- 0:01Carmen Lezeth: Hey everybody, welcome to All About the Joy.
- 0:04Carmen Lezeth: It's nice to see everyone.
- 0:06Carmen Lezeth: Rick Costa, as always.
- 0:07Carmen Lezeth: Hayden, hi, it's nice to meet you.
- 0:10Carmen Lezeth: Nice to meet you, Carmen and Rick Hi so we were not able to hang out with you in the green room.
- 0:17Carmen Lezeth: You literally just came on and I told you we have to go on because I'm never late.
- 0:23Hayden Craddolph: Yes yes.
- 0:23Carmen Lezeth: What happened?
- 0:24Carmen Lezeth: Did we catch you at a bad night?
- 0:26Hayden Craddolph: No, I can tell your audience what I was dealing with.
- 0:28Hayden Craddolph: I'm just dealing with a little bit of a family emergency in Philadelphia.
- 0:33Hayden Craddolph: So I was just coming up from visiting my father who just got out of the hospital.
- 0:35Hayden Craddolph: So not to damper the show, but that's why I was running a little bit late.
- 0:41Carmen Lezeth: Oh no, I hope everything's okay.
- 0:42Carmen Lezeth: Hey, mario, hi Melanie, hello everyone.
- 0:49Carmen Lezeth: Rick, I'm so sorry because I also cut you off as well, so I apologize a little bit, but I've never met Hayden either, so I always like to tell people where I've met everyone.
- 0:55Carmen Lezeth: So I'm going to start with that first, because you're one of the first people that I'm interviewing that I've never even spoken to, but one of your representatives on LinkedIn reached out to me and for the first time, as Rick knows, I get so many requests for people to come on the show and it's always like some weird thing.
- 1:12Carmen Lezeth: The last one was that I always talk about is like a bobcat, something or other.
- 1:17Carmen Lezeth: I was like I don't know how that's going to work.
- 1:20Carmen Lezeth: So it's nice to meet you, but I really want to talk about Hayden Films and also which is your film festival that you've been doing for, I think, about 20 years.
- 1:31Carmen Lezeth: And I really want to talk about first where you started, because you have an interesting background from what I was able to dig up, where you grew up as a military brat but then turn around and somehow made it to Wall Street, correct?
- 1:45Carmen Lezeth: And then you're in the Hollywood world.
- 1:46Hayden Craddolph: So please, Very, very strange path.
- 1:50Hayden Craddolph: Yes, so definitely I come from a military family, lived in the Lehigh Valley, berks County, lived out in Los Angeles and when I went to my undergraduate at Kutztown University I was a track star and was all about finance and business To your point.
- 2:07Hayden Craddolph: I ended up getting an opportunity to work on Wall Street.
- 2:10Hayden Craddolph: But I always had this passion for film, watching films, seeing all the nuances of mistakes, continuity, errors.
- 2:19Hayden Craddolph: So I always knew I had this passion of science, computer science and filmmaking.
- 2:24Hayden Craddolph: But it was always just a passion that was just on the side.
- 2:26Hayden Craddolph: I liked astronomy, the universe, stuff like that.
- 2:29Carmen Lezeth: So Wait, wait.
- 2:30Carmen Lezeth: What do you mean?
- 2:30Carmen Lezeth: Astronomy Whoa, whoa, whoa whoa.
- 2:32Carmen Lezeth: So you're a sci-fi person.
- 2:33Carmen Lezeth: Right?
- 2:35Carmen Lezeth: Are you a sci-fi geek?
- 2:37Hayden Craddolph: I'm beyond a sci-fi geek.
- 2:38Hayden Craddolph: The reason Hayden films is Hayden films is because of Lucasfilm, so I'll get to that.
- 2:44Carmen Lezeth: I'm wearing a t-shirt.
- 2:46Carmen Lezeth: I'm wearing this t-shirt, okay, because I was like.
- 2:49Carmen Lezeth: I wonder if you'll be able to make the connection why I'm wearing this t-shirt.
- 2:52Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, I mean, right behind me I have the episode one poster on my wall.
- 2:55Hayden Craddolph: I just blurred it out so people wouldn't see all my messy.
- 2:58Carmen Lezeth: Oh, that's so awesome.
- 2:59Carmen Lezeth: Okay, oh, go ahead, all right.
- 3:06Carmen Lezeth: So, estrana, hey, alma, how are you?
- 3:06Carmen Lezeth: I think I told you we do have people who come and visit us, so we'll interrupt once in a while.
- 3:08Carmen Lezeth: Hi, cynthia.
- 3:09Carmen Lezeth: Cynthia's usually on the show, but she chose Rick.
- 3:12Carmen Lezeth: I'm telling you she chose not to come on the show tonight because I know she's watching the premiere of 9-1-1, which is on tonight.
- 3:18Carmen Lezeth: We have a huge love of well, I have a huge love of the show.
- 3:27Carmen Lezeth: Me and Cynthia are a little bit crazed about firemen right now.
- 3:29Carmen Lezeth: We can't help it.
- 3:30Hayden Craddolph: But go ahead, I'm so sorry, you know, just had an opportunity to really think about some of my own personal passions of maybe directing a film project and things of that nature.
- 3:42Hayden Craddolph: So ended up going back to Kutztown University and thinking about just taking some basic theater classes, initially, and because I just wanted to understand the whole process that an actor may go through.
- 3:53Hayden Craddolph: And someone recognized me at the school and said why are you thinking about theater classes?
- 3:58Hayden Craddolph: You should go to the telecommunications program.
- 4:01Hayden Craddolph: I said telecommunications, this program actually exists.
- 4:04Hayden Craddolph: I went in there, saw the studio and all everything that was going on.
- 4:08Carmen Lezeth: Wait.
- 4:08Carmen Lezeth: So I'm going to.
- 4:09Carmen Lezeth: I'm going to back it up a little bit, cause I don't know what you mean by telecommunications.
- 4:12Hayden Craddolph: I'm dating myself.
- 4:15Hayden Craddolph: So telecommunications was the name of the program before I started.
- 4:18Hayden Craddolph: Then it was changed to electronic media, which I got my master's in, and now it's film and cinema.
- 4:26Hayden Craddolph: So it's evolved over time.
- 4:27Hayden Craddolph: But I was the person coming back after working on Wall Street for a few years and they offered me a graduate assistantship and said hey, do you want to come back work on some of these film ideas and theater and we'll pay for you to go to school and you'll help us.
- 4:41Hayden Craddolph: I'm jealous.
- 4:42Carmen Lezeth: I just got really jealous right there, if it's not me up for that.
- 4:45Rick Costa: I'm coming back I always say if it's free, it's for me.
- 4:49Rick Costa: It's for me exactly, I agree with you 100%.
- 4:51Hayden Craddolph: I love that.
- 4:52Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, I see the Jurassic Park, don't hide it.
- 4:55Carmen Lezeth: I'm not hiding it, I just I can stand up.
- 4:57Carmen Lezeth: But you know the reason why.
- 5:00Carmen Lezeth: First of all, I don't have a Star Wars t-shirt.
- 5:02Carmen Lezeth: I don't, I'm sorry, because I'm more of a Star Wars t-shirt.
- 5:05Carmen Lezeth: I have a.
- 5:05Hayden Craddolph: Star Wars t-shirt under my regular blue shirt.
- 5:08Carmen Lezeth: You know why the connection to George Lucas is right.
- 5:12Hayden Craddolph: Of course Industrial magic probably did, the special effects Most likely did.
- 5:17Carmen Lezeth: I'm going to tell the story because I was trying to look for something to connect, because I know you really like George Lucas and you have his quote everywhere.
- 5:24Carmen Lezeth: So, neck, because I know you're you really like George Lucas and you have his quote everywhere.
- 5:28Carmen Lezeth: So I want to get more into the minutiae of that.
- 5:29Carmen Lezeth: Please use that word.
- 5:29Carmen Lezeth: But so here's the thing Steven Spielberg was filming the uh, jurassic Park and he was ending Jurassic Park, the production of it, and he was beginning Schindler's List, and there was a huge snowstorm and he really wanted to shoot during that snowfall or whatever it was.
- 5:48Carmen Lezeth: So he called George Lucas his best friend, he calls him best friend and asked him if he would do all the sound editing, finish the sound editing for Jurassic Park, and that was the whole.
- 6:00Carmen Lezeth: I never wear other logo shirts on my show, but for you I wanted to honor that.
- 6:05Carmen Lezeth: You love George Lucas.
- 6:07Hayden Craddolph: So that's all I got, though yes.
- 6:09Carmen Lezeth: Okay, but why George Lucas?
- 6:10Carmen Lezeth: Is it a movie?
- 6:13Hayden Craddolph: It's just growing up watching Star Wars and just understanding the passion of.
- 6:18Hayden Craddolph: I was always a Darth Vader fan, right, darth Vader was my favorite fan, my favorite character growing up before, because obviously episode four, five and six came out first, before one, two and three, so you were right put into the middle of the narrative.
- 6:33Hayden Craddolph: It wasn't until later on, in episode two, where Darth Vader was Hayden Christensen and I'm Hayden Kredoff.
- 6:40Hayden Craddolph: It was pretty cool that Hayden and Hayden so my favorite character ended up being actually portrayed by a person with my namesake.
- 6:48Hayden Craddolph: So that was pretty cool.
- 6:49Hayden Craddolph: But no, I really just understood the passion between the hero's journey, and most people don't realize that Darth Vader is a fallen hero.
- 6:57Hayden Craddolph: He is the hero of the saga, he is the chosen one, so he does bring balance to the force.
- 7:02Hayden Craddolph: So it's just going through that whole process of how he goes through to save the universe is pretty cool, and I just think that's just a motif of what you can go through in your own personal challenges in life, and you can do that through Darth Vader or Superman.
- 7:17Hayden Craddolph: So I've got a couple characters that I've anointed myself with.
- 7:22Carmen Lezeth: Wait, you're also DC Comics.
- 7:24Carmen Lezeth: God, you're on the wrong show.
- 7:25Hayden Craddolph: No, listen, I get it.
- 7:26Hayden Craddolph: Most of my people that work for me are Marvel people.
- 7:29Hayden Craddolph: I said listen, this is a DC office, so pick a character, pick Batman, pick Martian Manhunter, wonder Woman, batman.
- 7:36Hayden Craddolph: I already picked Superman, so you can't have Clark Kent.
- 7:40Carmen Lezeth: Wow, that's so awesome, Rick.
- 7:41Carmen Lezeth: I don't mean to cut you off, I'm just so intrigued.
- 7:44Carmen Lezeth: It's actually good we didn't talk in the green room actually.
- 7:46Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, I knew when.
- 7:48Hayden Craddolph: I was looking at everything when I was driving.
- 7:50Hayden Craddolph: I said we'll be fine.
- 7:52Hayden Craddolph: We'll be fine, we don't need to prep, we're just going to go get it.
- 7:56Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, no.
- 8:01Hayden Craddolph: Go ahead, Rick.
- 8:02Hayden Craddolph: I was going to Jones, for sure there will never be another voice like that.
- 8:05Hayden Craddolph: That is true, yeah, I hope they were doing some magical projects behind the scenes, because I would have come out with a Darth Vader show before some other projects.
