Latest / Matt and Alex / Dyso’s Trying His Best
Transcript
- 0:02S1: A listener production.
- 0:04S2: Two cuddly boys overloading the bromance. Kilometre. It's Matt and.
- 0:10S3: Alex all day. Breakfast. Oh, geed up Alex Dyson. That's
- 0:14S3: how I feel. Absolutely Geed up, bruv. Why are you
- 0:18S3: getting geed up? Well, tonight, uh, I'm getting to see
- 0:21S3: one of my favorite bands in all of the world
- 0:24S3: play in one of my favorite cities in all of
- 0:26S3: the world, in a venue that is about to close down,
- 0:30S3: which is very sad. Oh, Ball Park Music is putting
- 0:34S3: on their, uh, a show to say goodbye to the zoo,
- 0:38S3: one of Brisbane's most famous venues that has been around for. Oh, God.
- 0:44S3: I don't know how long the zoo's been around, but
- 0:46S3: Ball Park Music played their first show there. Um, I
- 0:49S3: think we're talking about, like the zoo has been around
- 0:53S3: for sort of in the 30 years marks. Um, and
- 0:56S3: they're closing down on the 8th of July. The Ball
- 0:58S3: park music wanted to say goodbye. And me and Belinda
- 1:01S3: are hitting the town. Brother can't wait.
- 1:03S4: Oh, that's gonna be so nice. Like, I reckon it's
- 1:05S4: gonna be pretty emotional. You know, the ball park crew
- 1:08S4: are able to to tug on those heart strings when necessary,
- 1:11S4: as well as rocking the house, and it's just a
- 1:14S4: bit of bad news around the Australian music industry, whether
- 1:16S4: it's festivals, counselling or like venues shutting down. It's some
- 1:20S4: pretty tough times out there, man.
- 1:22S3: Yeah. Well look, they've they've, uh, said the cost of
- 1:24S3: supplying alcohol is rising. Bar sales are going down, likely
- 1:27S3: due to a mix of lifestyle changes and cost of
- 1:29S3: living stress. Um, that's the hard truth of running the
- 1:32S3: zoo at a loss for over three years. So they've
- 1:36S3: tried hard. I mean, I've seen interviews with the Queensland
- 1:39S3: Premier saying, look, there's I mean, there's not much we
- 1:41S3: could have done in this situation. Um, but, you know,
- 1:44S3: how do we save live music? How do we save
- 1:46S3: the Australian music industry? Bro?
- 1:48S4: Um, I've got an idea. Okay, okay. What? We get
- 1:52S4: Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson to make a film, but
- 1:57S4: instead of a film, make it a documentary and call
- 2:00S4: it instead of. We bought a zoo, we bought the zoo.
- 2:03S4: And then the two of them buy the zoo in Brisbane.
- 2:06S4: Matt Damon hands out an Australia a lot now.
- 2:08S3: Yes, he's just down the road in Byron. I'm pretty
- 2:10S3: sure he's got a place near Ballina though. He was
- 2:12S3: seen at Ballina Kmart a couple of years ago.
- 2:15S4: You saw Matt.
- 2:16S3: Damon? Someone saw him at Ballina Kmart. That's the truth.
- 2:20S3: He's gone to the Ekka a couple of times. I mean,
- 2:22S3: this is his second home. Save us Matt, save us.
- 2:25S4: Matt. We bought the zoo. Well, make it happen. It'll
- 2:28S4: be like escape to the chateau, but with, um, Damon
- 2:31S4: and Johansson. Well, Johansson's been in the news a bit.
- 2:33S3: Actually, I saw that about the OpenAI thing. About her voice.
- 2:37S3: We have a chat. We can talk about that a
- 2:39S3: little bit later on, but we'll also be talking about, uh,
- 2:42S3: some other big players in the tech industry, especially the
- 2:46S3: shopping industry, which has been raising a few eyebrows around
- 2:50S3: the place. We're going to dive right into Matt and
- 2:52S3: Alex all day. Breakfast. I hope you're having a good one.
- 2:54S5: Everyone ready? Let's get this show on the road.
- 2:56S6: Let's go. Here we go, here we go, here we go.
- 3:00S4: Yeah, we bought a zoo. More like we decided to sue. Um.
- 3:05S4: Which is what.
- 3:07S3: Scarlett Johansson's doing. Is that what you're saying?
