the wife that is not
- 1:02:01the sister has the ski jump nose.
- 1:02:04But you're right, the two first wives look like they could be.
- 1:02:12And this conversation is where the Dargers start talking about
- 1:02:16this showing affection. Open it late, openly, openly.
- 1:02:19Like in front of each other. And how they are comfortable
- 1:02:24with doing that. And you know, they kind of give
- 1:02:27some bullet points. I don't know that any of them
- 1:02:30have significance like. How does that take anything away
- 1:02:35divided. Like, yeah, how does that take
- 1:02:42makes sense. I'm way too jealous and
- 1:02:44emotionally based of a person to be in that situation.
- 1:02:47Like I would totally be fucked in the brain.
- 1:02:49I don't know if I could do that in my marriage but they are able
- 1:02:56their Yum but. I know I always default to like
- 1:02:59too broad where I think of ensembles and like a good star
- 1:03:05Yes, yes. That's not the same as a
- 1:03:08romantic relationship, but there is an element of that.
- 1:03:10Yeah, I mean knowing where each other one each of the other
- 1:03:14wives like can shine and where you take a step back would be Oh
- 1:03:23would learn that. I just feel like this other
- 1:03:25family like has it so dialed in and God, you cannot tell that
- 1:03:29from one episode and I know that.
- 1:03:32They do seem so much more well functioned in our introduction
- 1:03:37like, I would watch a show about these guys.
- 1:03:40Like they seem like very interesting people and maybe
- 1:03:44they're actually boring because they have it so dialed in and
- 1:03:48that's why they I don't know. That's why we don't know their
- 1:03:51The Browns. Well, definitely Chris doesn't
- 1:03:58like you were referencing with the topics between the Dargers
- 1:04:04And at one point in this kind of back and forth, Meri has a
- 1:04:08moment on the couch where she says that they have a lot of
- 1:04:11things to deal with in their relationships and that they
- 1:04:14would do that without adding the level of jealousy by sharing
- 1:04:18affection with each other in front of each other.
- 1:04:20And it's like, well. But like, that's a load of
- 1:04:23fucking bullshit. You guys talk all the time about
- 1:04:32because that's crossing a boundary.
- 1:04:33And they're just so full of their own bullshit all the time.
- 1:04:39do and they just don't have. Well, and even what would that
- 1:04:43be like? Oh honey, it's Thanksgiving
- 1:04:45dinner, let's fuck on the table.
- 1:04:47Oh, but no, there's other people around.
- 1:04:49Like this stuff doesn't even happen.
- 1:04:50And like regular relationships, you're not exactly like
- 1:04:53exhibiting a whole bunch of affection in certain ways.
- 1:04:57Like, of course there's like honeymoon phases and whatever in
- 1:05:02their day aren't just like making out with their spouse in
- 1:05:04front of everybody. Like that's not exactly typical.
- 1:05:07And I feel like giving like a pack in front of family or like
- 1:05:10holding hands or putting your arms around each other is like
- 1:05:14pretty common. And I think that that's what
- 1:05:18they do. And you can tell when the Browns
- 1:05:20do it, that they are uncomfortable sometimes.
- 1:05:22Like the Valentine's episode, for instance, Kody was showing
- 1:05:25way more affection to Robyn. And I think we even pointed that
- 1:05:28out. And that was an odd instance.
- 1:05:32And I think that we noticed it
- 1:05:35instance for them to do that. And it's because they're not
- 1:05:40actually around each other as much as we would like to fucking
- 1:05:44think. That and they don't share things
- 1:05:46with each other. And this other family they're.
- 1:05:48With each other all the time. They're with each other all the
- 1:05:50time and they share way more together.
- 1:05:52So they have to be around each
- 1:05:56connection or like a pack or a
- 1:06:01And even with my own sister, I'll be like, you know, put my
- 1:06:06arm around her or like, pull her
- 1:06:10And so to not have that regularly and be married as a
- 1:06:16family, it just would be so bizarre.
- 1:06:19Very weird. I would never be able to do what
- 1:06:21the Browns claim that they can
- 1:06:23They don't. Because I kind of think that my
- 1:06:27love language is actually physical touch.
- 1:06:29Like I'm always kind of doing that with people and not in a
- 1:06:33romantic sense, just in a like I
- 1:06:36someone a hug. I like to embrace people.
- 1:06:38I like to touch an arm. Like I'm all about that shit.
- 1:06:40And if I wasn't able to do, if I
- 1:06:43about not doing that, I would change fundamentally as a
- 1:06:47person, like not in a good way.
- 1:06:49Like I would be uncomfortable all the time.
- 1:06:51I mean, we even like, we'll give hugs and like kisses on cheeks
- 1:06:57twice about it. When it if it happens in front
- 1:07:04I wouldn't. I don't know, but they, I think,
- 1:07:12that and being like. He doesn't touch me.
- 1:07:15I imagine it being a jealousy thing because they're pitted
- 1:07:19against each other because Kody has no backbone and he's a slug.
- 1:07:26fabulous episode, the kids are
- 1:07:30shakes. Oh, they're walking along the
- 1:07:32shore. And I noticed when they get to
- 1:07:34their destination, it's called
- 1:07:40And I'm like, yes, the Cruisin
- 1:07:43get a shake on the beach. I love that you caught that.
- 1:07:46I was like, the kids go to a malt shop and there ain't poodle
- 1:07:51skirt. Cruisin Cafe 101 and their
- 1:07:54poodle skirts. And they have socks with little
- 1:07:57ruffles and their little white
- 1:08:00And we're back in Greece. Yeah, they say the boys hair is
- 1:08:03all greased to the side. They've got the little Combs in
- 1:08:05their pockets. Just kidding.
