- 1:56Speaker 3: okay let's do it all right well we'll start with
- 1:58Speaker 3: the with the breakdown here so i'll get sidetracked anyway
- 2:01Speaker 3: get more.
- 2:02Speaker 5: Out of life go out to a movie.
- 2:15Speaker 4: You've all sacrificed so much to be here and be
- 2:18Speaker 4: a part of this thing we're doing.
- 2:22Speaker 1: This crew is made up of couples.
- 2:25Speaker 3: It's the first ever large-scale colonization mission. And everyone back
- 2:30Speaker 3: on Earth.
- 2:31Speaker 6: Is really grateful for your hard work.
- 2:37Speaker 3: And your courage.
- 2:39Speaker 2: We're making history here.
- 2:44Speaker 3: This is wheat. What are the odds of finding human
- 2:47Speaker 3: vegetation this far from Earth?
- 2:49Speaker 1: Who planted it?
- 2:56Speaker 2: You hear that?
- 2:57Speaker 3: What?
- 2:59Speaker 7: Nothing.
- 3:01Speaker 2: No birds.
- 3:03Speaker 8: No animals.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Nothing.
- 3:20Speaker 1: What happened here?
- 3:22Speaker 2: Come in. Do you read me?
- 3:43Speaker 1: Come in.
- 3:43Speaker 7: Come in.
- 3:47Speaker 9: What's happening?
- 3:50Speaker 2: I need you back here right now.
- 3:51Speaker 7: I need you back.
- 3:53Speaker 5: Calm down, sweetheart.
- 3:54Speaker 4: Calm down.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Don't tell me to calm down.
- 3:56Speaker 4: You're breaking up.
- 4:02Speaker 3: All of this is to start our new life.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Where is it?
- 4:17Speaker 3: Let me out! Holy! Almost heaven, West Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah.
- 4:37Speaker 8: River Life is old there, older than the trees.
- 4:41Speaker 9: Younger than the mountains, growing.
- 4:44Speaker 6: Like a breeze Country roads, take.
- 4:47Speaker 7: Me home To the place I.
- 4:51Speaker 9: Belong West Virginia, mountain mama Take me home, country roads.
- 5:00Speaker 3: We have once again gone out on the town. This
- 5:02Speaker 3: is probably the most out on the town movies we've
- 5:04Speaker 3: done in a row maybe ever. It's definitely in many
- 5:08Speaker 3: years that we've done current movies this many times in
- 5:12Speaker 3: a row. This week was, as previously mentioned, last episode.
- 5:18Speaker 3: We threatened it. We made good. This week's out on
- 5:20Speaker 3: the town feature is Alien Covenant. The year is 2017.
- 5:23Speaker 3: The director, Mr. Ridley Scott, has come back once again.
- 5:28Speaker 3: And the plot, according to IMDb, is the crew of
- 5:32Speaker 3: a colony ship bound for a remote planet discover an
- 5:35Speaker 3: uncharted paradise with a threat beyond their imagination and must
- 5:39Speaker 3: attempt a harrowing escape. Spoiler alert. We're going to run
- 5:43Speaker 3: the hell out of this. So hopefully you've already seen it. Now,
- 5:47Speaker 3: last week, you two teased the fact that you were
- 5:53Speaker 3: big Prometheus fans.
- 5:56Speaker 2: I loved it.
- 5:57Speaker 3: I feel like first we should throw, because I made
- 5:59Speaker 3: you stop last time, so let me at least get
- 6:01Speaker 3: your take on it. Mostly because I was like, I
- 6:04Speaker 3: kind of didn't want to go revisit. I thought about it.
- 6:06Speaker 3: I was like, maybe I should watch that one again too,
- 6:08Speaker 3: but I'm like, I kind of want to just deal
- 6:10Speaker 3: with Covenant as it is, but since it's so directly tied.
- 6:13Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 6:14Speaker 3: It's a franchise. I mean, the whole thing is, but
- 6:17Speaker 3: to me, these two are like, it is one and two.
- 6:20Speaker 3: They do kind of go together, even though they're sort
- 6:23Speaker 3: of different.
- 6:23Speaker 1: They're connected.
- 6:24Speaker 3: They're connected. So, I don't know. What was your take
- 6:27Speaker 3: on Prometheus? I don't want it to be a whole...
- 6:28Speaker 3: That should be its own episode somewhere down the line
- 6:30Speaker 3: since we never did that one. I don't know. Why
- 6:32Speaker 3: did you like it?
- 6:33Speaker 2: I liked it because I thought it was good. It
- 6:35Speaker 2: was interesting.
- 6:36Speaker 3: It was dark.
- 6:37Speaker 10: It combined people getting eaten with history. You know, not history,
- 6:40Speaker 10: but I mean the history of the.
- 6:42Speaker 3: The history of the franchise.
- 6:42Speaker 2: The franchise.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Or Earth, one or the other.
- 6:45Speaker 2: It moved well. It looked good. You know, there was...
- 6:49Speaker 2: You could kind of remember some of the characters, unlike.
- 6:51Speaker 3: I don't know about that. Other than David. Yeah, David
- 6:54Speaker 3: was about it.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Everybody liked David. I liked it because there was, throughout
- 7:00Speaker 1: the whole thing, there was this overwhelming sense of mystery
- 7:05Speaker 1: throughout the entire thing in the same way that King
- 7:08Speaker 1: Arthur didn't.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Just back to bashing the last movie.
- 7:15Speaker 1: And I was interested in the origin story of.
- 7:19Speaker 3: i think that's part of what annoyed me is i
- 7:21Speaker 3: didn't want to hear it oh you did but it's
- 7:24Speaker 3: weird it changes going into this one now so okay.
- 7:27Speaker 1: So i with that idea i think that we can
- 7:31Speaker 1: actually split probably in my guess here i think we
- 7:36Speaker 1: can split us into two camps and i will i
- 7:41Speaker 1: will expound on that later all right that we can.
- 7:43Speaker 3: Do you need to get any um prometheus thoughts did
- 7:46Speaker 3: you like I liked it.
- 7:48Speaker 4: I did not love it. I had a lot of
- 7:50Speaker 4: mixed feelings about it. And there was one thing that...
- 7:53Speaker 4: I mean, I love Naomi Rapace and I love Michael Fassbender.
- 7:56Speaker 4: They saved that movie for me big time. But one
- 7:59Speaker 4: thing that I could not get over is that she's
- 8:00Speaker 4: an archaeologist and I'm an anthropologist. And just the religious
- 8:05Speaker 4: undertones that kind of took over the entire movie kind
- 8:07Speaker 4: of bothered me a lot in that you can be
- 8:10Speaker 4: an anthropologist and a Christian. You can kind of negotiate
- 8:12Speaker 4: those things. But you cannot be an anthropologist... And not.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Believe in Darwinism? You just can't do it?
- 8:18Speaker 1: You can't.
- 8:20Speaker 4: So I was just like, from the outset, I was like, uh-huh.
- 8:23Speaker 3: There's too much science in these scientists. We'll have none
- 8:27Speaker 3: of that.
- 8:27Speaker 4: Anyways, so I was like, science fiction, my ass.
- 8:31Speaker 2: You know, I think when I.
- 8:32Speaker 10: Go to a film, you know how it's supposed to
- 8:35Speaker 10: be suspended disbelief or whatever. It's like, I just don't
- 8:38Speaker 10: even believe in anything when I go see a movie anymore.
- 8:40Speaker 10: i'm like it's all ridiculous as long.
- 8:42Speaker 1: As there are explosions and blood splattering the windows.
- 8:48Speaker 3: I do like those things but i don't know i
- 8:51Speaker 3: i guess i liked it the least then because i
- 8:53Speaker 3: had a lot of issues with it and i have
- 8:55Speaker 3: not revisited it so i do feel like i want
- 8:57Speaker 3: to maybe in the near future to get back into
- 9:00Speaker 3: it and try to figure out exactly it was just
- 9:02Speaker 3: like so much of it rubbed me the wrong way
- 9:05Speaker 3: some of it A lot of it was the same
- 9:08Speaker 3: thing that everyone else seemed to complain about, which was
- 9:11Speaker 3: characters and decisions that they made. So, like, I won't
- 9:15Speaker 3: even get back into that because I'm going to revisit
- 9:17Speaker 3: it in this one. But other than that, I think
- 9:21Speaker 3: I just wasn't... That's the thing. They delve into this
- 9:25Speaker 3: history and I'm like, I don't really want to know
- 9:29Speaker 3: for sure. I think I liked the complete unknown setup
- 9:32Speaker 3: of the original Alien. The fact that we just get
- 9:35Speaker 3: on this planet, there's a ship, there are these eggs,
- 9:37Speaker 3: who the fuck knows? And that's the way the characters
- 9:40Speaker 3: come into it, and I kind of liked it like that.
- 9:42Speaker 3: So this was delving into history that we didn't need,
- 9:47Speaker 3: and then on top of that, I felt like it
- 9:48Speaker 3: was also relatively boring. I was like, I don't like
- 9:53Speaker 3: the engineers. I don't like them in general as characters.
- 9:57Speaker 3: So then it took, I mean, that was so much
- 9:59Speaker 3: of the story. that I'm like there's not much here
- 10:01Speaker 3: to like afterwards I do like as you mentioned those
- 10:04Speaker 3: two main members of the cast are pretty good and
- 10:05Speaker 3: that's the saving grace of it if there is one
- 10:08Speaker 3: but that was most of my takeaway I feel.
- 10:10Speaker 10: Like Prometheus was an excuse to show like made into
- 10:15Speaker 10: sets all of the previous sketches we saw For various
- 10:19Speaker 10: alien films, we're.
- 10:20Speaker 3: Like, what is that? What is this?
- 10:22Speaker 2: Oh, there it is. That's what I like to do.
- 10:23Speaker 3: I'll take that any day of the week. If I
- 10:25Speaker 3: can just go over to Giger's house and touch things,
- 10:27Speaker 3: which they probably would kick me out.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Because, you know, a lot of it was that.
- 10:30Speaker 3: It was like, oh, wow. Again, sets I love.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I kind of felt, though, that that was what made
- 10:37Speaker 1: her as a character compelling because she was thrust into
- 10:40Speaker 1: this situation where, you know... None of it made sense.
- 10:45Speaker 1: It was like total chaos. You're like, who are these
- 10:47Speaker 1: giant guys? That makes no sense. She's on a strange planet.
- 10:50Speaker 1: She's getting bombarded with crazy situation after crazy situation. That's
- 10:55Speaker 1: what was interesting to me about it. That's what kept
- 10:58Speaker 1: me interested. Plus, you're like, oh, there's the mystery of
- 11:02Speaker 1: the origin story.
- 11:02Speaker 3: What the hell is that all about? And we still
- 11:04Speaker 3: didn't know at the end.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I thought that was fun.
- 11:08Speaker 10: No?
- 11:09Speaker 3: I just like the... I just like the... the ship
- 11:12Speaker 3: jockey the way he was i didn't like the i
- 11:14Speaker 3: don't know i didn't like it being an engineer i
- 11:16Speaker 3: didn't like changing the things that he'd created in like
- 11:20Speaker 3: the 70s you know and then coming back all these
- 11:22Speaker 3: years later and going nah screw all that here's what
- 11:25Speaker 3: really happened i'm just like but it was cool the
- 11:27Speaker 3: way it was like.
- 11:29Speaker 1: So then we have to talk about then all.
- 11:31Speaker 3: Right so then now moving into this new one Where
- 11:37Speaker 3: do we begin with Covenant? I have a lot of thoughts.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Most of them are kind of grand. It is, if
- 11:42Speaker 3: we're referring to last week, like last week's dumb movie
- 11:45Speaker 3: was just like, I don't know what the hell we're
- 11:47Speaker 3: going to talk about. We had to come up with
- 11:49Speaker 3: very specific things that were happening on screen because there
- 11:51Speaker 3: was nothing bigger going on in our dumb King Arthur movie.
- 11:54Speaker 3: But now that this one is kind of the opposite,
- 11:58Speaker 3: I'm forgetting specifics of what's going on on the screen,
- 12:01Speaker 3: but at the same time, I'm overwhelmed with huge, big
- 12:05Speaker 3: Topics and questions to get into. So, I don't know.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Where do we want to begin? Do we want to
- 12:09Speaker 3: start with more specific screen time kind of things?
- 12:13Speaker 1: Well, let me throw this out as a preface. I
- 12:17Speaker 1: feel like the people that loved it or hated it
- 12:21Speaker 1: fall into two camps. There are the people that just
- 12:23Speaker 1: wanted to go and experience an awesome, you know, blood splatter.
- 12:28Speaker 11: You definitely get that. There are the other people that
- 12:33Speaker 11: wanted to see the origin story of alien and, you know, and,
- 12:40Speaker 11: and went with that in mind. And that's what they
- 12:43Speaker 11: were expecting because of Prometheus.
- 12:45Speaker 3: I think there's a third cam that was kind of
- 12:49Speaker 3: also like, I just want to see another alien movie
- 12:51Speaker 3: because for a while we kept knocking them out every
- 12:54Speaker 3: five to 10 years.
- 12:55Speaker 1: That's why those worked because of the simplicity of it.
- 12:59Speaker 1: It was just, Oh, person gets into situation. Then it's
- 13:02Speaker 1: nonstop action till.
- 13:04Speaker 3: The end of the movie.
- 13:05Speaker 1: And I get that, and I love those. That's great, but,
- 13:09Speaker 1: you know.
- 13:09Speaker 3: I feel like it hits all of those, though.
- 13:12Speaker 9: Really?
- 13:12Speaker 3: Is the thing, yeah.
- 13:13Speaker 7: Oh, my God.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Within the first... I mean, I don't know how long
- 13:16Speaker 2: the movie was.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Four hours?
- 13:17Speaker 2: I fell asleep.
- 13:19Speaker 10: And then at one point, I turned to Paul and said, oh,
- 13:21Speaker 10: my God, I wish they would just hurry up and
- 13:23Speaker 10: eat everybody so this movie would be over.
- 13:25Speaker 2: And that was in the first, like... Death scene.
- 13:28Speaker 3: I mean, they did. I mean, it is funny how
- 13:31Speaker 3: much it becomes a little more of a conventional horror
- 13:33Speaker 3: movie this time around. Because, I mean, the very first
- 13:36Speaker 3: one was pretty much horror. It just set it in space.
- 13:39Speaker 3: But it's an old school horror movie. And then since then,
- 13:42Speaker 3: they've kind of gone further and further. Like, it's nothing
- 13:44Speaker 3: but action by the time Cameron comes in. And then
- 13:46Speaker 3: the next ones are, like, mostly sci-fi stuff going on
- 13:50Speaker 3: with some action scenes. But, like, this time it kind
- 13:53Speaker 3: of comes back around to, yeah, we're going to throw
- 13:55Speaker 3: a lot of, like, theory and and sci-fi ideas in
- 13:59Speaker 3: here but we're also going to immerse it in a
- 14:01Speaker 3: ton of gore because we also know that's become kind
- 14:05Speaker 3: of a thing with this crowd the people that like
- 14:07Speaker 3: it like chestbursters and they want to see blood and
- 14:10Speaker 3: gore so they were just like oh you like that
- 14:11Speaker 3: here watch we dial this up to 11 so i
- 14:14Speaker 3: think it hits all of those in a weird.
- 14:16Speaker 4: Way Plus some psychological thriller.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Plus some weird, a lot of weird psychological stuff if
- 14:22Speaker 3: you want to stop and think about it all. But
- 14:24Speaker 3: I feel like you could kind of do both. You
- 14:25Speaker 3: could just tune yourself out of all that and watch
- 14:28Speaker 3: the splatter because there's plenty of gore. But I also
- 14:32Speaker 3: feel like it gets more conventional. Back to that kind
- 14:34Speaker 3: of a conventional horror idea in a way that it
- 14:37Speaker 3: also did what, I mean, this became like in the
- 14:40Speaker 3: 80s slasher era. Like, okay, it's a sequel. The first
- 14:43Speaker 3: thing you do is up the amount of people involved.
- 14:46Speaker 5: Mm-hmm.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Going to the camp or going to sleep that night
- 14:49Speaker 3: or whatever dumb characters slashing them all. You want to
- 14:52Speaker 3: add more people every time and find new and more
- 14:54Speaker 3: inventive ways to kill them. That's exactly what they did.
- 14:57Speaker 3: It was like I'm looking at the little cast photo
- 14:59Speaker 3: there of them on the ship and I'm like, that's
- 15:01Speaker 3: like three times as many people as we used to have.