- 3:09S4: For Scarlett Johansson, who's spoken out after OpenAI? Who do ChatGPT, uh,
- 3:16S4: used a voice which is eerily similar to her own
- 3:19S4: voice for their new product, in which the AI now,
- 3:22S4: you know, have a have a have vocal cords by
- 3:25S4: the sounds of things.
- 3:26S3: Well, here's the thing that I'm annoyed about the whole
- 3:28S3: OpenAI choosing, like their assistant to be called Sky, because
- 3:32S3: Sky is, again a name. And we've seen this pop
- 3:34S3: up with Alexa, people. Alexa's around the world had to
- 3:38S3: band together and say, stop calling your assistant our names
- 3:43S3: so that when I'm at home and my kid says, hey, well,
- 3:47S3: I mean, probably would say, hey mum, but may say,
- 3:49S3: hey Alexa, Sofia calls me and Belinda by our names
- 3:53S3: every now and then. You know, suddenly you've got the
- 3:56S3: the AI assistant on the line, right? So it's it's
- 3:59S3: I'm I'm behind Scarlett on this one.
- 4:02S4: Yeah, well, she said she was asked like she was
- 4:04S4: in a movie called her in which she is one
- 4:09S4: of these sort of chat bots. She falls in love
- 4:11S4: with Joaquin Phoenix's character. There's probably why the crew from
- 4:14S4: OpenAI wanted to chat to her, but she said for
- 4:16S4: personal reasons, she declined. Suddenly it comes out sounds eerily similar.
- 4:22S4: And when he announced it, Sam Altman, who's the CEO
- 4:24S4: of OpenAI, um, when he just said her, as in, like,
- 4:29S4: here's our new voice, here's her. And so she is, um,
- 4:34S4: a little bit miffed.
- 4:35S3: Um, I mean, this is this is tough because someone
- 4:38S3: like Scarlett, I believe, has the, uh, you know, power
- 4:41S3: to fight if she believes she's been wronged, she's got
- 4:43S3: the power to fight. Now, the question is, what happens
- 4:46S3: if you, uh, don't have multiple, multiple millions of dollars
- 4:51S3: and a huge international fan base? Uh, and you do
- 4:55S3: feel like you're getting, um, you know, wronged by a huge,
- 5:00S3: massive international company. Um, Lauren is on the phone. Hello? Lauren.
- 5:05S3: How are you? I'm good, thank you.
- 5:06S7: How are you?
- 5:07S3: Good. Thank you. Now, tell us, Lauren, what happened recently
- 5:10S3: when you went online or was did someone notify you
- 5:12S3: of a situation that really kind of felt like everything was,
- 5:17S3: I mean, not crashing down. I don't want to overdramatize it, but,
- 5:20S3: you know, really felt like there was, uh, something that
- 5:22S3: was was not happening that you were happy about.
- 5:25S7: Yeah. So I actually found it myself. Um, I happened
- 5:29S7: to be on Pinterest. This was yesterday morning. Went onto
- 5:32S7: Pinterest and saw my own artwork, my own greeting card
- 5:35S7: design on Pinterest, but mocked up with this kind of
- 5:39S7: bright red envelope that I knew wasn't, you know, wasn't mine.
- 5:42S7: And I initially thought maybe a company was selling envelopes
- 5:45S7: and had just used my greeting cards that they'd found to,
- 5:48S7: you know, pair it with their envelope. But then I
- 5:50S7: noticed the actual pin was from Tamu, which is a
- 5:54S7: huge company. Um, and I clicked through to their website
- 5:59S7: and saw that they were using my greeting card artwork.
- 6:02S7: They were printing them and actually selling it as cards themselves. Um,
- 6:06S7: and then when I clicked through, there was over 800
- 6:09S7: different cards, and I noticed a lot of other artists
- 6:11S7: that I'm familiar with. Their designs were on there too,
- 6:13S7: so instantly realized that they were just taking the artworks
- 6:16S7: from wherever they'd found them online. And yeah, just printing
- 6:20S7: them themselves and selling them.
- 6:21S4: So doing the old copy paste control C, control V
- 6:25S4: on their own design and then selling them. And because
- 6:28S4: they're quite a big company, are they like undercutting you
- 6:30S4: on price and everything as well? Lauren, the.
- 6:32S7: Ironic thing this was showing up in British pounds, um,
- 6:35S7: but it is pretty much the same price as what
- 6:38S7: I'm selling them for, which is the surprising part to me. Mhm.
