Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, good morning. Yeah, call us maybe if you're a doctor.
- 0:02Speaker 1: 106.7 Light FM. Cubby and Christine in the morning. Producer
- 0:05Speaker 1: Kristen producing. And yeah, we did the news a moment
- 0:08Speaker 1: ago when we addressed the situation. Christine, you feel okay,
- 0:14Speaker 1: but you've lost your voice almost.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Yeah. It feels like it's just out of the blue.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Like it's just gone.
- 0:21Speaker 1: So here's what I want to talk about. So you
- 0:23Speaker 1: were sick Monday and Tuesday. You came back Wednesday. Your
- 0:26Speaker 1: voice was fine.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Now, is it possible... You're thinking maybe after your massage
- 0:31Speaker 1: that you got yesterday. Yeah. That that could have triggered
- 0:34Speaker 1: your voice because you were fine before your massage.
- 0:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:36Speaker 4: Explain.
- 0:36Speaker 1: I'm trying to talk as much as I can because
- 0:38Speaker 1: I don't want you to talk a lot.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I don't understand what happened because I went in. I
- 0:44Speaker 2: get these like healing therapeutic massages. They help me a lot.
- 0:49Speaker 2: And I went in for the massage talking normally. And
- 0:52Speaker 2: as soon as we were done, I sounded like this.
- 0:55Speaker 5: I don't.
- 0:56Speaker 2: So I have no idea.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Maybe the massage was that good.
- 1:00Speaker 6: You're like, oh. I know, I know.
- 1:01Speaker 1: But is that possible? Maybe it like released something in
- 1:05Speaker 1: your body?
- 1:06Speaker 2: I'm wondering, yeah.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Or is this a part of your cold you had
- 1:09Speaker 1: earlier this week that would have happened anyway, this whole
- 1:12Speaker 1: voice part? But that's the question we have if you
- 1:15Speaker 1: happen to be somebody in the doctor or medical field.
- 1:17Speaker 2: I think it, I mean, my theory is like it
- 1:20Speaker 2: may have pushed something like we're trying to clear, you know,
- 1:24Speaker 2: like because I had been sick with the virus.
- 1:26Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:26Speaker 2: And maybe we. push something somewhere.
- 1:28Speaker 1: I have no idea. Well, every time I've gotten a massage,
- 1:30Speaker 1: the masseuse always says, and you've heard it a million times,
- 1:32Speaker 1: drink lots of water because you've released toxins in your
- 1:35Speaker 1: system and you want to just kind of flush everything out.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Maybe something got flushed in your system.
- 1:40Speaker 2: But it went to my vocal cords.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Is that possible? That's the question.
- 1:43Speaker 2: This is crazy. I'm so sorry.
- 1:45Speaker 1: 1-800-222-1067. The one thing you need to do is not
- 1:48Speaker 1: say sorry because we are doing the best we can
- 1:51Speaker 1: because we have no backup for you today. And producer Kristen, again,
- 1:56Speaker 1: I don't want to keep rehashing this, but there's some
- 2:00Speaker 1: issues there with contracts and stuff like that where she
- 2:02Speaker 1: can't speak.
- 2:02Speaker 2: She's so wonderful too, yes.
- 2:03Speaker 1: And she's wonderful.
- 2:04Speaker 2: She'd be perfect. Okay, so tell us about you because
- 2:08Speaker 2: you have a big weekend coming up.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Well, I don't want to sound like I'm complaining, but
- 2:12Speaker 1: I'm dreading the long day I have. So listen to
- 2:15Speaker 1: all the driving I'm doing today. So I drove here,
- 2:18Speaker 1: East Brunswick, New Jersey, to Midtown Manhattan. All right, do
- 2:21Speaker 1: that every day. We'll wrap up the show, you and me,
- 2:23Speaker 1: And then I'll go back to East Brunswick. We'll go
- 2:25Speaker 1: southbound on the turnpike.
- 2:26Speaker 6: Boom.
- 2:27Speaker 1: And then at 1130, I'm picking up our kids, Naomi
- 2:31Speaker 1: and Miles. And then we're driving to Newark. Okay. So
- 2:34Speaker 1: back northbound on the turnpike.
- 2:35Speaker 3: By me.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:37Speaker 1: By you.
- 2:37Speaker 6: Yes.
- 2:38Speaker 1: We're jumping on a quick flight to Dulles because we're
- 2:41Speaker 1: going to Lynchburg, Virginia for my niece's wedding. It's on Saturday.
- 2:45Speaker 1: We thought about driving from East Brunswick to Lynchburg, Virginia,
- 2:48Speaker 1: but that drive would be over eight and a half hours.
- 2:51Speaker 1: So we said, There are no direct flights to Lynchburg.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Can we get halfway there, Bon Jovi? So we said Dulles.
