- 0:00Speaker 1: Do you know what happened to Adriana tonight?
- 0:02Speaker 2: I don't.
- 0:04Speaker 1: She talked to us. She said that you and Heather
- 0:07did this to her. So that's why we're talking to
- 0:10you too.
- 0:10Speaker 3: This is the moment Tina realized her murder victim was
- 0:13still alive, and to make things worse, her victim had
- 0:17just told the cops everything they needed to know to
- 0:20put her behind bars for the rest of her life.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We know what happened out there. It's just going to
- 0:25be a matter of getting fingerprints and evidence back brod.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Tina is currently being interrogated over the horrific attack of
- 0:33her friend in Florida. Like most teenage fights, it apparently
- 0:36started because of a dispute over a guy. But this
- 0:39isn't the story that she and two other suspects would
- 0:41tell investigators in this extremely sick case.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Okay, Tina, you know I can't call you, Tina. Okay,
- 0:49obviously know something's up, So tell me what happened tonight.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Nothing happened, and I don't know.
- 0:55Speaker 4: Love.
- 0:55Speaker 5: Heather just said that something about Arona got beat up
- 0:58real bad.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Okay, know anything about that?
- 1:01Speaker 6: No?
- 1:01Speaker 1: She arms and hands if I could. Okay, what's this right?
- 1:05Here that little scratch there. Yeah, I have a puppy, okay,
- 1:09and your puppy calls up, got your chin okay.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Nineteen year old Audreyana had gone over to her neighbor's
- 1:16house to patch things up after an argument, so she
- 1:18had no idea that fate was waiting for her. That
- 1:21neighbor was Tina Brown, and Audreyana was walking straight into
- 1:25a trap. What started off as a fight quickly turned
- 1:28into something much worse. But according to Tina, she's got
- 1:31an alibi.
- 1:32Speaker 1: So where were you tonight?
- 1:34Speaker 2: At Heather's.
- 1:35Speaker 5: At Heather's house, Heather says she was gonna cook, So
- 1:37I went down there. She was cooking a fish and
- 1:40French fries and then we just started watching movies.
- 1:43Speaker 1: You were there all night until the cops came up there.
- 1:45What time did you go over there?
- 1:49Speaker 2: I've it just started getting.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Out, okay, So about about sunset? Was anybody over at
- 1:54Heather's house when you went over there? Just Heather and
- 1:57her husband Heather, Okay, anybody else come over there?
- 2:03Speaker 2: Her and her little friend girls were at the house.
- 2:06Speaker 1: She said.
- 2:06Speaker 2: She hurt her hands.
- 2:07Speaker 5: So usually we get there and then everything is all right,
- 2:10So I don't end up going with her, but she
- 2:11said she was going to the emergency room.
- 2:13Speaker 1: What time was that when they came by? You know?
- 2:17Was it long after you got there? Okay, so early
- 2:21in the evening.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I don't know what time it was.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Oh, okay, so about thirty to forty five minutes after sunset.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Tina's daughter Britney, was also at Heather's house at the time.
- 2:34But the problem here was that they, along with Tina,
- 2:37were the three main suspects in the caves. The detective
- 2:40already knows there's bad blood between Tina and Audriana and
- 2:43spend some time discussing their friendship.
- 2:45Speaker 1: What has been going on between you and Adriana this week?
- 2:51Speaker 2: Oh?
- 2:52Speaker 5: ACTUALLYA and Adriana were together today?
- 2:56Speaker 1: Okay?
- 2:56Speaker 2: Were we all to go the house?
- 2:58Speaker 1: Okay? What was going on there?
- 3:00Speaker 5: And we were just sitting there watching movies, trying to
- 3:02get my computer pull it up or I can get
- 3:05iTunes and watch movies.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Have y'all had any problems?
- 3:08Speaker 5: Oh yeah, we've had problems the first three trailers.
- 3:11Speaker 2: We've had problems for a long time.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Well what's the problems?
- 3:14Speaker 2: Well, lately, the.
- 3:15Speaker 5: New problem is she thinks that I'm the one who
- 3:19had her boyfriend.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Locked up in jail.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Okay, so she's mad at you, thinking her boyfriend's locked
- 3:25up because of you.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Yep, But we talked about it earlier today.