- 6:41S3: And okay, so was there any indication that they'd sold
- 6:44S3: many of them. Yeah.
- 6:46S7: So it actually says that this particular seller um has
- 6:49S7: sold 144 items. And my particular listing has gotten almost
- 6:53S7: sold out. Sign flashing on top of it.
- 6:55S3: Right. So there so even just 144 and you've only
- 6:59S3: seen this like in a day. So I mean that's
- 7:02S3: I don't know how much you're charging per car, but
- 7:04S3: we could we can assume this is in the thousands
- 7:06S3: of dollars just, just in a day that you've seen it. Exactly.
- 7:09S7: And yeah, it's already gone up. Um, the number sold
- 7:12S7: since I saw this yesterday, so.
- 7:13S3: Oh, okay. And look, here's the other thing. You're not
- 7:15S3: the only person who's had this sort of experience happen.
- 7:18S7: No, not at all. I actually reached out to some
- 7:21S7: of the other artists whose work I recognized on that, um, page,
- 7:24S7: and out of the few I contacted, a few of
- 7:27S7: them came straight back to me and said this had
- 7:28S7: happened to them multiple times before on Teemu, and that
- 7:31S7: they hadn't really got anywhere when they had pursued anything
- 7:34S7: to try and get it removed.
- 7:36S4: That's crazy. Well, Scarlett Johansson with her voice, I mean,
- 7:38S4: she's got quite a bit of cash. She can throw
- 7:40S4: a few lawyers at this. What for? People like yourself.
- 7:44S4: You know, I'm not sure if you're your kids have
- 7:47S4: passed law in daycare yet, but other than that, how
- 7:52S4: can you afford to try and get something happening?
- 7:55S7: I honestly. So I've been sitting with this for a
- 7:57S7: day now, and I've had a few people reach out
- 7:59S7: when I did share it and say contact IP Australia,
- 8:02S7: you know, go to the Copyright Council, who are completely
- 8:04S7: not for profit and, you know, don't can't offer legal advice.
- 8:08S7: And I've made a few phone calls to those organisations
- 8:11S7: and they've pretty much all said to me it's a
- 8:13S7: case of seeking my own legal representation if I want
- 8:16S7: to take it further. Um, and this is obviously one
- 8:19S7: design I've found and who knows how many more are
- 8:22S7: being sold, you know? And that in itself would take
- 8:25S7: so much time to sit there and try and figure
- 8:27S7: out how many are out there. Um, but yeah, I mean, I'm,
- 8:31S7: I'm a small business. I don't have the cash, as
- 8:34S7: you said, to, to be throwing at lawyers and things
- 8:36S7: to try and pursue legal action. So I'm not really
- 8:40S7: sure at this stage what next steps are. Okay.
- 8:42S3: So just just so anyone everyone's across the team at
- 8:45S3: the moment is a Chinese e-commerce e-commerce company. It's become
- 8:49S3: one of the biggest retail apps in America and the world.
- 8:53S3: You've probably seen it, uh, pop up on, uh, any
- 8:57S3: sort of googling that you do when you're looking for
- 8:59S3: basically any product, there's always a. Really cheap version on there.
- 9:03S3: Is it the is it the fault of a company,
- 9:05S3: or is it the fault of an individual seller that
- 9:07S3: exists within the company the same way that Amazon kind
- 9:10S3: of just allows a platform for sellers?
- 9:14S7: Exactly. And I think that's a kind of gray area
- 9:17S7: that I'm trying to work out myself, because this is
- 9:19S7: a seller who's obviously producing this product and selling it.
- 9:22S7: But then we are seeing this happen so much over
- 9:26S7: and over again across all different categories, like jewelry and
- 9:28S7: tote bags and blankets, anything you can think of as
- 9:31S7: artwork being stolen from, you know, independent artists and being
- 9:35S7: sold on that platform. So I feel like I yeah,
- 9:39S7: I feel like they have to hold some responsibility for that.
