- 1:29Speaker 5: Muso back ye in bad Ruge holding it down inside
- 1:32Speaker 5: the Raising Cane studio. We are very excited going to
- 1:36Speaker 5: be here all week long. Already kind of active here
- 1:40Speaker 5: in the convention center. In years past, sometimes we've been
- 1:43Speaker 5: here and it's been maybe two shows going. I guess
- 1:47Speaker 5: Morning shows decided they wanted to join OTB here at
- 1:50Speaker 5: the Senior Bowl.
- 1:51Speaker 2: So some activity already.
- 1:53Speaker 5: You can tell there's a couple of players that are
- 1:55Speaker 5: already up having to do some media here, some sleepy
- 1:59Speaker 5: eyes as they get ready for well the most important
- 2:02Speaker 5: week of their life.
- 2:04Speaker 6: Yeah, well great early weekend to you, buddy, or week
- 2:10Speaker 6: is a I just I'm excited. I'm a I finally
- 2:14Speaker 6: got invited to the Senior Bowl, so I finally made it.
- 2:18Speaker 6: I excited to get the week started. We are here
- 2:21Speaker 6: at the Convention Center here in Mobile, Alabama, and yeah,
- 2:25Speaker 6: it's an early morning, and let me tell you, it's
- 2:28Speaker 6: a cold morning, and I know we're all feeling and
- 2:30Speaker 6: everybody in the country is feeling it. I think it's
- 2:32Speaker 6: a little bit warmer here than it is back home
- 2:35Speaker 6: and baton rouge. So I think schools are canceled. I
- 2:39Speaker 6: hope everybody has a safe little uh stay safe today,
- 2:42Speaker 6: stays warm and yeah we're feeling it, but we're walking
- 2:45Speaker 6: over this catwalk right here from the parking garage. Who
- 2:48Speaker 6: that wind was whipping through got me feeling like, you know,
- 2:51Speaker 6: football weather a little bit. So I bet these I'm
- 2:54Speaker 6: excited ask these ask these players if they've especially a
- 2:57Speaker 6: lot of these guys from the South. We just saw
- 2:58Speaker 6: saw Robinson walking around quarterback at Baylor from Lubbock, Texas.
- 3:02Speaker 6: So excited to kind of see like, hey, have you
- 3:05Speaker 6: played in like you know, maybe not half the teams
- 3:09Speaker 6: but a decent portion of the teams that could pick
- 3:11Speaker 6: you or you could play for in the NFL are
- 3:13Speaker 6: gonna have games just like this. So how's that gonna it?
- 3:17Speaker 6: Would be excited to see how those guys translate. Excited
- 3:20Speaker 6: to see the practices this week. I'm fired up for it.
- 3:22Speaker 4: I really am.
- 3:23Speaker 6: Just see the best of the best compete. Like the
- 3:25Speaker 6: guys that we've that we've seen walking around right now.
- 3:27Speaker 6: We saw a kid from from Iowa. I think he's
- 3:30Speaker 6: about seven foot eight, about five point fifty three percent
- 3:34Speaker 6: body fat.
- 3:35Speaker 4: So it looked pretty good.
- 3:36Speaker 2: I'm saying easy, Paul Bunyon.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Relaxed, save some of the rest of us.
- 3:41Speaker 6: Man. Jeez, it's a flowing red locks, flowing red mullet too.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Like this guy is who you want?
- 3:48Speaker 6: Like I don't even know his name, don't know anything
- 3:49Speaker 6: about him first round.
- 3:52Speaker 5: He didn't even have to have like his Iowa shorts
- 3:54Speaker 5: on either. It's like, yep, you play for Iowa.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Yeah, he had shorts on. I think crocs too.
- 3:58Speaker 5: Yeah, this is not coold for him. He's one of
- 4:00Speaker 5: the fellas you're talking about his football weather for them?
- 4:03Speaker 4: Is this football weather for them?
- 4:04Speaker 2: Yeah? I don't really know that.
- 4:05Speaker 5: Yesterday's AFC Championship game was football weather.
- 4:08Speaker 2: We'll leave that up to lasses.
- 4:11Speaker 4: I love it.
- 4:12Speaker 6: It's kind of they can't score any points in the snow,
- 4:14Speaker 6: like kind of wimpy.
- 4:16Speaker 2: That's two cold weather teams.
- 4:18Speaker 4: Get your stuff together, dude.
- 4:19Speaker 2: They did not.
- 4:21Speaker 4: They did not.
- 4:21Speaker 2: It was the final thirteen seven. Yeah, the Broncos scored
- 4:26Speaker 2: first drive out.
- 4:27Speaker 6: I think it's ten seven at half right, Yeah, feels right.
- 4:30Speaker 2: I know the Broncos scored like they went down and drove. Yeah,
- 4:33Speaker 2: he hit the big play drive.
- 4:35Speaker 4: They got it.
- 4:36Speaker 6: They scored because both teams went out you know, maybe
- 4:39Speaker 6: not three now, but both teams punted first drive.
- 4:41Speaker 4: Broncos scored on.
- 4:43Speaker 5: Their second possession for like a fifty something yarder and then.
- 4:46Speaker 6: Yeah and Bronco's case stdam gave them, gave them a
- 4:49Speaker 6: possession inside the twenty with a kind of a he
- 4:52Speaker 6: boothed it a little bit, a little lateral. Oh my god,
- 4:55Speaker 6: what was he doing. I don't know, he's trying to
- 4:58Speaker 6: trying to make a play.
- 4:59Speaker 4: I mean, I guess, just out that guy.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I get it, but just take the sack.
- 5:03Speaker 6: He looked good early on, but I was did not
- 5:06Speaker 6: give him the opportunity to watch the second half. I
- 5:08Speaker 6: was enjoying a little father daughter dance yesterday and I
- 5:11Speaker 6: wasn't gonna obviously miss that for anything in the entire world,
- 5:15Speaker 6: and so I didn't didn't care to watch the NFL
- 5:17Speaker 6: game yesterday.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Didn't geared to it.
- 5:18Speaker 4: All. I was dancing. I was to the left, to
- 5:21Speaker 4: the left.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Oh we did the with a cupa shop.
- 5:23Speaker 6: We did a little oh yeah, we're getting down.
- 5:27Speaker 5: Look, I heard you did great, Lacey even said O
- 5:31Speaker 5: wife said you did great. You know if you didn't
- 5:35Speaker 5: do good. She would put him on blasts.
- 5:37Speaker 4: But got together.
- 5:38Speaker 6: They had a little get ready party all the all
- 5:42Speaker 6: the little girls in lower school got together, painted their faces,
- 5:47Speaker 6: had some drinks, had some They had drinks.
- 5:50Speaker 4: Oh it was Shirley Timples.
- 5:51Speaker 6: Okay, said that, Yeah I did.
- 5:53Speaker 4: I kind of said it. I was like, obviously, what
- 5:57Speaker 4: not me water all days? We had a late night
- 6:00Speaker 4: drive last night.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Yeah you did.
- 6:02Speaker 5: You said somebody offered you a cold pop at two
- 6:04Speaker 5: thirty and you said not.
- 6:05Speaker 6: Today today got to get to the senior ball for
- 6:07Speaker 6: the first time.
- 6:09Speaker 2: And you have to drive because you have a baby tummy.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I do.
- 6:12Speaker 6: I'll suffer. I suffer from two things in life. One
- 6:15Speaker 6: is diagnosed squirrels here. The other is camp ride in
- 6:19Speaker 6: a car for five minutes without getting car sick.
- 6:23Speaker 5: Airplanes were good though, We're good on it. Okay, Yeah, yeah,
- 6:27Speaker 5: fair enough, fair enough, all right. So we are going
- 6:30Speaker 5: to be here all week long, and sometimes players will
- 6:34Speaker 5: come in come out like there's no schedule time. As
- 6:36Speaker 5: far as I really even if it is a schedule time,
- 6:39Speaker 5: I've been here.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Enough times to know that that might not be how
- 6:42Speaker 2: it plays out.
- 6:43Speaker 5: But obviously we're gonna get all the LSU players that
- 6:47Speaker 5: are here. I believe the final list has three LSU
- 6:51Speaker 5: players on it.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Is that correct?
- 6:52Speaker 4: We looked at that. That's what I was checking.
- 6:53Speaker 6: So the kind of the list was fluctuating the last
- 6:56Speaker 6: couple of weeks. By the like into last week, I
- 6:59Speaker 6: think we had five, but currently only three players are
- 7:04Speaker 6: set on the roster. I guess this has to be confirmed, right,
- 7:07Speaker 6: So Garrett Nu'smyer, Barry and Brown, Aaron Anderson are the
- 7:10Speaker 6: three LSU Tigers that are at least on the roster
- 7:13Speaker 6: as of right now, you know, late drops, late additions
- 7:17Speaker 6: probably happening up until today.
