- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome into jags AM On Thursday, November ninth, Pennie Stephens,
- 0:20Speaker 1: fran Sexton, John Osier with me today this week ten.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We're talking forty nine ers. We've been excited for this game,
- 0:25Speaker 1: definitely one you circled on the calendar early on when
- 0:28Speaker 1: you saw some of the marquee matchups for this team,
- 0:30Speaker 1: and seems like Fortinitars are getting healthy too, so it
- 0:33Speaker 1: should be a good kind of marker game, kind of
- 0:35Speaker 1: see where they're at their start study team.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I mean when you look at the roster and the names,
- 0:40Speaker 2: whether it's George Pittle, CMC right we just three initials, right,
- 0:45Speaker 2: or whin knows, Christian McCaffrey, and of course of the defense.
- 0:48Speaker 2: So it's no surprise that tickets are hard to come
- 0:50Speaker 2: by and they're selling stating room only. People know the
- 0:53Speaker 2: forty nine ers, and it brings out a lot of
- 0:54Speaker 2: folks who may be casual things.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Yeah. I know, Doug talked this week about it not
- 0:59Speaker 3: being a quote statement game, and I kind of like
- 1:03Speaker 3: the message because I think he's tired of talking about
- 1:05Speaker 3: a statement game. They've won what eleven out of thirteen games,
- 1:08Speaker 3: they've beaten the Bills, they've beaten the Steelers, They've beaten
- 1:11Speaker 3: the Cowboys during that I mean, how many statements do
- 1:14Speaker 3: you need to make before you sit? They're are making
- 1:15Speaker 3: a statement game and nobody hears you. So I think
- 1:18Speaker 3: to him, this is Look, we're a good team. They're
- 1:21Speaker 3: a good team. But I think not only from a
- 1:24Speaker 3: national perspective, which I'm kind of worn out on trying
- 1:27Speaker 3: to talk that national perspective, but from a showing you
- 1:31Speaker 3: what they are in the locker room. San Francisco can
- 1:36Speaker 3: really run. They're a powerful team. The Jaguars have spent
- 1:42Speaker 3: the last what sixteen games ish being a stout defense,
- 1:48Speaker 3: being a physical team, but they don't quite have that
- 1:50Speaker 3: reputation you since you go Mano Amano and stuff this
- 1:58Speaker 3: team out physical them, then you do have that reputation.
- 2:02Speaker 3: So and I think they can prove that to themselves,
- 2:04Speaker 3: not that they are have it already, but maybe they
- 2:08Speaker 3: can say something to themselves about that. Improve that once
- 2:11Speaker 3: and for all.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Let's go over some of our big things this week.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Big thing number one, thrush is going to be understand
- 2:17Speaker 1: the assignment. As we mentioned, there's a lot of big
- 2:19Speaker 1: names on the forty nine ers, a lot of star players,
- 2:21Speaker 1: but a lot of this is gonna come down to
- 2:23Speaker 1: doing your job and understanding the assignment.
- 2:26Speaker 4: You've got to play eleven on eleven right, and and
- 2:30Speaker 4: you know it's about our pieces against their pieces and
- 2:33Speaker 4: how best we can maneuver our guys and try to
- 2:36Speaker 4: create some matchups somewhere and and and yet you just
- 2:41Speaker 4: know that you know these guys are gonna make plays.
- 2:43Speaker 5: You know they're gonna they're.
- 2:44Speaker 4: Gonna make up tackle for loss, or they're gonna get
- 2:46Speaker 4: a sack, or they may you know, break up a
- 2:49Speaker 4: pass or something like that. But it doesn't keep you
- 2:51Speaker 4: from continuing to try right and execute your game plan.
- 2:54Speaker 4: So good players give them their respect, and you know you.
- 3:00Speaker 6: Still got to play.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Brian Doug talking a lot about you know, understanding that
- 3:05Speaker 1: they have star players. They're gonna make plays, they're gonna
- 3:07Speaker 1: get sacks, they're gonna get tackles for loss, whatever it's
- 3:09Speaker 1: going to be, and you kind of need to allow
- 3:11Speaker 1: that but also stick to the game plan that you have.
- 3:13Speaker 3: But it's gonna be a tough one.
- 3:14Speaker 2: They've had a couple of weeks to get ready for
- 3:16Speaker 2: this now with a buy and the coaches will have
- 3:17Speaker 2: a plan, right, Doug in the offense you have a
- 3:20Speaker 2: lot of confidence in because you know, and the defense
- 3:23Speaker 2: now you should have a lot of confidence in. You know,
- 3:24Speaker 2: last year you had a first year coordinator and they
- 3:27Speaker 2: were kind of working through things. But talking to players
- 3:29Speaker 2: in the locker room, especially Josh Allen yesterday, you know,
- 3:32Speaker 2: they have a lot of confidence in Mike cold Well
- 3:34Speaker 2: in that staff now, and they feel like Mike and
- 3:37Speaker 2: his staff have the confidence in them to go out
- 3:39Speaker 2: and run the plays that are called. So what you
- 3:42Speaker 2: really have is to do your job. Situation here, they've
- 3:45Speaker 2: got a game plan. If you do your job, you
- 3:47Speaker 2: have a chance to succeed.
- 3:49Speaker 3: With so much of an offense like the forty nine
- 3:51Speaker 3: ers because they put pressure everywhere in the running game
- 3:54Speaker 3: and they have so many options in the running game,
- 3:55Speaker 3: meaning I'm McCaffrey, Deebo, Samuel, these guys can do different things.
