- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Hello everyone.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to Crushing Strongholds.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: This is a podcast where we turn pain into power, trauma into triumph, and just a place where we can become better versions of ourselves.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: It's also a place where we like to expose the lives of the enemy.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: And how do we do that?
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: We do that by equipping believers in the truth, in the grace, and in the word of God.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: So if you have your Bibles today, I hope you get them out because we are going to dive in and discuss what today's topic is.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Today's topic is called your obedience matters.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: What does that mean exactly?
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: What is obedience?
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Well, most people say, well, it means to behave, it means to do the right thing.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: It means making good decisions.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: So, you know, God wants us to be compliant with Him, with His commands, but not out of just a harsh wrath, but also out of love, out of kindness.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: Just like when you're raising your own kids and you're bringing them up and you want them to mind.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: It's not just about authoritative power over a little being like your child.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: It's teaching them so that way they don't get hurt, so that they grow up to be strong, so that they make wise decisions in life.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: So when a little kid is kicking a ball around, the ball goes out in the street, you're going to be obedient and telling them to stop.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Don't go in the road.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: And if they do go in the road, they get disciplined so that they know not to do it again.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: So this is the kind of God that we have.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: God is a loving God.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: And He's also a God that wants us to be compliant.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: And not just blindly, not blind compliance, like literally compliant.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of verses highlighted in the Bible that we're going to dive in today that talk about true obedience and doing the will of God.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: So ask yourself this today.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Are you obedient to the will of God?
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: Are you obedient to God?
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: The obedience is also contrasted with sin, believe it or not.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: Because there's a path to righteousness.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: And if we are living obediently, then we're going to be on that path to righteousness.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Okay?
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: And so we want to think about that for a moment.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: What does that mean?
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: Well, when we die, there's an end.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: There's an end to our life.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: Are we just going to die or are we going to die in righteousness?
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: Because if we die in righteousness, then we have an eternity with God.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: And that's what we desire.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: That's what we should be desiring.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: And we don't want hell.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: And I'm not trying to, you know, make everybody go, oh, oh, she said she said, we're going to go to hell if we don't, if we're not obedient to God.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: We need to know that we do have to answer to God for every single mistake that we've made.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Now, there's no way in the world that I would ever just jump on here and just pour out every sin that I've ever committed in my life.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: For one, I'd be too ashamed.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: For two, um, there's no way I could I could even mention all of the mistakes I've made in my lifetime.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: And for three, I've already I've already taken my my my troubles and my sin to God.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: And so that is where um excuse me, that is where I get to um make my amends.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: I don't have to make my amends with people unless I've sinned against people.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Then I have to make my amends with them.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: So let's look at some of the um aspects, that the just the just the basic main aspects of obedience, love, the act of love, okay?
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Um directly to love God.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Um it says in John 14, 15, if you love me, you keep my commandments.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: That is a direct love.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: That's direct.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: That means without question, without argumentation, without fail, I'm going to do my very best every day to just love you.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna love you.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: You know why?
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Because God loves us.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: That's why he sent Jesus.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: God loves us, okay?
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: He wants us to keep his commandments.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: We're not gonna go over the commandments today, because this is more talking about obedience, and yes, the commandments are part of it, but I don't want to dive into that too deeply today.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: I want to I want to just keep it really narrowed in so that we stay focused on the subject, okay?
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: So, what is a um a response to hearing?
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: What is response to hearing?
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Well, when God's speaking, we need to be listening.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: A lot of times I know people that speak just to respond and not listen, not hear.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Hearing comes by the word of God.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Okay, we have to be hearers and not, you know, hearers and doers, not just not just hearers of the word.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: So in James 1.22, obedience is not just passive hearing, but active doing.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's what hearing is.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: When you're hearing the word of God, and then you go because you heard, and then you heard what he said to do, and you go and do what he says to do, that is being a hearer and a doer of the word of God.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: And we want to be doing both.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: We don't want to just hear the word and let it just fall to the side.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: We don't want it to be wasted, okay?