- 9:42S3: Mhm. Well, look, I mean it's up to you I
- 9:44S3: guess if you're shopping, uh you're listening, if you're shopping
- 9:47S3: what to do and uh who to choose. But it's
- 9:50S3: certainly interesting to hear from the people whose, uh, artwork
- 9:53S3: and products are appearing without their consent online. So thank
- 9:57S3: you very much, Lauren. I hope I hope this, you know,
- 9:59S3: I hope you are and, you know, able to rally
- 10:01S3: enough troops to kind of make sure that your stuff
- 10:04S3: isn't getting, um, plagiarized out there. Uh, anyone who wants
- 10:07S3: to show some support, check out at laurencin's. That's c
- 10:11S3: s o n s at Lauren underscore sisson's underscore studio. And, uh,
- 10:17S3: you know, if you if you are looking for a
- 10:19S3: card for someone, then maybe buy one of Lauren's cards
- 10:21S3: straight from the artist themselves, straight.
- 10:24S4: From the natural hot springs source. Uh, that where you
- 10:27S4: create it? Lauren. That's perfect.
- 10:29S7: Thank you so much for having me.
- 10:31S3: Thanks, Lauren. We'll catch you next time.
- 10:32S7: Thank you guys.
- 10:36UU: Hut hut hut hut! Take take this.
- 10:39S4: Yeah. That's right. It is the time where we allow
- 10:41S4: you to hot take it away to give the world
- 10:44S4: what it needs in the form of some spicy chorizo opinions.
- 10:49S3: Yeah. That's right. Last week, I, uh, ruffled a few
- 10:51S3: feathers when I suggested that, uh, no more roads should
- 10:54S3: be built at all. Uh, every road should have a
- 10:56S3: bus lane. And, uh, only tradies should be allowed to
- 10:59S3: drive hahahahahahahahaha.
- 11:01S4: Uh. I don't think there are any feathers left in
- 11:06S4: the world at the amount of ruffling that was going
- 11:09S4: on from that particular take, but it is it is
- 11:11S4: a safe space or allow you to, uh, to give
- 11:13S4: us your opinions. And, Matt, there's a couple of food
- 11:16S4: hot takes we might get to. First off, from listeners,
- 11:20S4: Christopher saying the nutritional qualities of banana is not made
- 11:25S4: up for by its texture, textures, just no good.
- 11:28S3: I hate the texture of banana. I'm not a banana
- 11:31S3: fan at all. Cannot stand it. Have never enjoyed it
- 11:33S3: and it's got to do with the mush. I do
- 11:36S3: not like the mush. What's disgusting?
- 11:39S4: You eat other things with mush, I'm sure.
- 11:42S3: Well, yeah, but Nick, Nick has said a similar thing.
- 11:45S3: Avocado is honestly the most overhyped pile of tasteless mush
- 11:48S3: known to man, and I understand that. But I don't
- 11:51S3: eat an avocado just by peeling it and shoving it
- 11:54S3: in my mouth. It's supposed to be a spread, you know,
- 11:57S3: or it's supposed to be the mush. That's what makes
- 12:00S3: it good.
- 12:01S4: You're saying there's a time and a place for mush,
- 12:03S4: and it must be accompanied by some deep mushing? Uh, yes. Sidekicks?
- 12:09S3: Yes, exactly. You need to put the. You need to
- 12:11S3: put the mush on something or in a smoothie. Then
- 12:13S3: I'm all for it. In which case I actually put
- 12:15S3: banana and avocado in my breakfast smoothie.
- 12:17S4: So hang on. So banana on its own. Terrible banana.
- 12:22S4: Less mushy like with milk or making it smoother. That's okay.
- 12:27S4: And solidifying banana is also okay.
- 12:31S3: Um, I don't like banana just as it is. As
- 12:34S3: it stands, I like banana lollies, strangely enough. Um, big
- 12:38S3: fan of the little banana lollies. Very very very nutritionally.
- 12:41S3: Good for you as well.
- 12:42S4: Those little not as much potassium I think in the lollies. Um,
- 12:47S4: Caitlyn reckon hash browns are revolting. I mean that's get off.
- 12:51S3: A Caitlyn.
- 12:52S4: That's a hot take.
- 12:53S3: Caitlyn disgrace. That is a garbage take. That is an
- 12:57S3: absolute bin fire of a take. Well get out of hot.
- 13:00S4: One because, uh, you try and go into the world
- 13:04S4: and say any form of fried potato is no good. Caitlyn.
- 13:08S4: You are. Wow. There's not many people on your side
- 13:11S4: of enemies. Caitlyn yeah, it's pretty good.
- 13:15S3: If the world's toddlers found out about what you're saying,
- 13:20S3: they would go at you.
