- 0:00So Asperger's inaudible talking about Asperger's and adult not
- 0:04specifically talking about obsessive topic of Interest.
- 0:08Now. I want to talk about obsessive
- 0:10topic of interest because I love this because obviously I have an
- 0:13obsessive type of interest and I love talking about my topic of
- 0:16Interest which is obviously, you know, because I'm on the
- 0:19Spectrum, that's what I do. So I'm going to talk about what
- 0:22is an obsessive interest. Like what is that then I was
- 0:26talking about an example of like obsessive interest in people
- 0:29with not Tradition and then right at the end.
- 0:31I'm going to talk about how this can actually be beneficial not
- 0:34only to you but to the greater scale of society at large.
- 0:38Okay. So basically what is it
- 0:39obsessive interest or obsessive topical interest?
- 0:41It goes like this because of the way that the autistic brain is
- 0:45wired people with an Autism Spectrum condition will usually
- 0:50have an obsessive topic of Interest or an interest of topic
- 0:53that they dive into obsessively not every single thing about
- 0:57it's because that they find comfort in Routine that they
- 1:01found comfort in looking for something that will stimulate
- 1:04their brain in a way that its rhythmic for routine.
- 1:06But it also has this kind of educational pattern.
- 1:10There's something that they can learn for it because the
- 1:12autistic brain always thirst for Learning and you know people who
- 1:17are autistic love learning new things.
- 1:19I love learning things in general So I myself I love
- 1:23learning stuff about science and like geopolitical economics and
- 1:28things like that. And so I'm I really into
- 1:30conspiracy theories and Aliens because this is kind of like my
- 1:34passion for science because I'm also a scientist coming into
- 1:36play with my passion for wanting to learn new stuff because I'm
- 1:40always want to learn new things and that is how the the brain is
- 1:45kind of like thirsting for that knowledge.
- 1:47So with a person who is on the spectrum, they will have a topic
- 1:51of interest that they are obsessed with that.
- 1:54They it could be absolutely anything and then what are
- 1:57examples of it in a minute and they could just be Really
- 2:00obsessed with all know everything about it the one to
- 2:02just learn it constantly that will be that go-to thing.
- 2:04I'll be honest like a comfort blanket if you like.
- 2:07They'll be a wealth of information on this topic.
- 2:10Let me actually become an expert in this field because of the way
- 2:13their brain is wired and I think that's an amazing thing so
- 2:16examples of this like what is an example of an obsessive
- 2:20interest. So for me aliens conspiracies
- 2:22and all that kind of stuff is an example where this is what I
- 2:26would do I would any down time I have when I'm not like working
- 2:29on my YouTube stuff I'm researching like UFOs.
- 2:31I'm looking for like documents and go to NASA and you know
- 2:34looking at what freedom information stuff that they've
- 2:36actually released and then I'm looking at forums for what
- 2:39people are saying about you know, I don't web hackers who
- 2:42found stuff undocumented about UFOs.
- 2:44Then I am buying audiobooks and eBooks about it.
- 2:47I'm downloading tons and tons of PDs on the specific subject and
- 2:51listening to podcast talking about those aliens and those
- 2:54healing experiences and then I'm going out to sites that have
- 2:58like had a lien Act Is he I'm looking at those on studying
- 3:01pictures and sending pictures in my local area that have had
- 3:04alien activity and getting really involved with that.
- 3:06Then somebody asked me he done what you have to do and I've
- 3:08been saying oh, well, you know we're looking at alien patterns
- 3:10in the sky and I'm like talking about it for hours and I could
- 3:12literally look at the person and just bow out for hours and hours
- 3:15and hours stuff about aliens UFOs geopolitical kind of like
- 3:19scientist and stuff like that. And that is an example of like
- 3:23an obsession for instance of a friend of mine knows somebody
- 3:27who is on the Spectrum who was obsessed with Marilyn Monroe.
- 3:29And big shout out to Maryland because I have a tattoo of
- 3:32Marilyn Monroe here. So you can see her here and
- 3:37Marilyn Monroe was a fascinating character and she had a very
- 3:41interesting history and all the whole life and death thing.
- 3:43But the most interesting thing is the guy that we know was so
- 3:46obsessed with Marilyn Monroe. He even went to like where she
- 3:49used to live and there we know first Americans who are the
- 3:52house issues to live on to the place where you used to live and
- 3:54visited the areas of where she visited has every book on it.
- 4:00You know, I don't know life and death every autobiography.
- 4:02She'd ever kind of released any kind of anything to do with
- 4:05Marilyn Monroe. He has it in a memorabilia
- 4:08former and there's nothing wrong with that.
