Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: This podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:12Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer new Arth, and
- 0:15Speaker 2: today we're joined by Steve Giannis, cal Randall, Brody and Seth.
- 0:20Speaker 2: This is episode two of the twenty twenty four Meat
- 0:24Speaker 2: Eater Trivia Championship. This championship will span three episodes. Whoever
- 0:28Speaker 2: has the most points after thirty questions will be declared
- 0:31Speaker 2: the twenty twenty four Meat Eater Trivia Champion. So if
- 0:34Speaker 2: you're behind on the show, pause this one and go
- 0:37Speaker 2: back and listen to last week's episode. All right, everybody's
- 0:41Speaker 2: caught up now the entire episode. The entire championship is
- 0:45Speaker 2: sponsored by Athletic Brewing, who will be matching Meat Eater's
- 0:49Speaker 2: donation and sponsoring three moneyball questions. The winner will get
- 0:52Speaker 2: to choose where the three thousand dollars donation goes, the
- 0:56Speaker 2: biggest dollar in Meat Eater Trivia history, and combining the
- 1:00Speaker 2: moneyball questions, this year's championship has a donation potential of
- 1:04Speaker 2: four thousand, two hundred dollars. I feel like it kind
- 1:12Speaker 2: of looked from this episode two is a tough start.
- 1:16Speaker 3: We've had.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Brody bump the camera and Phil has had to readjust
- 1:19Speaker 2: it now. There are no stats, I, FAQs or housekeeping
- 1:23Speaker 2: this week, but we will get a scoreboard update from
- 1:25Speaker 2: Phil the engineer. Phil, what does the leader board look
- 1:28Speaker 2: like after round one of the championship.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Let's pull it up here.
- 1:31Speaker 5: We are Seth Morris has five points, Giannis Putellis has six,
- 1:37Speaker 5: Ryan Callahan and Stephen Ronella have seven points apiece. Brodie
- 1:40Speaker 5: Henderson has eight, and Randall Williams is in first place
- 1:43Speaker 5: with nine points.
- 1:44Speaker 2: We had some long faces after round one, but I
- 1:47Speaker 2: remind everyone that this game could change very quickly. Last
- 1:50Speaker 2: year Randall only got four right in round one, but
- 1:53Speaker 2: got nine in round two to give Stephen Brody a scare. Also,
- 1:58Speaker 2: last year, Brody went into Game two with a one
- 2:00Speaker 2: point lead on Steve, just for Steve to end up
- 2:03Speaker 2: winning by one. So everyone still has a chance.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Remember that, Oh yeah, I forgot.
- 2:10Speaker 6: I remember getting those nine points and thinking we shouldn't
- 2:13Speaker 6: have done this whole cumulative thing.
- 2:15Speaker 2: It'd have been amazing if you would have gotten a
- 2:17Speaker 2: perfect game and still lost.
- 2:19Speaker 6: Yeah, that would have been amazing.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Be fun, all right, Besides getting to make the biggest
- 2:23Speaker 2: donation and media to trivia history. The winner will get
- 2:26Speaker 2: their name on our twenty on our Meat Eater Trivia
- 2:29Speaker 2: Champion plaque that hangs in the studio. Brody has the
- 2:32Speaker 2: twenty twenty two winner plaque. Steve has the twenty twenty
- 2:35Speaker 2: three winner plaque. Like so long ago, they're the only
- 2:38Speaker 2: names on the trophy, which was made by our late
- 2:40Speaker 2: friend Ed Newman's. This is what you boys are competing for,
- 2:44Speaker 2: and since we want more traffic to see this, we
- 2:45Speaker 2: got to think of a better place to hang this.
- 2:47Speaker 4: You could call it Newman's own plaque.
- 2:50Speaker 6: Do you get to choose the totem that goes by
- 2:53Speaker 6: your name?
- 2:53Speaker 2: Well, that was all created prior to Randall joining the company,
- 2:57Speaker 2: and everyone had a little avatar signed to them, So
- 3:01Speaker 2: what would yours be? Randall? This isn't bad luck or anything.
- 3:04Speaker 2: A catfish A catfish?
- 3:06Speaker 6: Okay, very there a reason for that just sort of
- 3:10Speaker 6: matches my general esthetic.
- 3:11Speaker 3: I think.
- 3:14Speaker 2: The Shelby in Expert today is a four, so our
- 3:17Speaker 2: winner should get eight correct answers. With that, we've made
- 3:21Speaker 2: it through the intro to Steve stayed true to declared
- 3:24Speaker 2: he's going to be quiet this episode. You could write
- 3:27Speaker 2: stuff to communicate he's just going to open his athletic
- 3:31Speaker 2: brewing beers loudly, slurp loudly, right loudly, but he won't talk.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Would you be a pre or post spawn catfish? Randall?
- 3:40Speaker 6: I hadn't really given it much thought.
