- 1:08Speaker 5: Welcome in glad to have you with us. It is
- 1:10Speaker 5: a Monday. We've got the writers here. This portion of
- 1:12Speaker 5: the program is brought to you by the Dollar Floor Store.
- 1:15Speaker 5: We're joined by Robert Sesna rusty person. Uh normally, well,
- 1:20Speaker 5: I say normally it's still a little early to talk
- 1:22Speaker 5: football because spring training had started yet, Fine, what about
- 1:27Speaker 5: ELCO today? What I'm looking at after after after listening
- 1:31Speaker 5: and reading the transcripts, we already knew that. But man,
- 1:36Speaker 5: when you start going through the new coaching staff, which.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Is total, total, eventful, total.
- 1:43Speaker 5: Almost and the new players, it's like, hey, and I
- 1:48Speaker 5: get the DIC. Yes, in this day and age, except
- 1:53Speaker 5: for the coaching staff, not necessarily, but in this day
- 1:56Speaker 5: and age, you're gonna be starting over almost every year.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Like you talk to about getting Robinson back, Well, as
- 2:02Speaker 2: he said, when Robinson he went up with childhood buddy
- 2:07Speaker 2: to be at Syracuse with it was but you know,
- 2:09Speaker 2: he wanted to be a coordinator and got the big
- 2:11Speaker 2: box in el Caselde came back on the market. He
- 2:14Speaker 2: was not to be a DC. He was one of
- 2:16Speaker 2: the top in the country, which I could see. If
- 2:18Speaker 2: you've been around Robinson you can see that. But once
- 2:21Speaker 2: again is and you know, you take things in here
- 2:24Speaker 2: and now when we talked about somebody asking about his
- 2:27Speaker 2: transfer part and he said, it's a little bit like
- 2:29Speaker 2: going to the grocery store, but you only have so
- 2:31Speaker 2: much budget. It's not like who you don't get or whatever,
- 2:34Speaker 2: it's who you And let's be honest, it's all about
- 2:36Speaker 2: who can you afford? Who can you get?
- 2:38Speaker 5: I don't care who you are, and how can you
- 2:40Speaker 5: coach them and how to develop them and developed them?
- 2:43Speaker 2: Because first thing I noticed, because I'm working a story,
- 2:46Speaker 2: is I mean thing jumps out at He's thirteen players
- 2:48Speaker 2: to the NFL combine. I mean, the NFL doesn't screw up.
- 2:51Speaker 2: You gotta have talent to get to the NFL.
- 2:53Speaker 5: Yeah, we're going to talk about that.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Do you have thirteen? That means they think you can
- 2:58Speaker 2: go out in these elite fifty three man rosters and
- 3:01Speaker 2: possibly make it. So that tells me Elko's doing something right,
- 3:06Speaker 2: which we all know Jimbo could sign top ten classes
- 3:09Speaker 2: out as Ying Yang, but he couldn't develop them ortiev them. Yeah.
- 3:12Speaker 1: One thing that obviously Elko has proven in the short
- 3:15Speaker 1: time he's been here is that he has produced in
- 3:18Speaker 1: the trend.
- 3:19Speaker 5: He can evaluate talent.
- 3:20Speaker 1: He can, and there's no doubt, so I trust him.
- 3:22Speaker 1: He talks about a bunch of guys I've never heard
- 3:24Speaker 1: of exactly, but I trust that he knows the way
- 3:28Speaker 1: he's do it because his track record here is pretty
- 3:31Speaker 1: aren't good?
- 3:31Speaker 5: Pretty good? When you see thirteen players.
- 3:34Speaker 2: And some of those guys maybe in one or two
- 3:35Speaker 2: years once again is he gets the most part?
- 3:38Speaker 5: But what did we say except even the high draft
- 3:41Speaker 5: choices cease? I mean, a couple of them have gone on,
- 3:44Speaker 5: and you know, I don't can't name all of them,
- 3:48Speaker 5: but you didn't see thirteen players going to the NFL combine.
- 3:52Speaker 5: I mean, and what we talk about and what we
- 3:55Speaker 5: continue to talk about when they were losing under Jim,
- 4:00Speaker 5: It's like, Okay, these other teams do have thirteen players
- 4:05Speaker 5: going to the NFL combine this year, right? They they
- 4:09Speaker 5: had more more talent despite all the five star stuff
- 4:13Speaker 5: and all the hooplah, they still didn't have guys that
- 4:17Speaker 5: you're looking at, going Okay, this guy is not only
- 4:20Speaker 5: going to the NFL, He's going to do some things
- 4:23Speaker 5: in the NFL. And so I think that's a big change.
- 4:26Speaker 5: The last couple of years.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I was hearing Elko talk about it. I said, you know,
- 4:30Speaker 1: that's that's a great positive way look at it is
- 4:32Speaker 1: say hey, you know, we want to be able to
- 4:34Speaker 1: put people in the NFL. People And yeah, part of me,
- 4:38Speaker 1: I guess the negative Nancy and me was like, hm,
- 4:41Speaker 1: that makes the last two games a little more disappointing.
- 4:43Speaker 1: We've got.
- 4:45Speaker 2: You're absolutely correct because what comes with that is comes
- 4:48Speaker 2: high expectation.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Expectations.
- 4:49Speaker 2: You know, when you're telling me you have thirteen NFL
- 4:52Speaker 2: team players and you didn't win the first round of
- 4:56Speaker 2: the playoffs, don't think.
- 4:57Speaker 1: I don't think Miami has thirteen going through the point.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know. Looked it up, right, of.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Us are most in the nation, the most going to
- 5:04Speaker 2: the combine. When you start to think about that, that
- 5:06Speaker 2: floored me because I'm saying, like.
- 5:07Speaker 1: But again, a lot of it's going to come down
- 5:09Speaker 1: to coaching, because I guarantee you Wisconsin Indiana doesn't have
- 5:13Speaker 1: that many going right, No, and they won the NAST Championship.
- 5:16Speaker 5: Yes, so yes, white teams still still coaching.
- 5:20Speaker 2: You did all these things we always talkingship, show, talent
- 5:23Speaker 2: and coaching.
- 5:24Speaker 5: Yep, yep, you gotta have talent and you gotta have
- 5:26Speaker 5: a big pocketbook. Now you have to have a big pocketbook.
- 5:29Speaker 5: You've got to have a way to develop. You've got
- 5:31Speaker 5: to have somebody in the UH players and coaches who
- 5:37Speaker 5: know how to bring guys together who have never been
- 5:40Speaker 5: together before. And that's every year, every single year. It's
- 5:44Speaker 5: going to be new.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Now.
- 5:45Speaker 5: In college, used to you had at least three years
- 5:49Speaker 5: to develop these guys, right, and you had guys who
- 5:53Speaker 5: and if the coaches were around, they knew what to
- 5:56Speaker 5: tell the guys coming in. This is how we do
- 5:59Speaker 5: things here, and this is you know what he said today.
- 6:04Speaker 5: Let me let me explain that to you. Why he
- 6:06Speaker 5: said it the way he did. All of that stuff's
- 6:09Speaker 5: out the window now, and I just I think you
- 6:13Speaker 5: have to be even more intentional. I think you have
- 6:16Speaker 5: to be even better this day and age, because you're
- 6:19Speaker 5: getting new guys every I mean a lot of new guys.
- 6:22Speaker 1: And the thing is like he was going on about
- 6:25Speaker 1: the linebacker from Tulsa, right yep, And I was like, man,
- 6:28Speaker 1: this is so weird because I mean, you see it
- 6:31Speaker 1: every year that these guys from smaller schools make great
- 6:35Speaker 1: NFL players, right, I Mean, we've seen it for forever right,
- 6:38Speaker 1: I mean Jerry Rice Walter Payton. I mean, come on
- 6:41Speaker 1: on and on, Hall of Famers, but you have to
- 6:44Speaker 1: be able to evaluate. Okay, this guy did this playing
- 6:48Speaker 1: at Tulsa. Can he do that in the SEC? And
- 6:50Speaker 1: that's so far. Elko has done a really good job
- 6:53Speaker 1: of that.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Well, it's a lot of it is Fanny because I
- 6:56Speaker 2: always have to laugh and I'll throw out a name
- 6:58Speaker 2: because he went to Seeters George Pickens for example. A
- 7:00Speaker 2: lot of times you'll see these guys in college don't
- 7:03Speaker 2: have any problems really, and I think it goes back
- 7:06Speaker 2: to the culture. Then when they start getting all this
- 7:08Speaker 2: money to get all this attention, you see their jerk,
- 7:10Speaker 2: so they do things wrong, and I think it goes
- 7:13Speaker 2: back to the colleges when you Nick saman divides.
