- 0:39Speaker 4: Zone eleven fifty ninety three point seven Friday, another Friday afternoon.
- 0:47Speaker 4: So we get ready to go into what actually should
- 0:50Speaker 4: not be such a hot and scorching weekend from what
- 0:52Speaker 4: I have seen, which is certainly a welcome change around here.
- 0:55Speaker 5: Yeah, it's almost supposed to be like eighty five.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I know, right. Let me let me turn this
- 0:59Speaker 4: fan down. I can already hear it coming through the headphones.
- 1:01Speaker 4: I don't want that to be blasting out through these speakers.
- 1:04Speaker 4: Here we go. That's better, all right? So, yeah, it
- 1:07Speaker 4: is Chip Howard Sports Talk obviously, as you are so
- 1:10Speaker 4: accustomed to knowing by now, I am not Chip Howard.
- 1:13Speaker 4: That is not Will either though. That other voice that
- 1:15Speaker 4: you just heard there Caleb, Howdy, folks, welcome back. You
- 1:19Speaker 4: were on the mic with me a couple of weeks ago. Yep,
- 1:21Speaker 4: so Will is Will is out this week, So Caleb
- 1:25Speaker 4: is filling in so kindly, so graciously for Will. Of course,
- 1:29Speaker 4: I'm sure Will is somewhere listening right now, though, as
- 1:32Speaker 4: he usually does when he's not here. It's quite possible
- 1:35Speaker 4: matter if I felt my phone buzz in my pocket,
- 1:37Speaker 4: he may be texting me already. I don't know. Well,
- 1:39Speaker 4: we'll find out later. We have a pretty good show
- 1:42Speaker 4: lined up for you today. Of course, Kirk Bowles is back,
- 1:46Speaker 4: so we'll be hearing from him in just a little bit,
- 1:49Speaker 4: and then in the five o'clock hour, Tony Catalini or
- 1:52Speaker 4: Catalina excuse me, also joins Chip now, so we'll be
- 1:56Speaker 4: hearing from him in the five o'clock hour, and then
- 1:58Speaker 4: of course we're going to hit on some other stuff.
- 2:01Speaker 4: Of course, it's a big weekend for college football Week
- 2:04Speaker 4: number two A and M got Utah State coming into town,
- 2:08Speaker 4: so we're gonna be talking about that game, as well
- 2:10Speaker 4: as picking and kind of talking about some of the
- 2:13Speaker 4: other big games of this coming weekend. Major League Baseball.
- 2:17Speaker 4: We'll hit on some of that news as well. The
- 2:18Speaker 4: NFL opened their regular season last night. The Cowboys and
- 2:23Speaker 4: Eagles squared off. That was a game that Philadelphia won
- 2:27Speaker 4: after a one hour long rain delay lightning delay. So
- 2:30Speaker 4: we'll hit on some NFL stuff later. And then, of
- 2:33Speaker 4: course Will would kill me if we did not do
- 2:36Speaker 4: the police reports, so that will be happening as the
- 2:39Speaker 4: final segment of the show. Yeah, for the end of
- 2:42Speaker 4: the five o'clock hour, So yes, that will still be happening.
- 2:45Speaker 4: Just because Will is not here does not mean we
- 2:47Speaker 4: are going to forego the police reports. Cannot have that anyways. Kleb,
- 2:54Speaker 4: how you been man, Well, it's you know where you
- 2:57Speaker 4: start school? Yeah, you started up school since we spoke
- 3:00Speaker 4: on here. Yeah, last week was a nightmare just trying
- 3:03Speaker 4: to get places. You know, campus is always crazy that
- 3:05Speaker 4: first week with all the freshmen not knowing where they're
- 3:07Speaker 4: going and everybody trying to take the bus. And it's
- 3:10Speaker 4: good to have the student perspective in hereah, because obviously
- 3:12Speaker 4: neither Will nor I are students at Texas A and
- 3:15Speaker 4: M right now.
- 3:15Speaker 5: Or even well will win here. But that was a
- 3:18Speaker 5: long you went to that school, that one other school
- 3:20Speaker 5: we don't talk about.
- 3:21Speaker 4: Oh, come on, you make it sound like we can
- 3:23Speaker 4: talk about you know, it sounds like I'm a long
- 3:25Speaker 4: form when you say that. Don't put that stigma on me.
- 3:29Speaker 5: Might you might be found in a ditch somewhere people
- 3:32Speaker 5: thought you went it to you.
- 3:33Speaker 4: And look, you know, University of Houston has Connor Wigman. Now, okay,
- 3:37Speaker 4: so people in this town still love Connor.
- 3:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm not a U of h hader. It was
- 3:41Speaker 5: one of my one of my schools that I almost
- 3:44Speaker 5: went to.
- 3:44Speaker 6: I was.
- 3:44Speaker 4: I was actually down there on the U of H
- 3:46Speaker 4: campus over the weekend. They have like the big cardboard
- 3:50Speaker 4: like cutouts of Connor Wigman in the nice campus bookstore. Now,
- 3:52Speaker 4: I was like, hey, I know that guy.
- 3:54Speaker 5: I saw some videos of him in preseason camp. He
- 3:56Speaker 5: looks a lot skinnier, like I think he's going to
- 3:58Speaker 5: be a little more mobile this year.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Well, he's he already played one game against the FCS
- 4:02Speaker 4: team last week. He's got rice this weekend, which is
- 4:06Speaker 4: it's a step up from SFA. But it's it's Rice,
- 4:09Speaker 4: So if he doesn't win that game, then that would
- 4:13Speaker 4: be definitely cause for alarm bells sure down there in Houston.
- 4:16Speaker 4: But I'm looking forward to watching that as a Houston fan.
- 4:19Speaker 4: You were at the A and M game opener last
- 4:22Speaker 4: weekend against UTSA.
- 4:23Speaker 5: I've been to every A and M home game since
- 4:25Speaker 5: I became a student, and I look, I'm gonna try
- 4:28Speaker 5: to keep that streak up. But atmosphere, you know, it's
- 4:32Speaker 5: it's Kyle Field, so it's always going to be pretty great.
- 4:34Speaker 5: But I do think that the student section wasn't quite
- 4:38Speaker 5: as loud as I was expecting it to be. Now,
- 4:40Speaker 5: maybe that's just because it was UTSA and not like
- 4:43Speaker 5: a premiere opponent.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Well it's Utah State this weekend. Yeah, but it was
- 4:46Speaker 4: the only thing.
- 4:46Speaker 5: What what puzzled me was that it was a night game,
- 4:48Speaker 5: Like if it was A like this week, I'm not
- 4:50Speaker 5: expecting any yah, any crazy environment because it's a morning game.
- 4:54Speaker 4: It's eleven, you know, it's I think it's supposed to
- 4:57Speaker 4: be cloudy tomorrow, Like we were saying at the start
- 4:59Speaker 4: of the show, I think that the highest tomorrow is
- 5:01Speaker 4: like only eighty six or something, so it's gonna be
- 5:03Speaker 4: a pretty for all things considered, early September game, really
- 5:07Speaker 4: about as best you could ask for weatherwise, I agree tomorrow,
- 5:10Speaker 4: so I'm sure it will be nice to not sweat
- 5:12Speaker 4: your absolute pants off, you know, out there watching that game.
- 5:15Speaker 4: But you're gonna be there, right, I'm.
- 5:16Speaker 5: Absolutely, of course. Yeah, I'll be on second deck this
- 5:19Speaker 5: this week instead of third like it was last week.
- 5:21Speaker 4: All right.
- 5:21Speaker 5: Online ticket pool has been interesting.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Yeah, how has that been working? With the whole online
- 5:25Speaker 4: thing that they just moved to this year?
- 5:26Speaker 5: Well, it hasn't crashed yet. Okay, I was fully expecting
- 5:29Speaker 5: it to do on the first day. I mean that's
- 5:31Speaker 5: a good thing. Yeah, but it's been honestly pretty easy
- 5:34Speaker 5: to use. The only thing I don't like about it
- 5:35Speaker 5: is that they don't tell you what tickets you're getting
- 5:37Speaker 5: until Friday before the game. Oh really, you know, you
- 5:40Speaker 5: pull like a week and a half before the game.
- 5:42Speaker 5: So that's a little weird to me. But I mean
- 5:44Speaker 5: doesn't change what tickets you're getting, so it doesn't really matter.
