- 0:00Hey, it's Dune here, your host and hype girl. Boy, oh boy, do I have some exciting stuff to share with you today. It's like really, really exciting. And you're about to start hearing me talk about this a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot.
- 0:17But before we jump into today's solo episode slash the last solo episode for the year for that matter, which, oh my gosh, that's just so crazy. I would love to ask you a super important favor.
- 0:31So there's a very simple thing that you can do to help someone else that you don't know at all, like a total stranger, a total stranger on the Internet. Someone just like you or just like me, who's trying to figure everything out, who's trying to hustle, who wants to build a brand or is building a brand and doing all the things.
- 0:52It takes less than 30 seconds and it's totally free. You've probably guessed what I'm getting at, but if not, what I'm asking for you to do is leave us a review.
- 1:04Every time you take a moment to leave us a review in the Apple podcast app, you send a message to the algorithm gods that this show is worth listening to. And it then recommends it to other ambitious women in progress, just like you and me. And come to think of it, maybe that's actually how some of you found us in the first place.
- 1:23So if you want to help a sister out and other sisters on the internet, just take a hot second to open up the Apple podcast app, go to our main feed, scroll all the way to the bottom, and that's where you can leave us a cute review. If you haven't seen this yet, we also post these reviews on our Instagram to say a big thank you. But just so you know, in case you already don't,
- 1:45I'm so grateful for each and every one of you who takes the time to download these episodes and pop me into your ears a few times a week. I still pinch myself every day that this is what I'm building with you and Female Startup Club just exists in the world. It's so super cool to me. But that's all. That's all my ask is for the end of the year. But let's get into this episode so I can share this juicy update with you.
- 2:15Hi. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. I can't believe I can finally share this mega, mega news with you all. It feels really fitting to talk about this because it all starts at the same time last year when I was working through my goals for 2021. Yeah.
- 2:35If you've listened to our show for a while, you'll know I'm pretty big on goal setting. I usually set one big goal that's my kind of North Star for the year. And then obviously a bunch of smaller ones that, you know, all the classics, health, wellness, fitness, that kind of stuff. In 2020, my main goal was to publish 100 episodes of the show. And then I ticked that off the list on December 29, 2020. Okay.
- 3:01And then around that same time, I was putting my thinking cap on for the big things that I wanted to achieve this year in 2021. And on that list, my big goal was to publish Female Startup Club's very first book, very first book of many.
- 3:18And today I am so just over the moon and happy to share that I've received our final test version of our first book. And she is looking unbloody believable, like a solid 10 out of 10. I'm just so, so excited.
- 3:38The book is called Your Hyped Girl. And Your Hyped Girl is a compilation of all my favorite episodes from the show so far, distilled into quick chapters about the founder, her story, and the key lessons and learnings she's had from the journey so far.
- 3:56It's not your typical cover to cover book. It's in the same vibe as Tim Ferriss's Tools of Titans book, if you've read it. And the idea is that you pick it up, open it to any page and get a dose of inspiration. It's the kind of book you can totally read for pleasure, but you can also just have sticky notes and a highlighter and a pen to scribble on every page and take notes and return to later. The good kind.
- 4:20So that's kind of my exciting news. The launch date is early next year, around the end of February. The date is still TBC. And I am going to need all the support I can get from you in launch week.
- 4:36I'm building an army of ambassadors right now. So if you are keen, if you love Female Startup Club, if you love the women that come on this show, if you buy stuff from their brands, hit me up on email at hello at femalestartupclub.com. I will send you an advance copy and you can be part of our crew spreading the good word and getting the hype out there.
- 5:02Now, I also wanted to give you a quick update on the non-alc wine company. So let's start with this conversation that I had the other day. In Hype Club last week, one of our founders was sharing that they're feeling pretty low at the moment.
- 5:21about the R&D that they're going through right now with some of their formulas and, um, like development company or manufacturer, et cetera. Basically she knew the costs were super expensive and super high. And she kept saying to herself, well, you know, that's just what it is. That's what you get if you want to build a premium product and, you know, all that kind of stuff. And
- 5:47I think that's fair. I think that's probably true. I'm no expert. I haven't done it before. But she was explaining that as she continues to work on the numbers for production and like the packaging, factoring in things like shipping and everything that's really included in the cost of goods sold, it's just not working out. And so what I'm getting at, to be honest, is that I'm feeling the same, like really, really the same.
