- 0:00What we see in others, in many cases is a mirror to what we
- 0:05contain within ourselves. We understand what is taking
- 0:09place because we are able to receive the vibration,
- 0:12internalize it, and translate it into something that resonates in
- 0:16our being. In Western psychology there is a
- 0:20concept called projection, whereby someone projects on to
- 0:24another person those traits, qualities, motives or actions
- 0:30which one has within oneself, whether openly visible or
- 0:35latent. For a spiritual seeker, this
- 0:39provides us a marvellous opportunity to view ourselves in
- 0:42this mirror, internalize the review and follow the thread to
- 0:47the route that we harbor. This gives us the chance to work
- 0:51on the issue within. We can then be grateful to the
- 0:55grace that we are given the opportunity to see our
- 0:58weaknesses and faults mirrored in others if we have not yet
- 1:02gained the capacity for the inward view that allows us to
- 1:06examine it carefully and completely within ourselves.
- 1:11The technique of the separation of the witness consciousness
- 1:14from the external nature is a powerful means for this inward
- 1:18view. We gain the standpoint of the
- 1:21witness who can calmly watch our own internal reactions and
- 1:26responses as if they are external to ourselves, and we
- 1:31can choose to support or withdraw support from those
- 1:36movements. If we take up a critical
- 1:40attitude and use our observation to try to control or change the
- 1:44other person, then we are simply veiling the truth from ourselves
- 1:49and instead of making progress, we are busy creating disruption
- 1:53or conflict with others who may or may not see things the way we
- 1:58see them. This is especially true for
- 2:01individuals who have fixed ideas about what constitutes right and
- 2:05wrong and who try to enforce these ideas on others who may
- 2:10have a totally different view or level of concern on these
- 2:14matters. Fioro Bindo writes quote.
- 2:19Men are always more able to criticize sharply the work of
- 2:22others and tell them how to do things or what not to do, then
- 2:28skillful to avoid the same mistakes themselves.
- 2:31Often indeed, one sees easily in others faults which are there in
- 2:36oneself but which one fails to see.
- 2:39The human mind is not really conscious of itself.
- 2:42That is why in yoga one has always to look and see what is
- 2:46in oneself and become more and more conscious not to judge
- 2:52anyone but oneself until 1 can see things from a calm mind.
- 2:56And a calm vital is an excellent rule.
- 2:59Also, do not allow your mind to form hasty impressions on the
- 3:04strength of some outward appearance, nor your vital to
- 3:07act upon them. There is a place in the inner
- 3:11being where one can always remain calm, and from there look
- 3:15with poise and judgment on the perturbations of the surface
- 3:19consciousness and act upon it to change it.
- 3:24If you can learn to live in that calm of the inner Being, you
- 3:28will have found your stable basis.