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: We don't want God to waste his time talking to us.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: How often do you do we um talk to people or even again I'll reference children again because you know they're children, they learn.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: But how many times do you have to repeat yourself to your kids?
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: Over and over and over and over again.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Why?
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Because they're not hearing, they don't respond because they haven't listened, they don't respond because they haven't heard.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: So it's important, even with adults, grown adults do this.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: I've even done this myself where I've been distracted, and somebody's talking to me, I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: And I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but I'm just like, my mind is somewhere else, and I'm distracted in my thoughts.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: So I will literally be thinking to myself, I don't really know what they just said, but okay, uh-huh, okay, mm-hmm.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: And just agree.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Well, they're gonna expect, they're gonna expect something right from me.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: They're gonna expect that I heard what they said, and if they ask me to do something for them, they're gonna expect me to do it.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Are we hearing to respond?
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Or are we just hearing not to respond?
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: We should be hearing to respond, okay?
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: We definitely want to be hearing to respond, okay?
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: So there's a a Hebrew Hebrew concept, it's called Shima, and it literally means to hear and respond.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: So we want to be Shima.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: Let's be Shema.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Okay, we want to hear and respond, not just hear, and not also just respond.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: Some people don't listen and they respond, and that's why they get it wrong.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Because their response has nothing to do with what the person said.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: If God says, Hey, I gave you the four gospels, I want you to go out and share the gospels, and you don't, you go do something different.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: You're responding incorrectly to what you should have been hearing and listening to, if that makes any sense.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: So we really want to be clear on what we're hearing and what we are doing.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: So, another um thought to obedience is when we're obedient to God, He lays out a path of blessings, blessings and promises.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: I love this.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: I love this.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: We're gonna get to a couple of those.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna share a couple with you today.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: But what is a blessing?
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: What is a path of blessing?
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: So when you're obedient to God, God wants to bless you, He wants to reward you.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: How often do you do something for somebody that went out of their way to do something for you?
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: Or your kids, they listened to you and um they got rewarded with a blessing.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: They came home, they got their homework done, they did their chores, now they get to go spend the night at their friend's house, or they get to hang out with their buddy, or they get to go ride their bike, or they get to go to the park, or they get to go play, or they get to do video games, or you know, just whatever.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: So, what is it that you're wanting and desiring?
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: Now, we don't want to just be obedient because we're gonna get something from it.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: We want to be obedient because it's the right thing to do, okay?
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: So it's really important that we understand how much it matters to be obedient.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: Okay, the Bible promises blessings for those who are willing and obedient.
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: So you have to be willing.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: You just have to be willing, okay?
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: Such as being set high above other nations, we want to be willing to be obedient to God.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: That means not conforming to the world, not taking part in certain things in the world.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: That's being obedient.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: And when we're obedient like that, God blesses us, okay?
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: Now, let's talk about a contrast to sin.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Okay, there are verses that present obedience and sin as opposing choices.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we do something that we shouldn't be doing, where obedience leads to righteousness and sin leads to death, like I spoke about a little earlier.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: So if we're being obedient, we're being right.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: That's what righteousness means.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: We're walking in righteousness, we're walking in an upright spirit of correct obedience and behavior.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: Now, when you have um or know a person that continues to walk in sin, where does it lead them?
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: What path do they take?
- 10:28SPEAKER_00: Some people get away with it, some people spend a lifetime in prison.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: So we have to be careful of we have to be careful if we're gonna dabble in sin.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: We can't have righteousness and walk in sin because sin does lead to death, sometimes an early death.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: Sometimes God will just take us out because we just don't we just don't behave.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: So we he'll take us out, so we have to behave.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: So sometimes um we look at obedience.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: Well, most obedience is a learned behavior.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Okay, now being raised and learning life lessons um can set you on a path of righteousness or on a path of death.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Obedience can be developed and it can be strengthened through experiences and also suffering.
