- 0:00Speaker 1: One of the things that makes recruiting in the state
- 0:02Speaker 1: of Florida so interesting is that the Gators and the
- 0:04Speaker 1: Hurricanes are constantly going after many of the same players.
- 0:09Speaker 1: And with the 2020 class already taking shape, there are
- 0:12Speaker 1: some pretty interesting battles that are developing. Joining me now
- 0:16Speaker 1: is Danny Enriquez from Canes Insight to give the Miami
- 0:20Speaker 1: perspective on some of these recruits, where the Hurricane stands.
- 0:23Speaker 1: and just how much of a threat Florida is in
- 0:26Speaker 1: some of these recruitments. This is A Peak Inside Gator
- 0:30Speaker 1: Football brought to you by PrizePix. Guys, don't forget, download
- 0:33Speaker 1: the app. If you're a new user, play a $ 5
- 0:35Speaker 1: lineup and use our code.
- 0:36Speaker 2: It's HMA. If you win, you'll get $ 150 in lineups instantly. Dani,
- 0:41Speaker 2: thanks for joining me.
- 0:42Speaker 1: We get to, you know, go back and forth a
- 0:44Speaker 1: lot on State of the State, but this is the
- 0:47Speaker 1: first time you've come over here.
- 0:48Speaker 2: So welcome.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Welcome. Yeah, no TJ dragging us down with this Noel depression,
- 0:52Speaker 3: you know, winners discussion here. Ranked discussion is always fun.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Talking about some blue chip recruits there. But no, happy
- 0:59Speaker 3: to be here. Appreciate you having me.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Okay, let's start big picture.
- 1:03Speaker 1: When you look at Miami's 2028 recruiting board, which it's
- 1:07Speaker 1: crazy to think we are already turning our eyes that way.
- 1:10Speaker 1: But truly, these 2027 classes, for the most part, except
- 1:13Speaker 1: for some big game hunting, are pretty set up. How
- 1:16Speaker 1: much overlay on that 2028 recruiting board is there with Florida?
- 1:21Speaker 1: And are these two programs going head-to-head for more players
- 1:24Speaker 1: than people maybe realize?
- 1:26Speaker 3: Yeah, a bunch because Florida's up in its recruiting status. Obviously,
- 1:29Speaker 3: as Summerall gets his feet under him, gets out there,
- 1:31Speaker 3: it's not so much of a transition. He is now
- 1:34Speaker 3: going after the big fish. And we've talked about it
- 1:37Speaker 3: on State of the State and Off Air. You broke
- 1:39Speaker 3: in with recruiting, right? And recruiting has changed so much
- 1:41Speaker 3: since when you first started, when I first started following it,
- 1:44Speaker 3: just because of the calendars. We're 27, even though it
- 1:47Speaker 3: is October 21st, 2026. It used to be like February
- 1:53Speaker 3: of that year was when things hit the road. Now,
- 1:56Speaker 3: this is already done in October of the prior year.
- 1:59Speaker 3: You're looking for 2028. So it's just totally different. And
- 2:02Speaker 3: of course, the NIL, which we'll get to here in
- 2:04Speaker 3: a second with some of these prospects. But yeah, a
- 2:05Speaker 3: lot of crossover. When it comes to Miami and Florida,
- 2:08Speaker 3: I would circle Jacksonville as sort of the front, the
- 2:13Speaker 3: biggest front. When it came to this Miami-Florida recruiting war,
- 2:18Speaker 3: there are going to be a few. We saw this
- 2:19Speaker 3: with Napier and Cristobal when they're both new coaches. It
- 2:21Speaker 3: was like a lot of very, very contested battles. Obviously,
- 2:25Speaker 3: Cristobal got the better of a lot of those, which is,
- 2:27Speaker 3: I think, why Summerall's the coach now. Summerall, from his perspective,
- 2:30Speaker 3: you know he doesn't want to be losing those. He
- 2:32Speaker 3: wants to win those and change the tide here. So
- 2:36Speaker 3: it's going to be highly contested. I would say Jacksonville,
- 2:38Speaker 3: and we'll get into the specific players, is probably the
- 2:41Speaker 3: main front of that Florida-Miami war.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Which is so interesting because I think historically, at least
- 2:46Speaker 1: as long as I've covered recruiting, which is longer than
- 2:48Speaker 1: I would like to admit on this show, Gainesville kind
- 2:52Speaker 1: of had Jacksonville on lock. And the battles that we
- 2:56Speaker 1: had with Miami were generally more South Florida kids, which
- 2:59Speaker 1: is obviously an area that the Canes have done a
- 3:01Speaker 1: great job locking down historically. But you're right, Jacksonville, just
- 3:06Speaker 1: the epicenter right now. Let's start with Bryson Wright's. I
- 3:09Speaker 1: know you guys feel very good about him. He's been
- 3:12Speaker 1: crystal balled, five-star wide receiver at a Mandarin High School.
