- 0:00Second, John, let us pray. Our Father who is in heaven, we
- 0:06love you. God, we love everything about
- 0:08you. We love your eternal words.
- 0:10We love how you move. Lord, we love the freedom that
- 0:13comes God, the liberty that you have set us at.
- 0:17God, we thank you for the love that we share with one another.
- 0:22We thank you that we can know love.
- 0:23We thank you God for the church. Lord, we thank you for the
- 0:27brotherhood. We thank you, God, that you have
- 0:30knit us together, Lord, as community.
- 0:32Lord, I pray in the name of Jesus for righteous judges.
- 0:36I pray in the name of Jesus for mothers who are struggling with
- 0:40the choice to keep life. Lord, I pray that you'll help
- 0:43them to make the right decision, Lord, to choose life.
- 0:47Father, I pray that you will help us through all of our
- 0:50infirmities, God, heal our broken bodies, heal our minds,
- 0:54Lord, give us sound mind. Give us sound doctrine and sound
- 0:58theology. Lord, you come in, you take up
- 1:01residence, You speak boldly and mightily to this generation.
- 1:05God, let your words reign supreme.
- 1:08Let your words reverberate and resound through the rafters.
- 1:12God, in the highest places, in the loftiest places, the name of
- 1:16Jesus Christ high and lifted up and exalted above every other
- 1:20name. For yours is the Kingdom, and
- 1:23the glory and the honor forever. And it's in Jesus Christ, holy
- 1:27and precious name that I pray. Amen.
- 1:31Well, let's start in verse one, the elder unto the elect lady
- 1:36and her children whom I love in the truth.
- 1:38And not only I but also all they that have known the truth is
- 1:44John, who is very elderly at this time.
- 1:48He's no longer just an apostle, but now he is an elder.
- 1:52He's probably around 90 years old, AD 90.
- 1:57The temple in Jerusalem has already been destroyed, and here
- 2:01he is writing covertly to this lady.
- 2:05Perhaps he's writing to a church.
- 2:08Perhaps the children here are the congregants, the Christians
- 2:13during the time of persecution, and he did not want to just name
- 2:17somebody. They've already tried to kill
- 2:20John and they could not. They put him in oil.
- 2:23He would not die. He's been on the island of
- 2:25Patmos and here he is. And as an elder, writing perhaps
- 2:30to the church which he personifies as the lady and the
- 2:35congregants as the children. Verse 2 for the truth's sake,
- 2:41which dwells in US and shall be with us forever, Jesus Christ is
- 2:46the truth. And we spent five chapters going
- 2:49through first John talking about love.
- 2:52Love and God is love and we don't even know love and we
- 2:56can't even love unless we know God and he loved us first.
- 2:59And it's all about love. And here he has to
- 3:02counterbalance it with truth, which is the whole premise of
- 3:09Second John. He wants to talk about truth.
- 3:13He wants us to be rooted and grounded in truth.
- 3:16And we must speak the truth in love.
- 3:24It is possible to love somebody into hell by not telling them
- 3:31about the plain truths of what the Bible teaches.
- 3:35We can be so loving that we are silent on the matters that God
- 3:41has spoken of so plainly. And that is what John wants us
- 3:47to talk about. He wants us to know.
- 3:49It's what God wanted, John to sit down and pin these words for
- 3:54us, these eternal words, these God breathed words for us to
- 3:58study. And the basis is truth.
- 4:03And we must stand on the truth, friends.
- 4:06We cannot just be wishy washy. We cannot just be double minded.
- 4:12We cannot just say that we believe something and then be
- 4:17silent on those matters. When it comes to people who are
- 4:20living in sin, we must speak up and speak out about the things
- 4:27that are on God's heart. And abortion, friends, is murder
- 4:35and homosexuality is a sin. And we need to be talking about
- 4:43these things to people in love. It is not that we are hateful.
- 4:48It is not that we are closed minded.
- 4:52It is not that we are misogynistic.
- 4:55It is not that we, our people, who exude the hatefulness that
- 5:09the world wants to stamp upon us.