- 11:27SPEAKER_00: If you've suffered stuff, you you will you will experience um what it's like to be obedient.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: Sometimes when um we go through life and certain things happen and we're suffering for it, God isn't trying to be mean.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: People go, why is God so mean?
- 11:47SPEAKER_00: He's not mean, he's a very loving God.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: But sometimes we have to have things happen so that we learn lessons.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: So let's look at some verses.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: If you have your Bible, take your Bible out, let's get in some.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: Um, we're gonna be diving into King James verses.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: And today I'm gonna be looking at Isaiah 1 19.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: It says, this is a good, this is a good um scripture.
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: It says, if ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: What does that mean?
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: It means if we are willing to be obedient to God, God's gonna give us the good fruits of the land.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: He's gonna feed us well, he's gonna give us nice things, we're gonna endure.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: Okay, that is a promise.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: Isaiah 119.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: If you're looking for a promise from God, that's it today.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: Write it down, put it on a sticky note, put it on your mirror, whatever you gotta do.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: This is a promise from God that if you are willing and obedient, you will eat of the good of the land.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: Not the rotten fruit.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: You're gonna get the good stuff, the fresh, the wholesome, the best of the best.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: That's what God wants us to have.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: That's his promise for us.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: Let's look at Jeremiah 7.23.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: It says, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: Can you imagine if you just behave towards God, he's willing to be your God.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: You have your very own God.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: Very own God.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: He's all he's yours, he's your God.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: Okay?
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: If you're obedient, if you if if you obey his voice, if you listen to him, he wants us to listen to him.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: And um we are called his people.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: We are his people.
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: The word of God talks a lot about his people and how much his people mean to him.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: But how do we become his people?
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: We listen to his voice and we do what he says, and then he becomes our God.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: He's our God.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: God is my God.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: I have a God, he's mine, he can be yours too.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: If you're saved and you're obedient, you have God too.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: He's yours.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: Okay?
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: Now let's look at Romans 6, 16.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: It says, Know ye not that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey, whether of sin unto death or of obedience unto righteousness.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: So who are we serving?
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: Are we serving God or are we serving people?
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: We need to know who we're serving.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: The enemy is a liar.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: The enemy is Roman rampant, and he is having a field day.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: And if he can get you to serve him and not God, that's exactly what the enemy wants to do.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: Who are you serving?
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: You need to make sure you are serving the God of this Bible, not the enemy.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: We want to serve God, okay?
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: There is only one God, okay?
- 15:11SPEAKER_00: Only one God, and we want to make sure we are serving him because it's gonna lead to either death or righteousness, depending on how we serve, okay.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: Let's look at another verse.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: Let's look at Hebrews 5, 8.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: Okay, it says, Though he, though he were a son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: Okay, sometimes when we go through things, like Job, Job in the Bible went through a lot, a lot, okay, a lot of suffering.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: Okay, God allowed Job to suffer, like immensely suffer.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: And I used to always think, man, Lord, don't let me be like Job.
- 16:00SPEAKER_00: Please don't ever put me in the position of being like Job.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: But um, if we learn how to take our suffering and understand that it some of it is for for obedience in God's teaching us um how to endure, how to get through, how to overcome the obstacles that we face.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: God wants us to know that we can do it.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: We are strong in Him.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: He gives us the strength to overcome the obstacles that cause the suffering.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: I've dealt with a lot of things in my life where I've suffered gravely.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: Um God's taught me how to use those life lessons for the good and the glory of God.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: Not always did I ever want to.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: Not always did I, you know, think that, oh, this is this suffering is a great thing.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: A lot of people don't walk around and be like, hey, I like this suffering.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: I like what we're doing, I like what's happening.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: Most people do not do that.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: I guarantee you, most people don't walk around saying how much they like to suffer.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: Matter of fact, I can't think of one.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: So, but how do we act during our suffering?
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: What do we do?
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: What's our behavior like?