- 3:15Speaker 1: You guys have made him a major priority. How confident
- 3:19Speaker 1: is that staff in its position? And do you think
- 3:22Speaker 1: Florida can be a factor in this recruitment at all?
- 3:24Speaker 3: Yeah, so you mentioned 2028. He could potentially do what
- 3:29Speaker 3: Amir Sears did. Yeah, reclass. That is something that is
- 3:32Speaker 3: in the cards, absolutely. Although he's not an old player.
- 3:34Speaker 3: I think he actually reclassed So he's pretty young despite
- 3:38Speaker 3: the facial hair and the very mature game on the field.
- 3:41Speaker 3: So that's something to watch with his recruitment. But Florida
- 3:44Speaker 3: is certainly in the picture along with Texas and Miami.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Those are really the three. And Florida had a lot
- 3:49Speaker 3: of momentum coming out of the Ole Miss game. I
- 3:51Speaker 3: think Miami reclaimed some of that momentum. And then here
- 3:53Speaker 3: in the FSU game, he was there in person, saw
- 3:57Speaker 3: a very fun game to watch, packed house, all that.
- 4:00Speaker 3: So Miami's got a ton of momentum in his recruitment.
- 4:03Speaker 3: You mentioned that the crystal ball came in. For Bryson, right,
- 4:06Speaker 3: I don't think this thing is done. Now, Ash or Gito,
- 4:09Speaker 3: we're going to get to the same thing where this
- 4:12Speaker 3: is the modern era of football. There's NIL. It's almost
- 4:16Speaker 3: like professional in a lot of these situations. So until
- 4:21Speaker 3: that's done, it's not done. And I think that's something
- 4:25Speaker 3: that's still in the process. And I don't think Miami
- 4:28Speaker 3: is usually just waiting to announce. But Miami certainly has
- 4:32Speaker 3: the momentum. I would say Miami is certainly in the lead.
- 4:35Speaker 3: He's actually originally from St. Augustine, which is still Gator country,
- 4:39Speaker 3: but then played at Jacksonville Mandarin. He grew up with
- 4:42Speaker 3: Samorin Wingo, who Miami signed last year. It was another
- 4:45Speaker 3: Gator-Miami battle. Samorin Wingo out of St. Augustine, Florida, wide receiver,
- 4:49Speaker 3: four-star player. So that's a connection to Miami. We'll see
- 4:53Speaker 3: how it plays out, but I would say right now,
- 4:54Speaker 3: as we said, October 21st, Miami firmly in the lead
- 4:57Speaker 3: for Bryson Reif at the Gators, Texas. Those would be
- 4:59Speaker 3: the threats.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Let's talk about Asher Gito.
- 5:03Speaker 1: You mentioned him, five-star edge, Jacksonville Bulls, 2028 class. He
- 5:08Speaker 1: has spent time both at Florida and Miami. He's spoken
- 5:12Speaker 1: very positively about both programs when he's there. He was
- 5:16Speaker 1: at the Florida Atlantic game that Florida hosted in Gainesville
- 5:20Speaker 1: and then was in Miami last weekend, I believe, correct?
- 5:24Speaker 2: Yep.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Okay, so let's talk about your read on this recruitment
- 5:27Speaker 1: because I do think he's one of those kids that
- 5:29Speaker 1: it appears he leans wherever he's been last. Is this
- 5:34Speaker 1: one where you think Miami has maybe established itself as
- 5:37Speaker 1: the team to beat or is that maybe recency bias
- 5:41Speaker 1: and if he makes his way back to Gainesville or
- 5:43Speaker 1: back to Miami that this could be a back and
- 5:44Speaker 1: forth for.
- 5:45Speaker 2: A little bit?