- 13:22S4: Um, well, let's move outside the world of food now
- 13:25S4: to Alec. Who who's hot take is pram. Parking spots
- 13:29S4: are fair game for everyone.
- 13:31S3: Oh, look, I had this argument with Belinda recently because
- 13:34S3: I was in I was going into the shopping centre and,
- 13:37S3: and I was like, and I'll just park in this
- 13:39S3: pram spot and she's like, you can't park in the
- 13:41S3: pram spot. And I'm like, of course I can. I've
- 13:44S3: got a five year old in the back and she's like, yeah,
- 13:47S3: but you don't have a pram. And I'm like, yeah,
- 13:49S3: but that's I've got a little kid. That is why
- 13:53S3: they're there. It's to get the kid to the to
- 13:55S3: the shop easier, so they don't have to walk through
- 13:58S3: a minefield of cars in a car park. And. And
- 14:01S3: then Sophia starts chiming in, chiming in, saying, you're not
- 14:04S3: allowed to park there, dad. And I'm like, oh for
- 14:05S3: God's sake. Two on one. Forget it. Drove off.
- 14:09S4: So the child talked, talked you out of parking in
- 14:13S4: the child parking spot.
- 14:14S3: Oh, because, you know, suddenly I don't want to be.
- 14:16S3: I don't want to see. Show her that I'm breaking
- 14:18S3: the rules. Oh. So annoying.
- 14:21S4: Well, there you go. And, uh, Zoe and, uh, here's
- 14:23S4: a hot take for you. Theaters are any seated concert
- 14:26S4: event shouldn't let anyone in after the show starts.
- 14:30S3: They're usually. Sometimes you have the option as an artist, actually.
- 14:33S3: So if you can say I will not allow any latecomers.
- 14:36S3: And that's actually totally, uh, that's a totally fine thing
- 14:39S3: to do. Or you say you're allowed to let late
- 14:42S3: comers in. Uh, when I hit this part of the show,
- 14:44S3: so they'll bank them all up, and then as soon
- 14:46S3: as you hit, you know, minute five of the show,
- 14:48S3: then the door opens and all these late comers start walking.
- 14:51S3: In other times, it's all, you know, free for all.
- 14:53S3: And it's an absolute drip.
- 14:54S4: Feeding him into the into the aisles. Yeah.
- 14:57S3: So, um. No, look, I hear you, Zoe, because sometimes
- 14:59S3: it can be a little bit annoying, but, I mean,
- 15:00S3: you know, you got to sometimes it's the bus's fault.
- 15:05S3: And we've also got Rihanna on the phone. Rihanna, what
- 15:07S3: is your hot take?
- 15:10S8: Um, okay, so, uh, I might get a lot of
- 15:13S8: heat for this, but I think that there are too
- 15:16S8: many sports in the Olympics.
- 15:18S4: Oh.
- 15:19S8: Um.
- 15:20S3: Wow. Brave enough to say it. Rihanna. But thank you,
- 15:23S3: thank you.
- 15:24S8: Uh, I think that if you've already got an international
- 15:27S8: stage like soccer or rugby, rugby, then definitely shouldn't be
- 15:31S8: in the Olympics. Uh, um, but the faster, higher, stronger,
- 15:36S8: you know, high jump, 200 meter dash, maybe like hammer
- 15:41S8: throw and just cap it at that.
- 15:44S3: I hear you. Do you know what? No. Here's here's
- 15:47S3: my thing about the Olympics. You shouldn't be doing any
- 15:49S3: sports that require significant amounts of money to be good
- 15:53S3: at them.
- 15:53S8: Well, yeah. And I was talking to my husband about
- 15:57S8: this the other day, and we thought, how about it?
- 16:00S8: Just go Hunger Games style. You just do randomly draw
- 16:04S8: Average Joe and Average Jane out of a hat. They
- 16:08S8: have four years to prepare. Um, and they get to do,
- 16:12S8: you know, ten simple. You know, they run as fast
- 16:15S8: as they can. They swim one lap of a pool,
- 16:18S8: they jump as high as they can. Um, yeah. And
- 16:21S8: then it's just the best country win that way.
- 16:23S3: I am feeling this just the absolute like, uh, you know,
- 16:29S3: anyone that full blown wild card effect. So anyone can
- 16:33S3: be a champion.
- 16:35S8: Then you might have your shot. Matt.
- 16:38S3: I've been dreaming of it for such a long time.
