Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Excited to have Colin Russo on with us, the son
- 0:06Speaker 1: of Christopher mad Dog Russo. He's on four to six
- 0:08Speaker 1: pm Eastern every single day. ESPN West Palm Beach does
- 0:13Speaker 1: a great job. Right before we started here, you were
- 0:15Speaker 1: commenting on your dad's Super Bowl appearance with me and Taylor,
- 0:19Speaker 1: which I maintained is one of the all time great
- 0:21Speaker 1: radio spots in the history.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Of Super Bowl coverage. What do you think so?
- 0:27Speaker 3: I did not. I saw it when you guys posted
- 0:30Speaker 3: on YouTube, and I don't know what it was. If
- 0:33Speaker 3: he was at the bar before, what time of the
- 0:35Speaker 3: day you guys got him, if there was a gummy
- 0:38Speaker 3: he was when you know, it's just him and Eddie
- 0:40Speaker 3: Erickson and he's already bothered with Steve Tory and Adam Seine.
- 0:43Speaker 4: He's bothered everybody, and it's Eddie Erickson. That's just his
- 0:46Speaker 4: personal punching bag. It was perfect. You guys caught him
- 0:49Speaker 4: at the right time.
- 0:50Speaker 3: He was pounding Eddie Erickson for eating too much food.
- 0:53Speaker 3: He was pissed off that people didn't invite him to
- 0:55Speaker 3: any of the drinks and the dinners, and he said
- 0:57Speaker 3: there at the Super Bowl at you know seven well
- 1:00Speaker 3: seven hundred that he's been to and he's just sitting there.
- 1:02Speaker 4: He's like, come to be great.
- 1:04Speaker 3: I'm telling you, that was one of the best spots you, guys,
- 1:07Speaker 3: I've ever done. And so got to take me credit
- 1:09Speaker 3: because he came after you like one hundred times the
- 1:11Speaker 3: best he had. He goes, congratulations on Fox. Have they
- 1:14Speaker 3: found out you don't watch the games yet?
- 1:16Speaker 4: That was great?
- 1:18Speaker 2: They knew before they hired me. I told him.
- 1:21Speaker 4: That was great. That was great.
- 1:23Speaker 5: Colin sitting there, it felt like it felt like a
- 1:26Speaker 5: picture that was throwing a no hitter and everybody around
- 1:31Speaker 5: just had like a hush around them, as as your
- 1:34Speaker 5: dad is performing and I'm just sitting there pretending like
- 1:37Speaker 5: I'm in the outfield during this perfect game, being like,
- 1:39Speaker 5: please don't hit me the ball.
- 1:40Speaker 4: I don't want this ball.
- 1:43Speaker 3: Taylor's reactions were really really good during that too, especially
- 1:46Speaker 3: when we got into Eddie Erickson, who was pounded him
- 1:49Speaker 3: was just sitting there.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Like, oh my god, yes, poor Eddie, and he seriously,
- 1:54Speaker 1: it's just strap, I.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Don't know, I don't know.
- 1:59Speaker 3: You guys a good spot together, that's funny, and you
- 2:01Speaker 3: keep going after him for the Friday spots you do
- 2:03Speaker 3: with the picks and he.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Can't get pick right.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Listen, you tell your dad I love my job at Fox.
- 2:08Speaker 1: But if your dad wants a co host, he hasn't
- 2:09Speaker 1: been disengaged. It's francessa. I mean, let's go, let's get
- 2:12Speaker 1: it done.
- 2:13Speaker 3: It's good Steve Tory college smelling and Eddie Erickson.
- 2:15Speaker 4: I guess you get them out of it.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Tory is mad at me. I mean.
- 2:22Speaker 3: A legend what Chris Brusso was happy to share it
- 2:24Speaker 3: during during the show.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Yes, and I had no idea Tory was mad at me.
- 2:27Speaker 1: And I still don't know why Tory's mad at me.
- 2:30Speaker 1: I mean perhaps he hasn't you know. I reached out
- 2:32Speaker 1: to Tory one time. He said, send me a tape.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I said, here's the tape. It was your dad, who's
- 2:36Speaker 1: on with me just about every single week. I'm like,
- 2:38Speaker 1: what do you need a tape for him? But doing
- 2:39Speaker 1: this for twenty years.
- 2:41Speaker 5: The brilliance though of of Dog though, was that he
- 2:45Speaker 5: saw that beef and he immediately compared it to Jeter
- 2:48Speaker 5: and a Rod.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Yes. Yeah, trying to turn you into the third basement.
- 2:53Speaker 2: You No, I told him I'm coming in. I'm taking
- 2:54Speaker 2: Jeter spot that's what I'm doing, right.
- 2:58Speaker 4: That's great.
- 3:00Speaker 2: He's so great.
- 3:02Speaker 1: So I want to play this out speaking of greatness,
- 3:04Speaker 1: before we get to the Knicks, before we get to
- 3:06Speaker 1: your love of the Charlotte hornets, which is odd, which
- 3:09Speaker 1: surprised all of us. I want to play this sound
- 3:12Speaker 1: for you. I just have you kind of walk us
- 3:14Speaker 1: through it afterwards. This is your dad talking about Lincoln.
- 3:19Speaker 6: Grant, of course, the Union general, Lincoln's favorite general and
- 3:23Speaker 6: his best huge alcoholic tank lie crazy. And then of
- 3:27Speaker 6: course the president for eight years and try to run
- 3:29Speaker 6: again the third time, and garthieud beat him.
- 3:31Speaker 4: Anyway.
- 3:32Speaker 6: He wrote a you know, he did the Q and
- 3:34Speaker 6: A with the author who wrote the Grant biography. And
- 3:39Speaker 6: this is a Chris Christie recommendation this book, by the way,
- 3:42Speaker 6: so here give hit him the credit. But he wrote
- 3:44Speaker 6: the He asked, this is something I did not realize.
- 3:48Speaker 6: Lincoln in eighteen sixty five, in April, when he went
- 3:54Speaker 6: to the Ford Theater that night to see the play,
- 3:57Speaker 6: he invited the Grants to go with him, Ulysses and
- 4:02Speaker 6: his wife, I think her name is Julia. He asked
- 4:05Speaker 6: the Grants, Beggnam, you know the war was over a potomax.
- 4:11Speaker 6: I think I pronounced it right, oppamatics, that's correct.
- 4:14Speaker 4: You know happened. You know a couple of weeks before
- 4:16Speaker 4: that was Robert E.
- 4:17Speaker 6: Lee and he asked Lee, please, I'm going to the
- 4:20Speaker 6: theater tonight. It was good Friday, me and missus Lincoln,
- 4:24Speaker 6: could you please join us? And Grant wanted to go
- 4:26Speaker 6: in the worst way. His wife couldn't deal with Mary.
- 4:32Speaker 6: Lincoln wanted nothing to do with her. He listens, I
- 4:36Speaker 6: can't do this. I can't put up with her, for.
- 4:38Speaker 4: She're gonna drive me nuts.
- 4:39Speaker 6: Says she refused to go. So Grant said, miss President,
- 4:43Speaker 6: I can't go. If Grant went, he was going to
- 4:48Speaker 6: bring his military entourage meaning protection, meaning there's no way.
- 4:55Speaker 6: John Wilkes Booth gets into that Ford Theater with a gun.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Lincoln's alive called up the hour back into this.
- 5:06Speaker 2: That's Hall of Fame storytelling right there.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Man. It really is so a couple of things there.
- 5:11Speaker 3: First of all, I don't know where he got that from.
- 5:12Speaker 4: I don't know if he must he must be reading
- 5:14Speaker 4: a book.
- 5:15Speaker 2: But Chris Christie, he let us know.
- 5:17Speaker 4: Chris Christie books very important detail.
- 5:19Speaker 3: Yes, there's a great Netflix documentary I think I told
- 5:22Speaker 3: you guys about this last time I was on there's
- 5:24Speaker 3: a great Netflix in the documentary, it's like a retelling.
- 5:26Speaker 4: It's a story thing about James A.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Garfield winning in eighteen eighty or eighteen eighty beating He
- 5:32Speaker 3: beat Ulysses Grant, he beat Roscoe Conkling out of New York.
- 5:35Speaker 3: It was a good it's how he get president and
- 5:37Speaker 3: then he was assassinating six months in long story short
- 5:40Speaker 3: that was short of where that started, you know that
- 5:42Speaker 3: late eighteen hundreds. The one thing I say about this
- 5:45Speaker 3: a couple of picks number one, the wives.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Talking to each other in hypotheticals.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Isat like he's there, who knows what.