- 3:41Speaker 2: He'd be a pre spawn one who's got a lumpy
- 3:43Speaker 2: head on him. There's a channel cat they'll get a
- 3:46Speaker 2: really lumpy head right when they're like in that last
- 3:48Speaker 2: week of spawning, and it confuses a lot of people
- 3:51Speaker 2: thinking they caught a blue catfish because it alters their
- 3:53Speaker 2: appearance so much. That can be you, Randall, pre spawn,
- 3:56Speaker 2: lumpy headed channel catfish.
- 3:58Speaker 4: That's great. Yeah, job Spencer, big kind of redeemed yourself
- 4:01Speaker 4: from last ye colored.
- 4:03Speaker 2: And with that, we're under Round two of the Championship.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Play the drop bill. Look, I need to know what
- 4:13Speaker 2: I stand to win everything?
- 4:16Speaker 3: How's that you just tend to win everything?
- 4:25Speaker 2: Gamon Suckers Round two Question two? Excuse me? Question one
- 4:31Speaker 2: of round two? This question eleven. The topic is hunting
- 4:36Speaker 2: and this will be multiple choice. This first great question
- 4:39Speaker 2: is via Joe Singwald. What state is the pop and
- 4:43Speaker 2: Young headquarters? Is it Indiana, Texas, Minnesota or Tennessee? What
- 4:55Speaker 2: state is the pop and Young Headquarters? Indiana, tech Sis, Minnesota, Tennessee.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Nobody looks real confident in their answer, Seth, do you
- 5:09Speaker 2: know this one? Or are you just guessing?
- 5:11Speaker 4: I just guess?
- 5:12Speaker 2: What state is the pop and Young Headquarters Indiana, Texas,
- 5:15Speaker 2: Minnesota or Tennessee. The room looks stumped. Start now with
- 5:26Speaker 2: a bad energy this round. Maybe we need Steve to
- 5:29Speaker 2: talk a little. You got any words in you, Steve?
- 5:34Speaker 6: No, if this was a multiple choice I wouldn't have
- 5:37Speaker 6: guessed any of these.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Okay, just put that out there. Well, that's what I often.
- 5:41Speaker 2: I often reserved the first question, the multiple choice question,
- 5:43Speaker 2: for one that you wouldn't have a shot at for
- 5:46Speaker 2: filling in the blank. So what state is the Pope
- 5:49Speaker 2: and Young Headquarters? Indiana, Texas, Minnesota, Tennessee? Is everybody ready?
- 5:54Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have set and
- 5:58Speaker 2: Yannis saying Indiana. Randall says Texas, cal says Indiana, Steve
- 6:04Speaker 2: says Indiana, Brody says Indiana.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Nobody got it, Tennessee.
- 6:11Speaker 2: The correct answer is Minnesota.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Got I's gonna be so mad.
- 6:16Speaker 6: If it was Indiana.
- 6:17Speaker 2: Pope and Young HQ is in Chatfield which is about
- 6:21Speaker 2: ninety minutes southeast of Minneapolis. The population three thousand. Town
- 6:26Speaker 2: was home to the Pope and Young Museum, but it
- 6:28Speaker 2: was announced in twenty twenty one that it would move
- 6:30Speaker 2: most of its artifacts to the Wonders of Wildlife National
- 6:33Speaker 2: Museum in Springfield, Missouri.
- 6:36Speaker 4: I feel like you're going Missouri, That's what I was thinking.
- 6:40Speaker 6: Don't do they do their banquet there?
- 6:42Speaker 2: They might? Yeah, Missouri was not an option. Like I said,
- 6:45Speaker 2: They've moved most of their museum's artifacts there, but the
- 6:47Speaker 2: headquarters is still in Minnesota. I feel like your strategy
- 6:51Speaker 2: on question one, the multi choice one, has changed over time.
- 6:54Speaker 2: I feel like you're charge people out with an easy one. Mm. Well,
- 6:58Speaker 2: this is the tournament, Brody. We're going to make our
- 7:00Speaker 2: winner earn it. In twenty twenty, I.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Cooked dinner in a coulter wall last night and still
- 7:05Speaker 4: didn't guess Saskatchewan kissed me off so much.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Question to the topic is conservation. The USGS uses this
- 7:16Speaker 2: nine letter word to describe, quote, animals and plants that
- 7:20Speaker 2: are in decline and may be in danger of extinction.
- 7:27Speaker 2: The USGS uses this nine letter word to describe plants
- 7:32Speaker 2: and animals that are in decline and may be in
- 7:35Speaker 2: danger of extinction. See a lot of hangman and erasing
- 7:43Speaker 2: happening for our six competitors. No one seems to have
- 7:48Speaker 2: nailed down the answer quite yet. The USGS uses this
- 7:52Speaker 2: nine letter word to describe animals and plants that are
- 7:55Speaker 2: in decline and may be in danger of extinction. Steve,
- 8:00Speaker 2: do you have this one?
- 8:05Speaker 3: Unclear?
- 8:05Speaker 2: Unclear? Okay? You got a nine letter word though?
- 8:08Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, I don't know if I know the answer.
- 8:13Speaker 4: If I had changed the answer to conform to letters.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Nine letters, that's what happened to me.
