Latest / Fanatically Speaking with Kent / Seahawks on Top: Super Bowl LX Recap and the NFL’s Next Moves
Transcript
- 0:09Hey, what's up, everybody? Welcome to fanatically
- 0:11speaking. I'm your host Kent. And now, as you
- 0:15know, of last episode, I am your only host. So
- 0:19me just being here now by myself, you know, first
- 0:22episode had to get into Super Bowl 60, the reactions,
- 0:27the recap of the game. You know, my first thought,
- 0:31you know, going into the game was, you know,
- 0:35I thought, you know, battle could be defensively.
- 0:38you know, log off and myself, we talked about
- 0:39it. We did our preview and then we did our actually
- 0:42picks and got into a lot of the details of the
- 0:45game that was what it was going to come down
- 0:47to. And I will say that we were right on a lot
- 0:50of aspects of the game, what we thought could
- 0:53happen and would happen. And then I think, you
- 0:57know, the way the game played out also kind of
- 0:59probably gave us something we weren't expecting.
- 1:02Right. And what we weren't expecting was. And
- 1:05to tie into another episode, we did our best
- 1:08and worst Super Bowls we've watched. I think
- 1:10I'm going to put this one down as, you know,
- 1:13one of the worst Super Bowls I've ever watched.
- 1:15Now, again, if you're a Seahawk fan, then you
- 1:17enjoyed it. You know, nothing's better than watching
- 1:19your team blow out someone in the Super Bowl.
- 1:23The problem with this Super Bowl was. Offensively,
- 1:28it really wasn't there either. Some numbers are
- 1:31there, some numbers are. They they're more than
- 1:37what they say they are right there. They're not
- 1:39they're not truth to the game In a lot of ways
- 1:44this game also It brought me back to Lassie last
- 1:49year Super Bowl with the Chiefs and the Eagles
- 1:51where again as an Eagles fan Yeah, you'd love
- 1:53the blowout But the Eagles at least gave you
- 1:56big plays and those moments either offense and
- 2:00defensively right they gave you both of those
- 2:02and that the defense was just shutting down the
- 2:06Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes. So in this game,
- 2:09you know, is it early on in the game defensive?
- 2:13The Seahawks obviously shut down the Patriots
- 2:16in this game, but early on the Patriots were
- 2:18holding their own defensively and we know they're
- 2:20a good defensive team. We brought that up, right?
- 2:23But yeah, the first half was brutal. It is a
- 2:28nice way and not even a nice way to put it, but
- 2:30I think a good word to put it. You know, I'm
- 2:34all for a defensive game. I'm all for, you know,
- 2:39football at its finest. I don't need big, I don't
- 2:43need all that, but I also need something else
- 2:47though. And this game was just kind of from the
- 2:50broadcast to the presentation. It just kind of
- 2:54felt like a low, you know, but. But yeah defensive
- 2:59game early both teams, you know getting pressure
- 3:02on the quarterbacks Seahawks were getting sacks
- 3:05early. They got them all game, but early they
- 3:07were the only one getting sacks And I think the
- 3:09Patriots only ended up with like one sack former
- 3:12Eagles Super Bowl champion Milton Williams got
- 3:14that sack But yeah first half field goal party
- 3:18nine to nothing Seahawks You know Darnold like
- 3:22we said both quarterbacks getting pressured Sam
- 3:26Darnold making plays Like, not explosive plays,
- 3:30but making the play. A few times, again, he came
- 3:35really close to getting intercepted, real close
- 3:38to turning the ball over, but he didn't. And
- 3:41that's very key in this football game. But like
- 3:44I said, he was under pressure early, but made
- 3:46some really good throws. Just put it where it
- 3:50had to be, where it wasn't intercepted or. or
- 3:54deflected but there were some deflects early
- 3:56too though he was he was not accurate either
- 3:58early and really throughout the game it was roughly
- 4:02about 50 % I believe but but again like I said
- 4:05he wasn't losing the game you know Seattle was
- 4:08doing their thing again defense really Patriots
- 4:12could not get anything going offensively Couple
- 4:16bright moments for you know like Christian Gonzalez
- 4:20made some really good plays Could have had a
- 4:22pick broke up a huge bomb to Shahid at the last
- 4:27second You know Patriots were playing like very
- 4:30tight up on the receivers You know making it
- 4:33really hard for anybody to make a make a play
- 4:35make a catch So it wasn't again. You weren't
- 4:39watching anything Exciting let's just say that
- 4:44you know Seattle got off of, you know, some runs
- 4:47with Kenneth Walker. Again, Darnold making some
- 4:50plays to keep a drive going. They would kind
- 4:52of get down and then stall. Patriots would hold
- 4:54them with their defense. And again, it just looked
- 4:57like, I was like, man, this will be the first
- 5:00Super Bowl that was going to have an MVP that's
- 5:03a kicker, the way it was rolling, right? I said,
- 5:06well, someone's got to, you know, pad up the
- 5:08defensive stats with like sacks or a pick six
- 5:10or just something crazy. to say, oh yeah, that
- 5:13was the play of the game and that was going to
- 5:15get them the MVP because nobody else did anything.
- 5:19A few things I noticed in the game and especially
- 5:23the first half. Drake May obviously was was not
- 5:29accurate. It looked like the bright lights of
- 5:31the Super Bowl was getting to him. Even when
- 5:35he had time, occasionally he would not. Find
- 5:39his receiver or be off -target where they're
- 5:42having to reach or it's behind them or short
- 5:46so Drake may definitely look like The moment
- 5:50we mentioned this in the title that I saw the
- 5:53last episode was the moment Is it Drake May's
- 5:56moment? Is it Sam Darnold's redemption in this
- 5:58game and Drake may just? The moment look big
- 6:03too big for him And quickly I thought, and I
- 6:06was always young, and it's his second year, and
- 6:08it's like, yeah, and maybe one more year will
- 6:11matter, right? But I do know, and again, I know
- 6:14I'm a homer, I know I'm biased, but Jalen Hurts
- 6:16was 24 years old in the Super Bowl, the first
- 6:24time against the Chiefs, and I know he lost,
- 6:29but he put up huge numbers, and the moment was
- 6:32not too big for him. for him and everyone of
- 6:35course you know they did not want the game to
- 6:37end the way it did with that flag that led to
- 6:40a game win in field goal because they wanted
- 6:42to say you know get let's get the ball back to
- 6:45Jalen Hurts and see what he does this game is
- 6:46exciting you know in the 30s both teams the one
- 6:51mistake obviously he did making that game miss
- 6:53face mask on that fumble that led to a Chiefs
- 6:57touchdown but anyways not not to not to stick
- 7:01here on Jalen Hurts But again He was 24. So we've
- 7:06seen young quarterbacks go to the Super Bowl
- 7:09You know early on in their career. So this is
- 7:13not we're not I don't want to use Youth or anything
- 7:18like that as a reason that Drake may struggled
- 7:22in this game, but Let's be let's be we have to
- 7:26be honest and say They had a good season. He
- 7:31was second in MVP. He had a great regular season.