- 2:59Speaker 1: So I'm renting a car in Dulles, and then we're
- 3:01Speaker 1: going to drive the rest. We're spending the weekend in Lynchburg, Virginia.
- 3:04Speaker 1: My niece Ellen is getting married, as I mentioned, and
- 3:06Speaker 1: then we're going to be coming back on Monday. So
- 3:09Speaker 1: Columbus Day, we're all off. I'll be traveling back.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:12Speaker 1: And hopefully you'll have your voice back.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I hope so. Congratulations to your niece.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Thank you, Ellen and Nick.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Aw, how nice.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Somebody's calling. Let's just, you know, live on the edge
- 3:20Speaker 1: here and take a live phone call. Hi, are you
- 3:22Speaker 1: calling to help Christine?
- 3:24Speaker 4: Yes, I am. It's so hard to get through to
- 3:27Speaker 4: your people. Oh, my goodness. I listen every morning.
- 3:30Speaker 1: You mean hard to get through as our brain or,
- 3:32Speaker 1: I mean, on the phone? The radio. Oh, my God.
- 3:35Speaker 4: I dial it a hundred times. It's always a busy signal.
- 3:38Speaker 4: I don't know how to text.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Oh, well, yeah.
- 3:41Speaker 4: I don't want to keep you, so just tell her,
- 3:43Speaker 4: gargle every hour with apple cider vinegar and you get
- 3:47Speaker 4: your voice back. It's kind of nasty, but it works.
- 3:49Speaker 4: Apple cider vinegar.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Yeah, she can hear you. You're talking to her.
- 3:53Speaker 5: Whoa.
- 3:54Speaker 7: Hi.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I know you can't hear me. I can hear you.
- 3:57Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Have you tried that yet? Alexa Lowa.
- 4:01Speaker 2: No, I won't.
- 4:03Speaker 1: She's lowered Alexa.
- 4:04Speaker 2: I can't even get Alexa to work this morning. That's
- 4:06Speaker 2: how bad it is.
- 4:07Speaker 4: That sounds too bad now. My nephew lives in Nutley.
- 4:11Speaker 4: I love your stories about Nutley. But anyway, that being said,
- 4:14Speaker 4: I hope you feel better.
- 4:15Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 4:16Speaker 4: Your apple cider vinegar usually does the trick once an hour.
- 4:20Speaker 6: Okay, thank you.
- 4:21Speaker 2: I'll try. Thank you so much.
- 4:22Speaker 1: What's your name?
- 4:23Speaker 2: Gail.
- 4:24Speaker 4: Thank you, Gail.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Love you. Thank you. I hope I can get through quicker.
- 4:28Speaker 4: I don't know why it's always busy.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Well, you know what? Sometimes people are always trying to
- 4:32Speaker 1: win something, and they think we're about to do a contest,
- 4:34Speaker 1: so the lines get flooded sometimes.
- 4:36Speaker 4: Oh, my God.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Always.
- 4:38Speaker 8: Always.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Well, thank you. I'm glad you got through.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 4:41Speaker 4: Okay. Thank you.
- 4:42Speaker 6: Good luck.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Feel better.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Thank you. Love you, guys.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Love you. Love you. Yeah, your voice is warming up,
- 4:47Speaker 1: I feel.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Okay.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Let's take one more phone call.
- 4:49Speaker 2: It's powerful, huh?
- 4:50Speaker 1: We're here to help Christine. Light FM, you're live on
- 4:52Speaker 1: the air. Are you calling about Christine's situation? Yes, I am.
- 4:57Speaker 4: I have some information for her.
- 5:00Speaker 6: Okay.
- 5:02Speaker 1: All right. Just tell her she needs to take some
- 5:05Speaker 1: honey with her hot tea. Well, yeah, you've done that, right, Christine?
- 5:10Speaker 2: Yes, I'm trying. I'm trying. Yes, definitely. Thank you. Yeah,
- 5:15Speaker 2: thank you.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Okay, well, I hope you feel better.
- 5:18Speaker 3: We really appreciate you and Cubby, so get well soon.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Thank you for putting up with me today.
- 5:24Speaker 6: Thank you. We love you.
- 5:26Speaker 4: Oh, you're wonderful.
- 5:28Speaker 1: We love you too.
- 5:29Speaker 2: Love you.
- 5:30Speaker 6: All right.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Thank you. Hey, the good news is Bernie Williams came
- 5:33Speaker 1: here yesterday. We recorded that interview.
- 5:35Speaker 2: And I could still talk.
- 5:36Speaker 1: And you talked back then.
- 5:37Speaker 8: Yes.
- 5:37Speaker 6: Yeah, fine.
- 5:38Speaker 1: And we'll play that at 8 o'clock this morning.
- 5:40Speaker 6: Hang in there.