- 5:46Speaker 3: Yeah, Jacksonville Bulls, which has not been a place Miami's
- 5:49Speaker 3: had a lot of success. Miami's gotten better in Jacksonville
- 5:52Speaker 3: over the years. I think really Mark Richt started the
- 5:57Speaker 3: trend of Miami going into Jacksonville, getting some players. Shaq Quarterman,
- 6:01Speaker 3: who ended up playing in the NFL, playing for the Jaguars, actually.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Mike Pickney, a few other guys. That kind of started
- 6:05Speaker 3: the trend. Most recently, you saw Carson Beck, who's originally
- 6:08Speaker 3: from Jacksonville, Mandarin, going to the national championship. So Miami's
- 6:12Speaker 3: done better in Jacksonville. They got a Jacksonville Bulls player
- 6:14Speaker 3: last year in J.J. Sparks, an offensive lineman. So again,
- 6:18Speaker 3: they're inching towards trying to compete for players like Asher,
- 6:22Speaker 3: who's a five-star player in Jacksonville. You see Georgia also
- 6:25Speaker 3: in the mix. Florida, of course. Jacksonville, we know what
- 6:28Speaker 3: that means to that particular rivalry in those two schools.
- 6:31Speaker 3: So from a geography standpoint, I think Miami's fighting an
- 6:34Speaker 3: uphill battle. But they've been on Asher for a long,
- 6:37Speaker 3: long time. Just put two defensive ends in the first round.
- 6:40Speaker 3: He paid attention to that. He was there multiple times
- 6:42Speaker 3: at Miami in spring and summer. Saw him at various camps.
- 6:45Speaker 3: He competed at a camp. Was coached by Jason Taylor directly.
- 6:48Speaker 3: So there's been a lot of contact between Miami and Asher.
- 6:51Speaker 3: He says that he feels like he's Miami's top priority, which...
- 6:54Speaker 3: Miami does that to recruits because they're so aggressive in
- 6:56Speaker 3: their approach. But when he went to Ole Miss, you
- 6:59Speaker 3: were there. You were sitting right next to his family.
- 7:01Speaker 3: He loved that visit. Florida started getting momentum as the leader.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Miami has kind of reclaimed that momentum a little bit.
- 7:08Speaker 3: But again, we're now in the business side of NIL.
- 7:10Speaker 3: These things change very fast. And he's somebody that I think,
- 7:13Speaker 3: like you said, Georgia was in there getting some momentum.
- 7:16Speaker 3: It's kind of up and down where in October of
- 7:20Speaker 3: the 2027 cycle, It's hard to say you're going to
- 7:24Speaker 3: get him to sign, which would ultimately be what, in
- 7:26Speaker 3: December of 2027? So we're talking about 13 months, right?
- 7:32Speaker 3: So we'll see on that one. But I do think
- 7:34Speaker 3: Miami is considered the leader nationally, and Miami feels very
- 7:36Speaker 3: good about their chances there.
- 7:38Speaker 1: We're both also recruiting his teammate, Xander Edwards, running back
- 7:42Speaker 1: also from Bowles High School.
- 7:44Speaker 2: How do you feel about his recruitment?
- 7:46Speaker 1: And do you think that there's any, I don't want
- 7:49Speaker 1: to say package deal, that feels wrong, but do you
- 7:51Speaker 1: think that they influence each.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Other at all?
- 7:54Speaker 3: There's some influence. I would definitely not say package deal.
- 7:57Speaker 3: His dad played for Notre Dame and Tampa as a pro.