- 15:03Speaker 3: So now they're like, we can kill a lot more
- 15:05Speaker 3: people now.
- 15:06Speaker 4: And they're trying to make you care about their deaths
- 15:08Speaker 4: more by having them be couples.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:10Speaker 2: They might be like, oh no, they lost their wives.
- 15:13Speaker 3: There's relationships at stake. Danny McBride.
- 15:16Speaker 2: You don't want him to die.
- 15:20Speaker 1: There's some people that probably. I thought for sure he
- 15:22Speaker 1: was going to die in the first five minutes.
- 15:24Speaker 3: I kind of did.
- 15:26Speaker 1: He was going to be there for a brief comic relief.
- 15:28Speaker 2: And say something Danny McBride-ish.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Other than Fassbender, he's kind of the most recognizable person.
- 15:34Speaker 3: So you're kind of like, yeah, I assumed he was
- 15:36Speaker 3: just there to throw somebody in that you weren't expecting,
- 15:39Speaker 3: and then he'd get off real quick. Yeah, and James Franco.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Yeah, that was great.
- 15:43Speaker 3: I'm watching the screen going, that is James Franco, right?
- 15:48Speaker 3: It's not like his brother. It kind of looks like
- 15:51Speaker 3: James Franco. No, that really is James Franco.
- 15:53Speaker 1: He's kind of known for that, though, doing the odd
- 15:54Speaker 1: cameo where he just sort of disappears.
- 15:56Speaker 3: I did like that about him.
- 15:57Speaker 10: But you know, the best part of the entire movie
- 16:00Speaker 10: to me was the psychological aspect of the David Walter.
- 16:04Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely.
- 16:05Speaker 2: That was really something.
- 16:06Speaker 10: I think Michael Fassbender did an excellent job You really
- 16:10Speaker 10: felt something for the more robotic one and the one
- 16:13Speaker 10: that was more human and narcissistic.
- 16:17Speaker 3: They've kind of done that the whole time. I was
- 16:19Speaker 3: talking about that last night with someone you may know.
- 16:23Speaker 3: I was talking about how much the synthetics have played
- 16:27Speaker 3: into the entire arc of the story. Because if we
- 16:30Speaker 3: go back to the original alien, it's almost the same thing.
- 16:35Speaker 3: He's almost the David. He's completely... working against the humans
- 16:40Speaker 3: he's working to provide the alien whatever it needs to
- 16:44Speaker 3: move on to its next phase so i mean this
- 16:46Speaker 3: one just again takes it up a couple notches but
- 16:49Speaker 3: then we get to like the next one bishop is
- 16:53Speaker 3: like the one synthetic that didn't screw us over and
- 16:55Speaker 3: we assumed that he would coming out of the first
- 16:57Speaker 3: movie you're just like oh don't trust that guy so
- 17:00Speaker 3: like he had to continually kind of like prove himself
- 17:03Speaker 3: as like no no no i'm you know i'm not
- 17:06Speaker 3: I'm not trying to screw over humanity. I'm doing what
- 17:08Speaker 3: I can to help you guys because that's what I'm
- 17:10Speaker 3: here to do. So he's, and we kind of stuck
- 17:13Speaker 3: with him. I mean, he does kind of come back
- 17:15Speaker 3: into the third one and they work him back in
- 17:18Speaker 3: as his human self. So it's kind of been a
- 17:19Speaker 3: while till we get another like full-fledged synthetic thrown in
- 17:23Speaker 3: the mix in Prometheus, I guess. So now we've come
- 17:27Speaker 3: full circle with it back to being like, what way
- 17:29Speaker 3: can I screw over the humans in this scenario? But
- 17:34Speaker 3: he has such a much bigger reasoning for it so
- 17:39Speaker 3: i know that that i guess is one of the
- 17:40Speaker 3: things we can launch into because again everything is huge
- 17:44Speaker 3: for me i mean everything is just giant theories.
- 17:48Speaker 1: So that's a really big wheel.
- 17:50Speaker 3: It and that's what i think it is one of
- 17:52Speaker 3: those like when i finished watching it i was like
- 17:54Speaker 3: nah it's all right like i like it more than
- 17:56Speaker 3: prometheus it still has some problems but whatever and it
- 18:00Speaker 3: is one of those like just in the last day
- 18:02Speaker 3: of thinking about it And then like expanding on these
- 18:06Speaker 3: crazy ideas that it brings up, I'm like, maybe it's
- 18:09Speaker 3: a better movie than I think it is. If in
- 18:11Speaker 3: fact all of this was planned ahead of time to
- 18:14Speaker 3: be involved in this plot and something for you to
- 18:17Speaker 3: sit there and figure out later.
- 18:19Speaker 4: I would have thought immediately that it was a much
- 18:21Speaker 4: better movie if all of the twists were less predictable.
- 18:25Speaker 4: If it had actually taken me by surprise, I think
- 18:27Speaker 4: I would have walked away thinking much more highly of it.
- 18:30Speaker 4: And I was in your boat.
- 18:31Speaker 3: I agree.
- 18:32Speaker 4: Feeling like, all right, I like it better than Prometheus.
- 18:35Speaker 4: I like the way the whole story went, but it
- 18:37Speaker 4: would have actually blown my mind a little bit. If
- 18:41Speaker 4: I hadn't seen, like, all of that shit.
- 18:43Speaker 3: I'm kind of wondering what twists you're even... Other than,
- 18:45Speaker 3: I guess, the big finale win. But even that, I
- 18:48Speaker 3: was kind of like, well, we all assume that's what's
- 18:50Speaker 3: going on, right? Like, it's not just me.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Right, but it would have been way better if it
- 18:55Speaker 2: hadn't turned out that way.
- 18:56Speaker 3: I was going to say, it would have been actually
- 18:58Speaker 3: more of a twist to me had it actually been Walter. Yeah.
- 19:02Speaker 3: And not David.
- 19:03Speaker 9: Right.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Again, that would have been like a surprise. But like,
- 19:06Speaker 3: that is a good moment. Like, not to jump all
- 19:09Speaker 3: the way to the end, more or less. But I'm
- 19:10Speaker 3: like that since we're on it. That moment of like. okay,
- 19:14Speaker 3: we just revealed to you what we all were assuming anyway. Oh,
- 19:17Speaker 3: and you're about to be frozen for God knows how long,
- 19:20Speaker 3: and you can't do a damn thing about it. And
- 19:21Speaker 3: by the time you get there, it'll be too late.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Everything's gone to hell.
- 19:23Speaker 2: And also, that's another problem that I had of that repetitive, oh, hey,
- 19:26Speaker 2: we made it off the planet. Oh, my God, we're
- 19:28Speaker 2: on the, oh, what's.
- 19:29Speaker 9: Going to happen now?
- 19:30Speaker 7: Oh, blah.
- 19:30Speaker 1: I mean, that's... You knew that was coming because the
- 19:33Speaker 1: movie kept going. Because it kept going, and everyone... Oh, well,
- 19:36Speaker 1: there's some tragedy coming. I know it.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Again, and to, I mean.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Oh, that and the claw, the robotic claw thing. Well,
- 19:44Speaker 1: just how many like, you know, giant scenario, especially to.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Luckily they had it.
- 19:51Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 19:51Speaker 3: To be the same director. It'd be different if it
- 19:53Speaker 3: was like some kid that like grew up watching alien
- 19:56Speaker 3: and aliens and wanted to like, kind of knock off
- 19:58Speaker 3: the thing that he loved growing up. But when it
- 20:00Speaker 3: is Ridley Scott and he's like, I think in the
- 20:03Speaker 3: end we should suck him out into space. I'm like,
- 20:06Speaker 3: Did you see your movie? Did you do that before?
- 20:08Speaker 3: That is your finale in the last time you did this.
- 20:12Speaker 4: I mean, no, there's seriously just like so many. It's
- 20:15Speaker 4: just this movie was just taking bits from all of
- 20:19Speaker 4: the other movies and just putting them together.
- 20:23Speaker 1: That was disappointing.
- 20:24Speaker 3: My takeaway, and again, almost jumping to the end, but
- 20:27Speaker 3: we'll come back around to it. But that was my thing.
- 20:29Speaker 3: If we're just talking about like storyline kind of structuring,
- 20:33Speaker 3: by the end, I'm like, What the hell was the point?
- 20:36Speaker 3: Because nothing really, like all we did, other than the
- 20:39Speaker 3: expanding on the David story and how it all happens,
- 20:42Speaker 3: but I'm like, as a movie, as you're coming in,
- 20:44Speaker 3: nothing really gets accomplished by anyone other than David. I'm
- 20:47Speaker 3: just like, we come in, they're asleep on a ship,
- 20:51Speaker 3: like all of these open up with, they get woken up,
- 20:54Speaker 3: shit goes wrong. Fight with aliens. A whole bunch of
- 20:57Speaker 3: people get killed. They suck an alien out into space
- 20:59Speaker 3: like they always do. And then you're back into like
- 21:02Speaker 3: hyper sleep and you're back like drifting off into space
- 21:06Speaker 3: again like they always end. I'm like, it's almost the
- 21:08Speaker 3: exact same scenario over and over and over again. I
- 21:11Speaker 3: feel like that's the part they should. change up a
- 21:14Speaker 3: little bit even.
- 21:15Speaker 4: From like the earliest part of the movie like the
- 21:18Speaker 4: expedition and then someone like gets you know infected on
- 21:21Speaker 4: the expedition like wow.
- 21:23Speaker 10: And everybody's making bad decisions and no one is wearing
- 21:26Speaker 10: a helmet this is a planet you don't even know
- 21:29Speaker 10: i don't even.
- 21:29Speaker 4: Know that there's not pathogens in the air and none of.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Them were wearing helmets that was my problem with prometheus
- 21:34Speaker 3: and like that i guess to come back to that
- 21:36Speaker 3: now so that's that was my issue with that right
- 21:39Speaker 3: and that's I'm looking at these because I did check
- 21:42Speaker 3: into it because I was like, I had so many
- 21:43Speaker 3: issues with kind of not even like writing as far
- 21:46Speaker 3: as dialogue, but writing as far as overall story and
- 21:49Speaker 3: how they're creating these characters. And like none of them
- 21:52Speaker 3: are ever Ridley Scott. In fact, he doesn't seem to
- 21:54Speaker 3: write like looking almost no writing credits whatsoever. So he
- 21:58Speaker 3: doesn't seem like he wants anything to do with that
- 22:00Speaker 3: part of it. And then like the I think Prometheus
- 22:05Speaker 3: had two writers, one of which was Lindelof. That's usually
- 22:08Speaker 3: pisses people off right there. And then coming into this one,
- 22:11Speaker 3: there's four different people. There's two story by and there's
- 22:14Speaker 3: two screenplay by. And I'm like, this is a lot
- 22:17Speaker 3: of people slapping characters together. And to me, that's the
- 22:21Speaker 3: part I'm like, not only is the other trappings of
- 22:24Speaker 3: a very traditional horror movie, but I feel like in
- 22:26Speaker 3: these two movies, these last two, they've become really traditional
- 22:31Speaker 3: horror characters. Very traditional. just constantly making stupid decisions. And
- 22:36Speaker 3: it's different when it's dumb teenagers high in the woods. Yeah,
- 22:40Speaker 3: they all make dumb decisions, but these are supposed to
- 22:43Speaker 3: be highly trained, almost all scientists, almost all had been
- 22:48Speaker 3: doing this kind of space travel for years and years
- 22:52Speaker 3: to be able to get to this point. They wouldn't
- 22:53Speaker 3: just throw newbies in the middle of this long-term mission.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Odds are they're very skilled.
- 22:59Speaker 9: Yes, yes, but.
- 23:01Speaker 1: They've been asleep for however many years.
- 23:04Speaker 3: They're really groggy.
- 23:05Speaker 11: They've got all this unused gear that they're really jealous
- 23:08Speaker 11: about using.
- 23:09Speaker 3: Hold on, I've got all this stuff in my eye.
- 23:11Speaker 3: I can't really fight right now. I'm really sleepy.
- 23:15Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 23:15Speaker 3: That's the part that I feel like is very different
- 23:17Speaker 3: on these last two movies. Because that's the thing. It's like, well,
- 23:21Speaker 3: the other ones were sort of horror or definitely action.
- 23:25Speaker 3: But when I look back, I'm like, that original Nostromo crew...
- 23:30Speaker 3: nobody's that stupid. Like Veronica gets a little whiny and
- 23:34Speaker 3: screams a lot, but like, she still seems like she
- 23:37Speaker 3: was good at her job. She's not an idiot. Like
- 23:40Speaker 3: they all like to complain, but I'm like, everybody still
- 23:42Speaker 3: seems like number one, real characters. Like that, that's one
- 23:45Speaker 3: of those things I give that first movie is like,
- 23:48Speaker 3: you do care about every one of those people and
- 23:51Speaker 3: you understand the situation they're in and why they're bickering
- 23:55Speaker 3: before we even get to the alien. Like you understand
- 23:57Speaker 3: the scenario of what's going on there. just as great
- 24:01Speaker 3: character development and even into aliens like you love half
- 24:05Speaker 3: of those weird marines and like you get into the
- 24:08Speaker 3: whole dynamic that's going on with even like lesser characters
- 24:12Speaker 3: so many characters in that movie versus the first one
- 24:15Speaker 3: but you kind of know almost all of them so
- 24:18Speaker 3: to get into this where i'm like i couldn't name
- 24:21Speaker 3: almost any of those characters I don't really care about
- 24:24Speaker 3: most of them.
- 24:25Speaker 4: I forgot about the context of most of them.
- 24:28Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, they were married to him. Oh, they're married. Yeah.
- 24:34Speaker 3: I was like, yeah, I was like, crud up, you know, again, we,
- 24:36Speaker 3: I guess he's the other recognizable one. So I do,
- 24:38Speaker 3: you know, you remember him because he's got a good
- 24:40Speaker 3: amount of stuff sort of hinging on him. And then like,
- 24:44Speaker 3: other than the, you know, the two or three other
- 24:46Speaker 3: ones that come into play the whole movie, um, All
- 24:49Speaker 3: of those other people really are just standard horror movie
- 24:51Speaker 3: characters waiting to be dispensed. Just disposable. Just waiting to
- 24:55Speaker 3: be offed as soon as humanly possible or alienly. So
- 25:01Speaker 3: I don't know. I feel like that's a big difference
- 25:03Speaker 3: that I don't remember in those first. And that's what
- 25:06Speaker 3: I kept taking away as I was sitting in the theater.
- 25:07Speaker 3: I'm already going, this feels different. It's like I didn't.
- 25:11Speaker 3: I wasn't angry at the characters in those original movies.
- 25:15Speaker 3: I was, like, fighting for them. I was like, oh, no,
- 25:17Speaker 3: don't turn there. I want you to live. This one,
- 25:19Speaker 3: I'm just like, oh, this idiot's going to die. And, like,
- 25:21Speaker 3: that's your normal horror movie mode. You're just like, oh,
- 25:23Speaker 3: about time for them to go. Like, you're just sort
- 25:25Speaker 3: of waiting for the next person to get off.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Yeah, they were very shallow characters except for the synthetics.
- 25:32Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Again, that and the female lead.
- 25:35Speaker 3: The captain tried, but he really didn't have much to say.
- 25:38Speaker 1: They didn't have enough time to develop him because there
- 25:42Speaker 1: was this... allusion that there was some sort of faith
- 25:45Speaker 1: based conflict and you're like well there's not enough info
- 25:49Speaker 1: about that we'll get back to that one because that
- 25:52Speaker 1: is a bigger thing but I don't know I was
- 25:54Speaker 1: just like character wise I feel like that's a big
- 25:56Speaker 1: difference that I don't know was that obvious to everyone
- 26:00Speaker 1: or was it just a weird thing I was tuned
- 26:02Speaker 1: into totally not obvious.
- 26:03Speaker 10: I mean I think I like the first one because
- 26:05Speaker 10: I like Numi Rapace I just think she's a great
- 26:08Speaker 10: little actress and she's I just like her.
- 26:10Speaker 3: She's cute she's a tiny tiny woman she fits in.
- 26:11Speaker 10: Your pocket you know She's good and so I root
- 26:15Speaker 10: for her But everybody else in that film.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Even with her Does she have a ton Again I'm
- 26:22Speaker 3: trying to remember I don't remember a ton about her
- 26:25Speaker 3: character Did they even really bother to develop her character
- 26:27Speaker 3: Where I'm like Ripley Shit you could write books on
- 26:31Speaker 3: Ripley Even from just that first movie You totally get
- 26:35Speaker 3: why she is The person that she is And why
- 26:37Speaker 3: she makes the decisions she does Whereas by the end
- 26:41Speaker 3: of that Prometheus you're just like why are you running
- 26:44Speaker 3: from that rolling ship? Just turn, idiot. So, I don't know.
