- 0:28Hey, everybody. Good morning from the chicken
- 0:30coop. So today the question of the day
- 0:33is how do you show respect to people that are in your life or
- 0:37that you just run into during the day?
- 0:39How do you choose to show respect?
- 0:42This is a tricky 1 when you start to think about it, because
- 0:45most of us don't use that word until it's violated.
- 0:48So we know when we feel offended by the fact that we haven't had
- 0:53some sort of respect expressed to us, but we don't necessarily
- 0:57understand on the front side if we're delivering it regularly.
- 1:02Like if you stop and pause right now and actually take in a
- 1:05second and say, OK, who are the people closest to me?
- 1:08Am I giving them respect? You'll probably.
- 1:11Be like, hmm, I don't know. OK, let me think about that.
- 1:13Well, I think, I am sure. I think I'm doing a good job of
- 1:15that. But now here's where it gets
- 1:18even more complicated. The plot thickens, so to speak.
- 1:23Does that person believe that you respect them?
- 1:26Does that person that's opposite you believe that you actually
- 1:30have respect for them? And respect is a very big deal
- 1:33among human beings because we feel like that's something
- 1:36that's just it is something that you either have it or you don't,
- 1:40but you actually give it to people and you actually give
- 1:44that as a gift when you say yes, I respect this person and I
- 1:46treat them a certain way because I respect this.
- 1:49Now I'll tell you the reason this came up was because of my
- 1:52son and his job and he the 2 owners of the company, he just
- 1:57has such respect for them. He uses Mr. every time he speaks
- 2:01to them. He calls Mr. Greg and he's just
- 2:05he is very, very, very enamored with how they have treated him
- 2:10and how they have just. Treated him with respect.
- 2:14And I asked him the question. I said, you really love working
- 2:17there. Yes.
- 2:18And he said, Oh yeah, he's like, you know what, Mom?
- 2:20They treat me with respect. And I was like, he goes, I'm
- 2:23only 14, but they treat me with respect.
- 2:25And I thought, wow, like that is such an interesting thing.
- 2:29So I asked him, how do you know who treats you with respect?
- 2:32And he said well because. He's so he speaks to me very
- 2:37clearly, very nicely. He always Pats me on the back.
- 2:40He always tells me that I'm doing a good job.
- 2:43And he listed off this whole thing and I said to him, and all
- 2:47that comes under the umbrella of what bud and he said.
- 2:51Respect. So he said they like me, they
- 2:54respect me and they they like the work I do.
- 2:57And I thought, isn't that interesting?
- 2:58Because most of us can't say that about other people.
- 3:01We can't say that we are clear on how this person is delivering
- 3:06respect to us. So even if it's our significant
- 3:09other, our children, our children speak.
- 3:12Nasty to us and believe me, my son is wonderful.
- 3:15As he just sounded in that moment, he has spoken nastily to
- 3:18me. So there are moments when you
- 3:20could say he is disrespectful and we understand.
- 3:24Like I said at the beginning of this, we understand what it
- 3:27looks like on the negative side. We understand what disrespect
- 3:30looks like. But how do you determine
- 3:32respect? And how do you know when you're
- 3:34delivering it to the other person And this, this falls
- 3:39into, you know, the connection of languages and how we.
- 3:42Side Okay, is somebody actually respecting me?
- 3:46Do we know our rules for it? And if we don't know our rules
- 3:48for respect, then chances are they're getting violated daily.
- 3:53So you know it. It's it's like we want to
- 3:56believe that we have it all nailed down and that we've got
- 3:59this set in our head. But the truth is 9 times out of
- 4:0210. We don't, We don't have it clear
- 4:04in our heads. So therefore we struggle with
- 4:07that piece of it. We really struggle trying to
- 4:09figure out what's the best way to gain these things because we
- 4:14feel like we know when they're violated, but we're not doing a
- 4:16good job clearing it up with people around us and saying, you
- 4:19know what, that felt this way. But this is how I determine
- 4:23respect and this is a way to show it.
- 4:25Now obviously I say this a lot on this podcast, but I will
- 4:28reiterate it just to make sure everyone's clear on it.
- 4:31When emotions are up, this is not the time to do this
- 4:34exercise. So when you start to feel like
- 4:37you're angry, irritated, pissed off, whatever you want to call
- 4:40it, this is not the time to start examining these things.
- 4:44You do it when your emotions are normal, when they're just even
- 4:47keel, steady, Eddy, so to speak. You're just at that place where
- 4:52you're not offended, you're not exuberant, you're just right in
- 4:56the middle of the road. And then you'll start to see
- 4:58some things. So the challenge of the day is
- 5:01to go off and figure that piece out for yourself, not only for
- 5:05you. How do you determine someone's
- 5:07respecting you, but how do the people around you closest expect
- 5:13it? So that you know how to deliver
- 5:14it? So that you know that they are
- 5:16being in taken care of on the subject as well, That they are
- 5:19feeling respected? Because if they're not, that's a
- 5:22very intrinsic part of a problem with the relationship.
- 5:25So keep that in mind. Do some Dig Deeping.
- 5:28Dig Deeping. Deep digging, said that one
- 5:31backwards and get going with it because it makes all the
- 5:36difference in the world to somebody when you are able to do
- 5:39that, when you are able to pull yourself back around and
- 5:42actually say, OK, I can do this, wow, it makes a huge difference
- 5:46to how everybody feels. OK, my friends, have a blessed
- 5:49day and I'll see you tomorrow. Bye.