- 16:40S3: Ever since I tried to become a Ghanaian citizen to
- 16:42S3: compete in the Olympics for swimming. Um, no, I hear you.
- 16:46S4: I see we're coming from Roshana. You sort of go
- 16:48S4: back to the original games, you know, where they they
- 16:51S4: weren't doing the sort of skateboarding and BMX side of
- 16:54S4: things or the synchronized swimming back in the day. Do
- 16:57S4: you think we should also revert back to doing it
- 17:00S4: in the nude? Do you think that would lift the ratings?
- 17:05S8: Um, we might not need to go that far. Okay.
- 17:08S8: I think that we have learnt a few things. Um,
- 17:12S8: as time has gone on.
- 17:13S4: There are some things good about the modern games.
- 17:15S3: I'm all for new. I'm all for nude Olympics. I
- 17:18S3: would I would really be into that.
- 17:22S8: It would have to be late night only screening then
- 17:24S8: if they were to televise it.
- 17:27S3: Yeah, I mean pixelated. You wouldn't, you wouldn't want to
- 17:30S3: be the long jumpers though would you. You'd be digging
- 17:33S3: sand out of everywhere for days.
- 17:38S4: Oh, that pit, that would seem plenty of things. Yeah.
- 17:41S4: I'm with you as well, Rashaan. As far as like,
- 17:43S4: I find sports where an expert judge needs to give
- 17:47S4: you a score as, like, pretty difficult as a as
- 17:52S4: a task like the diving. You know, there's always the
- 17:55S4: Russian judge and the Chinese judge and the Australian judge
- 17:57S4: all disagreeing over if that was a good dive or not.
- 18:01S4: I find that really difficult to, to get on board.
- 18:04S3: Well, that's the thing.
- 18:05S8: It's like a technicality, like with all the gymnastics, like,
- 18:08S8: you know, whether a girl smiles enough in her routine,
- 18:11S8: how is that like.
- 18:14S3: You know.
- 18:14S8: It just does. It doesn't make any sense. It's like,
- 18:16S8: did she do a triple backflip and land it? Yeah. Okay, great.
- 18:20S8: That's what, you know. Like it doesn't. It's. Yeah.
- 18:24S3: If we hear.
- 18:25S8: You two metres or if he's jumping ten metres, like
- 18:28S8: there's a difference in it's measurable. Whereas like yeah subjective.
- 18:31S3: Will you have did you ever have any Olympic dreams? Rashauna.
- 18:33S3: Could you almost have made it into the Olympics for anything.
- 18:36S8: Oh no no no no no no not a competitive
- 18:40S8: bone in my body. So yeah, it's rich coming from me,
- 18:43S8: I'm sure.
- 18:43S3: No, look, thank you very much. That's exactly what we need.
- 18:46S3: We need unqualified opinions for this segment. So thank you
- 18:49S3: very much for jumping in.
- 18:51S4: That's what a hot take is all about. Roshana.
- 18:54S3: Um, thanks very much. Hey, we'll let you get back
- 18:55S3: to it. Thanks, guys.
- 18:57UU: Order up. Just how you like it.
- 19:05S9: Perfect.
- 19:15S4: Well, Matt, the Vienna adventure continues here, looking out over
- 19:19S4: a bit of a drizzly Austrian capital at the moment.
- 19:23S4: It was beautiful weather during the week though, and I
- 19:25S4: got to go along to this open air venue and
- 19:28S4: check out some of Australia's finest King Gizzard and the
- 19:32S4: Lizard Wizard. Playing to a packed house in Vienna. It
- 19:38S4: was a killer venue. Killer set. Oh my God, so good.
- 19:42S3: How many people do you reckon were at a King
- 19:44S3: Gizzard and the lizard? Lizard gig in Australia.
- 19:49S4: Would have been about 800.
- 19:50S3: No. Are you kidding me that.
- 19:53S4: People loved.
- 19:54S3: It? Oh my God. And I was.
- 19:55S4: Standing next to this German guy, said goodbye to him.
- 19:59S4: He's like, oh, where are you from? I'm Australia from Melbourne,
- 20:01S4: same as Kim guys. And he's like, oh, it's great.
- 20:02S4: I love Australian bands. I love King Gizzard and the
- 20:04S4: Lizard Wizard, love Tex Perkins, love the Go-Betweens like, how
- 20:09S4: do you say this in this thick German accent? No, look,
- 20:12S4: it was amazing.