- 4:00Speaker 3: What offenses like that thrive on is usually defenses think
- 4:04Speaker 3: they have to do too much to stop them, and
- 4:06Speaker 3: they're jumping out of lanes. The Jaguars defense, if it's
- 4:09Speaker 3: to me, if it's defined by anything, it's that you
- 4:12Speaker 3: have one superstar player. Maybe Josh Allen, you know, is
- 4:16Speaker 3: ascending to that, but everybody else, Devin, Lloyd Foyer, Rashawn Jenkins.
- 4:23Speaker 3: You started listening off guys. They're all good, and I
- 4:26Speaker 3: think they're confident sort of what you said, Brian. They
- 4:30Speaker 3: don't feel like they have to do much special to
- 4:33Speaker 3: stop teams, so I think they can play assignment football
- 4:36Speaker 3: and all those cliches the top of the guys in
- 4:39Speaker 3: the locker room. They believe that if they play their game,
- 4:43Speaker 3: they don't have to do anything special to win this
- 4:45Speaker 3: or stop this really good forty nine ers offense. That
- 4:48Speaker 3: to me is the matchup.
- 4:49Speaker 6: Here's why do your job is so important. We talked
- 4:51Speaker 6: about it yesterday.
- 4:52Speaker 2: You have a coach and Kyle Shanahan who is so
- 4:55Speaker 2: gifted at moving personnel groups and creating mismatches and giving
- 4:59Speaker 2: you Hey, it looks like we're doing this, and everything
- 5:02Speaker 2: says we're doing this, But now we're doing this. That's
- 5:04Speaker 2: where they do your job comes in because Mike and
- 5:06Speaker 2: Doug they will have everything figured out. They will know
- 5:08Speaker 2: exactly what the tendencies are and it's about Hey, like
- 5:12Speaker 2: John just said, don't get anxious to think, well, I'm
- 5:14Speaker 2: gonna jump over here, because I can make the play
- 5:16Speaker 2: and then watch it go over here instead.
- 5:18Speaker 1: It's nice to see the narrative switch a little bit
- 5:20Speaker 1: to Jaguars play Jaguars football. We should be able to
- 5:22Speaker 1: win the game. You don't have to try to cater
- 5:24Speaker 1: to the other teams. It's a good spot to be at.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Big thing Number two is going to be stop the run.
- 5:27Speaker 1: We've talked about Christian McCaffrey and he is talented so
- 5:30Speaker 1: many ways. You also have to stop him yards after
- 5:33Speaker 1: catch as well, and Doug talked a little bit about
- 5:35Speaker 1: why Christian McAffrey is so dangerous.
- 5:38Speaker 4: You can put him anywhere anywhere in a formation, backfield,
- 5:42Speaker 4: put out wide motion him, you know, jet sweep, you
- 5:45Speaker 4: put him anywhere. He's just that type of player. Give
- 5:48Speaker 4: him the hand him the ball, throw him the ball,
- 5:50Speaker 4: screens down the field, just an overall solid player and
- 5:56Speaker 4: you have to account for him. And then you know
- 5:58Speaker 4: it's hard to get him on the ground. You know
- 6:01Speaker 4: he can break tackles, he's strong, you know, physical back
- 6:05Speaker 4: that you know does some really good things.
- 6:09Speaker 1: So we know Rock Cerry's been having some issues the
- 6:11Speaker 1: last couple of weeks, but Christian McCaffrey has just been so
- 6:13Speaker 1: dynamic for that team, and he's dangerous in a lot
- 6:15Speaker 1: of different ways.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Well, he's dangerous because to me, he's up I think
- 6:21Speaker 3: one of the first players since Marshall Fulk really who
- 6:24Speaker 3: can is just as good a receiver as he is
- 6:27Speaker 3: a running back and vice versa. The reason he's so
- 6:31Speaker 3: dangerous is you can do your job really well on
- 6:34Speaker 3: a play and he can still beat you. You can
- 6:37Speaker 3: do your job ninety eight percent and he can take
- 6:39Speaker 3: advantage of the two percent that you don't do because
- 6:42Speaker 3: he's so quick, his vision's so good. He's in everything
- 6:45Speaker 3: running back. So I expect him to score because he
- 6:49Speaker 3: usually does seventeen straight games. Yeah, I expect him to
- 6:52Speaker 3: be effective. But guess what, they've lost some of those
- 6:55Speaker 3: games where he scored. So he can be effective and
- 7:00Speaker 3: you can still win this game. You have to keep
- 7:02Speaker 3: him from being the fantasy football stat guy this week.
- 7:05Speaker 6: Well, here's the fantasy football stats for me.
- 7:07Speaker 2: In the last four games, he has six touchdowns, three rushing,
- 7:09Speaker 2: three receiving, and in each of the last two games
- 7:11Speaker 2: he has one of each. So he's a multipurpose threat.
- 7:14Speaker 3: And they've still lost. No, No, you can still beat that. Well,
- 7:19Speaker 3: you can beat them.