- 5:55Speaker 3: The what the wife is saying to the Usrand I
- 5:58Speaker 3: can't deal with the first lady?
- 6:00Speaker 4: No, don't know.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Yeah, listen, Dad claims he knows that, he knows. I'm
- 6:03Speaker 2: good with that.
- 6:03Speaker 4: You know, he noticed I can't do this. I can't
- 6:05Speaker 4: deal with the first like really, So.
- 6:09Speaker 3: It's like it really is, We're gonna have to deal
- 6:14Speaker 3: with the first lady. So let's just talk about that
- 6:16Speaker 3: for a second. But another thing, maybe I'm reading too.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Far into this. I texted about this after I saw.
- 6:23Speaker 3: This I said, the one thing about it is John
- 6:26Speaker 3: Wilkes Booth, who killed Lincoln was a famous actor. He
- 6:29Speaker 3: was a stage actor and he was like one of
- 6:31Speaker 3: the best in the country. So this is like George Clooney,
- 6:34Speaker 3: Like George Cooney is gonna be able to get you
- 6:36Speaker 3: know what I mean.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Like, yes, yes.
- 6:38Speaker 3: He's famous, he's gonna get the military entrage. It's like
- 6:41Speaker 3: I think he's get Lincoln rather.
- 6:42Speaker 4: We like it or not.
- 6:43Speaker 3: So I don't know if this was a you know,
- 6:47Speaker 3: the military Autorge makes that movie much of a difference because.
- 6:49Speaker 4: This was a famous actor.
- 6:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 6:50Speaker 4: So I said two.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Things there, and he had no rebuttal for the Wilkes
- 6:54Speaker 3: Booth being a famous actor.
- 6:55Speaker 4: Apparently the author Haze is a big deal. I don't know.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Ye, well, he said what he had to say, and
- 6:59Speaker 2: you know he moved done.
- 7:00Speaker 1: He doesn't want to hear from you.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Yeah, no, no, no.
- 7:05Speaker 1: So you saying that John Wilkes Booth was so famous
- 7:08Speaker 1: back in the day, because now you're putting yourself there
- 7:11Speaker 1: with knowledge, are you saying he was so famous that
- 7:13Speaker 1: even if the security was there, he.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Would have gotten through because they would have been hey, hey,
- 7:18Speaker 2: that's John Wilkes Booth.
- 7:19Speaker 3: I'm saying that if there was a military entourage there,
- 7:22Speaker 3: he's a famous stage actor. I don't know if they're
- 7:24Speaker 3: patting everybody down. It's not that time of day, it's
- 7:27Speaker 3: not that period, or you know, they're not walking through
- 7:30Speaker 3: a metal detector.
- 7:31Speaker 4: So I don't know either he's get through, it's not
- 7:33Speaker 4: so I.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Don't understand the idea that you know, Ulyissen says Grant
- 7:37Speaker 3: being there, therefore, everybody's going to be on their game
- 7:40Speaker 3: when the president's up there. If the President was up
- 7:42Speaker 3: there and Wilkes Booth got through, I think he's gonna
- 7:43Speaker 3: get through with you.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Listen. I'm gonna be honest. I don't know.
- 7:46Speaker 5: So Stu points for Colin here. If this was around
- 7:49Speaker 5: the horn, I'm looking up John Wilkes Booth right now.
- 7:52Speaker 5: Historians wrote that Booth won celebrity with theater goers by
- 7:56Speaker 5: his romantic personal attraction, and some critics called the handsomest
- 8:01Speaker 5: man in America and a natural genius with an astonishing memory.
- 8:05Speaker 4: This guy.
- 8:05Speaker 5: This guy's getting into wherever he wants to get into it, and.
- 8:10Speaker 4: It's not to get anywhere.
- 8:15Speaker 2: He put it on the pole. Tayler was John Wilkes booth,
- 8:20Speaker 2: the Leonardo DiCaprio of his time. Such a great poll question,
- 8:27Speaker 2: and I think he's right. Uh.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Back to your dad's super Bowl appearance on my show.
- 8:31Speaker 1: I'll tell you this quick, Stork, we'll get onto.
- 8:33Speaker 2: The next year.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I've been doing this for slightly over twenty years. My
- 8:38Speaker 1: father has called me twice after a show.
- 8:41Speaker 4: Wow.
- 8:42Speaker 1: The first time he called me after I got in
- 8:45Speaker 1: a fight with Rick Barry and made me apologize to
- 8:47Speaker 1: Rick Barry on my drive home.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Okay.
- 8:50Speaker 1: The second time was after your dad came on with
- 8:52Speaker 1: me this past Super Bowl to say exactly what it is?
- 8:55Speaker 1: You said, that's the best spot Dog has ever done.
- 8:57Speaker 3: So there's something about it. I watched that a number
- 9:02Speaker 3: of times. Too funny.
- 9:03Speaker 4: He was coming after you.
- 9:05Speaker 3: He was going up tailors, going after Eddie Erickson's Mad
- 9:08Speaker 3: Dog Radio.
- 9:09Speaker 4: He was gummied up. It was like day. I think
- 9:11Speaker 4: it was a couple of days into the super Bowl.
- 9:13Speaker 4: He loves pounding the radio. Row stuff great, it's great,
- 9:16Speaker 4: too good.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Yes, are you close with it with with Eddie? Are
- 9:19Speaker 1: you close at all with Eddie?
- 9:21Speaker 3: Edie's always around, so the thing is like Eddie's like, let's.
- 9:23Speaker 4: Do it all.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Guy, he's a great producer and they're very close. But
- 9:27Speaker 3: you know, like whenever we're for example, like every summer
- 9:30Speaker 3: we go to the Jersey Shore and Mad Dog Radio
- 9:32Speaker 3: does like a day at the bar, a at bar
- 9:33Speaker 3: anticipation down in Belmont and Belmar, and he like, we
- 9:38Speaker 3: were at my grandmother's house and like, Eddie's just hanging
- 9:41Speaker 3: out with us, like for the you know, spend two nights.
- 9:42Speaker 4: With us all. Eddie's just there. And of course it's
- 9:46Speaker 4: not just for the on air.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Eddie gets pounded whenever, you know, with or with not
- 9:50Speaker 3: the the MIC's rock.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Eddie's the butt of every joke. He runs the Twitter.
- 9:54Speaker 3: If anybody ever thinks that adding Chris Russo is going
- 9:57Speaker 3: to accomplish anything, I promise you he.
- 9:59Speaker 4: Doesn't see it. So that's number one.
- 10:01Speaker 3: Eddie runs all that. He's just do it all guy.
- 10:03Speaker 3: I love Eddie Eddie and he's and he's a very
- 10:05Speaker 3: loyal soldier.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Was there a number two or no?
- 10:07Speaker 3: I mean.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Just that's number one.
- 10:12Speaker 4: There was no number two, No number two. I did
- 10:14Speaker 4: number one.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Yes, So that the Knicks lose a heartbreaker last night,
- 10:18Speaker 1: Taylor's upset.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I'm upset.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Taylor called Mike Brown Mike clown before he's upset of
- 10:23Speaker 1: the win probability charts from ESPN. What were your thoughts
- 10:26Speaker 1: of the Niggs losing that game last night? A game
- 10:29Speaker 1: they quite frankly should have won.
- 10:30Speaker 4: So a couple of things.
- 10:31Speaker 3: They said on the broadcast that they had to time
- 10:33Speaker 3: out that last possession. I don't think they actually could
- 10:36Speaker 3: have called one correct because only called they did not
- 10:39Speaker 3: have a timeouts, and the boy tests got that wrong.
- 10:41Speaker 4: It's a terrible job there. So that's the first thing.
- 10:44Speaker 3: The second thing, people are going after Mike Brown, can
- 10:47Speaker 3: we go after Brunson a little bit? I mean Brunson,
- 10:49Speaker 3: who is mister clutch, who has been their guy to
- 10:52Speaker 3: close out games.
- 10:53Speaker 4: Number one gets stripped up to with seventeen.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Seconds to go and going right down the floor costs.
- 10:58Speaker 3: Jayalen Johnson gets the Duncan's a four point game, game
- 11:00Speaker 3: essentially over. I know he hit the two threes, especially
- 11:02Speaker 3: one to tie it at one O three, But but with.