- 8:18Speaker 3: If you want to know the truth.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Okay, you we cried it out of This is a
- 8:25Speaker 2: direct quote from the us ES animals and plants that
- 8:29Speaker 2: are in decline and may be in danger of extinction. Seth,
- 8:34Speaker 2: how do you feel all your ants?
- 8:35Speaker 3: Yeah? If you hadn't given that little letter Q deal
- 8:38Speaker 3: after this?
- 8:39Speaker 2: Okay?
- 8:39Speaker 3: Uh, I would have put the wrong answer down, all right.
- 8:43Speaker 4: I threw down an answer and then counted afterwards, and
- 8:47Speaker 4: it worked out.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Okay, probably still smell wrong though.
- 8:50Speaker 3: That's that's where it gets you.
- 8:54Speaker 2: Nine letter word used to describe animals and plants that
- 8:57Speaker 2: are in decline and may be in danger of extinction, Randall,
- 9:03Speaker 2: do you have this one right?
- 9:04Speaker 6: I got a nine letter word?
- 9:05Speaker 2: Okay, Man, may have a good portion of our players
- 9:10Speaker 2: starting zero for two in round two.
- 9:15Speaker 3: That'd be fantastic.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Animals and plants that are in decline and maybe in
- 9:20Speaker 2: danger of extinction. Do you boys give up who don't
- 9:22Speaker 2: have an answer?
- 9:24Speaker 3: No?
- 9:24Speaker 4: I need thirty seconds.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Thirty seconds. It's a big ask. Yes, maybe Steve can
- 9:30Speaker 2: fill in some of the silence. No, he won't do it,
- 9:34Speaker 2: shaking his head.
- 9:34Speaker 3: No.
- 9:36Speaker 2: If you got a question, Yanni, animals and plants that
- 9:44Speaker 2: are in decline and may be in danger of extinction.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Let's just get out of it, Man.
- 9:51Speaker 2: De tuck. We needed some us.
- 9:53Speaker 3: Putting something down.
- 9:54Speaker 4: You know, I'm helping with a fundraiser for the lesser
- 9:56Speaker 4: Prairie Chicken. It's kind of like the poster Child or
- 10:00Speaker 4: uh m, and both of those things are our big
- 10:08Speaker 4: time in.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Do you have this one right?
- 10:10Speaker 3: Cal?
- 10:11Speaker 4: I hope so, but I'm unsure of myself.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Yanni, I think you're out of time. Go ahead and
- 10:16Speaker 2: reveal your answers. We have set saying threatened Giannis without
- 10:21Speaker 2: an answer, Randall says imperiled. Cal says threatened.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Like cal spelled it wrong to make it not.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Already counted wrong, Steve says imperiled and proty without an answer.
- 10:34Speaker 2: The correct answer is imperiled. Steve and Randall got that
- 10:39Speaker 2: one right. The USGS uses to describe at risk plants
- 10:45Speaker 2: and animals. Any animal that's listed as endangered, threatened, or
- 10:49Speaker 2: vulnerable can be considered imperiled. In the United States, there
- 10:53Speaker 2: are about fifteen hundred species that are imperiled.
- 10:56Speaker 6: You had a lot of words I wanted to use
- 10:58Speaker 6: that had ten letters.
- 10:59Speaker 2: Vulnerable, threatened, threatened, dangered. I think those are all ten
- 11:02Speaker 2: letter words. Question three, The topic is fishing, because.
- 11:06Speaker 4: The i U c M goes threatened and danger, doesn't
- 11:09Speaker 4: it species the least concerned.
- 11:12Speaker 2: And imperiled is just a sort of a catch all
- 11:14Speaker 2: term for everything that's listed. And you said who's according
- 11:17Speaker 2: to who's he likes the question? Question three, The topic
- 11:21Speaker 2: is fishing. This word is both an immature insect and
- 11:26Speaker 2: a female deity in Greek mythology. Co this what's topic fishing?
- 11:33Speaker 2: This word is both an immature insect in a female
- 11:37Speaker 2: deity in Greek mythology. Steve and Brody quick to answer,
- 11:42Speaker 2: Yanni Randall and Seth now joining them his question three.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Thought I could tell Randall's gassy or couldn't think of it?
- 11:54Speaker 6: My lips fluttering in the breeze.
- 11:57Speaker 7: Once you determined, Steve gas right. This word Belgia. This
- 12:05Speaker 7: word is both an immature insect and a female deity
- 12:09Speaker 7: in Greek mythology. Brody, going back to his whiteboard after
- 12:13Speaker 7: being the first person to write his answer, cal, do
- 12:18Speaker 7: you have this one right?
- 12:19Speaker 2: I don't know, Okay, I would hope Brody, are you
- 12:23Speaker 2: ready sure? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 12:27Speaker 2: Seth and the Honest and Randolin Cow and Steven Brody
- 12:30Speaker 2: saying nymph they got it. The correct answer is nymph.
