- 0:19Speaker 1: Guthrim Bifter.
- 0:20Speaker 2: We're Doomslige band from Sydney and we're putting out our
- 0:24Speaker 2: first track off our upcoming record. The single is called
- 0:28Speaker 2: March of the Imp and the record's going to be
- 0:31Speaker 2: called First Impressions of Hell, which that will be coming
- 0:34Speaker 2: out in full around April.
- 0:36Speaker 3: So yeah, fantastic, thanks for joining us today.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Thanks for having me. Man appreciate it.
- 0:43Speaker 3: As you say.
- 0:44Speaker 4: Man our premiering the music video for your new single,
- 0:48Speaker 4: March of the Imp via Heavy on February eleventh, with
- 0:51Speaker 4: a single being released on this Friday, mate, So how
- 0:55Speaker 4: you feel about it?
- 0:56Speaker 1: Oh, we're stokes mate.
- 0:58Speaker 2: It's been as you know, in this biness, it's a
- 1:00Speaker 2: long time coming when you start recording to when you
- 1:02Speaker 2: start putting stuff out. So it's been a long road
- 1:05Speaker 2: and we're super proud of what we've what we've managed
- 1:08Speaker 2: to produce here with this upcoming record. So we're often
- 1:12Speaker 2: to get it out on Tuesday. To be honest and tell.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Us about the song from musical point of view and
- 1:18Speaker 3: what are you going for with it?
- 1:20Speaker 5: Uh?
- 1:20Speaker 1: Yeah, So much of the Imp is pretty well.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Our mats in Mourner's described it as a sort of
- 1:27Speaker 2: dungeon sludge and it's kind of a it's a kind
- 1:32Speaker 2: of a cool little song, just it kind of builds
- 1:36Speaker 2: from the start to the end, but it's essentially describing
- 1:41Speaker 2: a story of a battle between the human beings and
- 1:46Speaker 2: the ungodly creatures that are the imp And we've got
- 1:50Speaker 2: we've got two vocalists in the band, Rory Anstrak, and
- 1:54Speaker 2: they do a really cool like what do you call it,
- 1:57Speaker 2: like back and forth in between the verses to this
- 2:00Speaker 2: gribe the story. So yeah, it all kind of builds
- 2:03Speaker 2: up to a really heavy, sludge ridden ending.
- 2:09Speaker 1: So yeah, it's not a song. It's not a TikTok song.
- 2:12Speaker 2: We can sort of just listen to the first five seconds,
- 2:14Speaker 2: but I definitely recommend taking the whole journey nice.
- 2:19Speaker 4: And the music video must be pretty special too, mate,
- 2:21Speaker 4: if you're making its way to next four days for
- 2:23Speaker 4: it's what's so good?
- 2:28Speaker 1: Well, we actually had a thick time filming it.
- 2:31Speaker 2: We filmed it out I from Malabarre in New South
- 2:34Speaker 2: Wales here and we filmed it out one of the
- 2:37Speaker 2: old war tunnels from around where I grow up. So
- 2:39Speaker 2: it was pretty special for me to film out there.
- 2:43Speaker 2: And we made a really cool storyline which we'll leave
- 2:47Speaker 2: for We'll leave for Tuesday. But our videographer, man Cal Cinema,
- 2:53Speaker 2: that has just made like a phenomenal little clip for us,
- 2:57Speaker 2: which is just the perfect amount of tongue in cheek
- 3:01Speaker 2: balanced out with some fucking some really heavy riff and
- 3:04Speaker 2: doom scenes and some some bit of murder, bit of violence,
- 3:09Speaker 2: and it's all but it's all a bit of fun
- 3:10Speaker 2: in the end. So yeah, we just can't well to
- 3:16Speaker 2: put it in perspective. We filmed it all in one
- 3:19Speaker 2: day and like Cal was so excited about the project
- 3:22Speaker 2: and how fun it was to film that he went
- 3:24Speaker 2: home and just edited the whole thing in one night.
- 3:27Speaker 2: So yeah, we're really happy with it, and we think
- 3:31Speaker 2: it just like accentuates like the album in general, and
- 3:35Speaker 2: like the viber going for it. So we've sort of
- 3:38Speaker 2: come out hitting with one of our heavier, heavier tracks
- 3:42Speaker 2: to start for the first single because we just wanted
- 3:44Speaker 2: to hit the ground running nice.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Now, much of bes taken from your new album First
- 3:49Speaker 4: Impression to the Hell, which comes out in April.
- 3:51Speaker 3: So is it a good sodic representation of what do
- 3:53Speaker 3: you expect?
- 3:56Speaker 1: It is? It definitely is.