- 5:11That is not what is truthful. To speak truth in love is to
- 5:18tell people about what the Bible says.
- 5:23And the Bible is plain that it is one woman and one man.
- 5:28The Bible is plain that we should always choose life.
- 5:33The Bible is plain that the family unit is on the heart of
- 5:38God and that marriage is to be honored and that the Bible is
- 5:47the authority over the land. We don't get to fudge on these
- 5:52realities. We don't get to marginalized
- 5:55them. It is not our place to try to
- 5:58make an apology for what God's word says.
- 6:01We stand on the solid rock friends.
- 6:05We call things for what they are based upon the word of God.
- 6:10But it is ignorance of the word of God that is plaguing the
- 6:14church at large. It is because we refuse to get
- 6:17in it into digest it, into meditate upon it.
- 6:21And we just want these popcorn sermons.
- 6:23We just want all of these little short videos.
- 6:26We want these sound bites. And we want to just go about our
- 6:30way and have our little cushy life without having to be
- 6:34confrontational with our neighbors.
- 6:37And that is what is plaguing us, and it is cancer in the bones of
- 6:43the church and God here through John, John writing to the
- 6:47church, wants us to know that we must not only love, but we must
- 6:54stand on truth. And Jesus Christ is the way, the
- 6:58truth and the life. And no one comes unto the Father
- 7:01except through Him. And we do not make any apologies
- 7:06for that reality. Verse 3 Grace be with you, mercy
- 7:12and peace from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ
- 7:17the Son of the Father in truth and love.
- 7:21So here you can see all these attributes that belong to God
- 7:26and are available to us. He wants to give us grace.
- 7:30He wants to shower us with grace.
- 7:32He wants to love us. He wants to be merciful towards
- 7:38us and give us the peace with God.
- 7:40He wants us to have a relationship with not only God
- 7:44the Father, but the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son.
- 7:47And it's all hinged upon him. We come to the Father through
- 7:52Jesus Christ and we experience the truth because Jesus is the
- 7:56truth and we don't even know what love is unless we know God.
- 8:01Verse 4I rejoiced greatly that I found of your children walking
- 8:07in truth as we have received a commandment from the Father.
- 8:13So here John is looking, and he says that he is rejoicing
- 8:17because he sees that people are following after the Lord Jesus
- 8:20Christ, and it brings him so much joy to see a healthy,
- 8:25vibrant community. 5 And now I beg you, lady, not as though I
- 8:32wrote a new commandment unto you, but that which we had from
- 8:37the beginning, that we love one another.
- 8:40So here he has just gone through a discourse of talking about the
- 8:44truth and standing on the truth, and he wants it to be
- 8:47counterbalanced with love. Now he returns back to the five
- 8:52chapters of first John talking about the love of God for US.
- 8:58Six. And this is love, that we walk
- 9:02after his commandments. This is the commandment that, as
- 9:06you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in
- 9:11it. It is not some vague
- 9:15presupposition, guesswork. When it comes to what the Lord
- 9:19asks of us, He is plain and it is clear.
- 9:23Friends, to love the Lord your God with all your heart, with
- 9:27all your mind, with all your strength, and to love your
- 9:30neighbor as yourself and everything is wrapped up.
- 9:34All the commandments are wrapped up in that.
- 9:37It is love, friends. Love is the basis of it all, and
- 9:42it is hateful for us to withhold the truth from people and to
- 9:49allow them to believe that they are justified in their
- 9:54behaviors, lifestyles, actions and choices by us being silent
- 10:01about it. And Jesus says unless you hate
- 10:04your mother and father, your spouse, and you have no part
- 10:08with him. And that is what it looks like
- 10:10whenever we choose the world over Jesus Christ.
- 10:15That is what happens when somebody in your family comes
- 10:20out, somebody in your family tells you that they're
- 10:24homosexual and you choose their lifestyle over the plain
- 10:30teachings of the word of God that says it is an abomination,
- 10:35friends. And we all make our own choices
- 10:41in this life and we have to live with them.