- 5:41Speaker 1: It's you, Christine, and all of us together.
- 5:43Speaker 9: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 5:47Speaker 9: Next on Light FM.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Okay.
- 5:50Speaker 8: I need to tell you two things.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Cubby and Christine's.
- 5:54Speaker 6: Two pretty cool things.
- 5:56Speaker 1: This is really cool, Christine. Saying these two words makes
- 5:59Speaker 1: people like you much more. So here's the back story.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Kids are taught, of course, about the magic phrases please
- 6:05Speaker 1: and thank you. Well, research shows it pays to use
- 6:08Speaker 1: them throughout life. Specifically, thank you. A study done at
- 6:12Speaker 1: the University of New South Wales did a whole study
- 6:15Speaker 1: on the phrase thank you. And it proved that these
- 6:19Speaker 1: two words provided a, quote, valuable signal that you are
- 6:22Speaker 1: someone with whom a high-quality relationship could be formed, end quote.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Thank you goes a long, long way.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Thank you, Cubby.
- 6:32Speaker 1: You're welcome, Christine. And for those that just tuned in,
- 6:36Speaker 1: Christine is dealing with a voice on a scale of
- 6:39Speaker 1: 1 to 10. You're at a 2. But you're plugging
- 6:43Speaker 1: through here.
- 6:43Speaker 6: I'm trying.
- 6:44Speaker 4: I'm trying.
- 6:44Speaker 1: And you have a cool thing. I hope it's short.
- 6:46Speaker 2: I do. Well, Serena Williams has her own Barbie doll.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Serena Williams has her own Barbie doll.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Yes, based on her 2005 Australian Open win. So it
- 6:56Speaker 2: was a very iconic event. outfit she was wearing and
- 6:59Speaker 2: silver earrings. And the Barbie looks beautiful. It looks like her.
- 7:02Speaker 1: All right. See, that was short and sweet. The voice
- 7:05Speaker 1: is getting better. You're warming up. You're warming up. You know,
- 7:08Speaker 1: you remind me of, I mean, look.
- 7:10Speaker 5: When it's time to change, then it's time to change.
- 7:14Speaker 1: When Peter Brady's voice was going, they went on with
- 7:16Speaker 1: the song, Christine. When it's time to change, you've got
- 7:22Speaker 1: to rearrange.
- 7:31Speaker 9: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 7:34Speaker 9: Next on Light FM.
- 7:36Speaker 1: We have a question for you. It's a controversy. It's
- 7:38Speaker 1: 106.7 Light FM with Cubby and Christine in the morning
- 7:41Speaker 1: and producer Kristen. And if you just tuned in, full disclosure, Christine,
- 7:45Speaker 1: not 100% with her voice.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Right.
- 7:46Speaker 2: I'm here, but my voice, not so much.
- 7:49Speaker 1: We're going to get through it together. So here's the deal.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Producer Kristen sent me this TikTok video. There's a viral
- 7:55Speaker 1: video of a Los Angeles Dodgers fan refusing to give
- 7:59Speaker 1: a foul ball to a young Atlanta Braves fan. It
- 8:02Speaker 1: sparked an online debate. While some fellow fans in the
- 8:05Speaker 1: stands yelled for him to give it to the child,
- 8:08Speaker 1: many commenters online kind of came to his defense saying, no,
- 8:12Speaker 1: he caught a foul ball. You don't catch a foul
- 8:14Speaker 1: ball very often. You keep it. Should he have given
- 8:17Speaker 1: it to the kid? Now, Kristen sent the video to
- 8:20Speaker 1: you and me, Christine.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Yes, yes.
- 8:21Speaker 1: And when I first saw it, you know, the guy
- 8:24Speaker 1: that caught it must be maybe 20.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a young guy, yes.
- 8:26Speaker 1: He's still young.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:29Speaker 1: And when I first saw it, I'm like, ah, you
- 8:30Speaker 1: know what?
- 8:30Speaker 6: Keep it.
- 8:31Speaker 1: But then they panned to the kid.
- 8:33Speaker 4: To the kid.
- 8:34Speaker 1: And the kid is the cutest kid in the world.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I know, and he's so sad.
- 8:37Speaker 1: And he's not, yeah, he's not crying, but you could
- 8:38Speaker 1: tell he's very disappointed.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Right.
- 8:41Speaker 1: So here's, I don't know if the audio will do
- 8:42Speaker 1: it justice, but here's the audio of the whole thing.
- 8:44Speaker 1: This is after the Dodgers fan caught the ball and
- 8:47Speaker 1: the crowd is screaming, you know, give it to the kid. Anyway,
- 9:05Speaker 1: so he says, I'm sorry, I feel bad. I'm not
- 9:07Speaker 1: giving it to the kid. And he never gave it
- 9:08Speaker 1: to the kid.
