Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey guys, welcome to another episode of Eating While Broke.
- 0:03Speaker 1: I'm your host Coly Witt, and today we have very
- 0:05Speaker 1: special guests Reggie Ball in the building. Awesome and he
- 0:09Speaker 1: hasn't been in the kitchen in a while. But Reggie
- 0:13Speaker 1: Ball is former Georgia Tech quarterback who took his game
- 0:16Speaker 1: all the way to the NFL, signing with the Detroit
- 0:18Speaker 1: Lions as an undrafted free agent in two thousand and seven.
- 0:22Speaker 1: And these days he's building in Atlanta as the COO
- 0:25Speaker 1: of Effect Fitness and you can catch him behind the mics,
- 0:28Speaker 1: co host on The Broken Play with Navi Green, and
- 0:31Speaker 1: appearances on The Lou Young Show.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, that was an amazing intro. Thank you. Oh
- 0:38Speaker 2: yeah he did your own work.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Yes I did. I was schooling myself on everything.
- 0:44Speaker 2: You nice. Nice.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I know we were talking about how you're never in
- 0:48Speaker 1: the kitchen, and I know you thought that you were
- 0:50Speaker 1: going to have me making the dis man.
- 0:52Speaker 3: You're throwing so many curve balls at me. But I
- 0:54Speaker 3: know how to play. So I'm ready. I'm up for
- 0:57Speaker 3: the child.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Are you prepared yoursel?
- 0:59Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, I'm ready to go.
- 1:01Speaker 1: So what are you gonna have me eating today?
- 1:02Speaker 3: So this dish is what my family and I call
- 1:07Speaker 3: Lo Main and we referred to it as the ghetto
- 1:09Speaker 3: Chinese food. Okay, so we got a ramen noodles, ground beef,
- 1:15Speaker 3: a little seasoning with the garlic, salt, pepper, and some
- 1:18Speaker 3: soy sauce, and of course you can't forget your package
- 1:21Speaker 3: sauce out of the.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Ramen noodle packages.
- 1:23Speaker 3: And we also have some parsley and broccoli to kind
- 1:26Speaker 3: of dice things up and get everything nice and fretty.
- 1:42Speaker 1: This will be my first time having this on the shows, so.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Trust me, I'm pretty sure nobody's ever had this before,
- 1:48Speaker 3: not very many.
- 1:49Speaker 1: So you were particular about the type of ramen you use.
- 1:52Speaker 1: So for any one out there that's trying to imitate
- 1:54Speaker 1: this dish, what is the correct ramen to use on this?
- 1:57Speaker 2: I want the Oriental flavor.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Oh it's Oriental. Now it's the same brand.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Yeah, you can get the ramen noodles, but the flavor
- 2:03Speaker 3: and the packages and everything that's key. So look, if
- 2:06Speaker 3: you want the beef, that's cool. If you got ground beef,
- 2:09Speaker 3: all right. If you want the chicken, make sure you
- 2:12Speaker 3: got some chicken breast so you can dice up that chicken.
- 2:14Speaker 2: So everything matches, you feel what I'm saying.
- 2:16Speaker 3: So the oriental or the beef goes with the ground beef,
- 2:18Speaker 3: and the chicken goes with the chicken.
- 2:20Speaker 2: But we broke that's all.
- 2:22Speaker 3: We got, you know what I mean, So we gotta.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Make it happen.
- 2:25Speaker 1: All right, go ahead, get the cooking, all.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Right, guys. So first, what we're gonna do now, turn
- 2:31Speaker 3: this either thing on. You got to turn this off.
- 2:33Speaker 2: What your power? What's your power forces at? Because the
- 2:35Speaker 2: light ain't coming on this side of lights up? It
- 2:39Speaker 2: did light up. I'm blind.
- 2:41Speaker 3: We got them, okay, So first, all right, first and foremost,
- 2:45Speaker 3: wash your hands, all right, Wash your hands and wash
- 2:49Speaker 3: your ass before you get in the kitchen. We don't
- 2:50Speaker 3: like to come in here, understand the ary. That's very important,
- 2:53Speaker 3: So wash your hands. I did that before this camera
- 2:55Speaker 3: started rolling, So we all good. Get your ground beef
- 2:58Speaker 3: rolling all right? Boom, throw that on there. If it's
- 3:01Speaker 3: not siln, that's cool. That means you're cooking shit too fast.
- 3:03Speaker 3: It's slow down anyway, all right, right, be playing with y'all,
- 3:06Speaker 3: telling y'all ain't been in the kitchen, but I know
- 3:08Speaker 3: what's going on a little bit, all right, You out.
- 3:10Speaker 3: It's not the way get your ground beef going. And
- 3:14Speaker 3: we just gonna cook that a little bit. Give me
- 3:16Speaker 3: something right here, Dice it up a little bit. You
- 3:19Speaker 3: know how to get your ground be going. Everybody know
- 3:21Speaker 3: how to cook ground beef, hopefully, hopefully all.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Right, just let that go.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Okay, dice up, cut up your parsley a little bit.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Do I need to demonstrate how to cut up partially for.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Anyone in here?
- 3:34Speaker 3: No, you're good, all right, cool, So I'm just gonna
- 3:36Speaker 3: slice it up because this is not the knife. Not
- 3:38Speaker 3: nice to dice, No damn parsley. But we broke, so
- 3:42Speaker 3: we're gonna make it work.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Shout outs to eighty five souths. We are not in
- 3:46Speaker 1: La in our normal set. So eighty five South has
- 3:49Speaker 1: gone above and beyond two a comedy here, that's what's up.
- 3:53Speaker 3: At least we ain't using no plastic ware, all right.
- 3:55Speaker 3: But even if you do have plastic ware, you can
- 3:58Speaker 3: dice up some parceling and get it going then.
- 4:01Speaker 1: And you gonna use that knife on parsley if you
- 4:04Speaker 1: ultimately have.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Hey, man, you could really rip the leaves apart.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Have you need to do it? You know what I mean?
- 4:08Speaker 3: Just get it done and get the leaves real small,
- 4:10Speaker 3: all right, But yeah, we're gonna take our time.
- 4:13Speaker 2: This dish right here does not take long.
- 4:15Speaker 3: So you got a lot of babies at the house
- 4:18Speaker 3: and y'all hungry as hell, or if your teenagers at
- 4:20Speaker 3: the house and they need to do something real quick,
- 4:22Speaker 3: and man, don't.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Be afraid to teach these people these tricks. All right?
- 4:25Speaker 3: Oh yeah, now we got the ground beef. Thiszling a
- 4:28Speaker 3: little bit. So look all we gonna do for this
- 4:30Speaker 3: ground beef. They get it rolling a little bit. We're
- 4:34Speaker 3: gonna add a little soy sauce. Okay, just a little bit.