- 7:20Speaker 2: The problem for them, a problem for the Jaguars this
- 7:22Speaker 2: week is is Deebo Samuel's coming back, and that's we
- 7:25Speaker 2: saw him last year two years ago. Here eight rushes
- 7:28Speaker 2: for eighty nine yards in a touchdown. So now they've
- 7:31Speaker 2: got that two headed monster. So I'm thankful this week
- 7:34Speaker 2: that you have Devon Hamilton back. We saw him in
- 7:37Speaker 2: some limited action against the Steelers and they look pretty good.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Now he's having even more time to get integrated into
- 7:42Speaker 2: the defense because you're gonna need a rotation because if
- 7:45Speaker 2: you don't stop the run, and Josh said this, you
- 7:47Speaker 2: know is Sodi Rayshawn yesterday in the locker room. If
- 7:50Speaker 2: you don't stop the run, you have no prayer of
- 7:52Speaker 2: getting to the quarterback none. And if you get to
- 7:55Speaker 2: the quarterback, you can force turnovers. That's what they're trying
- 7:57Speaker 2: to get to. This kid's got six turnovers in the
- 7:59Speaker 2: last three games. So they got to stop the run
- 8:02Speaker 2: to be able to attack him. And they know what
- 8:04Speaker 2: Deebo Samuel back this week that that job, which was
- 8:07Speaker 2: already difficult, just got much much harder.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Definitely a hallmark of the Jaguars defense though, So there
- 8:12Speaker 1: is hope there. I mean, if they get off schedule,
- 8:13Speaker 1: they can't stop the run. That's we're way off the
- 8:16Speaker 1: plantation by that point. Where league by that point.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Giving up less than eighty yards rushing per game, they're
- 8:19Speaker 2: playing fantastic. Every indication is they'll be able to stop
- 8:23Speaker 2: the run. Now, they might not hold them to their
- 8:25Speaker 2: average seventy nine point three, but if they can control
- 8:29Speaker 2: it right, I mean, they never could be one hundred
- 8:30Speaker 2: and thirty yards by the time the game is over.
- 8:32Speaker 2: But if they can control it in the situations where
- 8:34Speaker 2: they need to to set a third and long, fine,
- 8:37Speaker 2: will know, no matter what the stats say. Will know
- 8:40Speaker 2: on Sunday after the Jags walk off the field, if
- 8:42Speaker 2: they stop the run. The numbers won't tell the story.
- 8:44Speaker 2: You'll know it with your eyes.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Our final big thing this week is going to be
- 8:48Speaker 1: make your house your Home. The Jaguars are six and
- 8:50Speaker 1: two so far on the season. They've won five games
- 8:52Speaker 1: in a row, but they haven't played their best football
- 8:54Speaker 1: at home, and that's something Dan Peterson, head coach of
- 8:56Speaker 1: this team, says he's got to change.
- 8:59Speaker 4: You know, first thing, the schedule gets a little more
- 9:01Speaker 4: normal for us here in the last half of the season.
- 9:06Speaker 4: You know, we haven't played our best football at home,
- 9:09Speaker 4: which is crazy. You know, those two early games that
- 9:13Speaker 4: that we didn't we didn't play very well, and you know,
- 9:16Speaker 4: those are all things that we have to we have
- 9:18Speaker 4: to do better. Right we're playing in front of our fans.
- 9:20Speaker 5: We're at home, you know, our stadium, our locker room,
- 9:25Speaker 5: and we've got to feed off the energy obviously the
- 9:28Speaker 5: crowd and and uh and play our best football, you know,
- 9:32Speaker 5: and and especially in the second half of the season.
- 9:34Speaker 4: That's something that you know, if if you want that
- 9:38Speaker 4: home field.
- 9:39Speaker 5: Advantage or try to play for home field advantage, you
- 9:41Speaker 5: got to do it at home.
- 9:42Speaker 4: That's why they call it home field advantage. So you know,
- 9:46Speaker 4: we've just got to we've just got to focus in
- 9:48Speaker 4: on that and and just continue to improve.
- 9:52Speaker 1: Brian, we've talked, you know, it's great that the team
- 9:55Speaker 1: can play so well away from home, but they talked
- 9:57Speaker 1: a little bit about putting a good product on the
- 9:59Speaker 1: field to the fan to have something sure about because
- 10:01Speaker 1: two of those home games we had this season have
- 10:03Speaker 1: been tough.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I go back to the last two games of last year.
- 10:06Speaker 2: They are a prime time now right against Tennessee and
- 10:08Speaker 2: against the Chargers. The crowd was insane and it sent
- 10:12Speaker 2: a message.
- 10:12Speaker 6: To the rest of the league.
- 10:13Speaker 2: I probably don't want to go there and play because
- 10:15Speaker 2: it's a very difficult place when it's all riled up
- 10:19Speaker 2: there were the Texans game is a rough one, you know,
- 10:23Speaker 2: because you wanted to come out and play well and
- 10:25Speaker 2: establish your dominance early and give it the chance, the
- 10:28Speaker 2: fans a chance to get into it. The Colts was better,
- 10:32Speaker 2: but Sunday's a chance because there will be a national
- 10:34Speaker 2: audience wash right, it's a premier game. There will be
- 10:37Speaker 2: a lot of new eyes on this place, and it's
- 10:39Speaker 2: a chance for them to see what a tough place
- 10:41Speaker 2: this can be. The Gicks, you've got to play well
- 10:43Speaker 2: to get the fans into the game, to make it
- 10:45Speaker 2: go well for them. But it's an important thing when
- 10:47Speaker 2: you especially consider you've got the Titans coming up, and
- 10:50Speaker 2: you've got the Bengals in the raven You've got some
- 10:52Speaker 2: big games here at home. You need to get the
- 10:54Speaker 2: crowd juiced up and get them ready for those.