- 5:47Speaker 4: Yeah, you just don't know until the day before. Oh well,
- 5:51Speaker 4: I still think it's a good change, you know, that
- 5:53Speaker 4: needed to happen after what happened.
- 5:55Speaker 5: Overall, it's a good change.
- 5:56Speaker 4: With that Texas game. You know, it's funny, you know,
- 5:59Speaker 4: speaking of the twelfth Man, and this is kind of
- 6:00Speaker 4: just college football fans in general. I saw because you know,
- 6:03Speaker 4: I do my show over on Candy, which is in
- 6:06Speaker 4: our sister station here during the day, and I saw.
- 6:08Speaker 4: One of the things that they had in our show
- 6:10Speaker 4: prep was the things that college football fans would be
- 6:14Speaker 4: willing to miss in order to make sure that they
- 6:16Speaker 4: made it to their favorite team's rivalry game. And literally
- 6:19Speaker 4: the top thing on there was that they would skip
- 6:20Speaker 4: out on their friend's wedding to go to their favorite
- 6:23Speaker 4: team's rivalry game.
- 6:25Speaker 5: Well, I'm going to be missing my cousin's wedding. So
- 6:28Speaker 5: oh really, this is an actual thing that's happening.
- 6:29Speaker 4: And when is that wedding.
- 6:31Speaker 5: That's in a later this month?
- 6:33Speaker 4: Oh okay, later this month. I was about to say,
- 6:34Speaker 4: I thought you were going to say, like Black Friday
- 6:36Speaker 4: and I'll be in Austin. No, no, oh man, But
- 6:40Speaker 4: you know what, I completely believe it. Yeah, college football
- 6:43Speaker 4: fans are loyal.
- 6:44Speaker 6: Man.
- 6:44Speaker 5: I'm actually having to work that day. It's not just that.
- 6:47Speaker 4: I Okay, so you have a good excuse. Well, football aside,
- 6:51Speaker 4: there's another big thing that's happening this weekend, and that
- 6:53Speaker 4: is a one point seven billion dollar powerball jackpot, which
- 6:57Speaker 4: is a lot of money.
- 6:58Speaker 5: We heard about that, and that's not something that's usually
- 7:00Speaker 5: in my brain, but I have heard about people talking
- 7:02Speaker 5: about power ball.
- 7:03Speaker 4: When the jackpot gets this big, everybody hears about it.
- 7:06Speaker 4: I think I read that this is the third largest
- 7:09Speaker 4: one in the history of the US. Really, yeah, so
- 7:13Speaker 4: it is up there. The drawing is tomorrow night. Now.
- 7:17Speaker 4: I bring this up because I also saw this in
- 7:20Speaker 4: my show prep for my other show, that people have
- 7:23Speaker 4: actually done some digging as to try and give themselves
- 7:26Speaker 4: an edge on getting that winning ticket. And they looked
- 7:29Speaker 4: over the last ten years of powerball drawings and found
- 7:33Speaker 4: the most common number, the least common number, and then
- 7:37Speaker 4: they found the number that is currently most overdue to hit.
- 7:42Speaker 4: So what they found is that sixty one is the
- 7:45Speaker 4: most common number that has been drawn for the power
- 7:47Speaker 4: ball over the last ten years. Okay, thirteen is the
- 7:50Speaker 4: least common number to be drawn. And then they say
- 7:53Speaker 4: the most overdue number to hit right now is twenty
- 7:56Speaker 4: six because that has not been drawn since the month
- 7:59Speaker 4: of April.
- 8:01Speaker 5: Huh, so that's how many numbers are in the power
- 8:03Speaker 5: ball again, I think it's like eight. I think it's.
- 8:08Speaker 4: Five numbers, and then maybe there's I believe it's five numbers,
- 8:13Speaker 4: and then maybe there's like a bonus number or something.
- 8:15Speaker 4: I don't play the lottery. I buy these tickets when
- 8:18Speaker 4: we have jackpots like this, like I probably will buy
- 8:20Speaker 4: one for this. The last one I bought was the
- 8:22Speaker 4: last time we had a jackpot this big. Sure, So
- 8:24Speaker 4: I am no powerball expert, but I know it's like
- 8:26Speaker 4: five numbers. I don't know if maybe it's the Mega
- 8:28Speaker 4: millions that has the bonus number or something, but yeah,
- 8:32Speaker 4: if you get all the numbers right, obviously, then you
- 8:33Speaker 4: win that Giants jackpot.
- 8:35Speaker 5: No, I know, I know a little bit of how
- 8:36Speaker 5: it works. I just the you were talking about the
- 8:39Speaker 5: least common numbers. I thought you were about to say,
- 8:40Speaker 5: like the full string of them, and then well, somebody
- 8:43Speaker 5: that makes a lot more sense.
- 8:44Speaker 4: Somebody in Houston, I believe, did win two million on
- 8:48Speaker 4: the drawing on Wednesday. Somebody from somewhere in the Houston area.
- 8:51Speaker 4: I don't still life changing money. I seriously like I'd
- 8:54Speaker 4: gladly take two million. I mean, I don't know if
- 8:57Speaker 4: it's on here, but I think what I read is,
- 8:59Speaker 4: even if you win this one point point seven, it's
- 9:00Speaker 4: so big. If you take the lump sum, you get
- 9:02Speaker 4: like seven hundred million of that, so like a billion
- 9:04Speaker 4: of it you don't even get. But still, I mean,
- 9:06Speaker 4: he's gonna seven hundred million is Still'm sorry?
- 9:08Speaker 5: Why wouldn't you do the I don't get people that
- 9:10Speaker 5: don't do the lump sum.
- 9:12Speaker 4: See, Okay, here's my view, you know, on it. I
- 9:16Speaker 4: have always said that I would actually do the payments
- 9:19Speaker 4: over time, okay. And my reasoning behind that was, for one,
- 9:23Speaker 4: because I was young and confident that I would still
- 9:25Speaker 4: be alive by the time the last payment came through.
- 9:27Speaker 4: And as I get older, you know, it's like, okay,
- 9:29Speaker 4: well maybe the lump sum doesn't sound so bad. But secondly,
- 9:32Speaker 4: I was always of the opinion that if I took
- 9:34Speaker 4: the lump sum, I would just blow it all on
- 9:36Speaker 4: some crazy stuff, and this way I'd be able to
- 9:39Speaker 4: like pace myself. And you know, oh I just blew
- 9:41Speaker 4: my first lump sum. Oh well, I have another one
- 9:43Speaker 4: coming next month. So I think.
- 9:46Speaker 5: If inflation keeps going the way it is, you can't really,
- 9:48Speaker 5: I wouldn't want to do the payments thing because you're
- 9:50Speaker 5: not getting as much money as you would have, like
- 9:52Speaker 5: if you get it all now.
- 9:53Speaker 4: I mean yes, but when you do the payments in
- 9:56Speaker 4: the end, you get more of the jackpots, So maybe
- 9:58Speaker 4: it wouldn't even out.
- 9:59Speaker 5: I don't know, but I don't know. Depends on how
- 10:01Speaker 5: it depends on if the inflation rate decreases increases. You know, Yeah,
- 10:05Speaker 5: if you invest half of what you just that is,
- 10:08Speaker 5: you still have three hundred and fifty million dollars to
- 10:11Speaker 5: mess around with.
- 10:11Speaker 4: That is true, Like, that's still so much money invested.
- 10:14Speaker 4: You could take that and just put it into like
- 10:15Speaker 4: a high yield savings account. That's what I'm literally just
- 10:17Speaker 4: spread free money every month for the rest of your
- 10:20Speaker 4: life that you would never have to work a day again.
- 10:23Speaker 5: And three hundred million dollars is still so much money
- 10:26Speaker 5: to mess around with.
- 10:27Speaker 4: It is an insane amount of money. I don't even
- 10:29Speaker 4: know what IM talk to. I don't know what I
- 10:31Speaker 4: would do with all of that money.
- 10:33Speaker 5: You know, it's in that weird area where you can't
- 10:35Speaker 5: actually like buy a sports team, right, but you can
- 10:38Speaker 5: buy like eighty cars.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Okay, I wouldn't want to buy a sports team. I
- 10:42Speaker 4: like watching, I would not want to own one if
- 10:45Speaker 4: I had.