- 7:34We brought up the fumbles But again, he's been
- 7:38really good and in his career He's been really
- 7:40good right even in a bat with a bad team his
- 7:43rookie season So but again, it looked like the
- 7:46moment was too big. He was never right and I
- 7:50know they mentioned something after the game
- 7:52about his shoulder I don't like reports like
- 7:54that because then that kind of wants to add an
- 7:57excuse to a bad performance And I don't, I don't
- 8:01want to see that. I don't want to hear that,
- 8:02right? It's just, let's be honest about the performance.
- 8:05And to me, it looked like, again, the Superbowl,
- 8:08you know, we talked about it. Is it going to
- 8:10be too big? Who's it going to be too big for?
- 8:12How do these guys, a Sam Darnold who is a veteran,
- 8:16but yet still inexperienced in these huge moments
- 8:20and a Drake May, obviously the biggest moment
- 8:22in his career. How do they do and how do they
- 8:24react and how do they play? And again, he could
- 8:27not do anything. Seattle would rush for couldn't
- 8:32do anything pressure Seattle through blitz get
- 8:35a sack So they really really were tight and you
- 8:38didn't even know Stefan Diggs was in the game.
- 8:40I don't even think he was being a target It was
- 8:43just really it was it was really rough to watch
- 8:46now they did play a little bit of field position
- 8:48and had some chances I think and and just missed
- 8:52out getting that turnover getting that play that
- 8:56would have Would have definitely flipped the
- 8:58game, but they just could not get it as a team
- 9:01so And like I mentioned, you know, Kenneth Walker
- 9:06running well in the first half. He obviously
- 9:08ended up with a big night But as we went to halftime
- 9:14we were just like again, it's it's like what
- 9:17is are we gonna get anything out of this game?
- 9:21Your second half the third quarter really was
- 9:24about the same It was more of the same. It was
- 9:27more Drake May. You know, having issues, it was
- 9:31another field, you know, field goal by Seattle.
- 9:35It was pretty much the same then at the end of
- 9:38the I believe was the end of the third quarter
- 9:41close to it. That's when you got that. That's
- 9:45when you got that fumble by Drake May, right?
- 9:47You get the fumble leads to points. And we talked
- 9:52about that in the preview episode in the picks.
- 9:54It was the turnovers. Seattle was really good
- 9:59in turning the ball over this year. Even though
- 10:02both teams had great defenses, but Seattle was
- 10:05good on those turnovers. And they created this
- 10:08one here, got the fumble recovery, strip sack
- 10:10fumble. Sam Darnold, offensively, finally we
- 10:14see some points outside of a field goal. Darnold
- 10:17with the pass to Barner for the touchdown. Which
- 10:21at that point made it 19 nothing and I'm like,
- 10:23yeah, this game is over like early in the fourth
- 10:25quarter. Here we are You know what's gonna happen?
- 10:27Well, then amazingly, you know Drake may all
- 10:29of a sudden hits two And they were really tough
- 10:34throws really tight spaces But it took two to
- 10:38Matt Collins to get points on the board one to
- 10:41get them down to the field and then another one
- 10:43for the touchdown So give Drake made really good
- 10:46credit there. I mean that was those were like
- 10:47the best passes of the night, maybe, right? I
- 10:50mean, Sam Dornal had some good passes, but those
- 10:53were so tight. The coverage was so good that
- 10:57those, you know, even in the loss for Drake May
- 10:59and the Patriots and a bad night for Drake May,
- 11:02those two passes were unbelievable. And that's
- 11:05what it at least shows you what Drake May can
- 11:10do, what he's about, when he's on, when he makes
- 11:13the throws, when he makes the plays, right? They
- 11:16needed a lot more of that. And it was almost
- 11:17too little too late. And you know, I, you know,
- 11:21I'm, I'm texting, like, you know, the game's
- 11:22over though. Like that was great, but you know,
- 11:24a lot of time in the fourth quarter here, but
- 11:26you know, the game's over. And ultimately again,
- 11:31the Patriots did end up getting the ball back
- 11:33and it was like, okay, if they score here 19
- 11:36to seven, like if they score again, now we're
- 11:38one score game. And now it gets a little, now
- 11:41it gets a little tight, right? And they had a
- 11:44really, the Patriots had a really good drive
- 11:45going and Again, Drake May, I don't know where
- 11:48he was throwing it. Down the middle, behind the
- 11:51receiver, it might've got tipped. There was some
- 11:54arms, hands up, there was some pressure. Again,
- 11:56pressure. He was up in the pocket. And again,
- 12:00it kind of just, you know, sailed or whatever
- 12:03you want to call it, and you know, intercepted
- 12:06by Seattle. So that kind of killed that drive
- 12:10and really just about killed the night. But again,
- 12:14Seattle couldn't. do anything with it, right?
- 12:20Not anything major, right? I think they ended
- 12:23up with maybe another, yeah, another field goal.
- 12:25Yeah, they ended up with another field goal.