- 7:20Speaker 5: Right, I'm gonna try to see if we can ask
- 7:22Speaker 5: because Molly Middleton, who's in charge like of all the
- 7:26Speaker 5: PR media stuff, Like, I'll ask her because Jack Pibrin
- 7:28Speaker 5: and aj Halsey with the other names and man, and
- 7:32Speaker 5: it's no respect to Jack Pipern, but I will see
- 7:34Speaker 5: a J Hawsey like, right, that was one of the
- 7:37Speaker 5: players I think I was most excited about, Yeah, was
- 7:39Speaker 5: to have him and to see him.
- 7:40Speaker 6: Yeah, And I don't even know what kind of his
- 7:43Speaker 6: stock is right now, what the what the communication is
- 7:45Speaker 6: about him.
- 7:48Speaker 4: He's played a lot of football, and he's played a
- 7:49Speaker 4: lot of really good football.
- 7:50Speaker 6: Doesn't really have anything to come out here and prove.
- 7:53Speaker 6: I guess everybody really does. You got something to prove.
- 7:57Speaker 6: But I think he's put a lot of game tape
- 7:59Speaker 6: on film that is going to overshadow probably anything that
- 8:03Speaker 6: he could do here currently.
- 8:05Speaker 4: So but of course I would love to see him.
- 8:08Speaker 2: On the phone. Yeah, typically like a guy like aj Halsey,
- 8:10Speaker 2: if you if you get some good news, like some
- 8:14Speaker 2: good grade back, yeah, it's like okay, well you know,
- 8:18Speaker 2: maybe I don't have to go there.
- 8:19Speaker 5: So again, we'll we'll get confirmation on how many LSU
- 8:22Speaker 5: players are actually going to be here, what that final
- 8:25Speaker 5: number is going to be. But very excited to catch
- 8:28Speaker 5: up with Gary ness Meyer. And you mentioned Barryon Brown
- 8:32Speaker 5: and Aaron Anderson. Obviously you're a big fan of his
- 8:35Speaker 5: and kind of what he brings to the table.
- 8:37Speaker 6: I found it interesting this morning just kind of got
- 8:39Speaker 6: the draft stuff. You know, a lot more and more
- 8:41Speaker 6: and more drafts that's going to come every week. I
- 8:42Speaker 6: saw the Nel Kuiper on his list of quarterbacks, said Gartnsmyer,
- 8:45Speaker 6: sitting at four. So a little bit of a surprise
- 8:48Speaker 6: there based on the season and everything, but excited for.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Him and the opportunity.
- 8:52Speaker 6: What an opportunity, golden opportunity for Garrett that's matter this
- 8:55Speaker 6: week here Mobile Alabama.
- 8:56Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I mean he might be one of the
- 8:58Speaker 5: players that I you know, has the biggest opportunity and
- 9:02Speaker 5: can kind of you know, improve his draft stock as
- 9:05Speaker 5: much as anybody.
- 9:06Speaker 2: And I saw just us as LSU people.
- 9:08Speaker 5: Saying that that is talking with Drew Fabiani as the
- 9:10Speaker 5: executive director of the Panini Senior Bowl. So look, we
- 9:14Speaker 5: do have a ton to get to. We're gonna break
- 9:17Speaker 5: early here. Luke Altmeyer, Illinois quarterback, is going to join
- 9:20Speaker 5: us when we come back. So like I said, we'll
- 9:22Speaker 5: have some guests kind of popping in and out. So
- 9:24Speaker 5: we'll have our first guests of the week when we
- 9:27Speaker 5: come back here. It is OTB. We are live from
- 9:30Speaker 5: the Panini Senior Bowl, brought to you by First American
- 9:33Speaker 5: Bank and Trust.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Off the bench.
- 9:38Speaker 5: All right, there is a new star of downtown Baton Rouge,
- 9:41Speaker 5: and that is Bally's Casino and Hotel Baalis at bat
- 9:44Speaker 5: Rouge Casino in Hotel It is brand new. Sure it
- 9:47Speaker 5: got renovated, but everything is new. They did not leave
- 9:51Speaker 5: any stone unturned. They made sure that the entire property
- 9:55Speaker 5: got an upgrade.
- 9:56Speaker 2: So if you're looking for a night.
- 9:58Speaker 5: Out, if you're local and Baton Rouge, if you're looking
- 9:59Speaker 5: for a vacation, or if you're from out of town
- 10:02Speaker 5: and you want to come to an L Shoe sporting event,
- 10:05Speaker 5: whatever the situation. When however, you get to Baton Rouge,
- 10:08Speaker 5: you need to check out the brand new Ballets of
- 10:11Speaker 5: Baton Rouge Casino and hotel.
- 10:12Speaker 6: That's right, Ballets, Ballets, Ballet Vatanuge. We got an absolute
- 10:17Speaker 6: diamond in the rough upgrade over there. Man, They've turned
- 10:19Speaker 6: a once kind of a dormant facility there into a
- 10:22Speaker 6: beautiful pop and let me tell you it is gorgeous.
- 10:25Speaker 4: It is beautiful. It is one.
- 10:26Speaker 6: It is one hundred percent first class, twenty five thousand
- 10:28Speaker 6: square feet game of facility, huge DraftKings sportsbook, a beautiful,
- 10:32Speaker 6: brand new, completely renovated hotel.
- 10:35Speaker 4: Right there, Ballets of Baton Rouge.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Off the bench with Hester and Flynn, live from the
- 10:55Speaker 3: twenty twenty six Panini Senior ball In Mobile presented by
- 10:58Speaker 3: First American Banking Trust.
- 11:02Speaker 2: All right, and welcome back in It is OTB again.
- 11:06Speaker 5: We are live here from the Panini Senior bull tribruck
- 11:09Speaker 5: you by First American Bank and Trust Hester Flynn and
- 11:12Speaker 5: now joined by Luke Altmeyer, quarterback from Illinois.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Luke, we appreciate your time backs hanging out with us, Man.
- 11:18Speaker 7: Yeah, I appreciate you'll having me. Man, it's cool.
- 11:20Speaker 5: Yeah, you said you're training here mobile though, so I'm
- 11:22Speaker 5: just pretty easy commute for you, because we were wondering
- 11:25Speaker 5: like this. It's bad weather all over, certainly like the
- 11:28Speaker 5: southeast portion of the country that doesn't know how to
- 11:30Speaker 5: handle kind of cold, snowy weather.
- 11:32Speaker 2: But for you, I just drove across the bay.
- 11:34Speaker 8: Literally, it was a fifteen minutes. I woke up in
- 11:36Speaker 8: my been, you know, I guess Sunday and drove over
- 11:40Speaker 8: fifteen minutes before telling me all their connecting flights and
- 11:42Speaker 8: canceled flights, and it was I was laid up, chilling
- 11:45Speaker 8: and it.
- 11:46Speaker 7: Just drove over and got a valley park.
- 11:48Speaker 4: So there you go.
- 11:49Speaker 6: So how was the So since the season's over, Like,
- 11:52Speaker 6: what's that schedule been like for you?
- 11:53Speaker 4: Did you go straight into training?
- 11:54Speaker 6: You take a couple of days, but you've been in mobile, right,
- 11:58Speaker 6: but it's it. You do a lot of bet agility
- 12:00Speaker 6: training or is it mostly man, I'm trained to be
- 12:02Speaker 6: the best quarterback.
- 12:03Speaker 7: Yeah, a little bit of both.
- 12:04Speaker 4: You know.
- 12:04Speaker 8: I finished the bowl game, you know, kind of New
- 12:06Speaker 8: Year's around, then took about five days off and hopped
- 12:08Speaker 8: right into it. So and you kind of hit the
- 12:10Speaker 8: ground run and you go right right into to kind
- 12:13Speaker 8: of all encomassing training speed, you know, strength, obviously quarterback training.
- 12:17Speaker 8: So it's a mixture of everything and even kind of
- 12:20Speaker 8: meeting an interview you know prep too, which is probably
- 12:22Speaker 8: the most challenging part because you know, pretty big questions
- 12:25Speaker 8: that you got to answer, which is which is awesome,
- 12:27Speaker 8: But yeah, it's it's it's everything is really challenging and
- 12:30Speaker 8: uncomfortable at times, but you know.
- 12:31Speaker 7: Really really cool and uh so it's it's been good.
- 12:34Speaker 6: Look. I remember when I was training for the combine.
- 12:37Speaker 6: The most random thing we did are the guy that
- 12:39Speaker 6: trainers made us take an improv class, like hacked in
- 12:42Speaker 6: improv class. So we were like ready for any type
- 12:45Speaker 6: of question because because the coaches and scouts are they're
- 12:48Speaker 6: they're a little famous for throwing you oddball questions.
