- 0:00Speaker 1: Alma Chapter four through seven. Now it came to pass
- 0:04Speaker 1: in the sixth year of the reign of the Judges
- 0:06Speaker 1: over the people of Nephi. There were no contentions nor
- 0:09Speaker 1: wars in the lands of Zarahemla. But the people were afflicted, Yea,
- 0:14Speaker 1: greatly afflicted for the loss of their brethren, and also
- 0:17Speaker 1: for the loss of their flocks and herds, and also
- 0:20Speaker 1: for the loss of their fields of grain, which were
- 0:23Speaker 1: trodden under foot and destroyed.
- 0:24Speaker 2: By the Lamanites. And so great were their.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Afflictions that every soul had caused to mourn. And they
- 0:30Speaker 1: believed that it was the judgments of God sent upon
- 0:33Speaker 1: them because of their wickedness and their abominations. Therefore they
- 0:38Speaker 1: were awakened to a remembrance of their duty, and they
- 0:41Speaker 1: began to establish the church more fully Yea, and many
- 0:45Speaker 1: were baptized in the waters of Sidon and were joined
- 0:48Speaker 1: to the Church.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Of God Yea.
- 0:49Speaker 1: They were baptized by the hands of Alma, who had
- 0:52Speaker 1: been consecrated the high priest over the people of the
- 0:55Speaker 1: Church by the hands of his father Alma. And it
- 0:58Speaker 1: came to pass in the seventh year of the reign
- 1:00Speaker 1: of the Judges that they were about three thousand, five
- 1:03Speaker 1: hundred souls that united themselves to the Church of God
- 1:06Speaker 1: and were baptized. And thus endeth the seventh year of
- 1:09Speaker 1: the reign of the Judges over the people of Nephi.
- 1:12Speaker 1: And there was continual peace in all that time. And
- 1:16Speaker 1: it came to pass and the eighth year of the
- 1:18Speaker 1: reign of the Judges, that the people of the Church
- 1:21Speaker 1: began to wax proud because of their exceeding riches, and
- 1:24Speaker 1: their fine silks and their fine twined linen, and because
- 1:28Speaker 1: of their many flocks and herds, and their gold and
- 1:31Speaker 1: their silver, and all manner of precious things which they
- 1:34Speaker 1: had obtained by their industry. And in all these things
- 1:37Speaker 1: were they lifted up in the prod of their eyes,
- 1:39Speaker 1: for they began to wear very costly apparel. Now this
- 1:43Speaker 1: was the cause of much affliction to Alma Yea and
- 1:45Speaker 1: to many of the people whom Alma had consecrated to
- 1:47Speaker 1: be teachers and priests and elders over the Church.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Yea.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Many of them were sorely grieved for the wickedness which
- 1:53Speaker 1: they saw had begun to be among their people. For
- 1:56Speaker 1: they saw and beheld with great sorrow that the people
- 2:00Speaker 1: the Church began to be lifted up in the pride
- 2:02Speaker 1: of their eyes, and to set their hearts upon riches
- 2:05Speaker 1: and upon the vain things of the world. And they
- 2:08Speaker 1: began to be scornful one towards another, and they began
- 2:11Speaker 1: to persecute those that did not believe according to their
- 2:14Speaker 1: own will and pleasure.
- 2:16Speaker 2: And thus in this.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Eighth year of the reign of the Judges, there began
- 2:20Speaker 1: to be great contentions among the people of the Church. Yea,
- 2:23Speaker 1: there were envyings, and strife, and malice, and persecutions, and
- 2:27Speaker 1: pride even to exceed the pride of those who did
- 2:30Speaker 1: not belong to the Church of God. And thus ended
- 2:34Speaker 1: the eighth year of the reign of the Judges. And
- 2:36Speaker 1: the wickedness of the church was a great stumbling block
- 2:39Speaker 1: to those who did not belong to the church. And
- 2:41Speaker 1: thus the church began to fail in its progress, and
- 2:45Speaker 1: it came to pass in the commencement of the ninth year.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Alma saw the wickedness of the church, and he saw
- 2:50Speaker 1: also that the example of the church had begun to
- 2:53Speaker 1: lead those who were unbelievers on from one piece of
- 2:56Speaker 1: iniquity to another, thus bringing on the destruction of the people. Yea,
- 3:01Speaker 1: he saw great inequality among the people, some lifting themselves
- 3:05Speaker 1: up with their pride, despising others turning their backs upon
- 3:10Speaker 1: the needy and the naked, and those who were hungry,
- 3:13Speaker 1: and those who were athirst, and those who were sick
- 3:15Speaker 1: and afflicted. Now this was a great cause for lamentations
- 3:19Speaker 1: among the people, while others were abasing themselves, succoring those
- 3:23Speaker 1: who stood in need of their succor, such as imparting
- 3:26Speaker 1: their substance to the poor and the needy, feeding the hungry,
- 3:29Speaker 1: and suffering all manner of afflictions for Christ's sake. Who
- 3:33Speaker 1: should come, according to the spirit of prophecy, looking forward
- 3:37Speaker 1: to that day, thus retaining a remission of their sins,