- 12:35Speaker 2: A nymph is a juvenile form of aquatic insects that
- 12:38Speaker 2: fly anglers often try to imitate. In Greek mythology, nymphs
- 12:42Speaker 2: are a large class of female deities that are often
- 12:45Speaker 2: associated with trees and water. These natured goddesses preside over
- 12:50Speaker 2: natural features such as beaches, meadows, caves, and clouds. Question four,
- 12:56Speaker 2: the topic is woodsmanship. This is our Athletic Brewing money
- 13:00Speaker 2: money Ball question of the week. For every correct answer provided,
- 13:03Speaker 2: Athletic Brewing is going to make a one hundred dollars
- 13:06Speaker 2: donation that's capped at five hundred dollars. This week, Athletic
- 13:09Speaker 2: Brewing is giving to the National National Wild Turkey Federation.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Here is your moneyball question. Mountain Hood is the tallest
- 13:19Speaker 2: mountain in this state. Another moneyball question for NWTF. Last
- 13:27Speaker 2: week we had two hundred dollars that went to them.
- 13:30Speaker 2: See if we can up that this week to the
- 13:32Speaker 2: capped amount of five hundred. Mounta Hood is the tallest
- 13:36Speaker 2: mountain in this state. Brody, Steve Randelliani all have answer, Seth.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Do you have this one right?
- 13:48Speaker 5: Uh?
- 13:48Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe maybe.
- 13:50Speaker 6: I hope you do for the sake of the National
- 13:51Speaker 6: Wild Turkey Federation.
- 13:52Speaker 2: That's right, Yes, only one of you can get it wrong,
- 13:56Speaker 2: so we can get that five hundred dollars donation from
- 13:58Speaker 2: Athletic to them. Cal, how are we doing down there?
- 14:04Speaker 4: Margrad?
- 14:05Speaker 2: Mount Hood is the tallest mountain in this state.
- 14:08Speaker 4: But if everybody's got an answer, ready to rock.
- 14:10Speaker 2: You ready go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 14:14Speaker 2: Seth saying New Hampshire. Giannis says Orges, Randall says.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Or away from the truth. That's Mount Washington.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Cal says Washington Steve says Oregon. Brody says Oregon.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Shit.
- 14:26Speaker 2: The correct answer is Oregon, meaning we're making a four
- 14:29Speaker 2: hundred dollars donation. NWTF Athletic is making the four hundred
- 14:36Speaker 2: dollars donation take care of our partners. At eleven forty
- 14:41Speaker 2: nine feet in elevation, it's the fourth tallest mountain in
- 14:44Speaker 2: the Cascades and the two hundred and eighty fourth tallest
- 14:47Speaker 2: mountain in the United States. You can see the mountain
- 14:50Speaker 2: from Portland, which is about fifty miles away. The USGS
- 14:53Speaker 2: says there's roughly a five percent chance that the volcanoy
- 14:56Speaker 2: ERPs in the next thirty years.
- 14:59Speaker 6: Ooh.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Question five?
- 15:01Speaker 3: Like that.
- 15:02Speaker 2: The topic is natural history. That's like the same odds
- 15:04Speaker 2: as that asteroid hitting in twenty thirty two. I think
- 15:06Speaker 2: they've been like two point four percent or something. Yeah,
- 15:09Speaker 2: five percent. If you gave me five percent draws on
- 15:11Speaker 2: a sheep tag, I'd take.
- 15:12Speaker 3: Out destroying size. But I think they do. They downed
- 15:16Speaker 3: it a little bit. Yeah.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Question five, have you.
- 15:19Speaker 3: Ever watched that movie Melancholia?
- 15:21Speaker 2: No?
- 15:22Speaker 6: Go on, you ever watched that movie Armagaine?
- 15:26Speaker 3: Again?
- 15:27Speaker 4: I don't want to come.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Great.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Question five, The topic is natural history. This American island
- 15:36Speaker 2: was known as the whaling capital of the world in
- 15:39Speaker 2: the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Randall very quick to answer.
- 15:45Speaker 2: This American island was known as the whaling capital of
- 15:49Speaker 2: the world in the eighteenth and nineteenth century. Steve, do
- 15:52Speaker 2: you have this one right? Yes, gave a grunt.
- 15:58Speaker 8: I like the kind of questions it I would know
- 16:00Speaker 8: and Randall wouldn't know. That'ska a good question for me.
- 16:04Speaker 2: We'll see, we'll see if we got any guy here, No,
- 16:07Speaker 2: you are letters. Don't be spoiled not giving you any letters.
- 16:12Speaker 6: It's the most common thing you could possibly associate with
- 16:15Speaker 6: the topic of whaling.
- 16:17Speaker 3: Maybe if I got here, I got a real uh clue.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Okay, give'll just give all the clues you need.
- 16:26Speaker 2: This American island was known as the whaling capital of
- 16:30Speaker 2: the world in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. This is
- 16:34Speaker 2: question fifteen. We'll get a scoreboard update from Fill the
- 16:37Speaker 2: engineer after this.
- 16:39Speaker 3: Can you be doing the Meat Eaters American History series?
- 16:43Speaker 3: We have weighed around.