- 1:08:08There's just a lot of bad clothes and acne because it's
- 1:08:10teenagers going to Cruisin Cafe 101.
- 1:08:15It's really, I, I feel like when
- 1:08:17the kids. But then when we get inside,
- 1:08:19it's really just the older kids sitting around a table.
- 1:08:22And they might have, you know,
- 1:08:24scene, but the older kids from
- 1:08:28this large table in the corner
- 1:08:30There's more older Darger kids
- 1:08:34Maddie points out to the Dargers
- 1:08:38as family. Oh my God.
- 1:08:40Like, yeah. In comparison.
- 1:08:42They talk a little bit about plural marriage and if anyone
- 1:08:46from each family is interested
- 1:08:48And Caleb Darger says that he does not want plural marriage
- 1:08:52and he knows that they kind of
- 1:08:57that down. Did you know anything from like
- 1:09:00either side about that? I didn't really care too much
- 1:09:03about the details of what they
- 1:09:05For some reason, I felt like it was a bit filler.
- 1:09:08The Darger boys, you know, before we get this lovely quote
- 1:09:11from Caleb, which is one of my
- 1:09:14have to admit, the Darger boys
- 1:09:18some repeated comments about how
- 1:09:23charge kind of guy. And that's another thing
- 1:09:25throughout this episode where they're kind of doing this
- 1:09:29display of like Kody and his kids versus Joe and his kids.
- 1:09:33And I noticed a lot of the kids totally look not inbred.
- 1:09:40And so take that for what it's
- 1:09:43And Caleb has this lovely quote when he's talking about his
- 1:09:46father, Joe Joseph, the patriarch of the Darger family,
- 1:09:50and he refers to his dad as big,
- 1:09:56Yeah. And I'm like, yes, being bald
- 1:09:58and intimidating. And it does fit.
- 1:10:02I think intimidating is a teenager, you know, taking that
- 1:10:06from their dad and their life experience.
- 1:10:08He does like I can see it. He has some serious eyes like I
- 1:10:13can. He has, I guess, like that
- 1:10:15serious look. He's big and bald and I would be
- 1:10:18like, if he was coming at me being like, listen, I'd be like,
- 1:10:21oh, I am intimidated. So I guess daddy.
- 1:10:24Yeah, like totally, Dad, whatever you have to say, tell
- 1:10:26me what to do. So I don't know.
- 1:10:28I kind of felt like the scene was a bit throw away.
- 1:10:30I don't know that I learned anything other than that Joe is
- 1:10:33big, bald, and intimidating. The darker moms are a good team
- 1:10:38is what I took away from it, and
- 1:10:41everything, whereas Logan says
- 1:10:47mom for different areas of expertise and Caleb says that
- 1:10:53Joe is an encyclopedia basically
- 1:10:58answers. That's right.
- 1:10:59And then Maddie says our house
- 1:11:02Yeah, affirming what we know. Telling us what we know.
- 1:11:05They show the little brother with the large forehead a few
- 1:11:08times like smiling and giggling along like Beavis and Butthead
- 1:11:11style but. Not in bread.
- 1:11:14But Caleb is giving the answers,
- 1:11:18rehearsed. I don't think it's rehearsed.
- 1:11:19I think that it's just organic
- 1:11:24he's giving the answer is just
- 1:11:28I think as he gets older he might realize that he's a little
- 1:11:31big, bald and intimidating. I think so.
- 1:11:34He might have a little of his daddy inside of him.
- 1:11:36I think so. Although I ironically don't
- 1:11:38think that's actually his bio dad, I think.
- 1:11:39No, I don't think it is. The bottom third saying that it
- 1:11:42was like from the previous marriage.
- 1:11:44Yeah, Yeah. I think that that's one of
- 1:11:46Val's, like older your sons from
- 1:11:49got to say the vibe that I got was that she is like, she was
- 1:11:54kind of scared to like, maybe leave that marriage, which is
- 1:11:57why it took a while. And she maybe didn't know if
- 1:12:00she'd be able to, like, take her
- 1:12:03And sure, it kind of speaks that
- 1:12:10Yeah, yeah, yeah. When we leave Cruising Cafe One
- 1:12:14O 1, which you know happens to
- 1:12:18can cruise there to that cafe.
- 1:12:22bathroom. Well, this is it.
- 1:12:23Like the adults are walking along the beach.
- 1:12:27In our next scene, they're going
- 1:12:30Dini Apostrophe S Bistro. Dini's Bistro, I wish we got a
- 1:12:35little bit more of the interior because I'm like, what was this
- 1:12:37place really like? But unfortunately, we just got
- 1:12:40all the adults around the table for a while talking now.
- 1:12:43I don't know if I should say, unfortunately, I guess that's
- 1:12:45why we're watching this show. But the Browns talk about the
- 1:12:49challenges of living in separate
- 1:12:52Vegas. Christine says they had to do a
- 1:12:55reset. And I was surprised that she
- 1:12:57knew the word reset. Yeah, Joe is wondering, like,
- 1:13:01did you envision this? Did you expect 4 separate homes?
- 1:13:07Like he is kind of surprised by it and was this an accident?
- 1:13:13He doesn't get it. And now Kody talks about some
- 1:13:16things that none of us will get.
- 1:13:17Oh. My God.
- 1:13:19Kody fucking Brown. He says that when they were
- 1:13:23moving to Vegas, he was thinking they'd find a short sale from a
- 1:13:27rich person. Some millionaire would have lost
- 1:13:32would have gone into short sale on their home, you know,
- 1:13:3710152030 foot, 50,000 square feet.