- 10:46Speaker 5: If I won the amount of money it takes to
- 10:48Speaker 5: buy a sports team, I would buy a sports team
- 10:50Speaker 5: for sure.
- 10:51Speaker 4: I mean, I will not fault you for that. It's
- 10:53Speaker 4: it's not my cup of tea. But I wouldn't fault
- 10:55Speaker 4: anybody that would want to do that either. Anyways, we
- 10:59Speaker 4: got to get to final line up and Kirk Bowls,
- 11:02Speaker 4: so let's get into that and then we'll come back
- 11:04Speaker 4: out on the other side of.
- 11:05Speaker 7: That inco Insurance is now a part of Hub International,

- 11:40Speaker 9: set up for Worldwide Technology Raceway Race number twenty eight
- 11:43Speaker 9: of thirty six on a one point twenty five mile
- 11:46Speaker 9: paved asphalt oval, not much banking, only up to eleven degrees.
- 11:50Speaker 9: Cup race is two hundred and forty laps or three
- 11:52Speaker 9: hundred miles stages when at forty five, ninety five and
- 11:56Speaker 9: one hundred. Last year's full citter was Michael McDowell and
- 11:59Speaker 9: last year's winner he's right here, Austin Sendric Saint Louis.
- 12:04Speaker 10: I'm sure most probably look at that as kind of
- 12:06Speaker 10: their best opportunity for a base hit. It's not a
- 12:10Speaker 10: very normal race track, but you could look at it
- 12:12Speaker 10: and think, Okay, you know there's Darlington and Bristol, you know,
- 12:17Speaker 10: this is the only one that's not crazy. So I
- 12:20Speaker 10: think it's best to not be able to put yourself
- 12:22Speaker 10: in a position to where that race has to be
- 12:24Speaker 10: incredibly important, have any motivation or reason to change my
- 12:28Speaker 10: approach just because it's playoffs, you know, I think I
- 12:32Speaker 10: think our group kind of has our process really well
- 12:34Speaker 10: dialed in, especially this year compared to last. And you know,
- 12:38Speaker 10: I think I think that mentality for execution is going
- 12:40Speaker 10: to be incredibly important.
- 12:42Speaker 6: You know.
- 12:42Speaker 10: Weaknesses. I mean, look, it's a it's a difficult series,
- 12:45Speaker 10: but I don't. I don't think there's like a standout
- 12:46Speaker 10: weakness other than you know, have we have you gone
- 12:48Speaker 10: out and dominated races this year?
- 12:50Speaker 11: No?
- 12:50Speaker 3: Okay?
- 12:51Speaker 9: Race number two of the twenty twenty five Cup Series

- 14:37Speaker 1: on over there?
- 14:39Speaker 14: The sky's falling?

- 14:42Speaker 14: What's going on? The greatest team ever assembled? You can
- 14:47Speaker 14: score only one touch down and gets shut out for
- 14:50Speaker 14: fifty six minutes. Come on, I mean, could everybody be wrong?
- 14:57Speaker 1: I mean, apparently was.
- 15:00Speaker 14: I was astounded by two things, mostly uh sparks play calling, yep,
- 15:07Speaker 14: very conservative, arch Manning's nervousness. You remember I asked, do
- 15:12Speaker 14: you get nervous? No to you, I wasn't nervous Saturday. Yeah,
- 15:17Speaker 14: but boy did arch look rattled from the very it go?
- 15:22Speaker 1: Yes he did.
- 15:24Speaker 14: I don't understand that. I mean that first path he
- 15:28Speaker 14: bounced in front of the wide open Deandrey Morre. He
- 15:32Speaker 14: hits that he may run twenty yards.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Rumors afterward that he had a shoulder issue. As has
- 15:39Speaker 1: any of that been talked about?
- 15:41Speaker 14: It confirmed, not confirmed, that everybody denies it. Nobody has
- 15:45Speaker 14: said he's had a shoulder and treat everybody that I've
- 15:49Speaker 14: checked with, huh. You know, nobody says that to me.
- 15:54Speaker 14: Kind of letting off the hook. And here's the interesting premise. Okay,
- 15:59Speaker 14: if here's the quarterback last Saturday, Texas Winsday game.
- 16:03Speaker 1: You know, I certainly did think about that. I did,
- 16:08Speaker 1: and I just I think that's an easy thing to say.
- 16:12Speaker 1: But you know, Quinn had his issues as well. I mean,
- 16:15Speaker 1: he wasn't nervous. You could never say that he was nervous,
- 16:18Speaker 1: never nervous, but he still had the same coach calling
- 16:22Speaker 1: plays inside the ten yard line.
- 16:25Speaker 15: But he did.
- 16:26Speaker 14: And here's the reason why I say that Quinn and
- 16:29Speaker 14: Arch are so totally opposite. I mean, you know, Arch
- 16:33Speaker 14: is the anti Quinn, And I don't mean that negatively.
- 16:36Speaker 14: I just mean they're different. And here's what I'm saying.
- 16:40Speaker 14: Quinn has as good a touch on the ball as
- 16:42Speaker 14: I've ever seen a textive quarterback. Yeah, okay, yeah, he
- 16:46Speaker 14: throw he threw a softball. He threw a catchable ball.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Yep.
- 16:50Speaker 14: And we see Arch manning rifle of ball to right
- 16:53Speaker 14: and wing go five yards away and expecting to catch it.
- 16:57Speaker 14: And Arch can run, Quinn could run, But the offensive
- 17:01Speaker 14: line protected Arch. Yes, and you assume they would have
- 17:04Speaker 14: protected Quinn. Now maybe you know how they blitzes more
- 17:08Speaker 14: and that sort of thing. But the patches that archmiths
- 17:12Speaker 14: Quinn completes in his sleep.
- 17:14Speaker 1: So did you ask uh Sark again this week about
- 17:20Speaker 1: red zone offense? Are you going to ask him every week.
- 17:24Speaker 14: Until he gets it right? I have to, and I
- 17:28Speaker 14: maintain that's the issue that's kept them out of a championship.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Oh I don't think there's any question about that.
- 17:33Speaker 14: And he keeps, you know, getting defensive about it. I
- 17:36Speaker 14: asked him, I didn't ask him. I didn't use the
- 17:39Speaker 14: buns words red zone. I asked him if he could
- 17:42Speaker 14: explain his approach you when he was inside the ten? Yeah,
- 17:47Speaker 14: and why that doesn't get done? And I just don't
- 17:51Speaker 14: see the creativity when he's inside the ten. I mean
- 17:55Speaker 14: that passed to uh Parker Livings though that you know,
- 17:58Speaker 14: our through a pretty good pass. Yeah, the corner of
- 18:01Speaker 14: the end zone. But that's a high risk passed. And
- 18:05Speaker 14: so when I asked Sark about that, he said, well,
- 18:08Speaker 14: that wasn't the first read. They wanted to hit right
- 18:10Speaker 14: and Wingo in the slot, but he was covered up,
- 18:13Speaker 14: and so he went to his second read. But when
- 18:16Speaker 14: they ran into the line on that goal line of
- 18:19Speaker 14: stand by a house state, where's the creativity there? Where's
- 18:24Speaker 14: the pop pass? Where do you hit the tight end,
- 18:27Speaker 14: the running back, the reverse, the counterplay? He ran into
- 18:32Speaker 14: the line. And I don't totally fault in for that,
- 18:36Speaker 14: because to me, that's a manhood issue. I don't ever
- 18:39Speaker 14: question a coach when he goes apart from the one,
- 18:43Speaker 14: unless you need a field goal to win or unless.
- 18:46Speaker 1: You're running a quarterback snake from the two yard line.
- 18:49Speaker 14: Right, that's you know, that's not going to get it done.
- 18:52Speaker 14: And here's the other One of the main things I
- 18:55Speaker 14: questioned about Sark was the decision right before the half.
