- 0:19I'm Jessica and this is Taba K Rambles where a couple of
- 0:21friends review Korean dramas and we are back to review a slice of
- 0:26life K drama that really broke me to pieces.
- 0:29And for this episode, I am joined by my good friend Miguel.
- 0:32How are you, Miguel? I was all right.
- 0:37Yeah, we I was doing great. We were fine and then we watched
- 0:42Move to Heaven, which is what we'll be reviewing today.
- 0:45If you're unfamiliar with my guest host today, if you want to
- 0:50scroll back and listen to the two Squid Game episodes, you can
- 0:54listen to the 2521 review Snowdrop, First Love the Glory,
- 0:58Alice in Borderland. Miguel has been on the tip out
- 1:01for you quite a bit and I basically chose this a long time
- 1:07ago secretly and then finally talked to you about it at the
- 1:10beginning of the year. I think we were at a movie with
- 1:15our friends and we were chatting afterwards and you were talking
- 1:18about some of the media that you were consuming at the time.
- 1:22I think this was late 2024 or summer 2024 I think.
- 1:29Yeah, it was around that time. It was.
- 1:32Yeah. And you were just talking a
- 1:34little bit about how you were really resonating with some of
- 1:38the media, and one of them had to do with, like, grief.
- 1:42And you were talking a little bit about your grief journey
- 1:45with your mom. Yeah, all of us strangers, Yeah.
- 1:48And I said, I don't know why. I thought, oh, let's just up the
- 1:54ante here. Let's watch Move to Heaven.
- 1:57I said, oh, you would love Move to Heaven.
- 1:59This K drama that came out a few years ago.
- 2:01It's really good. And put that in a back pocket.
- 2:04Neither of us watched it, but you know, for Season 6 of
- 2:08Tibock, I was like, hey, I know we got Squid Game going on.
- 2:11I know season 2 and three are coming out in 2025 and we got
- 2:14that. But did you want to watch Move
- 2:17to Heaven? When you first mentioned it, I
- 2:21was like, you know, no, but this was at the very like, so I was
- 2:26looking for ways to kind of explore my grief in a kind of
- 2:30healthy way, which is a really difficult thing to do.
- 2:33You know, I think that a lot of media around grief can fall into
- 2:37like solipsism, despair, like just complete hopelessness.
- 2:41And no matter how bad it gets, I try to, you know it, it's
- 2:43important to have hope. It's important to have faith.
- 2:45So I was really careful with what I was watching.
- 2:48And so when you mentioned this, I had this very split thought of
- 2:51like, I understand It's like I think you would love this is a
- 2:55very weird way to phrase that. But it's also I knew what you
- 2:59meant. And I'm like, OK, well, at this
- 3:02point, this was you got me at the point where I started
- 3:05watching like Dazed and confused Dogma, Like I went from really
- 3:09highbrow grief to just keep living, man, hippie hangout
- 3:14movies and whatever. So I'm like, I'll put that in my
- 3:17back pocket and we'll come back to that.
- 3:20But when I saw the concept for Move to Heaven, even at the
- 3:23time, I'm like, OK, I'm not ready for this now.
- 3:26Whenever that was, I think it was last summer even or even
- 3:29early spring, it was very close. It was very close to when it all
- 3:32happened. I was like, this is a very
- 3:35interesting concept and I want to see it but I can't right now.
- 3:38Yeah, I mean, I didn't push it. I was like, you know?
- 3:40No, no. We'll do this later, if
- 3:42anything. I had like a mild panic attack
- 3:44because I'm like, wait, I want to come through for this because
- 3:46I love recording. But on the other hand, it's like
- 3:48no girl, like we'll come back to this.
- 3:50Yeah, I, I really didn't talk to you about Move to Heaven until
- 3:55basically like a year later when I was planning season 6 and I
- 3:59said, damn, I really do want to rewatch Move to Heaven.
- 4:02And if I'm going to rewatch it, I would love to extend the
- 4:06invitation first to you, Miguel, to see if you want to watch it
- 4:08and we can talk about it. And you said yes.
- 4:11So here we are. We're going to talk about here
- 4:14we are, damn it. So before we do, if this is your
- 4:18first time listening, thank you for listening.

- 5:06about Move to Heaven and I'll go ahead and read the MDL synopsis
- 5:10and we'll get into the non spoiler section and break for
- 5:13spoilers, OK? The MTL synopsis reads Han Guru
- 5:16is an autistic 20 year old. He works for his father's
- 5:19business Moved to Heaven, a company that specializes in
- 5:22crime scene cleanup where they also collect and arrange items
- 5:25left by deceased people and deliver them to the bereaved
- 5:28family. When Guru's father dies, Guru's
- 5:31guardianship passes to his uncle, ex convict to Sangu, who
- 5:36is a martial arts fighter in underground matches.
- 5:39Per the father's will, Sangu must care for and work with Guru
- 5:42and Move to Heaven for three months to gain full guardianship
- 5:45and claimed the inheritance. Eyeing money, Sangu agrees to
- 5:49the conditions and moves in. The show was adapted from the
- 5:52nonfiction essay Things Left Behind by professional trauma
- 5:56cleaner Kim Sibiol. Kim Sibiol is the first person
- 6:00in Korea who worked to arrange articles left by the deceased.
- 6:05So interesting. Very.
- 6:07Yeah. This show aired in its entirety
- 6:10on May 14th, 2021, and it is 10 episodes long.
- 6:16It is directed by Kim. So long.
- 6:18This is his first K drama directing job ever, but he's
- 6:23written and directed a lot of movies.
- 6:26Some of those were notebook from my mother, How to Steal a Dog.
- 6:30She came from fantastic pair of suicides, 1 Shining Day, a
- 6:35segment called The Treasure Island and into the Mirror.
- 6:38And there's more where that came from that he also just directed
- 6:41and didn't write and direct like Tarantino the whole thing
- 6:46because he directed one segment of this film called 1 shining
- 6:51day in 2006. It makes me think that he's
- 6:53familiar with doing sort of an anthology, and that's very close
- 6:59to what Moved to Heaven sort of is a lot of chapters of people's
- 7:03stories. The writer is Yunji Young, and
- 7:08she's done not very much, but what she has done is very
- 7:13iconic. She's only written Boys Over
- 7:16Flowers from 2009. Oh well, if that's all I mean.
- 7:24So she wrote Boys Over Flowers, She wrote Operation Proposal
- 7:27from 2012 and Angel Eyes from 2014.
- 7:31I have watched all three. I did end up dropping Operation
- 7:34Proposal. Operation Proposal is like a a
- 7:39butterfly effect show where there's this guy who really
- 7:43loves this girl, but she is the one that got away on her wedding
- 7:47day. He's kind of like, Oh my God,
- 7:50I've lost her forever. And he gets the chance to go
- 7:52back in time and like, fix it because there's certain
- 7:56junctures and moments in his life where he was like, if I
- 7:58didn't do this or if I picked the opposite thing, I could end
- 8:02up with her. We could be together.
- 8:04And every time he goes back to time, he just mucks it up even
- 8:09worse. Or he or she doesn't end up with
- 8:12him regardless. So it was just over and over
- 8:16again the same thing. When I'm going back, he changes
- 8:19nothing. It comes back to the present day
- 8:21still they're not together. It goes back in time, change
- 8:24something else and it's it's, it's honestly really frustrating
- 8:28and. It sounds really grueling.
- 8:30It was like it feels like the movie, right like that, like
- 8:34just having to go back. It's like this just keeps
- 8:36getting, bro, just stay where you are.
- 8:38Literally just let it. Just let it go.
- 8:39It wasn't meant to be. So that's operation proposal I
- 8:43never finished. I don't know how that ends.
- 8:45And then Angel Eyes, which is a story of first loves.
- 8:48They're like two teenagers. They're in love.
- 8:50But once the girl is blind and then through circumstances, they
- 8:55they can't be together. They grow up, but she has a like
- 8:59an eye surgery, like an eye transplant thing.
- 9:02So then as an adult, she can now see, but obviously she doesn't
- 9:07recognize him as an adult because she's never seen him.
- 9:13So like that whole thing, rekindling that first love from
- 9:18their youth, it's wild. It's very heart wrenching, all
- 9:21of it. Sounds, it sounds grueling.
- 9:24It sounds grilling. And it's like, oh, and for my
- 9:26next trick, I don't know, I'm going to film a baby kitten
- 9:30trying to wake up its mother that it doesn't realize is dead.
- 9:33Like for 10 episodes. Like, how much suffering can you
- 9:36take in a single lifetime? What is going on in Korea?
- 9:40We'll get into that with this show specifically because the
- 9:42amount of times I paused and I was like, bro, is this just
- 9:45America in a different font? Like, what is going on over
- 9:48there? Like, what do you mean the
- 9:51hospital's closed? Where am I Like Like I was like.
- 9:58I know. So to round out the cast, we
- 10:01have Idion, who plays Toh Sangu. He's the uncle.
- 10:04He's been in about 19 movies, 16 TV shows, including most
- 10:08recently The Art of Negotiation. He's been in Chief Detective
- 10:111958, all three Taxi Driver seasons, Where the Stars Land,
- 10:16one of my favorite time traveling romances, Tomorrow
- 10:19with You. And of course, we covered Signal
- 10:21from 2016 on the first season of Taebak.
- 10:25And as of today, I think this is still Rico's favorite K drama
- 10:30that he's ever watched. I could see that, yeah.
- 10:33You could see that. Yeah, that.
- 10:35Makes sense. It's pretty.
- 10:36Excellent, though it's a good choice.
- 10:38It's a class. It is.
- 10:39Tang Jung Sang plays Han Guru, and he's been about 10 movies
- 10:43and seven TV shows. He is pretty young.
- 10:45When I saw he was born in 2003, I was like, ah, Dagger to the
- 10:50heart. He's been in shows like oh, my
- 10:53ghost clients, Nootopia, Racket Boys, which is a sports show
- 10:56that I hear is very, very good. And of course, little show crash
- 11:01Landing on you from 2019-2020. You're like, oh.
- 11:05Yeah. A couple of side characters that
- 11:09I'll mention. Hong Sunghi plays Yun Namu.
- 11:12Her nickname in the show was Next Door.
- 11:15That's so funny. She's been in Navilera memorist
- 11:19psychopath diarrhea. I want to hear your song Just
- 11:21Dance. We've have covered Navilera on
- 11:23the podcast view if you want to scroll back and listen to that
- 11:25review. G Jin Lee plays Han Jung U He is
- 11:30the father to gudu. He's been in about 14 movies, 28
- 11:34television shows, including as far back as Jewel in the Palace
- 11:38from 2003, Spring Days, Dong Yi from 2010, Designated Survivor,
- 11:4360 Days from 2019, DP Season 2, which we have covered on the
- 11:47podcast feed, Romance in the House most recently, and 9
- 11:51Puzzles, which is a really, really good crime drama on
- 11:55Disney Plus that just I think finished airing like several
- 11:59days ago in 2025. So that is our main cast.
- 12:04I'm going to toss it over to you and ask, what did you think of
- 12:08Move to Heaven? I, I loved it.
- 12:11Yeah. I really loved it.
- 12:12I thought it was, I thought it was really beautiful.
- 12:15Like just the concept by itself of having trauma cleaners, which
- 12:19I didn't want to look into it in case it was one of those things
- 12:21where if I Google it'll, you know, bring up spoilers
- 12:25immediately. So hearing that it's actually
- 12:28based on something pretty real was really interesting to me.
- 12:33I love just the whole concept, like we're going to go in, we're
- 12:37going to take out everything that's the most painful and then
- 12:39you just deal with it on your own way.
- 12:41So I loved it. I think the characters were
- 12:43really strong. Every single one of them kind of
- 12:46had their own thing going for them, but it was also just gut
- 12:52wrenching. Like it was just really, really
- 12:55gut wrenching. And I don't like, I think, how
- 13:02do I put this? I think they really did a good
- 13:04job of like the show was presented very plainly, right?
- 13:10I never got the impression that there was a lot of melodrama
- 13:14forcing you to feel bad about something and having go to his
- 13:17character, he has Asperger's, if I'm right with that, right.
- 13:22So I actually follow a few different pages on TikTok about
- 13:25Asperger's and kind of how they live and a day in the life kind
- 13:29of stuff. And I found having his character
- 13:32be front and center with his condition acted as a really
- 13:36grounding personality to everything that was going on.
- 13:42He can't display the emotion that he feels.
- 13:45He has a very matter of fact way of approaching everything.
- 13:48So instead of having like Comic Relief where oh, we got to make
- 13:52a joke because this is getting too bleak.