- 12:50Speaker 2: We've been in this process.
- 12:51Speaker 5: Though, a team did get in trouble because they did
- 12:54Speaker 5: cross the line I don't know if you remember that
- 12:56Speaker 5: about questions they were asking. So they've kind of they
- 12:59Speaker 5: fixed it a little, but they can't ask you anything
- 13:01Speaker 5: too wild now, it'll try to get you uncomfortable.
- 13:05Speaker 8: Yeah, I'll be ready for whatever, hopefully, probably need some
- 13:08Speaker 8: improv for sure.
- 13:10Speaker 6: That was a little weird.
- 13:11Speaker 7: Yeah, that's interesting, all right.
- 13:13Speaker 5: So you transfer from ole Miss to Illinois. You get
- 13:16Speaker 5: to Illinois and y'all had some of the most successful
- 13:18Speaker 5: seasons in really the school history. What was it like
- 13:21Speaker 5: for you though, I mean, being from Starville, Mississippi, you
- 13:24Speaker 5: go to Ole Miss and then you go about like
- 13:26Speaker 5: as far away it feels like as you possibly could.
- 13:29Speaker 8: Right, Yeah, it was the first time in my life
- 13:30Speaker 8: that I was getting out of my comfort zone, you know,
- 13:32Speaker 8: kind of you know, holistically, you know, kind of the
- 13:34Speaker 8: big picture. So it was very uncomfortable at the time,
- 13:37Speaker 8: but thank god it was you know, so much growth
- 13:39Speaker 8: and development you know, happened in that time through obstacles
- 13:42Speaker 8: I had to climb over and and uh, you know,
- 13:44Speaker 8: hard times and adversities, but it brought out a lot
- 13:46Speaker 8: of great moments at Illinois. You know, it was so
- 13:48Speaker 8: cool for the community to experience some winning seasons and
- 13:51Speaker 8: you know, sold out the stadium a lot, which hadn't happened,
- 13:53Speaker 8: you know, in a whole long time. So it was
- 13:56Speaker 8: just great to see the fans that were you know,
- 13:57Speaker 8: forty of your season ticket holders coming up to you
- 13:59Speaker 8: and just thanking you just for for bringing good wins
- 14:02Speaker 8: to to Illinois. So it was just such an awesome time.
- 14:05Speaker 8: You know, we're the logo of pride and love. Loved
- 14:07Speaker 8: where I played, loved the system that I was in,
- 14:09Speaker 8: loved the head coach that I've played for. But yeah, uncomfortable,
- 14:12Speaker 8: but man like, uh, you know, thank god that it
- 14:14Speaker 8: was so much character was developed and yeah, and a
- 14:16Speaker 8: lot of just fun football, you know, it was you know,
- 14:19Speaker 8: you know, I loved my teammates, loved the way you're prepared,
- 14:21Speaker 8: and a lot of good things happened.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:23Speaker 6: So you talk about loving your system in college, and
- 14:26Speaker 6: so I'm so interested to watch the quarterbacks of course
- 14:29Speaker 6: this week in practice, because I think there's a there's
- 14:33Speaker 6: a lot of offensive styles that colleges run right now
- 14:37Speaker 6: don't necessarily immediately translate to what the NFL style kind
- 14:40Speaker 6: of is a lot of shotgun clap counts and a
- 14:43Speaker 6: lot if you're not taking a lot of under center snaps.
- 14:45Speaker 6: But we were talking before we jumped on here. You
- 14:48Speaker 6: kind of have the familiarity with that, you have you
- 14:51Speaker 6: do some stuff under center, So like if you if
- 14:53Speaker 6: you have that already in your in your arsenal, that's
- 14:56Speaker 6: a big step up for sure.
- 14:57Speaker 8: I think that's kind of one thing that separates me
- 15:00Speaker 8: going into the week. You know, a little bit I've
- 15:01Speaker 8: played in the Big Ten and then kind of the
- 15:03Speaker 8: kind of the mentality the Big Ten's kind of run
- 15:05Speaker 8: the football, get under center and more of an old
- 15:07Speaker 8: school type of football certainly has transitioned a little bit
- 15:10Speaker 8: to more of a modern spread in the gun and
- 15:12Speaker 8: with your your clap count stuff, which we experienced and
- 15:14Speaker 8: we played with you know a lot, but a lot
- 15:17Speaker 8: of times I was under center, you know, making checks,
- 15:19Speaker 8: making kills and kind of making you know, mic points
- 15:22Speaker 8: and things like that. So like I'm very comfortable with
- 15:24Speaker 8: it under center football. Like and uh, and I'm using
- 15:27Speaker 8: that to my advantage shortly this week, and and I
- 15:29Speaker 8: think it'll show, so I'm excited about it. But yeah, certainly,
- 15:32Speaker 8: you know Big Ten playing that weather more of an old.
- 15:34Speaker 7: School type type of football.
- 15:36Speaker 8: But like, uh, like we were successful with it obviously,
- 15:38Speaker 8: and and it'll translate and I'm very excited for that.
- 15:41Speaker 6: Yeah, it's like the probably the MVP of the NFL.
- 15:44Speaker 6: They were leading personnel this year was thirteen personnel for
- 15:47Speaker 6: the Rams.
- 15:48Speaker 4: So it's a little bit.
- 15:49Speaker 6: Different game than across the country in college. So I'm
- 15:52Speaker 6: excited that that, you know, you have that experience under center,
- 15:55Speaker 6: so we that that's a like I said, that's a
- 15:58Speaker 6: big Like if you're taking us from under the center
- 16:00Speaker 6: for the first time since like eighth grade. Yeah, it's
- 16:02Speaker 6: a it's tough, man, I'll tell you what.
- 16:04Speaker 5: So last year, the group of quarterbacks that was here,
- 16:06Speaker 5: like they had not none of those guys had done
- 16:09Speaker 5: it and they could barely get through practice because they
- 16:12Speaker 5: kept fumbling. They had to stay after every day. So like,
- 16:14Speaker 5: you having that experience, obviously, Luke is gonna be big
- 16:17Speaker 5: for you. Like what do you want though, to get
- 16:19Speaker 5: Like what's the main thing this week that you want
- 16:21Speaker 5: to make sure that you get done? And I'll give
- 16:23Speaker 5: you an example, Like for me when I was here,
- 16:25Speaker 5: i played running back at LSU. But I know it's
- 16:27Speaker 5: gonna pay full back in the NFL. So it's like, hey, Bud,
- 16:29Speaker 5: you got to show that you can do it this week.
- 16:30Speaker 5: So I had like a main goal. What is it
- 16:32Speaker 5: for you that you want to show every scout here
- 16:34Speaker 5: this week?
- 16:34Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't know. Just man, I'm a clean football player.
- 16:37Speaker 7: I'm experienced.
- 16:37Speaker 8: I've seen a lot of I've seen a lot of ball,
- 16:39Speaker 8: and like, uh, I seen all the looks, seen playing
- 16:41Speaker 8: a lot of playing a lot of different systems with
- 16:43Speaker 8: Kevin and you know Brett viel muntn So uh man,
- 16:46Speaker 8: I'm a fishing player, you know. I do the right
- 16:47Speaker 8: things on the field and take care of the football
- 16:49Speaker 8: and and certainly you want to show how strong you
- 16:51Speaker 8: are and and and kind of you can make those
- 16:54Speaker 8: those shows that they make in the NFL.
- 16:56Speaker 7: But like you know, I believe I can.
- 16:57Speaker 8: So I'm not gonna overthink it, man, I'm gonna go
- 16:59Speaker 8: go hack it and play play clean, and play efficient,
- 17:02Speaker 8: you know, and and and say the right things and
- 17:03Speaker 8: do the right things. That's what I've always done how
- 17:05Speaker 8: I've been raised, and so yeah, I'm just gonna enjoy it.
- 17:08Speaker 7: If I enjoy it, I'll be in a good spot.
- 17:10Speaker 8: So but yeah, I'm confident just where I came from
- 17:12Speaker 8: and how it prepared me and just kind of bring
- 17:14Speaker 8: that to it and let them kind of have their assessments.
- 17:16Speaker 7: And I'm gonna compete and.
- 17:17Speaker 8: Keep compete my tail off, and and that's what I
- 17:20Speaker 8: love to do. I love the game, love to prepare,
- 17:22Speaker 8: and so I think it'll put me in a good
- 17:24Speaker 8: spot overall.
- 17:24Speaker 6: Yeah, So speaking of competing, and of course there's gonna
- 17:27Speaker 6: be other quarterbacks here, and it's you're gonna get on
- 17:30Speaker 6: the field. There's gonna be one on one, there's gonna
- 17:32Speaker 6: be individuals, there's gonna be team driills, two minute drills,
- 17:34Speaker 6: they're gonna you know.