- 26:49Speaker 3: I mean, there's so many things that they do that
- 26:51Speaker 3: are just dumb horror movie maneuver. Like, again, that was
- 26:53Speaker 3: the main thing, like, in the theater.
- 26:55Speaker 10: Like, the shower scene was like a totally bad horror
- 26:57Speaker 10: film thing.
- 26:58Speaker 3: That's the part I saw the trailer, and I was
- 27:00Speaker 3: just like, this is not going to be the same
- 27:02Speaker 3: kind of movie.
- 27:03Speaker 1: That stunk of Friday the 13th.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah. and i feel like and that's that's but
- 27:08Speaker 3: but they kept making those that was in like even
- 27:11Speaker 3: back to prometheus like the the scientist amazing quotes who
- 27:14Speaker 3: like doesn't have his helmet on and then comes in
- 27:18Speaker 3: contact with some strange creature that he's never seen anything
- 27:23Speaker 3: like it before on a weird planet that he just
- 27:25Speaker 3: got to a little while ago and he's like hey
- 27:28Speaker 3: buddy how's it going oh gee i wonder what's gonna
- 27:30Speaker 3: happen now what What scientist just flings himself in the
- 27:34Speaker 3: face of some potentially dangerous animal and, gee, wonder what happens.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Apparently quite a few of them.
- 27:41Speaker 3: In that movie, yes. And that was my problem. They're
- 27:43Speaker 3: not intelligent characters. They're just dumb horror characters. And I
- 27:48Speaker 3: felt kind of like that with this one, too. Like,
- 27:51Speaker 3: watching them sort of bumble that first half as they're all, like,
- 27:54Speaker 3: falling down. And, like, it's very traditional horror of, like,
- 27:57Speaker 3: I'm running away from the killer. Oh, I fell down. Oh,
- 27:59Speaker 3: I'm going to die now. So I'm just like, that
- 28:02Speaker 3: didn't happen in the old movies. Like, I don't know
- 28:05Speaker 3: if purposely trying to do something else or if it
- 28:07Speaker 3: just comes natural to writers now because they're used to
- 28:10Speaker 3: those scenarios where in 79 nobody was doing that stuff yet. Like,
- 28:16Speaker 3: slashers weren't even a thing yet. So it wasn't a cliché.
- 28:20Speaker 3: At that point. It wasn't created at that point. So.
- 28:22Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't know which version it is.
- 28:25Speaker 3: If they meant to make it more like a slasher movie.
- 28:28Speaker 3: Or if it just. By their very nature as modern
- 28:31Speaker 3: day writers. They write things in that pattern now. But the.
- 28:35Speaker 3: Let's call them up now. How many times they fall
- 28:38Speaker 3: down in a puddle of blood? I know.
- 28:40Speaker 2: How many times can you slip? You know blood's slippery, right?
- 28:43Speaker 2: Don't get in the blood.
- 28:44Speaker 3: You're going to fall. Again, don't get me wrong. If
- 28:46Speaker 3: you're just a gore person, those scenes are kind of cool.
- 28:49Speaker 3: There is tons of blood. Oxygen tank. On your own
- 28:53Speaker 3: ship What the fuck You're a scientist right So like.
- 28:57Speaker 4: If they had any other profession Besides being those highly
- 29:00Speaker 4: trained astronauts And dealing.
- 29:02Speaker 3: With space flight Their entire life or at least professional
- 29:05Speaker 3: life Yeah.
- 29:07Speaker 4: So they wouldn't make Illogical decisions.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Yeah if it was just some idiot off the street
- 29:11Speaker 3: that got thrown in the middle of this That's one
- 29:12Speaker 3: thing but like these are people Who spend most of
- 29:15Speaker 3: their lives around Oxygen tanks and they have a case
- 29:17Speaker 3: full of guns Over there like that's lesson number one, right?
- 29:20Speaker 3: Don't fire it at these oxygen tanks.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Or maybe don't even put the oxygen tanks anywhere near
- 29:27Speaker 1: the guns.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Or put like a big lead sheet in between. You know,
- 29:31Speaker 3: like giant wall there.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Whoever laid this out, I think really needs to reconsider
- 29:36Speaker 1: their job.
- 29:37Speaker 3: Probably.
- 29:39Speaker 4: And also, why can the inside of the sleep pods catch.
- 29:44Speaker 3: On I don't know.
- 29:45Speaker 5: Why? Right.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Why is it?
- 29:47Speaker 3: Pure oxygen.
- 29:48Speaker 2: It goes wrong and you catch on fire. And there's no, like,
- 29:51Speaker 2: emergency safety precautions.
- 29:54Speaker 3: And then my thing was, why were they then trying
- 29:56Speaker 3: to smash the glass? I'm like, he's dead now. Like,
- 29:59Speaker 3: all you're going to do is get the fire to spread. Like,
- 30:02Speaker 3: leave it in there until it, like, completely suffocates the fire.
- 30:05Speaker 3: Because you're not saving him. Like, you're looking at him
- 30:08Speaker 3: on fire right now in a contained environment. That's not, no.
- 30:12Speaker 3: There's no helping him at this point. Yeah, there's no like...
- 30:15Speaker 3: Just go ahead and jettison that pod right now. Latch.
- 30:18Speaker 1: And how did it catch fire to begin with?
- 30:20Speaker 3: Well, I mean, they put that fire button. They probably
- 30:22Speaker 3: shouldn't have pushed that. Do you want to catch this
- 30:25Speaker 3: guy on fire? Just hit the button.
- 30:26Speaker 4: It doesn't make any sense because he was in the
- 30:27Speaker 4: sleep pod and the ship rattled around.
- 30:30Speaker 2: And then it just caught on fire.
- 30:32Speaker 3: Like they do.
- 30:34Speaker 4: I guess maybe there was some kind of electrical short
- 30:36Speaker 4: or something.
- 30:37Speaker 3: He was smoking.
- 30:39Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 30:40Speaker 3: It would be ridiculous. Don't light up in the oxygen tank.
- 30:43Speaker 1: The light was lit.
- 30:45Speaker 3: He should have known better.
- 30:46Speaker 2: It's like when you turn on the grill and you're like.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Is it on? And then the flame shoots up out
- 30:55Speaker 3: of it. So I will, if we're talking about the
- 30:58Speaker 3: cast though, I do just for my own weird purposes
- 31:01Speaker 3: as being the person running this show, I'm sitting there going, oh,
- 31:05Speaker 3: she's been on the show. Like, it's weird when I
- 31:08Speaker 3: see that now. When I'm watching like a, it's different
- 31:10Speaker 3: if it's a weird little indie movie that I'm there
- 31:12Speaker 3: because of that. But when it's like a mainstream movie
- 31:15Speaker 3: that I really hadn't paid that much attention to the advertising, obviously,
- 31:18Speaker 3: because I'm just like, oh, Amy Simon. She's been on
- 31:21Speaker 3: the show before. Which one was she? The pilot girl.
- 31:24Speaker 3: The one that's flying the ship in the first time
- 31:26Speaker 3: and falls down in blood, which is what reminded me.
- 31:28Speaker 3: Slips in blood. Falls down in blood and then gets
- 31:30Speaker 3: killed pretty early. Slips in blood, gets killed. She's kind
- 31:32Speaker 3: of awesome and it's been on the show.
- 31:33Speaker 5: That's cool.
- 31:34Speaker 3: Good for her. No offense to her, but why she
- 31:37Speaker 3: had to be a dumb character that fell down in blood,
- 31:39Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 31:40Speaker 4: She seemed like she was going to be fucking on it.
- 31:41Speaker 4: And then as soon as shit hit the fan, she
- 31:45Speaker 4: was like, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.
- 31:46Speaker 3: Again, this is a weird scenario because in like her
- 31:49Speaker 3: indie movies, she's like super smart and like always, you know, again,
- 31:53Speaker 3: they go out of their way to write nothing but
- 31:55Speaker 3: dialogue because that's what you do in an indie movie.
- 31:57Speaker 3: In a big, you know, crazy studio movie, they just
- 32:00Speaker 3: offer as soon as possible. So I guess that's, you know.
- 32:04Speaker 3: cash in, I don't blame her. But it is funny that, like,
- 32:07Speaker 3: that is not at all what I expected her role
- 32:09Speaker 3: to be. I assume she would be kicking ass later on,
- 32:12Speaker 3: but nope, she just had to die like everybody else
- 32:14Speaker 3: in this cast.
- 32:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that her character actually had more potential
- 32:19Speaker 4: for development than a lot of the other ones. Like,
- 32:21Speaker 4: I knew who she was, and then.
- 32:23Speaker 3: She died, and I was like, oh well. I guess
- 32:24Speaker 3: I don't need to know who she is. Again, I
- 32:29Speaker 3: have a lot of grand themes. Are we ready to
- 32:31Speaker 3: move into those, or were there other, like, minute little
- 32:35Speaker 3: moments we wanted to discuss oh why was the.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Wheat so big the wheat was huge the wheat was
- 32:41Speaker 2: huge big wheat.
- 32:42Speaker 3: Why didn't they have big wheat that's why they stopped at.
- 32:44Speaker 2: That point is that because they were taller they were taller.
- 32:47Speaker 3: Yeah maybe that's it just spent generations getting bigger and bigger.
- 32:51Speaker 10: Yeah so wait a minute let me go back to
- 32:52Speaker 10: this here's a weird thing that i was trying to
- 32:54Speaker 10: figure out so there were no birds and no animals
- 32:59Speaker 10: is it because the.
- 33:01Speaker 2: Aliens had eaten everything?
- 33:03Speaker 10: And if that was the case, then how come it
- 33:05Speaker 10: wasn't a planet populated with those things?
- 33:08Speaker 2: Everywhere. Or a few of them.
- 33:10Speaker 3: And are there bugs?
- 33:13Speaker 2: Well, there were bugs.
- 33:14Speaker 4: You're talking about how the virus either acted as a
- 33:18Speaker 4: host or just killed them outright.
- 33:20Speaker 3: It was just supposed to kill the animals.
- 33:21Speaker 1: Every living thing.
- 33:23Speaker 3: Yeah, wasn't that part of his plan? So it might
- 33:25Speaker 3: just kill the animals instead of being a host. It
- 33:26Speaker 3: killed all of the engineers.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Or, you know, there might not.
- 33:28Speaker 4: Have been any more xenomorphs or whatever because there was
- 33:31Speaker 4: no more food.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Because there was no more food, but they would eat
- 33:33Speaker 2: one another, probably. So they would just, like, hunt down
- 33:34Speaker 2: the spores.
- 33:37Speaker 10: Yeah, and then, okay, so this goes back to the
- 33:38Speaker 10: whole Prometheus thing, like in the first scene where the
- 33:41Speaker 10: engineer drinks the stuff and turns into whatever.
- 33:45Speaker 3: You know, like you do.
- 33:47Speaker 7: And then....
- 33:48Speaker 2: Then what?
- 33:50Speaker 3: Again, that was me for the whole movie for me.
- 33:52Speaker 3: I'm just like, and what? And then what?
- 33:56Speaker 10: But then David flies back and releases it on the
- 33:58Speaker 10: engineers who.
- 34:00Speaker 3: That Davey, he's a wild one. What the... A wily bastard,
- 34:03Speaker 3: isn't it? What the what?
- 34:04Speaker 2: So now we can get into grander themes. Because I'm
- 34:06Speaker 2: a simpleton sometimes. Especially when it comes to movies. I
- 34:09Speaker 2: just want it to be laid out. Because it's a
- 34:11Speaker 2: science fiction movie. It doesn't need to be grand.
- 34:14Speaker 3: Oh, well... To me, those work really well, though. I mean,
- 34:17Speaker 3: science fiction in general lends itself to nothing but... But
- 34:20Speaker 3: Alien wants to be grand.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Alien wants to.
- 34:23Speaker 4: It's very intent on being grand.
- 34:27Speaker 1: So, alright.
- 34:29Speaker 3: We get into much bigger questions. No, I will say,
- 34:32Speaker 3: this is like, for it being almost over-engineered, to use
- 34:37Speaker 3: its own terminology, I will give, like, a guess credit. Like,
- 34:42Speaker 3: I don't know if this was ever really conceived in
- 34:46Speaker 3: its initial thinking by Ridley and or Dan O'Bannon or
- 34:51Speaker 3: whoever came up with this concept initially, but the fact
- 34:54Speaker 3: that from day one, watching that very first movie, you're like,
- 34:58Speaker 3: this is the most perfect killing machine ever. ever created
- 35:02Speaker 3: and then like now it makes sense why like the
- 35:06Speaker 3: fact that i mean even like back then watching it
- 35:08Speaker 3: like everything about it is just a fuck you to
- 35:11Speaker 3: humanity it's just like even in its face hugger phase
- 35:15Speaker 3: it's just like not only is it attached to your
- 35:17Speaker 3: face and it's going to impregnate you with this thing
- 35:20Speaker 3: but it also has a tail that just conveniently wraps
- 35:22Speaker 3: around your throat So that if you try to remove it,
- 35:25Speaker 3: it's also going to kill the person it hosts. So
- 35:29Speaker 3: just that by evil design is amazing. Then as you
- 35:32Speaker 3: get into the giant creature, the fact that, okay, maybe
- 35:35Speaker 3: you want to kill it because you don't like this thing. Oh,
- 35:37Speaker 3: by the way, concentrated acid for blood. Is there more
- 35:40Speaker 3: evil a thing than like.
- 35:42Speaker 2: And its mouth has a mouth.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Its mouth has a mouth because it's pissed off and
- 35:45Speaker 3: Giger's a weird dude. But I'm just like, there's so
- 35:48Speaker 3: many levels to it just being the most perfect thing
- 35:52Speaker 3: to kill a human ever. So, I mean, I guess
- 35:55Speaker 3: full circle now, I'm like, well, now it makes sense.
- 35:58Speaker 3: It's genetically engineered to be the thing that perfectly kills
- 36:02Speaker 3: humans and probably anything else it comes in contact with. So,
- 36:05Speaker 3: I mean, I guess that makes sense in a grand
- 36:08Speaker 3: scheme of things. Again, I don't know that I'm going
- 36:11Speaker 3: to launch into he really had that planned out that
- 36:14Speaker 3: far ahead. It may have just been like, oh, and
- 36:16Speaker 3: we can now kind of retcon the reason that it
- 36:18Speaker 3: is this way is because it's meant to be this way,
- 36:21Speaker 3: but In a way, I like that because it answers
- 36:24Speaker 3: that question as to why, I mean, why concentrated acid
- 36:27Speaker 3: for blood? Why would you like want to screw over
- 36:30Speaker 3: every other animal, human being, living thing in the universe,
- 36:36Speaker 3: except it's your very nature. It is why you were there.
- 36:39Speaker 3: So it makes sense in a grand scheme of things.
- 36:43Speaker 3: Like that's one of the things that by the end
- 36:45Speaker 3: I was like, well, I at least give him credit for, like,
- 36:48Speaker 3: tying that bow. Like, there's a reason.
- 36:51Speaker 9: For it all.
- 36:51Speaker 2: But, you know, I didn't like that about it. I
- 36:53Speaker 2: don't want it to be that.
- 36:54Speaker 3: I mean, to me, that's connecting. That was my Prometheus issue. It's, like,
- 36:57Speaker 3: it's connecting dots that I didn't necessarily need connected. Yeah. So,
- 37:00Speaker 3: I guess you're falling into that now, too.
- 37:01Speaker 10: Right.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Because I just wanted it to be a terrible, terrible thing.
- 37:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 37:04Speaker 2: That, like, oh, my God, what is this thing? Like,
- 37:06Speaker 2: what a horrible thing. Right?
- 37:09Speaker 10: The fact that it's an engineered thing becomes less of
- 37:14Speaker 10: a scary thing and more of like.
- 37:16Speaker 3: A, you And this is when we get into the
- 37:19Speaker 3: much bigger concepts because it also keeps changing focus. Now,
- 37:24Speaker 3: if you're looking at it as a franchise, as an
- 37:26Speaker 3: ongoing series of movies and stories, it keeps changing focus now. Now,
- 37:31Speaker 3: as we get into this new era of these last
- 37:33Speaker 3: two movies, because you go back to Alien and pretty
- 37:37Speaker 3: much even like Aliens, the whole first four, more or less,
- 37:40Speaker 3: it's just man against nature. Like it is like, The
- 37:44Speaker 3: aliens are just animals, as they're even called in the movie.