- 10:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:56Speaker 3: I don't know they're gonna win or lose this week,
- 11:00Speaker 3: and the Jags, I don't really worry about them playing
- 11:04Speaker 3: well at home. I kind of attribute the Chiefs and
- 11:07Speaker 3: the Texans to me was more about early season working
- 11:11Speaker 3: through some stuff than it was not being able to
- 11:13Speaker 3: play well at home. They showed me last year they
- 11:15Speaker 3: can play well at home and take advantage of this.
- 11:16Speaker 3: They won what their last five here, so I attribute.
- 11:19Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not saying they don't need to go
- 11:21Speaker 3: get it done, but I don't really worry that they
- 11:23Speaker 3: have a problem playing at home. I thought those first
- 11:26Speaker 3: two games were more about them trying to figure out
- 11:31Speaker 3: coming back from last year, trying to figure out what
- 11:33Speaker 3: they were, etc. Etc. So I hope they go prove me.
- 11:36Speaker 6: Right on Sunday.
- 11:36Speaker 2: I do think if I'm the coach, I make the
- 11:39Speaker 2: point that Doug made it, which is, hey, we want
- 11:42Speaker 2: to play well here. We didn't play well against the Texans,
- 11:46Speaker 2: forget where it was, right, but we want to play here.
- 11:48Speaker 6: So let's have an emphasis of getting these guys involved.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Well. They want to establish that because you got the
- 11:53Speaker 3: Ravens the big game. Basically, you hold sir the rest
- 11:59Speaker 3: of the way at home, home, and when one or
- 12:02Speaker 3: two on the road and you're set. So they've got
- 12:05Speaker 3: it in front of them in terms of that.
- 12:07Speaker 1: A lot of primetime eyes on this game too, because
- 12:09Speaker 1: I think seventy five percent of the country's gonna have
- 12:10Speaker 1: this as their one o'clock games, so it'll be very
- 12:13Speaker 1: national stage for everybody. It's a good one first of
- 12:16Speaker 1: several big games for the day.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Stay with us.
- 12:18Speaker 1: We're gonna hear from QB one coming up after the break.
- 12:28Speaker 1: We're getting ready for the forty nine ers to come
- 12:30Speaker 1: to town. It's nice to be back home, play some
- 12:31Speaker 1: home games in front of the home crowd, and we
- 12:34Speaker 1: expect to be a big one coming off a bye week.
- 12:37Speaker 1: Both of these teams should be well rested, should be
- 12:39Speaker 1: healthy as they can be at this point in the season.
- 12:41Speaker 1: And Trevor Lawrence talked a little bit about taking that
- 12:44Speaker 1: time away but then also getting back into game mode
- 12:47Speaker 1: once you got back in the building.
- 12:49Speaker 7: We still feel that momentum, that energy that we that
- 12:52Speaker 7: we left with, you know when we took the week off.
- 12:54Speaker 7: But you gotta find a way to kind of get
- 12:57Speaker 7: that edge back because it is, you know, you're kind
- 12:58Speaker 7: of relaxing, getting your body back underneath you. You have to.
- 13:01Speaker 7: It's a long season. We played, you know, eight tough
- 13:03Speaker 7: games in a row and then now we got a
- 13:05Speaker 7: nice stretch, so you got to give your body a
- 13:07Speaker 7: chance to rest. But now it's today in practice, and
- 13:10Speaker 7: it started on Monday, really, had we had a lighter
- 13:12Speaker 7: practice and just getting that getting our legs back under
- 13:14Speaker 7: us and getting that edge and practicing hard, that's where
- 13:16Speaker 7: it starts. You can't just walk out there Sunday and
- 13:18Speaker 7: expect to expect to play with that edge if you
- 13:21Speaker 7: didn't all week in practice. So I think that's where
- 13:22Speaker 7: it starts really today and as we practice every day
- 13:26Speaker 7: of the week.
- 13:27Speaker 1: John, when we look at these two teams, they're both
- 13:29Speaker 1: going into a bye, but in different ways. Jaguars five
- 13:32Speaker 1: winners of five straight, the forty nine lost three, and
- 13:35Speaker 1: kind of the break probably meant different things to those teams.
- 13:38Speaker 1: But the refocused energy when you come back is really
- 13:41Speaker 1: because you're not carrying momentum at this point. It's it's
- 13:43Speaker 1: kind of starting over a little bit.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Yeah, for the Jags, it meant I mean, didn't it
- 13:48Speaker 3: feel like they were just pulling and trying to get
- 13:53Speaker 3: to that buy through this tough stretch and just thinking
- 13:57Speaker 3: if we can just get through this, gotcha, thank goodness
- 14:03Speaker 3: because it was hard and even Evan Ingram talked about
- 14:06Speaker 3: in the locker room on Thursday, Man, I feel like
- 14:10Speaker 3: we've been away from this place forever. One reason the
- 14:16Speaker 3: Doug is such a good coach. Doug Peterson. He talked
- 14:18Speaker 3: about what Trevor was talking about, and the thing that
- 14:21Speaker 3: struck me yesterday was when he spoke about needing to
- 14:25Speaker 3: get back to play in with energy for four quarters.
- 14:31Speaker 3: And I'm not saying it right, but that intensity level
- 14:34Speaker 3: that you need to win in the NFL. And I
- 14:37Speaker 3: don't think he thought that they had it early in
- 14:40Speaker 3: the season, and then they got it for five games.