- 17:35Speaker 4: The works.
- 17:35Speaker 6: When it comes to practice, Was there is there something
- 17:39Speaker 6: in practice this week? And I'm sure you've watched Singapore
- 17:42Speaker 6: practices like throughout the years, like on NFL Network or
- 17:44Speaker 6: wherever it is. Is there something that you're looking forward
- 17:47Speaker 6: to the most in practice this week?
- 17:48Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 17:49Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 17:49Speaker 8: I think just the team settings for sure. Like that's
- 17:51Speaker 8: that's football, you know, like eleven and eleven. The rest
- 17:54Speaker 8: of it's great and all fun, but like running a
- 17:57Speaker 8: clean operation and communicating and making the right plays like
- 18:00Speaker 8: that's that's kind of like the goal of the game.
- 18:02Speaker 8: So like if I can operate well in those settings
- 18:04Speaker 8: like that's that's that's a win for sure. But yeah,
- 18:06Speaker 8: like when kind of those individual settings, for sure, you
- 18:09Speaker 8: want to kind of showcase yourself.
- 18:10Speaker 6: Now, did they did they prep? Did they send a
- 18:12Speaker 6: playbook or anything to you all a weekend advance or
- 18:15Speaker 6: a couple weeks in advance to start at least familiarizing
- 18:17Speaker 6: a little bit with the terminalised since you got a
- 18:19Speaker 6: call to call the.
- 18:20Speaker 8: Play Yeah, for sure a couple of days before h
- 18:22Speaker 8: coach Scott Tolzan, our coordinator and so he, uh yeah,
- 18:25Speaker 8: we hopped on his zoom Friday and he you know,
- 18:27Speaker 8: he sent over the playbook fairly you know, fairly simple,
- 18:30Speaker 8: you know, with all the rules and stuff like that,
- 18:31Speaker 8: and so yeah, pretty familiar with it, just kind of
- 18:34Speaker 8: with over running and playing under center a little bit.
- 18:37Speaker 8: So I'm excited, all right.
- 18:38Speaker 6: Well, yes, God, so Scott's crazy. So I was teammates
- 18:42Speaker 6: with Scott and Green Bay for a little while and
- 18:43Speaker 6: he's been on the show multiple times, and so it's, uh, Scott's.
- 18:46Speaker 4: A great dude. Man, You're gonna love him.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Yeah, You're gonna enjoy it.
- 18:49Speaker 5: Uh, Luke, you did mention Lane Kiffing there, you did play.
- 18:52Speaker 5: Start your career at ole Miss where a Louisiana kind
- 18:54Speaker 5: of l s U show. So your thoughts on on
- 18:58Speaker 5: Lane Kiffing and maybe how you think he'll do at LSU.
- 19:00Speaker 7: Yeah, I think overall he'll tear it up. And he's
- 19:02Speaker 7: such a good ball coach.
- 19:03Speaker 4: Man.
- 19:03Speaker 8: He's taken Ole Miss to a place they've never been before. Man,
- 19:06Speaker 8: and that's uh, you know, that's all great to him.
- 19:08Speaker 8: You know, I played for him for two years and
- 19:10Speaker 8: just the way he h you know, thinks out of
- 19:12Speaker 8: the box. It's so hard to you know, kind of
- 19:14Speaker 8: pick up a tendency on is like he's he's a
- 19:16Speaker 8: he's as good as he gets from an nexus no
- 19:18Speaker 8: standpoint offensively, you know, the way he plays fast and
- 19:21Speaker 8: kind of like so explosive. So I think he'll tear
- 19:24Speaker 8: it up. Great recruiter obviously, and he'll get good players.
- 19:26Speaker 8: And and thankful for my time there. He taught me
- 19:29Speaker 8: a lot of football, you know, certainly he's a quarterback guy,
- 19:31Speaker 8: and and I was grateful to be able to learn
- 19:33Speaker 8: kind of how to push the ball down the field
- 19:35Speaker 8: a little bit and kind of you know, understand that
- 19:37Speaker 8: side of the game, which was a great, great helpful
- 19:40Speaker 8: tool for me.
- 19:41Speaker 7: You know, it really was. I learned a lot there
- 19:43Speaker 7: at Old.
- 19:43Speaker 6: Miss So speaking of talking about Lane and we just
- 19:49Speaker 6: got through like this crazy like portal window, portal season. Right,
- 19:53Speaker 6: you seem like a pretty down deret guy, guy that
- 19:55Speaker 6: could have played like in our day when you got
- 19:57Speaker 6: a four hundred dollars like a scholarship check every mind.
- 20:00Speaker 6: So how was the whole Niol world because it's it
- 20:03Speaker 6: changes so much as a player trying to navigate that
- 20:06Speaker 6: you had you transferred once, but you were at a
- 20:09Speaker 6: decent amount of time, like, so, how was that when
- 20:11Speaker 6: you go into that as a player trying to figure
- 20:14Speaker 6: out if you're going to do this, You're gonna do that?
- 20:15Speaker 6: Are you going to go into poort you cannihilate? What
- 20:17Speaker 6: was that world?
- 20:18Speaker 2: Like?
- 20:18Speaker 6: How was those conversations with your family?
- 20:21Speaker 4: Did you have an agent? Like?
- 20:22Speaker 6: How did you navigate those waters and just stay focused
- 20:25Speaker 6: on the job at hand.
- 20:26Speaker 8: It's tricky because it's the first time you're experiencing, right,
- 20:30Speaker 8: making a big ad old decisions like that. You know,
- 20:32Speaker 8: with all the money that's being thrown around these days,
- 20:33Speaker 8: and certainly there is you know, there's a lot of
- 20:35Speaker 8: money being thrown around to these kids that are experiencing
- 20:38Speaker 8: that for the first time and their families experiencing that
- 20:40Speaker 8: for the first time, and really these coaches experience for
- 20:43Speaker 8: the first time. So it's all new and and we're
- 20:45Speaker 8: all figuring out at once, and it happens really fast.
- 20:47Speaker 8: So you got to got to make good long term decisions.
- 20:50Speaker 4: You know.
- 20:50Speaker 8: It's easy to make these quick materialistic decisions that you
- 20:53Speaker 8: can grab at, you know, these money that may not
- 20:57Speaker 8: set you set you up long term in the right way.
- 20:59Speaker 8: So I try to do that, you know, in my situation,
- 21:01Speaker 8: setting myself up long term doing the right thing, not
- 21:03Speaker 8: being selfish.
- 21:04Speaker 7: So it's tricky, yeah, it is.
- 21:06Speaker 8: It's it's a lot to be desired for out there, man,
- 21:09Speaker 8: and like, but it's been a blessing, I'll say that
- 21:12Speaker 8: for sure, you know, Like, you know, it's I've tried
- 21:14Speaker 8: to use it in the right way and I think
- 21:16Speaker 8: I have with the people helping me.
- 21:18Speaker 6: So yeah, there's a lot.
- 21:19Speaker 8: Of people helped me with family and agents and help
- 21:21Speaker 8: me make good character decisions and like, and uh, yeah,
- 21:25Speaker 8: it's it's tricky out there, especially with all the tampering
- 21:27Speaker 8: and that's that's a real thing.
- 21:28Speaker 7: So it's a.
- 21:29Speaker 8: It's a crazy world of football and need some probably
- 21:31Speaker 8: some revision, you know. But it's good for US players,
- 21:37Speaker 8: I'll tell you that. Yeah, a lot of blessings, you know,
- 21:39Speaker 8: for sure using them in the right way.
- 21:41Speaker 5: Yeah, we're just a little bitter jealous guyls check. Get
- 21:46Speaker 5: Luke last one before we let you go. You are
- 21:48Speaker 5: from Mississippi. You played in Illinois. Settle a debate between
- 21:52Speaker 5: US football weather. Is it hot human summer days or
- 21:58Speaker 5: is it what we saw in the AFT championship game.
- 22:00Speaker 8: I mean, anybody can play in those high weather games, man, Like,
- 22:03Speaker 8: it's anybody can it's you know, you see the GAFC
- 22:08Speaker 8: game yesterday, like people started struggling that cold weather, and like, right,
- 22:11Speaker 8: you're gonna play in the league and you're gonna play
- 22:13Speaker 8: successful football. You're gonna play in those games, and those
- 22:15Speaker 8: are the that's the difficult ones, right, anybody can play.
- 22:18Speaker 4: It created up North people, for sure.
- 22:21Speaker 2: He played for the Packers. I played for the Chargers.
- 22:23Speaker 5: You can tell you, hey, Luke man, we appreciate the time.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Best of luck and look forward to watching this week.
- 22:30Speaker 6: Yeah, seriously, good luck will be watching. Keep that mindset too,
- 22:33Speaker 6: it'll be it'll press in these meetings of stuff.