- 9:09Speaker 2: He didn't look nasty about it.
- 9:12Speaker 4: No.
- 9:12Speaker 2: He just looked genuinely excited that he caught the ball.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Right.
- 9:16Speaker 2: And I don't think he blocked it. the kid in
- 9:18Speaker 2: order to get it.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Like we didn't see, we didn't see that part. We
- 9:21Speaker 1: don't know if there was a fight for the ball
- 9:23Speaker 1: or anything, but I don't think there was.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Because I think that the little one is so little.
- 9:27Speaker 2: I don't think he could, he could have even tried.
- 9:30Speaker 1: So whose side are you on?
- 9:30Speaker 2: So I kind of feel for the guy who caught
- 9:32Speaker 2: the ball.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Because I've been to many baseball games. I've never
- 9:35Speaker 1: been close to a foul ball.
- 9:36Speaker 6: Right.
- 9:37Speaker 1: But here's what I think should happen. This is my
- 9:39Speaker 1: personal opinion. I think the, this happened in Atlanta, I believe.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I think it happened in Atlanta or did it happen
- 9:46Speaker 1: in L.A.? It's a Los Angeles Dodgers fan refusing to
- 9:51Speaker 1: give up. Oh, Kristen, tell me, where did this happen again?
- 9:54Speaker 1: Can you just tell me where it happened? Atlanta. Atlanta,
- 9:56Speaker 1: thank you. It happened in Atlanta. So I think, here's
- 9:58Speaker 1: my thought. The Atlanta Braves should sign a baseball and
- 10:03Speaker 1: find this kid and give the kid a sign. Do
- 10:06Speaker 1: a step above catching a foul ball. Get a signed
- 10:09Speaker 1: ball and find the kid and give that to the kid.
- 10:10Speaker 2: That way all the fans, you're trying to keep all
- 10:12Speaker 2: the fans happy.
- 10:14Speaker 3: Right.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Because like I said, that guy didn't seem nasty about it.
- 10:17Speaker 2: He just seemed so enthusiastic that he caught the ball.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Right.
- 10:20Speaker 2: So I kind of don't want to take it from them.
- 10:22Speaker 1: And, you know, the fact that the game is in
- 10:23Speaker 1: Atlanta and this is a Dodger fan, so people are
- 10:26Speaker 1: going to come down harder on a Dodger fan in Atlanta.
- 10:29Speaker 1: So maybe that's my take on it. Your take, you
- 10:32Speaker 1: can hit us up at 44363. I think the Braves
- 10:34Speaker 1: should step in and say, here, kid, we'll do better
- 10:36Speaker 1: than just a foul ball. We'll get you a signed
- 10:38Speaker 1: team ball. We're coming right back. Give us your reaction.
- 10:41Speaker 9: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 10:45Speaker 9: Next on Light FM.
- 10:47Speaker 1: 7.07 at Light FM with Cubby and Christine in the morning.
- 10:49Speaker 1: A very happy Friday to you. So if you want
- 10:51Speaker 1: to see Harry Styles during his residency at the Garden,
- 10:55Speaker 1: it's very simple. You listen to Light FM on that
- 10:57Speaker 1: free iHeartRadio app. You'll see a red microphone right there.
- 11:01Speaker 1: you can send us a message and tell us why
- 11:04Speaker 1: you need to see Harry Styles. We've been doing it
- 11:06Speaker 1: for a couple of weeks. Well, last week we gave
- 11:09Speaker 1: out some tickets, and this week we're doing it again.
- 11:11Speaker 1: We will listen to a message right now from our
- 11:14Speaker 1: Talk Back feature, and then we'll try to get that
- 11:16Speaker 1: person on the phone.
- 11:17Speaker 4: Hi.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Mine is Natalia, and me and my mom listen to
- 11:21Speaker 3: your radio every day, and we really enjoy it, and
- 11:23Speaker 3: it makes us laugh a lot and have a good morning.
- 11:26Speaker 3: I heard you're giving out free tickets to Harry Styles,
- 11:30Speaker 3: and I want to see if I can win it
- 11:31Speaker 3: for my older sister Valerie because she's been going through
- 11:34Speaker 3: a really hard time lately. She's a teacher, and she
- 11:37Speaker 3: has a lot to handle, and giving her these tickets
- 11:40Speaker 3: would be the best thing ever. Thank you.
- 11:43Speaker 1: That was the talkback we received. Now let's try to
- 11:46Speaker 1: get this person on the phone and tell her the
- 11:48Speaker 1: good news.
- 11:51Speaker 5: Hello?
- 11:51Speaker 1: Oh, hi there.
- 11:53Speaker 6: Who's this?
- 11:54Speaker 5: Arlene, how are you?