- 11:04Speaker 4: J and also CJ.
- 11:06Speaker 3: McCollum, I mean Jalen Brunton was a cone on defense.
- 11:10Speaker 3: He was going after him every possession, and.
- 11:13Speaker 4: He was scoring. He was scoring well. So I'm going
- 11:15Speaker 4: to give a little.
- 11:15Speaker 3: Pound to Jalen Brunson for being not only a liability
- 11:18Speaker 3: on one end of the court, but he missed that
- 11:20Speaker 3: short He missed that elbow jumper from the with about
- 11:24Speaker 3: a minute and a half to go. Then he got
- 11:26Speaker 3: stripped with fifteen seconds. I know he hit the three,
- 11:28Speaker 3: but it was too little, too late. I'm more after
- 11:30Speaker 3: Jalen Brown, Jaylen Brunson than I am after Mike Brown.
- 11:34Speaker 2: So I am with you on this.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Taylor put it on a pall with Jalen Brunson, a
- 11:38Speaker 1: what do you call him?
- 11:39Speaker 2: A cone on defense track.
- 11:41Speaker 4: It was a traffic com. It was a traffic com.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Yes, you're right, he was.
- 11:44Speaker 1: He was, except the cone moves more so it was
- 11:48Speaker 1: interesting because I'm with you. Everyone's going to get on
- 11:50Speaker 1: Mike Brown today. Everyone's going to get on Carl Anthony
- 11:53Speaker 1: Towns today. And no, the guy who's been nineteen of
- 11:55Speaker 1: forty eight through the first two games of this series
- 11:58Speaker 1: is Jalen Brunson. It's a super store of the team
- 12:01Speaker 1: and he needs to be better. Like all this criticism
- 12:03Speaker 1: of Towns is ridiculous. Jalen Brunson needs to get Towns
- 12:06Speaker 1: the ball in the fourth quarter and he didn't do
- 12:09Speaker 1: it because he was chucking up shots all over the place.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it sounds good Towns playing well too, Like he's
- 12:15Speaker 3: a great second option. He is not a good first
- 12:17Speaker 3: option and he's perfect what the next trund do?
- 12:19Speaker 4: But they have to.
- 12:20Speaker 3: These stars are so afraid to not take control of games.
- 12:23Speaker 3: And there's certain guys that just want to take every
- 12:25Speaker 3: shot for themselves and want to control the game on
- 12:27Speaker 3: their own court versus guys there are maybe a little
- 12:29Speaker 3: too passive. Jokis is a good example of this. Joki
- 12:31Speaker 3: is way too passive at the end of games. Boy
- 12:33Speaker 3: is car He need to be more involved. What was
- 12:36Speaker 3: he eight of twelve yesterday? And he in the game?
- 12:37Speaker 3: He was efficient, he could score, He's good on the
- 12:41Speaker 3: he's good on the offensive, rebounds on the glass.
- 12:43Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 12:44Speaker 3: I completely agree with you on the fact that he
- 12:46Speaker 3: moved the ball a little bit more.
- 12:47Speaker 4: It shouldn't be need to be.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Jaylen Brunson is getting targeted defensively, and then the other
- 12:52Speaker 3: end of the court they get their best defender on him.
- 12:53Speaker 3: I mean I would utilize other options on the office.
- 12:56Speaker 4: On the offense, Taylor, what is.
- 12:57Speaker 1: He was eight to ten headed into the fourth Quarter'll
- 13:00Speaker 1: get the tailor's thoughts here in a second. So he
- 13:02Speaker 1: only took two shots at the fourth quarter. That's on
- 13:03Speaker 1: Jalen Brunson. He's the guy controlling the ball the entire time.
- 13:07Speaker 4: Can't do that.
- 13:08Speaker 5: My frustration isn't really Carl Anthony Towns. It's more that
- 13:12Speaker 5: it seems like the Knicks have Karl Anthony Towns. They
- 13:15Speaker 5: brought in a second coach to try to maximize Carl
- 13:18Speaker 5: Anthony Towns, and now for a second straight coach, we
- 13:21Speaker 5: get to the playoffs and this coach is kind of
- 13:23Speaker 5: looking around me and like, yeah, Carl Anthy Towns, I
- 13:25Speaker 5: don't really know how to maximize your potential.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Another thing I would add to that is, remember a
- 13:31Speaker 3: lot of the reason that they got rid of Thibodeau
- 13:33Speaker 3: is because everybody was worried about the depth of the
- 13:34Speaker 3: next and the lack of usage into the depth of
- 13:37Speaker 3: the next. And then you got Mike Brown here, who
- 13:38Speaker 3: I believe played ten guys yesterday. That's right, he did,
- 13:41Speaker 3: and Alvarado, McBride and Shaman didn't even score. So we're
- 13:46Speaker 3: utilizing the depth and the depth is not being effective.
- 13:49Speaker 3: I'm not a Tibodeau guy. I was actually in favor
- 13:51Speaker 3: of this when they actually got rid of him, because
- 13:53Speaker 3: I think Thibodeau is a floor raizer, not a ceiling
- 13:55Speaker 3: not a ceiling buster. But the one thing is they
- 13:58Speaker 3: wanted more depth than the depth is not necessarily adding
- 14:01Speaker 3: anything to the team as well.
- 14:03Speaker 2: There's no chance that Mike Brown is going to get
- 14:04Speaker 2: fired here, is there?
- 14:05Speaker 1: If they lose, even if they lose to the Hawks,
- 14:08Speaker 1: is he going to get fired?
- 14:09Speaker 3: Hawks is another thing. Hawks is another thing. Did you
- 14:11Speaker 3: guys see that it's happened while you guys are doing
- 14:13Speaker 3: the thing? Billy Donovan's not coming back as the Bulls coach,
- 14:17Speaker 3: so that was officially announced. It was his decision. The
- 14:20Speaker 3: Bulls wanted to back. So I don't know if that's
- 14:22Speaker 3: about Steve Kerr, if that's about Todd Golden potentially taking
- 14:25Speaker 3: Steve kirs job, if that's you know, all of a sudden,
- 14:27Speaker 3: there's a good Teck quick replacement in right there and
- 14:31Speaker 3: Billy Donovan.
- 14:32Speaker 4: But if they lose, I mean, think about a changer.
- 14:34Speaker 4: Things have happened.
- 14:35Speaker 3: They fired Mike Malone from Denver. I mean, they get
- 14:37Speaker 3: rid of these guys playoff success or not.
- 14:39Speaker 4: The Knicks won't do it.
- 14:40Speaker 3: It's a bad look for the owner, for the president
- 14:42Speaker 3: and for the owner and Dolan if they get rid
- 14:44Speaker 3: of two coaches in two years. But I mean, geez,
- 14:47Speaker 3: I mean, if there was a year to do it,
- 14:48Speaker 3: it's this year.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Forget about Donovan.
- 14:50Speaker 1: What if your James Dolan and Steve Kerr picks up
- 14:54Speaker 1: the phone today calls you and says, hey, I.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Want to be the next Knicks coach. What do you do?
- 15:00Speaker 3: I think if Steve Kerr calls and gives you that,
- 15:01Speaker 3: you absolutely do it. And it would be ashamed because
- 15:03Speaker 3: Mike Brown has sort of been that fiddle to curve
- 15:06Speaker 3: before in the past. He would hate that situation. But
- 15:10Speaker 3: I don't know why Kurr would do that. Why is
- 15:11Speaker 3: there so much fly, you know, rumor about current leading.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Wouldn't Kerr want to stick it out with Curry to
- 15:16Speaker 3: finish off his career sort of like embodied that culture,
- 15:20Speaker 3: built that culture.
- 15:21Speaker 4: The Warriors is a great job. They're just as valuable
- 15:23Speaker 4: as the Knicks. It's just not the Mecca.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's on it's an easier place to win
- 15:27Speaker 3: as lo and behold, it's been so the NIXI once
- 15:30Speaker 3: in seventy three, so seventy two.
- 15:31Speaker 2: What if he brings Curry though, I mean, how about that?
- 15:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know Curry's contract situation. If everybody wants
- 15:38Speaker 4: to go to the next until it's time to go
- 15:39Speaker 4: to the next, then nobody wants to go to the next.
- 15:41Speaker 3: So the same thing about Lebron. They all love the next?
- 15:44Speaker 3: Does he We have played there before, and.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Lebron loved fucking with the Knicks and fucking with their fans.