- 3:28Speaker 3: This would be one of several accusations that surrounded the
- 3:31four women. Tina's daughter, Brittany, also claimed Audreana slept with
- 3:35her boyfriend, but even so, Tina says there were no
- 3:38issues over the last few days.
- 3:40Speaker 5: When me and her actually just started back talking today, okay,
- 3:44cause I asked her this morning.
- 3:47Speaker 2: What was I doing this morning?
- 3:49Speaker 5: Oh, we was trying to make some phone calls and
- 3:52I wanted to heat up some chicken, So I asked
- 3:54her when she put the church's chicken in her microwave,
- 3:57and she heat it up for me and brought it.
- 3:58Speaker 2: To my house.
- 3:59Speaker 1: Mkay. Do you know what happened to Adriana tonight?
- 4:02Speaker 5: No, I don't. Heather just says she got beat up,
- 4:04but that's all I know a little bit more than that.
- 4:06Speaker 3: The detective is talking about the horrifying injuries covering Audriana's body,
- 4:10and despite her story, Tina knows exactly what happened. Tina, Brittany,
- 4:14and Heather waited for Audreana to arrive at Tina's house
- 4:17in Insley before ambushing her with a taser and beating
- 4:21her down with a crowbar. The three then threw her
- 4:23in the trunk of a car and drove her to
- 4:25a secluded patch of woodland, where they set her on
- 4:28fire and then walked away. Clearly they expected her to
- 4:32be dead, but Audriana not only survived this horrific attack
- 4:36but managed to crawl to a nearby house and find help.
- 4:39She did this with burns covering over sixty percent of
- 4:43her body. None of the suspects, including Tina, know that
- 4:46she survived until the detective drops this bob show.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I'm not sure if she's gonna make it or not.
- 4:52She talked to us or is She talked to the
- 4:54people that came over to help her. She told them something,
- 4:58you know. She told them, She said that you and
- 5:03Heather did this to her. So that's why we're talking
- 5:07to you too.
- 5:10Speaker 2: But she said, I called. She's been saying a lot
- 5:12of stuff, lady, mkay.
- 5:13Speaker 5: She said, I called cause this is all stuff that
- 5:16we talked about today at my house. Okay about my
- 5:20tired was stabs, mkay? And I asked her if she
- 5:23did it?
- 5:24Speaker 1: She said, No.
- 5:24Speaker 5: I mean, I couldn't prove she did it, so we
- 5:26I ain't argue about it, fuss about it or nothing.
- 5:28Speaker 1: But you thought she did.
- 5:29Speaker 2: It just just because of what people said.
- 5:32Speaker 1: But did you hear about her window getting busted out?
- 5:36Speaker 2: Whose window?
- 5:37Speaker 1: Adriana's window getting busted out? A few days ago? You
- 5:41getn't hear about it?
- 5:42Speaker 2: No, sir, I didn't.
- 5:43Speaker 1: And you said tonight you were over at Heather and
- 5:45Darren's right, Yes, and you didn't go anywhere? H Did
- 5:48anybody come over there while you were there?
- 5:54Speaker 2: He had somebody come over, but I didn't go out.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Wh Who were they that came over? Did?
- 5:59Speaker 7: Did?
- 5:59Speaker 6: You?
- 5:59Speaker 2: Was dark and we had braids?
- 6:02Speaker 1: Kay?
- 6:02Speaker 2: And then it is another guy, but I didn't know
- 6:04who that block her?
- 6:05Speaker 1: Sound familiar?
- 6:05Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 6:06Speaker 1: And did anybody else come over?
- 6:08Speaker 2: Mm? Yeah, white guy in a red truck?
- 6:13Speaker 1: You know who that was?
- 6:14Speaker 2: No, he went out there and went outside and talked there.
- 6:17Speaker 1: And what was Darren doing while y'all over there? Cooking anything?
- 6:20Speaker 2: Being on the couch watching movies?
- 6:22Speaker 1: Is that pretty much what y'all were doing all the
- 6:24way until the cops came. Okay, so you, Darren and
- 6:27Tina were sitting in the living with the other were
- 6:30sitting there in the in the living room watching movies,
- 6:32and when the cops knocked on the door, wat y'all there?
- 6:35We were sitting there, Kay, Why he answer the door?