- 1:13:39He just throws out some numbers and a house that would maybe
- 1:13:43have like 4 kitchens and 25 bedrooms.
- 1:13:46And I'm staring at the TV going. He's being sarcastic, right?
- 1:13:51Like he's being silly. He's making this up.
- 1:13:53I don't think he was. I think he was being serious
- 1:13:56like an idiot. I was going WTF?
- 1:13:59No, like what were they going to get like the Bunny Ranch, like
- 1:14:06Like what was that show that used to be on with the like?
- 1:14:08About the brothel. About the brothel, like what did
- 1:14:14That's two separate. See this is the thing like I
- 1:14:16don't. The kitchen would be larger.
- 1:14:19They have a commercial kitchen. Everyone has their own space.
- 1:14:22Hey, maybe they should have got a motel, but instead they found
- 1:14:25that the big homes in Vegas had like 5 bedrooms and one kitchen
- 1:14:31because they were standard homes and not defaults.
- 1:14:36In short sales for multimillionaires with four
- 1:14:39kitchens. I'm like, I don't know, I've
- 1:14:41been in some pretty big homes and you might have a a kitchen
- 1:14:48kitchenette in your basement. You got some things.
- 1:14:51No home has four kitchens. Like I shouldn't say no home.
- 1:14:56The the compound in Lehigh had three, so I don't.
- 1:14:59Maybe he's just that like, dumb that he thinks that that's
- 1:15:02common. Yeah, I.
- 1:15:03I don't get what he thought here.
- 1:15:06Like a condo situation perhaps? I have no idea.
- 1:15:11It just made him sound really, really stupid and I was waiting
- 1:15:14for the moment where he was going to laugh or make it clear
- 1:15:17that he was joking and. Yeah, he did not.
- 1:15:20He was not joking. It was very bizarre.
- 1:15:22Doesn't know anything. And the darker women, the darker
- 1:15:28you got to try the one kitchen again.
- 1:15:30You know, eventually you'll get it and it'll be smooth sailing.
- 1:15:36Yeah, No, not for the Browns. Definitely not.
- 1:15:39Yeah. And then Meri says, well, how do
- 1:15:42you handle like when Ichigo wants to decorate differently?
- 1:15:45Yeah. And then one of the darker wives
- 1:15:48is like, is how you want to decorate worth separating your
- 1:15:53kids over and how you raise your
- 1:15:56Right. And she kind of says it like
- 1:15:59that. Like, are, is this a joke?
- 1:16:01Like, are you really asking me
- 1:16:02Like being in a plural marriage is about compromise, and the
- 1:16:07Dargers talk about that again,
- 1:16:11Like, I can't believe you're bringing up, like how you're
- 1:16:14going to decorate your home versus how you're going to raise
- 1:16:17your children. Dun Dun, Dun.
- 1:16:20I know because I'm going like God I'd pick the decorating over
- 1:16:22the children, but I also don't
- 1:16:26is mouthing on that one. So Kody says that he wouldn't
- 1:16:29choose for them to share a kitchen again because of their
- 1:16:32differences. And he says I'm not being
- 1:16:35sexist, but the kitchen needs to
- 1:16:40Yes, they need to have ownership
- 1:16:46basically based on the past and then in front of the Dargers,
- 1:16:52Kody says. I have two wives who think
- 1:16:56sharing a kitchen can be abusive.
- 1:16:58OK, two wives. So he specifically says I have
- 1:17:06He doesn't even say like he's putting the blame on them.
- 1:17:11OK, Yeah. Right, who think it can be
- 1:17:14abusive Now he doesn't say it like that.
- 1:17:17He basically is like, scared. And he even says, like, I'm not
- 1:17:20going to let Joe push this idea on me.
- 1:17:23This is just not something that we're going to try again.
- 1:17:27And I think it's something that my family is still probably
- 1:17:30never going to get over. And then we go to the couch
- 1:17:35where the Browns are having their confessional.
- 1:17:37And Meri says that she takes that statement personally
- 1:17:41because she knows that Janelle thinks she abused her.
- 1:17:45Meri does start her statement by saying it makes me sad, Yeah,
- 1:17:49which I always have. I kind of have a hard time
- 1:17:52sometimes putting my thumb putting my finger on Meri's
- 1:17:55actual emotions because she'll say statements like it makes me
- 1:18:01sad and then cry about what she's talking about and I go
- 1:18:05like I don't know if she's really sad.
- 1:18:07I I have a hard time following it.
- 1:18:09It almost seems like maybe she just feels like she's getting
- 1:18:12called out on things. And she can't handle it and.
- 1:18:16She can't. I, I, I don't know.
- 1:18:17It's hard for me to navigate, but when she references, you
- 1:18:21know, the relationship at the beginning and she knows that
- 1:18:24Janelle thinks that she abused her, she's like, it was never my
- 1:18:31I'm sorry, Janelle. And it's like, well, she's
- 1:18:34literally is apologizing. She does apologize, and she says
- 1:18:43temper it. Yeah, and that Janelle didn't
- 1:18:45have that lot of a voice. And Janelle says that she didn't
- 1:19:03each other to feed his own ego. Wow, yeah.
- 1:19:06And I think that they're realizing it maybe for the first
- 1:19:13interviews. And I think it's super emotional
- 1:19:18realizing for the first time that Kody as the man of the
- 1:19:23house should have been the one based on their religion, based
- 1:19:34into this, right? Like everything's secretive,
- 1:19:37whatever, whatever. And then here you go.