- 3:57Speaker 2: But I also think the best thing about the album
- 4:00Speaker 2: and about BIFTU sound in general, is that, like we're
- 4:03Speaker 2: pretty unique in we kind of we weave a bit
- 4:09Speaker 2: of a tapestry in between different genres, especially like within
- 4:13Speaker 2: one song we could be go. We pride ourselves on
- 4:16Speaker 2: doing some cool changeups, whether it be like old school
- 4:20Speaker 2: traditional doom riff breakdowns or like utilizing our two vocals
- 4:25Speaker 2: to like really give a sludgy edge to some of
- 4:28Speaker 2: our breakdowns, Whereas we've still got some fast stone of
- 4:31Speaker 2: rifts in there as well, and we kind of pride
- 4:33Speaker 2: ourselves on blending all that together, and that's what you're
- 4:36Speaker 2: going to get in the album. It's like it we
- 4:39Speaker 2: try to make it kind of metaphorical, like first impressions
- 4:42Speaker 2: of Hell, you've just died, You're at the gates. That's
- 4:46Speaker 2: essentially the artwork of the record, and that's kind of
- 4:50Speaker 2: what we wanted it to metaphorically be like you're holding
- 4:53Speaker 2: that record and you're about to go on a journey
- 4:56Speaker 2: and if nothing else that this record definitely is that.
- 5:01Speaker 4: First impression. As the Hell is actually a concept album
- 5:04Speaker 4: as well. Bro So run us through What's Happening?
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yeah, Well, as I just mentioned, we've worked with rock sadistic,
- 5:12Speaker 2: this old school heavy metal artists from Sydney. He's just
- 5:16Speaker 2: been an absolute legend for had a bit of a
- 5:21Speaker 2: meeting with him about the concept of it and what
- 5:23Speaker 2: I wanted out of the art, and he just made
- 5:25Speaker 2: this amazing oil painting for us of this like dude
- 5:28Speaker 2: at the Gates of Hell, just like surrounded by all
- 5:31Speaker 2: these like hell demons and shit. So it's like it's
- 5:36Speaker 2: kind of like when you're holding that record, we wanted
- 5:38Speaker 2: it to be like you're transforming yourself into that person,
- 5:41Speaker 2: like you're standing at the gates You're about to, yeah,
- 5:44Speaker 2: undertake that journey. And yeah, we've got like samples and
- 5:49Speaker 2: a bunch of cool stuff like mixed in throughout the
- 5:51Speaker 2: whole album as well, which kind of makes it, yeah,
- 5:54Speaker 2: a bit of a bit of an atmosphere as well.
- 5:57Speaker 2: It's not just like a couple of songs strung together
- 6:00Speaker 2: like it's Yeah, it's a full concept runner.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Is it about one man's journey into Hell?
- 6:06Speaker 1: Basically, Yeah, that's it.
- 6:08Speaker 2: It's just one man, like one man or one person's
- 6:12Speaker 2: as soon as you've died, it's like you're at the
- 6:14Speaker 2: gates of Hell, and like every song kind of drifts
- 6:19Speaker 2: in and out of genres, and even as I mentioned before,
- 6:22Speaker 2: within the song, we shift between genres and that's kind
- 6:24Speaker 2: of our songwriting style. So I think it gives it
- 6:27Speaker 2: like a really like how do.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I describe it, Like like.
- 6:32Speaker 2: A movie style, like like you're reading a movie score
- 6:35Speaker 2: or something, and it's like moves through stages as you
- 6:39Speaker 2: go through the record.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Where as much of the infit into the screen.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Much to the IMP is the first song on the
- 6:47Speaker 2: second side, so it has a pretty haunting little what
- 6:54Speaker 2: did I say before the sample intro to the second
- 6:57Speaker 2: side of the record, and then that's the first and
- 7:03Speaker 2: then that kind of Yeah, as I said, we kind
- 7:05Speaker 2: of flow up and down in between some heavy dooming,
- 7:09Speaker 2: like heavy dooming, slow paced sort of i'd say doom
- 7:14Speaker 2: sludge tracks mixed in with some like stone of rock
- 7:18Speaker 2: heavy but fast, faster riffing stuff. And we also have
- 7:24Speaker 2: a lot of interplay between the vocals as well, with
- 7:26Speaker 2: like Rory taking the lead on some songs, Shrek takes
- 7:31Speaker 2: the lead on a few of the other songs, but
- 7:33Speaker 2: then they work together on a few, like on much
- 7:36Speaker 2: of the IMP as well.
- 7:37Speaker 4: So does it make it difficult decided what singles to release?
- 7:41Speaker 4: Because they all tell different parts of the story, like.
- 7:45Speaker 2: That was that was definitely a big factor in it
- 7:50Speaker 2: because we got there's a lot of like that's one
- 7:56Speaker 2: thing about the album. Everyone's really proud of, like all
- 7:58Speaker 2: the songs. So we a real hard time like picking
- 8:01Speaker 2: what would be best, especially for a single as well.
- 8:03Speaker 2: You're like, oh, don't want to put the seven minute
- 8:07Speaker 2: super doom track that's belly called Belly of the Beast
- 8:10Speaker 2: like at the end of which is at the end
- 8:12Speaker 2: of the record, and probably like it's probably one of
- 8:14Speaker 2: the best tracks, but maybe not suited to a single.