- 11:56Speaker 1: Good morning. Sorry to wake you so early.
- 11:58Speaker 5: No, no, I was up. I was getting ready to
- 12:00Speaker 5: go to work.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Okay. Are you aware of Natalia? Is that your daughter?
- 12:05Speaker 5: Yeah, that's my daughter, yes.
- 12:08Speaker 1: She left us a talkback message that we just played.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:12Speaker 1: And she was very, very sweet, how much she loves
- 12:14Speaker 1: the radio station, you and the whole family. And her
- 12:18Speaker 1: older sister has been going through a hard time lately.
- 12:21Speaker 1: What does Valerie do, her older sister?
- 12:24Speaker 5: So she's an assistant to a school, like an after-school
- 12:28Speaker 5: program here in New York. And yeah, she's been going
- 12:31Speaker 5: through some difficult times in her mental state. Yeah, but
- 12:36Speaker 5: she's Hanging in there.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Good.
- 12:39Speaker 8: We want to give her something to look forward to.
- 12:41Speaker 8: And she just sounded like such a wonderful person, your
- 12:44Speaker 8: entire family.
- 12:45Speaker 2: So we have tickets to see Harry Styles at Madison
- 12:49Speaker 2: Square Garden. Oh, my God.
- 12:51Speaker 5: She's going to be so happy.
- 12:52Speaker 3: Oh.
- 12:54Speaker 5: Oh, my God, thank you so much.
- 12:56Speaker 1: That's amazing, isn't it? All because of a simple talkback
- 12:59Speaker 1: from Natalia.
- 13:00Speaker 5: Yeah, Natalia, she's her sister. Yeah, she's already on her
- 13:04Speaker 5: way to school.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Oh, yes, she's going to be so happy. She did
- 13:07Speaker 2: a great job with her talkback.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Yes.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
- 13:11Speaker 7: Thank you so much.
- 13:12Speaker 5: I'm like, so like in shock right now.
- 13:14Speaker 8: Do you think, do you think that Valerie will be
- 13:16Speaker 8: ready to go tonight to go to Madison Square Garden?
- 13:19Speaker 5: Yes. She's going to be excited once I let her know.
- 13:21Speaker 5: Cause she's, she's not home either. She already left to work.
- 13:24Speaker 5: So I'm just the only one that's here at this moment.
- 13:27Speaker 8: Well, I'm glad you could take the call because we
- 13:29Speaker 8: wanted to get this information to you.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Yeah. And thank you so much.
- 13:33Speaker 2: Thank you.

- 16:47Speaker 4: Yeah, number one.
- 16:53Speaker 9: More Cubby and Christine. And the great music variety you expect.
- 16:57Speaker 9: Next on Light FM.
- 16:58Speaker 1: 106.7 Light FM. Cubby and Christine in the morning. A
- 17:02Speaker 1: very happy Friday. And he's in studio like we said
- 17:05Speaker 1: he would be. Legendary Yankee, Bernie Williams is back in
- 17:09Speaker 1: the house.
- 17:10Speaker 6: Hey, good morning. Thank you. Thank you so much.
- 17:12Speaker 1: A couple years ago you were here, right?
- 17:13Speaker 6: Yes, yes, I was here. Yeah, I had a great experience.
- 17:15Speaker 6: You guys were great. And I'm so glad. I'm very
- 17:18Speaker 6: happy to see you guys again.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Yeah, we're happy to see you too.
- 17:21Speaker 1: So we have a lot to talk about. And before
- 17:24Speaker 1: we get to what you're really here for, we can't
- 17:26Speaker 1: not bring this up. So the Yankees season came to
- 17:31Speaker 1: an end a couple of nights ago. Give us your thoughts, please,
- 17:34Speaker 1: Bernie Williams.
- 17:35Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, from a player standpoint, obviously very disappointed.
- 17:39Speaker 7: I know we cannot be more disappointed than the players themselves.
- 17:44Speaker 7: They worked so hard during the course of the season,
- 17:46Speaker 7: you know, to get to that moment and then just
- 17:48Speaker 7: to be swept by, you know, the Tampa Bay Rays.
- 17:55Speaker 7: We got to give them credit. They have played great
- 17:58Speaker 7: through the whole year. I wish we had all our
- 18:01Speaker 7: cylinders working with judging and all our full force. But
- 18:08Speaker 7: these games have to be win or loss. And I
- 18:10Speaker 7: think it's going to give them a lot of ammunition
- 18:14Speaker 7: to work with for next year. I think there's going
- 18:16Speaker 7: to be a lot of changes. There has to be
- 18:17Speaker 7: a lot of changes.
- 18:18Speaker 6: Uh, happening.