- 8:14Hayden Craddolph: But that would have been me.
- 8:15Hayden Craddolph: They wouldn't want me running Lucasfilm.
- 8:18Carmen Lezeth: I don't know what it is, but I don't love Star Wars.
- 8:21Hayden Craddolph: Okay, did you ever watch Star Wars correctly?
- 8:23Carmen Lezeth: Oh yeah, but only four or five of the originals.
- 8:25Carmen Lezeth: I call them the original.
- 8:26Carmen Lezeth: So yeah, it's his original but I it's not that I don't love it, but Rick knows this, everybody knows this I tend to like what I call bubblegum sci-fi, like happy endings and joy and so things like Battlestar Galactica and Star Wars, and I'll watch them and I'll enjoy them, or X-Files, whatever, but it's just, it's darker, it's a little bit darker, yeah.
- 8:52Hayden Craddolph: So it's a little bit of a longer narrative too, because the story takes nine movies, at least six, the original six, obviously, I'm not sure about the second.
- 9:02Carmen Lezeth: But did you like the ones after the originals as much as you like the originals?
- 9:06Hayden Craddolph: well the reason why and I know it's different now because obviously and I don't want to sit here and ever bash lucas films but obviously he sold it, I think 2012, 2013, so I can say what I'm about to say.
- 9:19Hayden Craddolph: I think what happened in seven, eight and nine rogue one was a pretty good standalone, but I think what they did seven seven was a remake.
- 9:25Hayden Craddolph: 9, rogue One was a pretty good standalone, but I think what they did in 7, 7 was a remake of 4.
- 9:27Hayden Craddolph: But that was just pretty much a remake of 4 for the 21st century, and I get it.
- 9:31Hayden Craddolph: They wanted to retell a story which was the same story and the whole Rey story in Episode 7 was no different than the whole Luke story in Episode 4.
- 9:39Hayden Craddolph: 7, 8, I don't know what happened there.
- 9:41Hayden Craddolph: I don't know why they got confused with that.
- 9:43Hayden Craddolph: They turned off the whole fan base and everything with those two movies, which really took it somewhere else.
- 9:49Hayden Craddolph: That really didn't need to go.
- 9:53Hayden Craddolph: But getting back to your original point, the reason I personally liked one, two and three and now, if you look back at it now, I get it 1999, I think 99, it was when episode one came out.
- 10:03Hayden Craddolph: We were talking about the first film that was all done digitally, so you had some initial issues.
- 10:11Hayden Craddolph: Jaja Brinks was a new character.
- 10:12Hayden Craddolph: They were trying to connect to a new, younger generation.
- 10:15Hayden Craddolph: So it wasn't just it wasn't perfect, but because of that film, because of star Wars episode one, it opened up everything else that happened afterwards with Avatar and all the other Titanic things that's true.
- 10:29Hayden Craddolph: Because a lot of people don't realize that Industrial Light and Magic is a Lucasfilm company.
- 10:35Hayden Craddolph: That's right.
- 10:35Hayden Craddolph: Every single one of the films that are out there from Lord of the Rings, jurassic Park, dc movies, marvel movies the special effects are done by industrial light magic.
- 10:45Hayden Craddolph: But one, two and three the reason why I personally enjoyed them, although one wasn't my favorite I wanted to see the fall of Anakin.
- 10:54Hayden Craddolph: I wanted to see how it occurred.
- 10:56Hayden Craddolph: Because when you see four, five and six, when you're a young person, you're like Darth Vader's just here.
- 11:01Hayden Craddolph: Why is he so evil?
- 11:02Hayden Craddolph: How did he fall?
- 11:03Hayden Craddolph: How did he become this person, and so I waited 20 years to finally see that happen.
- 11:07Carmen Lezeth: To see that happen.
- 11:08Hayden Craddolph: right, they weren't perfect films, but if you compare those three films, 1, 2, and 3 to 7, 8, and 9, they're masterpieces in my opinion.
- 11:16Carmen Lezeth: Right, right right.
- 11:18Hayden Craddolph: Yeah.
- 11:18Carmen Lezeth: Okay, I just want to say that Mario Dawson said that you're 100% accurate, so you know it's a done deal.
- 11:25Carmen Lezeth: It's a done deal.
- 11:27Hayden Craddolph: I can talk about Star Wars for the whole show, but no, no, it's okay, I'm laughing because I'm thinking Rick is like really excited.
- 11:35Carmen Lezeth: Rick is like yes, he's totally into sci-fi.
- 11:39Hayden Craddolph: I go to Comic-Con.
- 11:40Hayden Craddolph: Well, I didn't.
- 11:41Hayden Craddolph: I go to Comic-Con normally Comic-Con San Diego every two years, do you really?
- 11:46Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, we do.
- 11:46Hayden Craddolph: I didn't go.
- 11:47Hayden Craddolph: My last time was there 2023.
- 11:51Hayden Craddolph: I was there and I wasn't there for two years, two or three years because of the global pandemic and all that stuff that was going on, and then that last full time I was there was 2019.
- 12:04Hayden Craddolph: Then I was there 2017, 2015.
- 12:05Hayden Craddolph: I usually go every two years.
- 12:08Carmen Lezeth: I worked for this company and of course I was in charge of all the money.
- 12:11Carmen Lezeth: And the guys had come up to me.
- 12:13Carmen Lezeth: They're like we have to go to San Diego.
- 12:15Carmen Lezeth: They thought I was so dumb that I didn't know what was going on, but they needed to do a business trip and they wanted it paid for.
- 12:22Carmen Lezeth: And so they came to it this elaborate explanation as to why they had to go to San Diego.
- 12:26Carmen Lezeth: And I was like guys, if you want to go to Comic-Con?
- 12:36Hayden Craddolph: just say so, it's not a big deal, just go.
- 12:37Hayden Craddolph: People are like oh, do you want to go to the Comic-Con in New York and these other places?
- 12:39Hayden Craddolph: I said no, once you go to Comic-Con San Diego, none of the rest, you got to go to the original one, for sure.
- 12:43Hayden Craddolph: Didn go to comic con san diego, none of the rest, you got to go to the original one, for sure, didn't rick?
- 12:50Hayden Craddolph: Didn't you go to comic con too, to the new york one?
- 12:51Hayden Craddolph: I did one.
- 12:52Hayden Craddolph: Okay, that that's a close second, but at the javis convention center I believe right.
- 12:53Rick Costa: Yes, yeah, it's an experience.
- 12:54Rick Costa: Yeah, you'll have to come to the san diego one rick, we'll have to do like a show if you're into comics or any of that stuff at all, you need to at at least go to one Comic-Con just to experience that.
- 13:04Hayden Craddolph: Exactly, exactly.
- 13:06Carmen Lezeth: And you don't have to admit that you've ever been to one either.
- 13:08Carmen Lezeth: For those who are like me, who will never admit that you've ever been to one, because I've never been to one.
- 13:14Carmen Lezeth: Okay, so you we were talking about you going from college, going to wall street.
- 13:20Carmen Lezeth: I have a financial background and I ended up in the same kind of boat where I was working for Thompson Financial.
- 13:26Carmen Lezeth: I ended up going to college because of them and then I ended up moving right out to Hollywood.
- 13:31Carmen Lezeth: So I'm curious when did you always knew you'd be involved in film, or yeah?
- 13:37Hayden Craddolph: I mean, I don't know if I always knew, I just knew that the passion was always there and, like I said, it gets to skid.
- 13:43Hayden Craddolph: Getting back to the Kutztown story, I came back enrolled in the electronic media program and I had this idea for a character and it was called the Hallucinator.
- 13:54Hayden Craddolph: And so this character was going to go through and have these hallucinations and dream sequences and filmmakers from around the world were going to shoot the dream sequences and point of view and I was going to actually edit those dream sequences in this narrative right, it was going to be this interactive film and it was way before its time.
- 14:14Hayden Craddolph: It was before YouTube and all the interactive properties and platforms that we know of.
- 14:20Hayden Craddolph: So I pitched the idea to the Small Business Development Center and they said what else have you done creatively?
- 14:26Hayden Craddolph: I said what are you talking about?
- 14:26Hayden Craddolph: I'm like working with all these professors working on this film project.
- 14:29Hayden Craddolph: And then they said who else?
- 14:31Hayden Craddolph: Who do you know in Hollywood?
- 14:32Hayden Craddolph: I said I don't know anyone in Hollywood.
- 14:33Hayden Craddolph: So you're going to make this pretty cool project, working with all these filmmakers from around the world, and you're going to become this big director.
- 14:40Hayden Craddolph: I said, okay, I see the work.
- 14:41Hayden Craddolph: What if I took?
- 14:42Carmen Lezeth: some of the money that I raised and create a $10,000 grand prize for the best short film.
- 14:53Hayden Craddolph: create my own technology.
- 14:55Hayden Craddolph: So in 2004, 20 years ago, we created the Hayden Films Online Film Festival.
- 15:00Hayden Craddolph: We put a $10,000 grand prize out there.
- 15:02Hayden Craddolph: We took the 50 top films from around the world under 35 minutes in length.
- 15:07Hayden Craddolph: They competed on our website, haydenfilmscom at the time for 60 days, competing against each other.
- 15:14Hayden Craddolph: It was open to any genre, as long as it was 35 minutes or length.
- 15:18Hayden Craddolph: And then we picked the top four films and then we took them to New York City to their Directors Guild of America Theater, them on the big screen, which is what they want that whole brick and mortar event but this is the in-person part of the film festival, because you still do that now yeah, so that's always part of it.
- 15:34Hayden Craddolph: Our film festival is always online first.
- 15:36Hayden Craddolph: Right, then we take the films offline and celebrate them in a brick and mortar environment okay, before you go, you go further.
- 15:43Carmen Lezeth: I just want to say I think way ahead of your time because no one was doing that in 2004, doing online like an online festival.
- 15:53Hayden Craddolph: Nope, that's cool.
- 15:55Hayden Craddolph: It was pretty cool.
- 15:57Hayden Craddolph: Everyone, I remember back in the day they said no one's going to watch films on your laptop and your phone.
- 16:03Hayden Craddolph: And, as I said, you guys are wrong.
- 16:04Hayden Craddolph: You guys are so wrong.
- 16:06Hayden Craddolph: And what was so cool about it is that our first three years we got some of the best short films from USC, nyu international films.
- 16:17Hayden Craddolph: We were getting real great content and some of the filmmakers that made our top four each year are now working in the industry, doing great work.
- 16:24Hayden Craddolph: So our first three years was in new york and then our fourth year, we went out to los angeles demi moore, kirsten dunst dunst they both submitted films.
- 16:34Hayden Craddolph: They ended up coming to our event.
- 16:35Hayden Craddolph: So that's so.
- 16:37Hayden Craddolph: Our film festival is always about technology first.
- 16:40Hayden Craddolph: Then it wasn't like an annual brick and mortar event.
- 16:43Hayden Craddolph: It was always something that was fluid and moving around so is this how?
- 16:48Carmen Lezeth: now I'm not sure how to say it's sembo.
- 16:50Carmen Lezeth: Is that how you say how you developed into?