- 16:45Speaker 8: And kicked around and decided against, and then re questioned
- 16:49Speaker 8: and decided against doing one on whaling.
- 16:53Speaker 2: I just read in Heart of the Sea.
- 16:56Speaker 4: How many how many how many clues are you going
- 16:59Speaker 4: to give out here?
- 17:00Speaker 2: That gives out a hint unless you've.
- 17:02Speaker 3: That's got my favorite, one of my favorite quotes of
- 17:04Speaker 3: all time. And oh the book does know him. I
- 17:07Speaker 3: had him.
- 17:10Speaker 2: That's a good one. Brody, how are we doing over here?
- 17:14Speaker 3: We'll find out.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Okay, everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers. I
- 17:20Speaker 2: have seven of a bitch.
- 17:24Speaker 3: He scratched around. There was a man from Nantucket.
- 17:27Speaker 4: That's principal.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Jannis crossed out Nantucket and put down Long Island. Randall
- 17:34Speaker 2: says Nantucket. Cal says Nantucket, Steve says Nantucket. Brody says
- 17:39Speaker 2: Long Island. The correct answer is Nantucket.
- 17:43Speaker 4: They all wrote it down so fast I thought they
- 17:45Speaker 4: couldn't write Nantucket.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Nantucket is located about thirty miles off the coast of Massachusetts.
- 17:53Speaker 2: During its whaling heyday, the small island community was considered
- 17:57Speaker 2: the wealthiest place in America. It's estimated that Nantucket whalers
- 18:01Speaker 2: killed forty thousand sperm whales between sixteen ninety and eighteen seventy.
- 18:06Speaker 8: The reason we decided not to do Nantucket or not
- 18:09Speaker 8: to do whaling, because so much of the action is
- 18:12Speaker 8: out of the youth.
- 18:12Speaker 3: It's like they're based in the US, but the South
- 18:14Speaker 3: America and the South Pacific, and you know what I mean.
- 18:17Speaker 3: So we didn't do it. I'm not fixing to do it.
- 18:20Speaker 2: Phil. We're halfway through round two. Give us a scoreboard update.
- 18:23Speaker 3: I could go on other reasons, reasons why it's heating up.
- 18:28Speaker 5: Unfortunately not for Seth who has six points. But after that,
- 18:32Speaker 5: Jannis has eight, Cow has nine, Brody has fallen behind Steve.
- 18:36Speaker 5: He's got ten points. Steve's up ahead of Brody now
- 18:39Speaker 5: with eleven, and Randall is still in first place. He's
- 18:41Speaker 5: got a two point lead now with thirteen points and half.
- 18:45Speaker 2: Point made the champion with a two point lead.
- 18:49Speaker 3: That's command, dude, terrible.
- 18:52Speaker 2: We actually drinking athletic because Randall's on number two.
- 18:57Speaker 3: The possibility of a tie breaker.
- 19:00Speaker 2: Totally if we do, if we do a tiebreaker, we
- 19:02Speaker 2: have three tiebreaker questions that we're gonna.
- 19:05Speaker 8: Because that's what I'll say it like, it seems like
- 19:07Speaker 8: just to throw it away on one like some.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Dude saying.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Question six. The topic is fishing. This next great question
- 19:19Speaker 2: is via Jeremiah Shearer. This seven letter word describes the
- 19:24Speaker 2: elongated nose of sawfish, pedalfish, sailfish, and sturgeon.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Ain't bill.
- 19:34Speaker 2: This seven letter word describes the elongated nose of sawfish, peddlefish, sailfish,
- 19:41Speaker 2: and sturgeon. Are players? Do you have.
- 19:45Speaker 6: It's in there somewhere. I don't have it quite yet.
- 19:47Speaker 2: I thought this could be he was already a question.
- 19:50Speaker 2: We have not had this as a question. This could
- 19:52Speaker 2: be a question though that I thought Steve would get
- 19:54Speaker 2: right and Randall would get wrong, one of those ones
- 19:56Speaker 2: he really likes. I got it, has it right? Randall
- 20:04Speaker 2: declared that he had.
- 20:05Speaker 6: I think you had it in flavor text somewhere.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Well, what was your first letter?
- 20:08Speaker 3: Just out of curiosity?
- 20:11Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, this was ever a question.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Let no, no, I just ignore what I'm saying.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Seven letter word describes the elongated nose of sawfish, paddlefish, sailfish,
- 20:22Speaker 2: and sturgeon. Brodie, do you have this one?
- 20:24Speaker 3: Right? I got seven letters.
- 20:25Speaker 6: I just feel like this is a word that has
- 20:27Speaker 6: sunk into my brain in this room.
- 20:29Speaker 8: Okay, that's very unfair, that's very unfair, into myrd.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Okay, you you did it. You gave it away when
- 20:39Speaker 3: I wasn't here. Now he's got it because you gave
- 20:41Speaker 3: it away.
- 20:41Speaker 6: I shouldn't have said anything. It's true, you know it.