- 15:49Speaker 1: He had never had any sort of intention of coming
- 15:51Speaker 1: to New York, So.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Does he like KWHI wants the NIXT Durant wants the next?
- 15:55Speaker 3: Durant played in Brooklyn?
- 15:56Speaker 4: Like, I mean, I don't know if he's that desperate
- 15:58Speaker 4: to play for the next.
- 16:00Speaker 5: No, he had his chance, Dude, of the problem in
- 16:02Speaker 5: your hypothetical with Curry coming over to the Knicks, you
- 16:06Speaker 5: can't have Curry and Brunton playing defense on the same
- 16:09Speaker 5: side of the court. It would be games played in
- 16:12Speaker 5: the one forties fifties at that.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Point, yes, but at a good point. Yes, good point.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Did you Michael Bridges taking that final shot that that
- 16:20Speaker 3: drive you crazy that he was the one taking then?
- 16:23Speaker 1: I mean, listen, he someone had to take the shot.
- 16:25Speaker 1: They had no time out, so they had to get
- 16:27Speaker 1: a terrible look, no look, and he hit that shot
- 16:30Speaker 1: towards the end of the first half in a similar situation,
- 16:33Speaker 1: similar spot, brunts him down to the ball. Whoever gets
- 16:35Speaker 1: the ball in that spot has to take the shot.
- 16:37Speaker 2: That's it. The clock's running out.
- 16:38Speaker 5: And if you asked mckel bridges what his preferred shot
- 16:41Speaker 5: would be, it would be that mid range shot.
- 16:44Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, half way decent.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Look, it's just if I'm going to put a cap
- 16:48Speaker 3: on the Knicks game, it's CJ McCollum torts Jalen brunts
- 16:52Speaker 3: in the fourth quarter every possession they were trying to
- 16:54Speaker 3: get switches and it was Iso and he went by
- 16:56Speaker 3: him every single possession. Yet lucky that mccoum missed the
- 16:59Speaker 3: two free throws to give him chance. But this was
- 17:03Speaker 3: Jalen Brunson, in my opinion, not holding up one complete
- 17:08Speaker 3: fifty percent of the game in defensively and then offensively
- 17:11Speaker 3: not closing out games. So I can't necessarily pound Mike
- 17:13Speaker 3: Brown for how we handled it.
- 17:15Speaker 1: How do you feel about Spike Lee because he's starting
- 17:17Speaker 1: to annoy me, like he gets these guys Reggie Miller,
- 17:20Speaker 1: Trey Young, CJ. McCollum. He gets them all fired up.
- 17:23Speaker 1: They have the games of their lives at Madison Square Garden.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Just shut up and watch the game.
- 17:27Speaker 3: I mean, Jesus, there is something to it. There is
- 17:30Speaker 3: something about playing that team in that spot. Everybody wants
- 17:33Speaker 3: to be everybody's great, right And Jalen Brunston's playing at
- 17:36Speaker 3: MSG for the fiftieth time this year, whereas you know,
- 17:39Speaker 3: a lot of these guys don't play at MSG all
- 17:40Speaker 3: that often. They don't have any celebrities there. It's always
- 17:43Speaker 3: the biggest game of the night. I completely agree with
- 17:45Speaker 3: you. You are almost operating at a disadvantage because everybody plays
- 17:50Speaker 3: up to their competition. You're the team that everybody plays
- 17:52Speaker 3: up to, and that it's The Lakers probably have a
- 17:55Speaker 3: little bit of that, but the Knicks, especially because the
- 17:56Speaker 3: Knicks don't have a star, or they do have a star,
- 17:58Speaker 3: but they don't have a tough player in the league.
- 18:00Speaker 3: And I don't think once it is, they're not a
- 18:02Speaker 3: Lebron to nullify that. And that's why it was easy
- 18:05Speaker 3: when the Warriors got everybody's best shot because they had
- 18:07Speaker 3: Curry and Durant, or when the Lakers get the best shot,
- 18:09Speaker 3: and they got don Kitchen, Lebron Jalen Brouocks is not
- 18:11Speaker 3: necessarily on that level despite what people may think.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Let's test something out here because Taylor is very upset
- 18:17Speaker 1: with Mike Clown. So let's just test this out. Colin Taylor,
- 18:21Speaker 1: if I told you today, okay, today, you can get
- 18:24Speaker 1: rid of Mike Clown and replace him with Billy Donovan, would.
- 18:27Speaker 2: You do it?
- 18:29Speaker 5: As in, I'm going through the rest of the series
- 18:31Speaker 5: with Billy Donovan.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Game three Thursday in Atlanta.
- 18:35Speaker 1: You're showing up to the arena with Billy Donovan as
- 18:37Speaker 1: your head coach.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Would you do it?
- 18:39Speaker 5: No, we have to see this season through, at the
- 18:42Speaker 5: very least with Mike Brown. If Mike Brown loses to
- 18:46Speaker 5: the Hawks. I'll be at Penn Station helping impact his
- 18:50Speaker 5: bags and going back to wherever he lives. But at
- 18:54Speaker 5: the very least he deserves the chance because this entire
- 18:57Speaker 5: season has kind of led to this moment where whatever
- 19:00Speaker 5: the Knicks did in the regular season, as long as
- 19:01Speaker 5: they got one of the top seeds's gonna be fine.
- 19:04Speaker 5: Mike Brown is going to be judged based on what
- 19:06Speaker 5: the Knicks do in the playoffs. When you fire a
- 19:08Speaker 5: coach that just took you to the conference finals for
- 19:11Speaker 5: the first time in you know, twenty plus years, he
- 19:14Speaker 5: deserves at the minimum to finish out this series.
- 19:17Speaker 2: It's very nice.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Mikey A seems to disagree. I think, Mikey Wow, you know,
- 19:23Speaker 1: I think he take Billy. I know he takes Steve
- 19:25Speaker 1: Kirt today. I'm pretty certain he take Billy Donovan. I'm
- 19:27Speaker 1: pretty certain, Mikey.
- 19:29Speaker 4: I would change something right now, and yeah, it's probably
- 19:33Speaker 4: that you can't change Brunson.
- 19:36Speaker 3: You can't change you know, Karl Anthony Town I probably
- 19:39Speaker 3: change it.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Yeah, and they get rid of Spike Lee.
- 19:45Speaker 3: I take it's entirely too much. The celebrities are entirely
- 19:48Speaker 3: too much. I completely agree with you. We don't see
- 19:50Speaker 3: it every five seconds. Come on, we're bashed over the
- 19:52Speaker 3: head with it.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Colin, I know this creature very well. He take Wwin
- 19:55Speaker 1: Snyder's the head coach right now.
- 19:56Speaker 4: He would.
- 19:59Speaker 5: So for me, if you're telling me, I have to
- 20:02Speaker 5: get rid of the coach right now, or else we
- 20:05Speaker 5: we would have no chance to get them in the
- 20:08Speaker 5: off season. One of the coaches, and he's close with Colin.
- 20:13Speaker 5: Dan Hurley, I would take Dan Hurley Right now.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Everybody loves saying Hurley wants to go to the league.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Hurley would be fired within five games. He would mean
- 20:26Speaker 3: a thirty three year old professional who's been in the
- 20:28Speaker 3: NBA for twelve years. That is Hurley does not fit
- 20:31Speaker 3: the mold of what an NBA coach. He'd be out
- 20:33Speaker 3: before he came in. Now, I think Hurley loves the
- 20:36Speaker 3: nick job. I think that if there's ever an NBA
- 20:38Speaker 3: job he would take, it's not the Lakers, it is
- 20:40Speaker 3: the Knicks. Yes, And so that's one thing. He's a
- 20:42Speaker 3: he's a you know, a Northeast guy, but he is
- 20:44Speaker 3: not an NBA coach. Come on, do you see the
- 20:47Speaker 3: videos of his practice. He's going after these guys. It
- 20:50Speaker 3: not in a like, not in a completely condescending way,
- 20:53Speaker 3: but he talks to them like they're like they're you know, support,
- 20:56Speaker 3: It's like they're college students. And he can't do that
- 20:58Speaker 3: to pros. You got to be a player coach in
- 21:00Speaker 3: the pros, and it's so cutthroat the NBA, they'll get
- 21:03Speaker 3: rid of you for anything. It's not I would argue,
- 21:05Speaker 3: out of the major sports, the NBA head coach is
- 21:08Speaker 3: by far the least important comparatively to the NFL, MLB,
- 21:12Speaker 3: the managers, even hockey in the NHL.