- 8:18Speaker 2: But then we're like, we still don't want to go
- 8:20Speaker 2: and put it one of the two to three minute
- 8:22Speaker 2: like tracks out there, because we feel like maybe that's
- 8:24Speaker 2: not enough time to really grasp like what we're going
- 8:27Speaker 2: for on the album.
- 8:28Speaker 1: And like in terms of.
- 8:30Speaker 2: The mixing and just the vibe we got off much
- 8:33Speaker 2: of the imp in the studio, Like I think that's
- 8:35Speaker 2: what it came down to, just the the heaviness and
- 8:38Speaker 2: just the the duel into play between the vocals that
- 8:42Speaker 2: we achieved on that track. I think that was like
- 8:45Speaker 2: kind of what made us decide in the end to
- 8:47Speaker 2: put that out first. And just come out swinging.
- 8:50Speaker 4: And so when it comes to playing them live, are
- 8:52Speaker 4: you going to have to play the songs in chronological
- 8:54Speaker 4: order from the album or would they still make sense
- 8:57Speaker 4: out of order?
- 8:58Speaker 5: Ah?
- 8:58Speaker 1: No, they feel they're not.
- 9:00Speaker 2: It's not like, Yeah, you don't have to listen to
- 9:03Speaker 2: him in the album order to get the vibe of
- 9:06Speaker 2: the theme.
- 9:06Speaker 1: It's kind of just like thematics throughout the songs.
- 9:09Speaker 2: But yeah, definitely you were able to listen to yeah,
- 9:14Speaker 2: any songs that you want really as in our live show,
- 9:19Speaker 2: we do have a few that link up like the album,
- 9:22Speaker 2: but we also have changed it around a bit just
- 9:24Speaker 2: to make the flow of the live set a little
- 9:27Speaker 2: bit better.
- 9:27Speaker 1: So yeah, either.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Way, speaking a libro, you've got a big couple of
- 9:32Speaker 3: months coming up.
- 9:33Speaker 4: So we're going to start with your first international support
- 9:36Speaker 4: for Sweden's Green Leaf on February twenty second.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Mate, that's just that's going to make you pretty happy.
- 9:42Speaker 1: Oh mate.
- 9:44Speaker 2: We were stoked when we got the call up for
- 9:46Speaker 2: that one and shout out to Anthony from your Mate
- 9:49Speaker 2: Bookings putting us on. I actually sent him the first
- 9:52Speaker 2: mixes because he was looking for supports. He announced the
- 9:56Speaker 2: show and I was like Oh, I know, I'm going
- 9:57Speaker 2: to have to get him quick. But we only had
- 9:59Speaker 2: the mixes of the album, so I shot them off
- 10:02Speaker 2: to him and he was like because he was, yeah,
- 10:07Speaker 2: just stoked with it and gave us some really good
- 10:09Speaker 2: feedback which got us even more to like get the
- 10:12Speaker 2: masters done. So he essentially decided to give us a
- 10:15Speaker 2: crack off that. And since we've got the masters of
- 10:19Speaker 2: the album back and we've been like trying to pick
- 10:22Speaker 2: up a few gigs and build this little record tour.
- 10:25Speaker 2: It's stuff's just been coming out of the woodwork since then.
- 10:27Speaker 2: So very stoked with how the live shows are going.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Nice.
- 10:31Speaker 4: And you've got a few other live shows coming up too, man,
- 10:33Speaker 4: you want to tell us about them?
- 10:35Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 10:35Speaker 2: Man, We're actually gearing up to play the official party,
- 10:39Speaker 2: the official after party of the Belco Bowl Jam in
- 10:42Speaker 2: two weeks, which is down in Canberra.
- 10:43Speaker 1: It's like the biggest.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Skateboard competition in Australia pretty much. It's been running for
- 10:49Speaker 2: twenty five years, so we're like super privileged to be
- 10:54Speaker 2: playing the official after party for that.
- 10:56Speaker 1: It's just going to be absolutely loose. We cannot wait.
- 11:00Speaker 2: And then after that we've got the Green Leaf one
- 11:03Speaker 2: then we've got in March. We're playing a Sydney show
- 11:06Speaker 2: at the Botany View Hotel on March the eighth with
- 11:09Speaker 2: scum Fu and Nunchucker Superfly. Then we are getting a
- 11:16Speaker 2: few tour shows to be announced upper Coast and a
- 11:19Speaker 2: few rural shows locked in for late in March. Then
- 11:23Speaker 2: April rolls around and we're getting up to Queensland hopefully.
- 11:27Speaker 2: We're just confirming a show early April up there as
- 11:30Speaker 2: we speak. And then we've got Sunburned Stone and Doom
- 11:36Speaker 2: down in Melbourne, the ultimate festival for us pretty much,
- 11:41Speaker 2: and we're dropping the full album there, so nice on.
- 11:44Speaker 4: That and the best face for people to follow Bifter
