- 1:04to four figure discount, the very first podcast of us. Here at the
- 1:07four figure discount I worked for twenty twenty four and we're here with a bang.
- 1:11We're very, very excited because today we're going to be reviewing a classic
- 1:14episode all the way from season six of The Simpsons. It is Home of
- 1:18the Great. I am Dano and I am guy here with Dando the Great.
- 1:21It's trying to be very nice to be back here for another year,
- 1:23twenty twenty four. Man, I mean, just saying these year names is
- 1:30starting to do my head in my way. Well, I grew up in
- 1:33the seventies and eighties, and of course they were being a little nerd.
- 1:36I was watching sci fi movies or even seeing posters of science fiction movies,
- 1:40and they're always talking about the future, of the far flung future. And
- 1:42you know Blade Runner was twenty nineteen. I'm like, I'll never see that
- 1:47Wow flaning cos that's that movie Soil and Green. Yeah, it's like the
- 1:52year is twenty twenty two, the Earth basically sucks. I'm like, oh
- 1:56boy, that's that's the good. That's in the future too, twenty fifteen
- 2:00flying skateboards and a three D shark and everything. But the one that struck
- 2:05me this year there's a sort of classy cult B sci fi movie called A
- 2:08Boy and His Dog, and it's got a great post of taglines like the
- 2:12year is twenty twenty four a future you'll probably live to see. The future
- 2:16sucks in that one, as well as like, oh god, I'm still
- 2:20here. Well, I started watching T two yesterday, right. I bought
- 2:23it on four K because JB had their sale. By the way, I'm
- 2:24back on the physical media bandwagon. Yeah. I was like, because Nicol
- 2:29and I were looking for movies to watch on Netflix, and I was like,
- 2:30I'm gonna get a blue ray out and put it in, and we
- 2:32put in Deja Vu, oh, which i'd see it'd never opened. I
- 2:36was like, then's a Washington Zel. It seems like's gonna be good movie.
- 2:38Rebat. The description seems like it's right about Allie. We loved it,
- 2:40and I was like, oh, there's all these special features I can
- 2:44watch as well. I was like, that's right. You can hear what
- 2:46director Attorney Scott has to say about this movie while the movie's playing. I
- 2:49was like, oh, I missed this. And then now I've been going
- 2:52through and having I bought up a Blu rays because I like seven dollars each
- 2:54now because they're trying to clear them out at JBI. I find I'm like
- 2:58audio commentary, audio commentary, and the kids love the idea now, the
- 3:00novelty of opening it up, putting the disc in, they love it.
- 3:04I'm just like, I'm right back on the bandwagon again, hooray after you
- 3:07gave away or sold so many of them. I gave away a shitload of
- 3:10my Blu rays and dvdies to my sister's boyfriend, like many many before.
- 3:15I met Nicola right back now, and I'm like it makes my heart.
- 3:19I just can't. I don't want to think about it. It's like heartbreaking.
- 3:21I'm just like, what is he doing with them? Is he taking
- 3:24care of them? If you watching them? Haven't you? But yeah,
- 3:28so watching Tea too, and it's like, this is the nineteen ninety seven
- 3:31and I was like when the world like ended, and I was like,
- 3:35oh shit, I didn't realize they like James Cameron, this came out and
- 3:38what ninety one? You could have planned a little bit further in or do
- 3:40you think the fact that was close enough made it feel more like hitting home?
- 3:44I think I think that's the second. I think the ladder. Absolutely,
- 3:46yeah, Okay, it's like, look at it's not too far off.
- 3:51Clean up your act. But yeah, but you say twenty twenty four
- 3:53like it's reminding you of just oh yeah, I'm excited to be the best
- 3:59Christmas period. I'm excited for twenty twenty four. Like I've got so many
- 4:01ideas for this show and just I'm ready to go. Well cool, because
- 4:04I've got a few ideas as well. I doubt they'll be as good as
- 4:08yours, but still, well, we'll throw them out there and we'll just
- 4:12keep providing wonderful, wonderful content for the four Fingered Discount family. Yeah,
- 4:16exactly right. So every month and now at least once a month, we're
- 4:18going to be revisiting a classic episode of the show. So this week obviously
- 4:21help me the great probably make it the first podcast of every month, we'll
- 4:25be revisiting a classic. We're also got a bunch of great guest lined up
- 4:28for future episodes as well, joining us to review classic episode is going to
- 4:31be how of the Good Time? Of course, don't forget. We also
- 4:33do Going Down a south Park, which have just entered season four, and
- 4:36boy is it becoming the south Park that I remember. I was looking at
- 4:42the titles of their lives in season four It's like, oh, okay,
- 4:46yes, we are getting into strange new places or areas that you might consider
- 4:54controversial. Yeah. Yeah, So the first I want, the first episode
- 4:57I believe, is the Two Theories Tat's two thousand, which we're going to
- 4:59be we're recording chat we record this one actually, so if you like south
- 5:02Park, check out that as well, plus all the exclusive shows we do
- 5:04on our Patreon Talking someone Fowl speaking of the Hill tells a few drama and
- 5:09the movie guys, but homely great? Right, So is there any other
- 5:13way to describe his episode? But just great? It's just like it is
- 5:15just perfection. It's pretty good. It's one of the best episodes of all
- 5:21time. But yeah, look, certainly it is. I mean there's it's
- 5:25got all the hallmarks of what we call vintage Simpsons or classic Simpsons. Absolutely,
- 5:30and it's smack dab in that period of like I guess we call it
- 5:32the Golden Age, don't we got h Golden Era? Absolutely? I mean,
- 5:36you know, it's got home. We're in in a strange situation that,
- 5:40of course he rebels in too much and eventually sucks up. He learns
- 5:46a valuable life lesson. By the very end of it, You've got a
- 5:48fantastic guest. I love the episodes that incorporate as many characters as possible,
- 5:53and what they do here, they don't just do that, they do it
- 5:55in a way that you've never seen before. Like, yeah, characters that
- 5:57you would normally see engaging with each other, like for example, Hermann principal,
- 6:00Skinner, doctor Hibbitt, and Wigham characters they don't normally see together,
- 6:03but they're hanging out in this secret society. But I love the way they
- 6:05poke fun at the Freemasons, but just secret society in general, and how
- 6:11thick are they can be. They're like, this isn't working for us anymore.
- 6:13Let's change. Change our club. Well, yeah, I mean I'm
- 6:15always sucker for secret societies. I mean, and particularly ones that either hold
- 6:20the reigns of power or train people to hold the reins of power, or
- 6:25you know, like, all right, you're going to be helping us run
- 6:29the show eventually, so come on board. We'll show you how the world
- 6:31actually works. Because I don't know, I think people we're all becoming more
- 6:35and more conspiracy theorists as time goes by. I'm certainly not well maybe not
- 6:44conspiracy theorists, but I think you know, you're starting maybe people start to
- 6:46say, it's like there's a lot of really rich people who seem to be
- 6:51controlling things, but they seem to have a lot more sway over things,
- 6:56and it seems to be a point of view that's becoming more and more.
- 7:00I'm going to sort of, you know, leak into your social media cas.
- 7:01You just have to watch one video, as we've always said, you
- 7:03know, watched one thing on on YouTube, or click on one link on
- 7:08on x formerly known as Twitter. Who calls it that's what conspiracy theorists do.
- 7:13They watch videos on social media and they get they fall down the rabbit
- 7:15hole. Oh so it's just me. But you know, I mean when
- 7:18someone like like Elon Musk buys something like Twitter and says I'm going to rename
- 7:24it X and all this kind of I mean, that's essentially what we were
- 7:27just saying. It's like, I don't like the way this is working,
- 7:29so I'm going to take it and I'm going to change it. I think
- 7:30it was the fact that it was working. It was just like I wanted
- 7:32to make it my own. Well, let's think it was working. It
- 7:35was working just fine. It just wasn't work for him, and he had
- 7:39had the means to sort of say, well, how about I buy your
- 7:42precious new toy and turn it into and now it's all made, you can
- 7:46play with it occasionally. Just a rich guy with power essentially, And but
- 7:49we're seeing more and more of those, and they seem to becoming more and
- 7:51more heroic to a lot of people. I mean, I'm surprised at how
- 7:56many people like, really dig someone like Musk and say that guy's hero I
- 8:00mean, you've got just as many people saying it's a douche. But I
- 8:03don't know. I think in a world, in a world where you know,
- 8:07it seems like some things are going off the rails we look to there's
- 8:11got to be someone pulling the strings behind it, all right, it can't
- 8:13be all chaotic. So that's I think that's the appeal of something like or
- 8:18that lies at the base of the appeal of someone like Home of the Great.
- 8:20It's like, probably is some organization that's you know, someone's got to
- 8:22know something right or all just idiots overall, just idiots like the stone cut.
- 8:31Also the Homer twist I think was a really fun one as well,
- 8:33with him being the chosen one. A lot of the way they planted the
- 8:35seed earlier in the episode where most like and it's being foretold that there's a
- 8:39chosen one, I was like, a whatever. And then I remember watching
- 8:43this as a kid, going I didn't see that coming. I think when
- 8:46you're a little kids watching that, you're I mean, that's something that might
- 8:48slip by you. But I mean the more sort of stories you hear,
- 8:52the more TV you watch or movies you watch or whatever, it's like a
- 8:56plan to to seed there or it's like, oh, that's as we say.
- 9:01You know Chekhov's gun. You know you're introduced in the first act,
- 9:03that's going off on the third so it's nice to see that Homer becomes a
- 9:09chose one. But yeah, but I like that that's not that's a midpoint
- 9:13sort of turn or a midpoint revelation, and then you know, you've got
- 9:16a bit to play with it once he's got that, and that sort of
- 9:18sets up the valuable lesson as well that you know, yeah, it's fun
- 9:22to have power, but you know, having too many yes men around,
- 9:26you're having, you know, everyone at your beck and call can eventually become
- 9:31I don't know, kind of dull, kind of like the Michael Jackson theory
- 9:33where it's like he could have anything he ever want to, just go shopping
- 9:37and go, I want that, I want that, I want that,
- 9:39and he was so unfulfilled with life, which is why it basically he got
- 9:43addicted to painkillers because he just wants to numb the pain of just it was
- 9:46like people say that you can money can't buy everything, but it's like people
- 9:48who don't have money go, oh, yeah, it's easy for you to
- 9:50say that, but it's like you people who have money, and it's like
- 9:52they're not happy. That's true. I mean a lot of them anyway,
- 9:54Well, yeah, here's that's what they do with the money. That is
- 9:58true. His stories about people who you know, win absurd amounts of money
- 10:01in a lottery and they either blow it all really quickly or so like not
- 10:03as heavy as they do it. It was I was looking on Facebook today
- 10:07and time zones are funny. Everyone is celebrating New Years at different times,
- 10:13or you know, they're entering twenty twenty four at a slightly different time.
- 10:18And this person, I know, she was a journalist in Sydney, but
- 10:22she was originally from the UK and she decided to quit Sydney go back to
- 10:28where she grew up and she also works in the media. So I was
- 10:31like, a times are precarious. But she's saying, look, I'm not
- 10:35making nearly as much as I used to. I still sort of working things
- 10:37out, but having a lot less has made things so much simpler, you
- 10:41know, I made life so much easier for me and give me a lot
- 10:43more clarity and focus in life. Now, maybe that's her just being class
- 10:46hut full, but honestly, it makes a lot of sense to me because
- 10:48we've talked a lot in the past about you know, having too many options
- 10:52and how it can sort of going on Netflix. Yeah, exactly. It's
- 10:56been an hour flicking trying to find something. Yeah, spending ten minutes flicking
- 11:00three years, three or four kas. But the thing is, I've said
- 11:03to Nicol yesterday, what I like now with the kids is they put the
- 11:07disk in, they sit there and they watch the movie. It used to
- 11:09be the remotes in their hand. They knew they had to push one button.