- 22:35Speaker 4: Keep that mindset you're gonna do well.
- 22:36Speaker 7: Thanks, man, appreciate it all.
- 22:37Speaker 5: Right, Illinois quarterback Luke Altemyer is good enough to join us.
- 22:41Speaker 5: We know he's got a role. He's probably got four
- 22:43Speaker 5: or five more interviews. He had the early schedule of
- 22:46Speaker 5: interviews here today. We appreciate men. Look forward to watching
- 22:49Speaker 5: you out at practice. And we talked about it. Man,
- 22:52Speaker 5: it's gonna be a good group of quarterbacks out here,
- 22:54Speaker 5: a lot of experienced guys, a lot of guys that
- 22:56Speaker 5: have done it for a long time. And look, he
- 22:59Speaker 5: is somebody that was a part of the Illinois program changing.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Right.
- 23:03Speaker 5: They had their most successful we talk about Indiana and
- 23:06Speaker 5: what they did.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Illinois also was winning games at a.
- 23:08Speaker 5: Higher clip than they ever really have before, and Luke
- 23:11Speaker 5: Altmeyer certainly a big part of that.
- 23:14Speaker 6: Yeah, they've finished the season beating Tennessee, Yeah in the
- 23:18Speaker 6: Liberty Mutual Music City Bowl. So obviously a lot of success.
- 23:21Speaker 6: And uh, man, I don't know, did we just get
- 23:23Speaker 6: spoiled on our first interview? Yeah?
- 23:25Speaker 4: I think so.
- 23:26Speaker 5: I think we did all right. So I think we're
- 23:28Speaker 5: gonna have one more coming up. So we're gonna head
- 23:30Speaker 5: and take a break here and when we come back,
- 23:33Speaker 5: we'll continue the interviews from the twenty twenty six Panini
- 23:36Speaker 5: Senior Bowl in our coverage brought to you by First

- 24:28Speaker 6: you a little differently around the neighborhood because well you
- 24:31Speaker 6: might be the only one with the lights on with
- 24:33Speaker 6: the heater running in my god, do we need it
- 24:36Speaker 6: because it is cold, cold, cold. If you haven't done it,

- 24:42Speaker 3: Today Bench with Hester and Flynn live from the twenty
- 25:05Speaker 3: twenty six Panini Senior Ball and mobile presented it by
- 25:09Speaker 3: First American Bank and Trust.
- 25:14Speaker 5: All right, welcome back in it is OTB. We are
- 25:16Speaker 5: live here from the twenty twenty six Panini Senior Ball
- 25:19Speaker 5: and of course our coverage brought to you by First American.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Bank and Trust.
- 25:22Speaker 5: And I think that Matt Flynn might have scheduled our
- 25:25Speaker 5: interviews here today. We've had two and it's the second
- 25:28Speaker 5: quarterback that we've had here on the show. Cole Payton
- 25:31Speaker 5: at North Dakota State quarterback joins us.
- 25:33Speaker 6: Now there's no reason to talk to any other position.
- 25:36Speaker 4: It's all about moderation.
- 25:37Speaker 6: Always does the fullback.
- 25:39Speaker 4: I want a fullback on the Rosterbud.
- 25:40Speaker 5: There's not one here, but it's okay. We got quarterbacks here.
- 25:43Speaker 6: Cole.
- 25:43Speaker 2: We appreciate your time.
- 25:45Speaker 5: Thanks for hopping on with us and we were talking
- 25:47Speaker 5: a little bit before the show. You're training in Irvine, California. Uh,
- 25:51Speaker 5: so you had to get here probably a little bit
- 25:52Speaker 5: early to beat this crazy weather, right.
- 25:55Speaker 4: That's right.
- 25:56Speaker 9: Yeah, we got in Friday night, so been here a
- 25:58Speaker 9: while now, and it's nice to settle in.
- 26:01Speaker 4: To ease into this week.
- 26:03Speaker 5: Yeah, you can make fun of us down south for
- 26:05Speaker 5: this being crazy weather if you want to.
- 26:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:06Speaker 6: Yeah, Yeah, you're kind of walking into this week with
- 26:09Speaker 6: a big advantage because this is, like you're tell us
- 26:12Speaker 6: before this in cold deal and this is just kind
- 26:13Speaker 6: of normal weather, so you got an advantage.
- 26:15Speaker 9: Yeah, and Fargo, there's two feet of snow on the
- 26:17Speaker 9: ground right now, so.
- 26:21Speaker 4: That's raight.
- 26:22Speaker 2: All right.
- 26:22Speaker 5: So you're coming from North Dakota State and a lot
- 26:25Speaker 5: of times, like if someone was coming from the FCS,
- 26:28Speaker 5: like we would go through the whole small school blah
- 26:30Speaker 5: blah blah. Like for you in North Dakota State, Like,
- 26:33Speaker 5: y'all don't feel that way because I mean, y'all have
- 26:35Speaker 5: gone against multiple FBS schools, y'all have won those games,
- 26:39Speaker 5: y'all won championships, and that's kind of the standard of
- 26:42Speaker 5: what else football program is.
- 26:44Speaker 9: Yeah, there's there's nothing intimidating about you know, coming in
- 26:48Speaker 9: with and competing versus SEC guys, ACC guys, whatever. It
- 26:53Speaker 9: is like we've always had a chip on our shoulder
- 26:55Speaker 9: and and and we're looking to prove that we're the best.
- 26:58Speaker 9: So that's always kind of been the mindset it.
- 27:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:00Speaker 6: Yeah, So how is that? So he's your season ends?
- 27:04Speaker 6: And then what's your schedule been like leading up to
- 27:07Speaker 6: this meal? And I know you're you're probably combined training,
- 27:09Speaker 6: speed and all that stuff from a quarterback standpoint, like,
- 27:13Speaker 6: how are you preparing? Uh preparing? Where are you training at?
- 27:16Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 27:16Speaker 9: So down in IRV, I'm working with a guy by
- 27:19Speaker 9: the named Jake Keaps and so he worked with Will
- 27:23Speaker 9: Howard last year. He helps, you know, he's a high
- 27:26Speaker 9: school football coaching Denver. And so the biggest thing for
- 27:29Speaker 9: us is so obviously throwing a little bit, but interview prep,
- 27:36Speaker 9: you know, getting on the board, hammer me with the
- 27:38Speaker 9: tough questions when we're gonna meet with NFL teams and
- 27:42Speaker 9: then uh, and then and watching a bunch of films
- 27:45Speaker 9: and learning the game and so those are kind of
- 27:48Speaker 9: the biggest things.
- 27:48Speaker 6: Do you have like your plays like kind of prep
- 27:50Speaker 6: because you're gonna get asked like, hey, if you get
- 27:52Speaker 6: cover two, what's your what's your you gotta check, you
- 27:54Speaker 6: gotta cover three.
- 27:55Speaker 4: You have all those plays in your head. These are
- 27:57Speaker 4: what I'm gonna draw exactly exactly what we're doing. That's perfect. Yep,
- 28:01Speaker 4: all right.
- 28:01Speaker 5: So you're a guy who obviously is a dual threat quarterback.
- 28:04Speaker 5: I think you had over one hundred and thirty rushes
- 28:07Speaker 5: on the year. So like where you're in a setting
- 28:09Speaker 5: like this where I guess you have to kind of
- 28:11Speaker 5: wait to the game maybe to kind of show exactly
- 28:13Speaker 5: what you can do in the run game. Like how
- 28:16Speaker 5: do you want to make sure teams see you as like, okay,
- 28:18Speaker 5: I can't maybe run practice, so let me make sure
- 28:20Speaker 5: that I show them the armor. Like how do you
- 28:22Speaker 5: go into it knowing that there's a piece of your
- 28:24Speaker 5: game that you can't fully show until the game.
- 28:26Speaker 9: Yeah, that's a good question. I think it the quarterback position.
- 28:30Speaker 9: There's there's so much to it, and so like, you know,
- 28:33Speaker 9: being a commanding presence in the huddle, understanding my assignment,
- 28:36Speaker 9: understanding everyone else's assignments, and then and then just having
- 28:40Speaker 9: fun and ripping it around the yard. I think this
- 28:42Speaker 9: week will be huge Yeah.
- 28:45Speaker 6: This is something that I'm really curious to talk to
- 28:47Speaker 6: all the quarterbacks this week about. Is there's a there's
- 28:50Speaker 6: a big difference between the style of football in the
- 28:54Speaker 6: NFL from a quarterback position. Then most are a lot
- 28:58Speaker 6: of colleges, there's a lot more under center. There's a
- 29:01Speaker 6: lot we see some of the best NFL offenses are
- 29:03Speaker 6: running thirteen personnel twenty one twelve p like, and most
- 29:06Speaker 6: colleges are, you know, eleven eleven personnel usually and it's not.