- 13:54Just his presence and how he presents things kind of gives
- 13:56everything like a final line to everything.
- 14:00It's a very it is what it is show.
- 14:02Of course, that changes as we go on.
- 14:04But I thought that was a really interesting concept and it was
- 14:07really just funds, not the right word, but it was a very it was a
- 14:12solid watch. This is probably one of my
- 14:14favorite K dramas in a while, yeah.
- 14:17I'm glad to hear you say that because I was really worried
- 14:19that it was going to hit you sideways or something because it
- 14:23is not it's, it's a heavy watch, right?
- 14:26Like this. As much as I love slice of life,
- 14:30when it's done well, also when it's done well, it's going to
- 14:34freaking wreck you. And this is one of those shows
- 14:38where if you're into it, it's going to really upturn you.
- 14:43And it's emotionally just a beautiful story.
- 14:48And it's talking a lot about grief, how you handle it, how
- 14:52different people that are neurodivergent would handle the
- 14:55same event. And it's all a valid experience.
- 15:01Like it's there's nothing greater or lesser.
- 15:06How should you look at life? How should you look at the
- 15:09losses that you take in your life?
- 15:11And I think that ultimately the show is very optimistic.
- 15:15About everything, yeah, that's the word.
- 15:18That's a word that I would use. And I feel like that's not
- 15:21something that's very common and there's a very life goes on
- 15:25approach to it. Like there's still pain and
- 15:27reconciling literally and figuratively with what people
- 15:31left behind. Just showing that death isn't
- 15:34really the end. Like everything gets affected by
- 15:37a person's death, whether love, hate, indifference, anything,
- 15:41that death is going to reverberate and cut through
- 15:43everything and it's only a matter of time before you run
- 15:47into it. But it handles it with optimism,
- 15:49which you really don't see. Like you really don't see
- 15:52optimism with stuff like this or the topic of death in general.
- 15:55So, yeah, interesting. And I'm one of those I have a
- 16:01morbid fascination with trauma cleaners and crime scene
- 16:05biohazard cleaners. And so before I even watched the
- 16:09show, I had already known about this profession, if that makes
- 16:13any sense. What took it to the next level?
- 16:15What's the K drama of it is that they go above and beyond, right?
- 16:19And they kind of like get at that in the show is that they're
- 16:21not just coming in and wiping away all traces of this person.
- 16:25So you don't have to deal with cleaning up all the family
- 16:28photos and getting rid of all these receipts.
- 16:31And of course, also the nitty gritty of like there might have
- 16:35been a putrid body in the room that needs special care and
- 16:39handling to get all of the cleaning done, all of the
- 16:42sanitation handled. They are actively seeking out
- 16:47family members or people that were important to the deceased
- 16:51and giving closure, giving catharsis to these people,
- 16:57helping the deceased speak from beyond the grave.
- 17:01Giving them dignity was such a huge part of it, like even in
- 17:06the most gruesome death that we see, which we'll get into, they
- 17:10were especially Guru and his father, they were very steadfast
- 17:13about, OK, we're here to clean something up.
- 17:16Let's pay respect. Let's do this with respect and
- 17:20just piercing together what this person was thinking, who they
- 17:22were, what they left. Everything's a story.
- 17:25It's so good, Yeah. I love that.
- 17:27I love that part of it other than the just general interest
- 17:31piece of it of like this person was left in the room for three
- 17:36months and then we came in and we had to, you know, there was a
- 17:39lot of stuff got under the tiles and we had to.
- 17:42I am super interested in that. And I understand that's not
- 17:44everyone's fascination. I know that that's might be
- 17:47unique to a certain subset of people.
- 17:49Might be the true crime girlies out there may understand me a
- 17:52little better than the usual slice of life K drama girlies.
- 17:55But that's just me. And that is also what made the
- 18:00show different, I think, for a lot of people, is that there is
- 18:04a morbid aspect to it, but there is, like you said, a lot of
- 18:09dignity to this profession. And the way these characters,
- 18:14you know, handle all of the belongings, all even the space,
- 18:17when they walk into it, they pay respect.
- 18:19As soon as they walk into it, they introduce themselves to the
- 18:22deceased. It's very beautiful and
- 18:24intentional. And the box being yellow.
- 18:27Oh stop it. Like the box being yellow.
- 18:30Oh my God. Yeah, well, do you want to talk
- 18:32about why the box is yellow or? You're just my interpretation.
- 18:36Yellow, I mean, yellow is just the most joyful color, right?
- 18:39I mean, everything about how they're set up is so optimistic.
- 18:44The fact that the company is called Move to Heaven, I mean,
- 18:47come on, that's pretty good. And then like the box being
- 18:50yellow, it's just such a joyful box.
- 18:53And when you open that, the inside is yellow, the outside,
- 18:55it's like very intentional design.
- 18:57So when you open the box, you would see how the light would
- 19:00shine in. And just like everything looks
- 19:02illuminated in the box. Everything looks beautiful and
- 19:04joyful and like, hey, this is the most prized possessions.
- 19:08They're left behind, but they're in a safe, happy, bright place.
- 19:12I love that. Like when I saw the box, I was
- 19:14like, but I have a whole thing with yellow.
- 19:16I love you. I'm wearing yellow.
- 19:17I. Love yellow.
- 19:19I love yellow. Joyful color, yeah.
- 19:21But yeah, I just. That's a little detail that
- 19:23stuck out to me immediately. I was like, oh cool.
- 19:25Yeah. So.
- 19:27You mentioned Gudu and how he is basically the conduit through
- 19:30which we view the show a lot of the time, and he's a very
- 19:34sympathetic character. His grief is, I think, what
- 19:37breaks me the most when I rewatched the show.
- 19:41How did you find him and what what were your thoughts about
- 19:46Han Guru as a character? I'm gonna do as a character, I
- 19:50think really, he broke my heart the most out of anything that
- 19:55happened in that show, except for one thing.
- 19:58But even that takes second place to I found his character very
- 20:02difficult to reconcile with because even with being
- 20:06neurodivergent, it shows that we all kind of experience the
- 20:10stages of grief in the same way. He may not recognize it right
- 20:14away, He may not process it at the same time, but that's
- 20:18variable. It doesn't it?
- 20:19It really gave him a strong kind of point confronting death and
- 20:25confronting his own grief. And the stages, if you watch the
- 20:28show really carefully, you can see them unfolding.
- 20:31And he gets more and more agitated because he doesn't
- 20:33understand what he's going through until it hits him.
- 20:37And when it hits him, it hits US.
- 20:39And when it hits US, it kills everybody in the city because
- 20:42it's so incredibly sad. But I think this was a really
- 20:48good representation of grief from a very, as far as I've
- 20:52seen, uncommon perspective. But I think it is character was
- 20:59he was funny, even if unintentionally.
- 21:01And at times he was, he had a very strong sense of what was
- 21:05right and wrong. And his grief journey is just
- 21:08like ours, just like everyone's like I loved him as a central
- 21:12character. He's one of the most interesting
- 21:13characters I've seen in a long time.
- 21:15Along with that, I want to say this is something that stood out
- 21:20to me because I was hoping it wouldn't be like this and
- 21:22thankfully it wasn't. There's a lot of shows that will
- 21:25take a neurodivergent character like Oh my God, The Good Doctor,
- 21:30The Big Bang Theory, House, or at least they're perceived to
- 21:34be. If not, some of them are exposed
- 21:36this summer and they they'll always take one of two routes
- 21:40with it and both are so cringe inducing and horrible.
- 21:43Either they take the comedy route where everything they say
- 21:47is like, ah, he's so funny because he doesn't get one and
- 21:49it kind of it feels icky, or they make him into this like
- 21:54wide reaching savant and everybody's in awe of him and
- 21:58everybody. And they didn't do that with
- 22:01him. They respected Guru's character.
- 22:03Like, sure, there was people who didn't understand, but right off
- 22:05RIP, they noticed. OK, there's something about this
- 22:08guy that's a little bit different.
- 22:09Some people react poorly to it and they're rude, but they would
- 22:12be rude to anybody. And he'll confront people who
- 22:15can recognize his talent, but they're not falling over
- 22:17themselves making a big deal of like, wow, he knows all this.
- 22:21So his character was treated with so much respect, being
- 22:25neurodivergent, but also the universe that he's in is a
- 22:28little more grounded to that fact and very accommodating to
- 22:32that. It's a world where people get
- 22:34frustrated when they don't know what's going on, but they're
- 22:36encouraged by other people to ask questions instead of making
- 22:39assumptions. And I really like that, Like, a
- 22:41lot. What did you get out and go to
- 22:43his character? Like did you?
- 22:46I think the first time I watched it, I was completely enamoured
- 22:51by him. I was totally on his side and
- 22:54was really upset with everyone around him who didn't understand
- 22:59or weren't sympathetic toward him, if that makes any sense.
- 23:03Yes, and this rewatch, I was still very drawn to him, very
- 23:07connected with him. But Ijan's character of Sangu,
- 23:11the uncle, I understood him a lot more.
- 23:14And I don't know if it's because I have four more years of life
- 23:17under my belt, but I'm like, I understand.
- 23:18I, you know, him not understanding Gudu and being
- 23:23very impatient with him and very aggressive and sort of like the
- 23:28way he speaks and he's so gruff and everything.
- 23:31I'm like, yeah. But he, you know, look at
- 23:33everything that happened to him. He what do you think he's going
- 23:36to have read all of the books on autism and all of the literature
- 23:42and all of the YouTube videos that say, oh, so don't do this,
- 23:45do that, don't do this, do that. No, like he's just no.
- 23:49He literally just got a yeah like.
- 23:51Like please. And was foisted on this adult
- 23:56and this responsibility. So right, you know, Yeah.
- 23:58So I had a lot more grace for EJ Inn's character of Sangu and his
- 24:04journey as well. What did you think of EJ Inn's
- 24:08Sangu, the Uncle character? I think with the uncle, I
- 24:12actually really liked him from the very beginning.
- 24:14I think that, well, we operate from the idea that if somebody
- 24:18behaves the way he does, you know, short tempered, stressed
- 24:21out, whatever, they have a lot of things that they haven't
- 24:23confronted. So you can give grace to someone
- 24:25like that. And I felt the same way, like,
- 24:27OK, we didn't know his deal from the very beginning, but just
- 24:31getting out of jail, you, you get out of jail to find out, you
- 24:34know, is it, is it a spoiler? His brother, Yeah, it's in the
- 24:38MDL synopsis at his. Yeah, So he gets out like, you
- 24:41find out your brother's dead. You know, you find out you have
- 24:45to take over as a guardian for your nephew and then live in
- 24:50your. Like, it's just such a stressful
- 24:52situation for anybody. And you get to the place, you
- 24:55realize there's all these conditions that are attached to
- 24:57it. They use it and ask for you
- 24:58didn't even have a good relationship with your brother.
- 25:00So I had a lot of empathy for his character.
- 25:03And besides that, I found him really funny.
- 25:05No idea. He's like.
- 25:06Super great. He's so.
- 25:07Funny, literally. Like he, he was a bit rough.
- 25:11He was a bit, but I didn't see him necessarily as a bad guy.
- 25:16Like if they were trying to make us hate him at the beginning, it
- 25:18didn't click for me. I was like this.
- 25:20He's just funny and he's not going to go out of his way to
- 25:23abuse his nephew. But I liked him.
- 25:27I thought it was funny. I thought he stepped up to do
- 25:29the right thing when he needed to, you know?
- 25:31And just watching his growth as a character is really rewarding.
- 25:36I agree. Like he has a very good payoff.
- 25:39So I totally agree. There's a moment with him that
- 25:42we can get into in the spoiler section that yeah, broke me in
- 25:45half. And I don't know if it the same
- 25:49moment broke you, but yeah, I love EJ and he's a great actor.
- 25:54And this role is suitably gross. Like it's it's a gross person.
- 25:58He doesn't have great sense of personal hygiene and he's he.
- 26:02Has a mullet. He has a.
- 26:03Mullet, He's kind of an oath, but I like him.
- 26:08It like despite everything, I like him.
- 26:10I thought on this watch that moved to heaven reminded me a
- 26:13lot of Rain Man. Oh, OK.
- 26:15Oh, you know what? Yeah, I could see that.
- 26:18Where Eden's character is Charlie Babbitt, which is Tom
- 26:22Cruise's character in Rain Man. And it's like the same setup,
- 26:25you know, he learns that his estranged father has died in
- 26:29Rain Man and he returns home to discover he's completely
- 26:32basically cut out of the will. All he has is the Rose, the Rose
- 26:36Bush famously, and one car left by his father.
