- Molly: Hello and welcome back to another episode of Bona and Mira Tarot. I am absolutely chuffed, delighted, privileged, so pleasured to welcome my guest, Bree, today. Bree, can you tell the listeners who you are, what it is that you do, your relationship with Tarot, and how it is that you make meaning in your life? Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Yes. Thanks for being here, everybody. Thank you for having me. I am Bree from The Story Tarot and I've created this page to build a community to really focus on how powerful the story is. Since I was a little I love telling the story. Since since I was little, before I could even read, I'd line up my stuffed animals and I would hold the book and read to them. Just like memorizing the whole story without even actually being to read the words. And that was core. And I feel like so many times in my life, stories have gotten me through or characters have inspired me to be strong enough or to continue with what I'm doing or to just inspire me. So that's a core element of why I exist the way I do, but also why I tur ⁓ I teach and read and educate people about tarot. Because for me, Tarot is like meeting real people. It's meeting these characters that are there to help you, whether you want them to or not. Sometimes a character comes up, as I'm sure we're gonna find out in our little game here, and you're like, I'm cool, I really don't want your advice, but they're like, No, no, no, no, no. I really need you to hear this message. So that's that's I I love it. I s I feel tarot is an extension of the story and once you learn that story, you can know your story, you can tell your story, and things get way cooler. Molly: Thank you so much. What a lovely story. I love the image of you like reading to your stuffed animals. That is so delightful and something that I really resonate with around like story and the importance of story mythology within my life but also within the tarot. I'm to do a small shout out to another podcast that I do now. It reminds me of I host another podcast with a my dear friend Libby and we are both huge Lord of the Rings nerds and we we talk about Lord of the Rings and tarot and depth psychology. There is a particular episode where I give Gandalf a reading, which is so cool. But all this to say, like I there have been moments in my life where I'm, you know, feeling overwhelmed or I'm feeling not strong enough and For me, I go to Lord of the Rings and it's like, okay, like these characters give me strength, they give me hope, they give me guidance. And Tarot is also another extension of that. These are real, very much extensions of me, which is why I think the game works, right? Like these are, like this is not just, it's not just the court cards that we're working with. Each card has its specific energy, its specific. texture or flavor which you can engage with. So I am super excited. Are you ready to make some potentially questionable choices? Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Absolutely. Grammy, you ready? My cat's ready too. Molly: cat and grimmies ready. Perfect. Here we go. So we're going to pull three cards. And this is where we do like the ⁓ awkward shuffle, ⁓ know, like when you've kind of got to pause for a second. so, so, so, so, so. Ooh, okay. Some interesting ones. We have got the nine of pentacles. We have got the queen of swords. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Interesting. Molly: Hmm and he's already shown up in one episode before but we've got the king of wands Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Hehe. I should put on my crown. It's over there. Molly: So, King of Wands? Mmm, yeah, go get the crown. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: I'm gonna go get it. Grammy you stay here. So funny story. I actually made this crown. Well I'll it's out of aluminum foil, but I think you say aluminium foil, right? Molly: We do say aluminium, yeah. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Yeah, this was actually off of a ⁓ burrito that I had. And I was like, I need to make a crown as a prop for my video and I was like, Shit, I don't have any aluminum foil. I was like, But I had a burrito and so actually like the tape that says like the burrito the burrito is on the side somewhere. Molly: Ha the queen of burritos. ⁓ Love it. So you now are fully prepared for this choice with your aluminium foil crown. ⁓ So we had nine of pentacles, queen of swords and king of wands. What are kind of your initial thoughts, initial responses about this lineup? Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Absolutely. Yes. Okay, so it's it's fuck Mary push off a cliff, right? Molly: That is the one. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Okay. I I mean Queen of Swords is like she is one of my favorite cards of all time. She's on my day one. Temperance is my day one. She's always my be my day one. But Queen of Swords has a really special place for me. And so I feel like I would definitely marry Queen of Swords because I love how she thinks. I love how she is. I love how she represents herself with such strength and structure and respect. And I also love the fact that some people think she's like, ⁓ the cold hearted bitch card and you're like, No, no, no, no, no, no. She is on your side if you're on the right side if you're on the right side of things. So a hundred percent, like Queen of Swords when she popped up, I like, Okay, that that's set. Well she's she's gonna be with me. Molly: Hmm. I also have a really special relationship with the Queen of Swords. Mostly due to kind of my unfolding relationship with setting boundaries. You know, like in a previous life, I say previous lifetime, not that many years ago when I found speaking my truth. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Ha ha Molly: honoring my boundaries really difficult, then I found the Queen of Swords really confronting and I found her to be really cold and direct. And I find this particular depiction in this tarot deck, there's a small cup that is kind of behind bars. So the way that Chrisanne has designed this particular card makes suggestion that there is a disconnect from the cups, which is of course the heart. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Mm. Mm-hmm. Molly: So there are some depictions of her that would suggest a coldness. But in my journey through learning that I shouldn't be so conflict avoidant and sometimes conflict or conversation or just being honest about how you're feeling is really the best way to be, more and more I've developed this love for her. And on the days when I am feeling nervous or worried. Who do I call upon? I call upon the queen of swords and I'm like, okay, what, what, what, would the queen of swords say right now in this situation? Like what would she do? Because I know that she would not take this bullshit and she would not take, you know, like this, she would not take a small stance. She would step into her power. I, so I love her. I do get a slight intimidation from her, so I think she might be... She would be a partner in a kind long-term partnership or a marriage that would call me out on my bullshit. And I don't know if I'm ready for that. But I hear you. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Mm-hmm. I keep getting this image. I feel I I get these images sometimes like I have to say it right now before I forget it. It's like she's sitting there, the Queen of Swords, and she's holding her sword out, right? And it's like you're only allowed to get to her if as you pass through this sword, your people pleasing skills die. And it's like and then once you let that part of you go, it's like then you have an audience with her, then you have an audience with yourself too, and you're on an equal playing field. Molly: mmmm ⁓ my God, I love that image. The image that I'm getting is from Lord of the Rings. It's from the fellowship with Lerts and when Aragorn stabs Lerts and he just kind of looks at him and then pulls the sword in, there's kind of ⁓ like pulling yourself towards that energy. But I love the idea that each inch of the sword, ⁓ that got sexual really quickly there. ⁓ Each inch of the sword that you're pulling towards yourself is you dissolving that need to people please or you dissolving those stories about yourself that because sometimes the the stuff that the queen of swords confronts you about is not about the external people pleasing sometimes it's about your own stories and your own own bullshit that you you know means that you can't see the truth of who you are and so you know like mmm Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Hundred percent. Or you don't want to. Molly: Yeah, all that kind of, you know, all those like, not good enough, it's not this. And I say this with very much a vulnerability of like, I'm still there. Like I'm not fixed, you know, right? Like I would be an absolute liar if I was like, I'm so there. Of course I get caught up in my own stuff and my own stories. And so the idea of that practice being the sharp edge of having to dissolve those slowly and surely. And then as you do, get Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Yep, yep, yep. Molly: closer and closer to this regality and this beauty of the Queen of Swords. ⁓ my goodness, what a gorgeous image. So that leaves us then with the Nine of Pentacles and the King of Wands. You have to fuck one and you have to push the other off the cliff. What do you think? ⁓ Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Mm-hmm. ⁓ I I know who I'd push off a cliff right away too. It's it's it's so funny because it's not that I hate on this card, but it's one of those cards that I'm like I I can't be bothered sometimes, and that's gonna be the King of Wands. Molly: Ooh, okay, do tell. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Yeah, I hate 'cause he comes up, right? He has this beautiful energy, it's charismatic, it's fiery, it's like, yes, but it's also very ego. And ego, let me say, let me be the first to say this. You need your ego. Ego's not a bad thing. I really hate the signs of like, leave your ego at the door. I'm like, bitch, that's part of you. If you take away your ego, you you're you're not there anymore. So it's like this integral part of you. But when he comes up, I just I just see him I see him as one of those people that has redesigned himself that's like I am your twin flame. Let me teach you about your sexuality. Let me heal you through kundalini. Way I I just feel like that, like that is that dude. He's not always right, but like when I first see him, part of his core is just like so into himself that I'm just like, bruh, you're go you're going over the cliff. You can you can you can have a cool down before as you're as you're flying through the air, you're gonna cool down a little bit. So when you hit the ground, it's gonna be less annoying for the person that finds you down there. Molly: Thank I couldn't agree more because I've got a lot to say about the Nine of Pentacles and so I have to be very logical and very strategic with my choices so King of Wands does have to go off. I do think there's something really interesting and I'm going to name it across the episodes that I've done is that there are very often moments where I find that some of the kings, ⁓ specifically the King of Wands and the King of Cups Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Yeah. Molly: their shadow sides feel very full of themselves. And so interesting, one of the episodes that I have recorded with my dear friend Megan, she got the king of cups. if I can, I mean, if I can find the image in the first couple of, there he is. ⁓ my God, how cool, just there. Yeah, like he's like, yeah, right? Like, and she look, she's not a tarot reader. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: He's sitting there like this. I have that duck. Molly: And so she just went off vibes and she was like, he seems like one of those kind of like spiritual bullshit, like people and you kind of named the exact same ish vibe from the King of Wands. I think there's something that I find with the Emperor and the Kings where my own projection of my relationship with kind of dominant masculine energy gets proper icked out and I'm like, no, too much off the cliff. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Mm-hmm. Molly: And yeah, think, yeah, this guy's got that vibe too. So, bye. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: A hundred percent. Especially in that deck. Especially in that deck, like the Kings give off a l I mean, I love that deck, right? I use it, but the Kings give off a very like I'm feeling myself vibe. Like all like all of them I remember. I mean King of Swords no King of Swords like sitting there like right? I don't remember. But ⁓ yeah, yeah, a hundred percent. He's going off the cliff. Bye. Molly: Bye. Yeah, and I said this in another episode like the the deck ⁓ Art is absolutely stunning, but there is something quite ⁓ Yeah, it's my projection of how I interpret the art But I also agree with you that there is a bit of fullness there Specifically with the Emperor and the Emperor does look like one of my exes. So I absolutely just can't look her like I'm like Yeah, yeah Bre Lee The Story Tarot: He's a chess piece holding onto her, right, in this deck? Molly: But like, if I found, I've done it before, I've pulled the card and I pulled a photo of my ex, I'm like, this is the same person. I don't want it. And when I first started reading Tarot, I used this deck. Like, this is my OG ⁓ deck. it's absolutely stunning. When I first started collecting more decks, I was like, ⁓ I actually quite like the emperor in this deck, you know? I thought I just hated the emperor because he looked like my ex. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Like, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Mm-hmm. It's a great entry deck. Molly: But yeah. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: It's funny going going back to the King of ⁓ the King of ⁓ Cups and the King of Wands, it's really interesting too because maybe it's because I've been in the yoga space for so long that as soon as I get any inkling of that, I'm like, Ugh Ugh. But the with the King of Wands, he's like, like I said, like the twin flame, like let me awaken your kundalini. And the King of Cups is more like non attachment. Let's just go with the flow, like in his in his on integrated form, right? Molly: Mmmmm Bre Lee The Story Tarot: So it's like it can be the same yoga type person, but you know what I mean? There's there's different types ⁓ different presentations of how that energy shows up within the healing space, wellness space, yoga space. Molly: Mmm, yep. One of them feels very intensely, anxiously attached, which is the king of ones, that kind of like intensity. then one of them, until he's not, and then one of them feels like kind of further away. ⁓ Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Until he's not. Wishy washy. Do we have dinner plants tonight? I don't know. I don't know how I'm gonna feel. ⁓ that's happened to my heart wisdom. Push ⁓ both off the cliff, but we pull an extra card, send them together. Molly: Hmm. Yeah, let's just throw them all. I can't throw the King of Pentacles off the cliff though, because I do love them. You can stay. You can stay. Hmm. So that leaves us fucking the Nine of Pentacles. How does that feel? Bre Lee The Story Tarot: No no no no no no no no let's not get hasty. No no he's staying. Indeed. Luxurious because it's this luxury. We're here. We're receiving. We're like everything is here. Why not enjoy it? Like Nine of Pentacles is one of those cards that comes up and I get the sensation of like I get to ⁓ into my chair. There's a sigh, there's this moment of being in your garden, seeing little bees buzzing around. If you're a little hungry, you grab that fruit and you're just like, Yeah, I get to enjoy. It's like an ease, which is Molly: No. I really love her presence. ⁓ Her presence in the present of like specifically the decks that stick very closely to the Rider Waite Smith where it's you know the figure that is next to the vineyard next to the grapes and also has a glass of wine to essentially say I've put in all this fucking hard work planting the seeds Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Very nice. Molly: growing the grapes, I'm gonna have a fucking glass of wine. And you're like, yes, as you so deserve, like, why do we hold off on enjoying the things that we enjoy, on enjoying the things that we put so much work and effort into for next season or the season after or when I am, dot, dot, dot, fill in blank, to enjoy your life. know, like, that for me, hmm. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Mm. Hundred percent. It's like saving it's like saving an outfit or like a perfume or like a a food. You know what I mean? You're like, ⁓ I don't want to eat it just yet, I don't want to wear it just yet because it needs to be a special time. No, this is a special time. Like nine of pentacles, this is a special time. Molly: This is the second planet. Yeah, I so, and I feel that on a really deep level of like, ⁓ I mean, I always get vulnerable on this podcast, so welcome to my vulnerability. Like, I don't have, I have a developing relationship with my body and it's developing to be more and more positive each day, but there was absolutely a time that I would save a picture of like a nice dress or a nice bikini or a nice this, and I'd be like, I will wear that or I'll get this tattoo when I am thin. And I'm like, and... ⁓ it just blows my mind now because I'm like, no, wear the bikini, get the tattoo, eat the food, enjoy your life now, please. we're off. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: It it's mind blowing when you look back on that man I I also had a mentality like that for many, many years. I talk about that in a couple of my story series. ⁓ but it it's fascinating and then you can identify the interesting thing is you can identify it in other people really quickly and then you're like, ⁓ you can see that weight that they carry. Which is like but it's their own weight to carry too. Molly: Hmm. Hmm. And that's why I love the Nine of Pentacles. Like, if I'm reading for somebody and I pull the Nine of Pentacles, and, you know, we normally end up having a discussion of, why don't you feel like you can receive is generally kind of the blockage of the Nine of Pentacles. And so we're going to have a great night with the Nine of Pentacles. It's all about receiving. It's all about the present. She's in the Pentacles, so she's earthy. She's in body. What a good night. Like wine, candles. I think it's going to be great. I'm looking forward. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Also, what are Seagulls? Seagulls started calling right when you were talking about you're like, I'm gonna be vulnerable and then like the second later, Seagull started calling. Did you hear that? Molly: I live on the top floor of a flat where seagulls tend to nest. So I hear them all the time. So maybe there are baby seagulls that are sat on my roof right now having a little call. Why? ⁓ I'm wondering. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: That's what I'm saying. Like I I the seagull is not one that I'm ⁓ that that I look up often. I I look up other creatures like spiders and owls, whatever. But seagulls, I'm like for something I'm like, ⁓ girl, some some with the seagull's coming up right now. Molly: on the wall. I'm all over the seagulls. I have to pause now, everybody, and wait for a new podcast series on my relationship with seagulls. I'll have to go away and have a look. I mean, I think I'm just so accustomed to them, but they do. I wake up in the morning and I hear this like little pitter-patter of feet, and I know that they're on my roof sometimes. And I can actually hear what mood they're in, because I can hear if they're having an argument or not. But yeah, there are some babies up there having a little sit. But yes, I will go and have a look. But yeah, so I feel, I mean, it was an instantaneous choice. I feel like we're pretty solid. I've got two left. We did. Yeah, 100%. Is it common? Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Shit, now I wanna know what Siegels is. We mentioned all three. We imagine all three. Is that common? Molly: I would say 50-50. There are quite a few episodes where there are like one or two that I would switch around. I think there's only been two episodes so far that I've pre-recorded where we have a completely different take on it. There's been one or two episodes where I've started being like, no, I disagree. And then I've managed to like be convinced by a very compelling and beautiful story. But yeah, we agree, which is cool. I've got two last questions for you. Out of the entire tarot deck, who is the biggest red flag and who is the sexiest card? Bre Lee The Story Tarot: I mean, this is like the biggest I I low key feel like this should be the biggest red flag for everyone, but seven of swords. Seven of swords is just always up to no good. He's there, he's creeping around, he's like I mean I'm hearing ⁓ the TLC. I don't want no scrub. Scrub is a guy that can't get no love from me. Hanging on the passenger set and and ⁓ yeah, yeah, yeah. But that's that's it that's the dude where he's just like he's a trickster and I don't like him. And every time he comes up I'm like Molly: Roooom you I'm not sure. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: You're not pulling the wool over my eyes, buddy. Like what's going on here? What's going on here? Molly: You are the second person to bring in the song TLC No Scrubs. I'm gonna need to go back through the recording and see if it is the same card that that song was related to. I know which episode I need to go and look at. I'm gonna go find it later because that is hilarious. But I do hate the Seven of Swords. ⁓ I hate it in a multitude of ways. No, I love all tarot cards. They all teach us something, she says with like three gritted teeth. I hate it on a multitude of levels. The first reason I hate it is because I always found it really difficult to read before I started using kind of more psychological terms because like the Seven of Swords come up and, you know, like a guidebook says deception, backstab, betrayal. I'm like, how many bitches up here are betraying people all the time? Like, I can't read this. And then when I kind of leaned more into that kind of archetypal depth psychological lens and realised, you know, swords is about the mind, about logic. So the Seven of Swords therefore will be about how the mind deceives us, which makes more sense is something that is certainly more common, but I still hate it nonetheless because I hate how my mind deceives me and how it pulls the wool over my eyes, makes me see things about myself that are not true. ⁓ I was talking about the way in which our brain is so clever. ⁓ because obviously it's looking for patterns, right? And that's what keeps us set. That's what means that I don't put my hand in a flame or I look before I cross the road because my brain notices the pattern. But when I have a story about myself, then the brain also is like looking for evidence. So I'll give you a very quick example. I'm a salsa dancer and I remember being on the side of a dance floor. God, the seagulls are really going for it now. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Mm-hmm. Mm. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Molly: that I standing on the edge of the dance floor and someone came to our... Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Same body connection. Talked about your body before, now you're embodying the dance, so keep going. ⁓ Molly: ⁓ yes, so someone came to my friend next to me, asked her to dance and she said, ⁓ no, no, I'm taking a break. And then he turned to the person next to her and said, do you want to dance? And she said, ⁓ no, no, no, I'm just grabbing some water. And then he kind of looked at me and walked past me and walked away. My brain, it was like, ⁓ rejection alert, rejection alert, you're horrible and everyone hates you, is what my brain was doing. And then I kind of turned to my friend and I was a bit like, ⁓ that was a bit stingy. Like that person didn't ask me to dance. Like clearly I'm a terrible, awful, ugly human being, which is what my brain's telling me. And she was like, ⁓ no, like this person just doesn't dance with people that they don't know. And they've never met you before. And they know me from a previous like dance thing. And I was like, ⁓ I had whipped up this story in my head for no apparent reason. And that for me is the seven of swords. So. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Mm-hmm. Molly: Big red flag, get out of here. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Hundred percent. And something I really like talking about too is like when we're talking about swords, when we're talking about thoughts, when we're talking about truths, right? If you think about what a sword is, it's a T. Capital T truths. And so this dude that's holding he he doesn't even know it's true anymore 'cause he's holding so many T's. Molly: Mmm, ⁓ my god, yes. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Yes. So we think about the truth that you can hold, the truth that you can't hold, la la la la la la. Molly: I love that take. I am going to magpie the shit out of that. Take that, thank you. I will of course acknowledge you whenever I pass that piece of wonderful wisdom on. ⁓ Bre Lee The Story Tarot: When it's on the podcast. Molly: Yeah, everyone make sure you go and if you use that lovely piece of wisdom tag Bri in it. But yes, I feel very solidified in the decisions, locked those in and ⁓ you've spoken about your red flag, sexiest card in the deck. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Yes. No, sexiest card in the deck. That was the second one, right? ⁓ okay. Sexiest card in the deck. This is about to be controversial. Is the devil. Hundred percent he's the sexiest card in the deck. Why is he the sexiest card in the deck? Because he is the card of desire. People like hate on the devil all the time and like, yeah, I get it. You're not gonna be like best friends trusting the devil. That's just that's that's on you if you do that right. But he is there to help you explore your desires and your pleasures as well. Molly: Yeah. Ooh. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: And so when people are immediately like, ⁓ my god, the devil, it's like that to me is like, whoa, what what are you afraid of here? Because he has no power over you. You're the one that gives your power to him, right? ⁓ and I I put I did like a a carousel a while ago and I did the the vampire diaries, which I love that show. And ⁓ I paired I paired Damon with the devil, right? Obviously. Molly: obviously. this is so wild. okay when lucy's episode comes out i'm gonna tag you in it and because that episode is called and this isn't going to be a spoiler ⁓ this episode is called the devil is the sexiest and that is the problem ⁓ because lucy also said lucy actually said that the the devil is both the sexiest card and the biggest red flag in one Bre Lee The Story Tarot: ⁓ wild. Molly: and I then referred to Damon Salvatore. I was like, yeah, it reminds me of Damon Salvatore because, like, the sexiest man, but also a huge red flag. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: All ever wanted, all ever needed is you Yeah, a hundred percent. And that and that's the thing. It the thing of why he's not a red flag is because he prevents he presents himself exactly as he is. And if you don't see that, those are your eyeballs is problem. Like you know what I mean? Like that's that that's you. It's it's like, you know what I mean? Like you you invite a tiger into your home and then you get pissed that he mauls you. It's like, well, he's a tiger. Molly: Mmm. I love that take and I also love the devil in this deck. He's obviously not going to show up for me as I'm searching for him. You know which day. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: Let me paint the picture. He's blue, he's in the smoke and he's like he's like shirt off and he's like Molly: I think this, your depiction of this could be better than at the actual wall. Bre Lee The Story Tarot: You can you can hold it up and then I'll I'll I'll ⁓ act. I'll I'll still still act, still st is that a thing? Still acting. Foot photography acting.