- 29:10Speaker 6: So I'm really curious to say, like, how was your
- 29:13Speaker 6: offense in college? Did you do under center? And if not,
- 29:16Speaker 6: if you is that something you're kind of trying to
- 29:18Speaker 6: train right now and doing.
- 29:21Speaker 4: Yeah. So at NSU it was very much a pro style.
- 29:23Speaker 4: That's fantastic.
- 29:24Speaker 2: I have a swear shirt that says fullbacks.
- 29:26Speaker 9: We say, yeah, okay, fantastic. Well, okay, we don't have
- 29:30Speaker 9: fullbacks here. I can call up a few fullbacks from NDSU,
- 29:34Speaker 9: like let's go.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:36Speaker 9: So yeah, you know, I've been fortunate enough to be
- 29:38Speaker 9: immersed in that kind of system and get under center
- 29:41Speaker 9: and run play action and you know, keeper fakes and
- 29:46Speaker 9: do it all, do it all, really make checks as a
- 29:48Speaker 9: line of scrimmage where where we're huddling, and I know
- 29:50Speaker 9: most teams in college don't even huddle, and so right.
- 29:53Speaker 4: I definitely have an advantage. Was this your nap count
- 29:55Speaker 4: and it was not?
- 29:57Speaker 9: Yeah, that's what I'm talking about, so ironically, that was
- 30:00Speaker 9: our silent cadence if it was super loud, but yeah, yeah,
- 30:04Speaker 9: right right, we used the.
- 30:05Speaker 5: Verbal ca that's I mean, it's gonna be a big
- 30:07Speaker 5: advantage for you. We're not We're not joking. We joke
- 30:09Speaker 5: about it a little bit, but it's like form, it
- 30:12Speaker 5: should be commanding to be able to point out the mic,
- 30:14Speaker 5: to be able to, you know, get to the second
- 30:16Speaker 5: play if you've got to kill a play, and to
- 30:18Speaker 5: actually feel confident under the center. I mean, we just
- 30:20Speaker 5: had Luke altmeirown and I was telling him the story
- 30:23Speaker 5: last year the quarterbacks that were here, and some of
- 30:25Speaker 5: those were first rounders, they couldn't practice because they kept
- 30:28Speaker 5: fumbling under the under the center and they had to
- 30:30Speaker 5: stay after every single day of practice and try to
- 30:33Speaker 5: get it. So like you coming in with that being
- 30:35Speaker 5: a part of your offense is a big advantage.
- 30:37Speaker 9: No doubt, no doubt. Yeah, I mean it's a big
- 30:40Speaker 9: reason why. You know, I stayed at NBCU for five
- 30:44Speaker 9: years and and uh and wanted to go there in
- 30:47Speaker 9: the first place because of the not only the success,
- 30:49Speaker 9: but yeah, that pro style effect.
- 30:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:54Speaker 6: Did you grow up a fan of anybody any NFL team?
- 30:57Speaker 9: So, being from Omaha, Nebraska, I grew up on scar
- 31:00Speaker 9: fan okay for for college and there, and then when
- 31:04Speaker 9: it comes to the NFL, I'm embarrassed, man, all right,
- 31:08Speaker 9: Just my dad was.
- 31:09Speaker 4: Going up in the eighties.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Yeah there, yeah, so there you go.
- 31:11Speaker 9: You know, big Walter Payton fans and and uh uh
- 31:15Speaker 9: so yeah, there you go.
- 31:17Speaker 6: You you lose that fandom real quick though. Whenever you
- 31:19Speaker 6: get selected, you hear your name all by somebody else.
- 31:22Speaker 4: I grew up a cow I grew up and tell
- 31:23Speaker 4: you group of cowboys. Cowboys.
- 31:25Speaker 6: After I got was with the Green Bed and I
- 31:27Speaker 6: was like, no, it's not a yeah cowboys, aren't it anymore?
- 31:31Speaker 6: But what what are you looking forward to? Most? So
- 31:32Speaker 6: you're doing all this training, you're at the end of
- 31:35Speaker 6: the day, you're competing against these other quarterbacks. Of course
- 31:37Speaker 6: you're gonna be friends on they're great dudes and everything,
- 31:39Speaker 6: but it's it's called everything you do from here on
- 31:41Speaker 6: outs of competition, right, what are you looking forward to
- 31:44Speaker 6: the most. I'm sure you've watched combine practices before, like
- 31:46Speaker 6: on NFL Network or whatever it is. What are you
- 31:50Speaker 6: looking forward to most in these practices that really show
- 31:52Speaker 6: your skill set?
- 31:54Speaker 9: I think exactly what you said. It's just compete and
- 31:56Speaker 9: eat and show them the best at the end of
- 31:58Speaker 9: the day. Obviously you know, connect with some guys, learn,
- 32:02Speaker 9: learn and grow and improve.
- 32:06Speaker 4: But but compete for sure. Yeah.
- 32:07Speaker 5: Yeah, Did you have any conversations with any of your
- 32:10Speaker 5: former North Dakota State teammates, because there's been a ton
- 32:13Speaker 5: here every year, there's at least one or two that
- 32:16Speaker 5: have come to the game and actually you know, been drafted.
- 32:19Speaker 5: Did you have any conversation with them? Maybe what to
- 32:20Speaker 5: expect this week.
- 32:22Speaker 4: A little bit?
- 32:23Speaker 9: Yeah, So, uh, working or being a teammate of Gray's abels.
- 32:28Speaker 4: You know, Gray was here last year. He's only a
- 32:31Speaker 4: year older than me, and.
- 32:32Speaker 9: So got pretty close with him and the s U
- 32:34Speaker 9: and then so we actually are each also trained in
- 32:37Speaker 9: Irvine at the same with the same agency, and so
- 32:39Speaker 9: we've got a connection there. And so I've been in
- 32:42Speaker 9: contact with Gray about a lot of different things. Yeah,
- 32:45Speaker 9: and so he's been a great help and and been
- 32:47Speaker 9: rooting for him this season.
- 32:48Speaker 4: They've been doing well. Yeah, the Seahawks.
- 32:51Speaker 2: He had a really nice individual seasons.
- 32:53Speaker 4: Yeah, Gray has been a great resource. So the.
- 33:03Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I got distracted by some almost saying coffee
- 33:07Speaker 6: over there.
- 33:07Speaker 4: We had coffee aet this morning.
- 33:09Speaker 5: So you mentioned you grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. We
- 33:12Speaker 5: were talking a little bit beforehand. You've gone to the
- 33:14Speaker 5: College World Series a time or two. Do you have
- 33:17Speaker 5: like maybe like a favorite memory, because I was telling you,
- 33:19Speaker 5: like obviously being LSU related here Omaha is something our
- 33:23Speaker 5: fan base certainly appreciates. Ls She was able to win
- 33:25Speaker 5: it last year in Omahall you got any memories that
- 33:28Speaker 5: stick out of your time growing up going to the
- 33:30Speaker 5: College World Series?
- 33:31Speaker 9: I do, yeah, And this is this is going to
- 33:34Speaker 9: throw it back a little bit. I remember going to
- 33:36Speaker 9: the College World Series before it was at you know,
- 33:39Speaker 9: TD Ameritrade, Charles Schwad Rosenblatz right by the zoo, and
- 33:46Speaker 9: I remember we were sitting in the outfield I think
- 33:48Speaker 9: South Carolina was playing somebody, and we were sitting in
- 33:52Speaker 9: right field and on the first row, and I was
- 33:55Speaker 9: probably ten years old, yeah, and my buddy and I
- 33:58Speaker 9: were messing around. I had a baseball cap on and
- 34:01Speaker 9: it fell onto the field and I remember the right fielder,
- 34:04Speaker 9: I can't remember who it was, came over and like
- 34:07Speaker 9: grabbed my hat and like gave it back to me.
- 34:09Speaker 9: That was the coolest thing ever because I went from
- 34:12Speaker 9: this moment of like total embarrassing. Yeah right, and then
- 34:15Speaker 9: this star right fielder, yeah, you know, grabbing my hat
- 34:18Speaker 9: and so I'll never forget that.
- 34:19Speaker 4: And that was that Rosenblat.
- 34:20Speaker 6: Yeah, it was, you're kind of a big deal.
- 34:22Speaker 2: I wonder if that was when South Carolina won back
- 34:24Speaker 2: to back. I bet it was.
- 34:26Speaker 5: I bet it was doing that run they made, and
- 34:28Speaker 5: I bet it was Jackie Bradley it was.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Is that who?
- 34:30Speaker 4: I think it was Jackie Bradley?
- 34:31Speaker 6: Yeah, yep.