- 12:28So you're looking at it now and you're just like,
- 12:31again, there's still an outside shot, outside
- 12:33shot. Patriots, of course, getting the ball back
- 12:37and then, you know, the big hit by Witherspoon
- 12:41that was going to be a strip sack, but ball in
- 12:44the air called. I want to and a you know pick
- 12:48six 45 yard touchdown and that was the nail in
- 12:51the coffin that was the game that put them up
- 12:54by enough to say yeah, this is over and That's
- 12:58what log off was talking about you get that double
- 13:01-digit lead and then the blowout happens now
- 13:04To you know go again alluding back to our previous
- 13:08episode and so log off was right there he had
- 13:12You know, he talked about the blowout talked
- 13:13about getting that lead and then extending it
- 13:16once it was to two scores There were moments
- 13:19so it couldn't have been right? It wasn't going
- 13:21to be so ultimately the defense ended up, you
- 13:24know running the score up With their plays with
- 13:27their turnovers, which is again what they've
- 13:30done all season Let's see here so that yeah,
- 13:35so Patriots and you know got another drive together
- 13:37put up some Meaningless yards another a meaningless
- 13:40touchdown and and that was pretty much all that
- 13:42was all it was So with that being said You know
- 13:47Drake the biggest these are the big points. I
- 13:49looked at at the game, right? We kind of just
- 13:51went through the game Seahawks, of course win
- 13:5329 13 and it was a Ultimately again we came to
- 14:01the quarterbacks but we talked about defense
- 14:04we talked about turnover special teams Those
- 14:06were like the key, I thought, really key, and
- 14:09then you get into the quarterbacks, right? What
- 14:10were they gonna do? Would they turn the ball
- 14:12over? Would they make plays, right? Drake May,
- 14:16of course, ended up with the fumble on the strip
- 14:19sack. Two interceptions, one for a pick six.
- 14:24Missed throws, not accurate, and just, you know,
- 14:30again, erratic the whole game. Just kinda never
- 14:32comfortable. And even when, you know, even when
- 14:36he had time, like we talked about, it was just
- 14:39not, you know, he did not have, you know, the
- 14:43throws, the throws just weren't there. He didn't
- 14:44get them there. So tough night for him. He can
- 14:47keep his head up. Now, again, history not in
- 14:50his favor. Well, we've talked about this to quarterbacks
- 14:54who lose their first Super Bowl that they are
- 14:59in. There's been only one in the NFL history.
- 15:02We've now we're in 60 years of the NFL 60 I mean
- 15:0560 years of Super Bowl and only one quarterback
- 15:08has made it back to a Super Bowl after losing
- 15:12their first time in the Super Bowl and The only
- 15:16guy again not biased. I'm just giving you stats
- 15:18you guys Not by I am biased but not biased or
- 15:22being the homer here But Jalen hurts is the only
- 15:24quarterback to do it. He did it two years later
- 15:27and won the Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP. So
- 15:30for Drake, mate, it's not, you know, all all
- 15:34groom and doom. It's. Hey, Jalen Hurts did it.
- 15:38You're really young to just like he was. So head
- 15:42up. You are obviously a baller in the MVP conversation.
- 15:47With a good coach, with a good team organization,
- 15:49I think. Though they'll put you they'll get you
- 15:53right. Everybody will get better. You know, the
- 15:55young guys on that line will get better Get you
- 15:58another weapon at receiver, right? You'll get
- 16:02better. You'll the game will come to you. I think
- 16:04Drake may will be fine You know again now what
- 16:09he's got to worry about though now in the AFC
- 16:11going forward is just that hey Josh Allen still
- 16:14there Patrick Mahomes will come back Lamar Jackson
- 16:17will be there still the guys that Weren't in
- 16:20the playoffs or Did what they needed to do in
- 16:24the playoffs this year? They're going to be back
- 16:26Joe burrow is still in the league so the AFC
- 16:29is loaded with really good quarterbacks and Organizations
- 16:32and teams and coaches. I mean like that Denver
- 16:35really good. It just you know, they lose bo nicks
- 16:37in the snow, so It's gonna be a tough. I think
- 16:40it's gonna be a tough climb for the Patriots
- 16:42to get back here But they have a good base. They
- 16:46have a good core And again, they can't they went
- 16:50from three and 14 to 14 and three into the Super
- 16:53Bowl. So nothing to hang their their heads down
- 16:55about, you know, just wasn't their day. It was
- 16:58it was just reminiscent of last season with the
- 17:00Eagles and Chiefs. It was reminiscent of, you
- 17:03know, the 10 years ago with Denver. In Carolina,
- 17:07reminiscent of when Seattle's first Super Bowl
- 17:09victory over Denver just dominating and the offensive
- 17:14on the other team could not do anything. But
- 17:17very reminiscent of that Broncos Panthers and
- 17:20we talked about that being log off's worst Superboy
- 17:22at watch because offensively there was not a
- 17:25lot to watch and You know Like I said Seattle
- 17:30a lot of yards by Kenneth Walker I think you
- 17:32know 135 something like that 20 some yards pat
- 17:35receiving You know Donald had his touchdown and
- 17:38that was kind of like the one you know play and
- 17:42then just Walker, you know running the ball and
- 17:45You know, ultimately, though, Seattle, you know,
- 17:48their defense was the the real. It was the real
- 17:52MVP. It was the real story of this game. Along
- 17:57with Drake May, right? Like it, it's not like
- 18:00this defense can't get scored on, right? The
- 18:02Rams and Sam. Matthew Stafford showed that like
- 18:08teams have showed you can score on the Seahawks
- 18:10to in the Super Bowl. They it was not going to
- 18:13happen. you know it took two great throws and
- 18:16then in clean up time they scored but this defense
- 18:20was was really really good six sacks a lot of
- 18:24pressure we talked about the force fumble strip
- 18:27sack we talked about the two interceptions one
- 18:32a pick six special teams no big returns but The
- 18:39punt placement by Seattle was amazing. They were
- 18:43backing up and pinning New England in many times
- 18:47on all the punts by both teams, really. Because
- 18:51again, it was just not exactly an offensive game.
- 18:55So that was huge. The run game controlled offense
- 18:59by Seattle. We talked about Sam Dotto, no turnovers.
- 19:02He came really close about three times, to be
- 19:05exact. One right out the hands. One hey, just
- 19:09turn your head So I think there's just But that's
- 19:13the way it goes, right? I mean the defense you
- 19:16know, if you don't intercept it then the offense
- 19:18gets another shot and they don't score so You
- 19:22know, it was run the ball It was defense run
- 19:26the ball control, you know, don't do anything
- 19:28stupid and ultimately, you know, that's what
- 19:31the see the Seahawks did They've used that game
- 19:35plan a lot And, you know, all credit to him.