- 19:00Speaker 14: I had a fourth and two at the Ohio State
- 19:03Speaker 14: forty five and punt yes, And I asked him, why
- 19:06Speaker 14: did you do that? And he said, I didn't want
- 19:09Speaker 14: to give Ohio State free points. And I'm thinking, what
- 19:13Speaker 14: the hell kind of message is that to send to
- 19:15Speaker 14: your office. I don't think my offense can get two yards,
- 19:19Speaker 14: you know. And I understand, I understand arts was terrible
- 19:23Speaker 14: that first half, yes, and the defense was playing lights
- 19:26Speaker 14: out and he's thinking, let me just get to the
- 19:29Speaker 14: locker room. But he's a guy that went for fourth
- 19:32Speaker 14: down five times.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Ship, yeah, got it once? Is that right?
- 19:36Speaker 14: And he got it once and that was like the
- 19:38Speaker 14: first drive of the game. Remember he was at his.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Own thirty or thirty five. Yeah, yeah, I couldn't believe it.
- 19:45Speaker 14: You go far at your own thirty five, but not
- 19:47Speaker 14: there forty five. And I didn't phrase it like that,
- 19:52Speaker 14: but I wanted to ask him. I said, I didn't
- 19:54Speaker 14: see old gas on that series, I saw breaks.
- 19:59Speaker 1: One more thing the receiving corps. I saw afterward that
- 20:04Speaker 1: Sark called Ohio State Secondary and their schemes elite.
- 20:09Speaker 16: Uh.
- 20:10Speaker 1: How concerned are you about this receiving corps getting off
- 20:15Speaker 1: of uh, you know, uh defense and making plays because
- 20:21Speaker 1: they weren't nearly as advertising. And again, I understand the
- 20:25Speaker 1: quarterback wasn't very good, but I didn't see a lot
- 20:27Speaker 1: of receivers running free too often.
- 20:30Speaker 14: I didn't see him running free that often. I didn't
- 20:32Speaker 14: see them get separation, you know, like Sark warned them
- 20:36Speaker 14: to see. I didn't see any spectacular catches like I saw.
- 20:40Speaker 14: You know, I turned on l s U Clemson and
- 20:43Speaker 14: and I see a spectactic catch. I turned on the
- 20:45Speaker 14: Miami Notre Dame game, and that C. Daniels catch may
- 20:48Speaker 14: have been the catch of the year already.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Yep.
- 20:51Speaker 14: And Ryan we go ahead his hands on some balls.
- 20:54Speaker 14: I'm not saying he should have called him, but he
- 20:56Speaker 14: could have called him. And you know, Parker Living so
- 21:00Speaker 14: you know, the red shirt freshmen didn't catch a pass
- 21:02Speaker 14: last year, is looking like the go to guy, and
- 21:06Speaker 14: he runs great routes and has great hands and doesn't
- 21:09Speaker 14: drop the ball. And he's a lot faster than people think.
- 21:12Speaker 14: But a lot of people are wondering why didn't they
- 21:15Speaker 14: go into the portal. We get an elite wide receiver
- 21:18Speaker 14: and it shows the confidence to start adding as much.
- 21:21Speaker 14: I wouldn't press the panic button on them, but they've
- 21:24Speaker 14: got to step up and play better. There is no
- 21:26Speaker 14: doubt about that.
- 21:27Speaker 1: All right. We'll continue with Kirk Boles after this for
- 21:30Speaker 1: Tagler Chevrolet and Brasis Home Care.

- 22:34Speaker 3: You're listening to the Zone.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Kirk Balls joins us on Friday's Kirk, let's look at
- 22:40Speaker 1: the list tomorrow. Not not bad, I tell you. I've
- 22:43Speaker 1: I've circled Kansas Missouri. This is a game. These states
- 22:47Speaker 1: don't like each other, The people don't like each other,
- 22:50Speaker 1: the teams don't like each other. They haven't played in
- 22:52Speaker 1: fourteen years in football, the.
- 22:56Speaker 14: Big rivalry, Big bro Yo. They used to cast the
- 22:59Speaker 14: Border War. Now we got to cause the Border showdown.
- 23:03Speaker 14: Come on, yeah, we're six years old. I mean, come on,
- 23:07Speaker 14: I mean everybody knows this, and oh.
- 23:09Speaker 1: It's gonna it's gonna be a war tomorrow.
- 23:13Speaker 14: It will be afore tomorrow, no matter what kind of
- 23:15Speaker 14: label you put all it. So you know, I didn't
- 23:18Speaker 14: see much clips of Kansas, but I know you know
- 23:21Speaker 14: Jayalen Daniels back for his eighteenth years.
- 23:23Speaker 1: He has been great so far.
- 23:26Speaker 14: Did he throw three touchdowns against Fresno.
- 23:29Speaker 1: And and he was? He was great against UH and
- 23:33Speaker 1: their opener as well.
- 23:35Speaker 11: He was.
- 23:36Speaker 14: And you know Kansas had a down year last year
- 23:38Speaker 14: and Jalen Daniel's injuries and help was a big viasons.
- 23:42Speaker 14: But I don't know. I did watch a lot of
- 23:44Speaker 14: the Missouri game and I forget who they were playing,
- 23:47Speaker 14: some no name teams, yes, and UH and and boat
- 23:50Speaker 14: Prabula looked really good. What he throw four touchdowns in Arkansas? Yeah,
- 23:57Speaker 14: and I liked him. And they do have a few
- 23:59Speaker 14: offensive line and that game is in Columbia. It is Yeah,
- 24:05Speaker 14: I like I hard either running back. They got the
- 24:07Speaker 14: transfer portal, and I know this is like a dead
- 24:10Speaker 14: even rivalry, but I'm going to go. I went to
- 24:12Speaker 14: Homer up and go with it.
- 24:13Speaker 16: Man.
- 24:14Speaker 1: I really want to take Kansas because of Daniels in
- 24:18Speaker 1: this game.
- 24:18Speaker 14: But you can do I know.
- 24:21Speaker 1: I can uh uh. You know Missouri is about a
- 24:24Speaker 1: touchdown favorite in this game. Uh, and they are playing
- 24:27Speaker 1: at home. I do like Missouri's defense. I think they're
- 24:30Speaker 1: really good. And I picked Missouri's one of my surprise
- 24:33Speaker 1: teams again in the SEC. So I guess I got
- 24:36Speaker 1: to stay with the Tigers in this one.
- 24:39Speaker 14: Uh you know, I said, maybe his best roster. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 24:44Speaker 14: I'm right there with you.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Iowa Iowa State another a big rivalry game. It's always exciting,
- 24:55Speaker 1: It's never necessarily great football, but this one is always
- 25:00Speaker 1: coming down to the end.
- 25:02Speaker 14: And I thought I read that Iowa State floss six
- 25:05Speaker 14: straight home.
- 25:05Speaker 1: I think I think you're correct.
- 25:08Speaker 14: How that happens, I have no idea. And you know,
- 25:12Speaker 14: after I watched the game in Dublin, yes where it
- 25:16Speaker 14: was a slog fan. Yeah, you know, either team looked
- 25:19Speaker 14: at great. I was really the one thing I noted
- 25:23Speaker 14: that I didn't see a whole lot of speed on
- 25:24Speaker 14: the Iowa States speed. So I worry about that. But
- 25:27Speaker 14: Rock Gobec obviously he's come back strong. I mean what
- 25:31Speaker 14: he threw like three hundred and six yards.
- 25:33Speaker 1: You know, I don't know that Iowa has any speed either.
- 25:36Speaker 14: Kurt Well, they are known for their speed. Now they
- 25:40Speaker 14: got that dual threat quarterback once, say Mark Ronowski from
- 25:44Speaker 14: UH I forgot where they got.
- 25:46Speaker 1: I'm glad you did your homework.
- 25:48Speaker 14: And they and they rushed for three hundred and ten yards,
- 25:51Speaker 14: but that was against Albany. I think I'm going to
- 25:54Speaker 14: say Iowa State playing at home gets it done, and
- 25:59Speaker 14: it's about.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Field goal, all right, Well, I'm afraid I'm gonna go
- 26:03Speaker 1: with that one as well. I'm gonna I'm gonna take
- 26:05Speaker 1: Iowa State at home, even as you mentioned Iowa has
- 26:08Speaker 1: owned them in ames. Another fascinating game to me is
- 26:12Speaker 1: the old Southwest Conference game. It's it's Baylor and SMU.
- 26:16Speaker 1: And I mean, as Baylor at one of those must
- 26:20Speaker 1: win games already after losing to Auburn last week.
- 26:24Speaker 14: I think you're reading my mind. I think it might be.
