- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello everybody, and welcome to a special Christmas edition of
- 0:12Speaker 1: Cardinal Territory. Jim Hayes alongside Matt Holiday and right behind me.
- 0:17Speaker 1: I had a problem that I wanted to show. I
- 0:19Speaker 1: don't know if we can get that in there because
- 0:21Speaker 1: I have a blank wall. This is my diploma from
- 0:24Speaker 1: Geneseo State. Man. I know that impresses you, but I
- 0:28Speaker 1: see these these sets that people have, and they've got
- 0:31Speaker 1: Emmys and everything. I'm in a guest bedroom. I just
- 0:36Speaker 1: pulled that out of my closet.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I'm gonna guess is the ink still. I'm guessing it's fading, right,
- 0:43Speaker 2: I'm guessing.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Still it still looks good. They probably did it. They
- 0:47Speaker 1: probably did it with one of those old fountain pens.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Back when I was in college nineteen, I was, yeah,
- 0:57Speaker 1: this gave me a really mediocre career in broadcasting. So
- 1:01Speaker 1: thank you, Jennie.
- 1:03Speaker 2: That's a way better degree than I have.
- 1:06Speaker 1: So what you don't need a degree?
- 1:10Speaker 2: Well, I signed you know, I got a high school
- 1:13Speaker 2: of di Plomba, but that's about all I got.
- 1:14Speaker 1: So well, you got some big contracts along the way.
- 1:17Speaker 1: I'd rather have that signed on the dotted line than
- 1:19Speaker 1: from some college administrator. All right, it is a special
- 1:24Speaker 1: Christmas edition. So I came up with a few questions Matt,
- 1:27Speaker 1: and then we're going to take a break and then
- 1:29Speaker 1: we're gonna get Matt Holidays Christmas plans. But my first
- 1:32Speaker 1: question is your friends with Ali Marmle. I mean not
- 1:36Speaker 1: let you guys have a good relationship. You probably snapchat,
- 1:39Speaker 1: FaceTime and do all that stuff. Yes, you do. Yes,
- 1:43Speaker 1: What if you were getting a gift for Ali Marmle?
- 1:46Speaker 1: And I don't know if you actually are. Maybe the
- 1:49Speaker 1: families will tell you send them a you know, fruitcake
- 1:52Speaker 1: or a fruit basket. What would you get for Ali Marmle?
- 1:56Speaker 2: Is this like a like player type of question? Is
- 2:00Speaker 2: just like knowing him personally? What he would like?
- 2:05Speaker 1: All of the bubble here. I'm gonna give you my
- 2:06Speaker 1: answer first, and you can play off that.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Okay, okay.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I would get him his own special customized Cardinal jersey
- 2:17Speaker 1: with the sleeves cut off, just like the old timers did.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Because he likes to show off the guns and and
- 2:26Speaker 1: he you know, he wears his hat backwards. He kind
- 2:29Speaker 1: of walks around like he's, you know, got the groceries
- 2:32Speaker 1: under the arms. I would get him that and I
- 2:34Speaker 1: think he could rock it. That's what I would get
- 2:36Speaker 1: him for for Christmas if I were getting.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I mean, I think, I think along the same lines.
- 2:43Speaker 2: He's getting to the age where plugs. I mean, he's
- 2:50Speaker 2: losing his hair. It takes one to know one. And
- 2:57Speaker 2: I don't know if I believe in the you know
- 3:00Speaker 2: all the ads where you you know, the the pills
- 3:04Speaker 2: that help your hair grow back. I would send him
- 3:09Speaker 2: to wherever Lebron brought his back from all those years
- 3:16Speaker 2: when Lebron would disappear and then come back with more hair.
- 3:21Speaker 2: I'll send Dollie for his Christmas present to Lebron's guy.
- 3:26Speaker 1: That's sort of a hurtful Christmas present, but I like it.
- 3:29Speaker 2: I know we're super close and he'll think it's funny.
- 3:32Speaker 2: And like I said, it takes one to know one.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Like look, if I had a if I had a
- 3:37Speaker 2: full head of hair, I wouldn't I would certainly not
- 3:40Speaker 2: say that, But having dealt with baldness for the past
- 3:44Speaker 2: twenty years, I don't know. I feel like it's okay
- 3:49Speaker 2: to take a little bit of a job right there, Adam.
