- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, good morning, listeners. Thank you for listening to Lament
- 0:03Speaker 1: of Hope podcast. And thank you for listening, watching whichever
- 0:07Speaker 1: platform you're on. If you're such a really good cook,
- 0:11Speaker 1: as you are, how do you and your wife, if
- 0:15Speaker 1: your wife makes you something, is that really overwhelming for her?
- 0:22Speaker 1: Because like, what if it's not as good as you
- 0:24Speaker 1: would make it?
- 0:26Speaker 2: Not in the slightest, because I'm married with a feisty
- 0:32Speaker 2: Italian woman whose ego struggles to fit into this house.
- 0:38Speaker 2: So out of the two... Out of the two, I
- 0:43Speaker 2: shouldn't be the one scared of what I deliver when
- 0:46Speaker 2: I cook. She's, you know, going back to the overconfidence
- 0:50Speaker 2: discussion we just had. She's the epitome of being overconfident.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Do you have, can I just ask, do you have
- 0:58Speaker 1: a funny story about that? Like, did you ever correct
- 1:00Speaker 1: and say, hmm, you know, this might be a good idea?
- 1:02Speaker 1: And then she was, that'd be fun. Because for me...
- 1:05Speaker 1: you know, I am super insecure about cooking with, from
- 1:08Speaker 1: my husband, you know, I want him to like everything.
- 1:10Speaker 1: So I ask him all these questions. So I'm like
- 1:12Speaker 1: the opposite of your, of your wife, because I'm so
- 1:15Speaker 1: insecure about my cooking. But I just want to ask, like,
- 1:19Speaker 1: is there a funny anecdote about that where you were like, Oh,
- 1:21Speaker 1: I guess I won't be giving any more suggestions.
- 1:23Speaker 2: It's not one anecdote as such, but it is, it
- 1:26Speaker 2: is a recurring pattern where, um, My wife, despite her
- 1:33Speaker 2: overinflated ego, she wants to be.
- 1:39Speaker 2: What's the word? She wants support in her decision. For example,
- 1:43Speaker 2: we are, at the moment, I'm living in a temporary
- 1:45Speaker 2: accommodation because we are doing up our house entirely. So
- 1:48Speaker 2: we've got it and we're doing it up entirely. And
- 1:51Speaker 2: my wife is looking after that project. So she has
- 1:53Speaker 2: to make, as you can imagine, lots of decisions. And
- 1:57Speaker 2: she wants to feel like she's doing the right decisions.
- 2:00Speaker 2: So she bounced them off me. But she isn't really
- 2:03Speaker 2: interested in finding out what I think. All that she
- 2:06Speaker 2: wants to hear is, yes, honey, you're doing the right thing.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Just go ahead and do it. Because the minute I
- 2:11Speaker 2: try to tell her, well, you know, this bit, I
- 2:14Speaker 2: would probably do it differently. Then the discussion changes track completely.
- 2:19Speaker 2: And it becomes, how does she have to convince me
- 2:22Speaker 2: that what I'm saying is rubbish? So, you know, after
- 2:27Speaker 2: 20 years of marriage, I've learned how to avoid those pitfalls.
- 2:32Speaker 2: And I try to stay well clear of those types
- 2:36Speaker 2: of discussions.
- 2:38Speaker 1: So what do you do? You just nod?
- 2:42Speaker 2: Most of the times I really nod. I say that jokingly,
- 2:46Speaker 2: but I'm very picky myself. So when it comes to
- 2:49Speaker 2: choosing the right wood burner or the right color for
- 2:52Speaker 2: the walls or the right type of flooring, I'm picking myself.
- 2:56Speaker 2: So the reality is that whenever I've got a strong opinion,
- 2:59Speaker 2: I don't manage to keep it for myself. So we
- 3:03Speaker 2: end up having lots of very lengthy discussions about pretty
- 3:06Speaker 2: much everything.
- 3:08Speaker 1: But you know, that's good that you don't...