- 21:14Speaker 4: No, the NBA is by far.
- 21:17Speaker 3: In the old days, maybe we couldn't say that, but
- 21:19Speaker 3: definitely in the last ten to fifteen years.
- 21:20Speaker 4: It is not about the coach.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Now, listen, you can only play five guys at a time.
- 21:24Speaker 1: If you have a great player, you have a chance
- 21:26Speaker 1: to win a championship. I have said this for a
- 21:27Speaker 1: number of years. I agree with your take. Phil Jackson,
- 21:30Speaker 1: to me, one of the most overrated coaches in the
- 21:33Speaker 1: history of sports. Eventually someone was going to win with
- 21:36Speaker 1: Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, and eventually someone was gonna
- 21:39Speaker 1: win with Shaq and Kobe.
- 21:41Speaker 4: Yeah. And you know, Krause did a great job.
- 21:43Speaker 3: I know he gets a lot of flack for how
- 21:44Speaker 3: he handled at Jerry Krauss, but he built an excellent roster.
- 21:47Speaker 3: You know, the first repeat they had Horace Grant there.
- 21:49Speaker 3: They were willing to pivot once Jordan kind of came out.
- 21:51Speaker 3: They had to get the team better. They brought in
- 21:53Speaker 3: Rodbin like they did a good curR got a coup coach,
- 21:56Speaker 3: so they were able to kind of change identities a
- 21:59Speaker 3: little bit, but keep the court. I mean that that
- 22:01Speaker 3: was as good of roster building as you could find
- 22:03Speaker 3: as well. So he walked into a perfect storm perfect shoes.
- 22:06Speaker 5: Yes, Stu, I mentioned Yukon earlier, and now that we're
- 22:09Speaker 5: about a month out from the tournament, I want to
- 22:12Speaker 5: revisit one of Collins takes and see if it was
- 22:14Speaker 5: just prisoner of the moment at the time, because after
- 22:18Speaker 5: Yukon beat Duke, Colin called it the best Yukon win
- 22:23Speaker 5: in the history of the program, for a program that
- 22:26Speaker 5: has won six national titles.
- 22:29Speaker 3: I got a lot of flat to this. I don't
- 22:30Speaker 3: know if you you deserved it. My dad came after
- 22:35Speaker 3: me for this lot who came after me for this saying?
- 22:37Speaker 3: You know, fly prison of the moment that Duke Yukon
- 22:40Speaker 3: Game Elite eight with the game winner. They led for
- 22:42Speaker 3: basically fifteen seconds of the entire game, game winner from
- 22:45Speaker 3: basically half court. Yes, fine one, I'll admit Duke versus
- 22:50Speaker 3: Yukon in ninety nine was a better win. He was
- 22:53Speaker 3: playing a Duke team that hadn't lost since surly not
- 22:55Speaker 3: and since early December, and Yukon, believe it or not,
- 22:58Speaker 3: and they hadn't lost games, Yukon beat them.
- 23:01Speaker 4: That's the best win in program history.
- 23:03Speaker 3: I'm not gonna sit here and say that Yukon beating
- 23:07Speaker 3: you know, Georgia Tech, or Yukon beating Butler or they're
- 23:10Speaker 3: beating San Diego State by fifteen is a better win
- 23:13Speaker 3: because it's a title game comparatively to beating Duke, who
- 23:17Speaker 3: had lost you know, three games all year, two of
- 23:20Speaker 3: which by a point. They lost to Texas Tech. Day
- 23:22Speaker 3: they lost to North Carolina. Taylor knows North Carolina didn't
- 23:25Speaker 3: lead at any point in that game until that Seth
- 23:27Speaker 3: Trimble game winner.
- 23:28Speaker 4: They Texas Tech. They blew the game.
- 23:31Speaker 3: That Duke team was excellent, and that was, to me,
- 23:34Speaker 3: I'll say, his second biggest win.
- 23:36Speaker 4: In program history. So I think come off my hill
- 23:38Speaker 4: that much.
- 23:39Speaker 1: No, So first off, I'll say I'm proud of you
- 23:40Speaker 1: because that's a great take. You need to come up
- 23:42Speaker 1: with different takes in sports radio, and you certainly did.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Whether you believe it or not, it doesn't matter. You're
- 23:46Speaker 2: going to stay in trench. And I would also, yeah,
- 23:50Speaker 2: I would.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Also argue this, okay, that Duke who has a similar
- 23:55Speaker 1: resume to Yukon in terms of college basketball and what
- 23:58Speaker 1: they've done historically. You can make an argument the most
- 24:01Speaker 1: famous game in Duke history was the Elite eight game
- 24:05Speaker 1: Latner shot against Kentucky that got them to a Final four.
- 24:08Speaker 2: You could make that argument.
- 24:09Speaker 4: You good, Yeah, no doubt, no doubt. And that was
- 24:12Speaker 4: sort of a prespose.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Of a huge sort of dynasty that had there in
- 24:15Speaker 3: the early nineties.
- 24:16Speaker 4: I grace.
- 24:17Speaker 3: It's about who you beat, how you beat them. They
- 24:20Speaker 3: come from behind nature. The shot, the moment that Yukon
- 24:23Speaker 3: shot was as good of an NCAA tournament shot as
- 24:25Speaker 3: I've seen in my life. So I called me crazy,
- 24:29Speaker 3: But I can't see and say fifty four forty six
- 24:33Speaker 3: Yukon over Georgia Tech. I can't sit here and tell
- 24:36Speaker 3: me that was.
- 24:36Speaker 4: You know what a win?
- 24:38Speaker 3: Come on, guys, scroll come on San Diego State really as.
- 24:41Speaker 4: A five seed. I'm not listening to that. I'm gonna
- 24:43Speaker 4: be honest with you.
- 24:44Speaker 2: So how did this happen? Your dad heard the take?
- 24:46Speaker 2: He then calls you. What does he say to you? Like?
- 24:48Speaker 2: He says, college, they won all these national championships. What
- 24:50Speaker 2: are you talking about?
- 24:51Speaker 4: Reading my quote for Betam on air?
- 24:53Speaker 3: He reads it for Betam on air and he goes,
- 24:55Speaker 3: Colin's gotta calm down.
- 25:01Speaker 2: From the guy who said it would still be alive.
- 25:03Speaker 3: I mean, Colin's got to calm down. Don's got to
- 25:06Speaker 3: calm down. I don't know, but it was funny me
- 25:10Speaker 3: getting pounded to that. I did not think that was fair.
- 25:12Speaker 3: I did not think that was fair.
- 25:14Speaker 2: So just no, it wasn't fair.
- 25:16Speaker 1: But it just dawned on me how you became a
- 25:18Speaker 1: Hornets fan because of you com right, because of Kemba.
- 25:20Speaker 4: Yes, Kemba that was me growing up.
- 25:22Speaker 3: And Kemba was at you know that that massive run
- 25:25Speaker 3: in twenty eleven. Uh, and then I followed him to
- 25:27Speaker 3: the Bobcats. Remember he got drafted. It was the blockout
- 25:29Speaker 3: year and they went nine and.
- 25:30Speaker 4: Fifty eight, right, So it was one of.
- 25:32Speaker 3: The worst teams in the history of basketball. You Gerald Henderson,
- 25:35Speaker 3: the whole crew, and so I've been kind of sticking
- 25:39Speaker 3: with them ever since. Now, the problem is the Hornets
- 25:41Speaker 3: haven't made Basically, they've never won a seven game series,
- 25:44Speaker 3: so I don't.
- 25:45Speaker 4: Know what the end.
- 25:46Speaker 3: They had a terrible performance on Friday. If you guys
- 25:49Speaker 3: watch that Magic game, it was one of the worst
- 25:50Speaker 3: games I've ever watched. But yes, Kempball was the reason
- 25:53Speaker 3: I shifted over to the Hornets.
- 25:54Speaker 2: All right, it's a tailor, it's set. So you're still
- 25:56Speaker 2: a Hornets.
- 25:56Speaker 4: Fan, correct, Yes, yes, sir, yeah, I'm.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Like, that's unfortunate. I'm sorry. I mean, I'm a.
- 26:02Speaker 4: Small market fin I've got weird fandoms.
- 26:04Speaker 3: I'm not. I grew up in the New York area,
- 26:06Speaker 3: but my dad's not a New York sports fan.