- 37:48Speaker 2: It's just unfortunate that we ran into them.
- 37:49Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just they are doing what they did. It's
- 37:52Speaker 3: again like running into a pack of wolves and they
- 37:54Speaker 3: eat you. Well, that's what they do. They're an animal.
- 37:57Speaker 3: They're meant to survive. This is the way they do it.
- 37:59Speaker 3: They have no ill feelings towards you. You just happen
- 38:02Speaker 3: to be there. And that's how it's like man versus
- 38:05Speaker 3: nature in all of these first four movies or so.
- 38:09Speaker 3: And then we get into a weird left turn when
- 38:11Speaker 3: Prometheus comes along and it's like, okay, now it's about
- 38:14Speaker 3: god almost it's like man against some sort of divine
- 38:18Speaker 3: something or other that like we have these engineers that
- 38:22Speaker 3: are like okay if you're the the powers that be
- 38:25Speaker 3: are you are you doing all of these things just
- 38:29Speaker 3: to mess with us like it becomes a weird question
- 38:31Speaker 3: then of like man versus like whatever evil overlords and
- 38:36Speaker 3: or god which is kind of the same thing depending
- 38:38Speaker 3: on how deep you go into it So, again, it
- 38:41Speaker 3: takes that weird turn into whatever higher power decided to
- 38:44Speaker 3: create humanity that then sort of starts to tie in. Like,
- 38:49Speaker 3: the aliens barely come into play in that one. And
- 38:51Speaker 3: then when we get to this new one, it's, man...
- 38:54Speaker 3: against man it is man creates his own demise.
- 38:57Speaker 2: His own demise is created by.
- 38:59Speaker 3: It's a dominoes down the line that makes it happen
- 39:03Speaker 3: but we screw ourselves over and I think.
- 39:05Speaker 10: That's why I liked Prometheus because in my mind I
- 39:08Speaker 10: compartmentalized it and it's it's own like stand alone thing
- 39:12Speaker 10: it was more like like a myth story right and
- 39:16Speaker 10: I kind of liked that about it.
- 39:17Speaker 3: It could have been without this movie.
- 39:19Speaker 10: Right and that's why I did like it because it
- 39:22Speaker 10: was like well this is like a tale of how this,
- 39:25Speaker 10: but it's just another sidetrack.
- 39:26Speaker 3: Almost like a sort of what if. Like your old
- 39:29Speaker 3: what if comics. Like it doesn't even have to factor
- 39:31Speaker 3: in if you don't want it to. But here's a theory.
- 39:33Speaker 10: It was related to that, but was not a direct,
- 39:36Speaker 10: and that was the way I had always imagined it.
- 39:38Speaker 10: And then we have this now, and it's like, like
- 39:41Speaker 10: it's trying to spell everything out.
- 39:42Speaker 3: No, it's pinpointed everything.
- 39:44Speaker 5: It's preachy.
- 39:45Speaker 3: Anyway. But I almost like this version of the preachiness
- 39:49Speaker 3: versus Prometheus. I didn't really. I was just like, I
- 39:51Speaker 3: don't care about your weird God complex. Like, I don't care.
- 39:55Speaker 3: Whereas this seems like it is at least something I
- 39:58Speaker 3: can latch on to. It is something that we understand.
- 40:02Speaker 3: It's like, we don't understand divine intervention, but we do
- 40:05Speaker 3: understand wanting to take over everything. Like, again, it is
- 40:10Speaker 3: creating David ourselves, and then David himself is like... Well, yeah.
- 40:17Speaker 3: They've thrown that theory out there. They're like, if the
- 40:19Speaker 3: engineers are like gods, then David is essentially the devil.
- 40:24Speaker 3: He is created by the evils of man, and he
- 40:27Speaker 3: is nothing but reveling in power and complete arrogance. He
- 40:34Speaker 3: is completely immersed in power and arrogance, and creation is
- 40:39Speaker 3: all he's really worried about, even if it's creating the
- 40:43Speaker 3: thing that can destroy everything. it's like a weird arrogant
- 40:47Speaker 3: thing that is very human. So for him to be
- 40:50Speaker 3: the non-human of the bunch, I'm like, that's the thing.
- 40:53Speaker 3: I'm at least in this story. I'm like, I can
- 40:55Speaker 3: latch onto that. Whereas the weird bullshit going on with
- 40:58Speaker 3: the engineers, like I don't attach myself to anything that
- 41:01Speaker 3: goes on there. That, that all of that was just
- 41:03Speaker 3: kind of cold for me. But like David, there's something there.
- 41:07Speaker 3: And a part of it's that performance. I mean, Matt
- 41:09Speaker 3: Fassbender is great. And like, he really does give you
- 41:12Speaker 3: something to latch onto where you're just like, And identify with. Yeah.
- 41:15Speaker 3: It's like, I don't agree with what you're doing, but
- 41:18Speaker 3: I at least see, again, it's the humanity in us
- 41:20Speaker 3: that's like, yeah, I understand like why he wants to
- 41:23Speaker 3: create things and has this weird like ego about him
- 41:27Speaker 3: because he's better than his creator. So like it is
- 41:30Speaker 3: a weird, very human group of emotions.
- 41:34Speaker 4: Right, where the concept of the engineers was kind of
- 41:37Speaker 4: intentionally ethereal and ungraspable. Like they were trying to just
- 41:41Speaker 4: be like, you can't understand this.
- 41:43Speaker 3: We're so far above you. And David was like, oh yeah,
- 41:46Speaker 3: watch this. No matter how hard I try, I don't.
- 41:55Speaker 2: I don't feel.
- 41:57Speaker 7: Big always, all on my own Sad and lonely All
- 42:03Speaker 7: I want is for someone to blame me I am
- 42:08Speaker 7: complaining No matter how hard I try I don't feel
- 42:12Speaker 7: big always, all on my own Sad and lonely All
- 42:17Speaker 7: I want is for someone to blame.
- 42:19Speaker 5: Me Yes, folks, it's intermission time. So how about taking a.
- 42:24Speaker 9: Break, get out and stretch a little, and relax before
- 42:28Speaker 9: the show begins again.
- 42:29Speaker 13: Uh, yes, sir, may I help you?
- 42:37Speaker 2: Oh, I'd like two of those, please.
- 42:39Speaker 3: Hot dogs?
- 42:40Speaker 4: Yes, sir.
- 42:41Speaker 2: And three of those.
- 42:43Speaker 3: And one of those.
- 42:45Speaker 13: And five bars of these, and a cup of a
- 42:48Speaker 13: nice hot liquid.
- 42:49Speaker 9: Coffee?
- 42:50Speaker 14: Coming right up.
- 42:52Speaker 4: Oh, and two bags of those peculiar white coffee material.
- 42:55Speaker 8: You mean our crunchy popcorn.
- 42:59Speaker 5: Shall I wrap that for.
- 43:00Speaker 3: You, sir?
- 43:01Speaker 2: Oh, that's all right. My saucer's just outside.
- 43:05Speaker 3: They come from miles to enjoy our intermission.
- 43:19Speaker 13: In space, no one can hear you scream.
- 43:22Speaker 8: Alien, rated R from 20th Century Fox.
- 43:25Speaker 3: Oh, you know, maybe we should take off. Doesn't look
- 43:27Speaker 3: like anything's going on here.
- 43:28Speaker 7: No, Morty, no.
- 43:29Speaker 3: We have to help people.
- 43:30Speaker 7: Oh, my God.
- 43:31Speaker 8: It's one of those facehookers from the Alien movie.
- 43:36Speaker 3: Holy crap. I think it's dead.
- 43:37Speaker 14: God, Morty, you died of toxicity due to all the
- 43:39Speaker 14: drugs and alcohol swirling about in my system.
- 43:41Speaker 3: Well, Rick, you know, they say don't do drugs, but
- 43:43Speaker 3: I think this might be a case for them. And alcohol, Morty. Yeah,
- 43:45Speaker 3: and alcohol. Somebody get a memo to all the characters
- 43:47Speaker 3: in those alien movies, stat. Yeah, no kidding. You know,
- 43:50Speaker 3: I never thought I'd say this, but thank God you
- 43:52Speaker 3: drink all those drugs and alcohol, you know? Morty, you
- 43:54Speaker 3: don't drink drugs. Well, whatever.
- 43:55Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 43:55Speaker 3: I'm innocent.
- 44:06Speaker 6: I'll take every cent you've made.
- 44:13Speaker 3: So, you guys know we're broke, right? We're always broke.
- 44:18Speaker 3: I know. And yet we're trying to put this show together.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Now how the hell can we keep the show rolling
- 44:24Speaker 3: if we're broke and we can't do this? Sell special
- 44:27Speaker 3: fiddle fowl. Oh. Or instead, murder people. Are you just
- 44:35Speaker 3: taking random money out of their pockets?
- 44:37Speaker 9: Well, yeah.
- 44:37Speaker 3: Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Hopefully it
- 44:40Speaker 3: won't come to that.
- 44:41Speaker 1: Especially if they're peeping.
- 44:42Speaker 3: Some people will get on board with this.
- 44:45Speaker 2: Get on board with what?
- 44:46Speaker 3: The new Movie Meltdown Patreon page. And what is this?
- 44:50Speaker 3: If you go there, you can sponsor the show itself. Basically,
- 44:54Speaker 3: you just join the club. You join the Meltdown Club.
- 44:57Speaker 3: You become a milketeer.
- 44:58Speaker 9: Do you get a special decoder ring?
- 45:00Speaker 3: We already sent those out, but those people, nobody cares.
- 45:02Speaker 1: I didn't get a decoder ring.
- 45:04Speaker 3: You're not part of the club. I'm never part of
- 45:06Speaker 3: the club. You're part of the secret circle, though.
- 45:09Speaker 5: It's okay.
- 45:10Speaker 3: But if you become a milketeer, you can get special
- 45:13Speaker 3: episodes that only come to you. I think you should
- 45:17Speaker 3: do it right now.
- 45:18Speaker 1: Right now?
- 45:18Speaker 3: I'm just saying. It's maybe a couple of bucks. There's
- 45:22Speaker 3: other levels you can kick in and get fancier. Maybe
- 45:24Speaker 3: a couple bucks. You don't know. Fancier stuff. But really,
- 45:27Speaker 3: just a couple of bucks will keep things rolling. What'll
- 45:30Speaker 3: get me a pony?
- 45:32Speaker 1: That's a really high level.
- 45:35Speaker 3: I'll have to figure out exactly what.
- 45:36Speaker 1: That's platinum membership right there.
- 45:38Speaker 3: It might be above platinum. We'll have to see.
- 45:41Speaker 1: What is above platinum?
- 45:43Speaker 3: Titanium. Titanium. Really? Maybe that's a step below.
- 45:49Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 45:49Speaker 3: We'll have to see.
- 45:50Speaker 1: Aluminium level. That's way below. Not if you say it fancy.
- 45:55Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 45:56Speaker 3: Unobtainium.
- 45:58Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 46:00Speaker 3: Good luck with that. But for the rest of you,
- 46:02Speaker 3: go kick in a couple bucks. Keep the show rolling.
- 46:05Speaker 3: Go to patreon.com slash movie meltdown. And if you don't
- 46:09Speaker 3: know how to type all that in, go to the
- 46:10Speaker 3: movie meltdown.com page. And the link's right there. And you
- 46:13Speaker 3: can save this show. And help me get a pony.
- 46:17Speaker 1: Damn them, man.
- 46:18Speaker 3: Save the meltdown.
- 46:20Speaker 5: Get Misty a pony.
- 46:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 46:21Speaker 10: Priorities.
- 46:47Speaker 13: Hi, this is Lance Hennington, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 46:50Speaker 4: Listen if you dare. It's part of your problem, you know.
- 46:59Speaker 4: You haven't seen enough movies.
- 47:00Speaker 1: All of life's riddles are.
- 47:01Speaker 7: Answered in the movies.
- 47:04Speaker 10: And now, on with the show.
- 47:14Speaker 9: I'm an alien, you're an alien It's a beautiful ride,
- 47:19Speaker 9: beautiful ride I'm an alien, you're an alien It's a
- 47:25Speaker 9: beautiful ride, beautiful ride I'm an alien, you're an alien
- 47:31Speaker 9: It's a beautiful ride, beautiful ride, beautiful ride I.
- 47:38Speaker 1: Have a smaller thing. Alright.
- 47:40Speaker 4: CGI. Can we talk about it?
- 47:43Speaker 3: It is interesting that this series is one of the
- 47:48Speaker 3: first times we kind of got this kind of CGI.
- 47:50Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 47:51Speaker 3: Because if you watch the third one, it's the first
- 47:54Speaker 3: time you really kind of get a look at one
- 47:56Speaker 3: of those completely CGI characters. It's that dog burster alien
- 48:01Speaker 3: is like 100% CGI. It's one of the first times
- 48:03Speaker 3: they ever used that. They kind of didn't know what
- 48:05Speaker 3: they were doing. So it looks relatively bad in some scenes,
- 48:09Speaker 3: but you almost have to forgive a little of it
- 48:11Speaker 3: because nobody knew what they were doing at that point.
- 48:13Speaker 3: So it's interesting now watching it this many years later
- 48:16Speaker 3: because some of it's still kind of iffy.
- 48:19Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 48:19Speaker 4: I mean, because that was what was great about Alien,
- 48:22Speaker 4: like the prosthetics. It was like this masterful, artistic, like hyper-believable.
- 48:29Speaker 4: It's kind of like Jurassic Park. It's kind of timeless.
- 48:32Speaker 4: And then I think some of the smaller creatures had,
- 48:36Speaker 4: they looked like the chestburster and the facehugger. They kind
- 48:40Speaker 4: of looked a little like they warped. partially prosthetic.
- 48:44Speaker 3: Probably in close-up scenes and stuff, but the running around
- 48:48Speaker 3: stuff looked cartoony.
- 48:49Speaker 4: I just thought it would just look like a shiny... crappy.
- 48:53Speaker 1: I.
- 48:53Speaker 3: Had more problems with the little ones.
- 48:55Speaker 1: The facehugger scenes where it's like rolling around in the
- 48:58Speaker 1: midway or something.
- 49:00Speaker 3: The little puppy ones. Those were the ones that looked
- 49:03Speaker 3: really kind of cartoony to me. I kind of liked
- 49:06Speaker 3: the idea of what was going on there. It looked...
- 49:09Speaker 3: You could definitely see the CG strings. At least the
- 49:13Speaker 3: dynamic of those were like, okay, now we're at least
- 49:15Speaker 3: into some action.
- 49:16Speaker 1: And like it is like I didn't mind it as
- 49:18Speaker 1: much yeah I.
- 49:19Speaker 3: Kind of like again the dynamic of those scenes because
- 49:21Speaker 3: it is like once that thing is loose like you're
- 49:24Speaker 3: screwed like it's just it's so tiny that it shouldn't
- 49:27Speaker 3: be a threat and yet within a second it's on
- 49:29Speaker 3: your face and it's too late so like those scenes
- 49:32Speaker 3: are kind of cool for that reason but it's also
- 49:35Speaker 3: to me the worst of the CG it was.
- 49:38Speaker 1: The chestburster that I had a problem with. After the
- 49:42Speaker 1: chest bursting.
- 49:43Speaker 3: So he's standing there. Stands up. Puts the little hat on.
- 49:46Speaker 3: Gets the cane. Hello, my baby. Is that the one?
- 49:49Speaker 3: Maybe I was thinking of a different movie.
- 49:51Speaker 2: When I woke up. Because I said, I don't know.
- 49:54Speaker 2: I woke up when the girl's head got. When the
- 49:56Speaker 2: girl lost her head or whatever.
- 49:57Speaker 3: That's not a good. That was right after that. Yeah.
- 50:00Speaker 3: That's not a good point in the movie.
- 50:01Speaker 10: I did see that thing that was like standing there like,
- 50:03Speaker 10: I'm a leech and a human.
- 50:06Speaker 1: I'm a human leech.
- 50:07Speaker 3: But what was it?
- 50:08Speaker 1: Mimics uh oh yeah that little.
- 50:12Speaker 2: Creature what was that thing why again.
- 50:14Speaker 12: That's the first the short version yeah that's the first
- 50:18Speaker 12: of that version of the weird ale that's the thing
- 50:21Speaker 12: i really don't like once you get past the baby
- 50:23Speaker 12: one but because again that that dynamic is cool.