- 34:32Speaker 5: So yeah, it turned out South Carolina big league for
- 34:34Speaker 5: a long time.
- 34:35Speaker 2: So that's cool. That's cool out.
- 34:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:38Speaker 6: Yeah, I feel like I feel like I know. I'm
- 34:41Speaker 6: hoping there's an answer. You're gonna give me this. This
- 34:43Speaker 6: is a question we like to ask. We can't the
- 34:46Speaker 6: old kids now in college we're getting old now. Football movies.
- 34:52Speaker 6: Have you ever seen the movie Varsity Blues?
- 34:54Speaker 2: I have you have.
- 34:55Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm talking about so you're gonna crush this week.
- 34:59Speaker 9: You're gonna slightly crushed. So the first time I saw
- 35:02Speaker 9: that was last year.
- 35:03Speaker 5: Actually okay, all right, and no matter when you saw what,
- 35:06Speaker 5: you've seen it.
- 35:07Speaker 9: So Tim Polisk, our head coach at n E SU,
- 35:10Speaker 9: he threw it on the on the TV and the
- 35:12Speaker 9: buses when we bust down to I think we were
- 35:14Speaker 9: playing South Dakota last year in great movie that was awesome.
- 35:18Speaker 4: Yeah, how bad you'all beat him? All right, crushed up.
- 35:23Speaker 5: We've asked that for a year and a half and
- 35:25Speaker 5: you're the first person to get It's unbelievable. It is
- 35:28Speaker 5: unbelievable the guys that have not seen that movie.
- 35:31Speaker 2: So, uh, you're a okay in our book, we're gonna
- 35:33Speaker 2: be rooting for you. We were before first. Right now,
- 35:38Speaker 2: Hey man, we appreciate your time. Cole, best of luck.
- 35:41Speaker 2: Enjoy this week, man and make you appreciate you luck.
- 35:45Speaker 4: Go crush, thank you, appreciate you guys.
- 35:47Speaker 5: All right, we will step away more O t B
- 35:50Speaker 5: when we come back here, almost said live from the
- 35:52Speaker 5: raising Kine studio. We are out of the studio. We
- 35:54Speaker 5: are boots on the ground. Here at the Panini Senior Bowl.
- 35:57Speaker 5: More cabbage coming your way.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Off the bench, all right, go check.

- 36:11Speaker 5: are well the one of the reasons why we're here.
- 36:14Speaker 5: They are floating this trip for us to be here
- 36:17Speaker 5: at the Panini Senior Ball and you can, you know,
- 36:20Speaker 5: go check them out again online and kind of do
- 36:22Speaker 5: everything at online banking. You can check out all they
- 36:25Speaker 5: can do for you personal business, banking and loans. We
- 36:29Speaker 5: always talk about it, right the decisions are made here
- 36:31Speaker 5: locally in Baton Rouge, not on the north east portion
- 36:35Speaker 5: of the country, not in the West coast, not in
- 36:37Speaker 5: the Midwest.
- 36:37Speaker 2: No, right here locally, and they've been doing it since
- 36:40Speaker 2: nineteen ten, all right.
- 36:42Speaker 5: So you don't do anything for that long, certainly, not
- 36:43Speaker 5: in the banking business that long, unless you're doing things
- 36:45Speaker 5: the right way and you're there for your customers fabt
- 36:48Speaker 5: dot com.
- 37:08Speaker 3: Now back to Off the Bench with Hester and Flynn

- 37:39Speaker 2: All right, you here here, here we go, hang.
- 37:41Speaker 5: Out, cover practice and get QB one throwing finger points
- 37:45Speaker 5: at you.
- 37:45Speaker 4: Uh huh.
- 37:46Speaker 6: Yeah, it happened. It's not gonna won't be the last
- 37:50Speaker 6: time I blacked out a little bit.
- 37:52Speaker 4: I did.
- 37:53Speaker 6: I thought, so somebody, we have had coffee all morning,
- 37:55Speaker 6: so they don't have coffee. Someone yelled over here. I
- 37:59Speaker 6: don't know what they yelled. I thought they held a
- 38:00Speaker 6: coffee and you know me, it's a medical condition. Okay,
- 38:04Speaker 6: I get distracted. I looked over there and I was like, well,
- 38:08Speaker 6: we're still in an interview. And he got done answering
- 38:10Speaker 6: your question, and I was like, I got nothing for
- 38:13Speaker 6: you over there, Bud.
- 38:15Speaker 2: The best part was you like you tried come on.
- 38:19Speaker 4: I was like, come on, improv classes kick in.
- 38:21Speaker 2: It was smoking and you and you were trying to.
- 38:24Speaker 4: Go up said nope. I pointed at me.
- 38:28Speaker 5: I bet that's the first time that Cole has ever
- 38:31Speaker 5: done an interview that the coach said nope and no fingerplis.
- 38:34Speaker 4: I ain't got nothing for you, kid.
- 38:39Speaker 6: I'd already asked him, like some of my you know, questions,
- 38:42Speaker 6: I got written down here, so I didn't want to
- 38:44Speaker 6: like reask like, hey, you know, what are you looking
- 38:46Speaker 6: forward to the most? So I had nothing. We saved
- 38:50Speaker 6: it though. He seen varsity blues. That's true. That's true.
- 38:55Speaker 2: So and then let's see kind of a big did
- 38:57Speaker 2: the research and he.
- 38:58Speaker 5: Said that they be South Dakota fifty one to thirteen
- 39:02Speaker 5: that day.
- 39:04Speaker 4: So they beat him.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Yeah, North Dakota State beat him fifty one thirteen.
- 39:08Speaker 6: We played it a well, South Dakota State, sorry about it.
- 39:12Speaker 6: I love that dude, the coach putting it on. Do
- 39:14Speaker 6: you think he put like the team made for TV version? No,
- 39:18Speaker 6: so they looked they on those like little tiny yeah,
- 39:21Speaker 6: bus on a bus, greyhound TVs. Hey, it's not the
- 39:25Speaker 6: most ideal way to watch varsity blues, but better than nothing.
- 39:29Speaker 2: Yeah, he's seen it, so good for them.
- 39:32Speaker 4: He got excited too, he smiled when I asked that question.
- 39:34Speaker 2: He did, he did.
- 39:36Speaker 5: So We've asked a lot of quarterbacks through media days.
- 39:40Speaker 5: I bet Luke Altmyer's seen it, though he had a
- 39:43Speaker 5: very I've seen varsity blues filter.
- 39:45Speaker 4: Yeah, Well we'll try to catch him. Yeah, when he's walking.
- 39:47Speaker 2: Back through here, have you seen varsity blues?
- 39:50Speaker 4: Yep?
- 39:51Speaker 2: Okay, okay, we're good.
- 39:53Speaker 6: Next we'll report though when we see him, we'll see
- 39:55Speaker 6: him probably running the halls again. We'll get that question answered,
- 40:00Speaker 6: and so I promise you I will not make that
- 40:02Speaker 6: mistake again and forget to ask.
- 40:05Speaker 2: Uh.
- 40:05Speaker 5: So we are going to sow our plan here this
- 40:08Speaker 5: week is too obviously, as we mentioned in the first segment,
- 40:10Speaker 5: catch up with every LSU player, but also we wanted
- 40:14Speaker 5: to catch up with every quarterback as well. So we've
- 40:17Speaker 5: got two of those guys that we had a conversation with,
- 40:20Speaker 5: Luke Altmeyer from Illinois and Cole Payton there from NDSU.
- 40:25Speaker 5: But if we go back to Luke Altmeyer, he did
- 40:28Speaker 5: mention Lane Kiffin and gave a pretty good endorsement there
- 40:32Speaker 5: of his time with Lane Kiffin. And just so you're wondering,
- 40:35Speaker 5: we also talked you know, off air, and it was
- 40:37Speaker 5: the same thing.
- 40:38Speaker 2: So that was a genuine.
- 40:40Speaker 6: You know, quick did not give him a script, We did.
- 40:42Speaker 5: Not, but yeah, he said like off airs, like, yeah,
- 40:47Speaker 5: he's going to crush it there. Yeah, it's like that
- 40:49Speaker 5: guy with quarterbacks in his offense. And how he teaches quarterbacks.
- 40:52Speaker 5: And so you know, I don't know that every old
- 40:55Speaker 5: miss player here that we interview, if we end up
- 40:58Speaker 5: talking with him, will you know, just because they probably
- 41:00Speaker 5: you're still heard whatever feel to.
- 41:01Speaker 2: Burn, that's somebody that's been removed from it.
- 41:03Speaker 5: And talked about his appreciation for what Lane Kip has
- 41:06Speaker 5: done in his career.