- 4:38Speaker 3: We don't want to dow it dows it.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Down too much. A little pepper in that thing.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Now, if you want to, you can throw some start
- 4:50Speaker 3: on there, but I don't like too much.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Spaces. We get enough of that shit.
- 4:54Speaker 3: But because I'm trying to show out a little bit
- 4:57Speaker 3: and they can go, you see what's going on. It's
- 5:00Speaker 3: brand new. That means we don't need to you. There's
- 5:03Speaker 3: God talking to us. Pay attention to the finest people.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Well that was garlic salt, but the other.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Flight, that's more flight. The garlic salt. It ain't never
- 5:12Speaker 2: wrong with garlic salt.
- 5:13Speaker 1: So essentially you're gonna brown the beef and then in
- 5:17Speaker 1: the other part are you boiling the ramen.
- 5:19Speaker 3: So what we're gonna do once we strain this ground beef,
- 5:22Speaker 3: we're gonna put everything together. We're gonna put that ram
- 5:25Speaker 3: We're gonna let to broccoli, kind of marinate with the
- 5:29Speaker 3: beef a little bit, throw their parsley in there, okay,
- 5:33Speaker 3: and once they get to go on a little bit,
- 5:36Speaker 3: we're gonna throw the water and the noose in there
- 5:37Speaker 3: and kind of let a.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Simmer down and cool down again.
- 5:39Speaker 3: This might take a thirty thirty five minutes, so it's
- 5:44Speaker 3: not gonna take long.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Okay. Now take me back to what was going on
- 5:48Speaker 1: in your household where this became a staple dish with
- 5:50Speaker 1: a name.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Excuse me?
- 5:52Speaker 3: Can I cuss on this show?
- 5:53Speaker 2: All right? Cool? Oh? Man? Uh? What was going on
- 5:57Speaker 2: in this when this dish was being made?
- 6:01Speaker 3: This was pretty much after football practice, after baseball practice.
- 6:06Speaker 3: This was when me, my brothers and I playing ball
- 6:10Speaker 3: all year round, whether it's baseball, football, and even basketball
- 6:14Speaker 3: back then. I know that may surprise a lot of
- 6:15Speaker 3: people shout out to my playmakers to follow the show,
- 6:19Speaker 3: but Yeah, this will be the quick. My mom has
- 6:22Speaker 3: to hurry up and get something done. We got to
- 6:24Speaker 3: get in the shower and at least attempt to do
- 6:26Speaker 3: some homework. Just returning home after all those practices, you
- 6:31Speaker 3: got to get some on the stove and get something done.
- 6:33Speaker 3: She'll do this so real simple, don't worry about that
- 6:37Speaker 3: ground be following off.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Man, did you get nash You know? You know what
- 6:40Speaker 2: I mean? You got a queen stove? You ain't cooking.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Who came up with the name of it though, like
- 6:45Speaker 1: where it becomes a staple where you guys.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Are naming it, I don't know. I just made it up.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Did you have any sisters growing up?
- 6:52Speaker 2: No?
- 6:52Speaker 3: No, I do have one sister, but she didn't grow
- 6:54Speaker 3: up with us. Shout out to my grill, but and
- 6:57Speaker 3: her babies. My niece is a nephew.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Nah, man, no girls in the house.
- 7:01Speaker 3: The only girl in the house was was my mom,
- 7:04Speaker 3: and luckily she was a tomboy in the sports understood
- 7:07Speaker 3: what took what it took.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Again, if your kitchen and clean, your shit ain't good.
- 7:12Speaker 3: But uh, she understood what it took, and so she
- 7:16Speaker 3: made everything happen for us. Shout out to my mom
- 7:19Speaker 3: for holding us down and this meal were preparing to day.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Did you come from a two parent household?
- 7:25Speaker 2: My dad was around, but they were divorced.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Yeah, they got divorced kind of early, but luckily they
- 7:31Speaker 3: had the respect to relate respectable relationship enough to where
- 7:34Speaker 3: you know, my dad was my strength and conditioning coaching
- 7:37Speaker 3: my high school.
- 7:38Speaker 2: He was always in our lives to some degree. So
- 7:40Speaker 2: it just.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Wasn't a hidden ruin type of situation.
- 7:43Speaker 1: If you will, Okay, well that's always good.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Yeah, now you go ahead talk to.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Me, go ahead, and you're gonna so, yeah, we need.
- 7:51Speaker 3: The straining is now look cooking while broke. Everybody ain't
- 7:54Speaker 3: got a strain in the house, right We ain't got
- 7:57Speaker 3: a strain in the studio right now.
- 8:00Speaker 2: So we're gonna make something happen, all right.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Simply get your spacial little together. Should have had little
- 8:08Speaker 3: a little crease on the side, man, drain that thing
- 8:11Speaker 3: your life though. M that's some good juice and flavor
- 8:14Speaker 3: getting up out of there, but you know you don't
- 8:16Speaker 3: need all of it.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Let it send it down a little bit home.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Share share with me your you going from high school
- 8:23Speaker 1: sports to getting into or college and then getting into
- 8:28Speaker 1: the NFL.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Girl, that's a long score. That's a lot of work.
- 8:32Speaker 1: I'm skipping you through.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Okay, Well, go to practice, dominate high school, go to practice,
- 8:41Speaker 3: do well, and stand out in college, and then you
- 8:43Speaker 3: get signed.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Now, let me tell you something.
- 8:45Speaker 3: I know that's a very short version of what happened,
- 8:47Speaker 3: but it takes a lot of hours and a lot
- 8:49Speaker 3: of extra work in between. So no matter how hard
- 8:51Speaker 3: you think you're working, young man or young woman, you
- 8:53Speaker 3: got to work ten times harder, especially if you don't
- 8:57Speaker 3: have the political support, the measurables that are basically, you know,
- 9:03Speaker 3: looked for when it comes to college scouts or professional scouts.
- 9:06Speaker 3: It takes a lot of work to get there. So
- 9:08Speaker 3: that doesn't happen by accident. If you get to the
- 9:11Speaker 3: league or any league, a professional level, whatever career you
- 9:15Speaker 3: like to or you will embark on professional levels, that
- 9:19Speaker 3: shit does not happen by accident. So shout out to
- 9:22Speaker 3: all genres and careers, not just athletes.
- 9:25Speaker 1: But you knew since you were little that's what you
- 9:27Speaker 1: wanted to do.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Right for sure?
- 9:28Speaker 3: Correction, I wanted to be a baseball player.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Oh so baseball. Baseball was my first love.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Okay, so when I Initially when my parents asked me
- 9:40Speaker 3: what I wanted to be, I wanted to be a
- 9:42Speaker 3: baseball player. Baseball was everything. Shout out to Atlanta Braid's
- 9:46Speaker 3: my favorite team in the whole wild world. But essentially
- 9:49Speaker 3: that's what I wanted to do, be a baseball player.