- 26:39But the millions of fortune that his father left behind is left
- 26:44to the mental institution where his older brother Raymond, and
- 26:48lives. That's Dustin Hoffman's
- 26:50character. And Dustin Hoffman plays
- 26:52another, you know, autistic savant who, yeah, very famously
- 26:58goes to Vegas and, like, takes Vegas.
- 27:03That's that's the thing with Korean dramas though, right?
- 27:05Like you'll be watching something in 1/4 of the way
- 27:07through and like, wait a minute, this seems familiar.
- 27:09This. Seems familiar.
- 27:10It's like, let's go. And then it's always a 90s
- 27:12movie. And you're like, right, yeah.
- 27:14I mean. Let me be clear, it's a very
- 27:18good spin on DO. A Little Rain Man, which is in
- 27:211988, it kind of swept the Oscars that year, was the number
- 27:24one grossing movie that year. And at the end of the movie,
- 27:29it's very similar to Move to Heaven where their lives are
- 27:32changed, right? Their perspectives are
- 27:34different. And maybe Dustin Hoffman's
- 27:38Raymond isn't in any way, shape or form a cured or anything of
- 27:43his condition. But in rubbing elbows with his
- 27:48brother, Charlie Babbitt's Tom Cruise.
- 27:51Tom Cruise's Charlie Babbitt, I should say, is changed.
- 27:54She's like, it doesn't matter. The money doesn't matter
- 27:56anymore. I'm just happy to have a
- 27:58brother, Yeah. With understanding comes, you
- 28:01know, Yeah, coexistence and all the rest of it.
- 28:03And. It's very similar to Move to
- 28:06Heaven, where, you know, Sangu, the uncle is like, yeah, it's
- 28:10really not about the money anymore.
- 28:13Yeah, What can I contribute? You know, I'm just so happy to
- 28:19have this nephew and care for him.
- 28:21And, you know, there's a real connection and bond here that
- 28:24we've forged in the last three months.
- 28:26And none of this is explicitly stated, which I love.
- 28:29No, it's actually you're wondering until the very last
- 28:32minute whether or not it's actually clicking.
- 28:34And it's like, oh, OK, OK, thank.
- 28:38God, absolutely. Who is the most annoying
- 28:40character to you? Next door's mom.
- 28:45Oh my God, yes. Like girl, leave me alone.
- 28:50Like I get like my God. And you know, let me be clear.
- 28:55She's not even in the show that no she like if we had to count
- 28:58maybe 5 appearances maybe, but just the nagging and the
- 29:04screaming and the throwing of cops and this and that.
- 29:07Like by far, yeah. I didn't really have a problem
- 29:11with even next door. Next door was a little bit
- 29:13pushy, but it's justified considering, you know, they're
- 29:17young. She's a next door neighbor.
- 29:19She cares for this person who she sees as defenseless and is,
- 29:24like, freshly an orphan. So even on her worst day, I'll
- 29:29be like, OK. Like, she means well.
- 29:31The mom, though, like, how dare you go over there and it's bad
- 29:35luck to clean out people's houses and you're lying to me.
- 29:38And you're like, non-stop. Like, yeah, enough.
- 29:41Yeah, there's enough. It's just like a superstitious
- 29:45bunch over there. It's always with the
- 29:47superstition. Don't leave a ceiling fan on.
- 29:49You'll die like you've heard about that, no?
- 29:51What's that about? Yeah, so apparently they don't.
- 29:55And correct me if I'm wrong, I've read this a few times over
- 29:58the years. I've looked into it, but
- 30:01apparently in Korean culture there's something called Korean
- 30:05fan death where you can't just leave a fan on because you'll
- 30:10die and it started from some electrical.
- 30:13It started with a very reasonable explanation, but then
- 30:17it evolved into like, it's bad luck to have a fan on.
- 30:20And I'm a superstitious guy. I don't know if you know that,
- 30:24but in a very, very, very mild, small ways, like the salt over
- 30:28the shoulder thing, whatever. But but leaving a fan on like
- 30:32it's hot, like we live in, we can't touch that.
- 30:35We're going to get cursed. You know what I mean?
- 30:37Like, yeah, it's adaptable superstition.
- 30:41I'm leaving the fan on. All right.
- 30:44Well, I think we've come to the point where we can probably get
- 30:48into the spoiler section. So what would you rate this show
- 30:51out of Fives Hoju bottles? 4 1/2 Four.
- 30:54And a half, all right, I would give it a four.
- 30:56What is the half point off for? There is something that didn't
- 31:01pay off at all for me. It's a major plot point.
- 31:05It's with the encore and I don't.
- 31:08I feel like if they had a couple more episodes, it would have
- 31:11paid off. But sometimes I wonder whether
- 31:14or not they should have introduced it at all.
- 31:16Because we come to the end of it and I'm like, OK, I feel like
- 31:21maybe there was supposed to be a second season.
- 31:23It feels like there was supposed to be a second season.
- 31:26So I was already, like, on top of all the mourning and
- 31:28grieving, that was something I had to add to my plate because
- 31:31I'm like, what the fuck is Season 2?
- 31:33Like, excuse me, I'm sorry, but like, where is it?
- 31:35I'm like clicking frantically like where is in it, but other
- 31:40than that, and it's, it's such a small thing in general in terms
- 31:42of things I didn't like, but by virtue of that, I can't give it
- 31:46a 5, but I'll give it a four and a half, okay?
- 31:50I'll give it a 5 out of five because I love this show.
- 31:53There's probably very, very few things that I would change about
- 31:56it, if anything, if I can even come up with something in this
- 32:00episode to necessarily complain about.
- 32:02I love the show. I think it was better on 2nd
- 32:05watch. It hit me so very deeply.
- 32:07I was crying. I was sobbing especially in the
- 32:10final episode. And you mentioned season 2.
- 32:13There is no season 2, unfortunately or fortunately.
- 32:17I of the opinion that K dramas should just stick to the one
- 32:22season format as is traditional. And I don't see the need to
- 32:28return for a season 2, although you can interpret the very final
- 32:33scene as being like, well, then what's going to happen with this
- 32:36person like it? There has to be.
- 32:38There's more stories and you absolutely can iterate.
- 32:40You can certainly do more Move to heaven clients and stories
- 32:46drum up some through line for the nephew and the uncle to
- 32:51solve in the course of a season 2.
- 32:53I. Genuinely and generally don't
- 32:56care for a season 2 and there has been nowhere of a season 2.
- 33:01I looked up move to have in season 2 to see if there was
- 33:04anything about it. Netflix hasn't said anything
- 33:06about it. There's fake trailers online for
- 33:09a season 2. Yeah, I.
- 33:10Kept coming across that sketchy blog on Filipino Facebook.
- 33:13Yeah, like. People will those K drama
- 33:16editors are like fucking vile. They'll do whatever to just get
- 33:20someone to click on their page and that is, I think that's
- 33:24evil. Like people genuinely connected
- 33:26with the story and they want, if they want a season 2, they're
- 33:28looking for this online and then they see this fake ass trailer
- 33:31like that's rude. That's so rude.
- 33:33Horrible. So unfortunately for in your
- 33:36case, there is no season 2 and I'm sure that upset you.
- 33:39I'm sure that's part of the .5. Yeah, but not for the reason you
- 33:43would think. It wasn't for the final scene,
- 33:46it was for something else. OK.
- 33:48OK. Yeah.
- 33:49All right. The final scene, I'm like, OK,
- 33:51OK, But like, yeah, OK. We'll go get into it.
- 33:56Yeah, yeah. Get into it.
- 33:57Yeah. Right after this.
- 34:00Excuse me. I can't tell.
- 34:02I can't tell. You know I have no tingle.
- 34:07Oh, sorry. Swear discussing shirts.
- 34:10What All right, we're on the other side of spoilers.
- 34:16So we are going to talk a little more in depth about what happens
- 34:20in Move to Heaven and I would love to start us off and know
- 34:24what what made you downrate and move to Heaven.
- 34:28What got me was the Fight Club thing.
- 34:31OK, The Fight Club thing confused me.
- 34:34I felt like they were building something, but I never really
- 34:38felt the stakes of the Fight Club.
- 34:41I felt like there was a tension with the uncle just like, OK,
- 34:45like, you know, he has someone after him.
- 34:48He's going to gamble away the house and this.
- 34:50But I never felt the stakes of that.
- 34:52I never. So when there's finally a battle
- 34:55and then his friend is like let or his prodigy that he brought
- 35:00up, it just felt like not a useless pop point, but it I felt
- 35:04like it should have either been resolved by the time he got to
- 35:06the house and he just lives with that grief and lives with his
- 35:11own regret. But every time they would go
- 35:13back to it just, I was like, OK, like, what's the threat?
- 35:18Yeah, I think you know. What I mean like I didn't, I
- 35:20didn't get it. Like I didn't get what they were
- 35:22doing with it. So OK, I took.
- 35:23This way differently than you because even though it ends with
- 35:26a little bit of a wah wah wah in the story, I took it a little
- 35:32better than you because he does need this kind of closure with
- 35:38his protege, his friend that he trained and was in a coma.
- 35:43And this friend was actually he this this guy is actually really
- 35:47famous now. It's Iduk.
- 35:49He plays Kim Sochol, who's the protege dude who he saves from
- 35:55like a bullying situation. And then he just sticks around
- 35:59and becomes a national boxing champion, which I was like, OK,
- 36:06all right. But I was like, you know,
- 36:09Korea's really small. But anyways, so, you know, all
- 36:16this to say, he is basically still ensnared by this old life
- 36:20of his where he's in this underground Fight Club and the
- 36:25the bitch bookie who's, you know, lying to him and saying
- 36:29like, Oh yeah, I got like a new fighter for tonight.
- 36:31She's very exploitative and conniving and she is still like
- 36:37trying to drag him into this life and say like, oh, you owe
- 36:40me because she's the one that's paying the hospital bills for E,
- 36:43jokes Sutrol. Like that?
- 36:46Character. Oh crap, never mind, I take it
- 36:49back. I forgot about that detail.
- 36:52Entirely OK, OK. That's what she's like.
- 36:54You got to fight. You have to fight.
- 36:55Please come back and fight. And he's like, no, no, no.
- 36:58But also he is desperate to save Sutrol.
- 37:04He is immensely guilty. Yeah.
- 37:08Over what? He, he's still alive.
- 37:10So it's him trying to hold on to like, OK, all right, I get it
- 37:15now. Never mind, I'd like to change
- 37:17that. And now it's a 5.
- 37:20No, I mean, like it's still if, if it didn't work for you,
- 37:24that's fine. But that's this is how I took it
- 37:27and how I was reading it is that he was just so, so in pain, so
- 37:32guilty and would do anything to save his life.
- 37:36And it was never part of the, you know, you would think that
- 37:41maybe he's like, no, you have to get him to live so that I don't
- 37:45go away from murder, right? He's like, no but.
- 37:47It's not, Yeah. It's not that at all.
- 37:50He's saying you have to get him to live because I, I basically
- 37:53can't live with myself if he died and you and I'm not going
- 37:56to let you live either if he dies because it's totally on you
- 38:00as well. That's real.
- 38:02And then what? The bookie, the bookie being in
- 38:04the world that she is, when he does die, she's like, you should
- 38:08be thanking me, like, that's all your problems gone, right?
- 38:12You're dead. You're not going away.
- 38:14Like, you're fine. And it's like, I'm not fine.
- 38:17So yeah. It's it's painful.
- 38:19And that character as well serves as a almost like a found
- 38:24family type of deal for Sambu's character before he obviously
- 38:30reconnects with Gudu and the whole, yeah, gosh, that side of
- 38:34the family. His brother, his blood brother
- 38:38is, you know, he spent years presumably training this kid,
- 38:43watching him rise up the ranks and become a boxing champion.
- 38:46He says he wants him to go to a sport university or become, you
- 38:51know, an Olympian. But get get out of this life
- 38:55somehow and don't be like him because he's in a freaking
- 38:58underground Fight Club. He's not.
- 39:02He's like, I don't be like me. So I thought that was all part
- 39:06of him taking responsibility for someone other than himself, for
- 39:11him loving somebody else other than himself.
- 39:13And then when he makes a mistake and loses that person, it's
- 39:18completely devastating to him, to his character.
- 39:21Yeah, and it forces him to confront his old grief with.
- 39:25His brother, yes, exactly so. You know.
- 39:28Because Sichol was calling him hyung, you know, older brother,
- 39:32it's, it's a lot. It's a lot in there that's
- 39:35packed into that one relationship.
- 39:37One thing that I found interesting was that Suto's
- 39:40younger sister was the one that was taking care of him in the
- 39:43hospital. And when Sangu goes to visit the
- 39:47hospital, she's like, look at what I'm doing.