- 8:00Speaker 3: So he was a Notre Dame alum, played for Tampa.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Mark Edwards was a fullback, very successful fullback for the
- 8:05Speaker 3: Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So Xander Edwards is a really interesting player,
- 8:09Speaker 3: four bowls, again, teammate of Asher. And he's someone who
- 8:12Speaker 3: broke one of Derrick Henry's single game rushing records. He
- 8:15Speaker 3: is extremely prolific, bigger back, 6'2, 220, can catch the
- 8:19Speaker 3: ball in the backfield, just a real physical back. and
- 8:22Speaker 3: Miami's been recruiting him for a long long time because
- 8:24Speaker 3: he's been putting up crazy numbers Florida's been recruiting him
- 8:26Speaker 3: as well Notre Dame was late on Edwards which is
- 8:28Speaker 3: why I think a lot of people assumed he'd go
- 8:30Speaker 3: to Notre Dame because of his dad but because you
- 8:33Speaker 3: know Miami which beat Notre Dame last year was calling
- 8:35Speaker 3: him every single day and Notre Dame was kind of
- 8:38Speaker 3: slow playing him I think that rubbed him the wrong
- 8:40Speaker 3: way so Notre Dame's kind of out of it at
- 8:42Speaker 3: the moment and Florida is looking like the biggest competition
- 8:45Speaker 3: for Miami Miami's been considered the leader but I would
- 8:48Speaker 3: say that's a slight lead it's not as strong as
- 8:51Speaker 3: the other two names we mentioned at this point Miami
- 8:54Speaker 3: wants him Miami sells him on being like the next
- 8:56Speaker 3: Mark Fletcher who's another bigger physical back from the state
- 8:59Speaker 3: of Florida but if you're the Florida Gators they got
- 9:02Speaker 3: a back right now that is projected to go first
- 9:03Speaker 3: round that's certainly going to be a selling point and
- 9:06Speaker 3: I'm sure it is a selling point with the Florida
- 9:08Speaker 3: Gators for Xander Edwards geography same issue as Asher where
- 9:12Speaker 3: Florida's had much more success historically at bowls than Miami
- 9:16Speaker 3: has so Something to watch there with him. But I
- 9:19Speaker 3: would say, and again, this is the national perspective that
- 9:22Speaker 3: Miami has a lead there. Miami thinks they have a
- 9:24Speaker 3: lead there, but I don't think that's a commanding lead.
- 9:25Speaker 3: And I think the Gators definitely have a chance to
- 9:28Speaker 3: take some, take a momentum in that recruitment.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Guys, do not forget to take advantage of our code.
- 9:33Speaker 2: It's PEAK15. That's P-E-E-K-1-5.
- 9:36Speaker 1: You can use it online at alumnihall.com or in stores.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Alumni Hall is located in Gainesville on Archer Road. But
- 9:44Speaker 1: if you live in another city in this country, there
- 9:46Speaker 1: are alumni halls all over the place. This code will
- 9:49Speaker 1: work in every single one of them. Alumni Hall has
- 9:52Speaker 1: all the top brands you're looking for. They've got all
- 9:54Speaker 1: the Nike stuff. They've got Jordan. They've got Peter Millar.
- 9:57Speaker 1: They've got Cutter and Buck. They've got all the best
- 9:59Speaker 1: kid's They have a huge selection of graphic tees. Every
- 10:03Speaker 1: sport that Florida offers, they've got merchandise in this store.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Make sure you go and check it out.

- 10:11Speaker 1: a 15% off discount on everything you are going to
- 10:14Speaker 1: buy anyway. We appreciate Alumni Hall for all their support.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Don't forget to go check them out. Make sure you
- 10:20Speaker 1: tell them Allie sent you. Okay, let's look at the
- 10:24Speaker 1: 2027 class. And, you know, again, except for big game hunting,
- 10:28Speaker 1: these classes are pretty much shored up. Miami and Florida
- 10:31Speaker 1: both put together impressive recruiting groups. When you compare the
- 10:35Speaker 1: two classes, where do you think Miami has done a
- 10:39Speaker 1: better job?
- 10:40Speaker 2: And is there an area that you would maybe give
- 10:42Speaker 2: Florida the edge?
- 10:43Speaker 3: Florida is doing a good job. I like about Florida's
- 10:46Speaker 3: class as I look from the outside. I think back
- 10:49Speaker 3: to Miami, Florida in 2023's class because that was the
- 10:53Speaker 3: first Napier full class, right? It was 2023. That was
- 10:55Speaker 3: his first because 22 is a transition and 23 is
- 10:58Speaker 3: a full class. Mario was the same thing, right? So
- 11:02Speaker 3: what Mario did first was solidify the offensive line. He
- 11:05Speaker 3: actually started in that transition class in 22. He signed
- 11:08Speaker 3: Matt McCoy out of St. Augustine who actually they beat
- 11:12Speaker 3: out the Gators for. Again, that was a transition. So
- 11:15Speaker 3: that was like the first Napier transition. Chris ball battle,
- 11:17Speaker 3: but it was a short, short one, right? Cause they
- 11:19Speaker 3: both came in late. And then he also got an
- 11:21Speaker 3: S Cooper, uh, which ended up being an NFL player
- 11:23Speaker 3: for him. So he started there. Then in 2023, Miami
- 11:27Speaker 3: and Florida battle for both Francis Malinoa and Samson Okunlola.