- 26:27Speaker 14: I mean, they look so bad against Auburn, and I
- 26:30Speaker 14: mean rid where they missed twenty three tackles in they
- 26:33Speaker 14: get and their.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Line of scrimmage just got they they they got driven by.
- 26:38Speaker 1: It looked it did. It looked like an SEC line
- 26:41Speaker 1: of scrimmage against a big twelve line of scrimmage. Kirk,
- 26:45Speaker 1: and with two mediocre teams. By the way, I don't
- 26:48Speaker 1: think Auburn's that good.
- 26:50Speaker 14: No, I don't think they're that good either, But Jackson
- 26:52Speaker 14: Arnold made a good impression this first game. I just think,
- 26:56Speaker 14: you know, SMU's been tough at home. They won fifteen
- 26:59Speaker 14: to sixteen home under Red lastly. But boy, you know,
- 27:03Speaker 14: if Vader loses this, David Randa's right back on the
- 27:06Speaker 14: hot seam because they were supposed to be a kind
- 27:09Speaker 14: of a dark horse contender for the Big Trails. But
- 27:12Speaker 14: as much as Bayers needs to win this, I just
- 27:15Speaker 14: think SMU is a better team. Yes, I gotta go
- 27:17Speaker 14: with the Mustags and Kevin Dinnings.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to go with SMU as well. And
- 27:24Speaker 1: another intriguing game Michigan and Oklahoma. We don't really know
- 27:27Speaker 1: what either of these teams have. Not sure we'll know
- 27:30Speaker 1: after Saturday night. But you know, Oklahoma, as bad as
- 27:34Speaker 1: they ben Kirk, their their home record is just outstanding.
- 27:40Speaker 1: They hardly lose at home.
- 27:43Speaker 14: Rarely lose, rarely lose. And I was impressed with John
- 27:46Speaker 14: but tear ye French for they got.
- 27:49Speaker 1: They didn't run the ball, didn't run the.
- 27:52Speaker 14: Ball well at all. I mean it was like sixty
- 27:54Speaker 14: seven yards on twenty four carries. But you know, the
- 27:57Speaker 14: thing is, and it's interesting, the whole must win thing.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, but.
- 28:03Speaker 14: Ren venables to losing seasons in three years. Yeah, he's
- 28:07Speaker 14: got a veteran quarterback, John Mateer, and Michigan's got Bryce Underwood,
- 28:12Speaker 14: true freshman who looks, yeah, really good. But against New Mexico,
- 28:18Speaker 14: and I just think, you know, the ou fans are
- 28:21Speaker 14: just ready to break out because they had to sit
- 28:25Speaker 14: back and watch Texas go to the SEC title game
- 28:27Speaker 14: and even A and m you know, come within a
- 28:30Speaker 14: game of getting to the SEC Championship game. So I think, oh,
- 28:33Speaker 14: you're going to have what it takes. And I think
- 28:36Speaker 14: you know, they may win by a field goals.
- 28:39Speaker 1: Well, I think my goal now is to just pick
- 28:43Speaker 1: like you picked the rest of the year, and and
- 28:45Speaker 1: the worst I can do is tie you.
- 28:49Speaker 14: Well, that's a break.
- 28:52Speaker 16: You like the Sooner.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to take the Sooners at home. I
- 28:56Speaker 1: just don't know enough about Michigan and uh. I like,
- 29:00Speaker 1: you know, it's always a speed game, and when I'm
- 29:02Speaker 1: watching most Big Ten teams except for Ohio State, I
- 29:06Speaker 1: think Oklahoma is going to have more speed.
- 29:09Speaker 14: Yeah, I think so two and probably the better defense.
- 29:12Speaker 14: I know Michigan lost heavily in their defensive front, so
- 29:15Speaker 14: it's gonna take them a while to rebuild that. Let's yeah,
- 29:19Speaker 14: I think Spooners are kind of a mystery team. You
- 29:22Speaker 14: know I wrote for the year oh u and a
- 29:24Speaker 14: every Woldt kind of mystery team. Let's see what they got.
- 29:27Speaker 14: And this is a big game for the SEC too. Yeah,
- 29:30Speaker 14: because after Texas and lost in Alabama got thrashed by
- 29:36Speaker 14: Florida State Texas. I mean, the SEC needs needs a statement,
- 29:40Speaker 14: went over the big ten. So there's a lot on
- 29:43Speaker 14: the line this game. Saturday Night.

- 32:34Speaker 4: against the New York Yankees, lost two out of three
- 32:37Speaker 4: to that baseball team. Now, when you look at the
- 32:41Speaker 4: standings right now and how MLB is shaking out, first off,
- 32:45Speaker 4: the Astros are still three and a half games up
- 32:48Speaker 4: in the AL West, which is just a product of
- 32:51Speaker 4: how garbage the AL West actually is. But not just there,
- 32:56Speaker 4: I mean all across baseball, believe it or not, the
- 32:59Speaker 4: Astros are four and a half games out of the
- 33:00Speaker 4: best record in the AL. That is a crazy statement
- 33:04Speaker 4: to say. And I don't I don't know that there's
- 33:06Speaker 4: a single team in baseball across the entire league that's
- 33:11Speaker 4: gonna win one hundred game. Maybe Milwaukee has an outside
- 33:14Speaker 4: chance to do it.
- 33:15Speaker 5: Yeah, I could see Milwaukee getting there, but there's other
- 33:19Speaker 5: than they have like twenty something games left.
- 33:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean we're in the final month, this is
- 33:23Speaker 4: the home stretch, right, so maybe Milwaukee, I mean if Toronto, Philly,
- 33:28Speaker 4: Detroit or Chicago goes on an insane run, then maybe
- 33:31Speaker 4: they could. But I would not put any chips on that.
- 33:34Speaker 5: Yeah. So I think Milwaukee would have to go fourteen
- 33:36Speaker 5: and seven, okay, and they would be right at one
- 33:39Speaker 5: hundred okay, and it's not crazy.
- 33:41Speaker 4: Yeah, so, but obviously the teams behind them would have
- 33:44Speaker 4: to do even better than that, and.
- 33:45Speaker 5: That the Cubs would have to go twenty and two.
- 33:48Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, so that does get into the crazy. I
- 33:51Speaker 4: don't think that's happening either. So really, Milwaukee, I think
- 33:53Speaker 4: is the only team left that has a chance to
- 33:54Speaker 4: get to one hundred. So it's really and you know,
- 33:57Speaker 4: kind of up until this point and even now, it's
- 34:00Speaker 4: it's been one of those seasons where you really haven't
- 34:01Speaker 4: seen a single team or two running away separating themselves
- 34:06Speaker 4: from the rest of the pack. Now, it's been a
- 34:09Speaker 4: turbulent week, to say the least for the Astros. I mean,
- 34:12Speaker 4: we had the week's start off where everybody was saying
- 34:14Speaker 4: fromber Valdez intentionally threw at Caesar Salazar, you know, after
- 34:19Speaker 4: that kind of back off little thing in the Yankees game. Yeah,
- 34:23Speaker 4: that hit the Grand Slam and then he's just like wham.
- 34:26Speaker 4: I saw the video. It looked intentional. I don't know
- 34:29Speaker 4: if it was.
- 34:30Speaker 5: So I with something like that. You know, anytime you
- 34:33Speaker 5: see a single clip like that and somebody has this
- 34:36Speaker 5: caption that's like Framberg intentionally throws at Caesar Salazar, You're
- 34:39Speaker 5: probably going to be inclined to believe that. And I
- 34:42Speaker 5: think that's it was probably intentional. But I'm also saying
- 34:44Speaker 5: that when a pitcher's locked in like that, like people
- 34:46Speaker 5: saw how Framberg immediately turned around and still has game
- 34:49Speaker 5: face on, and that's what made them assume it was intentional.
- 34:53Speaker 5: I also think that sometimes people are just locked in
- 34:56Speaker 5: and don't really have reactions to small stuff like that.
- 35:00Speaker 5: I'm not saying it wasn't intentional. I'm just saying that
- 35:03Speaker 5: that perspective is there as well.