- 3:53Speaker 2: But I would, actually I would, I would. I would
- 3:55Speaker 2: give him a vacation with the holidays with us. I
- 3:58Speaker 2: would take him on vacation because I him and don't
- 4:01Speaker 2: get to see him enough.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Oh all right, now, how about a gift for Heim Bloom?
- 4:05Speaker 1: Would you like me to start?
- 4:07Speaker 2: Sure? I don't know him as well, so this is
- 4:09Speaker 2: going to be more probably baseballish, Okay.
- 4:13Speaker 1: My gift to him would be finding a willing trade partner,
- 4:18Speaker 1: another president of baseball ops general manager who has had
- 4:23Speaker 1: a little too much of the eggnog and might be
- 4:27Speaker 1: a little tipsy while they're trying to finalize a deal,
- 4:31Speaker 1: so that Heim can get over on the guy and
- 4:35Speaker 1: this guy could play the role of the Mark and
- 4:38Speaker 1: the Cardinals end up with a bonanza in a one
- 4:41Speaker 1: sided trade.
- 4:43Speaker 2: I like that. It's tough to be I would say,
- 4:53Speaker 2: I'll say a couple of free agent signs, like maybe
- 4:57Speaker 2: we talked about on the previous episode, where maybe he
- 5:01Speaker 2: gets a good deal on a guy or two and
- 5:04Speaker 2: then can trade him at the deadline for more prospects. Uh.
- 5:08Speaker 2: So that so, look, my thing is is like I
- 5:12Speaker 2: live in Oklahoma. So the Oklahoma City thunder right, they
- 5:16Speaker 2: were able to accumulate a ton of of high draft
- 5:20Speaker 2: picks and and and you know that might equate in
- 5:23Speaker 2: baseball prospects by trading Russell Westbrook and Paul George and
- 5:27Speaker 2: Kevin Durant and and and James Harden And at the
- 5:32Speaker 2: time people were like, Oh my gosh, I can't believe
- 5:35Speaker 2: we're trading these guys. The Thunder are gonna be irrelevant.
- 5:38Speaker 2: They're never gonna be you know, you can't do that
- 5:40Speaker 2: in that market. They're gonna disappear. Nobody will go to
- 5:44Speaker 2: the games. And the way that they were able to
- 5:47Speaker 2: accumulate draft picks, and then the draft picks they made,
- 5:51Speaker 2: and then they started signing a couple of like free
- 5:54Speaker 2: agents and trades, and now you look up and they
- 5:57Speaker 2: won the championship last year and they are best record
- 6:02Speaker 2: by far this year, and they have more draft picks ahead.
- 6:06Speaker 2: So I'm gonna hope for him that he can parlay
- 6:11Speaker 2: maybe a couple of of free agents on one year
- 6:17Speaker 2: deals into some more prospects and that everybody will say
- 6:21Speaker 2: that they're tearing this whole thing down. And then a
- 6:23Speaker 2: couple of years we'll look up and they'll be like
- 6:26Speaker 2: the Oklahoma City Thunder.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Now you're in the Christmas sphere. And of course the
- 6:31Speaker 1: Thunder have had a great run and it will come
- 6:33Speaker 1: to an end this year at the hands of the
- 6:35Speaker 1: New York Nicks. We're gonna take a break right now
- 6:38Speaker 1: and we'll come back with a special Christmas edition of
- 6:41Speaker 1: Cardinal Territory. Moneart Money. Lance if you don't mind saying
- 6:45Speaker 1: the title sponsor again, Monarch Money, Monarch Money, thank you
- 6:49Speaker 1: all right, Lancelin endorses Monart Money. I'm a mess because

- 7:51Speaker 1: Maybe they can help Matt holiday as well. Matt, I'm
- 7:56Speaker 1: just curious in the holiday household. I know you have
- 7:59Speaker 1: fa family over, I know you're close knit group. What
- 8:04Speaker 1: is the best Christmas gift your family ever gave to you?