- 9:52Speaker 3: But I mean, I was a dual sport athlete, so
- 9:54Speaker 3: football was kind of hand to hand, and all my
- 9:56Speaker 3: friends played football as well, so it wasn't fetch for
- 10:00Speaker 3: me to go ahead and just transfer some talents over
- 10:02Speaker 3: to the football field. So we kind of did the
- 10:05Speaker 3: dual sports anyway, you know what I mean. Sports is
- 10:08Speaker 3: like an outlet for us. Again, this meal came when
- 10:13Speaker 3: we were cooking wild broke. Yeah, shout out to everybody
- 10:16Speaker 3: from part Chateau, that apartment in conflicts over in Latonia, Georgia.
- 10:21Speaker 3: But if you were over there, you knew just how
- 10:23Speaker 3: it was, what the struggle was, and with the upclimb
- 10:26Speaker 3: or the uphill battle that we had getting up out
- 10:29Speaker 3: of there.
- 10:30Speaker 2: And sports was an avenue that me and my brothers used.
- 10:33Speaker 3: Now, if you want to dice up your bractly, go
- 10:35Speaker 3: ahead and do so, some big ass.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I was gonna say, the smaller, the pieces the fastest'll
- 10:40Speaker 1: cook right, something like that.
- 10:42Speaker 2: Now you put me up on guy. I told you
- 10:43Speaker 2: I don't be doing this for real, But go ahead.
- 10:46Speaker 1: When it comes to the undrafted free agent, can you
- 10:48Speaker 1: explain that part to me for the women or people
- 10:51Speaker 1: that don't understand what that means.
- 10:53Speaker 3: So an undrafted free agent, that's basically we just had
- 10:57Speaker 3: to draft pass not too long ago. So the undrafted
- 10:59Speaker 3: free agent is a guy who doesn't necessarily get to
- 11:02Speaker 3: walk across the stage, get his name called and everything
- 11:05Speaker 3: like that. But it's a recognition to say, hey, son,
- 11:09Speaker 3: we saw you in college, we saw you doing your thing.
- 11:12Speaker 3: We're gonna bring you in and basically give you a
- 11:14Speaker 3: try out, give you a trial run, and see if
- 11:16Speaker 3: you're good enough to make the cut, you know, and
- 11:19Speaker 3: you kind of go from there.
- 11:21Speaker 1: And then you get your deal with the Lions. How
- 11:24Speaker 1: was that whole experience, in that whole transition, It was amazing.
- 11:27Speaker 2: It was amazing. So my time with the Lions, man, it.
- 11:31Speaker 3: Was real, like, uh, it was. It was everything I
- 11:33Speaker 3: wanted to want it to be. Just to kind of
- 11:36Speaker 3: get my broccoli going out, I'm going to add just
- 11:38Speaker 3: a little bit of water, just a little bit just
- 11:40Speaker 3: a little bit, just a little bit, man, I eat
- 11:43Speaker 3: this for real?
- 11:45Speaker 1: Oh you have to eat it? I mean you don't
- 11:47Speaker 1: got to eat the whole Wait.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Cool, I was just trying to sell that ship.
- 11:51Speaker 1: I'm trying not to judge this broccoli book cooking.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Hey man, hey, we're finna make it work. We broke
- 11:57Speaker 2: and I'm in the kitchen.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Anyway, you were saying, what was your question again, Let's
- 12:07Speaker 3: get back to the interview.
- 12:09Speaker 1: So you were sharing your experience with the Detroit Lions.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Detroit my second home, my second home. Fortunate to be
- 12:17Speaker 3: around a fan base such as Detroit that actually loved
- 12:20Speaker 3: their fans. I was actually a part of that Owen
- 12:22Speaker 3: sixteen team, own sixteen team that didn't win a game
- 12:26Speaker 3: all year. But I can say that the fans were
- 12:30Speaker 3: still there. They sold out every home game despite not
- 12:33Speaker 3: winning the game. So that was a different experience.
- 12:37Speaker 2: Oh not for sure.
- 12:39Speaker 3: So Red Wings, Pistons, the Lions, who else and.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Even the Tigers.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Co America Park is one of my favorite baseball parks
- 12:47Speaker 3: of all time. Shout out to Detroit. They showed a
- 12:49Speaker 3: lot of love.
- 12:50Speaker 1: So transitioning away from NFL, what did that look like?
- 12:54Speaker 1: Was that tough? On you.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Hell yeah, hell yeah.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Every athlete to tell you, I don't give a damn
- 12:59Speaker 3: how successful their You can go from Shaq to the
- 13:02Speaker 3: guys you forgot about who are high school standouts.
- 13:05Speaker 2: That's transition.
- 13:06Speaker 3: It can be really tough because you go from doing
- 13:09Speaker 3: and putting all of your effort into one thing, and
- 13:12Speaker 3: for some people that's twenty thirty years and then you
- 13:15Speaker 3: have to move and transcend into something else. And you
- 13:18Speaker 3: want to be just as successful as you were in
- 13:20Speaker 3: whatever fields you were in to whatever you're going to
- 13:22Speaker 3: transfer to. A lot of people don't deal with that will.
- 13:26Speaker 3: I didn't deal with that will initially, you know what
- 13:28Speaker 3: I mean.
- 13:28Speaker 1: The finance is like going into that and then coming
- 13:31Speaker 1: out money.
- 13:34Speaker 2: To a degree.
- 13:36Speaker 3: To a degree, one of the smartest decisions I made
- 13:39Speaker 3: on my NFL check. They give you the option to
- 13:43Speaker 3: put something away for your four oh one K or
- 13:45Speaker 3: your second career savings. I checked that box. I didn't
- 13:50Speaker 3: know what I was doing at the time. I just
- 13:52Speaker 3: had an inclination of.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Down the road. Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 13:56Speaker 3: One of the smartest decisions I've ever made as a
- 13:58Speaker 3: grown man or as a man. Just to make sure
- 14:01Speaker 3: I checked that off. And just have something safe for later.
- 14:05Speaker 2: If okay, we stimmering a little bit, don't worry about that, y'all.
- 14:10Speaker 2: That shit gonna come back in.
- 14:13Speaker 1: It's gonna come back.
- 14:14Speaker 3: She's gonna come back in. And my stove leaning too.
- 14:17Speaker 3: So they're kind of killing me right now. But it's
- 14:18Speaker 3: all right.
- 14:19Speaker 2: We broke. We're gonna make an appum. I was right
- 14:21Speaker 2: back in there.
- 14:25Speaker 1: When you're coming out of the NFL, Yeah, what is
- 14:29Speaker 1: your first play as in your what's your second career path?
- 14:33Speaker 1: How long does it take you to transition to that?
- 14:35Speaker 2: You know, it's crazy.
- 14:36Speaker 3: I tried my best to get away from the sport
- 14:39Speaker 3: because you know, as an athlete you get kind of entitled.