- 20:45Speaker 4: I bet that this was a description at some point.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Maybe it was on a Meteor podcast, not even paddlefish questions.
- 20:53Speaker 4: Well, yeah, I mean in Spencer's of Fisheries. Dude, Ye yeah,
- 20:58Speaker 4: follow the bread crumb, Steve, that's right.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Still doesn't have an answer. This seven letter word describes
- 21:10Speaker 2: the elongated a sawfish, paddlefish, salefish, and sturgeon.
- 21:18Speaker 6: Might have to crack open another thinking juice here taste
- 21:23Speaker 6: great and burps like the real thing.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Oh, son of God, Yanni, you may take. You may
- 21:33Speaker 2: fall too far behind if you don't get this one right.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Oh, I hear you? Funny more sponser.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Sad you don't have to come to Episode three?
- 21:45Speaker 3: Might not seven might contribute to.
- 21:49Speaker 2: Some Ynniball question. Steve still has a blank whiteboard the money.
- 21:56Speaker 2: When he hears the answer, his hands are in his head.
- 22:00Speaker 2: If he's not already really mad, I think we should
- 22:03Speaker 2: just get on with it, and Randall is in his head.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Do you give up? Steve could give Randall a three
- 22:09Speaker 2: point lead.
- 22:10Speaker 4: He's not exactly in a power stand.
- 22:16Speaker 2: You give up.
- 22:18Speaker 3: It's something that I'm gonna be mad.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Okay, that's right.
- 22:22Speaker 6: Yeah, I feel like you do know it.
- 22:25Speaker 3: He's gonna break his board.
- 22:27Speaker 6: Oh, one, two three, don't do that.
- 22:30Speaker 4: We like you.
- 22:31Speaker 2: If, if, if Steve gives up, maybe you can give
- 22:33Speaker 2: him the first letter. He's not you know, won't count
- 22:35Speaker 2: towards his point. But see if it is up there somewhere, Steve,
- 22:38Speaker 2: do you give up?
- 22:38Speaker 3: I just don't. Haven't.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Okay, give him give him the first letter. Someone and.
- 22:44Speaker 3: R.
- 22:45Speaker 4: It's R and it's R.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Go ahead, answer seth and YACHTI without an answer, Randall
- 22:53Speaker 2: says rostrum. Cal says nostrum.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Oh no, oh no, the.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Nostrum, Steve without an answer. The correct answer is rostrum.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Randall got it.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Midrop stood up out of this chair.
- 23:17Speaker 8: Rostrum I was I was never gonna get Yeah, just
- 23:22Speaker 8: knowses man.
- 23:25Speaker 6: Emotional, I almost collapsed in on myself like a black
- 23:28Speaker 6: horse dying star.
- 23:30Speaker 3: There was the disappointment of not knowing.
- 23:32Speaker 8: There was the elation of realizing that Randall got it wrong.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Follow you got it right.
- 23:39Speaker 2: Fish aren't the only animals that have rostrums. They're also
- 23:43Speaker 2: found on dolphins, lobsters, and crocodiles. The rostrum often serves
- 23:48Speaker 2: an important.
- 23:48Speaker 4: Role es such as helping paddlefish with him helping.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Sailfish stun sardines. That is a rostrum question seven. The
- 24:00Speaker 2: topic is hunting. This is our listener question of the week,
- 24:04Speaker 2: which was won by Ross Snell for sending this great question.

- 24:43Speaker 1: Randall.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Do you have this one right?
- 24:45Speaker 3: Not yet?
- 24:46Speaker 2: Okay, so there is a chance there is. This aquatic plant,
- 24:54Speaker 2: which is named for its association.
- 24:59Speaker 3: Is the small Let's do that because.
- 25:02Speaker 6: Corn a flowering plant.
- 25:06Speaker 3: Yes, not very small though.
- 25:10Speaker 2: See if you have this one, I mean I feel
- 25:14Speaker 2: like I do bro. Do you have this one right? Well,
- 25:17Speaker 2: I mean you didn't put corn cal Do you have
- 25:21Speaker 2: this one right.
- 25:21Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 25:22Speaker 2: I feel like we're, you know, giving the guy with
- 25:25Speaker 2: a big lead too much time.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Here when he's not gotten it.
- 25:30Speaker 4: Man, do you know how to run the game?
- 25:33Speaker 3: Spencer?
- 25:35Speaker 2: Give up this aquatic plant, which is named for its
- 25:38Speaker 2: association with waterfowl. It's the smallest flowering plant in the world.
- 25:43Speaker 3: How can we never do that deal where you're come
- 25:45Speaker 3: into guest host anymore? Like where I get to do that.
- 25:48Speaker 2: You're welcome to do it. I'm I'm making like I'm
- 25:50Speaker 2: asking a big favor of someone when I do that,
- 25:53Speaker 2: so I reserve it for when I really need it
- 25:56Speaker 2: will get you on the schedule. Steve, it's every buddy,
- 26:00Speaker 2: give up. Randall, go ahead and reveal your same duck weed.