- 4:09I think that's cool. I think it's healthy.
- 4:11I think it's nice to have topic of interest, you know, and it
- 4:14could range from anything. So the also some like topical
- 4:16examples of popular culture, but people could be obsessed with
- 4:21camera lenses, right and you could be like the most
- 4:23knowledgeable person on a camera lens and not specifically a
- 4:26camera guy, but just a guy who knows a lot about camera lenses
- 4:29you could be Somebody who knows everything there is to know
- 4:32about drill bit or screws or screwdrivers and there's nothing
- 4:35wrong with that you can get obsessed with absolutely
- 4:37anything and that is like people on the Spectrum have Obsession.
- 4:40Do you usually carry around things like Doctor Who or sci-fi
- 4:42or Sciences or math or whatever but it could be absolutely
- 4:45anything. It doesn't always have to be
- 4:47those things that just those things keep coming up time and
- 4:49time again, like Comic-Con and comic books and you know, sci-fi
- 4:52and Star Wars and Game of Thrones and all these things.
- 4:54So, you know, and this is no exception.
- 4:56This is Asperger's in adults if you're male or female How's this
- 5:00specific like topic of Interest trait if you like?
- 5:03Okay, so another Mountain Oil the types and topics and all
- 5:06those kind of things. But how is this beneficial to
- 5:08anybody other than just pleasing the self of the person who is
- 5:12exploring those topics. Now, this is beneficial in a
- 5:15simple way. That's where it this way
- 5:17Microsoft for instance knows that there are a large number of
- 5:21autistic individuals who are very good at computer
- 5:23programming because they become obsessed with it and they learn
- 5:25everything there is to know about it.
- 5:27So now Microsoft have a program where they Specifically hire
- 5:31autistic individuals to work for them because they are going to
- 5:34be the most knowledgeable people on that platform showing other
- 5:38people how to do things that probably never seen before for
- 5:40instance with myself. I'm obsessed with search engine
- 5:43optimization and how to optimize content on social media so much
- 5:46so that when I was doing a talk in the autism ball for the
- 5:50national autistic Society a couple of weeks ago, I was
- 5:53actually approached by a firm and maxing film.
- 5:55He wanted me to come in and do a bit of a talk about that
- 5:58obsession with SEO could I teach some stuff could I show them
- 6:02some things but I do a talk for them in their staff.
- 6:03Could they learn from me? And so I went there and I did
- 6:06the talk and because I'm obsessed with it.
- 6:08It wasn't really hard work. It was just me talking about
- 6:11something like I'm obsessed with and I absolutely love I like I
- 6:14just can't get enough of those specific topic of interest and
- 6:19that was just fascinating. Also another version of this is
- 6:22where it led to me and making a video on Aliens conspiracies.
- 6:26I'll leave that on the link above here as well.
- 6:28So you can see that even conspiracy.
- 6:29Video if you want and let me know if you want to see more of
- 6:32those because if you guys are returning subscribers big shout
- 6:34out and a big hello to anybody who's new but people who are
- 6:36returning your my Super Hero Squad the astral Spirits God.
- 6:39Thank you so much for returning and let me know if you'd like to
- 6:41see more alien conspiracy kind of videos.
- 6:44So how is this valuable again? Looking at things like Nikola
- 6:47Tesla Albert Einstein Bill Gates Eminem to name a few people on
- 6:52the autism spectrum who are contributing to our society with
- 6:56their specific topic of Interest Who are pushing something.
- 6:59Would I also love making videos? This is kind of like one of my
- 7:02interests as well as making videos making YouTube stuff
- 7:04which ties along with SEO and things like that.
- 7:07So it's adding value to Society on just like an amazing scale
- 7:11that is amazing having people who are interested in something
- 7:14so much so that they are adding mass amount of value in
- 7:18scalability to society is totally worth it.
- 7:22So I am just honestly just obsessed with loving the fact
- 7:26that autistic individuals have obsessions.
- 7:28I love it. I think we should always ways
- 7:30encourage it parents come to me is sometimes an ask Dan, you
- 7:33know, my kids really interested in Minecraft in gaming and
- 7:35obsessed with game. What should I do?
- 7:36I say will encourage it because maybe they could become a game
- 7:38programmer maybe one day they can review games for a living
- 7:41maybe one day. They can be a consultant for a
- 7:43gaming firm, you know, you never know what opportunities lie
- 7:47through professional interest of somebody who knows a lot about a
- 7:50good topic and a good subject.