- 39:49Like this is what the reality is, is that I'm giving him
- 39:52sponge baths. He has no consciousness, he's in
- 39:55a full on coma. He's brain dead.
- 39:58This is no life. No, even if they were to get
- 40:01because there's the moment with the surgery and the doctor very
- 40:04plainly tells him, look, we can do it, but he's he's going to
- 40:07die in surgery. There's just no.
- 40:09And he tries to get it done anyway, but even his sister's
- 40:12like, you need to let this go. You need to let this go.
- 40:14And that's like. He's gone.
- 40:15Even if they fix it, he's gone. So yeah.
- 40:17I found that really special, and that is a type of grief that I'm
- 40:23sure a lot of younger audience members have never dealt with of
- 40:28caregiving for a family member. Yeah, it's not.
- 40:32I think that it's very. If you haven't been through it,
- 40:35it's very like, first of all, it's.
- 40:38Complicated. It's complex.
- 40:40It's very, I felt. A lot for the sister and I was
- 40:43very upset with Sangu who is basically delaying the
- 40:47inevitable and throwing money down the drain, hoping that he
- 40:51will get better or hoping that he'll just subsist in this
- 40:55vegetable like state. Yeah, because before they're
- 40:58gone, I think a lot of people from the outside would look at
- 41:00that and say, well, wouldn't you want to keep them alive?
- 41:03And it's like, no, because there are fates that are worse than
- 41:06death. There are situations that are
- 41:08worse than death and a situation just really begins to rot.
- 41:12It's easy to look at that. And it's like, oh, well, what do
- 41:15you mean you're going to sign a do not resuscitate form?
- 41:18What do you mean you're not? And it's like, and if you're
- 41:20directly in it, it's like it's not about an inconvenience.
- 41:22It's not about a burden. It's not about a loss of love in
- 41:27most cases. I mean, there's so many, it's a
- 41:29kaleidoscope of just like earth shattering grief that happens
- 41:32before what you know is going to happen is going to happen.
- 41:36So you look at a situation like that and at a certain point
- 41:39there's this acceptance where it's like I have to let go
- 41:42because if I don't let go, this is going to undo me and
- 41:45everybody around me. And also the reality of the
- 41:47situation is very plain. And his sister was there and you
- 41:51can recognize, I'm sure you you saw it like on her face.
- 41:54She's like, no, like this, this needs to end.
- 41:56It's. No life for her, it's no life
- 41:58for him. You know, Sutol, the kid that's
- 42:00in a coma, you know, Sangu just didn't see that.
- 42:04He was like, no, he has to stay alive.
- 42:06Yeah, that's but. He never changed a diaper.
- 42:11I mean, yeah, very. It's very evident.
- 42:14If you know, you know, Right. So like it, it makes sense why
- 42:17he would want to do that. But ultimately what ended up
- 42:20happening was for the best. So yeah, like it had to be so.
- 42:24Yeah. So.
- 42:26OK, so we've gone over over that whole thing, but there's so
- 42:30there's so many stories. What was your favorite episode
- 42:33or or you know story client of Move to Heaven?
- 42:38Favorite is such a funny. Well, let's say I'm kidding.
- 42:41I'm kidding. It's fine.
- 42:42Not. Favorite, but, you know,
- 42:44memorable ones, no. Yeah, the most memorable ones.
- 42:48Oh, OK. The most memorable ones were the
- 42:51school teacher. OK.
- 42:55All right. Talk about it.
- 42:56Yeah. The school teacher, 1, was
- 42:58grueling. It was just grueling because it
- 43:03was my favorite because three major things happen.
- 43:07First, there's a school teacher, you know, she, she's looking
- 43:11after the kids. She's doing living her life.
- 43:14A friend teacher of hers just introduces her to this guy.
- 43:17This guy becomes incredibly obsessed with her and ultimately
- 43:21just kills her. But what I love about that
- 43:24episode specifically is that good shows that he understands
- 43:28love, what it is and what it isn't.
- 43:30He can differentiate obsession and like possession from actual
- 43:35true love. And we get to see in his own
- 43:39way. It took me a while to get it,
- 43:40but we get to see in his own way, him expressing real anger
- 43:45towards the school teacher's assailant.
- 43:47Like her murderer. Yeah, the stalker.
- 43:50So he, I love the way that that episode played out for the
- 43:53detective work. You know, they get there and get
- 43:56her pieces together. He's like, this woman keeps all
- 43:59of these instruction manuals to everything.
- 44:01We found everything except for the camera.
- 44:03She doesn't have a pet. She knew she was in danger.
- 44:06Works with the prosecutor. The prosecutor shows him the
- 44:09video, which was gut wrenched. Well, that wrong choice of
- 44:12words, no pun intended, gut wrenching like shows him killing
- 44:16her and saying you're a cruel person, you're a liar, you're
- 44:18all this stuff and. He just starts laughing, yeah.
- 44:21He just starts laughing even as the lawyer.
- 44:24Was gagged the. Defensive lawyer was like and
- 44:27he's just like looking down like holy shit, who am I defending?
- 44:31I love that episode because it shows and all the episodes do in
- 44:35their own way. They show different kinds of
- 44:37love and different kinds of the impact that a person will make
- 44:41on people's lives. So my favorite moment of that
- 44:44episode, aside from the camera reveal and everything, because I
- 44:47love detective work. I think you know this like I
- 44:50wanted to be a detective, I wanted to do all this.
- 44:52So seeing all that play out is so cool.
- 44:55But when go to is like, it kind of flips the narrative.
- 44:59I have to give this box to somebody who understands and I
- 45:02need to show. So he shows this drawing of all
- 45:05her students that will no longer be able to ever see her again
- 45:09and how much they love her and how, oh, when I grow up, I want
- 45:12to marry you. Oh, you're so pretty.
- 45:14Thanks for not yelling at me for not eating broccoli, whatever.
- 45:17And Gooder just keeps repeating over and over like, you didn't
- 45:21love her, you didn't love her, you didn't love her.
- 45:23And it clicked in my head at that point.
- 45:25It's like, oh, he can't. His condition doesn't let him
- 45:29really super duper express outwardly.
- 45:32But this is the analog to shouting at somebody and just
- 45:35screaming at them and trying to show that anger.
- 45:38And seeing how that kind of shook up the stalker also really
- 45:42got to me. But that episode was really hard
- 45:44because it happens every day. You know you meet the wrong
- 45:49person and it spirals out of control before you know it.
- 45:52That's it. So.
- 45:53Yeah, this episode was definitely brutal.
- 45:55It was episode 3 and I can't remember where where I heard
- 46:01this, but stalking is a murder in slow motion, yes.
- 46:07I've. Heard and this was exactly that,
- 46:09right? This guy inserted himself into
- 46:12her life and was clearly obsessed with her.
- 46:14She wanted nothing to do with him.
- 46:17And there is a small moment where you see in a flashback, he
- 46:21shows up at her apartment. He's banging on the door.
- 46:23Let me in. Let me in, let me in.
- 46:25The cops get called and he lies his way out of the situation
- 46:30saying, oh, look, we're, we're lovers, Like we're just having a
- 46:33little spat or whatever. And the cops leave.
- 46:37They leave him there on her front door.
- 46:39No more questions, no more they're like oh OK, bye like
- 46:43which is fascinating to me because it it really something I
- 46:47love about K dramas is it reminds you there is no utopia.
- 46:51It seems like people are alike all over.
- 46:53Nobody listens to women with stuff like this.
- 46:55And it's it's weird because it's like, how do you even explain
- 46:59that? Like, oh, yeah, we showed up.
- 47:00But he said it was just a fight they were having.
- 47:02It's like that's a domestic disturbance.
- 47:04There's people screaming loud enough to wake neighbors and all
- 47:07that. Like, what do you mean you just
- 47:08leave? Like I don't it's.
- 47:11Troublesome. It's madding and obviously it
- 47:14ended with her losing her life. And for nothing completely.
- 47:18Avoidable. And we don't know.
- 47:20They don't tell us. Oh, she took out a restraining
- 47:21order on him. She did all this or whatever,
- 47:24but it shouldn't have to get that far.
- 47:28You know what I'm saying? Yeah.
- 47:31It shouldn't have to get that far.
- 47:32There was plenty of times to stop it.
- 47:34I do like in that episode that the uncle will see he's going on
- 47:38his run, like just training, and he sees this woman getting
- 47:41thrown to the floor and that Herman is just like, you know,
- 47:46degrading her, making her feel terrible, just abusing her in
- 47:49general. And he just runs past.
- 47:51Like, you know what? That's none of my business.
- 47:53But after that situation and realizing, oh, I can step in and
- 47:56do something. I can help someone.
- 47:58We understand why later because the first time he intervened for
- 48:03this kid who was getting beaten up by all these bullies, he took
- 48:07them on as a brother and all this.
- 48:08So, you know, of course he would be hesitant to try to step into
- 48:12another situation again. But I think that was a really
- 48:15cool moment for him because he's like, no, I, I have to do
- 48:18something about because he sees them fighting again.
- 48:20Beats the shit out of the dude. Yeah.
- 48:22Yeah, it emboldened him to do something about it.
- 48:25It's. A very pivotal episode.
- 48:27Yeah, it's. Super pivotal.
- 48:28Also you learn, I'm not sure if it's now or later but you do see
- 48:33in flashback form his childhood and how he did come from an
- 48:37abusive household where his father was a piss poor drunk and
- 48:40was constantly beating up on their mother and beating up on
- 48:43him too. That was gut run as a child
- 48:46screaming like just kill me and he's like I'll never give you
- 48:48what you want. I was like what the fuck?
- 48:51Oh my God. So I can understand from his
- 48:55point of view how he's like, I just don't want to get involved.
- 48:57Like this is more trouble than it's worth to insert myself into
- 49:01somebody else's story. And I feel like that is also a
- 49:03very pervasive Korean thought is like, mind your business.
- 49:08That's not my business. That's not my household.
- 49:10That has nothing to do with me. Yeah, it's and it's kind of like
- 49:14and. That's not really an American.
- 49:16That's not really an American ideal.
- 49:18I would say, no, it isn't. And I would like to make a call
- 49:20back to this, to the Squid Game episode that we had where this
- 49:25dude comes with all this food and he's mocking all these
- 49:27people and he starts like crow hopping on top of all the food
- 49:30and everything. And I think I mentioned like, if
- 49:32that happened in Washington Square Park or anywhere, that
- 49:35guy would have gotten his shit rocked so hard, so fast.
- 49:40But I don't see that in these Korean dramas.
- 49:42I'm not going to say that that's a direct reflection of their
- 49:44society. I don't know, but I do something
- 49:47that always throws me about all these Korean dramas.
- 49:49Someone's having a heart attack and collapsing to the ground.
- 49:52Someone's just, and people just walk by.
- 49:53Like it has nothing to do with me.
- 49:55Like everyone just walks by and it's weird.
- 49:58It's so weird and frustrating to watch like, like, help them up.
- 50:03They're on the floor like. Extended bystander effect.
- 50:08Yeah, it's weird, but. Instead of the bystander effect
- 50:10is, oh, somebody else will handle it.
- 50:12There's surely somebody else will come and help this person
- 50:14or take care of the situation. Call 911, whatever it is.
- 50:18I feel like in Korea, the bystander effect is no one's
- 50:21going to do anything about this, Why bother?
- 50:23Yeah, I hate it. It's weird.
- 50:28So that's. That's the episode that really
- 50:30stood out to me the most. That's the episode that we get
- 50:33so many different angles you see you go to expressing anger, not
- 50:36at himself or not in the form of frustration.
- 50:39So that was really cool. Seeing the uncle's character
- 50:41kind of grow past that bystander effect was also really nice.
- 50:46The did you notice something I wrote this down there was did
- 50:51you notice how many women in power there were in this show?
- 50:54Like, did that stand out to you at all?
- 50:55Like no. But ask me about it.
- 50:58Yeah, so there's like a lot of women in power here.
- 51:00Like you got the ringleader of the underground Fight Club, you
- 51:04have the prosecutor of this case, the main detective of this
- 51:08case, you have what was the name of this woman?
- 51:12We meet her in the episode where, Oh my God, the old man.
- 51:16Oh my God, yes, the the social worker.
- 51:20Yeah, we have so many women at the like.
- 51:23A lot of the major characters were women.
- 51:26That really stood out to me because that's not really
- 51:28common. I don't have anything to
- 51:30elaborate on that. I just found it pretty
- 51:31interesting. Yeah, I agree that there are a
- 51:35lot of female characters in this show that are movers and
- 51:39shakers, you know? Yeah.