- 3:40Speaker 1: being filled with great joy because of the rursurrection of
- 3:43Speaker 1: the dead according to the will and power and deliverance
- 3:46Speaker 1: of Jesus Christ from the bands of death. Now it
- 3:49Speaker 1: came to pass at Alma, having seen the afflictions of
- 3:52Speaker 1: the humble followers of God and the persecutions which were
- 3:56Speaker 1: heaped upon them by the remainder of His people, and
- 3:59Speaker 1: seeing all their inequality, began to be very sorrowful. Nevertheless,
- 4:04Speaker 1: the spirit of the Lord did not fail him, and
- 4:07Speaker 1: he selected a wise man who was among the elders
- 4:09Speaker 1: of the church, and gave him power according to the
- 4:12Speaker 1: voice of the people, that he might have power to
- 4:15Speaker 1: enact laws according to the laws which had been given,
- 4:18Speaker 1: and to put them in force according to the wickedness
- 4:20Speaker 1: in the crimes of the people. Now this man's name
- 4:23Speaker 1: was Nefhaija, and he was appointed chief Judge, and he
- 4:26Speaker 1: sat in the judgment seat to judge and to govern
- 4:29Speaker 1: the people. Now, Amah did not grant unto him the
- 4:33Speaker 1: office of being high priest over the church, but he
- 4:36Speaker 1: retained the office of high priest unto himself. But he
- 4:39Speaker 1: delivered the judgment seat unto Nephaih. And this he did
- 4:43Speaker 1: that he himself might go forth among his people, or
- 4:46Speaker 1: among the people of Nephi, that he might preach the
- 4:49Speaker 1: word of God unto them, to stir them up in
- 4:51Speaker 1: remembrance of their duty, that he might pull down, by
- 4:55Speaker 1: the word of God, all the pride and craftiness, and
- 4:58Speaker 1: all the contentions which were among his people, seeing no
- 5:02Speaker 1: way that he might reclaim them, save it were in
- 5:04Speaker 1: bearing down in pure testimony against them. And thus, in
- 5:08Speaker 1: the commencement of the ninth year of the reign of
- 5:10Speaker 1: the judges over the people of Nephi. Alma delivered up
- 5:13Speaker 1: the judgment seat unto Nefaiha and confined himself wholly to
- 5:17Speaker 1: the high priesthood of the Holy Order of God, to
- 5:20Speaker 1: the testimony of the Word according to the spirit of
- 5:23Speaker 1: revelation and prophecy. End of Chapter four, Chapter five. Now
- 5:31Speaker 1: it came to pass that Almah began to deliver the
- 5:34Speaker 1: word of God unto the people, first in the land
- 5:37Speaker 1: of Zarahemla, and from thence throughout all the land. And
- 5:41Speaker 1: these are the words which he spake to the people
- 5:43Speaker 1: in the church which was established in the city of Zarahemla,
- 5:46Speaker 1: according to his own record, saying, I, Alma, have been
- 5:51Speaker 1: consecrated by my father Alma to be a high priest
- 5:54Speaker 1: over the Church of God, he having power and authority
- 5:58Speaker 1: from God to do these things. Behold, I say unto
- 6:02Speaker 1: you that he began to establish a church in the
- 6:05Speaker 1: land which was in the borders of Nephi Yea, the
- 6:07Speaker 1: land which was called the land of Mormon Yay. And
- 6:11Speaker 1: he did baptize his brethren into the waters of Mormon.
- 6:14Speaker 1: And behold, I say unto you, they were delivered out
- 6:18Speaker 1: of the hands of the people of King Noah by the.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Mercy and power of God.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And behold, after that, they were brought into bondage by
- 6:25Speaker 1: the hands of the Lamanites in the wilderness. Yea, I
- 6:28Speaker 1: say unto you, they were in captivity. And again the
- 6:31Speaker 1: Lord to deliver them out of bondage by the power
- 6:34Speaker 1: of his word. And we were brought into this land.
- 6:37Speaker 1: And here we began to establish the Church of God
- 6:40Speaker 1: throughout this land also. And now behold, I say unto you,
- 6:44Speaker 1: my brethren, you that belonged to this church, have you
- 6:48Speaker 1: sufficiently retained in remembrance the captivity.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Of your fathers? Yeay?
- 6:52Speaker 1: And have you sufficiently retained in remembrance his mercy and
- 6:55Speaker 1: long suffering towards them? And moreover, have you sufficiently retained
- 6:59Speaker 1: in remembrance that He has delivered their souls from hell? Behold,
- 7:03Speaker 1: he changed their hearts.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Yea.
- 7:06Speaker 1: He awakened them out of a deep sleep, and they
- 7:09Speaker 1: awoke unto God. Behold, they were in the midst of darkness. Nevertheless,
- 7:15Speaker 1: their souls were illuminated by the light of the everlasting Word.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Yea. They were encircled about by.
- 7:22Speaker 1: The bands of death and the chains of hell, and
- 7:25Speaker 1: an everlasting destruction did await them. Now I ask of you,
- 7:29Speaker 1: my brethren, were they destroyed? Behold, I say unto you, nay,
- 7:35Speaker 1: they were not. And again I ask, were the bands
- 7:38Speaker 1: of death broken? And the chains of hell which encircled
- 7:42Speaker 1: them about?
- 7:43Speaker 2: Were they loosed?