- 16:53Hayden Craddolph: exactly so sembo.
- 16:55Hayden Craddolph: Sembo is a is a net new company.
- 16:58Carmen Lezeth: It's a sas platform okay, you just okay, wait, whoa I'm?
- 17:02Hayden Craddolph: gonna go.
- 17:02Hayden Craddolph: I'll try to keep it down, if you want.
- 17:04Carmen Lezeth: No, I know my people, so we look it.
- 17:08Carmen Lezeth: This is the neighborhood we're hanging out, we're hanging out.
- 17:10Hayden Craddolph: We're on the stoop.
- 17:11Carmen Lezeth: We're on the stoop.
- 17:12Carmen Lezeth: We're on the stoop, we're just chilling.
- 17:14Carmen Lezeth: Now talk like a normal person.
- 17:18Hayden Craddolph: All right, so let me try to break it.
- 17:20Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, so instead of now, 20 years later, people embed YouTube videos onto the website.
- 17:28Carmen Lezeth: Cynthia just said.
- 17:28Carmen Lezeth: So you were Netflix before Netflix, exactly, I love it.
- 17:32Hayden Craddolph: So, cynthia, you're a hundred percent right.
- 17:35Hayden Craddolph: So, semboo, go to Semboocom.
- 17:38Hayden Craddolph: For those that are out there, semboo allows you to launch your own Netflix on your website, your own Hulu, your own Apple TV.
- 17:46Hayden Craddolph: So you've you're able to install a complete media library with all the compliments that Netflix has on your own website.
- 17:55Hayden Craddolph: So you're not putting YouTube or Vimeo, but that was a by-product of our festival and the technology that we created.
- 18:02Carmen Lezeth: It's amazing that you did that, so you're the founder of that as well.
- 18:06Carmen Lezeth: You created that as well, correct?
- 18:08Carmen Lezeth: How does it work?
- 18:09Carmen Lezeth: Do I purchase a monthly pass, or yeah, I'm getting confused by Sembo and then how you can view the film festival, because we want people to see the film festival now.
- 18:20Hayden Craddolph: We want people to see some of the films.
- 18:22Hayden Craddolph: You can go on our film, our festival page right now.
- 18:26Carmen Lezeth: So everybody will be able to see it there too, and I'll put it on the website, no problem.
- 18:29Carmen Lezeth: Okay, so here is can't post messages to some channels, oh, it's saying it can't, so it'll go to some of them, but not all the channels.
- 18:40Hayden Craddolph: So for those that are out there watching right now.
- 18:42Hayden Craddolph: So if you click on the site and you scroll down, the voting is ended for this current competition.
- 18:49Hayden Craddolph: However, for those that still want to watch some great film, we've received 55 films from all over the world so you can go there.
- 18:55Hayden Craddolph: That library that you see, that's the simbu technology that's on the hayden Films website.
- 19:02Carmen Lezeth: That same technology can go on Google.
- 19:05Carmen Lezeth: I'm going to cut you for a second.
- 19:06Carmen Lezeth: I'm going to cut you.
- 19:07Carmen Lezeth: So for the audio, because this will air on the podcast.
- 19:11Carmen Lezeth: On Sunday it's haydenfilmsinstituteorg If you go there, and then it's forward slash festival.
- 19:19Hayden Craddolph: You'll see the rest of it.
- 19:20Hayden Craddolph: Or you can just go to haydenfilmsinstituteorg and you'll see a button on the right hand side View Festival, and you can see everything right there.
- 19:27Carmen Lezeth: Okay, go ahead with the Sembu.
- 19:28Carmen Lezeth: You're saying that the technology that we see there?
- 19:31Hayden Craddolph: I don't know, rick, do you have the page open?
- 19:33Hayden Craddolph: But the technology that is in the page, all that technology is actually being embedded, placed on, trying to use layman terms, that technology is the Sembu technology.
- 19:47Hayden Craddolph: So you're not leaving Hayden Films to go watch the film on Sembu, you're watching it on Hayden Films.
- 19:53Hayden Craddolph: So, carmen, if you had your own website and you wanted to have a media library, a podcast or VOD content, sembu allows you to have the website.
- 20:04Carmen Lezeth: Let's say carmensuarezcom or carmenlesetcom because I do have a website, so wait, but then how is it different?
- 20:11Carmen Lezeth: Because I do have that up on my website.
- 20:13Carmen Lezeth: So how would it be more beneficial for me to have it on All About the Joy?
- 20:18Carmen Lezeth: We have that website too and I always try to put up.
- 20:21Carmen Lezeth: It can't hold all of our live streams, so I only do the social medias You're saying it would hold.
- 20:28Hayden Craddolph: So again, just think about Sembu working with universities, EDU content, film festivals, sports content it really doesn't matter, right?
- 20:38Hayden Craddolph: If you have content, we're not saying don't do your social media.
- 20:42Hayden Craddolph: We're not saying don't do YouTube, but micro content should go on YouTube.
- 20:46Hayden Craddolph: And then you direct everything back to your media library on your website, which is the Sembu technology.
- 20:52Hayden Craddolph: But the best part about Sembu is you're able to activate a payment plan.
- 20:56Hayden Craddolph: So if you want to have a 799 payment plan like Disney Plus, or 1499 plan like Netflix, sembu allows you to layer a payment plan right on top of your content.
- 21:07Hayden Craddolph: If you want to do live streaming, like we're doing right now, sembu technology will allow you to push your live feed right to your website, like this feed right now.
- 21:18Hayden Craddolph: I'm sure it has RTMP code.
- 21:20Carmen Lezeth: It does, but I can't do it to my website.
- 21:25Hayden Craddolph: Sembu will allow this program, as we speak right now, to go to your website with one simple click of a button.
- 21:34Carmen Lezeth: Interesting.
- 21:36Rick Costa: And so the big difference is you can monetize.
- 21:39Hayden Craddolph: You can monetize.
- 21:39Hayden Craddolph: You can do your own ads, you can do pre-roll advertising, you can do banner ads, and then you can do pre-roll advertising.
- 21:45Hayden Craddolph: You can do banner ads, and then you can do subscription base um as well, on top of your content.
- 21:49Hayden Craddolph: So again, if it wasn't for Hayden Films, we wanted to have been able to do you want to show whatever it is you're?
- 21:57Carmen Lezeth: I'm not trying to be all up in your business, but I see your website.
- 22:00Carmen Lezeth: Oh wait, but can you just do it on ours?
- 22:04Carmen Lezeth: Can you share?
- 22:06Hayden Craddolph: I can if I have a share function.
- 22:08Carmen Lezeth: Look, it's like carmen set up already thinking.
- 22:10Carmen Lezeth: But I want the friends and family plan okay so you guys see my screen right now okay, I don't.
- 22:17Carmen Lezeth: I think I have to do this.
- 22:19Hayden Craddolph: Wait one second there you go okay so this is senbucom.
- 22:23Hayden Craddolph: So so right now Sembucom, there are three prices right there.
- 22:30Carmen Lezeth: Okay.
- 22:31Hayden Craddolph: Because it is software that you're purchasing and then so this particular software, when you log in, I'll log in as Hayden right now.
- 22:40Hayden Craddolph: So if I log into my account right now, this is where I manage everything on my.
- 22:49Hayden Craddolph: So this is all my content.
- 22:51Hayden Craddolph: This is where I can set up ads, advertising.
- 22:55Hayden Craddolph: This is where I can manage my payments, if I want to charge for certain content.
- 23:02Carmen Lezeth: It's friendly, it's user friendly.
- 23:04Hayden Craddolph: It's beyond friendly, Beyond Friendly.
- 23:06Hayden Craddolph: So if I go to Hayden Films, if I go down here, all of these content right here, purchase plan.
- 23:12Hayden Craddolph: This right here allows me to leverage the Simbu technology.
- 23:17Hayden Craddolph: What kind of payment do I want to purchase?
- 23:20Hayden Craddolph: And then I gain access to this VOD content.
- 23:23Carmen Lezeth: Oh, Rick, you already went and saw some of these movies, didn't you?
- 23:26Carmen Lezeth: I?
- 23:27Rick Costa: did, I did yeah.
- 23:28Carmen Lezeth: And what did you think about the software but, more importantly, about the films that you watched?
- 23:33Rick Costa: The software.
- 23:33Rick Costa: There's nothing to think about you.
- 23:34Rick Costa: Literally just click the button Exactly it starts.
- 23:37Hayden Craddolph: So right here is another one of our use cases, and he focuses on speakers that come in, but again, these aren't YouTube videos.
- 23:45Hayden Craddolph: This is all a media library that he's able to control YouTube videos.
- 23:50Carmen Lezeth: This is all a media library that he's able to control.
- 23:52Hayden Craddolph: That is so cool.
- 23:53Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, so for anyone that's out there, I know that Semboo's always been a challenging product to explain, but this is where you can really do every single thing in one solution and really, again, I'll just try to make it as easy as possible.
- 24:07Hayden Craddolph: Set up your own Netflix.
- 24:11Carmen Lezeth: Okay, wait, are we staying on this page?
- 24:13Hayden Craddolph: We can actually leave, I'll stop sharing.
- 24:15Hayden Craddolph: That's okay, are the files hosted?
- 24:17Rick Costa: on Senbu servers, or we would still be able to host ourselves.
- 24:21Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, let me stop sharing my screen Leave.
- 24:23Carmen Lezeth: That's all right, I clicked you off already.
- 24:25Hayden Craddolph: We're off Good.
- 24:26Hayden Craddolph: So the way it works is all of your content is still being hosted by Sembu, right?
- 24:32Hayden Craddolph: So we have a partnership with AWS, which is Amazon Web Services.
- 24:36Hayden Craddolph: Amazon Web Services does all the cloud computing for Netflix, Disney, Hulu, Sembu and others.
- 24:44Hayden Craddolph: So when you upload it to Sembu, it is going to the cloud, which is powered by AWS, but once it's in Sembu, it pushes it to your website and then that's when you can create different playlists and that's when you can really leverage the power.
- 24:59Hayden Craddolph: And I'm going to talk briefly and again, I don't want to talk too negatively about YouTube, but right now, if you look at it.
- 25:06Carmen Lezeth: We're on YouTube right now.
- 25:08Hayden Craddolph: When you're on YouTube, there's only a very small percentage of creators or publishers that can take advantage of their creator rev share.
- 25:17Hayden Craddolph: You have to have 1,000 subscribers, you have to have 4,000 hours of watch time.
- 25:21Hayden Craddolph: You have to go through all these hoops.
- 25:22Hayden Craddolph: With Sembu, it's a turnkey solution.
- 25:25Hayden Craddolph: You can install the software, you can monetize from day one, you can live stream from day one, you can live stream from day one.
- 25:32Hayden Craddolph: You can still use some of the third parties, like the stream that you're on right now.
- 25:36Hayden Craddolph: You can live stream through Zoom, through Restream, through other properties, custom code, whatever you want to do.
- 25:43Hayden Craddolph: But the best part about it is that once you upload your content, it's always going to be in the cloud.
- 25:49Hayden Craddolph: If you decide to leave us, you would download your content and you would get a zip drive of all your content.