- 11:11They can have the entire library at their disposal. Now it's they understand
- 11:15you put the disk in, you have to watch the whole disk, and
- 11:16then you take it out. I told him that once it's in, you're
- 11:18gonna watch the whole thing. And they sit there and they watch the whole
- 11:20thing. Their attention span is improving because they're not flicking. That's great maintain
- 11:24that hopefully physical media. Man. It also gives me two hour break during
- 11:31the day when I'm watching the kids. Over the fucking school holidays, Man,
- 11:33it's been hectic. How much longer is that when they go back to
- 11:37Ali start school for the first time in three weeks? I want to say
- 11:41it is and I'm like, I'm like nervous about it. Of course,
- 11:46he's not a little dude anymore. He's like he's going to school and he's
- 11:48going to be going every day, and I just hope he doesn't get bullied.
- 11:50And it's just cats in the cradle man. Yeah, Like, I
- 11:52just don't know. I don't think I'm going to cry, but I hope
- 11:54maybe I will. It probably will, It probably will, but I don't
- 11:58know. It's like I'm try to prepare him for it, but I just
- 12:01sort of prepare myself for it as well. That's very much the case.
- 12:03I mean, look, yes, says the man with no kids, but
- 12:07you know I've been around enough for enough families where yeah, it's very much
- 12:11a common thing that, yeah, you're worried about them, but you're also
- 12:13worried about yourself because you know, you're separating what has been a part of
- 12:18yourself from yourself. Yeah, Because sometimes it's like over the holidays here,
- 12:22it's just been watching two kids all the time because Nicholas been doing some work
- 12:26and it's just those two kids together all day. They get along, they
- 12:28know, they say that each other's best friend, but sometimes they've just had
- 12:31enough of each other, right, And I'm just like, ah, fucking
- 12:33our kids. And then I see like a thing on Facebook where it's like
- 12:35cherish the moments when their children. I'm like, oh, that's right,
- 12:39my children come back, come to the children, old please you in the
- 12:43mantle. But yeah, I absolutely adore this episode, and I thought Patrick
- 12:46Stewart was just like so great. I was about to say, old mate,
- 12:50Pat stew rocks up, and this is a really good performance for well.
- 12:54I think the main reason is he's very much steer steering into the Patrick
- 12:58Stewart at all meme shuet. Yeah, it's got that lovely it's just got
- 13:03that wonderful stentory in the voice of his that makes it oh, okay,
- 13:07Yeah, this guy is definitely you want someone running the show or steering the
- 13:11ship of the Stonecutters. But he also puts just enough sort of pompousness on
- 13:16it to make you realize this guy's a bit of a clown. And also
- 13:20they give him a lot of deflating gags as well. I mean, the
- 13:26whole we control the world and we review the world's secrets. Let's oket drunk
- 13:30and play ping pong. I was wonder if I paused because I was one
- 13:33of I was going to blow one of my trivia okay, because I want
- 13:35to do well with my trivia questions. But it's like to note we have
- 13:39ribs. It's like all these wonderful and pa, I was going to bring
- 13:48that up. That's just that bit from the Lane. I rewatched it,
- 13:50and it's not that like the actual bitch, yeah, the actual bit like
- 13:54Melanie's like he played it up like I watched his, like Salt and Papa,
- 13:56and I'm like, I was expecting Salt and Papa. You're exaggerated for
- 14:03comic effect. What a guy. Oh but yeah, no, Patrick's it
- 14:09was a fantastic Yeah, a fantastic guest star. You're right. And getting
- 14:15him to say battling of the swallow Ass with paddles, that's more like it's
- 14:20she's delivery is like, now, I never really got into Next Generation.
- 14:28I mean I've never really been much of it. I want to. I've
- 14:30wanted to get into Star Trek. I've just never bothered to. Really,
- 14:33There's something about it just doesn't captivate me. Like you look at Star Wars
- 14:35and it's like, you know, you've got your droids and your spaceships,
- 14:39and I know that you get that in Star Trek, but it's like it
- 14:41looks like the grown up version of Star Wars. When I was kid,
- 14:43I was like, this looks like boring Star Wars. This looks like diplomacy.
- 14:48This is the exploration and works. Man, you didn't have any lazy
- 14:54bitch. What's going on? Yeah? What's happening? Yeah? Yeah.
- 14:56Now, before we get into our review of the episode in our favorite most
- 14:58trivia and whatnot, we've got a few things here. So when this episode
- 15:01originally aired, right, the number one movie at the US box office was
- 15:05Dumb and Dumber. Okay. The number one song in the US Billboard charts
- 15:09was on Bended Knee by Boys to Men and who also had another ten spot
- 15:13with I'll Make Love to You, So it seems Boys to Men were right
- 15:16up there in nineteen ninety five was the beginning in the end? Yeah.
- 15:18January eighth, ninety five was when this episode and I love how the running
- 15:22the spectrum of black I'm gonna get down on Bendney? Why am I?
- 15:26Why am I doing? Drodric Tadam, I don't know boys to Men and
- 15:28proposed marriage to you by the way, I'll move live to you do you?
- 15:31And the number one song in the UK was cutt Nyie Joe. I
- 15:35read next, Oh, my god. The difference on Bended Knee and Cotton
- 15:39Night Joe. Oh god, I was night climbing at that stage, and
- 15:41you know, Cott Night Joe like a bit of a hodown on the dance
- 15:46floor. It was kind of ridiculous. Yeah, but you going into it,
- 15:48had a good time, had a few drinks, Yes, got gotten
- 15:50Cotton Eye Joe. Where do you come from? Where do you go?
- 15:54Miss? These questions will never be answered. I love that song when I
- 15:56was a kid, though, And the number the top of the the New
- 16:00York Times bestseller list was politically Correct Bedtime Stories by James Finn Garner. I
- 16:04have never heard of that, I know, but January eighth, nine twenty
- 16:07five, that's what was number one around the world. When episode Fantastic didn't
- 16:12look up what was tops in Australia? Well, do people really care about
- 16:15Australia? We do. The other thing is I couldn't find anything on Australia.
- 16:22Probably not. Do you find Aria charts? I guess I could find
- 16:25ARI chart. Should do it? No? I do it? Next episode,
- 16:26We'll do it. Yes. But yeah, Dumb and Dumbell was number
- 16:29one at the US box office, and it'd been number one for like five
- 16:32straight weeks. It was it was a different time. It was a monster.
- 16:34Yeah, my favorite al right, favorite moments from the episode, mister
- 16:40davis favorite moments, Well, I think I mentioned old mate Pat Stewart.
- 16:44Yes, did very very well. I was a big fan of just the
- 16:47opening with the plumber. Yes. I don't think I've had bad plumber experiences.
- 16:52I had many bad trading experience. Well. I remember I had the
- 16:53guy who was trying to like change our hot water system and he's like,
- 16:56it's gonna be have to be done today. It's going to cost you like
- 16:59five grand. And what was his name? Was it Bruce or Bruce,
- 17:03Yes, and he was just like, no, tell me to go away.
- 17:06He hero Bruce, f that guy off, and I'll come and do
- 17:10it for two and a half or literally half the price. And I was
- 17:12like, holy ship, and we've had no issues with the sins. Nice
- 17:15one, Bruce. I would argue that water comes through fast than it ever
- 17:18had before. Yeah, Bruce, Yeah, he is no stern lecture plumbing.
- 17:26I just love that guy. And they're filling his pipe. I could
- 17:32pipe. I thought that was great. Put a pan down there. I
- 17:36was a big fan of Lenny's secret voice, and it's a secret. Yeah.
- 17:41I don't know if Lenny's voice in these earlier episodes seems different to his
- 17:45later voice. It's more nasally, I think, yeah, which, and
- 17:49I don't know, I just like it a lot more. I mean,
- 17:52Harry's sheer I was just got older. I guess, I guess. Yeah.
- 17:55You listen to his characters now and you're like, oh boy, he
- 17:57listened to a few voices and now I was like, bully, Yeah,
- 18:00but yeah, it's a secret. That's fantastic. I love to pay off
- 18:04with the Carl drinking the frown shut up. Also, I love that he
- 18:11was in the pocket a big egg. Yes, that's one of the gags
- 18:14that still to this day, I never quite understand the egg cancel gag.
- 18:17And this is a guy and an exit running away. I really kid going
- 18:21I don't get this, and teenager, I'm like, I don't get this.
- 18:25As a thirty five field, still I get this. There's big tobacco,
- 18:29there's big farmer, and there's also big egg. It's just it's just
- 18:30a silly John Swartswater gig. It really is, it really is. But
- 18:36if we're going to favorite moments, we're not just talking favorite moments of the
- 18:37episode. There's one of my favorite Simpsons moments of all to you, and
- 18:41I just love this gag so much. It is just wonderful. And it's
- 18:47you know, Lisa trying to word Homer up about you know, going power
- 18:52mad and quite a bit of Shakespeare, and it was like, beware the
- 18:55eyes of March. What's same as reponse? No, No, I'm sorry.
- 19:03That's just a perfect and I just love that so much. It's like
- 19:06so built up. I mean yeah, I mean it's from God. I'm
- 19:11probably going to misquote my Shakespeare, but I'm pretty sure it's from Macbeth.
- 19:15And you know, it's a very portentous line and leads to the downfall of
- 19:21our titular anti hero. It's deployed. It's like why should I so yeah,
- 19:30I mean, that's that's one of one of my favorite Simpsons moments of
- 19:33all time. And honestly, it wasn't until they were sitting on the couch
- 19:37and I literally sort of did the fist because you mentioned that moment so many
- 19:44times. I guess this has met your most quoted line. It's about of
- 19:47all time. It probably is. I think when Dan and I first met,
- 19:51you know, we started talking about the Simpsons and we may have gone
- 19:55It may have been the actual IDEs of March, which is like is it
- 19:56the first of March or the third of the Yeah, that's right, yeah,
- 20:00something like that. And that was that date. And I say,
- 20:03you're one of my favorites, this fu girl. Yeah you oh man,
- 20:11I just said, I teach you how to use photo shout. It doesn't
- 20:14make his burty? All right? What did you? What were your face?
- 20:18Well you've covered both a couple of minds. But I also just love
- 20:21going down the slide and just a reaction. Somebody get the jaws alive?
- 20:26Well, is there anything more humiliated than mean caught in a tube? I
- 20:30went down a slide at McDonald's recently and I literally go halfway down. I
- 20:36was like, I'm not stuck, but it's just awkward. I like,
- 20:40manoeved my way down. Your body's not little enough that it can yeah,
- 20:44because I had like call on my lap and I got to a point where
- 20:47going down I had to lay down to my back and then she just sort
- 20:49of got stuck in my legs and was sort of like tangled, and I
- 20:51was like, holy you go save yourself trying to kick her out. Yeah,
- 20:56so going through I'm at that point now in my life where I get
- 20:59to playground and I'm like, should I go in there? I should?