- 18:19Speaker 7: Uh, but, uh, you know, Yankees are the Yankees. They'll
- 18:21Speaker 7: find a way to, you know, get back to, you know,
- 18:23Speaker 7: where they, they should be in my estimation. And, uh, yeah,
- 18:27Speaker 7: I mean, it was disappointed, but, uh, still, you know, baseball, uh, and, uh,
- 18:31Speaker 7: there's a lot more baseball to play and, uh, but
- 18:33Speaker 7: I'm really disappointed that the Yankees didn't make it any further.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Do you still feel like you play when they lose? Like,
- 18:37Speaker 1: do you still feel like.
- 18:38Speaker 6: Like as a player?
- 18:39Speaker 7: My heart starts racing, you know, butterflies, you know, yeah, yeah.
- 18:42Speaker 7: Once you start, even when, uh, Fall started, you know,
- 18:45Speaker 7: the temperature started getting a little colder. I started feeling like, oh, man,
- 18:51Speaker 7: I don't fit on it anymore. But, yeah, you always
- 18:56Speaker 7: want to play. Your mind is always getting you there,
- 18:59Speaker 7: especially at this time of the year. I feel very
- 19:02Speaker 7: fortunate to be part of those teams that won because
- 19:04Speaker 7: it's so hard to do. So, yeah, it is a process,
- 19:08Speaker 7: and I think they're going to be ready next year.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Well, thank you for your take. We had to address that.
- 19:11Speaker 8: I did want to ask your advice for the fans because–
- 19:14Speaker 8: You know, the way you said you were feeling it
- 19:15Speaker 8: in your heart. We have so many Yankee fans, especially
- 19:18Speaker 8: in my family, and they take it really hard.
- 19:20Speaker 6: Absolutely.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:22Speaker 6: I feel for them. You know, I'm one of them.
- 19:24Speaker 7: So what do we do?
- 19:26Speaker 8: You say just look forward to next year?
- 19:27Speaker 7: Well, yeah, it is one of those things. I mean,
- 19:31Speaker 7: baseball is a great game, great sport. And I think,
- 19:34Speaker 7: you know, it's good that we have this, you know,
- 19:37Speaker 7: thing that we can look forward to next year.
- 19:39Speaker 6: You know, what that's going to bring. I know it's
- 19:41Speaker 6: hard now to take.
- 19:42Speaker 7: Because we've put so much interest and so many resources
- 19:45Speaker 7: into and invested so much you know, emotionally in this.
- 19:49Speaker 7: But there's always next year, you know, ask the Cubs.
- 19:52Speaker 6: Yeah, that's true, that's true.
- 19:54Speaker 7: And, you know, at some point the Red Sox would
- 19:57Speaker 7: ask that, you know, many years ago. But it's a
- 20:00Speaker 7: great game, and I think, you know, it keeps the
- 20:02Speaker 7: fan base, you know, kind of motivated to see what's
- 20:05Speaker 7: going to happen next year. I think the true Yankee
- 20:06Speaker 7: fans are never going to leave the team.
- 20:08Speaker 4: No.
- 20:09Speaker 7: But there's a lot of people, myself included, that are very,
- 20:12Speaker 7: very disappointed this morning.
- 20:14Speaker 2: Are you okay with it?
- 20:15Speaker 8: We just wanted to ask you, you know how there's
- 20:16Speaker 8: always a celebration, you know, when the Yanks beat the
- 20:19Speaker 8: Red Sox.
- 20:20Speaker 2: They celebrate with champagne.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Well, every playoff round, there's champagne.
- 20:24Speaker 6: Yes.
- 20:25Speaker 2: Is that the whammy, or is that okay?
- 20:28Speaker 1: Should you celebrate after every playoff round?
- 20:31Speaker 6: I think so.
- 20:33Speaker 7: No, no, I think every step of the way you
- 20:35Speaker 7: should celebrate because you never know if you're going to
- 20:37Speaker 7: make it to the next one. So I think, you know,
- 20:39Speaker 7: for players, they start putting a lot of, you know,
- 20:43Speaker 7: emotional investment. Their body is going through, you know, ringer
- 20:47Speaker 7: from spring training and even before in the offseason. So
- 20:50Speaker 7: every level that you get, you get, you know, this
- 20:53Speaker 7: sort of thing. OK, we accomplished this and it should
- 20:55Speaker 7: be celebrated. Not too much because the ultimate goal is
- 20:58Speaker 7: the ultimate goal to go into the World Series. But
- 21:01Speaker 7: I think it should be celery because you never know
- 21:03Speaker 7: if you're going to get to the next level or not.
- 21:05Speaker 6: Was it real.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Champagne for you or the non-alcoholic? Because I know they
- 21:07Speaker 1: have both.
- 21:07Speaker 6: Do you remember? Yeah, well, that should give you a
- 21:12Speaker 6: clue into my response. No, I don't remember.
- 21:15Speaker 1: So it was real champagne.