- 20:12S3: That's the benefit of King Gizzard, right? When you're saying
- 20:15S3: basically nothing in your lyrics. Everyone can can relate to it.
- 20:21S3: You know what I mean? Everyone worldwide.
- 20:23S4: I that's a very good stuff. I really like rattlesnake, rattlesnake, rattlesnake.
- 20:29S3: Rattlesnake. It's internationally. It's like you can translate to anyone.
- 20:33S3: It's genius. I'm jealous.
- 20:35S4: It is genius. But it's also like it's not the
- 20:38S4: most accessible music you can get. Like one of the songs,
- 20:41S4: it was like you're playing the song. It's about 13
- 20:43S4: minutes long, you know, 15 minutes long could be the
- 20:46S4: one song. It's. It's the what? There's such a great
- 20:49S4: example of what you can do if you just have
- 20:52S4: no rules. You try something interesting and then you put
- 20:55S4: that idea out and move straight on to the next idea.
- 20:58S4: I just love what they've done. And who else can
- 21:01S4: play a two hour set like the set was two hours,
- 21:04S4: they wouldn't have been able to fit in a song
- 21:06S4: from every album. You could play one song from each
- 21:09S4: album and still not even make that time from their
- 21:11S4: 25 releases. How many.
- 21:14S3: How many albums do they have now?
- 21:16S4: 25.
- 21:16S3: How many?
- 21:17S4: 25 albums? 25 albums.
- 21:21S3: That's ridiculous.
- 21:23S4: 2017 they put out five albums that year.
- 21:26S3: That is ridiculous.
- 21:29S4: All right, well, let's move on from the King Gizz
- 21:33S4: in Austria to another performance that is likely to draw
- 21:38S4: a crowd of 800 to 1000 people. And that is
- 21:42S4: Alex Dyson potentially doing five minutes of stand up comedy.
- 21:44S3: Still potentially. Mate, you got offered to do a gig
- 21:47S3: in Austria. You take it, bro. Like it? Like you
- 21:52S3: can only win from here. It's not like you're going
- 21:54S3: to be walking down the street any time and anyone's
- 21:56S3: going to be like, oh bro, I saw you and
- 21:58S3: the Austrian, you know, bar somewhere bombing. You're like, this
- 22:03S3: is total anonymity, dude. You just got to do it.
- 22:07S4: Look, but I respect the crowd, so I do not
- 22:09S4: want to get up unless I have some quality. Unlike you, Matt,
- 22:13S4: I respect the audience. Okay.
- 22:15S3: Fair enough. Not just enough for that sweet Austrian dollar
- 22:19S3: that I'm sure you're going to be collecting from your
- 22:22S3: open mic gig. Exactly.
- 22:23S4: Right. So I want to make sure the material is there.
- 22:26S4: And to do that, um, I am going to plagiarize.
- 22:30S4: I'm going to be like, Teemu, I'm going to steal
- 22:32S4: your jokes. Allegedly put.
- 22:34S3: Them. Allegedly.
- 22:38S4: All right. Allegedly steal your jokes. Um, I'll be inspired
- 22:43S4: by your jokes to see what I can do. Because
- 22:45S4: I'm not. Not a stand up. I need all the
- 22:46S4: help I can get. And so thank you very much
- 22:49S4: for sending the jokes in. Um, Bron re put up
- 22:51S4: a question. Other than just what's the best joke in
- 22:55S4: general as to what? What sort of material do you
- 22:58S4: think would work if I'm doing a stand up set
- 22:59S4: in Austria? So we tried it again and we've got
- 23:02S4: a few gags here. Matt.
- 23:04S3: Yeah, that's right, Joshua has launched us off. Uh, what
- 23:07S3: do you call a grouchy German, a sauerkraut?
- 23:11S10: Is it? Crowd. Is it crowd?
- 23:13S3: A word for a German person?
- 23:15S4: Yeah, I'm just not so sure the offensiveness of it feels.
- 23:19S3: It feels not nice.
- 23:22S4: I think it's what? Like. Yeah. It says its allies.
- 23:25S3: Look, I just googled it. Says it's derogatory. I'm sorry.
- 23:28S3: I didn't realize what that is.
- 23:31S4: I do not want, um, you know, off Strudels being
- 23:36S4: thrown at my face. Oh, my.