- 41:08Speaker 6: Yeah, and I think it's pretty common. Like the what
- 41:12Speaker 6: he thought he talked about Lane was pretty common. It's
- 41:14Speaker 6: like when I asked, anybody we talked to says the
- 41:17Speaker 6: same thing. He's a really great coach. He's a really
- 41:19Speaker 6: great coach. He's you know, you know, off the field,
- 41:23Speaker 6: not like your normal person coach whatever it is, but
- 41:27Speaker 6: like a great coach. And we've seen it everywhere he's been,
- 41:31Speaker 6: the development of quarterbacks that he's seen.
- 41:33Speaker 4: And you know, we were.
- 41:35Speaker 6: Talking to a former quarterback of his who obviously went
- 41:37Speaker 6: on to another school and had a lot of success.
- 41:39Speaker 6: And Luc Almer is here at the Senior Bowl. And
- 41:43Speaker 6: I like Luke a lot. I like Cole lot too.
- 41:45Speaker 6: These two guys just from a personality standpoint, different certainly
- 41:49Speaker 6: different personalities. I felt like me and Luc a little
- 41:51Speaker 6: kindred spirits a little bit. Yeah, Cole seemed like a tough,
- 41:54Speaker 6: nasty like he looked like, I'm not here to make friends,
- 41:58Speaker 6: I'm here to.
- 41:58Speaker 4: Whip your ass. Yeah that's what that's what he looked.
- 42:01Speaker 4: That's how. That's the ore that I got from.
- 42:02Speaker 6: So excited to see both those guys. And you know,
- 42:06Speaker 6: I've heard the name Luke Altmeyer a little bit more
- 42:08Speaker 6: than Cole Payton like, but I'm excited to see both
- 42:11Speaker 6: of these guys compete.
- 42:12Speaker 4: I like it.
- 42:13Speaker 6: And shockingly, the first two quarterbacks that we've talked to
- 42:17Speaker 6: said they have a lot of experience under center. Yeah
- 42:19Speaker 6: that is that's that's not normal for college football this day.
- 42:23Speaker 2: It is no Cole Payton being from nd s U.
- 42:27Speaker 6: Yep, I wish I.
- 42:28Speaker 5: Would have done that a little bit more. Oh dude,
- 42:30Speaker 5: they will run multiple fullbacks. In last year or two
- 42:33Speaker 5: years ago, they had to play where they had four
- 42:35Speaker 5: fullbacks in on the goal line.
- 42:37Speaker 6: Was that person?
- 42:40Speaker 2: So they're not afraid to run a full back.
- 42:43Speaker 5: So yeah, I mean, honestly, he's going to have an
- 42:46Speaker 5: advantage Like guys that you really think about, like you
- 42:49Speaker 5: master your craft, you know, you think so being a
- 42:52Speaker 5: college football player, even though you have no idea what's
- 42:54Speaker 5: to come, but you think you're a master of it,
- 42:56Speaker 5: and all of a suddenly like, oh no, see, we don't.
- 42:58Speaker 5: We don't do that here, right, We'll do some of
- 43:00Speaker 5: it a little bit like on you know, sub downs.
- 43:03Speaker 5: We'll do some of that, but for the most part,
- 43:05Speaker 5: you're actually going to completely change.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Like that draft that you used to take. No, that's out.
- 43:10Speaker 2: That's a little clap that.
- 43:12Speaker 4: Let me tell you that. He so when I asked
- 43:17Speaker 4: Cole just now.
- 43:18Speaker 6: If this was clap if this was a snapcount, and
- 43:20Speaker 6: I clapped, and he laughed and like a negative, like
- 43:23Speaker 6: disparaging way towards the clap count. I hope, I hope
- 43:28Speaker 6: he has a fifty year NFL career because of that.
- 43:30Speaker 6: Like I became a fan of his because he laughed
- 43:32Speaker 6: at the clap count. Because Elis, he's gonna do it
- 43:35Speaker 6: next year. I got it. But and this saiden just
- 43:39Speaker 6: about Elis. It's about everybody. The clap count is dumb,
- 43:42Speaker 6: and it's the worst. Then I don't understand the point
- 43:45Speaker 6: of it. Anyway, That's okay. We are on a mission
- 43:50Speaker 6: to make sure everybody knows it.
- 43:51Speaker 4: We're gonna tell him. Let the people know and.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Got like Colpayton's gonna do well, I think this week
- 43:55Speaker 2: because of it. While we have some time, want to.
- 44:00Speaker 5: Remind you that it's gonna be three LSU players here.
- 44:03Speaker 5: I'm trying to look for anybody, see if we can
- 44:06Speaker 5: get any third well that too, aj Halsey and Jack
- 44:10Speaker 5: Pyburn and why they're not here. But we are gonna
- 44:12Speaker 5: catch up with all three LSU players during this week.
- 44:16Speaker 5: And again it's gonna be kind of interview here, interview there,
- 44:18Speaker 5: and you don't really know when you're gonna have one, so.
- 44:23Speaker 2: From segment to segment, Flynn, Yeah.
- 44:25Speaker 4: We're just gonna be bouncing around. Ready, dude.
- 44:28Speaker 6: It's kind of weird when you're when they come up
- 44:31Speaker 6: to the table and clearly they don't know us, we
- 44:35Speaker 6: don't know them, and I'm sitting here googling them right there.
- 44:37Speaker 6: I got like their Wikipedia page up and they're just
- 44:40Speaker 6: staring at it, and I'm like, yeah, that's me trying
- 44:43Speaker 6: to learn who you.
- 44:43Speaker 4: Are real quick.
- 44:44Speaker 2: In the next thirty you just pull up.
- 44:47Speaker 4: Well I started doing it that, I just put it down.
- 44:49Speaker 6: I just did it on my phone, but then it
- 44:50Speaker 6: looked like I was texting in front of him.
- 44:52Speaker 4: I didn't want to be rude.
- 44:54Speaker 2: Uh, it's okay.
- 44:56Speaker 5: I'd looked, if you're doing a deep dive in the
- 44:58Speaker 5: NDSU football, you're Sico like me.
- 45:01Speaker 4: Yeah, I know.
- 45:02Speaker 6: So for forty one personnel, So what you said running backs.
- 45:08Speaker 5: Well yeah, because it was no running backs. It was
- 45:10Speaker 5: all fullbacks on one tight end. So yeah, forty one
- 45:13Speaker 5: the way the Good Lord intended. H Cole Payton last
- 45:16Speaker 5: year did throw for twenty seven hundred yards, completed seventy
- 45:19Speaker 5: two percent of his passes. Now, he only had sixteen
- 45:21Speaker 5: touchdowns four interceptions, but he also ran for seven hundred
- 45:24Speaker 5: and seventy seven yards thirteen touchdowns on.
- 45:27Speaker 6: The ground seven hundred yards.
- 45:29Speaker 5: Yeah, that's taken sackyard age away as well in college football.
- 45:33Speaker 5: So he took twenty two sacks minus one hundred and
- 45:35Speaker 5: twenty four yards.
- 45:36Speaker 2: So we're talking.
- 45:37Speaker 5: About basically a nine hundred yard rusher in college. So
- 45:42Speaker 5: I did like his answer for you know, cause you
- 45:45Speaker 5: can't show the entire skill set here when you're a
- 45:47Speaker 5: dual threat quarterback, Like you're not gonna go out there
- 45:50Speaker 5: and run Q power practice and if you do, it's
- 45:52Speaker 5: tag off and you're not gonna be able to So
- 45:54Speaker 5: he like you realized that, and he's like, hey, I
- 45:55Speaker 5: want to go spin it around. I want to go
- 45:57Speaker 5: show like I think they know I can run the football.
- 45:59Speaker 5: I need to go show that I can do it
- 46:00Speaker 5: with my RM.
- 46:01Speaker 6: So, yeah, there's always something that these these quarterbacks. That's
- 46:06Speaker 6: why I'm asking, I'm like, what are you looking forward
- 46:08Speaker 6: to most? Because there's if you if you want to
- 46:11Speaker 6: show that you can spend it, then there's times to
- 46:13Speaker 6: do that. There's one on one, there's individual drills, seven
- 46:16Speaker 6: on seven, so there's always different drills that As a quarterback,
- 46:19Speaker 6: I always used to love seven on sevens. All quarterbacks
- 46:22Speaker 6: do one on one. It's fantastic. It's awesome to watch
- 46:26Speaker 6: from a quarterback and corner standpoint. Uh, corner and receiver standpoint.
- 46:30Speaker 6: But it's a huge deal for the quarterback as well.
- 46:34Speaker 6: Throwing guys open, it's a great time to show that
- 46:36Speaker 6: you got like the back shoulder throw in your repertoire,
- 46:38Speaker 6: the low and a way shoulder, the high ball, the throat.
- 46:40Speaker 6: It's only where your guy can get it type guy
- 46:42Speaker 6: because you're gonna get covered off the bench.