- 10:44And we all make mistakes. And the blood of Jesus Christ
- 10:47covers all of our sins, past, present, and future.
- 10:53This is not condemnation, friends.
- 10:55This is the love of God. He gives us the remedy and He
- 11:00offers the forgiveness if we will take it.
- 11:03But we cannot continue to live in perpetual sin and say that we
- 11:08love God at the same time. That is not reality, that is not
- 11:14truthful, that is a lie. Is if you say you love God, but
- 11:19you continue on to live in a sinful lifestyle and you see
- 11:24nothing wrong with it. 7 For many deceivers are entered into
- 11:35the world who confess not that Jesus Christ has come in the
- 11:38flesh. This is a deceiver and an
- 11:42Antichrist. This is not the Antichrist.
- 11:45This is the spirit of the Antichrist that has already gone
- 11:48out into the world and they deny the deity of Jesus Christ.
- 11:52Plainly they do not believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that
- 11:58Jesus is God, that Jesus is the Godson, fully man and fully God.
- 12:06They do not believe it, they deny it.
- 12:08He is just another Jesus. He is an other Jesus.
- 12:12He is a marginalized Jesus. They call him the Son, but they
- 12:16say that he is not deity. They call him a prophet, but
- 12:20they do not acknowledge that he is God.
- 12:22And that is the spirit of Antichrist friends.
- 12:26And they creep in. And this is the Antichrist is a
- 12:30replacement Christ. And if you go back and study
- 12:34Isaiah chapter 14, if you go back and study Ezekiel 28,
- 12:38you're going to find that Lucifer wanted to be higher than
- 12:42God. He wanted to be worshipped as
- 12:44God. And it is no surprise whenever
- 12:47he sets up a false religion to be worshipped by and he will not
- 12:52acknowledge that Jesus Christ is eternal and that Jesus Christ is
- 12:58the Trinity, God the Father, and God the Son and God the Holy
- 13:02Ghost. Three in one, friends.
- 13:05They will not acknowledge that. And they say the right jargon.
- 13:10They have all of the right words that trap people in that
- 13:15religion. But when you peel back the
- 13:18layers of it, it is satanic at its core.
- 13:22A look to yourselves that we lose not those things which we
- 13:28have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.
- 13:33So you can see that you can lose your rewards, you can lose your
- 13:37footing with the Lord if you are not scrupulous in all of your
- 13:45study and all of the meditation upon God's Word, if you are just
- 13:53skating by, if you're just skimming the surface, if you
- 13:57refuse to grow and to mature in your faith, then you will be LED
- 14:02astray and lose your rewards. 9 Whosoever transgresses and
- 14:12abides not in the doctrine of Christ has not God.
- 14:18He that abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father
- 14:23and the Son. They're synonymous.
- 14:26They are the same friends, different persons, but the same
- 14:31in their deity, and all from the beginning before the foundations
- 14:36of the earth. And far be for us to try to call
- 14:41any of it into question, and to try to call God into the
- 14:45courtroom and ask Him to explain to us how it could be.
- 14:49So we read it and we believe it, and that settles it, friends.
- 14:54And he's saying if you transgress and you do not abide
- 14:57in the doctrine of Christ, he could not have made it more
- 15:01plain. He came here as a little baby.
- 15:03He lived a perfect, sinful, sinless life.
- 15:07He'd never sin. He was innocent, friends, and He
- 15:12suffered on a criminal's cross, and took our sins, and gave us
- 15:19His righteousness. He imputed to us His perfection,
- 15:24His innocence. Friends, it cannot be any more
- 15:27plain that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
- 15:32Jesus Christ is the only begotten.
- 15:34It is God who put on flesh. It is God who put on humanity to
- 15:39come and to offer a remedy for our sinful lifestyles, friends,
- 15:46and that's available to anybody. If you woke up this morning,
- 15:50there is a chance for you to make it right to put your full
- 15:54faith in Him. And it does not matter if you're
- 15:57stuck in a sinful lifestyle or if you have made 1000 sinful
- 16:04decisions. Today is the day of salvation.