- 35:05Speaker 4: I hear exactly what you're saying. But at the same time,
- 35:09Speaker 4: framber Valdez to me, has shown over the course of
- 35:13Speaker 4: his career to be somebody that can be a bit
- 35:16Speaker 4: fragile mentally at time, not gonna argue with you there,
- 35:19Speaker 4: So throwing that pitch, having it be a grand slam,
- 35:23Speaker 4: I could definitely see how immediately in that moment he
- 35:26Speaker 4: is just sure Pod and just I don't even think
- 35:31Speaker 4: it was Salasar's fault.
- 35:32Speaker 5: So yeah, no, I don't think it was Salasar's fault
- 35:35Speaker 5: at all. A lot of people have been complaining about
- 35:37Speaker 5: how frambur is as a teammate this season, especially so
- 35:41Speaker 5: he has a free agent at the end of the year,
- 35:42Speaker 5: so there is that for those people that don't like him.
- 35:44Speaker 5: But now we're gonna have to replace our best lefty starter.
- 35:48Speaker 4: Well, that wasn't the only drama there was. The thing
- 35:51Speaker 4: I was this last night where they confiscated Taylor Tremmel's bat.
- 35:55Speaker 4: Yeah's complained about it that. I guess they thought it
- 35:58Speaker 4: was shaved down too much. The Yankees, who you know,
- 36:02Speaker 4: pioneered the torpedo bats, complained rich, very very rich. The
- 36:07Speaker 4: irony there is just on another level, and it's a
- 36:10Speaker 4: game that they they won. This was the ninth inning, too,
- 36:12Speaker 4: so were they not already up like eight to four
- 36:14Speaker 4: whatever at this point they were comfortably in control of
- 36:17Speaker 4: this game.
- 36:18Speaker 5: Well, they were also comfortably in control of the game
- 36:20Speaker 5: on Wednesday when the Astros came back from being down.
- 36:23Speaker 5: I think it was six to one to win.
- 36:26Speaker 4: Yeah so, but I don't know, man, I mean Tremmel,
- 36:30Speaker 4: he granted it was like four or five games. But
- 36:33Speaker 4: he did play for the Yankees, you know. I believe
- 36:35Speaker 4: that's true last year year or too.
- 36:37Speaker 5: Last year he was on the Yankees and the Dodgers,
- 36:39Speaker 5: but wasn't on the World Series team for either of them.
- 36:41Speaker 4: So he got a ring though still didn't he I
- 36:43Speaker 4: guess is that word?
- 36:44Speaker 5: I don't know. I think I think you have to
- 36:46Speaker 5: be I think that if you're in the ORG when
- 36:49Speaker 5: they win it like a I don't know, man, it
- 36:52Speaker 5: might be that way. I'm not sure.
- 36:53Speaker 4: I've seen where it's like. I think if you're just
- 36:55Speaker 4: a part of the team at any point, you know,
- 36:57Speaker 4: during the season. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I've always thought
- 37:01Speaker 4: that that's how it's been.
- 37:02Speaker 5: That might be right. I can't remember. I don't think
- 37:04Speaker 5: there's any official I'm sure it changes from team to team.
- 37:08Speaker 4: Maybe maybe I don't know. This is beyond my expertise
- 37:11Speaker 4: when it comes to baseball. But yeah, so, looking forward,
- 37:15Speaker 4: you know what are we having. I had the schedule
- 37:18Speaker 4: put up right in front of me, and now it's
- 37:19Speaker 4: the Rangers and.
- 37:22Speaker 5: We got six games left against the Rangers. We start
- 37:25Speaker 5: the series in Arlington this tonight. Yes, they'll be back. Yeah,
- 37:32Speaker 5: they'll be in Houston on the fifteenth through the seventeenth.
- 37:35Speaker 5: So those six games against the Rangers. They are only
- 37:37Speaker 5: five games back of the Astros in the division. So
- 37:41Speaker 5: that could have a really huge impact on the Rangers
- 37:44Speaker 5: sneaking their way in the playoffs because they're also only
- 37:47Speaker 5: a game and a half back in the wild card.
- 37:49Speaker 5: So if if they win these two series, they have
- 37:52Speaker 5: a real good shot at sneaking in the playoffs.
- 37:55Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 37:55Speaker 5: I think the Astros are probably fine. I think even
- 37:58Speaker 5: if they don't win the division, they'll probably be right
- 38:01Speaker 5: there in the second or third wild card. But this
- 38:03Speaker 5: could have a big impact on the postseason pictures.
- 38:05Speaker 4: See that's the thing. If I'm the Astros, I'm trying
- 38:07Speaker 4: to avoid that wild card round like at all. Yeah, no,
- 38:10Speaker 4: do not absolutely play that again.
- 38:12Speaker 5: Absolutely, And you got.
- 38:13Speaker 4: The Mariners mixed in there too as well, And that's
- 38:15Speaker 4: going to be a big series because they're what three
- 38:17Speaker 4: and a half back, and you know, we don't know
- 38:19Speaker 4: how they're going to perform going down the rest of
- 38:21Speaker 4: the season, but needless to say, those would be very
- 38:24Speaker 4: three important games to win.
- 38:25Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean the Astros stretch run here, We've got
- 38:28Speaker 5: Rangers for the weekend series and then the mid week
- 38:31Speaker 5: series will be going to Toronto to take on the
- 38:35Speaker 5: Blue Jays. And they're leading the Ale East right now
- 38:37Speaker 5: to one of those teams that we're competing with to
- 38:39Speaker 5: get that first round by and the Blue Jays Tigers
- 38:43Speaker 5: within half a game of each other, so they pretty
- 38:45Speaker 5: much they have those buys right now. But if the
- 38:48Speaker 5: Astros could sweep the Blue Jays, then they might even
- 38:50Speaker 5: be in the spot to be the best team in
- 38:51Speaker 5: the American League. There's it's just.
- 38:53Speaker 4: Everybody don't even say that, man.
- 38:56Speaker 5: No, I'm just saying, everybody's so close together that really
- 38:59Speaker 5: anything can happen, even though it's already been that is
- 39:02Speaker 5: one hundred and thirty games.
- 39:03Speaker 4: That is the beauty of baseball. Anything really can happen.
- 39:05Speaker 4: You never know it's going to happen.
- 39:07Speaker 5: I think most of the time, over the last you know,
- 39:10Speaker 5: thirty years, there's usually not this many teams that are
- 39:14Speaker 5: still in the mix. For all this stuff, there's usually
- 39:16Speaker 5: at least one or two teams that already have ninety
- 39:18Speaker 5: wins by now and are well on their way to
- 39:21Speaker 5: having one hundred and five. Especially over the last like
- 39:23Speaker 5: eight years, I feel like there's been one hundred and
- 39:25Speaker 5: nine win teams. We've won one hundred and four games
- 39:27Speaker 5: or one hundred and three games in that stretch.
- 39:28Speaker 4: I mean, that's where the Dodgers have been for like
- 39:29Speaker 4: the last decade or so.
- 39:31Speaker 5: Well, But this with the wild card expansion, was that
- 39:34Speaker 5: two three years ago? Yeah, there have been way more
- 39:39Speaker 5: teams just not selling at the deadline, and everybody's still
- 39:43Speaker 5: in the mix because we don't have teams, we don't
- 39:45Speaker 5: have super teams adding even more at the deadline, and
- 39:48Speaker 5: you don't have those teams that sold being bad. They're
- 39:52Speaker 5: all still in it. So it's really interesting that there's
- 39:55Speaker 5: this many teams still in the mix in September.
- 39:57Speaker 4: Well, it should make for a really fun playoff that's
- 39:59Speaker 4: going to ge started here in about a month. That's
- 40:01Speaker 4: a great segue to get into the Astros Report, which
- 40:04Speaker 4: we are going to get queued up here really quick
- 40:06Speaker 4: for you and uh, all right, Caleb gave me the

- 41:20Speaker 18: Houston Astros took a tough loss last night as they
- 41:22Speaker 18: fell to the Yankees eight to four. Christian Javier had
- 41:26Speaker 18: a rough outing US. He was only able to go
- 41:28Speaker 18: four and a third innings, allowing six hits and four
- 41:31Speaker 18: runs along with three walks, and it was Caleb Orr
- 41:35Speaker 18: in the eighth, allowing four runs in just two thirds
- 41:38Speaker 18: of an inning. The Astros entered the ninth down eight
- 41:42Speaker 18: to three. They did score run and at the bases
- 41:45Speaker 18: loaded with just one out. However, Carlos Korea and Christian
- 41:49Speaker 18: Walker both struck out in the game. The Astros now
- 41:53Speaker 18: shift their focus to the Texas Rangers as the battle
- 41:56Speaker 18: for the Silver Boot continues tonight and leaves the Rangers
- 42:01Speaker 18: by five games in the AO West. First pitch is

- 43:32Speaker 4: Oh yeah, all right, time for the good stuff. College football.