- 1:19:39You're handed off to your husband who's supposed to know
- 1:19:44that's like a little pip squeak that doesn't step up.
- 1:19:47And they all just didn't know what to do.
- 1:19:51And I'm not saying that Kody bears all the responsibility and
- 1:19:56But then you go to a guy like Joe, who was probably in a
- 1:20:01similar situation, and yet it played out so differently.
- 1:20:06And I think that they're realizing for maybe like the
- 1:20:10first time. And it has been said in their
- 1:20:15original book and Christine's book.
- 1:20:17That they hadn't spoken openly until the couch interviews.
- 1:20:22Right. So I really truly think in real
- 1:20:26time we are seeing them realize Kody's faults.
- 1:20:31Yeah, not explicitly calling them out, just probably putting
- 1:20:37pieces together. Yeah, you're right.
- 1:20:39Christine references in her book and in Becoming Sister.
- 1:20:42Why? Well, talks about how.
- 1:20:44How hard it was? How?
- 1:20:46Hard it was to have these conversations because they
- 1:20:48didn't really have honest conversations.
- 1:20:50And then they have producers and directors prodding them, and
- 1:20:54Kody should have stepped up in that in some way.
- 1:20:58If he's supposed to be the goal. Between the the man of the
- 1:21:03house, whatever, you know, Meri was the first wife.
- 1:21:06So Joe married these two women at the same time.
- 1:21:10Meri did have the one up on being the first wife.
- 1:21:13And then Janelle came in and yeah, there's so many different
- 1:21:18dynamics happening here. But really, Kody does kind of
- 1:21:21make it seem like he has no part of it.
- 1:21:24No part of it, right? He's just these women against
- 1:21:27each other all the time. He's just the man.
- 1:21:30These women have issues. I'm going to step back.
- 1:21:32You guys make the decisions. He doesn't want to be the bad
- 1:21:35guy ever. Ever.
- 1:21:36No, no, no. He's going to let anyone else
- 1:21:38take the blame but him. And Meri was, you know, she
- 1:21:42probably was a bitch. She probably just said whatever
- 1:21:44was on her mind. And maybe if she didn't, even if
- 1:21:50rude, OK, well, that was her vibe.
- 1:21:53And she probably was allowed to get away with it because Kody
- 1:21:55didn't do anything. And then Janelle's like, why
- 1:21:58can't I have anything the way I want her?
- 1:22:00Why is everything that I do wrong, you know?
- 1:22:03And when you dig into like the
- 1:22:09plural marriage, historically,
- 1:22:14decisions and speaks for everybody.
- 1:22:19So if Meri really truly thought that that's what she was
- 1:22:23supposed to do, and if she was
- 1:22:27supposed to do, then she was doing it.
- 1:22:30And Janelle didn't come from that background.
- 1:22:32That's true. So she didn't know that like,
- 1:22:35oh, I'm going to be joining this
- 1:22:37And not only do I have to answer
- 1:22:40answer to Meri. And she's in charge of me as the
- 1:22:44first wife. So I think that there is bad
- 1:22:46communication on multiple levels.
- 1:22:50And when you look at what happened with Kody's father, he
- 1:22:58is in a plural marriage because of essentially cheating.
- 1:23:03And he put his wife, his first
- 1:23:07essentially cheating. And it's Polly under duress.
- 1:23:12But you know, the woman is subservient.
- 1:23:14So I had to step back and say,
- 1:23:18And yes, we're going to just change our religion and our
- 1:23:20outlook on life because the man says it's so.
- 1:23:24And so Kody is used to the women, like cowing to the man,
- 1:23:30but he doesn't know how to be the man.
- 1:23:33So like, how do you get these women to submit other than just
- 1:23:42plotting them against each other
- 1:23:45I'm curious about the elements
- 1:23:48So I totally agree with you about the Kody perspective or
- 1:23:52the Kody vibes. I think there's another thing
- 1:23:56too with them. I'm having flashbacks to the
- 1:24:01most recent season of Sister Wives where Janelle talks about
- 1:24:05like, shoving food down the sink
- 1:24:08piss Meri off. Janelle's not some like,
- 1:24:12delicate flower who was being stepped on by the big giant
- 1:24:15Meri. Like, I think Janelle let's the
- 1:24:19narrative play out the way it does because she doesn't look
- 1:24:22bad. Meri looks bad.
- 1:24:24Meri looks like the one who's the domineering harpy siren
- 1:24:27bitch. Everyone wants to.
- 1:24:29Everyone wants to get. Everyone wants to hate on Meri,
- 1:24:32but really I don't think definitely most of the onus has
- 1:24:37to come on Kody for not doing anything.
- 1:24:39Typical man, just to do that. But.
- 1:24:43If you're bringing women into this situation and you're
- 1:24:47supposed to be the head of the
- 1:24:49Yeah. This is why.
- 1:24:53Oh God, here she goes, girls. No, Oh my God, this is exactly
- 1:24:57why. It's like, all right, all of the
- 1:25:01wars, all of the like, I'm, I'm not even going to go into it,
- 1:25:06right. But like, Oh my God, men are so
- 1:25:10fucking stupid sometimes and they think they should be in
- 1:25:12charge and they can't handle it.
- 1:25:14Yeah, absolutely prime example of it.
- 1:25:16They can't even handle it in a situation like this, much less
- 1:25:21Yeah, yeah, he's. I digress.
- 1:25:23Run away and put his head in the sand and avoid it.
- 1:25:26And then if anything comes up, pit them against each other.