- 7:44Speaker 1: I say unto you, yea, they were loosed, and their
- 7:48Speaker 1: souls did expand, and they did sing redeeming love. And
- 7:52Speaker 1: I say unto you that they are saved. And now
- 7:56Speaker 1: I ask of you on what conditions are they saved?
- 8:00Speaker 2: Yea?
- 8:00Speaker 1: On What grounds had they to hope for salvation? What
- 8:04Speaker 1: is the cause of their being loosed from the bands
- 8:06Speaker 1: of death?
- 8:07Speaker 2: Yea?
- 8:08Speaker 1: And also the chains of hell? Behold, I can tell you.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Did not my father Almah believe in the words which
- 8:14Speaker 1: were delivered by the mouth of a Benedi. And was
- 8:16Speaker 1: he not a holy prophet? Did he not speak the
- 8:19Speaker 1: words of God? And my father Almah believe them? And
- 8:22Speaker 1: according to his faith, there was a mighty change wrought
- 8:25Speaker 1: in his heart. Behold, I say unto you that this
- 8:29Speaker 1: is all true. And behold he preached the word unto
- 8:34Speaker 1: your father's. And a mighty change was also wrought in
- 8:37Speaker 1: their hearts, and they humbled themselves and put their trust
- 8:41Speaker 1: in the True and Living God. And behold they were
- 8:44Speaker 1: faithful until the end. Therefore they were saved. And now
- 8:48Speaker 1: behold I ask of you, my brethren of the Church,
- 8:52Speaker 1: have ye spiritually been born of God? Have ye received
- 8:56Speaker 1: His image in your countenances? Have ye experienced this mighty
- 9:00Speaker 1: change in your hearts? Do ye exercise faith in the
- 9:03Speaker 1: redemption of Him who created you? Do you look forward
- 9:07Speaker 1: with an eye of faith and view this mortal body,
- 9:10Speaker 1: raised in immortality, and this corruption, raised in incorruption, to
- 9:14Speaker 1: stand before God, to be judged according to the deeds
- 9:17Speaker 1: which have been done in the mortal body. I say
- 9:21Speaker 1: unto you. Can you imagine to your selves that ye
- 9:24Speaker 1: hear the voice of the Lord saying unto you in
- 9:27Speaker 1: that day, come unto me, ye blessed, for behold your
- 9:31Speaker 1: works have been the works of righteousness upon the face
- 9:34Speaker 1: of the earth. Or do ye imagine to yourselves that
- 9:37Speaker 1: ye can lie unto the Lord in that day and say, Lord,
- 9:41Speaker 1: our works have been righteous works upon the face of
- 9:44Speaker 1: the earth, and that He will save you. Or otherwise,
- 9:48Speaker 1: can ye imagine yourselves brought before the tribunal of God,
- 9:51Speaker 1: with your souls filled with guilt? And remorse, having a
- 9:55Speaker 1: remembrance of all your guilt, yea, a perfect remembrance of
- 9:59Speaker 1: all your wickedness. Yea, a remembrance that ye have set
- 10:02Speaker 1: at defiance the commandments of God. I say unto you,
- 10:07Speaker 1: Can ye look up to God at that day with
- 10:09Speaker 1: a pure heart and clean hands? I say, unto you,
- 10:14Speaker 1: Can you look up having the image of God engraven
- 10:17Speaker 1: upon your countenances? I say unto you, Can ye think
- 10:22Speaker 1: of being saved when you have yielded yourselves to become
- 10:25Speaker 1: subjects to the devil? I say unto you, Ye will
- 10:30Speaker 1: know at that day that ye cannot be saved. For
- 10:33Speaker 1: there can no man be saved except his garments are
- 10:36Speaker 1: washed white. Yea, His garments must be purified until they
- 10:41Speaker 1: are cleansed from all stain through the blood of Him
- 10:44Speaker 1: of whom it has been spoken by our fathers, who
- 10:47Speaker 1: should come to redeem his people from their sins. And
- 10:51Speaker 1: now I ask of you, my brethren, how will any
- 10:54Speaker 1: of you feel if ye shall stand before the bar
- 10:57Speaker 1: of God, having your garments stand aimed with blood in
- 11:01Speaker 1: all manner of filtiness. Behold, what will these things testify
- 11:06Speaker 1: against you?
- 11:07Speaker 2: Behold?
- 11:08Speaker 1: Will they not testify that ye are murderers, yea, and
- 11:12Speaker 1: also that ye are guilty of all manner of wickedness. Behold,
- 11:16Speaker 1: my brethren, do ye suppose that such an one can
- 11:19Speaker 1: have a place to sit down in the Kingdom of
- 11:22Speaker 1: God with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob, and also
- 11:27Speaker 1: all the holy prophets, whose garments are cleansed and are spotless,
- 11:32Speaker 1: pure and white. I say unto you, nay, except ye
- 11:36Speaker 1: make our Creator a liar from the beginning, or suppose
- 11:40Speaker 1: that he is a liar from the beginning. Ye cannot
- 11:43Speaker 1: suppose that such can have place in the Kingdom of Heaven.
- 11:47Speaker 1: But they shall be cast out, for they are children
- 11:49Speaker 1: of the kingdom of the devil. And now behold, I
- 11:53Speaker 1: say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a
- 11:56Speaker 1: change of heart, and if ye have felt to sing
- 12:00Speaker 1: the song of redeeming Love, I would ask, can ye
- 12:03Speaker 1: feel so?