- 7:17Speaker 1: All all Pickens needed was Jared Jones's influence look at him.
- 7:21Speaker 2: But you know if you go in and played for Alabama,
- 7:24Speaker 2: when you played for SABAN, you know you're going to
- 7:26Speaker 2: do it his way and correct. And I think Elko
- 7:28Speaker 2: does a good job when you let's be honest. When
- 7:31Speaker 2: he first took over, what did some of the first
- 7:33Speaker 2: guys say that even if you even hold over like
- 7:36Speaker 2: they had discipline the program you take nia Smith said,
- 7:40Speaker 2: the immediate thing he noticed was was was discipline or culture?
- 7:45Speaker 2: And once again is we've been around sports a long time.
- 7:47Speaker 2: You go out, whether you go out to baseball park
- 7:49Speaker 2: or whatever, does that team of chemistry? Does that team
- 7:52Speaker 2: of leaders? Because the coach I don't know how many
- 7:55Speaker 2: coaches he named, so many analysts, I go. My head
- 7:57Speaker 2: was spinning to it's crazy. But once again, is you
- 8:00Speaker 2: gotta have some coaches on the field. You can't. Coaches
- 8:03Speaker 2: can't go on the field and coach.
- 8:05Speaker 1: The longer the season is the more important. That is too, right,
- 8:08Speaker 1: I mean the culture. I mean because you're living with
- 8:11Speaker 1: these guys round the clock, right, and so that influencing
- 8:15Speaker 1: each other positively, that makes all the differences.
- 8:17Speaker 5: Well, winning breeds winning does it? Not?
- 8:19Speaker 1: Absolutely?
- 8:20Speaker 5: And winning certainly helps the culture. It's like a double
- 8:24Speaker 5: edged sword. What comes first, right, But when you win, hey,
- 8:29Speaker 5: you can put up with whatever the coaches, however they're coaching.
- 8:33Speaker 5: If you're winning, right, doesn't matter what their style, doesn't matter,
- 8:36Speaker 5: if they're on you all day long. If you're winning,
- 8:38Speaker 5: it's like okay, then you get guys coming in going, hey,
- 8:42Speaker 5: these guys were in the playoffs last year, right that
- 8:46Speaker 5: I want to be part of that. So I if
- 8:48Speaker 5: this is what they did to get there, I'm in. Right,
- 8:53Speaker 5: You're you're gonna have kids coming going yeah. If this
- 8:56Speaker 5: is if this is how we coaches and they want
- 8:59Speaker 5: to love it games, I'm in.
- 9:01Speaker 2: And when you get back to thirteen players going to
- 9:04Speaker 2: the NFL combine, one thing that all Savings team had
- 9:08Speaker 2: is competition for spots, who benches their quarterback, that work
- 9:12Speaker 2: with the national championship and put someone in better.
- 9:14Speaker 5: But you know what, I don't know in this day
- 9:17Speaker 5: and agecs can you build that kind of depth, not
- 9:21Speaker 5: at quarterback.
- 9:22Speaker 2: But what's it? What's the it is? Like Elko touched
- 9:24Speaker 2: on today, you know he's rolled heavily in the last
- 9:27Speaker 2: two years on transfers. He wants to get a little
- 9:30Speaker 2: bit away from that. And now I feel some of
- 9:32Speaker 2: these younger guys are going to be competing. And as
- 9:34Speaker 2: he said, these guys coming in from Tulsa whatever, all
- 9:37Speaker 2: these guys expect to start. Now, if they get beat
- 9:39Speaker 2: out by somebody that's been here two or three years,
- 9:42Speaker 2: then A and M is the big winner because then
- 9:43Speaker 2: they have a better player. Today.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Absolutely just talking about the competition and practice every day.
- 9:48Speaker 1: That makes everybody, I mean makes everybody better, right, Yeah,
- 9:52Speaker 1: no doubt.
- 9:52Speaker 2: And once again is when you have a big payroll,
- 9:54Speaker 2: you can go out and get better players to compete.
- 9:57Speaker 5: They got twenty five high school kids and seven team transfers. Right,
- 10:01Speaker 5: that's forty two. Okay, that's forty two. That doesn't include
- 10:05Speaker 5: the special teams. He talked about five specialists he brought in.
- 10:12Speaker 5: I underlined this Illinois five specialists, three high school kids, okay,
- 10:19Speaker 5: and special team coach. Obviously, Well, you have special.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Teams weren't great, Like yeah, having a snapper, because I
- 10:25Speaker 1: mean the grand kid had a great career. It's a
- 10:28Speaker 1: deep snapper. You never heard of it because.
- 10:31Speaker 5: You never want to hear of your deep snapper. You
- 10:33Speaker 5: you don't want to know who it is.
- 10:34Speaker 1: They use up for All American Honors as a snapper.
- 10:37Speaker 5: Boots Hey boom Stout's played like three or four five
- 10:39Speaker 5: years in the NFL.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Well, I mean you can play fifteen years if you
- 10:43Speaker 1: course you can't. So yeah, and.
- 10:45Speaker 2: It was gonna get back to the next year when
- 10:46Speaker 2: they're lining up kick a forty yard field goal. You
- 10:48Speaker 2: can go to the bathroom. The concessions stand on.
- 10:50Speaker 1: I feel good about it.
- 10:51Speaker 5: Yeah, I feel good about.
- 10:52Speaker 2: It because that guy from Illinois pretty good. If he
- 10:54Speaker 2: can kick that way, transfer up up the way in
- 10:57Speaker 2: the bad weather up in Illinois in big ten countries
- 11:00Speaker 2: should be able to Yeah.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Well, swirling winds against Miami was something else.
- 11:05Speaker 5: It was. It was a little tough for both kickers.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Yeah. I was at the topest stadium that day.
- 11:12Speaker 5: It was blowing.
- 11:14Speaker 2: This just did not Miami was better than a lot
- 11:16Speaker 2: of people thought that. Yeah.
- 11:18Speaker 5: Yeah, they were pretty good, and so was Indiana. Soone
- 11:21Speaker 5: keeps Indiana was pretty good. Yeah. Yeah, uh, I just
- 11:25Speaker 5: you know, it's just so interesting. And Russey used to
- 11:29Speaker 5: do these previews because you've talked about it a lot.
- 11:32Speaker 5: It's like, I don't know what these teams are going
- 11:35Speaker 5: to do, right.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm so glad I don't do. They're new.
- 11:39Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, they're new every year. It's like, we don't know,
- 11:43Speaker 5: you have zero. You know, you've got quarterbacks coming see
- 11:47Speaker 5: you mentioned it. You know you have to have a quarterback.
- 11:50Speaker 5: But if you have a kid coming in from somewhere else,
- 11:54Speaker 5: and to me, it's let's go to Indiana. It's like
- 11:57Speaker 5: the TCU kid Who's Hoover Hoover Joshua. It's like where
- 12:01Speaker 5: I'm going. You know, man, that's a big step down
- 12:04Speaker 5: from the number one pick in the NFL draft. But
- 12:07Speaker 5: that number one pick from the NFL Draft had come
- 12:10Speaker 5: in to Indiana and he didn't have that kind of
- 12:14Speaker 5: hype either, right, not at all?
- 12:15Speaker 1: So you don't know, no.
- 12:18Speaker 2: What I laugh about. You mentioned Priggymr Houston, chuckle whiz.
- 12:21Speaker 2: You're doing these previews on A and M in Texas
- 12:24Speaker 2: into going back to the old SWC and then Rice
- 12:27Speaker 2: would say everything they got well and in your laughing
- 12:30Speaker 2: because Rice can't compete. But now today in the SEC
- 12:33Speaker 2: South Carolina, Shane Beemer's jobs on the line. I mean,
- 12:36Speaker 2: the people he brought in better be able to play.
- 12:38Speaker 5: Look at Vanderbilt.
- 12:40Speaker 2: But once again, when you're in the SEC, everybody is reloaded.