- 19:41All credit to Sam Darnold, right? Not the MVP,
- 19:44like I called him to, it was gonna be his moment,
- 19:46MVP, all this. He does get a moment, right? He
- 19:49does get his redemption from being almost a joke
- 19:52of the league, seeing ghosts against the Patriots
- 19:55as a jet, being in, you know, Carolina, to back
- 20:00up in San Francisco, to ballin' out in Minnesota,
- 20:03and... That just didn't work out where they kept
- 20:07them, you know You end up in Seattle the story
- 20:11of that is amazing, right? I mean see, you know,
- 20:13Minnesota all from a contract similar to Seattle
- 20:16Seattle had not really no plans for Darnold they
- 20:19were trying to just bring back Gino but then
- 20:22they couldn't get a You know a contract worked
- 20:25out an extension or whatever the case may be
- 20:27so just trade them to Vegas and get Sam Darnold
- 20:31and again, he chose Seattle because They were
- 20:34gonna give him they were like you're the guy
- 20:36like he don't have to look over his back like
- 20:37Minnesota at JJ McCarthy or whoever else So it's
- 20:41great how that worked out. I Will bring up though
- 20:45that you know, Sam Darnell did lead the league
- 20:46in turnovers this season But what matters is
- 20:51what you do in the playoffs and obviously the
- 20:54Super Bowl and Again, I've been hard on Darnell
- 20:57and so is a lot of the media and for good reason
- 21:00right you got again I said prove it do it on
- 21:03the field all these things and he did and he
- 21:07can you know and I told I mean I picked him to
- 21:09win I picked him to be the MVP again he didn't
- 21:11win that but no turnovers in the playoffs obviously
- 21:16including the Super Bowl so that's how you win
- 21:20right you when you have that great defense you
- 21:24can put together a running game because Kenneth
- 21:26Walker is no slouch at running back So, Darnold
- 21:30again, don't turn the ball over and you're going
- 21:32to put your team in great positions to win football
- 21:35games. As boring as this game was, you know,
- 21:38that's what they did. And I mean, all credit
- 21:41to him, all credit to Mike McDonald, all credit
- 21:43to that defense. You know, guys on that team,
- 21:48you know, like Love and Demarcus Lawrence, who,
- 21:51you know, again, they were a giant and a cowboy.
- 21:54They never thought they'd see a Super Bowl. So
- 21:56here they are with Seattle. They put it together.
- 21:59It's it's just you know a really good story and
- 22:01ultimately Seattle you know I talked about the
- 22:04weapons that that was swaying my pick with Seattle
- 22:06was they had more weapons definitely on offense
- 22:09right when you look at New England is like oh
- 22:11they got digs and you know they got Mack Holland
- 22:13and it's like okay you know they got you know
- 22:16Hunter Henry and they got you know but a couple
- 22:20good running backs but do they have like some
- 22:22more options and ultimately it didn't matter
- 22:25But I think Seattle had the more weapons, you
- 22:29know, Smith and Jigba. And then, you know, with
- 22:33Cup and the and Barner and they've got guys,
- 22:37you know, with obviously Walker at running back.
- 22:40And I just think they had a little more weapons,
- 22:44but not only on offense, but on defense. We can
- 22:47talk about the Patriots. Their their defense
- 22:49is way better. They went got Mill Williams. They
- 22:52got Carlton Davis. They've got Christian Gonzalez.
- 22:55They just need, I think, another guy. They just,
- 23:00they're missing, I think, another receiver. That
- 23:04will be a really good option. And I think they're
- 23:07missing, you know, maybe another, whether that
- 23:10be linebacker and edge or something like that
- 23:13on defense. Ultimately, you know, Seattle just
- 23:16had more weapons. They were just more ready,
- 23:19more prepared. Again, second year with Mike McDonald,
- 23:22they get the quarterback. that can help them
- 23:24and they win the Super Bowl. So again, just praising
- 23:29credit to them for a great season. They really
- 23:33were a great all season. And again, it's just
- 23:36one of those cases where sometimes teams have
- 23:38to prove and they have to do it to make you a
- 23:42believer. And they have definitely, like I said,
- 23:46made me a believer. in the Seattle Seahawks.
- 23:50Again, I do say again, one of the worst Super
- 23:55Bowls though I've ever watched, Kenneth Walker,
- 23:58by the way, MVP, and I didn't know which way
- 24:02they were gonna go with that, but again, I'm
- 24:05okay with that, which not that they're asking
- 24:08me, but I think he put, he, He moved the ball
- 24:15averaging like five something yards of carry
- 24:17105 yards. So that is okay with me. And again,
- 24:22though, just just one of the worst Super Bowls
- 24:24that I've watched, you know, it's just when your
- 24:26team's not in it, you want to see a really, really
- 24:28good game. And there for a moment, I thought
- 24:30Patriots may come back and put together something.
- 24:32They just didn't do it. And, you know, I think
- 24:35Seattle now, though. I saw actually, yeah, they
- 24:40I saw a meme about this, right? About the Super
- 24:44Bowl and it was like the Scooby -Doo meme you
- 24:47take the mask off and it you know So it had the
- 24:50Super Bowl logo 60 logo take the mask off and
- 24:53it's a Thursday night football game That's kind
- 24:55of what it felt like it felt like a Thursday
- 24:56night football game where you know a couple of
- 24:59teams they can't really do anything and there's
- 25:01just kind of it's just kind of blah and That's
- 25:05what it was You know you you know the Patriots
- 25:09end up with two touchdowns in the game offensively
- 25:12but of course like I said it took two perfect
- 25:15throws and then it was garbage time after that
- 25:17they were really really backed off playing a
- 25:20prevent soft defense and it did kind of feel
- 25:24like a Thursday night game not gonna lie about
- 25:26it and but at the end of the day like Seattle
- 25:30they win they got to look forward and we're gonna
- 25:33get to that here shortly the only let and let's
- 25:38see here I'm gonna mention this right and this
- 25:40is not taking a side on anything because I know
- 25:42people are Trying to take make this about sides
- 25:45and all these other things the halftime show
- 25:47really really quick I expected more I Did not
- 25:52think it was a good halftime show I think people
- 25:57need to be okay with saying that to say yeah,
- 26:00I didn't enjoy it. I didn't like it Was it the
- 26:04worst? Yeah, I don't know but I don't I mean,
- 26:06you know, it is what it is, you know But I do
- 26:10know Bad Bunny. I do know some of his music.