- 12:04Speaker 2: Now?
- 12:05Speaker 1: Have ye walked keeping yourselves blameless before God? Could ye say,
- 12:11Speaker 1: if ye were called to die at this time within yourselves,
- 12:15Speaker 1: that ye have been sufficiently humble, that your garments have
- 12:18Speaker 1: been cleansed and made white through the blood of Christ,
- 12:21Speaker 1: who will come to redeem his people from their sins. Behold,
- 12:26Speaker 1: are ye stripped of pride? I say unto you. If
- 12:30Speaker 1: ye are not, ye are not prepared to meet God. Behold,
- 12:34Speaker 1: ye must prepare quickly, for the Kingdom of Heaven is
- 12:38Speaker 1: soon at hand, and such an one hath not eternal life. Behold,
- 12:43Speaker 1: I say, is there one among you who is not
- 12:47Speaker 1: stripped of envy? I say unto you that such an
- 12:50Speaker 1: one is not prepared? And I would that he should
- 12:54Speaker 1: prepare quickly, for the hour is close at hand, and
- 12:58Speaker 1: he knoweth not when the time shall come. For such
- 13:01Speaker 1: an one is not found guiltless. And I say unto you,
- 13:05Speaker 1: is there one among you that doth make a mock
- 13:08Speaker 1: of his brother, or that heapeth upon him persecutions. Woe
- 13:12Speaker 1: unto such an one, for he is not prepared, and
- 13:16Speaker 1: the time is at hand that he must repent, or
- 13:18Speaker 1: he cannot be saved. Yea, even woe unto all ye
- 13:23Speaker 1: workers of iniquity. Repent, repent, For the Lord God hath
- 13:29Speaker 1: spoken it. Behold, he send it to an invitation to
- 13:33Speaker 1: all men, for the arms of mercy are extended towards them.
- 13:38Speaker 2: And he saith repent, and I will receive you.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Yea, he saith come unto me, and ye shall partake
- 13:47Speaker 1: of the fruit of the tree of life. Yea, ye
- 13:49Speaker 1: shall eat and drink of the bread and the waters
- 13:52Speaker 1: of life freely. YEA, come unto me and bring forth
- 13:56Speaker 1: works of righteousness, and ye shall not be hewn down.
- 14:00Speaker 2: And cast into the fire.
- 14:01Speaker 1: For behold, the time is at hand that whosoever bringeth
- 14:05Speaker 1: forth not good fruit, or whosoever doeth not the works
- 14:09Speaker 1: of righteousness, the same have cause to wail and mourn. O,
- 14:14Speaker 1: ye workers of iniquity, Ye that are puffed up in
- 14:18Speaker 1: the vain things of the world. Ye that have professed
- 14:21Speaker 1: to have known the ways of righteousness, nevertheless have gone
- 14:25Speaker 1: astray as sheep having no shepherd. Notwithstanding a shepherd hath
- 14:30Speaker 1: called after you, and is still calling after you, but
- 14:33Speaker 1: ye will not hearken unto his voice. Behold, I say
- 14:38Speaker 1: unto you that the Good Shepherd doth call you, yea,
- 14:42Speaker 1: and in his own name he doth call you, which
- 14:44Speaker 1: is the name of Christ. And if ye will not
- 14:46Speaker 1: hearken unto the voice of the Good Shepherd, to the
- 14:49Speaker 1: name by which ye are called, behold, ye are not
- 14:53Speaker 1: the sheep of the good Shepherd. And now if ye
- 14:56Speaker 1: are not the sheep of the Good Shepherd. Of what
- 14:59Speaker 1: fold are ye? Behold, I say unto you that the
- 15:03Speaker 1: Devil is your shepherd, and ye are of his fold.
- 15:07Speaker 2: And now who can deny this?
- 15:09Speaker 1: Behold, I say unto you, whosoever denieth this is a
- 15:13Speaker 1: liar and a child of the devil. For I say
- 15:17Speaker 1: unto you that whatsoever is good cometh from God, and
- 15:20Speaker 1: whatsoever is evil cometh from the Devil. Therefore, if a
- 15:25Speaker 1: man bringeth forth good works, he hearkeneth unto the voice
- 15:29Speaker 1: of the Good Shepherd, and he doth follow him. But
- 15:32Speaker 1: whosoever bringeth forth evil works, the same becometh the child
- 15:37Speaker 1: of the devil. For he hearkeneth unto his voice and
- 15:40Speaker 1: doth follow him. And whosoever doeth this must receive his
- 15:45Speaker 1: wages of him. Therefore, for his wages he receiveth death
- 15:50Speaker 1: as to things pertaining unto righteousness, being dead unto all
- 15:54Speaker 1: good works. And now, my brethren, I would that ye
- 15:58Speaker 1: should hear me, for I speak in the energy of
- 16:01Speaker 1: my soul. For behold, I have spoken unto you plainly
- 16:05Speaker 1: that ye cannot err or have spoken according to the
- 16:09Speaker 1: commandments of God. For I am called to speak after
- 16:12Speaker 1: this manner according to the Holy Order of God which
- 16:16Speaker 1: is in Christ Jesus. Yea, I am commanded to stand
- 16:20Speaker 1: and testify unto this people the things which have been
- 16:24Speaker 1: spoken by our fathers concerning the things which are to come.