- 12:43Speaker 2: You're not. They're not going to rely on a lot
- 12:45Speaker 2: of freshmen. These guys are approving and that's why they're
- 12:48Speaker 2: spending money. It's such a gauntlet.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, you're exactly right, but I mean you
- 12:53Speaker 1: just have absolutely no idea. I mean, and when you
- 12:56Speaker 1: recruit a freshman, the likelihood of him stay there for
- 13:00Speaker 1: four years pretty small.
- 13:02Speaker 5: Well now you know what, it was always pretty small, Okay. So,
- 13:08Speaker 5: and you know I'm a recruiting expert because you're studying
- 13:13Speaker 5: so in the old days, you knew that a third
- 13:16Speaker 5: of those that signing class was going to stay here
- 13:20Speaker 5: and at some point start for you. A third of
- 13:24Speaker 5: them would would be here, but they would never make
- 13:28Speaker 5: any impact on your team, and a third of them
- 13:31Speaker 5: would end up not being part of the team. Right
- 13:34Speaker 5: right now, man, I don't know what those percentages are,
- 13:39Speaker 5: but as you mentioned, Rusty, it's high that they're not
- 13:42Speaker 5: going to be around for.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Two or three years. Yeah, freshmen coming in. If they're good, other.
- 13:47Speaker 5: Teams are going to be offering more money, right, and
- 13:51Speaker 5: you're going to have a bidding war. If they're not
- 13:54Speaker 5: any good, they're still good and they're not playing well, right.
- 13:59Speaker 2: They don't.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Marc just kind of rare breed in this color absolutely football,
- 14:05Speaker 1: absolutely is.
- 14:06Speaker 5: I think that speaks to his character, right, And you
- 14:09Speaker 5: see guys who have been you know, I know it
- 14:13Speaker 5: cuts both ways, but for the most part, guys who
- 14:16Speaker 5: stay you know, three even four and sometimes five years,
- 14:21Speaker 5: it's like, Okay, this is a high character guy. I
- 14:24Speaker 5: want him in my locker room, and I think he's
- 14:28Speaker 5: going to be pretty good.
- 14:29Speaker 2: That being said, is I guarantee you a and m
- 14:31Speaker 2: up there, Auntie to keep mister reed.
- 14:33Speaker 5: I'm sure of course.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Of course you know what's again is and you can
- 14:37Speaker 2: send that money to mel kiper Junior care of this
- 14:40Speaker 2: station for what Chip just told you. But yeah, it's
- 14:43Speaker 2: it's the way the game's being played anymore. It's wow.
- 14:48Speaker 2: I mean, you look at it and when I still
- 14:51Speaker 2: can't get over whatever sport you watch, I mean it's
- 14:53Speaker 2: like they're got to say where the guy transferred from.
- 14:56Speaker 2: I mean it's like half the baseball players, softball, basketball.
- 14:59Speaker 1: They have schools listed now, like multiple schools exactly, so
- 15:03Speaker 1: most of them have you know, this is the third
- 15:05Speaker 1: school at minimum, and always.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Go by by.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Now.
- 15:07Speaker 2: In basketball, you've been here for the whole season going through,
- 15:10Speaker 2: You're you're not really transfer anymore. You're actually on the
- 15:13Speaker 2: in and men's basketball team or the in and women's
- 15:16Speaker 2: basketball team. But uh, it's amazing basketball.
- 15:19Speaker 5: Football, by the way, I know.
- 15:21Speaker 2: It's just it's it's just phenomenal. But at least Elko
- 15:25Speaker 2: did touch on there's only one transfer or to Windle.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Now it's like there's not two per year, because that
- 15:32Speaker 2: was that was just how could you form a team
- 15:34Speaker 2: when you had two different transports?
- 15:36Speaker 5: What else stood to it out to you? See, to
- 15:39Speaker 5: me it was all the new faces. What stood out
- 15:42Speaker 5: to you as you said, I just.
- 15:44Speaker 2: The new faces, And you do wonder and we're not
- 15:48Speaker 2: going to know when do we go out about the
- 15:51Speaker 2: meshing of the staff because once again, as you got
- 15:54Speaker 2: a new offensive coordinator and let's be ask client was
- 15:57Speaker 2: only here two years and you do like this, what
- 16:01Speaker 2: do we always say about all the continuity and the staff,
- 16:04Speaker 2: all the assistants back and all this, Like you said,
- 16:06Speaker 2: well anymore there's such reshuffle, and let's be honest. I
- 16:10Speaker 2: don't care what sport you guys, is it a twenty
- 16:12Speaker 2: four to seven whether you're yes.
- 16:14Speaker 5: But but I think I think this staff is just
- 16:16Speaker 5: critical right in any sport, in any sport, right, good
- 16:22Speaker 5: assistant coaches to me are just critical.
- 16:24Speaker 2: But I think Elko touched on it because everybody wants
- 16:27Speaker 2: to nitpick. You know, he didn't go out and hire
- 16:30Speaker 2: a lot of people outside. He pretty much promoted a
- 16:33Speaker 2: lot of guys inside. In the bottom line, Elka said
- 16:35Speaker 2: he's going to do what he feels more comfortable.
- 16:37Speaker 5: And I will say this, if he's as good at
- 16:40Speaker 5: evaluating assistance as he has talent, yeah, then absolutely he'll
- 16:45Speaker 5: be fine.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Why should some make concise?
- 16:47Speaker 1: Well, the other thing is, okay, Colin Klein didn't leave
- 16:50Speaker 1: for you this even job true have to become a
- 16:53Speaker 1: head coach, that is all my mater. Yeah, yes, I
- 16:55Speaker 1: mean yeah, dream job for him.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Yes, And I think the same thing is I think
- 17:02Speaker 5: it's already happening with assistants, even more so in this
- 17:06Speaker 5: day and age as the players.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Right, I think once again is bottom line and it's
- 17:11Speaker 2: coming off eleven win season. They made the college football Playoff.
- 17:15Speaker 2: I mean, everything is rosy right now, and we haven't
- 17:20Speaker 2: said that in a while with the Jimbo era. You know,
- 17:22Speaker 2: it's it's like there was a lot of why aren't
- 17:25Speaker 2: they winning with all this talent at one hundred five
- 17:28Speaker 2: thousand seat stadium. Well, now they expect to reload and
- 17:32Speaker 2: the fans expect that, and that's what the and the
- 17:35Speaker 2: Elkos basically said, that's that's what you should expect.
- 17:38Speaker 1: Yeah. So again though, you also with great results come
- 17:44Speaker 1: higher expectations, and so year three, you'd like to see
- 17:48Speaker 1: him taking a step of those step foward. Well that
- 17:50Speaker 1: means at least winning a playoff game, right, So I
- 17:53Speaker 1: mean you always want to keep progressing, which is very
- 17:57Speaker 1: very difficult.
- 17:57Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm trying to said that you put that well
- 18:00Speaker 5: tag at the end because it's really hard, really hard.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Last year, just time Texas was looking to go into
- 18:09Speaker 2: the College Football Player for the third straight time, they
- 18:11Speaker 2: were number one. You look about how far they fell quickly,
- 18:16Speaker 2: and people out there were not happy the fact that
- 18:19Speaker 2: they didn't make the College Football Player right third Street.
- 18:21Speaker 5: And they had won two in a row. I mean
- 18:23Speaker 5: they've been to in a row and one games one games.
- 18:26Speaker 1: But Indiana two years ago they made the playoffs, lost
- 18:29Speaker 1: first round and then they came back to tak the
- 18:32Speaker 1: ultimate step.
- 18:32Speaker 6: Right.
- 18:33Speaker 2: They are the poster chick.
- 18:34Speaker 1: They're the model because.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Okay, we want to do that. That's what people say, Like,
- 18:38Speaker 2: I don't care if you're Oregon or whatever, because Oregon's
- 18:40Speaker 2: getting tired or not win inter national, no doubt, no
- 18:42Speaker 2: matter who you are, we want to be Indiana. If
- 18:44Speaker 2: Indiana can do it, and let's be honest, the fact
- 18:47Speaker 2: that Indiana did do it, you're gonna get more coaches fired.
- 18:50Speaker 5: Hey, and'll get more coaches fire.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Hey, if Indiana could do.
- 18:53Speaker 1: It, why any anyone.
- 18:55Speaker 2: You don't think he expects to win next year at
- 18:58Speaker 2: all with Kiffin.