- 25:56Carmen Lezeth: It's interesting because one of the things I struggle with is I have a lot of followers on TikTok but I don't live stream on TikTok because it's just.
- 26:05Carmen Lezeth: It's a whole different, cumbersome thing to do.
- 26:08Carmen Lezeth: But I could probably monetize on TikTok.
- 26:11Carmen Lezeth: And then it's like you have YouTube but I don't have enough followers to even consider that an option at the moment.
- 26:17Carmen Lezeth: But if I could have people come to my website, that would make it a much more viable thing, because then I could just tell people come to All About the Joy, or Carmen Suarez.
- 26:26Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, because, again, if you look at again, leverage YouTube, it allows you to create all those micro content pieces for three minutes.
- 26:34Hayden Craddolph: You'd have all about the joy, right?
- 26:37Hayden Craddolph: You'd have a three minute clip, maybe the three minute highlight, you'd have your description, your hashtags, your description, but then the embedded link would go back to your own website, which would be the SEMBU installation, your own merch, your own e commerce.
- 26:52Hayden Craddolph: If you're selling different products and services, it's all happening on your website.
- 26:56Carmen Lezeth: And so that's the only thing you'd have to do.
- 26:58Carmen Lezeth: You just purchase the monthly or whatever works for your company or whatever.
- 27:02Carmen Lezeth: So let's say you do the $75 a month.
- 27:03Carmen Lezeth: That's all you need to do.
- 27:06Carmen Lezeth: You guys set up everything else.
- 27:08Hayden Craddolph: Exactly.
- 27:08Hayden Craddolph: So what happens?
- 27:09Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, exactly, you would log in, create an account.
- 27:13Hayden Craddolph: If you want VOD, only at 75 a month if you want to have two concurrent live streams.
- 27:18Hayden Craddolph: That's the professional package.
- 27:21Hayden Craddolph: So let's say Carmen and Rick.
- 27:22Hayden Craddolph: Let's say Rick is doing an event at the Javis Convention Center, he's doing a panel discussion and he brings his own film crew.
- 27:29Hayden Craddolph: Convention center, he's doing a panel discussion and he brings his own film crew.
- 27:34Hayden Craddolph: He can take his iPhone pro-consumer iPhone connect to a free Streamlabs app, push that through Sembu onto the website and, carmen, you could be out in San Diego doing a whole separate podcast.
- 27:44Hayden Craddolph: One podcast can be monetized, one could be free and that's two concurrent live streams.
- 27:49Hayden Craddolph: On YouTube.
- 27:49Hayden Craddolph: You can only do one concurrent live stream.
- 27:52Hayden Craddolph: With our system we can do all the way up to 50 concurrent live streams, which is ideal for universities that might have four or five basketball games going on because they have a basketball tournament, but then they have some speakers on the north side of campus.
- 28:05Hayden Craddolph: So the great thing about our tagline is Sembu is distribution your way.
- 28:12Carmen Lezeth: We always ask the question because, remember, we have an audio part of this.
- 28:15Carmen Lezeth: So Alma just asked how long will we be able to view the films?
- 28:20Hayden Craddolph: Good question.
- 28:20Hayden Craddolph: So we're going to actually believe it or not.
- 28:22Hayden Craddolph: The films are going to be available through the rest of the year.
- 28:24Hayden Craddolph: That new update, there's a new press release and everything.
- 28:28Hayden Craddolph: So some of our re-skinning of the website is going to happen.
- 28:31Hayden Craddolph: So the big event is going to be October 25th, 26, 27.
- 28:36Hayden Craddolph: That's the in-person celebration.
- 28:37Hayden Craddolph: I guess we'll talk about that in a minute, but you guys can definitely enjoy films now through the rest of the year on the small screen, as you see it, and then, of course, on the big screen.
- 28:47Hayden Craddolph: You'll get to be able to see the films in Reading, pennsylvania, from October 25th through the 27th.
- 28:54Hayden Craddolph: We're going to have a red carpet experience.
- 28:56Hayden Craddolph: We're going to have different panel discussions and we're going to have all the films.
- 29:01Hayden Craddolph: And then, on top of it, we're giving out a $25,000 grand prize this time, which is way bigger than we've ever done before and is there any stipulation to those people that win that, like they win the ten thousand dollars?
- 29:13Carmen Lezeth: can they use it for anything, or what is it?
- 29:15Hayden Craddolph: for, yeah, no, it's a cash prize.
- 29:17Hayden Craddolph: So that's one of the things that differentiate us from a lot of other festivals and competitions out there, where sometimes they're really in-kind donations and there's all these different things that are going.
- 29:27Hayden Craddolph: No, it'll be a real check and our goal and our hope is that they'll pay off some of their credit card debt for this current film or they can reach a prize for, maybe, some of their new projects and things of that nature.
- 29:42Hayden Craddolph: So, yes, we are a nonprofit.
- 29:43Hayden Craddolph: So two companies.
- 29:45Carmen Lezeth: Hayden Films Institute is a nonprofit organization focusing on film festivals screenplay competitions community I really want to emphasize that because I think it's really important.
- 29:55Carmen Lezeth: People are more willing to spend some money when they know it's a nonprofit organization.
- 30:01Carmen Lezeth: So please check out the films at the festival because it's a nonprofit.
- 30:06Carmen Lezeth: You're helping a good cause and yeah, that's why I asked the question.
- 30:09Carmen Lezeth: And then Sembu, but that's a software program.
- 30:10Carmen Lezeth: You're helping a good cause and yeah, that's why I asked the question, and then Sembu, but that's a software program.
- 30:12Carmen Lezeth: That's a whole other so that's a net new.
- 30:13Hayden Craddolph: That's a standalone company that was inspired by some of the work that we did with Hated Films.
- 30:19Hayden Craddolph: So the work that we did through Hated Films, we said, well, maybe our software that we built in-house could be used for other film festivals, educational organizations, sports educational organizations.
- 30:32Hayden Craddolph: So that's how senbu came about.
- 30:32Hayden Craddolph: But the answer, cynthia's question.
- 30:35Carmen Lezeth: Let's ask the question first.
- 30:36Carmen Lezeth: So I'm sorry, I know you're new to this.
- 30:38Carmen Lezeth: We're gonna have you back on a regular basis.
- 30:40Carmen Lezeth: Cynthia just asked are there any films that you reject?
- 30:45Carmen Lezeth: What is the criteria for the films?
- 30:47Carmen Lezeth: I'm gonna add this who also judges the films?
- 30:49Carmen Lezeth: So go ahead.
- 30:50Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, again, great questions Again.
- 30:52Hayden Craddolph: Our festival is so very unique, the actual festival itself.
- 30:57Hayden Craddolph: The criteria is films under 45 minutes or length 45 minutes.
- 31:03Hayden Craddolph: It used to be 35.
- 31:04Hayden Craddolph: We upped it a little bit so it's under 45 minutes, any genre, right.
- 31:09Hayden Craddolph: Any genre in under 45 minutes, once those films come in.
- 31:13Hayden Craddolph: We do have a core team of in-house judges of five to seven judges that watch all the films.
- 31:21Hayden Craddolph: They take all the films and try to narrow it down to 50, but then it's up to the public.
- 31:28Hayden Craddolph: Once those 50 films have been selected, they go online because we want the worldwide audience to actually view and rate the film.
- 31:38Hayden Craddolph: So a net new viewer.
- 31:41Hayden Craddolph: They have to watch at least five films on the whole 50 category for their rating to qualify.
- 31:48Hayden Craddolph: So you can't just come and vote on your buddy's film.
- 31:51Carmen Lezeth: Right, we love.
- 31:52Hayden Craddolph: Carmen's movie.
- 31:53Hayden Craddolph: Don't just watch Carmen's movie.
- 31:56Hayden Craddolph: It's not like American Idol, where it's a popularity contest.
- 31:59Hayden Craddolph: It's the best overall rated film that gets selected.
- 32:04Hayden Craddolph: So we pick the top four films based on overall rating and then the festival runs for 60 days.
- 32:10Hayden Craddolph: So each filmmaker is, in essence, their own little mini marketeer.
- 32:14Hayden Craddolph: So they're promoting our festival and their film, but which drives traffic to all of the content, because there's great stories and we feel that those stories are gaining a voice online.
- 32:28Carmen Lezeth: This is actually pretty unique and really regular folk making decisions on cause.
- 32:33Carmen Lezeth: I thought you were going to say something like we have five people who are industry professional, which always there's a place for that.
- 32:41Carmen Lezeth: I'm not saying there isn't.
- 32:42@Haydenfilms: Yeah.
- 32:43Carmen Lezeth: Love this kind of from the ground, regular people making the decisions.
- 32:48Hayden Craddolph: Yeah.
- 32:48Hayden Craddolph: So the first cut is definitely we have some professors and some industry panelists, so we do go through a pretty decent, laborious process to try to get the best of the best, but after that we want the worldwide audience, because the thing that we've learned over the last 20 years is that and I think one of the things that Sundance did when Robert Redford created Sundance is it was all about the independent film world, independent film spirit.
- 33:18Hayden Craddolph: But as the festival became super popular, then you saw more and more contemporary, commercial-based films getting all the notoriety.
- 33:27Hayden Craddolph: We feel that the audience of the world, the global world, is going to tell us what is the best story.
- 33:32Hayden Craddolph: So if they tell us what the best story is, then we've gotten a really good value of those votes which are online there's also something really encouraging about like, as you're talking, maybe I'll do a short film because you don't feel so intimidated.
- 33:47Carmen Lezeth: Because when you think about sundance or you think about the Academy, you're thinking like I need to be so and so, blah, blah, blah.
- 33:53Carmen Lezeth: And so there's also something encouraging about this because it feels like it'd be real people watching it.
- 33:58Carmen Lezeth: It doesn't mean you don't have to have a lot of experience and make a great film.
- 34:01Carmen Lezeth: I'm sure you have a lot of great films.
- 34:03Carmen Lezeth: What are some that you reject, as Cynthia was asking?
- 34:10Hayden Craddolph: What that you reject, as Cynthia was asking what might be reasons for rejection, and we go to the basics.
- 34:13Hayden Craddolph: Right, and this goes back to the whole Lucasfilm.
- 34:15Hayden Craddolph: So, right, you have audio is very important, right?
- 34:18Hayden Craddolph: If you have good audio, it's going to enhance your film.
- 34:21Hayden Craddolph: If you have good lighting, it's going to enhance your film writing you probably need a good story first, first of all you need a good story, but things that are going to reject it is a filmmaker will have a good story first.
- 34:29Hayden Craddolph: First of all, you need a good story, but things that are going to reject it is a filmmaker will have a great story, but you can't hear anything right, yeah, good point yeah, definitely a great story.
- 34:38Hayden Craddolph: Good audio, good editing, good lighting it all goes down to really the technical stuff.
- 34:43Hayden Craddolph: Eventually does this look good, but the story definitely is the most important.
- 34:48Hayden Craddolph: You can't fix a bad story.
- 34:49Hayden Craddolph: And then, of course, I think the actors that pour their heart and soul into the craft is also important.