- 43:36Speaker 4: Oh we got a lot of stuff to hit on
- 43:38Speaker 4: with this now. First off, how about Lee Horso going
- 43:41Speaker 4: out perfect? It's the sport's not rigged, we promise, I know, right,
- 43:45Speaker 4: that's I saw it, sound like I saw so many
- 43:48Speaker 4: comments about that when when the final you know, game
- 43:52Speaker 4: that he picked went final, and then all the social
- 43:55Speaker 4: media started buzzing about it.
- 43:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I had my friend texting me every time one
- 43:58Speaker 5: of those went final. So I I always have enjoyed
- 44:04Speaker 5: college game day. Of course, now I didn't get to
- 44:05Speaker 5: see coach Corso in his prime, I would say, you know,
- 44:08Speaker 5: being as young as I am.
- 44:09Speaker 4: I mean yeah, he started before I was born too,
- 44:11Speaker 4: so yeah, but it was really cool to see him
- 44:16Speaker 4: make his final pick and when so what I was
- 44:18Speaker 4: confused about it at first.
- 44:19Speaker 5: When I was watching game day last Saturday morning, they
- 44:22Speaker 5: always have the game day desk out there, you know,
- 44:24Speaker 5: outside the stadium, right among the students and stuff, and
- 44:27Speaker 5: they did their first few picks out there, and then
- 44:29Speaker 5: they moved the desk inside the stadium. Yeah, I saw it,
- 44:32Speaker 5: and at first I was like, well, why are they
- 44:33Speaker 5: doing it in there where nobody's looking at like the
- 44:36Speaker 5: game day desk, because nobody looks at the sports news
- 44:38Speaker 5: desks when the game's about to start. And then they
- 44:41Speaker 5: put him out on the fifty yard line and broadcast
- 44:43Speaker 5: it over the speakers in the stadium. So that was
- 44:45Speaker 5: really cool. I really liked them.
- 44:47Speaker 4: You saw the overhad book, the band was out there,
- 44:49Speaker 4: they spelled.
- 44:49Speaker 5: Out on the That was really cool. I was not
- 44:52Speaker 5: expecting that.
- 44:53Speaker 4: Fox cut to it too, and you know, obviously that's
- 44:55Speaker 4: not their panel, but of course they're gonna be classy
- 44:58Speaker 4: like that, so that was really great to Yeah, that
- 45:00Speaker 4: was really it was really cool to see all the
- 45:01Speaker 4: tributes and then of course the full circle of him
- 45:03Speaker 4: picking Ohio State.
- 45:04Speaker 5: That was his first time. I mean, everybody saw that coming,
- 45:06Speaker 5: but it was still Yeah, it was still really cool.
- 45:08Speaker 4: And now before we talk about some of the games
- 45:11Speaker 4: coming up this weekend, I actually saw this being posted
- 45:14Speaker 4: about over the course of the week. Of course, Alabama
- 45:19Speaker 4: lost to Florida State, which did happen. Yeah, larm Bell's
- 45:25Speaker 4: going off there. So I saw a couple odds that
- 45:29Speaker 4: were posted courtesy of bet online, and this was circulating around.
- 45:32Speaker 4: They have the odds of the first Power for Conference
- 45:35Speaker 4: coach that's going to be fired, and they have the
- 45:37Speaker 4: odds to be the next Alabama head coach. Yeah, they're
- 45:41Speaker 4: already going there, So I guess we'll start with who's
- 45:43Speaker 4: going to be fired first. They actually have Brent Priye
- 45:46Speaker 4: at Virginia Tech as the favorite to be the first
- 45:49Speaker 4: one fired.
- 45:50Speaker 5: Okay, they got Vanderbilt this week.
- 45:51Speaker 4: Okay, and then you gotta go then Brent Brennan at Arizona.
- 45:55Speaker 4: He is number two.
- 45:57Speaker 5: Arizona's been pretty down in the dumps.
- 45:59Speaker 10: Yea.
- 46:00Speaker 4: Sam Pittman in Arkansas is tied with Deshaun Foster at
- 46:03Speaker 4: UCLA for third most likely to be fired. Then you
- 46:07Speaker 4: have Scott's sadderfield Cincinnati. You got to go to Hugh
- 46:11Speaker 4: Freeze Auburn. That's the first SEC team that's on here
- 46:15Speaker 4: most likely SEC coach to get fired first.
- 46:17Speaker 5: You said Arkansas.
- 46:19Speaker 4: I did, I met. I'm sorry, you know what, Yes,
- 46:23Speaker 4: I did. Thank you, Thank you for pointing that out. Okay,
- 46:26Speaker 4: So Auburn is number two, and then Billy Napier Florida
- 46:29Speaker 4: behind him.
- 46:30Speaker 5: Yeah, so I don't Okay, I don't think Billy naper
- 46:33Speaker 5: needs to be on that list anymore.
- 46:35Speaker 4: He was last year. I remember that was like the
- 46:37Speaker 4: big you know, I thought he.
- 46:39Speaker 5: Was going to get fired last year. But with the
- 46:41Speaker 5: way they're looking this year, unless they lose the South
- 46:43Speaker 5: Florida right on tomorrow, but I don't think he should
- 46:46Speaker 5: be on that list.
- 46:47Speaker 4: Yeah no, I think he, at least for now has
- 46:49Speaker 4: gotten himself off the hot seat too. As far as
- 46:52Speaker 4: the odds to be the next Alabama head coach, I
- 46:54Speaker 4: really kind of scratched my head at this because there
- 46:56Speaker 4: are some names on here that just sound way too
- 46:58Speaker 4: crazy to me. Okay, believe it or not. Number one,
- 47:02Speaker 4: and I don't know if these are still the current odds.
- 47:03Speaker 4: This was, you know, two or three days ago, but
- 47:06Speaker 4: it's what I'm gonna use. They had Tommy Rees, the
- 47:08Speaker 4: Browns coach that as that's interesting plus three hundred, followed
- 47:13Speaker 4: by Glenn Schuman from Georgia.
- 47:17Speaker 5: He was in the running ford the Oregon job when
- 47:20Speaker 5: that came up.
- 47:22Speaker 4: Lane Kiffin. They have a third from Ole, miss Than
- 47:27Speaker 4: Kenny Dillingham from Arizona State at fourth. Here's the one
- 47:30Speaker 4: that the one that really made me kind of laugh.
- 47:35Speaker 4: They have Dion at number five.
- 47:37Speaker 14: Uh.
- 47:39Speaker 4: Further down the list, they actually have Jimbo Fisher on here,
- 47:43Speaker 4: absolutely twelve hundred. It's so funny.
- 47:45Speaker 5: That's not gonna happen.
- 47:45Speaker 4: Yeah, they have him on here, but I don't think
- 47:47Speaker 4: that's gonna happen. And then behind him they have Demico Ryans,
- 47:51Speaker 4: the Texans coach.
- 47:52Speaker 5: Right he went to Alabama.
- 47:53Speaker 4: He did go to Alabama, But I don't why would
- 47:56Speaker 4: he leave the NFL when the NFL okay? But Demiko
- 48:01Speaker 4: Ryans has a team that is up and coming. Sure,
- 48:04Speaker 4: he's not on the hot seat at all. Don't forget
- 48:06Speaker 4: he played for the Texans too, so he loves Houston
- 48:08Speaker 4: too absolutely, so that that's kind of like in what world.
- 48:12Speaker 5: Sort of honestly, of the crazy ones, I think that
- 48:15Speaker 5: one's one of the more likely ones. Like it's more
- 48:19Speaker 5: likely than Jimbo Fisher, It's more likely than Dion Maybe not,
- 48:24Speaker 5: it might not be more likely than It depends on
- 48:28Speaker 5: if they if he actually would have had Colorado be good,
- 48:30Speaker 5: then he would definitely be like they probably would have
- 48:33Speaker 5: fired Debora already, yeah and hired him, but he really
- 48:36Speaker 5: hasn't done that much.