- 18:59Speaker 5: But again when that, when that, it's.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Maybe the greatest story college football man for a long time.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I thought Bill Snyder was, yes, and what he did
- 19:06Speaker 1: at Kansas Cittate, but this one tops it because they
- 19:10Speaker 1: won the NASCE championship.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Yeah, without a doubt. Yeah, you know it's it's like
- 19:14Speaker 2: one of those we love sports so much five years ago,
- 19:16Speaker 2: so you know it's gonna win a championship in football Indiana, Like.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Are you crazy?
- 19:22Speaker 6: Right?
- 19:22Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 19:23Speaker 5: Nuts?
- 19:23Speaker 2: Not Indiana State Division two. Uh, you know, Indiana, you.
- 19:28Speaker 5: Have to have so many things happened. I don't care
- 19:32Speaker 5: if you're Indiana or Alabama. You have to have so
- 19:36Speaker 5: many things happened to do that. Right, Well, I mean
- 19:39Speaker 5: you have to win a game. You're that you were
- 19:42Speaker 5: going to lose Indiana. Yeah, Indiana did that.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Right with a spectacular cat.
- 19:47Speaker 5: Right they had one. They had one, uh, a bad
- 19:51Speaker 5: injury all year and that was at the end of
- 19:54Speaker 5: the season. Right, You've got to you know, you're very
- 19:58Speaker 5: goes out. You're right, You're not winning the National Championship. Right,
- 20:04Speaker 5: Marcel Reid goes out last year, you're not playing Miami.
- 20:07Speaker 5: It's just not happening, right. I mean, you think you've
- 20:11Speaker 5: got to have everything happened right.
- 20:15Speaker 2: And you talk about that fine line, and also.
- 20:17Speaker 5: And you better have some you better have some players
- 20:20Speaker 5: that have been there before in the wars. I mean,
- 20:25Speaker 5: I don't think you do it with freshmen at sophomores.
- 20:29Speaker 5: And I don't care what the situation is that we've
- 20:32Speaker 5: talked about. And these guys could have come from somewhere else,
- 20:35Speaker 5: which in Indiana. You know, they they were seventeen of
- 20:38Speaker 5: them were with him at James Madison, Right, he had
- 20:41Speaker 5: a he had an old team last year.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Right.
- 20:45Speaker 5: And most of these teams who win, you look at them,
- 20:49Speaker 5: they have got more than a handful of guys that
- 20:52Speaker 5: have been in the battle.
- 20:53Speaker 2: You know, you bring up a good point because I
- 20:56Speaker 2: go back, you go back to Elka's first year when
- 20:58Speaker 2: they knows Dove dating five. I'm sitting here going, that's
- 21:01Speaker 2: typical A and M football team. They start and then
- 21:04Speaker 2: you expect maybe they're gonna not. You think where that
- 21:07Speaker 2: team went in one year to go from eight and
- 21:10Speaker 2: five to eleven and two. Yeah, so you're talking about
- 21:12Speaker 2: what Indiana, but you're seeing what Elko and his staff
- 21:15Speaker 2: can do. Because would anybody been surprised if they won
- 21:18Speaker 2: eight and five again this year. I wouldn't have been
- 21:20Speaker 2: on heels because that's what they do. But no, Elko
- 21:24Speaker 2: slammed it down it well, and I.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Think you have to learn from what happened is that
- 21:29Speaker 1: they slowed down. They weren't in Elko said that today, said,
- 21:32Speaker 1: you know, when we were at our best, we're good
- 21:34Speaker 1: enough to win the NAST championship, but we couldn't maintain it.
- 21:36Speaker 1: And really, right there at South Carolina game, that's where
- 21:41Speaker 1: it started. And they didn't play particularly well the rest
- 21:45Speaker 1: of the year. No, even though they won that game,
- 21:47Speaker 1: even though they won that non conference game, they didn't
- 21:50Speaker 1: play well well. They didn't play well against Texas, and
- 21:52Speaker 1: they didn't play well against Miami. So the thing, you know,
- 21:57Speaker 1: he said, you know last year we're talking about finishing games.
- 22:00Speaker 1: I think now they've got to finish the season because
- 22:03Speaker 1: they didn't finish the season the way they wanted to.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Consistency an urgency as we talked, and like I said,
- 22:09Speaker 2: when you look at where they went from year one
- 22:10Speaker 2: to year two. You know, once again, is that's amazing.
- 22:15Speaker 2: You go from it's hard to go from eight to
- 22:17Speaker 2: eleven wins in the SEC I don't know who you
- 22:19Speaker 2: are or what you do. And the fact that they
- 22:22Speaker 2: did it when they walked off that field in Vegas,
- 22:24Speaker 2: that was not a good football team. You know.
- 22:28Speaker 5: Scheduling has a lot to do with it too. I
- 22:30Speaker 5: don't care, you know, and their their schedule this year
- 22:33Speaker 5: is not as conducive in my mind.
- 22:36Speaker 1: No, it's not as it was last year. Right, you're right,
- 22:39Speaker 1: but I mean last year.
- 22:41Speaker 5: Now, if you're good enough, it doesn't matter. I get that, Okay,
- 22:43Speaker 5: if you're good enough, you go into the opponent's place
- 22:46Speaker 5: and you beat them. And I understand that. It's just
- 22:51Speaker 5: it's really hard in this league to go in any
- 22:54Speaker 5: opponents building and win. Yeah.
- 22:57Speaker 1: I mean last year at this time I was I
- 22:59Speaker 1: was looking at the schedule, going who, I don't know, And.
- 23:02Speaker 5: It turned out it wasn't that daunting.
- 23:04Speaker 1: It wasn't that though.
- 23:05Speaker 5: We didn't know that.
- 23:06Speaker 2: No, because we don't know about so much about it.
- 23:08Speaker 5: We don't know that much this coming year right season
- 23:12Speaker 5: about where they have to go.
- 23:13Speaker 1: It's like maybe they're not as preseason, you know, top
- 23:17Speaker 1: twenty five teams, Yes, and they weren't turned down in
- 23:20Speaker 1: the regular season. Yes, And you know, I mean there
- 23:23Speaker 1: was a lot of teams that were like, oh, this
- 23:25Speaker 1: is gonna be a really tough game, and then it
- 23:28Speaker 1: turned out not really.
- 23:29Speaker 2: I were down for a loss. I had Texas down
- 23:33Speaker 2: for a loss because you're going on the road. Those
- 23:35Speaker 2: are tough places. You're eight in five. They might lose
- 23:37Speaker 2: in Missourisu. You had for a loss. Definitely a loss, yeah,
- 23:41Speaker 2: because you never won there. That's for losses right there.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Yeaheah to go into Baton Rouge and win, that was
- 23:46Speaker 1: like no, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah in the stadium, which
- 23:51Speaker 1: might have been the high point of the year.
- 23:53Speaker 5: It was probably that probably wasn't the high point, you know,
- 23:57Speaker 5: I still say because of the quality. Uh, getting that
- 24:00Speaker 5: win in South Bend in the last few seconds, that
- 24:03Speaker 5: was that started the whole That jump started the whole season.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Fourth damn play that started the whole season. That's a
- 24:10Speaker 1: huge as a huge conference builder.
- 24:12Speaker 5: Huge and just hey, you went to South Bend and
- 24:14Speaker 5: you won, and that was a good football team. It
- 24:17Speaker 5: was right, you beat a really good football.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Yes, they should have in Miami should have been home.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Uh no, that boat should You're right, they both should
- 24:28Speaker 1: have been.
- 24:28Speaker 5: James Madison is not too probably not too late. Uh,
- 24:34Speaker 5: Rusty Berson. Robert Cessna joined us on Mondays. It's the

- 29:16Speaker 5: because Aggie baseball, which we will talk about. I'm want
- 29:19Speaker 5: to talk basketball right now. Uh, the Aggies have lost
- 29:23Speaker 5: four in a row.
- 29:25Speaker 2: I blame on Rusty.
- 29:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 29:28Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 29:29Speaker 5: If he handed gotten season tickets, they'd probably be undefeed.
- 29:31Speaker 1: That season is nineteen ninety eight.
- 29:33Speaker 5: Come on right, Uh, so you've enjoyed much of the season,
- 29:40Speaker 5: which which should absolutely here's the deal, I send the
- 29:45Speaker 5: first hour. I'm want of your opinion on this, because
- 29:48Speaker 5: you you watched the team a lot. Rusty. I thought
- 29:51Speaker 5: they looked tired at Vanderbilt. I just thought they looked tired.