- 21:02I will I be able to get out because but I was a kid,
- 21:03I was just like go for it. When I was a teenager, you
- 21:06go for it. Now I'm just like, I can get it, wait
- 21:07for it. But I assess the assess the situation. Should I be going
- 21:12in there? And so I hate tight spaces. So if I ever get
- 21:15caught in they thing like that, I just instantly have like a panic attack.
- 21:18I think I've discussed I discussed on my way back from England when I
- 21:21was on the elevator and it didn't work. The doors closed, it open,
- 21:23and I just had like an instant meltdown. I was just like I
- 21:26didn't scream, but I was just like I could feel my heart race,
- 21:27So I was almost having a Have you ever had a panic attack? Yes?
- 21:30Yeah, terrifying. Oh yeah, you feel so helpless? Absolutely?
- 21:36Yeah. Yeah, I mean you've got I've been doing a bit of research
- 21:38on brain chemistry and all this kind of stuff lately, and I'm probably fucking
- 21:42all this up. But you know you're getting something. I think it's cortisol
- 21:45messes with your brain as well, but yeah, you feel your heart racing
- 21:48and all this kind of business. Oh god, nothing worse than your just
- 21:52that loss of control. It's like when you're on a smaller scale when you
- 21:56feel your pockets and you think you've lost your phone or something, and that
- 21:59instant feeling of look, worrying, concerned if you feel it in your chest
- 22:02and then you feel it it's in the back pocket, in the relief.
- 22:04But then yeah, I mean, oh god, I had that on Christmas
- 22:07Day. Yeah, because you couldn't find your presents. Joke, Santa no,
- 22:14no, I did pretty well in the present stake. I think we
- 22:17both put our little hauls up on the patrons page. And yes, yeah,
- 22:21I've got a thief and guy the record there it is with my with
- 22:25my collection of records. I got the Wiggles, Best of Albums, Matchbox
- 22:30twenty, yourself or someone like you, because we're going to see them in
- 22:32a month or so for real. Yeah, nice, nice, But Lou's
- 22:37coming over to pick me up. We're going down to my sister's place.
- 22:40I'm balancing. I'd made macaroni and cheese and it was fresh out of the
- 22:44oven. So I'm trying to balance it on this tray. It's getting a
- 22:47little slightly, it started to rain. I'm trying to balance that. I've
- 22:52also got just an envelope with a card and a present in it for my
- 22:57for my nephew. Yeah, and then the door closed behind me, and
- 23:02I'm like, oh, well that's fine, I didn't I didn't snip it.
- 23:04Oh it's snipped. Oh I'm locked out. My keys are inside.
- 23:08And then I get outside and I'm waiting for it, and I'm like,
- 23:11well, I work this out when I get home, gat back in and
- 23:14then footpath is slippery. I'm trying to sort of balance and honestly, the
- 23:18mac and cheese in the tray, it came so close and I'm like,
- 23:22I can't grab this thing because it's fucking scolding hot. So I've got it,
- 23:26honestly got it looked like bloody he's sirked as lay or some ship.
- 23:29But it almost went into the fucking garden. If that had happened, what
- 23:33would you have done? Any thinking we'll just give it up on Christmas Day?
- 23:36I would have just cried. I literally would have like burst in their
- 23:37tears. Lou would have come to an industry with like mac and hot mac
- 23:42and cheese dripping from my head and go quiss me. Luckily it all worked
- 23:48out me and and then well, of course Lou's got to key on my
- 23:52place. It's in the mid in my handbag. Don't worry about it,
- 23:56like this is all good. We get to talking about that. Oh yeah,
- 23:59because because Christmas Morning was kind of a band of the day. Luckily,
- 24:04the mac and cheese was big hit was a big here. Yeah yeah.
- 24:07He said it wasn't going to be your standard mac and cheese. It
- 24:08was going to be elite mac and cheese. That sort of Yeah. I
- 24:11mean, I'm going to start calling this person friend of the pod. Recipe
- 24:15Tin Eats is a site on a YouTube channel just as sort of good basic
- 24:21recipes, but they've got a little bit of flair to them. And Lou's
- 24:23got the cookbook and I was looking on the side as one of that she
- 24:27does mac and cheese. It's got interesting cheeses in it and you know,
- 24:30not too fancy but looks pretty. I love blending cheeses. Oh it's so
- 24:33exciting. She was like, you could use regular chedable. Why don't you
- 24:37try gru Yeah, And I'm like, oh, remember that it's stink.
- 24:41It's like it does stink to make but one very nice in the mouth though,
- 24:45yeah, yeah yeah, And like we went out from on newars E
- 24:47parties and Christmas parts and all these dips and stuff and all these cheese and
- 24:49I'm like, we're gonna have that cheese and that cheese and that cheese on
- 24:52the one cracker and no one's going to stop me. What's your favorite cheese?
- 24:56By the way, Oh golly, I'm look, I'm a bit of
- 25:00a basic bitch, but like a nice came and beer or yeah, yeah,
- 25:03bre for me, but I forget. One of our friends went on
- 25:06a date and apparently she said to me, we're going out for dinner,
- 25:08and she says, what's your favorite cheese? And what do you think?
- 25:11The guy said, singles tasty. It's like tasty is great? Yeah,
- 25:21this when a date. You're trying to impress the girl, she says,
- 25:22and you can tell that she's like a kind of sewer of cheese. What's
- 25:25your favorite cheese? Don't say tasty? What do we have a dinner?
- 25:29Sausages and veg and that could be Yeah, you could be fantastic gourmet sausages,
- 25:36you know, and perfectly, you know, mashed potato with truffle oil
- 25:40and beautiful baby peas and little potato skins in there. Oh man, that
- 25:45sounds really nice. That's how Marge makes it, with a little skin in
- 25:47the potato. I do that, do you? This doesn't do that?
- 25:51You just start doing that? I reckon. I always saw as a kid
- 25:52that it would The gag was that it would taste bad. But no,
- 25:56I tasted it once at a restaurant. I'm like the skins. You're the
- 25:59skins now. Sadly, I am let's see how well we go this.
- 26:04But I am off carbs for the early years, for the immediate time being.
- 26:10New year, New guy, New year, new guy. I mean,
- 26:11I've been out, been out walking, I've got my flash new watch.
- 26:15How did your macis thing last? Do you do that for a while?
- 26:18Right? Yeah? But then I fell off the wagon. I fell
- 26:19at the wagon hunt. You know, so I thought have recorded record sales
- 26:27a half of three twenty three. I bove you know, because you get
- 26:36the app, and you know you think I had some notifications off. I'm
- 26:41a raising it. I'm taking it off the phone because it's like, you
- 26:44know, if I oh and extra points, then you know I can get
- 26:47a free apple pie almost every time. Oh my god, what a five
- 26:51dollar deal for two cheeseburgers and the small meal. That sounds fantastic, just
- 26:53what I need for my midnight stack. So I'm eating it, and I'm
- 26:56eating it late. This is no good, especially for a man my advanced
- 27:00dage. Yeah, but we on New Year's even not nickol and I did
- 27:03well, like we're gonna try and eat healthy for like to our anniversary,
- 27:06which is in the middle of feb right, like try and go off the
- 27:08major junk foods, my pizza or whatever like that. But then let's just
- 27:11get KFC. And I was like eleven forty five at night. I was
- 27:15just getting sliders and popcorn, chicken and all this shit. And I'm just
- 27:18like, it's anything better than just eating shit food late at night. Oh
- 27:21No, there's nothing better. Oh mate, it was. It was just
- 27:23awesome sitting there watching the New year in is eating KFC. Why do you
- 27:26think I was doing it? Yeah, so yeah, but not doing that
- 27:30anymore? So yeah, okay, So yeah, unfortunately massed potato off the
- 27:33table for the time being likewise, I much potato off the carbs. Yeah,
- 27:37it's all yeah, potato, potato passed and rice that's the main one.
- 27:41But that seems like carbs are such a big thing to just eliminate.
- 27:44Like for someone like me, I can go. I can do that,
- 27:48but like you said, once you fall off the wagon, I fall off
- 27:49at hard. Yes I've learnt now for me, for someone with my mentality,
- 27:52I need to just reduce things. So I'm like once a week or
- 27:57you know, don't completely remove, because once I comp remove something, once
- 28:00I allow myself to have it again, I just go hard. Well yeah,
- 28:03so I mean I'm looking at I mean, what I'm trying is and
- 28:07listeners, you may know something about this called the keto just essentially you know
- 28:11it's zero carbs, ero, sugar, all that kind of stuff, and
- 28:17yeah, heavier on the good fats, I suppose the saturated fats, a
- 28:21lot of a lot of green leafy vegetables, all that kind of stuff.
- 28:23Like looking at it, going I can actually pull this off. I mean,
- 28:26you know, I can get myself a couple of nice chicken dice,
- 28:27marinate and put them on the grill, Like I hate chicken. THI is
- 28:30my healthy days like chicken thighs like bad for you. So I'm like,
- 28:33I hate chicken Thi's I'm away was a chicken breast. My chicken brests so
- 28:36expensive. Chicken dies are much the same. Yeah expensive now I think I
- 28:40think they used to be. Was working the dallies out like the cheap The
- 28:41year is twenty twenty four. Everything is expensive looking podcasts. Be a patron.
- 28:45We went out to go and get I like to go sipmoking some stuff
- 28:48at dinner last night. Right, I bought like some some foil and some
- 28:52clean wrap, which just a couple of extures like that, and it's like
- 28:53that'd be sixty seven dollars please, And I was like what what what O
- 28:59look at the bus and I'm like how Yeah, it's insane. I mean
- 29:03I received a couple of nice gift cards from various Yeah well well in addition
- 29:10to the lovely Amazon one that have you used it yet? No? No?
- 29:11Yeah, you get turned it into extra money. Remember that's the deal.
- 29:17I realized the gift came with like a disclaimer, but also got like
- 29:22they basically just called like the f post card or the perfect card where it's
- 29:25like you take it anywhere. But my mentality is like, wh do just
- 29:27put them cashing the card? Why go through the trouble of buying this f
- 29:30post card? Just money in the card money to me, I'm far more
- 29:33excited. I get a fifty dollars note in my hand. I'm like,
- 29:36it's fifty dollars. Unfortunately cash is no longer king. I mean I did
- 29:38that, would lose kids. They all got. I got a nice pineapple
- 29:41each and yeah, exciting, it is nice. I got the Amazon gift
- 29:47and I was like, yeah, yeah, yeah, but these other just
- 29:52regular gift cards. You can use them just about anywhere anywhere you use their
- 29:56post and I'm like, I think I'm using these of the Supermarke you can
- 30:00can okay, yeah, because they won't let you use I tried to just
- 30:03after paid to their supermarket and like, oh man, for real, Yeah,
- 30:07they'dn't let me. Oh that sucks. I was like, I wonder
- 30:11if I could just after pay this. I can imagine so many people do
- 30:12a huge shop and it it's never paid. I think they do yeah,
- 30:15or paid off on the never never y they call it. Yeah. I
- 30:18mean, I've got to look at my it's been a little one since I
- 30:22looked at my after pay thing because now I'm too scared to look at it
- 30:23Christmas time. I panic. I'm like, I can't do it. I
- 30:26know I went too crazy, and I know I just prefer to put my
- 30:30head in the sand. I bought a couple of things just as not even
- 30:33on Boxing Day sales. They had pre Boxing day Boxing day sales. You
- 30:37know, so I box testiles started in August, didn't they forget like Friday?