- 11:31Speaker 3: Samson Okunlola is now Miami starting left tackle. Francis Malinoa,
- 11:34Speaker 3: top 10 pick Miami won those battles. So I think
- 11:36Speaker 3: that was Miami setting the tone for what ultimately was
- 11:39Speaker 3: a major advantage for the Canes when those two teams played.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Now look at what Florida's doing with, with, their new
- 11:45Speaker 3: offensive line coach with Coach Summerall. If you look at
- 11:47Speaker 3: their commitment list starting at the top, it's pretty much
- 11:52Speaker 3: offensive linemen at the top of the class, including the
- 11:55Speaker 3: very top with a five-star out of Pennsylvania. So I
- 11:58Speaker 3: think that's a very promising sign for the Gators. Those
- 12:00Speaker 3: guys are hard to get in the portal. They cost
- 12:02Speaker 3: a lot of money. So you want to recruit high-level
- 12:04Speaker 3: guys from high school, the rare body types, and I
- 12:07Speaker 3: think they're doing a good job of that. Look at
- 12:09Speaker 3: the quarterback position. Miami recruited Davidson, who– for the Sarasota
- 12:13Speaker 3: quarterback who went to Florida. They got Izzy Abrams, five-star
- 12:16Speaker 3: player out of Chicago. I think they're very happy with
- 12:18Speaker 3: him and how he's played. But Davidson's got tremendous upside.
- 12:21Speaker 3: He's got the size, a baseball player, just a really,
- 12:24Speaker 3: really talented guy. So that one, I don't think we're
- 12:26Speaker 3: going to know how that one turns out until down
- 12:27Speaker 3: the road. Obviously got to keep those guys.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Is Miami going to play their five-star high school quarterback
- 12:32Speaker 1: or are they going to replace him with somebody in
- 12:34Speaker 1: the portal down the road?
- 12:35Speaker 3: That's the question, right? And Miami hasn't gotten a lot
- 12:38Speaker 3: of five-star quarterback. So this is a different, a change
- 12:40Speaker 3: for Miami because these guys, you know, this is a
- 12:42Speaker 3: number two quarterback, I believe last year.
- 12:44Speaker 1: He listens to state of the state and he knows
- 12:46Speaker 1: that I gave him grief for not developing quarterbacks.
- 12:49Speaker 2: So he's going to go prove me wrong.
- 12:52Speaker 3: From your lips to God's ears. But, but he's, He's
- 12:54Speaker 3: a very talented guy. But I like Davidson. I really
- 12:56Speaker 3: do like Davidson. And I think if you look at
- 12:58Speaker 3: guys that end up making it in the pros, they
- 13:00Speaker 3: fit the profile of a Davidson as a multi-sport guy.
- 13:03Speaker 3: I know people were freaking out because he had a
- 13:04Speaker 3: couple bad games against good teams. I was there when
- 13:07Speaker 3: Lamar Jackson played central for his Boynton Beach team in
- 13:10Speaker 3: the playoffs. He might have had like 50 yards passing
- 13:13Speaker 3: and he didn't run because the team was overmatched. With
- 13:16Speaker 3: these talented guys, that happens sometimes. Josh Allen, like all
- 13:19Speaker 3: those guys have those kind of games. You're betting on
- 13:21Speaker 3: the talent with Davidson. I like that pickup from the Gators.
- 13:23Speaker 3: But really, when I look at the Gators class, I
- 13:25Speaker 3: think the offensive line is a strength. Where Miami's strong
- 13:27Speaker 3: is Nick Lanier, five-star from Miami-Dade County, committed. Amir Sears,
- 13:31Speaker 3: five-star from Miami-Dade County, committed. Dante Wright from Los Angeles, five-star,
- 13:36Speaker 3: number one cornerback in the country, committed. Jaden Bryant from
- 13:39Speaker 3: South Carolina, five-star defensive end. You're in the mix for
- 13:42Speaker 3: Mark Matthews and DJ Jacobs, two more five-stars. So that
- 13:46Speaker 3: big game hunting, I think Miami's doing a very good job.