- 29:56Speaker 5: That's the best way I can put it.
- 29:59Speaker 1: They look tired against Florida. I thought they looked tired
- 30:01Speaker 1: against Vanderbilt. Yes, and they had. If you look back
- 30:05Speaker 1: the previous games prior to each of those, those are
- 30:08Speaker 1: gut punches Alabama and Missouri and the Missouri shot where
- 30:13Speaker 1: you had so both those games you had the last
- 30:16Speaker 1: shot to possibly win, and those just take a lot
- 30:20Speaker 1: out of you. And there was that five game window
- 30:23Speaker 1: where I thought it was really important to go for
- 30:25Speaker 1: them to go two and three. Well they went one
- 30:26Speaker 1: to four. And you know that's frustrating, but they're still sitting.
- 30:30Speaker 5: There four points going five and oh exactly are close
- 30:34Speaker 5: to it.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Well except for Florida, you know what I mean that Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 30:38Speaker 1: but you know they were tired. They absolutely looked like
- 30:42Speaker 1: they didn't have legs. Correct, They missed so many shots
- 30:45Speaker 1: in the paint correct, and it just and they shot
- 30:49Speaker 1: the ball really well the first half against Missouri, but
- 30:53Speaker 1: then they couldn't finish well.
- 30:55Speaker 5: Ruby Domingus is really hurting them right now. You cannot
- 30:58Speaker 5: buy a basket.
- 31:00Speaker 1: And he hit the first shot against Vandy. Yeah, and
- 31:02Speaker 1: it kind of swirled around. Yeah, it wasn't pure, No,
- 31:06Speaker 1: it wasn't, but it went in, went in. I was like, okay,
- 31:08Speaker 1: maybe that's what it takes. It wasn't, it wasn't. And
- 31:11Speaker 1: he you know, he not only did miss every other
- 31:14Speaker 1: shot he took, but he had some real short I
- 31:17Speaker 1: mean jump shots that he got to hit, Yes, like
- 31:20Speaker 1: you know, seven footers wide open. Yes, and you've got
- 31:23Speaker 1: to be able to do that. That's what he's here
- 31:25Speaker 1: for to shoot. Yeah, And you know, God love Frederico
- 31:30Speaker 1: is just sometimes he finally scores for the first time since.
- 31:34Speaker 5: The lame He was the only one with a plus.
- 31:37Speaker 5: Well that's not true. Ali Diva had a plus five.
- 31:41Speaker 5: Jbie Vincent was plus two and Frederica was plus four.
- 31:45Speaker 5: Everybody else was minus on Saturday.
- 31:48Speaker 1: The rebounds, No.
- 31:49Speaker 5: Just on the plus minus on point score when you're
- 31:51Speaker 5: on the court.
- 31:52Speaker 1: Oh well, he also had five fouls in about five
- 31:56Speaker 1: minutes of total action. How long did he play there?
- 31:59Speaker 5: He played third team minutes, had four fouls.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Okay, called the technical foul, which I'm not sure that
- 32:04Speaker 1: was all about.
- 32:05Speaker 5: I don't know what that was. But he did get
- 32:08Speaker 5: four rebounds, and he got two offensive rebounds. I thought,
- 32:13Speaker 5: of course, he hadn't played at all. I thought he
- 32:16Speaker 5: finally showed a little bit of life on Saturday. Actually,
- 32:20Speaker 5: we talk about Federico.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Texas A and M's best player right now to me
- 32:23Speaker 1: is Marcus hild Well.
- 32:25Speaker 5: He certainly, he certainly was on Saturday.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Oh but I mean he also the way he drives
- 32:30Speaker 1: the paint when they need a basket so much, been
- 32:33Speaker 1: very aggressive. Oh and he's just his reverse layups.
- 32:36Speaker 5: By the way, Roley Griffin has had two bad games.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Yes, and he was not himself against ag was not
- 32:42Speaker 1: because he looked tired.
- 32:44Speaker 5: They all looked tired.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Okay, you said tired. I got home. I was busy,
- 32:47Speaker 2: said Wednesday. I got home and watched the second half
- 32:50Speaker 2: mis game and watched man, I thought they looked uncomfortable.
- 32:54Speaker 2: And that gets back to me, is you don't make shots.
- 32:56Speaker 2: You don't you don't get.
- 32:57Speaker 5: When you're not making shots, you don't look good.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Well, you're not playing well. And this is a team
- 33:01Speaker 2: that plays a lot on you know runs. Yes, to me,
- 33:04Speaker 2: they looked uncomfortable, which.
- 33:07Speaker 5: Well, because here's the I thought Wednesday, Russell, you watch
- 33:11Speaker 5: that team Wednesday night. I thought Missouri looked like a
- 33:13Speaker 5: team that could win, not only get in the tournament,
- 33:15Speaker 5: but win games in. They had the size that God
- 33:19Speaker 5: was huge, and they were great. And then I watched
- 33:23Speaker 5: Saturday night against Texas. They're at home, their first sellout
- 33:27Speaker 5: of the year. They delay the game because of traffic
- 33:30Speaker 5: because the officials can't get in the game, and I'm going,
- 33:35Speaker 5: where the hell was this Wednesday night? This team was terrible.
- 33:38Speaker 5: That wasn't the team I watched Wednesday night.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Shots in, the shots go in. It's amazing thing. How
- 33:44Speaker 1: pretty bad?
- 33:45Speaker 5: But but they but but I realized that we're so
- 33:47Speaker 5: much bigger than A and m Texas isn't a big team.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Well, Texas got the one big they got.
- 33:51Speaker 5: The one big kN and he was good.
- 33:53Speaker 1: He's good.
- 33:54Speaker 5: He can be a little bit of a rim protector.
- 33:57Speaker 1: But but they weren't going to get the dunks like
- 33:59Speaker 1: they got to saying them again.
- 34:01Speaker 5: Not because of the style, right, They're not going up
- 34:03Speaker 5: and down. Texas wants to slow them down and they did.
- 34:07Speaker 5: But still I'm going good gosh A and them would
- 34:11Speaker 5: have beatn that team like Texas did on Saturday night.
- 34:15Speaker 1: And so when you're looking at the rest of the way,
- 34:17Speaker 1: you said, oh man, right now, Texas playing better than
- 34:19Speaker 1: in now and you know they they host them. But
- 34:23Speaker 1: I mean that's the old Miss game Wednesday night is
- 34:25Speaker 1: so important huge. I mean, if we're going to talk
- 34:29Speaker 1: about this team making the.
- 34:30Speaker 5: Term now, Oklahomba's playing better of course now that they
- 34:35Speaker 5: have to go up there, but I would argue these
- 34:37Speaker 5: next two games, they have to get those games.
- 34:40Speaker 1: If they watch if you go to Oklahoma, if did
- 34:44Speaker 1: you see that, No, I didn't the popcorn machine caught
- 34:47Speaker 1: off fire, set off.
- 34:48Speaker 5: The sprinklers watch that game. I didn't know that.
- 34:51Speaker 1: I mean, they had to lay the game because the
- 34:53Speaker 1: sprinklers are going on.
- 34:55Speaker 2: So they did not know that weather.
- 34:57Speaker 1: No, the popcorner Sine up on the concourse literally was
- 35:01Speaker 1: on fire, was pouring in smokes.
- 35:04Speaker 5: No, I'm watching pictures. I mean that was a big fire.
- 35:07Speaker 1: It was a big fire.
- 35:08Speaker 2: No, I didn't know that story.
- 35:12Speaker 5: That's one of the few SEC games I did not
- 35:16Speaker 5: watch this weekend. But but back to back to old
- 35:20Speaker 5: miss coming in. They've lost seven straight games this game,
- 35:25Speaker 5: you know, and they played a rivalry game and they
- 35:29Speaker 5: were horrible Mississippi State.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Yeah, and they were home against Missippi State.
- 35:34Speaker 5: They just punked them.
- 35:35Speaker 2: They did.