- 48:38Speaker 4: Yeah, it looked promising when things first started. I remember, man,
- 48:42Speaker 4: I remember what was his first season, either like last
- 48:45Speaker 4: season or before, when Colorado started off beaten six and
- 48:49Speaker 4: everyone's like, oh my god, Colorado's going to go to
- 48:51Speaker 4: the playoff and then it kind of just all fell apart.
- 48:53Speaker 5: From the I think they were five and six and
- 48:55Speaker 5: oh something like that and ended up losing like four
- 48:58Speaker 5: their last five something like that.
- 48:59Speaker 4: Yeah, and so Colorado and Houston actually play pretty soon.
- 49:04Speaker 4: I'm gonna be interested to see how that game goes.
- 49:06Speaker 4: Just as a Houston fan.
- 49:07Speaker 5: I'm gonna say the one that I hope it is
- 49:09Speaker 5: is definitely Lane Kiffen.
- 49:11Speaker 4: Yeah, Lane Kiffin out of Ole Miss.
- 49:12Speaker 5: I would love that so much. Yeah, because that would
- 49:16Speaker 5: be that would be an absolute circus in the best.
- 49:19Speaker 4: Way it would be. And you know, I'm no Ole
- 49:25Speaker 4: Miss fan. I'm not gonna lie and I will is
- 49:27Speaker 4: obviously his daughter goes there so much. Okay, too many
- 49:30Speaker 4: bad things about Ole Miss, but that's an Alabama just
- 49:36Speaker 4: kind of seems like they need somebody else to step
- 49:38Speaker 4: in there right now and kind of get that ship
- 49:40Speaker 4: right because I don't think that they have things under
- 49:44Speaker 4: control very well right now. I think those players are
- 49:47Speaker 4: not as disciplined as they were under Nick Sabane with that,
- 49:50Speaker 4: so yeah, well we'll see how that saga shakes out.
- 49:54Speaker 4: This was another thing, uh, and I think this actually
- 49:57Speaker 4: came out yesterday or the day before about but the
- 50:00Speaker 4: single transfer portal that the NCAA is moving to. Okay,
- 50:03Speaker 4: as far as college football, so of course, it's always
- 50:05Speaker 4: been a winter and a spring portal, you know, the
- 50:08Speaker 4: two portals.
- 50:09Speaker 5: So a lot.
- 50:11Speaker 4: Yes, they This has been a topic for a while now,
- 50:13Speaker 4: and so the NCAAFBS Oversight Committee voted yesterday to move
- 50:18Speaker 4: to a January transfer window and eliminate the spring window.
- 50:23Speaker 4: So the transfer window would be a ten day period
- 50:27Speaker 4: that would open January second, twenty twenty six, which would
- 50:30Speaker 4: be one day after the college football playoff quarterfinals are completed. Okay,
- 50:34Speaker 4: It does say the D one Administrative Committee must approve
- 50:37Speaker 4: the changes before it can actually take effect. That vote
- 50:40Speaker 4: is expected to occur before October first, so sometime this month.
- 50:43Speaker 5: So this would go into effect this coming season or
- 50:46Speaker 5: this off sea.
- 50:47Speaker 4: Yes, if it is approved, it looks like it would.
- 50:49Speaker 4: It says they are also proposing on making the entire
- 50:52Speaker 4: month of December a recruiting dead period, which would mean
- 50:55Speaker 4: coaches would be able to have contact with recruits, but
- 50:58Speaker 4: would not be permitted to do on or off campus
- 51:01Speaker 4: recruiting visits or evaluations.
- 51:03Speaker 5: Okay, because the early dead are they did away with
- 51:07Speaker 5: the early signing deadline that still exists, right Maybe I
- 51:11Speaker 5: don't know, Maybe that's why they're doing a dead period.
- 51:13Speaker 4: Maybe, I mean, and you know, you were alluding to
- 51:16Speaker 4: it a second ago that a lot of people have
- 51:18Speaker 4: been calling for this, and if you remember, you know,
- 51:21Speaker 4: kind of rewind back to this past season, there was
- 51:24Speaker 4: a lot of frustration because, uh, what it was is
- 51:26Speaker 4: both Penn State and SMU lost their backup quarterbacks to
- 51:30Speaker 4: the portal while they were still competing in the playoffs,
- 51:34Speaker 4: which of course is a distraction that no team needs
- 51:37Speaker 4: while they're in the playoff.
- 51:38Speaker 5: Yeah, that I'm glad if they I'm very glad that
- 51:41Speaker 5: they're moving towards getting rid of that because I I
- 51:44Speaker 5: never understood why that was a thing in the first place.
- 51:46Speaker 5: I don't get doing I don't get going into the
- 51:48Speaker 5: transfer portal as like from the player's perspective, I don't
- 51:52Speaker 5: get it either, because what if you still have an
- 51:55Speaker 5: opportunity to perform on a national stage. If somebody gets hurt,
- 51:59Speaker 5: like the backup, you're one spot away from getting to
- 52:02Speaker 5: perform on the national stage, and then that's a much
- 52:05Speaker 5: better like trampoline into the transfer portal if that's what
- 52:08Speaker 5: you end up doing.
- 52:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I And I don't know this from the perspective
- 52:12Speaker 4: of an athlete or you know, a student in this position.
- 52:15Speaker 4: So I'm not going to like try and speak on it,
- 52:17Speaker 4: But I do wonder myself as well, like what the
- 52:20Speaker 4: rationale is you know there, I mean maybe you just
- 52:22Speaker 4: want to get a jump on it or something. You know,
- 52:25Speaker 4: you had Tennessee and obviously you remember everything with Nico
- 52:28Speaker 4: I Amica, Yeah, and how he exited in April because
- 52:32Speaker 4: of the whole money thing, and yeah, that was a
- 52:35Speaker 4: whole disaster and it's like a pretty bad move so far.
- 52:37Speaker 16: So far.
- 52:38Speaker 4: Yeah, well it's early early season still, but we'll see
- 52:41Speaker 4: how that shakes out. But yeah, I do agree that
- 52:43Speaker 4: this is a very welcome change. I think in it
- 52:46Speaker 4: will hopefully provide a little more stability, you know. And
- 52:50Speaker 4: there's people that, obviously, you know, argue against it as well,
- 52:54Speaker 4: saying that like it doesn't give athletes enough time you know,
- 52:58Speaker 4: or think things can change, and then they're not able
- 53:01Speaker 4: to do anything.
- 53:02Speaker 5: So but that's just them going into the portal, right.
- 53:04Speaker 5: They don't have to make a decision in that window,
- 53:06Speaker 5: do they.
- 53:06Speaker 4: I I don't know. And I think there's still talk
- 53:12Speaker 4: of there being some like exceptions, you know, because I
- 53:14Speaker 4: know it's always been like if there's a coaching change
- 53:16Speaker 4: or something, then there's a you know, a seven window. Yeah,
- 53:19Speaker 4: that'll open up for those players going through that so
- 53:21Speaker 4: that they can still So I don't know if I
- 53:23Speaker 4: think that might stick around, you know. And obviously once
- 53:26Speaker 4: this gets finalized, all of those details, you know, will
- 53:29Speaker 4: be clear, because this again is not something that's official yet,
- 53:31Speaker 4: but it is something that the wheels are in motion.
- 53:33Speaker 5: Sure for it to actually happen. Yeah, that's the go
- 53:37Speaker 5: into the portal and make your decision window. I'm pretty
- 53:39Speaker 5: sure that's not what it is.
- 53:40Speaker 4: Yeah, but that would be crazy, Yeah, that would be
- 53:42Speaker 4: pretty crazy indeed. But yeah, anyways, welcome change indeed, and
- 53:47Speaker 4: we've got a lot of games to pick as well.
- 53:48Speaker 4: There's a pretty big ones coming up this weekend. I
- 53:51Speaker 4: think we will start hitting on that in the top
- 53:54Speaker 4: of the five o'clock hour. We've got to close out
- 53:56Speaker 4: this four o'clock hour, but that it's going to be

- 54:17Speaker 4: out there. I'm sure he's listening right now. So that's
- 54:19Speaker 4: all going to be coming up inside the five o'clock hour.