- 14:44Speaker 3: So I felt like I was old a little bit
- 14:46Speaker 3: more than what I got, a longer career, more steining bonus,
- 14:50Speaker 3: more money, and if you don't know, my career was
- 14:53Speaker 3: kind of derailed by injuries. I never got hurt before
- 14:57Speaker 3: in my life until I got to the NFL.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Choid here, choad there, and then tore my ACL.
- 15:03Speaker 3: He was like, oh, man, like I'm supposed to do.
- 15:07Speaker 3: I did the right thing. I didn't get locked up
- 15:09Speaker 3: for this. I didn't get you know, blasted for that.
- 15:13Speaker 3: I was kind of like in the middle of the
- 15:15Speaker 3: road of just making sure I was handling my business
- 15:18Speaker 3: responsibly and I didn't do that bad on the field
- 15:21Speaker 3: to where I shouldn't be compensated to some degree or
- 15:24Speaker 3: at least a little bit more.
- 15:25Speaker 2: But shit happens.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Is this when you start transitioning towards fitness and.
- 15:32Speaker 3: Oh yeah again. So once I got to that point
- 15:36Speaker 3: to where I was like, I'm not trying to do
- 15:38Speaker 3: anything football related, I had to have that hard conversation
- 15:42Speaker 3: because I was working in a plant in Michigan. I
- 15:46Speaker 3: was actually working at Chrysler, working at christ and then
- 15:50Speaker 3: I actually God sent me a message through somebody named Reggie.
- 15:53Speaker 2: It was an older man named Reggie.
- 15:56Speaker 3: He was working inside the plant and he was the
- 15:57Speaker 3: only minority in this that's the vision of the plant.
- 16:01Speaker 3: And I was like, man, how did I not talk
- 16:03Speaker 3: to him already? Why don't I know his name already?
- 16:06Speaker 3: Went up to him, Hey, man, how you doing? My
- 16:08Speaker 3: name is Reggie, what's yours?
- 16:10Speaker 2: Man? My name is Reginald. I was like, all right, cool,
- 16:13Speaker 2: that's awesome. Rachie. Where you from.
- 16:15Speaker 3: I'm from Georgia and we in Detroit at this time.
- 16:18Speaker 3: I'm like, wait a minute, all right, cool, And not
- 16:21Speaker 3: to Disreggie anything like that. Reggie Tief is fucked up, man,
- 16:26Speaker 3: I'm talking about it's about four five teeth at the bottom,
- 16:29Speaker 3: maybe two or three at the top.
- 16:30Speaker 2: But he making good money.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Becuz he thirty years in in a Christler, you know
- 16:35Speaker 3: what I'm saying. So it's not like Reggie hurting or
- 16:37Speaker 3: anything like that. But I said, Reggie, how'd you end
- 16:40Speaker 3: up in Michigan?
- 16:42Speaker 2: My wife is from Detroit.
- 16:45Speaker 3: We started having babies and then she wanted to come
- 16:47Speaker 3: up here to get more support from my family. So
- 16:50Speaker 3: I sold the house in Georgia and I've been up
- 16:52Speaker 3: here ever since. I immediately got on the phone with my
- 16:57Speaker 3: partner down at the gym, I said, in two weeks,
- 16:59Speaker 3: I will be backing Atlanta because I did not want
- 17:03Speaker 3: to be that rich. I did not want to have
- 17:06Speaker 3: four five teeth in my mouth. And I'm not saying again,
- 17:10Speaker 3: a plant job is the age and yeah, I get
- 17:13Speaker 3: that that one for me.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Yeah, you know what I mean.
- 17:16Speaker 2: It's company.
- 17:17Speaker 3: You like, it was bad, so.
- 17:20Speaker 1: You come back and then you come back and what's
- 17:25Speaker 1: the first thing you start to do?
- 17:26Speaker 2: Well, I'm not up and leave right. Not really, it
- 17:30Speaker 2: was already the gym had already started.
- 17:32Speaker 3: I was still dabbling with fitness and everything with my friends.
- 17:36Speaker 3: The only reason why I went to Michigan is because
- 17:38Speaker 3: my son was born in Beaumont. So it was like you, yep,
- 17:44Speaker 3: so I had kids from my wife who was from Michigan,
- 17:47Speaker 3: from Detroit. It was literally a mirror image of all right,
- 17:53Speaker 3: here were you going to be in thirty years if
- 17:55Speaker 3: you don't change it.
- 17:56Speaker 2: And again, I'm not knocking Reggie.
- 17:58Speaker 3: I'm not saying Reggie's not having a successful life, but
- 18:01Speaker 3: it wasn't for this, Regie.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Yeah, you think that was like a God. You thought
- 18:06Speaker 1: that was like a higher.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Oh no, that was Godkay, no question, that was God.
- 18:10Speaker 1: So you packed up your whole family.
- 18:13Speaker 3: No, So we're gonna crack this up, Get these noodles,
- 18:16Speaker 3: going might put a little warm water on this thing,
- 18:19Speaker 3: the kind of similar it down. Yeah, cooking while I
- 18:22Speaker 3: broke here with my girl.
- 18:25Speaker 2: M hm, this Sh'S gonna be so good. Watch.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Yeah, this is my first time ever seeing wrong and
- 18:30Speaker 1: cook like this.
- 18:30Speaker 3: All right, cool, don't worry about it. It's gonna be
- 18:33Speaker 3: the first time and you ain't gonna forget it. Yeah, yeah,
- 18:38Speaker 3: Now again.
- 18:39Speaker 1: I think you still have a cooking show.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Look, this is where you're supposed to have your oriental
- 18:44Speaker 3: or your beef seasoning. Because we got ground beef in here, right,
- 18:49Speaker 3: somebody messed up. They ate all the oriental, they put
- 18:52Speaker 3: two or three orientals, and they orders and noodles being.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Selfish, and we were just left with the chicken.
- 18:56Speaker 3: You know how it go when you broke, you know,
- 18:58Speaker 3: you add that extra season and the sposed to anyway,
- 19:01Speaker 3: you know, we're gonna deal with the punches and we're
- 19:03Speaker 3: gonna roll with it to add a little bit of
- 19:05Speaker 3: chicken on them.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Now, are you gonna empty out that whole packet? That's
- 19:10Speaker 1: a lot of salt. You're right, you right, it's doing
- 19:15Speaker 1: one packet, right, good?
- 19:17Speaker 2: Just one.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Now we're finna talk and do this interview and let
- 19:20Speaker 3: this thing simmer down and hopefully it do what it's
- 19:23Speaker 3: supposed to do.
- 19:24Speaker 2: I think about it.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Hold on, just okay, you know what it is is
- 19:28Speaker 1: the cooking meals. I told you I'm trying to help
- 19:32Speaker 1: you out just in case. No no no, no, no no
- 19:34Speaker 1: no no no no. I'm gonna trust you, all.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Right, cool, don't trust me, not with this ship.