- 35:36Speaker 5: And you have got to find a way. Uh. And
- 35:40Speaker 5: I don't care if it's by one point. You've got
- 35:43Speaker 5: to win Wednesday night. If you have hopes in my
- 35:46Speaker 5: mind of getting to the tournament, that's just huge.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Didn't like that last played. I didn't either, Missouri. I'm
- 35:55Speaker 2: thinking I didn't either. But you're not going to get
- 35:58Speaker 2: a phone call, you know.
- 35:59Speaker 1: Well, I don't know, Cees.
- 36:02Speaker 5: My thing is at the end of games, I hate
- 36:05Speaker 5: dribbling the ball outside and taking a while three as
- 36:08Speaker 5: the clock expiring, I want to go to the bucket,
- 36:11Speaker 5: right I do. I want to go to the bucket
- 36:15Speaker 5: and he just didn't have the ball the driving lane
- 36:22Speaker 5: right against those two big guys that he was going against.
- 36:25Speaker 5: It was just it was it wasn't It was unfortunate.
- 36:29Speaker 1: What I really hated, though, was the previous possession you're
- 36:33Speaker 1: talking about. It was a long three porter by Rilin. Yes,
- 36:37Speaker 1: and you know, I just didn't like that shot, and
- 36:39Speaker 1: so that gave Missouri the opportune to go down the
- 36:42Speaker 1: court and immediately have the aly oop, I mean, which
- 36:46Speaker 1: was the game winner right there. But the long rebound
- 36:50Speaker 1: they got after Rolin's missed three was big, and I
- 36:53Speaker 1: didn't like that shot either.
- 36:55Speaker 5: Yeah. You know, in a one point game, there's just
- 36:58Speaker 5: so much you could go back and look at and say,
- 37:02Speaker 5: you know, they should have done this, should have done that.
- 37:06Speaker 5: I don't know. And you just mentioned Marcus Hill. Maybe
- 37:09Speaker 5: I put the ball in his hands at the end
- 37:11Speaker 5: of the game, Rustee. Yeah, I mean you're wondering, who
- 37:15Speaker 5: do you want with the ball?
- 37:17Speaker 2: Now?
- 37:17Speaker 1: What Marcus is doing is driving and then when he
- 37:20Speaker 1: feels the pressure he is really then he's kicking. But
- 37:24Speaker 1: he had he doesn't. He got one shot blocked against Vanderbilt,
- 37:27Speaker 1: just one, I mean went in there so often, and
- 37:30Speaker 1: I'll take my chances with that because I listened. Love
- 37:33Speaker 1: his guts and the way he plays. I mean he's
- 37:36Speaker 1: smallest guy in the court most time, and he plays
- 37:38Speaker 1: a lot bigger than the end he does.
- 37:42Speaker 5: No, I don't think so, although again, you know ag
- 37:46Speaker 5: had eight points. Unfortunately they're used to you know, he
- 37:50Speaker 5: did have a loving boards, but they're used to about
- 37:53Speaker 5: four to six to eight more points from him than that.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Well, the thing is, Domingus is going to have to
- 37:57Speaker 1: keep shooting because the only way shooters breaking is by
- 38:00Speaker 1: shooting correct right, and he he he gave up some shots.
- 38:04Speaker 1: I thought of it's vandy that he probably shouldn't, but
- 38:08Speaker 1: that mental right, He's got no confidence right now because
- 38:11Speaker 1: you know he can shoot.
- 38:12Speaker 5: Absolutely.
- 38:12Speaker 1: We've seen him hitting nine threes in a game. It
- 38:15Speaker 1: doesn't matter they were playing against I mean, inferior competition,
- 38:18Speaker 1: but you still got to hit nine threes. I could
- 38:20Speaker 1: hit nine threes in the gym if you gave me
- 38:22Speaker 1: an hour with nobody on me.
- 38:24Speaker 5: Look once. Once he did that, obviously he drew a
- 38:27Speaker 5: lot more attention. Sure, but he has gotten good looks.
- 38:31Speaker 5: I think.
- 38:34Speaker 1: Improved defensively.
- 38:35Speaker 5: I think he has improved defensively, but.
- 38:38Speaker 1: I think he's going to play much earlier season because
- 38:40Speaker 1: he was so slow.
- 38:41Speaker 5: Correct, Yes, now I'm.
- 38:43Speaker 1: With you, Yeah, but he's really his footwork is a
- 38:46Speaker 1: lot better defensively.
- 38:48Speaker 5: It just you know, Vanderbilt is a good team too.
- 38:51Speaker 5: I mean, I'm telling you. They did play well. They
- 38:55Speaker 5: hit some shots.
- 38:56Speaker 2: That Nicols got.
- 38:57Speaker 5: He was well, he could shoot the three. Oh god,
- 39:02Speaker 5: he's been good all year. He's been very consistent with
- 39:05Speaker 5: the three all year long. But Vanderbilt's playing without one
- 39:08Speaker 5: of their best players, their guard, Miles Duke. I mean,
- 39:11Speaker 5: he was a huge part of what they were doing earlier,
- 39:14Speaker 5: and one of the reasons they lost those few games
- 39:17Speaker 5: when they went on the losing streak was because he
- 39:20Speaker 5: went out. And then their best player, Tyler Tanner, ends
- 39:24Speaker 5: up with four points and I'm going you tell me
- 39:27Speaker 5: that before that game, and and it was gonna win
- 39:29Speaker 5: by ten easy, yeah, And I just they just weren't
- 39:34Speaker 5: what they've been on Saturday.
- 39:37Speaker 1: You're exactly right, but they've got to In my mind,
- 39:41Speaker 1: they still need to win to take all I mean
- 39:44Speaker 1: doubt remaining. Still need five wins, and that's gonna be tough.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Five wins because you got to you gotta steal one
- 39:52Speaker 1: and you know ten, Mike, you think they have to
- 39:54Speaker 1: be twelve? Now I think they ten four. I think
- 39:56Speaker 1: they need to get four six more. They got to
- 39:59Speaker 1: get to eleven, so seven, So you really need to
- 40:02Speaker 1: go four and two. And it starts on Wednesday night,
- 40:04Speaker 1: and four and two means you're gonna have to beat
- 40:06Speaker 1: somebody that.
- 40:07Speaker 5: I would put him at twenty one and ten for
- 40:09Speaker 5: the year and said the league, which.
- 40:13Speaker 2: Seven in the league.
- 40:14Speaker 5: Yeah, you don't want them getting ten and having a
- 40:17Speaker 5: sweat right now.
- 40:18Speaker 1: The you don't want to leave n CA committe because
- 40:21Speaker 1: they don't have a top twenty five win, not a
- 40:23Speaker 1: single one. And that's what was so disappointing against Missouri
- 40:27Speaker 1: and you know, Vandy, because here's your opportunity to get
- 40:30Speaker 1: top twenty five win.
- 40:31Speaker 2: When I turned TV on Wednesday at halftime whatever it was,
- 40:34Speaker 2: and I saw scroll across the buzz and one, I said,
- 40:37Speaker 2: ain't was gonna lose. I said, it's karma, I said,
- 40:39Speaker 2: buzz one tonight, I said, And sure enough they ended
- 40:43Speaker 2: up losing. But you know it's like, I do believe
- 40:45Speaker 2: in karma, and uh, they got the losses out of
- 40:48Speaker 2: the way. So they win these two games, well they'll.
- 40:51Speaker 1: Be It's going to be really hard to win at Arkansas,
- 40:54Speaker 1: I mean right, I mean, so you've got to get
- 40:57Speaker 1: one impossible, you can you can possibly get one of Oklahoma.
- 41:01Speaker 1: You gotta be Texas at home, and then you know,
- 41:03Speaker 1: then you can split those last certainly be well, got
- 41:08Speaker 1: Kentucky has to.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Be a rival game that could be great.
- 41:11Speaker 1: Well, Kentucky's been and you still got to go to
- 41:13Speaker 1: LSU the last week or the last game of.
- 41:15Speaker 2: Season, and I don't go there win.
- 41:18Speaker 1: LSU is not a good team record wise, but they
- 41:20Speaker 1: play everybody close just about.
- 41:22Speaker 5: You know, I was looking a little Barney because he
- 41:25Speaker 5: put you know, he puts out things among the falling
- 41:30Speaker 5: all of most of the teams he had in the tournament. Nebraska,
- 41:35Speaker 5: of course, Michigan State, Clemson in North Carolina State, A
- 41:40Speaker 5: and M S, m U U, C l A, Virginia Tech,
- 41:44Speaker 5: all those on the falling page. That doesn't mean My
- 41:48Speaker 5: point is Lonardi still has A and M in the tournament.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Okay, but he had him last week as the nine
- 41:56Speaker 1: seed before they lost to vany correct, So I'm sure
- 41:58Speaker 1: that drops down to you know, a lower seed now
- 42:02Speaker 1: so now you're talking about on the bubble there.