- 14:43Speaker 3: He talked about it, players talked about it in the
- 14:45Speaker 3: locker room. He's clearly emphasizing that, hey, we've got to
- 14:48Speaker 3: get back to what we were doing, not only physically
- 14:51Speaker 3: but mentally. The energy, the focus, all that stuff. It's
- 14:56Speaker 3: why he's the head coach, Brian. He's really good at
- 14:59Speaker 3: emphasizing the right things, and that feels like something that
- 15:02Speaker 3: they need to give back to because boy, did they
- 15:04Speaker 3: have it for five games for the buy.
- 15:05Speaker 2: I can just tell you, you know, my conversations with
- 15:07Speaker 2: guys yesterday, there's an energy level for this game on Sunday.
- 15:09Speaker 6: They're excited.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Cam Robinson in particular, I spent some time with him
- 15:12Speaker 2: for a pregame radio interview and he's really you know.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I was asking him about the challenge of the Niners,
- 15:20Speaker 2: and I mean he's like, I'm ready for it. He goes,
- 15:22Speaker 2: I love. I live for Sundays where I'm going to
- 15:25Speaker 2: be challenged. He says, I faced the best in the
- 15:28Speaker 2: NFL over the course of my career. Then every Sunday,
- 15:30Speaker 2: I love it. But this is a challenge and I'm
- 15:32Speaker 2: really excited about it. And everyone I talked to shared
- 15:35Speaker 2: that they love the idea that the Niners are coming
- 15:37Speaker 2: in here. They don't love the idea that they're underdogs
- 15:39Speaker 2: at home, but they love the idea that they've got
- 15:41Speaker 2: a chance to go prove themselves on Sunday afternoon. They're
- 15:45Speaker 2: excited to play these guys. There's Fere's not the right word.
- 15:49Speaker 2: There's no trumpidation at all. They're ready to go. To me,
- 15:53Speaker 2: that was a really good sign backing up what Trevor
- 15:55Speaker 2: was talking about, in other words, getting back here and
- 15:57Speaker 2: getting to work. They're excited to get to work because
- 15:59Speaker 2: they're excited to get.
- 16:00Speaker 3: And I'm not a big raw ra guy. You aren't
- 16:04Speaker 3: locker room bulletin boards stuff, but I do think if
- 16:10Speaker 3: if I'm the Jag and this team is really about team.
- 16:15Speaker 3: I mean, in talking to players, it's a selfless team
- 16:20Speaker 3: that cares about winning, and not all NFL teams feel
- 16:24Speaker 3: the same way about that. And I think for them,
- 16:29Speaker 3: they're three point underdogs, which means the world whatever that is,
- 16:33Speaker 3: thinks the Niners are six points better. I do think
- 16:39Speaker 3: that makes this a little bit of a you know what,
- 16:42Speaker 3: we won five in a row. I do wonder if
- 16:46Speaker 3: that can come into play on Sunday.
- 16:48Speaker 1: I think some of the lack of you know, maybe
- 16:51Speaker 1: national understanding where this team is at is because they
- 16:53Speaker 1: haven't seen a huge jump out of Trevor Lawrence because
- 16:56Speaker 1: they're not watching it. You know, if you just look
- 16:57Speaker 1: at the box score, you're not watching the game, probably
- 17:00Speaker 1: not seeing what Trevor Lawrence has been able to do
- 17:01Speaker 1: for this team. And Trevor did talk about really wanting
- 17:04Speaker 1: to get the offense going and put up a good
- 17:06Speaker 1: offensive performance in this game.
- 17:09Speaker 7: We've been I think we've been a lot more consistent
- 17:11Speaker 7: on just moving the ball, not stalling out as much.
- 17:15Speaker 7: But then you see two weeks ago we have the
- 17:17Speaker 7: we have the dumb turn turnovers that kind of kept
- 17:20Speaker 7: Pittsburgh in the game and gave him a shot and
- 17:22Speaker 7: didn't let us really take off and blow the game open.
- 17:26Speaker 7: So it's something like that every week that we got
- 17:28Speaker 7: to fix. So you know, you're hoping every week is
- 17:30Speaker 7: that week, and we're emphasizing it. We've got a lot
- 17:32Speaker 7: of a lot of emphasis on the details of just
- 17:34Speaker 7: not having turnovers, being better on third down and all
- 17:38Speaker 7: those things play together, and having a clean game. And
- 17:41Speaker 7: that's the idea is having a game where you can
- 17:42Speaker 7: come out of it not any or many turnovers at all,
- 17:46Speaker 7: being great on third down, scoring in the red zone.
- 17:49Speaker 7: It'd be nice to you know, put all those together
- 17:50Speaker 7: this week and against a good team like this, this
- 17:52Speaker 7: is the week to do it. You know, you gotta
- 17:54Speaker 7: gotta play well against great teams.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Obviously, every week we're kind of hoping that's the week
- 17:59Speaker 1: that we see the offense, you know, be to what
- 18:01Speaker 1: we expect them to be. But they have been getting better.
- 18:04Speaker 1: They're consistent, and we've seen that complimentary football from this team,
- 18:07Speaker 1: and Trevor talking a little bit about what they were
- 18:10Speaker 1: able to do in Pittsburgh and you know, so shooting
- 18:13Speaker 1: themselves on the foot at some points, and we're kind
- 18:15Speaker 1: of hoping maybe got some of that energy out maybe
- 18:17Speaker 1: that interception out of the way, so now we can
- 18:20Speaker 1: turn the page here.