- 6:14When I'm looking at the breakdown of our cost of goods sold and versus kind of what we need to retail it out for it to make sense and the operations required to make this thing a reality, right now, as it currently is, we can't really justify it and find a way for it to make sense. And so maybe it's a combination of, you know, end of the year and everything.
- 6:38the kind of things that have happened in my life this year. But overall, I'm just feeling really weird about it. And maybe this is normal. Maybe everyone goes through this feeling at one point or another. I'm not sure. But a lot of what I've heard on the show from successful founders is that the numbers absolutely need to make sense. And there's also a lot to be
- 7:06The truth is that right now I'm just feeling a bit lost with it all and it's not feeling so good. And it's not the like, well, it's feeling stressful, I guess you would say. Not the good, exciting, like adrenaline stress that actually like pushes you forward and just gets you super hyped. It's like that pit of your stomach. This doesn't feel right stress that kind of is a bit off. Yeah.
- 7:32which I suppose is like a bit of a bummer to feel this way after working on it all year and being so excited. But with all of that in mind, the plan or my plan is just to take the next few weeks to mull over everything, go back to our initial goals, go back to that initial vision that we set for ourselves to see where we are now and how far we've like moved away from that.
- 7:58And what we could change to make it work and what we could do to simplify the complexity of everything moving forward. Because the further we get down this rabbit hole, the more complicated it's becoming. And I guess we just need to reassess for a hot second.
- 8:18I think for me, like I have a list of things that I wanted out of this brand and the things that were important to me. And, you know, like so many things, you basically get on the journey and you start learning and you start iterating and you have to start compromising on what stays on that list and what gets put on the back burner. Yeah.
- 8:37But at the end of the day, if you're moving further and further and further away from that initial vision and you're kind of sacrificing again and again, I think you need to take a step back and ask yourself if this is still something that's right for you.
- 8:55So that's how I'm thinking about everything right now. That's what I'm going to be spending the next few weeks doing. We just arrived back into Switzerland. I plan to just sit in nature and do some deep thinking to get clear on the direction of the brand.
- 9:11what our mission is and what my goals for it are and how we can kind of keep that aligned. So that's a quick update on the non-alc. It's not as exciting as the book, but I wanted to share with you guys how I'm feeling. And I don't know, it's just been a strange few weeks. So that's why you haven't heard a lot about the non-alc brand in recent times, but that's where I'm at with it.
- 9:35If you feel the same, if you've been through this, can you please send me a message? I need some...
- 9:42words of wisdom from other people who know this feeling. And yeah, there's obviously the camp of people who are just like, yep, just push through it. Who cares? Figure it out. But I'm not sure about that kind of route right now. I'm feeling a bit lost. So I would love to hear from anyone if you have some advice. I'm all about a calculated risk, not a risk that doesn't make sense. So
- 10:08If you have some advice, reach out, send me a DM, send me an email, whatever. I'd love to chat. I'd love to know where you're at or if you've been through this. And lastly, of course, I just wanted to wish everyone tuning in a happy Christmas or a happy Hanukkah or a happy however you celebrate this time of year with your loved ones and your family.
- 10:33I hope you're able to spend some time with the people who mean the most to you and bring you joy. I hope you can surround yourself with love and do the things that are good for the soul. Get out in nature, get some fresh air. If you're in Australia, get to the beach. If you're somewhere in the snow, get into the snow. I feel like
- 10:55This year has just been such a doozy. We all need some extra care and some peace in our lives. So I hope you're able to do that.
- 11:05For the next few weeks, we're going to be playing a roundup of our favorite episodes from this year. And then I'll be back in the new year with our regular programming and all the fun stuff. I am so excited for all the plans that we have in 2022 for Female Startup Club. And obviously the book, especially the book. I'm so excited. And it's all thanks to you. So a huge thank you. And I will see you soon. Bye.