- 8:14Speaker 2: Wow? So for me, we we've decided to go light
- 8:18Speaker 2: on the gifts, and then we're taking like a family
- 8:21Speaker 2: vacation every year. So this year we're going to Hawaii,
- 8:26Speaker 2: same place we went last year. So we we've gifted
- 8:30Speaker 2: our kids their big gift and it's a gift to
- 8:33Speaker 2: us going on vacation with your whole family. So we're
- 8:38Speaker 2: going to Hawaii on the twenty sixth for a few
- 8:41Speaker 2: days on a family vacation. And so that's probably like
- 8:48Speaker 2: the big the biggest best gift at this point in
- 8:51Speaker 2: my life is just you know, spending time with my
- 8:54Speaker 2: kids and having them around and playing cards and uh
- 9:00Speaker 2: So I don't I don't need anything, Jim anymore, or
- 9:05Speaker 2: never really did. But you get to a certain age
- 9:07Speaker 2: where you know, if you need something, you usually just
- 9:11Speaker 2: buy it. I guess if. And at this point I'm
- 9:14Speaker 2: not a big don't I don't really need anything big.
- 9:21Speaker 2: So going on a family vacation every year is kind
- 9:25Speaker 2: of our plan for our big Christmas present to each
- 9:27Speaker 2: other moving forward.
- 9:29Speaker 1: That's really nice. And you never were the guy to
- 9:32Speaker 1: be the show off guy, so I know what you have.
- 9:34Speaker 1: You're fine with your family guy. I would say in
- 9:37Speaker 1: the future, like maybe next Christmas, it's a great feeling
- 9:40Speaker 1: to invite another family with you. Maybe someone like me,
- 9:43Speaker 1: my son and my wife because we like Hawaii. Just
- 9:47Speaker 1: something to think about, just some of the thing, just
- 9:49Speaker 1: throwing it out there. Last thing. You're a healthy guy.
- 9:53Speaker 1: You watch what you eat, always have, probably more so
- 9:56Speaker 1: than me. What's the thing on the Christmas table that
- 10:02Speaker 1: you don't care You're just letting it all go. Christmas Day,
- 10:05Speaker 1: Christmas dinner, whatever it is. What's the thing that you'll
- 10:08Speaker 1: go ahead and uh maybe more than you should have
- 10:12Speaker 1: one dish?
- 10:13Speaker 2: Uh probably that would probably be sweets. Probably, Like my
- 10:19Speaker 2: mom makes this stuff called almond rocca. I don't know
- 10:21Speaker 2: if you've heard of it, but it's like I have
- 10:24Speaker 2: almond stuff with chocolate on top of it that if
- 10:29Speaker 2: I have a little bit of that, I will eat
- 10:31Speaker 2: way too much of that. But I I don't my
- 10:37Speaker 2: dad's my dad makes like we do Christmas Eve, we
- 10:41Speaker 2: do Italian because my dad, my dad's half Italian. So
- 10:44Speaker 2: Christmas Eve he makes like chicken palm and eggplant parmesan,
- 10:49Speaker 2: and he tries to make it gluten free for me,
- 10:51Speaker 2: like he'll make a but that doesn't mean it's like
- 10:55Speaker 2: super super healthy, but I will.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Can parm It doesn't have to be gluten free. It's Christmas.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Don't ruin chicken parm Jim.
- 11:06Speaker 2: It makes my stomach hurt. I have a bad gluten allergy. Okay,
- 11:10Speaker 2: you want my stomach to hurt all night?
- 11:12Speaker 1: I mean no, I don't, sir, I don't. Okay, that
- 11:14Speaker 1: was my fault. That was insensitive.
- 11:16Speaker 2: And actually actually they do. He can make it really
- 11:19Speaker 2: good gluten free. It's actually just it's you can barely tell.
- 11:24Speaker 2: So I would say probably the Italian meal before Christmas
- 11:29Speaker 2: is the one that I probably eat too much of
- 11:33Speaker 2: that's not overly healthy.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Well, Matt, Merry Christmas to you your family. Uh, I've
- 11:41Speaker 1: known you a long time and I know you're the
- 11:43Speaker 1: real deal. I appreciate the little Christmas chat. And to
- 11:46Speaker 1: all our viewers out there, Supposedly they want to throw
- 11:49Speaker 1: five stars on our podcast and like and subscribe. Put
- 11:54Speaker 1: Merry Christmas everyone, and thanks for lunching a special christ
- 11:57Speaker 1: special now you mess me up, special Christmas edition of
- 12:01Speaker 1: a Cardinal Territory. We'll be back with the regular edition.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Of course, we're always hoping that next edition won't suck