- 42:05Speaker 5: Yeah, they're not on the bubble yet. Okay, the bubble
- 42:09Speaker 5: is s M U the last four buys meeting their in.
- 42:14Speaker 1: It would help a the M. If s M you
- 42:16Speaker 1: could win some more game, they would, Yeah, and they got.
- 42:18Speaker 5: They lost a horrible game against UH Syracuse this weekend.
- 42:23Speaker 5: UH the last four in or U, c l A,
- 42:26Speaker 5: Santa Clara, TCU, and San Diego State the first four out.
- 42:31Speaker 5: Missouri is on the top of that list, and like
- 42:36Speaker 5: I said, if Missouri doesn't make it, I'm going good gosh,
- 42:40Speaker 5: that wasted a lot of talent on that team. They're huge.
- 42:43Speaker 5: They're as big as Florida.
- 42:45Speaker 1: They're they're huge, and they're athletic. I would say they're
- 42:48Speaker 1: more athletic than Florida. They're not as good as Florida,
- 42:52Speaker 1: but there's a coaching athletes are so good and Florida's
- 42:57Speaker 1: just gianting no block shots and then they you know,
- 43:00Speaker 1: I mean Flora is really really playing well.
- 43:03Speaker 2: Yeah, because Gold they just reflect.
- 43:05Speaker 5: I still don't have a clue how they lost at
- 43:09Speaker 5: home to Texas on Saturday night three days after that,
- 43:15Speaker 5: because I was I was so impressed. Yes, with Missouri win.
- 43:21Speaker 2: Yes, couldn't handle success.

- 45:14Speaker 1: If you need somebody to talk about movie stars and
- 45:16Speaker 1: stuff like that man died today. I'm just sick about that.
- 45:21Speaker 1: This guy was was the quintessential American actor. He's one
- 45:25Speaker 1: of the best.
- 45:26Speaker 5: Goodness. I mean, you can't name all of them, you can't.
- 45:30Speaker 5: I said at four o'clock. I could start now, but
- 45:32Speaker 5: I don't have time. I mean, he has just been
- 45:35Speaker 5: You start naming movies and it's just Robert Duvall, Augustus McCrae.
- 45:42Speaker 5: I got Woodrow. It's been a party, ain't it?
- 45:45Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 45:45Speaker 5: Today ninety five?
- 45:47Speaker 1: He was a great life.
- 45:49Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, was it ever? Unbelievable accomplished life from
- 45:55Speaker 5: from Boo Radley into Kill a Mockingbird. That's how you
- 45:59Speaker 5: start your career. Go from there. I mean good.
- 46:03Speaker 1: That was his first movie.
- 46:04Speaker 5: I don't know if it was his first. It was
- 46:06Speaker 5: his first, maybe titled.
- 46:08Speaker 2: You have to get Gary Blair to give his top five.
- 46:11Speaker 2: Because Gary went to all his movies, you.
- 46:12Speaker 1: Know, I'm sure he did. I mean most of them.
- 46:15Speaker 1: He went by himself because wait, did I mean when
- 46:18Speaker 1: his wife is living in an Arkansas lunch?
- 46:21Speaker 5: Lonesome Dove is still the greatest Western of all time.
- 46:24Speaker 5: And that's just one of the great characters of all time.
- 46:26Speaker 5: And when he says he thinks that's his best role,
- 46:29Speaker 5: you better listen to it.
- 46:30Speaker 2: It was about Gary Blair, then Lonesome Dove. It was
- 46:32Speaker 2: his life.
- 46:33Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, I love that. Baseball season started this weekend.
- 46:39Speaker 2: Hey Mike, my daughter went to the opening game. I
- 46:41Speaker 2: wasn't there, but at least there's a sister there.
- 46:43Speaker 5: If you open it, you'll you'll probably get the I'm
- 46:46Speaker 5: gonna make a prediction here, here we go.
- 46:49Speaker 1: If if you continue to average fifteen runs a game,
- 46:53Speaker 1: it's gonna be a good season.
- 46:56Speaker 5: Man.
- 46:57Speaker 1: You think, yeah, I'm gonna go out on that teeth
- 47:00Speaker 1: in the CC. Yeah, I'm gonna go out on that limb,
- 47:03Speaker 1: I tell you what. But really, the impressive thing to
- 47:05Speaker 1: me about all weekend I watched all three of these games,
- 47:08Speaker 1: was that they they really did a great job of
- 47:12Speaker 1: attacking pitches, getting bareing up pitches and just driving them.
- 47:18Speaker 1: And it was just like, yet not all of them
- 47:21Speaker 1: fell in and they left a lot in the first game,
- 47:23Speaker 1: they left a lot of guys on base. I mean,
- 47:26Speaker 1: that game could have been a blowout early and they
- 47:29Speaker 1: didn't you know, you know, knock them out there. And
- 47:32Speaker 1: I didn't think today, Oh was really that sharp. In
- 47:36Speaker 1: the first thing, he hit ninety five and then that
- 47:38Speaker 1: fastball started falling off and he gave up the two
- 47:41Speaker 1: run homer and they're they're in that game late, and
- 47:44Speaker 1: then they had him rent rented. What I loved about
- 47:47Speaker 1: Saturday is they sent up I can't remember fifteen batters
- 47:51Speaker 1: in the first inning or something like that.
- 47:53Speaker 5: You know, they put nine run the ninth spot.
- 47:55Speaker 1: I'm like, Okay, they just tucked all life out of
- 47:58Speaker 1: that team.
- 47:58Speaker 5: Yes.
- 47:59Speaker 1: And then, like Early said, I really like the way
- 48:02Speaker 1: they changed their offensive approach on Sunday with the north
- 48:05Speaker 1: wind coming in. They went from hey, we're gonna drive
- 48:08Speaker 1: the ball out of ballpark too, We're gonna hit line
- 48:10Speaker 1: drives and opposite field, opposite field. Yes, yeah, And so
- 48:14Speaker 1: I loved the approach. I mean, Cayden Surreal was incredible.
- 48:18Speaker 1: I mean that guy, he was the SEC Player of
- 48:21Speaker 1: the week. Yeah, that's that's well deserved because that guy,
- 48:25Speaker 1: oh something else man, he had good numbers last year.
- 48:28Speaker 2: He came out.
- 48:29Speaker 5: So we always say that's baseball. And and they could
- 48:31Speaker 5: lose tomorrow night. You don't expect them to. You get
- 48:34Speaker 5: A and M Corporus, you get three with pen, you
- 48:36Speaker 5: get Lamar before they go to Arlington and play in
- 48:40Speaker 5: the tournament up there. Uh so so they they have
- 48:43Speaker 5: a chance to get a little momentum here early and
- 48:46Speaker 5: and I think that's you know, I think that's yes,
- 48:50Speaker 5: they do. You know, but again, you've got some guy,
- 48:53Speaker 5: You've got a mix here. You've got guys that have
- 48:56Speaker 5: been around. Uh, You've got these guys back that were
- 48:59Speaker 5: hurt that are really good players, right, You've got some
- 49:03Speaker 5: guys that he's brought in that are apparently really good players.
- 49:08Speaker 5: So and then you look rusting at the bullpen and
- 49:12Speaker 5: the starters, and I know Sedea wasn't particularly sharp, but hey, uh,
- 49:16Speaker 5: let's let's give them a pass with these pitchers that
- 49:19Speaker 5: are just you know, getting started here. But they look
- 49:23Speaker 5: like they have some guys that can shut some people down.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Well, opening nine, I'm like, I look up there and go,
- 49:30Speaker 1: Terrence Keel is hitting the bottom of the order exactly.
- 49:32Speaker 1: I'm pretty good offense, exactly because he was one of
- 49:36Speaker 1: the best players last year.
- 49:37Speaker 2: He was.
- 49:38Speaker 1: Covic looks so so good, you know, and I mean
- 49:41Speaker 1: top to bottom, that lineup is just really really good.
- 49:44Speaker 1: I mean, like you said, they have some guys coming back,
- 49:47Speaker 1: some new guys who.