- 6:38Speaker 2: They about doing Okay, So.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Y'all sat there and when the cops came, they didn't
- 6:44answer the door. And how long were y'all in there
- 6:46before you did it?
- 6:47Speaker 5: Not that I guess the the tape was going out
- 6:50cause Adriana has a little boy that's kind of hyper.
- 6:53You say that that little boy probably had got that
- 6:55taser and tasted that little girl.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Alright, but you were home all night. You didn't see
- 6:59any kind disturbance going on over there before the cops
- 7:02came over there or anything.
- 7:03Speaker 2: No, we would have heard something.
- 7:05Speaker 3: Right now, Tina is starting to show signs of guilt.
- 7:09She's slumped over with her head hung down and avoiding
- 7:12eye contact, indicating she's very ashamed and regretful, or at
- 7:16the very least sorry she's been caught, whatever the case
- 7:19may be. She definitely seems uncomfortable, but as the detective
- 7:23points out, it's definitely not for the right reasons.
- 7:27Speaker 1: You didn't go to go get anything or go anywhere
- 7:29at all, I think. So, Okay, you seem kind of
- 7:39lacks of daisical about this. I'm telling you that this
- 7:41woman is probably going to die and has named you
- 7:46as the person that's harmed her. It kind of, you know,
- 7:50doesn't sit easy with me that you're just so nonchalant
- 7:52about this. I just I.
- 7:55Speaker 5: Just talked her to day and I thought I never.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Called DC if that's some of the kids.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Okay, Well, she's probably going to die is the word
- 8:02we're getting, and we're concerned over that. And the last
- 8:05person she said that did this to her is you
- 8:08and Heather. Okay, we're going to go out there. We
- 8:11know what happened out there. It's just going to be
- 8:14a matter of getting fingerprints and evidence back. Okay.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Once again, Tina shows her guilt, this time by touching
- 8:20her lips. This is often a telltale sign someone is
- 8:23lying and is trying to hide that fact by covering
- 8:26their mouth.
- 8:27Speaker 7: The reason we're here, Basically, what she told the fireman
- 8:32was that you two came and grabbed her. What she
- 8:37told the fireman was that you two came over and
- 8:40grabbed her, pulled her out of that house, beat her
- 8:45and harmed her.
- 8:46Speaker 5: And nobody out there, the kids or nobody saw none
- 8:49of this.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Nobody saw it. We talked to everybody in that neighborhood.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Kids always outside.
- 8:54Speaker 1: We've talked to everybody in the neighborhood.
- 8:56Speaker 4: You saw.
- 9:00Speaker 1: And she's saying that y'all did it, And we're sitting
- 9:02here talking to you, and then I'd certainly appreciate it,
- 9:04and I know Tom appreciates that you're talking to us.
- 9:07But we got to get to the bottom of this,
- 9:09and we got to know what happened, the truth. And
- 9:13two choices here. Either you're going to tell us or
- 9:16Heather's going to tell us. So who's gonna be I
- 9:22didn't do anything to her, okay, and you were home
- 9:25all night. You were at Heather's all night, never left there.
- 9:29Because see, the story between Heather and Darren is already shaky,
- 9:33and your story is a third version of what they've
- 9:36told us so far. This serious allegation. I mean, this
- 9:39is life changing and somebody's last may end over this.
- 9:43We're getting told that she's in pretty critical condition at
- 9:46this point, not likely to make it.
- 9:47Speaker 3: When Adriana was found, she reportedly told her rescuers that
- 9:51Tina had never expected her to make it out of
- 9:53the woods, let alone make it to safety. But despite
- 9:57her brave fight, Audrianna died from her ordeal sixteen days
- 10:00after her rescue.
- 10:02Speaker 2: I mean, just as today. Why she didn't tell me
- 10:05I've been blamed for a lot.
- 10:06Speaker 5: Well, it's a cycle over there, it goes to trainer.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Well, she didn't do it to herself. Somebody did.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Adrona been riding that bike all day to day.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Okay, but somebody did it to her.
- 10:19Speaker 2: I didn't.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Okay, she's saying you did it.
- 10:22Speaker 2: I didn't, saying I may the last thing she kills.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Somebody, you know.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Tina, Heather, and Brittany were all found guilty of murder,
- 10:32with Tina believed to be the ringleader. Had Audreyana not
- 10:35made it that day, these three killers could have escaped justice,
- 10:39but now Tina sits on death row waiting for her
- 10:42day of execution. Detectives often know exactly who the killers
- 10:46are right from the start, they just need to prove it.