- 26:07Speaker 4: And by the time I.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Was really growing up, you know, he used to be
- 26:11Speaker 3: a Packer fan, but he wasn't necessarily he wasn't watching
- 26:14Speaker 3: He wasn't Green Gold every every Sunday watching the game,
- 26:17Speaker 3: you know, thinking about he loves Lombardi. He doesn't love
- 26:19Speaker 3: the Packers, loves Lombardy.
- 26:20Speaker 4: Yes and yes, yeah.
- 26:24Speaker 3: I wasn't necessarily raised in a Packer household. I was
- 26:27Speaker 3: raised in a household where Chris Brusso and father Rob
- 26:30Speaker 3: Will put money on Saint Bonaventure over under. So I
- 26:33Speaker 3: wasn't necessarily It wasn't like I had a steeler like
- 26:37Speaker 3: you know in my bedroom when I was eight years old.
- 26:38Speaker 3: Didn't necessarily happen. So I kind of had my free
- 26:40Speaker 3: will to take whatever I wanted, and I liked the
- 26:43Speaker 3: small market team because I like having my own contrarian
- 26:45Speaker 3: at heart. So I like having my own team. So
- 26:47Speaker 3: I'm a Jags fan. I'm a Hornets fan. My dad
- 26:51Speaker 3: did San Francisco Giant fan. I said, screwed that, let's
- 26:53Speaker 3: go across the Bay. I'm an Oakland Athletics fan. I'm
- 26:55Speaker 3: still Holm in Oakland, and and you know hockey. I
- 26:58Speaker 3: think hockey is a regional sport since we're in Florida.
- 27:00Speaker 3: I do root for the Panthers, but I was an
- 27:02Speaker 3: Islanders fan growing up.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Okay, good?
- 27:04Speaker 1: Uh do you still call them the Oakland A's putting
- 27:06Speaker 1: on the Poul.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Taylor because I still do it.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Well, there'll be yes, Las Vegas come on the terrible
- 27:16Speaker 3: I hate that more than anything.
- 27:17Speaker 4: But they're actually pretty good right now.
- 27:18Speaker 1: So so Taylor headed no ounce before anyone else that
- 27:23Speaker 1: the Hornets were going for it right now.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Uh. And it looked good for a while until they
- 27:28Speaker 2: played the.
- 27:29Speaker 1: Game they played the other night, and they turned back
- 27:31Speaker 1: into the Charlotte Hornets.
- 27:32Speaker 2: That was depressing because that team is good. Many team's good. Yeah.
- 27:39Speaker 3: They they were second in the league in offensive ratings
- 27:41Speaker 3: since All Star Break.
- 27:43Speaker 4: I mean they could score Conk Nipple was a no show.
- 27:45Speaker 4: He was beat up.
- 27:46Speaker 3: You know he played you know eighty he played eighty
- 27:48Speaker 3: some games. But uh, they need a big there. They're
- 27:51Speaker 3: a piece or two away. They need some depth. They
- 27:53Speaker 3: need another big LaMelo. I mean people have been criticizing LaMelo.
- 27:58Speaker 3: I think a lot of it is warranted in terms of,
- 28:00Speaker 3: you know, how he handled himself. I didn't think he
- 28:02Speaker 3: handled the bam out of bio thing properly.
- 28:04Speaker 4: But he's the.
- 28:05Speaker 3: Type of player where there's a lot of them.
- 28:08Speaker 4: You got to deal with their bs.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Like there was a lot of players throughout all sports
- 28:11Speaker 3: where they drive you crazy until they make big plays.
- 28:14Speaker 3: That's Lamolo ball. He's one of those guys. So you
- 28:16Speaker 3: just have James Harden's a gond example of this. You
- 28:18Speaker 3: got to deal with their nonsense because eventually or Kyrie,
- 28:22Speaker 3: eventually they're gonna put you in a great spot and
- 28:26Speaker 3: win you game.
- 28:26Speaker 4: That's what LaMelo is in a lot of ways.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Yep, will you be into the draft this week? What's
- 28:31Speaker 2: going on there?
- 28:32Speaker 3: Yeah? I'll be into the draft. I think a lot
- 28:34Speaker 3: of people. The one thing about draft season is it
- 28:36Speaker 3: is funny. This week is good. Three weeks ago, two
- 28:40Speaker 3: weeks ago, the fabrication of stories, trying.
- 28:42Speaker 4: To come up with like an angle.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I think dan Orlowski did that very blatantly with
- 28:46Speaker 3: the ty Simpson thing a couple weeks ago.
- 28:48Speaker 4: You know, ESPN had a slow week, so t goes.
- 28:50Speaker 3: I think ty Simpson's QB one and the that I've
- 28:52Speaker 3: heard from general managers and every other guy who's involved
- 28:54Speaker 3: in the draft, say, is I talked to every general manager. No,
- 28:57Speaker 3: nobody agrees with you. So I don't know who you're
- 28:58Speaker 3: talking to.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Yes, I don't know.
- 29:02Speaker 4: What you're talking to. He's one of those the draft.
- 29:05Speaker 3: It's very easy to discept to decipher when these guys
- 29:08Speaker 3: are trying to fabricate a story. But I'll be into it.
- 29:11Speaker 3: You know, there's a couple offensive pieces. I think the
- 29:14Speaker 3: Giants are in an excellent spot without trading Dex to
- 29:16Speaker 3: Lawrence with the right move. They didn't want to pay him, fine,
- 29:19Speaker 3: they have enough pieces on that defensive line. They need
- 29:21Speaker 3: two defensive players. I don't think they go receiver. I
- 29:23Speaker 3: think you get go, get styles, go get Caleb Downs,
- 29:26Speaker 3: call it a day, and in two defensive players from
- 29:28Speaker 3: a good defense.
- 29:29Speaker 4: I think that's the move.
- 29:29Speaker 3: So I actually the Giants are going to be interesting,
- 29:32Speaker 3: and I think the Browns are going to be interesting.
- 29:34Speaker 3: I think where Jeremiah Love is going to be interesting.
- 29:36Speaker 3: But you know, outside of it will be a good draft.
- 29:38Speaker 3: The thing is there's not a lot of quarterbacks, so
- 29:40Speaker 3: people are not necessarily in tune. Outside of Ty Simpson,
- 29:43Speaker 3: nobody's really in tune about who's going to trade up.
- 29:45Speaker 3: Those are the guys who really make big moves.
- 29:47Speaker 4: To trade up for.
- 29:48Speaker 3: It's like a high level quarterback or the Travis Hunters
- 29:51Speaker 3: of the ward, which this draft doesn't have.
- 29:52Speaker 1: So Mikey just dawned on me. Chris Sim's going to
- 29:55Speaker 1: join us tomorrow. And Colin is a Jags fan. He's
- 29:59Speaker 1: a Jags fan, Hornets fan, an A's fan, and an
- 30:01Speaker 1: Islander fan.
- 30:02Speaker 2: He makes me feel good about my fandom somehow.
- 30:05Speaker 1: But it just thought we could ask him the question
- 30:07Speaker 1: that we've asked Chris Simms for years now, Trevor Lawrence.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Is he good?
- 30:16Speaker 4: That's the answer. That's the answer. He's in between. He's
- 30:20Speaker 4: in between.
- 30:21Speaker 3: I like Lawrence. There's another good example. You gotta deal
- 30:24Speaker 3: with his BS and he's not. It's not that off the.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Field you deal with BS on the field.
- 30:28Speaker 3: You deal with this, you know, dropping back in the
- 30:31Speaker 3: pocket and nobody strips him and he just loses the ball,
- 30:33Speaker 3: and then it's bubble turnover in the first quarter. You're
- 30:35Speaker 3: gonna deal with that because then all of a sudden,
- 30:37Speaker 3: you know, on the third quarter, we're third and eleven
- 30:40Speaker 3: on a huge drive, He'll roll out left and fire
- 30:42Speaker 3: a dark twenty five yards down the field. Who was thinking,
- 30:44Speaker 3: Oh my god, who can make that?
- 30:45Speaker 1: Bro?
- 30:46Speaker 2: That's him.
- 30:47Speaker 4: That's what he does.
- 30:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I've learned to love it. It's the Trevor Lawrence experience.
- 30:52Speaker 3: You watch a jack scam. You did the Jack the
- 30:54Speaker 3: Bill playoff game is a good example that you.
- 30:56Speaker 4: Watch a jag scam. You see the highs and lows,
- 30:59Speaker 4: the rollercoaster. He a roller coaster quarterback.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Yes he really is.