- 16:28Speaker 1: And this is not all. Do ye not suppose that
- 16:32Speaker 1: I know of these things myself? Behold, I testify unto
- 16:36Speaker 1: you that I do know these things whereof I have
- 16:39Speaker 1: spoken of are true. And how do you suppose that
- 16:42Speaker 1: I know of their surety? Behold, I say unto you
- 16:46Speaker 1: that they are made known unto me by the Holy
- 16:48Speaker 1: Spirit of God. Behold, I have fasted and prayed many
- 16:52Speaker 1: days that I might know these things of myself. And
- 16:56Speaker 1: now I do know of myself that they are true.
- 16:59Speaker 1: For the Lord Lord God hath made them manifest unto
- 17:02Speaker 1: me by his Holy Spirit. And this is the spirit
- 17:05Speaker 1: of revelation which is in me. And moreover, I say
- 17:09Speaker 1: unto you that it has been revealed unto me that
- 17:12Speaker 1: the words which have been spoken by our fathers are true.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Even so according to the spirit of prophecy which is
- 17:18Speaker 1: in me, which is also by the manifestation of the.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Spirit of God.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I say unto you that I know of myself that
- 17:25Speaker 1: whatsoever I shall say unto you concerning that which is
- 17:28Speaker 1: to come, is true. And I say unto you that
- 17:32Speaker 1: I know that Jesus Christ shall come. Yea, the Son,
- 17:36Speaker 1: the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and
- 17:40Speaker 1: mercy and truth. And behold, it is he that cometh
- 17:44Speaker 1: to take away the sins of the world, yea, the
- 17:48Speaker 1: sins of every man who steadfastly believeth on his name.
- 17:52Speaker 1: And now I say unto you that this is the
- 17:54Speaker 1: order after which I am called. YEA, to preach unto
- 17:58Speaker 1: my beloved brethren, yea, and everyone that dwelleth in the land.
- 18:03Speaker 2: YEA.
- 18:03Speaker 1: To preach unto all, both old and young, both bond
- 18:07Speaker 1: and free.
- 18:08Speaker 2: YEA.
- 18:09Speaker 1: I say unto you the aged, and also the middle aged,
- 18:12Speaker 1: and the writhing generation, YEA, to cry unto them that
- 18:16Speaker 1: they must repent and be born again.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Yea.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Thus saith the Spirit repent all ye ends of the earth.
- 18:26Speaker 1: For the Kingdom of Heaven is soon at hand. YEA,
- 18:30Speaker 1: the Son of God cometh in his glory, in his might, majesty, power,
- 18:35Speaker 1: and dominion. Yea, my beloved brethren, I say unto you
- 18:40Speaker 1: that the Spirit saith.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Behold the glory.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Of the King of all the earth, and also the
- 18:46Speaker 1: King of Heaven, shall very soon shine forth among all
- 18:50Speaker 1: the children of men. And also the Spirit saith unto me.
- 18:54Speaker 1: YEA crieth unto me with a mighty voice, saying, go
- 18:59Speaker 1: forth and say unto this people, repent, for accept ye repent,
- 19:05Speaker 1: Ye can in no wise inherit the Kingdom of Heaven.
- 19:09Speaker 1: And again I say unto you, the Spirit saith. Behold,
- 19:13Speaker 1: the axe is laid at the root of the tree.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Therefore every tree that bringeth forth not good fruit shall
- 19:20Speaker 1: be hewn down and cast into the fire. YEA, a
- 19:24Speaker 1: fire which cannot be consumed, even an unquenchable fire. Behold,
- 19:29Speaker 1: and remember the Holy One hath spoken it. And now,
- 19:34Speaker 1: my beloved brethren, I say unto you. Can ye withstand
- 19:39Speaker 1: these sayings?
- 19:40Speaker 2: Yea?
- 19:41Speaker 1: Can ye lay aside these things and trample the Holy
- 19:44Speaker 1: One under your feet?
- 19:46Speaker 2: Yea?
- 19:47Speaker 1: Can ye be puffed up in the pride of your hearts?
- 19:51Speaker 2: Yea?
- 19:51Speaker 1: Will ye still persist in the wearing of costly apparel
- 19:55Speaker 1: and setting your hearts upon the vain things of the world,
- 19:59Speaker 1: upon your riches? YEA, will ye persist in supposing that
- 20:03Speaker 1: ye are better one than another?
- 20:06Speaker 2: YEA?
- 20:07Speaker 1: Will ye persist in the persecution of your brethren, who
- 20:10Speaker 1: humble themselves and do walk after the holy order of God,
- 20:14Speaker 1: wherewith they have been brought into this church, having been
- 20:17Speaker 1: sanctified by the Holy Spirit, And that they do bring
- 20:20Speaker 1: forth works which are meet for repentance.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Yea.
- 20:25Speaker 1: And will you persist in turning your backs upon the
- 20:28Speaker 1: poor and the needy, and in withholding your substance from them.