- 26:08Speaker 2: None says duck grass, Random says duck foil. Col and
- 26:15Speaker 2: Steve and Brody say.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Duckweed got foiled.
- 26:19Speaker 2: The correct answer is duck weed. Duck Weed flowers are
- 26:23Speaker 2: so small that you need a microscope to view them.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Despite their tiny size, they still attract pollinators such as
- 26:30Speaker 2: flies and mites, and, as the name implies, they are
- 26:33Speaker 2: a notable part of the diet of dabbling ducks and
- 26:36Speaker 2: diver ducks.
- 26:37Speaker 3: I might be toying with us.
- 26:40Speaker 4: Question, did you know that the produces the most leaves
- 26:43Speaker 4: in a season?
- 26:44Speaker 2: I did not know that.
- 26:45Speaker 4: Yeah, really, yeah, crazy? I think thirty most leaves out
- 26:52Speaker 4: for per per per season. So drop them, grow and
- 26:57Speaker 4: drop them thirteen.
- 27:00Speaker 2: I'd like more plans to do that question sounds like
- 27:03Speaker 2: a mate. The topic is conservation, a lot of reacing.
- 27:09Speaker 2: This nineteen sixty four children's book, which is about the
- 27:13Speaker 2: relationship between a boy and a tree, is often used
- 27:16Speaker 2: to teach environmental ethics. Stephen Randall both quick to their whiteboards.
- 27:24Speaker 2: This nineteen sixty four children's book, which is about the
- 27:28Speaker 2: relationship between a boy and a tree. I often used
- 27:32Speaker 2: to teach this environmental ethics. Never had this question before,
- 27:36Speaker 2: anything about this.
- 27:37Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a new version coming out that includes the
- 27:39Speaker 4: national debt. It's gonna be a hot seller.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Hey do you get if I put down the author?
- 27:46Speaker 6: Can I get more points?
- 27:47Speaker 1: No?
- 27:48Speaker 2: But I'd like to flex. You could do that anyway.
- 27:50Speaker 4: No, Oh, I can only think of an author right now.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Really, I could give a tidbit about the author. I
- 27:57Speaker 2: don't think i'd be giving anything away. No, you can't
- 28:00Speaker 2: be talking about the author. That might jar someone's Memorywards.
- 28:05Speaker 2: This nineteen sixty four children's book, which is about the
- 28:08Speaker 2: relationship between a boy and a tree, is often used
- 28:12Speaker 2: to teach environmental ethics. You have this one right.
- 28:18Speaker 6: I don't know if I like it.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Okay, see what, I haven't had a lot of children's books.
- 28:22Speaker 3: Let me get it coming across and change your mind.
- 28:24Speaker 3: Let me get a peek.
- 28:25Speaker 6: I don't want to do that. I don't want to
- 28:27Speaker 6: give you.
- 28:27Speaker 3: The poker face and a half.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Steve, you have this one right.
- 28:31Speaker 3: You give me a pizza so you'll see it in
- 28:34Speaker 3: a set.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Yeah, Brody, you have this one right. I hope I have.
- 28:39Speaker 2: You've always read this.
- 28:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I got this one right.
- 28:42Speaker 4: I remember discussing this book when we had kids of
- 28:45Speaker 4: the age that we would read it to.
- 28:47Speaker 2: And you didn't like it.
- 28:48Speaker 3: No, don't like it.
- 28:49Speaker 4: Oh okay, let's Steve, enough with this is Randall's answer
- 28:52Speaker 4: right here.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Enough with that. Let's flip them.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Hold on, hold on, Johanni going to his Life sixty three?
- 29:03Speaker 2: Is everybody Yhanni? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 29:09Speaker 2: have saying my side of the mountain, Janna says, the
- 29:13Speaker 2: giving Tree, Randall, the giving Tree, col the giving Tree,
- 29:18Speaker 2: Steve the Giving Tree, Brody says, the Loraxe. We have
- 29:22Speaker 2: had the Loraxe as I question before, but the correct
- 29:25Speaker 2: answer is the Giving Tree. The Giving Tree has sold
- 29:29Speaker 2: ten million copies since its debut. It's about a boy
- 29:33Speaker 2: who takes from nature and what the consequences can be
- 29:37Speaker 2: when you take too much. A two thousand and seven
- 29:39Speaker 2: poll of teachers by the National Education Association declared it
- 29:43Speaker 2: the third greatest children's book of all time. Steve, what
- 29:47Speaker 2: do you got on the Giving Tree?
- 29:48Speaker 3: He was a He wrote a lot of big country songs.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Oh, I didn't know that. I know. One of the
- 29:54Speaker 2: criticisms of the book was that his author picture on
- 29:56Speaker 2: the back was too terrifying for children. It was black
- 30:00Speaker 2: and white picture of him, and apparently it's scared off
- 30:03Speaker 2: kids from.
- 30:04Speaker 8: Yeah, we put Nashville. He moved to Nashville during the outwalk.
- 30:09Speaker 8: He wrote like Alice did he write Alice's Restaurant?