- 1:25:29Yeah, totally. Yeah, let me manipulate them
- 1:25:31into thinking that they're the ones that are wrong here.
- 1:25:33Oh. God, it's messy.
- 1:25:35It is, and they're realizing in front of us.
- 1:25:37None of us, yes, and they're putting pieces together, but
- 1:25:41also not allowed, not allowing each other, not allowing
- 1:25:44themselves to really tear into those things.
- 1:25:47Just probably get upset. Yeah.
- 1:25:49And, you know, I guess I'll give Meri kudos for apologizing to
- 1:25:53Janelle once again. I can't really read Meri
- 1:25:56sometimes, so sometimes even her apologies feel a little like, if
- 1:26:04I don't know. Like the way she words things is
- 1:26:16feeling on them, which is kind of like what you're taught to do
- 1:26:20Like you don't apologize for anything because that's like
- 1:26:24admitting wrongdoing. But you say like, oh, I'm sorry
- 1:26:28you had that experience or that you felt like it went that way.
- 1:26:32And so she's being very, I'm
- 1:26:33going to put this on them and not take the blame, but I think
- 1:26:39these emotions are real. OK.
- 1:26:41Yeah, I think that she actually feels really horrible and I
- 1:26:45don't think she ever would really mean to abuse somebody.
- 1:26:50So I think that she is remorseful.
- 1:26:53I agree with that. She literally says something
- 1:26:55like I didn't know it was too much at the time.
- 1:26:59Like she, she might have not known.
- 1:27:04I don't know. I just feel bad for both of them
- 1:27:06and I feel like Kody did feel them because if you're going to
- 1:27:09position yourself in this like
- 1:27:14stepping up to fulfill it, you
- 1:27:19That's true. That's true.
- 1:27:20That's like, just like a parent with like 2 little kids, you
- 1:27:24know, you're the parent, you're letting them down.
- 1:27:27We have to think of it like these women are kind of raised
- 1:27:31to be subservient and, like, childlike in some ways.
- 1:27:35And if, like, you know, if a parent's not stepping it up,
- 1:27:38kids aren't equipped to handle
- 1:27:42they're like, set up to fail. Yeah.
- 1:27:45Interesting transition point because then Joe starts talking
- 1:27:48about his business background and how he wanted to make a
- 1:27:53mission statement for their family because he always saw the
- 1:27:55value in that. I've been a part of a few
- 1:27:59mission statement exercises at
- 1:28:03And not necessarily like, oh, you're going to put it on a
- 1:28:07billboard or you're going to have it be your whatever, but
- 1:28:10like literally what is the mission of your team?
- 1:28:12What is your goal when you're coming to a decision point, when
- 1:28:16you're doing whatever, what is
- 1:28:19And this seems like it's triggered because of Kody's
- 1:28:23inability to lead his family. And they're sharing an example
- 1:28:27of it. It shows like hello this is what
- 1:28:29I've done. Joe says that he was surprised
- 1:28:32by how the conversation took a
- 1:28:35kitchen. Yeah.
- 1:28:36And so he brought up that he was
- 1:28:40made the wives write a mission
- 1:28:44wives separated and had time to write their own mission
- 1:28:49statement. And then they came together and
- 1:28:51took the parts that they each wanted and put it into one
- 1:28:57family mission statement. And Vicki again makes a comment
- 1:29:01like, what am I willing to sacrifice for this?
- 1:29:04What am I willing to sacrifice
- 1:29:07that I believe is like my true
- 1:29:10And then Joe calls out again, like, this is not for a moment.
- 1:29:13This is for forever. It is do or die.
- 1:29:17He literally says So for him, he's like, if I am running like
- 1:29:22my household, I am running it like a business and like I'm
- 1:29:27getting us to heaven. I'm getting yes it's for
- 1:29:30eternity and he makes. Us all in there.
- 1:29:33He's not making. It's no joke.
- 1:29:35And then this leads into them talking about how Joe gets to
- 1:29:38see his kids every day. And I thought this was a very
- 1:29:43interesting point because I don't know if they're aware.
- 1:29:47I mean, obviously they must know
- 1:29:50houses. There's some things it didn't
- 1:29:52come across as too much of A dig, but it's like a no.
- 1:29:56It's important for me to see my kids every day.
- 1:29:59That is part of their, I didn't share their mission statement,
- 1:30:03but I'm sure it's a crucial part
- 1:30:07that they are together every day.
- 1:30:09That's their family and it's important.
- 1:30:12Kody's bed checks, man. They're not happening.
- 1:30:15Oh yeah, no, those, yeah, those bed checks.
- 1:30:18Yeah. So with the Dargers, you know,
- 1:30:20bragging about their great family and how he's run like a
- 1:30:23business sailing and they have
- 1:30:28you know, they're back on the couch with the Browns and Kody
- 1:30:30asks if they should make a mission statement.
- 1:30:32And once again, we get to hear
- 1:30:36to do. And like, that's all good.
- 1:30:38Robyn says yes, she'd love to do
- 1:30:42Meri says sure, I'd be happy to do so.
- 1:30:46Christine says I always wanted
- 1:30:49I've always dreamed of a mission
- 1:30:52And then we get to Janelle and
- 1:30:57but I'll do it. He's like, OK, Janelle, all
- 1:31:04right. I mean, she's, I don't know if I
- 1:31:07want to say I don't like this about her, but she phones in so
- 1:31:10much stuff sometimes. Like it's like bitch, be a
- 1:31:12participant in your own life. I feel like she seems defeated
- 1:31:16because she was the one that was
- 1:31:20the homes together. We need to be together for the
- 1:31:23children. If you think back to the first
- 1:31:25season, she was all about together and togetherness and
- 1:31:29raising the children together.