- 20:33Speaker 1: And finally, all ye that will persist in your wickedness,
- 20:37Speaker 1: I say unto you that these are they who shall
- 20:40Speaker 1: be hewn down and cast into the fire, except they
- 20:43Speaker 1: speedily repent. And now I say unto you, all that
- 20:47Speaker 1: are desirous to follow the voice of the Good Shepherd,
- 20:50Speaker 1: come ye out from the wicked, and be ye separate
- 20:55Speaker 1: and touch not their unclean things. And behold, their names
- 20:59Speaker 1: shall be blooded out, that the names of the wicked
- 21:02Speaker 1: shall not be numbered among the names of the righteous,
- 21:05Speaker 1: that the word of God may be fulfilled which saith.
- 21:08Speaker 1: The names of the wicked shall not be mingled with
- 21:11Speaker 1: the names of my people, for the names of the
- 21:13Speaker 1: righteous shall be written in the Book of Life. And
- 21:16Speaker 1: unto them will I grant an inheritance at my right
- 21:19Speaker 1: hand And now, my brethren, what have ye to say
- 21:22Speaker 1: against this? I say unto you. If ye speak against it,
- 21:26Speaker 1: it matters not, for the word.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Of God must be fulfilled.
- 21:31Speaker 1: For what shepherd is there among you, having many sheep,
- 21:34Speaker 1: does not watch over them, that the wolves enter not
- 21:37Speaker 1: and devour his flock. And behold, if a wolf enter
- 21:41Speaker 1: his flock, does he not drive them out? And yea,
- 21:45Speaker 1: at the last, if he can, he will destroy him.
- 21:50Speaker 1: And now I say unto you that the good Shepherd
- 21:52Speaker 1: does call after you, and if you will hearken unto
- 21:55Speaker 1: his voice, he will bring you into his fold.
- 21:58Speaker 2: And ye are his sheep.
- 22:00Speaker 1: And he commandeth you that ye suffered no ravenous wolf
- 22:04Speaker 1: to enter among you, that ye may not be destroyed.
- 22:07Speaker 1: And now I Alma, do command you in the language
- 22:11Speaker 1: of him who hath commanded me, that ye observe to
- 22:15Speaker 1: do the words which I have spoken. Unto you, I
- 22:18Speaker 1: speak by way of command, unto you that belonged to
- 22:21Speaker 1: the church, and unto those who do not belong to
- 22:24Speaker 1: the church, I speak by way of invitation, saying, come
- 22:28Speaker 1: and be baptized unto repentance, that ye may also be
- 22:33Speaker 1: partakers of the fruit of the tree of life end
- 22:37Speaker 1: of chapter five, Chapter six. And now it came to
- 22:43Speaker 1: pass that after Alma had made an end of speaking
- 22:46Speaker 1: unto the people of the church which was established in
- 22:48Speaker 1: the city of Zarahemla, he ordained priests and elders, by
- 22:53Speaker 1: laying on his hands, according to the order of God,
- 22:56Speaker 1: to preside and watch over the church. And it came
- 22:59Speaker 1: to path that whosoever did not belong to the church,
- 23:01Speaker 1: who repented of their sins, were baptized unto repentance, and
- 23:05Speaker 1: were received into the church. And it also came to
- 23:08Speaker 1: pass that whosoever did belong to the Church that did
- 23:11Speaker 1: not repent of their wickedness and humble themselves before God,
- 23:15Speaker 1: I mean those who were lifted up in the pride
- 23:17Speaker 1: of their hearts the saying were rejected and their names
- 23:21Speaker 1: were blotted out, that their names were not numbered among
- 23:24Speaker 1: those of the righteous. And thus they began to establish
- 23:27Speaker 1: the order of the church in the city of Zaraheimla.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Now would that ye should understand that the word of
- 23:32Speaker 1: God was liberal, until all that none were deprived of
- 23:36Speaker 1: the privilege of assembling themselves together to hear the word
- 23:39Speaker 1: of God. Nevertheless, the children of God were commanded that
- 23:43Speaker 1: they should gather themselves together oft and join in fasting
- 23:47Speaker 1: and mighty prayer, in behalf of the welfare of the
- 23:50Speaker 1: souls of those who.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Knew not God.