- 10:48But sometimes things are different, like in this case, where
- 10:52the detectives realized they got things completely backwards and their
- 10:55main suspect ends up revealing the shocking truth. In the
- 10:59hunt from missing Girl.
- 11:01Speaker 4: Do you suspect Sam and any of this.
- 11:03Speaker 8: The guy that you know was interested in her, and
- 11:05you know some other guys are interested in her, but
- 11:06they found out she had a boyfriend.
- 11:07Speaker 9: You know, they're they're friends now. I really couldn't see
- 11:10him do it.
- 11:11Speaker 3: One afternoon in April twenty sixty, seventeen year old Ashley
- 11:14left her home in Illinois with her boyfriend for an
- 11:16interview and a basketball game, saying she'd be back before
- 11:19ten thirty. Ashley didn't return that night. Her terrified parents
- 11:24called the police, who found her boyfriend's vehicle abandoned with
- 11:27two outfits, one for the interview and one for the game,
- 11:30adding up all the evidence. Her boyfriend, Jeremy was now
- 11:33the prime suspect and was taken in for questioning.
- 11:37Speaker 10: Has she been through any kind of trouble or trying
- 11:40time recently or anything like that?
- 11:42Speaker 9: Not recently?
- 11:43Speaker 4: A while back? We had an abortion? Now and how
- 11:46long was that prime? December?
- 11:50Speaker 9: Well, no, it was a little bit before December.
- 11:53Speaker 4: How did he take that?
- 11:55Speaker 9: She was all right?
- 11:55Speaker 8: I mean, it wasn't like horrible, like about a depression
- 11:58or anything, you know, it was she's fine and she's
- 12:01a lot better now.
- 12:03Speaker 4: How often do you.
- 12:06Speaker 8: Once a day usually, and then on Tuesday nights we
- 12:09don't see each other because I got a designated party
- 12:12night with my buddies.
- 12:12Speaker 9: So other than that, it's usually once a day, once
- 12:15a day.
- 12:15Speaker 4: Some of you guys are pretty serious.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it's been going out for how long?
- 12:19Speaker 9: Almost two years? It'll be two years in July.
- 12:22Speaker 4: What if somebody came up and said that, you know,
- 12:24that she had some marijuana in her room.
- 12:28Speaker 9: I'd be real surprise. Okay, she tells me everything.
- 12:32Speaker 4: What about possibly owing somebody in Kahokia somebody for drugs?
- 12:37What about that?
- 12:38Speaker 9: I'd be really surprised.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Do you know the name Michael? That name is so familiar. No,
- 12:44maybe that's not familiar.
- 12:46Speaker 3: A name comes up during the questioning that Jeremy has
- 12:49never heard before, and his reaction to hearing the new
- 12:51name is noticeable. This would be one of many men
- 12:55in Ashley's life that he doesn't know about, but there's
- 12:58one that remains familiar to Jeremy. Twenty seven year old Sam.
- 13:03Speaker 4: Do you suspect anything between Sam and Ashley?
- 13:06Speaker 9: No, I couldn't see it. I mean, I just I
- 13:11trust them both too much.
- 13:12Speaker 8: I mean, I trust her so much more than him,
- 13:14you know, because it's my girlfriend. I don't think he
- 13:18would ever do anything to harm her. You know, It's
- 13:22just it doesn't seem like it's his nature.
- 13:23Speaker 4: Well, what about if.
- 13:26Speaker 10: You know, possibly not even harming, but what about if
- 13:32they were too you know, if they were an item
- 13:35or something like that, would you suspect that at all?
- 13:37Speaker 4: No? No, the fact that she had Tuesday night, you
- 13:41were telling me that you guys had a little argument.
- 13:43What was that about?
- 13:44Speaker 8: It was because apparently I yelled at her or something
- 13:47and she didn't like it, and then she gave me
- 13:51all my stuff back, but what she had and said,
- 13:53you know, I'm gonna break up with you, and I said, no, don't.
- 13:56Speaker 9: We talked it over and stuff.
- 13:57Speaker 8: And you know that it was just all just I
- 14:02don't know, just stressed because that's when she thought that
- 14:05she might be pregnant and yeah, and she turns out
- 14:08she wasn't.