- 51:42That's the best way to they're they're leaving an impact.
- 51:44And she recognizes specifically the prosecutors and detective,
- 51:48Detective, rather, she recognizes Godot's talent right
- 51:51away, doesn't make a big deal of it, but decides to kind of keep
- 51:55an eye on him. So love that.
- 51:58And that payoff is great, too. So yeah.
- 52:00You mentioned the social worker though that is played by Suyong
- 52:04from SNSD slash Girls' Generation.
- 52:07Oh yeah dude. Yeah.
- 52:11And that episode is one that really convicts you.
- 52:17Whether you agree or not, it's going to convict you in some
- 52:19way, shape or form. The story of the old man janitor
- 52:23who calls move to heaven trauma cleaning for himself and his
- 52:27wife who was in a long term care facility, but he checks her out
- 52:31and they commit suicide together.
- 52:36There's a lot. There's just a lot here.
- 52:37I mean, there's a lot in every single one of these episodes.
- 52:39But this one particular we talked about dignity in the non
- 52:44spoiler section. And I think that as we get older
- 52:48and, you know, the aging population as people get ill,
- 52:53there's a loss of dignity when it comes to long term care, when
- 52:57it comes to paying for long term care.
- 53:01And dying in some way, shape or form on your terms is really
- 53:06difficult to do. Absolutely.
- 53:09You're at, I mean, you're beholden to so many things.
- 53:12What your family wants, what the doctors want, what you know, and
- 53:16it's and especially at their age, it's like, what are we
- 53:19going to do? You know, like, how long is this
- 53:21going to go? Yeah, it was a very challenging
- 53:24episode it. Is challenging because they
- 53:26basically euthanize themselves. Yeah, they euthanize themselves.
- 53:30This has been pretty controversial for a while, yeah.
- 53:32Absolutely. Yeah.
- 53:33And the uncle is super black and white about it.
- 53:36He refuses to clean the rooftop apartment.
- 53:40He says he thinks it's cowardly and cruel to commit suicide.
- 53:43It's tantamount to murdering his wife, his Good Wife.
- 53:48There's no way to know if she wanted to die alongside of him.
- 53:52And he says they're going to hell.
- 53:54Like, he goes so far as to say, oh, they're going to hell.
- 53:56Guru is like, hey, like, we don't talk about that kind of
- 53:59shit around here. Yeah.
- 54:00Like immediately, like puts a stop to that because that's
- 54:03what's interesting about that, right?
- 54:05Okay, sure. I work in an underground Fight
- 54:08Club and yeah, I don't treat everybody the best.
- 54:11And sure, like, I'll see a woman getting beat within an inch of
- 54:14her life, but you know what I'm not going to do?
- 54:16I am not going to abide suicide because it's disgusting.
- 54:20And it's it's those very hypercritical, these very
- 54:25hypocritical and hypercritical moments of just like, oh, that's
- 54:28where your morality shows up to extrapolate all sorts of
- 54:33judgement from a situation you can impossibly understand.
- 54:36That's where I draw the line. And I think that that's this
- 54:40show is so well written because he would be the kind of dude to
- 54:44do that. Right.
- 54:45Yeah. Like to look at it and be like,
- 54:46oh, well, and then there's like a fear in there too.
- 54:48Like, I'm not going to go in there to clean up.
- 54:50Yeah. Like, he already wasn't that
- 54:52helpful to begin with, but he was like, I'm not going to go in
- 54:54there to clean up. That place is cursed.
- 54:56They took their lives. They're ungrateful.
- 54:57They're this. And it's like, oh, OK, right.
- 55:00You know, maybe you could help other people.
- 55:02Maybe you could find other ways to be, you know, to stand on
- 55:05principle of morality. But and we see that all the time
- 55:09that's you do. So, you know, in it's Sweden,
- 55:12right? I think it's Sweden.
- 55:14They've had a program for a while and you it takes months to
- 55:17get approved or whatever, but you can euthanize yourself.
- 55:20It's a very controversial process.
- 55:22This woman shared her story about it and everything, and
- 55:25it's controversial, but it always kind of fits into this
- 55:29episodes kind of narrative, you know, where is the line and how
- 55:34much choice do you actually have?
- 55:36Yeah, it's just yeah, in. This case, the old man had
- 55:39terminal pancreatic cancer. The infirmed wife had been
- 55:43basically bedridden for presumably years and was in this
- 55:49facility, was not living with him, needed 24/7 care, and she
- 55:54had been saving her sleeping pills for suicide and was trying
- 55:58to convince her husband to join her.
- 56:01She's like, let's go together. And once he gets that terminal
- 56:04diagnosis, he's like, I'm going to make your wish come true.
- 56:07He says fine, like let's do it, let's go together.
- 56:10Checks her out of the hospital when they go home and with
- 56:14pancreatic cancer, forget it. Like you only find out that you
- 56:17have it when it's too late. Like that's just a fact.
- 56:21The. Old Man was played by Zhong Dong
- 56:24Huang who is a prolific actor. He has been in things like When
- 56:29the Phone rings, Hotel Deluna and he was the dad in the airs.
- 56:33And then the old woman was played by Kanye Shim.
- 56:37Funny you brought up Squid Game. She is the season 2 mom and
- 56:40Squid Game player 149. And she's also been in a bunch
- 56:44of K dramas like A Virtuous Business and Tell Me That You
- 56:47Love Me. She actually got her starting K
- 56:49dramas a little later than Zhengdong Huang, but also a very
- 56:54well known face. I love this episode because
- 56:59there's a lot that's like, not really said.
- 57:01It's kind of cultural. They're living in a rooftop
- 57:04apartment and the rooftop apartments in Korea are cheaper.
- 57:09They're less desirable because they're so high up.
- 57:11There's no elevator, less and less installation.
- 57:14They're prone to extreme heat in the summer, extreme cold in the
- 57:17winter. It's almost like a temporary
- 57:19structure up there. It's not private because the
- 57:21rooftop is kind of like a backyard for everybody in the
- 57:24building. So everybody can come up to the
- 57:26rooftop and right outside your door, and it's almost a surefire
- 57:32sign that someone is living poorly.
- 57:35You know, it's kind of impoverished.
- 57:37It's like those maid chambers in Paris where you have that like,
- 57:41have you heard that? Like you know, the top of those
- 57:43buildings, they rent them out legally, illegally, but it's
- 57:46like an attic where the maid used to live or whatever.
- 57:50Like maybe 200 square meter apartment maybe super tiny
- 57:55window that looks out, same thing.
- 57:58They don't have AC anyway but it's burning hot.
- 58:00No insulation, no bathroom, no nothing.
- 58:02It's just you're like a border in that own room so not a good
- 58:06sign. You're either a student or
- 58:07you're broke. Yeah, exactly.
- 58:09So they're living up there, this old couple or the old man.
- 58:14And it's not until the uncle comes in and finds this tiny
- 58:18door leading to a beautiful greenhouse full of thriving
- 58:23flowers and plants. That too young, the social
- 58:28worker says. Does this look like something
- 58:29made by an evil man who killed his Good Wife?
- 58:31And. That's no he had such an
- 58:33appreciation for life. His whole bit with the flowers
- 58:37was amazing there. Was a lot of language of flowers
- 58:39in this episode he. Knew all the meanings of the
- 58:41flowers. He had written them all down.
- 58:43It was beautiful. It was so cool.
- 58:46It was, it was very beautiful. And a lot of those flowers that
- 58:49he grew himself or saved himself from people's garbage piles and
- 58:55things like that, they are the flowers that adorn their funeral
- 59:00and it's beautiful. It's just really sad.
- 59:04It's so moving I. Know I love the whole thing and
- 59:07even the language of flowers comes back towards the end of
- 59:10the episode when the social worker sends back pink dahlias
- 59:14to the uncle. The meaning of those are happy
- 59:18to know about your heart. That was so cute.
- 59:24Yeah. I love that.
- 59:25The moment where Gary tries to give the flowers back.
- 59:29I also that that was something that I really loved about this
- 59:32show is that he doesn't always get it right and he doesn't
- 59:34always get his way. So Guru keeps trying to do what
- 59:39he thought was right. He gets all these flowers, tries
- 59:42to give it back to the residents.
- 59:43He's like, and they're like, what the hell do I want that
- 59:45for? And he's dead.
- 59:46Are you trying to bring me a curse?
- 59:48Like what is this? And of course the only person
- 59:50who accepted it was the little girl which that was earth
- 59:53shattering, saving up her pocket money to buy him and and like an
- 59:57air con unit for his. Yeah.
- 1:00:00Like little office. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:03It was so sad and but he didn't like good doesn't always get
- 1:00:07what he wants and that's a really.
- 1:00:10He doesn't see how people would perceive it.
- 1:00:14Right, 'cause some. OK, what about the episode with
- 1:00:19the son and the mom? The mother who has dementia?
- 1:00:21Oh. Dude, Oh dude, that.
- 1:00:23One was gut. That's a that's even earlier
- 1:00:27that one I. Think that was the first one
- 1:00:29that they did without his dad, yeah.
- 1:00:31I think it's episode 2 where this episode the uncle moves in
- 1:00:36and then the old lady with dementia dies alone and there's
- 1:00:39a lot of maggots and bodily fluid on the floor and the money
- 1:00:44grubbing son and daughter-in-law are like throw everything out.
- 1:00:48We just want whatever money or bank book is in there.
- 1:00:52And he has to wash all that bodily like excretion, Yeah.
- 1:00:57It's. And he just does it because he's
- 1:00:59like, well, that's my job. So sure, he's like.
- 1:01:01Yeah, we can clean the money with chemicals and they're like,
- 1:01:04well, do it. I mean they're just so rude to
- 1:01:06him right off RIP. I actually have a note here.
- 1:01:12I I wrote this a couple of times and that was the first time I
- 1:01:15wrote it and I was like wow, everyone this trio encounters is
- 1:01:18collectively such a piece of shit.
- 1:01:20They are. And then later, by episode 6, I
- 1:01:24was like, why is everybody in this universe such a piece of
- 1:01:27shit? Like, it's, they're so horrible.
- 1:01:31They're so horrible. And they take him for granted.
- 1:01:35They take his work for granted. But there's a good kind of
- 1:01:38gotcha moment with that, right? She has dementia.
- 1:01:42She's walking around. And this whole time she was
- 1:01:44trying to save up. All she could think about was
- 1:01:46her son. That's it.
- 1:01:48We don't know what led them there.
- 1:01:50We don't know what led them to being estranged or anything.
- 1:01:53He always looked like a brat, even in like the flashback
- 1:01:56sequences. But this woman, she still had
- 1:02:00her own life. And even though she did the same
- 1:02:02thing every day, her mind never left the same thing.
- 1:02:05He finally, finally gives him the box and he's like, I don't
- 1:02:08want anything to this. You can't trick me into like
- 1:02:11confronting this situation, opens it and finds this nice
- 1:02:14little like nighty or like yes. This is thermal underwear, so I
- 1:02:18can explain this a little bit. So it's a tradition.
- 1:02:21It's an old tradition for sons and daughters to give red long
- 1:02:24underwear to their parents as a symbolic gift when they received
- 1:02:28their first monthly salary. Since houses were not heated in
- 1:02:32the past, long Johns were the best present for offering warmth
- 1:02:35and coziness. So it is an old Korean
- 1:02:37tradition. This happened in the 80s when
- 1:02:40the son got his first paycheck and he did give his mother, you
- 1:02:43know, red long Johns, red thermal.
- 1:02:47Underwear, she never used them. She was just so proud of the
- 1:02:50fact that her son actually got a job and he write, she writes on
- 1:02:53the and it was in 1988. 88, yeah.
- 1:02:56So everybody was struggling, You know, that's that ominous Korean
- 1:02:59year. And she's like, my son got his
- 1:03:02first job and the date that she received it.
- 1:03:04And I'm like, oh, I'm going to throw up.
- 1:03:07Like I'm so I'm so set like and it's she never stopped thinking
- 1:03:12about him. That's he's all she really cared
- 1:03:15about. So he's like, she was like, I'm
- 1:03:17going to get you a suit. I'm going to buy you a suit.
- 1:03:20And it becomes like her route every day.
- 1:03:22And it's just so gut wrenching. My God.
- 1:03:26You see all these pictures that she has.
- 1:03:27That one hit me the hardest because it's like when they're
- 1:03:30packing up her place, you see all of the stuff that she owns
- 1:03:34all these pictures, whatever. And you see her in these
- 1:03:36pictures, and it's like, I don't know what she envisioned for her
- 1:03:39life or who she wanted to be when she was an adult, but it
- 1:03:42definitely wasn't what she ended up as.