- 30:45That's what suckers? Uh yeah, but no, I'm gonna have to
- 30:49look out a look at it and go, Okay, No, I think
- 30:52I can pull this up before the before the end of January or whatever,
- 30:55so we'll see how it goes. But I mean with some of these,
- 30:59I'm like, yeah, we're gonna be using these gift cards just to get
- 31:03stuff from the supermarket, foil and cling rap and whatever. But good luck
- 31:07with you, no carbs and say there we go, Thank you very much.
- 31:08Yes, hopefully the audience here they'll keep you on track because you have
- 31:11to, you know, tell the audience I failed. I hate carbs.
- 31:15So this podcast will keep you keep your going. This is the account you're
- 31:18gonna be all my accountability buddies. So we're gonna what we're gonna be doing
- 31:21at the start of every podcast going forward. We're gonna have a carb counter
- 31:23and you're gonna tell us how many carbs you've can chew. Well, that's
- 31:26the thing I mean. On my fancy new Samsung Galaxy Watch, gifted me
- 31:30by the lovely Louise. Yeah, it does all manner of things which I
- 31:33have yet to install right now. I just tell the time on it and
- 31:36occasionally use the stop watch and also the stress meter. I love that the
- 31:40watches. They can do anything. It's like, tell me the time and
- 31:41stop watch that's all I need. I can change my what I'm listening to
- 31:47on YouTube music or something like that. But it does have a stress meter,
- 31:49and the first few times I was used like you're in the red I'm
- 31:52like the what I'm sitting here jacket? They're increasing these stresses all right,
- 32:00trivia time, mister Davis. But of course it means we also need to
- 32:14what a fitting episode. Holy, that's very appropriate. What a way to
- 32:21start tweage twenty four by reading that the names of our incredible top tier supporters,

- 33:06love to review like an episode or two. Yeah, it's just so I
- 33:07can say I host, thank thank you for being a pod. Well,
- 33:10let's do it. Let's do it sometime this month. I think this year
- 33:13what we're going to be doing is just tackling shows that we haven't tackled.
- 33:15Before. Yeah, we'll do a few stand alone and based on your response,
- 33:21we may move forward, or we may just throw it on the heap.
- 33:22Yeah, well one should I'd like to start doing. And we've said
- 33:25this before, is just revealing, like the pilot episode of a show.
- 33:29Yes, like just you know, once a month, we'll just go and
- 33:30find a pilot of a classic fresh Prince bal Air from the Sun or thirty
- 33:35Rock or anything like that, just review the pilot. Scrubs, Scrubs.
- 33:37I've never said I've never watched Scrubs. Now I believe it's on Disney Plus.
- 33:42I think, yeah, yeah, great themes on the themes song,
- 33:44Oh yeah, good show. I was really into Scrubs for a very long
- 33:46time. I remember when I was in high school, my friends were either
- 33:50obsessed with Scrubs or they've never seen it. It's like it wasn't just like
- 33:53you were just like a casual view, like either love Scrubs or you just
- 33:57never saw it. Clearly son of a good show, Yes, exactly right.

- 34:22Beast. My first question for you, mister Davis, is this, how
- 34:27many people were already on Homer's lists before he added stern lecture plumbing, So
- 34:31I would have had to slow it down and count the more. Well I
- 34:34didn't do that, but I'm going to say twenty three. No, so
- 34:39we had the bill of rights Grandpa. Now it was written Grandpa, right,
- 34:44and normally Grandpa has written Grandpa in the Simpsons is really weird like over
- 34:46them. Yeah, but it was written gr n Dpa, fat free Land
- 34:52Gravity, Emmy's Darwin love this throwback here the Hastree wol the water slide that
- 34:58you got stack. Oh yes, yeah, a little bit of a call
- 35:00back there, Billy Crystal. There goes one of my trigger questions. Oh
- 35:02okay, God Sola flex the boy. Oh so eleven yes, and twelve
- 35:09was stern lecture? Okay? Then well cross that question of my list,
- 35:15which former Oscar host was on Homer's revenge list Krystal instead. What is Lenny's
- 35:21license plate number? Oh, I've got that as well. It is h
- 35:24A two nine EAG. That is correct. Well done, you you get
- 35:28a point. Who did Homer stalk for digging up his garden? Oh,
- 35:31Charles Carrolt, Yes, somebody did something? Did I mentioned ribs earlier?
- 35:40Which anniversary of the stonecutters are they celebrating with the devouring of ribs? It's
- 35:45like fifteen hundredths or something. It is indeed the fifteen hundred Yeah. What
- 35:50was the last name of the other Homer who was allowed into the club?
- 35:52Damn it? I wanted to I wanted to rewind and check this out because
- 35:55that was a great little callback. Yeah it was. That was a really
- 35:59good gag. I want I want to say glumpkin, but that glumplet yeah,
- 36:02polto yeah, globe lit. Except that sounded a bit too much like
- 36:07blunkin' don't urban dictionary that. Oh, okay, I won't do that.
- 36:10I don't know what that means. Should I not do it? It's sounds
- 36:13a bit gruss Okay, Mmm, what type of monkeys are hanging with Homer?
- 36:20Very end? It starts with C, doesn't it. It does color
- 36:24colone. Now, what is that colobus? Colobus? I canna say colonial?
- 36:28It's a colonial. What number is mister Burns? Mister Burns is number
- 36:31twenty nine, Lennin Carl we're fourteen fifteen, right, Carl was twelve,
- 36:36Lenny was fourteen fourteen twelve. Okay, and my last question for you,
- 36:40it's pretty obvious, but name the four international members or four main members?
- 36:45Shit, nah, you've got me. I remember. George Bush is the
- 36:47one that's like he's like the one that sort of like level headed, is
- 36:50like, how man, we just see Yeah this first literally know two seasons
- 36:53later, no, no, the next season he's going to be moving across
- 36:55the road from the Homer correct having a fight. Now, who are the
- 36:58other ones? I can't remember? Okay, George Bush Senior, Yeah,
- 37:00George H. W. Bush. You got mister T. That's mister T.
- 37:04Yeah, Jack Nicholson, and I'm assuming this is all Reddenbucker, the
- 37:07popcorn magnate. Okay. There was one who I was just like, I
- 37:13don't know who you are, but obviously somebody Yeah, that's Awvil. I'm
- 37:15pretty sure it was very Swartzworlder of this episode in the sense of that some
- 37:19of the references, like Charles was a child's it's like kids will never get
- 37:23that. And then as an adult thirty five, I still don't really know.
- 37:25I have to look it up, but it's like, but that's very
- 37:28Swartsworlder. That's the thing. He's he's either a news anchor or a news
- 37:30reporter in the US. Yeah, he used to be like a news reporter.
- 37:34Yeah yeah, yeah, but it's just very he loves his old timey
- 37:37references. Yeah yeah. But the actual story for this episode came about when
- 37:42when David Merkin was driving home from a rewrite they were doing and he heard
- 37:45a religious radio show without talking about freemasonry, and he was like, I
- 37:49don't have the time to do this, but who's the perfect person to write
- 37:51this? Sworts what another? And you watch it knowing that Swartzwater wrote it,
- 37:54and you're like, I can really see this now. He has a
- 37:57real sort of like no, how would you of what his style? Like
- 38:00I said, he loves his old timey stuff. He loves his gags that
- 38:05don't like the egg gag for example, Yeah, that's a swat spot.
- 38:07I guess you could almost say it's a cod O'Brien kind of gag as well.
- 38:10It's kind of yeah, esoteric, a little unusual. Yeah, sort
- 38:15of the joke is that it doesn't make sense. It's like, if you
- 38:21get it, you get it. Yeah, But I think he's also enough
- 38:24of a comedy technician that he'll design the lines that you know, it's funny
- 38:30even if you don't know the reference. Yeah. That's what I love about
- 38:34these Simpsons compared to like Season eighteen, is that they don't doumb it down
- 38:37for you. Yeah, It's like they just they expect you to know what
- 38:39they're going for, and if you don't, too bad, you have to
- 38:42look at yourself. I mean, they could easily replace a name that you
- 38:46don't necessarily know or a reference that you wouldn't necessarily immediately get, but the
- 38:51gag surrounding it is strong enough that you'll go, oh, this is a
- 38:53gag, you know. And of course you've got Dan and Julian all these
- 38:58other people sort of at the peak of the well they not the peak of
- 39:00their powers, but you know, they're they're really good comedy performers as well.
- 39:05They know how to put the right spin on it, so yeah,
- 39:07even go, well somebody had something, did something. Just even adding that
- 39:13bit to it, it's kind of like, Okay, we know that Homer
- 39:15is kind of like a stalker and a conspiracy theorist. He's it bleeds into
- 39:21the story as well. You know he's going to be of course, he's
- 39:23going to be wanted to be part of this secret group. Well, Hope
- 39:27was the perfect candidate for this story. Well yeah, well, and I
- 39:30like the way they sort of said up at the start as well. And
- 39:31then you know, he never got to be part of a club. You
- 39:36know, no one wants him to be part of their club. Why don't
- 39:37people like me? Why doesn't Why doesn't anybody want me around? And you
- 39:40know, it's having forever and it's got it's got multiple build ups, and
- 39:44it's got a lovely payoff at the end because you know, you know,
- 39:47you get wholesomeness and the Simpsons who would I who knew? Who saw that
- 39:52coming? I mean, but that's a really really just a sweet payoff,
- 39:57A lovely one, isn't it. I thing that you don't really see coming.
- 40:00Yeah, And like the fact that that's where because they plan the seats
- 40:05for that ending throughout the entire episode, but still it sort of still catches
- 40:07you off guards. And the other thing is, I mean, we've been
- 40:10talking a lot about teen episode, well episodes of the teenage years for the
- 40:16sentence and how they'll go for this kind of ending where it's like we love
- 40:22you and you know you're you know, you're part of this team and all
- 40:24this kind of stuff. Invariably in the in the lead up to that,
- 40:28throughout the episode, Home has done shit to know, yeh, fuck up
- 40:31his family or insult or disregard or disrespect Marge or whatever. This isn't that.
- 40:37No, No, I mean he's not. He's not a bad guy.
- 40:40Throughout this episode, he means he just gets a bit drunk on power
- 40:43and realizes that, oh, it's not doing anything for me, you know.
- 40:46He's not like, well, I've got a real family now in the
- 40:50Stone Gutters, I don't need you. I mean, event if he did
- 40:52that, yeah, it would be horrible, Like eighteen he would do that,
- 40:55Yeah, yeah, I mean he would choose them over his family.
- 40:58He would Yeah, yeah, I've got to I've got a real family,
- 41:00people who really respect me and all this kind of stuff. And he he
- 41:02clearly loves his family in this one. And but the ending though that sometimes
- 41:07in season eighteen and whatnot, They'll give you that nice moment and I'll suck
- 41:09it up with some stupid gag at the end. This one he had that
- 41:13had a moment, but it wasn't stupid. No, all right, that's
- 41:15Lisa's turned. I think marg you're going to say stop, that's enough,
- 41:20No, Lis, that that's backs great paddling as well. That's great Simpsons.
- 41:25And it's like it's sentimental and it's earned it, but it's also we're
- 41:30a bit we're a bit cheeky about the family dynamic. We also recognize that
- 41:34sometimes it can be dysfunctional and fucked up. It's actually my favorite moments.