- 49:49Speaker 5: And Jakopians started out great in both games. He was
- 49:52Speaker 5: he was ill yesterday.
- 49:53Speaker 1: Oh you could just tell his approach. He was so good. Yeah,
- 49:56Speaker 1: I mean, unfortunately, the only guy who had a really
- 49:59Speaker 1: bad week he are for the most part was bar Harrison,
- 50:01Speaker 1: and you know he's gonna come around. He was no
- 50:03Speaker 1: doubt he may have been last year at one point
- 50:06Speaker 1: when he got going, he may have been their most
- 50:08Speaker 1: feared here, and so I really I very optimistic after
- 50:12Speaker 1: one weekend. I know it's Tennessee Tech. But the way
- 50:16Speaker 1: they hit that ball, I mean the way it was,
- 50:18Speaker 1: just the approach. Yeah, I love the approach, the approached
- 50:21Speaker 1: and I love the fact that they changed their approach
- 50:23Speaker 1: when the weather changed.
- 50:25Speaker 5: Yeah, And they talked about that yesterday and then you know,
- 50:28Speaker 5: I was listening to Jordan Wesley Jordan, he was fantastic.
- 50:35Speaker 5: Well yeah, it looks like seven hits, seven of nine
- 50:37Speaker 5: or something like that. But he talked about that. He said,
- 50:41Speaker 5: you know, we know that that Friday night and Saturday
- 50:44Speaker 5: balls were going out that weren't going to go out today, right,
- 50:48Speaker 5: I mean, they just weren't, and so you have to
- 50:51Speaker 5: change your approach. And I love that, you know, I
- 50:54Speaker 5: love the maturity of that thought. And I think Early
- 50:58Speaker 5: like that too. I think he was impressed that. And
- 51:02Speaker 5: obviously you have to tell them, hey, guys, wins from
- 51:05Speaker 5: the North, we ain't hitting anything over the fence. Let's
- 51:09Speaker 5: let's hit line drives and go opposite field. And that's
- 51:11Speaker 5: what they did. So I do like that.
- 51:13Speaker 2: I think maybe something about fourteen runs per game maybe
- 51:16Speaker 2: looking forward.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Well, the other thing I want to touch on is
- 51:20Speaker 1: the Game three starter Sims. He took advantage of the weather,
- 51:24Speaker 1: but he was fantastic. He had a one hit in
- 51:26Speaker 1: six innings. Yeah, he walked to guys, but I mean
- 51:29Speaker 1: I thought he can really We saw fresh Corn as
- 51:32Speaker 1: well come in. Yeah, you know, and we know he
- 51:34Speaker 1: can pitch. Last year in the SEC tournament, he was
- 51:37Speaker 1: he was practically unhittable, and so yeah, you expect him
- 51:41Speaker 1: to be even better and he's probably gonna be your closer.
- 51:44Speaker 1: I would imagine. We'll see it's a nice option to have.
- 51:48Speaker 2: For sure, well, pitching. I'll start with pitching and need
- 51:50Speaker 2: to be better last year, so it's good start see
- 51:52Speaker 2: where they go from there.
- 51:53Speaker 1: I think I was most encouraged by Sims. I mean,
- 51:56Speaker 1: to give up one hit.
- 51:57Speaker 5: If there's twelve other better teams in the SEC, that's scary. Yeah, yeah,
- 52:07Speaker 5: I mean I was. I was a little surprised, I
- 52:10Speaker 5: guess I don't know I was. But if there's twelve
- 52:13Speaker 5: better teams in this league.
- 52:16Speaker 1: It's overreaction, you know, of course it is. It's what
- 52:19Speaker 1: I do. It's where they ended up. They you know,
- 52:21Speaker 1: not not playing well, stretched not even getting in the postseason.
- 52:25Speaker 1: So after being ranked number one. So they were ranked
- 52:28Speaker 1: too high last year. They're definitely ranked too low this year.
- 52:31Speaker 1: I mean, I think Tom will tell, but I think
- 52:34Speaker 1: based on one weekend, I'm very encouraged. You sound the
- 52:38Speaker 1: courage they just I am. I am definitely.
- 52:40Speaker 2: They just need to avoid the injuries, which they didn't
- 52:42Speaker 2: do last year. So let's wait and say they a
- 52:43Speaker 2: lot of early had a lot of bad Luckily he did,
- 52:47Speaker 2: so he's due. You know, he lost like players even
- 52:51Speaker 2: so they should be healthy this year. Yeah.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Well, I'll be watching. This is a team. I'm really
- 52:57Speaker 1: excited about watching how they progressed through throughout the year.
- 53:00Speaker 5: Okay, so I want to go back to hoops on
- 53:03Speaker 5: the national level, just for the last couple of minutes.
- 53:08Speaker 1: So I watch what's that game?
- 53:10Speaker 5: Gosh, what Tech?
- 53:11Speaker 2: What a game?
- 53:12Speaker 5: Texas Tech is a Final Four caliber team. I don't
- 53:15Speaker 5: think there's any question they were coming off a loss.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Yes they were, And so you didn't te you beat them? Right?
- 53:21Speaker 5: No, TC, It wasn't Tech that that that TC beat.
- 53:24Speaker 5: I mean it wasn't. I forget who TCU beat b
- 53:28Speaker 5: y U?
- 53:28Speaker 1: I know that guy? Okay, uh uh oh, you know
- 53:31Speaker 1: I was thinking you had great week in baseball because
- 53:34Speaker 1: they be Vanderbilt.
- 53:35Speaker 5: Yes they did. Houston and Iowa State played there. In
- 53:38Speaker 5: my mind right now, Houston and Iowa State playing Okay,
- 53:42Speaker 5: So just like the Arizona Texas Tech game Saturday night,
- 53:46Speaker 5: this is like a tournament game tonight at Hilton with
- 53:50Speaker 5: with with Houston ranked number two right now going into
- 53:55Speaker 5: Iowa State ranked number six right now. Uh, I missed
- 53:58Speaker 5: those big Monday games.
- 54:00Speaker 1: By the way, I bet it's not seventy eight and
- 54:02Speaker 1: names I would. I bet it is not seventy eight
- 54:05Speaker 1: names Siwa. But but you know what, it will be
- 54:08Speaker 1: rocking inside their corner.
- 54:11Speaker 2: Machine will blow up.
- 54:12Speaker 5: It will be I don't think it will. They have
- 54:14Speaker 5: somebody to fix that.
- 54:17Speaker 1: The crowd is like clear now because they're getting sprinkler system.
- 54:21Speaker 2: Hey, your wife was all buttered up or something like.
- 54:23Speaker 1: All of a sudden, the players just turning like, what
- 54:25Speaker 1: the heck?
- 54:27Speaker 5: I missed that totally.
- 54:29Speaker 1: I just happen to be watching at that moment.
- 54:33Speaker 5: The machine went up and flames. Okay, So I'm I'm
- 54:36Speaker 5: gonna go home and hopefully there's more ski jumping to watch.
- 54:40Speaker 1: You're gonna year ago home and you watch out of
- 54:42Speaker 1: State in Houston.
- 54:43Speaker 5: Oh that's not till eight. Duke Duke and Syracuse played
- 54:47Speaker 5: the early game, and yeah, I like watching Duke.
- 54:50Speaker 1: You know, I'm gonna go with Rudies and watch and
- 54:52Speaker 1: get the final Aggie Basketball Hour. Oh good for you
- 54:57Speaker 1: with Bucky, So good for you.
- 55:00Speaker 5: You're you're, You're all in.
- 55:03Speaker 1: I'm in, man, I like, are you? Sports are a
- 55:06Speaker 1: good spot right now. I mean I think that this again,
- 55:09Speaker 1: like I've said all year, this is the worst team
- 55:11Speaker 1: Bucky's ever going to put on the floor at text
- 55:12Speaker 1: A and M and and yeah. So the fact that
- 55:16Speaker 1: they're in this position right now seven, let's.
- 55:19Speaker 5: Not lose sight of what they've done so exactly you can.
- 55:25Speaker 5: I'm shocked and amazed. If they don't win another game,
- 55:28Speaker 5: I was shocked.
- 55:30Speaker 1: Maybe disappointed. They don't win the Wines the night.
- 55:32Speaker 5: I think they should win Wednesday night. They need to.