- 19:38Speaker 1: But I think you probably need a little bit more water,
- 19:41Speaker 1: just a little bit, right, cool if you want the
- 19:44Speaker 1: noodles to cook.
- 19:46Speaker 3: All right, yeah, I think, oh yeah, okay, cool.
- 19:50Speaker 1: It looks familiar.
- 19:51Speaker 2: No where were we?
- 19:57Speaker 1: So you're so, what do you pack up your family
- 19:59Speaker 1: and leave our You.
- 20:00Speaker 3: Just man not to disclose too much, but I had
- 20:03Speaker 3: to get the hell on.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Oh no, we did.
- 20:05Speaker 3: We did. We packed up. Maybe two weeks after that.
- 20:08Speaker 3: I packed a car and we literally moved down My
- 20:12Speaker 3: family and I went to a small apartment right off
- 20:14Speaker 3: of Prior Rope.
- 20:16Speaker 2: But I ain't gonna lie to you. I was working
- 20:18Speaker 2: my ass off.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Well, my wife did not want me not to do
- 20:21Speaker 3: anything without health insurance. So I was actually fixing U
- 20:24Speaker 3: haul trucks off a Keller road shot one seventy four,
- 20:27Speaker 3: So the U haul trucks that you used to move.
- 20:29Speaker 3: I was changing the brakes, doing tune ups, changing or
- 20:32Speaker 3: changing the differential fluid and everything like that. A lot
- 20:35Speaker 3: of that stuff I learned on the job, but a
- 20:36Speaker 3: lot of stuff I already knew.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, So to get this all and you're handling
- 20:41Speaker 1: the transition from being athlete through all these jobs pretty well.
- 20:46Speaker 1: No part of your ego is like battling a great please.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Hell yeah, hell yeah again. Mentally it's tough, you know
- 20:54Speaker 2: what I mean.
- 20:54Speaker 3: And you take a guy like me like I was
- 20:57Speaker 3: a starting quarterback for ten years here in the city,
- 21:01Speaker 3: from middle school to high school to college, and everybody
- 21:05Speaker 3: could recognize my face at the time.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Everybody knew my name at the time.
- 21:09Speaker 3: Not only that, my brothers established a reputation for themselves
- 21:12Speaker 3: as well.
- 21:13Speaker 2: So it was humbling, to say the least.
- 21:16Speaker 1: How did you get through those times?
- 21:18Speaker 2: Shit, I don't know, I don't know. Did you people
- 21:22Speaker 2: around me? Sound people around me?
- 21:25Speaker 3: My wife did a decent job, you know what I mean,
- 21:27Speaker 3: and making sure that I was, you know, at least pushing.
- 21:31Speaker 3: My kids were my biggest motivation, okay, you know what
- 21:33Speaker 3: I mean, My dad, my parents around and everything like that.
- 21:36Speaker 3: So sound people around just gonna help everything. Yeah, that's
- 21:39Speaker 3: gonna come together real good. This shit ain't cooking for nothing,
- 21:44Speaker 3: but it's coming together.
- 21:45Speaker 1: So you're working these jobs, at what point do you
- 21:47Speaker 1: take it to. I'm just gonna go all in in,
- 21:50Speaker 1: one hundred percent, focus on what I'm passionate.
- 21:53Speaker 2: We're doing good? Are we doing good? So it was
- 21:55Speaker 2: a point in my life to where I was in Michigan.
- 21:59Speaker 3: Remember I had that conversation with Reggie, right, so I
- 22:02Speaker 3: had soon after that conversation and the interaction I had
- 22:05Speaker 3: with Reggie, I had a hard conversation with myself in
- 22:09Speaker 3: the mirror. And I literally this might be one of
- 22:12Speaker 3: three times where I actually looked in the mirror and
- 22:14Speaker 3: looked in my eyes like, man, what the fuck are
- 22:16Speaker 3: you gonna do? And I did. I was like some stuff.
- 22:21Speaker 3: I was reading audiobooks and everything like that. And I'll
- 22:23Speaker 3: never forget this one line in the Compound Effect. Pick
- 22:27Speaker 3: it up if you haven't already, It said open your hands,
- 22:32Speaker 3: Open your hands, look at your hands. Everything in your
- 22:35Speaker 3: hands right now are the tools that you need to
- 22:39Speaker 3: live in abundance.
- 22:42Speaker 1: And that was in the Compound Effects.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Where to God?
- 22:45Speaker 3: And what's your name? Who you're from? Your parents matter,
- 22:49Speaker 3: what do they do? What are they good at? And
- 22:52Speaker 3: I said, I've been telling my dad years ago. He's
- 22:55Speaker 3: been doing this for about forty years now as far
- 22:57Speaker 3: as strength and conditioning, NFL, Olympic track athletes, NBA, and
- 23:03Speaker 3: my dad should.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Have been a millionaire a long time ago.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Ironically enough, that's another Reggie I have the same name
- 23:10Speaker 3: as my dad, so I'm like, man, get your ass
- 23:14Speaker 3: in the gym. And ever since that day it's been
- 23:17Speaker 3: full fledged trainer, entrepreneur, and health influencer.
- 23:21Speaker 1: And even going into that though, you go full fledged,
- 23:27Speaker 1: you don't just jump off the cliff. You transition out.
- 23:29Speaker 1: At what point, right, did you just jump off the cliff?
- 23:32Speaker 2: I jumped off the cliff.
- 23:33Speaker 1: What about like security and the health insurance that your
- 23:36Speaker 1: wife wanted.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Well, if you want to talk about that, Well, no,
- 23:39Speaker 3: I didn't because I was going to the gym at
- 23:41Speaker 3: four in the morning, and then I would go clock
- 23:43Speaker 3: in and you haul at seven, and then I'll clock
- 23:45Speaker 3: off at U haul around three thirty four, and I'll
- 23:48Speaker 3: go right back to the gym, get home around nine.
- 23:51Speaker 1: And you're going to the gym to train yourself or
- 23:53Speaker 1: to start training.
- 23:53Speaker 3: Oh, we're training. Other people were running classes. That's I
- 23:57Speaker 3: was at Effect Fitness. Me and my partner were still
- 23:59Speaker 3: oh getting that together. I know I ain't doing this right,
- 24:02Speaker 3: but this shit coming out coming?
- 24:04Speaker 1: How do you figure you're not doing it?
- 24:07Speaker 2: I guess so I'm listening. We'll go ahead. I'm sorry.
- 24:10Speaker 1: So, did you use any of the money from sports
- 24:15Speaker 1: to fund your pursuit of effect very little, if.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Any, now that I think about it, I mean small
- 24:24Speaker 3: pieces of equipment, you know what I mean. I have
- 24:28Speaker 3: a wonderful partner, Kra Glucis better known as Duley.
- 24:32Speaker 2: He's the founder.