- 23:37S3: God, no, people are saying it. Well, okay, someone's saying
- 23:41S3: Kraut is a word that literally means herb or cabbage,
- 23:44S3: and so isn't an offensive word in itself. However, as.
- 23:49S3: You know the word for someone. It is offensive. I genuinely.
- 23:53S3: I'm sorry. I had no idea. I had no idea.
- 23:56S3: Why is your comedy getting me in trouble? Dyson, this
- 23:59S3: is bullshit.
- 24:01S4: Did I, um, m message as well? If all the
- 24:05S4: jokes go to shit, I'd finish the set with. I
- 24:08S4: was trying my best.
- 24:10S3: No, it's supposed to be Australian. My best. It works
- 24:14S3: better if you've got a Scottish accent or Australian. Me?
- 24:17S3: Best maybe. Um. Nick.
- 24:21S10: Australian. My best.
- 24:23S3: Uh, Nick says an Australian man is working in the
- 24:25S3: US and has to go on a long drive with
- 24:26S3: his colleagues. He pulls to the side of the road
- 24:29S3: to have a wee in. One of his colleagues says
- 24:31S3: that's gross. And he replies, oh, Dunker.
- 24:36S4: Okay.
- 24:36S3: What's going on here?
- 24:37S10: I don't know, because.
- 24:39S4: Because he's gone for a week. All right. Yeah. It's
- 24:43S4: got to pull down his pants for that gross domain.
- 24:45S3: Total or big or something like that.
- 24:47S4: Gross. Gross means big. So when I said before, go,
- 24:51S4: go for a gross beer, that's a big beer.
- 24:52S3: Oh yes.
- 24:54S4: He says dankeschön. He says, thank you for mentioning.
- 24:57S3: When the other person going, that's gross. And it's like, yes,
- 25:00S3: thank you. Okay, cool. No, that's yeah, that's not bad,
- 25:03S3: I like that.
- 25:05S4: Um, Jess says, what's the worst thing about Austria? I
- 25:08S4: don't know, but the flag is a big minus. Which is,
- 25:12S4: I guess, the inverse of the Swiss joke with the
- 25:14S4: flag is a big plus. But in Austria it's red, white,
- 25:19S4: red with a big line through the middle, which I
- 25:21S4: guess does look like a minus. It's not as famous
- 25:23S4: as the plus on the Swiss flag. But yeah, you
- 25:26S4: could try that.
- 25:27S3: Well, here's the thing, Alex Dawson. You don't ask people
- 25:29S3: for help and then tell them it's not good enough. Okay?
- 25:31S3: So if you could do it, then do it. Otherwise,
- 25:35S3: I'd be saying thank you and taking all of these
- 25:37S3: jokes to your next gig when I. When is it?
- 25:40S3: Come on. When can we expect it?
- 25:42S4: Oh, look, I might be able to nab five minutes
- 25:45S4: this weekend in Vienna. I'll. I'll check.
- 25:48S3: Stay tuned to Matt and Alex all day. Breakfast next week.
- 25:51S3: Alex Dyson is going to record the whole thing. And
- 25:54S3: are we going to get all five minutes? Yeah, of
- 25:57S3: course you are the set. Of course you are. That
- 26:02S3: is the only way you're going to do it. You're
- 26:03S3: going to put microphones in the crowd, a phone on
- 26:07S3: the on the edge of the stage, and you're going
- 26:09S3: to record the entire entire set, and we're going to
- 26:13S3: hear all five minutes of it here on Matt and
- 26:15S3: Alex all day. Breakfast.
- 26:16S10: All five minutes. Are you kidding me? No.
- 26:19S3: That's what we want. That's what we expect.
- 26:21S11: You're like the Austrian min, Alex.
- 26:27S3: Austria's men.
- 26:31S10: Shout out.
- 26:31S3: To our favorite open mic friend debut.
- 26:37S12: Yeah, it'll be my debut.
- 26:38S10: Oh my God.
- 26:40S4: Uh, maybe I should steal some of Min's germ, come
- 26:43S4: up to the Austrian crowd and go. I know what
- 26:45S4: you like. You're just here for the racism.
- 26:50S3: I'm all right. This is Matt and Alex. All day breakfast.
- 26:53S3: Hope you had a good one today. We've had a
- 26:55S3: bit of fun. We're going to be back here. Same time,

- 27:14S2: something to add to the show? Slide into our DMs.