- 26:14Me as a wrestling fan, I know Bad Bunny from
- 26:17wrestling. He wrestled a couple of times for
- 26:19WWE. So I was expecting a couple of hits and
- 26:24some songs that I knew. So personally, when he
- 26:28didn't do those, then I'm like, oh, that's it.
- 26:30He didn't even do the songs I know. But all in
- 26:34all, I felt Lady Gaga was out of place. she's
- 26:39singing her part to her and Bruno Mars song,
- 26:41but she's doing it with Bad Bunny. It was, it's
- 26:44a Super Bowl to a different beat and all these
- 26:47things. And I'm like, I don't, I don't really
- 26:48understand that. And that's maybe not for me
- 26:50to understand. I have no idea. But I look at
- 26:53things like that, you know, all the, all the
- 26:56other stuff, you know, that's for another conversation
- 26:58for another podcast, I guess, for other people.
- 27:01But on this podcast, like I said, just to talk
- 27:02about the fun of the Super Bowl and things like
- 27:04that. Um, yeah, I, you know, to me swinging a
- 27:07miss. on to the next one. And you know, looking
- 27:18forward for these two teams really quickly. Seahawks.
- 27:23I mentioned a Patriots like it's gonna be tougher
- 27:25for them in the AFC with the teams, the quarterbacks,
- 27:27the coaching, everything that you know, it's
- 27:28always hard to get back to the Superbowl. You
- 27:32can ask any team, right? There's only been so
- 27:34many here recent in recent memory that have been
- 27:38able to lose and get back. The Rams lost and
- 27:42got back. The 49ers lost and got back, lost again.
- 27:46The Eagles lost and got back. So the Chiefs have
- 27:51lost, obviously they've won, but they've also
- 27:53lost and got back. So it's not as easy, even
- 27:57though I just named a handful of teams that have
- 28:01done it, but those handful of teams are pretty
- 28:06good. So they have a good... thing in place I
- 28:11think New England does too but I guess it's gonna
- 28:13be really tough in the AFC let's see then you
- 28:17look at what they have coming up in the offseason
- 28:21and you you really have to look at like the free
- 28:26agents and you know big one here is Kenneth Walker
- 28:29that's a big one right the Super Bowl MVP he's
- 28:34obviously going to be in high demand and you
- 28:37know We're gonna get into that conversation of
- 28:41running backs and what do they get paid and what
- 28:43are they worth and, you know, things like that.
- 28:47And we obviously have seen the Saquon Barclays,
- 28:50the Derek Henry, the Christian McCaffrey, what
- 28:53they've done to change that market. But, you
- 28:58know, Kenneth Walker, he is 25 years old. So,
- 29:03you know, he should expect a big payday. by somebody,
- 29:08you know what I mean? Tariq Willen, also a free
- 29:13agent, Boya Mafe, Edge Rusher, Rasheed Shahid,
- 29:19they picked him up, it worked out. He will be
- 29:23a free agent, Kobe Bryant, Josh Jones, the right
- 29:26tackle, Josh Jobe, the corner, Chad Sherat, our
- 29:31local Super Bowl champion from the area here,
- 29:36proud of him. They got some other, you know,
- 29:40restricted free agents. They got some guys who
- 29:42are, could be, cap casualties, things like that,
- 29:46are listed. But I think they're in really good
- 29:49shape when you talk about, the question always
- 29:52is like, can the team repeat? I think there's
- 29:56a really good chance for them, right? So, you
- 30:01know, I think they're gonna be tough. And, I
- 30:05think we've seen enough from Sam Darnold that,
- 30:08hey, he may turn the ball over, right? But this
- 30:11season, he didn't do it in the playoffs. He did
- 30:13it in the regular season, not in the playoffs,
- 30:14but I think that's gonna be key. The Kenneth
- 30:17Walker will be key. I'm not looking at any other
- 30:22stuff with how much money they have, things like
- 30:26that. I have no earthly idea. As for the Patriots,
- 30:30they don't have as many. free agents unrestricted
- 30:34here looks like Austin Hooper Calavian case on
- 30:43yeah so they I mean those are the bigger names
- 30:46that you would know they got some restricted
- 30:50free agents so they're set up really good to
- 30:54to still be good and that's what we talked about
- 30:57it was you know What are they going to look like
- 31:01going forward? And I think they're going to look,
- 31:04you know, just fine. Both teams should be right
- 31:08back in the running. Again, I do just go ahead
- 31:12and say that I think I think the Seahawks have
- 31:14a better path to get back. You know, if they
- 31:18repeat kind of the formula they did this year,
- 31:21again, they're in a really tough division. The
- 31:23Rams, I don't think the Rams are going anywhere.
- 31:26I don't think the 49ers are going anywhere. The
- 31:29Eagles, I don't believe are going anywhere. You
- 31:31think about the Lions and the Packers. Let them,
- 31:35you know, let the Packers get healthy and the
- 31:38Lions, if they can just figure, you know, get
- 31:40it right with their coordinators and get back
- 31:43on track. Other teams, I mean, the Panthers are
- 31:48on the rise, I guess, right? They won the division.
- 31:51So we got to say they're young. So. You know
- 31:55Saints look good this you know, whoever come
- 31:57the Bucks and Baker Mayfield The Cowboys I mean,
- 32:01you know every year is their year we get it for
- 32:03the last 30 years But they they do have talent.
- 32:07Can they put something together? And that's a
- 32:10real question You know hardballs in New York.
- 32:13So the NFC still though Seattle they just won
- 32:16in a tough division Obviously when you win that
- 32:18division when you win the Super Bowl, you're
- 32:20going to have a tougher schedule the next year.