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: When you're going to the grocery store and you're having a bad day, and you encounter a cashier that's also having a bad day.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: And um, you're getting your food, you're checking out, and the cashier is just throwing your stuff around.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: Throwing your stuff around, your bread, your eggs, just you know, just just going through the emotions, but not even being not being diligent, not being careful, just literally just, and you're watching them and it and it's it's agitating you.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 17:50SPEAKER_00: And um I wonder what your response is.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: What is your response going to be?
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: You're already in it, you're already irritated, you're already in a mood, um, you're having a bad day.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: Obviously, that person's having a bad day.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: How are you going to respond?
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: See, God looks at us with how we respond to things and how we respond to certain situations.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: And the outcome of that response also can be a blessing or a curse.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: It could be a blessing.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: If we handle it, maybe you walk up, and even though you're having the worst day, the worst day ever, okay?
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: Maybe the kids were late to school, the car wouldn't start, now you gotta go get groceries, you don't have any food in the house to make dinner, and you gotta hurry up and get it done, and then and then you still have to go to work.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: And just things are not working the way you want them to work that day.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: Everything is behind.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 18:43SPEAKER_00: And then you encounter this cashier who's having a miserable day too.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: And now two heads are gonna be they're gonna be like button heads, you know, like two ramps.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: We don't want to do that.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: Do you diffuse the situation or do you escalate the situation?
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: There's times when I've had adult people and um I've escalated the situation because I was irritated, because I was tired, because I was not feeling good, because of whatever, whatever my excuses were.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: And it didn't benefit me at all, by the way.
- 19:13SPEAKER_00: It really didn't benefit me at all.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: It didn't benefit the whole situation either, it just made it worse.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: It makes it worse.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: Um, so if you're dealing with the situation, de-escalate it.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: Go up to the cashier and say, Hey, how are you today?
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: How's your day going?
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: Are you okay?
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: Sometimes they need you, even though you're having the worst day, going up and making someone else's day better will make your day better.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: It's kind of contagious, it really is.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: And it's hard sometimes to act out like that when you're already frustrated and you're having a day.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: So think about that.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: Your behavior and how you react, God will bless or curse.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: You gotta be careful.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: Excuse me.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: You have to be careful how you're acting.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's look at another scripture.
- 20:11SPEAKER_00: Let's look at Acts 29.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: It says, But Peter and the apostles answered, we must obey God rather than men.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: We must obey God.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: God says to obey him.
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: We are to obey him.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: It is a commandment.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: Obedience is a commandment.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: When you tell your kids, you're going to do this, or there will be grave consequences, they would be wise to be obedient.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: Am I correct?
- 20:43SPEAKER_00: Or if they're gonna really take a chance to see what's gonna happen, what buttons are they gonna really push to see if you're really serious or not?
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: And you have to be oh serious, you have to be serious about what you put.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: When you put down your foot, you have to be serious about it.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: When um the laws are laid down, the law is serious.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: If you run a light, you get pulled over, you get a ticket.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: Sometimes you get the grace card.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: Most of the time you're gonna get a ticket.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: Okay?
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: If you get pulled over.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: Um, and a lot of people were like, oh man, I'm getting pulled over, but were you being obedient to the laws?
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: Your kid wants to go spend a night.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: Are they being obedient?
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: Did they get their chores done?
- 21:24SPEAKER_00: Is your schoolwork done?
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: How's their attitude been?
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: How are they behaving?
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: Do they deserve to go?
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: And sometimes I know we let them go when they shouldn't go.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: I'm guilty of this, by the way.
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: But there's times when they don't get to do things because they absolutely have been horrible.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: Their behavior has not been on point.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: So you have to kind of pick and choose your battles in the lessons that you're trying to learn, the lessons you're trying to teach.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: Um, but even in that, as parents, if we don't discipline our kids, we're not being obedient.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: To God.
- 22:01SPEAKER_00: If we do not discipline our own children, we are not in obedience with Christ.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: We have to be obedient.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: So we have to learn how to act.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: We need to learn how to obey.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: And here's the thing: here's the kicker.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: A lot of people will listen to what man has to say about it.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: They'll take man's opinion and they'll put it before God's opinion.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: They'll take man's word and put it before God.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: This scripture right here says we must obey, excuse me, we must obey God rather than men.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: We are not to obey men.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: Period.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: God is our heavenly Father, our daddy, the one who's raising us, the one who gave us this word that is our instruction manual to tell us how we are to live.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: Okay?