- 1:03:44Yeah, it's just so beautiful but also so sad.
- 1:03:47And you can't run away from your feelings, right?
- 1:03:49Because there's gonna be a kid with a yellow box who's gonna
- 1:03:53shove it onto you. And that's it.
- 1:03:55Like, you can run as far as you want.
- 1:03:57You can collect all the money. You're gonna confront it.
- 1:04:00So yeah, that. Was a a really moving episode
- 1:04:03and I agree that the dementia grandma with the thermal under
- 1:04:09Oh my God. Oh my shit, me out of here.
- 1:04:13Oh my. Shayla What did she think of the
- 1:04:18Doctor Who got sliced in the neck by a crazed patient and
- 1:04:23died in the Ed? But he was actually a closeted
- 1:04:27homosexual and his parents never accepted him and completely shut
- 1:04:33down his relationship with his cellist lover.
- 1:04:38It's amazing how you can be everything your parents want you
- 1:04:43to be, and if you do one thing that's out of line and they're
- 1:04:46not the right person, nothing you do will ever matter.
- 1:04:50So. I just like, closed my eyes for
- 1:04:54a second because like that was so spot on.
- 1:04:57He's like, like, he's a, he's a doctor, right?
- 1:05:00He's an accomplished, like, what else could he possibly owe you?
- 1:05:04You know what I mean? That story was really gut
- 1:05:07wrenching because it's another one.
- 1:05:09Like I was watching him like wow on Pride month, but then I
- 1:05:11realized it was like 4. Like the show's like 4 years
- 1:05:14old. The show.
- 1:05:15'S four years old, yeah, but. I thought that that was a really
- 1:05:18sad episode. It was just really terrible.
- 1:05:21But it also, it's not about, I want to word this really
- 1:05:24carefully because I don't want it to come off as like shifting
- 1:05:26responsibility or anything. But it's amazing.
- 1:05:29What keeps you tied down, right? He could have chosen himself.
- 1:05:33You know how final death is. Makes you realize it's like, OK,
- 1:05:38all these rules exist. All these expectations for me
- 1:05:40exist. How I live for myself exists.
- 1:05:43Until the 2nd I died. Then it was all for nothing
- 1:05:46because I could have just gone to San Francisco.
- 1:05:48I wouldn't have died. Also, it's always sad.
- 1:05:52It's always the wrong person to get killed, isn't it?
- 1:05:54That whole thing was just terrible.
- 1:05:56Wait, who should have died instead?
- 1:05:58Well. The craze, not him.
- 1:06:01The crazed. The crazed, the.
- 1:06:02OK, Yeah. Who's like, give me drugs?
- 1:06:05Give me drugs and holds a scalpel to a woman's neck like
- 1:06:08no one was getting out of that one alive but and then seeing
- 1:06:11his parents more his dad than anything like he's.
- 1:06:14Like a war dog. He looks like a clown.
- 1:06:17He's wearing like it's like he has all these ribbons and stuff,
- 1:06:20like he, he's like in full military regardless of burning
- 1:06:23all his son's things. That's like, you look so
- 1:06:26ridiculous, the fact. That they didn't.
- 1:06:27They were. They're the parents, Yeah.
- 1:06:30And he lived, I think, in their house.
- 1:06:35That's a question all about his he.
- 1:06:36Lived with them I think is how I interpreted it.
- 1:06:40And they did not clean out his room.
- 1:06:43They still hired out. I think it signals that they
- 1:06:47really didn't love him. They just expected things from
- 1:06:49the mom loved him. You could see grief, but there's
- 1:06:51a difference between the two. I see this a lot with a lot of
- 1:06:55parents, especially of queer children, gay children, any
- 1:06:58across the board or even outside of that through the lens of
- 1:07:02like, this is what we want you to do for a living.
- 1:07:04This is who you're being raised to be.
- 1:07:05The very Rory's going to Harvard thing, You know what I mean?
- 1:07:09Like you drill something onto someone for so long and the
- 1:07:12second they fall short of your expectations, that's not love
- 1:07:15anymore. You created a person, you're
- 1:07:18building up a person and no matter what they do, they could
- 1:07:21fall in line with everything you want.
- 1:07:22It's not going to be good enough because it's not going to be
- 1:07:24what you envisioned. That's not love, that's an
- 1:07:27expectation. That's a hope.
- 1:07:28That's an investment at best. In these parents mind, the
- 1:07:32mother showed some semblance of regret.
- 1:07:34She's like, you know, if we would have just let him go, he
- 1:07:37wouldn't even be dead. And the father refuses.
- 1:07:39He's like, well, it doesn't matter.
- 1:07:40It's better this way because I would have never accepted that
- 1:07:43and he wouldn't live right. The shame of it.
- 1:07:45Right, like at that point your priorities are your military
- 1:07:50legacy, what your war dog friends think.
- 1:07:53The thought of being embarrassed, the fear of maybe
- 1:07:56being embarrassed or humiliated or like you fell short
- 1:07:59supersedes anything good your son will ever do.
- 1:08:02There was never, he was never going to win anything with his
- 1:08:04parents, so he may as well firebounded and moved to San
- 1:08:07Francisco, I mean. The doctor was played by Kwan
- 1:08:11Suhyon who is most recently from Buried Hearts.
- 1:08:14He was in Cafe Minandong Record of Youth Abyss and 100 Million
- 1:08:21Stars falling from the Sky, AKA The Smile Has Left Your Eyes,
- 1:08:25which we have covered on the podcast feed.
- 1:08:29Yeah, I thought this was another really difficult episode.
- 1:08:32I don't know. Hearing Christmas music anytime
- 1:08:35outside of Christmas always brings a little tear to my eyes.
- 1:08:38So that Christmas song on a quartet of cellos?
- 1:08:43Come on, I it. Was beautiful, like it was like,
- 1:08:46Oh my God, and it was that should have been its own romance
- 1:08:49thing. Like it was a good romance and
- 1:08:53they were both very we. Missed out on a good BE elder.
- 1:08:55Yeah, that would have been a really good BL and it could have
- 1:08:58ended the same way. Maybe that'll be the spin off
- 1:09:00like we'll just. Ends in tragedy no matter what.
- 1:09:04I mean, don't they always? OK, so I'm going to move to the
- 1:09:08end of that episode. Guddu says He envies Mr. Ian,
- 1:09:12who is the cellist, because he got to hear from the doctor and
- 1:09:16receive this present. There must have been so many
- 1:09:20things that his dad wanted to tell him, but he never heard it,
- 1:09:23never got the chance. He swears up and down that his
- 1:09:28dad was not ashamed of him because every time he faced
- 1:09:31obstacles, every time he got bullied or he got kicked out of
- 1:09:34school because he was talking too much, he wouldn't shut up in
- 1:09:37school so they just he could not attend regular school.
- 1:09:40His father said not to worry, that it wasn't his fault.
- 1:09:44God. That was so gut wrenching.
- 1:09:46And that is such a simplistic but honest and innocent way to
- 1:09:51look at, you know, it's almost evidence based love.
- 1:09:56Yeah, yeah. It's like, well, that can't
- 1:09:58possibly be true because so the idea that he couldn't wrap his
- 1:10:02head around why this guy's dad just didn't love him or wouldn't
- 1:10:06accept him, he's like, I don't get it, right?
- 1:10:09And he's envious of the cellist because he got that closure.
- 1:10:15He got that final word from the doctor.
- 1:10:19And he was like, I never got that.
- 1:10:20I know that my dad had something to tell me, had more to say,
- 1:10:24more to give me. And he didn't get that chance.
- 1:10:28And like, I don't, I don't want to get emotional on the podcast,
- 1:10:33but like we all have those moments in our lives where we're
- 1:10:36like, there's things left unsaid and I can't, I can't have those
- 1:10:41words. No, you have to.
- 1:10:46It's funny because I was just having a conversation about this
- 1:10:48this morning. It gets to a point where it's
- 1:10:49like if you remember the things that were most important that
- 1:10:53you heard from someone before you lost them and you grow with
- 1:10:56them, they change shape. So this is like really whatever,
- 1:11:01but just hear me out. Like you'll take something that
- 1:11:04you hear and not only will it take shape, but you can kind of
- 1:11:08see it evolve. Everything you remember from
- 1:11:11someone that you lost. Good advice, bad advice, things
- 1:11:13you agree with, things that you don't.
- 1:11:15As you grow older and your perspective changes and it
- 1:11:17shifts and it morphs into something else, you can see
- 1:11:21everything you remember from them evolve with them.
- 1:11:25So that does live with you, but only if you choose to see it
- 1:11:28that way. But especially at the beginning,
- 1:11:31you're like, wow, I'm never going to hear anything new
- 1:11:34again. And I'm sure there was so much
- 1:11:36left on set. And it's just, how do you live
- 1:11:39with that? But Guru finds a way to do it,
- 1:11:42Yeah, in his own way. So it worked out for him, sort
- 1:11:46of. Stop it.
- 1:11:49And also he found the phone. Yes, he stop it.
- 1:11:52So one thing before we get to the phone in the final like
- 1:11:55couple of episodes is in episode 7, the uncle finds his older
- 1:12:01brother's business card, the move to Heaven business card in
- 1:12:05with Udaic's medical files. And he was diagnosed with
- 1:12:10chronic traumatic encephalopathy, CTE.
- 1:12:14And this is the biggest bullshit of the show actually, is that
- 1:12:18the only definitive diagnosis can occur during an autopsy.
- 1:12:23So the fact that he had a whole like medical diagnosis, he was
- 1:12:27printing out Google Sheets on CTE and the symptoms of CTE,
- 1:12:33that would never happen. You know, you don't know if you
- 1:12:36have CT until it's basically too late, until you're dead and they
- 1:12:40can crack open your brain and be like, oh shit, he or she was
- 1:12:43suffering from CTE. Symptoms of CTE occur in four
- 1:12:46stages, generally appear 8 to 10 years after an individual
- 1:12:50experiences repetitive mild traumatic brain injuries.
- 1:12:53I'm not sure if 8 to 10 years had even lapsed between when
- 1:12:58they meet and when he dies. Yeah, that's in it.
- 1:13:03It it just didn't track. I was like, oh, OK, because.
- 1:13:06We get a 10 years prior flashback when they meet, but
- 1:13:10that doesn't mean 10 years later, like in the present day,
- 1:13:13he had just died or he had just succumbed to his injury.
- 1:13:18Yeah, just doesn't it? Was like, OK, so it's only been
- 1:13:21several years, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:13:24All right, between that and oh, he fell in a coma after this,
- 1:13:27the Fight Club I. Mean, I guess they could have at
- 1:13:29least gone for like, oh, he has a TBI, you know what I mean?
- 1:13:33Like, yeah, or they could have gone in another way.
- 1:13:35But they don't have to make stuff up either, yeah.
- 1:13:37Like the CTE diagnosis that cannot be made in a living
- 1:13:40individual. There's no definitive test to
- 1:13:43prove the existence in a living person.
- 1:13:44So I'm sorry, like that part was not.
- 1:13:48They're usually good with stuff like that in Korean dramas
- 1:13:51'cause they're so medical heavy all the time.
- 1:13:53So I wonder why they chose to take creative liberty with that
- 1:13:57when they could have just gone with a TBI.
- 1:14:00Yeah, like, I don't get it speaking.
- 1:14:02Of the K drama of it all, the bookie bitch kidnaps Gudu in
- 1:14:07episode 8 just but then lets him go very easily.
- 1:14:13She's like, don't, don't make me stoop so low as to kill a kid.
- 1:14:16Like that's what she had said. She's like, don't make me do
- 1:14:19that. But that's where the show
- 1:14:22started getting a bit. Something that I liked about the
- 1:14:24show is it got kind of Boxcar Children, you know, like the
- 1:14:28three. It got very Hardy Boys for a
- 1:14:31second there. So when they kidnap him and he's
- 1:14:35just playing cards cuz I guess you know Rain Man but.
- 1:14:39I was thinking that, too. I was like, this is so Rain Man.
- 1:14:42He's just playing cards with the bodyguards.
- 1:14:45Yeah. OK, so wait, I just want to know
- 1:14:48who tipped off it was good too, right?
- 1:14:50Or who tipped off the detective about the underground fight?
- 1:14:55Yeah, it was good too. It was.
- 1:14:56Good too, right? Yeah.
- 1:14:57OK, Cool, cool, cool. OK, we have to talk about the
- 1:15:00first time I lost my shit in this show.
- 1:15:03Like truly lost my shit was the June 29th birthday ritual.