- 34:55Hayden Craddolph: So the whole thing is, each film stands on its own merit, if that makes any sense, because there's experimental films that come in that you would never think that would make the top 50, but they're so good in so many different factions, then they make the top 50 and then they resonate with the world.
- 35:14Hayden Craddolph: Right, our job is to narrow it down to the top 50.
- 35:19Hayden Craddolph: I see another good question.
- 35:21Carmen Lezeth: This is from Alma and she says have you ever done a scholarship component for film students?
- 35:27Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, so that's a really good question.
- 35:29Hayden Craddolph: Because of the success of our film festival, the Olivet's Boys and Girls Club reached out to us and we did this very small project and we were going to go in and teach some high school students how to write, shoot direct public service announcements to bring an awareness to weapons in high school.
- 35:52Hayden Craddolph: And it was through PAX USA.
- 35:53Hayden Craddolph: It was a nonprofit organization we partnered with in New York City so we went in.
- 35:57Hayden Craddolph: It was a very small group of students and so we went in there with ourselves and some of our interns to try to help them tell their stories right to raise awareness about weapons and guns in school.
- 36:09Hayden Craddolph: That was the inspiration behind a bigger project where we took 50 at-risk teens from Redding Pennsylvania, we brought them to Kutztown University over a 64-hour program.
- 36:21Hayden Craddolph: Johnny Ray Gill from NBC flew out and helped us co-produce it and we worked with the students over eight weeks and we created a $10,000 scholarship for students.
- 36:31Hayden Craddolph: That created a public service announcement to reduce youth violence, domestic violence, chemical abuse, things of that nature, and we taught them how to tell those stories and we were really proud of that project.
- 36:43Hayden Craddolph: Yes, we're looking to do more of those projects and that's part of more of our community-based programming.
- 36:52Carmen Lezeth: I'm going to switch gears for a moment and ask you this how would?
- 36:56Carmen Lezeth: This has nothing to do with your organization at the moment, but what would you tell someone who is just starting out and wants to be a filmmaker?
- 37:05Carmen Lezeth: What would you tell them should be the first thing they should concentrate on or do, or what are the next steps?
- 37:12Hayden Craddolph: Well, that's a good question.
- 37:13Hayden Craddolph: So there's obviously two main paths, right?
- 37:16Hayden Craddolph: So path number one is being passionate picking up a camera.
- 37:23Hayden Craddolph: A lot of people are like, oh, I don't know what to do.
- 37:26Hayden Craddolph: As soon as you pick up a camera and get your friends in a living room and start teaching them how to do a scene, you're a director.
- 37:33Hayden Craddolph: So, my first thing is pick up a camera as early as humanly possible and try to do some sort of project, whatever it is, but you obviously have the path to go to school right.
- 37:42Hayden Craddolph: You can do it the traditional way Temple University, NYU, DeSales University, USC.
- 37:54Hayden Craddolph: You could do the school route, or your phone, obviously.
- 37:56Hayden Craddolph: Or the second way is there's so many people that are good at business.
- 37:59Hayden Craddolph: You may have a good idea.
- 38:01Hayden Craddolph: You might not be the best writer, you might not be the best cinematographer.
- 38:05Hayden Craddolph: You're a great person who knows how to do business and that's what a producer does and you bring in all the right pieces to build a film project.
- 38:14Hayden Craddolph: So go to school.
- 38:16Hayden Craddolph: If that's your passion.
- 38:17Hayden Craddolph: Definitely it's very important.
- 38:19Hayden Craddolph: Or pick up a camera, surround yourself with some good people that are hungry and just do it okay, I keep hearing a small accent where I thought you were from pennsylvania I am from pennsylvania, but I moved around a little bit.
- 38:32Hayden Craddolph: Who knows what accent I picked up?
- 38:33Rick Costa: I look at the very, very beginning.
- 38:36Carmen Lezeth: You sounded southern, I was like he's from down south or something he said he said camera or something yeah he said it like what's his name, what's his?
- 38:47Carmen Lezeth: Tyler Perry says, scared and, like you know, like from down south my brother.
- 38:52Rick Costa: He was in the air force, so he had to move around a lot, and so his kid yeah, I was in ROTC air force ROTC.
- 38:58Hayden Craddolph: My dad was a marine, my grandfather was an army, my uncle was an army and all kinds of in the same family.
- 39:05Rick Costa: Wow, yeah yep yeah and you have to move around so your kids are going to pick up all kind of accents exactly exactly what is your plan for the future of the hayden institute?
- 39:18Carmen Lezeth: is that different from hayden films?
- 39:20Hayden Craddolph: so it's hayden films is one word.
- 39:21Hayden Craddolph: Hayden films is one word, just like lucasfilm.
- 39:22Hayden Craddolph: It's Hayden Films is one word.
- 39:23Hayden Craddolph: Hayden Films is one word, just like Lucasfilm, it's not two words Hayden Films.
- 39:26Carmen Lezeth: Just like Lucasfilms, people Haydenfilmsorg Okay.
- 39:33Hayden Craddolph: Haydenfilmsinstituteorg or just Hayden Films Institute.
- 39:36Carmen Lezeth: Okay, oh, so it's the same thing.
- 39:39Hayden Craddolph: Hayden Films Institute is our nonprofit organization.
- 39:41Hayden Craddolph: Hayden Films LLC was the original company 20 years ago, but it evolved into a nonprofit in 2011.
- 39:50Hayden Craddolph: It evolved.
- 39:51Carmen Lezeth: So what is the future?
- 39:52Carmen Lezeth: What is the future of this organization after this film festival?
- 39:56Carmen Lezeth: Are you going to do this every year Because you've been doing it, not every year?
- 40:00Hayden Craddolph: No, so it's not every year because there's a big technical component to it.
- 40:03Hayden Craddolph: However, so it's not every year because there's a big technical component to it.
- 40:06Hayden Craddolph: However, based on where we are now with Sembu and Hayden Films, we envision that we're going to be on a biannual basis.
- 40:12Hayden Craddolph: So last year we did our first screenplay competition, so we gave out our first prize for our winning best short screenplay.
- 40:21Hayden Craddolph: So after this festival, which will be the in-person festival, then, we're going to announce our screenplay competition that'll run for a year.
- 40:34Carmen Lezeth: Then we'll go back to the festival, so every year we're going to rotate.
- 40:35Carmen Lezeth: This is amazing.
- 40:35Carmen Lezeth: I didn't even know about the screenplay part.
- 40:36Hayden Craddolph: Yep.
- 40:37Hayden Craddolph: So we did a screenplay competition last year, which was our first one.
- 40:40Hayden Craddolph: So we're now on Hayden Films 5.0 for the festival.
- 40:44Hayden Craddolph: We just left Hayden Films 1.0 screenplay competition.
- 40:48Hayden Craddolph: So in January it's going to convert to the Hayden Films 2.0 screenplay competition, then Hayden Films 6.0, and then it'll keep going like that.
- 40:57Carmen Lezeth: This is what you do solidly, all day long, all day long.
- 41:01Hayden Craddolph: And then, of course, we have the other major program that we have is called the Hayden Films Agency.
- 41:07Hayden Craddolph: So the Hayden Films Agency is where we take a team of scholars, students and professionals, and so it's really this hybrid team.
- 41:16Hayden Craddolph: They do website development, they do social media management, they do graphic design you name it, they do it.
- 41:23Hayden Craddolph: They do video production, and so that's one of the things that happens to be one of the really good programs that we do, so small and medium sized companies, or even large companies, can have a real, true agency that's empowering students from all over the area to really do some great work.
- 41:41Hayden Craddolph: So, I just want you to know.
- 41:43Carmen Lezeth: You know what your screen is still sharing, not on the live stream, but in my corner.
- 41:49Hayden Craddolph: I don't know.
- 41:50Hayden Craddolph: I'm sorry.
- 41:51Carmen Lezeth: No, it's okay, Unless you don't want me to see no, no, no, I'm not sharing anything crazy.
- 41:56Carmen Lezeth: So, we can share your screen.
- 41:58Carmen Lezeth: I'm happy to do.
- 41:58Carmen Lezeth: Okay, what am I?
- 41:59Carmen Lezeth: What is this?
- 41:59Carmen Lezeth: That we're doing this?
- 42:00Hayden Craddolph: was the agency component.
- 42:02Hayden Craddolph: So, if there's, this is where we really do a great job working with students, mainly in the Northeast, but we have students like right now we have a student that's all the way out in Los Angeles with us.
- 42:13Carmen Lezeth: Oh, this is.
- 42:13Carmen Lezeth: I didn't call you, Do you?
- 42:14Hayden Craddolph: want me to show you this real quick.
- 42:17Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, wait, oh, you mean in between.
- 42:18Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, yeah, that would be so much easier because you can tell.
- 42:22Hayden Craddolph: I don't want to disrupt your show.
- 42:23Carmen Lezeth: It's only a minute and a half, but have you not realized that this show is all about you at the moment?
- 42:29Carmen Lezeth: I don't want it to be all about me.
- 42:32Carmen Lezeth: You'll have to come back and just hang out on the show because I adore you now.
- 42:37Carmen Lezeth: But I'm always suspicious of when people ask to be on the show and I don't know them.
- 42:42Hayden Craddolph: Yeah.
- 42:42Carmen Lezeth: But you're cool.
- 42:43Carmen Lezeth: Now You're vetted, I'm good, awesome, okay, so explain again what you're showing, because remember what you're about to see You're going to play this in a second.
- 42:51Hayden Craddolph: So this is where you're going to see our students.
- 42:54Hayden Craddolph: This was a by-product of the Youth Media Initiative that we talked about earlier.
- 42:58Hayden Craddolph: When we did that program, where we helped the 50 at-risk teens, there was a company Berks Women in Crisis that knew about all the stuff that we were doing.
- 43:09Hayden Craddolph: They said, hey, you're always doing this really high quality video projects for yourself.
- 43:12Hayden Craddolph: Can you do a project for us?
- 43:14Hayden Craddolph: And our students were like man, we should create our own in-house agency.
- 43:18Hayden Craddolph: So then that was the birth of the agency arm in 2020, where we have students and we probably had about 50 students over the last 10 years that really do great work and they're not going out and getting dry cleaning or coffee runs.
- 43:32Carmen Lezeth: They're actually doing this work.
- 43:33Carmen Lezeth: Are you going to show this on the screen.
- 43:35Hayden Craddolph: I'll show it right now you ready?
- 43:36Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, this is our students in action and this is what we do with them.
- 43:40Hayden Craddolph: Right now, you ready.
- 43:43@Haydenfilms: Welcome to Hayden Films.
- 43:44@Haydenfilms: Here we elevate your brand through our passion and creativity, with messaging that is effective in growing your business, with our unique perspective, because everyone has a story to tell and we want to come along for the show.
- 43:57@Haydenfilms: Today is the day to elevate your brand to new heights because your brand is a part of you.
- 44:05@Haydenfilms: Today is the day to elevate your brand to new heights because your brand is a part of you.
- 44:08@Haydenfilms: No project is too small or too big, so why don't you bring your story to life?
- 44:13@Haydenfilms: We provide you personalized attention with a team of scholars, students and professionals who are ready to get the job done.