- 24:33Speaker 3: I came in maybe a few months after he founded
- 24:36Speaker 3: it because we were kind of on steparate paths doing this. Bob,
- 24:40Speaker 3: come by, see what I got. And ever since that
- 24:42Speaker 3: day we've been gone. But no NFL money needed for that.
- 24:46Speaker 3: It was just hard work. We turned to four hundred
- 24:49Speaker 3: and fifty square foot garage into a gym, glued the
- 24:52Speaker 3: mirrors on the wall, painted the wall, took the pool,
- 24:56Speaker 3: a pool table out, took the couch out, cut up
- 24:59Speaker 3: literally with knives, just like this. That was planning WHILEE broke.
- 25:06Speaker 3: They put in the rubber floors inside the gym or
- 25:09Speaker 3: inside the garage, and we went crazy. Played the music
- 25:12Speaker 3: from the iPod doc at the time and took off.
- 25:16Speaker 1: And then your marketing and branding it And is anyone
- 25:19Speaker 1: in your camp or second guessing you?
- 25:24Speaker 2: Hell yeah?
- 25:25Speaker 1: And what did you do to tune out that noise?
- 25:28Speaker 3: Believe man, my brothers laughed at me. My friend, well
- 25:35Speaker 3: brother laughed at me.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Fast forward to.
- 25:38Speaker 3: This motherfucker doing the exact same thing almost at his
- 25:41Speaker 3: own gym. You know what I'm saying, I swear, but
- 25:44Speaker 3: shout out to those guys were doing what they do.
- 25:46Speaker 2: My friends laughed at me.
- 25:47Speaker 3: My friends told us we were have Martin episode when
- 25:50Speaker 3: they were doing the aerobics. You know what I'm saying,
- 25:53Speaker 3: And that's Jay still run that joke to this day
- 25:56Speaker 3: about how we get down with the effect fitness. But
- 25:58Speaker 3: now I never forget how about how many people actually
- 26:02Speaker 3: laughed at us.
- 26:03Speaker 2: I never forget that.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Yeah, how long in did it take for you to
- 26:07Speaker 1: go full time?
- 26:10Speaker 3: It was a Thanksgiving and it might have been a
- 26:13Speaker 3: year at you Hall, maybe a year and a half,
- 26:14Speaker 3: but it was a Thanksgiving. And of course you know
- 26:17Speaker 3: when you broke, you're doing.
- 26:19Speaker 2: The numbers eight hours, nine hours.
- 26:22Speaker 3: Man, if I do overtime, I'm gonna get this if
- 26:24Speaker 3: I do this right here, And I was like, if
- 26:27Speaker 3: I do overtime every day, damn day, I still don't
- 26:29Speaker 3: want I'm not gonna get what I want to get.
- 26:32Speaker 3: So I'm like, all right, better on yourself. And it
- 26:35Speaker 3: was one of those I guess moments to where you
- 26:38Speaker 3: had to have that realization or that real conversation with
- 26:41Speaker 3: yourself like hey man, you're finish, go all in, or
- 26:44Speaker 3: you're gonna straddle the line and keep getting mediocre results.
- 26:48Speaker 3: You can't straddle the line and be successful. It's really
- 26:51Speaker 3: that simpful. You gotta put ten toes down and grind.
- 26:55Speaker 3: It was around Thanksgiving and I think we had like
- 26:59Speaker 3: a dinner something at the at the shop. I looked around.
- 27:04Speaker 3: I said, man, I ain't coming back. I looked around,
- 27:08Speaker 3: and you know, you get the get like the three
- 27:12Speaker 3: four days off of that Thanksgiving break something like that.
- 27:16Speaker 2: I swear to God to you, I'm not lying. I
- 27:17Speaker 2: looked around.
- 27:18Speaker 3: I looked at those people and no offense than nobody
- 27:21Speaker 3: that was at that shop.
- 27:22Speaker 2: But it wasn't my crowd. I said. After that, I said,
- 27:26Speaker 2: this thing, this is my break.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I feel like when you were with these these people
- 27:30Speaker 1: you're working with, I'm disgusted.
- 27:35Speaker 2: I tried to be nice, but you're poking.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Yeah, that's hilarious. And now I'm just curious those people
- 27:40Speaker 1: when you're in those settings and they're pro worked thirty
- 27:44Speaker 1: million years counter hours and you're the entrepreneurs. Spirit are
- 27:48Speaker 1: they looking at you? Probably disgusted? You think too.
- 27:51Speaker 2: You know, It's crazy.
- 27:54Speaker 3: First couple of weeks there, nobody believed I was be
- 27:57Speaker 3: Reggie Ball quote unquote that was throwing the Alvin Johnson
- 28:01Speaker 3: that just got out the league and everything like that.
- 28:03Speaker 3: So they were kind of I don't want to say,
- 28:05Speaker 3: in awe what they were in awe. Okay, But the
- 28:09Speaker 3: crazy thing about the majority of the people in our culture,
- 28:14Speaker 3: the more you familiar, are familiar you are with the person,
- 28:19Speaker 3: the more disrespectful.
- 28:20Speaker 1: I believe that, I believe that you know what I'm saying.
- 28:23Speaker 3: So that feeling of oh, this is Reggie, it quickly
- 28:27Speaker 3: wore off, you know what I mean, just because hey man,
- 28:31Speaker 3: I'm cool, I'm gonna do this work just like you.
- 28:34Speaker 3: I'm a level with you. I'm not finna talk to
- 28:36Speaker 3: you from a place of here. I'm a level with you.
- 28:40Speaker 3: And sometimes that humility can bite.
- 28:42Speaker 2: You in the ass. And that was just one of
- 28:45Speaker 2: those environments.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Yeah, if you had to give someone advice based on
- 28:50Speaker 1: everything that you've learned, what were do you think where
- 28:53Speaker 1: the three things that took you to where you are today?
- 28:58Speaker 2: Three things that took me where I am to Let's
- 29:01Speaker 2: see hard work for shure. I know that's there to
- 29:05Speaker 2: be different type shit. Everybody knows that.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Got to put your head down, you gotta believe, and
- 29:10Speaker 3: you got to put yourself first. So hard work puts
- 29:13Speaker 3: yourself first for sure. I don't care what you do.
- 29:16Speaker 3: I know we all have spouses, we all have kids
- 29:19Speaker 3: and everything like that, but there's no way you can
- 29:21Speaker 3: provide take care of anybody else if you're not good.
- 29:25Speaker 2: So if you don't put you as number one, you're
- 29:27Speaker 2: fucking up.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Third thing, consistent when you don't want to do it,
- 29:31Speaker 3: those are probably the most vital days to.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Be doing it.
- 29:35Speaker 3: When you don't want to do it, Those are probably
- 29:37Speaker 3: the most rewarding days when you actually go in and
- 29:39Speaker 3: get something done. And it's just consistency builds so much
- 29:43Speaker 3: trust and people on the outside looking in. So yeah,
- 29:47Speaker 3: those those three things, hard work, putting yourself first in
- 29:51Speaker 3: consistency for sure.