- 18:20Speaker 2: A turnovers the last four games. Change that and you
- 18:23Speaker 2: have a better offensive showing in every game. But the
- 18:26Speaker 2: other thing, and I feel like I'm beating a dead
- 18:28Speaker 2: horse here. They're inconsistent on third down. Right, one week
- 18:32Speaker 2: it's good, it's fifty percent. The next week it's horrible.
- 18:34Speaker 2: It's thirty two percent. And they're averaging about thirty six
- 18:37Speaker 2: percent on the season. They've got to get that number up.
- 18:39Speaker 2: They've got to be more efficient. They've got to be
- 18:41Speaker 2: more consistent on third down and short if they are,
- 18:44Speaker 2: and of course Trevor talked about this yesterday. He talked
- 18:46Speaker 2: about not putting yourselves in third down. He goes, get
- 18:48Speaker 2: a first down on first down, get a first down
- 18:50Speaker 2: and second down, great, But when you do get to
- 18:52Speaker 2: those third and short situations, for this offense to find
- 18:55Speaker 2: a tempo rhythm, choose your adjective, they're just gonna stay
- 18:58Speaker 2: on the field.
- 18:59Speaker 6: They need to be better on them.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Yeah, the thing that Doug really wants fixed going forward,
- 19:04Speaker 3: and it's kind of self evident. Thirteen giveaways, which is
- 19:07Speaker 3: second the league. Their third down and red zone are
- 19:11Speaker 3: the twenty fifth, twenty six, whatever, it's not good and
- 19:14Speaker 3: all that sort of ties together. It's all about those
- 19:17Speaker 3: big moments. I wrote a story for the site for today.
- 19:24Speaker 3: I don't remember the exact number, but it is an
- 19:28Speaker 3: insane number of times this team that's driven past the
- 19:31Speaker 3: fifty and not gotten points this year. It's like twenty
- 19:34Speaker 3: seven or twenty eight drives that they've gone inside the
- 19:37Speaker 3: opponent's fifty. Well, start adding that up. That's three or
- 19:40Speaker 3: four game. You get three or seven out of one
- 19:45Speaker 3: of those, and all of a sudden, all this angst
- 19:47Speaker 3: about the offense isn't there. My point is, it's not
- 19:50Speaker 3: that they're not moving. It's not that they're not capable
- 19:53Speaker 3: of moving, and they're there. It's that those big moments,
- 19:57Speaker 3: those big things. It's certainly a It certainly got better
- 20:01Speaker 3: last year. I think it will get better moving forward.
- 20:04Speaker 3: But that's what people are feeling about the offense.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Certainly feels like it's just right there, just almost there.
- 20:11Speaker 1: We'll have to see if it comes together fully for
- 20:14Speaker 1: us in the forty nine ers game. Stay with us
- 20:16Speaker 1: after the break. We're gonna go over some of our
- 20:18Speaker 1: game changers we think for the matchup. Welcome back, to
- 20:27Speaker 1: jag z Am. We're here in the Hyundai studios and
- 20:29Speaker 1: we're gonna talk a little bit about some of the
- 20:31Speaker 1: Jaguars players we have our eye on this week. So, Brian,
- 20:35Speaker 1: when you're looking at who might do something in this game,
- 20:37Speaker 1: who do you have your eye on?
- 20:39Speaker 2: Walker Little in particular. I think he is a guy
- 20:43Speaker 2: who will it's the right way to put this, He'll
- 20:46Speaker 2: be the difference maker on third and short, right, He'll
- 20:48Speaker 2: be that guy he is He might be your best
- 20:52Speaker 2: offensive lineman. I mean, I think he's tremendously talented. He's
- 20:57Speaker 2: very athletic, he's very powerful. He won't be over matt By,
- 21:00Speaker 2: you know, bigger guys like Hargrave in Armstead. And I
- 21:04Speaker 2: think he's that guy who will you know you'll be
- 21:06Speaker 2: able to run behind him, You'll be able to He'll
- 21:08Speaker 2: lift the play of Luke Fordner up and help them
- 21:11Speaker 2: work through it and be more successful on third and
- 21:14Speaker 2: short and keep drives alive.
- 21:16Speaker 3: I went with Foyer. Lukan he will play well because
- 21:22Speaker 3: he always does. He's as consistent and I think he's
- 21:26Speaker 3: playing better than last season. It seems to me like
- 21:29Speaker 3: he has more tackles in that one in two yard
- 21:34Speaker 3: range than he did last year. I think the overall
- 21:36Speaker 3: defense is playing better around him. He won't need to
- 21:40Speaker 3: stop at forty nine of his offense all by himself,
- 21:42Speaker 3: because I think the key for this game is what
- 21:45Speaker 3: I said earlier, the fact that all eleven guys on
- 21:48Speaker 3: this defense, they play so well together and it's rare
- 21:52Speaker 3: to see guys out of position. What's been remarkable to
- 21:54Speaker 3: me about this defense is how often the running game
- 21:59Speaker 3: can be a little hard to get a feel for
- 22:02Speaker 3: when you're watching it, because if you're if you're getting
- 22:06Speaker 3: the difference between three and four yards on first down
- 22:08Speaker 3: and one and two is a lot. The Jaguars, to me,
- 22:13Speaker 3: have done a great job this year of stopping and
- 22:16Speaker 3: all of a sudden you're in second and eight instead
- 22:18Speaker 3: of second and six, and those two yards for down
- 22:20Speaker 3: and distance or can be everything what you're trying to do.