- 21:17Speaker 6: It must have been a real thing, yeah. All right.
- 21:19Speaker 8: Well, are you going to be popping champagne on Broadway?
- 21:21Speaker 8: You're making your Broadway debut in Buena Vista Social Club.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Congratulations.
- 21:26Speaker 6: I am so excited. You know, it's in so many levels.
- 21:31Speaker 7: I grew up listening to the music that has been
- 21:33Speaker 7: played at the show for so many years. It just
- 21:36Speaker 7: brings me back to when I was a kid and
- 21:38Speaker 7: my mom used to put the radio on on Sunday
- 21:40Speaker 7: afternoons and we played like dominoes and we had a
- 21:43Speaker 7: glass of wine. Well, I couldn't because I was a child,
- 21:46Speaker 7: but I remember them having a nice glass of wine
- 21:51Speaker 7: and listening to that music.
- 21:52Speaker 6: And when I.
- 21:53Speaker 7: First saw the show, I started getting choked up. And
- 21:59Speaker 7: the only thing that in my mind was, you know,
- 22:01Speaker 7: I wish my parents were here to see this because
- 22:03Speaker 7: they would have a great time. So I am really
- 22:06Speaker 7: invested in this, you know, in their honor. There were
- 22:09Speaker 7: the ones that put me into baseball and music. And
- 22:13Speaker 7: I would have loved for them to see this moment.
- 22:16Speaker 7: But I'm sure that they're looking down and saying, hey,
- 22:19Speaker 7: I told you. I told you he was going to
- 22:21Speaker 7: make it. So I'm really excited about it. The opportunity
- 22:24Speaker 7: came to me. Out of nowhere, Luis Miranda, obviously, Lee
- 22:28Speaker 7: Manuel's dad, we have this great commonality. We grew up
- 22:32Speaker 7: in the same town in Puerto Rico. And I think, obviously,
- 22:37Speaker 7: he is the most famous Vega Alta resident that has
- 22:43Speaker 7: sort of made it. But he gave me a call
- 22:46Speaker 7: maybe about a few months ago. And he said to me, hey, Bernie,
- 22:52Speaker 7: we are, you know, producing this show that has been
- 22:55Speaker 7: very successful, the Buena Vista Social Club. And I think,
- 22:58Speaker 7: you know, they're thinking about you as being part of it.
- 23:01Speaker 7: Would you be, you know, would you be interested in it?
- 23:03Speaker 7: And it's like, whoa, man, this is amazing. Do not
- 23:06Speaker 7: threaten me with a good time.
- 23:07Speaker 6: Are you kidding me? This is a great opportunity. It
- 23:10Speaker 6: was a quick yes. It was, yeah, the short answer
- 23:12Speaker 6: is it was a quick yes.
- 23:13Speaker 7: And it's just been, you know, so delightful to meet,
- 23:17Speaker 7: you know, the cast and the, You know, the musicians and,
- 23:20Speaker 7: you know, the crew has been such an amazing experience.
- 23:23Speaker 1: You know, you've had two, actually you've had so many
- 23:26Speaker 1: different careers when you think about it. You've been under
- 23:28Speaker 1: pressure with baseball, now music. Which one has probably taught
- 23:31Speaker 1: you more about dealing with nerves?
- 23:33Speaker 6: I think probably baseball. And this is why.
- 23:38Speaker 7: I mean, in music, you practice, you put a lot
- 23:41Speaker 7: of work in. and you do the things that you
- 23:45Speaker 7: need to do to prepare, and you pretty much get
- 23:48Speaker 7: out what you put in. Baseball, on the other hand,
- 23:51Speaker 7: imagine all these players practicing and working out so hard,
- 23:57Speaker 7: and when you step on the plate and you go
- 23:59Speaker 7: into the game, you never know the outcome.
- 24:02Speaker 6: You never know what's going to happen.
- 24:04Speaker 7: So that is that uncertainty that is always there in
- 24:06Speaker 7: the back of your mind. It could be great, but
- 24:08Speaker 7: it could be less than great. So that's the part
- 24:11Speaker 7: that really gives you the pressure because as much as
- 24:14Speaker 7: you can prepare, you can never prepare to what's going
- 24:17Speaker 7: to happen. So you really wish that is the best outcome,
- 24:21Speaker 7: but you never know. So I think that puts a
- 24:23Speaker 7: lot of extra pressure on the players.
- 24:24Speaker 1: It's a good answer.
- 24:25Speaker 8: And also with theater, it's the same in the sense
- 24:28Speaker 8: that it's community. It's happening right there in that moment.
- 24:32Speaker 8: I think you're bonding with the other musicians.
- 24:34Speaker 5: The audience.