- 31:03Speaker 1: But your response was the perfect response because no one
- 31:06Speaker 1: really has an answer.
- 31:07Speaker 4: I mean, it's up and down.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Oh my god, what do you make of the Mets?
- 31:14Speaker 2: Here are the Mets ever gonna win again?
- 31:16Speaker 3: Colin?
- 31:16Speaker 2: I mean, what do we do?
- 31:17Speaker 3: So what's the level here of when the Mets would
- 31:20Speaker 3: make a change, Let's say, get rid of.
- 31:21Speaker 4: Mendoza my manager right now, Carlos Mendoza, Mike Brown, that's
- 31:28Speaker 4: the real question.
- 31:29Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, that's pretty good. That's pretty good right now,
- 31:34Speaker 3: doesn't it. It's a little early, but I mean, I
- 31:39Speaker 3: think there's only been like three teams in the history
- 31:41Speaker 3: of baseball that I've ever lost eleven in a row
- 31:43Speaker 3: and have made the postseason. I mean, the Mets have
- 31:47Speaker 3: the thing about these teams that you see throughout baseball. Yeah,
- 31:49Speaker 3: the Dodgers keep adding, but there's a lot of continuity.
- 31:51Speaker 3: The Yankees are good about that. The Yankees keep a
- 31:53Speaker 3: lot of continuity with the team.
- 31:54Speaker 4: Whether you like it or not.
- 31:55Speaker 3: Yankee fans would say that drives you nuts. But at
- 31:57Speaker 3: the very least, like you have the Bellingers, the Judges
- 31:59Speaker 3: of the world. The Stanton's always been there. You know,
- 32:01Speaker 3: they have a couple of pieces, Ben Rice who didn't
- 32:03Speaker 3: put out, Garrett Cole Rodon's now been there for a
- 32:06Speaker 3: couple of years. They have continuity, right, They changed the outsides.
- 32:10Speaker 3: That's what the Dodgers do. The Mets, outside of Lindor
- 32:14Speaker 3: have really gutted a lot of the identity of the
- 32:17Speaker 3: team pretty much every single year for the last three
- 32:19Speaker 3: or four years. And you know, they had they tried
- 32:22Speaker 3: the Erlinder Shuzer experiment and that completely blow up in
- 32:25Speaker 3: their face. Then they had that little underdog mentality in
- 32:27Speaker 3: twenty four where you know, they get into this postseason
- 32:30Speaker 3: in game one, sixty three and against Atlanta. They have
- 32:33Speaker 3: that awesome series against Milwaukee where Alonzo hits the game
- 32:35Speaker 3: winner in Game three, so they had all that a
- 32:38Speaker 3: game winner, they walk off in game three and they
- 32:42Speaker 3: do that.
- 32:42Speaker 4: They have this little underog ittality.
- 32:44Speaker 3: Then they turn around, they're the biggest spenders in free
- 32:45Speaker 3: agency and now the America's rich team, and they get
- 32:48Speaker 3: Soda and Soda doesn't.
- 32:49Speaker 4: Really pick it up.
- 32:50Speaker 3: They do this, They do that, They let Alonzo walk,
- 32:52Speaker 3: who was a fixture of that team. They get Peralta
- 32:55Speaker 3: in there, they bring in Bashett now he's playing out
- 32:57Speaker 3: of position.
- 32:58Speaker 4: It's just they have two much change.
- 33:01Speaker 3: There's nothing consistent about the Mets, and therefore you're not
- 33:04Speaker 3: going to get consistent results. This is not a buy
- 33:07Speaker 3: a build a team in the year. It's not college football,
- 33:09Speaker 3: it's not college basketball. This is the Major League Baseball
- 33:12Speaker 3: where you need to, in my opinion, have some continuity
- 33:15Speaker 3: year in a year out, because that's what determines whether
- 33:17Speaker 3: a team is consistent or not.
- 33:18Speaker 4: The Phillies.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Phillis about a lot of the same guys, and the
- 33:20Speaker 3: Phillies are not playing well right now, but they've been
- 33:22Speaker 3: a fixture of the postseason. The Braves are another good
- 33:24Speaker 3: example of this. They didn't necessarily they got rid of
- 33:26Speaker 3: the skipper, they didn't blow up the roster, and because
- 33:29Speaker 3: they got they know, they got guys, and the Mets
- 33:30Speaker 3: have good players.
- 33:32Speaker 4: I would get rid of Mendoza.
- 33:33Speaker 3: I would maybe give it to some point in late May,
- 33:36Speaker 3: if there's still you know, head games back.
- 33:38Speaker 4: I think we're having a conversation. But they got a
- 33:41Speaker 4: home stretch here.
- 33:42Speaker 3: They got like the the Nationals, they got the Twins,
- 33:45Speaker 3: they got beatable teams on the Rockies.
- 33:47Speaker 4: Yes, I would say that the Vets need to You
- 33:49Speaker 4: need to.
- 33:50Speaker 3: Get out of that at you know, winning most of
- 33:52Speaker 3: those games. You know the next nine you got to
- 33:54Speaker 3: go six and three, seven and two. If you don't
- 33:55Speaker 3: do that, you come out of that. You know there's
- 33:57Speaker 3: three and seven. Mendoza's to be the first to go.
- 34:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I think I think you give him this week
- 34:03Speaker 5: to try to turn it around.
- 34:05Speaker 4: Uh.
- 34:05Speaker 5: David Searns, the team's president of baseball operations, met with
- 34:09Speaker 5: the media before the CUB series on Friday, and he said,
- 34:13Speaker 5: I think Mendy's doing a really good job. He's putting
- 34:15Speaker 5: our players in a position to succede. He's enormously consistent.
- 34:20Speaker 5: I don't think you could fire a coach a week
- 34:23Speaker 5: after giving him that kind of vote of confidence, right,
- 34:26Speaker 5: But at some point, if the if the losing streak,
- 34:30Speaker 5: even if the losing street doesn't continue, if you keep
- 34:33Speaker 5: losing to two out of three to some of these
- 34:35Speaker 5: bad teams, at some point you kind of have to
- 34:37Speaker 5: put your foot down and be like, even if you
- 34:39Speaker 5: don't believe it's Mendoza's fault, somebody has to be held
- 34:43Speaker 5: accountable for this.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Well, that's why he's saying it. Well, he's saying, no,
- 34:46Speaker 1: you can't do it now. But if they go three
- 34:47Speaker 1: and six over the next nine, which is another week,
- 34:50Speaker 1: we can change that.
- 34:50Speaker 2: You can fire him after making those comments.
- 34:53Speaker 4: At home too.
- 34:53Speaker 5: At home, yes, yeah, And you've you've you've changed your
- 34:56Speaker 5: the core of your team, You've changed some coaches. The
- 34:59Speaker 5: last thing that you really haven't changed is Stearns and Mendoza.
- 35:03Speaker 5: And if if push comes to shove, Sterns is shoving
- 35:07Speaker 5: Mendoza in front of this train.
- 35:10Speaker 3: It's it's the worst franchise you could possibly lose these
- 35:12Speaker 3: games because not only the Nets fans expect it because the.
- 35:14Speaker 4: Mets were always met.
- 35:15Speaker 3: But the thing about it is there is now the
- 35:18Speaker 3: off I don't know how true this is. I believe
- 35:20Speaker 3: this was the Francissa thing that came out with Lindoor
- 35:23Speaker 3: and the political the clubhouse differences that stemmed because of
- 35:28Speaker 3: Francisco Lindor and then Brandon Nemo now turns into Ted
- 35:32Speaker 3: Williams with Texas and we got we bring back in
- 35:36Speaker 3: Marcus Simeon. There's a shell of himself, one more good player,
- 35:39Speaker 3: but you know, a shell of himself. And then now
- 35:44Speaker 3: that it just looks that much worse. I don't know
- 35:46Speaker 3: what they do in terms of how quickly they make
- 35:48Speaker 3: a change. I would have to imagine it. It's another
- 35:51Speaker 3: couple of weeks before they really do something drastic. But
- 35:54Speaker 3: you know what's funny about Stearns to you mentioned him,
- 35:57Speaker 3: he left the Brewers, the people, the Cubs it with Counsel.
- 36:00Speaker 3: They got Greig Counsel from the Brewers, And I'm saying
- 36:03Speaker 3: this happens with a lot of these small market great.
- 36:05Speaker 4: Teams they got.