- 44:22@Haydenfilms: Connect with your audience on a deeper level through a professionally built website that beautifully illustrates what your brand is all about.
- 44:30@Haydenfilms: Social media allows you to reach a wider audience and is essential for any brand or business.
- 44:36@Haydenfilms: Lastly, our professional video production services will take your business to new heights, heights that it has never been before.
- 44:46@Haydenfilms: So what are you waiting for?
- 44:58Hayden Craddolph: So that was a byproduct.
- 45:00Hayden Craddolph: So the festival led to a community project, which led to the agency, which also was also the inspiration for Sembu.
- 45:09Hayden Craddolph: So the agency and Sembu really were byproducts of the work that we did for the festival.
- 45:16Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, rick, isn't, adam one of your people.
- 45:18Rick Costa: Yes, yes.
- 45:19Carmen Lezeth: He's asking who's the guest.
- 45:22@Haydenfilms: You have to watch from the beginning.
- 45:27Carmen Lezeth: He's watching on his phone.
- 45:28Rick Costa: I can't see, too small for my eyes I like the video, the music in the video, because it makes you like transit first this is going to be exciting, check us out.
- 45:35Rick Costa: And then it transitions like oh, this is more focused now, and then it gets to more, this is gonna be deep it's very film well done.
- 45:41Carmen Lezeth: It's very george lucas-y.
- 45:44Rick Costa: I had a question going backwards about the voting.
- 45:47Rick Costa: It's closed now.
- 45:49Hayden Craddolph: Yeah it's closed now.
- 45:51Rick Costa: But you said you have to at least watch five videos, correct.
- 45:53Rick Costa: And then, once that happens, is there like a separate page to vote on?
- 45:57Hayden Craddolph: No.
- 45:58Hayden Craddolph: So it's like a little.
- 45:59Hayden Craddolph: You have to follow the rules.
- 46:01Hayden Craddolph: They're underneath the films and it walks you through the process, step one, step two.
- 46:06Hayden Craddolph: It's like a rating that you would see on amccom or on the rating mechanism that you would see on, like netflix, where you would already see it activated.
- 46:16Hayden Craddolph: But it's that same kind of thing where you would hover over the stars and activate the boat okay, I watch a guy.
- 46:23Rick Costa: He does a daily youtube show for half an hour but then he goes.
- 46:27Rick Costa: Now we're going to transition over into my private server and that's where you go see the good stuff.
- 46:32Hayden Craddolph: Youtube may not want you to know or see or whatever, so using Cemboo, you could do something like that you can, and the great thing about it is you would be able to upload all your content now again, of course, we're not looking for any type of and I'll just say it, and it sounds dirty, but we're not looking to partner with porn companies or anyone that's doing anything that's bizarre and crazy.
- 46:54Hayden Craddolph: We want to partner with sports companies, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, sports people, podcasters.
- 47:02Carmen Lezeth: But Rick's people are.
- 47:03Carmen Lezeth: I'm just laughing, because Rick's people are religious people rightters, but Rick's people are.
- 47:06Carmen Lezeth: I'm just laughing, because Rick's people are religious people right.
- 47:07Hayden Craddolph: Religious people is perfect.
- 47:08Hayden Craddolph: No, it's ideal for anyone that wants to do virtual live streams for congregations or if they want to do something for their parishioners, this is ideal.
- 47:19Carmen Lezeth: Okay, hayden, you know that you keep putting this in the private chat.
- 47:22Carmen Lezeth: No, it's okay, rick.
- 47:24Carmen Lezeth: Am I the only one who has access to the regular chat?
- 47:26Carmen Lezeth: Yes, okay, so it's okay, I'm putting it in there.
- 47:30Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, the only reason I put that link in there is that, again, for the tickets, we would love to have you guys and your listeners.
- 47:38Hayden Craddolph: It's a three-day event red carpet experience on Friday.
- 47:42Hayden Craddolph: Saturday, we're going to have workshops all day long.
- 47:45Hayden Craddolph: We're going to be shooting.
- 47:47Hayden Craddolph: We're going to be at Alvernia University in Reading where we're going to shoot little three-minute sizzle reels for companies that want to attend.
- 47:54Hayden Craddolph: We're going to do photography for new LinkedIn photos.
- 47:57Hayden Craddolph: If you want, you get to watch all types of panel discussions on Saturday, and then Sunday you get to see all the films on the big screen at the Miller Center and then, of course, you get to participate in an award ceremony and there's gonna be food and snacks throughout the weekend and everything of that nature as well.
- 48:14Carmen Lezeth: I'm so proud of myself.
- 48:16Carmen Lezeth: I see that Ticker at the bottom.
- 48:18Carmen Lezeth: If you wanna get the tickets, it's right there, it's filmfreewaycom.
- 48:23Carmen Lezeth: Forward slash Hayden Films.
- 48:25Carmen Lezeth: Forward slash tickets.
- 48:27Rick Costa: Yep.
- 48:27Rick Costa: Another way I could see this being used too is if somebody wants to like, do courses, be like.
- 48:32Rick Costa: Of course, here's our free course, but if you want further education, sign up for this, and this is how much it costs, and you can watch all our videos or whatever.
- 48:39Carmen Lezeth: You know who this would be great for.
- 48:40Carmen Lezeth: It'd be great for Andrea.
- 48:41Carmen Lezeth: We'll have to let her.
- 48:42Carmen Lezeth: She's one of the people that comes to and hangs out too, and her whole consulting business they could totally use something like this.
- 48:51Hayden Craddolph: We have an author and a consultant that's using Sembu right now.
- 48:54Hayden Craddolph: He's written a book.
- 48:55Hayden Craddolph: He has a series of 10 videos, a 10 part series, that you can purchase for $25 a year, and so you can and again, distribution your way.
- 49:04Hayden Craddolph: Every single person that either has a VOD library wants to create a VOD library or a live stream library can leverage Sembu.
- 49:12Hayden Craddolph: And we're not saying leave your social media, we're not saying leave YouTube, but use those products as ancillary, start bringing everything back to you versus video on demand.
- 49:26Hayden Craddolph: You could do one time subscription exactly and you can do pre-roll ads, mid-roll, post-roll, you can do banner campaigns, everything that's pretty talk.
- 49:36Hayden Craddolph: Maybe we can work with you guys and get you access to the software so you can test it out for us no, I'm totally.
- 49:43Carmen Lezeth: This was not what I was expecting.
- 49:45Carmen Lezeth: I have to be honest with you.
- 49:46Hayden Craddolph: Well, no, you were saying, oh, this guy's late.
- 49:48Hayden Craddolph: He's running late and I do apologize, I was dodging the raindrops, I'm like I'm running up the stairs.
- 49:54Carmen Lezeth: No, no, here's the thing.
- 49:56Carmen Lezeth: Look at, aiden, I don't know how many live streams you do, but I do them weekly.
- 50:01Carmen Lezeth: We're in our second year, right, rick?
- 50:02Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, rick does daily.
- 50:04Carmen Lezeth: He does a daily show.
- 50:06Carmen Lezeth: Next month will be nine years, every single day.
- 50:12Carmen Lezeth: He's been doing it nine years, all right, all right.
- 50:13Carmen Lezeth: So for me, what's really interesting is that in this whole process is a lot of people will say they want to be on the show, and I'm very selective because if there's no connection for me, there's no way for me to, and also, I work a 40, 50 hour a week job, right?
- 50:33Carmen Lezeth: So many people will say they want to be on the show and then they don't.
- 50:34Carmen Lezeth: Like, your person responded to every question I had, was on point.
- 50:37Carmen Lezeth: So I was like, okay, he's going to make it.
- 50:38Carmen Lezeth: But when it's five minutes of and I was like I told that brother to be here 10 minutes early I was like he ain't going to be on the show.
- 50:45Carmen Lezeth: I already know it.
- 50:46Rick Costa: I know we were like what are we going to talk about now?
- 50:48Rick Costa: He ain't going to show up.
- 50:50Hayden Craddolph: It's crazy, because I was in front of my computer like 11 up and I'm just reading some of the notes.
- 50:55Hayden Craddolph: Real quick I said, oh shoot, I got to hit the button.
- 50:59Carmen Lezeth: No, this is great and you're talk to you too.
- 51:01Rick Costa: I mean, it's just, I saw something because of course, we try to research everybody and there was a mention that, a movie that really impacted you, which I then watched and I was like, wow, the aviator with yeah, what's his name?
- 51:14Rick Costa: Leonardo dicaprio.
- 51:16Rick Costa: Yes, yeah wow.
- 51:18Hayden Craddolph: First of all, the aviator.
- 51:19Hayden Craddolph: It's a sleeper film and it's one of my favorite sleeper films out there.
- 51:25Hayden Craddolph: Not a lot of people talk about it.
- 51:26Hayden Craddolph: I think it's very similar to Shawshank Redemption.
- 51:29Hayden Craddolph: It's one of those kind of like films that's so good but it's like very eclectic.
- 51:33Hayden Craddolph: But I would strongly recommend people to watch the aviator if you haven't seen it.
- 51:37Rick Costa: Yeah, cause to me he was like tell me again, I can't do it.
- 51:46Hayden Craddolph: Tell me again I can't do it, and why exactly?
- 51:48Hayden Craddolph: No, he persevered.
- 51:48Hayden Craddolph: He did hell's angels, which was the first silent film, and then he had to reshoot it, put sound onto it.
- 51:50Hayden Craddolph: Obviously he was a little eclectic, but it's a good film, yeah, yeah okay, I have.
- 51:56Carmen Lezeth: We're gonna have some questions.
- 51:57Carmen Lezeth: We're gonna do the bravo questions.
- 51:59Carmen Lezeth: Wait, did you want to say anything else, hayden, about Sembo?
- 52:03Carmen Lezeth: I actually really like the idea of Sembo.
- 52:07Hayden Craddolph: I think I might be able to use it yeah, like I said, if you want to do a formal demo where I'm not just bouncing all over, I walk you through everything, we would love to have you guys as a use case partner, because what you guys are doing is great.
- 52:20Hayden Craddolph: I love your show, I love the conversation, I like the sit down stoop environment that you've created.
- 52:25Hayden Craddolph: This is a great show.
- 52:26Hayden Craddolph: But again, last but not least, sembu is going to store everything.
- 52:30Hayden Craddolph: If you want to cut up the content later on micro content for social, and we're going to have different functionality where you can.
- 52:36Carmen Lezeth: Well, I just paid a whole lot of money.
- 52:38Carmen Lezeth: Okay, let's talk about this for a moment, though, because this is interesting to me, for a regular person who has a small business and I have my trademark All About the Joy, whatever.
- 52:47Carmen Lezeth: This is a real thing I'm doing, it's not a pretend thing.
- 52:50Carmen Lezeth: And we also have merch at allaboutthejoycom.
- 52:52Carmen Lezeth: I'm throwing that in there too, but what happens is Restream will only hold it.
- 52:57Carmen Lezeth: I know, right, we have cups, and Restream will only hold your videos for so long, and then they drop it.
- 53:04Carmen Lezeth: It's like you have it for 15 days, so I download the entire video, but now I had to buy another terabyte of cloud space in order to store it, and here's the thing that happens.