- 24:35Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:36Speaker 7: I mean, I would imagine that it would be a
- 24:37Speaker 7: little bit more pressure, but still. It's a situation where
- 24:43Speaker 7: you have to kind of rely on your preparation in
- 24:48Speaker 7: both disciplines and to let it go and see what happens.
- 24:52Speaker 7: But I think the outcome is a little bit more
- 24:54Speaker 7: predictable in theater or maybe music. I mean, I don't
- 24:58Speaker 7: have the experience of doing theater yet, but I would
- 25:01Speaker 7: presume that it's a little bit more controlled. than not
- 25:05Speaker 7: even know what's going to happen. You know, you step
- 25:07Speaker 7: out on that plate, you know, somebody throwing 99, 100
- 25:09Speaker 7: miles an hour, you can hit, you know, the ball,
- 25:12Speaker 7: you can strike out, you know, but at the end
- 25:14Speaker 7: of the day, you know, it's about preparation and just
- 25:16Speaker 7: trusting that and hoping for the best outcome.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Bernie, if you could put together your dream Yankees band
- 25:23Speaker 1: using your former teammates. Who gets the drums, guitars, and vocals?
- 25:28Speaker 6: Well, I will definitely be playing the guitar.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Okay, I figured that. You're an automatic.
- 25:32Speaker 6: I'll probably get Paul O'Neill to play drums. All right.
- 25:35Speaker 7: And the rest is going to be just a slew
- 25:37Speaker 7: of tambourines and bongos and percussion.
- 25:40Speaker 6: Instruments because I don't think anybody could have played anything else.
- 25:43Speaker 6: Good luck, guys. Like a kid would have. Yeah, maybe, yeah.
- 25:46Speaker 6: Blues Clues, something like that. I don't know.
- 25:49Speaker 8: I love it i love it but you're coming into
- 25:51Speaker 8: the show um you're going to be in october 22nd
- 25:54Speaker 8: through the 29th of november yes um of november exactly
- 25:59Speaker 8: so we have over a month to see you which
- 26:01Speaker 8: is wonderful yes and then that overlaps a little bit
- 26:04Speaker 8: right with uh a player from.
- 26:06Speaker 7: The mets yes yes which i have not have the
- 26:10Speaker 7: opportunity to meet yet okay i am so much looking
- 26:14Speaker 7: forward to that uh He's doing great. I mean, I've
- 26:16Speaker 7: heard from the grapevine that he is working so hard
- 26:19Speaker 7: on his lines every day. And he's doing amazing. He's
- 26:22Speaker 7: having a great experience. So I'll definitely be picking his
- 26:25Speaker 7: brain on this.
- 26:26Speaker 8: Yeah, it's just as amazing to me because we were
- 26:29Speaker 8: talking about this before you came in. It's like you excel, obviously,
- 26:34Speaker 8: with baseball. And so we go, oh, maybe you're good
- 26:37Speaker 8: at basketball or football. No, you're an incredible guitar player.
- 26:41Speaker 8: Like these are two incredible gifts that you have in life.
- 26:44Speaker 8: that you're sharing with us, which.
- 26:46Speaker 6: We so enjoy. I just feel blessed.
- 26:48Speaker 7: I had an opportunity to, I guess the good Lord
- 26:53Speaker 7: got me into a family that were very, very adamant
- 26:57Speaker 7: about raising us the right way. My mom was an educator.
- 27:00Speaker 7: I don't know if I mentioned that before. And my
- 27:03Speaker 7: dad was a merchant marine. So they had a great
- 27:04Speaker 7: combination of wildness and strictness to put us in the
- 27:09Speaker 7: right path. And they were the ones that really encouraged
- 27:11Speaker 7: me to be good. Whatever I did, whether it was baseball,
- 27:16Speaker 7: whether it was music, you know, academics. I mean, it
- 27:19Speaker 7: was a I have to give them a lot of
- 27:22Speaker 7: credit for where I am and who I am today.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Well, Bernie, we are so excited to see you soon.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Buena Vista Social Club on Broadway. Again, tell everybody the
- 27:30Speaker 1: dates you're going to be a part of this.
- 27:31Speaker 6: Yes. October 22nd through November 29th.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Okay.
- 27:35Speaker 6: Come and see me. Check it out.
- 27:36Speaker 3: All right.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Got nothing else to do. Baseball season's over.
- 27:39Speaker 6: That's right. This is a great show.
- 27:42Speaker 1: Yes.
- 27:43Speaker 8: It's going to be wonderful to see you in it.
- 27:45Speaker 8: Thank you so much for coming by.
- 27:46Speaker 7: Thank you so much for having me. It's a great
- 27:48Speaker 7: honor to be here, and great to see you guys.
- 27:50Speaker 8: You too.
- 27:51Speaker 6: Bernie Williams!
- 27:52Speaker 2: Yay!