- 22:24Speaker 3: But he might he might make the Pro Bowl off
- 22:27Speaker 3: this game, And what I mean by that is it's
- 22:30Speaker 3: a national game up, you're gonna be watching it. He's
- 22:32Speaker 3: already had the interception for a touchdown on national TVs.
- 22:35Speaker 3: People are aware of he's the league in tackles. Pro
- 22:38Speaker 3: Bowl can be a reputation type thing. Have a big
- 22:41Speaker 3: game in a game like this, or just get people
- 22:43Speaker 3: talking about you in a game like this and all
- 22:45Speaker 3: of a sudden, you know, it's a shame it works
- 22:48Speaker 3: that way because he deserves it no matter how he
- 22:50Speaker 3: plays on Sunday. But this is the kind of game
- 22:53Speaker 3: they can put a middle linebacker. Oh, you're stopping the
- 22:55Speaker 3: forty nine ers, So this is the kind of game
- 22:59Speaker 3: they can make a reputation for a player like him.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Well, especially with Fred Warner on the other side for
- 23:03Speaker 2: the Niners, they'll be talking about him. And if foyers
- 23:05Speaker 2: playing well, you'll be You'll be in the same breath
- 23:08Speaker 2: as a guy who is generally considered the best overall
- 23:11Speaker 2: linebacker in football.
- 23:12Speaker 6: So that's good for him.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I went with Josh Allen. I think he's been having
- 23:17Speaker 1: quite a season. I think he will get to Rock
- 23:19Speaker 1: Purty on Sunday, and I think he won't let up
- 23:24Speaker 1: in that regard because we've seen him gas out. He's
- 23:27Speaker 1: if anybody need a bye, he gets. Josh Allen, what
- 23:29Speaker 1: he's been able to do in the first half of
- 23:31Speaker 1: this season has been impressive. He's a man playing for
- 23:33Speaker 1: a contract and he's earning every penny at this point,
- 23:36Speaker 1: he might be the difference maker in this game because
- 23:38Speaker 1: I think he'll either get a strip, sack, force of fumble,
- 23:41Speaker 1: get an extra possession, and I think at the end
- 23:42Speaker 1: of the day, it might come down to who's going
- 23:44Speaker 1: to win the turnover battle in this game. Brian, we
- 23:47Speaker 1: talked about Josh Allen needing to play well this season
- 23:49Speaker 1: and kind of earn that contract, if you will. But
- 23:52Speaker 1: it's so impressive what he's been able to do, and
- 23:54Speaker 1: I don't see him slowing down.
- 23:55Speaker 2: He might be the most consistent pass rusher in the league.
- 23:57Speaker 2: And it seems ridiculous because t J. Watt's so very
- 24:00Speaker 2: good and Nick Bose is so very good, but he
- 24:02Speaker 2: leaves in the league with pressures, right, he can forty eight
- 24:05Speaker 2: coming into this week, and he is just consistently there.
- 24:09Speaker 2: And maybe it's because he doesn't see as many double
- 24:11Speaker 2: teams as TJ. Watt as I don't know there are
- 24:14Speaker 2: reasons why, but I just he's really really good. And
- 24:18Speaker 2: I think we take him for granted in Jacksonville because
- 24:20Speaker 2: he's had some good and some bad bad it's the
- 24:23Speaker 2: wrong word, he said, some good and some not as
- 24:25Speaker 2: productive games. But he's got nine sacks near the top
- 24:28Speaker 2: of the what a half a sack off the AFC League. Yeah, yeah,
- 24:31Speaker 2: not very far. And he's got nine games left and
- 24:35Speaker 2: you just you look and see where he could have
- 24:38Speaker 2: a He could break Kalay's Campbell's I think single season
- 24:40Speaker 2: franchise record. You bet he was talking about it yesterday.
- 24:43Speaker 2: That means something to him, because Kalais means something to him.
- 24:46Speaker 3: He's been underappreciated around here for a long time when
- 24:53Speaker 3: you consider how important game situations are to sacks. From
- 25:00Speaker 3: of his career, he's played on a team that's trailed
- 25:03Speaker 3: by ten points a lot, and there are some years
- 25:07Speaker 3: where it was insane how many double digit games they lost.
- 25:10Speaker 3: It's hard to get sacks if the other team's not throwing.
- 25:12Speaker 3: And if the other team doesn't have to throw. This year,
- 25:15Speaker 3: guess what, the Jaguars are better. His pressures are becoming
- 25:19Speaker 3: sacks because there's more situations where he can do it.
- 25:21Speaker 3: And I'm not take anything away from what he's done
- 25:23Speaker 3: this year, but he's always been a good player and
- 25:26Speaker 3: I'm ecstatic for him that it's showing up in the
- 25:28Speaker 3: status sheet for him because he's a class act.
- 25:32Speaker 2: And I think you could have made the case going
- 25:33Speaker 2: into the season there was a chance he might be
- 25:35Speaker 2: somewhere else in twenty twenty four if Trayvon came on
- 25:38Speaker 2: and had a big year, and if his numbers hadn't translated.
- 25:41Speaker 2: But he's meant so much to this defense and its
- 25:43Speaker 2: overall level of performance. I don't think there's any way
- 25:46Speaker 2: he plays anywhere else.
- 25:47Speaker 3: I don't see how you don't.
- 25:48Speaker 6: It's all valuable.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Whatever it takes, they're going to create a creative way
- 25:52Speaker 2: to work it all in and Josh Allen will be
- 25:54Speaker 2: here long term.