- 41:36I just love how much Bart was given it taking this opportunity. Plus we
- 41:42mentioned it earlier as well, also missed my favorite moments and going outside to
- 41:45stock. The visual of the stock like is in his head is like this
- 41:50is working. Yes, I need I need a ye, it's a different
- 41:55word for no, just your storm. It works is stock. My final
- 42:00question for you is what is the hand that Homer has According to Carl in
- 42:05Poker, Oh yeah, it's the royal Samplo. Yes, yeah, that's
- 42:08why I haven't realizes. Oh this isn't as good as a cracked up to
- 42:12be. Yeah. All right, So the original air day of Homer the
- 42:15Great was January eighth, nineteen ninety five, written by as we said,
- 42:19John Swartzwolder and directed by Jim Read and guest Iron Patrick Stewart. Chot board
- 42:22gag chot board gags. Yeah, I know, back adding just kidding doesn't
- 42:28make it okay to insult the principle and the cash gag is the living room
- 42:31is modeled after mc ashes eshes is it esher esha? Yeah, relativity.
- 42:36So the episode kicks off with stern lecture plumbing, I told you not to
- 42:39flush that. I love here. I don't think they do it anymore,
- 42:43but it used to be whenever they would go into the basement, you would
- 42:45see the big giant head that mister Burns gave but from the blood feud.
- 42:49I think it was where it donates blood and save mister Burns. They don't
- 42:52do it anymore, but it was always nice that they had that little call
- 42:53back every time lay the basement. It's like because it's like, what did
- 42:57the family do with their head? They put it into the basement. How
- 42:59they get into the basement, you know, but it's there, But then
- 43:00how do they get it out shoulder anymore? Who knows? But yeah,
- 43:05so he's basically no help at all in right of me of the guy who
- 43:07just wanted to sum me up a river and the cats down there she's swimming
- 43:12around. It's going to take them two to three weeks with the past to
- 43:14arrive. As he said, if I owed him today, which I won't,
- 43:19it call the very nineties thing, by the way, I know,
- 43:23right, tell him to put a pan down there. It didn't work.
- 43:25Then Homer is stuck in a traffic jam, and yeah, I'm terrible traffic
- 43:30jams. I hate traffic jams. I know I'm part of the problem by
- 43:32being in the traffic jam. Yeah, just still you feel like the only
- 43:36one is what are you guys doing? I need to get here? If
- 43:40we all just drove really quickly, yeah, get to where we needed to
- 43:44go. That's going on. But there's an accident. Who caused the accident,
- 43:46it's your man, It is only pie no longer in the sky.
- 43:52Yeah, but they're always happy to the arney pie. But although this he
- 43:55was relatively even tempered as the usual times we see him. Homer has then
- 44:00parked directly behind the house. Now this is one of those gags where I
- 44:02feel like, if this happened in season eighteen, I'd like grill it for
- 44:06continuity. But there's maybe the more I go back and reviews at these old
- 44:09ones, I'm like, Oh, they've been doing this ship since day dot.
- 44:12Yeah, you know, it's like, ah, maybe I should just
- 44:14go with something sometimes. But the Linear and car they've got great parks right
- 44:21next to the power plants. Hey, how come you guys got such great
- 44:28parking places. It's a secret shut up home. And then breaks his stool.
- 44:34I like, this can save budget stool, factory sec. So he's
- 44:37not only got the budget stall, he's got the he's got the what do
- 44:40you call it, the factory sec, the shoddy one here, the runt
- 44:45of the art of the litter. But he's that's it. You've made the
- 44:49list. And Linear and Carbo have good chairs. And then we get the
- 44:52first glimpse at the stonecutter slash logo slash ring when they put the ring into
- 44:58the into the coal machine. That's right, Hey, you guys want to
- 45:06go balling tonight, what Betsy, Yeah, we got things to dope,
- 45:10Like what it's a secret? Shut up now. This took me back.
- 45:17So a dinner now and home is annoyed. You know, he says on
- 45:20Wednesday night, they're always doing something, says the Conspiracy. Wednesday Night for
- 45:23me growing up was bowling night. Oh for my dad. My dad used
- 45:27to be in an inner league team, and every Wednesday night we'd go watch
- 45:29my dad and my uncle Darren, and they'd always get like a third guy
- 45:31from where they worked. It was like one year it was a guy called
- 45:35Chad, next year is a guy called Scottie. And every time they're just
- 45:37like this guy can't do it anymore, that they'd bail out, but like
- 45:40they would win the tournament. And I'm like the very few times when I
- 45:44was a kid, I looked after my dad and be like wow, Like
- 45:46I used to watch a bowl and I'm like, I got three strikes in
- 45:50a row. That's fine. I mean, not that weird necessarily make fun
- 45:54of bowling, but you know it's like, well, that's a that's a
- 45:57game, not a sport. Noting like that, but watching someone who's really
- 46:00good at bowling, that's d I love watching bowling. It's one of those
- 46:06sports that I just loved a lot of darts, Yeah, just like when
- 46:07they get right into it, but like when the with the with the striking,
- 46:12the bowling ride. I love when you look at the guy for a
- 46:13gutter ball and that last minute it's like, yeah, how do you do
- 46:16that? Are you some fucking master of physics? Yeah? I guess at
- 46:21the end and goes strike and you're like, how did you make a spin
- 46:23at the end? And I think I think a lot of these of course,
- 46:30yeah, of course women can do dots and bullying, but generally it's
- 46:34you see dudes doing it, or maybe I'm just watching dudes do it.
- 46:39But the things that the things that really leap out at me when yeah,
- 46:44I'll see footage of it, is that you know, they realize, oh,
- 46:46maybe people aren't taking this seriously, and they get like a real sort
- 46:50of bragadocio as a result, they get really cocky, they really showman Like
- 46:53one of my favorite but dants is very much character driven. Darts is extremely
- 46:58It was like there was some guy he's like a big fat brett, yeah
- 47:02you know, and he's sort of lining up and he's He's like, he's
- 47:05a fucking assess. I know the guy. You mean, he's the best
- 47:07in the world, basically. I don't know if I hope it is,
- 47:09but he says, you know, before he throws the day, he's like,
- 47:14who's in charge? Me or a devil? I reckon it's me.
- 47:17I think it's probably Peter Wright or Phil Taylor, Phil Taylor. I'm not
- 47:21sure the guy, but my dad loves those guys. But he looked like
- 47:23someone who like redirect his mail to the pub. Yeah, because that's where
- 47:29he lives. Yeah. Yeah, but they are gods in that room.
- 47:32Yeah, I mean, honestly, it was like looking like Steve like pick
- 47:40Stephen Sagol or something. He's like, oh god, I'm not talking about
- 47:45that. Steven's talking about under siege. Yeah, I'm talking about above the
- 47:49law here, just like, oh my god, don't mess with this guy.
- 47:52Yeah. Yeah, it's just they're so cocky, but they're probably just
- 47:55lovely people. They're playing it. They're playing it because there's always a heal
- 47:58in a baby face. That's right. Yeah, it's both proby wrestling.
- 48:01We've talked about The Iron Four, haven't we that movie? The I haven't
- 48:04watched it yet, but yeah, but apparently it's just fucking like so depressing.
- 48:07I was reading a bit about the Van Erkson just like, oh my
- 48:10god, yeah that story. I've watched the actual documentary about them that the
- 48:13WW put out years and years ago, and it's just like, oh,
- 48:15man, yeah, not sure them up for this. No, but that
- 48:20on aw a couple of weeks ago in their hometown, and a couple of
- 48:23the a W wrestlers are actually in the movie. It's like, a,
- 48:25yeah, the story is just too sad for this podcast. Let's not talk
- 48:30about it. Let's let's move on to It was funny Ship, which is
- 48:34home of the great But yeah, so Homer basically thinks it a conspiracy and
- 48:37bar suggests they could be part of the Kennedy assassination. I thought this is
- 48:40gonna be the moment where he's like, I was just subscribed to your newsletter.
- 48:44But it wasn't. I thought that was this moment here. But Marche,
- 48:45there's no more stalking. I mentioned Corrol, Well something did. I
- 48:50don't want you stalking anyone tonight. Oh okay, it your own way,
- 48:53March. I'll be back in a minute. I'm going outside too, stuck
- 49:02Lenny and Carl. On paper, this probably wouldn't read funny, but Dan
- 49:09saying to Stock, that's what just makes it that that hits it home.
- 49:15But then, how clever was this? The Yellow drip Road was not a
- 49:20bad move. And it's one of those moments where he's like, it looks
- 49:23like he's barking up the Rahm bush, Like you know, he has a
- 49:25funny one line. I'm very rarely has funny one liners like that, but
- 49:29yeah, perfectly follow the Yellow Drip Road and eventually finds as when he refers
- 49:34to it their secret hiding place. Even as he's walking in, Homer tries
- 49:37to enter, and it's very much like Grandpa entering the Burl Scouts. That's
- 49:42one of my favorite gifts of all time. Oh yeah, straight, like
- 49:46realizing there's some dreadful no winner given somewhere and lie that nope, walking walk
- 49:54but he's on the roof. He thinks he's going to get away with it.
- 49:57They don't know, they're none the wiser, and it shatters and he
- 49:59falls in. I love this. There's like you must pay the ultimate price,
- 50:01Yes, the ultimate price, get out of here. Yeah, it's
- 50:05just throwing it Alecan drunk. Yeah, but I just love the Hibbitt Moe
- 50:08Skinner Wigham home and all hanging out and it's like, oh this is this
- 50:10is different. But now Homer he barges into the tea room and Lenny and
- 50:15Carla and he says he saw some some weird, strange, sick, twisted,
- 50:17eerie Guila's evil stuff and he wants in it. And Lenny then let's
- 50:22as sleep and oh, you can't be this stone Cutters. It's too exclusive.
- 50:23That's a nice secret organization we had once. There's any two ways of
- 50:27game membership, which were can you remember, Ah, yeah, you have
- 50:30to either save well be the sun of a stone cutter, or save the
- 50:34life of a stone cutter, which tries to do He tries to do.
- 50:37Yes, that could have killed you by cholesterol, as Lennie said, not
- 50:40yet proven conclusively that they actually raise a level of serram cholesterol in human bloodstream.
- 50:45And the A cancel creep got to him too, A gig, a
- 50:47gag. When I was the kid, I was like, I guess it
- 50:50is FURNI an egg, but I just never I never quite got it.
- 50:54I think it's one of those things where have I put it on the page
- 50:57right now. And why the only one that was confused by this. I've
- 50:59got to everyone as a kid was confused by this gig. We'll feel free
- 51:02to do that. Put something up on the page. I did a thing
- 51:06I noticed here that I've never noticed before was Lenny waving him off. I
- 51:09never noticed Lenny do in the way now, Homer, But no, I'm
- 51:15in bed and Hobad just wants to know why nobody likes him. Oh,
- 51:19yeah, everyone likes You're a great person. Well they're stupid idiots. Don't
- 51:22let mean their crapit club for jokes. Then we get the flashback of the
- 51:23no Homer's club, And as you were saying earlier, it's a nice setup
- 51:27to explain why Hommer would feel this way, or he's always felt like he's
- 51:30been left out. Hey Balie, Hey jolly, come on in. There's
- 51:37platy of room. Sorry that you, Hober ain't it? But you letting
- 51:42Homer Clumplet look it has no home burds. We're allowed to have one.