- 23:53Speaker 1: And it came to pass that when Alma had made
- 23:55Speaker 1: these regulations, he departed from them, Yea, from the church
- 23:59Speaker 1: which was in the city of zarah Rahemla. And he
- 24:01Speaker 1: went over upon the east of the river Sidon, into
- 24:04Speaker 1: the valley of Gideon, there having been a city built,
- 24:07Speaker 1: which was called the City of Gideon, which was in
- 24:10Speaker 1: the valley that was called Gideon, being called after the
- 24:13Speaker 1: man who was slain by the hand of Nahor with
- 24:15Speaker 1: the sword. And Almah went and began to declare the
- 24:19Speaker 1: word of God into the church which was established in
- 24:21Speaker 1: the valley of Gideon, according to the revelation of the
- 24:24Speaker 1: truth of the Word which had been spoken by his fathers,
- 24:27Speaker 1: and according to the spirit of prophecy which was in him,
- 24:30Speaker 1: according to the testimony of Jesus Christ, the son of God,
- 24:34Speaker 1: who should come to redeem his people from their sins,
- 24:37Speaker 1: and the holy order by which he was called. And
- 24:40Speaker 1: thus it is written amen end of chapter six, Chapter seven, Behold,
- 24:50Speaker 1: my beloved brethren, seeing that I have been permitted to
- 24:53Speaker 1: come unto you. Therefore I attempt to dress you in
- 24:56Speaker 1: my language. Yea by my own mouth. That is the
- 25:00Speaker 1: first time that I have spoken unto you by the
- 25:02Speaker 1: words of my mouth. I having been wholly confined to
- 25:05Speaker 1: the judgment seat, having had much business, that I could
- 25:08Speaker 1: not come unto you, And even I could not have
- 25:11Speaker 1: come now at this time, were it not that the
- 25:14Speaker 1: judgment seat hath been given to another to reign in
- 25:17Speaker 1: my stead, and that the Lord in much mercy has
- 25:20Speaker 1: granted that I should come unto you. And behold, I
- 25:24Speaker 1: have come having great hopes and much desire that I
- 25:27Speaker 1: should find that ye had humbled yourselves before God, and
- 25:31Speaker 1: that ye had continued in the supplicating of His grace,
- 25:34Speaker 1: and that I should find that ye were blameless before Him,
- 25:37Speaker 1: that I should find that ye were not in the
- 25:39Speaker 1: awful dilemma that our brethren were in at Zaraheimla. But
- 25:42Speaker 1: blessed me the name of God, that he hath given
- 25:45Speaker 1: me to know ye, having given unto me the exceedingly
- 25:48Speaker 1: great joy of knowing that they are established again in
- 25:52Speaker 1: the way of His righteousness. And I trust, according to
- 25:55Speaker 1: the Spirit of God which is in me, that I
- 25:57Speaker 1: shall also have joy over you. Nevertheless, I do not
- 26:01Speaker 1: desire that my joy over you should come by the
- 26:04Speaker 1: cause of so much afflictions and sorrow which I have
- 26:07Speaker 1: had for the brethren at Zaraheimla. For behold, my joy
- 26:12Speaker 1: cometh over them after wading through much.
- 26:14Speaker 2: Affliction and sorrow.
- 26:16Speaker 1: But behold, I trust that ye are not in a
- 26:18Speaker 1: state of so much unbelief as were your brethren. I
- 26:21Speaker 1: trust that ye are not lifted up in the pride
- 26:24Speaker 1: of your hearts.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Yea.
- 26:26Speaker 1: I trust that ye have not seen your hearts upon
- 26:28Speaker 1: riches and the vain things of the world. Yea, I
- 26:32Speaker 1: trust that ye do not worship idols, but that ye
- 26:34Speaker 1: do worship the True and Living God, and that ye
- 26:37Speaker 1: look forward for the remission of your sins with an
- 26:40Speaker 1: everlasting faith, which is to come. For behold, I say
- 26:45Speaker 1: unto you that there be many things to come. And behold,
- 26:48Speaker 1: there is one thing which is of more importance than
- 26:50Speaker 1: they all. For behold, the time is not far distant
- 26:54Speaker 1: that the Redeemer liveth and cometh among his people. Behold,
- 26:58Speaker 1: I do not say that he will among us at
- 27:00Speaker 1: the time of his dwelling in his mortal tabernacle. For behold,
- 27:04Speaker 1: the Spirit hath not said unto me that this should
- 27:07Speaker 1: be the case. Now as to this thing, I do
- 27:09Speaker 1: not know. But this much I do know.
- 27:12Speaker 2: That the Lord God hath power to do all.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Things which are according to his word. But behold, the
- 27:18Speaker 1: Spirit hath sed this much to me, saying cry unto
- 27:21Speaker 1: this people, saying, repent, ye, and prepare the way of
- 27:24Speaker 1: the Lord, and walk in his paths which are straight.
- 27:29Speaker 1: For behold, the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand, and
- 27:32Speaker 1: the Son of God cometh upon the faith of the earth.
- 27:35Speaker 1: And behold, he shall be born of Mary at Jerusalem,
- 27:39Speaker 1: which is in the land of our forefathers, she being
- 27:42Speaker 1: a virgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall be
- 27:46Speaker 1: overshadowed and conceived by the power of the Holy Ghost,
- 27:50Speaker 1: and bring forth a son, yea even the Son of God.