- 16:08You give your life over to Him today.
- 16:10You don't wait, friends. Tomorrow it might be too late.
- 16:15Your life is but a vapor. It's here today and it's gone
- 16:18tomorrow that this is the day of salvation.
- 16:21This is the time, friends, that we are to put your faith in Him
- 16:26and all of the sins that you have ever committed will become
- 16:30covered in the blood of Jesus Christ.
- 16:32They are forgiven and will never be counted against you if you
- 16:36will turn away from that sinful behavior and that sinful
- 16:40lifestyle and turn towards a loving, gracious God who gave us
- 16:46the covering so that we could be passed over in the Day of
- 16:50Judgment. And if there come any unto you
- 16:57and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house,
- 17:01neither bid him Godspeed. So here what John is wanting us
- 17:08to know is we do not need to support those people
- 17:12financially. We do not need to support those
- 17:16people in deed or in action or in hospitality that are
- 17:21spreading the false gospel. We do not need to put on a good
- 17:29face and a good show. We need to speak the truth in
- 17:33love and just tell them that they are in a cult.
- 17:39Tell them that they are deceived.
- 17:42Tell them that you have nothing for them but you are going to
- 17:49pray for them and pray for their salvation but don't have
- 17:53anything to do with them in the sense of supporting them.
- 17:58Friends, do not say Godspeed to you, which by the way was about
- 18:043 mph when Jesus Christ walked this earth.
- 18:07Do not say Godspeed to them, which is a way of saying God
- 18:12bless you, God bless your ministry.
- 18:16And that is not what we are to do.
- 18:18God is not in it. When people are propagating
- 18:22false doctrine and false theology and leading many people
- 18:26astray, unaware, we who are rooted and grounded in God's
- 18:31Word know better. And when they come to us and
- 18:35they deny the Trinity, they deny God the Father and God the Son.
- 18:40They deny God the Holy Ghost when they deny it.
- 18:44Friends, we have nothing to do with them.
- 18:48Pray for them only 11 For he that bids him Godspeed is
- 18:55partaker of his evil deeds. It is evil for these people to
- 19:00go around trying to deceive people.
- 19:03They have the spirit of the Antichrist in them, and they're
- 19:06leading people astray in droves. The Jehovah's Witnesses, the
- 19:12Mormons, the Roman Catholic, the Muslims, they are leading people
- 19:19astray in droves. Friends, they are teaching a
- 19:23false Jesus, and it is not from God.
- 19:29It is evil in its core. 12 having many things to write unto
- 19:37you. I would not write with paper and
- 19:38ink, but I trust to come unto you and speak face to face that
- 19:42our joy may be full. So John is saying, I'd rather
- 19:46just speak to you. But we know that this is an
- 19:49inspired letter. God breathed, Holy Spirit
- 19:53ordained, and we are eternally thankful that John sat down to
- 19:58write this letter, moved, and he was.
- 20:03Inspired by the Holy Ghost and now we can have it and imagine
- 20:08all the conversations that he had that were not recorded
- 20:13friends imagine all the beautiful things he had to say.
- 20:16But aren't we eternally grateful for these words being pinned
- 20:20down and God breathed for us to have.
- 20:24We'll end on 13. The children of your elect
- 20:28sister greet you. Amen.
- 20:31Perhaps another church in that vicinity sent greetings to this
- 20:36church and they were all congruent together.
- 20:41This beautiful tapestry, this network of primitive churches
- 20:46that John was writing to, as they started to get some feet,
- 20:52started to grow some roots as John, the very last apostle out
- 20:58of the 12 disciples left as at a old age.
- 21:02He's already seen the temple destroyed in 8070, and now he is
- 21:07writing to these little startup churches, encouraging them.
- 21:12What an amazing book in God's word.
- 21:14I hope you've been blessed by it.
- 21:16I know I sure have. I'm praying for every single one
- 21:19of you. I love you.
- 21:21We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 21:23God bless you.