- 51:51They felt so left joke. Kids can be so cruel. We care face
- 51:55more. That's basically been my life for the last two weeks, except it's
- 52:02been wholly hitting Elliott. Oh my god, Oh my god. Sometimes I
- 52:06just like, I just grow a set and punch your back. Mate.
- 52:12I'm just like, She's like, Dad, like what he's touching me.
- 52:15I'm like, we'll just move. She's she's following me. I'm like,
- 52:20oh my Holly, okay Dad. A minute later, Dad, I'm like,
- 52:24oh my god. Children. Then I said, I see the meme
- 52:29Cherish moments, Cherish moments. One day they won't be hitting each other.
- 52:35Precious memories. Wants to get into the club, but he know it's absolutely
- 52:38nothing about them, and then Grandpa keeps trying to say I'm a member.
- 52:42I'm not listening to him, and Bart says, remember their self. Hypnosis
- 52:44classes even done done hypnosis before. Have you ever done it? No?
- 52:47I never have. I've always been too scared because I'm like, my brain
- 52:52says that it's all fake, right, But like I feel like if I
- 52:55do it, and I realized that I'm actually hypnotized, my whole world.
- 52:59But just that you get when we're done recording this episode, which may take
- 53:02a very long time. We're enjoying talking, but we're going to be recording
- 53:07an episode of Going down to South Park. Yeah, as we said that
- 53:09tooth fairy Tat's two thousand, where Kyle has his first existential crunch, says,
- 53:15I imagine, Yeah, every kid who watched the Matrix. Yeah,
- 53:19I don't trust my brain enough that if someone started messing around with it,
- 53:22or like I'm going to turn a key in there, It's like, no,
- 53:25you don't want to do that, because I've been piling a lot of
- 53:29stuff behind that door. I don't want it out. Yeah. Yeah,
- 53:31it's like my back once I went to that was it the chiropractor? I
- 53:35think it was once he tracks my back once. My back's ever been the
- 53:37same in a bad way, in a bad way, repeat business exactly right.
- 53:43Oh, you're going to need me to fix that at least once a
- 53:45week. Yeah. Num by the Sclen Cottage, Grandpa, Oh sure,
- 53:50let's see. I'm an elk a mationon a communist owned the president of the
- 53:57Gain Lesbian Alliance for some reason. Ah, here it is dust stone cutters.
- 54:02This is it? Wait, chicken in they have to let me join
- 54:06if I miss done of a member. Oh take this communist one too,
- 54:09Hope. Then arrives with Grandpa basically uses him saying the I'm a son of
- 54:13a member. He gonna let me in and say okay, and he says
- 54:15he's going to be initiated when number one gets here and he mocks number one.
- 54:19It's not very much Season eighteen Homer a bit. Yeah, I mean
- 54:23yeah, he's been doing a lot of ooh. So it's usually like saying
- 54:28you're fruity. It's usually these days, isn't it. Yeah? But they
- 54:31call each other by their number here and they outreped mister Burns. That's it,
- 54:35might he claim the ladder. And then number one arrives and is the
- 54:39arrival of Patrick Stewart. And of course Patricks Drewitt was referred to as number
- 54:44one on the Star Treks and Next Generation, or he wasn't it was the
- 54:46other way around. He called his Did he call Ryker number one? I
- 54:51thought he called Richer number one? Hang on, I could be wrong here.
- 54:53I could be wrong here. Like I think I said at the very
- 54:55start, I should start watching Star Trek the Next Generation, And here I
- 54:59am of saying, and this is what they say on DNG. The name
- 55:02of Stewart's character is the reference to his series Stature Generation, which at the
- 55:06time had recently ended a seventy year one in which number one is a nickname
- 55:08used by Captain him Patrick shoot Captain Pericard for his first officer, William t
- 55:15Ryker. Oh okay, we could easily erase all that and make it sound
- 55:20like a chump, or we could keep it and people would realize that guys
- 55:24indeed fallible. Would you like to redo it? No, No, I'm
- 55:27happy to keep it. This is part of my thing for twenty twenty four.
- 55:31It's like own your mistakes. Yes, that's the thing that don't try
- 55:35and high But that's why I love I want to start doing this show live
- 55:37where people can listen to us doing the show. Locals like, what's this
- 55:39live? Did you fuck up? You meant to do it? Yes,
- 55:43but we'd get canceled. That's true. But basically this is where moe plants
- 55:49are seed for the chosen one. Nice little teas there and he has to
- 55:52do the leap of faith, the five story plunge, which turns out to
- 55:53actually be a five story plange to do it again. My blindfold came off
- 55:58of what a great gag. Then crossing the desert, the Unblinking Eye,
- 56:01the wreck of the Hesperus, the paddling of the swollen ass. I know,
- 56:05smacking someone in the ass. I would never hit my kids, right,
- 56:07but you see people get hitting on the ass of the paddle. I
- 56:12was never hitter either. It must fucking be so painful because sometimes you sit
- 56:15on a bike for too long you get up in your ashes, like,
- 56:16absolutely, is this caning? But imagine getting smacked with a paddle on the
- 56:20ass? No thanks? Did you ever get smacked? Yes? Absolutely,
- 56:24wow, we did, Like I can't imagine, not by my folks.
- 56:27I don't recall I was at school, that's right, Yeah, because you
- 56:30did get strap around the wrist there, never got it on the maybe once
- 56:32on the wrist, like they got the cane on the fingers. And I'm
- 56:35like, I can't believe that was the thing. I can't blame nuts.
- 56:37That's crazy, right, And you go to school and get caned, Yeah,
- 56:40that's mental. That is kind of medieval. Yeah. By the time
- 56:45I was at school, I mean, they still had corporate punishment, but
- 56:50it wasn't quite as extreme as it used to be. And yeah, certainly
- 56:52in certain schools they let you know whose boss. But allowing someone else to
- 56:59hit your child, this is not not in a million years while down there,
- 57:01Oh, I used to go it in loco parentis you know, where
- 57:05whereby the teacher had could assume the role of the parent. And by this
- 57:09sacred parchment, I swear that if I revealed the secrets to the stonecutters,
- 57:15may my stomach become loaded and my head be plucked up All but three years.
- 57:20I think you should have to take a different oath. Everyone takes the
- 57:22same oath. Welcome to the club number nine hundred and eight. You have
- 57:27joined the sacred order of the stone Cutters, who, since ancient times have
- 57:31split the rocks of ignorance that obscure the light of knowledge and truth. Now
- 57:36let's all get drunk and play ping pong's. That's that's great Swartz world as
- 57:42well. It's great writing that, you know. I mean it sounds like,
- 57:44oh, well, the stone cutters actually probably had noble ambitions to begin
- 57:47with, and it just degenerated into a boy's fraternity. Yeah, were you
- 57:51part of a frat at school? Uh? No, not really? I
- 57:53mean, does astray really have frets? The sound? Only you were too
- 57:58at the private school. I thought maybe at private school they might No,
- 58:00no, no, no, I mean certainly, I mean just add clicks
- 58:02of like they had the cool kids. Yeah yeah, but nothing really cool
- 58:06official. If there was something official, it was so you know, exclusive
- 58:09that I didn't even hear about it. The plumber then says, it's still
- 58:14going to be a couple of weeks. They do the secret handshake and fixes
- 58:15it immediately, just one scroup. Also, they just wearing T shirts.
- 58:19Yes, that's right. Yeah, he gets the shortcut to work. Now.
- 58:22I would love the shortcut. How amazing would that be? It's just
- 58:24like, I mean, we look at these you were saying earlier, start
- 58:29like, we look at these secret societies and these rich privilege. Its like,
- 58:31but if you were in there, how amazing would it be? Like
- 58:36if you had the power, you'd be like, look at these peasants.
- 58:38It's kind of like when you buy a drop the Q card at like amusement
- 58:43park. It's like, well, that's funny. I mean, we're living
- 58:47in a very inclusive age where you know, exclusive is kind of like why
- 58:53don't you want everybody to be part of your of your wonderful team or whatever,
- 58:57because it's important to strive to be better than everybody else. But I
- 59:00mean I remember and you probably do to I mean, I think it was
- 59:04an American Express. I had their Their tagline was like membership has its privileges.
- 59:07It's like, okah, does you want to hear talking sci fi?
- 59:10Motherfucker? But it's fine. I mean, I was. I was watching
- 59:15some documentary on Netflix. I think it was about you know, Abercrombie and
- 59:19Fitch, the clothing label that's very preppy and all that kind of stuff,
- 59:23and they had all these people going, yeah, they were really selling this
- 59:28whole exclusive thing, and I didn't feel like part of It's like, do
- 59:31you not know how marketing works since day dot? If you've made it like
- 59:37this is not for everybody, but it could be for you. You know,
- 59:39you could be part of this, of this inner circle provided you buy
- 59:44this, you know, three hundred dollars fucking sweatshirt or whatever. This is
- 59:47how is how you get sold shit everywhere you go to buy something out you
- 59:52part Join the club, Join the club, Join the club, Join the
- 59:54JB Perks Club, join this absolutely, or even if it's not even necessarily
- 1:00:00join a particular club. I mean, just watching that for pepsi or coke
- 1:00:06or whatever. It's like these guys are all having a great time, you
- 1:00:08know, they're eating that delicious looking pizza and they are all laughing. It's
- 1:00:12a beautiful ladies. Just love them. And guess what, you know you
- 1:00:15can have that too if your order a pepsi. Yeah. And you never
- 1:00:16see fat people that to take away fast food like ad So it's just like
- 1:00:20hot people pretending to eat this giant bag and they always eat it weird.
- 1:00:22Never they eat burgers and commercials. They're holding two hands and they bring it
- 1:00:25like towards them yet and a get it. And it's like I'm holding this
- 1:00:29with like my index thing and my thumb and these guys couldn't hold it with
- 1:00:31two hands. Is there anything? There is plenty thing more disappointing. But
- 1:00:36how disappointing is it when you go to a fast food place and you order
- 1:00:40I don't off the menu and you get home and it's like this was just
- 1:00:44slapped together with no love at all. Oh yeah, looking back in my
- 1:00:47McDonald's days, like last year, last week, I was last week?
- 1:00:52Actually, no, no, when was the last time I had it?
- 1:00:53It was, well, it was a few weeks ago. But I was
- 1:00:57noticing because I'm the kind of guy who will open up his called pand with
- 1:01:00cheese and like sneak sneaker your fries and there oh really, oh yeah that
- 1:01:02worth it. It's pretty tasty, okay, but it's like this has the
- 1:01:07quarter pound of patty and it has the cheese, but where's the where's the
- 1:01:12sauce. They're gonna a bit, you know, not too heavy on the
- 1:01:16sauce and make us ketchup taste different. It does. It does. So
- 1:01:21when I was like, it might be time for us to say goodbye until
- 1:01:27they they will getch you back somehow. They will not you know how they
- 1:01:30got me back. How they get points are nearly expiring. If you don't
- 1:01:35come back, your points that you spent all this money and they're going to
- 1:01:37expire. And I'm like, ah, ship one last cheese worker, It'll
- 1:01:40be yeah, no, I will not go back. There's where Homer is.
- 1:01:45Basically he's got the shortcut to work. You know, you get all
- 1:01:46the exclusive stuff. But still he has the park in the same parking space.