- 27:55Speaker 1: And he shall go forth suffering pains and afflictions and
- 27:59Speaker 1: temptation of every kind. And this that the Word might
- 28:03Speaker 1: be fulfilled, which saith, that he will take upon him
- 28:05Speaker 1: the pains and the sicknesses of his people, and he
- 28:09Speaker 1: will take upon him death, that he may lose the
- 28:11Speaker 1: bands of death which bind his people. He will take
- 28:14Speaker 1: upon him their infirmities, that his bowels may be filled
- 28:18Speaker 1: with mercy according to the flesh, that he may know
- 28:21Speaker 1: according to the flesh, how to succor his people according
- 28:24Speaker 1: to their infirmities. Now the Spirit knoweth all things. Nevertheless,
- 28:30Speaker 1: the Son of God suffereth according to the flesh, that
- 28:33Speaker 1: he might take upon him the sins of his people,
- 28:35Speaker 1: then he might blot out their transgressions according to the
- 28:38Speaker 1: power of his deliverance. And now behold, this is the
- 28:42Speaker 1: testimony which is in me. And now I say unto
- 28:45Speaker 1: you that ye must repent and be born again, for
- 28:48Speaker 1: the Spirit saith. If ye are not born again, ye
- 28:52Speaker 1: cannot inherit the Kingdom of heaven. Therefore, come and be
- 28:55Speaker 1: baptized unto repentance, that ye may be washed from your sins,
- 29:00Speaker 1: that ye may have faith unto the lamb of God,
- 29:02Speaker 1: who taketh away the sins of the world, who is
- 29:05Speaker 1: mighty to save and to cleanse from all unrighteousness. Yea,
- 29:10Speaker 1: I say unto you, Come and fear not, and lay
- 29:13Speaker 1: aside every sin which easily doth beset you, which doth
- 29:18Speaker 1: bind you down to destruction. YEA, come and go forth
- 29:22Speaker 1: and show unto your God that ye are willing to
- 29:24Speaker 1: repent of your sins and enter into a covenant with
- 29:28Speaker 1: Him to keep his commandments, and witness it unto him
- 29:32Speaker 1: this day by going into the waters of baptism. And
- 29:36Speaker 1: whosoever doeth this and keepeth the commandments of God, from
- 29:39Speaker 1: thenceforth the same will remember that I say unto him. Yea,
- 29:43Speaker 1: he will remember that I have said unto him, he
- 29:46Speaker 1: shall have eternal life, according to the testimony of the
- 29:49Speaker 1: Holy Spirit, which testifieth in me. And now, my beloved brethren,
- 29:54Speaker 1: do you believe these things? Behold, I say unto you, yea.
- 29:59Speaker 1: I know that ye ye believe them. And the way
- 30:01Speaker 1: that I know that ye believe them is by the
- 30:04Speaker 1: manifestation of the Spirit which is in me. And now,
- 30:08Speaker 1: because your face is strong concerning that, yea, concerning the
- 30:12Speaker 1: things which I have spoken, great is my joy. For
- 30:15Speaker 1: as I said unto you from the beginning, that I
- 30:18Speaker 1: had much desire, Ye were not in the state of
- 30:20Speaker 1: dilemma like your brethren. Even so I have found that
- 30:23Speaker 1: my desires have been gratified, for I perceive that ye
- 30:27Speaker 1: are in the paths of righteousness. I perceive that year
- 30:30Speaker 1: and in the paths which lead to the Kingdom of God. Yea,
- 30:33Speaker 1: I perceive that ye are making his paths straight. I
- 30:37Speaker 1: perceive that it has been made known unto you by
- 30:40Speaker 1: the testimony of His word, that he cannot walk in
- 30:43Speaker 1: crooked paths. Neither doth he vary from that which he
- 30:46Speaker 1: has said, Neither hath he a shadow of turning from
- 30:49Speaker 1: the right to the left, or from that which is
- 30:52Speaker 1: right to that which is wrong. Therefore his course is
- 30:55Speaker 1: one eternal round, and he does not dwell in unholy tempt.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Neither can filtiness or anything which is unclean be received
- 31:04Speaker 1: into the Kingdom of God.
- 31:06Speaker 2: Therefore, I say unto you, the.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Time shall come, yea, and it shall be at the
- 31:10Speaker 1: last day that he who is filthy shall remain in
- 31:14Speaker 1: his filthiness. And now, my beloved brethren, I have said
- 31:19Speaker 1: these things unto you, that I might awaken you to
- 31:21Speaker 1: a sense of your duty to God, that ye may
- 31:24Speaker 1: walk blameless before Him, that ye may walk after the
- 31:28Speaker 1: holy order of God, after which ye have been received.
- 31:32Speaker 1: And now I would that ye should be humble, and
- 31:34Speaker 1: be submissive and gentle, easy to be entreated, full of
- 31:38Speaker 1: patience and long suffering, being temperate in all things, being
- 31:43Speaker 1: diligent and keeping the commandments of God at all times,
- 31:46Speaker 1: asking for whatsoever things ye stand in need, both spiritual
- 31:51Speaker 1: and temporal, always returning thanks unto God for whatsoever things
- 31:55Speaker 1: ye do receive. And see that ye have faith, hope,
- 31:59Speaker 1: and charity. And then ye will always abound in good works.
- 32:03Speaker 1: And may the Lord bless you and keep your garments spotless,
- 32:07Speaker 1: that ye may at last be brought to sit down
- 32:10Speaker 1: with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the holy prophets who
- 32:13Speaker 1: have been ever since the world began, having your garments spotless,
- 32:18Speaker 1: even as their garments are spotless in the Kingdom of Heaven,
- 32:21Speaker 1: to go no more out. And now, my beloved brethren,
- 32:26Speaker 1: I have spoken these words unto you according to the
- 32:28Speaker 1: spirit which testifieth in me. And my soul does exceedingly
- 32:32Speaker 1: rejoice because of the exceeding diligence and heed which ye
- 32:36Speaker 1: have given unto my word. And now may the peace
- 32:40Speaker 1: of God rest upon you, and upon your houses and lands,
- 32:44Speaker 1: and upon your flocks and herds, and all that you possess,
- 32:48Speaker 1: your women and your children, according to your faith and
- 32:52Speaker 1: good works.
- 32:53Speaker 2: From this time forth and forever.
- 32:55Speaker 1: And thus I have spoken Amen. End of Chapter seven,
- 33:01Speaker 1: end of Alma