- 32:22So that's the only thing is now they're gonna
- 32:25get that Super Bowl winning schedule that playoff
- 32:27winning division winning schedule and and the
- 32:30same for the Patriots right they everybody talked
- 32:32about their schedule this year well again let's
- 32:35see what they do next year with the the you know
- 32:37that that schedule that you get for being good
- 32:40making the playoffs winning your division going
- 32:42to the Super Bowl see how that turns out We'll
- 32:53switch gears a little bit. Let's look at the
- 32:57free agency is coming up. We're done. Like I
- 33:01said, Superbowl is just finished. We're looking
- 33:03at the off season. And free agency, the draft,
- 33:09things like that is coming up. And I just wanna
- 33:11take a really, really, really quick outlook,
- 33:15a preview at what's gonna be coming up. Not get
- 33:19into a lot, a lot of detail. but get into just
- 33:24a little bit. Like, what can we look at, right?
- 33:26And I'm gonna touch on just some free agents.
- 33:29What can we look for? We've already heard, like,
- 33:32you know, George Pickens is gonna get franchised
- 33:34by Dallas. Pretty smart move by them. They don't
- 33:39have to give him the huge contract yet, but I
- 33:41mean, he performed for them. You just don't ever
- 33:43know what you're gonna get with him, right? He's
- 33:45a little bit of a wild card. Looking at the rankings
- 33:48of the top free agents that are gonna be coming
- 33:50up and you know You got to look at Trey Hendrickson.
- 33:54His name was talked about and trades obviously,
- 33:58you know Franchise things like that, but you
- 34:02know him at edge rusher out of Cincinnati. He
- 34:04gets double -digit sacks He would be a big name
- 34:08Well, he is the biggest name. It looks like they
- 34:10have them ranked here on ESPN George Pickens
- 34:13we mentioned franchised Daniel Jones he's coming
- 34:19off injury the Achilles injury so his availability
- 34:23starting the season is gonna be interesting his
- 34:26contract would be interesting Do the Colts want
- 34:29to stick with him or just going into different
- 34:31direction? Maybe they just play with Riley Leonard
- 34:34until Jones comes back and bring them back on
- 34:37a special deal I don't know I think Leonard's
- 34:40got some talent, but we'll see that what the
- 34:42Colts do they got some decisions to make they
- 34:44got to get some consistency at quarterback and
- 34:47we just haven't seen that from them. But yeah,
- 34:49Daniel Jones, he's up there. Eagles, Jalen Phillips,
- 34:54what's his price tag gonna be? Is it gonna be
- 34:56too pricey for the Eagles to keep him? He was
- 34:58really, really good for them. But again, we'll
- 35:03just see if he gets, is it gonna be too pricey
- 35:07for them to keep him to bring him back? I know
- 35:10he loved being there, being with a winner outside
- 35:13of being in Miami and in that big. Fangio system
- 35:17Alec Pierce receiver out of the Colts There again
- 35:21Colts. They got some work to do, you know, you
- 35:23get your quarterback and when your top receivers
- 35:25are free agents Breeze Hall Can he get out of
- 35:28New York if I see him just get out of New York?
- 35:30I don't care who they got calling the plays now.
- 35:32I know they replace the whole coaching staff
- 35:34But it's a good bet to get out of I get off the
- 35:37Jets roster If you want to succeed in life in
- 35:40the NFL, so Breeze Hall running back I'm just
- 35:45going through not every single name. I'm not
- 35:47going to do that. I just want to look and see
- 35:50like who are the top ranked ones. Uh, you know,
- 35:53Mike Evans, I can't see the bucks letting him
- 35:55go even at 33, uh, you know, he can still produce.
- 35:59He obviously got hurt, but, uh, there's no reason
- 36:03to see him in another uniform, but Hey, you never
- 36:06know. Jalen Watson, quarterback, Kansas city
- 36:08chiefs. Interesting, right? I don't think he's
- 36:12a bad number two. Corner in the league right
- 36:16to help out on if you got to shut down on the
- 36:18other side Malik Willis showed some signs in
- 36:21Green Bay He's only played good in Green Bay,
- 36:23but hey sometimes it takes coaching in a franchise
- 36:25right you see that with Sam Darnold You've seen
- 36:28that with Malik Willis right Tennessee drafted
- 36:30him and played him, but you know no coaching
- 36:34consistency No good culture in Tennessee, and
- 36:38he gets to Green Bay and shows that hey this
- 36:39dude can play a little bit So, you know, he may
- 36:42get a chance to compete with another team for
- 36:44a starting job. Travis A10 out of Jacksonville.
- 36:49That would be big if they lost him. Devin Floyd
- 36:52as well. Man, Jacksonville's got some free agents
- 36:54there. Yeah, Romeo Dobbs, good receiver. Hey,
- 37:00New England, you might need another receiver.
- 37:03Just letting you know. Khalil Mack, old as he
- 37:05is, 35. He can still get to the quarterback,
- 37:07cause some pressures. Kyle Pitts. Big tight end
- 37:12never really worked out in Atlanta. He's had
- 37:14some You know flashes. Let's just say flashes
- 37:18right, but still a good weapon big target There
- 37:22is Kenneth Walker and him ranked 24. He should
- 37:25be ranked higher now. He just got Super Bowl
- 37:27MVP Brian Cook safety out of Kansas City Rashid
- 37:30Shahid Receiver slash return man again, New England
- 37:34again. He's a weapon There's Kason, Jawan Jennings,
- 37:39San Francisco. They don't need to lose receivers,
- 37:42but again, pretty good. Javante Williams had
- 37:45a good year in Dallas running back. See that
- 37:47being something. Let's see what else we got.
- 37:50Reed Blankenship. That one would hurt, man. I'm
- 37:55hoping the Eagles can bring him back. Let's see
- 37:58what else to do. I'm just going through the list,
- 38:01guys. Joey Bosa had a good year in Buffalo. Maybe
- 38:04not a... You know, I don't know what 31 and get
- 38:06big huge money but Hey Eagles, if you don't get
- 38:10Phillips back Joey Bosa Yeah, just going I said
- 38:17going through Rico Dowdle good year at times
- 38:19with the Carolina good running back Kobe Bryant
- 38:22Seattle. There you go. Nakobe Dean again. Don't
- 38:24want to lose them But I get it You know, they
- 38:28got Jahad Campbell played really well Dean's
- 38:30kind of hurt a lot. So but he's only 25. So,
- 38:33you know Kenneth Gainwell, you want that extra
- 38:38running back Super Bowl champion, you go get
- 38:40Kenneth Gainwell. Had a pretty good year in Pittsburgh.