- 14:09Speaker 9: And it was distressed of that doing that.
- 14:11Speaker 10: And you know, do you know any friends that she
- 14:15might be with us that you know, the good friends
- 14:19that she would hang out with, that she would go
- 14:20to their house.
- 14:21Speaker 4: Or anything like that.
- 14:22Speaker 8: I can't see the ones that she would their parents
- 14:25letting it happen and not letting her parents know. There's
- 14:28no way that if she went to Britney's house, There's
- 14:30no way her Britney's parents would you know, not tell
- 14:34Ashley's parents or Christie's house. There's no way Christie's parents
- 14:37would not tell Ashley's parents.
- 14:38Speaker 4: You know who does she normally hang out with, Like
- 14:40they're at.
- 14:41Speaker 8: School, Christy and some other girls. I don't know their
- 14:44names because I've never really met him outside.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Of school, but.
- 14:48Speaker 8: She's played basketball with I think a couple of them
- 14:51that I haven't met.
- 14:52Speaker 9: And I don't know their names. But other than that,
- 14:55just Christie's like the main one.
- 14:58Speaker 3: When Jeremy said Ashley went out of town to play basketball,
- 15:01the detectives wondered what it was that made her travel
- 15:03so far when there were basketball courts nearer her home.
- 15:07It turns out that the reason was Sam and Jeremy
- 15:11was completely clueless about anything going on between them. Suddenly
- 15:15police have a brand new suspect.
- 15:17Speaker 6: How long have you don't say, I was probably sophomore
- 15:24in high school. I want to say, when you met him,
- 15:26he was a teacher. I'm pretty sure he was a
- 15:29teacher over in Saint Louis. I think he was doing
- 15:32something something with kids, and then he was also doing
- 15:35wrestling stuff and he plays a lot of sports.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Yeah, what's he likes you?
- 15:40Speaker 8: He's just you're all around average, you know guy. I
- 15:43mean loves the party and you know, loves to teach.
- 15:48That's that's like his main goal. But he's just average.
- 15:52I mean, there's nothing specially unique about him. Just easy
- 15:56going guy.
- 15:57Speaker 10: But as far as like physical abuse at the house, no,
- 16:02have you ever seen anything like that. Have you ever
- 16:04seen any marks on her or anything like that, No
- 16:06bruises or anything else she.
- 16:08Speaker 4: Called you up and told you anything like that or no, Okay, I.
- 16:11Speaker 8: Know she's runs in the walls a lot, like literally,
- 16:14I mean she's got kind of I've.
- 16:15Speaker 9: Seen her do it.
- 16:16Speaker 8: Not like you know, she says that she runs in
- 16:18the walls, but I've seen her because I don't know
- 16:20if you want to call it, she's blonde or whatever.
- 16:22But yeah, it's not like a continuous thing. I've just
- 16:25seen her do it a couple of times. But her mom,
- 16:29she's she's real nice. I mean she's raising two girls
- 16:32and you know, dealing with Mike. But what's he like
- 16:35what's he's good he I mean he's a good dad.
- 16:38I mean he loves them both, both those kids to death.
- 16:40Speaker 3: After pressing him for nearly an hour, it slowly became
- 16:44clear to her detectives that Jeremy had nothing to do
- 16:46with his girlfriend's disappearance, but he had given them vital
- 16:50information about her. Twenty seven year old basketball friend, Sam
- 16:54was a teacher at a rival school, and his number
- 16:57was found in Ashley's phone. It turns out they made
- 17:00an awful lot of phone calls to each other, so
- 17:03this time he was brought in for questioning. In a
- 17:05story we've all heard before, Sam started out by claiming
- 17:08the relationship was friendship and nothing more.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Well, I'd give her like a hug goodbye.
- 17:12Speaker 2: How to do that?
- 17:13Speaker 10: That's how sexual I was interview with someone heard you back.
- 17:16Speaker 3: I think she kind of started becoming obsessed with me because,
- 17:18like I said, she was calling me not like literally
- 17:20not soot the time. But after being confronted with the
- 17:23testimony of Ashley's friends, he changed his story. I will
- 17:27say this, you never kiss He never kissed.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Yes, we did have sex and that of the.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Vehicle there and after that day I felt absolutely terrible