- 53:17Carmen Lezeth: Then I have to download it again when I'm cutting it up, so I have like multiple.
- 53:20Carmen Lezeth: It gets very confusing for me.
- 53:22Carmen Lezeth: So there's a part of it that feels like I could just store it with you and it can also just be on my website at the same time.
- 53:31Carmen Lezeth: Exactly.
- 53:32Hayden Craddolph: Exactly.
- 53:32Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, we should talk afterwards.
- 53:35Hayden Craddolph: Why don't we set up a formal demo?
- 53:39Hayden Craddolph: You will save yourself at least two of those steps for sure, At least two of those steps that you don't really want to.
- 53:46Hayden Craddolph: And if this, if your our stream has RT PMT which I believe it does it's going to push right into Sembu and it'll store it automatically for you, so you're not going to have to upload, and all that other you'll skip like two steps.
- 53:59Carmen Lezeth: Right, but then also people will have access to the entire live stream, not just on YouTube, but they'll have it on my website and I'll have it on my website if I want to use it and do clips or whatever.
- 54:11Hayden Craddolph: Exactly, and then you'll be able to create different playlists.
- 54:13Hayden Craddolph: You'll be able to create different playlists of the long form content If you want to cut it up.
- 54:19Carmen Lezeth: Cynthia said it earlier, she's sold Because it's been one of my frustrations of spending so much money and then still being all over the place.
- 54:27Carmen Lezeth: But okay, cool, all right, we'll talk later about that, but all right, what is your favorite word?
- 54:34Hayden Craddolph: what is my favorite word um?
- 54:36Carmen Lezeth: we're we're doing this in honor of the action studio track speed.
- 54:42Hayden Craddolph: What is it Track speed?
- 54:45Carmen Lezeth: I don't even know what that means.
- 54:47Hayden Craddolph: That's my favorite word, it's a conjunction Track speed like running track speed.
- 54:51Hayden Craddolph: I'll say, come on, let's go track speed.
- 54:52Hayden Craddolph: So that's my favorite little catchphrase Track speed.
- 54:55Hayden Craddolph: Let's like a hustle, let's go.
- 54:58Carmen Lezeth: Oh, okay, so made up words.
- 55:00Carmen Lezeth: Okay, you asked for a favorite words.
- 55:02Carmen Lezeth: I'm giving you a favorite word.
- 55:03Carmen Lezeth: I learned a word today.
- 55:05Carmen Lezeth: I love it.
- 55:06Hayden Craddolph: I'm giving you Hayden on.
- 55:07Hayden Craddolph: Hayden isms Hayden.
- 55:10Carmen Lezeth: No, he did not just say that Hayden ism like Carmen isms Rick, what's your word?
- 55:15Rick Costa: Love.
- 55:17Hayden Craddolph: Yeah.
- 55:18Carmen Lezeth: Okay, that's a good one.
- 55:18Carmen Lezeth: Mine is joy.
- 55:19Carmen Lezeth: Everyone knows my joy.
- 55:20Hayden Craddolph: I love it, but anyways, backspeed.
- 55:22Hayden Craddolph: I know it's two words, but no.
- 55:25Carmen Lezeth: I'm making it like one word now Track speed.
- 55:27Carmen Lezeth: Come on, let's hustle.
- 55:28Carmen Lezeth: I'm going to use it tomorrow at work.
- 55:29Carmen Lezeth: Okay, what is your least favorite word?
- 55:33Hayden Craddolph: Oh man, you're killing me with these questions, cause I don't like the word moist.
- 55:41Carmen Lezeth: Moist, can I tell you that is a weird one, because I don't know why.
- 55:47Carmen Lezeth: Is it the word itself or the connotation of it?
- 55:51Hayden Craddolph: A combination of two just the word moist and a connotation, it's just.
- 55:56Rick Costa: I don't know.
- 55:57Hayden Craddolph: It's painful for some reason.
- 55:58Carmen Lezeth: It came actually from.
- 55:59Carmen Lezeth: Somebody in the actor's studio said it, and it's become like a thing.
- 56:03Carmen Lezeth: It's a famous, I forget which one, but that's where that came from.
- 56:07Carmen Lezeth: Rick, what's your least favorite word?
- 56:09Carmen Lezeth: Can't?
- 56:09Carmen Lezeth: And it's become like a thing.
- 56:10Rick Costa: It's a famous, I forget which one but that's where that came from.
- 56:12Carmen Lezeth: Rick, what's your least favorite word?
- 56:14Carmen Lezeth: Can't?
- 56:14Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, mine is no.
- 56:14Carmen Lezeth: Don't tell me no.
- 56:15Carmen Lezeth: You know what I mean.
- 56:16Carmen Lezeth: Don't tell me no.
- 56:16Carmen Lezeth: All right, what turns you on?
- 56:19Hayden Craddolph: Passion.
- 56:20Hayden Craddolph: I love passionate people.
- 56:23Hayden Craddolph: I love seeing passion.
- 56:26Hayden Craddolph: I love it pouring out of someone.
- 56:27Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, I can see it immediately.
- 56:29Hayden Craddolph: If you have passion, it's just I can totally see it too.
- 56:32Carmen Lezeth: You know you have that right.
- 56:33Carmen Lezeth: You got passion.
- 56:34Hayden Craddolph: I hope so.
- 56:35Hayden Craddolph: Thank you for saying that.
- 56:36Hayden Craddolph: I'm just, it's one of my biggest.
- 56:37Hayden Craddolph: I'm passionate and if I see someone have passion, it's pretty pretty good, pretty cool Rick.
- 56:45Rick Costa: Besides Linda Carter.
- 56:46Carmen Lezeth: No.
- 56:48Hayden Craddolph: Okay.
- 56:49Carmen Lezeth: Okay.
- 56:49Carmen Lezeth: Wonder Woman All right, that's what turns you on.
- 56:53Carmen Lezeth: Okay, is that your answer?
- 56:54Carmen Lezeth: We can go with that.
- 56:56Rick Costa: Possibilities.
- 56:57Carmen Lezeth: Oh, possibilities.
- 56:58Carmen Lezeth: Okay, Minus kindness.
- 57:00Carmen Lezeth: I know that's weird, but I love when I see someone being kind to somebody else.
- 57:05Carmen Lezeth: I really get so happy.
- 57:06Carmen Lezeth: It's dorky, but it's true.
- 57:07Carmen Lezeth: I really thought about that.
- 57:09Carmen Lezeth: Okay, what turns you off?
- 57:12Hayden Craddolph: I think giving up because I'm an entrepreneur there's no giving up in entrepreneurship.
- 57:17Hayden Craddolph: You have to grind it, you have to work hard, and I just think we're in this world where you see so many people right on the edge of turning something into something positive, but then they just throw up their hands and give up.
- 57:31Carmen Lezeth: So it's hard though it's hard, though I get tired, I have to tell you sometimes I'm like you know what?
- 57:40Carmen Lezeth: And I'll tell Rick, I, I sometimes I'm like I just I come home, I run home Thursday night and I take a shower and then I come on and I'm trying to be happy, but it's hard to keep wanting to do the thing you want to do.
- 57:53Carmen Lezeth: Like I'm jealous of you in a good way though, Cause you get, you're inspiring me because you're doing this, you're doing something you love and it's on all these different parts and it's helping other people and it's just awesomeness Like I love it.
- 58:06Carmen Lezeth: So I'm inspired by you.
- 58:08Carmen Lezeth: Alma just said can't stand learned helplessness.
- 58:11Carmen Lezeth: We're going to have to dig deep on that next time you're on the show, alma.
- 58:15Carmen Lezeth: That's a good one, rick.
- 58:17Carmen Lezeth: What turns you off?
- 58:19Rick Costa: Arrogance.
- 58:22Carmen Lezeth: Mine is bullies.
- 58:23Carmen Lezeth: I hate a bully.
- 58:25Carmen Lezeth: Okay, what sound or noise do you love?
- 58:30Hayden Craddolph: All right, so you're pulling out.
- 58:32Carmen Lezeth: All this is from the bull I said to you no, no, no, you're listening.
- 58:36Carmen Lezeth: Good, you have had a week.
- 58:40Hayden Craddolph: All right.
- 58:41Hayden Craddolph: So this is now.
- 58:42Hayden Craddolph: You could just say baby's crying, so there was an episode I'm obsessed with light speed, Okay.
- 58:49Hayden Craddolph: So it's like this weird thing that because that's you know, I love the universe.
- 58:53Hayden Craddolph: So the sound of light speed when they depict it in the history channel, it's like, so anything that has light speed you know the Millennium Falcon going through light, you know the Enterprise, Starship Enterprise I just like the sound of like like warp, drive, light speed.
- 59:09Hayden Craddolph: I just really enjoy that sound.
- 59:11Carmen Lezeth: I'm changing my answer.
- 59:12Carmen Lezeth: Wait a minute, light speed.
- 59:15Rick Costa: What's the scale between Star Wars like and Star Trek?
- 59:19Hayden Craddolph: Oh, in terms of the light speed.
- 59:20Rick Costa: No, your likability of the franchises, of the franchises, oh my likability, oh the franchises, oh.
- 59:24Hayden Craddolph: My likability, oh wow.
- 59:25Hayden Craddolph: So that's a good question.
- 59:26Hayden Craddolph: Obviously, star Wars is number one, but I'm old school with Star Trek.
- 59:33Hayden Craddolph: I really like the old school William Shatner versions and Leonard Nimoy ones.
- 59:38Hayden Craddolph: Rafa Khan Episode 2, is probably the greatest Star Wars Star Trek films of all time in my opinion, but I really do think that was some really good work on some of those projects.
- 59:48Hayden Craddolph: They got a little campy on episode, I think it was.
- 59:51Carmen Lezeth: Bubblegum, bubblegum Star.
- 59:53Hayden Craddolph: Trek.
- 59:53Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, exactly, bubblegum number three, search for Spock wasn't too bad.
- 59:57Hayden Craddolph: I think it was Coming Home.
- 59:58Hayden Craddolph: It was number four, but there was some good work in there.
- 1:00:00Hayden Craddolph: I mean Gene Roddenberry did a great job in terms of what he did in the 60s and really leveraged Star Trek to really bring out some really good opportunities to deal with social issues and everything that he did in that time frame.
- 1:00:14Hayden Craddolph: So I just like the Gene Roddenberry Star.
- 1:00:16Carmen Lezeth: Trek.
- 1:00:16Carmen Lezeth: We like you in general, so it's OK that you don't understand that Star Trek will always be better than Star Wars.
- 1:00:24Carmen Lezeth: No, it's definitely not better because you have a character, and Marvel is always better than DC Comics, absolutely not Superman's number one.
- 1:00:31Hayden Craddolph: You can't come on now.
- 1:00:32Hayden Craddolph: Listen, listen, I'm on the same team as Dr Henry.
- 1:00:35Rick Costa: Where would Star Wars be without Star Trek?
- 1:00:37Rick Costa: Because it was first, wasn't it?
- 1:00:38Hayden Craddolph: Exactly, that's true.
- 1:00:46Carmen Lezeth: Wait, have you seen 2001, A Space Odyssey?
- 1:00:48Hayden Craddolph: I did.