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: And we are not to follow after men and what men do, because that men make mistakes.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: We as people, as human beings, we make mistakes.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: We're not perfect.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: And we never will be.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: It's impossible for us to be perfect.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: So when we're thinking about it today, we have to consider um, you know, just a few things.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: And um, I want to look at this real quick so I can talk to you about it.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: Sorry about that.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: So um in in the Bible, there's probably about I think there's like like I think it's like 85 or 90 verses that that talk about obedience.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: And like in Romans 5.19, it says, for as by one man's disobedience, many were made sinners.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: Because of one man's disobedience.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: When Adam sinned, look how disobedient the entire world came through one sin.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: Okay, that was one man.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: That's what they're talking about right there.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: So by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: That's why Jesus was sent.
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: Jesus came to be our Savior because God knew we couldn't be perfect, and we're never going to be perfect.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: Now, walking in obedience doesn't mean you're perfect.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: It just means that you love God and you believe in his word and what he says, and he wants to fulfill his promises, he wants to bless you with all of the things that he wants to give you if you're obedient.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: Now, have you ever encountered a time when you see other people like in the church and they're just getting blessed and blessed and blessed and blessed?
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: And you think, man, why are they constantly, constantly being blessed?
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: What's up with that?
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: I want to be, I want to be blessed.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: Are you being obedient?
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: God probably wants to bless you, but if you're not walking in obedience, the blessings probably won't come.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: So let's look at four different types, four different types of being obedient.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: There's fear-based obedience.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: So when we talk about God's wrath and we talk about hell, that's kind of where that comes from for me.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: So when we disobey, we need to understand that with disobedience, there's going to be punishment.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: And I don't know about you, but I don't know anybody that actually really enjoys getting punished for stuff that they do wrong.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: And I don't know about you.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: How many times have you sinned and were not obedient to God and God didn't punish you?
- 26:06SPEAKER_00: He just kind of let you live your free will.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: And sometimes with that, people, I think, because there was no punishment, I think people think, oh, I got away with it.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: That leads us into more disobedience.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: We have to be careful of that.
- 26:25SPEAKER_00: Okay?
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: Now there's duty-based, there's duty-based obedience.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: You're doing it out of obligation.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: Are you literally being loyal?
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: Are you just being loyal?
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: Then there's love-based obedience, which means just out of love and affection.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, we want to be obedient because we love God and because he loves us.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: He is our God.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: We have our own God, which is really crazy.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: Um, we need to be obeying out of our affection and our faith.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: Our faith.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: We don't want to obey just to get rewarded.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: Um, we don't want to obey just because we're afraid.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: We need to obey because God loves us and he wants to protect us, just like you love your kids.
- 27:27SPEAKER_00: You don't want to discipline your kids and have them just be completely afraid of you.
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: Now you want them to have a certain amount of fear because you want them to know you're serious.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: You got you're putting your foot down, and this is this is how it's gonna be.
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: Okay, so that they can learn, you know, valuable life lessons, what to do, what not to do.
- 27:49SPEAKER_00: Okay, that's why that's what obedience is.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: So if you think about it today and the different types of obedience, um, why does our obedience matter?
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: Why does it matter?
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: Well, our obedience matters because um it matters to God, and God says to be obedient.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: That's why He gave Moses the Ten Commandments, just ten, ten rules to follow, not hundreds, not thousands, ten, and people break them every single day, which I'm sure breaks God's heart every day.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: But we need to be mindful.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: What are we doing?
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: What are we what are we as Christians doing, as believers in Christ?
- 28:42SPEAKER_00: What is our obedience like?
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: And yes, we are if if if if you truly are a Christian, truly, not the sugar-coated Christian, truly a Christian, what does your walk look like?