- 1:01:50He got the roll, but glide to himself to work to the front
- 1:01:53door. He's got his new chair. Jealous, Well, no, with
- 1:01:58the exact yeah it is. Then they give me secret membership pack and it's
- 1:02:04got the sticker for getting no tickets. I think it was they get my
- 1:02:07tickets. This the paramedics won't steal your wallet when telling you. And also
- 1:02:12here's the new number. Don't call nine one anymore. He's the real number
- 1:02:14nine one two. How many people do you think tried to call that?
- 1:02:16After this episode? God Homer is reading secret world history, so he's now
- 1:02:23becoming conspiracy theories. Basically, he's just buying into their their fake history.
- 1:02:27Lisa doesn't think that the Founding fathers were stonecutters. Here's what really happened at
- 1:02:30something the Declaration of Independence they're going to part ofock Twas seventeen ninety nine.
- 1:02:36And also here's how David Crockett really died. Must be a margin, says
- 1:02:40I love this. The you know who just cold with the secret wink wink
- 1:02:45at the you know What. It's like the most unsecret secret club of all
- 1:02:49time. But then we get the of course the we Do song, which
- 1:02:52apparently wasn't in the original script for Matt Groening requests that it get put in
- 1:02:57there, and it got nominated for Most Outstanding Original Lyrics or something I did
- 1:03:00have in my notes somewhere. It was not for them, I mean for
- 1:03:02most outstanding original music lyrics, and it lost to Ordinary Miracles from Bubba Streisan,
- 1:03:07the concept which I do not know. I could not say, I
- 1:03:10could not sing lyric one of Ordinary Miracles. If you put a loaded gun
- 1:03:15to my head, Please don't put a loaded gun to my head. Did
- 1:03:16Steve Guttenberg deserve this? My only role that I know him of. The
- 1:03:22then role I know him from is short Circuit. Okay, love Circuit.
- 1:03:25He's a little bit of do do eighties history. Yeah, yeah, I
- 1:03:30mean Steve good move was sort of on the rise as a pure likable young
- 1:03:37leading man. He was in a few good movies and all that kind of
- 1:03:38stuff. Then around eighty four is in Police Academy, which was a big
- 1:03:40hit. Of course. Yes, yeah, so he's a lead in that,
- 1:03:44and it was like, oh yeah, he's a handsome, affable,
- 1:03:45well built, likable guy, not threatening in any way. He's very much
- 1:03:50you know, he'd be on the cover of one of Lisa's teen magazines,
- 1:03:53non threatening stars or whatever. And then he had a really good run of
- 1:03:58just like choosing or being chosen four movies that just did really well that weren't
- 1:04:02necessarily good. Agent good agent, I guess, because I mean he was
- 1:04:06in Cocoon, which was a huge hit, Short Circuit, The Three Men
- 1:04:11and a Baby, and he was in a few Police Academy movies as well,
- 1:04:15So he was just in the public eye constantly, and everyone was kind
- 1:04:17of like, I don't really know any Steve Gutenberg fans, But at the
- 1:04:20same time, I don't know, he's not hurting anybody. He just seemed
- 1:04:25like a really goofy, likable guy, and that was what you needed in
- 1:04:30eighties, you know, sort of high concepts comedies and rom coms and you
- 1:04:35know, genre movies. So he was the perfect candidate for this game then
- 1:04:39pretty much who made him a start? I love the way he just sort
- 1:04:42of goes. I mean, and I think by this time, this is
- 1:04:45the year. So they're doing this in ninety four. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:04:48the bloom's coming off the rose a little bit. He's still doing stuff,
- 1:04:54but he's not that young hottie anymore. No, not really. But
- 1:04:57yeah, it's purely understand and I'll probably fit it's nicely into the rhyme scheme
- 1:05:01as well. Look, as far as I'm gonna tell, he's still acting.
- 1:05:04Every once in a while he was on it. I can't see you
- 1:05:08for so long. I get the feeling he probably is getting nice residuals from
- 1:05:14all the hit movies he was in, hopefully invested his money wise, then
- 1:05:17he still pops up and stuff every once in a while. There's a great
- 1:05:20show called Party Down. You ever heard of that. No, it's about
- 1:05:24this crew of like cater waiters, you know. They they all work at
- 1:05:29sort of various events around LA and they're all like, would be right as
- 1:05:31actors all this kind of stuff. And one episode they're doing a catered party
- 1:05:36at Steve Gutenberg's house and they get the all the guests get the day wrong
- 1:05:43and no one shows up. So the crew just sort of ends up hanging
- 1:05:45out with Steve Gutenberg and like he's cool, but he's also like, you
- 1:05:49know, I'm Steve Gutenberg, right and you know, and check out my
- 1:05:51place. And he's got a bit of an ego and him still thinks he
- 1:05:54can sort of, you know, attract the hottie and the crew and all
- 1:05:57that kind of stuff. It was playing it up, yeah, and it
- 1:06:00was a really good sort of tongue in cheek. Yeah. Look, I
- 1:06:02know that people think I'm a little bit of a gag. But also,
- 1:06:05you know, people did like me for a very long time and probably for
- 1:06:08a good reason, remember when. Yeah, pretty much. So, I
- 1:06:12mean, if you go back and you look at these movies from the eighties
- 1:06:14been particularly yeah, Police Academy and I mean Police Academy has not aged well
- 1:06:18at all. Really, Oh, it's got a lot of just those really
- 1:06:21sort of dumb I'm not trying to excuse anything, but casually racist, casually
- 1:06:27sexist, dumbly offensive, not necessarily going for the throat kind of gigs,
- 1:06:31but just like that's a bit sort of racy or whatever. I mean,
- 1:06:35Yeah, I get the Field Simpsons two thousand and six, but he's you
- 1:06:41know, he's very very charming. You know, he's incredibly charming in Cocun.
- 1:06:44Just you know, a nice, likable guy. So yeah, I
- 1:06:47did Tom Haykstakey's spot I Reckon. So yeah, it's like, oh,
- 1:06:51we've got a guy who can do this and act. But yeah, but
- 1:06:56you actually put a bit of a bit of a curve on it, and
- 1:06:59yeah, you're right. Act. I mean it's like I've said this before,
- 1:07:02It's like, why are we putting up with Lindsay Low And when we've
- 1:07:05got Emma Stone who can do all this and more. Yeah, you respect
- 1:07:11them, Lindsay Lowan, Sorry, you know, but I mean I remember
- 1:07:15when you know, super Bad came out and then the emmastone sort of broke
- 1:07:17out. I'm like, oh okay, yeah, yeah, no, I
- 1:07:19was in love with her when that movie came out, justifiably so. But
- 1:07:26they're commemorating their fifteen hundredth anniversary by having ribs. How many? It's a
- 1:07:30bib. He doesn't embarrass some stuff. Oh, by the way, just
- 1:07:32one other thing about the We Do song, I mean, yeah, something
- 1:07:35that really works about it. Besides the fact that it's catchy and you know,
- 1:07:39you can do everyone can sing along to that, it just points out
- 1:07:43so many things that it was like, why is this the case? I
- 1:07:45mean, like we were talking about Steve Good. Yeah. But also it's
- 1:07:49like America just take on the metric system. Why did the meme? I
- 1:07:54put up no which ones meme? Yeah, not metric system. But it's
- 1:07:59the dates. So they did the dates differently. Oh that's right. Yeah,
- 1:08:01it's like it's it's one two three one two three. No I think
- 1:08:09it was. No, it doesn't. But this is the thing I was
- 1:08:12getting so many inboxes from people saying you should have put the tag ont have
- 1:08:15a saying no, it doesn't because I was otherwise you can't understand it.
- 1:08:17And I was like, I have enough faith in my followers to get the
- 1:08:19gag without dumbing it down for them. Yes, we're we're not the Simpsons.
- 1:08:27Yeah, but I mean, like I was one day I was in
- 1:08:28America. It's like, I can't see. I'm to do the maths of
- 1:08:30like, okay, so we're going twenty five miles an hour, that's so's
- 1:08:32okay, it's a hundred degrees outside. What the fuck? I've never leave
- 1:08:36the house. I was a kid the Sandlot and this one point, like
- 1:08:41it's one hundred and fifty degrees outside, I'm like, yeah, how are
- 1:08:45you not dead? Yeah? The world explode. But yeah, it's just
- 1:08:47it doesn't make sense to me. Yeah, but stuff like that with America.
- 1:08:51Of course, all due respect and love to American friends, but I
- 1:08:54mean, yeah, last time was there was like, okay, so this
- 1:08:56is the price of this snikets. Yeah, in the supermarket, put a
- 1:09:00tax in the price, tax in the price. I was infuriated. I
- 1:09:04had like a one dollar note or whatever, it was I was enough to
- 1:09:06buy this chocolate and he was like, it was a dollar six and I
- 1:09:09was like, I don't have a dollar six. I've got a dollar that's
- 1:09:12it's like ninety cents. He's like, but attack and I was like,
- 1:09:14no, no, no, that's not it. And particularly if you've got,
- 1:09:18you know, your last few bits of actual American money, it's like,
- 1:09:23well, I don't want to put this in the charity been at the
- 1:09:24airport. I want to spend on this stickers. And then the guy there
- 1:09:28bagging my grosses into a garb into a paper bag next to the guy that's
- 1:09:30putting it through, and I'm expected to give him money, and I'm like,
- 1:09:33huh, that's your job. That's your job, mister walters the employers.
- 1:09:39Yeah, but yeah, so he needs to beer and he grabs the
- 1:09:45sacred parchment and he just keeps going, doesn't he. That's that's great,
- 1:09:50Len, he's just fubber gasses. Woman. No, you can stop doing
- 1:09:55that. Oh Jesus, oh god, yeah, putting in his ear like
- 1:09:59I was fantas Yeah, so he gets kicked out, even the stone cut
- 1:10:01of underwear. Now you like this reference, won't you? Indeed? Yes,
- 1:10:04because they burn it in the Ark of the Covenant. Yes, and
- 1:10:09all the ghosts come I was always like, from Indiana Jones, by the
- 1:10:14way, for those other way from Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost.
- 1:10:16Yeah, I do love how the ghost come out. I was always
- 1:10:19thinking, is it because of is it the arc or is it because Homer's
- 1:10:23underpants it is grist? I think it's both. Yeah, yeah, but
- 1:10:27they you know, I've learned my lesson. He keeps banging on it.
- 1:10:30And they touched the stone of shame. Good the mark. Oh, it's
- 1:10:45just a birthmark. And I'll thank you not to stare. He's stacked chosen
- 1:10:48one. You are the chosen one whom the Sacred Parchment prophesied would lead us
- 1:10:58to glory. Now from the top of Mom's springfield for the coronation, Remove
- 1:11:04the stone of Shame, attach the stone of triumph. This is the thing
- 1:11:16though, I'm watching this going. So this came out nine to ninety five,
- 1:11:19and the movie Up came out, and I want to say, like
- 1:11:21two thousand and nine, two thousand and eight, right, and in that
- 1:11:25movie they put the cone of Shame on the dog. I'm like, rhymes
- 1:11:30of stone of shame cone of shame. So I wonder if that was just
- 1:11:36their little way of er they shout out a tribute, tribute or just or
- 1:11:41just the theft, got the straight up theft. But we always say to
- 1:11:44Jet when he used to be naughty, he used to have the cone,
- 1:11:47said when he was like, have an operation so it doesn't nibble the wound
- 1:11:50or whatever, And like, Jet, you want the kind of shame.