- 29:53Speaker 1: When it comes to putting yourself first, kit, what does
- 29:56Speaker 1: that look like in true reality? And that's also a
- 30:00Speaker 1: difficult thing to do. What advice would you give to
- 30:03Speaker 1: someone that's struggling in that area.
- 30:06Speaker 3: I always allude to trying to lend a helping hand
- 30:11Speaker 3: when you have no fingers. You feel what I'm saying like,
- 30:14Speaker 3: how can I help somebody? And if I'm not good
- 30:17Speaker 3: and I got to close fist, you know what I'm saying, Yeah,
- 30:20Speaker 3: I can reach out. There's a chance that you can,
- 30:23Speaker 3: you know what I mean, latch on to some degree.
- 30:25Speaker 3: But I'm so much more useful if I can use
- 30:28Speaker 3: all my extremities to the full extent of.
- 30:30Speaker 2: What I can do or how I'm supposed to. You
- 30:33Speaker 2: feel what I'm saying.
- 30:35Speaker 3: So putting yourself first just makes you more powerful. It
- 30:39Speaker 3: makes you more of a resource to anybody else around you.
- 30:42Speaker 3: And I know it can be uncomfortable, and I know
- 30:44Speaker 3: it's frowned upon, because hell, you got survivor's remorse to
- 30:48Speaker 3: some degree when you put yourself first.
- 30:50Speaker 2: But fuck that.
- 30:51Speaker 1: Man responsibility and come on, man, you understand like even
- 30:56Speaker 1: as a father, you can say I think women struggle
- 31:00Speaker 1: a lot in this area, but those for instance, like
- 31:03Speaker 1: a kid is less they can't help themselves. Right, So
- 31:07Speaker 1: you're battling between putting the kid first and putting yourself first.
- 31:10Speaker 1: And it makes sense what you're doing. But I'm saying,
- 31:12Speaker 1: an actuality, how do you apply it? Let's serve up
- 31:15Speaker 1: this food. It looks still really yes.
- 31:17Speaker 2: You won'ta taste it for real. Yeah, that's true.
- 31:21Speaker 1: So you're eating it too, I'm gonna make sure you
- 31:23Speaker 1: take the first bite.
- 31:26Speaker 2: I ain't afraid of that.
- 31:28Speaker 3: Oh you know what, I will eat it up.
- 31:30Speaker 2: We don't have no diddy, no diddy, but anyway.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Go ahead, serve it up. Just so you know. I
- 31:37Speaker 1: don't really eat red meat, so I'm gonna no, I
- 31:40Speaker 1: ain't gonna force you to do that, baby.
- 31:41Speaker 3: By sure, it's okay, all right, we're looking at right.

- 33:04Speaker 1: I love the way you did it. And you didn't

- 33:07Speaker 2: Girl.
- 33:07Speaker 3: Hey, I'm just I don't just look like this. Come on, man,
- 33:11Speaker 3: this is good.

- 33:17Speaker 1: give this dish a certified nine. What it's good, isn't it?
- 33:23Speaker 1: It is good.
- 33:24Speaker 3: I wouldn't be something, but I got a cookn't show
- 33:26Speaker 3: on the way.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Let me tell you something is good. This is really good.
- 33:31Speaker 1: You didn't everyone?

- 33:40Speaker 3: It is, hey, I swear.
- 33:42Speaker 1: To God here I'm taking a third bite, and trust
- 33:45Speaker 1: me I'm not. I'm trying not to eat as much
- 33:46Speaker 1: of the meat.
- 33:47Speaker 3: No, it ain't like I did. It's ground beef.
- 33:50Speaker 1: It's good.
- 33:51Speaker 3: It's noodles and a little bit of broccoli and parsony.
- 33:55Speaker 1: I've had people mess up ramen on this show.
- 34:01Speaker 3: Hold on, take this plate, get that rid you go
- 34:04Speaker 3: for them.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Okay, what are you laving? You don't think it's gonna
- 34:09Speaker 1: be good?
- 34:10Speaker 2: Dom, Just taste it.

- 34:21Speaker 1: Noodles are cooked well man. Yeah, I am thoroughly impressed.
- 34:28Speaker 1: It is definitely a great job. I ain't gonna lie.
- 34:31Speaker 1: I'm probably going to do this at home. Lin, Yes,
- 34:35Speaker 1: but with the appropriate chicken versus chicken ratio or shrimp whatever.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Ten out of ten. The way you cooked it was
- 34:42Speaker 1: impressive too. I've never seen someone cook Rahmin like that.
- 34:45Speaker 1: So Grague, you should get your book.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Bagg I'm gonna tell you something you go.
- 34:49Speaker 1: Okay, wait for real, you did great.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Thank you for pushing me outside my limits and give
- 34:57Speaker 2: me in the kitchen.
- 34:58Speaker 1: So where can every well where did the podcasting come
- 35:01Speaker 1: into play?
- 35:02Speaker 2: Oh man, shout out.
- 35:03Speaker 3: To my boy nav Green, the whole staff over here,
- 35:06Speaker 3: over there, over here at eighty five ways. Nav actually
- 35:10Speaker 3: had me on as a guest. Nav is local. He
- 35:14Speaker 3: heard my name through the streets because he grew up
- 35:18Speaker 3: in the area, had me on the show, had a
- 35:21Speaker 3: great show.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Richie was good. I want to come back, but yeah.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Hell yeah, because I'm a huge I was a huge
- 35:28Speaker 3: fan of huge follow of Chico Carlos in DC, especially
- 35:32Speaker 3: during the pandemic, even a little bit before then. Kind
- 35:36Speaker 3: of because their studio at one point was on the
- 35:38Speaker 3: other side of the street from our gym Oh okay,
- 35:42Speaker 3: so came back the second time.
- 35:43Speaker 2: They was like, man, you were coast. I was like,
- 35:47Speaker 2: hell yeah.
- 35:48Speaker 3: So it was like basically playing with house money. I
- 35:52Speaker 3: had no I did have intentions during the pandemic. We
- 35:56Speaker 3: had my partners and I had a meeting of the
- 35:59Speaker 3: mind in Vegas and I put down on one of
- 36:02Speaker 3: those paths, start podcasting.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Oh okay, start recording. You know what? I mean, this
- 36:08Speaker 2: is in twenty twenty. So fast forward to.
- 36:10Speaker 3: Nav having me on I loved I love now man
- 36:13Speaker 3: and what he got going on. I think he's our
- 36:15Speaker 3: generational said the entertainer. And I'm not just saying that
- 36:18Speaker 3: because he's my homeboy. I really do see him blossoming
- 36:22Speaker 3: into a huge star. But yeah, that was it was
- 36:25Speaker 3: just house money. So we're doing that.
- 36:28Speaker 1: What does that mean when you say house money you
- 36:31Speaker 1: can't lose.