- 36:07Speaker 3: The counsel went to the Cubs, and then Stearns went
- 36:09Speaker 3: to the Mets, and the Bruis are still good. So
- 36:13Speaker 3: it's maybe it's a little less about the guys actually
- 36:15Speaker 3: running the show more about the actual stability of the franchise.
- 36:17Speaker 3: It is crazy to say that because counsels with the
- 36:21Speaker 3: Cubs the less success comparatively to what Pat Murphy did
- 36:24Speaker 3: with the Bruce. David Stearns took over a big shop,
- 36:27Speaker 3: was playing moneyball with the Brewis and now has to
- 36:30Speaker 3: play monopoly with the Mets, and it's a whole different
- 36:34Speaker 3: ballgame for him. It's not like the small market guy
- 36:36Speaker 3: is going to be excellent once you give him all
- 36:38Speaker 3: the money in the world. So it's harder to run
- 36:39Speaker 3: a team, you know. A former Steve Phillips used to
- 36:43Speaker 3: say that it's sometimes hard to un a team when
- 36:45Speaker 3: you have unlimited money comparatively to win you're on a budget.
- 36:48Speaker 1: Yes, I'm glad you brought up Steve Phillips because your
- 36:50Speaker 1: dad owes me two guests from his rollodecks and he
- 36:53Speaker 1: keeps he keeps floating Steve Phillips by me and just
- 36:56Speaker 1: do me a favorite. Tell him I don't want Steve Phillips. Okay,
- 37:01Speaker 1: I don't have the heart to tell him.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Colin.
- 37:05Speaker 4: He loves street folks.
- 37:05Speaker 3: He has him on a lot, I know, which is
- 37:08Speaker 3: why I don't want him on.
- 37:09Speaker 2: I want, I want him Nance, I want. I told
- 37:11Speaker 2: him I wanted dance, so his response to me.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Was, hey, I reached out to dance, but he decided
- 37:16Speaker 1: to go on with McAfee.
- 37:21Speaker 3: I don't know. He doesn't get mad steadies. I don't
- 37:23Speaker 3: think he got Nance for the Master's Week. I don't
- 37:25Speaker 3: think he did.
- 37:26Speaker 2: He did it. No, he did it.
- 37:27Speaker 1: So I drive home at five and I'm listening to
- 37:30Speaker 1: him on the air and he's blasted Eddie, get me worry,
- 37:33Speaker 1: And I said, well, listen, I got his number because
- 37:35Speaker 1: I knew because me and I had him on time,
- 37:39Speaker 1: and I have his number, and I'm like, dog, I
- 37:40Speaker 1: have his number, get me Nance.
- 37:42Speaker 3: Yeah, trade, I'll trade you the numbers. Get me Nancy's number,
- 37:45Speaker 3: I get your rorys. That's the one way to do it.
- 37:47Speaker 1: So good four to six every day, Monday through Friday.
- 37:50Speaker 2: Uh, ESPN West Palm. What do you leave the show
- 37:53Speaker 2: with today?
- 37:54Speaker 4: Uh?
- 37:54Speaker 3: You're probably doing the NIXT today, you know, it's South Florida, Stewart,
- 37:56Speaker 3: you know this like you know it's.
- 37:58Speaker 2: You're in New York in West pom.
- 38:00Speaker 3: Here essentially in New York City. So you're definitely doing
- 38:02Speaker 3: the next today to start. But it's interesting because this
- 38:05Speaker 3: is not Dolphins country in this is nixt country. But
- 38:08Speaker 3: like there's a lot of Philly fans, there's a lot
- 38:09Speaker 3: of Boston fans, so you have you can creatively do its.
- 38:12Speaker 3: You sort of treat like a national program like Fox Sports.
- 38:14Speaker 4: So yes, you do it like that.
- 38:17Speaker 3: So uh, but I'll probably do the next today to start.
- 38:19Speaker 4: Now, let me ask you this.
- 38:20Speaker 3: I'm curious, did the Fox Sports guys who do the
- 38:23Speaker 3: national lineup do they come on with you guys?
- 38:26Speaker 6: Uh?
- 38:26Speaker 2: You mean like cow Patrick Howard?
- 38:29Speaker 4: Have you had Patrick? Have you had those guys?
- 38:30Speaker 2: No, I spent my time.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Well, we've had Ai, Colin Cowherd on he's on the
- 38:35Speaker 1: Fox Sports app. Yes, we make fun of Colin Cowherd.
- 38:39Speaker 1: Dan Patrick is a friend of mine. He's been on
- 38:41Speaker 1: the show before and I'm certainly have asked him he
- 38:43Speaker 1: would do it again.
- 38:44Speaker 2: Uh.
- 38:44Speaker 1: But to answer your question, the only two we've had
- 38:48Speaker 1: on LeVar Arrington and Brady Quin that's it.
- 38:53Speaker 3: Okay, what about the TV GUYSH TV guys.
- 38:56Speaker 1: We have not had any sort of success with any
- 38:58Speaker 1: of the TV guys.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Haven't to know.
- 39:02Speaker 1: I haven't really in Mangenie Man Genie, Yeah we had
- 39:06Speaker 1: Man Jeanie.
- 39:06Speaker 2: I guess Sandy Parkins. Yeah, but who are you thinking?
- 39:09Speaker 2: I tell me who you're thinking.
- 39:11Speaker 3: I was just thinking of the guys out loud of
- 39:13Speaker 3: but so TV. I'm surprised, you know you didn't try
- 39:16Speaker 3: for Nick right, eventually, I guess Teddy Parkins makes sense?
- 39:19Speaker 4: Uh, you know Willdess Uh?
- 39:21Speaker 3: Uh?
- 39:22Speaker 4: Who else is on that?
- 39:23Speaker 2: I mean, Nix's a friend.
- 39:24Speaker 1: If I asked Nick, he's gonna say, yes, I was.
- 39:26Speaker 2: I was thinking, you know, like Brady, you know yeah,
- 39:29Speaker 2: oh yeah.
- 39:30Speaker 4: I don't know about That's a good point.
- 39:32Speaker 3: You could ask for Brady. You you can't ask for Brady.
- 39:35Speaker 2: Yes, no, we should.
- 39:36Speaker 4: He's good with the Fox guys. He's going to the
- 39:37Speaker 4: Fox guys.
- 39:38Speaker 1: I know we're gonna ask for bra Brady's been on
- 39:40Speaker 1: before as well.
- 39:40Speaker 2: He was on the same time Worry was on.
- 39:42Speaker 3: I think, oh, hey, geez, can get Brady. Give give
- 39:46Speaker 3: me Brady somewhere. We can get him on Rush Riz.
- 39:49Speaker 3: That would be worth it.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Listen, you go into your dad's phone and you get
- 39:52Speaker 1: me jim Nance's number, and I'll get Brady on for you.
- 39:55Speaker 2: How about that?
- 39:55Speaker 4: All right, well, well we'll figure that out.
- 39:57Speaker 2: I can figure that, Mike.
- 39:59Speaker 4: He's like, what do you do?
- 40:00Speaker 2: You would know? But there's a whole lot of empty
- 40:02Speaker 2: promises happening right now.
- 40:06Speaker 4: By the way, chance I can get you Nancy, and
- 40:08Speaker 4: you can get me Brady, I'm gonna well, listen, I
- 40:10Speaker 4: can get you Jay Glazer.
- 40:11Speaker 2: I mean, all right, well we'll take Jake Glazier.
- 40:13Speaker 4: We'll take Jay Blazer. That's a safe bet. We could
- 40:15Speaker 4: take Lazer.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Listen, your dad ruined all my golf relationships here in
- 40:18Speaker 1: South Florida.
- 40:19Speaker 2: I mean he tour board Deer Creek apart. I mean.
- 40:23Speaker 4: He did.
- 40:24Speaker 3: He went right after the courses. He played you for
- 40:26Speaker 3: the weather.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Yeah, he blamed me, Brendan. He definitely took a gummy
- 40:30Speaker 2: all right.
- 40:30Speaker 1: Check him out four to six pm Eastern every day, ESPN,
- 40:33Speaker 1: West Palm. He's fantastic. I'm glad we did this, Colin.
- 40:36Speaker 1: Thank you for doing it.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Man.
- 40:37Speaker 3: I appreciate it, guys. As always, I appreciate it and Taylor,
- 40:41Speaker 3: Mike two, got you.
- 40:42Speaker 4: Guys do a great job.