- 1:31:34that and then you come to now and you're talking about the
- 1:31:38house budgets, and I think she's
- 1:31:44super defeated. Because I think if you would
- 1:31:46have asked Janelle this in Season 1, even Season 2, she
- 1:31:51would have been like gung ho about it.
- 1:31:54But she could fucking care less right now.
- 1:31:57Yeah, that's definitely the vibe.
- 1:31:59Yeah. Meri jokes that it's just
- 1:32:01another thing they can take on
- 1:32:06She's like, I could take another
- 1:32:08Dargers. And she's talking about Joe's
- 1:32:11big bald head. We cut back to the table.
- 1:32:18They're all talking about taking another trip next year.
- 1:32:20Ha ha, ha, ha. Look at our plague trip.
- 1:32:22Look at us polygamous. They're having so much fun.
- 1:32:25Janelle talks about how monogamous have many examples of
- 1:32:32things and polygamous have fewer.
- 1:32:34And this always strikes with me, and I've talked about it before
- 1:32:38on this show, that like as a little homosexual who is still
- 1:32:45queer people growing up. And the ones that were there
- 1:32:48were like either a stupid waiter that was silly or a tragic
- 1:32:53victim, someone who was on their deathbed or they were shunned by
- 1:32:59So there is an element of truth to that, and I get it.
- 1:33:02I think it's hard to carve your own.
- 1:33:05It's easier for me to have carved my own path because I am
- 1:33:08by myself, doing my thing. Whatever.
- 1:33:10When you're building a community
- 1:33:14little unit, that's there's so
- 1:33:19many more layers. Yeah.
- 1:33:20And at the time, like, you know,
- 1:33:24Janelle and Kody talking about
- 1:33:29they're giving shots of all of
- 1:33:33shots. Oh, of the of their current
- 1:33:36homes outside. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:33:38And then we get a comment from
- 1:33:44the Browns just have chaotic bliss.
- 1:33:47They're living in chaotic bliss.
- 1:33:50Chaotic bliss and Kody says, well, we've moved from reacting
- 1:33:54to situations to planning for them and I'm going.
- 1:33:57I think that's a bit optimistic of your view.
- 1:34:01Like, OK, so after three seasons now or two, let's go with two.
- 1:34:11You literally thought you're going to move into a rich
- 1:34:13person's house that was evacuated in a Russian had four
- 1:34:16kitchens. You are not a planner, Sir.
- 1:34:18You are reacting to situations. Still, what a joke.
- 1:34:22But then, he says, the homes are the first big plan we finally
- 1:34:27have. It's a beautiful thing.
- 1:34:29Christine says that I think the houses are going to be better
- 1:34:32than what we had in Lehigh. Interesting foreshadowing.
- 1:34:35Not only that it's not going to be better, but that she doesn't
- 1:34:41want to live with the other women.
- 1:34:45She does not want to live with her sister wives.
- 1:34:48And then we cut away with another gorgeous Ariel shot of
- 1:34:58words. There will be another learning
- 1:35:04So. So we're floating away with the
- 1:35:07cul de sacs and Meri's quote. And it's just a disaster.
- 1:35:12This family is a mess. If you guys are still here with
- 1:35:16us, we made it through the episode.
- 1:35:17There is a coming up on at the end, which Kimber had a visceral
- 1:35:27who've seen the show know that what I'm going to talk about,
- 1:35:30which is the debate discussion with the Browns and some former
- 1:35:34polygamists who are all like, girl, this ain't right, This
- 1:35:38ain't right, this is bad. And we get that girl with the
- 1:35:42bleach, bleach, bleach. Kimber, I would like for you to
- 1:35:45actually describe what this woman looks like, 'cause I'm,
- 1:35:48I'm, I'm not going to give it justice.
- 1:35:49That hair is fried, dyed and laid to the side.
- 1:35:53And it is. Blown back upward and
- 1:35:57hairsprayed to the high heavens. And it is so far gone that it's
- 1:36:03behind Jesus's back. It's so good.
- 1:36:05I was like, Kimberly, you look like this girl I think I've
- 1:36:08seen. Photos where you kind?
- 1:36:10Of. You kind of look.
- 1:36:11Like this girl? No, my head the.
- 1:36:14Side of my head was fully shaved.
- 1:36:16I was a little more aggressive. You were a little more emo.
- 1:36:20Yeah, yeah, yeah, I was. Taken aback by this.
- 1:36:26Side to be coming. What are they to be coming?
- 1:36:30What do they call it? I just call it coming up on so I
- 1:36:36Dot, dot, are you familiar with this girl?
- 1:36:39Do you know who she is? No.
- 1:36:41OK, see this, what I love is like she's a bit of a she's a
- 1:36:47benchmark in this show. Like next step is I'm really
- 1:36:50looking forward to next episode because she lets them have it.
- 1:36:56What I got to say is I watched. The first.
- 1:36:59Probably like 3. Seasons of the show while they
- 1:37:08I've said, I've seen snippets here and there on social media
- 1:37:16started, I didn't start watching again, but I was listening.
- 1:37:21And when we decided to take on this adventure together as bosom
- 1:37:33watch clips on social media. I've been avoiding it because I
- 1:37:38want real time like reactions from myself and I want to learn
- 1:37:43as I would have learned the first time watching it through.
- 1:37:47Yes, I'm just so looking forward
- 1:37:49to hearing your opinions about
- 1:37:51Young, sassy, bleach blonde, lots of eye makeup and she knows
- 1:37:58everything. OK, so I'm excited to hear what
- 1:38:01you have. So she's like me, maybe when you
- 1:38:05were younger and you thought. You knew everything.