- 13:49Speaker 3: And then protecting South Florida. I'll use the example of
- 13:52Speaker 3: an Andre Hippolite. Andre Hippolite was another guy that the
- 13:54Speaker 3: Gators were after pretty hard for North Miami Beach. Miami
- 13:57Speaker 3: was able to get him to stay home. Think about
- 13:59Speaker 3: the Gators with Major Wright on that championship team. Some
- 14:02Speaker 3: of those guys, when the Gators are really rolling, they're
- 14:06Speaker 3: getting those kind of guys. I think because Miami's playing well,
- 14:10Speaker 3: it's a little different than maybe what Zook and Urban
- 14:13Speaker 3: were dealing with where Miami was declining and it was
- 14:15Speaker 3: easier to recruit against them. So for the Gators to
- 14:18Speaker 3: really go down to Miami and South Florida the way
- 14:21Speaker 3: Miami's going up to Jacksonville, I think that will follow
- 14:24Speaker 3: some success. So Summerall gets, you know, the Gators still
- 14:27Speaker 3: have a chance to make the playoffs this year. Or
- 14:29Speaker 3: did they just finish strong and have a positive upward momentum?
- 14:32Speaker 3: And then next year, maybe their preseason top 10, whatever
- 14:34Speaker 3: it is, that will give them a better chance, I think,
- 14:36Speaker 3: to come down to South Florida and grab some of
- 14:39Speaker 3: these guys. Because Miami is a little stronger now than
- 14:42Speaker 3: they were when Florida and Florida State were really stacking
- 14:46Speaker 3: their championship teams with a lot of South Florida guys.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Well, and what you just brought up is kind of
- 14:51Speaker 1: where I want to go next with this. You know,
- 14:53Speaker 1: Summerall is at Florida now. Mario Cristobal obviously established himself
- 14:56Speaker 1: at Miami. How are the two staffs different on the
- 15:00Speaker 1: recruiting trail? Like when both programs are recruiting the same guy,
- 15:05Speaker 1: what is each school selling that the other can't?
- 15:09Speaker 3: I think they're pretty similar. You know, Summerall is known
- 15:11Speaker 3: for being a real personable guy. I remember I read
- 15:14Speaker 3: a story on him. I think it was in the
- 15:16Speaker 3: athletic and like, that's what everybody that knew him. That
- 15:18Speaker 3: was like the first thing they said, which is not
- 15:20Speaker 3: always what you hear from a head coach. Right. But
- 15:22Speaker 3: everybody said that, uh, Mario, although, you know, he's tough guy, um,
- 15:27Speaker 3: obviously a disciplinarian, but he's also personable, particularly with recruits. Um,
- 15:31Speaker 3: and they're, they're both, and we've talked about this on
- 15:33Speaker 3: state and state. They're both very personally involved, which I think, yeah,
- 15:37Speaker 3: that's a, that's been a differentiator for Mario at Miami
- 15:40Speaker 3: since he's been there. And now Summerall has a chance
- 15:42Speaker 3: to to do that himself, where if your head coach
- 15:45Speaker 3: is the one calling you, it's a different level of
- 15:48Speaker 3: love that you're feeling from the staff. So I think
- 15:51Speaker 3: that's certainly a selling point. The swamp, the environment, that's
- 15:54Speaker 3: always going to be a big selling point in the SEC.
- 15:56Speaker 3: You know, a lot of these kids grew up in
- 15:58Speaker 3: eras of SEC dominance. Being able to sell the SEC
- 16:01Speaker 3: is big. But I think really a lot of it's
- 16:03Speaker 3: going to come down to getting prominent players. Like, so
- 16:06Speaker 3: for example, Vernal Brown, who's on campus right now and
- 16:09Speaker 3: playing well, obviously been injured. But like, if he becomes...
- 16:12Speaker 3: Kind of like how Malachi is for Miami. Malachi helped
- 16:16Speaker 3: recruit Amir Sears, helped recruit Nick Lanier. Not just Bryson Wright,
- 16:23Speaker 3: not just personally calling him, but also just like, hey,
- 16:25Speaker 3: I want to be that. I want what he has.
- 16:27Speaker 3: A guy like Vernal Brown or Dallas Wilson, Miami recruited
- 16:31Speaker 3: both of those guys extremely hard. Talk about recruiting battles.
- 16:34Speaker 3: Those were two that took place under Napier that were
- 16:37Speaker 3: big losses for Miami, big wins for Florida. So those
- 16:40Speaker 3: guys have success, go first round, whatever. I think that's
- 16:43Speaker 3: going to help someone like Summerall really, really crank it up.
