- 1:27to 70 per 80, the 7080 .it section that deepens
- 1:32the topics discussed on the portal. I'm with
- 1:35journalist Enzo Mauri, who introduces today's
- 1:38topic. Good morning, today I'm talking about
- 1:40a rare coin, an authentic delight for numismatics
- 1:45enthusiasts. The AM Lire, AM was for Allied Military
- 1:48Currency, landed in Italy in 1943, after about
- 1:52a month since the arrival of the Allied troops
- 1:54in Sicily in July of that year. was preceded
- 1:58by US dollars with a yellow seal in order to
- 2:01declare it out of stock in case a large amount
- 2:04was finished in the hands of the enemy. The first
- 2:06emission of the AM Lire, called series, in 1943,
- 2:10was composed of bills of the value of 1, 2, 5,
- 2:1310, 50, 100, 500 thousand Lire for a counter
- 2:16value of 15 billion. The cuts were two rectangular,
- 2:20150 by 66 millimeters, like that of the dollars,
- 2:23relative to the highest value banknotes. The
- 2:26smaller pieces had the size of 78 x 66 mm, equal
- 2:31to half. I don't want to say that it was the
- 2:34real way in which the Americans won the occupation
- 2:38of Italy, but knowing the Italians, I can be
- 2:41sure that surely someone was made to buy from
- 2:45these money, and the same American embassy in
- 2:48Rome was bought with these Lire. The exchange
- 2:51rate of the Lire AM was equal to 100 Lire for
- 2:541 dollar and 4 chai. for a sterling, when previously
- 2:57it corresponded to 19 lire for the American division
- 2:59and 90 for the English one. The unique aspect
- 3:02of the incident was that the enemy, in the German
- 3:04propaganda, spread a series of flyers with facsimile
- 3:09prints of the banknotes on which were reported
- 3:11denigrating phrases in Italian. The Americans,
- 3:14concerned that the first series of M -Lire was
- 3:16easily falsifiable, printed a second so -called
- 3:19series 1943A, spread at the beginning of 1943.
- 3:24In 1994, this new series did not include the
- 3:26banknotes of 1 and 2 lire due to the poor purchasing
- 3:29power. The total value was 155 billion, superior
- 3:33to the actual availability of the Bank of Italy.
- 3:42I mean, some would have had to be debited or
- 3:45at least repaid in liras. The liras would have
- 3:49been paid in liras from the Bank of Italy, but
- 3:51without any debt remittances. But some would
- 3:55have had to be repaid by the Federal Reserve
- 3:57through dollars. Finally, at the end of the war,
- 4:02in 1946, the Bank of Italy had the authorization
- 4:05to print banknotes in our country. The legal
- 4:08course ceased on June 30, 1950, with prescriptions
- 4:12on December 31, 1951. Mr. Angelo, it's not a
- 4:16marginal issue for a few pharacists, but it's
- 4:20about the origins, the original sin of our republic
- 4:25is this. The Ministry of the Treasury issued
- 4:27good orders regarding the annulled and sent to
- 4:32the slaughterhouse. To this day, very rare AMLs
- 4:35vary from a value of 800 euros for large cuts
- 4:38of the first monolingual series to 8 euros for
- 4:41smaller ones. Thank you Denzo Mauri for the modern
- 4:44theme. See you on the next episode of 70 per
- 4:4780. Every day the world gets a little weirder,