- 1:38:07Not like today, not like today, not like the Harley, not like
- 1:38:11the shrew you are today. So when we've.
- 1:38:14Started recording you. Referenced that you looked up
- 1:38:17the Dargers because we were wondering about what was going
- 1:38:20on with them or who they were.
- 1:38:23have had a show. What are we circling back to in
- 1:38:27your, you know, very deep scholastic searching?
- 1:38:32Yeah. So this was two years ago.
- 1:38:36They're still together. Joe has issued a public
- 1:38:39criticism of Kody, and he has blamed the demise of the family
- 1:38:44on Kody. That's kind of all I know.
- 1:38:48He's still married to them, I think.
- 1:38:52And Oh my God, this gets even worse.
- 1:38:57He married Alina and Vicki, who are cousins, on the same day
- 1:39:03and then ten years later he married Vicky's twin sister,
- 1:39:07Valerie Val. They didn't tell us that they
- 1:39:10were cousins. Incidentally, Joe's.
- 1:39:14Late uncle was the ex. Husband of Christine Brown's
- 1:39:19anti polygamist aunt, right? This shit gets even crazier.
- 1:39:26Apparently they filmed a pilot.
- 1:39:28For a proposed reality show house full of spouses.
- 1:39:32And they gained notoriety through the book so they didn't
- 1:39:35have a show. It was the book love times 3.
- 1:39:39So they were trying to get their own show basically is what I'm
- 1:39:52Pilot for a show called House Full of Spouses.
- 1:39:55Oh, God, I love this. The Google AI thing says Joe
- 1:40:01Darger is married to twin sisters Vicki and Valerie and
- 1:40:05their cousin Alina. Yeah, whoa.
- 1:40:09People are like to. Be honest, the family creeped me
- 1:40:15Blah. Blah blah.
- 1:40:15And I'm like. This so interesting because like
- 1:40:24Wow, I totally thought they had their own show.
- 1:40:30I. Didn't.
- 1:40:30I did not know or think that, but I was thinking.
- 1:40:34Like it would be interesting if they had done a spinoff with
- 1:40:38another family, you know? To me they didn't seem terribly
- 1:40:43creepy. Or weird.
- 1:40:45Or strange. It's hard to say that about a
- 1:40:48family like this when you read the bullet points on a Google
- 1:40:52search and it's like Joe Darger married twin sisters and then
- 1:40:56their cousin like, Oh my God. Oh no you guys this is don't
- 1:41:04know what is happening. My entire existence just
- 1:41:07crumbled in front of my eyes. Apparently one of the sons has
- 1:41:21Boy Scout leader. You totally.
- 1:41:23Yeah, I guess I, I just got to say like, any of these things,
- 1:41:34Like, yeah, there's problems everywhere.
- 1:41:36And you like you cannot. Just based.
- 1:41:40On one episode judge anybody. I mean, I think it's hard to put
- 1:41:50like narcissists are very good at putting on a complete front.
- 1:41:54That's true.
- 1:41:56The also some of these search results connect.
- 1:41:59Big Love, that scripted show, they are considered inspiration
- 1:42:03for the HBO series Big Love, specifically the character Bill
- 1:42:06Hendrickson. And they knew the actor Bill
- 1:42:09Paxton, who played the lead in
- 1:42:15God, this is even their story and the connectivity to this
- 1:42:19show is incestuous. And that's not even talking
- 1:42:21about how they're incestuous. Yeah, I am going to have to like
- 1:42:26put together a list of. Shows that I think that people
- 1:42:30should watch if they're interested even further in the
- 1:42:33history of Mormonism and polygamy because I just think
- 1:42:39that there is there's a lot of
- 1:42:44right? There's a lot of crazy history
- 1:42:47and manipulation and I, I truly think a lot of religion was set
- 1:42:54up by the higher ups as a manipulation tactic, right?
- 1:43:01And I think a lot of these people are brainwashed.
- 1:43:06I don't know, I, I'm a bit speechless.
- 1:43:11I know, I feel. Like bring it back.
- 1:43:13It's so weird. It's just so weird.
- 1:43:16That we just rehashed. This entire episode and then to
- 1:43:20find out these things that were not presented.
- 1:43:23It's also another example of reality TV editing producers
- 1:43:28some, they were setting up this whole thing to try to get these
- 1:43:31people a show. They were trying to sell a book
- 1:43:33or they sold a book. They were doing these things
- 1:43:36meanwhile. I mean, I guess it's just taking
- 1:43:40what we already knew and making it a little worse.
- 1:43:43I can't believe that they were
- 1:43:46man. Tin foil hats, baby.
- 1:43:49I got to say, I'm very curious.
- 1:43:51I want. To do some more like digging
- 1:43:53into this family because the wool could have been pulled over
- 1:44:00could have been like it has been with Kody.
- 1:44:02Like narcissists have a good way of like hiding their true
- 1:44:05colors. Who knows what's really going on
- 1:44:09the children in the one scene. Who knows what that means?
- 1:44:14So I think that to really draw conclusions, I don't want to
- 1:44:19ruin the Brown story for myself, which is why I haven't been
- 1:44:23watching stuff. But I I'm going to look into
- 1:44:26this and maybe at the start of next episode, we'll come back
- 1:44:30with some answers about where this family is at today, because
- 1:44:35I don't know. We'll figure out interesting way
- 1:44:44there's some tie insurance. OK.