- 16:48Speaker 3: He can't do it as much now because he just
- 16:50Speaker 3: got there. But would you worry if Morrow's selling more
- 16:54Speaker 3: proof of concept? But guys like Baugh with the continued
- 16:59Speaker 3: success of the two I mentioned, that'll make it a
- 17:01Speaker 3: lot easier going forward.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Well, and I do think, you know, we do talk
- 17:05Speaker 1: a lot about proof of concept. And I think Florida
- 17:07Speaker 1: fans thought It was going to take a little bit more.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Florida's sitting at 5-2, though, with two top-10 wins. And
- 17:13Speaker 1: so I do think that there's– it's not the same
- 17:15Speaker 1: level of proof of concept because Miami has made it
- 17:17Speaker 1: to the playoffs under Cristobal, and that is the ultimate
- 17:21Speaker 1: proof of concept, I think. But I do think that
- 17:23Speaker 1: some of the early winning that has taken place is showing, like, okay,
- 17:27Speaker 1: this is headed.
- 17:27Speaker 2: In the right direction.
- 17:29Speaker 1: If we're sitting here a year from now looking back, though,
- 17:32Speaker 1: at this 2028 recruiting cycle– Which Florida-Miami head-to-head battle do
- 17:37Speaker 1: you think will have been the biggest and.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Who wins it?
- 17:41Speaker 3: So 27, I think the quarterback's going to be a
- 17:43Speaker 3: big thing, right? You know, the quarterback, how does Davidson
- 17:47Speaker 3: develop if he ends up being like a first round
- 17:48Speaker 3: stud that really helps elevate Florida's program? That's going to
- 17:52Speaker 3: be something you go back and look at because Miami
- 17:54Speaker 3: was involved there. The offensive line, if Florida has a
- 17:58Speaker 3: better offensive line than Miami in three years, certainly Mario
- 18:01Speaker 3: Cristobal is not going to be a happy camper because
- 18:02Speaker 3: that's something he prides himself on. But That would be
- 18:05Speaker 3: a major statement from the Florida Gators. We know that
- 18:07Speaker 3: Florida is prioritizing the offensive line in everything they do,
- 18:10Speaker 3: whether it's the hiring of assistant coaches. I don't know
- 18:13Speaker 3: the assistant coach salaries. I guess they're public, right?
- 18:15Speaker 2: They are. Because we're a public school, they're public.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Right. Imagine offensive line coach is being paid pretty well.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Yeah. Phil Trotwine is making a pretty penny for sure.
- 18:25Speaker 3: So that and then, of course, the investment in the recruits,
- 18:28Speaker 3: both defensively. You have a junior college elite recruit as
- 18:33Speaker 3: well on top of the high school guys. So if
- 18:34Speaker 3: those guys end up really turning this Gator offensive line
- 18:37Speaker 3: into the best in the state, I think that's going
- 18:38Speaker 3: to be something you go back and look at. 2028
- 18:42Speaker 3: is going to come down to, we'll call it the
- 18:43Speaker 3: Battle of Jacksonville. Who's going to win the Battle of
- 18:45Speaker 3: Jacksonville with those three kids? There's a couple other guys
- 18:48Speaker 3: that are good too. That will be defining for the
- 18:50Speaker 3: 28 class. I think 27 is going to come down
- 18:52Speaker 3: to who's the best quarterback in the state and who
- 18:55Speaker 3: has the best offensive line in the state. And we
- 18:56Speaker 3: won't know until a few years down the road.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Well, Danny, I appreciate it.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Tell all of the Gator listeners here where they can
- 19:03Speaker 1: check out your work. Danny covers recruiting for the University
- 19:06Speaker 1: of Miami, which tons and tons of crossover, better than
- 19:08Speaker 1: anybody else that does it down there.
- 19:10Speaker 2: So tell everybody where to check you out.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Sure. Canes Insight, we're a daily show on YouTube. So
- 19:14Speaker 3: just write Canes Insight on YouTube or the app, the

- 19:30Speaker 3: be good for the bottom line. But we'll see.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I think there's a lot of hate watching that takes
- 19:35Speaker 1: place too, not just love.
- 19:36Speaker 2: But the good news is YouTube tracks it the same.
- 19:39Speaker 2: So I appreciate it. We'll have to do this again
- 19:41Speaker 2: real soon.