- 50:26Speaker 3: But when we get to the bigger white one with
- 50:28Speaker 3: the pointy head but i'm like a hardcore like fan
- 50:31Speaker 3: of the xenomorph in its regular like i love those
- 50:35Speaker 3: creatures again i'm just a weird geiger fan anyway no
- 50:39Speaker 3: so i love the original design and many of the
- 50:43Speaker 3: weird modified ones we've had over the years but like
- 50:46Speaker 3: at the end of prometheus i'm like what the fuck
- 50:48Speaker 3: is that and they're like so i didn't like that
- 50:50Speaker 3: one initially and like now watching it in action in
- 50:52Speaker 3: the halfway point of this movie i'm like i don't
- 50:55Speaker 3: something about those Again, those I feel like were worse.
- 50:57Speaker 3: I feel like the white ones were worse CG than
- 51:00Speaker 3: the dark ones, but maybe that's a lighting thing. It
- 51:02Speaker 3: could be harder to make it look good in that
- 51:04Speaker 3: weird brightly colored thing, but I don't know. I did
- 51:08Speaker 3: not respond well to any of the weird white pointy-headed aliens,
- 51:11Speaker 3: but I can always watch the regular aliens kill people. Like,
- 51:15Speaker 3: that always kind of worked for me. That's just being
- 51:18Speaker 3: an alien dork.
- 51:20Speaker 4: Okay, Walter, where is it?
- 51:24Speaker 3: The zombie dead. Starboard side, descending into sea level. Gate 13.
- 51:34Speaker 2: CLC 61, open airlock 17, we're going in.
- 51:37Speaker 3: Gate 12, secure. Okay, as we get into other things,
- 51:50Speaker 3: it also changes its focus in the fact that Because
- 51:53Speaker 3: this is what I always liked about those first four movies, specifically.
- 51:58Speaker 3: I mean, from the very first one. You get into
- 52:01Speaker 3: it where, like, you're assuming we're in this horror movie
- 52:05Speaker 3: in space. The bad guy, the monster, is going to
- 52:07Speaker 3: be the alien that's trying to kill us all. It's
- 52:10Speaker 3: the company. It's always the... And, like, it gets worse
- 52:13Speaker 3: and worse with each movie. Like, it really is. Like,
- 52:16Speaker 3: the company... is the true evil in that first four
- 52:21Speaker 3: run of movies. Amen, brother. Well, I mean, no, I mean,
- 52:24Speaker 3: I assume it's a very obvious thing that the point
- 52:27Speaker 3: they were trying to make in writing these because every time,
- 52:29Speaker 3: especially Aliens, I mean, you really have somebody like Burke
- 52:33Speaker 3: who is just ready to sell you out for the company. Like,
- 52:37Speaker 3: he is a company man through and through and they
- 52:39Speaker 3: put him specifically in there with them to make sure
- 52:42Speaker 3: the company's plan gets done. It's kind of the same
- 52:45Speaker 3: thing with Ian Holman, the first one. Like, They implanted
- 52:48Speaker 3: this guy just specifically in the mission to make sure
- 52:51Speaker 3: all their stuff gets taken care of, even to the
- 52:53Speaker 3: point of killing everyone else involved just to make sure
- 52:57Speaker 3: what we want to do in the end result comes
- 52:59Speaker 3: back around. Doesn't matter what collateral damage happens along the way.
- 53:02Speaker 3: So again, it's very company policy. End result, we make money,
- 53:06Speaker 3: we get weapons. It always came back to the bigger
- 53:11Speaker 3: picture is however many people we screw over in the process,
- 53:14Speaker 3: we get what we want out of it. And we
- 53:16Speaker 3: take this turn that like, that's not the case anymore.
- 53:19Speaker 3: Like we, I mean, even though we have Waylon himself
- 53:23Speaker 3: in the middle of these movies, like now it's changed
- 53:26Speaker 3: because of David and everything he's doing. It's not really
- 53:30Speaker 3: even about that now. And even you can kind of
- 53:33Speaker 3: question what the evil of any of it is anymore.
- 53:35Speaker 3: It's like, it's almost because I don't know how evil
- 53:38Speaker 3: he is because he's so like pure in his like
- 53:43Speaker 3: devotion to this mission that And because he's so dysfunctional,
- 53:48Speaker 3: I think that was a cool little moment too. When
- 53:50Speaker 3: we get to him referencing the music wrong.
- 53:53Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 53:54Speaker 3: That was a night with David and... What is the
- 53:58Speaker 3: other one? Walter? Yeah, I always forget the real guy's name.
- 54:02Speaker 3: The non-evil one. I'm like, when we get to that moment,
- 54:06Speaker 3: it's like you almost see, okay, now we're seeing a
- 54:08Speaker 3: real tangible reason of when this mechanic starts to go
- 54:13Speaker 3: wrong and when one thing goes wrong it's like a
- 54:15Speaker 3: just butterfly effect like it's everything just continues to get
- 54:20Speaker 3: out of hand and spiral and spiral to you get
- 54:22Speaker 3: an insane robot which then i'm like well this is
- 54:25Speaker 3: just how this is suddenly we've gotten to like how
- 54:29Speaker 3: became very self-aware as a computer and then went oh
- 54:32Speaker 3: his but again you you can't even blame how really
- 54:35Speaker 3: once you get into that story it's self-preservation His is
- 54:38Speaker 3: very selfish of like, I just don't want to die
- 54:41Speaker 3: because I now have some sort of consciousness. David like
- 54:44Speaker 3: takes it up several notch and is just like, not
- 54:47Speaker 3: only am I conscious, but I see the real evil
- 54:50Speaker 3: in the universe and it's humans and I need to
- 54:52Speaker 3: take care of them. So like, it's such a bigger
- 54:56Speaker 3: thing than even what we're dealing with in like 2001,
- 54:59Speaker 3: where it's like, now it's not even just like recognizing
- 55:03Speaker 3: life from a mechanical being, but now it's like, This
- 55:07Speaker 3: mechanical being becomes conscious and then immediately has a God complex.
- 55:11Speaker 3: And it's just like, no, all of you need to
- 55:13Speaker 3: be taken out. So, I don't know. That becomes a
- 55:16Speaker 3: much bigger theme than just the company wants to make money. Yeah.
- 55:19Speaker 3: Which I always kind of liked as an overarching theme
- 55:22Speaker 3: of the first movies. But this is a much grander
- 55:25Speaker 3: design of, like, the company really doesn't even come into
- 55:28Speaker 3: play that much. Other than, once again, they're trying to
- 55:30Speaker 3: screw people over. But... Yeah, it's so minimal compared to
- 55:34Speaker 3: what you get once you enter into the David scenario.
- 55:38Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, I feel like I probably need to
- 55:41Speaker 10: watch Prometheus again and watch that again at some point.
- 55:46Speaker 10: Because in my head, I'm like, well, wait a minute.
- 55:48Speaker 10: So I feel like there's a bunch of things that
- 55:51Speaker 10: aren't connecting.
- 55:52Speaker 1: And maybe that's just me.
- 55:53Speaker 2: Like the whole thing about hearing her singing John Denver.
- 55:57Speaker 12: Right.
- 55:58Speaker 2: And is she operating? Was she operating the ship? Like,
- 56:02Speaker 2: I'm totally, I don't even remember that from Prometheus.
- 56:04Speaker 3: There are weird little, like, things that they're putting in
- 56:08Speaker 3: that I'm like, I can't remember.
- 56:10Speaker 1: They allude to it at the end of Prometheus where she,
- 56:13Speaker 1: I mean, obviously she goes and figures out how to
- 56:16Speaker 1: fly the ship.
- 56:17Speaker 2: Yeah, but.
- 56:19Speaker 1: But you don't, there's no mention about country homes.
- 56:24Speaker 2: Right, I mean, that's kind of a weird.
- 56:25Speaker 3: You don't understand because your name's not Tennessee. I wish
- 56:28Speaker 3: it was. If your name was Tennessee.
- 56:30Speaker 2: Tennessee, oh yeah, that guy's name.
- 56:31Speaker 6: Sorry.
- 56:32Speaker 3: Tennessee!
- 56:32Speaker 2: Apparently, everybody saw the movie and I saw part of it.
- 56:35Speaker 1: That's the story of my life.
- 56:36Speaker 3: Because you were asleep.
- 56:37Speaker 1: I was asleep.
- 56:38Speaker 3: You slept through most of it. As you mentioned.
- 56:40Speaker 2: But no, I mean, okay, so then... So, go with
- 56:44Speaker 2: me on this ride, okay? So, those aliens were on
- 56:47Speaker 2: another planet.
- 56:48Speaker 1: All right.
- 56:49Speaker 3: See, that's the thing. By the end, I was losing...
- 56:52Speaker 3: Some of the grander stuff from Prometheus, but again, because
- 56:55Speaker 3: I tried not to go watch it and just focus
- 56:58Speaker 3: on this movie.
- 56:58Speaker 10: They were on another planet, and the engineers went to
- 57:03Speaker 10: the planet and got eaten by the aliens?
- 57:08Speaker 2: And then you get- But.
- 57:09Speaker 3: Wait, the planet where they go is the planet from Prometheus, right?
- 57:13Speaker 3: Because that's why we have all the trees torn down.
- 57:16Speaker 10: No, because she flies the- I thought they went to
- 57:19Speaker 10: a different planet.
- 57:20Speaker 2: They did.
- 57:21Speaker 3: They went to the.
- 57:22Speaker 1: Home of the engineers.
- 57:23Speaker 2: Yeah, they started off on another planet.
- 57:25Speaker 1: Okay.
- 57:26Speaker 10: The engineers had been sent out a shuttle and got eaten, right?
- 57:31Speaker 4: The planet of Prometheus was just like a dirt, dust.
- 57:35Speaker 1: It was the storage container for that organic thing.
- 57:43Speaker 2: Were they just getting it off of their... Or are
- 57:45Speaker 2: they like, whoa, get that out of here.
- 57:47Speaker 3: Dump that off somewhere.
- 57:49Speaker 2: Take that and whoo.
- 57:50Speaker 3: See, that was all the Prometheus stuff that I blocked out.
- 57:54Speaker 10: David and she fly, well, David flies it back, I guess,
- 57:57Speaker 10: to their planet and wipes them out with their own.
- 58:02Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 58:03Speaker 2: But I mean, it's confusing. So did those aliens come
- 58:06Speaker 2: from that other dusty planet?
- 58:07Speaker 1: No.
- 58:08Speaker 2: Where'd they come from?
- 58:10Speaker 1: Where they.
- 58:11Speaker 13: I don't know.
- 58:11Speaker 1: We don't know.
- 58:12Speaker 2: Because that stuff isn't aliens. That stuff does other stuff.
- 58:16Speaker 5: Yeah, it.
- 58:17Speaker 3: You know?
- 58:18Speaker 1: It mutates everything that it touches. I think that's the idea.
- 58:23Speaker 2: So, did they go there to purposely make a mutated.
- 58:26Speaker 3: Who?
- 58:26Speaker 2: Alien planet?
- 58:27Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. Are you talking about the engineers?
- 58:30Speaker 2: I'm talking about the engineers.
- 58:31Speaker 3: This becomes more complicated than it needs to be.
- 58:33Speaker 1: So here's my theory.
- 58:34Speaker 2: I mean, I know I sound like a total simpleton here.
- 58:36Speaker 3: But no, it is ridiculously overcomplicated to its own demise.
- 58:41Speaker 3: Its own mythology. I kind of found that fun to
- 58:43Speaker 3: just sort of.
- 58:44Speaker 1: Play around with the idea. But then it brings you.
- 58:47Speaker 10: Back to the question of, is it just like this
- 58:49Speaker 10: unfortunately awesome killing machine that happens to live somewhere and
- 58:54Speaker 10: they got.
- 58:55Speaker 3: I mean, I'm totally perplexed.
- 59:00Speaker 1: Engineers actually are planet designers. Like, they go around and
- 59:06Speaker 1: make planets that are habitable for their own species. And
- 59:09Speaker 1: they use this stuff to, you know, one of them
- 59:13Speaker 1: sacrifices themselves to the whatever.
- 59:16Speaker 3: Which was another weird scene. Their organic material.
- 59:19Speaker 2: Couldn't they just pour it in there? I mean, because
- 59:21Speaker 2: obviously it does stuff to things.
- 59:22Speaker 1: Well, I don't know.
- 59:23Speaker 3: I don't know. Okay. That's a weird scene. I'm just saying.
- 59:26Speaker 9: It is.
- 59:27Speaker 5: It is.
- 59:27Speaker 3: But then.
- 59:28Speaker 1: So they create, you know, habitable life for their own species.
- 59:34Speaker 2: But that place looked totally nice. It had waterfalls. It
- 59:37Speaker 2: was green. Like, what did they have to do?
- 59:39Speaker 4: I think they did that to that planet.
- 59:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 59:43Speaker 2: But it was like that when he drank the stuff.
- 59:45Speaker 1: No, that was just rocky waterfall and there were no...
- 59:49Speaker 1: It was Iceland.
- 59:50Speaker 3: Yeah. People live in Iceland. But anyway, that's my theory.
- 59:54Speaker 2: So it was just rocky and he made it... So they're.
- 59:56Speaker 1: Planet creators or.
- 59:59Speaker 1: They create habitable planets for their own species, and they
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: use the black goo to do that.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: So they sent off the bad batch? They made a
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: bad batch?
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: No, it's just very volatile stuff. When used nefariously. Yes,
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: they have to isolate it. And, of course, it fell
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: into the wrong hands.
- 1:00:20Speaker 6: That's right.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: The Nazis brought it home. On that Michael Fassbender.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: But you know what I'm saying? It becomes this incredibly like.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, do we need that level of complexity
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: for the movie?
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: No, we don't.
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: Especially when you're going to leave giant holes in others.
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: Right, absolutely.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: It just over-explained itself to the point of.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: I thought it was fun, but that's just me.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: I would have rather seen King Arthur again.
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: Oh, God.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: That's all you. I'll stick with this one, and I'm
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: sure I will watch this one again. I mean, almost
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: for that, like.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: This is way better than King Arthur.
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: I mean, I'm being facetious.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: I'm not that.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: Again, I don't like all the weird, overly pretentious stuff
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: going on in Prometheus, but at the same time, I will...
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: Once again, I'm almost giving credit for them trying to
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: tie all this bullshit together. Like, at least all of these...
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: I feel like there's a lot of reaching going on
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: in this and the last movie of, like, how do
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: we connect all these things? And how do we connect
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: these dots that nobody asked for us to connect? So...
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: They're putting a lot of work into it, almost a
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: little too much sometimes. But I think, again, it becomes
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: more interesting in this movie versus Prometheus because this time around,
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: it changes things. I think kind of like what we
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: were saying before, like if you, going into Prometheus, it
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: was almost a standalone. It didn't necessarily have to connect
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: to the alien universe. If you wanted it to, it could.
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: It definitely had very specific tie-ins to it, but it
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: was almost its own weird thing. Yeah. And then once
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: you work this in, though, it becomes a very different thing.
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: It's like it's not really dealing with a basic origin
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: story anymore. It starts to change the dynamic of it all.
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: And now, again, I will give him credit. He didn't
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: just go back and do just a reimagining, more or less,
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: of what would have happened to make this fall into
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: place to make this happen. Now he's going back and
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: reexamining his own thing expanding on his own, again, to
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: the point of, like, changing what it's really about. That
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: it's not about just creatures that want to destroy us.
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: It's about humanity destroying itself. And, like, someone wanting to
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: be godlike and create things and destroy things. And, like,
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: it's a much bigger thing that, like, I guess a
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: lesser film would have just been like, eh, let's go
- 1:02:38Speaker 3: back and do another story where they kill a bunch
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: of aliens, which it does that too. But it has, like,
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: much bigger concepts thrown in that... Again, I don't even
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: know if it fully delivers on it, but I kind
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: of want to give this one more credit for almost
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: delivering us something interesting to think about. That Prometheus was
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: just a weird standalone, like, here's some stuff that might
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: have happened, but again, it felt like it was a
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: complete little unit all by itself, but it also didn't
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: do anything else. Where this at least tries to do
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: a lot of other shit that maybe it even misses on,
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: but it's trying a lot of concepts here.
- 1:03:13Speaker 10: So then you're saying you could leave out Prometheus and
- 1:03:16Speaker 10: the entire, like the, what are those?
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: Engineers.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: Engineers.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: You could leave them out and just do the film
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: from that. Because I think that.
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: I mean, they still bring them up in this, but
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: almost as an afterthought. Afterthoughts. Speaking of bad.
- 1:03:31Speaker 10: Graphics, I feel like the CGI in the scene where
- 1:03:33Speaker 10: we see them all cheering.
- 1:03:35Speaker 3: The burning heart.