- 1:11:53He's like, I don't. I don't want the shame. I would be
- 1:11:56good. But Homer's now enjoying being the chosen one. This is apparently another
- 1:11:59reference. It is indeed, this is where he runs out and or justeah
- 1:12:04before the crowd of all these people. Yeah, that's a bit from a
- 1:12:08movie called The Last Emperor, came out in nineteen eighty seven. I think
- 1:12:10it one best picture. And yeah, I mean that image of the little
- 1:12:15boy because it's the story of the last Emperor of China before China became all
- 1:12:19communist, and yeah, this little boy was, yeah, basically put into
- 1:12:27this huge position of power as a literal child, and he sort of runs
- 1:12:30out in front of all these people who were basically bowing to him, and
- 1:12:32he's sort of playing back to the crowd. I don't know if I was
- 1:12:35just at the right age or if it really was shown a lot in like,
- 1:12:40you know, as examples of Hollywood culture around in the late eighties or
- 1:12:43whatever. But yeah, it's always on TV. Wizard of Oz was always
- 1:12:45on TV. It's an image that's really vivid in my mind, and it
- 1:12:47sort of exemplifies the late eighties to me. Just yeah, little boy read
- 1:12:54big red curtains running into this crowd. Yeah, from the Last Emperor.
- 1:12:57I love here that when I was like, meant to note, never do
- 1:13:00this. It would be amazing to had this kind of power. Though Oh
- 1:13:04goodness, yea, it makes people bow down all the time. But so
- 1:13:08he's enjoying beak, being that the chosen on getting paid on the couch,
- 1:13:11like he said, Oh god, and we get your favorite moment. Well,
- 1:13:15we know Lisa's trying to word him up. She's clearly pretty clever about
- 1:13:18you know, the perils of power. Tries to throw a little Shakespeare's way,
- 1:13:25but no. Homo suggests get a bunch of monkeys ressed up and renat
- 1:13:29the Civil War, which we get at the end. Almost Then he suggests
- 1:13:32that he should use his resources to help others, and then he and it's
- 1:13:35a home. It does here he goes, and we should do this.
- 1:13:38He's got mad with power like that, which guy Schweitzer? That's yeah,
- 1:13:45I mean, oh another reference with kids. You're like what, Yeah.
- 1:13:48And the more the more they learn about Albert Schweitz was like, yeah,
- 1:13:51this guy may have seemed like he was doing some good things, he was
- 1:13:54also terribly terribly racist. Then the Stonecutter's Daycare Center license pending grand opening,
- 1:14:02Moe get stuck on the slide, get the jaws of life burns. He's
- 1:14:04having a little feed with the kid on the swing. You feel the little
- 1:14:08urchin. And they paint the building a beautiful sky blue. And the graffiti
- 1:14:12was just all different version of the word graffiti. I did say graffiti by
- 1:14:15graffiti and I saw an albato on there? Or was there only of usat
- 1:14:18the word graffiti, different different fonts. Yeah. The helicopter crashes home and
- 1:14:24then says he's now spiritually fulfilled. It's beginning of a better world for all
- 1:14:28of us. Cuts the moat. We gotta kill him. And then they
- 1:14:32go to the stone Cutter World Council before they act irrationally, and they always
- 1:14:35say killing. What does George would suggest that take his voice? Bucks,
- 1:14:42But as long as their stone cutters, he's going to control our lives.
- 1:14:45And then cut to wait a minute, Baskin Robbins is now an abandoned store
- 1:14:48and it's the ancient mystic society of no Hommers. What a callback. You
- 1:14:54can't just keep hanging out with these globus monkeys. Somebody's going to get Paris
- 1:15:00nights. Oh, merge, kids, I missed my club. You know
- 1:15:08you are a member of a very exclusive club, the Black Panthers. No,
- 1:15:13the Family Simpson, which has just five members, and only two of
- 1:15:18those members have special rings. Yeah, I meant our wedding rings, you
- 1:15:28know, Marge, You're right. The Simpson family is the best possible club
- 1:15:33I could belong to. This club better be worth it, all right,
- 1:15:45all right, it's Leasa's term. Just a great heart felt ending, it
- 1:15:48isn't it, which felt somewhat rushed, But then and then it also wasn't
- 1:15:54He went from Homber being in charge to having nothing within aspects of like naughety
- 1:15:58seconds. That's for the third acted felt like it had regular first act,
- 1:16:00long second act, condensed third act. Yeah, but got everything we needed
- 1:16:06to, yeah, to get gave us everything we wanted, and you go
- 1:16:11to the very end, you get the gracing, and you do here Carl
- 1:16:15saying shut up, Oh really, you do stick around for the gracing.
- 1:16:17You never picked up on that one. A nice little hidden gill. Easter
- 1:16:20eggs, love the Easter eggs. Now. I would love to know what
- 1:16:24actual Freemasons think of this episode. Good point, he didn't have one of
- 1:16:27our patrons. He did say he was a free Mason. And I've just
- 1:16:30seen the message here saying that he would have volunteer to come into the show
- 1:16:32to talk about my goodness. But maybe in a future episode. But I
- 1:16:35would love to hear you, guys right in Simpson's mailbag at gmail dot com.
- 1:16:39If you're part of a secret society of some kind, let us know
- 1:16:42what's it like to have the power. If you could be part of any
- 1:16:45secret society, what you what power you would you want to have? Oh?
- 1:16:47Man, I would. I would love the power of free shopping,
- 1:16:51like like food shopping. I'd love to be able to go to the supermarket
- 1:16:56enough to worry about spending four hundred dollars. Well that's true, man,
- 1:16:59Given them you've got hungry, hungry children and all that kind of and they're
- 1:17:01getting bigger and bigger, bigger onli ate four fucking bowls of neutrograph for breakfast
- 1:17:06yesterday, four balls. He's going to be a little monster. Holy shit.
- 1:17:10Yeah, I mean, I'm saying that with with Lou's youngest son who
- 1:17:14was hitting the teenageers and just growing hair and devouring were animals. That's what
- 1:17:18we are. That's pretty much it. But you know, he'd had dinner
- 1:17:20the other night that he came over and he was sort of picking bits of
- 1:17:24our dinner, and then he got like sitting on the couch and watching that
- 1:17:27god awful Netflix movie Rebel Moon. Oh yeah, no good, no good.
- 1:17:30I saw someone say it's Star Wars, but it's just a bad Star
- 1:17:31Wars. It's a bad Star Wars. Uh. He's already eating a bunch,
- 1:17:38but he's like got to the gon to the cupboard and got three things
- 1:17:42of burger rings and twisties or whatever. Last time I had three of these,
- 1:17:45I was sick in the morning. I said, why are you doing
- 1:17:46it? But he devoured him and he was fine. I had burger rings
- 1:17:53for the first time in like ten years. Last week because a friend of
- 1:17:56mine came from America who actually brought me this record here. It is,
- 1:18:00oh my Starship Troopers all the way from America. It is the Blood and
- 1:18:03Bug Juice Marble Vinyl. Wow, I know right, Oh my god,
- 1:18:08how fucking cool is that? God? Damn? Yeah, So shout out
- 1:18:11to Matt Blom Mat. But as at present to him, we got him
- 1:18:15a magnet of the four of us because he's part of my groom's party and
- 1:18:17all of us who are part of my grooms party with they're hanging out that
- 1:18:19day when he came to visit us again, a little magnet to put in
- 1:18:21his fridgets back in America. We also made him an Australian care package.
- 1:18:26So I had burger rings, twisties, Tim TAM's all that kind of shit
- 1:18:29in there. And yeah, obviously I brought two backs of burger rings,
- 1:18:32one for me, one for the kids, and the kids loved them.
- 1:18:34I remember burger rings. I was a kid. They'd give me ulcers in
- 1:18:38the mouth. I think I might have had something similar, which is why
- 1:18:41I was never all that big on them. Yeah, used to eat it
- 1:18:43was like cheesels. I loved burger rings there. Yeah, I ate it.
- 1:18:45I was like, listen of the kids loved the burger rings. Yeah,
- 1:18:48no ulcers for them, which's good. The next generation, the next
- 1:18:53generation. But anyway, all right, guys, this has been our review

- 1:19:10month for the Movie Guys podcast along with Mitch. This month is going to
- 1:19:13be a water themed one. I'm thinking it's going to be Jaws. Looks
- 1:19:17like it's going to be the one. It's all right by me. Yes,
- 1:19:19Jaws is probably one. It is one of the greatest movies of all
- 1:19:23time. Right, do you think it's top ten greatest of all time?
- 1:19:25I would certainly put it in the top twenty five, twenty five. What
- 1:19:27do you think? What is your top three? Top of your head?
- 1:19:30This always changes its Star Wars up there. Yeah, absolutely, it's certainly
- 1:19:35my top ten. Years ago, I was commissioned by the Geelong Advertiser.
- 1:19:42The paper down here is when they still had money. They still were based
- 1:19:45on seal. Yeah, that's great to write like a top one hundred movies,
- 1:19:50like insert thing and how long does that take to put together? It
- 1:19:55took me a few weeks. Yeah. I sort of broke it down to
- 1:19:57categories and all that kind of thing and had my top top ten. What
- 1:20:00do I put in there? And Star Wars was definitely, and Their Raiders
- 1:20:02was in there. I can't remember if I put Godfather one and two and
- 1:20:05I'll count them as like one movie. Maybe what is your usual number one?
- 1:20:12Though you must my very well, it varies. I mean my number
- 1:20:16one for that one was actually it's called seven Samurai, so Japanese movie from
- 1:20:20the fifties, which is actually what rebelmon ripples. What a wanker? You
- 1:20:26say that? And then you watch seven Samurai, which is like a template
- 1:20:30for modern action movies. The Magnificent Seven is a remake of it. There's
- 1:20:33been a Bugs Life as a remake of it. There's so many and so
- 1:20:38many other movies. I've sort of used it as oh, okay, yeah,
- 1:20:41this is how you do it, this is how you you know,
- 1:20:44you bring together a cool group of characters. You give them a common cause.
- 1:20:46Some of them are really into it, some of them less. So
- 1:20:48they've all got opportunities for redemption they'veken or heroism or whatever. It's fantastic.
- 1:20:54And I know it sounds wanky to say, oh, it's a Japanese movie
- 1:20:56from the fifties, but you know it is fucking boss. Okay, it's
- 1:20:59really good. Look maybe among Generation X types like myself, where the kind
- 1:21:02of people who go this is actually really good. But look, Star Wars
- 1:21:06certainly in there. If if we're doing my top three, I'm assuming white
- 1:21:11men can't jump. Oh absolutely, that's somewhere in the top good movie.
- 1:21:15I'm gonna say Raiders, Star Wars, and Godfather one and two on and
- 1:21:17two. Okay, yeah, I did pick up Godfather's on Blu Ray as
- 1:21:20well. You should never seen them? Haven't you never seen them? Take
- 1:21:25take a little time. I looked at the other three and I was like,
- 1:21:27guys, said, don't bother didn't Father? If you like the first
- 1:21:30two, I'll lend you three. Okay, yeah, because three is not
- 1:21:35bad, but it just suffers by virtue of not being as good as one
- 1:21:40and two. I really bought up on Home and I was like, wait
- 1:21:41a minute, guys, said he had this. I'm just gonna borrow guys.
- 1:21:43You can, by the way, Deficts to remind me your peewee David's
- 1:21:46out there. Oh good, be sitting down the shelf. God knows how