- 1:15:10On the same day every year, Guru goes out with his father and
- 1:15:14this is the first year that he went out by himself to have a
- 1:15:16picnic, quote UN quote with his dad.
- 1:15:19It's the amusement park, chicken restaurant, pizza, Chinese.
- 1:15:22And then they go to Sue in train station and do like a little
- 1:15:26like prayer and they put a little smooth river rock and do
- 1:15:31a like a Little River rock tower right by the train station.
- 1:15:35And that is when the uncle realizes that it's for him.
- 1:15:41It's on his birthday. And he's pissed and he's because
- 1:15:45he's like, great. Like, so you treat me like I'm
- 1:15:48dead, but you abandoned me. And then we find out this
- 1:15:52department store collapse, which apparently is a real thing
- 1:15:55that's. Absolutely true.
- 1:15:56That's 100%. It's like the biggest loss of
- 1:15:59casualties in a time of non war. And I was like, what?
- 1:16:02Because I saw the footage of this building collapsing and it
- 1:16:05was like, oh, it's real. It's totally real horrible,
- 1:16:09yeah. June 29th, 1995, Sampung
- 1:16:11Department Store in Sochodong, Seoul suddenly collapsed due to
- 1:16:15structural failure, which resulted in over 1000
- 1:16:18casualties, employees and guests.
- 1:16:21The 5th floor showed signs of collapse in the morning of a
- 1:16:23disaster. They ignored it and decided to
- 1:16:25stay open while fixing the problems.
- 1:16:26At 5:52 PM, the entire building collapsed in 20 seconds, making
- 1:16:31a pillar of dust. The damage estimates were 270
- 1:16:34billion won. A total of casualties included
- 1:16:38501 deaths, 6 disappearances and 937 injured.
- 1:16:43It was the biggest casualties since the Korean War.
- 1:16:46And this is all direct from Guru's mouth.
- 1:16:49It's true. And it's real and it's, I think
- 1:16:53it's the notion of like this, this was a part that gave me a
- 1:16:56tremendous amount of relief because the actor especially who
- 1:17:01plays good his father, he is like kindness humanized.
- 1:17:06Yeah, he has, like, whatever. He just looks very, very kind
- 1:17:12and very nice. So I was like, I really hope
- 1:17:14they don't pull A twist. Or I was like, oh, he just left
- 1:17:17them there to rot in this train station.
- 1:17:20So I was like, oh, thank God. Yeah.
- 1:17:21We did get an Instagram question that says what if the older
- 1:17:26brother actually did abandoned Sangu.
- 1:17:30I don't see it. So he was time and place is so
- 1:17:34important for this and also looking at their society.
- 1:17:38So it's 1980 what this happened 9595 ain't no social media.
- 1:17:45Ain't no none of that. OK.
- 1:17:47Like these are two runaways who are trying to find a way to live
- 1:17:52a new life without being found to begin with.
- 1:17:54Nobody knows that that kid is there.
- 1:17:56The older brother is older. He's not that much older.
- 1:17:59He's. Still in school?
- 1:17:59He's still in high school. Right.
- 1:18:01So the whole idea is pretty far far fetched, but they're doing
- 1:18:05what they think they have to do to survive to begin with.
- 1:18:08He gets into the department store.
- 1:18:10He buys the shoes that his brother wanted.
- 1:18:12Do you know how? Like, how long is it going to
- 1:18:14take to clean up that mess for him to regain consciousness?
- 1:18:18Yeah, they said. He was trapped for three days
- 1:18:21and then he was stuck in the hospital recovering.
- 1:18:24That's it. Like how is he ever going to
- 1:18:26find him again? Right.
- 1:18:28Yeah. The thing of that was they
- 1:18:29didn't want to be separated. The little boy was going to be,
- 1:18:33the uncle was going to be put in an orphanage.
- 1:18:37You know, that's like a, that's a bad look.
- 1:18:41There's a stereotype and a, a prevailing notion around
- 1:18:45orphans, right? In Korea.
- 1:18:48You don't know where they come from.
- 1:18:49There's a lot of mystery surrounding them.
- 1:18:51They could be anybody. They weren't raised right.
- 1:18:53You know, they didn't have parents or family to show them
- 1:18:56right from wrong. And so they could potentially
- 1:18:58turn out to be criminals. They could be murderers.
- 1:19:00You have no idea. So the brother was like, no, we
- 1:19:03can't be separated. I'll come and get you at the
- 1:19:05train station on your birthday. And it just never had this
- 1:19:09tragedy, had this very true tragedy happens.
- 1:19:11He gets stuck under a building. Yeah.
- 1:19:15And then he had to go to physical therapy and all this
- 1:19:17other. Yeah, he had.
- 1:19:18To completely get rehabilitated and it completely fractures
- 1:19:23their relationship. Yeah.
- 1:19:24Severs it completely we. See how they're treated.
- 1:19:27There's that episode with Matthew where he's looking for
- 1:19:30his mom, He is born, he's or he he's given up for an adoption.
- 1:19:35Nobody in Korea wants him so they ship them off to the US to
- 1:19:39go get adopted. Then they have no state status.
- 1:19:42It's a whole thing. So I don't buy the And also he
- 1:19:46bought all those Nikes anyway. He did make a concerted effort
- 1:19:49to try to find him, but I'm sure there's privacy laws around
- 1:19:53that. Like you can't.
- 1:19:54Even if a social worker or something saw that he was
- 1:19:56looking from, they can't. Just why?
- 1:19:57Would they give that information to a teenager?
- 1:20:00Yeah, and why would they give it to anyone knowing the situation
- 1:20:03this kid is coming out of? That could be somebody dangerous
- 1:20:06from his previous life. And then at this point, I, I
- 1:20:09wouldn't, I didn't buy it. And I'm glad that they didn't go
- 1:20:11in that direction. That was going to be really,
- 1:20:13really annoying. If they did, it wouldn't have
- 1:20:16fit. Uh huh.
- 1:20:17So especially with how we find out how the Father finds Gudu to
- 1:20:20begin with. Yeah.
- 1:20:23Oh, no. Stop.
- 1:20:25That if you have anything else, because if we're getting there,
- 1:20:29that was the episode that was just like.
- 1:20:31Well, I'll say so. I did break down when Sangu the
- 1:20:35uncle finds all the Nikes and he finds like the little the little
- 1:20:40baby Nike. I, I like lost it.
- 1:20:41It was. So sad.
- 1:20:42I was like and a. Little like that kind of was it.
- 1:20:46Then we get episode 9, which is when we get Matthew Green's
- 1:20:49story. The Korean American adoptee from
- 1:20:52New York got deported because he's undocumented.
- 1:20:54And that is a very real story, right?
- 1:20:58I remember Were you with me when we watched Blue Bayou.
- 1:21:00No, I wasn't. Oh damn, I thought you were.
- 1:21:03So the movie Blue Bayou is also about this very real thing, you
- 1:21:08know, this pervasive adoption story that is very painful for a
- 1:21:12lot of Koreans. And she's not the mother.
- 1:21:17And it's like the news broadcaster who feels very close
- 1:21:21to Matthew Green and, you know, stitched his name onto, like,
- 1:21:27the baby blouse and stuff like that before he left her house as
- 1:21:31a teenager. She does this beautiful
- 1:21:33broadcast in honor of him and it is all about this story, right
- 1:21:39we. Need to do better.
- 1:21:40The government over 60. Five years 200,000 Korean kids
- 1:21:42stand away for overseas adoption and how this is a great dishonor
- 1:21:48to Korea, which becomes known as the biggest baby exporter of the
- 1:21:5220th century. It's humiliating, it's.
- 1:21:54Humiliating and she calls the. Thing with choosing, like
- 1:21:58choosing where the morals show up, you can't just get rid of
- 1:22:01all these human beings just to hold up an image because then
- 1:22:04the image is worthless. It's crazy that that happens as
- 1:22:08often as it does. And that's how they've
- 1:22:09officially decided. I don't know if they still do it
- 1:22:11now. They do, I imagine right?
- 1:22:13Or. It's getting better, is my
- 1:22:16understanding of it. But there are still headlines of
- 1:22:21people saying, you know, it was the 80s, it was the 70s and, you
- 1:22:26know, my mom couldn't take care of me and she put me through the
- 1:22:29system and told them specifically that she was going
- 1:22:33to come back for me. She made every effort to build a
- 1:22:36home so that she could pick me up and Take Me Home.
- 1:22:38And when she went back for me, I was already adopted overseas.
- 1:22:42They just went like, sent me away.
- 1:22:44That's. Insane.
- 1:22:46It's. Been a great source of
- 1:22:49humiliation for Korea. It's only getting semi rectified
- 1:22:53now. That's a long time to hold on to
- 1:22:55something that draconian, but sure.
- 1:22:59So this was a very heartbreaking story.
- 1:23:03They're they're all heartbreaking stories.
- 1:23:04But episode 10, we're going to skip to episode 10, which is the
- 1:23:08finale. I was laughing that the uncle's
- 1:23:11fight name is Nightmare. And then the opponent's name, he
- 1:23:14was a Russian and his name was Hellraiser.
- 1:23:17And I was like, shoot, All right, OK, sure.
- 1:23:26I'll tell you. I at this point, this is the
- 1:23:29point in the show where I started crying and I couldn't
- 1:23:31stop. It was when Guddu comes into his
- 1:23:36dad's room and does the trauma cleaning.
- 1:23:39Trauma cleans his own dad's room, and he does his ritual
- 1:23:42speech that says, you know, my name is so and so I'm here for
- 1:23:45move to heaven. And I'm going to help you on
- 1:23:47your move to heaven. Yeah.
- 1:23:49Packs up all his stuff, his own dad.
- 1:23:51It's gut wrenching. I.
- 1:23:53Was a puddle. I was a puddle.
- 1:23:55Absolutely. Just it.
- 1:23:59It was just so sad. It was so.
- 1:24:01Sad but the. Final stage of the phone doesn't
- 1:24:03hit it. It is.
- 1:24:05And that's the scene that really got me was actually just before
- 1:24:09that when Gooder runs away and he goes to the aquarium back in
- 1:24:13Busan that like I fell apart completely because he doesn't
- 1:24:18understand what's going on directly.
- 1:24:21The freshness of my dad being because you forget very quickly.
- 1:24:25You start forgetting things very quickly.
- 1:24:28So when he's saying I can't hear his voice anymore, he's
- 1:24:31forgetting. And how familiar his dad's voice
- 1:24:34really was like it his he's starting to time is starting to
- 1:24:38pass and he's starting to forget.
- 1:24:40And when he starts panicking at the aquarium and his uncle shows
- 1:24:44up and he it's when he finally realizes because it's his
- 1:24:48version of what we all do with grief.
- 1:24:50You throw yourself into work, you throw yourself into your
- 1:24:52friendships. You get really busy, you get
- 1:24:54very determined. And he's finally having this
- 1:24:56moment of I'm never going to see my dad again.
- 1:24:59This is it. Like he, he's not going to be
- 1:25:01here to say good job. He's not going to be here for
- 1:25:03this. And that was so gut wrenching to
- 1:25:05me because because it's just like, oh, he's getting it now.
- 1:25:09It's finally hitting him now that all of these different
- 1:25:12things are either way, the adrenaline has dropped.
- 1:25:14He has to reconcile with this. But it's also such a beautiful
- 1:25:17moment because then he realizes, like, at least I have my uncle
- 1:25:20here and I want to have my uncle here.
- 1:25:22But it that part just destroyed me completely it.
- 1:25:26Destroyed me when he says I don't like this.
- 1:25:30Yes, he says. I don't like this.
- 1:25:32And I'm like, I just want to like pull him in for a hug, even
- 1:25:36though he doesn't like hugs, because who does, right?
- 1:25:40It's such a real global sentiment of like, I don't want
- 1:25:45to go through this. I don't like this look all this
- 1:25:48that. Shit.
- 1:25:50Sucks and he's going through it and he he has to confront it.
- 1:25:56He has to confront the reality. I love that he and when he's
- 1:26:00trauma cleaning the room and he's undoing the closet and he
- 1:26:03picks up his dad's clothes and he just like lifts it up to his
- 1:26:07face. He just like, breathes it in and
- 1:26:10I'm like, that's something that I wish we don't have that right,
- 1:26:13that capability to smell what the characters are smelling as
- 1:26:17we're watching media, right? Television shows or movies or
- 1:26:20whatever. But that is very real.
- 1:26:23Scent is such a powerful tool for memory.
- 1:26:27So is taste and all the senses. I'll tell you, one of the most
- 1:26:31visceral memories was a few years ago.
- 1:26:35My aunts used to make pumpkin bread every holiday season, like
- 1:26:39in Mass, and give out the loaves to all of their friends, you
- 1:26:44know, at work, at church, everywhere.