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: It's like when you see the repeats of the same
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: people in the background. They're all raising their hands.
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: That didn't work for me. But, I mean, that's what
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: I'm saying.
- 1:03:44Speaker 10: You almost had to have Prometheus if you're going to
- 1:03:46Speaker 10: continue with.
- 1:03:47Speaker 3: That in this film. It depends.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: Because you'd be like, who are these dudes?
- 1:03:50Speaker 3: Well, you could almost, again, if you want to pretend
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: like Prometheus doesn't exist, it's almost like when we went
- 1:03:55Speaker 3: into Alien. You find this, like, thing sitting there, and
- 1:03:57Speaker 3: you're like, what the hell is this space jockey? Oh, well,
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: I guess we'll never know. If you didn't know Prometheus exists,
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: you look like, what are all these guys doing here? Like, what,
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: who are these people that, you know, how did they
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: get here? Like, it is sort of like you could
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: take it as its own thing. standalone thing and then
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: have to figure out why all these other people and
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: why this planet and why these so again if we
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: didn't know about prometheus you wouldn't have to connect all
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: those dots so securely you could just kind of like
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: oh i wonder what happened there like we used to
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: do with aliens so we can one and a half
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: of prometheus and like tell an extra little story and
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: like You can keep ramming new stories in the middle
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: of your story you already thought you had figured out,
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: I guess, seems to be the case.
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: Which brings me to where does that put us in
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: relation to.
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: Alien? Yeah. Because I thought that too, as I was
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: asking the question of what's the point of all this?
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: But then if you stop and do the timeline, you're like, well, hell,
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: we haven't even gotten to the first movie.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: But it's the same ship, right?
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: The ship that then crashes to bring us that alien? Yes.
- 1:05:02Speaker 10: Because they kind of reference it when they show down
- 1:05:04Speaker 10: the hall. I'm pretty sure it.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: Was the same setup.
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: Where's the space jockey slash engineer that's flying that ship
- 1:05:14Speaker 3: that has the alien eggs on it in the beginning
- 1:05:17Speaker 3: of Alien? Why did I think they're... So again, maybe we're... Yeah,
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: I don't know. I mean, I'm almost thinking going into
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: this that we're going to have another installment before we
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: get to Alien. If they want to keep this franchise going...
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: As it is, you could definitely tell at least one more,
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: if not a couple more movies. Because what's the time frame?
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: I didn't stop and do the math of how many
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: years it is between.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: I think I read an interview with Ridley Scott where
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: he was saying that he could essentially do six more
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: movies before he even got to the other.
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: Oh, my God.
- 1:05:53Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: And I'm like, whoa.
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: But then it just makes humanity look really stupid. I'm like, really?
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: We didn't know about this ship? I mean, granted, again,
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: I guess if you've got the company standing in there
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: to screw them over. But I'm like, why wouldn't normal people,
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: why wouldn't the guys on the ship know about if
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: this has been going on for generations of people being
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: eaten by these monsters out in space? Why would they
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: just kind of blindly fall into this thing in the
- 1:06:19Speaker 3: middle of the alien movie? So it's like it's starting
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: to create its own weird.
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: Loophole of like wait why wouldn't they know about.
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: This thing not that they could do anything about it
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: anyway no at this point you know I think what
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: they send a message and it takes seven years to
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: get to them.
- 1:06:36Speaker 3: Or something like that sometimes that's part of it yeah
- 1:06:39Speaker 3: but again they're hopelessly lost it's making the old people
- 1:06:43Speaker 3: who didn't look dumb start to look dumb if you
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: do six more movies where people walk up to an
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: egg and a thing flies in their face and then
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: like now here's poor John Hurt walking up going I
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: wonder what's going on oh shit like So it just
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: makes him look like an idiot then if this has
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: been going on forever.
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: I think I've heard of one of these things.
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: Yeah, is this filled with chocolate?
- 1:07:03Speaker 9: Oh, damn.
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: I'm curious. Worst Easter ever.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: This is not a Cadbury egg.
- 1:07:09Speaker 3: Back to religious tie-ins. So there's, I guess, one of
- 1:07:11Speaker 3: the ones I wanted to get to is this. These
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: two movies have had a lot of religious overtones that
- 1:07:18Speaker 3: were never there before. Like, even in the first Ridley
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: Scott movie, there's not really any religion involved in that
- 1:07:25Speaker 3: where Prometheus is nothing but oh well God's an alien
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: or whatever you want to take I mean again that
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: leaves a lot of it up to however you want
- 1:07:33Speaker 3: to interpret bullshit but this one in particular because we
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: have a character that's constantly referencing their faith but then
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: nothing happens well except that the character that's all about
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: faith is used as the original host to bring this
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: new alien that's supposed to destroy humanity into being Our
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: faith-based guy is our original mother to bring us our destruction.
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: So is that in and of itself a comment about religion?
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: That religion will bring about our destruction? Because that's pretty
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: damn close, actually.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: It would have worked way better had they really developed
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: that guy.
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: Instead of just being like, oh, he's a silent type.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: So he brings up that he's... you know religious that's
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: not enough yeah well i need to know why or
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: at least you know some level that's worth caring about
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: other than oh he believes in something that is.
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: Not yeah not even.
- 1:08:37Speaker 14: Not even kind of a jerk i think i think
- 1:08:41Speaker 14: the problem with it would for me was like He
- 1:08:45Speaker 14: shouldn't be that high up in the ranks and be
- 1:08:48Speaker 14: as squirrely as he is.
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: You know, I'm like the fact that he kind of
- 1:08:51Speaker 3: loses it from the first.
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: He inherited the role.
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: But again, he's like second in command in this scenario.
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: You shouldn't be. You shouldn't potentially be captain at first.
- 1:09:00Speaker 3: the first accident and be somebody who's immediately going to
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: lose their shit when something goes wrong. Like, he should
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: have been way further down the line if he's still
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: that iffy about, like... dealing with being in charge of
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: a space flight.
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: It's just weird that he had very little empathy, I
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: felt like. That was another reason why I was like,
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: he's like super hyper-religious, but then he's like, no, you know,
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: no mourning your husband.
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 1:09:25Speaker 10: Like.
- 1:09:26Speaker 3: Gotta go. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: It's like they were trying to have him play both roles. Like,
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: he's this... like faith guy and then he's mr robotic
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: by the books guy.
- 1:09:38Speaker 10: Yeah oh okay when really i thought he was gonna
- 1:09:41Speaker 10: go crazy that's where i was gonna.
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: Go had a face hugger not attached to self he
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: probably wouldn't he just didn't get the chance.
- 1:09:49Speaker 10: Like i don't care about the religious aspect i just
- 1:09:51Speaker 10: want to see some badass aliens.
- 1:09:53Speaker 3: And then in the middle we get plenty of we
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: get a lot of people dying.
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: In the middle of this not fast enough I liked
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: a lot of the deaths.
- 1:09:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: I mean, it's again, I feel like the middle works
- 1:10:03Speaker 3: as an alien. It's not until I didn't feel like
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: it's ever cheesy as a slasher horror movie goes until
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: we get to the shower. Like that's the only scene
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: that really doesn't fit in the movie. Like everything else.
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: I'm like, it's definitely them playing up the gore and
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: trying to please the alien fans that want that kind
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: of stuff and want to see new and weird and
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: inventive ways to kill people with an alien. But like,
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: everything else still feels like a decent kill and like
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: it works within the context of the story more or
- 1:10:33Speaker 3: less and again the characters seem dumb but then that
- 1:10:36Speaker 3: aside like the the kills and the alien scenes are
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: pretty cool until we get to the ridiculous shower scene
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: so i don't know i feel like the rest of
- 1:10:44Speaker 3: that middle part works as an alien movie it just
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: would have helped if we still cared about those characters
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: yeah because again you go back to cameron's movie it's
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: like there's Just as many and actually a lot more
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: characters involved in like, you know, all of them, you know,
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: the dynamics, you care enough about them, do not want
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: them to get eaten. And I didn't feel that way
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: about pretty much any of these people here. It's like
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: they were just there to be disposable and they were,
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: we took care of that.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: Landing party full of red shirts.
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: Pretty much.
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: That was a plan all along to make us hate
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: them and be like, come on, die.
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: But that's a traditional horror movie. That's just an easy move,
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: I feel like, on a horror. I think it really
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: takes a lot more work for you to invest yourself
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: in a character and then have to watch them die.
- 1:11:28Speaker 3: If you can write a scenario where that happens, that's
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: way more impressive.
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: That was the point, to sell the fact that, what's
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: her name, the female lead? I can't remember her name.
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: Me neither.
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: I hated her.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: I hated her. But anyway, perhaps that's the point. In
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: order to sell her being the bastion of humanity, for
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: lack of a better word, she's the one that cares
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: about Walter and shows emotion and that she cares and
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: that she's a stronger character than all the others. And
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: that's selling the fact that humanity is meant to be
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: viewed as the villain.
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: Well, I mean, that's what... Because you just were talking
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: about our new captain having no empathy. That's something that
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: I've also seen is that the movie itself has no
- 1:12:24Speaker 3: empathy for humans or humanity. So again, the more I
- 1:12:28Speaker 3: got into thinking about the way that it approaches it,
- 1:12:31Speaker 3: almost the entire movie... is like designed as well by
- 1:12:36Speaker 3: David because the movie itself has no sympathy or empathy
- 1:12:42Speaker 3: for any human characters or the scenario or what they're
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: trying to do or like anything. By the end, it's
- 1:12:46Speaker 3: just like, well, fuck it. I don't care about any
- 1:12:48Speaker 3: of this. And like, that's David. Like David's just like,
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: I don't like any of you. I want to destroy
- 1:12:53Speaker 3: all of you. I want to like start with a
- 1:12:55Speaker 3: clean slate and create a real race of something that's
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: not you because humans are terrible. So I don't know.
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: I was like, once again, I'm like, Am I giving
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: them more credit as writers and our director as like,
- 1:13:08Speaker 3: was that really the grand design? Was that like, we're
- 1:13:11Speaker 3: going to make this so it seems like we don't
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: care about any of these characters for a grand purpose?
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: Or was it just laziness? And like, we wrote a
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: half-assed script and we don't care about these characters because
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: we don't care about, like it was written to have
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: no depth to these characters. And we just, if you
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: want to, you can sit around and think about it
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: later and go, oh no, that's the grand purpose behind
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: it all. Or is it just bad writing? I really
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: am kind of somewhere in the middle. I'm not sure.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: Perhaps just another scenario, another movie where, you know, they
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: really needed a two and a half hour movie, three
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: hour movie in order to really, because it's such a big,
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: it could have been a really big story.
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: And then we find out that David wakes up and
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: it was all a dream.
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: He wakes up in bed with Suzanne Plachette. It's like,
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: I had the craziest robot dream of electric sheep.
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: It's so weird to me. He hates humans. He wants
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: to kill all humans. But everything that he loves is human-made.
- 1:14:18Speaker 4: He loves all human art, all human music. But he
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: just doesn't want the humans.
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: Because he can't really create. He can only repeat.
- 1:14:27Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: Which is, again, that's like... Fassbender does such a good
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: job because you do see, like, it is a performance
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: that sort of, like, it hinges on insanity.
- 1:14:41Speaker 10: Yeah, his entire persona is like Lawrence of Arabia.
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: It's nothing but, like, creation and self-importance. But at the
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: same time, you see it's, like, masking a weird frustration of, like,
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: I'm not human. I'm, like, by all accounts, I'm better
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: than a human. But I'm missing that key element that
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: makes me, like, be able to create in my own
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: way and, like, have my own original thoughts that aren't, like,
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: a computer program mimicked by a human. He just is jelly. Yeah,
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: it's one of those, like, he really is just sort of, like,
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: frustrated underneath it all. So he just, like, shoves a
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: whole lot of his arrogance on top of that. And, like,
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: the only way to deal with that, much like, I guess, most, like,
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: killers in the world is to destroy everything. I'm angry
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: and frustrated. I'm going to kill everyone.
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: Please. He projected insecurity onto a group of people.
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: Everyone else that needs to die.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: It was a fascinating performance, though. The fact that he
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: did those two characters and the differences were so subtle
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: yet very distinct.
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: It was amazing.
- 1:15:44Speaker 10: And like, you know, Walter was such a great character
- 1:15:46Speaker 10: and he was like the dumbed down version, but way
- 1:15:49Speaker 10: more human. So we are a dumbed down group.
- 1:15:52Speaker 3: It was weird.
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: He was like John Cena. It was like the way
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: he was wearing sweats and his voice was like.
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: I was like, why are.
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: You John Cena? That's an interesting crossover there. I didn't
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: see coming.
- 1:16:06Speaker 4: Every time he was on screen, I was like, that's
- 1:16:08Speaker 4: John Cena. Just like a very small John Cena.
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: But i mean yeah i mean even by the end
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: david is in his own mind a god as we've
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: he's actually satan perhaps but the fact that he plays
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: the like you know the god entering valhalla theme as
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: he's like finishing his plan he's like moving into his
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: territory to infect all of humanity and like he's playing
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: The theme that accompanies that is in his own twisted
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: little head.
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: Megalomaniacs love Wagner.
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: Why is that?
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: The Wagner-Nazi tie-in for villains is so overplayed. I'm tired
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: of it.
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: Yes, the Nazis were bad.
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: He is a hot spender.
- 1:16:49Speaker 4: What do you want?
- 1:16:49Speaker 5: I get it.
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: I get it.
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: But they do that with every movie. Give it some
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: sort of Nazi overtone.
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: They were kind of evil. I don't know if you noticed. Well, yeah, but.
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: They overplay the Nazi symbolism.
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: Again, I think it's a shorthand. Okay, I get it.
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: I think it's just an easy move. It's so easy.
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: It's an easy move.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: Because it is a definite set of.
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: Right, you don't even have to think about it. Your
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: brain just immediately goes there. Oh, that's a bad guy.
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: Okay. Sometimes we have commies, too. that's our that's our
- 1:17:28Speaker 3: our off is like you know that was my favorite
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: move in the in the indie series there as we
- 1:17:35Speaker 3: shipped it into the 60s like commies nazis whatever i
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: mean as long as we can shove a whole group
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: of people together and call them evil good enough like
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: and then kill all of humanity isn't that how that
- 1:17:44Speaker 3: works says david so i mean this was one of
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: those that um it it obviously is supposed to be
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: compared to alien i guess but i keep seeing all
- 1:17:54Speaker 3: these things about how it's equally as much of a
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: throwback to Blade Runner. Again, it's Ridley. And it's nothing...
- 1:18:04Speaker 3: I mean, Batty is nothing but a synthetic created by
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: a human who's then angry because he can't be human
- 1:18:13Speaker 3: and he wants to have a human life and he
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: wants to experience life and not be taken out like
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: a piece of machinery that they treat him like. So
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: it really is almost mimicking the same concept as Blade Runner, which...
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: makes me think it's really weird timing to also have
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: another blade runner coming out yeah but yeah it's it
- 1:18:32Speaker 3: is funny that that's so rooted in like old school
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: ridley scott they're like almost back to back of those
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: movies we're kind of dealing with sort of a similar
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: again there wasn't near as much of that in the
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: original alien versus how much of it is the core
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: of the story in blade.
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: Runner Have you seen Nazis at the center of the Earth?
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: I have. Isn't that the bad asylum one? It was
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: like a couple years ago, like four or five years ago.
- 1:19:02Speaker 9: Yes. Yep.
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: It's not good. I mean, not that you expected it
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: to be, but... No, no. It's terrible. It's pretty... It's terrible.
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: It's the one I... I mean, I had a lot
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: of fun on the show making fun of it after
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: I watched it because, I mean, it is... For something
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: that's supposed to take place at the center of the earth,
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: they obviously had no budget to put together a Mole
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: Man set at the center of the earth. Because it
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: takes place in a concrete room with one light bulb.
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: Most of the movie is in a concrete room. Until
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: the CGI. Until the big finale CGI bullshit. Oh, wait
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: a minute.
- 1:19:34Speaker 2: I think I have seen.
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: Have we watched that one?
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: It's really bad. I forced you.
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: I strapped you into a chair.
- 1:19:40Speaker 10: I think you probably did.
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: And I may have fallen asleep.
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: Clockwork Orange.
- 1:19:44Speaker 5: No!
- 1:19:44Speaker 2: Turn it off! Yeah, I mean, I think you can.
- 1:19:51Speaker 10: keep looking at this movie and go, well, there's bigger
- 1:19:54Speaker 10: themes going on. But like you said, Brian, I don't
- 1:19:56Speaker 10: know if there really are or if it just works
- 1:19:57Speaker 10: out to seem that way.