- 25:55Speaker 3: You know why, Brian, because you trust him.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Yes, he's He's also the kind of per one in
- 26:00Speaker 2: your locker room. He is a stand up. He's a
- 26:03Speaker 2: good father, he's a good husband by all accounts. He's
- 26:06Speaker 2: a good neighbor, he's a good teammate, and he's a
- 26:08Speaker 2: good football player. Those guys the whole package don't come
- 26:11Speaker 2: along that often, and we now see that he's the
- 26:14Speaker 2: whole package. He's going to get a big contract to
- 26:16Speaker 2: deserve it.
- 26:17Speaker 3: His ceiling is very high, but his floor is too.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Even when he hadn't had these numbers, he's really really
- 26:22Speaker 3: good on and off the field.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Integral part of this team, so happy to see him
- 26:26Speaker 1: having as much success as he's having this season. Stay
- 26:28Speaker 1: with us after the break, we'll go over our final
- 26:30Speaker 1: predictions for the game and talk a little bit more.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Forty nine ers.
- 26:41Speaker 7: The fans are going to be huge. I mean, obviously
- 26:43Speaker 7: we've got a lot of momentum right now and they're
- 26:44Speaker 7: a huge part of that. And just bringing that. You know,
- 26:46Speaker 7: we've been really successful on the road this year. We
- 26:50Speaker 7: need to start winning at home more and that's a
- 26:51Speaker 7: big part of you know, with our fans as well,
- 26:53Speaker 7: and I know that's what they're looking forward to seeing.
- 26:55Speaker 7: So we just need all we can get all that
- 26:57Speaker 7: home field advantage.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Trevor Lawren saying the Man cast, he's excited to be
- 27:01Speaker 1: Jacksonville's quarterback, and he's excited to be at home play
- 27:04Speaker 1: for the fans. Standing room only at this point for
- 27:06Speaker 1: forty nine ers, but get out there if you can.
- 27:07Speaker 2: He always fit this town when he's playing at Clemson.
- 27:10Speaker 2: Just everything about him screamed Jacksonville, and in talking to
- 27:15Speaker 2: him back in the preseason for an interview before a
- 27:18Speaker 2: preseason football game, he talked about how much and his
- 27:22Speaker 2: wife love it here. It's just it's genuine and real
- 27:24Speaker 2: and people can connect with him. He's the perfect quarterback
- 27:27Speaker 2: for this town.
- 27:28Speaker 1: It should be a good one.
- 27:29Speaker 3: Are you guys?
- 27:29Speaker 1: Do you have game predictions for us?
- 27:31Speaker 3: Yeah? I think they win if they can get a
- 27:36Speaker 3: couple of turnovers. I think they need the big plays
- 27:38Speaker 3: energy from that. I think in this game you need
- 27:41Speaker 3: to have Andre Cisco and leading the team on this
- 27:44Speaker 3: thing that they do now when they get interception and
- 27:46Speaker 3: they're running down and they're doing it, you know, and
- 27:49Speaker 3: you got to see a way out of the defense
- 27:51Speaker 3: for them to win this game. Maybe two maybe two okay,
- 27:53Speaker 3: maybe two ways.
- 27:56Speaker 6: I have a good feeling about it.
- 27:57Speaker 2: I mean I can't say they are a certain score,
- 28:00Speaker 2: you know, with the Niners and how well coached they
- 28:02Speaker 2: are and how talented they are, they're's gonna go into
- 28:04Speaker 2: the fourth quarter. I mean, you're not gonna run away
- 28:06Speaker 2: from these guys and have a two touchdown lead with
- 28:08Speaker 2: ten minutes to play.
- 28:10Speaker 6: So I just this team proved last year that they
- 28:13Speaker 6: can win games late.
- 28:13Speaker 2: They've proven that they can overcome mistakes, especially with eight
- 28:17Speaker 2: turnovers in the last four games and all of those
- 28:19Speaker 2: being wins.
- 28:20Speaker 6: So I have a good feeling.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Just I think this is a really good team. I
- 28:23Speaker 2: think I think this is as good a team as
- 28:25Speaker 2: there is in the AFC. It might be the best
- 28:27Speaker 2: team in the AFC. I mean, watching all the weekend
- 28:31Speaker 2: and I know Kansas City and I know them well.
- 28:33Speaker 2: I think this may be the best team in the AFC.
- 28:35Speaker 2: And they should be able to beat the best team
- 28:36Speaker 2: in the NFC, which is the Eagles right now, but
- 28:39Speaker 2: you got to beat you.
- 28:40Speaker 6: Gotta beat the Niners.
- 28:42Speaker 2: And at one point at five and zer after they
- 28:44Speaker 2: had clouded the Cowboys, everyone thought they were the best
- 28:46Speaker 2: team in the NFL. They get all those players back, right, Deebo, Samuel,
- 28:50Speaker 2: Trent Williams. They're all back, So this could be best
- 28:53Speaker 2: versus best. Let's see what you got.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Absolutely gotta beat the next team on your schedule. I'm
- 28:57Speaker 1: gonna I'm go with the Jags too, why not? And
- 28:59Speaker 1: maybe this will be the breakout week for the offense too.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Of course, we'll have you covered on game day with
- 29:04Speaker 1: all of your coverage on Jaguars dot Com and then
- 29:05Speaker 1: we'll be right back here on Jagxam on Monday to recap.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Hopefully Jaguars win. Enjoy the game,