- 38:43Again, wherever he lands is a good spot. So yeah,
- 38:46looking ahead, that is quickly the free agents
- 38:50list. I'm not going into too much detail about
- 38:55it. Just wanted to hit on some names. That's
- 38:58what we can look forward to. Free agency, the
- 39:00draft. obviously Fernando Mendoza is the projected
- 39:03top pick by the Raiders and then after that it's
- 39:08a you know there's all kinds of you know different
- 39:11scenarios and trades that can happen and big
- 39:15you know those are big names yeah there's some
- 39:17pretty good names out there you know i don't
- 39:19know if this draft is going to blow you away
- 39:20but again Mendoza It's gonna be the top quarterback
- 39:24available. That's gonna be the story But again
- 39:26these teams they have a chance to you know, add
- 39:29some stuff here in the draft some young talent
- 39:32that will be interesting and That's what we have
- 39:36to look forward to next right the NFL just finished
- 39:51Things that have happened this offseason. I know
- 39:53that would have been a big conversation and obviously
- 39:55that's my team so You know, they they get rid
- 39:59of Kevin Patulo. They bring in Shawn Manion They
- 40:03have always all season. It feels like always
- 40:06the media with AJ Brown trade rumors He did the
- 40:09he did a podcast did a show, you know during
- 40:11Super Bowl week And he mentioned like he loves
- 40:13Philly like he won't that's home. That's where
- 40:15he wants to be Can't wait to get in the lab work
- 40:18with the new offensive coordinators because I
- 40:20say that because I got Manon they got you know
- 40:23other guys involved that are going to try to
- 40:25put together some sort of NFL professional offense
- 40:29that they did not have this season so you know
- 40:31he's like hey fans everything is like Philly
- 40:33is Philly man and it truly is and I think it's
- 40:37funny how I think sometimes they you know whoever
- 40:39is putting these rumors and posts out here you
- 40:43know again I go back to the media and I go back
- 40:45to whoever like podcaster whoever are putting
- 40:47like fake stuff out just to say stuff because
- 40:50they think maybe this that any other no have
- 40:53some facts have some truth and again stop being
- 40:55anonymous source on stuff this is not just about
- 40:57the Eagles like guys and oh anonymous source
- 40:59in the locker room stop being anonymous source
- 41:01be a man speak up But anyways, that's my ran
- 41:06on that but AJ around saying he's gonna be back.
- 41:07So that's good news Little worried about the
- 41:10offensive line Landon Dickerson Lane Johnson,
- 41:12you know little worried There's retirement rumors
- 41:17injury rumors about him. So that that does worry
- 41:20me You know Stoutland being gone as the line
- 41:24coach that worries me Obviously there was some
- 41:27misunderstanding or disagreements about the offense
- 41:30and his his role in the running game So now he's
- 41:33gone Fangio has announced he is back. I am reading
- 41:37stuff about Jim Schwartz was ready I think to
- 41:40step in and be the D coordinator He was like
- 41:42checking in so he claims, you know where it is
- 41:45He's going to sit out a season of coaching which
- 41:47you know Fangio coaches one more year and then
- 41:50Jim Schwartz Steps in I'm okay with that right
- 41:54Jim Schwartz obviously won a Super Bowl as the
- 41:56defensive coordinator For the Philadelphia Eagles
- 41:59in their first Super Bowl championship so those
- 42:02things are really that's what's on right now
- 42:05right for the Eagles they gotta get another line
- 42:08coach you know wishful thinking is Jason Kelsey
- 42:12but we'll see but yeah that line is going to
- 42:16be tough they obviously have you know free agents
- 42:19in Reed Blankenship and you know Nicoby Dean
- 42:24Jalen Phillips so they've got they've got guys
- 42:28Those are some big names, right? Those are some
- 42:30big names that we have to look out for that could
- 42:34really impact that team. And again, I am biased,
- 42:38so I have to, I'm always gonna talk about the
- 42:40Eagles and say, what do they have, what do they
- 42:44possibly lose? Dallas Goddard, a free agent,
- 42:49Fred Johnson, a good backup, lineman, offensive
- 42:52lineman. Other ones that don't you know, Brandon
- 42:55grammy came back I mean if he can come back again
- 42:57and just give you what he gave you I'm okay with
- 43:00that too Calcutta, you know backup tight end
- 43:03good blocker make some good catches too. So John
- 43:08Johnson, I mean he makes plays here and there
- 43:10but You know, if you've seen the Eagles, they
- 43:13don't really use their third wide receiver no
- 43:16matter who it is It's very rare. It's very occasionally.
- 43:19So You know, I don't I don't know what they're
- 43:22gonna do there But again, I don't know who they
- 43:26can keep off this and how they you know, they
- 43:28really need to look at corner I mean a Dory Jackson
- 43:30played better, but I'd really like for him to
- 43:32look at corner And again, if you're looking at
- 43:36it from a business, you know point of view You
- 43:41know, I really think they could look at CJ Garner
- 43:43Johnson again. He brings some toughness He brings
- 43:45that you know, he's a ballhawk. He's got that
- 43:48attitude that you need on defense And you saw
- 43:50that with the Bears when he when he finally ended
- 43:53up there this season, right? He brought something
- 43:54different to them. So I would love to have them
- 43:57back. Can they just make amends again and bring
- 44:00them back a third time? If they don't get reblank
- 44:03and ship. But again, I think we I think we need,
- 44:07you know, I don't know. Something like that.