- 30:13Speaker 2: We're putting a lot on the bill there. He wrote
- 30:16Speaker 2: The Giving Tree Question nine and we're gonna hold off
- 30:20Speaker 2: on that.
- 30:23Speaker 4: Books there there was kind of like kind of a copy.
- 30:26Speaker 2: So I think his artwork was initially also criticized because
- 30:29Speaker 2: it was too similar to the Playboy artwork, which I
- 30:32Speaker 2: don't know if he did, if there was someone else,
- 30:34Speaker 2: but they said this is too adult. Not that it
- 30:36Speaker 2: had like, you know, adult, it was just drawn like
- 30:41Speaker 2: too rigid, like it wasn't soft.
- 30:43Speaker 4: Enough, but to make it more adult.
- 30:46Speaker 2: I don't know. It's just like it resembled what you'd see.
- 30:54Speaker 2: Question nine. The topic is cooking. Salty is a synonym
- 31:00Speaker 2: for this five letter word, which is how Michelin describes
- 31:04Speaker 2: the taste of Atlantic oysters. Oh, Phil, do you have
- 31:09Speaker 2: a picture for us?
- 31:10Speaker 4: I can't shoog right now. I was little screw up
- 31:12Speaker 4: the slide show, but I'll try to add it.
- 31:14Speaker 2: To the off on that until the end of his
- 31:16Speaker 2: other books. Salty is a synonym for.
- 31:19Speaker 4: This where the sidewalk?
- 31:21Speaker 2: And and why do you like that book?
- 31:24Speaker 3: Steve? It's all.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Question nine. Salty is a synonym for this five letter word.
- 31:33Speaker 3: Makes you want to kind of kids ass when you're
- 31:35Speaker 3: reading that book.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Maybe that's why you know what that was another criticism
- 31:39Speaker 2: I saw There was like a whole group of children
- 31:41Speaker 2: surveyed after they read the book, and they're like, he
- 31:43Speaker 2: never says thank.
- 31:44Speaker 3: You what you read the book?
- 31:46Speaker 2: Like that kind of prick yeah, which is how Michelin
- 31:50Speaker 2: describes the taste of Atlantic oysters.
- 31:54Speaker 3: You got it, Randall, Yes, there he is right.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Oh god, that is the author picture on the back
- 31:59Speaker 2: of the book.
- 32:01Speaker 3: That dude pulls up.
- 32:06Speaker 2: It seems like a justified fear.
- 32:08Speaker 9: It looks like a looks like a clay model that
- 32:12Speaker 9: they molded over like a Sorry.
- 32:21Speaker 3: I haven't heard of that one. This is very nice.
- 32:23Speaker 5: This is very nice, falling up a light in the attic,
- 32:26Speaker 5: everything on it.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Take that part out.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Salty is a synonym for this five letter word. It's
- 32:34Speaker 2: just how Michelin describes the taste of Atlantic oysters. Joanni,
- 32:39Speaker 2: how we doing over?
- 32:40Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm ready to go when you are.
- 32:42Speaker 2: It's everybody ready. Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 32:46Speaker 2: have seth saying Savory. Giannis says Brian Randall, cal and
- 32:52Speaker 2: Steve and Brody say, Briany, they got it. The correct
- 32:55Speaker 2: answer is Briany. I think we'll give it to you.
- 32:57Speaker 3: You come. He's that's the adjective.
- 33:01Speaker 2: He's pretty far behind. No, don't give it okay, Sonny
- 33:05Speaker 2: says he does.
- 33:06Speaker 3: For salt, he's going to be another adjective.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Johanny says he doesn't want it. We're not going to
- 33:09Speaker 2: give it to him.
- 33:10Speaker 3: I still want to argue about it.
- 33:13Speaker 2: The biggest taste difference between East Coast oysters and West
- 33:17Speaker 2: Coast oysters is that East coast ones tend to be
- 33:19Speaker 2: more briny. Well, West coast ones tend to be more sweet.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Other differences are that Atlantic oysters have a shallower cup
- 33:27Speaker 2: with a seaweed like finish, while Pacific oysters have a
- 33:31Speaker 2: deeper cup and a buttery finish.
- 33:33Speaker 3: Can hit you at.
- 33:34Speaker 4: Tidbit there can you start with the definition of synonym
- 33:36Speaker 4: for those of us in the room who don't.
- 33:38Speaker 3: Know synonym same antonin opposite.
- 33:41Speaker 2: There we go.
- 33:42Speaker 6: Sounds the same.
- 33:47Speaker 3: From from a text perspective.
- 33:49Speaker 8: All those oysters, as different as they are around the world,
- 33:53Speaker 8: all those oysters are the same species. It's all like regional,
- 33:56Speaker 8: you know, like you take one and move him to
- 33:58Speaker 8: the other side of the planet and his progeny are
- 34:00Speaker 8: gonna look like him.
- 34:02Speaker 2: I didn't know that I would have gone that wrong.
- 34:03Speaker 3: If you're blue muscle, blue muscles or circumpolar, just one.
- 34:07Speaker 3: I think they tax on almost think it's just one species.