- 1:44:47The Dargers. Man, I don't even know what to
- 1:44:52I don't. Know, yeah, mind blown.
- 1:44:53We're going to look into it a little bit.
- 1:44:55I want to come back. With some answers for everybody.
- 1:45:01I love it. This is going to help me with my
- 1:45:03shit stain, that's for sure. So darling, would you like to
- 1:45:07start with your mustard seed for
- 1:45:09Who really made you feel like they could be a tree under the
- 1:45:13sun for the children to sit under and get some shade when
- 1:45:17they grow up? Because you.
- 1:45:18Know now they're just a seed. Going in the ground, everybody
- 1:45:21in this episode seemed very like.
- 1:45:27We're putting on a happy face,
- 1:45:29And like we're doing this. Agreed.
- 1:45:31And I don't know if anybody, like, truly shone through the
- 1:45:35clouds for me, but I would probably say that it was
- 1:45:45Christine. Okay?
- 1:45:48There's really no other reason
- 1:45:53Yeah, like she's talking about
- 1:45:57I'd be open to. One of like the kids getting
- 1:46:00like married to one of the other
- 1:46:03them. And like, her naivete is like
- 1:46:08endearing sometimes. And I think she was like truly
- 1:46:13raised in this religion and like
- 1:46:16in her family. And I really think she's like so
- 1:46:21naive sometimes. And that's not usually like a,
- 1:46:26an endearing quality. But in episodes like this or
- 1:46:32sometimes when you're like screaming out loud, why does
- 1:46:36nobody see this? At least I can look to her and
- 1:46:40be like, I think because she really, truly doesn't see this
- 1:46:46because she was raised in it and
- 1:46:49of way. And I don't know, I think there
- 1:46:52is a lot of sincerity to her because she's so naive and she
- 1:46:57has a lot of little like cute moments throughout that episode
- 1:47:02that are drawn back to the naivete.
- 1:47:05That's all I that's like all like, I really don't think
- 1:47:08there's a shining star here. No, there definitely is not.
- 1:47:11I think I'm going to default to.
- 1:47:14Giving my mustard seed to Logan because when the kids were at
- 1:47:21the Cruising Cafe 101, he was speaking for the.
- 1:47:26Family in a way that. Didn't feel terrible to me and
- 1:47:37That was great. It was a 44 minute episode of 50
- 1:47:55Going to give it to Logan 'cause I don't really see anybody.
- 1:47:58Else worthy of it. So that's what I'm defaulting
- 1:48:01to. And I mean, I'm Team Logan, so
- 1:48:07I'm going to give my shit stain. To Carl, and don't you fucking
- 1:48:20'Cause. He had .5 seconds on a show that
- 1:48:31a face for a business. And he says a sexist joke about
- 1:48:37having a daughter and a female dog, a female dog.
- 1:48:42And he's got too many chicks in his life and he's getting them
- 1:48:56here, Carl, if that's your real name, you sexist bastard.
- 1:49:01And I you know what if the. Brown Curse If the brown curse
- 1:49:13been browned? Browned.
- 1:49:15He's making a big X with his arms right now.
- 1:49:19I love that. Thank you for the comment left
- 1:49:28brought. It is goodbye.
- 1:49:29You're there? Yeah.
- 1:49:30Goodbye. Goodbye.
- 1:49:32Yeah, definitely. He's terrible.
- 1:49:36We all know everyone's fucking terrible.
- 1:49:38In the family. So I just got to say that I
- 1:49:41know. I think my shit stain I feel
- 1:49:43like I have to give it to. Joe Darger because like you,
- 1:49:49married cousins and then married one of their twin sisters.
- 1:49:55I am in shock. They did not tell us that they
- 1:50:00Which is a production issue. It's not necessarily his issue,
- 1:50:04but he married Cousins on the same day that look like twins.
- 1:50:14I went from going like, this guy's not that.
- 1:50:18Bad to this guy's terrible. I literally with blind optimism
- 1:50:22was watching this whole episode like.
- 1:50:24You should be the outline for the Browns like.
- 1:50:29What are the? Browns.
- 1:50:30What are the Browns doing? And now I'm like, what are the
- 1:50:37As if I didn't already think marrying sisters was bad and I
- 1:50:45being way. Too generous to.
- 1:50:47Him way too generous. The big bald.
- 1:50:51And intimidating. Joe Darger.
- 1:50:54Oh, wow. I am.
- 1:50:56I am in shock. We're in shock.
- 1:51:00Shock shooketh to the core. In shock.
- 1:51:03I just don't even know what to say.
- 1:51:05Our keep sweet moment this episode.
- 1:51:07Comes to us from Spotify. It is a comment from Fab Poppy.
- 1:51:11Hello Fab Poppy.
- 1:51:13Hello Poppy. Fab Poppy says.
- 1:51:15I've binged all the previous episodes.
- 1:51:18And finally. Caught up to today and now I
- 1:51:20feel lost. What do you mean?
- 1:51:22I have to wait a week for a new episode now?
- 1:51:24I love your show. Well, fab Poppy, you know,
- 1:51:30hopefully you have as low opinion about the Darkers as I
- 1:51:33do. Now I'm rendered speechless on a
- 1:51:36podcast. I don't even know what to say.
- 1:51:39Buy me a Margarita? Well, this is it.
- 1:51:41Maybe the tequila clouded my judgment and I thought that.
- 1:51:43Joe Darger was a good. Guy, but turns out he's just
- 1:51:46like a big penis. Honey, what's been your excuse
- 1:51:49for the last? Like I won't even say how many
- 1:51:51years then. How do you say touché in
- 1:51:54Spanish?