- 44:10Nakobe Dean, I think is going to be it's just
- 44:12going to be one of those things where, hey, we
- 44:13got Jahad Campbell on this rookie deal. He played
- 44:17lights out. Even though the Kobe Dean plays amazing,
- 44:20but again, he does he does get hurt. So that's
- 44:23the only knock on them. And again, we'll always
- 44:26have a Super Bowl championship if they don't
- 44:28bring them back. Goddard's a tough one, great
- 44:31tight end, great player, does go through some
- 44:33injuries. But again, up there in age. So, you
- 44:38know, they made the decision on Zach Ertz about
- 44:40this time and they moved on. Now they don't have
- 44:43a replacement. So that where the draft comes
- 44:45into place, things like that. But I think key
- 44:48key things for the Philadelphia Eagles going
- 44:50forward is going to be again. The offense I think
- 44:53is going to be fine as long as you know your
- 44:55linemen don't leave and retire and things like
- 44:58that. They'll have to figure that out, right?
- 45:01And then. And just get healthy in general offensive
- 45:05line, right? They'll figure out the passing in
- 45:07the run. They got too many weapons and too many
- 45:10great stars to not figure that out. So I'm not
- 45:13worried about that. They'll get back on track.
- 45:18Defensively again, you got to get some you got
- 45:21to get some pass rush on The edge and again corner
- 45:26plays huge especially in the division You know,
- 45:29you got to play the Cowboys and they got lamb
- 45:31and they got pickings and that that's tough.
- 45:33That's tough to cover and Quinian Mitchell can
- 45:36only cover one guy so Gotta gotta really really
- 45:41I really want to focus in on that safety. Obviously
- 45:43is important and I know money is important and
- 45:47hopefully they figure it out but just again looking
- 45:50ahead for the Philadelphia Eagles you know I
- 45:53had to I have to do I had to do a little bit
- 45:55on them just to say hey you know what's the outlook
- 45:58look like there and other than that I mean you
- 46:04know I hate this space you know I do hate this
- 46:07space of nothing going on right now football
- 46:11is now over for the season we can only look forward
- 46:15to Baseball is kind of going to get rolling.
- 46:21But again, they don't play until like late March,
- 46:23early April. So baseball's a while. NBA's still
- 46:26going on. Luckily right now, the Charlotte Hornets
- 46:30are hot. So having the local team being good
- 46:33for once is a good thing. So NBA, but again,
- 46:38like I said, not too far away. We're a few weeks,
- 46:40maybe a... Month mish right three seven three
- 46:45weeks, maybe or so away from NFL free agency
- 46:48again. I love free agency I love just like we
- 46:50just did the NBA trade deadline. Love the trade
- 46:53deadline love free agency To see what my team
- 46:56does other teams do players switching teams.
- 46:59That's always fun for me On the lookout for you
- 47:02know new uniforms. I've seen you know teams have
- 47:05put in like the Titans and Falcons might be changing
- 47:08their uniforms. So that, you know, I'm a nerd
- 47:12for stuff like that. I like to see, you know,
- 47:14new uniforms changes. I think some other teams
- 47:17put in some, put in some paperwork or whatever
- 47:21you want to call it, filed for, you know, uniform.
- 47:25Some of them are like alternate uniforms and
- 47:27it could be like another, you know, color helmet
- 47:29or something like that. So I definitely, you
- 47:31know, I look forward to that, look forward to
- 47:33the draft. NFL they do it right man. They they
- 47:37spread it out where you are invested almost all
- 47:39season all right up until like training camp
- 47:41and and then preseason so You know until next
- 47:45year. I mean, you know if you're in it's hard
- 47:48to say and just at the moment Say, okay this
- 47:51team this team this team they're gonna be good.
- 47:53They're gonna be great They're gonna be the best
- 47:55and they're gonna be the favorite. Obviously
- 47:57Seattle will be a favorite. I think the Rams
- 47:59will be up there I mean, the Patriots just went.
- 48:02But again, you got a lot of teams coming back.
- 48:04But a lot of new coaches, a lot of changes in
- 48:06NFL. We count 10 new coaches in the league this
- 48:09year going to be. So that makes for an interesting
- 48:12story going into next season. But yeah, I'll
- 48:17do another episode on free agency for sure. That
- 48:21stuff I love talking about, love looking into.
- 48:24the changes and what that means for the teams
- 48:26that, you know, bring back players or players
- 48:28go to new, new teams. So that will be fun as
- 48:31well. And obviously a draft episode too. And
- 48:34again, you know, doing this by myself, it's going
- 48:39to be, it is obviously different, but, uh, you
- 48:41know, we're going to make it work and try to
- 48:43make it, you know, we'll see how the format goes,
- 48:46see how everything works out. But, uh, again,
- 48:49this has been another episode of fanatically
- 48:51speaking with Kent. And, you know, hey, go to
- 48:55social media, follow us, you know, to keep up
- 48:58with the show, what episodes are out, release
- 49:00things like that. I try to have fun with the
- 49:03artwork and the music for each episode, not that
- 49:05that even matters, but I try to have it correlate
- 49:08with the episode. But yeah, we, you know, on
- 49:11Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, I try to do some
- 49:13videos on TikTok time to time, hope to be doing
- 49:15more of those to try to generate some eyeballs
- 49:19and ears on the show. Having some takes on sports
- 49:22and and obviously I could I'm a wrestling fan
- 49:24So I like to do wrestling too, and you'll get
- 49:27more of that now on the show Since it's just
- 49:30me. I love talking wrestling watching wrestling
- 49:32Along with again, you know football baseball
- 49:35basketball, but again on all those Socials and
- 49:40then you can listen to the show on all podcast
- 49:42outlets. It really doesn't matter. It's everywhere
- 49:45Go and listen and you can even listen on YouTube
- 49:50Even though we don't have video at the moment
- 49:53You know listen on there if you have to but yeah,
- 49:56definitely listen definitely share That's the
- 49:58always the thing and then again comment like
- 50:01follow all that fun stuff as well To all those
- 50:07people, you know, I post stuff on Facebook all
- 50:09the time like personally But I also share the
- 50:11show stuff, you know, you like all my kids pictures
- 50:13you like all that stuff So I know you see my
- 50:16stuff. So, you know Going go and you know check
- 50:21out fanatically speaking to like that stuff too,
- 50:23and you know listen and then tell somebody Trying
- 50:27to be fun with it, but yeah and as always tap
- 50:30that app whatever you listen on whatever Device
- 50:34There's an app. There's a button, and I just
- 50:37like to be fun with it. It's a tap that app So
- 50:41for that in this episode I am out