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: What does your talk look like?
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: Are you sharing the gospel?
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: The word says we are to go out and share the gospel.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: We are to get the good news out there to people that Jesus is our Savior.
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: God sent his one and only Son to die on a cross so that we could be saved from the wicked ways of this world.
- 29:21SPEAKER_00: I don't know, that's a lot.
- 29:23SPEAKER_00: If somebody did that for me, I know I'd be eternally grateful.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: I am eternally grateful.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: I'm thankful all the way.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: I'm excited and and and and I'm honored that God would send his son to die for me.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: A sinner, like I was.
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: And being that Jesus did die for me, now I live underneath the righteousness and the perfect blood of Jesus Christ.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: That's why your obedience matters today.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: So I just want to ask you, where are you at?
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: Are you are you in the middle of transitioning?
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: Are you sitting on the fence?
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: One day you're good, the next day you're bad.
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we're bad on purpose.
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we just do things purposely.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: Just because we're annoyed.
- 30:19SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we don't do things on purpose.
- 30:22SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we just sin and we don't even realize we're sinning.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: That's why we have grace and mercy.
- 30:29SPEAKER_00: That's why I'm thankful for the cross.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: I'm thankful for God did.
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: But we need to walk in our obedience.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: That's the least we can do for what Jesus did for us.
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: That is literally the least we can do.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: Okay?
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: He gave us a God-given purpose.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: The least we can do is walk out, walk it out in obedience.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: We need to have a heart posture.
- 30:57SPEAKER_00: We need to be showing what we are doing for Jesus.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 31:03SPEAKER_00: Um, and we need to do it out of love.
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: If we do that, we're we're doing it out of love manifestation.
- 31:09SPEAKER_00: Um, because we love Jesus.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: I love Jesus.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: Jesus died for me.
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: No man is gonna go out and die for you.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: Nobody out there in the world is gonna die for you.
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: I mean, maybe, maybe, but not the way Jesus did.
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: Where they're gonna come and say, I'm willing to take on all of the wrongdoings that you've ever done in your life, I'm willing to take them for myself and get the punishment for it.
- 31:42SPEAKER_00: I don't know about you.
- 31:43SPEAKER_00: I don't know any people that would really do that.
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: Um, people will say they'll do it, but when it comes, if it were to come down to it, you know, would they really do it?
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: Would that be the truth?
- 31:56SPEAKER_00: So I just want to encourage you today.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: I want to encourage you to just sit back for five minutes.
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: Just sit back and think about how you behave, what your obedience looks like to God.
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: Are you doing the right thing?
- 32:15SPEAKER_00: Are you walking out what this word, this Bible, all of these words in here, are you walking out what it says to do in the Bible?
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: And the best way to walk it out is to be in it every day.
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: Get in your word so the word gets into you.
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: We want God's word, you know, we want God's word inside of us because he loves us, he gave us this word to live by.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: So I just want to encourage you, Save, as we go into closing.
- 32:54SPEAKER_00: Also, if you need um if you need prayer for anything, reach out to me.
- 32:59SPEAKER_00: I'd be happy to pray for you.

- 33:18SPEAKER_00: And I'll be happy to pray with you.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: If if you're not sure exactly how to walk in obedience, but you want to get better at it, I'll be happy to I'll be happy to give you some clarity.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: Nobody's gonna do it perfectly, and nobody's gonna do it like you.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: Nobody's gonna do it like me.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: My walk with the Lord is not the same as everyone else's.
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: It's mine.
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: God is mine, and my walk with the Lord is mine.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: So I just want to encourage you to spend some time in the Word today and figure out where you stand with obedience.
- 33:55SPEAKER_00: Does your obedience matter?
- 33:59SPEAKER_00: Does it matter to you?
- 34:00SPEAKER_00: Your obedience should matter to you.
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: You should be thinking about it consciously.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: You should be thinking about how we act and behave.
- 34:11SPEAKER_00: So, anyhow, I just want to thank you all for being here today.