- 1:00:49Carmen Lezeth: Okay.
- 1:00:50@Haydenfilms: All right, you're in.
- 1:00:50@Haydenfilms: Of course he did.
- 1:00:51Hayden Craddolph: Of course I had to make sure.
- 1:00:53Hayden Craddolph: Look it, trust me, I didn't miss that.
- 1:00:56Carmen Lezeth: Rick, you know that there are people I won't say who did not see it until I mentioned it to them.
- 1:01:02Hayden Craddolph: The first 45 minutes people are like what are we watching?
- 1:01:04Hayden Craddolph: Why?
- 1:01:05Hayden Craddolph: First 45 minutes?
- 1:01:05Hayden Craddolph: People are like what are we watching?
- 1:01:07Hayden Craddolph: Why are we just watching this, these, the silent, what's going on here?
- 1:01:08Carmen Lezeth: no, it was.
- 1:01:09Carmen Lezeth: It's brilliant, especially as you get older and you really appreciate it first of all, space odyssey 2001.
- 1:01:14Hayden Craddolph: That's a film you got to bring out every five to ten years.
- 1:01:17Carmen Lezeth: You do you got to bring?
- 1:01:18Hayden Craddolph: it back out.
- 1:01:19Hayden Craddolph: It's gonna affect you differently.
- 1:01:20Hayden Craddolph: That's right.
- 1:01:21Hayden Craddolph: Different point of view and how you've grown through the universe yeah, and it was man.
- 1:01:27Carmen Lezeth: Alma don't count when it comes to this.
- 1:01:31Carmen Lezeth: No, he's on marvel, so she's perfectly correct on the marvel thing.
- 1:01:36Hayden Craddolph: So yeah well, I don't know.
- 1:01:37Hayden Craddolph: They've had a couple strange films, the last few.
- 1:01:40Carmen Lezeth: They finally recovered with the big comic wolverine, really you want?
- 1:01:45Hayden Craddolph: Well, I mean at least it finally got an audience back in the seats, because I don't know what was going on there for a minute.
- 1:01:51Carmen Lezeth: I am looking forward to seeing the Christopher Reeve documentary, though oh, I am Actually I just think it was at AMC yesterday, Was it really?
- 1:02:01Hayden Craddolph: I definitely want to see it for sure.
- 1:02:02Carmen Lezeth: I definitely want to see that too.
- 1:02:03Hayden Craddolph: Maybe we should all see it and then talk about it, cause that's, that'd be great.
- 1:02:07Hayden Craddolph: He's the original Superman.
- 1:02:08Carmen Lezeth: In my opinion, he is the only Superman In my opinion.
- 1:02:11Carmen Lezeth: I saw that movie 19 times 19.
- 1:02:14Hayden Craddolph: I remember I went 19 times three and four.
- 1:02:18Hayden Craddolph: I don't know what they were doing with those two.
- 1:02:19Hayden Craddolph: Those don't exist.
- 1:02:20Carmen Lezeth: It's only one, he was number one best it's such a tragedy of a anyways.
- 1:02:25Carmen Lezeth: Okay, we won't go down that road because we're almost done with the show.
- 1:02:27Carmen Lezeth: Lois goes.
- 1:02:29Carmen Lezeth: You're holding me.
- 1:02:29Carmen Lezeth: Who's holding you?
- 1:02:30Carmen Lezeth: Exactly exactly right.
- 1:02:32Carmen Lezeth: What is your favorite curse word?
- 1:02:34Carmen Lezeth: You don't have to say it, you can just use the first letter I use a different curse word.
- 1:02:39Hayden Craddolph: I have a weird curse word okay, go ahead.
- 1:02:42Hayden Craddolph: I'm gonna say it, I'm gonna, I'm gonna really hopefully I don't lose any fans over this one, so I don't.
- 1:02:47Hayden Craddolph: I try not to curse, I curse it more in my private life.
- 1:02:51Hayden Craddolph: I try to curse in my private life.
- 1:02:54Carmen Lezeth: I never curse in front of my brother or something like that.
- 1:02:56Hayden Craddolph: But when I'm in the office I try not to curse in front of my students and my team and everything like that.
- 1:03:01Hayden Craddolph: But a word I use instead of a curse word is illiterate.
- 1:03:06@Haydenfilms: So if you use illiterate you're like oh that person can't read or write, and I just say that freaking illiterate.
- 1:03:15Hayden Craddolph: So I want to say something.
- 1:03:16Hayden Craddolph: I'm like that person's illiterate.
- 1:03:17Hayden Craddolph: Instead of calling them one of the harsher words, I just use the word illiterate.
- 1:03:20Hayden Craddolph: That's kind of like another Hadanisms.
- 1:03:24Carmen Lezeth: Hadanisms?
- 1:03:25Carmen Lezeth: I can't believe you're saying Haydenisms.
- 1:03:26Carmen Lezeth: Okay, Rick, what's your?
- 1:03:34Rick Costa: is it, darn Rick?
- 1:03:35Rick Costa: Don't swear at all.
- 1:03:36Rick Costa: It would be crap.
- 1:03:36Carmen Lezeth: But even that some people have a problem with you shouldn't say that, right, yeah, although I've called him a couple of times, he says he didn't.
- 1:03:39Carmen Lezeth: We've had a couple of debates where you did swear, but then you said you didn't, I did yeah, we're not going to talk about it now.
- 1:03:45Carmen Lezeth: I say mother flower, I say the B-I-T-C-H word.
- 1:03:51Carmen Lezeth: I'm from the street, I'm going to say it.
- 1:03:54Hayden Craddolph: I say those words.
- 1:03:55Hayden Craddolph: I say those words, I'm not going to front.
- 1:03:57Carmen Lezeth: I ain't even going to play it.
- 1:03:58Carmen Lezeth: They come out, they come out.
- 1:03:59Carmen Lezeth: Okay, what have two more?
- 1:04:02Carmen Lezeth: Okay, what profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
- 1:04:07Hayden Craddolph: To attempt, meaning that I never attempted.
- 1:04:10Carmen Lezeth: If you weren't doing what you're doing now, which is something that you love, what would you be doing?
- 1:04:21Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, obviously.
- 1:04:22Hayden Craddolph: When I graduated from college I was a pretty decent track runner, so I had some track records and everything like that.
- 1:04:25Hayden Craddolph: So I would, in another life I would like to be a collegiate track coach that I really have passion for that.
- 1:04:31Hayden Craddolph: It's just that the business world pays a little bit better than coaching sometimes, depending on what level you have.
- 1:04:37Hayden Craddolph: So definitely wouldn't mind being a track coach.
- 1:04:40Hayden Craddolph: Or I'm really super, super passionate about space travel and all that stuff.
- 1:04:46Hayden Craddolph: Science and NASA would be pretty cool too.
- 1:04:48Hayden Craddolph: So track it.
- 1:04:50Carmen Lezeth: Rick, what you got.
- 1:04:54Rick Costa: Possibly one thing, and I'm not saying it because you're here, carmen, but just I don't know if I would suck or not, but maybe, acting, try it.
- 1:05:02Carmen Lezeth: I know we've talked about that.
- 1:05:03Carmen Lezeth: I know that would be fun for you.
- 1:05:05Rick Costa: I think something else that could be interesting.
- 1:05:07Rick Costa: I'm thinking like Daniel Jackson kind of way, like an archaeologist type person.
- 1:05:11Carmen Lezeth: That's cool, oh cool, like from Stargate SG-1.
- 1:05:14Carmen Lezeth: Daniel Jackson, in case people didn't know what you meant by that, have you seen Stargate SG-1, hayden?
- 1:05:22Hayden Craddolph: Just a little bit of it.
- 1:05:27Carmen Lezeth: That is one, one program.
- 1:05:28Carmen Lezeth: He's really cool, and then the things that he likes makes him not cool.
- 1:05:32Rick Costa: Do you know?
- 1:05:33Carmen Lezeth: what I mean.
- 1:05:34Carmen Lezeth: It's so weird.
- 1:05:35Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, I know, and we're a huge Stargate SG one fans too on the show.
- 1:05:38Carmen Lezeth: So for me, I wish I could sing, if I could have done anything, and I wish I cannot say I could sing, but it would hurt everyone.
- 1:05:46Carmen Lezeth: But I wish I had a voice like Whitney Houston and that would have been what I wish I could do.
- 1:05:53Carmen Lezeth: I love singing.
- 1:05:54Carmen Lezeth: Okay, last one If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates and just go with it?
- 1:06:02Hayden Craddolph: Great job.
- 1:06:03Hayden Craddolph: Really Okay, Rick because hopefully he sees that I made a difference in the world while I was here.
- 1:06:12Carmen Lezeth: You know what?
- 1:06:12Carmen Lezeth: Okay, go ahead, Rick, and then I'll say what my answer is.
- 1:06:15Rick Costa: There is a Bible verse that says well done thou good and faithful servant.
- 1:06:20Rick Costa: And yes, I would love to hear him say that, which is pretty much what Hayden said.
- 1:06:24Carmen Lezeth: I would love God to say that's the best you did.
- 1:06:27Carmen Lezeth: You need to go back.
- 1:06:28Carmen Lezeth: You need to go back, girl, Go back.
- 1:06:30Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:31Carmen Lezeth: That's what I want.
- 1:06:32Carmen Lezeth: Uh-uh, that was not good enough.
- 1:06:34Carmen Lezeth: Go back, go back Do it over Hell.
- 1:06:36Hayden Craddolph: Yeah, get it over Sure.
- 1:06:39Carmen Lezeth: Oh my God, this was so much fun.
- 1:06:41Hayden Craddolph: See what happens.
- 1:06:42Hayden Craddolph: What happens when I show up at nine o'clock sharp.
- 1:06:45Carmen Lezeth: No, it was.
- 1:06:46Carmen Lezeth: You were here on time.
- 1:06:47Carmen Lezeth: It was great, but you also are a great kind of fun.
- 1:06:49Carmen Lezeth: It's not hard for you to talk at all.
- 1:06:52Hayden Craddolph: No, I love talking and thanks for allowing me the opportunity to talk and for everyone that was out there that's listening or will watch this on replay come check us out on October 25th, 26th, 27th.

- 1:07:12Hayden Craddolph: Oh, please Bring me in.
- 1:07:13Carmen Lezeth: You can come on anytime.
- 1:07:14Carmen Lezeth: This was really fun and I would love for you to come back and talk to us after you have the in-person festival at the end of October and let us know who won and maybe we can have a little recap again and let us know who won, and maybe we can have a little recap again.
- 1:07:28Hayden Craddolph: And then, yeah, we'd like to introduce you to some of the filmmakers at that point for sure, maybe we'll be a winner on the show that would be fantastic.
- 1:07:34Carmen Lezeth: That'd be great.
- 1:07:34Carmen Lezeth: Okay, we're gonna be in touch.
- 1:07:35Carmen Lezeth: Yeah, I'm gonna cut this off because it is one for an hour and 15 minutes.
- 1:07:39Carmen Lezeth: We're in.
- 1:07:40Carmen Lezeth: I'm so excited.
- 1:07:41Carmen Lezeth: I want to thank everyone.