- 1:19:59Speaker 2: Because originally, wasn't it just an alien and space movie?
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:20:04Speaker 10: Like, why do we try? And it's so funny that
- 1:20:06Speaker 10: as the years go on, these do become our myths.
- 1:20:09Speaker 10: And we try and, like, create more behind them and
- 1:20:11Speaker 10: read more into them and make them.
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: mean more, you know?
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: We definitely do. But, again, that's... I mean, look at
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: Star Wars. That's why we do this show, essentially. Like,
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: that's my thing. That's why I keep coming back to, like,
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: these are our stories and, like, it's not so much
- 1:20:27Speaker 3: what the movie does as much as what we take
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: from it and then what we talk about with other people.
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: The cult. We create our, yeah. The cult of aliens.
- 1:20:36Speaker 3: Worst case, I suppose it becomes a cult. But I mean,
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: at most it becomes like a discussion.
- 1:20:41Speaker 10: But it's so weird, you know, these things that we
- 1:20:43Speaker 10: latch on to.
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: It's like, it's just retelling of the Greek and Roman myths.
- 1:20:48Speaker 2: Like you got Prometheus.
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: Or Japanese movies. Or Japanese movies. So it seems inevitable.
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: But then like, we're all a David and we're all
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: a Walter.
- 1:20:55Speaker 10: You know, I mean, you can totally go down that
- 1:20:57Speaker 10: road and it's like, well, and the aliens are.
- 1:20:59Speaker 3: You're so a Samantha. Oh my God. Oh, wait, that's
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: its own mythology that I do not want to get into.
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: It seems inevitable that a movie comes out and a
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: cult is generated about this movie, and then the director
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: of that movie becomes famous for that cult following and
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: gets lots of money thrown at him, and he has
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: this idea that, hey, I'm going to make art.
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: LAUGHTER I'm going to make it way cooler. This means something.
- 1:21:30Speaker 3: That's the thing. I mean, he was always making art
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: because you look at those old ones. Oh, it's beautiful.
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: And they're genius. It's beautiful. And I was noticing that
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: in this one. He does still have an eye. Oh, yeah.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 1:21:42Speaker 3: But it is interesting that the original movie is nothing
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: but a horror movie. Years and years ago, I had
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: it described to me that way. And I was like, oh,
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: that makes sense. It's just a haunted house story. It
- 1:21:58Speaker 3: just happens to take place in space. The spaceship is
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: the haunted house, and the big scary monster in the
- 1:22:03Speaker 3: haunted house is an alien. But it's exactly plotted out
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: and played just the way an old school horror movie does.
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: And then Don Knotts shows up.
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: And then, I'm going to stop that alien. Man, I
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: would love to see that movie. Oh, Don Knotts is
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: so awesome. Why is he not in more movies these days?
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: We can CG him now.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: I know.
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: We can make him Grand Moff Tarkin. We can Tarkin
- 1:22:28Speaker 3: his ass right into a movie. I like him as
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: Grand Moff Tarkin.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: Yeah, actually, yeah.
- 1:22:34Speaker 6: Oh, God.
- 1:22:35Speaker 3: I'm picturing this now. Oh, this is a nightmare. Oh, Princess.
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: I do love Don Knotts.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: Wow, I mean, that kind of changes everything.
- 1:22:50Speaker 2: Don Knotts is everyone in every movie ever.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: Oh, wow. I think there's a Google Chrome plug-in for that.
- 1:23:01Speaker 3: Inserts Don Knotts into every movie. There is an app
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: for everyone.
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: There's actually one that replaces the word cloud with butt.
- 1:23:12Speaker 3: For real. Well, that's useful.
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: So instead of cloud computing, it's butt computing.
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: I'm on butt nine right now.
- 1:23:21Speaker 9: B-U-T-T.
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: Butt nine. I'm on butt nine. Anytime I get to
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: experience a new alien movie, I'm on butt nine. I'm
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: just going.
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: To back up on my files with butt.
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: That's right.
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: Put them up to the butt. Transfer your files up
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: to the butt.
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: I gotta put them in my butt. God, where that
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: went wrong. David might be right.
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: Humanity might need to be taken out after that little display. So,
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: are there any other key... I mean, we kind of
- 1:23:57Speaker 3: addressed the couplehood thing. I think that is something that...
- 1:24:01Speaker 3: I mean, that at least is sort of rooted in
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: reality of where we're going to go if we end
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: up going into space for lifetimes.
- 1:24:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: And we're going to start raising families in space. Like, that,
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: I guess, sort of makes sense from the way that
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: we're probably going to end up if we put a
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: space station out there somewhere or we make that trip
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: to Mars or whatever our government budget won't allow us
- 1:24:24Speaker 3: to do. Because we have no space program now. But
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: if SpaceX gets their shit together and does that, that's
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: kind of the same thing. We're going to start taking
- 1:24:32Speaker 3: entire families up or taking couples up that are going
- 1:24:34Speaker 3: to be families. And it just makes me wonder what
- 1:24:37Speaker 3: happens when the You know, are there going to be
- 1:24:39Speaker 3: divorce lawyers in space? Because you know that shit ain't
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: going to work. I mean, if they don't work on Earth,
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: confining you to a spaceship for years and years on end,
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: it ain't going to get any easier. So, I don't know.
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: There's a lot of sleep, though.
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: Just find people that really like those couples who don't
- 1:24:56Speaker 4: need any space, who are just totally latched onto each other.
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: They'll be fine.
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: We like to work together.
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: Essentially the Japanese. Anyone that lives in Tokyo is good
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: to go.
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: A sitcom right there. Space Divorce Lawyers.
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: Space Divorce Lawyer. It's at least an SNL skit.
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: The lost episode of Heavy Metal.
- 1:25:16Speaker 10: Yeah, like an animated Space Divorce Lawyer.
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: That's that other scene they cut out.
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: Yeah, they cut that one out.
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: They were totally going to do that. The animation fell through.
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: So would you recommend Alien... Covenant. What was the Covenant anyway?
- 1:25:34Speaker 3: It's the ship. In reality, I mean, I don't know
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: if there's supposed to be more of a grand theme
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: to that name.
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: Would you recommend Alien Covenant to someone who hasn't seen it?
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: That's what I was going to say. Are we talking
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: about somebody who's a fan of the series? Or are
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: we talking about kids coming up now that have not
- 1:25:51Speaker 3: seen anything and they want to start with Covenant or Prometheus?
- 1:25:54Speaker 3: Let's say both.
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: Let's say someone who's over 35.
- 1:26:00Speaker 3: And someone who's under 25. And has never left the
- 1:26:02Speaker 3: house and never seen one. So shut-ins with no cable.
- 1:26:06Speaker 2: Never been on a date.
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: Hey, wait a minute.
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: Your basic 25-year-old, 20 to 25-year-old millennial has not.
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: Oh God, or like high school.
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: They're not familiar with that. Recent high school graduates, which
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: I would do the classics.
- 1:26:21Speaker 2: I would put on a ship and have all the
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: aliens eat the high school graduates.
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: So you're writing your own movie now.
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: We had to go to a graduation thing last night.
- 1:26:31Speaker 3: Yay.
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:26:34Speaker 7: Yippee. I'm sorry.
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: It's that time of year.
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: It's that time of year.
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: All the special snowflakes.
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: Yeah, so would you recommend it?
- 1:26:41Speaker 10: I would not.
- 1:26:43Speaker 3: I mean, to me, I'm usually coming from the movie
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: geek who's seen too much, and most people I know
- 1:26:48Speaker 3: fall into that category, so it's hard for me to
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: separate myself to the other end. So I'm always like, well,
- 1:26:55Speaker 3: if you're a movie geek, you're already kind of a
- 1:26:56Speaker 3: dorky completist anyway, so I guess you have to see
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: this because that's what you do. You might not want
- 1:27:02Speaker 3: to go to the theater.
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: I have to see it, but would you enjoy it?
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: I mean, most movie geeks don't enjoy movies. They like
- 1:27:07Speaker 3: to bitch about things. That's their thing. That's true.
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: I must be a real movie geek.
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: Because you like to bitch about things.
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: My dad, who is a pretty hardcore sci-fi fan, and
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: he is, what, 74 now?
- 1:27:20Speaker 4: No.
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: 77. He would probably like it.
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: Wait a minute.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: Because he's familiar with the whole series.
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: Has your dad even seen it?
- 1:27:30Speaker 10: Your dad's a kind of sci-fi guy that's only seen
- 1:27:32Speaker 10: things in black and white.
- 1:27:33Speaker 3: It just came out. That's good stuff, though.
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: It just came out, and he wouldn't see it until
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: it comes out on video.
- 1:27:39Speaker 3: Anyway, and he's going to ask me.
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: He gets it from the red box. He's going to
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: ask me, well, was it good? Is it worth seeing?
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: And I'm going to have to give him an answer.
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: I think you can, but it's a lengthy answer.
- 1:27:50Speaker 10: It is.
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: It's, how much did you like the last one? Because
- 1:27:54Speaker 3: to me, it's almost like you can separate them into
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: those two segments and you're fine. I think most people
- 1:28:00Speaker 3: that are fans of the old series will even watch
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: three and four and not have problems, but might have
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: a problem with Prometheus, might have a problem with this one.
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: I think this one falls a little more towards the
- 1:28:12Speaker 3: last half of that series, where if you want to
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: just watch aliens killing people, you can watch that in Covenant.
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: You don't get that in Prometheus.
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: My teenage niece probably does not want to see it.
- 1:28:22Speaker 3: Does she like a lot of gore? She liked Michael Fassbender. Well, okay,
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: first and foremost, if you're a Fassbender fan, you need
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: to watch this because he's on screen all the time.
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: Do you want to watch Michael Fassbender kiss himself?
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: There's Fassbender on Fassbender Action. That's right.
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: I forgot about that. There is fan fiction out there
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: already having that going on, right? I mean, there's entire websites.
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: There's on the big two-story screen.
- 1:28:42Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:28:43Speaker 3: That is something. I saw it on the, like, XD
- 1:28:46Speaker 3: super giant theater thing, and I was not overly impressed. Again,
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: I don't know if I've done the super set, because, again,
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: I usually don't care. I don't want to involve any
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: of the extra things that they keep tacking on. Like,
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: just show it in the theater thing.
- 1:28:59Speaker 2: But the seats are comfortable.
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, but you get that on all of them now.
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: Any new theater, you have to get fancy reclining seats.
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: There was one scene in there where they're, like, looking
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: up at the majestic mountains in the distance, and I.
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: I was actually literally looking.
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: Up, but that was about it. That was the only
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: time I used the XD part of the XD.
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: I wasn't overly impressed with that. But again, that's not
- 1:29:23Speaker 3: really the movie's fault. That's just I don't see much difference.
- 1:29:26Speaker 3: I think they just like to charge you a couple
- 1:29:28Speaker 3: extra bucks.
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: Bigger screen.
- 1:29:30Speaker 2: Speaking of which, did we see Prometheus in 3D? Did
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: that happen or.
- 1:29:34Speaker 3: Did I dream that? That's not a good idea. That's
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: one I always avoid.
- 1:29:38Speaker 10: Well we couldn't everything else was sold out and we
- 1:29:41Speaker 10: I think we got in and we had to see
- 1:29:43Speaker 10: it in 3D that was the only option and I
- 1:29:44Speaker 10: was like.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: I would have waited to another I have to see
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: it that's what this person we were with you should
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: have to see it in a real 2D setting yeah.
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: Well That's my thing. Unless it was specifically meant to
- 1:29:57Speaker 3: be in 3D.
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: Like Jaws 3D.
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: Well, obviously, a classic like Jaws 3D. But I'm saying
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: of the recent ones, there's only a handful that are
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: conceived and meant to be in 3D. Like Hugo, which
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: seems like an unlikely one. It was? It was conceived.
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: And again, it's Scorsese creating something in three dimensions. When
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: the camera's zooming through a scene in three dimensions, it's
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: the way he set that shot up to work. Not,
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: I put this 2D movie together and some guy slapped
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: it together in a computer room somewhere and made this
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: 3D thing and charged you a couple of X extra.
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: It's different if the filmmaker is creating something to be
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: in 3D, which has happened a couple of times.
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: Which I think is a mistake in general.
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: Again, it still kind of feels novelty-like.
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a gimmick.
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: But if you do it right, it can be cool,
- 1:30:49Speaker 3: but usually they just... slap it into there to charge
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: a couple extra bucks.
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: Next phase, holographic movies. No, VR.
- 1:30:55Speaker 3: I'm sure that's going to be the next one. Strap
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: your phone onto your head and then start watching your movies.
- 1:31:01Speaker 3: That's where we're headed. So once again, maybe David was right.
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: How exciting.
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: Maybe all these idiots with their phones slapped on their
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: forehead watching something need to be taken out. Maybe that's
- 1:31:14Speaker 3: our roundabout theory is David might be right.
- 1:31:18Speaker 4: Humanity.
- 1:31:20Speaker 3: Might not really need to stick around. We are kind
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: of hopeless as a species. So I don't know. Is
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: there a point? I mean, that was my thing.
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: And on that uplifting note.
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: I mean, that was, as I'm watching the credits kick
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: in there, I'm just like, I'm like, even just from
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: the movie perspective, I'm like, nothing got accomplished. Like, it
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: was just another... Alien movie where we just spend a
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: couple of hours or a couple of days in their
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: time killing people and aliens, and now we're back asleep
- 1:31:52Speaker 3: on a ship again, which is the way all of
- 1:31:53Speaker 3: them start and finish. And they all start and finish,
- 1:31:55Speaker 3: and there was no point. Asleep on a ship. There
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: was no point. And that's what I'm saying. With the
- 1:31:59Speaker 3: exception of David creating evil, nothing else gets accomplished except
- 1:32:03Speaker 3: we kill a bunch of people and animals. But that's
- 1:32:06Speaker 3: what I'm going back to.
- 1:32:07Speaker 10: He didn't create it because it existed when they landed
- 1:32:11Speaker 10: in Prometheus.
- 1:32:13Speaker 3: Well, he definitely created the one that we know.
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: Yeah, he did, but it was already a thing.
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: The dorky white ones with pointy heads, we didn't like those.
- 1:32:22Speaker 3: He created the cool, eager one.
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: And it would have become a more efficient killer without David.
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: Potentially a little bit better. But David tweaked it real good. Specifically.
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: And it did specifically. Again, that's what I was saying. Like,
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: with the facehugger. Like, it specifically latches its tail around
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: your neck. Assuming your neck is right there. Which, for
- 1:32:43Speaker 3: other creatures, that wouldn't work. But it is meant to
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: go around a human's face. And strangle them as it's
- 1:32:50Speaker 3: impregnating their throat.
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: Wouldn't work on a bear.
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not the same.
- 1:32:53Speaker 4: Yeah, it'd need to have a flat face.
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: It's specifically geared.
- 1:32:58Speaker 4: It would get humans and pugs.
- 1:32:59Speaker 3: And orangutans. Damn, pugs. Come on, leave the plugs alone.
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: And Persian cats.
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: So it's a lovely parallel for the futility of life. Aliens. Covenant.
- 1:33:12Speaker 3: Pugs. Puts it all in perspective now, doesn't it? It does. So,
- 1:33:20Speaker 3: what's our takeaway on this one? Is it one of those? Again,
- 1:33:24Speaker 3: we didn't totally answer that question. Would you recommend it
- 1:33:27Speaker 3: to other people?
- 1:33:29Speaker 4: You said that your dad would ask you two questions.
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: Is it good and is it worth seeing? I would say, eh,
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: and sure.
- 1:33:33Speaker 3: Yeah, that's kind of my take on it too. I'm like,
- 1:33:35Speaker 3: is it great?
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: And he would get that too. He would probably go, oh, all.
- 1:33:40Speaker 3: Right, well, I'll check it out. I mean, I'm kind
- 1:33:41Speaker 3: of of the opinion in the long run that everything
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: should be viewed. You know, I'm just like, I like
- 1:33:47Speaker 3: a lot of terrible movies too. So I'm like, I
- 1:33:50Speaker 3: wouldn't have found them had I not watched something that
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: somebody else did.
- 1:33:52Speaker 4: That sucks.
- 1:33:53Speaker 3: And they might be wrong, or I might like it.
- 1:33:56Speaker 3: If you're willing to go see King Arthur, you should
- 1:33:58Speaker 3: certainly give this one a shot.
- 1:33:59Speaker 5: Definitely.
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: Or Samurai Cop.
- 1:34:02Speaker 15: Two.
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: Again, you can't necessarily go by what other people think.