- 36:31Speaker 2: I'm basically like, I know it's some gambling shit.
- 36:34Speaker 3: I just shouldn't encourage that, you know what I'm saying.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Oh it's cool, cool.
- 36:37Speaker 3: But yeah, I'm basically like, I had no plans to
- 36:40Speaker 3: do this, So everything else from this is a bonus.
- 36:42Speaker 2: You feel what I'm saying.
- 36:43Speaker 1: And then just backtracking, you said you and your friends
- 36:46Speaker 1: do the meeting of the Mind's thing.
- 36:48Speaker 3: Yeah, every year we do a brainstorm meeting. We go
- 36:51Speaker 3: somewhere someone like Denver, out and about to where we're
- 36:54Speaker 3: not necessarily familiar. When we went to Vegas a year,
- 36:57Speaker 3: that was my first time in Vegas and I'm glad
- 36:59Speaker 3: we went during the pandemic because everything was shut down
- 37:02Speaker 3: and they said, Reggie, this is never like this. You
- 37:05Speaker 3: can walk the streets and not bump into anybody. The
- 37:07Speaker 3: only bad thing is that you had to have the
- 37:09Speaker 3: mask on inside the casinos.
- 37:12Speaker 1: But excuse than saying that. Annually you guys do a
- 37:15Speaker 1: meeting of the minds. It's just a group of guys
- 37:17Speaker 1: that get together and they say, write down their goals
- 37:21Speaker 1: for the year. What does that look like?
- 37:22Speaker 3: This is this is my gym partners, this is me
- 37:25Speaker 3: Yon Dooley Zaan going off and basically planning out the year.
- 37:30Speaker 3: So yeah, we write those goals out, We write out
- 37:32Speaker 3: those ones, and we plan out I told you about
- 37:36Speaker 3: the tours that we do, you know what I mean.
- 37:38Speaker 3: We plan out what tour, what city we need to
- 37:40Speaker 3: go to, and we kind of just brainstorm. Of course
- 37:42Speaker 3: everything doesn't necessarily go to plan, but you know, having
- 37:45Speaker 3: a plan helps everything so much figure out fi so
- 37:48Speaker 3: much easier.
- 37:49Speaker 1: Why did you think that throwing podcasting in the hat?
- 37:52Speaker 1: How did you think that was going to affect the gym?
- 37:55Speaker 2: What's the way?
- 37:56Speaker 3: It's the way of the world, and what the pandemic did?
- 38:00Speaker 3: It made us transition over into the social platform. When
- 38:03Speaker 3: twenty twenty hit they shut all the gems down. We
- 38:05Speaker 3: stayed moving because we had an instructor teach the class
- 38:10Speaker 3: while maybe anywhere from six to eight trainers performed the classes,
- 38:14Speaker 3: and we broadcasted that on Facebook and ig for free
- 38:18Speaker 3: for six months.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Okay, so we.
- 38:19Speaker 3: Had Missy Elliott tap in, we had Tyler Perry tap in.
- 38:23Speaker 3: We had a lot of people actually catch and catch
- 38:26Speaker 3: on to the way of what we were doing and
- 38:29Speaker 3: how we were keeping people moving and motivated and even
- 38:32Speaker 3: entertained to some degree during the pandemic for free for free.
- 38:37Speaker 1: And then at some point you guys decided to charge.
- 38:40Speaker 3: They pushed us to create the app. We were slow
- 38:44Speaker 3: footing with that. It made us take advantage of the
- 38:48Speaker 3: opportunity of just transitioning onto again the more social platforms.
- 38:53Speaker 3: So that's when the notion of podcasting came into play,
- 38:56Speaker 3: because that's just natural.
- 38:57Speaker 2: Once you get your own platforms and everything like this.
- 39:00Speaker 3: You want to spread your word, have your sit downs
- 39:03Speaker 3: and your interviews for certain people and show, you know,
- 39:06Speaker 3: just another facet of the game and yourself.
- 39:09Speaker 1: I like that. So can you tell all the listeners
- 39:12Speaker 1: and everyone who may or may not are aware of
- 39:15Speaker 1: you about the tours?
- 39:18Speaker 3: Yeah, so affect fitness. We travel pretty much three or
- 39:22Speaker 3: four times a year. This year we have Houston, Dominican Republic,
- 39:27Speaker 3: New Orleans, and I think Miami is on the list.
- 39:31Speaker 3: But we've done La, We've done New York, We've done Chicago.
- 39:34Speaker 3: But our boot camp class is known all around the world.
- 39:38Speaker 2: Now. We have so many guys that are.
- 39:40Speaker 3: Imitating this thing right now, which is cool because it
- 39:42Speaker 3: helps us with the marketing. So when you see the
- 39:44Speaker 3: original in town, it draws a big crowd. But yeah,
- 39:47Speaker 3: we don't just do it inside the gym. We don't
- 39:49Speaker 3: just do it on the app. If you don't have
- 39:51Speaker 3: the effect fitness app get it now. We take it
- 39:53Speaker 3: to the cities that want us here.
- 39:55Speaker 1: And so what happens on the tours is how long
- 39:58Speaker 1: is it?
- 39:59Speaker 2: What a weekend? Ok Now?
- 40:01Speaker 3: Typically yes, So the typical tour a weekend. We get
- 40:06Speaker 3: there Friday, have an intro kind of reception. Saturday, we
- 40:11Speaker 3: have a market setup to where all type of individual
- 40:15Speaker 3: individual entrepreneurs get to set up a table because we
- 40:17Speaker 3: do a market Saturday. Every every Saturday, we do the
- 40:20Speaker 3: exact same thing on the road. So if you're an
- 40:22Speaker 3: entrepreneur you want to introduce your product, anything like that,
- 40:25Speaker 3: as long as you register in time, we let you
- 40:27Speaker 3: set up shopping whatever hotel that we're in.
- 40:30Speaker 2: We do the class on Saturday.
- 40:32Speaker 3: We always do some type of gathering a party on
- 40:34Speaker 3: Saturday night, and then you know, everybody kind of disperses
- 40:37Speaker 3: on Sunday.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's a good deal.
- 40:41Speaker 1: Where can everyone's happen to keep up with the tours?
- 40:44Speaker 3: Effect fitness and that's effectfitness dot com on ig that's
- 40:48Speaker 3: Effect Fitness.
- 40:49Speaker 2: We have a Facebook. Just google Effect Fitness. It's not
- 40:52Speaker 2: f F e c T, that's it e F F
- 40:54Speaker 2: e c T fitness Fitness.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Thank you so much for cooking for me and taking
- 40:59Speaker 1: time out of your hectic schedule to share your story
- 41:01Speaker 1: sports up.
- 41:02Speaker 2: Thank you for getting me back in the kitchen.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Yes, sick. Great. Peace out y'all.
- 41:06Speaker 2: Man, that ship was good.