- 1:26:46And I remember going over to their house and just watching
- 1:26:49them, watching them with this assembly line of pumpkin bread
- 1:26:54and the way everything smelled and the way they looked.
- 1:26:56And it's just, like, transported.
- 1:26:59A few years ago, during the pandemic, I think, my mom bought
- 1:27:02some pumpkin bread just from the store, and I picked it up
- 1:27:06without thinking and took one bite.
- 1:27:10And the taste of it, it was like in a movie, like a montage of
- 1:27:15all of these memories, just like flashing through.
- 1:27:18And it was so intense. Like it just hit me right in my
- 1:27:23chest. All of the memories, the taste,
- 1:27:26the smell, like I was back in their house, you know, 1520
- 1:27:30years ago. And it completely gagged me.
- 1:27:34I took one bite and I couldn't even swallow it.
- 1:27:36I was just, like, frozen. And I remember my mom going,
- 1:27:39hey, how's the pumpkin bread? Does it taste good?
- 1:27:41And I was like, it's good. That's all I could manage was
- 1:27:45just, it's good. And it took me, like, several
- 1:27:49months to be like, hey, remember that pumpkin bread you bought,
- 1:27:51like, in November? Yeah, that like wrecked me
- 1:27:54because it took me back. And that's just one moment.
- 1:27:58I'm sure everyone has their own particular moment where they
- 1:28:01were walking through a Macy's and they smelled their
- 1:28:05grandmother's perfume or their, you know, something that they
- 1:28:08just. It makes them instantly
- 1:28:11remember, instantly nostalgic and freezes them.
- 1:28:16And it's, it's also the most innocuous things to like, it's
- 1:28:21the most innocuous silly things. Like I had a situation like that
- 1:28:26with Starbucks. Like, I was at a Starbucks of
- 1:28:29all places. Like, OK, I'm here doing my
- 1:28:30thing. And I hear the song.
- 1:28:33It wasn't Duran Duran. It was Eyes Without a Face by
- 1:28:37Billy Idol. And so I was like, OK, yeah,
- 1:28:40like, I'm just trying to keep it together because my mom always
- 1:28:43listened to literally nothing but 80s music.
- 1:28:45And then Duran Duran comes on and I'm like, OK.
- 1:28:49And then another song. It's the this is so stupid.
- 1:28:53I'm going to brace you for this because it's so stupid.
- 1:28:55You know that song I come from the land down on?
- 1:28:58Yes. That comes on and I start
- 1:29:01fucking sobbing. Yeah, with like a cold brew.
- 1:29:04And I'm like, Nah. And just like running.
- 1:29:06And so I was like, OK. And so watching that happen and
- 1:29:11just how he, It's also so symbolic, the way that he would
- 1:29:13never give his dad a hug because it really does hurt.
- 1:29:16The name I'm going to start crying.
- 1:29:18It hurts their nerves to just, you know, like it's very
- 1:29:21uncomfortable because it's so, you know, binding.
- 1:29:24So seeing him really embrace the shirt, like undid me.
- 1:29:28It's like, Oh my God, no, it's Oh my God, the sticker, the I
- 1:29:33love you sticker. Oh my God, Yep.
- 1:29:35So many little Yeah, I. Know, I know.
- 1:29:41But he seems well taken care of though, right?
- 1:29:43Like now. That's why I love that the uncle
- 1:29:45came around. He grew from it.
- 1:29:47Yeah, but that was brutal. It was it was and then the last
- 1:29:50part of the show that really, you know, this was the Niagara,
- 1:29:54like me in a barrel pushed over Niagara Falls was this moment it
- 1:29:59was He hugs the memorial trees, Yes, of his dad with the.
- 1:30:04Plaques. That was so.
- 1:30:07And then you hear in voice over, what did I always say to you?
- 1:30:10Although you can't see someone, it doesn't mean they're not with
- 1:30:13me. As long as you remember they are
- 1:30:15not gone. Oh.
- 1:30:16My God I hate it. I hate it and they.
- 1:30:19Made and they made me really love the dad so much yeah so
- 1:30:23like just the. Father Christmas level just.
- 1:30:26So like kind understanding person and then dad and I'm
- 1:30:29like, OK, wow. Like this sucks.
- 1:30:33Yeah, but it was beautiful. It was right.
- 1:30:35Like, I mean, the resolution is great.
- 1:30:38It has it has really funny moments.
- 1:30:41It was there a moment that actually like, you know, we've
- 1:30:43done the set, like we'll we'll be here all day.
- 1:30:45If we talk about what made us said.
- 1:30:47Was there anything that made you bust out laughing in this?
- 1:30:49OK, so when they go to the funeral for the old man and the
- 1:30:52old woman who euthanized themselves, the uncle goes and
- 1:30:58sees another funeral that's happening for some important
- 1:31:01director at some conglomerate. And there's tons of funeral
- 1:31:05wreaths, flower wreaths around. And he goes to steal one.
- 1:31:09And as soon as he turns around, Gudu is there and he's like
- 1:31:14thief. And he starts like pointing at
- 1:31:16him and screaming thief. That was historical to me.
- 1:31:20That was so funny. That took me out like, and he's
- 1:31:24like learning in real time, like the ends can justify the means
- 1:31:28sometimes, yet he's trying to learn to be a little more
- 1:31:30flexible. Yeah, that was such a fun, like
- 1:31:33moment. Just like they're not using it
- 1:31:35anyway. They have like 1000 of these.
- 1:31:37Like we need to bring something. I laughed when they go when the
- 1:31:43uncle first shows up to the house it was after like no you
- 1:31:46can't sleep in my daddy's room yes and honestly good like no
- 1:31:50you can't but like no you can eat on the floor in the living
- 1:31:55room by but when I. Don't know you.
- 1:32:00This cracked me up and kind of he's like, well, he's not using
- 1:32:04the room. He's like, it's my dad's room,
- 1:32:06It's my dad's room. You can't and you know, miss
- 1:32:08next door decides like she's there and she's like, you can't
- 1:32:11use the room no matter what. It's not going to happen.
- 1:32:14Well, where am I supposed to sleep?
- 1:32:15And they do that classic like rough cut joke and it there's a
- 1:32:19tent in the living room. The.
- 1:32:21Yes, the can you see? It slowly like unzipping, like
- 1:32:26the door falls and he's there with this really pissed look.
- 1:32:32I'll give you, I'll give you one last one.
- 1:32:34So when they go to the the cellist concert for the quartet
- 1:32:40next door is like, Oh yeah, you're not going to like this
- 1:32:42kind of music for sure. And was kind of like
- 1:32:45disrespecting uncle. Yeah.
- 1:32:48You cut too. They're actually in the concert.
- 1:32:51Home Girl is falling asleep in the cello quartet concert, while
- 1:32:55Uncle Sangu is wide awake, excited, clapping
- 1:32:59enthusiastically at the end of the song.
- 1:33:01Love that I. Loved it, I loved it.
- 1:33:05There's so many little charming moments throughout everything.
- 1:33:08Despite itself, there was so much humor in the show, and I
- 1:33:11loved it. Yeah.
- 1:33:12Wait. Was a quick little stray
- 1:33:15observation I had about that, though.
- 1:33:16Was that supposed to be like, a shocking twist?
- 1:33:19Like we know he was going to be with a guy from the beginning,
- 1:33:21right? And.
- 1:33:21No, I think that was supposed to be shocking.
- 1:33:24Was. That supposed to be?
- 1:33:24Oh yeah. Were you shocked?
- 1:33:26I mean, the first time I saw it, I was like, OK, not very
- 1:33:30shocked, but I totally understand how if you assume
- 1:33:34that it's going to be one of the three female cellist, how would
- 1:33:39be really shocking that it's the male cellist who's the lover?
- 1:33:44OK, I could see how they set that up.
- 1:33:46I thought that I was like projected from space though.
- 1:33:48I was like, OK, when are we going to find out that it was
- 1:33:51the guy? But.
- 1:33:52No, it's very obvious on the rewatch, but when I first
- 1:33:56watched it, I was like, OK, I mean, it's still I had a very
- 1:34:00muted reaction than if I was maybe Korean or up closer to
- 1:34:05that culture. That's.
- 1:34:06True. Yeah.
- 1:34:07OK yeah. Oh, I love the I love the
- 1:34:11diversity of the lives of the victims, too Oh yeah.
- 1:34:13Like I do like that we had a good young and old.
- 1:34:16We had a mix. We had a young guy trying to
- 1:34:18make it work. We didn't talk about that first
- 1:34:20one. The very, very first one were
- 1:34:22the kids. Oh, the.
- 1:34:23Workplace accident I have. To ask you, because you're way
- 1:34:26more in this, is it true hospitals close over there?
- 1:34:30Is that really a thing Like the hospitals closed tonight?
- 1:34:34I've heard about this as a rumor.
- 1:34:36I don't know but like. I know it's like that in Japan.
- 1:34:39Like in Japan there are like, of course they have an emergency
- 1:34:42service if it's like very life or death, but apparently they
- 1:34:46close. So even though his leg was all
- 1:34:48like. Mangled, you know.
- 1:34:49Crunched in and mangled. He couldn't go to a doctor.
- 1:34:53Is that I know this is so. Is that a thing?
- 1:34:56So I think that one had more to do with not I don't think it was
- 1:35:02necessarily that the hospital was closed for the night.
- 1:35:05I think it was also the fact that they were pressuring him
- 1:35:07not to get any emergency service on the on the so they.
- 1:35:12Didn't have to, yeah. They were like, you didn't get,
- 1:35:16you know, they were pressuring him and kind of gaslighting him
- 1:35:19into not getting help. Got it.
- 1:35:21OK, trying to silence him and claim that the company holds no
- 1:35:25liability, even though there's a ton of evidence on his phone and
- 1:35:29in the text messages exchange that this was clearly, you know,
- 1:35:33coercion on the part of the company.
- 1:35:35Like come into work, fix this thing after hours.
- 1:35:39Avoidable. All the things, the people that
- 1:35:42showed up at his funeral to manhandle the mom and make her
- 1:35:46sign an NDA or pay her off or whatever it was very.
- 1:35:50And she was deaf and mute. She.
- 1:35:51Was deaf and mute. And at this point the dad is
- 1:35:54still alive and the dad speaks on her behalf, like translates
- 1:35:59on her behalf because he knows sign language.
- 1:36:02When Guddu was younger he was nonverbal and so he that's when
- 1:36:07he learned sign language. It's very sad to see how they
- 1:36:13basically took advantage of a disabled person.
- 1:36:16Yeah, and they tried to get ahead of it on top of that.
- 1:36:19So what a good show though. Oh yeah, I think we ended up
- 1:36:23talking about every single one of the.
- 1:36:25I think so too. I This whole show left a really
- 1:36:28strong impression on me. I really liked it.
- 1:36:30I'm going to see it again in a few years if yeah, I think four
- 1:36:34years is a good amount of time. I.
- 1:36:35Circled back several years later, I still I was still a
- 1:36:40wailing mess by the end. If you've come this far and we
- 1:36:44spoiled the whole show for you, highly recommend going and
- 1:36:47watching for yourself. It is a beautiful pandemic show
- 1:36:51and that's that's pretty much it.
- 1:36:53I had no other thoughts, did you?
- 1:36:55I have one more OK, and it's really small and I can't really
- 1:36:58expand on it. So do it this what you will.
- 1:37:01All right, good. It is like fascination with the
- 1:37:04the marine animals, like the Stingrays and stuff.
- 1:37:07When he goes. I just don't want yellow to die.
- 1:37:10I never want yellow to die. I never want yellow to die over
- 1:37:12and over. And I'm like, oh, there's more
- 1:37:14yellow again. I don't take from that way.
- 1:37:17You will. Yeah.
- 1:37:18But like, he gravitated towards that really hard.
- 1:37:21Yeah. And yellow seems to be a pretty
- 1:37:23big theme throughout the show. I'm not sure what it means, but
- 1:37:26if somebody out there watches it and gets something out of it,
- 1:37:30you know, run it back, I guess. But that stood out to me, too.
- 1:37:33Anyway, sorry. That's it.
- 1:37:35That's all I got. OK.
- 1:37:36I like it. Miguel, thank you so much for
- 1:37:38coming on the show once again. Do you want to plug anything at
- 1:37:42all or? Not today.
- 1:37:44OK, I'll plug this show. Keep coming back.
- 1:37:47Keep listening. Thank you Endow People.
- 1:37:52Well, that's been our show. I'm Jessica and this has been
- 1:37:55the Tebaki Rambles podcast.