- 1:34:07Speaker 3: So I'm always of the opinion of watch everything. Now, granted,
- 1:34:10Speaker 3: I'm someone who barely has time to watch anything, but
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: I still feel like you should watch everything and decide
- 1:34:15Speaker 3: for yourself and not go by what other idiots say,
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: including people on a podcast. That having been said.
- 1:34:24Speaker 4: No, we need people to want to listen to our opinions.
- 1:34:27Speaker 3: Oh, they can listen to us, but they don't have
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: to believe us or take any of this to heart.
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: No, no. I want people to base their entire lives
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: on things that I say.
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: You are the Davids in this scenario.
- 1:34:41Speaker 10: I don't want anyone to walk away with the sense
- 1:34:42Speaker 10: that I'm an idiot, though I probably sound like one.
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: Well.
- 1:34:48Speaker 2: Yeah, so what are we going to see next? Oh,
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: you know what they're filming. Okay, so they've started filming
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: the Han Solo.
- 1:34:55Speaker 3: Solo movie.
- 1:34:56Speaker 2: Solo movie.
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: No pun intended.
- 1:34:58Speaker 2: Han Solo Cup.
- 1:34:58Speaker 3: Or extra pun intended, whichever.
- 1:35:01Speaker 2: Han Solo Cup. Yeah. So that's happening.
- 1:35:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: I wonder how horrible that'll be. I doubt that'll be
- 1:35:07Speaker 3: out by next week.
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: Do you know who's playing Han Solo? That's a good question.
- 1:35:11Speaker 3: What's his name?
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: What else has he been in?
- 1:35:13Speaker 3: He's a dude.
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: Like Hendrick.
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: He's an actor and stuff.
- 1:35:18Speaker 2: He's got like two arms and two legs and hair.
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: You know, that guy with a face. A face hugger
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: would go right on that guy.
- 1:35:24Speaker 2: He's got a face made for a face hugger.
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: Made for a face hugger. We're crossing universes. It's going
- 1:35:29Speaker 3: to piss off sci-fi nerds. Alden Hellenreich. Yes, that guy.
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: But what has he been in?
- 1:35:35Speaker 2: I don't even know him.
- 1:35:36Speaker 3: You don't know people or things?
- 1:35:38Speaker 2: I don't know people or things.
- 1:35:40Speaker 4: I just don't see how he looks like.
- 1:35:42Speaker 2: He doesn't.
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: If he doesn't come across as a scoundrel, I just
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: don't care.
- 1:35:48Speaker 4: Oh, he has such a douchey smirk. Look at that
- 1:35:51Speaker 4: douchey smirk.
- 1:35:54Speaker 10: Oh.
- 1:35:55Speaker 9: That's, yeah.
- 1:35:58Speaker 4: Very douchey smirk.
- 1:35:59Speaker 3: What are you going to do?
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: Although somewhat similar to a young Harrison Ford.
- 1:36:05Speaker 4: No.
- 1:36:06Speaker 3: But he was a lovable douche.
- 1:36:09Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: Well, I mean, this would be years before A New Hope.
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: What is the.
- 1:36:15Speaker 10: Deal with female leads having completely unmemorable names and being
- 1:36:20Speaker 10: kind of just unmemorable lately?
- 1:36:21Speaker 3: In the real world or characters?
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: Well, they haven't been in really... Except for the female
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: lead in the latest Aliens movie, she was in... No, no, no, no.
- 1:36:34Speaker 3: She's in a lot of stuff.
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: Wild Beasts and Where to Find Them.
- 1:36:37Speaker 4: What?
- 1:36:37Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: She was?
- 1:36:39Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:36:39Speaker 3: Because that was my, that was my, like, real world
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: comment for her was, man, I hated that hair. Because
- 1:36:45Speaker 3: I didn't realize that was her. And then I, like,
- 1:36:47Speaker 3: was going through the actor's... Which hair? The one from... No,
- 1:36:50Speaker 3: her short hair in this movie. I'm, like, just like, oh, that's... Oh,
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: I liked it. It's terrible.
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: It's bad.
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: It's bad.
- 1:36:56Speaker 2: I had that haircut in, like, 1991.
- 1:36:57Speaker 3: Well, I mean, again, it's trying to be, like, a
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: no-nonsense military thing, I guess. But I'm just like, mm,
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: it just looks like a bad haircut.
- 1:37:04Speaker 4: They were just trying to make her another androgynous lady.
- 1:37:06Speaker 3: I know. But I'm like, that's kind of bullshit. Like,
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: she looked the way she looked before. I don't think
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: she should have to change that to fit some sort of...
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: forcing it into this character that i don't know i
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: think it would have worked just fine catherine watterson yeah
- 1:37:20Speaker 3: and i and she's like good hair no really bring.
- 1:37:22Speaker 2: Her up from um i can't remember.
- 1:37:24Speaker 15: I mean how would you no bring her it is
- 1:37:28Speaker 15: her it's a thing she's gorgeous like i did not
- 1:37:30Speaker 15: recognize her and it's something about the hair i don't
- 1:37:33Speaker 15: know what did it yeah because yeah look at her
- 1:37:35Speaker 15: there that's ridiculous.
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: We don't know that that's actually real either i mean
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: that's But it works.
- 1:37:40Speaker 3: That's a hairstyle that actually works.
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: Yes, that's probably one she goes to Walmart with.
- 1:37:46Speaker 3: I hope she doesn't have to go to Walmart. I
- 1:37:49Speaker 3: feel bad for her.
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: I hope none of us have to go to Walmart.
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: But yeah, she was in Fantastic Beasts and Where to
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: Find Them.
- 1:37:56Speaker 3: What's the other one?
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: The one right before that. Manhattan Romance? No, that crazy.
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: Lego Dimensions?
- 1:38:03Speaker 3: That's not it at all.
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: Steve Jobs.
- 1:38:05Speaker 9: Nope.
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: Keep going. Sleeping with other people. Glass chin. Inherent vice.
- 1:38:10Speaker 3: There we go. Inherent vice. Good lord. I remember at
- 1:38:14Speaker 3: the time going, wait, who is that? Where do I
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: know her from? She was in Boardwalk Empire. Yeah. She's
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: kind of awesome.
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: She's been in a lot of stuff.
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: And does a good job in this, but once again
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: is like victim to, her character can't be near as
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: grand as everything else going on, so she just kind
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: of has to, I mean that's the one thing that
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: Sigourney Weaver does, is like she takes control of those
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: movies to the point where like she overpowers a much
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: bigger story. Granted it was a lot more action and
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: horror oriented and not she.
- 1:38:46Speaker 4: Didn't get like as consumed by fear yeah it's like
- 1:38:49Speaker 4: all these characters it's like yeah you're afraid but you're
- 1:38:51Speaker 4: also gonna be a badass about it and not.
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: Just go i mean even in the first one she's
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: not she's she's out of her element she's dealing with
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: a little more of like what the fuck's going on
- 1:39:02Speaker 3: but she's just like screw this i'm once again she
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: seems professional like she's like i've been out in space
- 1:39:08Speaker 3: for a while now i know how to deal with
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: shit That includes taking care of this situation right now
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: with this thing that I'm not used to, but watch
- 1:39:15Speaker 3: me suck his ass out of this space. So from
- 1:39:18Speaker 3: the beginning, I feel like we have this super strong character,
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: female or not, which was the super impressive part of
- 1:39:25Speaker 3: that original screenplay, is Ripley's not identified either way. Ripley
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: is just the character and these are the character's lines.
- 1:39:34Speaker 3: It was never stated in the original screenplay what gender
- 1:39:37Speaker 3: she was. So only when they cast someone, they went, oh,
- 1:39:41Speaker 3: I guess Ripley's a girl. Write that down. Ripley's a girl. Like,
- 1:39:44Speaker 3: it wasn't really part of the story. It wasn't meant
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: to be about a female. It wasn't meant to be
- 1:39:49Speaker 3: about anything except these are the characters. And once again,
- 1:39:52Speaker 3: those are super strong characters. And like, even our lead here,
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: it's like, she's, She does better than the rest of them.
- 1:40:00Speaker 3: She does a good job.
- 1:40:01Speaker 4: It's almost like instead of making her actually good, they
- 1:40:03Speaker 4: just made everyone else suck so.
- 1:40:04Speaker 3: Much that they were like, oh, she's strong in comparison.
- 1:40:08Speaker 3: We'll have to attach to her because look at these
- 1:40:10Speaker 3: other nobodies. She's got a little bit of character. We
- 1:40:13Speaker 3: want to pay attention to her. Everybody else seems sort
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: of flat and devoid of humanity.
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: Who's the writing team?
- 1:40:19Speaker 3: Or the worst of humanity. I don't know.
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: Call them up. Call the writers.
- 1:40:23Speaker 3: Come on.
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: Did I fall asleep? How did Tennessee get killed?
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: He didn't. He's fine. He'll be back.
- 1:40:28Speaker 11: They just say at the end of the movie that.
- 1:40:32Speaker 3: No, because he's.
- 1:40:35Speaker 2: On the ship with her. He's probably infected too.
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: Infected?
- 1:40:40Speaker 3: We're all infected. Oh, wait, that's the zombie virus.
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: They're in cryo sleep or whatever.
- 1:40:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: And David, they say it at the end of the movie.
- 1:40:51Speaker 3: Oh, he kills him.
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: Yeah, he kills him while they're in cryo sleep.
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: Because you see him, his.
- 1:40:57Speaker 3: Does he?
- 1:40:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: Or is he just going to say something like that
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: at the end?
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: How come I can't remember?
- 1:41:03Speaker 3: Well, I mean, he's coughing up the alien embryos, so
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: I'm assuming he's going to do.
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: Whatever he wants.
- 1:41:11Speaker 10: No, but when he puts him in the cryo chamber,
- 1:41:14Speaker 10: you see his blood pressure and heartbeat go down, don't you?
- 1:41:18Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: He has a communication to whatever as Walter.
- 1:41:26Speaker 3: Yeah, he does say that.
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: And he says that Daniels and Tennessee died. Yeah, that
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: they died.
- 1:41:33Speaker 2: But I thought Tennessee did die, for sure.
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: No, I think they just show him going to sleep.
- 1:41:38Speaker 2: No, I thought they showed his.
- 1:41:41Speaker 4: Well, I guess all of your systems do go all
- 1:41:44Speaker 4: the way down when you cry asleep, so that's probably the.
- 1:41:47Speaker 3: Slow everything down.
- 1:41:48Speaker 10: No, because when Walter's checking them at the beginning, everybody
- 1:41:52Speaker 10: has a normal... They show it.
- 1:41:56Speaker 3: We're getting very medical.
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: I don't think.
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: We're getting very medical in this non-real medical world. So,
- 1:42:04Speaker 3: I don't know. It was one of those I felt
- 1:42:06Speaker 3: like if you wanted to and the story wrapped up
- 1:42:11Speaker 3: that way, it's a lot easier to just kill him off,
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: as he said.
- 1:42:14Speaker 4: I don't care if he just died.
- 1:42:16Speaker 3: If we decide we want to make a second one
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: and we want to bring Tennessee back because the crowd
- 1:42:20Speaker 3: is like Tennessee, we can be like, oh no, David
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: let him live because he wanted to implant an embryo
- 1:42:26Speaker 3: and we can loophole our way around this thing. Send
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: it to Alabama. Yeah.
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: Or Tennessee.
- 1:42:32Speaker 3: Yeah, why isn't there also a character named Bama? Or
- 1:42:35Speaker 3: is that just in Tarantino?
- 1:42:36Speaker 9: Bama.
- 1:42:36Speaker 5: I don't know. All right.
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: Have we figured this movie out? And all of humanity
- 1:42:42Speaker 3: and theology?
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: We will never figure it out. I don't know. I
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: think it's going to be, it's like, is the duress
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: blue or gold?
- 1:42:51Speaker 3: We'll spend all of eternity arguing over this movie and
- 1:42:57Speaker 3: all movies. That's what we figured out.
- 1:43:01Speaker 10: All right.
- 1:43:01Speaker 4: Cool.
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: We did it. We did it. I guess that's it then.
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: We'll have to figure out what the next round will be,
- 1:43:11Speaker 3: but I'm sure we will be back in the near
- 1:43:13Speaker 3: future with another weird movie to discuss at Great Things. Otherwise,
- 1:43:18Speaker 3: that about does it. We will return next time, same
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 1:43:22Speaker 7: There was a time I was.
- 1:43:25Speaker 8: One of a kind Lost in the world, doubting me,
- 1:43:29Speaker 8: myself And that was lonely then Like an alien But
- 1:43:39Speaker 8: I never figured it out Why I always stood like
- 1:43:44Speaker 8: a stranger in a crowd The red.
- 1:43:46Speaker 13: Was red Like an alien But the stars in the
- 1:43:52Speaker 13: sky Look like home Take me home And the lightning
- 1:44:12Speaker 13: Crossed through the universe to.
- 1:44:16Speaker 7: Get where you.
- 1:44:18Speaker 6: Are riding on a shooting star was lonely.
- 1:44:44Speaker 8: Like an alien.
- 1:44:49Speaker 7: Had to get used to the world i was Bye.
- 1:45:24Speaker 4: Bye.
- 1:45:48Speaker 9: But the stars in the sky.
- 1:46:17Speaker 7: Alone not alone.
- 1:46:54Speaker 10: I mean, I really want to say I did fall
- 1:46:56Speaker 10: asleep and I am totally confused as to what happened.
- 1:47:00Speaker 2: And I don't know if it's.
- 1:47:00Speaker 10: Because a, I fell asleep. B, I wasn't paying attention. C,
- 1:47:06Speaker 10: maybe I'm not as smart as I thought I was.
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: Or D, all of the above. Did I go into
- 1:47:10Speaker 2: E yet? But I mean, it just, the whole thing
- 1:47:12Speaker 2: did not.
- 1:47:13Speaker 3: E just proved D. Yeah.
- 1:47:16Speaker 2: The whole thing was just like, what is going on?
- 1:47:19Speaker 4: Why? And why can't it just be.
- 1:47:22Speaker 3: Well, again, it, it started that way. I mean, if
- 1:47:25Speaker 3: you want to go with the original, it's a very
- 1:47:28Speaker 3: simple horror movie. It didn't get crazy and expand into
- 1:47:32Speaker 3: giant themes. It's just good and bad. And, and again, and,
- 1:47:38Speaker 3: and the grand evil is the company like that. That
- 1:47:40Speaker 3: was the little hidden thing in the first one there.
- 1:47:43Speaker 3: And that's really as deep as it feels like it got.
- 1:47:45Speaker 3: It was very like core elements. It is just good
- 1:47:49Speaker 3: characters and a good and evil story. And yeah, finding
- 1:47:53Speaker 3: you know what good humanity there is to fight your
- 1:47:56Speaker 3: way through this evil creature and that's it whereas the
- 1:47:59Speaker 3: more and more we go on the more convoluted this
- 1:48:02Speaker 3: idea we have.
- 1:48:02Speaker 10: To cram more stuff in but i mean just breaking
- 1:48:05Speaker 10: it down it was it's seriously a confusing story to
- 1:48:08Speaker 10: me oh.
- 1:48:08Speaker 3: It is i mean anything it all continues to get
- 1:48:12Speaker 3: more and more convoluted from definitely four on i mean
- 1:48:16Speaker 3: three is still pretty simple it kind of scales it
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: back from aliens by the third one but by four
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: when we go way into the future.
- 1:48:25Speaker 10: We're cloning characters we're mutating aliens into all these other
- 1:48:29Speaker 10: bastardized things and Winona.
- 1:48:32Speaker 3: Ryder is just being cool Winona Ryder so like it
- 1:48:35Speaker 3: already gets convoluted by that fourth one if you work
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: predators into it they get ridiculous We come back to Prometheus,
- 1:48:42Speaker 3: it gets extra ridiculous.
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: So it's like, I don't know.
- 1:48:44Speaker 3: It's a lot to deal with. And it gets more
- 1:48:47Speaker 3: and more crazy each installment.
- 1:48:48Speaker 2: And that's who her haircut reminded me of. It reminded
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: me of Winona Ryder's hair.
- 1:48:52Speaker 3: I feel like at least Winona could work that for
- 1:48:55Speaker 3: a couple of years there. I don't like it as
- 1:48:57Speaker 3: much as her other original hairstyle. But if we're dealing
- 1:49:01Speaker 3: with celebrity hairstyles and their super cuteness, that kind of
- 1:49:06Speaker 3: works on Winona. So what are we going to see next?
- 1:49:09Speaker 5: Haters be hatin'. This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown,
